Just missed you, scouser! Hi, all.
Hello Hydra. Very quiet here today!
It looks a tricky grid.
Its flowing well at the moment for me. (Surely the kiss of death, just saying that...)
I like the tips on your profile, Soodle!
:-)
Oops! Time for me to don my waterproofs and go to the chiropractor's. (Ouch) Back later.
Best of luck Hydra. Bye.
HI

Good morning Sally

Just put T on the train so happily sitting down to Babble. (Going to Billingshurst to visit his daughter FM, so wave if you see an elderly gent in a Rupert scarf!).
LOL - will keep an eye out :)
He'll be very surprised :-)
I can see the headlines now *Gent accosted by local accusing him of being Rupert*
You'll be safe, he can't run very fast - well, at all at the moment.
run, run? one does not run!
:-) Might make you glow, eh?
LOL yeah!
sniff
by darling b.f has banned me from watching the news
You have a cold, herin, or was that an expression of disgust?
*hands herin a tissue*
Why has he?
mi6?
FM, ever practical.
No that was a cat is on my head sniff
Because the news is too upsetting and he wants to protect me
Oh, sweet!
awe - I must say I limit the amount of news I watch during the day as it can just get too much.
Well Monday night I said to him that I felt something bad was going to happen and was rather upset.
mi6/21 = mi + cons + consume. (and pl it too)
Oh scary, herin. Mind you, something bad does happen every day somewhere in the world.
That's so weird...I was just looking at that wondering if it was a word...ty FMitch!
ty FM. I maintain there is no such thing as that word!
yw Champ!
Happy Wednesday, Babblers.. ty, FM, needed that one!
I may not have tried it...makes no sense to me etiher Sally!
HI Aloy.
yay all round, hope kje got it too.
Nice stopping point...just over halfway. BBL. Enjoy all!
Hello Aloy :)
Sally it was that feeling that something bad bad was going to happen. It was like the World was off kilter. Then there was that earthquack
hi herin , bye Champ, hello FM.. um, earthquack?

The news is saying there are still at least 300 missing.

{{hugs}} carlee
{{{{carlee}}}} :D
( I feel so strange coming in here and having GOOD news..no mopey carlee )
This Christchurch disaster is being so closely covered here, lots of mobile phone pictures on news. All very grim with not a 'lot' of people being saved, some buildings are unable to be searched as they are very unstable. We get used to "third world' disasters but is very disconcerting to see it all happening in a city much like our own. Just awful.
its awful lynxxx....heartbreaking... and to such a pretty city...
Lots on the news here as well lynxxx. Horrifying film, makes you really feel what it must be like.
( and its horrid what is happening in libya )
he is a nutter, I can't believe he still has supporters!
supporters out of fear or on the take
no reposts coming that italy is helping him

12 Apr :)
it is bitter cold here this morning, -8 F
ouch that is very cold.
sure is, glad I dont have to go anywhere today
oh that is nice, a good day to cuddle up and do only pleasant things :)
well at least some of the things are pleasant :)
need to clean the living room to get it ready for new furniture
I have to get some groceries today, which I truly hate. But for the rest: a bit of laundry, give a piano lesson to my daughter, and making dinner. That is all for today!
hmzzz ok that asks for very thorough cleaning. *hug* But you will love it when the new furniture is in place!
thats not bad at all Sprite. And I agree on the groceries, not a chore I enjoy
yes I will! I have been looking for just the right items for a few years now and finally found something I really like
oh that is so good. It really takes patience to find what you truly like. My love and I searched for years for good lighting for the living room. Were so happy when we found it at last!
Afternoon all.
hello Michnick
I enjoy grocery shopping but then again I am only buying for one and can eat what I want when I want. Afternoon all :)
michnik, is it Purin yet?
Purim
FM That would certainly make it easier
Hi FM :) *hugs* I hate the stores. Too many people. And I hate having to make choices. Don't have the brain for that.
hi Mich, hi bichon
((spritey sprite))
Hi all, It is a leap year Bichon, which means an extra month. Purim is in 3 1/2 wks. (And my daughter's wedding is 16 days after that!!!)
Sprite, I do nearly all my grocery shopping online now. Bliss.
Hi sprite Nono
I actually love grocery shopping. Does that mean the rest of my life us too dull???
2011 is a leap year in the Jewish calendar
I'd love that, Sally! Too expensive still here, alas, but I hope in time we can do the same.
or make a list and stick to it - less hastle but keep an eye out for bargains.
It can't be too crowded, but I love the feeling of being able to provide for my family.
I love gettine groceries esp the heavy items delivere via the internet.
Can anyone clue the single T in the left column so I can back to my dull life with NBT?
Do they charge a lot for delivery then sprite? Here it is free on certain days if you spend more than a certain amount. I wait till I have a lot of shopping, make a list, go online, select, and sit back and wait for a nice man to bring it to the door!
Who do you shop with Sally? Not come across free deliver.
lol Mich, I'd say it means you are a much more stable person than I. As for the T: Tu + form of to be.
TO those who order on-line, Sally, Can you also order produce that way? I have ordered on line but produce always disappoints.
Sally, the delivery is not free, and the groceries are a lot more expensive than in stores.
Thanks Sprite.
nbt. and now coffee.
no blank coffee here, Kaplan. And hello.
Off for a bit to get something done. I have nothing to wear to the wedding.. ACK!
BBL
FM, I used to shop online with Tesco (and I am only talking about groceries here) because it was the only one available, but now Sainsbury's deliver here, which I much prefer. They are ordinary supermarket prices and sometimes special offers.
hello goodbye
One of the benefits is that I don't have to traipse up and down the aisles looking for something. If, say, I want pasta, the whole range comes up wherever it is in store.
I am prepared to pay up to £5 delivery charge when I do an online shop. Interesting Sally - I am a Tescos user, very rarely use Sainsburys.
I would like to shop at other stores but they are far and few between round here.
Sainsbury's is free if you spend over £100 and have delivery Tuesday, Wed, Thurs. Orders over £40 have variable delivery charges, depending on when you have delivery.
wish groceries stores around here had delivery service
I find it quick, and I don't buy on impulse. We are also 5 miles from Tesco, and over 20 miles from nearest Sainsbury. However, cannot get Ocado to deliver here yet :-(
You have to factor in petrol prices these days as well.
Ahh for 1 person spending £100 is an awful lot of food etc - thought it might be something like that.
But if you wait, and buy wine ...
lol
Under £40 there is a £6 delivery charge, and over that it is probably £3.50 if you can be flexible about times.
am finding this a strange grid. First brick wall after only 40 words for me, and not much of a second wind.
You can probably find an offer giving you £10 off your first delivery. I have a leaflet here with a promotional code on which I can't use, but they would probably know you were in the wrong area :-)
I am loving this grid sprite. Just have 3 words to find now.
Some of the W words are odd though.
hello everyone
snew
sorry, sorry
Hi Annie - and change the vowel :-)
Hello Annie, and snew to you too. : D
In fact, change it twice!
Hi, sally and molly, lol

hi River
good morning everyone
pe 7/32 flowers
thanks river and hi

thanks, sally
I love pe7's so fragrant
My Mom always grew pe7
mi 6/21 and plural, not to consume properly
and they are so beautiful..one of my favorites
thanks for the P and W biggies
I never did understand why they get ants all over them though
(don't know if that's what it actually means, but that's what it sounds like)
good morning
I have a problem with mi6/21.
the ants eat the sweet stuff on the flower bulb so it will break it open
hi GE
mi plus what you pull up to a table
the ants eat the sticky stuff and allow the bloom to open
Morning GE
thanks FM
Thanks River! Now I know.
I deny there is such a word :-)
Molly: mi + things to sit on.
snap, river :-)
just ready to write that myself - hello Une
No Sprite. I have the word. I have a problem with it BEING a word.
lol, Molly. I agree.
Sprite! What a pretty icon.
Must be off now. See you all tomorrow.
ooohhhhh! I will accept the word but only in the meaning of food going down the windpipe.
bye Sally

hello jmc
morning jmc
hi jmc
hello jmc
morning, jmc
hey jmc - i downloaded the folding program at home...now my biggest challenge is turning it on every day
Riverdance, do you have a windows machine? If so, you can make it start up automatically.
I do have window 7
yes i have to remember to turn it on too
but it is worth it -- i just make part of my turn on the computer routine like opening firefox to babble
how do you make it start automatically sprite? inquiring minds want to know
I need to put a sticky note on the machine so I dont forget...once it becomes a habit I will be find
*fine
*looks for river*
she's found!
Be my little Babble friend and love me all the time. Morning JMC.
I just did it this weekend so there is not much there
lol wondered if someone would twig to that molly!
every little bit river
I noticed you were on top of the list jmc - good job
ah well it is on my computer at work which i leave on all the time so i can enter it from my other computers
not sure about Win7, for win xp you only need to add the program to the Startup Meny
Menu*
well that is halfway. i should prob go start my day. (Getting upgraded internet later! Maybe i'll be able to keep up with the chat.)
my little staffperson has to reboot it every morning (long story) so he is instructed to open folding at home too
whoo hoo good!
I will have to check....wish I could put it on my computer here at work but would probably get fired...not allowed to download anything
well there are some perks to being the boss
It goes like this: 1. Click Start>Programs, then right click on Startup folder and choose Open. 2. On the Startup window, go to File menu and choose New>Shortcut.
ok will try tonight - thanks sprite
3. Click 'browse' in the newly opened window and go to the .exe of the program you want to add (folding@home.exe).
Next time you start Windows, the program will start automatically.
coolio
oops i started folding three times trying to get that to work!
for Win7 see this link: http://www.nirmaltv.com/2009/10/ 27/how-to-add-programs-to-windows-7-st artup/

i think it would be misstate
OK. Have to get some work done now. I hope you all have a great day!
can't stay long - have to keep moving - living with another minor challenge here - NO HEAT!!! temperature in the house is 55 -
{{hugs to warm JVB}}
very rustic - but not a lot of fun
*JBV
yikes jbv.. stay warm
*blows warm air toward JBV*
bye car - have a good day
bye car.
sending ruby over, she's a big cuddler (not me) hahah
the utility guy came yesterday, found a faulty part, which had to be ordered, said the system was unsafe to operate without it.... so we're managing with the fireplace, one electric heater and lots of sweater and fuzzy slippers
I must go myself....see you all later

I used the oven in the kitchen in the cold mornings

fireworks
{{annie}}
was easy,i was able to suspend chunks of chocolate within the brownie by mixing gently with fork before baking
you smartie!! have 86 only
((annie,ruby))
anyone want a clue before I go to the carwash?
*delurking* I'm going to crossy's house for breakfast!
lol, nothing brings the laides out like death by chocolate or fudge brownies hehe
you know the way to a woman's heart!
*Makes fresh ground coffee to go with Cross's brownies*
buying for the ladies is easy, chocolate or anything that makes, retains or throws heat,or big expensive rocks;)
i have some costa rican coffee in the perkulator that my brother sent me,some kind of volcanic grown, single plantation free trade coffee
*Passes a warm fleece blanket to JMC*
I've heard of crazies but not sa6!
bye dear babblers
bye, Annie!
coffee sounds lovely too, crossy - I am coming over!
enjoy your brownies, crossy! I'm off to do some chores. Back for the other 52 later. *poof*
back, husband is being rude; he can have his martini alone!
you mix him a drink and he is being rude?? u would fall out of my chair in shock if my wife mixed me a drink lol
(she does not drink)
i
lol, crossy!
I brought my martini down to this game
Welcome to you and your martini, ruby! Sounds like you could use it!
martini and babble, how bad is that?
if my wife handed me a mixed drink,i would hire me a tester lol
hahah, crossy
ty sue!
sue, you are all over the place in this grid!!
you must be very well-connected.....
the way i make a martini is with a frosted martini glass, add some very expensive vodka that has been in the freezer all afternoon, take a sterling silver cocltail sword and spear a small pickled onion and a single olive and gently float it on the iced vodka so as not to bruise the alcohol, then finally you lean over the glass ans whisper "Antonio Benedetto Carpano" and serve
I put a tiny drop of Noilly Prat extra dry vermouth and a shot of bombay gine, 2 fat olives in the glass, shake and pour
indeed, ruby, although my full first name is actually Suzanne (which is not in the grid)
crossy, I am going to come and live with you - you sound like a wonderful cook! :-)
you must be important, sue!
does elegant feel threatened by all of us babble-floozies, crossy?
(I don't actually like martinis, being more of a beer and wine person, but you make it sound wonderful!)
fireworks
my mrs does not see so well ,so i do the lions share of the cooking uu:)
yay, river!
wish I could have a martini but need to keep my job until kids get out of college
doing a little happy dance for river!
hahah
some strange words in this grid
You are a gem :-) (although my SO does all the cooking at our house so I really have nothing to complain about)
oh, as opposed to the usual grid, river? (tee hee)
lol, martinins are fine river, the idea is not to have them at work lol
husband just said he didn't care if I cooked or not. Oh yeah, right! Who brought him homemade food in hospital? Who is trying desperately to fatten up his skinny body? Hmmmm
martinis
but I dont have anyone that knows how to make one ....ruby and crossy please come live with me...
if not for the dogs, I'd be out of here on the next plane!!!!!
they can come too - will be great friends with my dogs...
you could do a taste-test, river, vodka vs. gin martinis. And after several, youst probably wouldn't know the difference\
do not forget to whisper "Antonio Benedetto Carpano" gently into the glass
well I really must get back to work now - been procrastinating too long as it is and my desk is a disaster zone....have a great day everyone
lol ruby
OK, you've got me now, crossy, who is that?
bye, river!
the man who invented vermouth
lol
that must be the trick to a great martini crossy
{{river}}
aaaah, bless him, then
so you dont put in the vermouth..you just whisper the name....ahhhhh got it
((Hugs)) to all - poof
i used to wave the bottle over the shaker, but sometimes i overdid it
I put in a tiny bit of vermouth; it makes the gin more mellow
of course dome days i add a few drops like ruby does
some'
are dome days like lent?
indeed
I worked at Los Alamos back in the 1970s, and knew some of the weapons designers who had been there a long time. What they would do (or say they did) was strap a bottle of vermouth to a weapon that was about to be fired and then hold the glass of gin up to the fallout (thereby getting just about the right amount of vermouth).
I love that!!!!!
LOL!!!!!!!!!
bonsoir, une!
salut!
hi, une!
see? now they do it right uu!
hey sue :-)
:-)
Hawkeye Pierce..."I'd like a dry martini. A very dry martini. A very dry, arid, barren, desiccated, veritable dustbowl of a martini. I want a martini that could be declared a disaster area. Mix me just such a martini."
nothing like fallout vermouth with just a touch of uranium p-238
Ruby, I've been noodling around in a really fun website you might like: www.journalepicurien.com
it's my fault, this group may be getting a little rowdy. However, I need the smiles as this is rather bleak
U-235, actually :-)
how does it taste..."how does what taste? " lol
good one, molly! :-)
or Pu-239
Hi, Molly!
cool! a matrini with a half-life rating!!
uh-oh, male parts alert!
pardon?
dans le grid :-)
not you, crossy, we love you!!!!!
Ruby, you JUST got that. I detect disinterest. : P
you are prescient, molly!!!
good, was goona say may parts usually do not come with a warning..sometimes without but never with lol
I learned a bit of French kid slang when my son was in a day camp one summer - had to look up what "zizi" meant (although it was fairly clear from the context)
and zinzin :-)
hahah
don't know zinzin
I'll have to remember that one, une :-)
zinzin: fou, folle, dingue
it's not in my handy petit Robert!
:-)
"il est completement zinzin!"
(example)
"crazy"
that is very cute; I'll try it in the neighborhood and see how it flies
I had a couple of books called "merde" and "merde encore" that were very useful for words not in the usual dictionaries :-)
I'll bet that une's French is better than mine
oh, i had those too, sue!!!!!!!!!!LOL
my housekeeper teaches me local slang and I teach her bad English words (which she would never use!)
brit translation is "completely potty"
ruby, i know very little slang . . . except expressions like "ras le bol" :-)
my ex was afraid if I learned them I'd use them accidentally in polite company :-)
the first I learned was "fiches moi le paix" but I was young and cute then
well, and that's the "nice" version
(and FYI paix is feminine)
I never knew if the guys were following me or my little boy....it was creepy
hahah
my gutter French surfaces
:-D
no paix around here
and the only pun I ever learned had to do with a girl ordering a banana split and being served a "banane en slip"
I love that!
and we come full circle! LOL
loving our chat but must leave for awhile -- BBL! :-)
{{une}}
I guess I have to make dinner for Mr. Doesn't care if I do or I don't
goooooooooooooooooood afternoon fellow babblers xxx
bye, une and ruby!

LBD, I just sent the paper to my printer... 19 pages of text. This is the next-to-last draft!

Sorry lbd, had to take a phone call. It's an alternate spelling for Japanese master for anyone else who needed it.

hiya JMC
third generation ever?
So the stidkid whose bday it isn't just called and (no surprise to me) reported that he won't be able to do the second culminating project he was working on. So he has to go back to the original plan (which was stalled when he left his computer unattended at school and it was stolen)... *sigh*
stidkid is kinda pushing his luck, methinks
He was demanding I get the piano tuned. ASAP. Not that I have anything else on my plate... *heavier sigh*
He could have been DONE already if he had used his four weeks of winter break to just redo the original project!!!!
I told him to find some else with a piano that is in tune enough for him to use for practicing.
*grumble* meantime, I am eating a left-over waffle from Sunday for my breakfast, and hoping the change in light levels outside doesn't mean it has started to snow in earnest...
reallly brings to home why some animals eat their young, huh. ;-)
Good morning, luvs. Stid - is there a piano store near you. He could go practice there.
surely they have a piano at the school
roflmao!!!! he would be too scrawny to eat!
He could rent an electronic keyboard as well.
keyboard play differently than pianos so it depends on what he is playing
they have pianos at the high school AND at the college. His grandmother has a baby grand, remember? I also have an electric keyboard. Too bad he doesn't have any other options than my 50 year-old slightly out of tune piano.
Phhhhffffthbbbb. Throw him to the musical wolves.
i do remember the baby grand now that you mention it
thanks Judi -- that's what I am thinking!
poor stiddy. teenage angst...really
tell him that deitrick bonhoffer drew his own piano keyboard on a table to play while he was imprisoned by the Nazis and get over it
he's about to receive a large cardboard box for his graduation present if you ask me, and directions to the nearest as-yet-unclaimed overpass
He could play for tips in some honky tonk.
jmc! That's perfect! I had forgotten that one.
are there still honky tonks?
YES! :-)
I thought all the casinos out them out of business
bonjour, belle Une!
Where there are starving musicians, there will always be honky tonks. So I'm told.
no casinos here in NashVegas
but there are in Washington State on the reservations
salut, stid!
That's lunch. I'm outta here until after my salad. *POOF*
bye Judi!
see if you hadn't driven all of your native americans out of the state you could have casinos
tell him that's how Harry Connick Jr. started out! :-)
bye judi
just zipping in and out -- byeeee *poof*
bye judi
bye une
hi unea
((Une))
bye unea
sometimes it is hard to have a conversation with all the hi'n and bye'n
*sigh* lunch is finished and those numbers aren't going to get crunched by themselves
ugh. it's snowing a little bit now. I should wash my hair and get into town so I am early for my appointment with my faculty,
later jmc. will trade number crunching for paper writing... *hopeful look*
bye bbl
gotta go do some house cleaning and class prep. bbl i hope.
I say, get the Stidkid a keytar and let him busk for dollars. *evil grin*
later LBD ((hugs))
too tempting, Molly!
unfortunately, this is the stidkid I worry about most, I can't and won't let him completely fall through the cracks, but I do want him to start seeing that he needs to ask for and accept assistance when offered.
I am down to 50. That's a good stopping place for now. Back later this afternoon or evening to hang out and maybe finish the grid as my reward for good behavior.
If I behave... *wicked mama look*
*poof*
behave? thats crossy,s middle name;)

Wow, double use of Peri's name. Someone is NOT paying attention. Moi.

Good afternoon all
Hello Mr. Bob.
Have no tea... but will babble for a few minutes anyway - hi all !
Hi Montreal. Plenty tea in the PB!! :-)
luc, no tea?
hi soodle, dorens... what did I say ?
oh... just kidding...lol
LOL you said nothing Montreal... I was just letting you know that if you needed tea!!!
12:18 pm montreal13 ProfileCanada Have no tea... but will babble for a few minutes anyway - hi all and I haven't seen you in ages, but you always used to HAVE tea!
hello all
*faints at seeing montreal here*
hi stid, soodle etc. (and yes, me too)
Hi Stidmama , Dorens :-)
well... maybe I should purposely write a grid word in order to get tea... hmmm..
what are you doing here in the middle of the day, doren?
hi stid how are you ?
anyone here old enough to remember the watusi?
montreal -- I have MISSED you! are you well? are you snowed in? We have SNOW here!!!!!
lunch stid... about to go though
ah, lunch. grad students don't get lunch. We munch while we work...
it snowed most days in the last 2 months... but only 2 major storms...
that's what i do, but i do check out the grid... eat lunch at my desk... dual purpose... catch up on phone calls, etc, do some paperwork (coffee spills all over impt. papers) and catch a few words
i remember the watusi dorens...
actually I am waiting for a faculty conference, the paper is printed out and ready to go over, so I really don't have a whole lot to do. Except the science assignment, readings for Friday take-home assessment on special education, and starting to work on the presentation for our conferene.
it's almost in the grid !! i'm ready to get up and dance
dance like on one is watching dorens!!..boom-chakka-lakka...doing da crossy shuffle!....hoo-yaaa!
not doing too well but don't want to complain as my mother-in-law has been stuck in the hospital for the last 2 weeks ,,,
oh gee montreal *sends flowers to m-i-l and cookies for montreal*
tx stid...
sorry bout you m-i-l mons:( mine currently has double pnemonia;(
hey cross!!! *sends bacon and ibuprofen to cross in case he threw out his back there...*
"Good vibes" to Montreal.....

*crosses figners so no more people get even single pneumonia...*
being old in winter, I guess
Ditto what Stidmama said!!
and I was wondering if it was contagious, nobody has said
and of course she would not stay in the hosp,so we has to get a nurse to come to the house each day to give her antibiotic i.v
Did you enjoy your lunch, Rubes?
no and it was scary having him drive
not breathing well, not being able to cough efficiently, taking drugs that alter the immune system....
and her veins like to go into hiding;(
yes,we told her to take probiotics while she was on that other crap
at least our weather is wonderful!
Oh, double yick.... Crossy's MIL and Ruby's not too good lunch. :-(
you let him drive??? *suddenly very glad to be across an ocean from France*
-1 and sunny here, not bad for our neck of the woods
*Skips through the chat log scattering healing blessings to all those who need them*
we have snow on the ground ruby -- was sunny briefly, but now clouding over again.
Hey MollyO :-)
howdy molly
hahah, stidmama, only a couple of minutes away, in our village
only one block on a real road, otherwise back streets -- don't worry
hm. well.... *pokes nose out of shell*
and I had to drive home
*puts full head out*
My Dad (now 83) had to have his car 'repossessed' (his words) when a neighbour saw him driving the wrong way round a roundabout!
brb it's looking stormlike near home (on campus in town atm) -- going to go check the weather radar for our area
one of these days I'll have to do that, but he's only a danger to himself and I don't have the heart
oh dear! so glad someone noticed him before someone got hurt!
Too right, Stid.
We had to take cars away from both of my parents as their ability to drive began to fail. That is a hard thing to do.
yep. oh oh... I just realized... weather phenomenon in the GRID!!!! *sob* why didn't someone TELL ME???? *shuffles into PB*
I don't think there's a tactful way to do it, but, for the moment, it isn't an issue. His frailty is more important and the doctor said it was too soon to drive (after the fact)
Very hard, Moll. My Dad is still very disgruntled! Alive - but disgruntled!
but was he gruntled before?
looking for stid's weather.....
We asked my grandfather's doc to write to the DMV and suggest he retake the driving test. He failed, and then it wasn't really anyone's fault. But Granny figured it out and was not happy.
Frantically looking for weather phenomenon in grid..
just found it
Cloo, plz Rooby.....
had to look at the distant mountains.....
on the peaks of the Alps
Hah! Thank you - didn't see that one :-)
neither did I until stid mentioned it
*tosses weather-phenomenon ball at soodles*
lol, soodles, over here, roundabouts are very new and rarewe are lucky?? to have the first roundabout in this entire county...things are evil if you ask me
between here and Annecy, there are about 6 of them
Lol Stid. Cross - they are plentiful here, and work well (if everybody obeys the rules!)
i get on the thing and put the petal to the floor trying to get to the spot where i need to get off at before anyone else gets on the silly thing lool
I like the roundabouts. UNTIL an old person doesn't know that it is a yield and go, not an automatic STOP. And then all the traffic in the circle and backed up has trouble getting going.
and I mean that... respectfully. REALLY old people who were driving in the 30s and 40s know how they work. People who learned to drive in the 50s and 60s, generally, don't because some bright engineer thought traffic lights were more efficient.
The biggest roundabout here is called (mysteriously) the Red Cow Roundabout - known to all as The Mad Cow Roundabout!!
when I was young, I once got into the circle around the Arc de Triomphe and couldn't get off. I finally stopped the car and 6 lanes of courteous Frenchmen, stopped their cars so I could exit!
like i say, roundabouts here are new and rare
and insane lol
for real, ruby??? I thought that only happened in cartoons!!!
what nice frenchmen, though!
I was cute then, I guess!
in my little VW
Oh, Ruby, we did the Arc de Triomphe roundabout once, in an Irish car (Right-hand drive). I still get nightmares about it. It was terrifying.
anyways, must head to work,tc all and happy babbling! poof!
hahah soodles
(((cross))) drive carefully -- and have a lovely day!
{{crossy}}
Have a good day, Crossy :-)
we had that same VW in England and I used to drive around with a left-hand drive
there. down to 39. Feeling a sense of accomplishment. Going to check email and such before my appointment at 11. Back later to play!!! *poof*
Its very unnerving driving a 'wrong-sided-steering-wheel-car'.
Stid, we were okay with you saying sn4. We were only going to send you to the PB if you said pe 5/12. : P
Bye (((Stid)))
{{stidmama}}
watch out for those pe5's!
Smacks forehead! How in goodness's name did I miss that one???
Rhetorical question.... NOBODY answer that!
Same reason Ruby missed it Soodle. Lack of interest.
Lack of something (!) Moll!!!
there is a weather phenomena that starts with pe?
hi jmc
hi all
100 left
Hi JMC - the PE being referred to is not weather related.....
ah then i am less confussled
i only had bogs and hammers
just found another way to spell the weather phenom
The 'wotsit' that is mightier than the sword......
thought it was a pe5/12 -- that is a pe4/5
nm my head is full of vanilla pudding again

harry I think it means to put in the wrong chair
aah - got it :)
got another Y word
ah i had a rasta in my office the other day

Wouldn't there be two s's in that word if if meant that? To put in the wrong chair I mean.

hi, all!
I am in and out today as various things go on with my dad...
hello all -- no one here?
hi there all. Could I trouble someone for the clue for the at 6?
hey bichon, I don't have that one yet
now I do. A + t word meaning not a child, not quite an adolescent
Have it too
wow, thanks stid - never heard that word before!
thanks stid!
I am not sure I have either, helena! hello!
yw cos. gee give a clue and you-all come out of the woodwork...
Morning all.
lol i just got on :)
it
morning lynxxx!
it's a rather very excellent day
really cos? por quoi?
Obama ordered the Justice Dept. to drop it's defense of the DOMA
major win for gay marriage.. big step towards national equality
YES! I heard that!!! *very happy mama smile* Now we can hope that someone will challenge it.
i read about that, too, cos - very exciting
im hoping soon my marriage will be valid in colorado. i know we have a long way to go but this is a very strong step towards it
What does this all mean, actually. Will there be same sex marriage in every state, and recognized by every state?
this means that any place that someone has challenged DOMA in the courts, the federal defense will no longer support it.
*hopeful look for cos* and for many others I know.
thats what im trying to figure out bichon.
but its a good move. a very good move. the President just earned my vote.
Connecticut welcomes same sex marriages with open arms
legally it has been up to each state to set the limits of marriage within its borders.
it's about to be legal in Maryland too..just passed the senate there.. house likely to pass and the Governor says he will sign it
That makes it 7 or 8 states legal now.
during miscengenation times some states refused to recognize inter-racial marriage -- and that was finally a supreme court of the US case that required all states to recognize those marriages.
Great news! And go Wisconsin Unions!
DOMA was put in place because people could see a similar thing happening with same-sex marriage.
more good news.. the Indiana Governor dropped his bill similar to Wisconsin's and the Indiana Dems won the stand-off
So... what may happen soon is that states that don't officially allow people to marry within their borders may begin to recognize marriages from other states...
It was legal in Maine, until there was a referendum
oh that is excellent cos
that was very disappointing Bichon
Can you imagine Mississippi recognized a same sex marriage?
Civil unions just became legal in Illinois (through vote of the legislature, not court action) - if DOMA goes away maybe we will have actual marriage for everyone!
lol it'd be fitting though Bich... since its such a racial tension state
well, they rcognize interracial marriages. They can recognize same sex, too.
Gov Barbor in MS refuses to denounce the KKK
can and will are two different things, I'm afraid
hello sue! cute kiddo you have there!
although I think what we should have is civil unions for everyone, and leave marriage to the churches et al...
what about my kids stid?
thanks, stid!!
Illinois just legalized civil unions and Hawaii is about to.
rofl, cute as ever, bichon!
right, cos
yay, illinois!!
I like how they are all snuggled up in the comforter. Wish I were snuggled up...

oh no, bichon!
bye Stid
wow i monkeyed the im6/7
but will she wear it now Bichon?
bye, stid!
When she feel like it. Ditto for her O2. My mother is very independent
Yes, bichon, my dad refuses to even consider getting one; says he has his cell phone (which at the moment needs charging, sigh)
Yes, there's the cell phone charging issue. She also can't figure out how to retirieve voice mail and everyone thinks she's ignoring them. It's so difficult
Hello again friends!
Let us all hope that none of us are that 'independent' when we reach the age to need it. Stubborn/reckless may be better words!
hi Car
Just found a cool online weight loss support system...calorie counter, journal, chat, etc. very excited!
get the charger that you just lay the cell phone on and put it on the place where they lay their cell phone at night.
then get on their phone and leave as the answering message: this is mother so and so. Please call again as I do not check messages
hi jmc
or in the alternative call their cell phone when you know they wont have it on and leave enough messages to fill up the box so that no one can leave a message
is it sparkpeople, car?
hi lynxxx
<===big on work arounds

Fireworks!!!!
I can hang out an clue until the repair person comes...
Hooray for car.eeyore!
I'm ashamed to ask for a 4-letter clue, but how about the ne4/5 before the lights?
and the ne4/4 after them?
I could sure use a clue for the last se 5/10 for fireworks!

Famous T-man, Eliot NE** fought Al Capone

SE 5 is famous french river or a fishing net

Poor Eeyore!

Lil is on a roll.
Hi Molly! wassup
wtg lil!
hi molly
i stil have 89 to find
Hi all.
hello ladies and gets
*gents
hows the puzzle tonight?
Hi Shoo. The grid is not too nasty. It's rather quiet in the chat though.
so it would appear molly :)
Hi Everybody. How are you all tonight?
good nef, and you?
Evenin' Nef, how are you?
doing okay. I got NBT this AM when I was here; but am now returning and still have 130 left to find on this grid!
Hi Molly and Shoo. How are you guys doing with the grid?
Okay, so far, so good. Now down to 110
Shoo, by the way, I have been hanging out with musicians since I was 14, so I speak your language. : D
there is a sn4/8 letter word in this grid that I've had way too much of lately!
the one with the o or the one with the a?
hello everyone!
hi jmb. the one with the O
glad to hear it molly. what do you do? you in the industry?
figured... i don't know what the one with the a means anyway lol
jmb, it means the same thing I think just one of Robbie Burns words.... :-)
pons
OOPS!!!
I know, I know, off to the penalty box I go; hope there's enough choclits there for tonight
No Shoo, I just faithfully follow my musician friends around from gig to gig. I give good audience. : P
Nef! Lucky you. There is chocolates AND chocolate cake in there. Go crazy.
fabulous. anyone i'd know?
sure wish i could use latin in this grid
Oh hell no. Just local guys who have been in bands since high school. They are now referred to as the "over the hill gang". But, good for them, they are still playing.
sounds like a nice bunch, passion is what its all about.
Shoo, how long have you been touring?
hey Molly; I think both my kids are crazy-makers (reading your profile). They're both ADHD
is jill still here???
*waves to everyone*
hello stid and everyone else
hi stid and Bugs
hey bugs!!!
having fun yet stid?
hi Nef!
bah. fun. highly overrated!
how are you doing tonight, Bugs?
not for me!
doing well tonight thanks. Have been feeling a bit stretched lately but have nothing on tonight. YAY
so glad for you, bugs! I have to get up after a while and back a bday cake and make some (fake) BBQ chicken.
stid has forgotten what that word means I think. Too much work and no play, etc....
but resting first. It was a long day.
I agree Nef. I figure if it is not fun, it may not be worth doing it that way
well, my faculty liked the paper, had some good suggestions that I am going to try to implement, and so I am relieved. But also now I have to start working pretty hard on "everything else."
I *should* be checking out some stuff on the MN Dept. of Health site tonight; but just can't get motivated to do it (I had a meeting there today on my day off
blech. my faculty member, (with some authority to back her up) said that using "should" is too directive and "might" or "could" are better words...
I'm glad the faculty liked your paper, stid. That helps a bit I'm sure (should give you a sense of relief, right?)
she is right stid but people only notice how many times they get told what they should do when we are feeling vulnerable.
well, I think Should is a pretty good word. Kind of like Must! ;-)
yes, a bit. the work that is left is mostly tying up loose ends and checking the citations one last time. Fortunately, I am a decent writer so the basic structures and flow are fine.
that's a good point bugs
I remember when I had to leave the marriage and was feeling very vulnerable. They guy next door was trying to help but he kept telling me what I should do and then was annoyed when I stalled.
It was the only time I remember hearing Should as a directive.
sorry for the late reply nef, I've been touring since October, and we finish next January. Its a long old trek, but its pretty fun so far.
I Should myself on a regular basis! ;)
hey shooless!
WE had
oops
oh bugs, that is hard at any time. and we (you and I both) like to be in charge! ((hugs))
there are all sorts of shoulda, coulda, woulda things. I'm trying to think of the other terms that are directive too: can and may, shall and ??? I forgot!
oh! found three in a row! down to 30.
It's We Will Rock You, so of course its all Queen songs, and its produced by Brian May and Roger Taylor, and they both came along to our press night in Copenhagen tonight, Roger played onstage for the Bohemian Rhapsody finale, so we're all having a nice time playing with the big boys.
Hey stid, how you doing?
15 months of touring, shoo? Wow! that takes stamina; to say the least!
I shoulda just found a job as a para for a couple years instead of jumping into training for teaching. I coulda gone to a different school that allows people to take time out or go part-time as needed. I woulda just grabbed my teaching certification when I was in my 20s if I had realized how hard it is to go back to school in mid-life....
its 4 or so weeks in each place, so at least its not moving every week.
weekly moves are just killers
very, very, amazingy, awesomely, cool, shooless!
very cool shooless. I love Queen music
Stid...all work and no play...you know the rest of that right? Time for a break you hard working woman. What do you do for fun?
now, *that* sounds a lot better than what I was imagining, shooless! I was picturing you moving every 2-3 nights...
thanks stid, and nef. It's just a job like any other, i have so much respect for teachers though stid, its not easy, but so necessary.
okay, so the dog brings his "dongle" -- a large bone-shaped rubber toy we throw for him in the yard and puts it on the bed next to me. I tell him to get a squeaky ball for inside play. He takes the dongle and goes into the other room for a few minutes. Then he comes back in and puts the dongle on the bed next to me...
now he is whining because I am not getting up to take him outside... (here's the dongle again)
yeah, this show is way too big for short stints like that nef, we'd spend more time getting all the kit in and out of venues than we would doing shows.
he wants outside play, stid!~ :-)
LOL yep. But he went outside when I got home, and the kids can do just as well. maybe better...
what kind of dog is he stid?
hello all
stidbdaykid will take him out in a minute.
hey TO!
hi TO
german shepherd, shooless. he knows it's hopeless, he just wishes otherwise
i am atching idol and a couple of the kids have never heard a beatles song. i feel owd.
??? how can one grow up and not hear all those songs?
that is a combination of old and owl
LOL TO! was wondering...
Those poor kids. No parents around to introduce them to some of the best music ever.
(pops in briefly while dad is on the phone)
you are kidding, TO. They haven't heard Beatles songs? Yikes! We are getting old!
((sue)) hello again!
hi uusue
well they are young. how goes it, usue?
Nef, I don't think it has anything to do with getting old. Beatles music is still played all over the place. These are obviously kids who have not been exposed to a wide spectrum of music. Sad.
they must have heard it even as elevator music I would think!
btw, sue... you were a clue for me!!!
i guarantee they have been nexposed to whatever is the moment's hot stuff. i have begun to hate melisma, thye have no idea how to use it
Hi everyone! UUsue...still here?
I have no idea what melisma is, TO
hey carlee!!
Hey Stid! I am all done if anyone needs clues.
hi car.ee
Hi nef!
singing several notes for the same word. s tyle often found in gospel
sometimes notes, sometimes runs
I am with you TO...not a fan of the ongoing runs. I would rather hear someone that can actually hit 1 note well.
they have a place, but not on every song and every note
so is it like harmony? (I really am lost here... MY age must be showing!)
ooh i am loving james!
I could be wrong, but it seems Mariah Carey started that running a note, or notes, all over the place. It's become annoying. And yes Car, I prefer someone who can belt out one, good, solid note.
Think Mariah CArey or Christina Aguilera...notes just all over the place
Snap Car.
Great minds, Molly!
okay, that I understand
oh gee *rubs eyes* perhaps I ought to find my glasses....
an ornamental phrase of several notes sung to one syllable of text, as in plainsong or blues singing. actually began in plainsong
let's hear it for Sarah Vaughn!!
Arrgh! I am not watching it...am recording it for tomorrow.
Oh God, if only there was an up and coming singer like Sarah Vaughn. Or Etta James.
hi doren how was your trip?
Yeah Sarah Vaughn!
*belts out a fine A 339*
fantastic. beautiful weather... couldn't be niver
Go Stid!

Her Dad died.

her father passed away
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that.
Hi Pini
Please send her my love.
I'm pleased to announce I toasted my computer today and got to leave early...
PINI!!!! {{HUGS}}}}
Well done Sistah!
...just in time to prep for the 1-2" of snow we're finally going to get tomorrow! :)
idol is on v.s america's next top model. that is just not fair, how an i select between two such exquisitely shallow shows without redeeming social value?
She's had a lot of family and Dad's friends around and is looking forward to some time alone to process things. She seems to be hanging in, like I said, such as it is.
TO...use the "favorite" button on your remote control to switch between the two?
well put owl
thx for the kudo's, sistah...I was pretty proud of myself, too ;)
:D
gee pini -- WAY betterer than my own best efforts. (I almost drained my laptop battery today while on campus without my power cord)
thanks for the im word!
*Watching "House"...doesn't qualify for exquisitely shallow*
I was set to go home even earlier, stid, but the boss reminded me that we did just buy that departmental laptop...
omg the models are in giant plastic bubbles walking on a water runway!
...going from two 23" screens to a single 15" laptop was "interesting"!
LOOOOOOOOVE House!
it is hysterical i would love to do that
Just called to find out when the repair person is coming to fix the heat...another 2-3 hours!!!!
oh that is a long time to wait, car!
oh no, car! is it very cold up there?
* offers sistah a nice warm sweater *
oh man, just HAD to remind you! LOL
does sound like fun, TO
*ups the ante with a mug of hot cocoa and a plate of cookies*
oh turn it on it is worth it
could any one help me with the top left i?
* throws in extra socks and electric blanket *
nevermind
id4
oops, too late
*adds a bottle of pirate warmer...*
Thank you all. I originally called it in at 5:30...so it has been a while. We are fine, but my mom's bedroom is in that end of the house, so we will have to shuffle things around a bit.
(but we're not competitive*
* giggle *
No, competition is good! Go ahead! Fight over my affection!!!
*grin*
ROFL
not that car can ne bought or anything :P
I just like the attention!
well, I have rested for a full hour... down to 22 and would like to get the kiddo's bday supper started. back later. (((many hugs and many smiles and extra choclits))) thanks for being here, friends! *poof*
ciao stid :)
Bye Stid! Good to see you!
back. Cleaned up my kitchen mess on my way through too.
Car, sorry to hear about your heat issue. Hope the repair man gets there soon. (Can I hope he's cute too?)
Ooh! Come do mine Nef!
i am stalled at 40...crap, my 6 key just broke
uh oh ... guess my work computer failure is spreading! :/
I look like pure crapola today, so please, not a cutie!
What do you need TO? I am here to help!
uh, a new job, a housekeeper, a date...
Done, done and done!
what does a 6 key do? (I'm on a mac...)
WTG, car.ee!!! YAY!!!
wtg sistah
No! I meant with all of TO's wishes! I finished the grid a while ago!
LOL
A 6 key does....6 and ^ on my computer
wtg on both counts then!
car.ee; I hope that the repair guy is cute and nice and doesn't care how you look but sees your inner light shining through and falls for you. Oh. AND he's single too!
Well thank you Nef! and Molly! How nice for me!
(but you should probably comb your hair! ;-)
ok, time for sleep for me i think. night all, or morning i guess. 2:40 am here in copenhagen. good luck with the grid, and thanks for letting me bnatt

he even us** our own grape leaves once
can they be made a week ahead?
ad if so, how to store? fridge, froze?
I would think so; if you're using a brine to store them in (they come canned in a brine too
time for babble. HI babble buddies!
eo 6 pls?
in the fridge
hi Gwen
the brine would soak ito the filling ad make it too salty... usually you wash the brie off the leaves before rollig
wow! you heard it here first! fuel prices are ready to go crazy,i advise you all to fill up before lunch tomorrow, here we will be looking at $1.25 per lit ($5.00 per U.S gallon)
oh heck cross, as soon as the operators hear the prediction they raise the price, i am not kidding
kje, you can buy dolmades already made and they are in cans in brine. Our neighbors had them and she did a quick rinse to wash off some of the brine before serving them
prices already gone up here today (Detroit area)
our gas jumped 12 cents/gallon overnight on Monday night. :-(
we(suncor) are closing the refineries in the lybia area of insanity and have spent mon and tues pulling out all refinery workers and canadians that wish to leave...it is going to be interesting
i heard average in u.s. is $3.19 . it is absurd that obama stated there is NO inflation in the u.s. my groceries all cost more each time i go to shop. what is he thinking? if he is just seeing housing stats then he is a jerk.
we must go to electric cars and fast.
we dream of 3.19 a gallon lol
ours is now $3.31/gallon
has anyone clued the eo6?
sorry TO; I don't have it yet
*and* they need to make cars that don't rust. I just spent all my money on my effin' car again. mostly due to rust. GRRRRRR
eo 6 - beliefs in eo 4
the brits are going to be hit very hard
TY WV
Hi Gwen, Crossy, WV, mkg...
howdy car
'sup eeyore??
ia m glad i found the y , have used it at least 7 times
catch 22 gwen, you can move to our western provinces where it gets so cold in the winter they do not use salt as it becomes useless below minus 20,they just use sand lol
no i want a cheap plastic car! lol
you can get a saturn as the body is all fibreglass, but the engine is crap in them
back ...
hell no, ain't gittin' no effin' saturn!
<-- potentially looking for new car (SUV 4wd) ... any input?
you can get a corvette, they are all fibreglass...
oh, crap, ain't gittin' no effin' GM, kill me first! LOL
bad time to get a suv pini..the gasoline prices are going to be scary till summer at least
I am going to head out...need to go into the cold end of the house and do all the dishes! Yuck!
even a 'small' one, cross? 2wd?
pini, you need an SUV for a reason? cuz you can get all0wheel0drive a lot cheaper
eeyore, two words: space heater!
i reccomend a suzuki outback awd with the in-line 6
I need to be able to put Koda's small kennel in it...
Have a great night all! {{hug}}
outback sport model
night sistah
outback is good on potential resale value, quality, mpg, price, etc.?
must be a big cage, huh?
not really, gwen, but won't fit in a sedan
yes on all but the price, will be a tad high, but you are paying for awd,and a rock solid car with good warranty
what kind of price am I looking at, crossy?
(range-wise)
new or used?
at this point, I may not be too picky; but definitely not too old
sedan? who said anything about a sedan? silly cars. hatchback or station wagon
(if used)
what kind of mileage, crossy? (I'm disappointed in my Rav4's paultry 24-28 MPG)
good night all. happy babbling
for a 3-6 year old model 12-17,000 for the outback sport
night TO :)
Bye 72 Temple Owl! I will see you tomorrow in the log.
but they get 300,000 km without breaking a sweat
Nef, that's not a bad mpg...not like my truck anyway
that sounds promising, crossy
milage will be 25-30 mpg
<-- love my truck and hate the idea of maybe having to give it up...but...well, gas prices are going to kill me and I'm not interested in having it "look pretty in the driveway"
I want something that gets 30 mpg or greater....
my toyota ech gets 42 mpg,but you cannot put a kennel in it lol
echo
My husbands trucks only get 4 to 5 mpg...tractor trailers...this gas is going to kill us!
hmmm...
is he independant?
that's worse than mine, sea!!!
my 19-y-o- car gets about 30, but more and more parts are too darn rusty to work
yes Crossy, he has a logging business
my hyndai elantra got 36 mpg but couldn't hold DH's wheel chair or his electric cart. I still haven't figured out how to get the cart into the Rav without taking it apart
19 yeears old? you have done well, retire the poor thing
can't afford to retire it. bought it when it was 17-y-o, gotta make it last a little while longer!
Gwen your car is living on borrowed time! lol
OH YES
My truck is an ornament as it is...I've put a whole almost 10K miles on it in 18 months :/
well,i am in the fuel business seaspray and i am telling you ,by this time next year he will be paing at least 30% more for diesel
D's Demoloshed! 10 left

i'll be eatin' ramen noodles for a while . . . HI cybernan!
hi nan
Hi cybernan! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
can he get out or at least just use fuel to harvest, but sub out the delivery
I had my Hyundai for 8 years; my dtr. bought it from me. I got 38-40 mpg on my last trip out to Montana with it (4 years ago)
I love ramen noodles Gwen
crossy, are outbacks 'wagons'?
they are pini
but they are very well thought out
dang it...Koda's into something...brb
(I forgot too mention the Hyundai is now 11 yers old
let me get you a pic...1 sec
he does more hauling than anything, actually he hauls for other companys also...sooooo, beans it will be lol
I believe they are Pini

pini, you need to use tinyurl.com (!)
ah, never mind

whats the milage on that one pini?
hi, all!

hhi uusue! How's it going?
evening all
hi dan2!
hi dan2
pretty good! dad and I just fell asleep watching episodes of Fall of Eagles :-)
hey there sue!
hello friends. have had two glasses of wine...wheeeeee
Hi, Gwen!
hi trif
excellent pini!! grat milage!!
great
that eagles movie has eyrie music
...and it comes in a color I like, crossy!
it does, ruru
with that milage and under 20 thou,it is good
hi ru
might have to look into it, crossy ;)
(just wish it came with pictures of the actual vehicle it's talking about)
Hi all, how is Babbleland?
hi wht
Hello wht! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle!
hi, wht!
that at 6 has to be a fake word!
I have 12 s's left.
44 to go here and really stuck
look at my link for a pic of the car type pini
I'm looking at 'em now, crossy...
...the stats are worrying me :/
Pros Fine ride and handling balance, enjoyable power delivery from XT Limited's turbocharged engine, excellent build and materials quality, sure-footed in snowy or light off-roading conditions, outstanding crash test scores. Cons Tight backseat for a midsize car, automatic transmissions sap performance, stability control not available on lower trim levels.
Need to be able to seat 4 adults
(at least) with a babyseat
it seats four comfy-5 in a pinch
NI, 5/10 and NI,5/12......help please
ni5/10 are Japanese Americans
ni5 is one of those weird japanese loan-words: ni + plural letter + two vowels
i am talking about the sport model,in the higher option and trim level though, not the standard outback
It kinda scares me in that it's a 'station wagon' (family-type)...and it's just me and Koda and occasionally my dau, SIL, and grands
ok
I'm looking through the different models now
well you want something awd that can haul pooch
and decent mialge, that limits the choices
true...but figured a hatch back might not be so 'family'
don't be fooled by the term "station wagon" -- there is no "official" category for SUVs, minivans, etc, so they are classified as station wagons (at least in michigan)
nis 5/10 are Japanese Americans and ni 5/12 is same beginning and ends with not we but ** flashman1998.
hi to those who have arrived since I dove in -- coming up for air and a glass of wine :)
For the ni5, change the first letter of a word one might use for their wife.
gotcha, gwen...
thoughts on the Ford Escape?
i do not buy hyundai or nissan,or izuzu awd vehicles cause the build is cheap..things have firewalls as thin as tissue paper and they rust while you are looking at them
great, crossy....that's what I'd be letting go (a Nissan)
i have always paid a tad extra for a quality build
crossy, my elantra had no rust (even after being in MN for over 8 years). I don't know about the firewall; I never had a fire
a firewall is not for a fire per se nef,but more to stop the engine from ending up in yer lap after a collision;)
I figured it wasn't what it sounded like, crossy; I just meant it seemed pretty darn safe
each oner experience will vary i am sure

crossy, what about a 'hatchback'?
DH (before he quit driving) had some mionor run ins with 1) a trailer hitch on a truck and 2) the handicapped posts at the grocery store and 3) a short brick berm wall at the clinic. The front bumper cracked, but never dented or broke off.
some companies are coming out with lines of awd hatchies..but i have only driven a few
Go, Min!
how about the new subaru quasimodo
se + pale and listless
oh.. that's a humpback
my mom owns an All-wheel-drive hatchback. also an old car that still goes. 18 years old, i think
i do not know it ruru,i i thing pini is looking for gently used
sorry, wht, I don't have it yet
I am done! I have fireworks! ta5/12 was my last word

I like toyotas pini.. they run forever
I'll be here off and on for the rest of the night to clue
me, too...but still need to watch the $
my father had 250,000 miles on his corolla before it died
gas is a factor now too
$4 a gallon here
that's why I'm looking at 'options'
good for you
what's the theme today? I should change my icon for jilli
It sounds as if the theme is cars.
ruru i had a 1976 toyota corolla that had 455,000 miles on it ..god i miss its manual choke;)
I love toyotas
they do run forever ruru, thats why i still drive one;)
I am on my 4th
I drive 35,000 miles per year
The way I have judged cars is where and when they break down.
hopes that Pini won't buy a Ford or VW
I like toyota's, too...if that's a consideration, what's the best option for what I'm looking for (a type of crossover or compact SUV, AWD, can carry Koda's small kennel in back)
They will all break down. A good car breaks down when it is convenient.
I'm trying to avoid it, ru
my current is a 2004 toyota echo and in that time i have done the front brakes once and replaced a tail light bulb;)
TA,6/18 help please
Toyota Rav 4
if pini buys a vw,it bette be the jetta tdi deisel..they last forever lol
t + most of the TV collie
I had a VW bug once that I liked a lot, but it's final breakdown was when I was on my way out of town on vacation.
seats 4 adults, ru? good mileage?
got it.....thanks......1 left
I had a VW..it was always in the shop
ruru, that's what I have now. But I'm unhappy with the mileage (I bought it this past summer when DH was ill. It's a 2008 Rav4 with 40,000 miles and it gets 24-28 mpg)
I think they get 23-25 mpg pini
seats 5 I think with room in the back for a crate
lol pini a jetta tdi deisel gets 1200 kms on 40 litres of deisel
I had a VW Fox...blew a piston driving up the highway...cost me a new engine
nice, crossy!
<---hates Vw's
On the other hand I had a Saab 96 which had a constant velocity joint go on it two blocks from my girlfriends house and she was right behind me.
<---really hates saabs too
saabs are nasty
euro trash cars that are built by idiots
my wife spent most of her Saab life in a tow truck
always breaking down
So, I'm focusing on Subaru Outback 2.5i and Toyota Rav4
(right?)
they still send her christmas cards for all the business
I like the outbacks too.. nice car
PB isn't na*** though. There are tropical drink in there
good choices pini
I liked my Saab but I think it still thought it had the 3 cylinder 2-cycle engine. The head gasket was going on it and it took a quart of oil with each fillup.
I'm kinda likin' the Rav4 'look' over the 'family' car look
...andy others I should consider?
check the mileage.. I think it is pretty good
rav 4,s are not bad,but would be my second choice
DOS
not sure
tres
quatro
*covering for BDG*
http://tinyurl.com/475yx6d
the Rav4 will hold 4 adults, it's a little tight with the 4 adults and a huge toddler car seat, but I've done it< Pini
i have driven an outback through 3 feet of snow and it just coasted along
My wife likes her CR-V.

Congratulations Book Doctor Gwen on fireworks!YAY
Goodbye wht! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log.
a superstition at the Indy raceway is that green cars are bad luck
RED promotes 'tickets'
AT,6/30 last one......help please
you mean the "Pull me over Red" Pini?
That's the one, Nef! LOL
actually, i read a statistic that shows that red cars don't get more tickets than other colors . . .
flash, it's a dumb word. a + tw5
figures, gwen...probably got the idea because it looks 'racey'
at6 = at + the pop fly fell be***** two outfielders

YAY, uusue!!! WTG!!! (Toatally mi**ed the fact you finished!)
When I op 4/5ed Babble,it took me ae 5/10 to finish, but I finally did so here's a story of clues for babblers starting an 4/8. It aw 4/8 me how some babblers can babble with ea4/4 sa4/4 list. I think that's so ne4/4. They blow me away with their talents and leave me in the du 4/6 using the list. Husband wants computer. I wish I could say no4/5 to him, however, need to give the husband computer or a na5/14 battle will en5/12 which is always mi4/5rable.He acts like such a si4/5! Hubby drives me insa4/4 with his Farmville addiction Computer games are always an is5/12 with us.Wish I had a computer that was just mi 4/5. I mi 4/5 those days of having 2 computers. Anway, I am going to go pe4/5 myself away from this and get out of my se4/4 and watch the ne 4/8 and goto bed. I hope the story helped just a teeny we 6/30 bit and you have se 4/4 some words or at least the easy on4/4. Goodnight all!
Thanks, Min! I love your stories!
yw and thanks
*wanders in and hugs Min* thanks Min! down under 20 thanks to you!
nef, the visiting nurse came and did a preliminary visit, he is getting a commode
I do think you need to get a 2nd computer though...
he fell in the bathroom today while I was out getting his meds, grrr
that's it? what about the shower?
good idea, the commode.
Oh, NO!
does he have one of those lifeline buzzer things he can wear around his neck if he falls when he is alone?
haven't tried the shower yet
Hello stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
he's ok but that convinced him about the commode
did he get up by himself? Did he harm his leg/hip?
nope, no lifeline and doesn't want one, sigh
yes, and no, nef, he was very lucky
you might need to be very firm with him. It needs to be a condition for being left alone.
sorry... that was too strongly worded.
that's ok, stid, I have a week before I go, and we'll just have to see.....
make a little purse type holder for a cordless phone then. (I us** a small sock and then had a circle -like a jar rim, only thin and in plastic- and tied a thin cord on it for DH))
(((sue))) it is so hard to deal with cantankerous people who are in denial about their limitations.
he has one of those, now he just has to keep the phone charged
that is good idea, Nef! *considers a similar contraption for personal use when working around the house*
it is. DH wouldn't use the life alert thing either "too expensive"; but my little phone carrier worked great and he did use it
anyway, it was just his first full day home; still a lot of learning for both of us
we have an alarm system for the house which has a button that can be pushed from the main panel to summon medical help. That system also had a separate button that one could get I think.
might be a good idea.
when we moved in and the boys were little my mama brain said, we're going to have medical emergencies... LOL fortunately we avoided some of the commoner ones (kids falling out of trees and off roofs)
for an elderly person living alone, having a button up high (even just 3 feet from the floor) would be impossible to reach if he fell and couldn't get up. It needs to be something he'd carry
that's true Nef, but was thinking it might be an intermediate stage.
LOL, stid! It was my daughter that would fall and break bones; not my son!
well, as long as he keeps his cell phone charged that should work.
DH's aunt Hazel had fallen and broke her hip at age 87. she laid on the floor for 3 hours before her sisters found her. She couldn't reach the phone on the table next toher and she couldn't tip the table to get it
that's true -- our home "walkaround" phones have two sets with chargers. So I generally keep one next to me when studying, while the other recharges.
is that the aunt who was with you for a while?
he already carries his cell phone in his shirt pocket (even pj's)
and we have 3 cordless phones with ours
if his cellphone works at home, that is a perfect solution.
nope, stid. That was her sister back in 2004.
dad actually has a 4-set portable home phone system
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow
niters, Min!
sweet dreams Min -- thanks again for the help. Down to 15 now!
yes, cell works fine at home, so that's good
uusue, that is perfect! :-)
night, min!
and going to spend some time with the bday boy again.
see you-all later. Sue, I know you will get things worked out. ((hugs)) *poof*
bye again, stid!
bye, stid!
when is the occupational therapist coming out, uusue?
dunno about occupational therapy, nef; the physical therapist is coming tomorrow or Friday, and the regular visiting nurse will be coming then as well
meanwhile I called and made an appointment with his eye doctor - he'd had cataract surgery less than 2 weeks before he fell, and is still getting all the post-surgery eye drops - never made it to the follow-up visit. So we'll go there on Friday as well.
ask for an OT. It really makes a big difference. An OT can do just a site visit and come up with more ideas than either a nurse or a PT. Their job is specific to finding environmental solutions so he can live alone safely
oh, my! he certainly is a handful right now! Bad timing!
good idea, nef, I'll do that before i leave. They did ask if he wanted a social worker to talk to about the separation/divorce, which he does not.
Indeed, nef! And if you go in hospital taking medications, they just keep you on them, so he's been doing these eye drops for quite a while now.
I'd really suggest that the sooner he has an OT visit, the better off he'd be. That was our experience with both my hubby and last year with his AUnt (she'd fallen and broke both wrists; ended up staying with us for 4 months
ok - I'm looking at the folder the visiting nurse left (they're the ones that coordinate all that). There's a nurse and a rehabilitation therapist listed on the front.
good. :-) I kow I'm nagging; but it will make your life easier knowing he's ready to be alone too
lots of little brochures...
yup.
fireworks! :-)
yay, nef!!!
thanks.
(I do like the fireworks. They were an added feature; and since they're in color, it's even cooler!)
ok, looks like the thing to do is talk to the nurse when she comes tomorrow (or Friday).
And now I am going to bed, as I am quite exhausted...
I'd probably give her a call tomorrow so the therapist could see if they could come out Friday. Sometimes their schedules fill completely up
ok, will do, Nef! And I am off!
good night and good luck, uusue!
good night and happy Babbling to anyone left! <poof!>
hey all.

Tim just drove home in snow..
says it's been white down the gorge
glad he made it home okay. The gorge can be scary in winter weather. My F-i-L used to drive the gorge every weekend when he was working in tri cities and living in Portland
Yes. it can be VERY scary.
Today on way to Astoria.. he was driving behind the snowplow up the sunset..
Today on way to Astoria.. he was driving behind the snowplow up the sunset..
that's a long drive!
yes. especially if weather is trecherous
that sunset highway is nice most of the time, hope he didn't have too much trouble?
well he got there and back!LOL
he just called and he's back in TD... at his work
LOL good.
and now he's home. gonna go talk to him! take care. get some rest!
they keep changing the forecast. it's getting really cold outside, so we know the roads will be very treacherous tomorrow morning, but it's not snowing here. My boys were counting on sno...
