firewords and goodnight
guess what? last word in the grid is a babblet. What ho!
late flip & hi all
anyone left?
another babblet in de6/24 .... only in academia I suspect
Hi VolleymomDee short but awkward grid today.
Hi VolleymomDee short but awkward grid today.
hi scouser
doesn't look quite as nasty as yesterday's :~)
Nice word in ar7 for spinners
once again lots of phantoms - it would have been about 500 with an S in it!
I actually found that one!!
I bet
great
do you have the first fe 5 please
nm found it was looking at the wrong f... lol
the f's were difficult to put in - grid kept going to the "wrong" one
exactly
fe5/16 is description of lines on paper fe5/18 is Scots lease word
ty
same thing with the p's
Yes and my Latin kept getting in the way too!
lol... never took latin... a blessing and a curse
help with the po 6/24 please
I think it is to do with betting - small horse at front
fish slap.... ty ty
a past tense word
what is fish slap?!
means "duh, I should have seen that"
Aha those word paths that twist remind me of my cat: it was watching a squirrel on the tree, and when the squirrel ran down, the cat turned its head upside down too
sounds comical
it was - I fell off chair laughing. Cat is agoraphobic but is keen to sit in window observing.
would have been a perfect photo opportunity... where are our cameras when we need them the most :~)
too true.
well that's fireworks for me
ah - clues for the na4/7 please
na + 2 letter word .... _ _ I do this, then this will happen....
means a naive or inexperienced person
well fish slap again ! ty
yqw lol
but then what is the first na4 I have missed?
bread it was. got it. Fireworks now
tough to clue na 4/4... looks like a lady's name with another vowel in the middle... it's a flatbread
wtg!!! congrats...
sorry slow connection tonight
well, I am off till the morrow... have a great day!
waving...********
good morning everybody
morning ruby.how is your hubby doing?
and you?
hello lillian
he is doing much better, thank you, actually came downstairs on his own for the first time this morning without telling me aaargh!
I am very tired, but he is definitely getting through this!
oh dear!but good that he can do it
glad to hear he is better and you need to rest aswell
and the nurse still comes every day and MD is coming this afternoon. I think the antibiotics finally kicked in.
well atleast you're getting the medical support aswell.good to hear they are finally working
I am very relieved!
i'm sure you are.it's been a very stressful time for you lately aswell having to do alot of things which is why you're so tired.you need to take it easy aswell ruby
I think it was probably good for me. My legs are much stronger from all the extra stuff (and all the stairs!)
healing hugs for hubby and caring hugs to you
thank you, lilliann, you are very sweet!!!!
stairaerobics...can't beat it :)
my eyes are going funny looking at this grid today!!
yesterday's was a bear!
this is hard, but it's the first time I've sat down this AM
ahh, well i hope you have a cup of tea with you and put your feet up for a while, even if it is to babble!i've got washing up to do and a few jobs but i had to babble first! it's alot more important!! :)
I did my chores first, then I could sit down, guilt-free
oh, i don't feel guilty!! lol
teak
dint
whoops, sorry
i've done some washing, so atleast i've done something nd i'm still in my pyjamas!
coffee in the PB?
np, but i have those 2 :((
more than likely
i like green tea
did you try making yorkshire puddings ruby?
green tea is supposed to be very beneficial, full of anti-oxidants
not yet, it's been all I could do to make husband's :favorite foods" and feed the dogs!
yes, it is
I have the recipe in front of me, however, and when I get my second wind, I may try it today.....
i'm also drinking oolalong tea, something like that anyway
is he putting on some weight?
what is it like?
he is trying, but as 3500 calories = one lb, it will be difficult
but he's eating very well
not bad.my favourite is sweet fennel and nettle tea
where do you find such exotica?
that's alot of calories, but he obviusly needs it
tescos
this is a very conservative area, food-wise. If it doesn't have cheese on it, they won't eat it
and other supermarkets
lol
do you have an english shop nearby ruby?
we don't have big markets here except very ordinary ones where I'm lucky to find organ meats for the dogs
do you not have a super u or leclercs near?
maybe, I'll have to check
leclercs advertises on TV, but I've never seen a store. We're really in the sticks!
my mam and dad are too, but luckily enough there is a super u and lidls about 20 minutes away
we have a lidl, but it is next to a drug place and there are junkies in the parking lot. I'm afraid to go there alone. It is near our halal butcher.
the other side of Annecy!
not surprising ruby, i wouldn't either
before, husband did the marketing, but I think it will be a while before he can drive (I hope) as he wasn't so great at it before
we'll see what the doctor says today
driving or shopping ruby??!! lol
do you drive?
both, hahah
hehe
this grid isn't nice!!
yes, but I don't like it. I had to go to the hospital every day (20-30 mins each way, 8 lights, 14 circles) and do all the grocery shopping.
I don't even have half. Do you have any of the big words?
mmm, roundabouts aren't good in france as the french aren't very good on them!
i have 2 x 7's want clues?
they have "priority on the right" in their genes, and are very unpredictable
i'm just over half way
I have 52 words
do you have the 8 or any 7's?
yes, please
exactly ruby.i don't drive in france, i let hubby do it
I am better at it than husband, because my vision is better, but I don't have the heart to make him stop driving, even tho he's 85
ae7 goes of the 4, if that helps!
i'm trying to think of clues but my head is hurting!!
putting those lazy monkeys to work!
some one from ae4
ae and alt spelling of vegetable that makes you cry ruby
ty, got the ae7
ar7-ais to do with spiders
yw
a and a boy r** down to the pond to see an ***er duck
got the spider, ty. There is a lovely one living in my bathroom and I can't bring myself to kill her. She is do delicate and lacy
i use to have a big one in the lounge but i think one of the cats got him! he was called bert
that's husband's name, hahah I had one outside who I used to feed flies. She was a common European garden spider, multi-colored and lovely
the only ones I kill are the big black ones that don't have webs and jump
the one I fed was an argiope and I named her Caliope
that's a lovely name
I have no latin, but I think the words rhymed....
i'm not up on my spiders! i know what a tarantula looks like but i couldn't tell you what the little ones are called
she was yellow, orange, black and white with stripes and spots - gorgeous
she sounds lovely.did you ever take a picture of her?
I have a photo and I wiki'ed spiders and found a European expert who identified her for me. I just wanted to make sure she wasn't poisonous as I don't know European wildlife very well
I have it in my computer (some place) and will send it, if you like. My e-mail is in my profile
it doesn't do her justice!
last summer i got some lovely pictures im my mam's back yard of lizards, butterflies and a hummingbird moth which is beautiful and lovely to watch
the only poisonous spiders in Europe are black widows and they're only in southern Italy and Sicily
that would be great ruby, i'll email you mine
Hawk Moth, I think. We get them in the buddleias and both husband and son were convinced they were hummingbirds but I recognized the bent proboscus (sp?)
they are easier to identify (for me) than butterflied because they hover. The butterflies move to fast
when I planted this garden, I made it very insect, bird and bat-friendly.
when I planted this garden, I made it very insect, bird and bat-friendly.
these were humming bird ones and we some them in the village.
i got a lovely picture of a butterfly on a flower
I made the terrible mistake of killing two anguis fragillis, thinking they were vipers. They were in the studio and we even destroyed the eggs. I felt terrible about it as they're are very good for the garden
my mam gets loads of different things but i suppose it's because they are in the country and have a large garden
and absolutely harmless
never heard of them ruby
our other lizards are just brown and black, but lovely, nonetheless
it's a legless lizard, golden. I should have known better, but having them in the studio was a little creepy and there are vipers here.
could you send me the photo of the butterfly? Did you identify it?
i'll have to google it
there is only one other kind of snake here, coulouvre or something, very large and harmless, but I've never seen one
i've just looked and still quite scary looking, well for me anyway as i'm terrified of snakes!
all my neighbors have seen vipars, but now I have seen enough pictures not to make the same mistake again. Husband is terrified of snakes
vipers*
snap!
stupid me is only afraid of harmless worms in vegetables and mushrooms. How dumb is that?
we had snakes in our garden when i was first married.they were in the compost heap and my charming ex hubby chased me around the garden with them, knowing full well i don't like snakes!!!probably why he is an ex!!!
that is very mean!
what kind of snakes were they?
I don't compost because of the worms. I can't face it
I need two words for half and then I have to make lunch for husband
no it's not.lots of people are scared of worms, i think it's probably because they're slippery.i'll pick them up but i have to have my gardening gloves on!
I don't mind them in the garden so much if I'm wearing gloves, but in the kitchen.....eeew
i think one of them was a viper has it had a red arroe mark on it's head, but i wasn't standing around too long to see it ruby!!
and I don't mind caterpillars
lol
did ex actually touch it?
yay, half!
yes,but i don't thik he realized until afterwards.he had 2 or 3 in his hand, and i just saw this red and that was it!shame it didn't bite him!!!
he would have deserved it!
i have 52 left and am off to do a couple of things and rest my tired brain!!
aye, he would have :)))
I've handled boas and grass snakes but husband can't even look at my photos
see you later, this was an edifying chat!! I'll look for the spider photo and, if your like, send you some roses and peonies from last spring
when i was about 5, a zoo would bring some animals to school and i had a 25 foot python around my neck, she was huge and i think it just frightened me, and since then i'm petrified
a 25-ft python could eat a little kid!
that would be lovely ruby, and thanks for the chat :)
she was lovely but very heavy and i panicked a bit
have you read about the Burmese pythons in the Everglades? People brought them in illegally and then let them go when they got too big. They eat everything in sight!
hi all, and what in the hell are the zoo people doing putting a python on top of a 5-y-o???
that is too big for a child to handle. I learned to handle snakes at a faculty party when I was a little tipsy and the host handed me a grass snake. It was little and pretty and I got over my aversion
hello Gwen and good bye, off to make lunch
no, i've not read that ruby.people do that with all sorts of reptiles as they can't cope with them when they get bigger.i've read about people putting baby crocodiles down the toilets!!
hi gwen
bfn ruby
that's the great urban myth in NY, that there are alligators and crocodiles in the sewers.....
*poof*
i was thrilled to hold her, and the zoo people had hold of her too, but when she started moving around my neck i did panic a bit
i'm okay with most animals and whatnot, but centipedes creep me out lol
that's not surprising, because of all the little legs
and those little critters are fast!
it's like toads and frogs, but i suppose that's because they are slimy
they are gwen..lol but then i suppose they should be as they have enough feet!lol
i'm off to rest my brain for a while.bfn gwen
actually, toads and frogs are not slimy as a rule
bye bye lilliann!
Good morning everyone
hello sally and all others.
Clue for pe8?

Hi sprite and all babblers
hi Norma, it is a K grid :(
It is a bit slow some weird words ;o)
found 4 Ks so far... harharharrrrrr
Lots of n's not many n words
hey indeed
kannot see past the Ks until I grey out the tile.
does trying kraion mean I am desparate?
No just trying lol
pfui, what a relief :D

oh thanks Sara! Only 2 left now.
my pleasure
ah got them. Now for some babbling, lol.
8 k's????????????????????
love your icon sprite - what a lot of beautiful birds!
yeah. I can vouch for them being there now. But I had to dig them up from 6 feet under with a tooth pick.
thanks Sara :)
ka4/8 x four, ko5/18 x two, kr5/18, kr5/20
cute baby booties, SaraY... did you knit them yourself?
I'm done and heading for bed!!
Yes I did sprite. I sell them at a local market. They have sheepskin soles. Some have beanies to match.
awww so very cute. Good job! I like knitting too, I should take it up again. Your booties are inspiring me to start again :)
sleep well, SaraY
Thanks sprite :) Years and years ago I used to do a lot of knitting. I started again when my first grandbaby was born and my daughter's friends saw the booties and orders started to come in. I got carried away and then had to find an outlet - hence the local market.
wonderful!
8 K's, 13 Q's...it's all relative. Good morning everyone.
hi Molly. Nah, 'all' is about the only thing that isn't relative ;)
And of course the first K I tried was karate, because my eyes were convinced it was there.
I tried that too!
dnbt. Koran- no?
I want aardvark
Every time I see that word, I hear Aurthur in the episode about the spelling bee.
*goes to youtube to look that up*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxvIfAz BbTI
lol that is funny
Koran needs a kapital, I think
The grid has capitals!
lol true, but I am afraid that is all the capitals you will get in babble...
hmmmf.
morning all
morning carlee
hi sprite
morning everyone!
hi cwestexan
hi cwest
Darrin's mother-in-law is here!
Calling Dr. Bombay!
Endora!
:)
Coffee time
If anyone watches "Castle", I've always thought that Susan Sullivan (who plays his Mother) would make a great Endora in a Bewitched re-make.
not something that sounds familiar to me. Might not be on TV here.
Interesting show premise. A murder mystery novelist teams up with a homicide detective.

sorry to hear that Carlee
All good, thanks Mom. :-). Sprite - my daughter survived Amsterdam, and I think Amsterdam survived her!!
go right ahead, sometimes images and word like these help us get a focus.
lol Soodle, I haven't heard anything to the contrary. She kept low profile ;) Glad she had a good time.
oh..its ok mom...she is made of tougher stuff...
If you put someone's ashes into an urn...wouldn't they be "urned"? Seems like a good word to me!
I tried it too, car.ee. Seems perfectly valid to me.
apparently not
Don't know about 'urned', Car, but if you have their ashes, you can be sure they were Burned!
stupid enable
LOL Soodle!
sounds like a good saying to me. "Carlee's ex was burned and urned."
Tee hee!
ROFL. I love it!!
<snort> now now...i dont hate the man like that...
Clue for the right column N please?
let's say I meant it metaphorically then!
I can hear the battle cry.... Burn 'Em and Urn ' Em.....
we actually had a really good day working together on sat....and..honestly..i think that is why he is now doing what he's doing..a bit of sour grapes
a nest or brood of pheasants, for the N

Did anyone watch that Jeopardy with Watson last night? There was a mistake thaat no one corrected. There is no museum in Boston called Galillee. That Rembrandt was stolen from the Gardner.
wow.....didnt watch tho...
I watched it, but I didn't catch the mistake. I'll have to rewatch it.
I'm very disappointed in the match. The questions are too unambiguous to make it fiar
I expected the judges to deduct the points.
*fair
It's a big commercial for IBM
thx for the word, bichon :-)
I agree Kaplan
OOps- I am in the PB.
good morning, all :)
Send me some chocolate.
sorry, a typo on my part
sorry, a typo on my part
It's me that used the word. Address all cards and letters care of PB.
i need breakie..not sure whati want...
firing choc Kalan
carlee, where are you?
Morning friends
*to Kaplan
in bed atm... with a cat on my ass
Missed the watson final -- did watson win?
No, I was looking at your flag and it's definitely not the maple leaf
We went to the local theatre to see the 10 tenors from Australia
oh...egypt..silent support :)
Watson won big time. It was a rout. Watson is fast with the buzzer, nothing else
I see Carlee. Thought you were abroad
nope....at home..just silent support....wondering now how i can put iran, bahrain and libya all at same time :p
the humans should just press the buzzer immediately
I think they've been trying
adn throw in palestine for good measure :)
I would like to see them correct that museum error tonight.
Were the questions rigged as to style? -- I noticed in the first round that Watson was not so speedy nor accurate when the answer required some deductive powers
or who can i trust?
They were all pretty fact-based, not language based
oh -- is there a round 3 tonight?
Yep
I think anyone with factual access will do well. The Final Jeopardy question, the one about American cities where Watson chose Toronto was an example where he lacks deductive reasoning.
Yes nan, the final is tonight
That was just stupid.
down to last 40 -- going to list now, so will disappear for a bit!
the center a, a clue please
hi all. i have no k words. any help out there?
Kaplan, I will watch the tape from last night and see if I catch the mistake. Do you know where in the show it was?
ka4, 4, 4, 4
stopping in to say hi, but don't forget that "American" can mean North American/South American/Central American - so it's not a problem of deductive reasoning, but a problem of the programmers who neglected to specify for Watson
hmmmm
Watson's errors are all human errors, of course
it was U.S. cities, should have been more specific
I missed last night's show, would like to see it somewhere
But I don't think a human would have made that error. If you think of US cities which are know for having two airports, Chicago would come up first, with maybe NYC later.
it should have said United states not america. i think they did that on purpose. america is larger and there are more cities.
And, a WW II battle, Midway comes to mind easily
can't comment, since I didnt' watch the show and don't know the exact question - but I find the whole thing fascinating
I'd rather watch Ken and Brad any day
Middle a, a clue pleas for NBT
what does it mean when the first word I found today is the do 4,9 ?
Probably just that you were working that first, top left corner.
aslindy, if you count up the numbers on the tiles it will add up to nine. That's for a 4 letter word
bichon, I know... I found the word, it was the first one I found today
nm, got a word from the middle a
I don't have a particular starting point, I am just interested to note the first word I find each day
gotta run, all, class starts in 20 minutes and I am still at home *poof*
okay
For me, it is just whatever jumps out at me when I first look at the grid. Yesterday, all I could see was JOY.
yes, it's interesting to see what jumps out
I usually look in the top left corner. Just like in reading
I play a game like this against other people, in short timed rounds... I tend to NOT start in that corner, because everyone does.
is that Serpentine, aslindy?
just came back from the IBM Smarter Planet Blog - I see that the airport question did not mention either U.S. or America but that the question category was U.S. Cities - so Watson's error was about how to weigh the category in its search
dint
oops..good morning everyone
hi crossy - in the PB already?
Cross di4/5 do it. Nope, uh-uh, he di 4/5.
I put some leftover Valentine cookies in there. Hope they aren't stale - hahaha.
I'm making ice cream sandwiches with my leftover Valentine cookies.
Yum!
a better size grid
hi all
howdy jmc
need some help for my last 3... ur 5 (the first one) please?
monkeyed it
ae 7, please?
oh -- monkeyed that too -- lol!
i was wondering if Watson has an unfair advantage with ringing in
did they factor in how long it takes a person to think about ringing in to the actual moment the thumb moves and the time it takes for the thumb to compress the button?
ae 7=a very,very old person
*!* ta da *!*
Don't know exactly where in the show the error was.
whoo hooo cyber
ty anyway, crossy
what was the error kap i just walked in
The whole Watson on Jeepardy thing gives me the creeps. It's like Hal from "2001 A Space Odyssey".
I wonder how many thousanads of e-mails the show has received over it?
it's that calm controlled voice that gives me the creeps
actually it was interesting the number of people i know who do not generally watch jeopardy who watched last night because of the news shows
The error was that a Rembrandt waas stolen from a museum in boston called Galilee. It was the Isabel Stewart Garddner Museum.
well i am sure that Jeopardy will comment on that today even though it was taped
NPR had a really interesting segment about Watson yesterday
hi une
howdy
help with the A in the middle please
Unless there is a museum in Boston I haven't heard of in the past 30 years
ai4/5
that is possible kap :-)
*duh* slap me with a fish and ty une
:-D
At the moment, I am feeling very nauseated --not nauseous- that would mean I'm making YOU nauseated- and am not sure what is wrong with me.
i am glad to here i am not the cause!
*hear
Wokeup feelingsick.Today and tomorrow are my heaviest client days, of course.
of course
I don't think it woulld be polite for a therapist to throw up on a client's shoes.
koran
try some ginger tea kap -- that always settles the tummy
Might make for an interesting transference.
koran is not in dict?????????wonder if bible is.
Good idea.
considering what clients do to therapists it might be fair play
yes mkg the bible is but then it is used as a generic word: the IRS is the bible of tax lawyers
ha!
I happen to have some ginger tea on hand.
if you just have dried ginger you can make it too
the O in the bottom corner please?
No I have ginger tea- my daughter left some here.
It's a fish, jm. as in the door is ajar.
jm that is a mighty big fish
hmmm
Ajar.
*smack*
boy some days!
hi dorens
hi. shouldn't be here... am in denial
Denial of what?
i even thought to myself--i bet o4/5 is in this grid
what are you in denial about? I could deny it with you
the amount of work i should be doing right now!
lol
just opened to look at the grid and got sucked in, and i really shouldn't. i really can't
think of this as a way to give your brain a warmup exercise so it wont pull a muscle
Okay, I just got the low down about the computer on Jeopardy. I'll have to take a look tonight.
my stupid ex-bil will probably show up early tonight for the first time in his history
i didn't have coffee this morning... am drinking first cup now.. that's my excuse
It's not really that interesting.
did you all see the study which showed that coffee helped women focus but not men?
hmmm.. interesting. (the coffee study).
and i now have nbt.. will be back at lunch... bye
i find it interesting kap--but think that watson probably has an unfair advantage on ringing in
wtg dorens
It is interesting but I had to ff through the IBM hype
nbt
Just on ringing in? How about the extensive knowledge base programmed into that thing that could not possibly exist in a human brain?
OK I get it. Computers pack a lot of knowledge. But they will never be witty.
well there was an aspect of watching a VERY long IBM commercial to it
what is interesting is the ability to answer given slang and puns and wordplay by jeopardy
Are you sure this ginger tea is going to work? Otherwise, if I have to barf, I hope I can save it till my 6 o'clock client
all of that is helpful for humans but for linear thinkers it is not
Why are two of my words red and underlined twice?
There wasn't that much wordplay I thought, compared to usual
ginger tea will work
wierd cherry
do you particularly dislike your 6 o'clock client? how does that make you feel?
;-)
6 o'clock client is a couple. They sit and bicker.
Just like home.
have you suggested that they say one nice thing to each other each day?
<===just gave the entirety of couples therapy advice
I told them to have 3 dinners together last week, and they came in and sayd, "so we can eat. Now what?"
are you familiar with couple support therapy? let me look up what i am thinking about
I am more interested in bash couple over the head therapy.
In this case.
www.bettermarriages.org
not sure that would be the best long term strategy for building your practice! lol
*finds some lavender for aroma therapy for kap*
*fluffs up some pillows on kaps sofa and then heads to pb*
what did you say?
fi4s
okay time for me to toddle off and pretend to work
bbl for the 74 left
HAve to drink my gingerT
.. knocks on chog door, anyone home?
best couple therapy is alternate daily massages
hi crossy!
ahoy aloy!
hi kje!
Sadly, I think there are couples who seek therapy who just don't like each other anymore.
hi MollyL.. yup, they wait a bit too long or maybe they outgrew each other long before
nothing says love like hands on massaging away the aches and pains of a hard day
howdy aloy
And then they go to a counselor, expecting that person to "fix things".
and sometimes they are just too broken
massage sounds like a great therapy.. but what if you are angry? (hands around the neck, lol)
when my sister in law decided she wated a divorce (she had a affair) my brother talked her into going to therapy... the second session the therapist asked her if she had any desire to truly work on the relationship and she said no. he said they need not come back
I've watched people stay together for years and years due to their idea that they are "obligated" not because they are still in love.
you have to be friends first, then talk about anything and everything no matter how silly, and never ridicule, ever, sex is in there, but it is not the be all and end all,but a part of the whole..but that is just me
she stupidly thought this man would marry her... she is now alone
think she made that decision when she stepped out on your bro, kje
*Laughing at Aloy's "neck massage"*
sad... they had a youg boy who just cried and cried
I don't know how many couples would pass Cross's "never ridicule" rule.
aww.. that is sad, kje
hello everybody, back to try for a few more words before dinner
hi ruby (-:
16 left here - wana race, ruby?
there is nothing better than a good massage at the end of a hard day,i have 5 or 6 scented oils a obus forme back massage device,it really save on hand fatigue, you warm the oil in one of those scent diffusers and i have those serenity cd,s playing softy in the background
((ruby))
aah, sounds wonderful crossy
16 vs 55, I doubt it! But it's nice to see all my babbl friends
you massage for about 30 minutes or until their skin is all tingly and they have problems walking
oh, crossy, will youmarry me?
sorry ruby..one woman at a time for me,but i am flattered
{{loves crossy}}
(tell elegant not to worry, I am too old for that stuff!
but, ruby... i must enter all n words multiple times! it is like I will be doing 50!
10
she says,if i leave my old socks on the floor one more time, you can have me
hahah, kje, your advice was truly valuable. I sprung (sprang) DH out of hospital and he is doing much better at home
now I am "enriching" his food to help him gain back some of the lost weight
that is wonderful... you must be a great nurse, ruby!
if I survive it, yes. If not, he'll be SOL
glad to hear he is improving, rubyfoo
better SOL at home than SOL with strangers!
exactly
and he's eating like a champ
5
Glad to hear your husband is doing so well, Ruby.
hospital food sucks
I was bringing him homemade stuff to eat, but he wouldn't ask for it in the evening. I think he's part chow!
(known for their stubbornness)
as in a dog?
yes, we have chow chows
they are the most stubborn, like extremely large cats
ah
I had a chow - named shalom... smartest dog ever
house-traied in a day, learned to sit, stay, heel i a afternoon
you say "here boy" and he looks around and turns his back (that's the dog, not DH)
hey all. *pushes ahead of ruby in line to marry cross*
Jewish chow?
hi stidmama!!
Crossy is a romantic.
and hi to Kap too!
we have had 5 of them and they are wonderful besides being the most beautiful! And they are definitely Jewish, if only converts
hey kaplan! hey alyoisius!

that would make the dogs italian... (ciao)
YAY kje!!!
ooh.. congrats, kje, wtg!!!
especially not chows
chosen - stiicky n
I missed that the first time hahah
Ruby, that leads into an old Lenny Bruce routine.
I'm listening......
speaking of dogs...
{loved Lenny Bruce) am I old or what?
what, stid?
I have o idea who leny bruce was
It's really long but it's something like in New York your Jewish even if you're not, and in Minnesota you're not Jewish even if you are.
You have no idea who Lenny Bruce was?
our dogs are Max and Ruby
I love that, Kap!!!!
kje-he was George Carlin's insipration for the 7 deadly words
my elegants mother was in the hosp this morn with pnemonia,of course she is a stubborn old bird and refuses to stay
sound like Jewish grandparents
Kap, we must do an intervention for kje.

The ginger tea may be helping, but I made it too strong.

all the bulbs are several inches up because of the unseasonably warm Jan. If we have a real frost, we'll have no spring flowers
Yes, Aloy, flowers are a great pick-me-up
you offered, though, molly
they absolutely transform a room
Someone brought pink roses into our office and they are so pretty, I took a picture of them.
mine are buried under about two feet of snow, so I don't think they'll be coming up any time soon....

<passing stiddy a carepackage of choclit muffins for class to bribe the teacher with >
*grin* teacher will not even SEE it! LOL
I still don't get how the computer didn't know the answer.
Or how it knew it probably wouldn't know the answer and wagered low. Creepy.
the clue that was given didn't specifically mention U.S. city, so the computer looked for other cities as well
there are toronto's elsewhere
illinois, indiana, iowa, kansas, missouri
I thought the category said U.S. Cities? Am I wrong?
crossy is back, all scraped down, soaped up,scrubbed of and ready to face my adoring public:)
hey cross! so THAT is what you look like! nice to see you after your annual ablutions...
The category did say US but within the question it did not repeat the US
i started the food porn again crossy
mmm food porn....
i even combed my beard;))
and that is me, down to a nice 20, and heading out for this conference thingy. *sigh* back in a few hours. I can spend this evening working on other tasks I have been putting off, and then tomorrow is ALL paper, ALL the time.

LOL I wish I were already done with today's meeting. *poof*
hi baboon
bafoon
you are hatching owls?
i am not

I don't get how a super smart computer does not extend the category US Cities into solving the answer to the question.
hahaha.. iread I dont get how a supermart computer does not .....

Hello again everyone - back for my last 3 words - all little n's

Okay, well as long as muffins are not the root of all evil, pits of garbage and time vampires...I guess we're all good.
i dont like this grid...am stuck with 55 to go
Hi River.

free clue po7 = po + you are all so **ce to me + this grid was h***
no no... in california... but still eggciting :)
yaa for riverdance!
Ha River! I was like...there is no "ell" on the end of that word.
if u put headphones on...ear buds..u can hear the pipping of the baby inside the egg as she cracks the egg open
I saw a baby eagle while camping in Maine last summer - it was very cool - it was still all back and fuzzy but stood up straight and proud in the tree just above the nest
Now if you want to talk about what is from hell, ear buds are from hell. I still use headphones.
lol Molly
i use ear buds..sometimes sleep with them in
Crows nested out in back of my place one spring. I got to see the Mom drop them out of the nest. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
I dont like ear buds either
Esure makes the best ear buds on the planet
All of us who were brought up to "never stick anything in our ears" have an instant aversion to ear buds.
i saw some of these eggs laid...
actually crossy..the $ store ones are really quite good and as ai have a cat who likes to chew the wires....
though i do love the full size bose headphones
crossy - I like your new wolf
tyvm riverdance,i thought it was time to freshen things up
it suits you...

Ruby! Is! Not! Hopeless!
i'm having a hard time with 4 letter words on this grid!
hi ruby...<passing ruby a chocolate almond melty muffin >
Do they actually have almonds in them Carlee?
I just read back over the chog; you guys are very funny! I once watched a mother "red tail" throw her babies off our balcony, where she had a nest. I was right on the other side of the glass.
I want a muffin!
fe5/18 fe + yo* are my friend + ruby has just **rived
ground almonds....cocoa..buttermilk... and u 1/2 fill the cup...plop in a tsp of nutella..then top up with muffin dough...
what is nutella
Everything but the Nutella sounds divine.
it's what Fr people put on their children's breakfast toast!
hutella is a nasty toast spread made from hazelnuts
It's people!!!! Nutella is people!!!!
'Let's give them a sugar rush and send them off to school! hahahah"
i would rather spread aussie marmite on my toast lool
vegimite*
that's the best line is Soylent Green
well hazelnuts and chocolate may go together
Oh gross. You can keep the Nutella and all the icky "mite" yeast spreads.
ty for the f word, dancer
yw
its quite yum actually....
did you see the controversy about speculoos spread?
never heard of that either
the cookies taste like caramelized sugar plus cinamon and they are evidently making a spread like peanut butter out of it

That's pretty gross Ruby. Cookie spread?

q'uran is how it is actually spelled :)
as I love those cookies, the spread doesn't sound bad, but what do you put it on, another cookie?
aaaah, smart carlee!!!
( baked apples ruby )
maybe a cookie sandwich?
OMG, that is a great idea!
make a caramel apple pie
with sweet cream on top
could use a a hot cereal topping...or ice cream topping
I should get back to work - happy babbling everyone
when I don't have time to make something for myself, I eat Special K with sweet cream and sugar. How bad is that?
{{dancer}}

clues for ae7?
thanks lynxxx
a person who lives in ae4.4
thanks!
ae 7 - ae 4 + ending, living in the ae 7 period of time
hey all -- eating lunch, it was hailing here a moment ago...
hi Stid
how are you doing lynxxx? bored with retirement yet?
Doing very well, been mildly bored 3 times in 3 years. Only thing I miss is the money coming in each week!
I think I could trade money for bored... if the rest of the time was nice! LOL
Bye everyone. Enjoy lunch Stid
later lynxxx! have a lovely rest of the week1
27, but I had to leave the office- bloww off 2 clients- because I have chills and aches and heartburn and nausea. Haven't eaten since this AM.
Wed and thurs are my heaviest workdays, so once again, my income takes a hit. Good night.
I wish I'd throw up and get it over with. Sorry for the gory details.
oh oh kaplan... *ginger ale and weak tea* I hope you feel better soon.
it's okay, I know how it feels.
Bleaaah.
*wraps kaplan in blankies and adds a hot water bottle*
*Blesses Kap with a wee bit of Celtic Holy Water*
hello everybody
not sure weeing on kaplan will help molly... *wicked mama grin*
hey jac!
sorry you feel poopy kaplan, have a wee toddy with plenty of honey
I am going to bed to rererererereeread Salinger.
*Puts back the box of choclits I was going to give Stid*
*sobs*
Hey Jac
LOL kaplan. sounds like a good plan.
heya molly and mama
I just found the 8!
can i share my good news?
yes! please!
are we rich???
Bring it on Jac
what's the goo news before I go upstairs and expire
i got my biopsy results today and it's benign!!! my third core biopsy since december 30th, all benign
HOORAY!!!!!
YES!!! *bounce bounce bounce* *falls out of chair*
YAY!
i am so glad and so relieved and still covered in bruises and scars
that is WONDERFUL news, jac! *picks self off floor and opens champagne bottle*
What a blessed relief for you Jac, so glad to hear it.
btw, that's the good stuff, with a cork, not a screw-top! (only the best for jacq)
*Considers bartering choclits for champagne*
was so relieved i painted the kitchen, was like getting a very special gift
ty ty ty
shares champers with everyone
*pours champagne liberally*
i still have another bips
A special gift indeed. Good for you Jac. Good for you.
I think choclits go well with champagne
i still have another to get on a new mass they found today but it looks like the others so am not worried
another? when? *gets out calendar*
*Clinks glasses all around...I'll drink Kap's because she's not feeling well*
oh gee. lumps and bumps. *waves magic wand and they all dissolve*
but i think recent changes have meant they will bring forward my mastectomies and i will be better by summer
are you getting a new look then, jac?
he says they will look just like they do now but they can get rid of all the scars
oh! that will be nice!
and i will only have about 5% of my breast tissue left so a lot less to worry about
I love good news!
yes, less worry sounds excellent.
Jac, my Mom lived many healthy years after her mastectomies. I know you will too.
same here, it makes everything seem brighter, no matter who's news or how major or minor it's like a ray of sunshine
well, I am down to 15 and need to see what the workload is going to be over the next few days. back in a bit. *mini-poof*
i have a rough idea of what to expect my mums best friend has just had a mastectomy so she's been very honest with me about it all
That's good that you have someone who can help you prepare.
yes and i also have been loaned a freezer to help me precook lol
anguses idea of cooking is to open a tin of soup lol
Noswaith dda - good evening. Um, I had a mastectomy 5 and a half years ago. It was healed up remarkably quickly.
Well then, you're all set. And you don't have to survive on soup after your surgery.
thats good Glantarell
I was driving aboutn10 days later.
i have been told the healing process can take a long time for some people
wow, thats really good
Make sure you ask them about wound management - they didn't tell me I needed to massage the skin to stop the layers adhering to each other under the skin.
my mums friend waited 6 months for her op, then they took her back to take out her lymph nodes, i have no idea why they didn't do them at the same time
i was told about that with my latest lumpectomy because it was deep, i have a hole under the skin that goes right to my ribs
Will they be taking lymph nodes? That's the only problem I still have - the nerves in my arm were damaged as part of that and I still have areas with no feeling and areas which are very sensitive.
they are taking all my lymph nodes because i have multiple adenomas in there too
My lumpectomy was also down to the ribs - and very high on the breast - it didn't show on mamogram or ultrasound but was 5 cm by 3 cm when they removed it.
wow how did it hide?
ask the surgeon what position your arms will be in during the surgery - I have heard that soem surgeons put them up over your head while others keep them as close to a natural position as they can and you heal much faster and have better mobility of your arms after the op if they can do that
i will write that one down right now, i have loads of questions too
I have no idea how it hid - I used to check byself regularly but didn't expect it to be high at the top front near the centre of my chest - i'd always imagined a lump wiuld be towards my arm or on the lower half - Lord knows why
mak sure you have exercises to leave hospital with - and do them religiously morning and evening for a few months - I have complete movement in my shoulder and arm but know people who didn;t bother with the exercises who don;t have very good movement
probably because thats the deepest tissue and things are easier to hide so it's the area everybody focuses on, it was the doc who found my last 2 because they were buried under fibrocystic tissue
i will do everything i am told we are going to skye on the bikes in the summer will need to be fit
if it's all benign you won't need chemo or radiotherapy?
no thankfully, but he said they will send tissue to the lab during the procedure
okay, I was right. There is a LOT to do... *sigh*
hi stidmama
i have loads of masses, they all look similar
poor mama ((((((())))))))
i wish they would remove my other one but they won't
you need more hours in your day mama
somehow, jacq, my workload seems a lot less to whine about today ((hugs))
i won't have reconstructive surgery because i think the recovery and risks are unacceptable and i hate wearing a prosthetic
i know here they offer to work on the other to make them the same, but.... push and push and eventually they will agree
I do need more hours, though -- since I can't cut sleep (I really don't function at all on too little sleep) I think I shall have to cut bathing... *wicked middle-school mama look*
my mums other friend says her prosthetic is really heavy, more so than her own breast was
oh if i had reconstructive surgery they would make the other the same a few months later but i don;t want that either LOL
ewwwwwwwwww no mama, keep bathing
please
the prosthetic is heavy and hot
ahhhh have you asked them why they won't do it?
I would like to have mine removed... I have a lot of lumps and bumps and our family has various cancers. That would be one last thing to worry about.
and it's hard to find clothes which have flattering necklines and don;t expose the fake boob!
they just say they are not in the business of prophylactic surgery
yes she says the same thing and she finds it hard to get nice bras too
I like turtlenecks myself... *models the brown mock t-neck of the day*
I hate getting mammograms every 6 months.
i have one turtleneck stidmama but they are hard to find as the current fashion here is for pretty low cut tops
mine is prophylactic, i asked for mine about 5 - 6 years ago, my own surgeon doesn't do it but he referred me to another who does and said he will (eventually\0
i only have to have a mammogram once a year!
when I grow up, I will have prosthetic inflatable mammaries -- just an air pump to make them the right size for the tasks of a day.
i have them once a year too
lol mama
ROFLMAO
I buy turtlenecks "in bulk" when they are on sale -- I have at least 8 white turtlenecks and several with stripes or colors.
my boob is too big - i always wanted small ones LOL
mine are a little like that, this week so far i have been a c cup and a d cup, not sure if they will continue to swell or if they will empty again
I am so heavy up top that most shirts with buttons gap strangely and the ones that don't gap are so expensive they really aren't practical for daily use
*idea* Glantarell! They could move half of the one over so you would have two that are "just right"
i was just thinking that mama
so do you have those inflatable things which are stretching your skin ready for mastectomies and reconstruction at the same i=time Jacq?
jac, that sounds uncomfortable ... mine swell and such with the hormones (and the phase of the moon and the barometric pressure it seems). I hate it when they are large
they didn't even offer me reconstrucive surgery until 2 years after my mastectomy - i think they didn;t rate my chances very highly
no it's subdermal, all the skin on top will be my own breast skin, and hopefully my nipples won't drop off afterwards
i don't get hormonal changes i had a hysterectomy at 26
wow - i only have one nipple
well Glantarell, they don't know us very well, do they? It's not reasonable to hold off on the rest of your life while you wait to see if you will die...
my mom had one at 30 years old.
hey cos
i have just come off 5 years iof tablets designed to stop my body producing hormones
sory to jump in the girl talk :)
did they work, Glantarell? I should be done with hormones in a couple more years, I hope... I am clearly at "that point" in my life.
you're welcome to the conversation cos
how were they glan? i had male hormones for a while but they almost killed me
no issue cos, join in anytime
oh boy the pills worked very well but i didn;t care for the effects LOl
sometimes the cure is an awful thing
i gained 2 lbs a month for about 2 years - now 3 dress sizes bigger than i was 5 years ago
cos, men get breast cancer too -- my father's best friend from childhood died of it. *sad mama look*
cancer sux
other areas of my body thinned and dried and that appears to have started reversing over the last 6 weeks, and i am beginning to feel a little less uncomfortable
ah thats true i forgot about that..
my daughter was on hgh steroid doses for about a year and a half she went from a very skinny 12 yr old to an obese 14 yr old
yes it does mama
yes it does mama
and my feet used to really hurt and that has stopped too
thats good then, and the weight will come off too
and the weight has started leaving but not as quickly as it arrived!
it took karen about 6 months to come back to a normal body weight, and her aggression died down too
well it sounds like you are getting back to normal glantarell -- that's good. I wouldn't care about a few more pounds I think if I felt okay otherwise
but it permenantly stunted her growth
wow. prayers for you both! you have been thru or preparing to go thru a lot! bless you .
I found another word, now down to 14.
a few more pounds is not too bad stid - but 45 more pounds is a bit excessive LOL
hello GE
Hi GE
oh gee jac -- growth and hormones are so closely linked. Our family has dealt with growth issues with one of the boys -- it's hard to know what to do sometimes...
rofl glantarell! sounds like my freshman year in college...
Could I get a clue, please, for the ar 7/32?
hey good!
hey buff -- ar + ** apple (one) + the pers*** meteor shower

found it - thanks stid

ok, trying monkeying but it's too late for my brain
I don't have the ar7 either, still 44 left for me
it is a spidery type word. I found it.
y red, i guess i got it vis esp
ar plus a vowel, and then a misspelling for a thing that you must have, not a want but a ne**, that remember is mispelled...
ty. via. sheesh.
wow, red, somehow that was the clue I needed! thx!
how are you TO?
(the spidery one, that is)
nice one uusue...
ok, red,and you? what's going on on the housing front?
sue, i think red is sending very strong vibes out- i got it right off!
still waiting on the sellers bank to approve it. I have given up any hope of becoming a homeowner again. Everything is a hsort sale these days...
But...on the bright side, I am saving quite a tidy down payment.
what does that mea.. short sell?
well, odd they could accept an offer ithout that clearance. good luck!
the seller is selling the house for less than they owe, so the bank with the mortgage has to approve.
The seller can accept but the bank is essentially the seller anyway...
so the bank has to agree to takig a loss?
There will always be another place.
Yes, but essentially the seller has already had to send in a ton of finncial hardship documents and will likely go into foreclosure, which is expensive for the bank...
kje i am atching a cooking show where the host is making a grilled fruit salad with basil syrup. what do you think?
ty, just got it, fireworks for me, and my bed calling
i think that souds delish!

i am trying it. i bought a loupe but it went from hard to dimply overnight
ooh kje the fruit looks scrumptious
i was FEEMING for a young coconut last night. found myself at whole foods, but the only one they had, the wrapper was torn + it was all dried out. ::le sigh::

ar + ** apple (one) + the pers*** meteor shower
it was nice here today, too, stid, and they are talking about record warmth for tomorrow (mind you, record warmth means 58F, but still - maybe the rest of the snow will melt!)
warm sounds nice, given what you have been dealing with! they are talking about possible accumulations of snow here. Unusual for this time of year.
got it, thank you
*frustrated mama look* ABC is reporting that people are getting "fatter" and that it correlates to people who have less healthcare... but they are NOT making the link to poverty levels -- the counties with the highest obesity, least health care coverage also are mapping to the poorest incomes in the country. *stomps foots*
*gasp* I just saw the indian bread fish. *sigh*
good evening/morning ladies and gents, long time no see.
hey there shooless!
hi stidmama
Heyas kids ..

I was very pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it is to probate a will - most people think it's some dreadful process... our Surrogate Court was very helpful
replace the vowel at the end of the first ko5 with a consonant, boo
just like first boo, change last letter for consonant
what county in NJ, TO?

I've been monkeying the third na 4/5 for what seems like hours. Can't find it. Any clue?
There is only one na4/5 and it is an expensive oil or perfume.
The third na4 is a grandmother
Oh dear, it must be a 4/4 then because I have that one.
Isn't the grandmother the second na 4/4
ick ick ick
Yes, it is the second na4/4 but the third na4.
my ex bil and his third ex-wife just left
the third na4/4 is like a poor lost child.
Sorry, that is the na4,7
the third na4/4 is n followed by vowels.
clue for pe 6
I have 7, 4, 4, 5, and 8 so it must be the first 4 I'm missing.
hi everyone
1st na 4 - Indian bread

jmc, as opposed to a fake bimbo???
ty molly and crystalle
you miss what i said when i was waiting for him to arrive
lol, lil!
hello molly
With 3 ex wives, who is the bimbo?
a bigger bimbo?
my sister was the second one
i was at a party when a woman introduced herself saying she had had an affair with him but he left her to go back to his wife
and he likes you so much that he has to introduce you to all her successors, or what?
and i said "no he left you to go back to his mistress"
crossy does not like fake bimbos
too many preservatives....
lol
jmc, did u hold up a crucifix at her?
if sister wass wife number 2 why do u have to still see him
after several years he asked if i would do his tax returns
good id** lil I may have to do that
lol crossy
I think crucifixes work on werewolves and bimbos, right?
I would charge him a lot of money to do his taxes, jmc
okay i will tell myself this was an exercise in graciousness in that i did not throw up while she was here
just use big words. She will get so confused she wont want to see u anymore
I prolly would've farted in her face
he is still the father of my beloved niece and nephew
lil*monkey is not so gracious
my da said once there are 3 things a man can do in life with a relationship..marry a fine woman who will put up with you, rent a high class call girl once a month,or find a woman who hates your guts and buy her a house every 5 years...it all comes to the same cost:))))))))
ah well, so there's a permanent connection, then...tough when kids are involved...
he married a fine woman and slept around on her
BUT maybe u should feel compassion towards her. He doesnt sound like much of a catch.
and i like his dad
she is the one that was sleeping with him when he was married to my sister
sorry but i do not think someone who sleeps with married men is a good person
I cannot believe he brought that wench to your house jmc
cross you legs until the divorce
no, and the married man isn't a good person either
you need to have a cleansing ceremony in your house now
can someone clue the last pe 6 please
their taxes are intermingled
hoist on your on pe6 boo
*looks for the sage to burn*
I do noMay
I don't know what you mean jmc
i agree uu i really think he is an amazing jerk
me neiver
pe+rude name for mentally challenged
i love my relationship now..for the first 15 years i was the one being the old hound dogs always wanting,,,now we are leter in life and the mrs is in her "peak phase" it is old crossy who withholds or bestows...mwahahahaha
damn typos
maybe she did not know he was married at first. As the married man he should be held more responsible. The Bimbo couldn't have broken up a marriage if the hubby did not co operate
ty got it
that's ok, crossy, hard to type when you are excited :-)
anyways,i should concentrate on this grid i think...
i am not giving him a pass crystalle but she would have had to been amazingly blind not to notice the wedding ring embedded in his hand
Fireworks.
lil*monkey is off to beddy bye now
whoo hooo wht!
night, lil!
before i get myself in trouble
night monkey!!
gn lilM
and yay, wht!
bye lil
congrats wht!!
Night crossy, but why should tonight be different from any other night?
does the ae7 follow from the ae4?
lol wht
yes it does, jmc
Yes it does jmc
hmmm
lol,i am still here, just looking at the grid a bit wht\
just minding my p,s and q,s as they say:)
got it
No q's in the grid tonight crossy. How much bacon vodka have you had?
I don't agree with women sleeping with married men but I am just going to say, men can be dogs and u should here the excuses they make up for wearing rings. P.s. Not saying any man in here is dog or even men in general just some.
wht you are in rare form tonight
well i think my exbil is a dog
night all
sounds like, jmc
'night, TO!
bye TO
I was at a screening of Jeopardy tonight at work. Can you guess what high tech company I work for?
Night TO.
oh i did not know that
then you can tell me if Watson was programmed to include the amount of time it takes a human to hit a buzzer
no cos we do not have jeopardy
I guessed, wht (assuming it's the obvious one)
an IBM computer played jeopardy against the two best players
isn't that a little unfair
And the computer won convincingly.
i would expect it would
i need to know more about the buzzer thing
or i would have lost faith in computers
it was not a run away the second night
i think ken jennings could take watson if they played again
i have forsaken television because of the crappy programming with the exception of the good programs on discovery and history channel and the amc movie channel
hi again - jmc - there's a lot of info on IBM sites - blogs and reports and such - as technical as you can take it - just Google Watson
i will have to look later
i am exhausted from being polite
my sister works at the Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights - I've been reading all I can about it
Before the show they had people talking about what they did. They added a check for puns, for instance. Or actually probably just a check for words in quotes.
someone commented to me that there seemed to be fewer word plays than normal
mind you I expect watson to win, but i was juts wondering
and i thought ken jennings did pretty well
ar 7,32?
Even with the computing power they had and the terabytes of data storage,it is still amazing to me that they could figure out the question and come up with the answer so well.
think spider sunny
no some of the things watson came up with were definately amazing
then other times--like coming up with toronto as a city in the catergory U.S. Cities was wierd
It got a number of questions wrong tonight. It was interesting to see if you could figure out where Watson got confused.
They explained that because it tends to discount the catagory because so often the answer has nothing to do with the category.
ok, i really have to start packing - I am SO not ready to leave tomorrow...
huh i have not found that to be the case
where are you going uu?
although the category is frequently a play on words
hey again... this time I mean to finish! *determined mama look*
They gave an example like a question under American cities - A game people play in St Petersburg. And the answer would be what is shuffleboard.
*hangs on to sue's knees so she can't go*
Watson said "chemise" instead of "shift" and the category was "Computer Keys" -
i noticed that
although i thought ken jennings answer of A was odd
I thought it ironic that Watson had so much trouble with that category.
listing...
ok so don't any of u think it is kinda freaky at all
i also noticed that alec trebeck would sometimes finish watson's answer for him
New Jersey to take care of my dad, will be there until March 5 (don't worry, SO and son will be home taking care of the cats and dog)
ken jennings was probably thinking of a a-line skirt.
and I noticed Watson said "eavesdropper" instead of "eavesdropping" which should have been eliminated as the wrong part of speech
i understood that but it actually made no sense! lol
oh good -- and who will take care of your students? how will they unlock the secrets of the universe without you?
i agree jbv other players would have been ruled against in double jeopardy for that
or -- *horrified look* -- are you one of those "modern" teachers who can skype into the classroom???
I also notice that Alex reads things that are not in the visual clue - and I think that's unfair to Watson, for example he said "also known as" but the clue only had AKA
lol, stid - I have 3 different faculty who will teach my courses in my absence - no skyping there...
It was fun getting to see what Watson was thinking even when he didn't buzz in.
are you going to be able to babble from there uu?
:-D oh good. I hate to think of those poor, lost undergrads...
yes i did like that part wht
but AKA is abbreviation for "also known as"
yes, I agree wht - in the question about plattedeutsch Watson came up with Italian !! as one of the possible ansewrs
Too bad they can't do that for the human players.
yes, babbling is on - my department has given me a usb modem for my laptop (I am also assistant department chair and do most of the undergrad advising for our majors)
takes longer to hear also known as than to read aka
yes, stid, but I'm sayign that the computer does not hear that, only "sees" the letters AKA, while the humans get the translation
that's true jmc
whooo hooo uu! i was worried for a minute
and JBV
where in NJ uusue?
well i assume the computer has in its data bank that aka means alias
Millington, JBV
heigh ho
I have no idea where that is :)
hey doren! ((hugs))
I'm in Middlesex County
near Rutgers
hi doren!
hi dorens
so not one person in here ( other than me) thinks a computer playing jeopardy , one that obviously has some kind of intelligence cos it had to "think" is kinda freaky.
north central NJ, near Morristown - and I was born in New Brunswick, JBV!
hi, dorens!
oh, cool - I was in New Brunswick last night - a play at the George St. Playhouse
no i don't crystalle it is just a game of logic like a computer game
LOL crystalle -- what is interesting is that the computer holds so very much data!
let's hear it for NJ!!! rah rah rah!
crystalle, it's still human intelligence that programmed the computer
Considering how few things a computer can actually do. It can add and perform some logical operations on binary data and make some comparisons and that is about it. Given that, the ability to parse an ambiguous sentance and find any kind of answer is pretty amazing.
less creepy than people in NM flying drones in Pakistan bombing other people
let's not get carried away, doren - we still have that governor we're not shaking any pompoms at, remember?
don't know it, JBV, we moved to Plainfield when i was 9 months old (then to Bernardsville but I really haven't lived in NJ since I graduated from high school in 1968...)
wht thinking about this made me think of that game dcseian got us hooked on for a while with all the interlinked words
okay. down to 6...
oh he's going to the white house soon j.. then everyone else will know what we've been dealing with
ugh
five!
what game is that jmc?
go stid!
four...
*fe** strikes the heart of jmcnrick* who's going to the white house
go stid! (more interesting than contemplating christie's meteric rise)
oh I remember I got hooked on it for a while, then had to stop
I can't believe some of these... *sigh*
I remember that. I was able to resisit it pretty well.
Go stid.
watson playing jeopardy jbv
Hi stidmama. Here we are together again.
but it was that logic that i think is some of what is going on with watson
no I mean what was the name of that game with the words?
I think computers are great and all but I have watched the movies. I know what robots and computers are gonna do to us!
hello Mother! how is B.C.?
Anyway. I need to be off to bed. I need to be fresh tomorrow so watson doesn't take my job.
in linguistics, it's called schemata - word associations - that's just one small part of what Watson "knows"
so you would have really been creeped out bye what ken jennings wrote crystalle
how weird is it that gmere has to call stid stidMAMA
(only joking) but seriously u never know.
lol dorens!
We enjoyed the tea and cake this afternoon near the marina.
two....
ooh what did he write
schemata
LOL well I was a stid first....
go stiddie go
bye, wht!
Only one more?
that sounds lovely -- was it very blustery? It has been so peculiar here -- and now the very full moon is glowing and lighting up the lawn
later wht!
he gave the correct answer and then wrote in parans (I for one welcome our new computer overlords)
bye wht be brave!
It was quite blustery and cold around 12-2.
one.
go stid go
oh that last one was hardly worthy of the last place!
but nicer now, I hope?
whoo hoo stiddie
yay stid!
Congrats to you my dear!
hooray, stid!
There was a HUGE pile-up on I-5 at the beginning of the commute -- the sun came out after a hailstorm and about 20 cars and trucks piled up. No fatalities, but some went to the hospital
is there a stiddad and a stidpop
oh, dear, stid!
i think i once saw a stid that wasnt mama or gmere
Nothing like sunshine to cause a pile up on the interstate.
no, stidhat is my tom... but he's the only other official stid (altho scrabbler is also a stid)
wait... there are stidkids, right?
scrabbler is related to u?
yes, there are - and they have babble logins, but don't play
to my tom, yes
it has been a while since i've seen them here, now that i think of it
There are stids all over the place! Hi all, including the Stid family.
hi jac
it's funny -- she "found" us through babble. A lovely story... thanks to my login name we are back in touch after a few decades incommunicado
hey Jacula!
hi, jac!
hi jac.. rarely see you here, but seeing you reminds me that i need to thank you heartily for listing when lickety isn't around. thanks
great story, stid!
u guys are just one big babbling family lol. U know what they say though, the familky that babbles together stays together
good night folks, nice babbling with you - going to read for a while, see you tomorrow
*lurk*
yep. we are good at babbling -- with or without the grid! (jmc can attest to that!)
night joanne
sweet dreams JBV. I miss seeing you (((Hugs and choclits)))
:-)
hi feather
FEATHER!!!! (((((hugs )))))
'night, jbv!
Dorens - glad to know it's appreciated. Do you look on my profile for it or in BabAnon. I put it in both but don't always say on chog that I have.
Hi feather! x
brb phone
:) hi.
profile... it's easier for me... just can always find you on my frineds
Dorens - I got our game on FB going, btw. Won't be back to play more for about 12 hours or so now.
yup i saw it and played .. three ways can sometimes take a long time.. we'll see
and hi feather
Re BabAnon - I may have forgotten to change to EZ board or something, but I always have to type Babblers Anonymous into search to find it now after going to the original bookmark.
Dorens - I play WordTornado on FB and hate playing it with mroe than 2 players.
*more, I meant.
just sitting and enjoying the chog, not much to add other than hi
an5 please?
jmc - a + 'not far away'.
you could clue, you could! *pokes feather*
a + n4 word meaning close, jmc
i am holding my hands over my ears... i don't want to learn of any more word games... i have no time anymore for anything else and my life is out of control
ty jac
Sorry Dorens!
ty uu
y/w jmc.
can't clue, didn't grid today
oh well then -- hi feather!
Well, feather, that's a good excuse then, isn't it? LOL
Feather could teach us all a thing or two about self-control. Perhaps.
;-)
going to start packing (for real this time) - bbl
feather has plenty in her life... it is ok to not grid sometimes... i don't know how you do it, really feather
self control???
sue i have the same problem.. i have busy day tomorrow, and am leaving at 4;30 friday morning... should be packing now
lol, i have many other addictions that tear me away.
fe5/16 please
Somedays hi is enough. I have some sort of circadian rhythm of chogging.
was just now doing games on quote-puzzler, have scrabble turns to take, and was thinking of seeing if anyone wanted to do letterblox
Feathr - young children must be one. There's no time for yuorself when the kids are little.
fe + the the *nited st*tes of ame*ica
my time is after 8pm, when they're in bed. and then most of the time, it's too late to start the grid! i grid more in summer, when i'm home.
fe5/16 is what describes the lines on lined paper.
well no wonder i didn't see that! ty dorens
stidgemere - I know that feeling!
19 left
me too jmc
pe 6,24?
Sometimes, I arrive in the chog and I've just got too much to do to join in. At other times, I might have to sit on my hands not to be snappy/snipey.
hoisted on your own pe6/24
hoist by your own pe****
sunny - if might be hoist on your own pe6/24, if you get too cocky.
we are consistent
Hi Jacula. I'm not beating any records on the grid today or on the chog.
a pe6 is a spigot mortar, British explosive device used to blow in doors etc. in WWII.
lol
I have to go out on a secret shopping expedition this weekend. Why? 'Cos I've pinched two bottles of red wine out of my son's case of wine his Dad (my ex) gave him for Christmas. Need to replace them before he notices.
yikes jac!
Thankyou jac , I wasnt getting the hoist by your own clues but ur mortar clue did it
I only nicked the cheap screw top ones. Easily replaceable.
crystalle - y/w.
oh well then
jmc - I didn't pinch them both on the same day. LOL
omg I am starting to use that dreaded shortened language i hate. I typed ur ick
lol wondered if you got sloshed with two bottles of cheap wine
there there crystalle
crystalle - u mean u did txt spk? Liek cul8r etc?
omg!
po7?
yes i hate text speak. I can not read it lol. My sister sends me these god awful texts that i spend ages deciphering
The first time my (12 years' younger) Other Half sent me a text, after he'd taught me how to text and read the damned things, I had no id4 what cul*tr meant, and so phoned him to find out.
lol jac
the sad thing is that some of our students haven't figured out the difference, and actually use that text speech in their school assignments.
I actually do not get told off by my kids for sending texts that are properly spelled and punctuated. The call me the walking dictionary and wouldn't dare!
that is sad dorens
it is sad dorens.
Dorens, I know. I've seen it in the stuff my stepdaughter writes. She seems to mix over-stating things and text speak in the same piece of writing.
po7??
like the po6 with an extra vowel, jmc
think little horse mixed with some who lives in spain
(I hate packing)
ty crystalle
The English language, in all its forms across the world, but, of course, the one we speak here in England is RIGHT (:-)), is such a great language because it always grows, changes and moves with the times. However, there are limits! Babble's present Enable dictionary certainly proves that.
enable def has limits
actually my clue wasn't very good, there's more difference between the po7 and the po6 than that. I will go back to packing :-(
limits is a gracious word jmc...
i have packing down to a fine art uu i do it so much
when i went to kenya for a month i packed less than the women i went with who were there for a week
I used to, jmc, but not any more...
i was echoing jacs words dorens
i am usually good too j.. for short term trips... but this time i'm going to fl so need to find some appropriate clothes
np uu i got the word anyway
Thinking of yesterday's grid - has anyone here, other than a small child, ever said the word 'teentsier'?
layers dorens
teensier itself was a stretch, but teenTsier?
i have said it but would spell it tintsier
yup jmc, but need to go dig up some warm weather pants.. sandals etc

sandals? i'm in socks, warm boots, fuzzy slippers these days
just looking at the weather forecast for NJ for the next week, guess I will have to pack all my clothes
it was over 50 today that is sandal weather
My son, when a toddler, used to call radiators (UK room heaters) 'radigators', and he called the meal Chilli Con Carne, 'Chilly Gone Barmy'. My daughter, as a toddler, when she wanted things quiet, would say, 'SHUP NOISE!' (Shut up the noise.) I wouldn't expect to find any of those toddler words accepted by a so-called dictionary.
layers uu
indeed sue. we have been rollercoasting here lately
ti7?
chilly gone barmy is sooo cute.
course that's one of my four j!!
it is cute jac
my son used to call them cementment mixers
i loved it

new baby2bit photo in my profile - her first playground visit :-)
my kids have all called umbrellas rainbrellas we all call them rainbrellas now but that isnt as cute as your kids jac
My son, in his teens, misheard my Mum and me talking about my Dad's illness (Altzheimer's Disease). He thought it was 'Old Timer's Disease. That sounds so much kinder.
LOL jac I actually thought it was Old Timers disease lol
and veronicas veins instead of varicose
very cute dan
My stepdaughter, when about 12, went over to the local shop for me and asked for 'semi-skilled' milk. (Semi-skimmed.)
not now I thought it was old timer when i was in my teens
The National Air & Space museum opened downtown for th e bicentennial when I was 6 - for a very long time I thought it was named for a person - Aaron Space Museum
Lol re the veins!

my grandma once told me that the queen (of england) liked to chop off peoples heads and that is why english people are well mannered. While we where in england I was the most well mannered child ever
lol crystalle!
boy was that mean!
any clues needed?
fi5/18?
a wicked person
My stepdaughter's latest funny thing happened about 3 weeks ago. Her Dad had recorded a programme on the SKY HD box which was entitled, 'Oral Sex - Is It Dangerous?' It discussed an illness that can be got that she and all her contemporaries at school had been inoculated against a year or so before. HPV. She saw the programme title as her Dad was scrolling throught the recorded list to see what we could all watch together. 'What's that?' she asked. 'Something I think you should watch,' he said. 'It explains about the jab you had last year'. She looked at the screen, breathed in sharply and said, 'OH NO, I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER BE DOING THAT! I've heard it's very painful!' I took a moment out and then said, 'It says oral nor anal.' She almost died with embarrassment after that.
ty dorens
[blush]
lol crystalle,i was born in the U.K,and i did not need the queen to keep me in line,if i did a bad thing,my dad would use the belt on me till i could no longer sitt for my supper
yay dorens!
sue go pack!
that is horrible cross!
crystalle - One fact about a queen of England. Queen Victoria was made to wear a sprig of holly beneath her collar to make her keep her chin up in regal fashion. (Erm, isn't that child abuse?)
I'm almost done, actually; am leaving the electronic stuff to do in the morning
fe5/16?
how old is the stepdaughter jac.
homonym of what delicate ladies do in horro, j
in horro???
f + 3 vowels + consonant, kmc
*jmc
a different time crystalle, and parenting was different
horror, terror, whatever... when they see a mouse
crystalle - she's 16.
ahh
still peacefully coexisting, jac?

I have in my most frustrated times threatened to smack the crap outta my kids but they laugh at me. They know I would never do it.

go dan go
hi jes
I wouldn't mind being 16 again though!
I'd hate to be 16 again, unless I could go back with hindsight.
po7?
po+el cid was a spa*****
actually scrap that my life is pretty darn good. With hindsight I would make better decisions but my life wouldnt be what it is now
po7 is a small dagger. Po + an anagram of the dr that takes water away.
god would i hate to be 16!!!
i would like to be 35 again
ty jmc & jac
2
jmc - 30 would be the age I'd want to go back to.
I would like to be the weight i was at 16.
I'd like to be the weight I was at either 16 or 26. LOL.
12 yrs and 3 kids later I am much heavier than i was then
at 30 i was married and had a young son and loved my job and was healthy and active
35 that is
If I could go back to 30, I'd have had both my kids, but perhaps wouldn't have put up with all the crap from their Dad.
i think if i knew then what i know now i would have been more aggressive about my husbands health and less likely to fight with him
but we can't go back in time so i will just have to avoid fighting with my boy
However, about a decade after I did lose patience with him, I met The One. I wasn't even looking for him, or anyone, and, contrary to all magazine articles, he did just turn up on my doorstep.
okai doke I am hitting the hay
I think i must be a lucky one. My kids dad is not only a great dad but a great partner. this is our 13th year together and we are still going strong
firewords - thanks again all cluers
glad you met the one jac
my hubby was a good partner too crystalle he just died
whoo hooo dan2!
'Nigh jmc. Sleep well.x
*poof*
13 years is not bad considering i am only 28
Well done, dan!
Oh I am so sorry jmc I had no idea.
crystalle - it's nice to hear a success story for a change. Me and my other half were together for 22 years.
The only really, really close person to me that I've had die yet is my Dad, and i don't think I will ever really get over misssing him.
*pops in* hi all :o)
hi, dfm!
My grandmothers father died in 1961 and yet she was just teling me the other day she still thinks of him often
hi jac, crys, jmc(and bye), uu, dan, crossy! :o)
hi dfm. Do u wanna finish this grid for me. I have only kinda been babbling .
My ex isn't a bad man, far from it. But in some ways he's weak. His family life didn't give him the best start, and though he can't stand her and tries not to be like her, he is very like his mother... lies for no obvious reason and cheats in love.
I'm not finished myself -- rushing assignments (one and a half more!) and sleeping early for my midterms tomorrow x.x
I have everything either grey or blank o.0
He's been a better father since the divorce than he ever was during marriage. However, my kids, now in their 20s, kinda see him for what he is and don't always agree with that now.
po 6,24?
well in that case i might get a move on maybe i can finish b4 u
(all of fourth row and O in fifth row are blank; all other tiles greyed.)
past tense of a small horse, sunny
Hi dfm.
ty got it
po 5,14?
Any more clues needed?
different consonant ending to the po5/12, sunny
po5/14 = po5/12 with a different last letter. Do the maths.
can I have second letter for N@(5,4) and O@(1,5)? Can't seem to fi4 them :o\ last two
ty
op
op4
ni4
the op4 I thought I had went to the other O >.>
There is no n5/4, and an o1/5 can't exist in this game.
dfm is giving coordinates, jac
i think they are coordinates jac
and the op4 you are looking for is more obvious than the one you found :-)
In other words being his usual hepful self
uusue - don't get those. He'll have to ask for grid words.
neither can exist, jac, the o1 would be -3 p5s ;o) I'm referring to N on column 5, row 4; O on column 1, row 5.
hi hoot! :o)
thanks crys, got the n4...
hi
Don't do co-ordinates.
and o.0 how did I miss that o4? >.< thanks crys, uu :o)
Hi Hoot.
(and that's NBT + fireworks :o) time to go back to homework...
na 4,7?
Bye dmf.
howdee y'alls
hi Jac - been a long while!
Hi Gwen.
3 words off this time lol
yay, dfm! go do your homework and I will keep grading tests...
hi, gwen!
hehe crys... shouldn't have given me stats yet, hmm? ;o)
hi sue, seems you have become addicted like the rest of us LOL
i am getting closer dfm. See you next time.
na4/7 is a very innocent person, sunny
lol dfm I was thinking that
na4/7 = na + the title of a Rudyardd Kipling poem.
and gwen, you are right, I am hooked on the puzzle and on the community
*rudyard.
I'll be lurky here... staring at a Babble screen or a rubik's cube helps me think, and I left my cubes behind on my last exam :o(
we are cool, yes (!!)
the game is great but I often come in after I am done just for the people and chat
tell me about it!
sometimes there is too much grammy award in the chat though LOL
me too, crystalle - I finished quite a while ago
crystalle - as do many of us. That means you are hooked.
Gwen - I know what you mean. LOL.
I still can't figure out how I survived my sesquiannual hiatus...
ok I need to go and be domestic. ( no offence but the grammy's were weird. What the hell was gaga and that egg thing about!)
everyone was chatting about this star or that but I had no idea who they were lol
crystal - I haven't watched the grammys since I watched the first one.
didn't watch the grammys...
i never watched the grammys either
me neither, but while they were on, some chatters were giving running commentary
<-- doesn't know what grammys is/are! >.>
dfm u survived it cause u use words like sesquiannual hiatus
dfm - film awards where luvvies are patting one and other on the back and making speeches thanking everyone who evr brushed past them in the street.
sesqui- is a totally awesome prefix :o3 (means one-and-a-half)
dfm - what is it that bugs you every 18 months or so?
ah, don't watch films... usually fail that category in trivia... (I also fail at sports.)
actually, grammies are awards for recordings: music, comedy, spoken word, etc
usually my computer(s) blow up, or otherwise die. (I'm being serious.)
Gwen - I said that, didn't I? It's all crap on TV though.
Oh it so annoys me when they say I owe this to all my fans I only do what I do for the fans. AS if the money has nothing to do with it lol
thought you said film . . .
there is one computer in month 20 -- I am afraid for it...
I hate any kind of award ceremony thse days.
yway i really am going to clean now so i can back for the flip
bye everyone
bye everyone
'Bye crystalle.
bye, crystalle!
bye crys!
i agree, these award shows are almost always beyond silly
If I was ever to be given an award, which I have been, I'd prefer is wasn't on camera.
wow. there are some really crazy myths about spiders out there...
fi 5,18?
true, jes - and this is apropos of....
speaking of non-sequiturs, what about spiders?
fi5, an eveil beast, an enemy
Hi Jes - Well my Mum and my daughter both hate spiders. I had to learn to deal with them, so not frightened at all, to be honest, and they still scream like hell when they see one.
bruce found a website from UW with spider myths
oh lord, again, the question must be asked. What's UW?
my son is like that, jac! once when he was away at college, he was convinced he'd been bitten by a spider, claimed he could see fang marks - turned out to be a mosquito bite he'd scratched
(and who is bruce?)
anyway, I am exhausted, grading and packing will continue tomorrow, as will babbling
goodnight, all!
night night sue |-(~
night uu!
uusue - my uncle once did that in Wales back in the 60s. He was sure he'd been bitten by an adder.
'Night sue.. Sleep well.
Gwen - no id4 was UW is. Sorry!
university of wisconsin? um . . .
Maybe, Gwen.
If no one needs any more clues, I might get off to bed now.
Under Wear Man? ummmm
only need 19 clues, night night jacula
I can clue
nite Jac
i haven't even opened the list yet (assuming there's a list)
ar7?
Heyas kids ..
hiya tor!
No id4 what you're talking about,Gwen, unless you been watching the first Justin Lee Collins programme in an new series on Channel 5 entitled, 'Turning Japanese' Not watched it myself yet, but my son has been watching it and kept pausing programme to ask what I tought about the latest thing he'd learned.
got the ar7 just now: ar + no ifs, **ds or buts + vowel + two plants spliced together is a hybr**
I think tyhat Channel 5, just like Channel 4, seeks out the most extreme of whatever to make documentatries.
turning japanese? you lost me comPLETE-ly
Thanks BDG
someone said they got something from UW, and i asked what UW was, and it turns out they did not even know (!)
yw tor
Gwen - it''s a channel 5 documentary about the Japanese way of life. No.1 appears to have dealt with sex life, or lack of.
One man has over 2,00 silicone, lifelike sex dolls in his home.
So my son tells me.
That, apparently is one and a quarter million pounmds sterling worth of fake women surrounding him.
My son told me that even the female (Japanese) translator, thought that was weird.
you're saying UW isa tv show? does it stand for something?
hey, if something can be superannuated, why not annuated? grrrrrrr
Gwen - I've no id4 what UW stands for, as I've said before.
I'm off to bed now. See you all next grid.xx
then what is all this about a tv show??? (completely confoozed)
night night jacula
UW (in this case) means University of Washington, in Seattle
Oh my, that was a long phone conversation... back now.
wb, stid :)
ah! (i'm taking half a po5 for my guess back there)
thanks for the po word, gwen :)
hey no prob7 lol
poit is a word! it's the sound teleportation makes :)

There is

it was warm here today, relatively speaking. i mean some of the huge piles of snow melted a little
yeah, a real variety pack... just wish it came with some choclit...
hee. i got a necklace in a tin of chocolates for valentine's day :)
okay, i'm down to begging for clues now. ti7?
or po7?
haven't got them, sorry
what i do have is no blank tiles and over half solved, so i'm gonna go shower and do other stuff useful to "real life"
:D
ti7 head piece past tense
thanks peabody!
egad that is one silly word! (ti7) TY peabody!!
yw
ooh, found the po7. UNO

YAY gwen!
gotta stuff my brains back into my ears now LOL
I need to go be productive on one of my projects for a while. Tomorrow is a paper-writing day. Think good things for me please? I am down to the last week for "deep" writing and the week after will be just for polishing
so... I am moderately panicked.
good luck and break a leg, stid!
**hugs and choclits for all** see you-all tomorrow as I need mind breaks! *poof*
Hello all -- fireworks
(didn't think anyone was here anyway)
So off I go to change icons
hi hi hi
hi cos
like my parrots? Did you check sprite's? Interesting writeup.
But nobody cares
what wrie up?
Next icon theme nobody will care about is Random Acts of Kindness Day
cos, those of us who follow icon themes try to provide a writeup about them. If you go to my profile you will see a link to sprite's, where she lists coming themes and provides a writeup about the current one.
hey jill -- wandering past to see the new grid
thanks.. ive been wondering where to find icon themes!
Hi stid :-)
I care about the icons, I just don't really have time to look for them. But I like the random acts of kindness piece.
flip yet??????????????
oh stid, I know you are REALLY short of time and am amazed you can still keep in touch
