Oh, sneaky-lurky, ruru! Congrats!

Oh, pants on fire!
lol
so sorry; have you found anything to help the pain?
story of my life jilli...lol
en 6/7 two sets
anyone find the last 8?
painkillers aren't really helping dee
So what will be done about it, ruru? You can't go on like that.
are you scheduled for surgery?
ditto what jili said
i'm getting a second opinion.. I was in tears today from the pain
I hurt just thinking about you
that is horrible Ruru!
my cleaning helper had a knee replacement 6 weeks ago (she is late 50's), and she did fantastic...said she feels like a new woman
what is wrong with you ruru?
that's what I'm hoping for dee
we have amazing orthopedic surgeons around here...
oh -- sore knee -- from tennis?
wrecked knee from tennis cyber
the sooner you do it the better you will feel; her doc scolded her for waiting so long
Those replacements work miracles -- you'll be back on the courts.
sure is a possibility
But beware of ACL surgery, I hear.
why jili?
Often doesn't last, apparently.
haven't read much about it in years... seems that choosing the right doc is the key

hi stid
ty ty was driving me crazy
I know that feeling Dee!
OH!!! BIG NEWS... well maybe. Anyway...
stid, partner is away enjoying plays in Stratford, Ontario. Also not in the mood because of what's in my writeup.
:)
do tell us the news
My local school, where I would dearly love to teach, has a one-year opening!!!! I met with the principal this morning as soon as I found out about it. Paperwork in process... will open up to "new" district employees later this week.
nice tribute jilli
oh wow!!! How wonderful!
Oh stid, that would be WONDERFUL!
thanks on Jack's behalf, flosey.
any good energy you can send. Although I really didn't want to do full-time teaching because of my desire to actually sleep at night, I think this would be a real wonderful experience. I so admire the administrator, and the teachers are all so supportive of each other.
I was sad to learn of his passing, Jill -- I didn't know of him until I read carlee's fb status this morning. And now I am devastated he is gone.
yeah for you stid!
fantastic opportunity and kinda nice it is only one year then
hey lurkercurlschool! how's you?
not lurking, just popped in for a few
only one year -- but I think if I could "get my foot in the door" I could parlay it into a more long-term thing.
hi mcurl!
great way to try out the environment, so you know you would really want to be there
long day; volleyball practice was at 645 am!!
hi jilli
anyway... I am half hoping I will and half hoping I won't... but am going to give it my very best and see what happens!
stid, if you get your foot in that door they'll never let you out if they have any sense
I student taught there, my kids went there and I attended this school Dee: yes, I would LOVE to teach there!
so wonderful
not to mention the commute is nearly nothing ;-)
stid -- did I tell you my granddaughter is going to be teaching in the school she went to and where her mother still teaches?
EXACTLY! I could walk there if my car broke down! LOL
that sounds nice, jill -- what a great experience it should be for her.
stid, I've been worried that you would get a job a long way away whcich would be a big hassle.
I won't even LOOK at certain districts, Jill -- would rather sub close by. The only reason I would go further than a 25-minute drive is to teach in a place where I know the administrator well.
or me!
oh, good, stid
:-D we rural types have to be picky... the gas prices would eat up all our income!
try our gas prices!
NO thanks, Jill!!!!
I spent over $1000 commuting for the ten-week student teaching assignment in the fall -- and probably less than $150 in the Spring.
I spend waaay too much money on gas
That's too easily done.
hey ruru! Did you ever see my "Pessimist" wine picture? I saw that bottle and thought of you... *wicked mama grin*
you do a lot of driving, ruru -- don't you get reimbursed by your company?
yes stid.. .. but I am not a pessimist
oe 6/24 and oe 7/36
I am my company jilli...lol
I know! But it was a clever wine bottle -- and you like wine, and you are clever!
Oh.
Do you know what a bigamist is stid?
it is clever stid.. i will check it out next time I'm in Paso
hm. I don't think I know this one, ruru... *worried mama look*
*an Italian Fog*
nbt & nbs
I loved that the bottle label looks half red, but the red is the words "half empty" all over it.
rofl ruru!
okay, stidkid has misplaced his very precious ring, and I have to help him look. back tomorrow *poof*
bye stid

I have my moments. See elephant riding photos.

Or "here is my steed" I think I said. Whatever. ;)

gnight flosey and hi sprite
hey jilli :) Just added your themes to the list. We are into october already now :)
Thanks, sprite
I see jilli.
sorry for your loss, jilli
It's not just mine, sprite -- far from it
Oh yes... just reading. That is sad.
He wrote that letter only 3 days ago?
Yes, neil.
Well, maybe he started it before that, but it was released two days before he died.
Sounds like a very good man.
With very good parents.
Yes, you know them.
I really feel for them... how devastating.
His sister became the Head of the school my husband and son went to -- after their time, of course.
Yes, I see.
Seain posted a link to an article about him on G+ earlier. You know him, right?
His father died of Parkinson's several years ago. He talked to his mother almost every day no matter where they were. Sh winters in Florida, summers in Toronto.
I know Seian, yes. I never knew Jack.
Oh, ok. I can't imagine her pain.
I think I've seen you somewhere as a "suggestion"... maybe Google Buzz, maybe G+?
*Seain
I know the name... player name.
I'm not with either Google things and don't really want to be. Enough to do!
bedtime for me -- not doing well with this biggie. Goodnight neil and anyone else here...*poof
Hello everyone I am new at this game so can anyone tell me is there a list of yesterday's words please?
Haha, yeah. Know that feeling.
[In answer to jilli.]
hi Nonnax, welcome to the game. Yes, there is a list. When you go to the archives and you click on yesterday, you can see the words.
Oh thank you I will give it a go
Nonnax9, since you are pro you can see that for yourself... scroll down and click on the "Lickety's Babble Clues" link below the Tile Stats and you'll see the list there, if one has been posted.
Oh sorry, you said yesterday's.
you can either click one of the top names, or the link on top for Show Word List
Think I'm too tired to read coherently.
let me know if you have trouble finding it, nonnax
Thanks Sprite I found it. Gee I am a dill I hope I get better at this
How does everyone stay awake so late?
glad you found it :) And this is not an easy game, don't worry if you cannot find all the words at first. You will find more soon enough. For me it is 9.45 am... we play all over the world. Some people are insomniacs and play babble when they cannot sleep... etc :)
LOL Nonnax, only 5:43pm here in Aus. Be very careful...this is a highly addictive came....welcome and have fun!
hey dizgrannie :) How are you today?
I'm not saying what time it is where I am right now. It's an ungodly hour to be awake and i shouldn't be.
a lot better now, thanx Sprite....my 84 yr old Mum had a fall and broke her hip on the w/end...she is on the mend and behaving herself in Hospital.
oh am so sorry for her! But great that she is healing now. LOL @ behaving herself...
also glad you are a lot better, btw!
LOL she is a cheeky bugger...when I was there today she was giving the Phyrio a hard time
**phySio
Oh that's awful and scary when someone that age does that. Hope she heals well.
anyways BBL dinner time.
thanx Neil
wonderful! Hip may be broken, but her spirit isn't. My grandmother broke her hip at an even later age and healed up completely.
enjoy, dizgrannie
hi all
hey crystalle
whta is the weather like in the netherlands
it is raining cats and dogs right now
my daughter and I planned to go to the spa today... and we couldn't have picked a better day, lol.
oh not so great then lol
hehehe no, not today, it is really bad. But it has been reasonable, of late.
how is the weather where you are?
on the other side of the world? :)
the warm weather is coming but slowly....we aare still get cold and wet days
are still getting cold wet days
not too great either then
today was lovely though
my littlest one and i went to the park it was that nice
:D Did you have time to enjoy the weather?
good morning
hey rubyfoo, good morning. Do you have lots of rain too today?
i had a lai back day! It was great...we scoured the local op shops and then had lunch at a nice cafe then we went to the park for a bit.
crystelle that sounds so lovely!
it was. Everyone needs some time out once in a while
no rain yet.... 3 days of 35-40C in the afternoons. It is supposed to rain by Thursday
the good news is that when it's hot, there are fewer aches and pains
ain't that the truth, crystelle
quite hot, rubyfoo. But if you have a siesta, it should be nice.
but the garden is lovely still, roses and fruit and even hazelnuts from a tree I thought was merely decorative
and it's time to pick the quince to make the kitchen fragrant
I must love and leave you, ladies. I am going to pack and then to the spa with my girl. Planning on being decadently lazy today.
64 left for tonight. *hugs*
sounds like a great plan, sprite!!
clues for any of the 9?
hi cos, I just started and got a very quick 70, but all smalls
ah thanks anyway :) i need two more for nbt and an 8 and 9 for nbt
Try looking for the ev8 like Sherlock and you'll find the 9s as well.
ooh, great clue, haz. TY
You're welcome.

hi everyone
just having a quick go before work
morning coolgirl i have come off nights straight on to babble
its so addictive even when im tired i still have to have a look
hi haz
i never come on when im doing my stint of nights so needed my babble fix this morning ;)
starting to tire now i must admit after a 13 hour shift i need my bed but the grid is to powerful to resist......
ive got 127 left getting difficult now
what time do you leave for work, you may have to come back to it later tonight
in about half hour
back for a few more -- hopefully
Good afternoon ruby how are you today?
feeling pretty good, thanks, it seems to be cooling off a little after 3 days of about 100F in the sun
but it's still too hot to pick fruit
blimey, we have had nice weather too but not that hot thank god
yes it will be
very unusual for here
we usuallly have about 10 hot days a year, but not above 90F
over cast today i think we are in for a spot of rain later
but, up to now, the summer has been gorgeous
we could use a good soak
how far north are you, moshe
carnt say the same for england lots of rain as you will no doubt know from fellow babblers
Cleveland
just read your profile, moshe, and it is lovely to meet you
the US has really suffered this summer. My son lives in TX and has had more than 50 consecutive days over 100F
thank you i believe we have spoken before ruby
double blimey re your son
us brits would be maoning if we were getting that heat
I try to keep the names and places straight, but unless I write things down, I can't -- sorry
its ok its only been a few times
I spoke with a friend in Ireland yesterday and she said that haven't had any sunshine all summer
we have had the odd spell
most of it i have been on nights and missed it with been in bed :(
I would have a hard time adjusting to working nights, very much a morning person
finished nights this morning havent been to bed yet came straight on here.... as you do lol
this is an interesting grid, lots of "builders" and some babblets
yes indeed
I love doing the grid frist thing in the AM, then don't make much prgress the rest of the day
struggling now i must admit with 38 to find. tiredness will not be helping either
yes i come back to it during the course of the day
I was happy to get past half -- 128 left and it's slowed waaaay down
its 2 years next month since i joined the babble gang, its gone by sooo fast
for me, 2 yrs in Dec
but I rarely finish, happy with at least half and nbt, nbs
i dont talk but i do like to see certain people chat, you all seem to share so much with each other i feel like i know you all
that's how I feel, especially since nobody around here speaks English
do you mind if i ask how your husband is ruby?
he is frail and cranky, but still has his good moments. He is scary-thin, however, and fell off his treadmill this morning
you are very kind to ask!
treadmill is that wise him going on that thing, he has been poorly recently hasnt he?
since the dog attack, he is afraid to walk in the village but needs the exercise
the treadmill is a big, scary thing, and he was careless for just a minute. He is also very stubborn and won't take advice from anybody
yes of course i understand i work in rehab with stroke victims so i understand the importance of keeping moving
typical man then eh!!!
and before the heart attack, he was jogging 3X/week for 50 minutes
wow
slowly, of course, lol
yes of course lol
nare
well, you can see I've run out of words! 110 left and time to read the paper
ty for the nice chat
dea n
sorry - the space bar decided to come in at the wrong time. :P
hi and bye bremen
*poof*
ssame to you ruby take care now. i have to go to my neighbour who is 67 wants me to go grocery shopping with her so i must shoot myself
next time, I'll remember your name, moshe, I've written it down
shoot??? hahah
lol ok bye for now. shoot yes its all this mixing with our friends from across the pond
blimey i meant i must go not go shoot myself
ty for making me chuckle!
just realised what i had written...i blame the night shift

Good morning Mom. And it is a good morning here. 60 beautiful degrees and loads of sunshine.
good morning Molly, love the icon. It is a beautiful morning here as well
gide
oops
Thanks Mom. It's part of my ongoing quest to rid myself of the overly dramatic. Life is too short. : )
here too -- humidity flew away in the night!!
I agree, many years ago I decided to only associate myself with people with pleasant dispositions. Family excluded :-)
((Une)) good morning, it will be hot later today, but right now, gorgeous
we will be getting high humidity today!
bam! got that elusive e. nbt.
good morning Jen
congrats good enough
It's great self care Mom. The negative ones tend to drain our life force. Hi Jen, Une and GE.
so wonderful to step outside and not be enveloped in August sauna! :-)
very true Molly
good morning Peri
help with the 8's and 9's pls
I agree Une. I wanted to pitch a tent and sleep outside last night it was so gorgeous.
hello hello everyone
Hi Peri.
Good morning Annie.
Hi Annie
fr8 x 2 -- people from paris, pt and plural
morning, annie :-)
((Annie)) good morning
hi peri, (((Mom))), Molly, une, Jen, GE, etal
Annie, I got an email this week -- the first two pups on your calendar have been adopted into wonderful families!
merci, Une
(the others probably have too but I don't always hear back)
Une, That news is a wonderful start to my day
need a 9 for nbt
next SAturday I'm transporting Schipperkes -- that's a new breed for me
never heard of that breed
a breeder's going out of business and transport coordinators are helping her place 20 Schipperkes
do you travel far when you transport these dogs Une?
they look like little black wolves sorta
God bless you for doing that, Une. There is a family down the road from my parents who are dog rescuers
were bred to catch vermin
I was originally opposed to those fr8's until I realized they referred to food preparation.
could refer to a type of kissing too :)
peri, it depends -- usually an hour each way but sometimes longer if needed
Peri, both 9's build off of an ev word. It's what is presented in court to build a case.
peri, that's what *I* thought!! LOL
there goes Peri, her mind in the gutter so early in the morning :-)
oh, then I'm down in the gutter with peri LOL
Good for you Peri. I'm getting stale. I didn't even think of that. : O
me? *looking innocent*
brb
tx for the ev8 and 9!!
thanks for the ev words
Good Morning everyone - there were 2 9's out of that Une
: )
((River)) good morning
got the other one now, thanks, river!
Hi River
are we playing in the gutter this morning
frolicking!!!
sometimes the gutter is the best place to play
you all make me smile
Oscar Wilde said: We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. : )
:-D
love that quote
I need a Y for nbt
A day without babble is a day without sunshine
It's a 4 that means icky River.
I agree Mom - was having babble withdrawal last week when I couldnt get on
ty for the 9's
Or what you say about something icky.
stepping out of the gutter to go for a walk, bbl
got one - thanks
be safe, Peri.
bye peri
gotta run -- BBL -- off to pick up donated food from Whole Foods -- Sunday they gave me 4 cases of packaged salads, a big box of hotdogs and sausages, and lots of cut-up fruit!!

Une is a good person
yes she is

(((Annie))) thank you. I wish you a great day as well
thank you
you're most welcome
that "almost" gerund ending is annoying
C
X'
hello inge
Yes Annie, I have thought I saw the almost gerund ending about ten times.
hi again, all, quick breakfast and then off to my astronomy class - this is a new one for me, should be interesting!
ooh! I have nbt!
need the E in the 4th column please
em4----scottish uncles
What will you be teaching? Is it like Astronomy 101 - red dwarfs, etc.?
<--- Loved planetarium field trips
no, it's more like astronomy 300 - similar coverage to astronomy 101 (which I have taught before) but with a lot more math
and I love the planetarium too :-)
Cool!
I'm not a math person. I think I'll just stick to star gazing. : )
yes, it should be fun! but I really need to get the math down; astronomy is not actually where my degree is
(have been writing a lecture on how light is absorbed by matter - very good to know if you are looking at things in the sky, but the details are complicated)
I am not a math fan either. I am reading " A Geometry of Music" and I am surprised at the mathematical equations in there.
music can be very mathematical (the frequency relationships between chords, for example) - in my Music Theory 3 class, out of about a dozen students, three of us were physics majors!
I actually wrote a computer program to do my homework for me - mind you, this was in 1970 - would have been faster to do the homework myself (which I had to do anyway as the program never did work right) but it was an interesting exercise
bummer, thunderstorms. and of course my class is in a different building from my office. Great impression on the first day of class: drowned rat. Oh well.
Music is very much about math. It's interesting when someone describes that in a manner that I can grasp.
I found the process of figuring out how to harmonize a melody, within the given rules (no parallel fifths, godt! :-) to be very similar to solving mathematical problems.
and the rain has started, and I have to go. Sigh. See you later, and wish me luck!
Good luck Sue!
thx :-)
good morning folks; how many words today and thanks
290 words steve
290 words Steve
thanks

yw steve
are you new to babble Steve? I don't believe I've seen you here before
Hi Flo
hello Hego
steve's been around for a while, flosey, at least I've seen him here for a few months now
and hi to steve, flosey and hego!
Hi Sue
just got into my office in the midst of a downpour. So glad I dressed up nice for the first day of class :-P
everyone else will be wet too.
yeah, but they're students and I'm the professor
just give them that beautiful smile Sue
although I suspect they wouldn't care if I showed up in jeans and t-shirt
It will be fine Sue.
the course sounds interesting Sue
I know it will; I'm just wondering (as I always do) whether it might not make more sense just to dress as I feel comfortable (NOT a fashion plate here). At this point my student evaluations hardly matter anyway, and if my style of dress affects their learning of physics, that's more their problem than mine, isn't it? Assuming that I am reasonably neat and clean, of course.
Hi, sue, relax - I'll tell you a funny story - I went to my Italian interview yesterday all nervous, met the professor (who of course is younger than me) and she was a nervous wreck. Turns out it was her day to present her tenure application. I ended up reassuring her!!!
it is, flosey! I am really looking forward to it - I've taught astronomy before but not at this level. I should learn a lot!
students do NOT care what you wear. if it's ridiculous, like you wear red every day, they might make fun of you behind your back, but that's it.
hi, jbv! I missed seeing you yesterday to find out how things went - sounds like they went fine :-)
I love speaking Italian more than anything!
I think you are right, hurshy. This is my last day for a dress. (I don't have very many dresses anyway)
Well, you would have had a great time yesterday, hego- we went back and forth. Seems she was as eager to practice her English as I was to speak Italian!
Of course, I'm usually in Italy when I'm doing it so that may be a factor. lol
Fun JBV
And Sue, be comfortable.
Hego, where do you go when you go to Italy?
hope her tenure goes through - I remember going through that myself - it is your whole life on the line! very scary
Everywhere and every chance I get JBV
`need coffee, brb
Me too, I liked her a lot. We have a lot in common.
I took a cooking tour of Tuscany in May.
Hego, do you subscribe to RAI Internazionale?
Well, if all goes well, I'll probably be going next year some time. I would love to go in the spring, not sure....
Erda, no, but I know of it.
Erda, You can get RAI online - I watch TV shows in Italian all the time!
Spring is great!
It's worth every penny -- but you need to have Dish TV
I don't have dish
I've watched 7 of the Commissario Montalbano series - LOVE IT!
It's better on a larger screen, with good sound
no pennies, online :)
yes, true, Erda -
it's hard to understand tv. Very fast, but fun.
The Magica Italia series is wonderful!!
I'm jealous!
They did the isle of Ponza yesterday
I will go back to Umbria next year.
I have RAI on cablevision. I dont speak Italian tho.
Hi Annie
Hego: Envy, envy...
Are you paying extra for it Annie? I get it too but just for a half-hour each day. Otherwise it's $19.95 for the full package.
Hi hego
No, RAI is part of the package
Hmmm maybe I can get it too.
Wow! Do you live in an Italian neighborhood?
She lives in Brooklyn so you could say that.
No, really it is Russian for the past 25 or so years...I live near an Italian neighborhood ---Avenue X..but I live in Brighton Beach
just that they cater to the viewing audience... here we have hours of Chinese, Korean and Japanese programming
The full Italian package on Dish now also includes Berlusconi's Mediaset channel
I love listening to the language....my husband was Italian but he did not speak the language...dammmm
Must go now. Laundry done. bbl
never too late to learn, Annie - give it a try!
ciao
bye hego
ciao Annie
JBV, I was thinking of learning Russian. Might give that a try
they probably have Russian classes at your local high school or community college
any doctors or nurses in the house?
jbv, no they do not...I looked into the community college but they do not offer Russian.
hurshy?
not here hurshy, sorry
hi hurshy, doctor of philosophy, but that won't help you
:) JBV
I must be on my way, bye, dear babblers
bye Annie, have a great day
you too, flosey
bye Annie
ciao, jbv
ciao Annie, ci vediamo presto (we'll see each other soon)
this is a very "friendly" grid - we have Spanish and French "friends" here.......
ciao a tutti
ciao, Erda
ok, off to class, the rain has abated a bit, bbl!
Geez, where is it raining?
i can't find any of the lower right E words :(

Thanks, hurshy, you too.
hi Haz
se8 - compound word, almost and not hearing.
Hello, JBV, peri and all.
ty Haz, never would have found that one

Glad you got there, peri. Some very twisty words in the grid today.

Good Morning Fellow Babblers
morning Nef
Good morning, Nef.
how are you all today? We had some rain overnight and it will be humid and hot today; but (so far) I'm feeling great today! :-)
had light rain on/off all day yesterday, looks undecided as yet for today
big grid today; seems easy right now but I'll bet it won't stay that way!
176 down but seems I've hit a wall
42 down here! :-D
started last night, Nef
Ahh! I'm just starting now. If I am up that late these days; I'm not sharp enough to think -or find words in the grid
Taking a break for a walk. Bye!
bye Haz
break time
bbl
hello
hi nef and anybody else who's still here
I love this grid, 184 words from this am
Good morning, y'all.
hi ruby. Just fixed some coffee; DH and Aunty seem to be lazier than I am today; they are both still asleep and it's nearly 10 AM!
hello judi
hi Judi
Wild party last night, nef?
nice for you to have some quiet time, nef
Hey Ruby, Nef and Judi
{{molly}}
hi all back for the last five
<-- loves the ev words!
hi vanilla
Hi Vanilla
nope, Judi. They both went to bed fairly early last night. But we'd had a big day since Aunt Jean had to go to the lawyer and getting her there was a job.
all these ed/es words whatever you call them get a bit tiresome
hi vanilla. I see you are totally hooked on Babble. Good for you! :-)
hi Molly too
I am at the expense of sleep and a few other niceties
WOW! I didn't realize that there were 2 sets of the PT and Pl endings til you said that! My word count will jump dramatically now
3 top left r's to go
still have 100 to go!
lucky you
210 left here
youve got it all before you nef
even though I know I can't finish, this has some splendid words in it
and I have the whole day ahead too!
hi and nbt
hello joshua
It is just gorgeous here today. Sunny and a nice cool 70 degrees. I planted some chrysanthemums to say thanks to Ma Nature.
I just got NBT and NBS right now
that is a grand thank you, molly, what colors?
Purple. I'm into the royal color of late.
denim
denimed
oh, sorry
I might pick up some white as an accent color next time I'm out.
Princess Molly
Ruby, there are some lovely, warm croissants in the PB.
thanks ruby
bad ruby!
if only denimed was a word
Achew. Sniff sniff.
it was worth a try, just not in that box!
it was worth a try, just not in that box!
*Passes some homemade chicken soup to Judi*
2 re's to go
how many re's are there? I have 14
wish I could help, vanilla, but that's a lot of Rs and I'll bet I don't have the ones you need yet
Too damn many.
16 ruby
putting the monkeys to work
aha fireworks
yay vanilla!
YAY, vanillaslice!!!! WTG!!!!
tyvm
Good on ya, Nilla!
I try not to look at all the helps they give in the first hour, that spoils it for me
ty Judi
got the 16 re's, now only 96 left hohoho
well done
Go, go, ruby!! You can do it!!
I turn chat off when clues get given too early. And when people just start spouting off clues when they have not been asked for.
I don't think so, nef, but thanks for the vote of confidence
I'm always happy with half and nbt, nbs
one more word will be 250!
is French your first language Ruby?
I hate ae's and oe's.
do they give clues in the first hour? I'm never on at that time
Go, hurshy!
I rarely finish grids this big. I've got too many other things to do during the day to devote that much time to this game. It's a nice thing to play at when I'm taking a break though.
yes up to a month ago that was a nono
ty judi, I hadn't tried any oe's
I always think that the first hour is a wild time with people trying to find the longest words; I've never thought that they were really cluing though
no, I am just a retiree here and knew French in school
it's nice to have a large grid where the big words are actually normal words
I guess they start in the middle of my night, Chicago time, right?
From the few times I have read the first hour chat, it is one of the most competitive things I've ever seen.
how funny, molly
what a nice country to retire to
I didn't realize that this was competitive
it is beautiful here, vanilla, nestled in a village in the foothills of the Alps but near to Geneva and Lyon
It's not for me, but it seems to be for some people.
Oh Ruby, that sounds gorgeous.
that first hour always seemed competitive to me too
nly you can't make me jealous because its just perfect here in the sw of west Australia
it really is; we are lucky to have found this quiet corner of France
I've never been on at the first hour. Who can think that early, let alone be competitive?
I would love to see Australia
I miss the ocean though, being this far inland
Some people that play in the first hour are in different time zones, so it isn't as early for them as it would be for us. Others, well I guess they just stay up until all hours of the night/early morning.
Uh oh, Vanilla. Hope you're up for company. Some of these Babblers really get around.
we spent a few weeks up north of our state some time ago, just fantastic
when do they start?
One of the things I have learned while here is that someone is always going to have a problem with something .... there are no site rules ... just be considerate ...
midnight Chicago time is when the grid changes, ruby.
hello BR
The wild flowers are amazing this time of the year
hi BR
so 7 hours, hm. 1AM
I get in trouble for phantoms that aren't and jokes that aren't funny
love wild flowers, vanilla
Except for the occasional troll and a rare political discussion, we're generally a rather blissfully civil group.
where my son lives, in the hill country of Texas, there are wonderful wild flowers in March
flip is at 1 pm for me good time when Bee goes for her afternoon nap
I'm afraid I've offended some in my short time here
ruby, if you can watch it for just 15 minutes some time, you'd be amazed at how competitive it is
howdy everyone:)
(((RUBY)))
Speaking of offensive.... Oh, hi, Crossy!
if I ever have the time, I'll go back and read the early-morning chog
gee thanks...
{{crossy}}
crossy is placidity exemplified
hi crossy
that is too funny, I'll have to look
nice to see you too judi..lol
howdy nef
hi everybody, reading back and laughing, and BR, I LOVE your phantom phantoms :) don't ever stop
by the time I get on, either there's nobody here or those who are, help
and the jokes of yours I've seen were fine! Tant pis (as they say here) if they don't like them
I only chat on 2 websites - one is a forum with moderators who keep everybody in line and keep posting the rules, and the other is here, where we get along fine without mods
crossy is always a picture of decorum:))
that is so true JBV
does anybody remember Fractured Fr****? Tant pis -- auntie peed in the closet
and crossy's words of wisdom...yay!
hello jbv
hola
hi ruby - lots of fr**** words here today
hi kje
I didn't realize that fr could be lower case
hola kje
and a few español, too
ty jbv

fr fries
You know I'm just teasing, Crossy. [[[[hugs]]]]]

good day everyone!
((judi))
howdy car
hi car
It is also a style of kissing, as Peri reminded us this morning. : P
Carole sounds nicer
lol Molly the things you get up to
?
{{{kkkkkissssss}}}
the fact i thought of cooking before kissing is very sad - LOL
Hey, it wasn't me. Peri is the one who brought that up. I was like Ruby, I didn't even think of the cooking style.
fr has all kinds of connotations
and now,bg popular demand,it is time once again for crossy,s tidbit of the day!!!!
? why do I sound nicer?
I believe {{{{{{{SNOG}}}}} is more accurate.
better than car I mean
Symbols, like !#@%, that used to indicate swearing or cursing in comic strips are called grawlix.
Oooooooooooh.
What am I walking in on?
I think what was meant was Carole sounds nicer than Car. I think.
Grawlix?You making stuff up?
It'd be fun to see that in the grid sometime
fr le.. lessons
Just took me a minute...as usual!!!!
Yay! I just broke 100. Time for a break! *POOF*
bye Judi
11.40 pm here time to hit the sack for me
m ince
Bye Judi! Night Vanilla!

night all poof
ty for that one
But thanks for the word. Have some tabouli.
it helps that almost every word in here today has a pt and plural version as well:)

dosefine - i like it, sounds like a real na4!
dosephina
... no just two teenage nicknames stuck together .... the second part is just rude ... the first is the french word for "bacK" ...
de7/48 anyone?
An inferior deity
Literally translated, half a holy one.
hey all! who you calling an "inferior" deity??? hmph.
*turns babble tiara and throne to lead*
maybe I should read fewer Rick Riordan stories... LOL
Hi Stid. Popping in and out as I get things done. How are you?
not bad, Molly -- cold gone. you?
Doing well, and I just saw a hawk outside, which is always a good harbinger for me. : )
yaa crossy got the ev,8,9,9
:-D The sun has come out.... go cross go! *looking for EV words*
OOOH! FOUND THEM!!!! *bounce bounce*
thanks Cross!
yaa for stidmama!
do you have proof of the e words stid?
I have sufficient proof that I believe an indictment would be possible...
hey good!
good afternoon (or almost)
all leads pint to stids sleuthing
Halfway! YES!!! *half-celebratory dance*
point
LOL cross!
and now to get my day fully started. I was SO brave yesterday, btw. Found out about that job opening at my dream school, printed up a letter of interest and resume and zipped on down to talk to the principal. Probably won't get it, but... at least I am doing my best! *proud mama look*
meantime, my plan to substitute teach this year is firmly in place and I am pretty much ready to go. Will get my materials together next week "just in case" I get called to work the first week of school.
good for you stid. *pat on the back*
:-D And now.... I really am getting up. this is me, facing the day... any moment now.... *poof*
Oh dear God. 9/11 Commemorative Wine? Really? Have we become that money grubbing and callous?
yes!
hi Moll
Hey Hoot. Every time I think I've seen it all, some idiot proves me wrong.
amen!
hi all, back from class, rather soggy but otherwise it went well, and there were two more students than I was expecting!
hi sue - guess it's raining by you?
Two more is always better than two less.
i called the triage nurse, she does not think i have a brain bleed or anything awful like that
so that's something
hello, back
hi hershy - what happened???
hi ruby
just a weird headache - doesn't hurt much when i'm still, but hurts like heck if i shake my head a bit or any other quick-type movements. never had that before so didn't know if it meant anything.
To me that means sinus trouble. Try some ibuprofin, if
i have been taking ibuprofen in prescription-size doses.
{{hurshy}}
it usually works for me
hello everybody else. I love this grid!!!
i have just been getting over a cold, so sinus does seem likely, except the weird thing was, i wasn't very congested, it was mostly sore throat.
molly, were you here when the hawk came into my house?
Then it's a migrane. Have taken something new the doctor prescribed? I had a that happen once.
When my sinus does that I never have any other symptoms. But my body is weird anyway!
i don't know that it's bad enough to be a migraine. i have had a worse headache before due to overheating.
Well if it doesn't go away over night I would go to a doctor
yes they told me to call back tomorrow or if it gets worse tonight or anything
good!
Oh my God Ruby. A hawk came in your house? Hursh, hope you feel better.
thanks molly
de 6/24 plz third from bottom
remove the beach from your clothes?
thats its hursh, ty
I heard thumping in the living room while I wea in the kitchen and a hawk had flown in the front door and was frantically bqnging into the furniture
I took her by the shoulders back out the door and she flew straight up!
thrilling experience, molly
ruby, you're amazing!!
I just like animals
and insects
me too :-)
and living in the country
From linsdomain...Hawk is the messenger, the protector and the visionaries of the Air. It holds the key to higher levels of consciousness. This totem awakens vision and inspires a creative life purpose.
so now I have two spirit animals, "my" moth (oak eggar) and the "epervier"
I don't live in the country, but my place backs up to the woods. So I get regular visits from all kinds of birds, rabbits and deer. Sometimes snakes and turtles too.
I used to have a pet spider and learned to live-catch flies for her, but she hasn't been around for two years
my mom used to take the box turtles away from the dogs and "replant' them at a distance :-)
there are no deer, squirrels or rabbits here as the French have eaten all of them but up in the mountains above the house there are wild boar and chamois
no turtles, either
snakes but I haven't seen any and lizards and bats
how big were the turtles, une?
I think there are more wild animals in Manhattan than in this country-corner of Fr****
we have tons of deer and bunnies . . . and chipmunks and coyotes. . . and more deer than we used to -- we're taking away their habitats . . .
whoops, pb for me.....
do the deer eat your garden?
box turtles are like chunky little boxes -- about 2 handsful :-)
cute!
haven't had a prob with deer in the garden . . . and my bunnies are sooo polite -- they eat dandelion leaves and other weeds :-)
on the other hand, the squirrels and chipmunks dig up my bulbs grrrrr
send some over here; the weeds are taking over!
My rabbits are really polite, too... but my chipmunks are PURE EVIL.
Hello, Une and ruby.
oh, believe me, I have PLENTY of weeds! LOL
Vicuna, mine too -- they are NOT cute . . .
and they eat cheeks full of birdseed out of my feeders!
hello vicuna
Well, they are very handsome little critters, but beauty is only fur deep. Inside they have demon hearts,
indeed!!
that is too funny about chipmunks. I never had a garden in the US, so had no idea
Here is one of the turtles that came to visit us one day. http://tinyurl.com/3tattgf
They eat my tomatoes before they even begin to ripen. They strip the vines bare. I've harvested only 4 tomatoes this entire year and I'm in despair.
so maybe we're lucky with the limited wildlife....I've been giving away tomatoes for two weeks
Cute, Molly. We get painted turtles here. They always try to lay eggs in our lawn, but we've never seen any babies hatching, although I keep hoping.
MY chippies are great! But I keep losing them to hawks & cats. They have their own feeding station. The sqirrels as far as I'm concerned are target practice!
oh, ruby!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE homegrown tomatoes!!
hey, hoot :-)
Our squirrels don't give us much trouble. Ruby, I'm as green as a tomato with envy! =)
I live in an older part of Nashville and the trees are FULL of squirrels' nests UGH
Hoot, send me your hawks! We actually have lots of hawks around here, but they don't seem to be doing their duty as far as the chipmunks are concerned.
Vicuna - it is my experience that it is the squirrels that eat the tomatoes! Last house we were in we never got to taste one! Neighbor with even more plants didn't either!
Polite bunnies. They must be friends of Scrabs. : )
this year I put a big sheet of fine mesh over my fig tree and finally got to eat some of my own figs!!
saw the turtle but lost my connection!
Thats the way to do it Une. At scholl we made big cages for all of them!
Nope, it's the chipmunks not the squirrels here. We watch them red-pawed, the brazen little monsters. They'll steal them, eat half, and leave the rest at the top of their holes. We saw one once so greedy that it stole a tomato too big to fit down its own hole.
I had about a dozen ripe figs in July but the second crop are turning yellow while small and falling off
V - Id'd love too. They seem to have decide our feeders are there lunchbox!
Mmm... figs.
I think the hawk was trying to pick a bird off the feeder and missed
that is a great image of the chipmunk trying to get the tomato down its hole, right out of Disney
I need lunch! My typing is getting crazy!
So Alvin and the Chipmunks is all propaganda?
Vicuna, that's what makes me crazy -- chipmunks dig up my bulbs, take one little bite and just leave them there . . .
Oh and fine as long as they stick to the pigeons!
my figs aren't really very good but growing them is a kick
hey, haz!
mine are very big, ruby, but they're tasty :-)
*aren't
and now the quince are ready to pick
Hello! I'm being very glad that we have no chipmunks. We're very civilised - no snakes either.
Hello, Haz.
black or green, une?
Hello, Vicuna. I never realised you felt so strongly about chipmunks.
Une - before I go - please e-mail me. Will be on vacation as of next week and making a trek to Nashville for McKays and Trader Jies. Like to arrange a meet maybe?
But I like snakes. Snakes are good. We just have the little garter snakes around here, though. I wish we had some rat snakes to eat those chipmunks!
Oh Haz, you can't imagine. I loathe the little stripey hellspawn to the very depths of my soul.
I'm gathering that.
You have no sympathy for the Chipmunk Rescue and Rehabilitation Society, I suppose.
All donations welcome.
lol. But I made a print of a chipmunk because they are so darn beautiful. See, I can be fair.
PHone...
I'd like them fine if they were properly rehabilitated. It's the recidivist chipmunks that get me down.
And back.
Ah well, maybe a hefty donation to the rehabilitation society will hasten the glad day when guttersnipe chipmunks are no more.
had a phone call -- my figs are dark brown, ruby
Hmph. They're probably using the money to build chipmunk training camps.
I don't think there are chipmunks in fr****; there doesn't seem to be a word for them. They call racoons, ratons laveurs or something.
mine are green and not so tasty
mine are green for quite a while . . . then turn brown
Wikipedia says chipmunks are native to North America and Asia.
ratons laveurs -- that's too funny! Makes sense -- they wash all their food :-)
this language has too many verbs and not enough nouns
Ruby, I have friends who have lots of raccoons around and they leave big bins of chunky dry dogfood for them . . . and the raccoons wash the chunks in a big bin of water right next to it LOL
We have a raccoon that sleeps in one of our trees periodically. It's always fun to have its company. It got into our garage once when we left the door open by mistake, and tore up the trash. but as long as we do what we're supposed to do, then it does what it's supposed to do and we get along just splendidly.
that is too cute! my sister lives in NYC and the raccoons come onto her deck and stair into her kitchen. They also open garbage cans!
stare* duh
en 6/30 plz last one
Maybe you could get that racoon to mentor the chipmunks - teach them some manners.
I wonder if there are any here?
oh, i wish . . .
en6/30 - en plus what the eager swimmer does to get into the water.
<<<<<<< one of my very polite bunnies
I don't know whether this is the last, but... ev6/30 - e + Mr Lombardi
Oh, oops. Misread request. Sorry!
Sorry, the last one is past tense of 'to be jealous'. Vicuna en6/30 Haz's chipmunk free status.
or wished that I had more wildlife
ty haz, thats it
You're welcome.
ty for the vegetable, haz
You're welcome.
Raccoons aren't native to Europe, but there are populations in the northern areas now. People got them started for the fur trade, apparently.
(Thanks, Haz.)
ruby, i discovered en**** when my ex-MIL made a baked ham, cheese, and en*** casserole -- delish!!
it was really expensive in the US but here, in January, it is one of the least expensive vegetables. I just saute them in butter and sprinkle a little balsamic vinegar
Oh, that sounds so good, ruby!
very tasty!
what kind of cheese, une?
and do you eat your figs with ham?
swiss
i eat my figs plain . . . in my mouth LOL
that sounds wonderful
well, gruyere
tangier
yay, Hootowl is coming to Nashville and wants to shop at Trader Joe's -- 'tis just a few blocks from me! :-)
hi again, all, short lunch break here
jealous!
OMG! Something just happened that I have never experienced before -the HOUSE SHOOK!!
where do you live??
Neighbors across the street also confirm the same, so it's not something in my house - must have been an earthquake
central NJ
Vicuna would probably blame chipmunks.
yikes, JBV!!
or an airforce jet going the speed of sound?
lasted for a good minute or more
Yikes, JBV! Maybe someone's doing blasting nearby?
Someone like... the CHIPMUNKS!
that is scary
my son just informed me there was an earthquake in Virginia - anyone here from VA?
Told you.
wow
and you could feel it in NJ!!!!
dcseain just posted about feeling one near DC
5.8 Earthquake in Virginia Felt in Washington, New York City, North Carolina
do they know how big yet?
good lord!!
My house just shook here in Niagara, in Ontario!
Oh shit, that was scary. Yes JBV, we felt it big and strong here.
I'm calling my sister
right, une has it
5.8 Earthquake in Virginia Felt in Washington, New York City, North Carolina
Wow. Ontario? I didn't feel a thing and I'm between Virginia and Ontario.
USGS earthquake page: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes /recenteqsus/Quakes/at00lqe6x3.php#det ails
it lasted long enough for my son to call me, to come upstairs and actually see the bookcase shaking
we felt it here in Chester County, PA
they evacuated the Pentagon -- it's on CNN
tiny url of USGS page: http://tinyurl.com/3fsv4qo
back in a mo
I just talked to my sister and she didn't know what was going on but it felt like her house was going to collapse
I'm in North Carolina and I. felt it.
where are you Molly?
First it just felt like when a big truck rumbles by, but there was no truck, and then it just kept on going
I've only felt little ones in Los Angeles
5.8 isn't little!!!!
I'm just north of DC in MD and my house shook for what seemed forever! Knocked one lamp over and I'm still shaky! It was accompanied by a loud rumbling noise and was worse than any I ever felt when I lived in CA. Hope that was is!
bye, I'm going up to turn on CNN
*it.
evacuated some of the museums in NYC
this is probably more interesting
It's been upgraded to 6.0
OMG!
initially people feared a bomb . . .
Do they expect more shocks, then?
they're warning of the possibility of aftershocks . . .
apparently the Obamas felt in at Martha's Vineyard :-)
Closer to Virginia they felt two shocks. We only felt one.
*it
Oh my, can you imagine being on the subway, underground, when that happened?
epicenter northwest of Richmond VA
anyone clue the fo6?
in Mineral, VA
fo6 - compound enemy male
tx haz
You're welcome.
There are a lot of people on vacation at Lake Anna in Mineral at the moment.
aha ty
hadn't heard this: The largest natural earthquake in Colorado in more than a century struck Monday night in the state’s southeast corner, but there had been no reports of damage or injuries. The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 and centered about nine miles from the city of Trinidad, hit at 11:46 p.m. local time.
jeezomeez
pcal - just heard that if you had damage from the first shock, it's possible you may also feel the aftershocks, can you evacuate quickly?
ma6/7 combo please?
ma6 - a male and the first letters of what the moon is supposedly made of. Plural for the ma7.
ty. would never have come up with that
aahh, sleeve en francais
and fr*** word for English Channel
back in a mo
Oh crap, USGS just reported a strong likelihood of aftershocks.
you ok, molly?
any clues for the oe6?
called mu dad (in NJ), he didn't feel it and is fine
If you alrady have the swollen ed5, put the o in front.
i do. and thank you.
No problem.
*my dad, sigh
I'm fine, just rattled, excuse the pun.
my sister is very shaken up, too
Is everyone OK
good night, everybody, stay safe!
The poor police. They are getting flooded with phone calls.
did you feel it, river?
we did - very gentle sway....it was my computer monitor that was moving from side to side that caught my attention
Nice to know I still have plenty of adrenaline and my fight or flight reflex is A-okay.
glad to hear that Molly
Nothing gentle here. It was a good three minute underground rumble, complete with pictures rattling and the building rattling.
Molyy, sorry if you have answered this before - Where are you located?
I'm about 30 miles from DC.
Have you ever been through an earthquake before?
could someone please clue the sa6's?
sa6 - start with the sa4/5 - end with the first two letters of the moon material
We had a minor one here last summer (3.5) but nothing major.
weird
sa6/36 - as before but end with the first two letters of the muddy coloured material worn by soldiers in battle.
word
This is the icing on the cake! We din't go to Idaho in the spring because we had power outages and flooding. Now we were planning to see woulf and we usually camp in Virginia on our way up! Why are they trying so hard to keep us from leaving this place!
All the monuments downtown have been evacuated and closed.
Has anyone heard from JMC?
doesnt DCSeain live in that area too?
Someone said he posted, but it wasn't here. Maybe on Facebook.
well, that was fun. i needed a little somethin to shake up my day!
Well, that was an interesting little jiggle.
DC just "liked" my FB status, so im guessing hes fine.
and you Eva - how are you?
What had you done to deserve his approval?
im fine. unfortunately back in the office already. *harumph*
So glad to know that it was just "you, rocking our world" Eva? Will there be aftershocks? : P
oh, nothing, haz. i may have just posted a little something along the lines of "It was't an earthquake. I was just rockin' your world." ;)
JBV: Sorry was gone for a bit. Only "damage" was one lamp fell over and, yes, I can evacuate fairly quickly. Thanks for asking.
There could be aftershocks. Wethere they'll be felt or not is anybodys guess.
Back shortly.
I feel bad for the people at The Pentagon. It must have been bad deja vous.
apparently it was felt up here...i didnt
Sorry, my computer just decided there's no internet here although my phone is still fine. Heard front dcseain on Facebook but not jmc.
I think JMC is out of town.
good!
Hopefully in a direction away from the épicentre.
Eva, are you creeped out about taking the subway home?
I've been trying to reach my Nephew in Richmond - no cell joy there.
Apparently there is no cell joy in a lot of places. Did you try emailing him? That is how I got in touch with my son.
And I don't know why my phone decided to spell that as if it were French but it didn't seem worth correcting.
a little. checking the metro website now -- which of course is getting spotty service, since a bajillion people are checking it all at once...
Channel 9 news is reporting no subway damage or problems so far. They are saying that trains will probably be delayed.
hi i'm back again, too - talking to my sister in putnam county NY - felt NOTHING!
i can get to metros main page, but not their earthquake update. fun times!
Amazing - earthquake on the east coast and they are still showing commercials!!!
ok, finally got to the page. all it says is that trains are running at 15mph while crews are checking tracks for damage and to expect delays.
well you know you will be late... but going in knowing you will be late... you just accept it and move forward...sucks..but
It's been reported that the East Coast need not expect any tsunamis. TSUNAMIS????? : O
who needs a tsunami when we have a hurricane headed our way??
could i get a clue for the first sa6/27?
Lots of shaking here on the Jersey Shore, but all okay.
also a clue for the sa6/36?
pots and pans rattlling, house swaying, oh my!
I know Eva and those damn I hurricanes are always nasty. Remember Isabel?
Was there a lot of damage in virginia? I am not seeing that.

you guys are getting earthquakes,we are getting tornados:(
I had serious earthquake damage at my office https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi d=10150252630521887
They are also reporting damage to The National Cathedral, which is one of the older buildings in town.
oh no! not the coffee!
2Bit, you should get AT LEAST a day off for that.
What a mess, dan! Hope you didn't get burned!
Hey Soodle. Thanks for checking in on your 'Merican friends.
ok kids, im gonna brave the commute. wish me luck!
Hi Moll. All well with you and yours?
Good luck Eva
Good luck Eva. They say 270 is already at gridlock stage. Hey Soodle, all is well. I think it's time for a drink though.
things are just a little weird here, I was on the phone with my sister-in-law in Puerto Rico checking to see if she had any hurricane damage when the shaking happened here !!!
I am SO glad I had the day off today.
Did Puerto Rico have damage JBV?
Just be careful, Molls. See what happened to Dan..... Safe journey home, Eva.
That damn hurricane is tearing up the Caribbean. I wonder if Richard Branson will fly me down to Necker Island to help with the clean up.
*Puts drink in a sippy cup*
I'm baaaaa-aaaack
to hopefully finish these last 66
well, she lives somewhat inland, she just said it's been raining non-stop, but no wind damage, I think in San Juan it was bad
Atta girl, Moll. Hey Kje.

I was just in San Juan in October...hope everyone is safe
British Virgin Islands, JBV.

I hav thunderstorms coming so bye for noe -bbl
ok here harp
ok here
I've been listening to BBC, getting news of Libya but nothing about Virginia.
No injuries reported from this so far, Harp. Thanks for asking.
I was thinking if there were major catastrophic things going on, the BBC would have mentioned it
crossy is glad all our southern buddies are reporting in safe:)
ch7/52?
it was 5.8 - enough to do some damage but likely will not have a lot of injury
ch 7/52 it be
5.8 at the epicenter... places like Baltimore were lower
they are reported 5.9 on TV here
to chase or to run after
same diff, peri
ty cross
np kje
Some structural damage is now being reported. Air traffic is on hold at several airports as well.
yes, 5.9 is official. Only reported major damage so far is the Fauquier Campus of Lord Fairfax Community College, which is closed until further notice due to structural damage.
glad you are ok dc. id Tom ok as well?
Minor damage to The National Cathedral and I just saw pictures of some in Tyson's Corner.
I don't think he woke up, as he has not said anything. How he slept through is beyond me. floor was galloping and walls were wobbling
post-shift?
scary that epicenter was near a nuclear power plant
bl
Near Lake Anna, yes. But the California plants have held up so far.
2 reactors taken offline . . .
most have sensors that detect quakes and auto-switch to offline cool down mode and generator standby
glad they w.ere taken offline and not more that that, at least thus far
such a coincidence that this was so close to 9/11 -- people in DC and NYC must have been so shaken . . .
no pun intended
literally shaken :) we were
here at the darlington site, they would leave it in shutdown mode as it takes time anyways for a total restart and do an entire system check then a cold restart
Thinking about MPittore. She vacations down by Lake Anna.
me thinks we shall be sending a lot of juice south the next week or so
Oh, i hope they're okay, seeing as the epicenter was in Louisa, a bit SW of Lake Anna.
Une, there are reports that people in The Pentagon were freaking out. Apparently, this sounded very similar to what happened that day.
Pentagon and Capitol workers were sent home immediately, and the whole of the Capital Area Federal Gov't has shut down.
airports were shut down as well . . .
One of the dudes on Channel 9 news said: When an earthquake happens, the epicenter is wherever you are. That is how it feels anyway. I was surprised to hear the epicenter was so far away.
Regarding the nuclear plants: A spokesperson with Calvert County Public Safety agency says there are no problems related to the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. The North Anna Power Station is located 8 miles from epicenter of the quake. According to the Louisa County government, the reactors tripped and shut down, which is how reactors are supposed to work in this situation. Federal officials say no damage reported. The Dominion-operated power plant is being run off of four emergency diesel generators, which are supplying power for critical safety equipment. Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Roger Hannah says the agency was not immediately aware of any damage at nuclear power plants in the southeast.
what i said...cool
things are very safe, japans was just too epic in scope
Hah! the Nat'l Zoo closed because of this.
i agree, crossy, re the reactors
Was it felt south of Virginia also? I'm only getting report from north. How is Georgia, etc?
I heard as far south as Chapel Hill, NC.
are there any fo words?
fo4/4
Never had my entire desk shake before!
two
the BIG news, world wide, is Libya. I didn't hear anything about the EQ on BBC
and fo6/30
... CBC news just reported it has been felt as far north as Sudbury ... 240 miles north of Toronto ... and east in the maritime provinces ... north of Maine
the usgs.gov site is interesting
... fo6/30 ... an enemy who is male
earthquake.usgs.gov
apparently I'm the kind of person who doesn't notice earthquakes.
Here's a bit of humor associated with the quake: (Yes, already.) http://jmckinley.posterous.com/dc-eart hquake-devastation
The only time I felt anything like that was when an entire house exploed several miles from my office. It felt like a truck hit the building.
no shaking up here, though the mrs did say that i rock her world:)
Well I spent the morning on a 16 foot ladder so I'm glad there was no earthquake in MOntana
ty for the rest of my Fs, doseffing
I really didn't notice anything.
crossy LOL
are there any ev words?
... careful Jane ... there was one north of Vancouver Island last week ...
... six of them
Wow, my husband lived in Sudbury. That is "up there" as far as Canada goes.
ev 8 9 9 6 7 7
... that's ev words
lol molly take the polar bear express trip up to moose factory and moosonee...nice trip it is
merci, une
yw :-)
If you marry the wrong person, can we say you are miswed?
... Sudbury isn't up there ... now Timmins which appears to have had a quake last week ... that's up there .... ... but then there was a plane crash in Resolute last week and that's only 1000 mi. from the North Pole
you have not lived till you have messed around on the northen ice roads
... Sudbury isn't even as far north as the 49th parallel
your markers are often old christmas tree frozen into the ice
good evening all
howdy sprite:)
evening, sprite
crossy :)
Miswed! This is what I get for barging in on a conversation.
i think your definition for miswed fits
DC, did you feel the EQ?
Really folks, I am not completely ignorant of Canadian geography. Let me clarify. Wow, Sudbury is a lot further north than Ontario and Toronto (which are places that report not feeling anything from this earthquake)
ontario is the province itself molly and sudbury resides within it
Mr Kostner is in here.
weeeee! did the earth move for you molly?
Oh yes indeed, kaplan! the walls were shaking, and i think the th corner fo the kitchen is out fo square now
i am in harrisonburg VA and we felt it here too
i am 1 hour south of smelly sudbury and the big nickle
... the shock waves take the shortest route through the sphere of the planet ... so they'll show up in one spot and then not for another long distance ....
I feel the earth -move-under my feet
Back again
I feel the sky tumbling down
hi, hego
Glad to hear Je and seain are okay.
I feel my heart start to trembling whenever you're around...
tumbling dowwwwn
Hi Kap
oh kap i bet you say that to everyone!
Good harmony Je. lol
does anyone else besides me feel that Carole King's lyrics are not as clever as Cole Porter's?
Sorry, meant Ottowa, not Ontario.
Hi hego.
lol je :)
lol
Ooh baby when I see your face
I agree Kap.
ottowa ontario those canadian cities are all the same
Mellow as the month of May-----really now.
But we are throwbacks.
lol Kap
Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it...
ohhhh, the girls are playing plinko, and the boys are getting stinko..everybodys drinking on a sudbury saturday night...good ole stomping tom commers
Ontario, California is a city that gets earthquakes sometimes.
... hey ... at least we're not like Boston with 14 streets named Washington ...
... and we don't have any place named Springfield either ...
the Dutch in old Amsterdam do it, not to mention the Finns
lol, jmc, glad to see you notice us waaaay up here
lol you should see all the springfields in the US
Folks in Siam do it---think of Siamese twins!
USA has about 8 Springfields.
Argentines without means do it
birds do it bees do it even educated fleas do it
Hello everyone!
lol,i imagine they do
I live near Ox Road, West Ox Road, Little Ox Road, Old Ox Road, and a different Ox Road nowhere near the others.
Let's do it! Kap
they say in Boston even beans do it...
Interesting stories being reported about animals/pets sensing this thing before it happened. Dogs getting under beds and whining, etc.
we have an oxbow park road here dc
hey i would visit you crossy but the canadian border has always been a problem for me--i always get stopped for about an hour
Massachusetts has Sudbury, Springfield, Salem, Many Washington Streets...
probably ols socks under the beds, if I know dogs
Molly..my cat was in the house and he wouldn't go out into the garage when i opened the door.
... in Ontario ... almost every city, town and village has a John Street ... ... but I've never found anyone who could tell me who John was
Hi, mark
He just stood there and looked at me.
mayor bloomberg is now speaking spanish at his press conference!
I DIDN'T FEEL THE EARTH MOVE!!!

several people standing next to me here in va didn't notice it
... ole!
YOU WERE NOT DOING IT RIGHT THEN KAplan
hey Hego, jmc, JBV, Sea Spray and all
he's been studying, dc, he's not too bad!
LOL..damn fat fingers of mine
Hey sprite
How do you not notice an earthquake?
Hiya Spritey!
it must have been stronger her than there then, jmc. you could not help but notice it here. The birds and cicadas have not started up gain, so i'm betting on an aftershock
Crossy...!!!
i think you are right it was stronger there dc
:)
You are right dc...no birds chirping here either
uh-oh
what do they care, they can fly!
just look at what your dog or cat is doing...
God! Look at all these r's!!
Cat finally went out and came back in...he ususlly stays out
the birds and insects are only quiet when there's gonna be a sever storm, hurricane, tornado, or earthquake. So something's gonna happen.
licking his you-know-what, crossy?
... there is always an aftershock ... the question is how much structural damage occured with the original quake ... the more serious damage happens with the aftershock even though it's weaker than the original ... ... stay near strong doors
my cat is still in hiding next to a window.
I agree dc
if he burps,hit the deck!
lol
lol crossy
well go stand in a door way--
Oh, Crossy
actually, outside is best, get a good book and a bottle of vino and grab a nice patch of grass
in an open field
yep, one corner of kitchen out of square and the ceiling and a wall are warped.
that way there is not crap to fall on ye
Me and my laptop under a tree. ahh
that is a good advice
nice, hego :)
lol
Open the vindo?
anybody got any ra's?
No- go fish.
:-P
I do actually- a kind of salad dressing.
we ra5 the roof, and ra4 too. ra4 to the finish, plus two ra5s
lots of ra words
and variations of the salad dressing.
Hmm, birds and crickets chirping here.
hmmmm salad dressing...
one child downstairs has not stopped screaming or crying since the quake. it's getting tiresome
hidden valley, hego
Time for some paragoric.
AHA!
Like a land spread in Texas Hego. The Ponderosa was one.
Two and a half hours of screaming and crying? Ouch.
my husband is watching Bonanza right now!!
reagan's Ra6 del Cielo is there too
*Has Bonanza theme playing in her head now*
Lorne Greene!
lol molly
ty for the clues folks
the ice cream truck that plays It's a Small World and La Cucaracha just went by.
lucky you. And a kid crying too.
It's a Small World and La Cucaracha? Interesting.
it's a looping medley of the too, very strange.
er, of the two
oh well, back into the grid
yum cucaracha ice cream
OG*** me a home...where the buffalo roam...
it is definitely a small world for that cucaracha, in that ice cream truck.
where the d*** and the antelope play...
and I almost put myself in the PB that time.
Where seldom is heard
a discouraging word...
i never would have gotten that og. ty Kap
are you singing the song in reverse?
cause what can an antelope say.....
and plural, hego
Play, not say.
yup
about what a giraffe says i think
That would be a discouraging word, I think.
yup
"I wish I didn't have to drop my child at birth all this way down?"
I found the og by accidental monkeys...
huh?
Huh?
what the giraffe said
huh?
weird sprite
oh!
Ha!
heh
oh
hahaha sprite
Snort!
yeah, weird taken out of context :)
but it was in context
when i taught a 3rd grade class sign language i used the sign for giraffe to get them to be quiet
oh nice one
A spokesman for Washington National Cathedral says at least three of the four pinnacles on the central tower have fallen off and the central tower appears to be leaning.
Holy moley!
yikes! and they just finished the damn thing 10 years ago
hi again all, finished the second round of book-buying for the kid, up to about $300 now (with the faculty discount). Good thing I didn't have to buy his physics book.

Just what i was thinking, jmc

hi Mark
Yo Mark
hi, mark
my daughters rand 5 and 6 hundred a semester, and some of those were used
It makes me sad about The National Cathedral. I think that is one of the most amazing pieces of architecture in the city.
wow, dc, that is wretched about the cathedral!
Hmmm, listening to Joseph. Interesting music.
agreed, molly
class went well, hego, and there were two more people than I was expecting, which was nice
it is a beautiful building but i am sure they can fix it
yes, that one is interesting musically, mark
however it was pouring rain and I decided I am done with trying to dress up - I don't do it well anyway and the students don't care
uu, it doesn't look like it is going to get any better outside.

Nats game delayed tonight. I wonder if that is because of the traffic problems.
bye Sprite. congrats
The Nats being Nationals?
Oh wow. Apparently some sprinkler systems were set off by the earthquake and many area townhomes are flooded.
Hmmm, I have really been off the news. Sorry, you have to explain. What earthquake?
School Mark? college, high school?
big quake Wash DC
High school
ahhh, what grade?
earthquake in Virginia, about 90 miles from DC, was felt over a very wide area of the country for whom quakes are very rare
No damage except the house of DC Sceain. lol

it was pretty small quake compared to destructive ones in Japan or Haiti
5.9 richter
the cathedral, lord fairfax fauquier campus, and a few other buildings were damaged.
Ouch. I didn't feel it.
my spell checker hates the word Fauquier LOL
Update being given on Irene's path at 5 o'clock

FEMA has requested that people stay off their cell phones except for emergencies. Good luck with that. Considering all the cell phone addicts there are out there.
much damage there? my bro's coworker has proerty ner the epicenter and a barn on his property fell
Like that will happen.
That is very unlucky.
lol if they say no internet, how many of yu ill still babble? *raises hand*
*raises hand quietly*
uh oh, i am late to dinner, glad all are sa4 bbl
bye to
Later
well, that's what I don't understand. On campus here they want us all to sign up for alerts in case of emergency. Wouldn't sending out alerts to thousands of people be exactly the wrong thing to do in an emergency?
THat would definitely be a very bad thing to do.
I suppose they are text alerts, and perhaps the phone company has a way of handling mass texts in a way that doesn't shut them down, but it still seems odd.
Seriously. Whatever did people do in natural disasters before cell phones? I'm guess they took care of those immediately around them, which is what you should do. I'm envisioning people texting and tweeting while debris falls all around them.
Most people would do that.
Cute xkcd comic about exactly that: http://xkcd.com/723/
Very funny. I also clicked on the next one. Very cute.
Good nite kids. I'm done for today. Have a good one and no more shaking!
See you later hego.
I love xkcd :-)

I am pretty well, however I just finished a cold. I am all fine now. And you?
hi, stid!
Thank you all
LOL I just got over a summer cold too!
hey sue!
I am well, Mark, thanks. I am applying to a few jobs, waiting to really jump in until later in the school year, though.
good luck, stid!
Sounds good to me!
thanks sue -- as long as the sun shines I am just as happy unemployed! LOL
I ne4 the y for nbt. Help please?
something you might say if you stepped in something gross, mark
hebrew letter Y I think is one, yo 4/8
... yodh
and a sound like "ick" ye 4/8
... oops
that would be one of them, dos :-)
... and I've been so careful for so long ...
THanks dose...
LOL dos!
It happens to everyone, dose
thanks stid, NBT!
go Mark go!
Hi Stid, good luck on the job hunt...I am sure you will find one soon
... and the first one is the nasty taste left in the mouth after you eat the humble pie for spelling second one
lol, dos!
I am not worried until the student loans come due in January... but am certain by then I will be earning enough to pay them off AND start saving toward retirement.
Good for you, Stid.
how are you Annie?
... good luck on that ...
I am fine and I hope you are too.
*Rocking out to Duran Duran*
I love that there are TWO borealis pics for icons today. :-D
... teaching jobs here are as rare as dragon's teeth
I know, uu has one. :)
But I got it 23 years ago, Mark...
OK then, you have Annie beat. Oh well.
sitting here, listening to three teens gossiping about mutual acquaintances... *sigh* their relationships are highly fluid!
and so I must start thinking about dinner..bye dear babblers
I know the deal.
Bye Annie!
bye, annie!
that's pretty rare, dos -- where I WANT to work actually has a one-year slot open and I am applying; hard to get a foot in the door since teachers generally stay until retirement. However... I am willing to work in a nearby district that has trouble retaining teachers.
see you again soon annie!
why do they have trouble, stid? Students, administration....(students are probably easier to deal with)
OK, I have to go too. Early dinner time, and my sister's volleyball game tonight. I will see y'all later. *poof*
btw, nice post about the quake with some detailed technical information: http://blogs.agu.org/2011/08/23/the-mi neral-va-earthquake-of-august-23-2011/
poor district, sue -- rural and hard to get to in the winter if/when it snows. I don't mind investing in 4WD if I get employment there, and live close enough that it doesn't require relocation.
ah, that should be ok then.
I won't work more than 25-30 minutes away unless it's for an administrator I really like. There are only a few of those. LOL
later Mark!
THAT I can understand :-)
... you mean there are administrators who you like? ... a rare bird indeed ...
well, *I* was a perfectly *wonderful* administrator :-) (probably why my superiors didn't want me to keep the job)
there are two that I greatly admire, and several others who are quite good, dos! I feel blessed to live in an area like this, but some of the administrators are in districts that are not too my liking.
LOL sue! I am sure you were WONDERFUL!
my mother worked for a few doozies when she was a kindergarten teacher, though
yes, I would be careful who I worked for if I had a chance. My only problem with larger districts is that generally you go where you are assigned in the first few years, and the larger districts around here have some schools that are much too far for me to commute on a regular basis.
ah, the teens have departed... *enjoys blessed silence*
are you gearing up for the new school year sue?
nice, stid (the quiet, that is)
oh, I'm geared, all right, we started yesterday!
wow! that was quick! didn't you only just start your summer vacation?
seems like :-)
no, we finished the second week of May, but my son took summer school (and most of the summer got used up by his issues)
LOL the local K-12 begin Sept 6 or 7 around here, the community college a week later and the state college a week later still
so we took a week to go visit my dad after summer school ended, which was only two weeks before the regular semester started
oh, I see -- I guess that is what confused me, I knew he was still taking courses
when I was in college we started in late September - that would be nice...
and how is your dad doing? I am keeping him on my list just in case
oops. *sits in PB with lovely choclits from Russia*
oh, he's great, stid, not happy about the divorce but otherwise fine
he's walking without a cane or anything, even hiked about half a mile with us when we were there (although that was enough for him)
and with that I will join you in the PB :-)
I am so pleased he is walking okay! Sorry about the divorce, but probably it's for the best in the long run.
Yes, he's gotten used to the idea even though it doesn't make him happy - he's hung pictures of my mom up and has done some work around the house
ah, Mother is here. We are going to the little fruit stand down the road. I harvested a couple pounds of figs today, so she will like those. Back later! *poof*
bye, stid!
Sue, I hope to some day have the fortitude that your Dad has. So glad to hear he's doing well.
I had several "firsts" today. Ate my first fresh fig. Experienced my first earthquake. And ate my first "congealed" salad.
m
me too, molly! (sorry, kid arrived to bring me home)
love fresh figs!!
bea, you're obviously not a Southerner . . . your first congealed salad?? LOL
me too, une! I am jealous - can't grow figs here
No, I am from the midwest where we have jello salad. LOL!
i have a tree in a giant pot -- had a few figs this year -- need a big muscle man to dig a hole in the tree roots and rocks so I can get it in the ground! :-)
that's on my list of tasks for the Angie's List gardener I'm gonna hire . . . he'll also weed in the bed with all the poison ivy!
<--- Gags at the very idea of congealed salad.
is there a difference between a jello salad and a congealed salad??
what *is* congealed salad, anyway? (I am also not a southerner)
salad in a mold . . . usually with a jello base
sometimes with cream cheese and nuts . . .
oh. So what we would call a jello salad, pretty much.
No difference between Jello salad and congealed salad except what you call it.
or just different fruits . . .
aahhh, ok
makes an appearance at every southern potluck!!
and church dinners! LOL
I've had lots of jello salads. Just never had them called congealed salads.
Yes, I've seen lots of them, like bea, never called them that
i'm a BAD southerner -- have never made a congealed salad :-)
I alsways make deviled eggs.
Une, dahlin', I would nevah, evah call you a bad Southern Woman.
good solution, bea!
molly * howling with laughter*
en6 is anagram of en6 leafy vegetable
Although today, I took an Asian Asparagus Salad.
i'm a southerner who hates congealed salads, though i've eaten some in my day to be polite
you'll never set foot in a tearoom that doesn't serve them :-)
You can't even feed those things to the dog under the table.
harris teeter learned rather quickly that we don't eat those hear and stopped putting them on the salad bar and stopped selling them in the deli.
oh, i have a Beagle mix who'll eat ANYTHING!
seain, that's hilarious!
here, not hear. my letters musta got rattled in the earthquake LOL
*Chuckling that DC thinks he's a Yankee*
how are you doing, dc? Has your cat emerged yet?
need to realign those synapses, seain :-)
she has. even darted into a closet the moment i opened it :)
i heard an NPR report from a vet -- all the cats were cowering in their litter boxes!
and the dogs just shook it off :-)
mine hid behind a box on a windowsill in the room with her litterbox in it.
Oh no Une. I heard several reports that dogs were hiding under beds right before and their owners were wondering why.
one of my dogs loses her mind every time we have thunder -- I can only imagine her reaction to an earthquake!!
my sister's ma-in-law's dogs were cowering in corners of the basement for hours
They said on the news that the mounted police in DC had problems with antsy horses about five minutes before the tremors there.
i believe it, molly -- my scaredy cat dog definitely senses when a big storm's on the way
awwww, poor horsies . . .
that makes sense, bea
and the US Park Police have lots of horses.
and all the congealed salads jiggled!!! LOL
so does DC's Metropolitan Police
LOL une :)
My dog who is afraid of EVERYTHING, was napping and opened one eye and scowled at me. Like it was my fault!
too cute, bea :-)
nice blog post about the quake, with lots of geeky details: http://blogs.agu.org/mountainbeltway/2 011/08/23/the-mineral-va-earthquake-of -august-23-2011/
and a tiny url for it: http://tinyurl.com/43e4r5a
Hello all...
thanks, sue -- interesting but very sue-like in its majorly science geek bent! LOL
Hey, Jellen
hey, jellen :-)
Glad all of my East Coast Babble buddies seem to be okay...
hi, jellen!
and I warned you, une :-)
felt small tremors here, desk was shaking and the chair i was sitting in
oh, you did -- i missed "geeky details" LOL
hi, jellen, ivesy, uusue
evening all
hi, ivesy and dc (again)!
ivesy, what's your library dream job?
i've been all in and out all day.
Had a bit of a teary moment today...finally got a cremation urn for Tim in the mail today and went to order a plaque for it...
{{{{{jellen)))))
((((jellen))))
{{{jellen}}}
ivesy's a librarian?
aawww, that had to be rough, jellen . . .
group hug for jellen!
i always wanted to work at the library. when retired , i applied and got in .. i work with the little ones mostly, but also bar code books, modify them etc. i love it
cool! I love volunteering at our local and downtown libararies!
I'm a former librarian...
my daughter is Fr** language reference libarian at UMich
i can walk to work, its just around the corner. dont have to get up at 330 in the morning anymore
and they're sending her in October to the Frankfurt book fair
then to Paris to meet with 2 book distributors
so proud!!
ooh, une, that is so cool!!!
cool jellen! were u director. or a clerk
Ooh, cool!
I was a children's librarian, then a school librarian...
sue, on top of THAT, her intern last year was a young French student and that's who she'll stay with in paris!!
cool, jellen!
*swooning with envy*
I also did consulting work and freelance research...
thats great. didnt know i would work in the childrens room ,didnt think i would like it. but those kids take your heart... 3 and 4 year olds taking books out.
excellent, jellen!
I just called today about auditing a class on online information retrieval to upgrade my skills...
ma 6/27 2nd one plz
right up her alley, jellen! She got her master's in library science and information systems
I loved preschool storytime at the public library...
Yeah, I have my MLIS, too...
she really enjoys teaching students how to do online research
jellen's just the bee's knees! :-)
language is the best . . .
we just finished our summer program. out of the libraries in the county i think ours was the only one that had an activiy every day.. i had a luau theme. kids loved it. first time i was in charge of something like that
Awww, shucks!
ivesy, it's so wonderful that you're helping kids realize what a fabulous and fun resource libraries are!
hi all
Hi, peri
having trouble with the de words
hey, peri
well done ivesy!!! :-D
((((((Jellen)))))) must have been a tough day for you
i think I came out of the womb reaching for a book! LOL
hey again all
hi, peri!
hi stiddy
and hi again stid!
hey, stid :-)
Hi, stid
I LOVE words and books and my great niece does too. she is 8 and loves to read!!!
i have one little guy, has some health issues. he gave me a bracelet he was wearing. i wear it everyday, in case he comes in.
wait, she is still 7 until NOve :)
i love to read. working there really saves me money lol
Stid, I'm following in your footsteps...thinking about going back to school...
de5 jeans material, de6 remove beach granules, de6 insist . . .
ivesy, that is sooo sweet
why Jellen? *anguished mama look* DON'T DO IT!!! *puts up warning flags and flares everywhere*
... don't forget de5 ... late night coffee
peri, I give nothing but books to my great-niece :-)
Aw, ivesy, that's so special!
ty Une. and I am wearing de*** jeans as I type!
ugh, don't like de5 late-nite coffee
I always give books as gifts even to infants and little kids
... only drink the wide awake all night stuff myself
actually, I suppose if you get into the right school/program it wouldn't be so bad... I just had a bad experience which may not be representative of all grad schools.
I think I would like to teach at the college level...need at least another master's degree to do that...
peri, that's so funny -- I'm meeting my brand new great-nephew on Thursday and I've wrapped a board book for him! LOL
(he's 3 wks old!)
always books... and occasionally really cool dexterity games or logic games... :-D
Yay for Une!
and the computers. these kids come in at 3yrs old and know how to use them.. we only allow 30 mins. want them to read!
What do you want to teach, Jellen? Teaching college seems like it would be very different from K-12 since it's a voluntary decision by students.
I buy a lot of books for me and for the kids at thrift stores and libraries. I bought my great nephew a book about Thomas the Train that made sounds when you pushed buttons. He loved that book. Cost me %0 cents at goodwill
crossy is tablet babbling!!! yaaa!
There's a university 45 minutes from me that offers a MA in English with a technical writing emphasis...
yay, crossy!
50cents even
peri, same here -- buy most of my gifts at the big library sale in Spring and Fall
Yaaa for crossy!
that would be really cool, Jellen - I have been thinking that my next move should be coursework in either writing or linguistics. both useful as a teacher, and both things I enjoy.
in fact since I help with the sale, i even get a $10 voucher!
must finish! back for my last 17 (said that earlier andn did't happen)
i just loaded pile of free books from gutenberg for the tablet
I like goodwill -- got two skirts and a jacket for me there just today!
Hi, kje
ok, I am super tired (and it's only day 2 of the semester!!!). I am going to go put my feet up and read (since we are talking about books :-)
see you all later!

i am currently using russet taters

d
Fireworks at last.
Congratulations inge on your fireworks! Good for U!
I would have a hard time with a netbook. My eyes would fry on a 10 inch screen and I would never be able to type on that tiny keyboard.
Amen, MollyL.
Hello gapeach1066!How are you? Welcome to puzzle
Have you had a good day? Are you anywhere near the earthquake area? I felt a couple of jolts but thought it was the quarry blasting.
iveys, plural the sc6.27
Hi there, Min.
I'm good Peach. Felt big thundering shudders this afternoon, but I'm very grateful that there was no serious damage, injury or loss of life.
Oh, yes.
I looked at a netbook once. It said it had a "chiclet" keyboard. Chiclet?
How are you doing Peach?
I'm OK, Molly. Just have my days and nights turned around. Most agravating. I missed last summer and most of this. Are you well?
I am well Peach, thanks. Sorry you have your days and nights turned around. That is a hard thing to "recreate". I wish you well doing that. Sending some positive energy your way.
Oh, thanks so much, Molly. It does work.
Right now, I need to go outside, sit on the ground and send some positive energy to Ma Earth. She's been very rumbly and grumbly the past few days.
Indeed.
Hello lbdawger! How are you doing?Welcome to grid
I'm stopping at 200 words and 2976 points. Bye to all
I might be back later on to help clue.Adios for now.
Last en6, please?
pt of being green with en**
Thank you dawg! My last word.
congrats Bea. and hello everyone.
Night
whooo hoooo bzzz
hellow everyone,
help please with the de7,48
howdy red
calling all cooking babblers! im making mashed potatoes from scratch for the first time ever -- how long should i be boiling my taters? i am using fingerling potatoes, so theyre already relatively small...
til they're soft but not mushy eva
de 7/48 - a mythological being who is partly divine and partly human; an inferior deity.
how long does THAT take?
bout 30 min for small tates
start checking them after 20 min.
cook until soft. poke with fork if it goes in and comes out easily they are done. around 1/2 hour in boiling water.
then add a dolop of milk and a pat of butter
Depends on how hot your water is boiling and your altitude and other stuff. The trick is to keep tasting until they're right, and then you have an idea of how long it takes in your home.
thanks
allrighty then. will check on them in 20 minutes. do i need to stir them?
no
crossy was borm mking mashed lol'
not usually
Not if you have enough water. If they're not fully covered by water, YES.
they are more than fully covered. thanks all! i know i can always turn to the chog when i have cooking questions. :D
You're totally good. Keep boiling until they're soft, than mash your little heart out. ;)
i was at least S-M-R-T enough to buy a masher...hehe
make sure to add butte and milk
that you were
A masher is totally the way to go. You just can't do a decent job with a fork and a strong arm.
i DO often like to torture myself with a fork + a strong arm, but not this time...hehe
indeed,must hve a mashr
stats for a 9 please
Eva, mash the potatoes before you add anything. Butter or milk. That will help keep the lumps to a minimum.
excellent. good tip -- thanks molly!
i can see i have a learning curve typing with this tablet
I mash them twice - once plain, then again after adding the butter and milk
ev 9/90 and 9/84 (relatd to ev 8/65)
It's an old grandma tip. Works wonders. And yes to what Wild said. Mash once plain, then once after your add ins.
ty
don't have the ev8, clue please?
chives are a great add in'
it might be admissible in a court of law
garlic crossy
In a court of law you offer ev8 to support your case
ty samantha
and wild
im using a specific recipe this time, but once ive tried this one, i will know how i want to tweak them. making my first-ever "shephard's pie" -- i used quotes, since it is beef, not lamb, and therefor really a cottage pie.
hi all
nbt/nbs
how fun eva. do let us know how it turns out
bbs
Ooohhhh, I do love me a cottage pie
Lamb is icky. You are better off with beef.
Hiya jess
hello all!
And kudos to you Eva for putting real mashed potatoes on your Shepherd's Pie. My neighbor puts the instant on hers. I almost gagged when she told me that.
Molly, you have *ahem* a more developed palate than I. I can tell the difference, and I have a definite preference, but I don't hate the instant; I just prefer the "real".
rofl... came home to the kids (stidkid #2 and two friends) watching the original "Arthur" movie. So much fun.
(1) lamb is FABULOUS. for shame, molly! (2) im following the recipe for the first time, but i may get lazy if i wanna do it again...lol. but i figured sicne ive never made real mashed potatoes before, i may as well try!
Sam, for me it's the difference between goop and potatoes.
Hi Babble
DR!!! how's the the play going?
I just consider them two different foods, like the difference between watermelon flavor and real watermelon, or between roast beef and hummus . . . that is, they're just different.
Hi Stid- IT is going well! Thanks for asking
:-D so glad to hear it. our local thespian is enjoying having so much time to himself.
He does pretty well considering no formal training; some of the kids are amazing
Lamb is icky.
Are you a picky eater in the George Carlin sense of the word, Molly?
This week we are in a Drama audition workshop for kids sicne the next show is a drama and they are all musical theater kids
I spelled it wrong- do I still go to the PB?
oh, that sounds like a great idea!
No, *but* you get to partake of the wine and cookies therein.
It's pretty much the best of all worlds.
TY SamanthaJoy.- I could use some wine
mmmmm. wine. sounds like plan! LOL
Jacob says he doesn't care if he gets into the next play. he wants to go back to karate on a more regular basis I think
Well, we've decided. Everyone to my house, half an hour from now. I have wine and I can make cookies. WHO IS IN??!?!?
I AM SO IN!!!
me me me me! (no kids, right?)
All you have to do is get to Central Texas in the next day or so. That's not a problem, right?
Love your icon btw
ME 2
where in TX?
Well, there are no kids on the premises. I do have an excess of dog crates if you decide to bring them. (kidding, kidding)
I know someone who just dropped his daughter at Texas Tech and drove home. 12 or 13 hours he said
Hi folks
Not a picky eater at all. I just like "real" food. And I'm not much on meat that smells funny.
Hi Origami and Wildcat
wildcat, I'm in "A Little Town You've Never Heard Of, About 20 miles NW of Austin in the Hill Country"
and Molly
ok, just checked taters, and giving them at least another 10 minutes.
hi hi
hey origami and wild!
i guess its just whatever youre used to. i grew up eating lamb. i dont think it smells funny at all.
try me. I live in Round Rock
Hey DR.
Burnet? Liberty Hill? what??
hm someone's here. back in a moment.
12 or 13 hours to Texas Tech is almost certainly within the same state. He might *conceivably* be in New Mexico, but it's ulilklely.
Liberty Hill. You've heard of it? I'm impressed. Are you local?
hi dr and stiddy
uh huh. you've heard of Round Rock?
we're neighbors Samantha
My husband works at Dell, so, yeah. ;)
San Diego Samantha- He was kicking the gas pedal I think
Send me your address; I'll invite you to our next party.
oh my that he was DR
:)
you on fb sam?
WHOA HE DRIVES FAST. And yet, this is the funny part--more than half is drive was in Texas.
Samantha Joy, yes I am.
I guess I'm picky about when I eat though. Eating dinner after 9PM would keep me up all night.
Someone in El Paso is closer to San Diego than they are to me (or wildcat).
k I'll find you. My name is Lisa and I have a black kitty for profile pic
He was driving at night like 2 in the morning
I have an orange kitty! And you know my name.
Molly, so far as I can tell I don't work on a 24 hour day because I'm an alien. Dinner is "when I'm hungry". But I sympathize with you people on schedules; it's about as limiting to your life as my lack of schedule is to mine.
orange kitty on black background? think i found you
Oh I don't consider it limiting at all. Just the way I like to do things.
Yep. I call that pic "flamecat"
k I'm friending you now
Really? You don't turn down offers of all night activities because you can't stay awake?
Um, I have no interest in all night activities. Again, it's just the way I like to do things. I'm glad your way works for you.
No, I'm not denigrating your way. I'm saying that it is inherently limiting, as any given "way" is. I make probably less $$$ than you do, for the freedom of working from home when I'm awake, for example.
No problem. Didn't take it as denigrating. As I said, I don't feel limited at all. I live my life the way I choose to live it. And that works just fine for me.
Why wildcat! I've justconfirmed a friend request! Pleasedameetchu!
pleasure is all mine
*heh*. I live my life the way I choose to live it too, but I'm aware that my biology has a large impact on my destiny, here. If I were inherently on a 24 schedule, which I honestly don't seem to be, my life would likely be very different. It just so happens that I 'choose' to live my life in a way that just so happens to coincide with my biology--WHODA THUNK IT?
And the fact that I don't particularly want to work a 9 to 5, nor do I have to, is gravy. My life is limited by the fact that I would find it very hard to, as your life might be limited by not being able to work the hours that professional live-theatre types with their late night Th, Fri, and Sat nights demand.
ch 7/52 please.. and Hi everyone

Well then Ru, you are unlimited. Cruise on brother.
i'm really stuck on these d's

Komawoyo. I am a peasant. I have just Hyundaied a lot.
type of coffee ruru
Komawoyo?
that shouldn't keep you awake at night
thanks, dian
:-)
that's not coffee
I agree lol
It's thank you in Korean Peri. Hyundais are Korean cars. And they are really good cars, no matter what people say about their *cough* inferior fire walls.
(picks up extra mesquite chips for Molly's BBQ)
ok, now I know a Korean word. Almost bought a Hyundai but bought a Honda instead.
last ca6?
Wow...I guess I'll just roast like a heretic then. Will there be a crowd? And partying in the streets?

okay. am done complaining now
how are are they now, Doren?
asleep! how am I though, that is the question?
sounds like you have had a full day, Doren
oh my goodness yes. but we are definitely creating lots of happy memories, and i think that's wht grandmas are supposed to do. + their parents have never slept a night alone without kids in five years, so i think they deserved it
I'm asleep too. Nite all
sleep sweet, wildcat
that's wonderful Dorens.
nite lisa
fireworks for me too
i ran into friends of theirs today in a bird sanctuary... their daughter is in Levi's day care... and they think Jeremy and Liz owe me an hour's visit with a masseuse at the very least (my back has seen better days)
yay peri!
night all, enjoy the rest of your stay, Doren
yay peri!
night peri...
night all
sleep sweet, peri
fireworks here too !
yay diane!
(wow, i'm way behind you folks... still have 110 words to go!)
thanks jes... :-)
yay diane! i'm still working hard to get to half way, so you're at leasgt ahead of me jes
and just an observation re: the scoring. I just noticed it last week.... if you don't play the game, or even sign in, you still lose one point !
But Dorens... you had a FULL day !!
for anyone who was wondering, i finally finished the mashed potatoes, and they came out pretty darned good!
guess it's a good thing i don't care about score then, diane! there are a lot of grids i've skipped
hi eva.... I love your cooking comments !
hah diane, that is an understatement. probably a normal day for a young mom who's husband is away for three days... but not a single grandma!
hah, thanks diane. im a novice home chef. ;)
I deep fried zuchinni for the first time; hubby said it was pretty good--hard to cook things you don't like!
ru, you still around?
Well, I had finally got my score to 1030.... hadn't missed a grid in ages, but then missed a couple of days because we were away, and one day my internet was down. ... but it's okay... I just wanted to see if I could do it !!
mc -- i made zucchini enchiladas a few weeks ago, and they were YUMMY! (im the one who doesnt like zucchini)
admit i'm a slave to those stupid rankings too
i love zucchini.. any way you can imagine (except boiled)
same here - trying to get back up after being on vacation
I don't like it either--kind of like oysters; I'll cook them but hubby has to clean up the mess!
I love zucchini... steamed with lots of fresh parmesan on it. I also have a great recipe for zucchini squares ( appetizer )
to make the enchiladas, you just grate the everliving crap out of them. i dont even remember the rest, i just remember that grated zucchini = much less icky.
sauté in olive oil (add butter for extra flavor) with garlic and s & p.. simple and delicious
add fresh herbs if you have them.... i like tarragon and chocolate mint (when they're growing in my yard)
just heard a pretty funny joke, anyone wanna hear it
sure
President Obama has announced that the fault under DC that caused today's earthquake is called "Bush's Fault"

holy ouchies, ruru!
hi seain. all recovered from your severe earthquake damage?
well, the corner now out of square in kitchen will wait a while for repair.
Culpepper, Louisa, and parts of Fauquier near Warrenton got the most damage.
hey all. sounds like you had a wild ride back east earlier!
VA building codes were not updated for earthquakes til 1970
but, we're set for hurricanes
muahahahahahaha i have found ev words! (well, some of them)

LOL jes.
hi, mrp
and doren and BR et al :)
ruru knee?? *sad mama look*
go jes go!
hi mr p
I took Lucky to our local vet today -- just had a gut feeling his cut paw wasn't healing properly. I was right. He has a small infection starting. So cephalexin for 10 days and watch it closely. *sigh* why are dogs so expensive? for that matter, why are kids so expensive?
poor Lucky . . .
stid... we are put on this planet to get crap from our parents in the first part of our lives, and crap from our children in the second part
he'll be okay Une -- at the moment I am quite unhappy with him. He found a "wonderful" smell that he brought home on his neck ruff. *ick fa4*
they're only expensive because you like them. if you didn't ca4, you wouldn't spend money on them. :)
welll, as you know, that's just a dog "thing" :-)
wait till te third part mrP. parents live long enough to give you crap again while you're takikng care of them
oh joy dorens!
Clue for the sa6,36, please
that's true jes... :-D though I suspect if I were smarter I'd have had him in the day he cut it. and if I were REALLY smart I'd have a doggy shower in the back yard so I could bathe him more regularly. LOL
hey wht!
looking for it right now, wht.
I have sa 6/27 that is like a "wise man" but no 6/36
sa 6 -- ditto + ghengus **an
bag + bottom of pant leg
I need the sa6/36 and the ch7,52 for fireworks. Good thing I am not obsessing about this.
thanks BR!
thanks, bab
ch7 is past tense of a ford competitor
ty for those
tx jes!
ty RB. what language is that?
ty jess. Fireworks
dictionary says it's a hebrew letter, wht.
yay wht!
Hebrew is all Greek to me.
congrats, wht!
Tom is cooking supper tonight. Yesterday I did fried baked chicken wings and green bean casserole and he made sweet potato fries... LOVE being home to cook.
YAY wht!
on ya wht
Tonight I think it's going to be noodles and red sauce.
stid.. i'm in martha's vineyard with the grandkids and no adults. haven't cooked this much in a while.
I ought to be getting some rest. First an earthquake, and maybe a hurricane on Sunday. I expect it will be frogs and locusts next week.
wow -- it's fun to cook with grandkids (so I am told) -- and I always loved cooking with my grandmother, too. Good for you!
clue for the second sa6/27, please?
oh no hurricane on sunday? and i am driving home then
identical + Aga **an
having a lot of fun... beach... potty training... cleaning up messes, searching for the missing bottle.... i'm feeling my age, but it's fun for sure
like the high value word substitute the hard sounding letter
rofl... all but the potty training bit sounds okay to me
My daughter's mother-in-law is planning a big cookout on Sunday. Maybe it will turn into a hurricane party.
thanks, stid
sa 6 == ditto + **op suey
I wish that hurricane would blow itself out to sea...
anyone have the sa6/36 please and thanks
just clued it, speed
hey speed!
I guess the sa6/27, sa5/20 and sa6/36 are all variant on the sa4 letter.
identical + Aga **an
it is fun... he asks to sit on the toilet and is so proud of himself... it's more fun than some of the other stuff... just killing my back, that's all
those ones clued were the two sa6/27 I am lost on the 6/36
just clued it a second time :-)
oh! Une! did you see "dimanche" is in the grid? is that spelled correctly?
identical + Aga **an
and a third
sa 6/36 == ditto + genghis **an
replace the next to last letter of the second sa6,27 with a high point tile.
it IS correct :-)
sorry reread all clues and got it thank you all
sa, the 6/36 is same as second 6/27 except substitute the penultimate letter for a higher scoring tile with same sound.
yippee!! I am babbling en francais!!
go, stid!!
wtg stid. Given the vagaries of Enable, half the time I don't know what language I am babbling in.

argh. that na6 is totally a proper noun!

Unless I'm actually paying attention.
Even then sometimes...

I am potentially lost
Nope, none of those. Just too much on my mind and too tired most of the time lately?
