ok, off to bed, 50 for tomorrow
goodnight all
oh, she's still around, she's ended up homeless in the last couple of months, after divorcing her 2nd or 3rd Egyptian husband, so she's descended on poor mom.
she's decided she's Muslim, now, though she know next to nothing about it.
nite, flosey, sleep well.
oh dear, rbud, good for you Mom that you are nearby
that sounds difficult, rbud
night flosey
**your mom
very difficult. mostly we all think she's gone off the deep end, lol!
she was planning to spend the night here, but when she found only the couch left, she refused to "sleep on display" and off she went.
I wouldn't mind her religious silliness, but she insists on heaping scorn on anyone who doesn't want to hear about it ad nauseum...
night flosey! hi rbud! :o)
Hello everyone. That's some 'cross' to bear Rosebud
hiya, dfm! how are you? haven't "seen" you since you hit your he4 the other night.
hi lyn! :o)
common with converts, I hear
hi lyn
hi Jilli and dfm
been mostly distracted by other stuff, I guess
(I've seen you since but just haven't popped in to say hi ;oP)
at least you're okay, then, dfm?
yeah, I seem to be... I also seem to be hurting my he4 slightly more often after though :o\
oh no, dfm
oh, yes, one always tends to hit the same sore places repeatedly, at least in my experience.
oh, where is ruru? He left his sp6 here!
evening all :)
hope you all had a lovely christmas! xox
HI MRP!!!
haha, jilli, can't believe that sp6 works!
and hi, mrp!
hi MRP, hope you are all well and enjoying the holidays. Lovely to see you
I thought it was a trade name, rbud
that sp6 must be one of my last words, don't seem to have it.
hi mrp! :o)
good to see you all!!
dfm, think swimsuit
or abbrev for the thing that tells you how fast you are going in the car
haven't seen you in ages, mrp -- what have you been up to?
ah got it thanks :o)
yw dfm
busy with pre-teens! who knew high school would be so busy!!!?
one left now... a s5...
my shoulder fell apart too... so need some surgery to fix it. Has been like that since June. But not in any hurry to get to the surgeon/knife
Oh no, mrp! Not more surgery! Is it the same arm?
sure is! stupid arm! :)
Geez louise, mrp! How did it happen?
how you been jilli?
:o( what happened?
Oh, I'm fine, mrp.
But my fridge and my desktop are ailing.
torn rotator cuff... it is apparently 'typical' after surgery to the arm/shoulder area...
Well, that kind of surgery is pretty successful, isn't it.
yay fireworks! (yay my fingers sort of autocompleted that last word after three letters <.<)
indeed! as long as you follow the physio after it! otherwise the surgery is useless
what surgery were you in, before?
Congrats dfm!
congrats, dfm!
well, you're smart enough to do the physio
on ya dfm :)
Whoopee dfm!
big answer there dfm! it was a resection of the humerus (5 times!) and eventual prosthetic.
:o( sounds painful
dfm, mrp went through a long time of misery
oh yeah!
but my babble buddies where the best of that time! xox
but she is a very brave woman
maybe you don't know that mrp is the beautiful wife of Lickety,, dfm
beautiful indeed.... beautifully patient! I so want chinese food tonight and lickety is trying to find a chinese restaurant that delivers! Non deliver!! that is so un-Australian!
ok, dfm, whip up a great Chinese dinner for mrp!
...and deliver it, lol! ;p
chinese take away/delivery...hey MRP we have a few out Campbelltown way...damn, bit far from you guys...xxx
We have a terrible Chinese restaurant here
too far for us diz!
Well, 44 left for tomorrow -- this grid has been a bit nicer than the last few imho.
LOL MRP, thought so.
Delivering may... take a while, I think... ;o)
we have good chinese rests here... but no delivery :(
dfm, would take about 2 hrs from mine to hers,,,LOL
dfm could teleport, maybe?
the last time I went through Campbelltown, I took a wrong turn going to Griffith! How sad is that!

Good morning everybody.
Perfect-sized puzzle for a busy day
I think I just missed everybody.... :(
hello friends. insomnia...feh
thank goodness for babble on these nights!
hello trif: 2 tricks for insomnia -- think up 7-letter words (old scrabble player talking) or take a Xanax if obsessing is the reason! hahah
hello ruby. don't have any xanax, but love the scrabble suggestion!
it is so boring, that it usually works
how is your husband doing, ruby?
he is very depressed, does too much in the mornings and then has pain in the afternoons and, talk about obsessing!!!!
oh dear! did any thing ever come of the court case? I mean, not to pry, of course....I am just a little out of the loop
yes, the dog-owner was found guilty and was fined 450 euros, the dog was not put down, husband was awarded half what the lawyer asked for but we haven't seen a penny in the 2 months. Now he has to see a court-appointed doctor to evaluate whether we can sue for damages. BUT THE DOG IS STILL IN THE VILLAGE!!
oh man....
Everybody is afraid to walk near his house
the ultimate oxymore, French criminal justice

hi Ruby
how was your holiday? All was lovely and quiet here, just enough snow to be pretty, but no more big storms
71 easy words this AM, once I started getting in words, thanks to Ray 100
It's been lovely here - very pleasant 20+ degrees with cool nights. Tomorrow is our first hot day (40) but a promised cool change before the NYE celebrations begin
but still alot of blanks.....
so you can NYE outdoors!! Are there fireworks?
In Melbourne on the river Yarra. Nothing as good as Sydneys though
in Miami, you couldn't go outside on NYE because the Cubans shoot their guns straight up! Every year people are killed by falling bullets
48 left and getting too tired to find anymore. Goodnight all
goodnight {{lynxx}}
accumulate some extra sleep for NYE!
yay, half, and lunchtime

Hello Babbleland ...
hello FM
Hello Katie, how goes it with you?
good thanks, you?
Happy now we have thawed and temps are up in the ++
I know it's such a relief
Are you working or off this week?
off til the 4th january which is lovely are you off?
I've got some work that needs to be done but taking it easy. Enjoying todays grid for a change.
I don't get to play much any more so making the most of it
Darn it when real life gets in the way :)
I know it should know it's place
My last couple of words are proving very elusive, think I will put the kettle on and come back with fresh eyes. biab.
see you later :-)
good morning. I foudn 59 words last night...
greetings Ladies of the Grid
hi Jean, its just You and I I fear.
I not afeared :-)
happy new year red
happy new year to you. Any resolutions?
Never keep them but I will think about it!
you?
I resolved last year to do some regular volnteer work and did not, so I think this year will be the year...
well, always plenty of that to do around
r u still in RI?
yes, I just have to find something that meets my schedule. and then do it...
when I was unemployed last year
I found this amazing website
volunteermatch.com
I got back to Orlando yesterday.
Oooh I should try it!
you can find something to do every day, once a week, just for a few hours, whatever you want
you put in your parameters and see what comes up
that sounds good. I do live in a rural area, but we still have a lot of needs.
take a look, I think you will be amazed
I thnk I shall! My biggest problem is not having a set schedule at work, so, coming once a week at a certain time gets a little difficult...
then you can get a one-time project
I went and packed food for Haitian children, that was a one time shot
then one sunday I helped at a residence for develp[ disabled adults
there are literacy programs, homeless shelters, long list
that is really great Jean. I have on the short list, working in the school and wokring at our very small food bank. I have a passion for feeding people, its so sad...
that in the US we have hungry people.
I agree, there is no excuse for it
I am fascinated with Gleaners, what a brilliant idea
there is so much food that otherwise goes to waste
but then I kind of know from my job who is using the food bank and I can get annoyed by them arriving with cigarettes in their pockets...
yes, I agree with that too!
I pass "homeless" people every day walking thru chicago and they are always smoking
you could buy a lot of good food for the price of a pack of cigs
oops, connectivity problem, but yes I agree jean. our hike in Cig prices has created a lot of non smokers though...
I know, amazing
good morning people of the grid. I hope the day is amazing for all.
I am sorry to interrupt, but I just cant give someone money when I know it is going to cigs. My x was in jail and cigs are going for 4 dollars each here in NC.
H$Excuse me butting in -- we don't know what it takes for someone to get thro' the day: alcohol, drugs, cigarettes. I feel I give someone money, it's his to spend how best he needs.
part of me believes in what you say and for sure a year or two ago. But when my X wasnt giving child support and I couldnt pay my morgage so that he could buy a case of cigs, no just cant stay with that way of thinking anymore
and I think there are Need, Wants & desires. My x was a raging alcoholic smoker and that is where his money went. Not his kids.

he+cons+small amount*
yes, the small amount literally just "leapt out at me" - after nearly 30 minutes!!!

but the ending is like the mc vities diges*** bisuits.
add some intravenous fluids!
ty zooz;)
yw :-)

if you use the normal spelling you can add another letter infront of the `DO` to get an OD 8 :-)
not sure if i should of clued like that, as that is giving the first three letters..sorry about that.
np;) already had that 1
:-)
i cherry pick all the biggies,get over 2000 points,then just coast,if i finish i finish,if i do not,i have some points lol

you can do it zooz!
been stuck for ages now crossy, watching tv at the same time, so think i will have to list.
if you got down to 8 with no list,i am your new fanboy;)
Most of the words so far , are normal words.
Well as normal as grid words go..lol
ahh just found the ri 7/44 feel better now
what to your seat..lol
lol
ri 7/44 was my first word today. First time ever that my first word was a 7.
Not often i find large word instantly just 4s mostly...so good going, Molly :-)
yaa for molly!
yaa for molly!
mm i seem to have a stutter
It's a total anomaly for me. Must be some kind of New Years gift from The Universe.
watch this ad for seat belt safety, totally perfect!!
http://www.leenks.com/link253310.html
Embrace Life: Always wear your seat belt.
cool commercial does not run here
We have Adverts similar to that but very graphic near christmas or summer holidays.
that iv5 always catches me out, fireworks.
the one i remember the most here was a boating safety advert,it showed a lake, then a boat drifts into view, and in it are a 9 year old and a 7 year old boy wearing life vests.they hare holding each other and very scared.as the boat drifts 3/4 out of the camera shot it pans to the water line and you see dad floating face down in the water with no live jacket on,bumping up against the boat
yaa for zooz
Hard hitting these adverts can be, but i wonder if they make a big difference, not nice to watch either way.
As a Coast Guard brat, I appreciate that commercial. Where is the sense in putting PFD's on your kids and not wearing one yourself.
indeed
too true, Molly.
i was running a boat before i could ride a bike so u understand perfectly
i*
always wear my pfd vest.they are so comfy now and streamlined, not like the old"innertube" vests

hi ruby
Hi all. I am lurking
(((choclits))) hi there.
I am working on getting this research database pulled together... taking a few minutes to just "chill" before plunging in. It's COLD and sunny here today. The boys went skiing... I am home doing laundry and studying.
lol, stid - minute in you mouth...
LOL nan!
hello nan
hiya stidmama
how about how chocolate cake, liquidy in the middle

still a minute in the mouth and 5 years on your hips!
*wiping drool off keyboard before it shorts out* for shame ruby! now I have to BAKE!

I'm one of those little chicken old ladies
Groan. Just come on for half an hour and you're all talking about FOOD!
I'm still fighting a losing battle, ruby
Ivesy, if you're still there... Haven't read anything on it, or ordered any books but the possibilities are unlimited !!!!
hips? where? I got a rugosa rose with LOTS of hips!
me too, those are my hips!
I've just been playing with it !
hey sally! we can talk grad-school research if you prefer?
Funny you should say that stid :-)
hello sally, let's talk about stidmama's research paper hahah
Did you all have a good Christmas?
thanks for the he 6 (way earlier) btw
sally, I'm afraid Christmas was all about food and fossils and thinking of your lucky son in Egypt!
Actually, I'd rather be in England :-)
I've never been to Egypt
it would be odd to have Christmas there.....
with all that snow??? England seems a scary place when it snows.
I found it odd once to have Christmas in LA. Hot sunshine and pictures of Father Christmas on a snowy sledge :-)
Christmas in Egypt... hm. *considers whether they have trees with lights*
Santa arrived by boat.
pulled by 8 dolphins?
:-D I think Santa in Puerto Rico came on an airplane. We got a scrawny tree that was shipped in from the mainland.
Not sure about the dolphins. All I know is that small grandson rushed into the water fully clothed and had to greet Santa in the altogether :-)
oh man, I am completely distracted. down to 56 and going to get some more stuff in that database. Or else. *determined grad student look* back later! *poof*
92 and stalled
hope there is a list
good night everybody
bye ruby

:)
*Running in to give Stid a New Year's hug before she dashes out of here again*

ty -- was trying to put a different ending on it
a lot of their stuff is there
"mom! let's move on.. I'm leeeeeaaving..."
later m!
Yes, but were those Canadian artists as famous at The Baronets.
the baronets?
since i do not know the barnetes,i would have to say yes lol
The Baronets was a trio that Celine's husband Grandpa was in.
lol, wonder how i missed them lol
I saw some of the collection when it was at the BC art gallery in Victoria -- would love to be able to visit the McMichael
They basically ripped off Beatles tunes Cross. Very laughable.
my mrs calls celine "the screamer" lol
okay, down to my last birthday (that'll leave 'em wondering) and off to check laundry and then back to the papers. *virtuous student look* back as soon as I can... *reluctant poof*
I don't se 30th there stid!
well, sadly i must head off to work;((
tc everyone and happy babbing
POINK!!
bye crossy - a demain
bye crossy
is the chog dead or has my machine crashed
or both
hi ata - how are you
tired from a day on the beach!
on the beach? - doing what - surely not swimming
a bit of paddling lol. no, monitoring velvet swimming crab mortality events
i saw your photo on flickr - is this a problem
it's becoming a yearly event, certainly
with the cold snaps over winter, velvet swimming crabs are apparently very sensitive to temperature
hmm - sounds like a temperature change thing in the sea - do they suffer from rapid changes
oh yes, they all get washed onto the shore the morning after any particularly cold winter night
obviously they do - if you are studying anything get in touch with the office and we might be able to supply sea temps and air temps over the sea
oh, that would be interesting
we're starting to keep much more detailed records now it's happening every year - Kent Wildlife Trust and the Thanet Coast Project together
we have a buoy at about 50N 00E and also at sabndetti - just off the French coast. i think you will find that the sea temps well lag behind the air temps. I wonder if its the shock from relatively warm seas to freezing cold temps at night at low tide
that's what I'm thinking ... it has to be a huge thermal shock
really, I've never seen anything like the beaches today. Every year has been bad, but this was just insane. So many thousands washed up
cos now they recommend that you cool any shellfish donw before you kill it to cook it - things like lobsters etc
yep, cool it or even freeze it (slowly)
is it the same time every year? coinciding low temps and very low tides
a few lobsters washed up today too :)
you have intrigued me - is there any easy way to get to you - do you face book
the last 2 years at least have definitely been the day after a big drop in temperature - that really cold period last year, and CHristmas Eve onwards this year
becky.hitchin@kentwildlife.org.uk - probably easiest!
I think we've got some temp logs too, a local guy puts out dataloggers for sea temps every few days, and he might have caught the temp changes
i have a quiet period at work at the minute - i will have a look at the data and drop a line to you
that would be great! I should be able to pull together the dates for the mortalities over the last few years then can compare
okay - have written the email address down and will drop you a line tomorrow
thank you! isn't it fun to find tangential things to be interested in
its great - its a cliche but i love the weather and its affects. i had a very interesting conversation with an old chap when i was first in the job about when salmon spawn well and from his records and his fathers records they found a difference in number at century end and mid century and this lead to a study which give an idea that the change in sea temp might have an affect
it is amazing, it affects so much more than most people realise. I loved doing physical oceanography at uni cos that was all about the large-scale ocean/atmosphere interactions and I found that just incredible
and that's one of the things I've found about working for Kent Wildlife Trust, as soon as you mention it, people just start talking to you about anything and everything and it's always fascinating
We run a wave model at work that has all sorts of elements in it
we're having another big temp related thing at work - the Kent coast is getting steadily invaded by Pacific oysters, and it's been proved pretty much that in areas of slightly higher sea temperature, the recruitment and settlement of the oyster larvae is significantly higher
there's one bay called Pegwell Bay which has just slightly higher temps (big mud flats at low tide, outflow from a local power station) and the oysters are colonising that bay like mad
wow and i suppose with shipping in the channel dropping ballast water (i know they are not supposed to) we must get a lot of foreign invaders liking the slightly warmer seas.
ohhhhh yes
we have *so* many invasives coming in. 3 huge harbours do not help
its become too small a world in many respects.
yes ... we did a survey in Ramsgate harbour a few weeks ago
at least 4 species of Pacific seaweeds, Pacific oysters, a barnacle from Australia ...
ooh - thats a lot
yes ... it's our big push this year to start really recording in detail where all the invasives are
I've got to spend tomorrow plotting out sample locations for our of our more problematic new seaweeds
its also very difficult to get rid of them - in the rivers in Wales they are invaded by Himalayan Balsam and its terrible stuff
it's pretty much impossible, unless you see them starting to come into the area
if you notice them once they are established, it's very very hard work
there's a new possible "cure" for spartina invasion though - that's the reedy grass that takes over salt marshes
yeah cos once they area here most seem to out compete the local stuff
there seems to be a type of invertebrate (snail? I think) that eats only the non-native Spartina - but biological control is always a worry ...
that will be interesting - i love the salt marshes
I *love* salt marshes
Hi
hi herin!
Hope your Christmas was fantastic
there are some lovely ones to the north of the Gower - we walked there on my 50th, Hi Herin - we had a fabby Christmas - did you
it was good!
we have a lot of salt marshes down here too, huge bird habitats and a lot of very squelchy mud!!
I just got rid of some Lantana. Worst plant ever to kill. It is a weed. I had to use poison though which is unfortunate
Is that were you been hiding Ata?
Kaz Christmas was the usual in our house
sometimes one dose of poison is a lot less trouble all round than more complicated and "environmentally friendly" solutions
pretty much!
Ata this damn plant is better burnt out but the fence was there so that was a stern no idea (spoil sports they are)
Ata is that a baby Silly kitty?
it's a grown-up sily kitty!
a few weeks ago :)
herin - i was just reading about it and it says that the seeds are fire resistant
well thats a good adpatation!
Kazz the bush isn't though
thats true
anyone got the li 5/10
Atalante.... I just spent a good bit of time looking at your photos. They are incredible!! I envy anyone who has easy access to the ocean. ...love your "Hobbit" ! Now I'm going to a map of England to see just where these places are !!!
oh thank you diane! Being near the sea has to be my biggest joy - and Hobbit's biggest joy too!
nm got it

HI Diane and Sue
You were speaking of the environment a little while ago, and this item just appeared on my local news link.... some people !! http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/201 0/12/30/16709836.html
hi everyone
hi herin :-)
hi sue :-)
O dear the complaining is about to start. Any one want a cat
silly silly people!
i am now down to 14 left
herin is the cat feeling left out
we used to picnic and walk in the park where that stream runs
go kazz
go go Kaz!
hopefully if it's only water tracer dye, there shouldn't be any long term effects
Yes. He doesn't want to know me. I got up and played with him not good enough. Himself gets up and its all ''Daaaaaaaaaad play'' and as he had spare time he got to be played with. Now himself has gone to work so there is complaining
thats typical - i would love a cat but i can guarantee that if we do - i will be the one that gets stalked and kiled whilst hubby will get all the loving
of course. obstinate little creatures
And Madam kitty wants a cuddle but heaven forbid you touch her
Kazz I have 2 cats. One that is mine one that is his. They chose their human food slaves
yes - but all cats seem to want to eat me - after i have tickled them of course
thats because you stopped tickling them
Awww Kaz. Mine does but that is because she plays for keeps
hi
hi
hi sadie :-)
no ata you tickle until they decide they have had enough - saunter off and then come back and snack on bits of me happens everytime
hiya diane and herin
hi sadie
Kaz you realise they are probably marking you as theirs.
thats because they *love* you LOL
hiya Kazzer
yes - which in it self is quite nice but i have a bad allergy to cat bites and scratches - turns into something resembling flu
THat isn't good
oh ick
its funny though - specially when i go to bro in laws - they have 5 cats
sounds painful, not funny!
You allergic to them as a whole Kaz?
fireworks for me - no herin - most of the time i am fine - its just the biting and scatching thing
Yah on fireworks.
Can I show you the most adorable cute tough guy pic
yes do - i will be off soon - must look on facebook and hten have a bath before bed
http://tinyurl.com/2be6top
hmm - they are both quite cute!!
I thought it was cute. I live these so called big tough guys then they have their cute tiny little pets. It is too adorable
do you twitter at all - if you dont look at this url or google professor snowball images, he's Jonathan ross;s new puppy. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl= http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lcd0 dynj3o1qax2zeo1_500.jpg&imgrefurl=http ://alxbrlw.tumblr.com/page/13&h=374&w= 500&sz=36&tbnid=PVcJtCwYzJjVYM:&tbnh=9 7&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dprofesso r%2Bsnowball%2Bimages&zoom=1&q=profess or+snowball+images&usg=__Cl562buBS5VZF QixcuI7HvgyyOA=&sa=X&ei=uvkcTa3zL9KKhQ fj54C3Dg&ved=0CCMQ9QEwAw

alembick -- how do you use the kindle in your classroom? what grade? *curious because I am researching tech use in classrooms for my master's project*

Hello, lynxxx. I am just starting the grid with my friend.
Hi Mark

been in and out all day in between trying to co-ordinate travel arrangements for next year's cruise
yw Bugs
a cruise! how wonderful.
never been on one but everyone who has says it is such a lovely way to be spoiled
pampered is right -- 13 days of being catered to
I could get right into that in no time!
could only go tho if husband was allowed in the engine room to play with the engines.....
probably not, but he could take a tour of the bridge
jo 6/39 please?
no good. He is a retired heavy duty mechanic with a work shop. He doesn't want to be in charge. He wants to get dirty! a holiday of being pampered doesn't appeal to him. I
Hope you enjoy it tho !
made it back to NYC, finally!
sorry Luv
Hi shirloc

yes, they were up at white pass today. I stayed home to study (about 3 hours' worth) and do a few household chores (about 2 hours' worth) -- somehow that adds up to 8 hours...
Disaster movies can induce a panic attack, e.g. pondering an apocalypse from disease or bombs etc, or thinking of massive and widespread terrorist attacks...see, now I am getting anxious!
Good for them, Stid.
I started watching night of the living dead with the younger stidkid the other day. got halfway through and asked to switch to something more my speed... I think we chose a doctor who.
