hi marigold
I just placed an amazon order
and it took more than 30 minutes!
was it a big order?
Typical the day I am due to fly the pesky ash cloud reappears!!
Hello all
Hello, lynxxx.
Hi Haz and Spangle of course. I have just placed my first order with Book Depository - how cheap and no freight! (hoping you will not tell me anything bad about them)
No, I've no experience of them at all - and I hate when people start giving negatives straight away just to depress you!
Are they an Australian company or are the books being shipped from the States?
No UK company - probably 30% cheaper than anywhere else - !
Book Depository always makes me think of Dallas and JFK's assassination.
(read No - they are a UK company)
I hope they meet all your expectations. Have they given an estimated date of delivery?
I'm always amazed at how quickly I get things from Amazon, you'd think someone was just sitting waiting to post things off to me.
Didn't even look at the delivery timelines - am in no rush for them. Maybe you should compare their prices to Amazon - I did with a book Ken got, quite a bit cheaper
10 working days to Aust it seems
I'll have a look although I do still tend to buy books from bookshops (I can look through and see if it appeals). I've found amazon really good for ink cartridges which are a ridiculous price.
10 days sounds reasonable - hopefully this latest ash cloud from Iceland won't mess things around for you.
Ash cloud trouble again - still better than US tornados
A different volcano from last year has begun erupting and the ash is going to cause problems again. They're predicting that it won't be as bad as last time but already flights to and from Scotland and to and from here have been cancelled or delayed.
The pictures of Joplin are awful.
Obama flew over from Dublin to London ahead of schedule to make sure he wasn't delayed.
I don't think I want to look...just listening to radio is bad enough. Did I hear them say he had an irish grandparent? (came in on the end of the news item)
It's further back than that - great great great grandfather, I think. He left Ireland in the latter part of the 19th century.
and was a shoe maker. Morning/evening!
evening FM
Hello, FM.
Shoe maker is a noble profession. One of my ancestors was a shoe maker but never made his name like Jimmy Choo. Sadness.
Hi lynxx hope you are well. Hey Haz and Spangle! Did you see the part on the news where Obama's car got stuck on a ram as it is so low to the ground?
a ram? - a dead sheep on the road!
*ramp not an unfortunate male sheep :)
I saw it on the TV news - so funny and such a clunk as it stuck. Fortunately it was a spare one and the Obamas weren't in it.
Those wild sheep in Dublin are quite a problem.
Did you continue on with your family tree Haz?
They stopped the people keeping pigs in their kitchens but the pet lamb thing has remained.
lol
I got back to about 1800 or so, lynxxx and then ran out of time and patience with trying to decipher spidery writing on church records.
I should go back to it now that the Public Record Office has a brand new building with all sorts of bells and whistles.
Well done, that is as far back as I got and then ditto.
Programmes like 'Who do you think you are' make it look so easy, but it definitely isn't!
It might be if you had the teams of behind the scene people (with lots of experience) working for you.
The other problem is that my ancestors were all from really humble backgrounds so they're unlikely to have been noted anywhere other than on official records, and of course the further back you go the fewer of them there are.
Our Armed Forces have recently made WWI and (some) WW2 service records available online. My brother was very chuffed to read our grandfathers WWI service records - but know what you mean about deciphering writing
It is absolutely fascinating to look back and to try to put yourself in their shoes.
Where did your grandfather serve, lynxxx?
Actually saw the Jason Donovan Who Do You Think You Are program last Sunday...you were right, very interesting - and what a great lot of ancestors to be proud of
It was a great one, wasn't it? I wouldn't have expected half the detail that they found.
Think I missed that episode.
He was in the army - Europe/Egypt - but ended up joining the air wing - must have been early days of the air force - he seemed to stay in it after the war for a few years
How interesting lynxxx
It's worth seeing, FM - Jason Donovan and Kate Humble were two of the really special episodes.
running off to look at who Kate Humble is (bad on names)
The early days of the air force must have been amazing. It's not that it's ever 'safe' but goodness, when you see those planes and consider that they were firing at each other in the air...
Yes - recognise her face
Hi Everybody :-)
Kate Humble - British TV presenter, especially of nature programmes. She had more than her fair share of interesting ancestors.
Hello, Soodle.
morning Soodle
Here's where Soodle and I can compare Obama stories.
Hi Soodle.
LOL. I went into Dublin yesterday to see him. I was very impressed!
He has quite a presence, hasn't he?
brb
BBS Have to play with Stew, he hasn't had his eveing walk as it is raining so I am being yipped and yodelled at
He sure has. We are all VIP'ed out right now!
See you later, lynxxx. There's only so much yipping and yodelling any woman can take.
deer
Dammit. Been ages since I did that. Sorry.
I'm sure you're all feeling that bit more optimistic and cheered after the past few days. Exhausted, broke, but optimistic.
Absolutely, Haz. The National Spirit has been lifted...... now all we need is a serious cash injection!
You need to make friends with a few multi-millionaires if there are any of them left.
I think you can all feel very happy with how the visits went. I'm even tempted to visit Cork!
I'm looking for a millionaire for myself, first. If I happen to come across two, I will donate the second one to the country!
Have to be off, must get ready to go out. Happy Babbling.
The only sadness was Garret Fitzgerald's death - I always had a soft spot for him.
Nice to see you, FM - hope the day goes well.
Bye Mitch. Well, at least Dr Fitzgerald lived long enough to witness historic scenes. I'd say he died happy.
I hope so.
Back. Stew has sunk into depression ie sleeping (again)
Spangle sleeps a lot more these days as well.
Haz, any update on Princess Bea's hat? Have you seen this picture http://tiny.cc/osagj Hilarious!
She's not nearly as ke4 to go for walks as when she was younger but I suppose you have to make allowances for her age.
It went for £81,100 on e-bay - can you imagine having enough money to spend that amount on a hat? I know it's for charity, but all the same!
lovely girl, all curled up by the oven
It used to be that fetching the lead sent Spangle into circulations of delight. I get that reaction occasionally, but mostly it's a kind of resigned 'Oh well, if we must'.
How old is she again?
She's 10 and a half.
There's no arthritis or anything and once we get going she's fine - especially on the return journey! It's as if she just enjoys lazing about at home and pottering about at her own pace.
my be her form of retirement - sounds just like me
I used to get a bit frustrated but she's in good health and it just seems to be her slowing up. I can't expect puppy behaviour for ever, I suppose.
Now is the time to get a pup then..Spangle can train it in all her own good habits..and you will have a walking companion
My younger daughter keeps trying to persuade me to get a new pup as well!
I can't imagine not having a dog, I'm just not convinced that I want two at a time.
I've always wanted a golden cocker...
And it's okay, no need to whisper because Spangle is so deaf she'll not hear and be offended.
pretty
They're really pretty, I know.
especially the ones with eyelashes about and inch long
In the meantime, Spangle isn't too hard on the eyes either.
lol, talk about unfaithful. You should see me looking at the greyhound site, lol.
You're just keeping your options open.
If Jess ever leaves home, I would think seriously about getting another. It is a space thing more than anything else
(my hallway can take one large dog bed - but couldn't take 2)
I know - I have a friend who has two quite large dogs in a small house. I managed to persuade her not to get a mastiff for fear you wouldn't be able to get in the front door.
brrr...wondering why I a feeling cold tonight...it's only 10.5 c
You're heading into winter, I suppose. We thought we were heading towards summer and then it changed its mind.
We've had gales and heavy rain the past day or two. It seems to have calmed down now but it was funny to see the birds clinging onto the feeders yesterday as if their lives depended on it.
we had a wet Spring and mild Summer - maybe you are getting the same
It had been amazingly dry all through April and then May turned wet - however parts of England haven't had the rain we've had and they're looking at possible water restrictions. There seems to be a real north/south divide with the weather and we're on the rainy side of it. What's new?
just more extreme weather
Our winter was certainly extreme - we're counting the cost of the snow with lots of plants, even well established conifers, perishing. The garden centre people are happy!
The Chelsea Flower Show is on this week and as usual, the growers have put on an amazing show.
and there's the reason Spangle not wanting to go out! Is your husband totally converted into house dogs now..or will a new pup be outside?
Oh, she's sleeping inside all the time now.
I always watch Chelsea on the TV. Have you ever gone?
I've never been myself but love to see the coverage.
The colours are fabulous and while you probably get to see more on TV, I imagine the fragrance of the flower tents must be magical.
It's on my list of places I want to visit if only other people weren't there to crowd me out.
If you could bribe your way into the special night when all the celebs go, it would be great - no pushing and shoving.
G'mornin all. I just finished and I'm ready to help if n***ed
Hello, gramma - I'm okay but thanks for asking.
OK then I'll be off.
Have a good day, gramma.
lynxxx, do you get the BBC coverage of Chelsea?
Not sure - def a British program so I suppose it is
It usually has Alan Titchmarsh with various guest presenters doing spots.
That's probably how the BBC makes some of its money by selling on programmes to the rest of the world. The licence fee isn't enough and they're not allowed to advertise.
They would do well out of Australia then - lots on the cable channels and of course our ABC
And gardeners all over the world just love to be inspired, don't they?
Of course
Okay, time I was heading off. It's been lovely to chat, lynxxx. I miss the banter that used to happen. Things just aren't the same. Still, I'll speak to you again soon - bye for now!
Bye Haz, have a good day
And you - bye!
Good day to all. Is anyone lurking?
Come out, come out, wherever you are.
pssst. over here
OK Scrabs, you've rattled my cage enough times!!!!
*whispering* Hi Grant. And MM too.
Hello
I knew that I couldn't be alone here. I am almost halfway. Lots of vowels.
I'm down to 16 words
babblets aplenty
Go MM, go!
Good Morning Babblers!
hiya turtle
How have you been Movie?
Hi Red. So you're having surgery to repair your torn hip labrum?
Something like that scrabbs. he is going to reshape my acetabulum and look at the labrum.
fine thanks, turtle
Oddly, yesterday y pain went to 0. today its back to about a 2.
good Moovie!
Oh, so that is more serious surgery, having your acetabulum scooped out. What will be the recovery period?
well, I will be on crutches for 2 weeks, then reducing...and then...probably 6-8 weeks. the deformity is small, so I think I'll beup and at em sortly.
If the Labrum has damage...then longer.
And big incision?
No, they are doign it all arthroscopically. so three punctures.
Wow, that is wonderful.
Yes, its good, but...they have to essentially dislocate the hip to get at it, so it isn;t quite the easy recovery like a knee surgery with the scope... :(
It always sucks to ne4 surgery yet surgery can fix problems.
I hope there is a nice big problem, the MRI was fairly inconclusive but I have had pain for so long, and then yesterday voila, it was gone for almost all day!
I mena, i will be very annoyed if I get intubated and go through all this and find out there is nothing in there... you know what I mean?
Yes, I understand. That happened to my nephew--injured shoulder when hit head on by another teen. Things looked ok but the orthopod tightened the labrum.
He still occ has pain and it is 28 mo later.
yes the full recovery for the surgery is projected at 18 months.
What activities will be permitted?
I'll be on the bike by friday, and swimming when they take the stitches out, and I think running short distances in about 3-4 months.
Oh, that's good. It would suck to get deconditioned.
thanks for listening to me scrabbler.
Yeah, my coach has been planning some special workouts.
they say it just improvems over the 18 months, andI can see that..when my hand was broken in the end it did take about 2 years to really "forget" it had been broken.
I have had my share of sports injuries as well as 4 abd/pelvic surgeries from '98-'03.
My biggest fear is that I can not take narcotics and I may (probably) will have some serious pain.
The longest recoveries with herniated disks and sciatica--3 episodes in my life--excruciating pain.
funny thing is my friend is having her Gall Bladder out today, so her daughter (also a nurse) is going to camp us out and we will be recovery pals!
I hate opiates--make me puke--so I always requested Toradol.
I have to take Naprosyn to inhibit bone growth..
What day is your surgery?
Did you have surgery on the herniated discs?? that seems to be a difficult surgery.
It is this Thursday!
Nope---I never want back surgery.
I'm going to work one more part of a shift today.
Well, good luck!
yeah, I see more people with failed back surgery.
Is it at the hospital you work at?
OK, so I see Little one is hopefully on the mend???
yes it is, so I get to be nude for my colleagues!
Yes, she started dexamethasone yest in prep for extubation today. PEEP was down to 6. I hope she makes it. It will be a huge step!
Red, for 2 of my surgeries I had 3rd yr med students do my H & Ps and be in on surgery. I gave them a perfect hx and made it so easy for them.
Red, we've se4 enough bodies to no longer care about nakedness anymore.
Oh I know, but you know how comments get made when people are out of it. I know I've made a few...
We have no residents. I do have confidence in the surgeon.
I'm excited for her to get off the vent.
Yikes, it's 0735! I have to do sports PEs at the local HS at 8. So use a marker and place a silly msg or pic on your abd!
I took care of a 19 yr old with downs yesterday and I thought of you.
See you later!!!
I just adore kids with DS--so special and cute.
I should go get ready for my part day at work too!
Bye!

Happy Tuesday, Babble buds.
"Sue and UUSue" *Wonders if Sue has multiple personalities*
Hey there Judi.
word of the day: imbriferous. Rainy, showery, rain-bearing, auguring rain. From alphadictionary.com which will email you a new word every day. I like this site because there are often words I don't know (unlike most other word-of-the-day sites).
let's see, mom, physicist, teacher, musician, lover, wordie, puzzler, do I have enough personalities yet? Of course they are all very sweet all the time (NOT!) :-)
and hi, judi!
Yeah, and I can just see the looks I would get if I blurted out "What an imbriferous day!"
Hello everybody :-)
Musician? I know you sing, do you play as well?
Salutations Soodle.
Hi Soodle, back in Ireland? How was the Queen's visit?
hi, soodle!
Back home again, Bichon. The Queen's visit was marvelous, and Mr O'Bama's visit was equally marvelous. I saw him in Dublin yesterday. Very impressive!
Morning all. Todays grid is filled with babblets
Ireland always is so nice to people [from my visit]
You're welcome to keep Obama, Soodle.
What Judi said.
Aw, thank you Bichon :-).
molly, I studied piano and organ when I was in school (all through elementary, junior, high school, college, and my first year of graduate school). Haven't played much since then, though, and was never concert material. I also play recorder (again, though, not for a while)
morning, bea!
Our Sue, a woman of many talents.
and hi, bichon!
Multi-talented!
soodle, my SO's last name is O'Barski (really!) - he says it's the Irish side of Poland. :-)
LOL, Sue. I never heard that name before. But Ireland/Poland is a good combo!
ok, gotta run, all day workshop again today. See you all later!
Bye Sue!
Fireworks
Happy to hang and clue if anyone needs it!

Hi does anyone know of a list today please?
Lickety is up.
Oh. Ok. Thanks.
good morning everyone:)
morning crossy
howdy carlee:)
whats new ur way crossy
same ole same ole...nice day today though 12c and sunny
was sunny here..now clouded over
am stuck at work with NOTHING to do
that is the blessing of babble.nothing like getting paid to do it
at least you do not have to sit there with a 9 pound sledge hammer and turn big rocks into little rocks simply cause there is nothing to do and the boss just created make-work in the interm:)
true enough
i do have stuff ic ould be doing..but i have the whole week and it is one day's worth of work )
i had that happen in past profession
ty Krysten
if you are in office setting digitalize everything:) have everything all on flash keys..find anything in seconds;) that will keep you busy
scan every single printed page that must be kept and store it on disk or flash:))
then you can amaze the boss and find anything in moments
mornin babblers
howdy eva
how goes it, crossy?
e3
d3
same ole same old..but nice and sunny and 12c;)
its a legal office..u cant crossy..u need paper..digital can be modified
paper is proof
:(
hi eva
( even a greeting card is kept..cus one day a client may say u were the shittiest lawyer ever...but if u have a greeting card in the file that says the client thins u were fab.... u can cover ur ass)
thats what we need next, a disk or flash key that once a paper is scanned to it can only be copied not digitally altered or erased
hi carlee
lol carlee
hi eva :)
( its true... my boss has had to do that )
there are dvd RAM disks that are used in the music business for long term storage, but alas they are not secure enough
you CAN password and encrypt a disk or key...
mm this bears some thinking...
well anyways time for my tea, meds and crossy,s tidbit of the day!....
The first seven Presidents were not born in the United States of America. They were born in colonies that later becames states. To be eligible to become President of the United States, a person must be a natural-born citizen of the United States and have been a permanent resident in the United States for at least 14 years. This could not be avoided with the first seven Presidents.
that is for all the birther conspiracy people:)
my tidbit..i find it very interesting that obama has left USA for GB whilst the prime miniter of his closest ME ally is in USA
and you guys are not gonna let donald actually run are you? lol..would be funny if mr hair weave 1985 became a serious contender
donald not running thank god...it was just publicity for him anyway
ahh good then
crossy wants to find some Russian tea glasses
i find it very intersting how the media grabs on to some seriously obscure nothing..and beats it to death...if they would let crap lie....crap would not be flung aout making messes
ebay
i have a set of cheap ones
i loved the obama speech he gave to everyone on the birth issue he was scoling everyone like a father who,s kids are having a war over a stupid toy whule he has grown up things to take care of..was great!
scolding
and days later he gets ossama taken out..big things indeed
i liked how he is in ireland looking for his missing " ' " in O'bama
cracked me up
0_o
i guess his great grandfather is irish
when he was just running for office, around st pattys day, all the obama supporters wore green + white shirts htat said "O'Bama for President" hehe
ahh ok lol
it is his great-great-great-grandfather
meeting time here. back in a bit. :)
well..once its great..i lose track
from here it looks like he is doing a good job of it so far
i agree... to bad we cant vote :p
our pm is a di** wad lol
i cant complain..i didnt vote..i COULDNT vote
i love the woman who is our mp...but she a conservative...
he looks and acts like a slimy used car salesman to me anyways.all photo ops and will only aswer 5 questuons to media at a time4 in generaL and one to local press..stypid
the 3 running green, ndp andliberal..had the combined intelligence of a dried up earthworm
i want to go up to him and muss his hair
lol
mind i'd get my fingers stuck
so..i could NOT in good conscience vote...
there was only the one viable candidate here...just wrong party
that was teh very first time since i turned 18 that i did not vote
i also did not vote this year
they say if ever candidate is garbage you should still go in,but spoil your vote'
one year i wrote "none of the above" on my balloot
ballot
one year i voted for the green party
store run and chores,back in a while...poink!
I have twice voted Communist, and once, Marxist-Leninist - the Rhinoceros Party died too soon!
hello hello everyone
hi annie
Hi Annie
Hi Molly, just came back from the car mechanic, going to be expensive, my brakes, etc are shot
Aw, sorry to hear that Annie. How old is your car?
ancient, 13 years old...Ford Taurus
I can relate. I just got rid of a 12 year old car myself. Not worth investing any more money into.
the mechanic said it was worth doing and I trust him but I think this will be the last big expense. $933.00 iis the amount. Said a lot has to be done.
hi all
hello jmc
too bad about the car. i tend to drive them into the ground and then donate them to the kidney foundation (they were very nice and helpful with my hubby)
hi and nbt
jmc, that is what I am going to do...after this the car will be donated when it ne5 more expensive work

ae I mean
anyone want clues before I move on?
Hello, Becca.
24 to go, gotta go, byeeeeeee
are you looking for a clue kap?
bye gwen
sure, why not.
is it a 4?
ae 5/12: sounds like fatal STD
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
fatal std?
sexually transmitted disease
i know- but I am slow today and can't think which disease.
the one that milllions around the world are dying from
HIV
liz taylor did loads of work on it for charity...
syphillis has too many letters
Or ae plus little Bishop Tutu.
the std clue was a bit tortured.
thank you haz.
sorry!
You're welcome, but everybody sees clues/words differently.
'that's OK. i'm just tired today
guess I will be on my way - back at the flip :)
Bye cybernan.
Is anyone else getting a "cut off" chat box? Is someone's icon too big?
lilliann loaded a GIANT pic of her cat yesterday . . . :-)
It was Kaplan's HMMMMM that has done something. It'll work itself out eventually.
oh, i see, yeah, t's the hmmmmmmmmmm
Oh duh, I should have noticed that. Thanks Haz.
There's probably some technical reason for it but don't look to me for explanations.
Certain areas of a web page are only constructed for certain dimensions. Type doesn't usually cause a problem for that but pictures notoriously do.
back
hi haz
hi une

hi, all. some of you know I had surgery (day surgeryZ)Z about two weeks ago I called the hospital this morning, and they told me the total cost was over $20k USD
( and this is why I am greatful i live in canada ) Hi angel..hope you are feeling well :)
grateful even*
I am ok; battling bronchitis at the moment, thanks to the tub they put down my throat during the surgery
ugh... am sorry
yikes angel!
is insurance covering most of that?
doest his mean you now owe 20K or ins coverieng it ?
thankfully, I have good insurance.
Whew!
thank goodnessf or that
for* even..i cant type today
When I had my knees replaced it was over $80,000 when all was said and done.
I hate to think what the bill woud have been for a serious illness
The cost of being in the ICU is about $10,000 per day.
i used to hire a nurse to go over the final bills of the elderly who's estates i handled because i would more than pay for her fee with duplicate and unneed costs
There are lots of costly mistakes in hospital bills. Everybody should audit their bills if they can. You can ask the hospital to itemize things like OR charges and pharmacy items that are lumped into one charge.
in one case they had charged this comatose elderly guy with IV fluids that amounted to 3 times what anyone could handle and then 10 diapers a day. you cannot convince me that the nurses changed his diapers 10 times a day.
but the nurse wrote them and said that it was little wonder he needed so many diapers since they were giving him so much fluid--they ended up writing off the bill
hi Gail .... and all :-]
