girlie, i was told years ago that the pain i had in my ankle was arthritis/sprain. 14 months down the track, surgeon founded that i had fractured a bone into 3 pieces, and ripped the tendon off the bone. ....so...PLEASE...if your pain is no better or worse in 2 weeks time, insist on a bone scan.

(Bad storms overnight here; tress down and power out in parts of the metro area -not our area though- and another day of flood watches and warnings here
that's no good. the worst rain we are likely to get today would be solid but light moisture for a few hours, enough to require windshield wipers but only enough to soak down about an inch from the surface in tilled soil.
the strawberries are ripe, though, so I might just wander out toward the farm and get a flat or two... would rather can when it's cool and drizzly than in the hot weather!

good news is I insisted on an MRI as well as the X-ray, and no sign of osteonecrosis (which ate both my knees)

got a 200 dollar pair of hiking runners(i learned the hard way) stride is all messed cause of limp from old leg break so will have to live with it

i was buying 2 pair of cheap runners per year cause the foot milage of my job wore them out but this 200 dollar pair are in the 3 year so it pays to buy proper shoes

my hip has been bothersome, but not as bad as a few years ago -- I know there is no bone damage, so live with it best I can. But it still keeps me from gardening and walking and such many days. I have to watch my gait so I don't start damaging other things.

they are indeed stidmama,there are several nice ones in the 60 dollar range
so when I had to use a cane they told me to use it on the opposite side from the bad leg - do you use the walking sticks on the same side (that is, arm and leg on same side go forward), or on opposite sides?
I use one of I have a tender spot (just around the house) to prevent me from limping of favoring one side; but 2 if I'm going for a walk or somewhere I'd be walking a lot.
... oh well ... must go ... barkeep! a nice walking trail for everyone and a tube of linament at the end! ... ... later

LOL! I've stopped people on the street or in elevators and told them they were walking wrong! It embarrassed my kids when I did that! Some people thank me but some are rude and upset with me. (They no longer teach people how to use crutches these days, I've found)
we had enough snow... but my skiis were in the storage locker 12 miles away!!!! *sigh* and I am not sure my boots would fit now, got them 23 years ago, B.K. when I had size 5 feet and really really high arches (now I have size 6 feet and merely really high arches...)

people think I am weird that I removed the padding on the upper part of the crutches and adjusted the height so the hand rest is high and the upper part doesn't reach my armpits... but I never had my hands go numb, and wasn't tempted to lean on the crutches. Other people couldn't believe how fast I moved!

oh, walkers! *sigh* they gave one to my older grandmother when she started having dizzy spells, but didn't monitor how she used it and she would push it way way out in front of her... so I would bring it closer to her and tell her to stand up. And then she got where she was just forgetting to move her feet at all and someone had to be with her all the time. It was a difficult time.
oh, I'm not talking patients. Mine were either ICU types or (for the past 3-4 years) pregnant. I mean just someone on the street or in an elevator who's doing it wrong. I try to stop them and teach them the proper use right there!

but Nana had so little upper body strength to begin with, the walker was really not a great idea. I think a cane with the wide base would have been better for her because she would have had to lift it up to move it, and that might have helped her keep her balance longer.
back in the "olden days" we were taught to use crutches using the 2, 3, or 4 point walking style. I told that to one of DH's PTguys recently and he gave me a blank look....

the 4 point canes can be a PIA at times, stid. the one side sticks out farther than the other and DH uses a cane on either side. So he can trip on that broad base too. If the cane-walker uses the cane on 1 side only, then it works ok
