I guess you've finished this grid, neil?
Yeah he had it done in twelve minutes Jill.
Hi faux. Neil is a genius.
I should call you Laura. A wit the other day referred to that TV channel as Faux News.
I think of it every time i type your handle, lol!
It is Faux News, Jilli. Exactly! ^5!
Haha!
Hear hear, neil.
is it on channel faux?
I never go ther.

*there
yes, neil, lol!
Sorry jilli. I took your e, but at least I gave it back.
:P
you are so generous, neil
I'm generous 'cause I swipe stuff and then return it?
sure -- you don't just keep it
but there was a note of sarcasm there...
hello all
From me? Of course. Snarkiness and sarcasm, I'm known for.
hi ursh
Hi ursh.
hello ursh
no no, from me, about your wonderful generosity in returning my e
Can I send you and ru a link somehow? it's to an article I wrote a couple of years ago, I think you'll get a kick out of.
Oh I see.
Well it's only right to return stuff you take.
hadeda is a word - it is an ibis - they sit on my roof at 4am and call to their neighbours - hadeda hadeda
This is SO silly :-)
Wonderful, ursh!
Did you see what I asked at 1:50 am, jilli and ru?
Yes -- can't you post the link here?
I don't want to share it here, jilli. Don't know who may see it... if you see it, you'll understand.
I think I already understand -- email? My address is at the bottom of my bio.
over halfway, btw.
Yes, I have that... but ruru, is he here?
Mine is in my bio too.
I noticed, neil
Yoohoo, ruru!
ruuuuhooo?
Maybe he fell asleep -- that's what he needs
Yes, but not at his computer.
Last time I did that it wasn't pretty.
You're right
I don't mean you're right about not being pretty
Haha, well I'm not. I'm a dork.
Nonsense
back to complete grid
I had a lovely swim today -- water was about 70F.
Two more warm days predicted, then cool and wet
It is not nonsense, jilli. I'm a dork and proud of it.
Our weather is starting to warm up soon we will be complaining about the heat
When I say warm, that's only about 77F -- it's been a sorry excuse for summer.
jilli you giving me goosebumps
I don't complain about heat -- I like it.
certainly has been a brief summer!
We've only had a few days at 25C (77F), lobo
I sent it jilli.
To you anyway.
The rest have been 19, 20C :-(
Thanks, proud dork.
weather is not what it used to be changing everywhere
Neil, I can forward it to ruru, ok?
Sure.
Then if he wants he can reply.
It sure is, loredana.
OK, will do -- going to check email now...
We had unseasonably cool weather when I returned from East Asia in late spring. I wasn't complaining any after all that sweltering heat & humidity though, don't get me wrong! It was bliss.
Not one for humidity thats why I live in Western Australia but it has become humid more than I would like.
good morning all can I have a clue for the 8 please
Me either, I can't stand humidity.
Hi Jenny. It's an8,45... and past tense of the previous word.
thanks neil
yw Jenny.
Good morning all. May I please have a clue for at5-10? Thanks
at5,10: make restitution for sins?
And good morning to you. Wee hours here and crashing in a few.
Thanks so much, neil. Have a good day.
You're welcome, gapeach... and thanks.
Great stuff, neil! Loved it all. AS for the comments on the blog, I particularly enjoyed the burble from the "almost 21 girl". Those were interesting unfacts about Planned Parenthood too, on the video -- and you had told us about Singapore but now I really see what you were suffering from! And I'll send it along to the ruuster.
You see the comment from Amy there?
She's my unofficial stepmom... dad's girlfriend/domestic partner. Of course, she doesn't let on she's family.
Ok, jilli... reading the rest of your post. Thanks!
Oh damn. I meant to include a link to my current blog too. And didn't.
I'll send that now and you can pass that on too?
Well thats if from me until nest time love peace and take care hugs xx
You still can, neil...
Yes, will pass it along.
Bye lobo -- have a good one.
you see lobo doesnt forget nest time is a long time joke Neil
Just saw Amy's comment (I hadn't got that far before) -- funny!
A.W., Jilli... think she's the only Amy who posted there anyway.
Not sure what you mean, loredana?
I just sent you the link to my blogspot on Google's Blogger, jilli. You can follow if you like.
Ok, well I dunno where everyone's gone, but I've gotta go now.... need sleep badly. Guess you'll see this sooner or later jilli. Take care!
Got your blog link, neil, and read some, to my pleasure and amusement -- thanks. I'm off to bed now -- like you!
Ok Jilli, sleep well!
See you at next flip, if I make it on.
You too -- goodnight all, if anyone's there!...*poof

Annie! I've been thinking about you -- are you staying in Brooklyn??
Yes, Une..I have decided to stay. I am going to fill up my car with gasoline this AM then hunker down.
My daughter said she would get me but they are going to leave their house and go to a motel in town if they lose power which they most likely will. They have a room for 4 days if they need it.
My
ok, so you must feel confident that you're safe in your little Brooklyn nest . . .
where does your daughter live?
My friend who lives on the 7th floor left me their keys to their apartment in case I have to leave the nest in the sky. Hope not/
She lives in CT
aaahhh, ok . . .
Stay safe Annie.
Thanks Molly. Are you feeling Irene yet?
watched Bloomberg's press conference yesterday -- extraordinary measures being taken, eh?
Molly doesn't feel Irene and I couldn't resist saying that.
No not yet. Our "window" is 6PM tonight through 6AM tomorrow.
Quite. I think he is making up for the huge snowstorm we had this winter.
Molly is very well behaved.
Hi Kap :)

Good morning all
morning, all! hope you are all well, and that those affected by the hurricane are coping, and have gotten out of the way!
Hi Sue
hi, molly! You ok so far?
Our little dance with this thing is to last from 5PM today until 5AM tomorrow.
bummer. I need to call my dad and make sure he is ready (stocked up in case power goes out)
From now until then, I'm trying to use power "proactively". Laundry, cook some things ahead of time, vacuum, iron, etc.
good thinking!
Your Dad isn't medically dependent on anything that uses power, is he?
no, he's not medically dependent on anything period (except his meds for blood pressure and cholesterol)
Well, I hope he has a good supply of meds, food, water and good books...just in case.
he does keep his cell phone nearby, as he refused to get one of those call buttons, but hasn't needed it for emergencies
probably what he should do is stock up some water and make sure he knows where his flashlights are, both of which he's probably already done, but I will call him anyway :-)
It always makes someone feel cared for when someone checks in on them.
indeed. I had thought of calling the local authorities (although I'm not sure exactly who) to make sure they check up on him in case there's a long power outage but that would probably annoy him
ok, I am missing the n in the lower left corner, and the o above and to the right of it for nbt. Am shamelessly asking for stats or clues.
think that's the on4

enjoy your day uusue
half way ... see you all later ((Hugs))
Goodbye uusue2! I will see you later on in the chat log
Goodbye Mom!I will see you later on today in the chog
finishing up the grid, then getting dressed and heading out for TWO dog transports -- already got an email from the coordinator letting us know the puppies are throwing up in their crates (motion sickness) -- baby wipes and paper towels abound in my vehicle! LOL
later, mom
bye bye Min, enjoy your day
oh no Une, bless their hearts
this is why they try to wait and feed them when they get halfway, which is an overnite
oh well :-)
good morning everyone
Hello flosey! How are you doing?Welcome to the puzzle
hi Min, fine thanks, and you?
Back, car filled with gasoline, tummies full...
I'm well. Finished the grid early this morning. Now I'm working on a story of clues.Trying to get everything done before I lose power which I am sure is inevitable
oh boy, all the best to you
Min, fill your tub with water
haven't watched any news yet this morning
Annie: the Preparedness Princess LOL
Hi Une...all instructions from my friend in Florida, Queen of Hurricanes...
i can only imagine!!
My windows are taped too
Anniebrook, I see you are from NYC. Do you have to evacuate? Hope that you don't live near any beaches.
wow, impressive!!
got a crank radio??
Well, two avenues away from the beach but I am high up. More concerned with the wind velocity.
going down to watch the news
what about flooding, Annie
hello all
Annie has an emergency canoe
was thinking of you, Annie, I want you to be safe
hey, peri
peri, I am on the 23rd floor..no chance of flooding unless I can get a spot on the Ark
Hello periwinkle! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
my husband read last night that the federal gov't recommends NOT taping windows - that it does more harm than good - don't know why.
not floodin in your apt, but flooding on ground and basement
I saw people on the news boarding up their windows.
and lower floors
Hello kids.
hey scrabs :-)
peri, my car might be standing in water. I would not like losing power but I will get thru this.
ok,Annie
Hi Scrabs
Hi Scrabbler! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
just thought you might be better on a lower floor when the winds are high, Annie
annie, are a lot of other people staying in your bldg thru the weekend?
Une, I thought of you when I saw tons of wild columbines in the Adirondack Mtns when hiking in the woods.
Hi Bobby!
OMG how gorgeous that must have been, scrabs!
good morning everyone:)
hey, crossy :-)
Hi Crossy
Yes, there are many people staying but the people in homes near the Atlantic have left
Hello crosshair! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
glad to know you've got other warm bodies in the bldg :-)
Scrabbs, Bobby says "hi" back with a big smile
Hi crossy :)
*cyber-hug to Bobby*
Taping windows in a hurricane is not recommended because it doesn't keep the windows from breaking.
Scrabbs: "cyber hug back from me and Bobby"
That made my day, Annie & Bobby.
It's also a real mess to clean off afterwards
Molly, I thought that taping the windows would keep the glass from flying about
the idea is not to keep them from breaking, but to keep razor sharp glass shards from becoming flying daggers
but i would rather just6 board up ma windows
Don't know Annie. I just know it's not recommended for keeping windows from breaking. Not sure about the "it does more harm than good" that Hursh's husband read about.
*on phone with sister that lives in New Jersey*
it's like crossy said, just to keep the oieces from flying around if it does break.
i live in virgina, by the way
i'm fine, lil*monkey has no internet or cable
Hi little, that is exactly why I put tape on the windows. How are you, littlebit
Stay safe Lil'Bit.
we're good thanks!
Be safe, Lil*Bit.
Where is lil*..isnt she in Virginia also?
also a handy hint, the scotchguard furniture treatment spray does wonders also, just lay it on thick
crossy, good idea, thanks
yes she is north of me by about half an hour
stay safe, you two
Here is what NOAA says about taping windows... http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hr d/tcfaq/C7.html
thanks we will! at least the high school just a few blocks away is a shelter if needed
i should be fine here
thanks Molly
hehe, noaa can stand in front of their windows and i will stand in front of mine, but they are correct in that if you are in areas prone to this, that good functional shutters or boarding them up are best
Informal poll...do you say "hurri-cayne" or "hurri-kin"? The "kin" version sounds funny to me.
hurri-cayne here

Hello everybody, I've missed you
Hi (((ruby)))
hello ruby
tale, that is, that was Ruby talking lol
((RUBY))
ruby, you are not using a power bar with a voltage regulator?
my techie guy was just here to replace the power supply and it happened to his also, from the same storm. He said that nothing would have protected our computers
and our housekeeper's TV blew out, also
:((
I have never seen a more violent storm, even Hurricane ANdrew, back in Miami
Andrew was a monster
my sister in NY just called and said they've shut down the subways, buses, etc in the whole city! wow, that is shocking, especially on the heels of the earthquake!
the entire system will be shut as of noon today
ruby, check into a ups device, they give 45 min batt back up and come with warranties
That's wild!
I never heard of that before, but it's certainly better than being in the subway and losing power.....
First time ever, ruby
I find it strange that NY is closing their subway and DC is not. DC closed their subway during Isabel.
see you in a bit! {{big hugs everybody}}
Hello littlebit! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Hello rubyfoo! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Hello Kaplan the Magne! How are you? Welcome to grid

tis always hype till it is you with your car now parked in your bathtub:) we have had 2 tornados touch down less than 1 hours from here in just one week.the weather patterns are getting strange
It did not take me ae4/4s to finish this.Words left to be found: no 4/4 so here is a story of clues for those who ne 4/5 it. This is the da 4/5 we are supposed to get Hurricane Irene. She has vi 4/8 to slam in 4/4 us no matter what. I think that this may be a sign from Mother Nature that we should all at5/10 for our sins. Do believe people should take responsibility for their sins but they should not be de 4/6. I hope Irene does not cause a lot of de5/14s.Irene will put a big de 4/5 in many parts of the na 6/18. The U.S. will be ta 7/32 w/her wrath. Who knows what we'll find underne4/5 all the rubble Irene causes.I think Irene will be worse than Et4/4's volcanoe. Husband tried to go 4/7 me in 4/4 going to his sister's house in CT,but I do not give one io 4/4 what he thinks. I won't be go 6/30 in 4/4 leaving my house. Husband thinks I'm acting like a te 4/4ager and being defiant. I ha 4/5 it when he tries to tell me what to do in his demanding to 4/4. I think it is a ho4/5 when he gets angry at me for telling him what to do.Anyway,I think we'll be safe enough here. I have obta4/4ed some batteries, flashlights & water I'm glad that the rest of my family is safe from Irene. Especially my great na 6/18 who lives alone. All I can say is after this storm,I'll take an oa4/5 to always be on my best behavior! I'm going to ne4/4en the house before I lose power. Then I am going to move on 4/4 doing some other things. I will be back later toni4/4.
Minver, that was great....LOL
Hope you and yours will be OK, Minver. And I second what Annie has said.
Hi hydra, havent seen you in a long while...how are you?
The National Hurricane Center shows the storm center in North Carolina moving NNE at 14 mph with maximum sustained wind at 85 mph ... The red hurricane area extends through North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey but then appears to be heading out to sea
then it might miss NYC, hopefully
http://tinyurl.com/3pf6alj
phone, be back soon
Thank you Anniebrook. Wrote about Irene yesterday too but it was not as good or as long.Wanted to post it early because I know that I will lose power later on.
Hello hydra! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid.
Hi everyone! Got the 8 right out of the shoot! Wheeeee!
Hello car.eeyore! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
Hi Babbke
* Babble- sorry
Hello Min!
Hello DR1965!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
not a good way to start - lol
Hi Min- I am well- thank you for asking- How are you ?
Hi DR!
HI CAR!! Good to see you
LOL! If you saw me right now you probably would scream and run away!
LOL- I Doubt it. I am still in jammies
But, yes, it is good to "see" you here in Babble Land!
*Pats Car on the back* It's big, sloppy t-shirt and cut-offs day here.
I was outside putting away the outside porch / patio items and we had a torrential downpour...I look like a drowned rat, but I could definitely win a wet t-shirt contest!
hi Molly! TY!
Hi Molly
Hey DR
Stats for the lower of the center i's please?
Duh! NM!
No, wait, still need it.
: )
LOL- I still need it too- I thought I had one but it was the one above
I need the lower left N as well for the same reason!
lower left N - person who cares for your children
I am doing well DR1965. Glad to see you are safe from Irene. I am wondering how long I will have power for.
TY WV! And good morning!
good morning all
Hi wvtveach! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Do keep us posted when you can Min. I will be thinking of you.
TY WV and good morning
TY Min- I am on hte West Coast so we are fine- am concerned for my East Coast friends though
New favorite song on the radio...."I'm pretty good at drinking beer!"
Thank you car.eeyore. I will be thinking of others too
Oooh! I got the i! iv 5/18...having climbing plants on your walls
There's a story of clues I posted in profile car.eeyore
Two idiots in a sailboat had to be rescued off the coast of Norfolk. Mind you, the US Navy in Norfolk sent their war ships out to sea. But these morons thought a sailboat ride would be a good idea directly in the path of a hurricane.
Right up there with the idiots on the pier in Florida. 8 of them ended up in the hospital.
any clue for the GI6 ?
I hope the surfers do not plan to go in4 the water
Not yet.
or the surfer who died
ouw, rhymes with baby cats
I heard a New Jersey FEMA official being interviewed who said "You people in Asbury Park, get the hell off the beach."
The gi 6/24 word rhymes with a baby cat Ouwachita.
Ty annie & Min!
thanks...got it
I think that was our dear governor, Molly!
yw
As fascinated as I am with weather, I am not an idiot. I watch it but from a safe distance.
youre welcome
Hi JBV!
Hello JBV! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
OK. I need to shower and get to STaples and then get the inside of the house ready for Irene. Anyone need anything while I am out?
Hi jbv, did you get your plants inside?
Straight to the point Molly
hi Min! all set for whatever is coming?
breakfast cereal please Car- We are out of it.
What kind?
ok - CHog has slowed considerably
Hi, Annie - yes I have moved all the flowering plants I could carry, indoors. There are 2 or 3 really big pots that will have to take what comes...
I am singing my head off...maybe that is confusing the chog.
I guess there's not much hope for my tomato plants, though
Some news reporters are so STUPID! They are asking taxi drivers if they're worried that storm will impact their business. Really? This is what some are worried about?
Honey nut cheerios please
JBV, if you can, move them to a 90 degree corner of a structure. They are less likely to "take flight".
Goodbye car.eeyore! I'll see you later in the chat log.
Yummm...one of our favs DR!
TY min! Take care everyone on the East Coast. I hopefully will be back to check in later.
of course it is Car
: )
It would be so much easier to go shower and get ready if this radio station would stop playing all of my favorite songs.
AHHHHH!!!!! I need the E on the left?!?!? I thought I had NBT!
all the best to my babble buddies on the east coast,tc and stay safe
car - saw your idea about the 90 degree corner - I can try that with the heavy impatiens pots, but unfortunately, the tomatoes are not in pots, but in the ground!
Ty Crossy!
en 6/21 word is en plus anagram of last TV superman.
poor tomatoes.
And the zucchini are just starting to come in, too, I wonder if they'll make it
TY Min! I had been trying that word with the AN all morning!
en 6/21 word is also a group of nine persons or things
yw
OK...finally an ad! I'm outta here!
bye car. stay safe
Sending blessings to your growing things JBV. Hope they don't sustain any damage.
thanks, Molly, that's the least of it of course. Big problem will be if we have water in the basement, my biggest fear
I am going to watch TV for a while, bye dear babblers
[thinking positive thoughts] - I do NOT want to stress out in advance, after will be bad enough
bye Annie - stay safe
Good idea JBV. Thoughts become things.
Goodbye Anniebrook! I'll see you later in the chat log.
worrying ahead of time does nothing.it is like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon.hope for the best, prepare for the worst and what will bee will be
brb store run
I have learned a lot this year about acceptance - I was always pretty positive, now even more so
yes, crossy, I know you have the same philosophy- it comes from hard experience and appreciating life
hi all, sticking my head in briefly before heading out to the corn fest
jbv, has the weather started to hit you yet?
corn fest, sounds like fun - we're having a stock-up-on-water-and-batteries fest here :)
being neither for nor against apathy seems to be my best option to head off inertia
no, just a light drizzle right now
what a pleasure, being connected again!
hello JBV and sue and BR
hi, BR !
and hi ruby! what happened? no internet?
you're near my dad, is why I'm asking, jbv
and hi, ruby! Haven't seen you in a while!!
last I heard, the big rain and wind is supposed to arrive here tonight
Hello
that's my understanding too, jbv; I will call him in a bit
hi, sadie!
hi sue
we had a wild storm Wed evening, the strongest in our 14 years and it zapped my computer's power supply
are you in an area where you need to worry about floods, sadie? I see you are in eastern PA but it is quite hilly there, depends if you are in a valley or not
I didn't feel so stupid because my tech guy who came today to fix it, had the same thing happen to his!
wow, ruby, glad you are back on line!
ty sue, me too. I felt like my arm was missing
Hello sadie52!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi min! hello sadie!
hiya minveryork im just ducky thanks yourself??
ducky? have a low ceiling?
hi Babble figure its apropo with goofy hurricane on way up coast lol
hi ruby
Just a word of caution, once the winds start, stay inside. A man in NC has been killed by a tree limb falling on him in his yard.
ok, off to eat lots of corn! (and see old cars, and old friends, and whatnot). Back later.
enjoy sue sounds like fun
hello again, is anyone on from New Jersey?
hello flosey
oath
hi Ruby
sorry
Hello flosey! How are you doing? Welcome back to grid
good thanks Min, do you know anything about NJ? has the storm come that far north yet?
hello flosey
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
... someone commented earlier that Irene is expected in NJ this evening around dinnertime
hi sadie
hello dose
thanks dose, I often play bridge with a gentleman from NJ - don't know exactly where
... I heard that she was down to category 2 when she hit Carolina ... which while dangerous enough would indicate that she might lose the overpowering strenght as she heads north ... yeah a dangerously windy day ... with excessively lots of rain ... but not death dealing like Andrew or Katrina
... at least we can hope
I think it's interesting that they've shut down public transport in NYC
thanks dose, for that report
Hi doseffing! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
... if the storm is a bad as it might be then it's a wise precaution ... I wouldn't want to be in a tunnel below sea level when the flooding starts ...
can you imagine being in the subway in NY -- in the dark -- rats????
... but if she is less powerful than the hype then everone will be complaining about the inconvenience of taking unnecessary precaution
for sure dose, subway would be a dreadful place to be caught
flosey, this link is to the National Hurricane Center:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
... did it in Toronto during a fire at the next station ... don't want to do it again
how bad was it, dose?
wow, what station was it dose?
... 1986(?) Lawrence West ... a train went off the track when the emergency brakes failed ... smashed into another train ... deaths and fire ... I was two trains back ... ... lots of smoke, panic, crowds ... no air ... walked about 100 feet out the back of the train to an emergency or work entrance ... don't wanna do it again ... ...
... maybe it was Eglinton West
oh my! dreadful, I don't remember that, was living in Aurora at the time
horrible, dose
dinner, see you later
... a bientot
and thanks BR for that link, will be watching
Goodbye rubyfoo! I'll see you later on in the chat log.
last word, any clues for the last vi5 please
... latin plural of vi4
got it, thanks and that's fireworks
Any clue for en7?Tx
... en7 ... e + a word meaning a country in general
a + country
e + country that is
Tx,tx,tx etc.
I live in Mass. and so many people left the cape and cancelled vacation plans and they already cancelled a lot of planes so lots of disruption and now looks like rain and some wind next time people will not heed warnings
hello all
... that's the scariest thing ...
I am sure we will have flooding in the areas that flood and there will be some trees down and power outages but we deal with that on a reg. storm and in winter with snow and ice
It's not sensible to "not heed warnings next time" if this storm doesn't pan out as predicted. The tracks of hurricanes are unpredictable and if warnings are issued, they should be paid attention to. No matter how things turn out.
... quite right ... but I fear we aren't collectively that wise ...
I realize that MollyL but people get tired of the news hype and ignore
Regardless of whether it's sensible or not, it's the way people work. The boy who cried wolf is a parable because it illustrates a basic tenet of human behavior
i do think the media storm (pun intended) is a little much
... about twenty years ago we had a massive snow storm and the city fell behind in snow clearing so they called out the army to dig and everyone complained about us being made to look foolish and not able to deal with our own problems ...
I am doing lousy job with the a's can someone clue the 8 please and thanks
... but the next time when they didn't call out the army ... the snow started to melt and couldn't get into the storm sewers and everyone complained about that ... ... we did it on our own ... but we looked foolish anyways
news intervied folks in ac complaining about the evacuation, "we don't knwo where we are going, how are we supposed to deal".
"we don't got no cars". etc etc
The a is an exension of the 6. The 6 is what a priest does with oil.
... an8 from the an6 ... biblical reference ... "an they an8 him with oil"
Doseffing: JINX!
... TO: ... doesn't the town set up shelters in the local high school gym? ...
where is AC TO?
want me to evacuate? just need mt briefcase of family paperwork, my family,a large bottle of vodka,my e-book reader and a kerosene lamp and i am good to go..the rest is what insurance is for lol
There are shelters all over the state set up for those requested to evacuate.
... Atlantic City?
dos: the local high school gym is also in flood are, it is the coast. and these are congested urban areas with thousands of residents, that is what is making this storm such a concern
oh..
i say then saty and drown
The state of NC, that is.
How compassionate of you.
they could always take Surf Lessons TO?
well ssamantha, what is the alternative?
... they've already fished a couple of those idiots out of the water
don't answer, please, because i am already biting my tongue. that was rhetorical
Have the city, state, and FEMA work together to make better plans for evacuation or emergency shelter? That's just one idea, and I know it's a CRAZY one, as opposed to drowning a city.
Sorry. Already answered.
... who was the storm after Katrina? ... they evacuated Houston for that one didn't they?expensive and personally inconventient ... but it beat sleeping in the Super Dome ...
amazes me how people will risk their lives for just stuff, grab the family, each fill a shopping bag with personals and get out..the rest is covered
Rita was that storm. No, they evacuated a very few of the coastal areas and cities around Houston, but they didn't evacuate all of Houston.
samantha joy: the state IS the planner and thaqt is what the locals are compalining about. that they cannot just go down the block. this is not new orleans and unless you are very familiar with the area which it appears you are not, don't criticizze
Houston's the 3rd largest city in the country. It can't be evacuated as such.
if yo have problems locally, don't project them upon others
Yes, that's why I recommended combining the local knowledge of city planners with the expertise of FEMA. Why shouldn't I criticize? It's kind of obvious they're not doing a good job of this.
bullshit. says who, t he weather channel? the point is that people are fighting them. then they will complain if they are stranded
. . . .Says the fact that there aren't shelters that aren't in a flood plain? Sorry, maybe I misunderstood you there?
what good is a plkan if the citizens won't comply? this is america, we can't round them up like dogs cart them away
at does sort of bespeak poor planning.
the shelters ARE NOT IN A FLOOD PLAIN. get out of your head and read the posts
Says the fact that there's nothing in place to get people out who don't have cars? I mean, are there no buses available, or trains? Or are they there but simply not being utilized?
if yo uwant an argumanet, sj go elsewhere. I have to worry about protecting myself . you have mis read every post.
No, I'm responding to the fact that your suggestion was to "let them drown". If you want to say such nasty things, don't react as if you've suddenly come over all sensitive when people react.
and since this storm is threatening ME not you, back atcha with the lack of compassion
Riiiiiight. I live in Texas. Nope, no storms here, never.
good grief, those that listen to sensible ideas on what to do and add a dash of their own common sense will be ok
*readjusts foil hat*
right on, crossie;)
rite crossy.. if you want to stay put and ce what happens , then that is a personal choice. . not like there wasnt plently of warning..i would be out!
people who just runaround the coastal cottage wondering what do do about the big screen tv will get wet
You're right, crossy. There is a point, though, where some people need help anyway. Not having a car isn't an inconvenience if there are no contingency plans; it's a life threatening situation. :(
lol
corssy, i certaunly hope so...what to do about those who will not leave is an awful dilemma. the state has said it cannot provide emergency and rescue services.
That's a large part of why so many people were stuck in NO; they literally had no way to get out of the city.
I think there is a lot of sense in the old adage "Better to be safe than sorry".
but there IS plenty of warning... . even if you dont have a car
well,it can be,but there is lots of warning or was.an average person can turn his back to the coast and average 4 miles per hour, barring that.if you wish to stay, then stay
I live on the coast in MA and have cleaned up my yard of all patio furniture and hanging plants we have shelters open in the local schools and if you need help getting there the police or fire are coordinating rides for anyone I feel if you have a head on your shoulders and do not go out on the jetty to watch waves there is not much else you can do I cannot control trees coming down and just pray they miss my house
the evacuationj plans call for folks to be taken on buses to inland shelters. some are not good ith that
i think going to a shelter canbe very trqaumatic esp for the elderly or disabled
temple, i wish you luck, and safety..
there are always really dumb people who don't leave.. they are responsible for their own actions..that's what I think...
i imagine so TO
yes.. be safe TO.. I hope all is okay once it's over
Yeah, can't do anything about those who are just stubborn.
and the problem is compouneded by the fact that there is really never any way to really know how many people are in a resort area so they are directed to a shelter as each one fills.
my feeling is if you feel strong and want to ride it out in your home then do not expect rescue to endanger themselves to save you when you decide it is too dangerous
lol,my family,a nice bottle of vodka and my briefcase and we would be gone so fast you would not even get to see my butt cheeks bounce as i ran lol..everything else can be replaced
so they do not in fact know where they are gong until they arrive
do they have to pay resort fees to the shelter?
The problem there comes from assuming that everyone who didn't leave made a choice, as opposed to being unable to go.
But that's where FEMA should step in
I understand that also SJ but I hope if you really want to evacuate there is a way you can
and some folks are complaining about that on tv. we had a flooding emergency the last night of the festival and folks refused to move until they spent their tickets. as one in charge of a stage it was very frightening
the other downfall is most shelters will not let you take your animals and I know I would feel very torn on leaving them
how poeple fight you when you are trying to keep them safe in spite of themselves
there are provisions for animals speed
I understand. My sister got stuck iin NO during Katrina because she couldn't get out. Then she evacuated to Texas and got stuck in Galveston because she couldn't get out for Rita. I'm not having a lot of sympathy with the "let 'em drown" approach; it's personal.
smanathan joy:let it go.
that is one thing I did not hear in my area temple all the call said is no animals at shelter
Sure. It's only my family you're talking about, why shouldn't I? I mean, it's not as if people's lives are on the line . . . oh wait.
some folks are thick headed and need that bleak reality choice put to them to get through. speed, many roups here in anumal rescue have embraced that cause and run shelters
because they know people will not leave their animals.
may i ask why she couldnt get out?
Most emergency shelters here don't allow animals. They have to make accommodations for those who are allergic.
my niece volunteers at a shelter and they were asking people outside the flood area to take in animals over the weekend
SJ: i am here, i am not going anywhere
oh that's awful.. I wouldn't leave my dogs either
SJ how is your sister now did she lose everything and did she move back to her area I realize some of those people from Katrina still have no houses
the pet thing is hard. the event has been so hard to predict, since this type of hit has not come in years and the population has exploded
She was having gall bladder troubles the first time. She was at home, drugged, and unaware of the warnings until it was too late, since warning didn't go out until 24 hours before the storm hit.
e couldn't get out of Galveston mostly because of the gunshot wound to the leg she received in New Orleans.
OMG your poor sister SJ again how is she now??
She's in Austin now, near me. She's OK but still dealing with PTSD.
well sj that is terrible and does explain a few things but ac is not new orleans and they had many plans in effect.
now i can see why you jumped to conclusions about the plans for evacuation
The part I have trouble with is assuming that everyone who doesn't go, are just being pig headed and stubborn and don't deserve any help afterwards. There are folks who can't leave, and that hurts.
it does not matter how big or small a storm or catastrophe is how it affects your own family is what matters people will come away from this laughing at how the media blew it out of proportion but if a tree lands on your house and kills you or a family member then all the warnings were right
if FEMA in action in New Orleans is any indicator.. look out East Coast
i am sure there are. i don't think the are on tv comlaining about not knoing to which shleter they are g oing or asking why they have to go 0 miles inland
FEMA is actually a pretty good agency. One of the main reasons it was such a shock after Katrina is that it *didn't* do its job all that well; it comes in and does a superlative job in many situations every year.
50 miles. right speed. i already know and have been putting stuff on nhigher ground in basement and have taken everything inside- bird bath, trash cans, lawn ornaments. i will have water
But still; we're talking about a Cat 2 or 3? Your houses can withstand that, right? We overbuild in the states.
well i have had roof damage for less. more concered ith brother at long beach island
Yeah but it's not gonna lift the roof off your house while you're in it, is what I mean. I'd be more concerned about protecting your windows from debris. Good luck.
if it does.. she can follow the yellow brick road and get ruby slippers
I have to go. TO: I apologize. You made an offhand comment that I don't think you even meant seriously, and I overreacted. You had no way of knowing it was personal.
at this poinbt i am looking for the rest of the plagues. a crazy notion popped into my head about that this ill affect the haves more than the have nots, like a great equalizer. because if ever the divide between the two is evident, it is now. in this area especially.
hi, everybody, TO - I was just thinking about that - at least I don't own a multi-million dollar mansion at the shore :)
samantha joy, i wish your sister continued recovery, no one who has not been through that types of trauma could know how it feels., since i now live alone, i am a bit apprehensive about going this alone. I did not mean to offend you and for that i apologoze. sj.
gotta laugh, there will be enough headaches afterwards,
Let us not forget that those with the mega bucks homes at the shore have hefty insurance policies.
wishing everyone the best - maybe Irene will take a detour out to sea, you never know
if you have fresh water and food (and, uh, enough toilet paper) you should be fine. A Cat 3 will do damage but is unlikely to make your house unlivable. R
Remember that even in NO, it wasn't the Cat 5 that did the damage; it was the levees breaking and flooding the entire damn city afterwards.
And now I'm really gone. Thanks all. *poof*
I am deliberately NOT watching or listening to the news - I can do without the SCREAMING DISASTER headlines 24/7
molly: not just hefty policies, hefty government policies. without federal subsidizing flood insureance they could not have built at all. sp molly, which week are you going to ask them for for your vacation? :P
((JBV)) hello all, still in my webinar session, just checking in
hi stid!
must be a very compelling webinar! (if you're here with us !)
funny, stid - we just a had a discussion (on the Italian-English forum) about whether people say, "hi all" or "hi to all" - I think you just answered it :)
I am multitasking for the parts when there is "dead air" -- it is audience participation time and it takes people a long time to figure out how to use their mics sometimes
LOL JBV -- I think it depends, possibly regional variation?
I have found most of the webinars I ever took part in to be dreadful - sometimes due to technology issues
and formality variation
because of course in Italian, you can say "Ciao a tutti" so when they translate it, they say, "Hi to all"
The tech these folks use is pretty good -- I think Dan2Bit works on it -- Blackboard Collaborate. However, the interface changed recently, so they use a lot of time in the beginning bringing folks who haven't been in over the summer up to speed.
I usually say "Hey y'all". : )
One of my former students (Spanish-speaking) told me that when she was first learning English, when people said "Thank you" she replied, "Thank you you!"....
the speakers can be variable, but are always well supported by the regular moderators (I just adore these folks...)
(because in Spanish it's OK to say Gracias a Ud.)
oh, glad to hear you like the workshop
that's cute!
I love the little change-ups that happen in translation
hi Molly, we had a long talk about y'all - also, many people (English speakers!) use it wrongly for the 2nd person singular
jbv, i wish you well in the storm. are you done with the grid? i am thinki gi should hurry and finish while I can
I often say you-all in the chat if I want to include the whole group again after a "private/side" conversation
yes, grid is done, trying to keep my mind on pleasant things - not so easy around here - wishing you the best too, TO -
I am also facing this more or less alone, although my son is here and has been helping
are you near water?
okay, webinar getting back to interesting (to me) -- JBV, you are in my heart and I hope you "weather" the next couple days with ease. *supportive mama-friend look*
thanks, stid - have fun
*relurk*
where are you located jbv
no, not in danger of coastal flooding, but my backyard has a severe slope and with heavy rains we are susceptible to water in the basement
we have a sump pump, just hoping it works and it's enough and the power doesn't go out
yes, same here, ground is saturated.
i'm in east brunswick nj - near the coast but not on the water
when does the storm hit NJ today?
oh heck i keep typing in dentition and getting word not found
my husband did a major basement remodeling project two years ago - had a french drain put in and the sump pump and since then, no water problems, but then we haven't had a hurricane like this, so I don't know -
I hate when it comes in at night and you can hear trees breaking but cannot really see anything
i think it's predicted for tonight, ru
I know, I hate that too speed
oh...I hope you are all okay tonight
i should not have procrastinated getting my trees trimmed
Morning all. Hope it is just a lot of hot air and the storm doesn't blow too hard
Amen, onyx
okay, webinar over
well, off to do a few things - I'll stop by later, good luck everybody
hi, all - any hints around for the first column E for nbt? (unhelpful monkeys!) :P
hi and bye stid :)
bye JBV
I agree about the peak of a storm happening at night. Nothing creepier than howling wind and the sound of things falling *CRASH*
bye jbv
you will all think i am crazy but i love the wild weather!
One time we had a major storm come through after a lot of rain (we live in a wooded area so trees often uproot in those conditions). Tom was away, so I pulled the boys' mattresses into the hallway and made them sleep there. The boys AND the dog loved it! LOL I, of course, barely slept at all.
down below 50 and STILL need the lower left corner N for NBT. any help? (anticipating a fish)
na6
I have NA 6/18 "country" is there another?
childcare lady
Mary Poppins
i am hoping lil monkey is ok
ah! thanks wildcat!
yw
not ignoring you rbud but don't have that E
but stiddy does
Lil'Bit said Little Monkey has no cable or internet. I don't think that is storm related.
thanks - hate to list before halfway and nbt - will keep plugging along
Monkey's county was under an evac order, but I suppose it depends on where she is relative to the river, TO -- my other friend who lives nearby isn't overly worried, and she is on the other side of that peninsula, where the storm will come ashore
rbud: e + n6, "country"
rbud en7 e + na6 meaning country
snap, wild!
:)
I apoligize for any bad typing, had to put in eyedrops and not seeing the chat or the grid clearly.
yahoo, thanks to both of you!!! :D
I think I will go do something that doesn't need eyeballs and back later to finish. (((hugs all))) *poof*
ia
Eio Champ. : )
Sorry Molly...dunno what was up with that!
I thought perhaps you were speaking in code. : )
may i pls hve a clue for ae7?

good luck same to you speed
ae7...a + a long, long time + *** Fleming wrote the James Bond books.
Molly, that was a heck of a clue!
hello again
Hi Ruby, Hi Champ
what a pleasure to be back online!!!!
It's a tough go when your internet is out.
I heard it sizzle when the lightning hit the lake
Good Lord Ruby, it's a good thing you didn't get electrocuted.
I wasn't on it, fortunately, was just mopping up rainwater when it happened
it was a beautiful, wild storm
rare for here
40 left and good night
en6 please?
en + how you work bread dough, minus the first letter
thanks much
A's axed - afternoon all
Afternooon... quiet in here.
hey all! any news on the hurricane?
Yep, it's still hurricaning. : )
raining here outside DC, no wind to speak of
That it is.
Oh you're near Seain, Dan?
You must be connected with him on G+. That explains why I keep seeing the name you're using here as a suggestion on there.
nn - dcs & I have met before, I'm just on the virginia side of the river
firewords! go6 beard was my last
Oh I see... cool.
He's a nice guy... we chat now and then.
Congrats on fireworks!
gi 6????
nm
Oh, got it? Was just about to clue...
clue for the gi6, plz?
Sounds like a baby cat
sounds like the ge word for doing something -
and rhymes with a certain winter glove
We're just gi**** up dis mo'nin'
Or a baby gat.
Kaplan, what is that photo?
ty, magic fingers just didn't want to work.
It's Yetta from the Nanny.
After she had her hair done.
Yes, haha! Hi Kaplan.
funny
I knew who it was. ;)
people used to ask if it was me.
Silly.
Seriously? Too funny.
finito. twisty little grid! ty for the clues!
Seriously.
Congrats, lbdawger!
I did the grid last night at flip... just dropped in for a little while doing other things on here, to see if clues may be needed.
need clues for the na 4 and 6
na4 zilch, zippo.
ty
and the 6???
I have one 6
Oh sorry... Kaplan got the 4 clued. the 6 is a country... our na****.
let me look
dont see
Or is it the other na4 you need?
I have our country it is the other one
I dont like N words
Which is like a woman's name (Hebrew) minus a consonant?
Oh, the other na6 is someone who minds children for a living. Usually live-in.
???
But double consonant ending instead of the usual.
ty could not see that
Why the ???, sciencegeek?
yw
did not understand
I am good
Ok, cool. :)
I meant double vowel ending, geez!
Am I overtired? Oh, just a little.
Afternoon, Babblers. Wind starting to kick up now. Irene's moving our way.
Or two vowels, I should say... not the same vowel doubled. Ugh. I need practice at cluing!
Hi Judi.
I should probably take a nap now, before I have to get ready for work this evening.
Which bar are you Babbling from Judi? : P
Ha! Just sitting at home, Molly. Beer and wine in the fridge tho. So, we're totally prepared.
Atta girl
Hope it doesn't hit you too badly, Judi.
Hmmm. According to the latest. The eye will go right smack through Delaware. Of course, it's only a Cat 1 now.
tr 6???
We were in NC [Raleigh & Charlotte] for a few days and left NC a couple of days ago... just in time too, it looks like.
nm
Oh no, Judi. :(
Strap in Judi
Norman is a cute cat. :)
We're as ready as we can be.
whew done
Well, hopefully it wont be like Ike!
Yes, only so much you can do. Hope it doesn't do any or much damage to your house and doesn't last too long, Judi.
wish we would get some of the rain
Congrats, sciencegeek!
Amen to that, neil. Just hope the power doesn't go out. Sucks to have no AC.
Oh no kidding. How hot is it there now?
Congratulations sciencegeek on your fireworks! YAY!
Hi Minveryork.
I hope power doesn't go out. Sucks to have no Babble
That too.
Hi again all! I was here earlier and then took a break.
Time for a snack. See you kids later. *POOF*
I should be napping right now. Had to be up early this morning to travel again and I'm sooo tired. Have to work this evening though.
Take care, Judi... all the best!
However, I finished this puzzle and did story of clues earlier this morning in anticipation of power outtage.
I did the puzzle last night at flip.
Goodbye Judi! I'll see you later on in the chog maybe.
It's a nice easy one, for such a small grid. I've been told the smaller ones are usually the toughest.
I finished this puzzle at about 2:30 this morning Neil.
I won't tell you when I finished it.
Laura might though if you ask her... she was apparently timing me, haha!
[she is "Fauxmage' on Babble]
I think I saw her in the wee hours of the morning Neil
Oh, ok. She's away for the weekend now though. Won't be home again until late Monday night, she told me.
And I'll be going home then myself, finally.
Been away all this month on the road, working. Can't wait to get home again.
Hello Babblers. Rain has started here in Boston.
Hi wht.
"Wht" does your player name stand for? ;)
Those are my initial.
Or initials, when I can type.
I went to type "what" and typed "Wht" instead and thought it was funny... so I left it like that.
Oh I see.
I get called what all the time. I don't always see it.
Oh really?
Hello wht! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
I guess you should've used capitals, maybe with dots. W. H .T ... like initials are usually written. That makes it kinda obvious it's initials.
Rain has started here in New York too. Started while I was taking my little dog on a walk around the block.
Or just caps, without the dots. I'm NJL.
Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane Irene, One of the worst we've ever seen. Please play it safe, please play it cool. Don't go out in this and be a fool. Stay inside and protect your things. Who knows what Irene will bring. Fortunately there will be an end in sight and the sun will come out shining bright.
You're in NYC, Minveryork?
You're a poet and I see you know it, Min.
No, fortunately I am east of the city in Dutchess Co.
Oh, ok.
I'm always making up stupid little rhymes negativeneil
Just call me Neil... it's my name and easier. ;)
[less typing]
You should write limericks about each of the babblers.
help with na6/18 pls
Laura [Fauxmage] wrote a funny one about me a little while ago... made me laugh!
na6,18 -- our country, our na****.
na 6/18 word is the United Na****s big red & hi there.
na6/18 - one is the word for a country
Or is it the other one?
good evening all
The other na6,18 -- child minder, usually live-in. With a 2-vowel ending as opposed to the usual one.
An na6/18 is also someone who babysits your children
i have that one Glantarell. sorry, should have said the first one
Hi Glantarell! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
I just clued the other one, big red.
TY Neil
yw
thanks min. hope you are okay
Hi Minver - I am fine
na6,18 -- child minder, usually live-in. With a 2-vowel ending as opposed to the usual one.
thanks neil
yw red.
I am all excited because I have bought myself an small eldery sports car
It has been pretty neglected so I have spent a couple of hours in each of the last few dys cleaning it
Oh what kind?
It's all shiny insude and out now ;-)
What do termites eat for breakfast? Oakmeal.
A twilight blue Mazda MX5
Good job, Glantarell.
Groan!
Grosn, BR
Hi everyone
Hi Seaspray
How do fleas travel? By itch-hiking.
Hi SeaSpray.
Please bring Ruru and the uns back....
Rain has started here and we are battened down!
*puns
How much do dead batteries cost? Nothing - they're free of charge.
what do maggots take on the airplane?
Where are you Seaspray?
Hi SeaSpray! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
carrion baggage
Oh, Babblerabble, how I missed you. So good to see you. Hi everyone
LOL Neil!
Maryland...north central
How is a banana peel on the sidewalk like music? If you don't C sharp, you'll B flat.
groan groan groan
Why did the horse request to move stables? He couldn't stand the neigh-bors.
Hello grant! How are you doing?Welcome to the puzzle
Trying to remember where Maryland is on the US map....
Hello BabbRabble! How are you? Welcome to the grid.
Hello Mom! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
Which state is Mryland in?
Hi Min, nice to see you again
Maryland is the state Glan...in U.S.
Um.....Maryland IS a state Glantarell.
nailed down and tarped over for Irene, Min
Good for you grant.Where are you located? Stay safe
may I have the stats for the 8 please
an 8/45
an8,45
thank you Min and Neil
Ok, which states is Maryland between - New Jersey amnd georgia?
There is a story of clues in my profile mom if you want
Stay safe Sea
yw
eastern Mass, a few miles from the ocean
yw Mom. Oh no, Mom? What are you doing here?! Geez, I'd better be on my best behavior now.
thanks, Min. I'll take a look. You have the best stories.
Will do Molly...and you as well
Glant, Maryland is a border State of Pennsylvania and The District Of Columbia
Oh I worry so much about those who live near water.
:-) Neil
Appropriately, I wrote about hurricane Irene today.
I have to go folks. Stay dry and safe on the East Coast. Catch you all tomorrow if we have power.
bye wht
Goodbye wht! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log.
Haha, Mom... one of your sons is the same age as me too, exactly.
TY Molly, I can kinda place it on the map now
most of the time it's desirable
I saw that in your bio. He will be 27 next month
bye wht, be safe.
But the other one is 3 years younger than me, and my brother is 3 years (less one month) older than me... so you can't be my Mom. What a relief!
Oh, I won't turn 27 until the end of December.
hmmm, how to take that
Twenty-seven was AGES ago for moi. Lucky you Neil!
Haha, I mean I'm glad my mom isn't really on here... I don't have to mind my behavior so much. ;)
oh Min, you are still a youngster
Can barely remember 27 lol
I don't think she'd just join and not tell me though... she probably wouldn't join, she's pretty busy and doesn't do that much online.
gi6/24 pls?
I am older than you, Mom .... I took the minutes when God said, "Let there be light."
I know that my mother would NEVER join. She doesn't do computer games. Plus she's too busy to play games
I saw another Babbler with a Westie as their avatar, SeaSpray. Digby, think the name was?
gi 6/24 word rhymes with a baby cat Mary & hi there
lol BabbleRabble
You should be called "Methuselah" then, BR.
Hi Minveryork and tyvm for the gi6
How odd - that gi6 was the only one I was stuck on - and I was about to ask when I saw the clue. Many thanks
Yes Neil, Digby is correct. Unfortunately I lost mine on July 11th. I miss my friend terribly.
Hello Deeha! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid.
Hi Deeha and Mary
Oh no, SeaSpray... so sorry. :( I know what that's like. We had and lost 2 family dogs while we were growing up. Both Labradors.... nice dogs too.
((Sea)) so sorry
It is hallo and goodbye Minver. I got firwroks with that clue!! But I am well thankyou how are you?
Hi mom, getting late start today and hurrying to finish
Yes, I had Max for 15 years. He was my shadow. ty neil and mom
Oh good, Deeha... at least you got it.
And congrats!
congrats Deeha
That's so hard, SeaSpray.
Congratulations Deeha on your fireworks! Way to go!
Ty folks. And Seaspray I had a Cairn-very like your little boy- only other pet owners know what it really feels like.
He was like one of my children Neil. It has been tough.
I think that's very true, Deeha.
They are, SeaSpray... both of ours were definitely family members.
Sorry to hear abour your dog. My dog is like my child.
I think you're right Deeha
My boy Cosmo is a Cairn, too. I can't imagine losing him!
If anyone wants a clue shout now I am back to my knitting (I hear cries of get a life!!!)
Min, thank you for the clues
Ahhh, cairn's are adorable :)
yw
oh Deeha, I want to learn to knit someday
I know, beachboggle. We can't imagine life without them, because they're such a part of ours. I've never had one of my own since leaving home... I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment and travel a lot for work, so my life just isn't conducive to having any pets, unfortunately. At least not for the foreseeable future... hopefully one day.
I cross stitch, but don
oops don't knit
ooohh, love cross stitching
our oldest and his wife have a golden retriever and when I get to puppy sit I am in heaven
Aww. They're nice dogs too.
Yes, Goldens are very nice.
one day Neil you'll move and get you a patch of land and have your dog
If you travel, having pets is difficult unless you have a sitter. (My 89 year old father in law was mine). That is what is keeping me from getting another dog.
My dad & mom have a gold retriever named Roosevelt
okay, now I need a clue for the an 8 that you all were so nice to give me the stats for
Her name is Annie and she will be 1 next month
Here's an old family photo with our first lab, Maggie. I'm the little guy with the dark curly hair: http://tinyurl.com/LF-with-Maggi e
an 8/45 word is past tense of the an 6/18 word Mom.
what a lovely family Neil
That an 6/18 word means to rub or sprinkle on Mom.
Min, does the an 6 build off the an4?
And us again with our second lab, Jake: http://tinyurl.com/LF-with-Jake
Very nice photo Neil. Your lab looks like a very friendly pup.
Thanks Mom.
oh geez, thanks so much Min
Yes, both dogs were... they usually are, that breed.
yw
be back in a few minutes...going to check on Irene
I put this l8nk on yesterday but for those that didnt see it - this will make you all laugh and cheer us all up again http://www.caregiverstress.com/2010/07 /a-reminder-that-laughter-is-the-best- medicine/
Time for me to scoot off here .... in my best mom voice ... Neil, go take a nap, you have to work tonight. ((Hugs)) to all of you
Goodbye Mom! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
goodbye ((Min)) See you tomorrow. Take care and stay safe
Deeha, that is a hoot
Good thing you're leaving Mom, otherwise you'd be in the Penalty Box & thank you for the well wishes Mom.
hi all
Hi jmcnrick! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid.
i am okay i guess-life is a tad frustrating
Hi jmc...where are you? Getting rain and tropical breeze here
in dc now so lots of rain and winds
be safe
i was worried about my basement (since it flooded twice before all of this) but the contractor built a brick wall in my doorway to keep the water out
unfortunately it is now leaking in my bedroom on the second floor :-(
I was hoping this storm would not affect you remodeling
oh no!
Oh No! Hi everyone, Hope you all stay safe.
Hi red
Hi redturtlehead! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
i feel for the contractor--he finally got the work permit and then there is an earthquake and now a hurricane
he must be feeling cursed
i'm well, no hurricane here.
Oh, that is terrible jmcnrick! Is the leak in the roof?
I think we all are lol
that is really terrible weather. I should call my parents. and my sister...
no it is where the plastic doesn't cover when the wind blows on the back of the house
Where are they red?
JMC, is it a lot of water coming in??
My parents are about 1.5 hrs northwest of JMC.
it is not that terrible -- wind and rain-- if i wasn't missing the back of the house it would not be a problem at all
my sister is in RI and decided not to evacuate as the shelter is the school which is across the street.
they are fine i am sure red--Irene is down to a category 1 which means it is just barely a hurricane any more
that is still very frustrating jmc...my goodness.
i think people have gone a bit over board
it is
very
Don't think going across the street would make a difference
thats why they decided not to evac...
VERY frustrating
what are the stats in for the corner N please?
hi again, all!
i think that's the 6/18
hi uu
na6/18, jmc
ty uu
hmm i have a na6/18 meaning country already
Hi uusue2! How are you doing?Welcome back to chog.
the other ione is a person who looks after your children#
shit my lights just blinked bbr
ty glan
na6/18 word is the person who cares for you children
with a 2 vowel ending rather than the usual d
y even
3 left - all ta
grrrrr
Go Glantarell go!
hi, glant and min!
3 ta words build off of the second ta word Glantarell.
hi Sue.
just got the 3rd ta word
and 4th
I'm kind of here, kind of not... doing things and checking back now and then.
woo hoo - fioreflies
whoosh
Well done Glan!
hello everyone -- grats glan :)
Hi nan
Congratulations Glantarell on fireworks!Good for you!
Neil - I am curious - is Mom really YOUR Mom?
Ty Nan & Seaspray
Hi cybernan! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
and Minver
I don't hink so Glantarell
yay, glant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and hi, nan and sea
I didn't think so but there was a comment in the chog earlier that made me wonder...
Hi sue
ty sue
3 storm related deaths have been reported...please be careful everyone
I am geting nervous - I am going out tomorrow on what migght technically be called a date - the first one I've been on since 1998
I just updated my profile with a little poem I made up about Irene. It's after story which is also about Irene
sorry, seems trivial when considering storm deaths
WOW Glan, no wonder you are nervous. Just be yourself, that always works.
Maybe you can bring your da 4/5 to the PB Glantarell.
Darn it - more Welsh cakes required
good luck, glant!!!! As sea says, be yourself, and if you don't mesh then it's not a good match.
I am not ure I evemn want to go LOL
btw - I called my dad (age 90, living on his own in NJ), and he is fine. He's stocked up on water, has lots of flashlights, and had just boiled some eggs when I called.
oh glan how nice!
where is the storm now?
I am always myself - I learnt about 30 years ago that there was no oint in trying to be anybody else!
last date i went on was . . . . . hmmmm
hi sue, so glad to hear your dad is doing fine -
Yeah, me too jmcnrick!
earlier than 1998?
lol...yes jmc, I can't remember that long ago either
Been married since 1973 glan...no dates here lol
I am not sure I want a relationship, but I'd quite like company to cinema and theatre trips, and to have somebody to gout for a meal with occasionally
well hubby died in 1993 . . . had a couple of tries in 1995 but boy was too misserable to make it worth it
that's a good start, Glant, don't think about the next step, just enjoy the evening
I first got married at 19 in 1975. In retrospect maybe I should hve stuck with it!
so i gave up. . . thinking about trying again now that boy is on his own
wow, that must have been difficult, jmc
good advice jbv
I was single for a LONG time before I got married, so I can give advic on dating (even though it's from the dinosaur age) :)
haha my boy tells his friends that i made the right choice not to remarry because all of his friends parents who remarried were so miserable
well, the plan is a chinese buffet meal followed by watching cowboys and aliens in the cinema opposite the chiese
i just roll my eyes at him
*sits in the pb crocheting*
like a welsh cake jmc?
they are really nice and fresh :-)
that is a great pla glan--although i would probably do the movie first for something to talk about over the chinese
<--- has remarried enough times to stay out of the conversation entirely
ooo ty glan
haha uu!
Glad to hear your Dad is prepared Sue, the earthquake the other day scared my mother to death
but the guy you have now seems like a keeper
sue - my third marriage ended last year
smart move sue
jmc - sadly the movie timings preclude that
too bad
The number doesn't matter - you just have to find the right person and it works out..
late supper?
My husband was married twice before me, then we were together 33 good years
i have a friend who finally gave up trying to get married, raised a foster child, and THEN found mr right
low blood sugar - can't do late suppers LOL and it is all arranged - and anyway, if we can't manage to talk for an hour before the film then it's obviously got no future!
<==13 marriage proposals; only one marriage so far
Yep, that's how it is - give up trying and then it happens, same with me, I had just decided I was going to be single forever and OK with it, and then Boom!
jmc!!!!!
he is a keeper, jmc, but I haven't married him yet - maybe that is the trick?
well that didn't help me. . . i just single momed it
ah, another good strategy, sue :)
depends on what you want to commit to uu
I am never marrying again, that's for sure...
do you have children, Glant/
i wouldn't mind with the right guy but i think it would be tough with being my second husband after my hubby who i loved so much
I have 2 but they re 25 and 27 so no issues there
actually I would like to marry him but, umm, he isn't divorced yet (although he's been here over 3 years now)
hmmmm
uh oh.. that's not good news uu
hi ru
I wasn't divorced from #2 when I met #3, even though I'd been separated for 7 years
hijm.. I keep missing you in the chat.
well, it's not a problem in that our situation is quite stable, I would like to get him on my health insurance though
it's not the paperwork that matters, it's the commitment inside yourelf
are you guys in some kinda mormon cult?
lol ruru
hi ruru
i was hard to find last week--in graduate school orientation all day and at night in bumblef**k virginia with no internet
no, we are in the procrastination cult
never had more than pne man oj the go at once LOL so not mormon
uh it is the men who have more than one glan not the other way around
We do?
oh those sneaky mormons
they would be called hookers wouldn't they? lol
hey neil
mormons neil
true, minewho is an ex who won't move out has several on the go
lol - you might be skating on thin ice here ruru
he still lives with you? *shocked look*
ruru likes skating on thin ice
that and in the gutter are his favorite two places
my life seems very boring right now - :)
i can't get the b*gger to leave
"puzzled look"
change the locks?
OH.. *Shocked look*
*Sits in the boring corner with JBV*
oh, I remember all that, glant! Did you ever manage to sell the house?
I'm sure some of ylu know - I found lout about 15 months ago that he had been 'swinging' every time I was away on business
LOL, Molly - no shocking details to share
no, the house is still on the market#
no, the house is still on the market#
Not a one JBV.
i am seeing double now LOL
I know a woman who had to sell her house to get the ex to move. (Her house before they were married)
*quickly ties up the silk swing behind the curtains*
Glant, do you keep in contact with Lilliann? I haven't seen her here in a long time.
gutter... grumbles...
Happily, the 'husband' plans to visit NZ from November to April, the visits several areas of the US during May, so I gte 6 months peace
i always changed my locks when guys moved out (unless they died)
I haven't seen Liliann for ages
lol jmc makes sense
haha poor ru did wittle jmc hurt you feewings?
My husband would chnge them back jmc
i did that for law partners and some of my staff too
i can't get him to move out
how do we know you didn't off them jmc
get a court order
or sue for partition
Going to light some candles in case we lose power brb
(you don't ru--dun-dun-DAAAA!)
husbands...so annoying.
indeed, kap!
they have their advantages kap
now afraid.. very afraid
brb going to go dump the water bucket before it is too dark to do it safely
wish this one could be ex-husband, but although divorce papers were served on him in early June, he didn;t return them to the court...
now and then.
hmmpf, I am half way and rather stuck. maybe I will go to the list.
.. have him stay at JMC's for a couple weeks Glant
your courts won't let it go through after some time regardless?
28 left.
so can he totally stop the divorce, glant, or does that just delay and complicate things?
PLEASE - can I give him your address jmc?
haha yeah the lack of kitchen and back wall of the house is conducive to people wanting to leave
sue glan he can come right on over
just delays and comlications - it appears I need to emply bailiffs to serve the divorce payments on him at a cost of $150
(not to mention the elderberry wine)
it would be worth it to be able to sell the house
lack of alls wouldn't phase him and he LOVES elderberry wone
not familiar with arsenic and old lace?
cary grant?
yes.
he has told me that whe he goes away for 6 months (end of Oct) he has no intention pf paying his share of mortgage
vaguely remember arsenic and old lace
that is okay glan--just keep track and it will come out of his share at the end
you read my mind jmc
Rent out his room while he's gone Glant.
maybe rat poison and Latex
(if you don't know the law, know a lawyer)
yes, but he also won't move hs stuff out or give power of attorney so if the house sells while he is away i am in difficulty
haha and don't forget my whip!
ha ha ruru
i have a loder comeing
no you get the court to appoint someone to sign for him
*lodger
first na 6, please?
a person who cares for your childremn
na6 - watches your babbies
2 vowel ending rather than y
just keep track of all of his obstruction and if possible have witnesses or writings or tapes recordings
See, I'm evil. While he was gone, I would move every bit of his stuff into storage and refuse to tell him where it is until he agreed to sell the house.
hi cyber and bzzn
Hello all.
oh what a stunning idea--but expensive
ty bea and glan
all that is in hand but i am tryingto keep legal costs to a minimum
i am planning to get the 'house clearance' man in as soon as he has gone, to take away hs stuff
i understand, but i thought the british system was that the loser paid the barrister?
cheaper than paying storage
i'd tell him he has one week to move and then his stuff is in the front yard with a FREE sign on it
sounds like it would be the best money you ever spent Glan
nd I have told him his stiuff needs ot go when he does
then tell him it goes in the yard the day after
no sense you paying for it to be stored
i have applied for costs ofr the divorce but the british system doesn't apportion blame for the end of marriages so don't know if i'll get costs
he will be abandoning it
tht's my feeling
well i think it is possible that his being a obstructionist during the process may well work for you
i hope so
especially if you have it in writing or in front of witnesses that he doesn't intend to pay for the mortgage-- then put the stuff on the street is legit
but not being a barrister or a solicitor i do not know british law
Glant, do you have a lawyer advising you? even one consultation might help
i just want it all to be over - i have had to live in the same house knowing that he has been doing his 'other life' since april 2010 and am thoroughly fed up
i bet!
a nightmare, Glant, you deserve much better
the lawyer cists are $400 per hour - and just in cas i have to pa i am trying to keep it to a minimum
stats for the O in the second column
i think jbv makes sense
plus $30 to write a letter and $20 to receive one
on4
I meant just to know what the law is, what you can legally expect, etc. then you can probably do a lot of paperwork yourself
ask him for a 1/2 hour consult and take written questions and barrell through them
last vi 5, please?
preposition, ru
vi5 - add an e to the previous word
i was helping JMC bzz.. I'm done
ty ru and bzzn
sorry
see he talks tough but he is really very sweet *pats ru on the head*
the previous word is a 5
Hi ruru. Did you get an email fwd from jilli?
Trying to huury to the finish as we are without power. The UPS will be going soon.
actually, have you checked your local government (state, province, or whatever, excuse me I'm not familiar with things there) they may offer free counseling for divorce proceedings- I found that out here when I was doing the paperwork for my husband's estate, the County Surrogate Office offered a very detailed, personalized seminar that answered ALL my questions, did not need a lawyer at all
of course that was nothing as complicated as a divorce, but just saying
yes.. I'm going to look at it later.. bet it is a lot of fun.. Thanks for sending it
that is a good point jbv--it may answer some of the questions
sorry nan - end ta from previous word

eo 6: descriptive of a long time
okay i am off to dump my water bucket before it is too dark to do it safely bbl
I read in the paper about how the GOP and the Tea Party are really in disfavor.. and this will show in the next elections.. people are pissed about the jerking around with the budget...
bye -- good luck with the stormy weather, all -- stay safe.
i am off to bed - see you tomorrow - happy babbling
I'm sorry for your current troubles glant.. take care
night, glant!
and ruru, I hope you are right about the TP...
Of course they are, ruru.
I think those that stuck to their guns as far as believing that those that voted them in didnt want ant more money going down the drain were solid in their convictions. No matter what. we need more like them.
Oh he is, Sue.
the polls are very against Boehner and the Tea
ruru, you've gotta see that email. Not only because of my article [about the Tea Party, after attending a protest in Washington DC] but also a short video clip I shot of one of them... you won't believe this guy. He was just too funny not to capture on video. Of course he wasn't "all there" either.
party
I'm not sure any of them are "all there " neil..that's the problem
Boehner didnt keep his word either.
how these whack jobs got so much power is beyond me
No, ruru... they can't be.
And that boggles my mind infinitely.
this is why everyone has to stay involved. Even down to the schoolboard level on up.
It is so disappointing to hear all the BS and rhetoric during the campaigning and then .. forgeddaboutit afterwards..
I'm happy that somethings are ending like Don't ask Don't tell, I wish we could close Guantanamo and get out of Iraq....like promised
Tell me about it.
I have to say .. I am really disappointed in Obama so far. he's not followed through.
He was always a socialist. He never intended to act n what he said. sorry.
Me too, ruru.
that's probably true ...
actually, a socialist is exactly what he isn't; he's quite centrist (Bernie Sanders is a socialist)
Where is his backbone..? Clinton wouldn't have let this crap go one
I'd agree with that, reparteena. Not a lot to choose from.
go on that is.. sorry..
socialists dont need a backbone. they want everyone to be the same. if you are all the same there is no need to fight for anything!!
ruru, just open that email and click the link to the article [first link]. Won't take you long to read. you'll appreciate my protest signs.
unless he was on desk duty I guess.. lol
I will never understand how Obama got the nomination over Hilary Clinton. Mind boggling.
I will neil.. when I'm icing my knee. I have to run some errands and I'll look at it when I get back.
They might want that but it's unachievable. People aren't all the same and never will be.
thanks again for sending them
Oh sorry, ruru. :( Sorry it's hurting you so much.
I for one dont want to give my country up.
yeah.. knealing in church now is out for me...lol
ok--on to another topic?
bye for now

well i dumped out my bucket of water to find it was overflowing already so i will have to dump it out again soon
So far, it's not much of a storm out here in the suburbs. No complaints from me.
mainly rain here molls
::chimes in:: just a rainy day here too...
almost no rain. streets were all dry when I got home.
but the center is to hit here in the wee hours of the morning
radar showed lots of rain and I delayed getting home.
i would be happy but for the leaks
I do have lots of leaflets all over.
so i take that the X serves no purpose
i have an ix4
well call up the companies and make them come clean them up mixi! ;-)

I just hope we don't lose power overnight. I hate waking up to no power. Crappy way to start the day.
i wouldn't mind so much except for the no coffee part
I would mind very much because of the no Babble part
I have that covered. Heat water on the propane camp stove and pour through the Melita one cup maker.
my netbook battery lasts for 5+ hours when i am using it min
Good evening All. I hope all the East Coast Babblers will be safe and sound!
i have been sure to keep all of my charge-able items charged all day, in case the power goes. and we have a gas stove, so i can still cook -- and i prefer tea to coffee, so im good there. :)
no propane stove here--how silly of me not to get one!
How are you doing Nef?
hi nef
no stove here :-(
brb i am going to put my most current pic of my house up
Hello Nef! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
Eva, I have things plugged in charging all over the house. I'm surprised I haven't tripped a breaker.
nothing happened here. going out to dinner. poof.
JMC, those one burner Colman propane thingies are handy in a power outage.
Goodbye mixi6!I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
i call this pic: ready for irene
I'm doing just fine today. DH and I Finally got to see the King Tut Exhibit at the Science Museum today! :-) DH is exhausted, but I'm elated!
my house is so crowded with stuff i would be afraid of setting a fire molly
molly, i have one of those too. i always forget ive got it!
how cool nef
I can't wait to see the "after" pictures.
me either molly :-((((
at least i finally got permits
jmc, do you have any thermos containers? You could make coffee today and put it in a thermos for tomorrow AM (reheat in Microwave before bed)
Progress!
Hi everybody. How goes the hurricane?
calmly, thus far
oh what a good idea nef! i put water in containers since there is a chance of sewage overflow
jmcnrick,I have a battery in my laptop too, however, I lose the internet when the power goes out. Laptop is useless even with a battery because I can't babble.
Hi Soodle! Recovered from the birthday bash?
reheating coffee makes it bitter
Hello Soodlebum! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
Oh god, that would be nasty, jmc.
hmmm you have a point min -- and my boy has my decoder ring for internet which is why i was able to play with the power out before!
hi soodle
I'm like Min. Doesn't matter how long my battery lasts. I'm "power dependent" on the internet. Unless I want to get in the car and find a place I can steal bandwidth.
Hi Molly. A little bit delicate today, but rallying now. The party was a roaring sucess. And Hi Min & Jmc :-)
Will those plastic tarps survive a hurricane?jmc, if you're desperate for coffee, then bitter coffee is better than none (at least for me, anyway!).
well what we need is a solar internet
what was the part for soodle?
i would rather drink luckwarm coffee than bitter coffee
Ah, a crispy day at Chez Soodle. If I were there, I would fix you my signature, spicy Bloody Mary. Fix you right up.
My son's 21st, JMC. A splendid time was had by all.
it really isn't a hurricane anymore nef
whoo hooo soodle's boy!
mmmmm you can make one for me molly
thank goodness, jmc!
It is at the beaches. They are taking a pounding.
Spicy Bloody Marys for all!!
Not for me, thanks. Twill be a while before alcohol and I meet again...
well it is a category 1 but by the time it gets here for real i think it will be a tropical depression
hair of the dog soodle
*Mental note: Drink Soodle's fair share until she is back on her feet*
If Nef really had to be protected from the hurricane, she could go to the Penalty Box.She would feel no 4/4 of the effects there in the Penalty Box.
hey! don't be piggish molly--share with me
haha min you are a hawk tonight
JMC - what's going on with your house?
*Corrected Mental Note: JMC and I must drink Soodle's fair share until she is back on her feet again*
i am building a new kitchen, expanding my bedroom (which is currently under water) and building two decks
that we can do molly *pulls out a long straw*
What did I say? <scrolling back to find a Word!>
wait tell you see the spiral stairs
My last name is HAWKins for a good reason jmcnrick.
hahaha min
Ahh! To the PB I go! <I hope there is chocolate there tonight!
Look at my post at 6:05 Nef.I showed you in the post
Glad I'm not saying much. Seems to easy to end up in the PB if you do!
i heard something about welsh pies earlier nef
Hot fudge cake Nef.
hot fudge cake almost makes me want to eat sugar!
YUM!
I have been there plenty of times.Have my faults too.
Is it fun there, Min?
Wowsers, JMC. Its probably a pain in the neck right now, but surely will be well worth it when finished. (Would soooo love a new kitchen..)
scaredy cat neil!
:P
it is my mother's last gift soodle
Had to recheck my poem and make sure I did not spill any words earlier when I posted it. Glad that I didn't.
i am thinking molly will finally break down and come over when i have my kitchen warming party
i just hope it is done before the snow flies
brb
Trying to change profile pic to show handsome son.
Haha, yeah. That would be bad, Min.
Ooo, Soodle, I saw the family picture on Facebook. What a good looking clan you have.
yikes my bucket was inches from being full--i may not get any sleep tonight
Two phantom words for me are detention & detonate
Oh no, jmc!
you need a bigger bucket, jmc
my phantom was notion
Oh yeah, that is a great phantom word too jmcnrick.
it is a big construction bucket as it is--any bigger and i couldn't lift it to dump :-(
Thank you Molly. (swelling with pride...).
if i don't dump it my bedroom floor will flood
i want to see soodle!
Do you have anybody there to help you so you do not have to keep emptying the bucket yourself jmcnrick?
Your roof and bedroom ceiling are leaking?
Yeah... what Neil said... why all the water, JMC?
no the plastic tarp is getting blown away by the wind and letting water in the back neil
Oh man.
I guress there's no way to secure the tarp?
there is nothing under the plastic tarp but a foot of my bedroom floor and i am a bit nervouse about climbing out in the dark to dump it--long fall
i can't think of one but i am open to suggestions
Yikes. Take care Jmc.
but it would have to be soon because it is getting dark
Are the edges/corners of it within reach?
no the edge that is opening is 8 feet from the floor
Ok, it's that tarp I'm seeing in your avatar photo?
maybe if i put my umbrella out there at a slant it would send the water down
Oh, damn. Is it near that scaffolding and a window? I wish you had someone there to help you with that!
yes and it is the very top edge that is leaking
Hey, I'd give that a shot... hell, I'd try anything!
my sister volunteered but she is older than i am! haha
If you can secure the umbrella so it won't blow away?
I see.
i may try the umbrella--i might could wedge it in under the tarp
back again for a while, sorry if I missed this, jmc, but what about the contractor who's doing this work? can't he secure it for you?
Where, oh where is the big strapping lad when you need him?
i suppose i could call him but that seem kinda excessive--he did a good job securing most of it
Hello JBV! How are you? Welcome back to the chat log
Story of my life, Molls, story of my life. :-(
he is still in indiana and heading to canada
I'd try to do something if I was there.
i appreciate it neil
but did he secure it enough to suffer a hurricane with tons of rain?????????
Hey, that's my line Soodlebum!
jmc, I know something of what you're going through, we had a bad flood one year and I tried to keep up with it by using the water-vac, kept having to go downstairs every half hour or so, emptying it was really hard.....
i think i will try the umbrella system before it gets darker
didn't get much sleep that night either
I would, jmc. Nothing to lose except maybe an umbrella and they're pretty cheap to replace.
Hello ho4/5owl! How are you doing?Welcome to the PB
try anything, but I don't think Irene will have much respect for an umbrella, sorry to say
he did build a brick wall to keep my basement from flooding!
Sorry, your name automatically puts you in the PB HO
brb
hi Min - hate to come in when I'm in the grid!
How about your extra bedroom? Is that dry? Maybe relocate for the night?
not if ho** doesn't say it min!
Haha, so it does. I'm glad mine will never do that.
Oh it won't keep me from sleeping molls but i am worried about the hardwood floors
no - I worry about everyone else saying it!:D
brb for real
They could just call you 'owl'.
I can't ever remember seeing negative in the grid
come do
SOME
The seasoned Babble veterans say that if a player's name is in the grid, it is not a PB offense to use it. Like Peri, who is in the grid ALL the time.
I'm talking about my name, which is Neil.
I'm not gonna stay anyway. I hope some of you are watching the weather channel
But yeah, I guess the first half of my player name could end up in a grid at some point.
Mine will never be in the grid either.Oh my mistake. I have sometimes seen people comment on Perwinkle's name getting her in trouble.HO you are excused 2day
I know you are silly - just a funny....I thought
ty Min
Yeah, the first half could end up in a grid.
I'm watching local coverage Hoot. Our weather guys look pretty good for the marathon they have been in today.
yep
or first part... it's over half.
I just got a recorded call from our local police department saying there's a travel ban in effect - do not go out in a car - they will let us know when it is lifted
I realised today that I have never seen a hurricane in Manhatten. We always got them on the Island though
We got a call from MetLife yesterday saying they're prepared to help people out in any way that they can
If your State is in a state of emergency (and I believe yours is JBV) you have to have a good reason to be out on the road. I don't think it's enforced much though.
really? what does that mean?
yeah! Except paying out I bet
Only hurricane's I have seen in NYC are in the movies
i know jbv, but isn't that funny? I mean... who really wants to go out knowing what we all know! - all hunkered down? (love that phrase)
You are only supposed to be out on the road if it's an emergency.
Hello Dorens! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
same here, Doren - I guess if it's a real emergency you could call 911
high and dry minver, you?
how many times have we heard the phrase "batten down the hatches" today - lost count
doren, you're on top of a hill, right? any chance of flooding?
If you had been watching the weather channel you'g know there are a lot of idiots out there. In Va they were driving sround in pouring rain all over. And some idiot teens running around the guy trying to tell us what was going on!
Did U hear about the minor earthquake in Albany, NY?
Another earthquake, Min?
when today?
well at least we won't be hearing, "nice weather for ducks" no, flooding very unlikely, what is likely is trees coming down and losing electricity (and internet, sob sob) for days
How about the idiots on the beach when there are 8 foot wave surges?
Actually, was in Guilderland which is in Albany County.
power outages are sort of interesting for the first few hours, after that it's just awful
My SCA group on Long Islands nickname was the ducks:D
this afternoon... 2.9... outrageous
I expected the surfers thou!
It was very minor, rated 2.9 on the richter scale 2day
One surfer down south has already been killed. And they had to rescue two dingbats out in a sailboat off the coast of Richmond.
That sound like an "adjustment" Min
I live an hour and a half away from there and I didn't feel a thing.Earthquake was some time this afternoon
It's amazing the lack of brainpower out there
Gotta go to work. Be safe, east coasters!
bye neil - sorry you have to work
Goodbye neil! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log.
left martha's vineyard today... noticed a house just framed right on the water yesterday, would bet money that will be demolished tomorrow
Hey Dorens, did U see President Obama? He was there
Well cheaper to replace a frame than a house
glad you got off the island OK - how was the trip back?
back
I'm listening to a replay of Mayor Bloomberg's press conference - I'm pretty impressed with his Spanish!
saw three hue helicopters fly overhead last night while we were eating dinner... pretty sure it was them! but didn't see him...tried to get sasha or malia to babysit for my grandkids, no luck. Ride home today was just fine... glad to have beaten the heavy rain.
yes, I caught that jbv... his pronunciation isn't the best, but it's cool that he did it himself
please forgive my denseness, but can someone explain why we are advised to fill our bathtubs with water to flush the toilet - I mean what would have to happen for running water to be cut off - I'll do it, but would like to understand why
I am glad that you got back safely Dorens.I hope you remain safe there in New Jersey. Is it bad there yet?
he's been studying, doren, I remember when he started taking lessons, started from zero, nada!
morning girls :)
it's raining, what can I say? i've seen worse
if power goes out water co can't pump it.
hey mrP. how you going?
i am reading back and all doesn't look right in the USA... what is happening please?
because sometimes the pumps for the water lose power
ah, a simple explanation - so it has nothing to do with power in my house, but from the source, thanks h***
Hello mrpresident! How are you? Welcome to the grid.
we're in the path of a giant hurricane, mrp
hurricane mrp lots of rain
hurricane irene, mrP a huge one socking it to the northeast... nyc closed down public transport... unprecedented
oh shoot! that is aweful... i hope you all stay safe!! ((hugs))
up the whole east coast
but, of course, the really simple solution is the country one: if its yellow let it mellow; its is brown flush it down
Hurricane Irene has hit the East Coast and moving up
closing down the buses was stupid imho
ROFL Jmc. The voice of reason!!
Well you don't use it unless you really need it. I did it once and it doesn't last long!
i lived through
MUCH worse hurricanes than this
I have heard that before. Here is another version: If it's pee, let it bee. If it's pooh, you know that to do!
jmc! break the chog!!
oops so sorry i do not know what my computer does that but i wish it would stop
i like that min!!! LOL
your enter key is getting stuck
but i thought the chop was not suppose to enter if it was empty
*chog
Jmc - the very same happened to me a few days ago. I was (falsely) accused of falling asleep on the keyboard ......
haha
Pets are famous for getting accused of doing it also.
hmmm, true... babble expert doesn't let it happen
the worse time was when i put my laptop on the floor and unknowingly had my foot on the keys
It just made me and I don't know why!
but hoot can do it too! and min!
what are you doing?
*baffled look*
i can't get it to do it
Carlee said earlier that if you type two letters into the word box in Babble Expert, it shows up in the chat box.
.
I got a message to send my message which didn't exist!
Oh look what you have started here jmcnrick! LOL!
if I put a dot in there, it did
ye
*hangs head in shame*
this is one of the more unusual conversations i've seen here
I got that message too, but I just hit enter key again
only if you hit the space bar after the two letter
anything to get away from the weather
I have to get up and change the channel - I just realized they are looping the mayor's press conference, I think I've heard it 3 times LOL
indeed owl
LOL Dorens! This is called the invisible conversation.
Dorens.... nothing I see on Babble surprises me anymore. Thats the beauty of Babble :-)
that is a very 'ingesh' thing LOL
don't know why i'm always glued to the tv for these things.. i usually don't watch tv new
jus tpopping in to give you a big hug MRP
back, I'm listening to music now - that non-stop hurricane-is-coming news is irritating
you are looking for the evacuation orders doren
not surprised soodle.. but if one were just to read it without having "been here" they'd be kind of curious, don't you think?
I think I should read, but I can't seem to concentrate
but why jmc? I won't be evacuated on top of my very steep hill
I'm off to bed now. I hope all Babblers on the East Coast stay safe, dry and warm. Nite all. Poof
Here is a poem I made up in honor of Irene: Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane Irene, One of the worst we've ever seen. Please play it safe, please play it cool. Don't go out in this and be a fool. Stay inside and protect your things. Who knows what Irene will bring. Fortunately there will be an end in sight and the sun will come out shining bright.
the umbrella seems to be working
bye soodle
doren, you're in a place most people head for "higher ground"
Dorens, I keep our local news feed on in another window. Just in case something happens that I need to know about.
sweet dreams soodle
nite soods
that's great, Min!
minveryork: babble poet laureate
and i am off for dinner
and hooray for jmc's umbrella - at least it will give you some rest between emptying buckets
bye carlee
bye carlee
chog is moving so fast!!!
toodles! and stay safe and dry on the east coast!!!
hi and bye carlee!! ((luving hugs))
true but it is a lot noisier
WD-40, duct tape, the umbrella. Life's quick fixes.
Goodbye carleekat! I will see you tomorrow in the log
don't forget epoxy
Chog moving so fast, mine got stuck. Had to refresh.
i prefer the noise over going out on the ledge at night
Good old epoxy. Fixes what's broken and gets you high at the same time.
my daddy actually had wd-40 when it was still a prototype
loved that stuff
Before WD-40, people used Crisco.
now if he had invented it, you'd be a rich lady
no but he worked at what is now exxon
Oops, they just closed The Bay Bridge. That means the high winds are on the way. They don't shut that thing down unless winds are over 55MPH.
hi everyone
so the things he did invent belonged to them
Hello jesdraggon! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
i suspect it is gusts that are over 55mph
hi jess
well, it was to be expected molly... i saw a tv reporter barely able to stand up an hour ago
People in Ocean City have been told that if they have a life threatening emergency, they are SOL.
hi jes
actually dan rather got his big break for staying on galveston island during carla a category 4 or 5 hurricane
There is a surge going into the bay - I think they are worried about a breech or overflow!
weren't they told they have to leave yesterday molly?
I saw that too, doren - why do they do that? it's really ridiculous, I'm waiting for some brave reporter to refuse to go out there and do that and report from inside a warm studio "Hurricane winds are too dangerous to be standing around on a beach"
i remember seeing that footage of dan rather
Yep, so the ones that chose to stay have no emergency response teams.
oh but that wouldn't appeal to the masses!
if they took that attitude they wouldn't be reporters
photographers are even crazier
You don't get it! What these reporters are doing is the grownup equivent of the teenagers thrill seekers
a photographer runs toward whatever everyone else is running from
Good thing negativeneil is not here to see your post.
i know that and I still think it's ridiculous. All it will take is one brave person or network to say so
some of them sometimes don't look that happy though, ht owl... the reporters
it is probably in their contract... nasty
no it is not in their contracts per se but it does come with the territory
they're out there saying, don't take chances, don't take risks, stay indoors, and they're standing on the edge of the ocean!
Equivelent to storm chasers running after tornadoes?
maddison is studying journalism and has been told by the UNI, that she faces grave danger in that field
No one looks happy when soaked to the skin and need a rest room. They just like living dangerously
right mrP or even if it isn't, their days could be numbered if they are "insubordinate"
would you want your war news to be what reporters only got from department of defense sources?
well, that's a little different, Min, since I think many of them are collecting scientific data
yes Min - exactly!
The day Dan and I got married (and we got married at a town over The Bay Bridge) we had a Nor'easter. We were both afraid they would close the bridge.
Great excuse that huh?
she was given an hour long interview about journalism danger! unreal
so should the electricians who are putting back lines in the storm refuse to go out and do it?
memorable wedding molly
i hope journos get paid heaps!
great story in our local paper today, a couple whose wedding was ruined by terrible weather and a few other disasters in 1970 or something, decided to renew their vows TODAY! of course, it had to be canceled again!
hah!
I heard that the Pepco guys can't go up in the buckets if the winds are over 40MPH.
jbv... never meant to be?? LOL
In the case of a hurricane I doubt they would go out until the worst was over
http://tinyurl.com/3oqdy7p
she said she would like to reschedule but is afraid what will happen the third time:)
and because of that people will complain about their electricity being out
we had a tornado come through and it took 3 days to allow ANYONE near the lines... the winds had to be below 40kts
My news was showing a wedding that happened in NJ this morning. I forget where in NJ, but you could see the beach in the background. It was supposed to be outdoors, but they brought wedding indoors instead.
Well at least she still has a sense of humor!
Oh that is an awful story JBV. I would feel cursed.
my uncle was a power company electrician and he went out in terrible weather
it was kind of funny, the way they told it - i'll try to find the link
maybe they are the cause of the hurricane?? LOL!
it was in long branch... the big hotel in the background of it is where the nj school counselors association meets every october
I saw that, Min - Long Branch, NJ
People will complain about everything
my colleague was married in the same place three years ago
Somber link you posted JMC.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/ 08/hurricane_irene_cancels_byram.html - the wedding story
well it is one of the things i talk about when people act as though soldiers are the only people who risk their lives for freedom
And a very good point it is.
We have been seeing some amazing reporting out of Libya
(on CNN)
There was a whole group I think in Va that married in the morning incase they couldn't get married later that day.
okay what well known red-skin player who insulted a supreme court justice is in the grid today
no red skin player is that well known that I would be able to find that jmc
haha dorens
(haven't followed football in over twenty five years)
come on molls you know this
Hog! No wait...
It has been my experience that someone trying to get someone to do something they don't believe is right will pull out the soldiers to lay a guilt trip on them!
it is a particular player molls
en 7 please?
vix?
i agree with dorens :)
I read about that but don't remember who it was
(nice fringe benefit of unemployed is no de5/14 threats recently)
i may have misspelled his nickname
e+na6
John. . . .
That en 7/28 word is en plus the na6/18 word Dorens
nbc news has this poor guy standing outside in virginia beach now... not standing too steady
Looking...looking
Riggans = Rigo!

yw
Riggo has two g's. No wonder I couldn't find it

hi Dorens
sorry molls it was a stretch
Hello kje!How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log

Totally forgot about clues. Haven't seen anybody ask for clues since this afternoon! I've just been chatting
dangit. *slinks off to pb*
damn! *goes to pb*
ok..not going for dinner..the brakes on my car just failed...
but you're ok??
oh no! carlee are you okay?
heheh. party in the penalty box? :)
WHAT???
omg, car! did you hit anything?
Goodbye JBV! I will see you later on the chog maybe.
be well jbv
well..my car is in one piece and I am home again...so yeap..am ok
bye jbv
that's kinda scary, car. hope no damages?
that's good!!
(at least that wont send me to the pb)
major bummer though!
did you take that pic, dorens? love it!
i just didnt stop at the corner... so i went slowly around the block and came home
The Penalty Box is very crowded today.Must be some party going on in their today. Tempted to spill a word
well..i made a wicked bean salad to take for the potluck ( was all dressed up and everything :( )
bye, jbv
*sets up irish coffee in the pb*
oh dear can no one come pick you up?
best way to do it if they have to fail, car
wish i could say i did kj, i just put it up there the other day cause jilli shamed me into trying to follow the theme. it lasted one day. but I did see arenal erupt, at night, from the hot springs nearby and it was very cool
?
And this was an all of a sudden thing with your brakes? They haven't been squeaking or grinding or anything?
*shares cookie dough with pb partiers*
yum!
very weird stuff happeneing here... carlee, what's in your bean salad was typed prior to that question mark
no squealing..no grinding...jus started a REALLY funny pulse when i went to brake...and and the car would not stop ( no liquid in my driveway so no brake fluid loss )
*puts on foil cap*
I'll type the recipe in my profile dorens...give me a second
any enemies?
I assume you have anti-lock brakes?
lol jmc!
ty kje your icon reminded me i was being lax about folding@home
don't know why, but i'm expecting cumin.
wicked=cumin
ok..recipe in profile
folding at home?
yes anti lock molls...
no cumin in the recipe jmc
the program that uses the pauses in your computer to help fold molecules and look for the cure to cancer, etc.
aaahhhh - ok
crossy has more detail in his profile
I cant do folding at home...i get nailed for over useage of internet
oh that is too bad carlee i never thought of that
ok...getting a dinner for myself thrown together
It's probably a dirty sensor or a valve problem Carlee. Nothing to fool around with.
hi again, all, hope the east coast contingent is doing ok - good to see some of you are still online...
i am fine
good to hear, jmc!
I talked to my dad earlier, he is all set - water, flashlights, battery-operated radio, and had just finished hard-boiling some eggs
good idea!
unfortunately no way to do with a microwave
Good evening, I need one clue that I am struggling with and that is gi6/24, please?
hi, marc! like a baby cat...
So far so good Sue. Our beaches are getting hammered though.
except with two changes (first consonant and last vowel)
which is why i came home
thanks uusue but don't get the clue
oh yes, hurricanes are devastating to beaches
ty uu
now i have to fab together a dinner when i was expecting a huge...potluck
thanks, uusue
I must be slow tonight neither clue is helpful, sorry
take the word for baby cat - obviously the first letter is different since it's a gi word - then change the last vowel as well, now you have the gi6/24
too bad carlee--no one you could call to come pick you up?
sunset at 8:15 was 8:05 by time i limped home... they would have missed magrib prayer
oh well then share iftar with us
bean salad in the pb
Got it finally thank uusue2 a lot. Have to go now sorry
Glad to hear your Dad is okay Sue. JMC, you can hard cook eggs in the microwave. It's a pain in the butt though.
bye, marc!
wazap yall?
i am not up to a pain in the butt uu but ty
bye marc
hi book
how do you keep them from exploding, molly? Put holes in them?
and hi, gwen!
the rain has dropped off but the wind is picking up
Yep, you put them in a greased custard cup and poke holes in them.
are they any good?
how long do you cook them?
I have a microwave egg cooker but you have to break the eggs into it - even then they tend to explode unless you prick the yolks
I think they cook in about a minute or so
Minute, minute and a half per egg. I think you can cook scrambled eggs in the nuke too.
okay since all i have to wash dishes in is a tiny bathroom sink or my shower i will definitely pass
hehehe u can molls... and the way i have seen them done is you mix plain yogurt in them <snort>
i might scramble some later
getting tired of the loud noises coming from not my apartment . . . grrrrrrrr
*Sticks tongue out at Carlee*
you should try here book
*tarp bangs against house*
no thanks JM
JMC, you need to get one of those one burner electric counter top cookers.
you can do baked potatoes in the microwave, jmc, and they are not at all messy (although again it helps if you poke them with a fork first)
oh i usually do potatoes in the microwave
i always start my baked potatoes in the microwave then finish in the oven....( I like the skin a bit crispier )
can make rice crispie squares inthe microwave too
and my phantom is . . . . . dun da da dah . . . annotation
i bought a silicone (i think) steamer for the microwave which is working out well for rice and fish
but jmc doesn't have an over, carlee, so I was trying to suggest things that were easy to do in the microwave
*oven
mine is notion book
one more word and i am 1/2 way
you could boil eggs using an electric frying pan jmc
do pasta dishes in there too ( home made hamburger helper just use lots os tomato juice and water together to "boil" the pasta )
the problem with the electric frying pan -- an my forman grill -- and my crock pot is too hard to clean with no sink
but thank you all for brainstorming solutions for me
Ew...they shut the sewage treatment plant down in Ocean City. They can't flush their toilets. Ew.
ahhhh...camping method JMC..use ur elctric frying pan AS ur sink ( this is what i so when am camping if i have an electric site )... use the pan to heat the water when camping...
ah interesting idea carlee
Wash them in the tub, JMC.
i haven't had an electric frying pan in a while but that is an idea
the tub in on the second floor molls
and vitiation grrrrrr
wow book you are grumpy tonight! lol
then a plastic tub of water ( camping basin ) with warm water for rinsing
grrrrrrrr am not grrrrrrrrrrrrr
*sprinkles lavender water near book*
*Thinks JMC is just happy not washing dishes* : P
BDG is just doing an impersonation of a bear...Bravo BDG Bravo!!!
come on over molly and try it! lol
no, i'm growling in honor of dick cheney's book, grrrrrrr LOL
haha well go for it then book!
been there done that JMC... I had my sink in my basement... my fridge in my front hall closet, my small appliances in my living room... my pantry in the family room ( level between living room and basement )
yeah i went through something similar the winter my hubby died--my pipes in my new (now missing) kitchen kept freezing so i had to get water from the second floor and then the water in dc got contaminated so i had to boil it before i used it for anything
i DID have a stove...but no "sink" the stove with under a plastic sheet most times to protect from drywall dust etc... and somehow I managed to cook xmas breakfast and dinner for 12 and everyone sat on the floor in my living room.. ( b/c DXH insisted we still host xmas and his Lazy A$$ family would never DREAM of helping me out )
*gives carlee the halo she deserved*
but you also deserve a kick in the pants for putting up with it
no jmc... no halo
finally 1/2 way
okay i am taking a break and checking on the umbrella
yay, jmc!
bbl
good luck, jmc!!
grrrrr, darn goose
hmm..i had a small sammie...some bean salad and some tuna pasta salad...not sure what else to have...i have been salading like mad lately....i need something starchy...
goose?
Popcorn!!
the bear is chasing the goose now....best protect the hairy nosed dolphin
oh, THAT goose, thx, was just looking for it :-)
maybe molls..was thinking of cooking up some perogies...
Now THAT is starchy.
yeah, that darn goose, grrrrrrrrr
my extensive storm prep consisted of plugging in all charge-able items, baking a cake, making some homemade butternut squash soup, and ordering pizza.
i have been eating beet salad, green bean salad, pasta salad, bean salad tomatoes... cucumbers... for a week...
sounds good to me, eva :-)
love butternut squash bisque....mmmmmmm
my first time making the soup, and its SOOOO YUMMY! not a bisque, but still surprisingly thick. just right for me, anywho. and minimal points, so i can have lots!
I just love a woman who is ready for anything!
already told hubby i would be making a HUGE batch to freeze.
geez, we have the dolphin, the goose, the greek temple, the peruvian money, the south african plant - is it me or are there a lot of babblets in this grid?
we still have clear skies..i dont think we will see any clouds even from teh storm :(
Good Lord, tornado warnings for Bethany and Rehoboth.
babblets, grrrr
hmmm..what else do i want...
cookies
chicken
i'm just bummed about diiner...woul dhave had a selection of fresh fruits..and baklawa and cakes..and other yummies
<sigh> after 3 types of curry and salads and rice and humous and breads ( home made fried bread its SOOO yummy )
oops, I said a long time ago that I had nbt but it turns out (with 22 left) that I am missing the lower right t. oh well.
i'm getting ready to bop someone
Baklawa? Did Elmer Fudd make it? : )
NOW I have nbt. Really.
ROLF
oh... sorry molls...its baklava in greece... but in arabic they dont have a "v" sound...no "v" in their alphabet...so...its called baklawa
sorry clicking through but the elmer fudd remark got me going
*poof*
i know someone who makes baklawa, and he likes to point out the differences between the greek and arab versions
as i dont chum with greeks but i do chum with arabs....i call it baklawa
That stuff is too rich for me.
does he do with honey or sugar water syrup bdg?
and does he use rose and/ or orange water?....pistachio ???
he makes the arab kind, but now i can't remember which is the one with honey! (yep, i'm useless)
( the way we do it ( or arab do it) they make little rolls..its about 2 bites/ cookie)
i've eaten both, and i like both, and that's the important part LOL (grrrrr)
we do with honey b/c there is no water in the honey..if you freeze it with the sugar water it gets gooey... looses its crispiness but with honey it doesnt
you are still growling, gwen.
Popping out of lurkdom to say I love your avatar Gwen!
am not grrr
You gotta love the traffic cam shots of all the yee-hahs driving around in bad weather when a state of emergency is in effect.
passing bdg the bear a plate of honey soaked baklawa to entertain her
still nee three more for nbt, double grrrr
aw, thanks you mama!
which ones, gwen (now that I really truly have nbt)?
how about fresh salmon poached , with green beans and new potatoes marinated in balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard , olive oil, fresh tarragon. Garnished with tomatoes, artichokes and hard boiled eggs?
oh, yummmm
Book Doctaw Gwen wiwl wove her baklawa

i suppose i could toddle to my kitchen and start baking...and at midnight have a sliceo f cake...
how about raspberry jam and a chocolate ganache in between?
Carlee, you make me laugh. You cook and bake non-stop and now you want probably the only thing that you haven't made in the last week.
meanwhile I have a dozen slices of chocolate cake in zip locs in my freezer
no..i dont want chocolate
fireworks! last word was the last vi5/16, which I never would have gotten without morewords

okay, i am stumped, can anyone clue one or both of the I words from the middle column, 4th row down?
I think one is io4
i enjoy chad meyers... he was so much fun as our local weatherman..bdg do u remember him at WXYZ?
DOH! yes, you are right!
(TY Molly, woo hoo!)
iv5/18 is the other (like college walls)
carlee, nope, i haven't watched local news for maybe 25 years
no..its not... take a climging green plant and let it cover a wall..the wall is now iv5,18
oops, iv5 is from that i, but the io4 is not. scratch that previous holla
I can't tell what comes from what once I'm done.
ah..he was morning guy while jerry hodack was evening..he wanted to stay in detroit but left for cnn b/c jerry would "never retire"....during the black out..i emailed him a question ( how long start to finish of all the power lines going down did the power crash take )
in4/4 is the other (not the preposition but a babblet ending in a different vowel)
well i have nbt anyway, so woot for that
anyway..he replied in like 5 mins <------ shocked....so i replied telling him thank you and that i missed him at wxyz...he emailed back with a bit of a rant about jerry hodack..was kinda weird...
got the dolphin, still hunting though
yay, gwen!
carlee, interesting, sounds like he has some exposed nerve endings, so to speak
right column grey
the in4/4 (not the dolphin or the preposition) is a "former monetary unit of Peru" which I have of course never seen anywhere but here
yay, jes!
headache is not getting any better, think i'm gonna eat something and lie down, or lie down and eat something. later, buddies
top row grey
bye, gwen, take care of yourself!
sleep sweet, gwen. hope your head feels better soon.

have it
we had lots of free corn, looked at the airplanes, looked at the old cars
now a t6
there's another immediately after that, but i don't have it yet
Sounds like fun Sue.
the very first ta6 is a babblet with a lot of vowels
the last tr6 is meaningless stuff
duh I knew that. firewords
all the other t6 are past tense
yay, wild!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
ok, time for me to crash. see you all tomorrow!!!

bah. canada is always snowy, the tv says so. :)
kids go back to school next week,we usually get an amazing september then all best are off after that as i have seen heavy snow on halloween
lol
not to worry.do you not know? with the global warming we will be the new florida in 50 years and everything south of us will be like afganistan
well, maybe snow is wishful thinking on my part...90 degrees here today
ghads. i don't wanna live in afghanastan!
i have seen it snow as early as oct 20th and as late as may the tenth.the coldest i have personally felt is minus 40c
but our winters are nothing last 4 yerars or so..hardly break -20 any more
my dog is on crack tonight
yeah, last year we got about 3 inches of snow.
cats are always on crack lol
-20 is cold enough....but yes have had -40
year before that though, we got 5 feet in one day, and another foot the next day.
DOG is on crack
And this is different behavior for your dog because?
do what we used to do with our big old newfoundland dog when we were young..just pour him a beer lol
because, molly, usually he's on meth.
Thank you Dr. Jes.
just one though..give them 2 beers and they howl all night
Hope PCP isn't next.

Was just reading back in the chog. If jmc is still on or comes on, try taping a hose in your bucket with the other end outside and using it as a siphon. Once you get the action going it will continue, unless it gets sucked dry, in which case you will have to restart it. Better than emptying the bucket all the time. ( It was jmc, wasn't it? If not, to whom it my concern!)
Hello broll! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
And yes, that was jmcnrick. That is a very good idea.
just popping in. See my fingers are not going to cooperate! (Had to retype this little bit 3 times0
) not 0!
Overall sentiment in this area is that the hurricane effect weather is not as bad as it could have been. Hope that proves true for points north.
en 6/21 pls

thanks min.

by the time it gets up here molly i think that the wind etc will be not much more to us than a good blizzard from the north in winter time..some feet wil get wet,but at 50kph when it gets up here ,i think it will be a non-issue
that is great to hear, Molly, although right now I'm hearing some pretty scary wind outside
Hope it doesn't get all the way up to you Cross. JBV, I hope you get some sleep, despite the scary sounding wind.
thanks, Molly
in 5/10 pls

Congratulations big red on your fireworks!Way to go

hi all, getting in some babbling before we lose power.
hello natasha hope you don't lose it
me too, westford, thanks. they seem to think it is likely though
still pretty mild here--we've got a few hours before things heat up.
here too
maybe she'll just blow out to sea
oh yeah, I see you aren't too far from me! good luck to you.
thanks, you too
I'm more anxious to see what will happen in NYC
Hello Natasha! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Hi westford! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi min sorry I was away for a bit I'm doing well just waiting for Irene
how are you?
I am well. I am waiting for Irene also. Nervous about trees. Not sure if I should sleep in my bedroom tonight
if you're worried then don't
big trees around your house?
We have three big ones in the front of the house. I'm not sure any room would be safe to sleep in. Maybe I should just try to stay up all night. Maybe I'm playing in 4/4 all of this hype from watching the news all day.
they do like to hype things up
we had a big pine tree removed last year..it was right up against the back of the house
was it pining for your house?
and our neighbor in back has a huge tree that had a branch as big around as most trees and he had that cut a few weeks ago
Hello rururocks! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
hi ruru..making me laugh as usual
Hubby wanted to get rid of trees, but I did not want to spend the money. Plus I like the privacy trees give
trees are good
we have tons of trees
big ol' redwoods?
Idaho.. Honey Locust, Japanesse Maples, CHinese Pistache trees, and a humongous cherry tree for starters
too hot and dry here for redwoods
oh that sounds beautiful ..I want a Japanese maple
ours is gigantic.. covers the whole courtyard
we have a little cherry tree but it has never bloomed or borne fruit
ours makes fruit.. but the birds get most of them..
I raided the tree last year before they did.
we didn't even know what it was until the nursery man told us
did you bake a cherry pie? Billy Boy?
my neighbors steal some too
I'm not good at Pie crusts..dang it
when we lived in Camarillo we had so many fruit trees and our taxes went up..CA thing
those PIllsbury crusts save the day
I better get dinner going..see you later
bye for now
Goodbye rururocks! I will see you tomorrow in the log
bye
Heavy wind and rain starting here, just as forecasted
still nothing here in RI..we did have some rain this aft
oh min, I've been meaning to ask how are your international charges?
behaving themselves?
Do you mean my ESL students? My summer job is over
yes, that's what I meant
so you're a lady of leisure now
Which is good since we went to NYC every weekend.
did you and they have a good time?
Sort of a lady of leisure. Been babysitting my niece & nephew. Was there for 3 days last week.I'm supposed to go again Monday. Hopefully I'll be able to get there
Monday looks clear and bright
bet you're having fun with them
It was a great job for me, but it was so much work. I learned a lot about NYC.And yes, Monday looks good, but I am worried about trees in the road blocking my ability to be able to get to her house in Connecticut.
hopefully they'll have the roads cleared
hello babblers
Hi 72 Temple Owl!How are you doing? Welcome to grid
hello TO what's happening in your neck of the woods ( as they like to say on TV )
Was hoping to make it to the flip, but I am exhausted
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow
good night min stay safe
Just up from basement for tornado warning, and it's not even here yet. It's going to be a long long night.
oh no what next?
wel there is no thunder, I guess i should run on ac vice battery
Where in Pa are you TO?
I thought it was south border
nite Min
Hello all -- 39 to go but too tired.
Thinking a lot about all those in Irene's path.
come on jilli I can help
willo grove ish
Figures it would be an area I don't know :D
hi jilli saw pbs special about beluga whales tonight and they showed the area around your husband's family's summer home
I'll look it up
Nah, hoot, thanks but I can't be bothered.
I don't want to spell it wrong
the s river and tad...
near woulfie. actually tornado warning was for him as well
ok jilli
I was afraid of that.
Not gonna call at this hour!
Oh yes, west -- whale watching is big around there. It was hubby's uncle who got that going, years ago. He had a biologist friend visiting who identified what everyone had called porpoises as belugas, and what everyone had called "the grampus" as minke whales.
what an absolutely beautiful area
no sightings reported and warning has expired.
The Saguenay River and Tadoussac, west, lol!
that's it lol
Yes, it is beautiful.
good - I have had the weather channel on all day but went in to watch a movie with the BF so haven't caught up yet
TO next you'll be having an erupting volcano
I have CNN on -- constant reporting on Irene.
no i think the locusts and frogs are next. i am praying my trees stay put
hah = I've got locusts! Even had a few in the house!
i am sleeping fully dressed tonight
does anyone have a clue for the go6/24 please
actually, not sleeping at all, though i caught myself doing earlier
trendy beard
ah thanks
Son and d-i-l are still at Tad -- planned to go kayaking tomorrow. Change of plans! They are just a bit west of northern Maine, so in the path I think.
If the warning is over you shouldn't get anything but heavy rain - go to sleep
no, they can spin off any time and i am on top floor
oh boy jilli hope they do change plans
they did, west
yes jilli - unless it dissipates
It will probably pour rain like Hurricane Hazel decades ago -- still no fun for kayaking.
I'm totally fascinated at the locations they are using on Long Island. Not the ones I've ever seen them there before
I remember Hazel
No ones on Fire Island or the Montauk lighthouse - but that may have gone down the cliff after I keft
omg jili i am crossing myself. there has been talk about the heavy rain for the interior, which most would not expect. but it can never be like hazel again in this day and age.
I don't even remember most of the ones on LI...except Gloria
I was living in an apartment house and I got my power back in 4hrs because I was in the same loop the hospital down the street was on. I was never so popular!
bet you were hoot
I cooked a roast tonight so we'd have something to eat we cook with electric and don't even have a grill
I sat in my living room watching stuff in the street going south - went out during the eye - went back in and watched all that stuff come back again
how about ice west?
If you have a yard you can dig a hole, build a fire and cook over that
i want to eat now, it is nerves
we have a yard and a fireplace in the living room
you've got it made!
west, i heard one should turn fridge and freezer to highest setting jus tin case, but mine was freezing the cold stuff
never thought about ice
we can get cubes from the fridge maybe I'd better put some in a cooler
i have been making ice all ngiht just in case, nearly time to dump and refill. have blue ice as well
good idea TO I just did a big shopping and the freezer is full
going to try not to open it
Nice to know you are all prepared
we have those blue ice packets
have flashlights and candles and 2 cats outside..will be fun getting them in
Is it a chest freezer west
They like sitting in the rain??
the height of the storm is to be around 4 am here. west, if you have power you can open. west be careful , you are on the bad side and judging fromn the good side that's saying something
TO it's an upright freezer in the basement; hoot they like to be out in the summer and usually find shelter
Fill up a bathtub.
cats that is lol
2,000,000,000 without power so far - good lord!
I never knew what for until they explained that on the Weather Channel
oh my
why would the toilet not flush if you do not have a well pump?
couple people died in Va - don't know if they are the same ones or new
if power goes out you won't get water unless utility has back-up power
Why do people insist on sight-seeing during thing like this?
not me I'm perfectly happy sitting in my den
i fear the worst for my brother's house on the lagoon
hello all, and good evening, I hope
me too. I actually did it once when a friend of mine needed a ride from school to her home. NOT fun!Farmingdale to glen cove if you want to check amap. Took about 4hrs for about 30mi
hello stid
TO, if one's home is served by a well, as ours is, and the power goes out, the well stops pumping. Then the toilets can't refill after the first flush.
hi stid!
Hi stid -- interesting icon -- what is it?
I'm just about to change mine to the next theme suggestd by sue -- planetary nebulae.
brb
It's the view from Mother's home earlier this week. No photoshopping, the water was as still as anything!
Mother took the pic.
My goodness, stid! I did wonder if it was there.
darn, just changed my icon but wrong day!!
hello flosey! Happy to see you here!
hi stid
but that really is some ugly icon you have stid!
never mind, flosey, it's right for today -- and gorgeous. We had those in our Hudson place.
look at it in biggie-size, flosey...
looks (sort of) like a slice of layer cake
we had them where we lived from 1 - 13 years old, 3 huge ones and my brother tapped them every spring
I think stid's icon looks like a kind of choclit layer cookie here.
mmmm. layer cake. *sigh* I have been brutal this week with what I put in my mouth, trying so hard to get my body back to a semblance of healthy.
Hello ladies. Just checking in to see how people on the east coast are managing.
lol, me too stid
hi bugs
(((bugs)))
ok peeps, taking a break to make more ice and fill bathtub, be back at the flip
I checked Facebook today and saw your news stid. I hope the job works out. It sounds perfect
We tapped our big sugar maples too, cooked the sap on our electric stove to make the world's most expensive maple syrup, lol!
be safe Owl. Blessings!
clue for last one please..an 5/10 not similar to crying vegetable
Hi bugs. Did you check my FB entry this evening?
we had a 'quebec heater' in the kitchen - I think that's what you call those old stoves
thanks bugs -- it's a win-win whether I get the job or not. There are many teachers who want to reserve me to sub for them if I don't get the job. And if I do get the job, it's only a year long. So... either way there is a bit of built-in sanity.
an + picnic pest with different vowel
be well, TO
I did Jilli. I liked what you did at bridge today. I watched the funeral and was quite moved.
yes, flosey -- that makes more sense for making syrup!
thank you flosey !!!

YAY west! hope you are safe during this storm too
jilli I saw your story about Jack and sent it to my husband he was so impressed with the man as was I
flosey is much more addicted than she thot?
thanks bugs I think we'll be fine
might get a little flooding
I never totally trust the news people because they tend to find the worst scene and give the impression that it is that bad all over.
and 29. A good number. I am going to bid you-all bonne nuit. Sweet dreams, safe journeys, and hopefully a happy day tomorrow. (((Hugs and choclits for all))) *poof*
I've been concerned about my online bridge partner of many years, he's in NJ

Thanks, west -- I hope people continue to honour Jack and his principles.
Hi grem
New Jersey seem to be getting a lot of wind & rain
flosey, my old friends are in NJ and I emailed them -- they feel safe, being inland and not in a low-lying area.
Shore is probably flooding
thanks hoot - presume they'll be quite happy if that's all they get
I'm trans71fixed to CNN, 71 left!
