our one dollar coin is a loonie, and our 2 dollar coin is a toonie...
ty dee -- nbt, nbs
ty dee -- your monkeys speak their own language, I guess!
interesting didn't know that jili
wtg nan
the reason is that there is a picture of a loon on the one dollar coin
is that the country's official bird?
I still think henge is a word --- you see them all over northern Europe
no -- our bird is the American Goose
;)
I wonder why the loon is on the money then... interesting
do we have an official bird???
not that I know, jill
someone drew a nice picture I think, dee
you'd think the Canada goose - I'm not sure I've ever seen an American goose. I'll have to go google it.
interesting
We have various animals on our coins, dee -- on the reverse. The Queen is on the "front".
sure you have -- it's grey with a black neck and head and it is to be found all over the US golf courses
it has been a very very long time since I have seen Canadian money. Interesting... I didn't know we had a goose...also thought it was Canadian.
There was a story that there was another design for the dollar, but the first lot fell off a truck so the loon won out.
nope -- we have divorced it and given it to the Americans
be 6/30 fun word
lol
nan is pulling your legs -- it's the infamous Canada Goose all over golf courses.
ha ha - here's the American Goose http://www.urbandictionary.com/define. php?term=American%20Goose
See nan at 12:24, lol!
too funny rasta
nan, we are all north americans......... :)
not when it comes to that goose!
American Goose The act of showing someone your middle finger, or, flipping the bird.
oh..............
that stinks
6's done
that's from the Urban Dictionary
odd bh 5/16 word, too
I'm campaigning for a local rule on our golf course -- free drop if you have to hit our of or stand in the sh**.
btw, I agree that henge is a word -- see Stonehenge among others
good luck with that one nan
I guess Tiger could use that one right now
lol jill

stats for the O in 3rd and 4th col?
I'm so disappointed about tomorrow. An old friend (one of my bridesmaids) phoned from Montreal the day before yesterday to say she would be in Victoria on Friday and wanted to meet for lunch. I had a haircut appt at 2 pm Friday but changed ti to today so I could go. She was supposed to phone today at about 5 pm or leave a message with her phone number if I was out. No phone call -- no message, and it's 10:38 pm now. So I guess lunch is out, and it was the only possible day. I haven't seen her in 11 years. :-(
maybe she will call you in the morning?
maybe she is just assuming you will be going and will call tomorrow
my 6's are be, oo and to x2 anyone have the other 2
ah jilli, hope she calls early enough for you to meet her
oo 6/3 or 5
I have a po6
I have same as you diz... still missing 2 sixes
ty dee

po 6
nbt/nbs
But I don't know where we're supposed to meet and she talked about 11:30 am -- hard to make it with our ferries. I'm NOT an early riser!
wtg cos ty for the po 6
thanks broll, got the po6
ty for po 6
that would be frustrating
wtg cos
the last 6 has to start with an a, c, h, or t
not a - I have them both
if she calls, perhaps she could come to SS, jilli
Clues are up
thanks lickety
ty lickety

lol ty arb just found it!!
missing one to6.... ty all for the other 6's
ty 6's done
6's done.
flosey, I did suggest that before. I hope she doesn't call at 6 am (9 am Montreal time!)
Oh Lickety, thank you!
ugh!
Thanks lickety
I mean, even though she'll be in Victoria, she'll be jet-lagged...
so she's flying here tomorrow morning?
that would be a bit of a push
No, flosey, she was supposed to be here this afternoon and phone me at 5 pm from the hotel in Victoria, but she never did.
And there are othr people involved -- I was supposed to meet them in Victoria somewhere -- she didn't know where or what hotel she would be in. It's all about a wedding.
ah, well, do hope you'll be able to meet with her, or at least have a nice phone chat, after such a long time
I was really looking forward to seeing her :-(
has anyone found the bh word?
b + noise owl makes
fireworks
ty dee and whee for you!
yw
anyone else need any help?
I still need that pesky Y for nbt
well all I am poofing til the flp; hope your friend reaches you jili; have a great day / eve all

rasta - maybe get creative with the first name of a famous resident of Jellystone
Ah! ty Griff
omg griff! I got it!
nbt nbs
way to go BooBoo
wtg jilli
is be6 a normal word?
The meaning of that Y word -- from the Urban Dictionary: White kids who act like they are black gangster rappers. Less offense form of wigger. Comes from the common greeting often used 'Y* ***'. (No def otherwise)
thanks jilli, wondered what it was
it is kind of a compound word flosey
(if there is only one)
thanks Bugsy
tyty got it
hi bugs
There is only one Y word -- bugs, Lickety is up, in case you missed that
must get to bed, very tired from busy day in Victoria
Hi Jilli. I hope you connect with your friend. I would just plan to get up early enough to get to Victoria by 11:30 because she will probably phone tomorrow.
29 words to get tomorrow
what were you doing there, flsoey? You go there a lot, it seems
I know LIckety is up but I try not to open it until I am half way
unsuccessful clothes shopping, had a coffee delivery to make, bit of other shopping, picked up 2 boxes of blueberries from the farm, will freeze them tomorrow
PS my icon is a clue if anyone wants it
I must be off to bed too. Nite all
oh, ok -- and if my friend phones tomorrow I'm sure it will be early enough -- she knows the ferry only runs every 2 hours and it takes me at least a half hour to get there -- usually more so as not to miss it because of being in line.
night bugs
Thanks for the clue, bugs (haven't got it yet -- any hint as to the starting letters?) -- and goodnight
poof
gnight flosey

here some more for you to play with - Henry 5th of England ordered every household in Britain to keep several large birds so that the archers would never run ouit of arrows - and he ordered 30000 birds to be killed to supply the feathers used on the arrows in the battle of Agincourt - should be something for you to fly with there...
well.. I'll be plucked

He is seriously talented, stid -- does heplan to go pro?
that's really great stid.. to see your own kid doing something they love and doing it well is really heart warming
I don't know jill -- I know that he has the talent, as a dancer, a singer, a low brass player (equally good on tuba or trombone)... he just loves to perform.
gee I wonder where he got that from????
I think he has a future in this if he wishes.
I think from Tom, ruru...
and then, that rascal! *shakes head* while I was off showing some new friends around the city he and his friend CLEANED THE KITCHEN, and then BAKED a cake AND a pie!!!!! *faint*

not being mean to Ethiopians btw... it is important to do what we can for them... rather than watch London burning or stockmarket crashes (Bono)
his heart is in the right place
I can't believe what I am seeing in England by the way.
who's heart west?
I watched the PM on CSpan tonight
bono's ruru
it is just revolting in England
oh.
I like U2
me2
I hate to see senseless damage and ruin
we've had plenty here in California..
I agree ruru
U2 has been the best performers ever at a superbowl by the way.. amazing
what do they think they'll accomplish
I don't think anything west.. I just hope innocent people aren't hurt.. it looks really scary
so damned senseless
one of the mp's said they should round them up and put them in Wembley Stadium..Cameron said no let's keep that for games and concerts
good morning
hi ruby how are things in France?
nice and quiet! My son was in a U2 tribute band for 3 years in Austin
and great weather here, lucky us
is everybody melting down in the US? Son's had over 100F every day for weeks; he's going a little crazy (like mother, like son)
it's actually pretty cool here right now..we've had some hot weather but nothing like TX
texas is hard hit.. 43 days of 100 + in a row
good for him ruby how is his new career doing?
at least, for the moment, the fires have stopped.
maybe it will cool off when all the hot air leaves the state to campaign
he's playing a lot. There's a picture of him in my FB with one of his bands; he's the white guy on the left
haha Orange Jefferson (yes, really) is about my age!
maybe you can post it in your profile sometime..don't do FB
we lived in Beeville TX for about 7 months I was never so hot in my life
half way between Corpus and San Antonio
I don't think I know how....can't even change my icon (or put it in in the first place!)
were you there in March? The wildflowers are fantastic around San Antonio
someday ruby someday lol
we were there from June to Feb
only made it to SA one time
arrived pregnant and left with a 3 month old
what did you do in TX,
hubby was in flight training
I played a lot of bridge
could you get close enough to the table?
always wanted to go to Austin have 2 cousins there..
haha a lot of us were in the same boat
Austin is wonderful, except for the weather! But I'm sure it's greatly changed since you were there
great restaurants -- even a fine sushi bar
but I have to admit it was one of the friendliest places we've ever lived
and son lives on the greenbelt, directly over a ravine
when will they be coming back to visit?
they come to Fr once or twice a year, since son and wife are both techies,m they always sort out my computer
once or twice*
eyes are blurry this AM, sorry for repetitions
pace
peace
hope
sorry, on phone at same time.....is there coffee in the pb
oh oh ruby
I can make some lol
had them all anyway
how's the new girl working out?
she started Monday and is wonderful! And she found my wedding ring, which had been missing since January, when she was "deep cleaning" the washing machine
that is great !!
I need her to come here..we have a black hole things disappear into
I am so happy about the ring
I would be too
was DH happy as well?
I never really liked the ring much as it looks like what a mafia don would wear on his pinky, but still....
I hadn't told him for months when it disappeared but when I did tell, he wasn't even angry
I don't understand men!
maybe he had plans to replace it
phantom: apogee
hah welcome to the club
I hope not
do you think you left it in a pocket?
first rule of laundry..always check the pockets
I left it in a pocket and then washed the pants I guess. I was afraid that former cleaning lady had thrown it away. We went through the trash, the vacuum, looked everywhere for it, except the one spot "Luisa" pried open
husband was in hospital at the time and I was in a state!
that's right bet you're glad all that is behind you now
but now the fridge is dying....always something in a house!
oh too bad..just a replaceable part I hope
maybe Luisa can fix it..she sounds like a gem ( no pun intended)
hahah
she actually sings while she works and says she is "ravie" to work here. I am so lucky
you really hit the jackpot
and she's young enough that she'll stay a while, hopefully, AND she lives in the same village
fantastic..how did you find her?
I have a wonderful neighbor who, although a terrible gossip, is very helpful and branchee! She found the other one, too, and has helped me a lot. I was so grateful this time, that I gave her 4 textile designs I had done in the 70's, colored ink renderings of patchwork designs, because she teaches a patchwork course
have you any clues for the co6,27
they just re-emerged from the morass of "stuff" in my studio after many years of being tucked away

thank you haz
You're welcome.
yes carlee I did know about the dinners sounds like a lot of work and a lot of fun
I have missed seeing you here haz wedding all done?
Yes, wedding was last week. I've babbled every day, not chatted.

gm
hi kje
is any one up?
unfortunately, yes
yeah, wish i could sleep too. good morning kje
gm
good morning. I'm sleepless. How're yall doing?
ditto
sorry to hear that, kje. gonna make for a long Friday for us both, i'm guessing
yep
I was just listening to the starland vocal band o youtube
for some reaso afternoon delight popped int my head and I wondered if they did anythig else... I must say after listenig to about 8, the answer is no
They had one album, and that was the runaway single. They were from DC, Georgetown specifically, which is why that video is on the C&O Canal at Jefferson St
less you find the album, you'd think that song was it.
ah, did not know that
def oe hit wonders
totally
i remember singig that song i the 5th and 6th grade... clearly no idea what the heck it was about
LOL
and fw!
congrats, kje
looking pretty hippie-ish there dc!
yeah, longest it's been since '93. Need to call Fatima and get it cut. :)
I thought maybe you were having your own 70s flashback ; )
i was four and a half before i had a haircut; my hair was very slow to grow in when i was young. In this photo, it's not been cut since October
wow!
can you do the ponytail look yet?
oh yes, for some time now, but it's rather curly, so some side bits need bobby-pinned
I thik you could pull off the ponytail hip-old-guy thing... trim up the beard and put on a black turtleeck... totally doable
maybe a beanie too
yeah, i'm thinking i'll hold off to wearing it this long til it's gone all white, though
it isn't even 1/2 white yet! that will be awhile
beanies actually suit me; i have a couple
I can see that... def a look you could pull off
no, it's approaching 1/4, and i expect it'll be mostly white in the next decade.
the white in my beard has all appeared in the last 3 years. discovered that looking at pictures
wow, wouldn't have any guessed a 1/4 from those pics... looks really dark still
beard was white enough 2 years ago for my classmates to mock me at reunion
you have a good gray though... should be pretty. As a dirty blond, I am not goig to have pretty gray hair
my grandfather was a dirty blond. his turned yellow then white.
my sister's is lightening like mine, but hers being dirty blond, it's less visible.
my dad did too... but he called it his silver and gold
i was kinda hoping for steely gray like dad's family, but i got mom's hair :)
it will look good dc... you will age handsomely... be thankful!
thank you, here's hoping :)
I am going to try to catch a few more winks.. hagd!
good luck, and you too
good afternoon all
hi, sprite :)
hi dcseain
i kindly pointed out to a friend that i got my first bifocals at 12 after she complained that she needed bifocals now at 40. One of her sisters told her to suck it up cause she's worn them since 28. Kindly lot, eh?
I guess it is different for all
how're you today? I'm weirdly perky for not having slept.
oh, yes life's always a bit different for each
I slept well and am fine, thanks
read anything interesting lately?
am rereading Jane Eyre atm
oh, lovely read that.
is that a cookie in your icon?
yes, speculaas
interesting looking. chocolat and ?
no chocolate. Spiced dutch cook.
yum.
Mmm Dutch cookie time, my dad use to make those and ole Bol en(sp),
Bollen :) Hi chic, some dutch recipes are really good, aren't they
oliebollen, is the spelling
oil balls? Is it a fried dough then?
That was a long time ago and delicious
yes they are fried
tasty memories, chic :)
Yes dc with apples
with apples they are called appelflappen. Oliebollen are plain or with raisins.
traditional New Year's Eve treats
My dad was a baker one time ago at the Waldorf Astoria hotel
oh wow, he must have been really good then
You had me fooled Sprite. I thought your icon was some sort of chocolate cookie with peanut butter chips in it. I've always imagined oliebollen as looking like fried dough balls.
Wed go meet him there sometimes that was fun
lol, error all over. My icon are piano keys. Yesterday's icon was one of my favorite treats, Speculaas koek, a Dutch spiced cook without any chocolate or peanut butter, but with dutch spices. And from the dutch treats the convo went on to oliebollen and appelflappen, other dutch specialty treats.
At least my long turn memory is somewhat in tact; short term is shot
*Goes for more coffee*
but those are good memories, chic, worth a thousands short term ones.
*entreats molly to bring her some too*
I'd say so sprite
*Places steaming cup of fresh ground in front of Sprite*
Later peeps
oh Molly you are a life saver :) Thanks.
later chic, have a good one
Thanks for the visit down memory lane
:) It was nice to travel together
Sweet, you are
*grins* as sweet as speculaas
Lol
could you send me an email, chic? I can send you some speculaas.
fireflies. Small grid, but still interesting. Bye all, have a good one.
congrats, sprite
good morning everyone
*sniffles* everyone is gone
hi River - I'm here - in and out, working the grid and chatting on another site :)
I'm here with 8 left and a day ahead of me...
still don't have the middle o for NBT though
hello jbv - tough little grid after the first half - 31 to go and stuck - guess I will have to list
hello Kaplan
dont have that O either
or the bottom O
I'm trying to prepare for an interview in Italian with the chairman of the Italian Dept. at the University to get his permission to audit a course!
Hello. No list yet but I will later...might as well finish
I wish you luck JBV - that is impressive
thanks, River, - I know I want to take a literature course and I think they will probably want me to take a placement test - we'll see....
bottom o -- think bug spray (or tennis socks!!)
i agree with river -- wow, very impressive, jbv!!
try oo6.30 for the middle one and or5.12 for the bottom. Hello all
not impressive, yet, but thanks - I'll let you know later how it worked out
got the bottom - thanks
please do
and hello Une and lynxxx
lynxxx, love your sweet dog icon :-)
morning, river :-)
happy Friday and good morning
the very first thing you have to know about an interview with an Italian (even in the states) is that it doesn't hurt to have a "raccomandazione" - a personal contact to make the introduction, which fortunately I have
TY Une, love him too
(((Mom))) good morning
(((River))) good morning
hi Mom and lynxxx
good morning JBV
hi Mom
good evening ((Lynxxx)) Do you have the knitting needles working this winter?
hey, mom! :-)
((Une)) good morning
certainly do Mom - kept my hands very warm - and my knees!
say, mom, how nice was it to walk outside this morning and not get hit by tropical heat and humidity!? WOW!
pretty bad, eh? Up here we are in the mid-60's
no, GOOD! NO heat and humidity --at least for now!
here to - what a nice morning - no humidity
Lynxxx, I bet it does. I am crocheting a shaw for my daughter-in-law and it is 53% wool and it is quite warm to work on it
ok, gotta get dressed and go pick up donated food -- BBL! *poof*
Not for a while, Une. Storms over the weekend and then warmer next week
bye bye ((Une)) take care
bye Une
bye Une
bye Une
are you having a very cold winter lynxxx?
It used to be that it was quite hard to get pure wool in the States - is that still the case Mom?
it is still available at some of the finer knit shops but it will cost a pretty penny
morning, all!
I love wool - and hand made hats, scarves, mittens - what a treat - whoever you are knitting for is very lucky
Much cooler (and thankfully wetter) than last year...though we have had record warm days this month. Scary - hope we don't get your Summer temps
Hi Sue
hello sue
good morning Uusue
hi sue
this has been a record breaking warm summer
hi, lynxxx, mom, river!
and hi to JBV too!!
been very warm this summer by us also, with weird rain patterns (very dry punctuated by torrents)
Mom- you may care to look at our Bendigo Woollen Mills - I believe they ship Internationally - not sure what freight works out to be. Prices are excellent - I buy all my wools from here unless I want something special
oh I will do that Lynxxx, thank you and I will share with my knitting and crocheting friends. If freight isn't too bad we could combine our orders.
we have salami in the grid today
??
ooh, and it's actually a word!
thx, river!
COlumbus's port
the knitting and crocheting group at the library, not you and me
must be a US brand of salami
I think it's a type of salami rather than a brand but it may be US-specific
thanks River
it must be - I have heard of ge*** cake but not salami
however according to the dictionary it is a type of sail
oh dear a salami cake. :-)
and in Italy they would have no idea what it means :)
lol
If nothing else, Lynxxx, it would be a great gift for Christmas for my friends. Unique and nothing like that here
Good Friday morning, Babblers!
and a film star in the grid too
hello judi
Pity the Aust $ will be high for you Mom
time for me to get started - have fun everyone, see you later

what do you mean sometimes vowel
btw, concepta, I see that you are spending part of your time in Switzerland - I lived in Geneva for a year (and commuted for several years after that) and really love Switzerland
Aaron, there is a letter that is sometimes a vowel and sometimes a consonant - that one
Here in CRans Montana ....did u ever ski there? Golf open on soon also
or as the ditty has it, the vowels are a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes ...
LOVE s
any clues for he4,6 not the one that can mean pile

LOVE Switzerland...... the mountains...the villages.....
aaron, the other he4/6 makes it thound like you are lithping

well, crap.
yea...crap... so i have some calls in to find other funding..
that makes no sense - you can't get a degree in 3 years, it takes 4 - what are they thinking???
but the term starts in 3 weeks...
and i still ahve to pick courses etc
diploma in 3 year...in community college
so any technician courses... technologist is 4

(((RUBY)))
hi again ruby
66 words this morning and dinner is cooking -- roast/stuffed chicken, sweet potatoes and creamed spinach. How bad is that?
{{crossy}}
Ruby! The bird you abandoned in your yard is in the grid. : D
and I make my Thanksgiving stuffing for ordinary chickens -- why not?
looking for it, molly.....
i do too ruby
i do the same ruby.will often stuff a reg chicken with a nice sausage stuffing made with cornbread
bird????
why wait 'til holidays?
i did a full turkey dinner last night ruby...
(can't find molly's bird)
stuffing cranberries gravy veggies...
Ruby, the one you put out in the yard instead of in the fridge.
it is vbery hard to find decent-sized turkeys here. The French only eat them at Christmas and then it's considered "premium" and is tres expensive
hi, ruby! Your dinner sounds delicious :-)
so I make capons for us
if i do a off season whole turkey,i will amke several freezer meals and turkey pot pies and freeze up some turkey stew as well
there's plenty, c'mon over!
Yes that's it Ruby. Goodies in the PB.
the turkey farmers just had a kill and there will be one more before thanksgiving.... they packaged and froze their turkeys...but the utilities that just take up storage were on sale 2 weeks ago....no one wants utility birds at thanksgiving
its ok ruby, crossy has french toast and crepes in the pb
hmmm, I have a bird in my list but it's the Hawaiian goose - ah, just saw molly's clue to ruby's post, thx to all! :-)
in order to get an 18 lb turkey, we used to go to Geneva and pay about $125. For the kind of turkey they give away in the US
lol,i had rubys bird but was missing the goose ty:)
raise ur own :p
<---- was thinking it is pretty early for Thanksgiving turkeys, but then remembered that Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, but it still seems early
(do I feel stupid, or what?)
mm nothing like seeing to your own killing and doing it up yerself
good afternoon everybody
howdy glant
hello glanta; I haven't seen you for a long time
hi, glant!
they had 1 kill....there will be one more...but the next kill will be for mostly fresh not frozen birds
I have been away for a couple of weeks, my father died :-(
am sooo sorry glan...
but it was a good death amd a release
oh, so sorry, glanta
oh no, glant!!!! I am so sorry to hear that!!!!!!!
nothing wrong with utilty birds
{{glanta}}
i am sorry for your loss glant
I have learnt how to organise a funeral and sort out all the paperwork involved with somebody dying
ok..i gotta go... sorry
bye carlee
bye, carlee!
(((Glant))) very sorry about your Dad.
not fun things to learn, glant
they are very helpfull.my fil passed early this summer
{{{{{{glantarell}}}}}}
and my 77 year old mum now has plans to take up painting again, and travel - things she has been unable to do for the last 4 years - my father had alzheimers
ah, well, good for her, glant!
I was lucky because my parents arranged everything way in advance.....
that is a tough road indeed((((glants mum))))
{{glanta's mum}}
how many words do you have, crossy?
We got otgether nd planned an atypical funeral, then I sorted it out - he arrived to the sound of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band and Wityh a little help form my friends, and the service ended with Morecambe and Wise singing ' Bring Me Sunshine'
It has been a VERY tough road indeed for my mum
that sounds like a great funeral!
oh, glant, that is so cool! I think it is wonderful when a funeral is really a reflection of the person.
It sounds irreverent, but so was he - in a gentlemanly way
Alzheimer's is much worse for the spouse than for the sick person
we planned it as a celebration of his life
only 34 ruby..i am just getting rolling
what's wrong with irreverent
when the curtains closed around the coffin we had the end of the 1812 overture - with the bells and cannons blasting out
I'm sure you'll catch up with me and surpass, crossy
yes, in my tradition we call it a celebration of life rather than a funeral
I love the idea of the 1812 overture, what a send off!
i love it glant.i much prefer a celebration of life over weeping and gnashing of teeth well done and a great way to honor your da
you will laugh - we found a fabulous coffin - bright blue, made from recycled newsprint - but it turned out to cost a fortune (£660) so I bought a wicker one off EBay!
£250
I love the idea of a coffin from eBay!!! How cool is that?
very nice indeed
way cool!
If you look up Morecambe and Wise on YouTube, and find Bring Me Sunshine, you will see them doing a little dance as they leave the stage - my daughter and I did the dance as we led the funeral procession out of the ceremony
i have made arrangement for me to be cremeated and my ashed spread over algonquin provincial park when my time comes
it made everybody laugh, which was what we wanted - my dad loved laughter
my father's ashes are in a wildlife area on a Welsh hill, where the buzzards and red kites soar overhead
that is really wonderful, glanta! I'll have my husband cremated, no funeral, and will put his ashes next to his beloved dog in the garden
nice, glant
his home of the last 20 years was on top of a Welsh hill, where the buzzards and kites soar, so we thought it fitting
sounds perfect
did you know that the Farsis put their dead ones on top of a hill and the buzzards take care of the bodies?
I had a Farsi friend from Bombay who told me that
our first nation people used to do the same ruby,or a funeral pyre
he laos said he didn't want a stone to hold him down, and he didn't want money wasted on his funeral, so I reckon I got the chjeapest funeral I could manage
I think I did know that, ruby, although I had forgotten
seems weird to us but it is certainly efficient
as long as the wife doesn't have to throw herself on top!
althugh the funeral director was somewhat taken aback to find I only wanted hom to collect and store the body, and bring it iot the crematorium
and 2 other funeral directors had refused
I like the idea of an Irish wake, dancing with the corpse and bringing in professional mourners
you did what sounds like the creative and absolutely right thing, glanta!!!!!
fireworks!
he should not have been.he was taken aback cause he had visions of selling you a 8 thousand dollar coffin is all
yay sue!
we come form Liverpool originally, and elements of the wake are usually in our funerals - people having a good drink and telling tales of the deceased
yaa for sue!!
woo hoo usue
that is like Jews sitting shiva, except that's after the funeral. They eat and drink and talk about the deceased. All good!
in my das case when he goes,he goes right from the hospital direct to the crematorium.i can set up my own service in my own time once i get the urn
I put up a slide show of old photos of dad at the funeral tea - around 75 photos of him aged 18-78
<--- finds the idea of funeral directors refusing to do what the family wants rather disturbing (as long as it is not illegal)
you are amazing, glanta!
they are just pissed cause they miss out on the big casket cash in
could I hire you in advance to do mine?
sounds like you honored your da well glant
people enjoyed looking at the photos and talking about him - and it reminded my mum of how handsome he had been - he was very thin and drawn for the last few months of his life
ROFL Ruby - just let me know what you want
I'll give you access to all the photos and the life story (if I have time!)
so now I have the weekend to myself and am back to work on Monday
have to go and fix dinner. Bye everybody and special {{}} for glanta, the Great!

see you all then - happy babbling
Catching up on the chog - sorry I missed Glant, will have to email her. But I have the absolute least work, least cost planned for my own death - I have donated my body to the medical school.
lol,by the time i am done with my carcass, there will be nothing left worth using except to show the med students what not to do with one body lol
though i hear some schools will actually pay for the cremation when done
got called away -- have to run -- back at the flip :)

Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
I am glad you're home, sorry about the week and the day.
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
Hello Min! welcome to the grid!
Thanks stidmama! Today was last day of summer job.
woo-hoo! do you get a break now?
Sort of. I am going to Vermont for a few days.I come back mid-week next week. Then I'm off to babysit my niece & nephew for a few weeks before school starts
well, a change of pa4 at least! hopefully vermont will be cooler than where you live
It was weird coming home from work today & not do any lesson plans or school work. I hung out at a pool.
LOL yes, that's why I want to sub this year... no lesson plans!
<--- Refuses to believe that "how's tricks" is THAT old of an expression.
H's Hampered! 2 left
G's Grappled! 1 left
LOL go Min go!
Sorry I am multi-tasking. Have just a few more minutes to sit and rest before running stidkid and his friend in for the "call" for tonight's performance. I think Tom is going to meet me here at home, so it's extra driving, but ... I had so much fun at the show last night that I am going again tonight! (and tomorrow, and Sunday)
Hello Everybody. HOw are you all tonight?
Hello Nef! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
hello NEF!
Hi Min and stid! How are you guys?
root
OOOPS! Gotta pay attention to where I am again. Off to PB again. (I'll restock it since I'll probably eat a ot too)

not a word; doesn't count (but I apologize anyway)
anyone checking out the perseids tonight?
If it's clear, I will
I saw them once. What a beautiful sight.
I just hope the mosquitos won't eat us alive tonight!
I remember Minnesota mosquitoes. They can be huge!
yeah; and this year it seems like everyone is getting huge welts from the bites too
evening all
hi dan
Hello dan2bit!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
I am well Min, thanks. And you?
ha I forgot about these bh5s are made for whalkin...
I'm well. Had my last day at summer job today. It's so weird to not have to do any school work this evening
yay congrats
enjoy it, Min. You'll have school work soon enough again
Believe it or not, I don't have that much school work to do during the school year since I'm an ESL teacher
I did more school work this summer than I have done in the past five years or so. I did 3-4 hours every day
sounds like a great job then! :-)
(your regular ESL position , that is)
It is a good job, but very political. Also I am dictated what to do. During summer job I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted(within limits).I did not have to deal with administrators, politics and state testing.
firewords! tx all cluers - pa5 four syllables was my last
Congtatulations da2bit on fireworks! Hooray for you!
WTG, dan2!!! YAY!!!!
I would never have thought ESL would be a political teaching position, Min.
Hello everyone. My icon is a clue if you need it
Hello Bugsaw! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi Bugs.
My job is not political, but the school district is VERY political. The school board is appointed by the mayor.
yuk. I think ours are elected positions here
Hi Nef and Minveryork
hi, all! I finished earlier but thought I would drop in :-)
Yes, most school boards are elected but Yonkers isn't
hi sue. How's it going?
Hello uusue2! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
great, nef! We have had a wonderful time at my dad's, will be leaving tomorrow, sadly
my son has decided that he wants to move here :-)
glad you had a good visit; too bad it has to be so short
we have complicated lives, unfortunately
Aw, he wants to be a Joisey Boy.
is there a chance he might? (Job opportunities, etc?)
when we left home, my son was complaining that we were going to be gone so long; now he is complaining because we have to leave so soon
and he actually really loves New Jersey - who would have thought??? This part of it is quite nice, actually
well, he has three more years of college, nef, and then probably graduate school; by the time he's looking for jobs my dad is not likely to be around, and I think that's a lot of the appeal
would he go to college there?
(sorry, had to go get meds for Aunty)
no, he gets cheap tuition at the university where I teach, and is living at home, so that's where he will stay.
and no problem, nef, how is Aunty doing? And how are you?
uusue, when my son was 15 he wanted to live in the assicted living place my parents were in. They had their own apartment with once a week cleaning and all they had to do to eat was show up in the dining room. He was in heaven
I got discharged from home PT today but am not ready for out-patient PT yet. We now have Aunt Jean's 92 year old (bossy) sister here with us for a while too. DIL and I had a disagreement yesterday and went home for a day. But she will probably come back tonight my son says
hi everyone, love these small grids without s, ed, and q's (hate q lol)
I'll bet, bugs!
hi vanilla. I'm glad it's a small grid; I just might finish it this way!
wow, nef, you have the whole extended family there! hopefully you can get through it without all killing each other (just kidding but it has to be stressful!)
You are a saint Nef.
Saturday here so I'll be looking for a nice big grid for tonight
I had a bit of a melt-down last evening; but am back to "normal" (whatever that is!) now
Saint Nef now that has a nice ring to it
Hello vanillaslice! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
well, it sounds like you deserve a meltdown, nef! (I've had a couple of my own in the past months although being at dad's is helping a lot - helping my son too, I think)
not at all, Bugs. Aunt Jean has perked up with her sister here.
I'm doing fine but we need to go shopping soon and I'll be glad when that's done
is shopping a big deal for you vanilla?
sue, your son probably needs the change of scenery about now. I hope he gets along very well with your Dad too
Not for me but it is for my wife. I try to tell her to let me go do it on my own but she wants to stay involved and that's good
what is the matter with your wife, vanilla?
they are getting along great, nef! they even like the same videos (which my dad has mountains of)
diabetic and mobility problems
(I wish my DH would do all the shopping by himself; but be able to stick to the list!)
Wonderful,sue!
Yeah whenever I go on my own the bill gets big!
mobility problems aren't easy to deal with. DH has 2 motorized scooters and they have been both a blessing and an hassle through the years
(we don't have a car that easily loads the scooters; for the past several years we've had to dismantle and lift the dang things in piece by heavy piece
Bee has a scooter but refuses to use it, same as wheelchair unless we're somewhere where nobody knows her
I had to remind DH that a cane, scooter, wheel chair etc. are ASSISTIVE devices; just as glasses and hearing aids are. He finally "got it" after falling and some people thought he was drunk (he has MS)
we do value our independence
I am done! I have fireworks! bo5/20 was my last word
yay, min!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
congrats Min
YAY, Min!!!! WTG!!!!!!
I will be here off and on to help out w/clues if needed.
bo5/20 can't see that and I have fireworks
yay, vanilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
bo 5/20 reminds me of actor Humphrey Bo*art vanilla.
YAY, vanilla!!!! WTG!!!!
Congratulations vanillaslice on fireworks! Good for U!
ty Min probably thinking of 5/22
That is what I meant to say, bo5/22 sorry vanillaslice
you had me worried there for a while lol
makes me think of golf
hi all
hi, jmc!
Hi jmcnrick! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid.
hi jmc!
YES golf tomorrow and the forecast is rain
hmm i should change my icon but i think i am too lazy
Three last days have been perfect, sunny winter weather
well, your icon doesn't match what your profile says, jmc (at least I don't think it odes!)
last couple of days have been nice here too
haha no my icon is my favorite snack from yesterday's them
we've actually had 3 nice days in a row here too! First time all summer!
nbs
:-)
yay, jmc!
no where near nbt
i just drove to philly and back to take my kenyan guest to quaker mecca
We had our prime minister visiting our town a couple of days ago and she thought she was in Bali, it was just that good
It has be4/6 ae4/4s since I've done a story of clues.I will do one today though. It's hard to co 4/6 with the fact that I will soon lose my Grandmother who lives in Ca 4/6 Cod.I remember how she used to take me and my 2 sisters to Co 4/7 Island every summer when we were te4/4agers. We always had he 4/6 loads of fun with her.She was such a ho4/5 that she would always make us laugh. My Grandma was a literature teacher, so she used to teach me a lot about po4/5ry.She also used to be a great Ping Po 4/7 player & would always beat us at the game. Now she has frail bo4/6s and is a te5/14 person, but her mind is still there. I will miss her when she is go4/6. But I ho4/6 she sticks around for awhile longer.Husband wants to bo4/6 me off the computer. Hubby requested in a nasty to 4/4 for me to give him the computer. I will ob 4/8 his request to keep pe5/14. I am going to lift my bo5/18 out of this seat and watch some TV.Th 4/5 I'm going to goto bed
th** took him to dinner and had to stay and listen to him tell horror stories from the post election violence in Kenya in 2007
I can't find that Y word to get NBTs Any hints would be appreciated
yo 5/18 word sounds like a Baseball Hall of Famer Nef.
ty min that was a real boost
yw
haha i was looking for a baseball player called Nef!
but i got it now
LOL! Thanks, Min!
yw
stats for the bottom row O please
Should have put a comma before Nef. Bad ESL teacher
Short for the braces doctor
Oh crap, you said stats. Shoot me now.
*shoots molly with a rubber band*
its late; don't worry about it
evening kids
*Takes it like a woman*
not to worry min i rarely use punctuation in my posts so who am i to complain about a lack of a comma?
Hi Jes
*eats shoots and leaves*
Hello jesdraggon! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
hi jes from backbeyond!
hi, jes!
how're things in babbleland?
how about the O in the third column
*Sings in gruffy Springsteen voice* DOWN IN BABBLELAND!
i would say things are normal jes *puts in ears plugs*
I think that is the oo6/30
oo6!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I know, trippy.
i won't even pretend: hit me with a clue
oo + ***e Kelly + sometimes vowel
good word!
oooooooo
I think it sounds like tribal chanting.
henge is SO a word. gah.
and no damn definition
Henge is a word and it's NOT a proper noun. So there. I think oo6 has to do with human egg progression.
perhaps similar in meaning to oo first book in bible: creation of an egg cell
egg creation and development, not specifically human though.
how about the E for nbt
Took me a minute to grasp "oo first book in the Bible"
haha some babbler you are!
eb5=black
although i have no room to talk since i looked for a baseball player called nef
ty jes nbt
i'm still 4 tiles from nbt, and 3 words from half way...
nice icon molly i am afraid mine were killed by the construction guys who also definately killed my lilac
go jes go
which i guess isn't bad for such a small grid; often they're harder than the big ones.
I would have serious issues with anyone who killed a lilac.
have 54 left myself
well they moved it to put in a concrete pad--but at least they have left unscathed my bay tree
Babble time over for me; DIL and grandson are back again. Happy Babbling Everyone!
bye nef stay well(ish)
bye, nef!
Goodbye Nef!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
My Mom loved pe5's. They always remind me of her.
bye, nef
have a good evening!
they always remind me of a law clerk i had
she had a wedding bouquet of pe5s because her mother who she didn't really know because she died at 35 had a wedding bouquet of pe5 -- it was very sweet
That is a sweet story. *Sniff*
*hands molls a hankie*
that Y is getting a workout tonight
It does get a lot of action in this grid. Probably tired of the "sometimes" rep.
it is always good to work against typecasting ;-)
where is ru when i need him?
Someone used "sometimes vowel" in a clue today and got the response "Sometimes vowel?" Is that ancient or are kids just not learning a gee dee thing in school anymore?
not ancient but sometimes things learned by rote do not come to mind piece meal
*dances to singing in the rain in honor of ge4/6*
That number never fails to make me smile. They don't make 'em like Ge4 anymore.
Hi all.
How are you jmc?
poor man suffered terribly from arthritis late in life
hi wht
stats on the y word please?
hi wht i am okay all though got shook up hearing too many details about the after election violence in kenya tonight
yo5/18
Hello wht! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
Was that violence tonight, or were you just hearing tonight about the violence from people from Kenya?
just hearing about in too much detail what happened in 2008
2007-08
Good. I was in a partial news vacuum during yearly meeting. Didn't know what I had missed.
got it, thanks
did you see my book for sell at neym?
I forgot to look, jmc.
yw jes
Neym...sounds like a Babble word (I know what it stands for)
i was hoping it was well enough displayed you would have seen it without having to look hard
pa 5/12 pls
oh well
haha it does molls
pa5/12 is a song in honor of someone (i think)
pa + long period of time
pa + charged particle
thanks all
I went into the bookstore once on Sunday wanting to get some Fair Trade chocolate, then I saw some books, and Lynn saw some scarves, and when our bill came to $152 I was afraid to go back.
ty all
stats on the lowest row o?
or 5/12
There, did it right this time.
haha i know what you mean wht--that is why i set aside and budget for the bookstores at these meetings
wd molly
1/2 way
go sue go!
If I can help, I am here.
hi jac!
hi! jmc
gah. thanks, molly. so obvious once i looked at it.
oo 6/30 pls
nbt for me :)
go jes go
oo+***e Kelly + sometimes vowel. (clue blatantly stolen!)
oo + get all the info (ge3 word) + sometimes vowel.
thank you all

Boomer Sooner Red!
Yay..Boomer Sooner back
bh5 is a silly word
*makes quiet hook 'em horns sign*
Evening all. May I please have a clue for ge5-14 the 1st? Thanks
it is indeed jes
jes are you reading my mind?
:) yes jmc
add a letter to the word before it
ge + fish catcher,
clue for the first ho5,16?
JMC, you would have loved the show "Saving Grace". It was about an Oklahoma Police Department with one renegade Longhorn fan in it. He took unending grief.
Thanks jm and wht
no, sue, i am at best sporadically psyckik. I am more commonly psyko
i bet he did i remember the ou games in dallas back when ut was good
a bunch of malarki is ho5
i watched saving grace some
wht - sounds like of of Donald Duck's relatives i h looiey and dddoey.
ty sue
I love saving grace
ho5 owls? i actually went to Rice U
hate it ended
I loved that show, but was disappointed with how they ended it.
yw
b's bashed :)
i never saw the end--what was it?
I remameber watchjing the UK version of the film Saving Grace. Dopn't remember not likin the ending.
it was dumb
c's crushed
i know the joan of whatever one turned out she had a medical problem and they cured her
could have been much better and meant a lot more
Grace basically blew herself up to rid the town of an evil presence who was threatening another OK City type bombing.
e's eliminated
I think the US changed Saving Garce.
yuck!
No, that's only how season one of Joan ended. In season two, her "versions of God" came back.
so she got religion so she could go to heaven when she blew herself up? blech
g
*gRACE. SORRY FOR TYPING BABLY, LIVE IS SHIT RIGHT NO AND i AM A LITTLE BIT PUDDLIED.
go jes
oh jac i am sorry life is shit but being puddled may not be
Giving up now, since last post was nonsense and in upper case.
Aw, poor Jac. *Sends Jac a hug*
Thing is JMC, Grace never really did "get religion". I guess you could say that Earl did "save her soul" though.
not to worry jac it made sense and considering some of the things my computer has done. . .
thanks for hugs, much appreciated;x
Jac, we have seen less sensical things in the chog. (and certainly in the grid.)
well i am with you molly that is a terrible end
<===not a hugger so waves to jac across the pond
It could only have been worse if they showed her standing next to Earl with wings.
sorry you are having trouble, jac!!!
{{{{{{{{jac}}}}}}}}}
a & b - bounced
<---Wants a guardian Angel like Leon Rippy.
h's hashed
why didn't anyone mention the goose!
jmc - waves also appreciated as not a hugger myself. other than immediate family, i.. my kids.
Sorry, is that some sort of requirement?
n's nicked
brb
hey, jam, look out for the goose!
o's ousted
c's crushed
The goose must have escaped when I came back from Hawaii.
anyway, sorry to pop in and out so quickly, but my stepbrother is coming over at 8 tomorrow morning to get his mom's stuff out of my dad's house and I need some sleep to fortify myself
Jac, how was Saving Grace different in the UK?
(and if that sounds complicated, it is)
The Hawaiian goose is a real thug. It stops Babblers finishing the grid at times.
eb5,18 and ivory come together in perfect harmony
Oh God Sue, that sounds awkward.
bye, uusue! sleep sweet tonight :)
e's eliminated
night uu
it is, molly, but hopefully it is the beginning of the end - we spent about 3 hours today with my dad's lawyer and got pretty much everything straightened out
Back in Britain, we've begun to think that the Canadaian Goose. which is a smelly, noisy invader, might be nice to kill, cook and eat.
and now I am really gone, see you all tomorrow! and Illinois is overrun with Canadian geese as well. sigh
Fireworks, and nbt!
I'm not fond of gamey meat myself, but I can totally see the point of making use of wild goose meat.
yay wht!
Well done wht!
Congratulations wht on your fireworks! Hooray for U
I was working down the list, and the yo5 was my last word.
yahoooooo
ge5,14 second one pls
For a small grid, there were an awful lot of strange words.
OHM! LOL
Wht, I don't think you can get fireworks without nbt. : D
Sue, it is a kind of salami. Also a city in Italy.
ge5/14 is a city name
cake from Spain maybe, Sue/
p's pashed
i love that salami
Molly I don't think you can. But today I got nbt and fireworks on the same word.
g's go4
City, cake, salami, a real all purpose word.
I shall remember this for when people are complaining about how long it takes them to get to nbt.
oh how did i manage to miss that to6/27?
I often miss that one Jes
I missed it to, jes
*Hands Wht the Babble King crown*

*Curtsies to the King*
sue - g0 4 no longer here, go4 a fool or a joker.
h's hammered
Now I must go to bed I appoint Molly as my regent until I return.
Since I am no longer sure what is required, I just finish the grid, I will retire quietly now.xx
