Yes, habits are hard to break.
to break a habit, one needs to deepfreeze it and then hit it with a hammer
haha!
liquid nitrogen is even better.
yeah, that should do the trick
My habits are incorporeal ... where is the mind located ... and how does one get it in the freezer?
wouldn't want your mind in any freezer, BabbleRabble. The fridge will do nicely, just to keep it cool.
ok, I had better go roust everybody or it will be midnight before we get home, bbl
oh boy, you guys are really making me chuckle today!
bye uusue, have a safe trip
chuckling is good. Shakes up the liver, as they say in the netherlands.
good luck and drive safe, Uusue :)
curious expression, Sprite!
Makes you bile rather than smile?
yeah it is. Seems that the ole dutchies thought that shaking up the liver was good for our health... by laughing. Guess it is related to the old fluid thing... melancholia, choleric, etc.
lol BabbleRabble
weird re7/36, ends in a picnic pest

Hi Scrabbs
ty molly got it and fireworks
Did you and Bobby enjoy the movie?
Congrats Matches.
congrats, matches!!
Filed under...useless words that only count in word games : )
Scrabbs, Very much so. Bobby loves Judi Dench. He had a good day. We had lunch first then the movie. Then we had gelato...delicious.
Gelato---yum!!
Sounds like fun, Annie. I've heard people raving about that movie, can't wait to see it.
pistachio gelato
I did some yardwork at my mother's house yesterday then took her out for dinner.
The cast is superb
Scrabbs, How is she doing? Do you live near her?
That was nice of you, Scrabs. I'm sure Mom appreciated the company.
Annie, I cannot have ice cream here because it calls me from the freezer--"Eat me, eat me." I have no control with ice cream. No other food does that to me.
okay, no acknowledgement of clues from you lot..i'm outta here

Hi Ruru.
Scrabbs, Where was your mother raised?
bye and Hi granny rose
Whoa Granny. Maybe Matches didn't get your clue. It's all good.
goodmorning scrabbers
hi ruru, bye grannyrose
Utica--east side, all Italian and Sicilian immigrants. Her mother was from Napoli, father from Sicily. Interesting stories.
Memories of the past can be comforting while dealing with grief.
I love those stories.
my grandparents were from sicily. we saw my grandpas name on the original paper when he got on the ship.. very interesting
ok, molly, will setle down to a quiet mumble. LOL
ok, molly, will setle down to a quiet mumble. LOL
I so wish she had raised us bilingual. I have studied Italian off and on since college.
hi granny, how are you today?
ruru, GO TO BED!!!!!
I'm up granny too noisy around here
Yes, ivesy, the Ellis Island website is neat. I found the ship manifestos for my grandparents, greatgrandmother, great aunts and great uncles. My grandfather came here with 2 brothers and 3 sibs stayed in Sicily.
I never understood why my father never spoke Yiddish to us kids
I didnt speak English until I started school then my parents decided to speak only English to me so I understand Yiddish but cannot speak it well anymore
* poof* have to be up and active in 5 hours
It is such a gift for a child to grow up bilingual or even trilingual. Kids learn so quickly.
I had yiddish lessons in NYC
get a good rest, granny
go to bed yourself granny .. nite
ruru, do you speak Yiddish?
Bich, some immigrants thought it bad to speak anything but English. At least, so I've heard.
One of the kids in my grandspns Pre-K class is trilingual: Korean/German/English
just some words.. i love the language
My mother still understands Italian but stumbles when speaking.
True Molly
ruru, it is a colorful language. Lots of soul too.
my friends Bubby gave me a bunch of words.. and my friends some made up yiddish words..lol
I have known trilingual kids, and many bilingual. I am so envious when I see families like that in my practice.
Now I'm thinking of a whole new breed of music, Yiddish Soul. : )
I'm a Bubby to my grandchildren
I speak three languages
Yiddish Rap
and they are......ruru
*waiting for ruru to tell us his 3 languages*
French, Spanish, Greek
I like that..Yiddish Rap and Soul
And English

bum.p bump.. just look at that girl all unkempt.. i'd say something but I'm verklempt
I am reading a book about New York City in 1895, with much focus on immigrants. "The Murder of the Century." Historical fiction. The Bronx is described as farmland, with fruit orchards.
Brooklyn had farms too
mrs. ru was born in the bronx
Yes, the boroughs and Long Island are described as spacious green spaces with farms.
ru, why are you verklempt..just one look at her and you know she's a schlump
lol
Scrabbs, Is that the book about Typhoid Mary?
wants to continue yiddish lessons with Annie
Yiddish Soul Title: Pappa's Got A Brand New Zak : )
anytime, ru
lol
Nope. A true murder story based on documents, then fictionalized. I love it. By Paul Collins.
read a book called elizabeth street scrabbler.. its about italian immigrants coming to nyc. .. fiction based on truth
Im going to get the book, thanks scrabbs
That book is on my list, ivesy. I have 83 books on my wish list and it grows every week. I cannot read fast enough.
Annie, as a New Yorker I think you will really enjoy the book.
Definitely.
What's the title again Scrabs. I'm a New yorker at heart
I'd love to be in NYC right now
i have nine books on hold. just waiting for our director to release them.. so many books so little time !
when my friend comes up from florida, we are going to a bookstore on crosby street. They donate part of their profits to help people with AIDS.
your director?
Okay, for once, the news made me laugh. Some photographer went to the police and said Justin Bieber roughed him up. Ahahahahaha!
The Murder of the Century, then a long subtitle. It has several focuses (? foci) --a murder, immigrants, the NYPD, criminal forensics, and the development of rival newspapers--Joseph Pulitzer, W.R. Hearst, etc. Fascinating.
our boss at the library ruru..
oh.
yes.. I read that molly.. hysterical
that sounds interesting scrab
Justin Bieber is an example of delayed puberty. His voice finally changed at 17.
That's kind of like being mugged by Richard Simmons
LOL
ty Scrabs. I have requested it from the library
...or cage fighting with RuPaul
The new Geico commercial with Richard Simmons cracks me up. Even the friendly little gecko thinks he's weird.
Please tell me what you think about that book, Bichon and Annie.
I will, Scrabbs
My nephew works at Geico--great company.
Me too Scrabs

Hey TO, are you home? Did you have fun on your trip?
ob4 = death notice (abbr)
Hi BR.
ty Scrabs
forgot to tell all, we made over $11,000 at the autism walk ! $7000 will go to sensory playgrounds at the schools for the autistic kids!
yes i am home. not exactly fun but ate too much good food and saw interesting things
that's great Ivesy... I've been meaning to ask you how it went.
That's great Ivesy, good for you and your group.
That is great, ivesy.

dont know how my sis will top it next year lol
Well TO, good food and interesting things sounds like fun.
BR, is the en7 related to the en4?
en 4/7?
Oops, I found en4/4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn8hM64 0Y1w&feature=related great time alst night
I think en 4/7 is a mistake
sensory playground sounds interesting to me ..
Silly Ruru
:D
No en4/7, just en4/4
special made for autistic kids, not exactly sure what they have, but 2 schools will have one now
Which schools, ivesy?
one of my nephews is autistic
I am stuck now.
Some of the kids at the Indian Reservation attend preschool in Fredonia.

I have slowed down and am approaching halfway.

Nice clip TO, I love the xylophone. It sounds so magical.
they are doing great things ruru. my nephew is autistic. . guess the playgrounds have sand stations, water station, paint stations. supposed to calm them.
ah, yes, tiki music...the blue hawaii helped set the mood as well. gotta love a 22 piece orchestra
On this website (www.vitamindcouncil.org) go to Medical Conditions--->Neurologic---> Autism for a fascinating hypothesis on vitamin D deficiency (pre- and post-natal) as a cause for autism.
*Goes to take Vitamin D supplement*
that's really interesting scrabs
they are trying to prove diet is partly responsible. seeing that my nephews mother was a drug addict(sis is his adopted mother) and had mental problems makes us wonder. jayjay ws very premature. almost lost him a couple times in the first couple months
I take 5000 IU/day from Oct-April, then 2000 IU/day the remainder of the year.
just started taking vit d.. have a defincency(sp)
Interesting. Maybe I will up my dosage in those months.
and vit b.. i take that thru a nasal spray
Ivesy, everyone I know is popping up Vitamin D deficient on their blood tests. Even people who are out in the sun a lot.
I think I'm out in the sun just enough for my D
(I take 1000 IU of Vit D a day and my levels are high normal -- in MN winter, no less!
The vitamin D deficiency theory makes more sense than any other I have read about. Think about what happened 20-25 yrs ago--dermatologists told us to avoid the sun, sunscreen use increased, etc. So we have vit D deficient mothers, with vit D deficient fetuses, then vit D deficient kids. Read about Somali immigrants in Sweden. Their kids are getting the "Swedish disease" = autism.
Wow, Nef.
wow.. scrabs
makes sense
used to tan all the time . now just once in awhile. go back to tanning . ok vitd.. scare of skin cancer hmm
I need one more word to get to list
I know, Scrabs. It doesn't make much sence, considering I wasn't out in the sun much at all last year due to illness and "bee sting" allergies (actually wasps and 2 typse of hornets)
I need 5 to be halfway.
isn't the vitamin d in milk enough for kids?
My doctor says you need at least 15 minutes in the sun per day, face and arms exposed. Believe it or not, most people don't get that, which I find sad.
Nope, Owl.
Could I please have a clue for that left O? I've been loking for over an hour now without any success

Have a nice day : )
back again. DH is hurting (and currently asleep thanks to drugs), so we're missing celebrations and festivities today. I guess I'll be around off and on working on this fiendish grid today.
That's too bad, Nef.
it's what it is, Molly. MRI says pressure on his L4 & L5 nerve roots now; surgery in very near (possibly this week?) future. Same area as last 2 surgeries; new problem (he probably fell and doesn't remember it)
And I updated my profile and forgot to save! I'm not ti4/4'd at all; nope....
last in8?
in8,40 = i + opposite of yes + opposite of stand + first two letters of Spanish cheer.
in 8/40 word is in plus **car the grouch plus he,she ** plus **d Macdonald had a farm kje.
Ugh. That's a hard one to clue.
kje, in+ vowel +not stand + **d (age)
Gee. Everyone clues at once! Haha.
Hi to my fellow babblers! How is everyone doing today
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
LOL! All of us clued that same word in very different ways.
Well thanks and you, Min? Hope the allergies are better?
Yep Nef. :)
while everyone is in clueing mood how bout ti8?
ty nn
and nef
and min
sorry - had to step away for a sec
Thanks Neil, but not yet. Saturday night I was up 'til 4:30 couging and blowing nose. So I went to a doctor yesterday to get more drugs. Was up again last night until 5:00. Better not have same problem tonight as I have to go back to work tomorrow. My allergies suck!
mary, pl. the ship that sank in 1912 (with different ending)
ti8,40 = plural of ti7,28. Warrior [Clash of the *****s] plus 2 vowels. Then pluralize it.
Oh man, Min. That's rough. :(
How will you be able to work like that... and on so little sleep? :(
Lack of sleep is a killer, Min
Sounds like you should seriously consider moving. To somewhere where you're not affected like that.
Sure is Nef.
Should have stayed up babbling. Would be done if I did
ty neil
yw Mary.
min.. have you tried a netty pot?.... i have heard that a saline rinse is also good
Neti pot. I know someone who uses one... wondered about trying it myself.
No. I am hoping the drugs doctor gave me will kick in soon sammysmom. I go through this every single year
FW!
Sounds like you need to move, Min.
Does anybody have a clue for the fo 7/40 word please
great suggestion, sammysmom. I can't stand water up my nose, so I use the saline nose sprays and it helps a lot (I use them *a lot* too!
WTG kje.
Congratulations kje on your fireworks! Good for you!
fo7/40 is a type of cheese
italian cheese
like nef said
YAY kje!!! WTG!!!
That is a good idea, but it kills me to think I would let allergies make me move outo of my house that I love.
fo7,40 = fo + consonant + Ms. Turner.
Well you can make your home anywhere Min. But is it worth staying in an area that's making you so sick for a while every year? I don't know.
min - are you using nasal steroids? you should be starting several weeks before allergy season starts each year then maintaining through the season... something like flonase
Min, the saline nasal spray bottles cost about $3.00 and aren't addicting either. The idea behind the neti pot and saline spray is that it clears the pollens out of your nasal passages and reduces the body's histamine reaction
I guess you're on antihistamines, Min?
flonase is very helpful; DH uses it when he's having problems too
The doctor gave me an antibiotic, cough suppressant and Nasonex. Other people tell me to try local honey.
takes 1-2 weeks to hit max effect, but works well to cut down to use of other meds. But must be used properly, it doesn't work immediately and must be taken consistently to prevent mast cell build up
Next year I am going to try taking local honey earlier
and next year, start the nasonex several weeks before allergy season starts
(I have tried te local honey thing... doesn't work)
though I love honey so eat it anyway
I don't like the nasal sprays because when I take it,it tickles my nose and makes me sneeze. Then I sneeze out what I just sprayed. Kind of defeats the purpose.
but with time, you will get use to it, and it will shut down the allergen-immune pathway... stick with it min... hope you feel better soon
that's me too, min! hi!
I thought it wouldn't work either, but never know 'til you try. Thanks for letting me it doesn't work.I won't waste my time doing it. Guess I'll start sprays earlier.
must run, going swimming with my nephews
Hello JenMO16! How are you doing? Welcome to chog.

<---cluing savant

Hey, it seems to be the new thing to just blurt out words. Why should I care if no one else does?
I was wondering why you clued it that way, ru
very good clue, I thought.
I thought I would take the expedient route... it's a weirdo word that almost none of us ever remember except FM (bless her) when she was here
the last fa5 please
it's a plural cos
fa + pi**** have black and white keys
there are more than 1 fa5? THen I need to keep looking
thanks duh
sorry just 1 fa5
Someone must remember it. It's clued as a Babblet all the time. That drives me crazy, when someone clues "it's a Babblet". Like we all have photographic memories.
No, there is only one fa5
i never remember it.. I just call it the ta babblet
i never remember that one
you don't have a photographic memory ..? Molly?
I'm off to go to a BBQ. Happy Memorial Day to all! Bye
bye minver.. have fun
thanks for telling me that there is only 1 fa5. And yes, I always clue something as being a babblet. I've started a list (but lost it when my computer was "upgraded" to a dead end model at Christmas....

Ok, How about hedgehoglike mammal from Madagascar
joanie!
which one is that?
At least you can Google that if you don't know it
the ta6 babblet
oh...
I didn't know that

No Ru, no photographic memory. One of the reasons I'm in the lower caste here.
I like to check out the definitions after seeing a word appear so often

well done uncover!
lol, except for the 88 babblets of course
;-) ah, those babblets. they hide in the most inconvenient places!
it's like sand after a trip to the beach. they grit on you forever!
exactly!
88 babblets?
well, that is kind of an approximation, could be slightly less, I suppose
hey red! how's the weather out your way?
gray and wet, very nice change, since its been so hot.
how are you all?
we are well -- getting a bit done, just taking a short break before working on food again. Trying to make a whole lot so maybe we have yummy leftovers for the week.
all well if you dont count a cold and a sore throat
Oh sorry uncover. Wash hands...
And yum on left overs. I spent hours today doing case studies Stid....hard to tell how long it will take the students to go through them.
LOL red! we just can't help ourselves can we? I was thinking "drink lots of juice and water"
Are you teaching directly, red? I am still not clear what your new job is!
I think that advice is better. I really am nuts about the hand washing. Sorry Uncover, it spills over!
is ok, I endorse the concept of prevention
My big job this year is to raise the flu vaccination rate. So far, its a not very fun uphill battle.
as a teacher, I am constantly asking the children to wash their hands -- at least three times a day the whole class hears "wash your hands" or sees me standing by with hand sanitizer. The truth is, I have sanitizer in the car and squirt it liberally every time I get in after teaching.
If you use hand sanitizer you should read up on tricolsan.
Oh, that explains your comment on my fb share today. I have a love-hate relationship with vaccinations. I had my kids vaccinated on schedule for everything, except the elder kid I didn't get his second measles because the first one made him so very ill -- measly, but a mild case. So he needed a booster before he went to Australia. Other than that, I really try to keep my kids up to date (and myself) because I know that in my grandmothers' and mother's days so many children were permanently disabled or died as a result of what are now preventable infections. I have smallpox scars where my vaccinations were, and I worry that my children and Tom are in danger if someone introduces a similar pox-like virus. I would be fine...
I do infection prevention Stid, It involves a lot of teaching, though...not exactly all teaching. I also get the joy of enforcing and making policy and wel..
The hand sanitizer I use is alcohol-based.
I was almost vax for smallpox, but they decided against it in the end, that and the TB vaccine, which I am glad I did not get...
I was very ill with chickenpox as a child, so my kids got the vaccination although I debated it a lot -- what if it wears off or what if it causes shingles later? but I decided that they can always get a booster, and getting chickenpox by itself can cause shingles.
red, how much of infection prevention is just reiterating the common-sense ideas of washing hands, not sharing drinks/food/needles, and staying home when ill?
hello all
I had to get the chicken pox vaccine and I had the chicken pox.
hey TO!
love that icon, btw TO
Most of my job involves surveillance for infection, looking for clusters. and stuff like that
hello... anyone want Viajes Fake Made-Up Not-in-the-Grid Word of the Day?
oh! past halfway!
I would LOVE to see your word, viajes
Some of it is the common sense stuff, and then we also use surveillance to assess which antibiotics are being used, and if they are being used correctly.
Red, what do you think about the AMA recommending that that households do not use anti bacterial products as it contributes to the spread of antibiotic resistant bacterias.
hey stid.
ah, so you do a lot of CDC communications, I suppose? I have been looking periodically at our state's flu and pertussis pages, just to make sure I know what I am likely dealing with in various classrooms
if someone has not had chicken pox, would getting the vaccine put them at risk for shingles?
I think that it is appropriate, as there is almost no need for antibac in the home. I don't know that it has a huge effect though on antibiptic resistance.
it is ro5: electronic being in the form of an upside-down-sleeping cavedweller
(not in the grid, just a made up word)
LOL funny, viajes!
I do a ton of work with the CDC, reporting, and interaction. I had to actually get governmental clearance, which sort of freaked me out. I am a nurse you know, not a government person!
Yes and No TO. let me get you a link to the vaccine info sheet.
that was my question at the time, TO -- whether it would, but I think that it doesn't put them at greater risk at least
I don't trust anti-bac soap...
i remember hexochlorophene
LOL Bond. Red Bond. Licensed to Vaccinate. coming soon to a theater near you: Golden-Needle
ah, there is the timer. Must go shred pork. back later! *poof*
Robat (Persian: رباط‎, also Romanized as RobÄÅ£; also known as RobÄÅ£-e MÄhÄ«dasht, RobÄÅ£-e MÄhÄ« Dasht, RobaÅ£ ‘OlyÄ, and MÄhÄ«dasht)[1] is a city in and the capital of Mahidasht District, in Kermanshah County, Kermanshah Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 996, in 248 families.[2]
:p
I use the CHG all the time at work, it has a nice 6-8 hour bacteria killing persistence, but I would not feel it necessary at home.
:)
Hi Jeff.
hey all
TO, you can get shingles from the vaccine, but it is then usually a very mild case. If you as an adult get chicken pox it can be very serious.
ok i will ask at my yearly physical
you never had Chicken Pox? THey could just draw a titer to check if you are immune.
I was young before all the vaccinations for stuff. Mom used to take us to visit folks who had measles, and mumps and chickenpox so we would get them out of the way when we were young
That Robat is a proper noun though, Jeff... :)
I think people are over doing it with anti bacterial products. I can see using them in a hospital setting, but not anywhere else.
red, i think i would know. i waspanicked when my niece got them
my measles and mumps wer very mild cases. i never had rubella either.
unless you can get it without the rash
You can get it without a rash. Oddly, one thing I have discovered is that many Health care workers were found to have made antibodies to last years flu, but only about 1/4 of them recalled having a flu-like illness, so they were all out there spreading it...
TO I love your icon.
well i will ask him to add it to the bllodwork order then ty
I should not say it, but I really disliked getting that vaccine, I am sure it gave me all sorts of upleasant side effects, like dizziness, etc...but I had to have it for work.
dinner time, happy babbling all. red i have had them all - dpt, tetanus, rubella, smallpox, and the tb test. if there are ad effects i am a goner. also used hexochlorophene
oops as well as both types of poilio, salk and sabin
:) TO is fully vaccinateeedddd.
had a falso pos on the tb, what a scare
no kidding there.
hello temple and redt!
we had someone at work with it and there was panic. we were tested in grammar school, no known reason

Damn, JMC is all about her masculine and feminine sides today. I learned about strawberry picking years ago. It's hell on your back.
i had a good time. . . the trick is not to pick too many
Awful hot out there for strawberry picking today. I know, I know, I am wasting my breath on a Texan.
jmc...did you see my previous post to you? On auther K Ross Toole?
actually there was a nice breeze . . . up in your parts at the butler orchards
yes jilly ty . . . i did say i would put it in my notes. . .
If I'm not mistaken, JMC said she was going to put that in her notes.
hi again. Reading back, what MT authors are you telling her about Jilly and why?
Butler's is up on a ridge. It's usually breezy up there.
sorry jmc, hard to chat and find words...

my mother's clan was named fraiser because they brought strawberries to robert the bruce
hi ru
hi jm
Once you eat fresh strawberries, the ones in the grocery store are tasteless.
damn i would be good at this game if i could only see words that start with vowels
funny tata is not a word but the vowel right next to them on the grid do make a word
hi ruru
you need bodacious in front of it uncover.. that's why
hi jilly
jmc, my DH read a book about why corporations were first considered an individual. It was some law clerk somewhere that wrote a notation in the margins of some law (I think) Maybe I should go ask him....
haha
oh that would be great nef. . . happy to gather information without effort!
I swear, "Officer & A Gentleman" made bodacious ta-tas a household word.
goodness i heard that term long before that movie!
I heard it long before richard gere was an actor
Oh, pardon me, Reverend.
And other ancient one.
LOL
well you were just sheltered molls. . .

Wow, our Jilly is amazing.
cool jilly. . . what are the papers about?
I take my clothes out of the dryer and hang them before it's necessary to do that chore.
exactly nef!
wow, Jilly. I am impressed too. I thought maybe you were doing something nursey and I could help from a distance; but I guess not...

Well, I can't abide wrinkles and a lot of our clothes hang dry, so the ir4 and I still have an intimate relationship.
when i married hubby i told him he was on his own with the ir** so he ir**ed during football games. . .except the skins. . .but that was back when the skins were worth watching
I have scars from trying to ir4 during Redskins games.

I agree JMC. My friend who hunts odd varmints is so jazzed about the show.
does your friend kill possums? they are supposed to be the main ingredient in brunswick stew but i have never had it made that way
Oh, he probably has JMC. I've more or less lost track of all the weird stuff he has killed and eaten.
