we are at our full solstice now ruby,start seeing first light just after 5 am and have lisght till almost 9:30 pm

Hey Nef, I saw that you're gonna cruise the Mississippi checking out BBQ. If you happen to make it to the coast, take the time (if you can fit it in) to visit the Shed (http://theshedbbq.com/) in Gautier MS. It's about 80 miles east of New Orleans... Definitely an experience!

Big news in our family is that our DIL went into the hospital for psych reasons volunarily this afterneeon! We'll have our grandson for "several days" (what-ever that means); but this is a big decision on her part. I hope and pray that they help her.

I was in Al-Anon when my son was on drugs (there wasn't a Narc-Anon that I could find back then). And when we had my alcoholic brother here in 2007 while he was doing his "90 meetings in 90 days" thing; I went to Al-Anon and continued it for 2 years after that because of the help and support I got there (my family and DH's family both have lots of alcoholics)

badly, lady. he's still lame, and his hoof grew back weirdly, so x-rayed his foot and he's foundered badly at some point in the past. he'll be lame permanently.

The consequences of me leaving would put my husband on the street and homeless with no medical insurance. I can't do that to him. I have to wait until he get a better job. My husband would go into the deepest depression.

brown rice usually holds up better than white rice
because the hull is mostly intact it stays together and doesn't mush

phand, in a week the shrubs will look like a giant kinetic sculpture. They will be covered in waxwings! The first time it happened I was pretty worried, then I realized what was going on and enjoyed watching. They are like little kids let loose in a room like a Willy Wonka factory!

He was being kept in a horse stall by the owners of the stable where Grant took lessons. They were about to take him to the pound because the person they thought was going to buy him backed out. I couldn't let a lovely boy like him go to the pound. He was 1 year, 8 months old, and weighed only a little more than 50 pounds. He was very skinny and very traumatized.
I never wanted a shepherd, but he is about the most beautiful boy in the world (imho)

maybe you can help me, phand. Lucky is VERY skittish with his paws, and so I don't trim his nails as often as they really need it (the first few years the vet had to sedate him to trim them). Do you have any advice for how to get him to hold still?

Yes, Lucky will sit at the window and wait for the school busses. Now the boys don't come home on the bus, but he still always hopes. Grant usually stays longer in town to do taekwondo. So whenever I can I let Lucky come with me to fetch his boy

Jazz also doesn't like her nails clipped. I try to get her when she is relaxed and I have lots of treats with me.
Every nail I clip, I give her lots of treats. Seems to help. I actually need to do her nails again.
Awww Phan cute. Stid. You pick up his paw in a non threatening manner - feed him a treat, do this for a while then get the scissors in hand then do the same thing, then do one nail and feed and leave him
I will try that, then. I never had trouble with our lab when she needed trimming, and Buffy I just turned upside down on my lap to trim.
I got most of his front toes the other day, but need to do the back now.

yes, lady -- I am certain that is part of it. He was severely traumatized as a young dog. It took YEARS for him to be comfortable around Tom and our friends who are men.
I never understand people that hurt animals
neglect and abuse of animals and children really makes my blood boil... and I cannot take them all in. I wish I could, but. I am stuck doing what little I can in the moment when I am with them.
