I"ve never really been to vegas

Annie, you have power I hope

7:46 am

Molly I am glad your power is restored. I read that Seain has his power back on also

7:46 am

Yes, this co-op has its own power plant, not dependent on Con Edison but we lose power at the strangest times. Thank God this is not one of those times.

sh7,48 -- plural of the sh6,33 just before that. Archaic spelling of one who displays or exhibits something.

excuse me

I'll think about it. ;)

North East?

For a moment I thought you were going to spell out my name, one letter at a time.

homophone for people who put u-shaped thing on horses' feet?

lol

8:46 am

neil can you simplify what you just said in a way that I'll understand preferrably english

That could work too.

no, it was just a hiccup.

Uhhh, I really can't think of any simpler way to say that, jezman?

Look at my clue instead

Yes. Kaplan's clue is much better of course.

Pronouncing a certain brand of Scotch when you are already drunk and rlurring words

And I was speaking English... what other language did you think that was, jezman? Weird.

slurring

That was a ty4.

well, the actual word for what kaplan said is a farrier, so I was looking for something that sounds like that. ;-)

but eventually I got it, thanks!

מעכשיו אולי אני צריך לכתוב עברית

ok, then someone who puts leather things on people's feet

I can't Neil, I don't have Hebrew characters

On my keyboard., i mean

I see, Kaplan.

Yeah.

In my life I know a few Hebrew characters.

8:50 am

am I weird? i got it from Neil's original clue.

But that was for jezman, who didn't seem to think my clue was in English.

8:50 am

Kap you ARE a Hebrew character. lol

8:50 am

ha ha ha

8:51 am

you aint funny

Well hego, I thought my clue was pretty straightforward and not difficult to understand.

I might have to show up at the office at some point. Why didn't I just take the week off?

Who ain't funny?

Well jezman... that's an opinion many of my readers would disagree with.

8:51 am

if you're into archaic spelling.

8:51 am

take the week off Kap.

8:51 am

any way you said in hebrew that you need to spell hebrew

Yeah, but an archaic spelling usually still sounds the same as the modern one.

8:52 am

substitute spell with love that was my mistake

No I didn't, jezman.

8:52 am

yay for jez!

I said now maybe I should write in Hebrew.

just went and read Neil's clue, I may have gotten it. Was it Lawrence Welk who always used the archaic version? We have a really big sh4 for you tonight.

8:52 am

I

8:52 am

I

Since you didn't think I was writing in English.

8:52 am

I'm rusty on hebrew sorry

I am lost here. Maybe I should go put the clothes in the dryer.

That was Ed Sullivan.

I should definitely do something... preferably to help me wake up some more, at 6:53 am.

8:53 am

leave them there, they'll get dry.

Really big sh4.

ah, I kept thinking Ed somebody and could not rem. his last name, then the other name popped in my head.

COFFEE... that might work.

No. they'll get moldy.

8:54 am

sullivan

"ED SULL_I_VAN...we're gonna be on...

8:57 am

8:59 am

8:59 am

8:59 am

8:59 am

It's just a virtual punishment, don't worry.

8:59 am

Hi Glant

8:59 am

hi hego - how you doing?

9:00 am

just come for the last 50

9:00 am

good, Glant. how's summer in Wales?

9:00 am

but they don't look any easier now than they did 4 hours ago LOL

9:00 am

summer isn't in Wales

9:00 am

: )

9:01 am

but today is dry - cold and cloudy, but dry - we've had 2 inches of rain since Sunday here

9:01 am

double : ))

9:01 am

don't feel bad, it's been 90F here.

9:02 am

i dream of 90F - although I know i'd hate it if it was that hot LOL

9:02 am

75F is pleasant to think about though

9:02 am

for days!

9:02 am

75 would be lovely

It was 104F a couple of days last weekend. You do not want that, believe me.

9:03 am

Hi Carla - and you're right, I don't - it nev er gets that hot in the UK

9:04 am

are you in one of the southern states?

yes, North Carolina

I know someone in Scotland right now, and apparently it has been sunny two days (out of like 3 weeks?) since he's been there.

9:05 am

ah, yes Scotland

9:06 am

that's about right - we've had one sunny day in the last 2 weeks - last Saturday

9:06 am

Scotland, land of the midge

but he is actually Scottish, so I think he is accustomed to that.

9:06 am

this is a particularly cold and wet summer

haha, I just learned about the midge. sounds like a lot of fun. ;-)

9:07 am

hot for us

We had a lot of rain early on, but not so much lately.

9:07 am

that's because the jetstream which should be over Iceland is over the UK

9:07 am

so all the jetstreams must be in the wrong places

interesting

think I'm going to have to hit the list. I've about reached my limit with 101 words.

9:10 am

I've just listed

9:10 am

must go bbl. hagd All

9:10 am

Hi Glantarell. :)

9:14 am

Hi Neil

9:15 am

Hello kids. I was here several hrs ago and was alone with the lurkers.

Sorry you're having such bad weather over there. I'd send you some sunshine if I could.

Hi Scrabbler.

9:15 am

how many letters in the a? (hi)

ap5,12

9:16 am

thanks neil

yw harpjane.

9:20 am

sunshine would be welcom

I bet it would.

9:24 am

there appears to be a shortage of nonwords today

9:24 am

i have tried several and thye don;t work

9:24 am

i may get withdrawal symptoms

9:29 am

Good morning!

9:29 am

Hi Eeyore

9:29 am

Hello Glantarell!

Haha, Glantarell.

9:30 am

Hello negativeneil!

Hi car.eeyore

It looked too strange to put a period at the end of that for some reason... so I didn't.

And just "Neil" is fine btw.

9:31 am

You got it!

Interesting kitchen you have, car.

9:35 am

The house is an old barn.

9:36 am

how many letters in the n?

9:37 am

4

Oh wow... that explains the big wooden beams in the ceiling then. Very nice. :)

9:37 am

Hi harpjane! I haven't made it over to the N yet, but I can help you look.

9:37 am

ne 4

9:37 am

Our bedroom when we were kids was above that kitchen...the old hay loft. No heat and no air though! UGH!

No heat? What part of the country are you in?

9:39 am

New England.

9:39 am

We had a space heater and a LOT of blankets!

Ugh. Must've been freezing up there in winter?

Oh I see... was that enough though?

9:39 am

Most of the time.

What about when it wasn't?

9:39 am

thanks car

9:40 am

we used to have amazing ice patterns on the inside of the bedroom windows when I was a child in the 60s - and that was in a new house LOL

Wow, Glantarell... brrr!

9:40 am

I am still here...no worse for wear, so I think it we did OK!

Yep. Seems like it!

9:41 am

i'm not sure when cebtral heating really came in because my family's houses didn;t have it - probably in the 1970s though

Oh wow.

9:41 am

LOL! I read that as "cerebral heating"!

9:41 am

we have water filled radiators, joined by pipes into one system heated by a boiler (furnace?)

Haha! You just think about it... and it gets warmer?

9:42 am

I visited friends in Washington state a couple of years ago and their heat was warm air blown through grilles

That would be alright... no heating bills!

9:42 am

oops - central heating

That's "forced air" heating, Glant.

9:42 am

underfloor heating is getting very popular here

Which is gas, usually.

I thought you mostly had radiator heating there?

9:43 am

what's the usual system in the US?

Forced air? Yes.

9:43 am

our central heating is gas powered but not everybody has gas

9:43 am

We have electric forced air.

we have gas

9:43 am

they have electric storage heaters which are not very flexible

There are still some rads about... in older homes and apartments. I've seen them in NYC.

9:44 am

hi hokie!

9:44 am

they use electricity all night to heat up large concrete blocks which throw heat out all day

And some people have oil heating, some have electric... the latter is a pretty expensive way to go.

9:44 am

oil heating is expensive here

9:44 am

electric is too

Yep.

9:45 am

gotta rush to the post box before the mail#s collected - back soon

9:45 am

Bye glantarell! Have a great day!

9:50 am

Uh oh. Glantarell has to go the PB when she gets back.

9:50 am

po4 is ea4, I want more 6's and the 7.

9:51 am

Hello Scrabs!

9:51 am

I don't have the 7 yet either. But I do have more than half the 6's.

9:51 am

Hi. I have been in and out this morning, depending on whether a kid shows up here for an appt.

9:51 am

I need 7 of the 6's

9:52 am

I was sick last night Scrabs...my son and I both have summer colds. May we have an appointment?

9:52 am

I had a fever and everything. :(

9:53 am

I cannot fix that but your immune system will easily handle it. You'll have 5-7 yucky days then slowly get better over the following week.

9:53 am

But should I still go for my run today?

9:53 am

Fever = good! Fever is how our immune system kills off the bad guys. No harm at all.

9:54 am

Zack is really having a tough time of it. We can't break through his congestion with anything. Any suggestions?

9:54 am

If you want to run go ahead and try to, but you are likely to poop out before your goal.

9:54 am

My goal at this point is to just keep moving. I will see how I feel later in the day. I am coughing up some significant gunk.

9:55 am

Nasal saline spary, and nasal decongestant spray (for 3-5 days only.) I never ever take oral cold/cough meds--useless.

9:55 am

Do you have a lot of no shows this morning?

9:55 am

Oooh! Good to know. Thank you!

9:56 am

3 so far--day after holiday, and I am at the Indian Reservation while a partner is on vacation. BBS--kid here.

9:56 am

howdy everyone:) back for my last 80 words:) and it is now time for crossy,s tidbit of the day!!

9:57 am

Hi Crossy!

9:57 am

People didn't always say "hello" when they answered the phone. When the first regular phone service was established in 1878, people said "ahoy."

9:57 am

howdy car

9:57 am

Hmmm..I wonder why....

9:59 am

back again

9:59 am

Welcome back!

9:59 am

perhaps ahoy because ships had speaking tubes before phones were invented?

10:00 am

i lived in a cottage community for a bit and there were no phone lines,so each cottage had a cb radio or a ham radio to talk back and forth and to contact emergency personel at need.after a year or two of that i was saying "over" and "clear" for a while when i was back on regular phone service;0

10:00 am

We were talking about CB language yesterday...truckers in particular...does anyone remember the word used for babies or children?

10:00 am

sounds quite plausable glant

10:01 am

it does.

10:01 am

10:01 am

But you know everything, Crossy!!!!!!

Hey crossy.

10:02 am

Oh, ok.

10:03 am

10:05 am

10:38 am

hehe

10:39 am

any ts words today?

Yes crossy... lots of them.

Hey ruru! :)

You didn't download the AI clip yet?

10:40 am

I've had my grandson here for the past 10 days; it's so nice to be able to relax, sit here in my pj's til now (10:30A) and play Babble for a change... :-)

10:41 am

you behave neazle

Oh geez. :P You had to scroll?!

[assuming you saw his comment?]

10:42 am

cannot wait for grandkids.the best of both worlds.you can enjoy them, have them over, bake for them, then ship em back to mom and dad:)

You didn't download the Kiev file either ru?

10:43 am

make sure ru knows about we transfer as it is so much faster

10:44 am

very true, crossy. But it's hard learning that I don't have the energy or agility I used to have

I've sent him 3 files over that already crossy.

But he's only downloaded one so far.

I think?

Trying to find out. Earth to ru? Come in, ruru?

Hi Nef.

10:45 am

and you discvoer a whole now meaning to "silence is golden" once the grandkids go home:)

10:46 am

that's what I'm enjoying today; peace and quiet!

Haha I bet, crossy.

10:46 am

going over to see my great niece this sat 6 months old already

10:46 am

hi neil. How are you doing these days? (cute girl, BTW)

I'm well thanks Nef... and thank you. :) I certainly think so. ;) How are you?

hey! she is cute neil! boy.you are lucky she came down a few notches for you:P

10:48 am

best be on your good behaviour lol

10:48 am

hanging in there, neil. I learned an new word last week that describes me to a T. NPR was talking about the "sandwich generation" and I've learned I'm "resilient" It's totally true! :-)

10:49 am

apropos fireworks on the 5th of July a day late and a dollar short!

Yeah I know crossy. VERY lucky!

"Resilient" was a new word Nef?

Haha, stevedallas!

10:50 am

steve; some idiots were firing off fireworks (loud ones!) til just after midnight the last 2 nights. I hope they've used them up now.

I'm sure you are reilient Nef... you'd have to be, reading your bio. Wow.

And yeah... they do that around here too. Very annoying.

10:52 am

to describe a person, neil. Never thought of it as a way to describe someone before. I've used "survivor" or severl other terms, but not that

10:52 am

we are still cleaning up after all our city visitors

Oh I see, Nef.

10:53 am

have you ever used it that way neil?

"resilient" even... geez I can't type.

10:53 am

back

Of course, Nef... that's a common use of the word.

10:53 am

hi neil

Welcome back ru. I asked you a question.

10:54 am

(and I haven't updated my profile in a while; the past month has been pretty ugly

I saw you hadn't downloaded the Kiev clip yet? Just the GNT one so far I guess?

And not the AI either... I sent you all 3.

But you probably have those emails?

10:55 am

able to bend under the wind storms of life, supple, yet resiliant, bending without breaking

Oh no, Nef. Sorry to hear that. :(

10:55 am

and i know i spelt it wrong molly

10:55 am

:)

10:56 am

yes.. I will have to do them this afternoon.. I have some work stuff this morning I need to get ready for soon.

And thanks again crossy for giving me that site. Making good use of it now. :)

10:56 am

why does work always have to get in the way of fun?

Oh good, ok ru. They'll take a while to download of course.

10:56 am

np neil

So you can just leave them to do that while doing other things... either online or off.

10:57 am

i got your entire kiev vid in under 4 minutes:))

That's incredible crossy. You must have a lightning fast connection speed?

10:58 am

:-) It's all okay.. I do have a hint for anyone coming off high-dose steroids though: get an extended keyboard and take ALL the keys off to clean it! Guaranteed to eat up at least 2 days of your time thatway (DH did that)

10:58 am

just a 5 meg connection standard stuff

You know crossy? I always picture you as that wolf avatar you use in here.

10:58 am

aroooooo

Huh Nef? Why?

10:59 am

make-work to stay occupied??

Must be.

11:00 am

if i want to keep busy i have mount clean laundry staring at me

There's enough work to do around here without doing that, geez. I just have to get motivated to start tackling some of it in a bit. Ugh.

11:01 am

sorry, neil. a fast bump and taper of high dose steroids will drive that person and everyone else around them crazy. The person has unlimited energy, a case of major bitchiness, insomnia, etc.

11:01 am

nef,you can come over and do my laundry if your bouncy:)

11:01 am

*wonders if my MIL is on steroids*

11:02 am

shes has some of the symptoms

11:02 am

DH is having severe back pain issues, then had an MS flare on top of that. He wasn't supposed to be doing stuff; he's the one who decided to clean his keyboard; I was so grateful that he was off my back for a few days.

11:03 am

ruru, she must be just "special"

11:03 am

lol,my mrs would just make me paint the bedrooms

11:04 am

or refinish some furniture

11:04 am

yeah.. she's SPECIAL alright

11:05 am

see, crossy, I'm the one whowants to do those things; I'd do them myself and not sluff those jobs off on others

11:05 am

or if my back was bad,sit there and wash stuff

11:05 am

okay.. I have to get to work.. have fun guys..

11:05 am

lol,always plenty to go round

11:05 am

tc ru

11:06 am

bye ruru

11:07 am

omg! first word in ten minutes;(

11:08 am

yeah, I'm back in the grid again too.

11:10 am

just found a nice ph5= the terrible twos are a ph5 that kids go through

11:10 am

thanks,crossy

11:12 am

okay, I've entered "posey" about 6 times and it won't take it. Isn't that how you spell flower?

11:12 am

drop the e

11:12 am

flip the 3rd and fourth letters

11:12 am

thanks, peri. It was driving me nuts!

11:12 am

ty wv

11:13 am

wv, I had that one already, but thanks anyway.

11:13 am

if edgar allun the author liked this flower nef he would spell it po 5/16

11:14 am

:-)

11:16 am

mmm,tough little grid:(

11:17 am

seems like all the babblets are here

11:18 am

I like the compas directions myself, crossy

11:18 am

11:32 am

i cannot believe i did not see that one wh5 = a grain used in making flour

Oh I see, Nef... returned just now and caught up with what you said.

11:38 am

np, neil. Sometimes I don't make sense

Oh sometimes I probably don't either, Nef.

11:41 am

am told that quite often about myself;)

11:42 am

(did you notice that I only said "sometimes?" I *probably* am stretching the truth there

11:44 am

Back again. 56 left.

11:44 am

wb scrabby

11:44 am

hi Scrabs.

11:46 am

hello all. scrabbs, i am hoping to drive up next week to get my hornbeck

11:47 am

Did you call to order it and to discuss racks?

11:47 am

hey all

11:47 am

hornbeck???

11:47 am

brew, plant, or musical instrument?

11:47 am

and hello -- how is the grid?

11:47 am

hi stid. Boat, canoe, kjayak

11:48 am

haven't heard back from them.. it's on my list of things to do that i am whittling away at. will do now

11:48 am

kayak company, that is

11:48 am

NEF! (((hugs))) how are you? how is your adorable grandkid?

11:48 am

nice grid

11:48 am

hey scrabby.want to adopt a canadian bunny?? http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/231 60705

11:48 am

*tries to picture elegant Doren whittling* *fails*

11:48 am

I'll start then.

11:48 am

he is at the shelter now and ready to go

11:48 am

kayak like canoe - ultra lite

11:49 am

elegant?? have you spoken to any of the babblers I have met, stid? not elegant

11:49 am

he's home for a few days, stid. I have a break and am enjoying it by being lazy right now

11:50 am

although I'd like to think that I am. just being realistic. scrabbs they still aren't answering their phone.

11:50 am

and hi nef. hope you're doing well

11:50 am

LOL doren

11:50 am

Ah, lazy = good!

11:51 am

Haha, Crossy. I already have one that looks like Mortimer, and her name is Miss Beatrix Potter, "Miss B" for short.

11:51 am

Glad he can be at home for a little bit. I bet his daddy has missed him!

11:51 am

lazy? nef? sorry, can't picture that ... i would call myself elegant before I thought you could be lazy

11:51 am

missing 1 W - have we x 3 and wh x 9 - what do i still need

11:52 am

well, Nef has earned some lazy time!

11:52 am

yep, but his Daddy is in crunch time; so he may end up calling or even taking Ronnie to work (I don't know, didn't ask)

11:52 am

funny teach, that is exactly what i have... (although we might have different wh"s. or we"S for that matter

11:52 am

oh she certainly has nef, but I just can't see her being lazy

11:53 am

LOL! You guys crack me up! I like being lazy! I do it whenever possible! :-)

11:53 am

ok nef. i stand corrected.

11:55 am

*proud member of lazy-r-us*

11:55 am

And I do think of you as being elegant and lady-like too, Dorens; first impressions stick with me here

11:56 am

:-) see! I wasn't mistaken! *grin* Doren = elegant...

11:57 am

nah i don't see stid as lazy either. you guys don't know lazy. I put all my effort into the computer (and some into cooking) and the house and garden are a shambles around me. (curious to know what gives the elegant or lady-like impression. not that I don't like it, mind you)

11:57 am

well piffle. My laundry is ready to go ON THE LINE!!! It is finally warm and sunny enough to dry clothes outside. Did two loads that way yesterday. It makes me happy to be able to have fresh-smelling clothes and not pre-heat the furnace with the dryer...

11:58 am

see -- laundry? and she dries it outside? lazy people don't do such things

11:58 am

*looks around sadly at shambles of house* I am making so little progress on all the things that have had to wait... *sigh*

11:58 am

let's see: always polite, proper English, has held up well under pressure, etc..

11:59 am

poor people do, Doren... anything that saves propane and power (and gasoline and money) we try.

11:59 am

Except we don't skimp on food. Much.

11:59 am

lazy poor people wear dirty clothes!!!

12:00 pm

oh thank you nef. that does sound nice. I will have to tell my kids!

12:00 pm

I picture stid as being more the Earth Mother type; always mothering everyone

12:00 pm

I do that, too -- in the summer mostly, but my "at home" garden clothes get extra use between washings! LOL

12:01 pm

Except I am terrible at maintaining correspondence-based relationships... I am nothing like my lovely grandmothers who always remembered everyone's important events.

12:01 pm

oh yes, she is nef. and puts so much energy into that, and teaching, and gardening, and mothering, etc. not lazy at all

12:01 pm

sadly, I have the same problem, stid....

12:01 pm

for NBT the lone A please?

12:02 pm

(and I've read stid's blog before; I Know she isn't lazy, even if she thinks so)

12:02 pm

ap 5 - french for before

12:02 pm

*hugs Doren and Nef* you ladies are amazing. I REALLY needed the esteem boost today, to be honest!

12:02 pm

that is a generational change -- I called my father in law (actually father out-law) to tell him i HAD bought him a birthday card, but forgot to mail it. he is 96 and sharper than i am!

12:02 pm

ah, merci, teach

12:02 pm

and that is NBT for me.

12:03 pm

i'm nbt, nbs, and down to 37 without a list. guess I'll come back later and finish it off. enjoy your day, folks

12:03 pm

I had several cards made for friends in Tbilisi, but didn't manage to get them to the person who would take the for me last week. So I need to either pay to send them (and hope they make it intact) or I need to wait until my next friend goes.

12:03 pm

go Doren go!

12:03 pm

bye, Dorens HAGD.

12:03 pm

I am heading out, too. Have a lovely day, all!

12:03 pm

*poof*

12:04 pm

HAGD, stid.

12:05 pm

And I should go shower and dress for the day; now that it's finally noon! (I worked very hard at being lazy this long!) Happy Babbling, Everybody!

12:05 pm

So who is still here?

12:05 pm

still here - trying to get last 19 so I can go and take a nap

12:06 pm

56 to go for me and I see nuffin'

12:08 pm

up at 1:45 am - took grandson to Pittsburgh airport - back home by 8:30 - need another nap

12:09 pm

A LONG nap!

12:11 pm

Well, I have had enough of this grid. It's time to play other word games during my lunch hour.

12:12 pm

enjoy the rest of your day

12:12 pm

What word games do you play? Always looking for new challenging (addictive) games.

12:12 pm

hello again

12:13 pm

hello ruby

12:15 pm

hello teach

12:15 pm

ruby - this morning my grandson showed me an app that gave different languages and it showed "allons-y" as let's go - what is the -y

12:15 pm

Quote Puzzler has 10 daily games--challenging + frustrating but I play everyday. Scrabble on Facebook too.

12:15 pm

gitel: do you pley scrabble on lexulous?

12:16 pm

scrabbler: I play scrab on facebook every day - name is Nancy Kelley

12:16 pm

challenge me

12:16 pm

(maybe we have to be friends first.....)

12:17 pm

Never tried it there but I love scrabble. Thx Scrab for the Quote Puzzler info.

12:18 pm

I think I've been playing scrabble since it was invented! oy, old as the hills

12:18 pm

You can friend me Real name Gail Rudolph Been playing here for years but never chat. I feel that I know you all, though.

12:18 pm

and have my mother's old, falling-apart scrabble dictionary

12:18 pm

I will start us a game later, Ruby. I cannot access FB from this health center.

12:18 pm

great, scrabs, I would love that

12:19 pm

I play Lexulous too.

12:19 pm

will do, gail

12:20 pm

I am giving up with 54 left, going into lex now!

12:20 pm

hi again all!

12:20 pm

bye teach, have a great nap!

12:20 pm

hello sue

12:20 pm

hi ruby!

12:21 pm

I quit with 54 left too. Not fun anymore.

12:21 pm

Hi Sue

12:21 pm

at a certain point, I agree, scrabs

12:21 pm

hi scrabs!

12:21 pm

just can't see any more words

12:22 pm

50 left for me, fast start on this one but now it is slower

12:22 pm

phantom: stipend

12:22 pm

tyee

12:23 pm

That was fun, however. Free Clue Thursday!

12:23 pm

ty scrabs

12:23 pm

got that one, scrabs, and the plural - lots of ty words in this one

12:23 pm

I've been typing the same words over and over (definition of madness?)

12:24 pm

didn't have any ty words before that, now have 6!

12:24 pm

I have 4 ty- words.

12:24 pm

7

12:25 pm

I have 7. Nyahh.

12:25 pm

having to do with poor keyboard management

12:25 pm

Ruby, I have been watching the Tour de France and looking for you in the crowds. Haha.

12:25 pm

cause forehead dents

12:26 pm

the 3 times I've seen it in person, the crowd was daunting

12:26 pm

and the time it passed my garden and I put stuff on the lawn to be seen from the helicopter, they never showed any of it because it was downhill

12:27 pm

Well, I will still look for you.

12:27 pm

even though these stages have been dull, I still love it, if only for the little castles along the way

12:27 pm

I've been told by a (maybe) reliable source, that next year it will go around Lake Annecy again

12:28 pm

in that case I will wear something identifiable or, at least, paint the dogs red, white and blue

12:28 pm

love it, ruby!

12:29 pm

I rode 29 mph down a hill when biking last week so I cannot imagine what 60 mph feels like on those big mountains--scary!

12:29 pm

it scares me just watching the downhills on TV

12:30 pm

I was scared at 29--I felt like I or the bike would implode.

12:31 pm

the first time I rode a bike with hand brakes (I was 26), I got scared at my speed, hit the brakes, and when head first over the handlebars

12:31 pm

went*

12:31 pm

phantom: matzoh

12:32 pm

Yikes! I have done that when mountain biking--when I hit a hole once, and another time when I rode into mud.

12:32 pm

they say that mountain biking is good prep for the Tour!

12:33 pm

I was always very careful to hit the back brakes first for exactly that reason!

12:33 pm

I did 9 miles on the trails and in the hilly park yesterday. It was demanding.

12:33 pm

But I am NOT ready for the Tour and never will be.

12:33 pm

I grew up with simple foot brakes

12:34 pm

they disqualified Jeannie Longo from the Olympics and I am desolee!

12:34 pm

Who is she? Which sport?

12:35 pm

she's the only famous Fr woman cyclist, must be 50 yrs old and NOW they say she's been doping. Who cares?

12:36 pm

46 left and I still don't have a 7

12:36 pm

38 to go. I need a break as I am getting sleepy. I must walk around while I wait for next kid to show up.

12:36 pm

I don't have the 7 either.

12:36 pm

see you later, scrabs!

12:36 pm

bye scrabs, see you in lex?

12:37 pm

sh7/48, plural of sh6/33, sounds like the things you put kebabs on

12:37 pm

Scrabble, Ruby.

12:37 pm

shticks?

12:38 pm

TY, Sue. I feel complete now. (except for lacking 5 of the 6's.)

12:40 pm

usually starts sk....

12:41 pm

ty, I needed that!

12:41 pm

good night, ladies

12:41 pm

and ty for the help

12:41 pm

night, ruby!

12:42 pm

Bye Ruby

12:48 pm

hi

12:57 pm

Hi Im back. We just had 4 1/2 hour power outage.

1:02 pm

hi Annie, that stinks.

1:03 pm

I want to visit Coney Island. but will wait til it is cooler

1:06 pm

Oh, no, Annie. Do you know the cause?

1:16 pm

I was adjusting all the clocks etc...we have our own power plant. We do not rely on Con Edison but we still had a blackout. They will send a notice explaining what happened but I am very happy it is on in time for Bobby to come home. The stairwell was pitch black. Im on the 23rd floor I was going to walk down with a flashlight and walk up with Bobby.

1:19 pm

Back again. Oh, Annie! That would be horrid: to walk down and then up 23 flights in the dark with just a flashlight! Is it hot there?

1:20 pm

Yes, it's hot but the AC is back on so I am relieved. Thank God I dont have to walk the stairs.

1:20 pm

wow annie,, i canot imagine living so high up... have always lived on the first or second floor

1:21 pm

I had to get used to being so high but I love it. The view is beautiful.

1:23 pm

What is your view of, Annie?

1:24 pm

(I can't imagine living that high either, have only lived in 1 and 2 story houses, but one was on a decent-sized hil....)

1:24 pm

I see the Manhattan skyline, Kennedy airport, Verrazano Bridge. Airport is quite a bit away but I can make it out.

1:25 pm

How neat! That does sound beautiful!

1:26 pm

I face west so I see the most beautiful sunsets too.

1:26 pm

:-) Wonderful!

1:27 pm

I am living here almost forever and the view is still new.

1:28 pm

how tall is your building if you live on the 23rd floor?

1:29 pm

Im on the top floor.

1:31 pm

nice annie

1:31 pm

Ahh. I'm trying to remember; I've been up that high before (DH's office was on the 19th floor so he worked that high); but I don't think I've ever stayed even in a hotel room higher than 10th floor (probably due to DH being handicapped...)

1:31 pm

Lovely when we do not have a power failure. It doesnt happen that often, thank goodness but scary when it does. Everything goes out.

1:33 pm

i don't even go up to my attic because it is the third floor-lol

1:33 pm

nice annie - do you live on the east side so you could see the fireworks?

1:34 pm

I face Manhattan so I was able to see the fireworks

1:34 pm

oh - are you in queens?

1:35 pm

Brooklyn near Brighton Beach.

1:35 pm

aah. I lived in queens. and manhattan.

1:35 pm

I was brought up in Manhattan but have lived in Brookllyn most of my life.

1:36 pm

oh - hence "brook" :)

1:37 pm

I thought maybe you lived near Newtown Creek.

1:37 pm

Isnt that in Greenpoint? No, I live near the beach.

1:39 pm

cool. did you go see the hot dog eating contest? It kind of makes me nauseous just reading about it.

1:39 pm

I went to see it once and almost threw up. It's disgusting. I dont know how they do it.

1:39 pm

I went to see it once and almost threw up. It's disgusting. I dont know how they do it.

1:44 pm

I have a question about the grid: earlier crossy said there were so many Babblets here; but I don't see more than 1 or 2. Am I missing them; or what?

1:45 pm

Nef, I was thinking the same thing. Not too many babblets that I see but maybe I am so used to them I think they are "real" words/

1:45 pm

haven't seen them. but then I don't usually get them until I list.

1:46 pm

just found my 100th word, and it's going sloooow

1:46 pm

I don't see them either. Must have been a hallucination.

1:46 pm

yay, HH

1:46 pm

thanks. I've made my own list of babbletys; but it isn't complete by any means and wasn't sure.

1:47 pm

I have 60 words left; so I'm right there with you Harry

1:47 pm

i only have 2 or 3, but then again i'm still missing 35 words.. hope some are babblets

1:47 pm

Hi Dorens :)

1:48 pm

ok, just found another (te5/16) and Hi annie.. just scrolled down, glad you have you AC back.. it's a brutal day

1:49 pm

dont have that one, dorens, please clue it

1:50 pm

te + is this a *l** to keep me in the chat?

1:51 pm

thanks

1:52 pm

i read about your view... i completely understand. My dad lived on the 34th floor in manhattan with terrace and allwindows on the north and west sides... achingly beautiful sunsets

1:53 pm

THAT is high. Achingly beautful describes it wonderfully.

1:54 pm

particularly since it is just a memory now. He died 9 years ago. i miss him so much. (and the view a bit, too)

we 6 please

1:54 pm

didn't know there was one, looking now. do you know the stats?

1:54 pm

He must have been a great Dad.

1:55 pm

no we 6

1:55 pm

sorry, science; I don't have but will look

oops not looking

1:55 pm

or not... :-)

1:55 pm

oh he really was. an extraordinary man.. gentle and brilliant (but smoked too much -- lung cancer)

1:55 pm

there is a we5/18 but no we 6

misread sorry

1:56 pm

we 6---sounds like the actress Diane We***

1:57 pm

we had friends who lived on a very high floor next door to the dakota on w. 72nd. They had a tiny balcony, and it was absolutely terrifying going out on it.

1:57 pm

I meant we5....grrrr lol

1:57 pm

thank. good clue

1:57 pm

the dakota is a great building and annie, somehow i knew tat

1:58 pm

Wasnt Rosemary's Baby filmed in The Dakota?

1:58 pm

yes it was. and leonard bernstein lived there, and my father was his lawyer

1:59 pm

Dorens, now I know where you get your smarts from? Did you ever meet Leonard Bernstein.

2:00 pm

yes I did, and Aaron Copland and Michael Tilson Thomas and Baryshnikov

2:00 pm

Wow!

2:00 pm

WOW!

2:00 pm

baryshnikov was the most exciting cause i had studied russian in high school, so i got to converse with him a bit

2:00 pm

Were they your Dad's clients too?

2:00 pm

the people you meet here!.... :-)

2:01 pm

yes. and others in the "serious" music world whose names you might not know, unless you followed that sort of thing

2:02 pm

Dorens, were you raised in Manhattan?

2:02 pm

dorens - that's really neat.

2:03 pm

this lady we knew - she was all bent out of shape after John Lennon was shot, with all the kids coming by to leave candles and things.

2:03 pm

no, my dad felt that we needed to be raised somewhere around grass etc (he was from Albany and his favorite memories were at Uncle Jack's farm ) He loved the city, but moved to NJ for raising the family. I wish we HAD lived in manhattan

2:04 pm

so many of us were bent out of shape after he was shot, Harry. But i can imagine living there was far more disturbing

Wow, I learn from you all everyday. Cool life, Dorens

2:04 pm

did you know klaus roy?

2:04 pm

Very few high schools offer Russian as a language. You can certainly speak Russian here. I live in Brighton Beach.

2:05 pm

i grew up in teaneck. And now my daughter is nearly engaged to a boy whose parents moved here when he was 9... i've been practicing with them

2:05 pm

"eyegoop" was not found in the dictionary

2:05 pm

Nice.

2:05 pm

(moved from russia)

2:05 pm

I know what you meant.

2:06 pm

I used to like this vegan restaurant in teaneck...I think it was called veggie heaven

2:06 pm

they arranged for her to have her 30th birthday party at one of those brighton beach night clubs.. it was such fun! and only slightly drunken (for me at least)

2:06 pm

they have opened one in denville, close to where i live, harry. Chinese?

2:06 pm

yes - it was delicious

2:07 pm

and after we moved to CT I found another one in port chester NY called green symphony, but then they closed.

2:07 pm

My daughter lives in CT.

2:07 pm

We're in new haven.

2:08 pm

Though we were in Greenwich for a year. A very bad year.

2:08 pm

mine lives in stamford now annie (she moved from greenpoint this year). where is your daughter

2:09 pm

why was it bad harry? cause it was greenwich?

2:09 pm

She lives in Wilton.

2:09 pm

wilton is where the quality guru Juran used to live.

2:09 pm

HH, Did you not like Greenwich?

2:09 pm

Dorens, we lived in a roach infested apartment, and it was very isolated.

2:10 pm

we were not in the upscale part :) we lived in subsidized hospital housing

2:10 pm

i don't know where wilton is, but i drive through CT all the time on my way to cambridge to visit the grandkids... altho they are moving to baltimore at the end of the summer

2:10 pm

Wilton is right off the Merritt in Fairfield cty

2:11 pm

oh, i know about that... was married for twenty years to a medical student, intern, resident and finally neurologist

2:11 pm

we're considering a move to cambridge area. Hard to find affordable housing

2:11 pm

HH, you got it right. Fairfield County, that is.

2:11 pm

oh, i see signs for that all th time. i love the merritt

2:11 pm

I'm married to a neurologist :)

2:12 pm

my son sold his house the first weekend he listed it, and they had so many offers they ende up $40,000 above their asking price. cambridge is definitely not having a problem with house sales

2:12 pm

harry is your neurologist finished with training yet?

2:12 pm

holy cow :( we're thinking of newton or malden

2:13 pm

yes, we're several years post residency. she's mdphd, and we got married before 3rd year of med school.

2:13 pm

so greenwich was intern year, which is bad enough w/o living in greenwich

2:13 pm

my sister lives in arlington, my other son in somerville... much more affordable

2:14 pm

my son is mdphd also. not neurologist, though... why are you looking at boston area? job there?

2:15 pm

she moved to pharma 1.5 years ago, and we're thinking of jumping to another company

2:15 pm

pharm? my son's phd is in the history of med/specialty pharmaceuticals

2:16 pm

he wrote a book.. she should look at it. Prescribing by numbers

2:16 pm

cool - is he working in pharm as well?

2:16 pm

no, academics... Johns Hopkins just swiped him away from Harvard

2:16 pm

five stars on amazon!

2:17 pm

that's great - my wife left academics after a few years, but she's still clinical faculty at yale.

2:17 pm

it is surprisingly readable. he is hot stuff... which is why hopkins stole him. Their Institute for the History of Medicine is apparently the top in the country. His next book (not finished yet) working title is Generic.

2:18 pm

Dorens, I've read part of his book; I'm very impressed by it (I think you must have told us here about it when it came out?

2:18 pm

oh of course i did nef... i live vicariously through these kids of mine!

2:18 pm

LOL! Don't we all! :-)

2:19 pm

I haven't told him yet... just had my physical and my cholesterol is 270. my md said if i weren't jeremy's mom i'd probably go on statins now, but he's sure Jeremy wouldn't approve. (he said this with a smile)

2:20 pm

Oh, dear! Have you adjusted your diet yet?

2:21 pm

no, because i am already on a pretty good diet. very little red meat.. only use olive oil (miss butter sometimes), but i can't give up cheese altogether. I love cheese

2:22 pm

:-) I understand that too well myself.

2:22 pm

I tried to look at his course "the social life of pharmaceuticals" but you need a login :)

2:22 pm

Hope you don't mind that I'm stalking your kid

2:22 pm

oh i'm sorry to hear that. harvard can be sooo stuffy

2:22 pm

oh no, i don't mind at all. i find most babblers to be more than safe, and i've seen you around here for a while

2:23 pm

but (and I'm a straight man) I have to say he's a good looking man.

2:24 pm

funny. i was just visiting my mom yesterday and she was showing me a picture of when he was 3 and talking about how good looking he used to be! thanks

2:25 pm

so, have you watched his youtube videos? he has no idea how they got there

2:26 pm

heh no - I'll have to do that later. right now I'm looking at house prices in somerville - I'd never considered the neighborhoods north of cambridge.

2:26 pm

i just noticed on his youtube video someone said "most eloquent professor I've ever had" that is so cute!!! He got his science brains from his father, but the word part from me

2:27 pm

That's so nice to see someone write about your own kid I bet!

2:27 pm

well good luck, hope you find something. Arlington is really beautiful, by the way. Nice parks and ponds etc... but much of Somerville is basically Cambridge North.... Davis Square, for instance..

2:28 pm

it is nef. between his adorable two children and that sort of thing, you can see why i live vicariously through him

2:28 pm

we really need to visit and look around before we make any plans.

2:29 pm

yes, and it is a fabulous place to visit too... so much happening there (much preferable to new haven)

2:30 pm

I just found his youtube video; he is nice looking! (how can his grandmother not see that too?)

2:31 pm

yes well, I found a great place in brookline, and for only about $4 million we can have the same house we have now.

2:31 pm

oh, i think she was sort of kidding. but he was an astonishingly beautiful little boy....

2:31 pm

here it would sell for about 450K

2:31 pm

ah, brookline... don't even bother looking there, harry

2:32 pm

"Astonishingly beautiful" what a fabulous way to describe your kid. : )

2:33 pm

50 left and life is interferring with Babble again. BBL; Happy Babbling Everybody!

2:33 pm

elegant, molly. that's what they call me

2:34 pm

bye nef. i'm down to 21 and think i need to do something else for a while too... this was supposed to be a ten minute break

2:46 pm

49 left. bbl perhaps.

2:54 pm

Hi All

2:54 pm

Hi Dorens!

2:55 pm

phooey that was 20 minutes ago.

2:55 pm

Hego! You are in the grid today. Ice cream sundaes in the PB.

2:56 pm

Hi Molly

2:56 pm

would love a sundae

2:56 pm

I figured something cool would be good, as most of us are sweltering.

2:57 pm

93 here

3:01 pm

We are at 95 and going up to 105 by Saturday. My energy level is tanking.

3:02 pm

yuk!!

3:03 pm

back again from phone calls and paying bills. How are you 2 doing today?

3:03 pm

I'm good Nef, ty

3:04 pm

keeping cool

3:04 pm

Not bad Nef, and you?

3:05 pm

I totally hear you too, Molly. We are in the midst of a heat wave with high humidity too; they say that by the weekend the humidity will drop; so 85 F won't be too bad (it's been in the 90's+ to 100's this week; was 85 with a humidity of 73 % when I got on here today (before 10 AM)

3:06 pm

doing well, Molly. Glad we have A/C

3:06 pm

I read about how brutal it was out your way Nef. I think we could all use a nice cool day with some fresh air.

3:06 pm

feel so bad for folks with no power.

3:07 pm

I do too Hego. I have been without power in heat like this and it's awful.

3:07 pm

the worst

3:07 pm

I agree hego. And also people who don't have A/C

3:08 pm

I feel bad for people with no A/C too. People who have it and don't run it, well I don't understand them.

3:10 pm

agreed. I used to not be bothered by the weather; but as I age it does affect me. A/C is a necessity for people with MS (like DH) as it makes the symptoms worse. We know a few people with MS who don't have A/C and that always bothers me....

3:14 pm

My son works at a summer day camp and they are having to curtail activities with the kids because of the heat.

3:15 pm

I can understand that, Molly. What ages does he work with? (can they make cooling scarfs?

3:16 pm

Grade school kids. And yes, they do the cooling scarves activity, it's a big hit.

3:17 pm

good. DH has several of them (not that we made them, mind you) and they really help cool him down.

3:17 pm

okay, what is a cooling scarf?

3:19 pm

the ones we have are made out the old-fashioned blue mens' hankies; a simple strip scarf with the absorbent gel beads in them

3:19 pm

never heard of it. interesting.

3:21 pm

it doesn't take much of the gel beads (couple of TBS at most), they get sewn into the scarf; you soak the scarf in water and tie it around your neck and it cools you down as the water evaporates

3:21 pm

even if you soak them in luke warm water, they are chilly when you put them on your neck

3:21 pm

neat

3:23 pm

hi again all!

3:23 pm

hi Sue

3:24 pm

hi sue!

3:24 pm

sue, are we going to meet in Vancouver?

3:24 pm

hi all, where do you get the gel bead?

3:24 pm

I think so, hego! I am planning to go, hope it can happen!

3:24 pm

hi Peri

3:24 pm

would like to make one for my sister

3:25 pm

craft stores or even garden stores peri.

3:25 pm

I will be there!

3:25 pm

ok

3:25 pm

sounds like fun hego

3:25 pm

so 5,14?

3:25 pm

are you flying out hego?

3:25 pm

i have never been there Peri.

3:26 pm

but I have grandkids in Seattle i was going to see.

3:26 pm

the way you call a pig, hego (the so5/12)

3:26 pm

5/14, sorry

3:26 pm

Yes, I will fly

3:26 pm

ty Sue, always forget that.

3:26 pm

that would be fun to do; but I can't plan anything for this summer due to DH's health (we missed a get-together in MT last year because he got too sick then also. Wonder if there's a connection? ;-)

3:27 pm

I have never been there either

3:27 pm

sorry Nef

3:27 pm

I plan to drive but it will take a bit of coordination; haven't decided whether to bring Frank along or not

3:27 pm

I have my new birth certificate, now need to get a new passport

3:28 pm

I thought you were doing that Peri

3:28 pm

Poor Frank

3:28 pm

have not applied for the passport as yet

3:28 pm

it takes a while

3:29 pm

well, it is complicated to travel with him due to his celiac disease - we have to bring food for him

3:29 pm

but if I leave him home he won't have a car

3:29 pm

I know and I want to look nice in the picture.need to get my hair done agai :)

3:29 pm

better start working on that passport; it takes a good month or longer for them to get to you!

3:29 pm

again

3:29 pm

my deceased husband had celiac, and we traveled everywhere.

3:30 pm

it took almost 3 months to get the darn birth certificate

3:30 pm

was he very sensitive, hego? Frank is sensitive to even tiny traces of wh***

3:30 pm

it's even easier now, Sue

3:30 pm

he also has problems with things like vinegar and tree nuts and even grapes

3:31 pm

not too sensitive but we were careful anyway

3:31 pm

my daughter applied for her passport 2 months before she needed it; then it was denied just a week before her trip because her birth cert. has "Anne" on it and DH put "Annie" on her Social Security card. :-(

3:31 pm

i did lug gluten free biscotti to Italy so he could have breakfast

3:33 pm

nef if you have a trip planned they will hurry it up a little

3:34 pm

maybe

3:34 pm

really, hego? I wonder if my dtr knew that and mentioned it?

3:34 pm

you can ask for expedited service but it costs extra

3:35 pm

anyway, nef, we will probably be passing through Minneapolis so could stop and say hi if you would like

3:36 pm

well, I'm sure she wouldn't have paid extra for that. And as of right now; she hasn't notified the SS that her proper name doesn't have an *i* in it.

3:37 pm

oh, sue! I'd love that! I'd love to meet you!

3:37 pm

if her name on her passport is incorrect that could be big problems

3:38 pm

ok - we will keep in touch, nef!

3:38 pm

hego, it's the SS card that's wrong

3:39 pm

when is the get together? (trying to check calendar to see what's happening

3:39 pm

that's not a problem for travel than

3:39 pm

august 18

3:41 pm

okay.

3:41 pm

leave hubby home, sneak over with Sue. lol

3:42 pm

There you go, nef! :-)

3:42 pm

: )

3:43 pm

very tempting, hego. Except DH isn't very trust-worthy when left alone for long. (Did I mention the stains on the ceiling AND carpet after my sisters' and my vacation in April?

3:43 pm

love to know how that happened.

3:45 pm

me too. and they aren't in the same spot either (ceiing stains are over the Lazy Boy; carpet stains are different colored and across the room. HE says he doesn't know how either stain happened either!

3:45 pm

Hmmm.......

3:47 pm

he has memory problems, so that *may* be true; but I don't know

3:47 pm

if i had a choice between house and getaway, i know which i would pick. lol

3:48 pm

I give him the benefit of the doubt most of the time; --but not always! ;-)

3:48 pm

but maybe he shouldn't stay alone, then.

3:48 pm

good for you.

3:49 pm

he wasn't alone most of the week I was gone; my dtr. was here but worked the first 2 days and then decided that she'd take the rest of the week off. I guess they had a good time visiting etc.

3:50 pm

sounds like a really good time

3:50 pm

they went to the VFW, the Legion, and ate out too.

3:50 pm

party, party. : )

3:51 pm

LOL! That's what I'm afraid of (re: the stains). My dtr. said she hadn't noticed them either; so not sure about stuff.

3:51 pm

I think they're in cahoots.

3:52 pm

I give up. I guess I need to list (haven't found a new word since I came back....)

3:53 pm

just a few odd ones

3:55 pm

have you finished, hego?

3:55 pm

Hego, I said that once around one of my sons and he said, "Mom, what the hell are cahoots?"

3:55 pm

not yet

3:56 pm

oh-oh our ages are showing!

3:56 pm

hahahaha

3:58 pm

I am pretty much stuck with 43 left, may list later

3:58 pm

I liste at 49, sue

3:58 pm

listed

3:59 pm

oh well, I should go write a few more physics problems

3:59 pm

BTW, Chicago has set a record high temp for today of 103; it is only 97 here

4:00 pm

whew!

4:01 pm

I am being very lazy and staying inside

4:01 pm

good idea

4:02 pm

anyway, bbl!

4:02 pm

bye Sue

4:06 pm

oswego!

4:06 pm

hi all :)

4:07 pm

49 left and I'm hopelessly stuck

4:07 pm

do you need clues Harry?

4:08 pm

I must leave soon

4:08 pm

I think I'm going to list - ty hego

4:08 pm

okay, bye then.

4:08 pm

I have a whole mess of P S T words missing :0

4:09 pm

they're not too hard with the list. poof!

4:10 pm

same here Harry. (was on a phone call)

4:10 pm

did hego finish or just leave?

4:11 pm

of course now it's "oh dear how could I miss that one"

4:12 pm

yeah, Harry, I just listed a little while ago and am saying the same thing

4:14 pm

BBS, doorbell

4:19 pm

back

4:20 pm

hi nef

4:20 pm

Front

4:22 pm

well, that certainly made things easier.

4:22 pm

3 to go.

4:22 pm

:-) I didn't want you to miss me, Harry; who knows how long that Schwans saleman would take

4:23 pm

LOL, Molly!

4:23 pm

we're waiting for a fedex delivery of an a/c unit for my daughter's br

4:23 pm

Ah, the food delivery man.

4:23 pm

she's terribly allergic, and I'm hoping that keeping her window closed at night will help

4:24 pm

(I really want to take a nap; but then wouldn't want to get up again. I'm being entirely too lazy today!)

4:25 pm

1

4:25 pm

Harry, what is she allergic to? Having the A/C on here does help us.

4:25 pm

Go, go HArry!

4:25 pm

I don't know, nef - I think it's tree something. probably also dust.

4:25 pm

testing a child for allergies just seems cruel

4:26 pm

how old is she?

4:26 pm

ugh. can I get a clue for et5? my monkeys are on strike

4:26 pm

I know there's gotta be a y and m? in there

4:27 pm

that's correct, Harry; then the 1st letter of the alphabet

4:28 pm

ty nef

4:28 pm

et + sometimes vowel + not pa

4:28 pm

ok - gotta run and get supper started! bye!

4:28 pm

(couldn't figure out how to clue til now...

4:28 pm

YAY, Harry!

4:34 pm

(and I'm seeing crossy's Babblets now; they are mostly the words I've missed but they aren't "my" usual Babblets....

4:49 pm

I think the definition of Babblet varies from person to person and from vocabulary to vocabulary. *Wink*

4:52 pm

the vocabulary makes a difference. I say the ta4/5 and 5/12 combo a lot right now because of reading about them to the grandson. I doubt if crossy says it often

4:58 pm

why hello mates

4:58 pm

hi Mark

4:59 pm

How are you, nef?

4:59 pm

doing well and being lazy Mark (staying inside and out of the heat). How about you?

5:00 pm

Same here. 100 degrees is inside chess and babble weather, not basketball. Doing quite well, thanks.

5:03 pm

:-) I'm glad I don't have to deal with my 3 yr. old grandson today; I'd have to send him outside for 10- 15 minutes to slow him down a bit

5:03 pm

That isn't nice

5:04 pm

3 though? I guess

5:06 pm

the last few days he'd go out with the dog to pick some raspberries or water "his" plants. (He wouldn't stay out long; and he kept wanting me out too; so I'd go out for 5-10 minutes at a time and he'd come in with me

5:06 pm

(I'm not as mean as that sounded)

5:07 pm

Och

5:07 pm

*ouch

5:08 pm

:-) sorry. He's been here for 10 days; I have today and tomorrow off. :-) I'm enjoying it

5:08 pm

Yeah, but you don't have the best weather days

5:09 pm

Boy! Don't forget to pl everything here today. A lot of the words I missed are pl's

5:12 pm

I really thinks that kids need to be outside a lot when they're young. They live in an apt. and he can go out in our fenced backyard and have a great time playing with the dog and me. I'm usually his favorite playmate; but the heat affects me more as I age.

5:14 pm

normally we meet some friends when he's here; we go to the parks and playgrounds (4 within walking distance) and can go to the beach just down the street; but it's been too hot for that this pa** week

5:17 pm

I agree Nef. Kids need to be outside in fresh air. It's so good for them.

5:19 pm

at 3, that kid knows how to use a computer and what shows are on at certain times. (then again, his dad is in the gaming industry...) Here at my house, he's learning other things

5:20 pm

Well then, it's nice that he has a Gram to teach him the finer things in life. : )

5:22 pm

pbskids.org is in my bookmark list too though. But we don't have Netflix (? is that correct?) so he can't tell us what we should watch at what times

5:24 pm

PBS is great programming for kids.

5:26 pm

he's learning some old time rhymes and he gets such a giggle out of them.. Do you know "a peanut sat on a railroad track..."? My son called me the other day to ask what it was (he didn't remember from his own childhood till I repeated it slowly for him. :-(

5:27 pm

His heart was all aflutter

5:27 pm

aLONG CAME A TRAIN -THE 9:15

5:27 pm

Choo choo! Peanut butter!

5:27 pm

TOOT! TOOT! Peanut butter.

5:27 pm

sorry about the caps

5:28 pm

choo choo? cool! There always seems to be regional differences.

5:28 pm

My kids and I changed the words because trains don't go toot toot.

5:29 pm

I also changed the words to rock a bye baby, because there was no way I was going to sing to my kids about a baby falling out of a tree.

5:29 pm

oh. We pretty much yell it (in a deep voice) or he blows his train whistle

5:30 pm

how did you change that?

5:31 pm

When the cradle rocks, the baby will sleep, so sleep little baby, don't make a peep.

5:31 pm

Ronnie kept asking why the baby was in the tree top and how he got there

5:31 pm

nice! :-)

5:32 pm

Oh, and it's when the breeze blows, not when the bough breaks.

5:33 pm

ok

5:33 pm

We changed the words to a few prayers that I thought were gruesome as well.

5:33 pm

Now I lay me down to sleep?

5:34 pm

Yep. If I die before I wake is pretty dark for kids.

5:34 pm

there is another version...

5:36 pm

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, Lord, be with me through the night And keep me 'til the morning light.

5:36 pm

how did you change it?

5:37 pm

See me safely through the night And wake me with the morning light Similar

5:38 pm

Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today?

5:38 pm

By the way, congratu;ations to all the finishers! Way to go!

5:38 pm

We never ended a Hail Mary with that "hour of our death" line either. Which is why the Catholics don't like me anymore. : )

5:38 pm

Hi Min

5:39 pm

hi Min.

5:40 pm

I guess I never worried about that line, Molly (in the Hail Mary)

5:40 pm

We never asked The Mother to "pray for us sinners" either. As I don't believe we are "sinners".

5:42 pm

interesting. I guess it all depends on how one looks at things (or the way they were taught?)

5:45 pm

How you pray is definitely a personal thing.

5:45 pm

Hello all Babblers

5:45 pm

Hey Mich

5:46 pm

Can someone clue the R, so I can go to bed with NBT

5:46 pm

that I agree with, Molly.

5:47 pm

Hello redturtlehead! How are you doing? Welcome to chog

5:47 pm

re4 sounds like a baby p**** in his diaper

but spell the guys name incorrectly.

5:48 pm

Nef and I went for the potty words : D

5:48 pm

Wow, thanks, got 3 out of 5. It is late and now I can go to bed in peace. More than halfway and NBT

YAY, MIM! WTG!!!

hello babblers

Hi TO.

6:04 pm

hi TO.

Upi know this grid really was not too difficult, I am now stuck but with 69 left...and I just barely started...

oops that was suppsoed to say you know. not upi. I got mis positioned on the keyboard...

hi red hi nef

6:07 pm

red, it started out easy for me but I hit a wall around 50 left. I did go to the list a while ago. One thing I notoced is that I missed a lot of pl's.

6:08 pm

how are you doing, TO?

Well I am really all of a sudden slow.

How are youTO?

6:09 pm

Morning all...Just listing w. 55 to go too

Hi Lynxx, how are you?

ia m fine, red.just back from several days at the shore. hot as heck though

and nef and hi lyn!

We seem to be having a very hot summer.

6:10 pm

v. well Red...enjoying the cold after reading in the chat about you lot over there!

6:10 pm

there are a bunch of Babblets, but not the "usual' ones (for me anyway)

yes.nearly two wqeeks of high 90s and to 101this saturday

I have to admit, i am for the first time, wanting some weather in the 50's...which of course is not going to happen...

funny, last week we had a few nights that cool. i am so glad we have power

6:12 pm

1 left

One thing that is tedious about Florida is that after about now, the air just does not cool at night...

But....it also does not snow or get insanely cold..

6:12 pm

it hasn't been cooling here at night all week. I do not like this weather!

go nef! red, i like warm night. not over 80 though. has been 96 at 11 pm

A nice cool breese helps, I do not like the warm night, I like to get under blankets.

I am very glad you have had power though...I think that is awful.

6:14 pm

25 here right now and beautiful:) ill pay the pennance of a few minus 20 winter days for not roasting in the summer(though for us when it get over 80f we start melting lol)

yes. i forgot to move the temp up when I went away andfelt guilty.. no way would i turn it off, a waste of power

6:14 pm

fw.

6:14 pm

75fatm*

now to catch up with email and phone and mail. happy babbling all

6:15 pm

bye Owl x

6:15 pm

yaa for nef!

6:15 pm

Congrats Nef!

6:15 pm

bye, TO

Congratulations!!!!!

ooh grats nef! x to lyn *poof*

6:16 pm

my last word was go 5/18. dumbest word in the grid (IMHO)

I like 80's. Not so fond of 90-100's but...if it is cooler in the am I do better..

6:17 pm

my brother says they had 114 a few times already in vegas,do not know how they survive

6:17 pm

80's and even 90's are fine; just get rid of the humidity please.

6:17 pm

but he also says humidity is very low there

I am a big old fan of humidity at about 60% or less. when it gets too dry though I dislike it.

6:18 pm

I noticed that our humidity has dropped through the day, it was 75% this AM when I came her; now it's in the mid-50's range. The temp is still in the 90's, but this feels much better

We have a similar thing, its nicer in the afternoon, but super hot...

49 left...

6:22 pm

63 left here and in a stall

6:23 pm

this isn't normal weather for us, red. Our humidity is usually in the 50's and 60's here

6:25 pm

need some clues?

Yes, we are actually having a fairly normal, if not a little cooler summer, unlike the rest of the country.

6:29 pm

going once, going twice.... Anyone need some clues before I leave?

6:32 pm

Okay! Happy Babbling, Everyone! And have a great day (or what's left of it).

6:32 pm

bye Nef

have a great night nef!

6:32 pm

Good night! <poof>

6:33 pm

hey - the pig calling is here - such an odd word

oooh thanks Lynx

6:37 pm

and done...spend quite a bit of time looking for words that Babble had eaten - again! See you all later..time for Stews walk

I'm late but congrats

6:59 pm

hi all

6:59 pm

whose birthday?

hi JMC, I did not know anyone was birthdaying..

how are you?

7:11 pm

She's being mysterious. Drop in, say something obscure like "whose birthday" when there has been no birthday discussion, and then disappear. : D

7:12 pm

Hello jmcnrick! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle

7:12 pm

Did I miss the birthday party?

7:13 pm

Tor, I think we are having one, whether it's someone's birthday or not. Cut the cake, won't you?

7:14 pm

Hello torgone! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log

7:14 pm

7:14 pm

7:15 pm

7:21 pm

*wonders if bakery across the street is still op4*

7:22 pm

7:22 pm

Someone said Happy Babbling.

7:22 pm

7:30 pm

hey molly

7:30 pm

and everyone else

7:30 pm

hey cos

7:30 pm

Haven't seen Kap

7:31 pm

7:31 pm

7:31 pm

kirsten is back apparently. thought id ask her

7:32 pm

Ahahahaha! Back from the slave trade?

7:32 pm

apparently lol

7:33 pm

Maybe they will start calling EJ, Elvis again.

7:34 pm

theyre bringing back the 1990s it seems. maybe susan will pop up

7:36 pm

General Hospital seems to have brought back the 80s with the return of such characters as Anna Devane,Felicia Jones Robert Scorpio (temporarily) and Heather Webber.

7:36 pm

running out of storylines i guess

7:37 pm

Or maybe trying to re-attract viewers who jumped ship.

7:38 pm

ah that would make sense

7:39 pm

I was so into General Hospital back in the Sonny and Carly days (The original Sarah Brown/Carly)

7:40 pm

i watched it one summer then got bored lol

7:41 pm

Any clues for the 7 please?

7:42 pm

sh7: where u take a bath in. change first vowel

7:42 pm

plural

7:43 pm

Thanks cos.

7:43 pm

Hello JeeWhiz! How are you doing?Welcome to the chat log

7:47 pm

Thank God it isn't anyone's birthday. It would be the world's most boring birthday party. : O

7:47 pm

it must be someone's birthday, somewhere...

7:48 pm

I have wine and chocolate cupcakes, but no one wants to share.

7:48 pm

(Which really would be the saddest birthday...)

7:49 pm

Wine and chocolate cupcakes is festive.

7:49 pm

i have 2 friends on fb who have birthdays today lol

7:49 pm

i have apple turnovers

7:49 pm

yes, but all alone is kind of sad

7:49 pm

Downloaded babbleexpert , and , I have to say it makes a huge difference.

7:49 pm

only one FB friend for me today...

7:50 pm

idk how i can play without expert!

7:50 pm

Now I want to go watch the South Park about Facebook.

7:51 pm

I'm glad I didn't go out to watch the fireworks last night ..

7:52 pm

It was miserably hot here, Tor.

7:53 pm

I was supposed to bike downtown to watch with friends, but it was 100 degrees at 9pm.

7:54 pm

Glad common sense prevailed.

7:56 pm

a friend of mine was doing a 24-hour walk a couple of days ago... I wonder if he's still alive

7:56 pm

The whole show went up in about 15 seconds. It was a colossal failure ..

7:56 pm

are you in San Diego torgone?

7:57 pm

I heard about that one... kind of awesome, in its way... there were some cool pictures

7:58 pm

Oh wow. How disappointing.

7:59 pm

Love the headline...Boom Too Soon

7:59 pm

in its way, more memorable than any other year... you will say in 20 years, "remember in 2012 when all the fw went off at once?"

8:00 pm

back

8:00 pm

did you miss me?

8:00 pm

Yep. It was pretty spectacular

8:00 pm

desperately, jmc!

8:00 pm

We did jmc

8:00 pm

*whew*

8:00 pm

The video is pretty funny. It's like a super speeded up time lapse.

8:01 pm

anyone answer my request for stats for the Y?

8:01 pm

JMC, to say it is as dull as a 90-year-old lady's sex life without you around here is pretty much spot on.

8:01 pm

yo5.18 and yo6.30

8:01 pm

ye4/10 trees

8:02 pm

nbt

8:02 pm

i would think it would depend on the 90 year old

8:02 pm

Okay then. It's just really boring.

8:02 pm

He may be smarter than the average bear, but he can't spell ..

8:03 pm

hey peony is not in the grid :-(

8:03 pm

haha good clue torgie

8:03 pm

ty all

8:05 pm

[blush]

8:05 pm

a little slow on the uptake ty for the complement molls

8:06 pm

my favorite possum is in the grid

8:07 pm

nene is in the grid

8:09 pm

*wondering how to get a reaction*

8:09 pm

nene is not in the grid!

8:09 pm

go5/14

8:09 pm

also, pogo is so a word! wtf!

8:09 pm

hahahahaha

8:10 pm

She's trying to trick you

8:10 pm

and it worked to!

8:10 pm

I don't know. Whatever we have been bouncing on all these years, is not recognized by stuffy ole Enable.

8:11 pm

maybe pogo is a brand name?

8:12 pm

hmm... could be...

8:12 pm

A German patent was registered March 1920 [2] to Max Pohlig and Ernst Gottschall in Hanover for a device they called a "spring end hopping stilt". It is thought that the beginning two letters in these men's last names is where the name Pogo comes from.

8:12 pm

god i love google

8:12 pm

yay!

8:13 pm

worse and worse poos is not a word

8:13 pm

that's a good story; I like it -- thank you

8:13 pm

also, no pooey

8:13 pm

or pooes

8:13 pm

*crosses legs*

8:13 pm

it's phooey i think

8:14 pm

well, it looks like I'm going to NY on October 16 to do a show and lose money

8:14 pm

sounds fun

8:14 pm

Start spreadin' the news...

8:14 pm

i is talking about politely say shits. . . poos

8:15 pm

i'm leaving today. . .

8:15 pm

oooh! swears in chat! swears in chat!

8:15 pm

it doesn't take poo but does take shit so what can you do

8:15 pm

can you get kicked out for that? I don't know the rules.

8:15 pm

Hey, no effing swearing here

8:16 pm

hey its in the grid so i gets to say it in the chat

8:16 pm

as long as you don't say it on days when it's in the grid. Then it's PB for you!

8:16 pm

:-P

8:16 pm

well i was careful not to use the past tense

8:17 pm

I have a storytelling friend who has now been blackballed from a Utah storytelling conference for saying "chocolate."

8:17 pm

???

8:17 pm

and I heard some other people freaked out because someone said "Jesus Christ!" in an in-vain sort of way...

8:17 pm

Mormons. Chocolate. Caffeine. Bad.

8:17 pm

i find that hard to believe since you can now buy beer in utah

8:18 pm

<==proud of being busted for booze with baptists in utah

8:18 pm

I want to have a panel in Minneapolis for storytellers called "The F Word." I'm just trying to figure out how to keep the dialog respectful so people don't strangle each other. It's kind of a polarized community...

8:19 pm

invite george carlin

8:19 pm

:D well, apparently the storytellers don't like other people acknowledging chocolate

8:19 pm

it probably makes them cry, because they can't have any

8:19 pm

And if you get a "will attend" to your RSVP, let me know.

8:19 pm

We couldn't afford him. Plus, no ghosts allowed.

8:19 pm

i thought it was because the story was about. . . oh god even I can't type that in the chog

8:19 pm

these crazy mormons what will they do next :P

8:20 pm

wait, backtrack, mormons can't have chocolate?

8:20 pm

insert vaguely racist remark here

8:20 pm

Hey, polygamy is fine, BUT NO CHOCOLATE

8:20 pm

I'm pretty sure not all mormons are like that. I mean, not allowing other people to talk about chocolate? That's crazy!

8:20 pm

no because it has caffeine shirl

8:21 pm

Even super-conservative Baptists talk about sex some times, if only to talk about how evil it is... (don't they? I might be talking out of my ass here... don't hang out with many...)

8:21 pm

most of them disapprove of polygamy

8:21 pm

they can't have caffeine, and there is small amounts of caffeine in chocolate

8:21 pm

take ALL the fun out of life!

8:22 pm

hmm... though google tells me anti-caffeine is not official church doctrine -- it's a conservative interpretation

8:22 pm

yay google

8:22 pm

shimmy undies too

8:23 pm

now now few religions can survive close scrutiny

8:23 pm

i knew about the undies but didn't connect the caffeine stimulants

8:23 pm

hmm, or maybe coffee is definitely out, but chocolate and cola are debatable...

8:23 pm

when my friend went to u. of u she had to sign a pledge not to drink colas

8:24 pm

Good evening Babblers.

8:24 pm

latter days is a wonderful movie

8:24 pm

hello wht

8:24 pm

I'm guessing Red Bull sends you right straight to hell.

8:24 pm

haha probably

8:24 pm

hi jes

8:24 pm

jmc, was it you who was away or was it your electricity?

8:25 pm

this one's way more my size than yesterday's grid

8:25 pm

there is a Mormon babbler

8:25 pm

There is a limerick somewhere involving uusue and u of u

8:25 pm

both wht . . . i was in Richmond at FUM

8:25 pm

lc somthing?

8:26 pm

I knew about FUM, but then you didn't come back on line afterwards. How is your house?

8:26 pm

Well, I'm sure there are Republican people who play Babble and that hasn't stopped anyone so far.

8:26 pm

I have no problems with Mormons or voting for a Mormon President with one big exception. They're ok people individually.

8:26 pm

I have nothing against Mormons. Only against crazy people who say storytellers aren't allowed to mention chocolate in their stories.

8:26 pm

my roomm*** texted that the lights came on yesterday am

8:27 pm

Just wanted that out of the way

8:27 pm

house is fine. . . some food gave it's all in the off fridge

8:27 pm

8:28 pm

oh, some storytelling conference in Utah.

8:28 pm

I hope you didn't need a hazmat suit to open the fridge.

8:28 pm

I LOVE EVERYONE!

8:28 pm

clearly they are crazy and wrong. :)

8:28 pm

biblically?

8:28 pm

we love you too, jmc! :)

8:28 pm

I love humanity. It is people I can't stand.

8:28 pm

She didn't say she "knew" everyone

8:28 pm

fortunately i am at fgc gathering so my roomm*** was the lucky winner

8:28 pm

:) nice, wht

8:29 pm

hahaha i wish viajes but molls is correct

8:29 pm

now I have an image of jmc throwing flowers and human hearts... kind of macabre...

8:29 pm

i have no problems with religion as long as they don't push it onto others

8:29 pm

that would be very time-consuming, jmc (loving everyone, I mean)

8:29 pm

dam. . . darn it now i am laughing aloud at the conference. . . you guys always get me in trouble

8:30 pm

*evil grin*

8:30 pm

That is good news. What an awful time for folks out your way.

9:15 pm

daily briefings stopped yesterday. things are going back to normal slowly

9:16 pm

It was ea 4/6 to babble with ea 4/4 today. I am almost done so here is a story of clues. When I was 18, I fell pa 4/6ionately in love with a man 20 years older than I.Wh 4/9 a mistake that was! I thought he was a great po4/5 because he always wrote mushy love poems. My ma 4/5 and I made a ha 5/16 decision and we eloped 2 months after we met.I really ha4/5ed not having my parents at my wedding, but they did not support our relationship. I got into a whole he4/6 of trouble when I returned from our honeymoon.I got into a he4/5ed argument with my parents. My hubby sugge5/14ed we move to the ea 4/4 coa4/4 to get away from them.He had lots of money so we bought a stylish po 4/6 house in California. I ended up depe4/6ing on him financially and for everything. He ended up being a control freak and a complete jerk.He would te 5/10 and taunt me and tell me that I wouldn't be able to survive without him. I te 4/5ed to think that was true so I stayed w/him even though I was unhappy. My Mother finally made me op 4/5 my ey4/6&I realized that my hubby was a jerk and my whole marriage was a sh4/6.They helped me take the st4/5s I needed to take to end the marriage. When I left husband,I moved back we4/4. I've gotten over the pa 4/5 and moved on. I am so glad that ph5/14 of my life is over.As time go4/6 by, husband is getting more impatient waiting for laptop. I am going t go read The Taming of the Sh5/20. I did not edit this story so there may be some ty5/16. I'll be back later on tonite to ty4/7 my last word. Goodbye for now.

9:17 pm

9:25 pm

ty Minveryork. Just got here in time for your story. They are always imaginative and helpful.

9:26 pm

hi bugsaw :)

9:31 pm

Hello Bugsaw! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log

9:31 pm

Hello jesdragoon! How are you? Welcome back to the chog

9:32 pm

Bugsaw, I am jealous! I am unable to come to Babble meet

9:32 pm

I'm well, min, and yourself?

9:32 pm

Hopefully, one of these days I'll be able to go to a meeting

9:32 pm

I'm well. I have been saving last word and about to enter it

9:33 pm

oh hi sorry! I got distracted by the ending of the tour de France

9:33 pm

BUGS!!!! GREANT GOT HIS LEARNER's PERMIT!!!! *faint* oh yeah. hey all.

9:34 pm

I wish you all could come though I have no idea how I could host it! I tried to talk uusue into picking you up on her way accross the country jesdraggon.

9:34 pm

passes smelling salts under stid's nose

9:34 pm

WWELL DONE GRANT! Having him drive himself will help you out SO much stid

9:34 pm

Hello stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog.

9:35 pm

JES. If you can get yourself to this side of the mountains, you can come with us...

9:35 pm

hello Min! I am ... breathing ... :-)

9:35 pm

I am finished! I have fireworks! go 5/18 was my last word.

9:35 pm

whowhawhenwherewhy?

9:36 pm

I will be here off and on to clue for the rest of the evening

9:36 pm

Bugs' festival in mid-August, jes. Mother and I are planning on going. I have just sent off for a replacement passport.

9:36 pm

Hego may need travelling companions to stid. She is flying in to Seattle and plans to make her way up here somehow.

9:36 pm

A babble meet

9:36 pm

CAN DO, BUGS!

9:37 pm

of course, there are some babblers closer to Seattle, if any of them are going...

9:37 pm

hi jes, I'd be happy to pick you up!

9:37 pm

ah, that seems sadly unlikely; newdoc is taking a week off in august, but is there a date settled? maybe they don't overlap

9:37 pm

oh boy. everybody is here. Hi uusue

9:37 pm

We'll have one big ROAD PARTY!

9:38 pm

August 18. If we can't pick you up maybe we can stick our heads in and say hi on the way?

9:38 pm

I'll have to make some home-made jams, I think.

9:39 pm

Jes is in Eastern Washington... are you coming across through Montana and Idaho?

9:39 pm

mmm. lemme check the schedule. i think newdoc will be back august 16. where is it?

9:39 pm

I am not sure if people want to ferry from Vancouver to Victoria and drive more of the island or if they want to ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and just drive for one hour instead of 3.

9:39 pm

aug 18? too bad. i was thinking of flying out with hego. (just a crazy thought when reading the chog). But our family vacation is aug 19 - 26th

9:39 pm

we might, stid, I haven't decided on a route yet, and will probably do different routes coming and going

9:40 pm

We normally come up through Pt Angeles on the Black Ball, Bugs -- cheaper than the clipper. Haven't done Van to Vic before.

9:40 pm

Hello Dorens! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log

9:40 pm

Ah, Doren, wish you could, too.

9:40 pm

Hello uusuue2!How are you doing?Welcome to the chat log

9:41 pm

Bugs -- Nanaimo, or Comox?

9:41 pm

hi, min!

9:41 pm

never been to northwest and was just thinking it would be a great excuse! hi min ii am doing well thank you, and you?

9:41 pm

Driving the island is lovely this time of year...

9:42 pm

Oh Dorens I am so sorry you can't make it with Hego. We set the date later rather than earlier to help with passport issues.

9:42 pm

Nanaimo, home of the famous bars... *sigh* Which I can't eat, but do admire!

9:42 pm

ah well. another time..

9:42 pm

*sad mama look* MY passport issues...

9:42 pm

What is your question stid? I live in Courtenay about an hour north of Nanaimo.

9:43 pm

ah, that's what I was trying to remember -- I kept thinking Comox, and didn't think it was right. *shakes head* either my memory is going or this is better beer than I thought

9:43 pm

bars?

9:43 pm

http://www.joyofbaking.com/NanaimoBars .html yum

9:44 pm

i's ok. i was thinking of doing two trips this year, but it looks like i'm doing a road trip to the adirondacks to pick up that boat scrabbler has been ra ving about

9:45 pm

yep. that scrabs does ra ve at times. *wink*

9:45 pm

ah, they do look yummy.

9:45 pm

i am down to 12 without list but it is beginning to lok impossible now

9:45 pm

I thought we could all gather and visit on the Saturday and then people could take Sunday to go hiking on the mountain or walk the long beaches or canoe or kayak or look for dinosaur fossils or whatever else they want to do while they are here. There are whale watching tours and bears at the dump and eagles everywhere so there is lots to do.

9:46 pm

brb phone

9:46 pm

sounds awesome, bugs!

9:47 pm

*sits happily in fossil-hunting group*

9:48 pm

sue, that video (about relative sizes of planetary bodies) is amazing!!!!

9:48 pm

anyone who is interested can email me at bugsawbabble@gmail.com

9:48 pm

looked at your nanaimo bars stid and gained three pounds just reading about them

9:48 pm

please send questions and any dietary restrictions so everyone is safe.

9:49 pm

Bugs, Frank has celiac disease so we will probably bring (and buy) his own food for him

9:50 pm

OK but I have stuff here too. My youngest has celiac. Can he have dairy?

9:50 pm

oh, yes, no problem with dairy

9:51 pm

Maybe I have some recipes he has not had before then. We will make sure he has a dessert too.

9:51 pm

fireworks, last word yo6,30, plural of boo boo bear's friend.

9:51 pm

cool! He'll be delighted!

9:52 pm

yay jes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9:52 pm

I also have dietary restrictions, but more limiting than celiac. Bugs, I'll negotiate with you separately...

9:52 pm

YAY JES!

9:53 pm

I love that hego is in the grid today

9:54 pm

yes, that is pretty cool :-)

9:56 pm

fireworks (that list definitely comes in handy) and yay to jes!

9:56 pm

People can stay as long or as little as they like. I am just happy to have a chance to meet more Babblers. They are the best and I am proud of where I live.

9:57 pm

YAY Doren!!!

9:57 pm

well done Dorens

9:57 pm

yay dorens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9:58 pm

thanks all.... and you're right bugs, babblers are terrific. I wish I could make it, you all will have such a great time! g'nite all

9:58 pm

night, dorens!

9:58 pm

We will toast you with Nanaimo bars

9:58 pm

<--- has met dorens and can vouch that she is great :-)

9:59 pm

later Doren!

10:02 pm

thanks sue.. but would you please tell stid that I am NOT elegant?

10:03 pm

Ha, I wouldn't know elegant if it bit me on the nose! (except Crossy's elegant who I am sure would do no such thing)

10:04 pm

and stid, you can check with owl, scrabbler, jmv, nrkii, uneaxiose, even ruru. they all can tell you

10:05 pm

LOL Doren! (don't ruin my illusion!)

10:05 pm

fireworks!

10:05 pm

YAY sue!

10:05 pm

I am down to 52, but don't think I have the interest in finishing. we'll see. My ocular orbs are tired.

10:06 pm

well done Uusue

10:06 pm

okay stid, i'll put on my pearls... nite now

10:07 pm

sweet dreams, Doren

10:07 pm

well, I am doing this instead of writing physics problems, sigh

10:07 pm

sue -- what do you think of the higgs particle discussions the last few days?

10:08 pm

well, mostly I read teh

10:08 pm

Is there enough evidence to consider this particle likely confirmed? I don't understand the science well enough. yet.

10:08 pm

sorry, enter looks too much like backspace, apparently

10:09 pm

mostly I read the technical papers, and am pretty familiar with the work (I have participated in two of the four experiments involved - one at Fermilab and one at CERN - although not in this particular analysis)

10:10 pm

I remember, that's why I thought you might be able to give me some guidance.

10:10 pm

so, yes, I would say it is confirmed, and looks very much like we would expect it to (that is, the fraction of the time it decays in different ways is about what we expect)

10:10 pm

That is SO cool!

10:10 pm

there is one potential anomaly involving its decay into two photons but there is not nearly enough data to say anything there yet

10:11 pm

note that if there are no anomalies it is ultimately kind of boring - we get much more excited when we find things we didn't expect!

10:12 pm

LOL sounds like the way I approach gardening (and art)

10:16 pm

Congratulations uusue2 on your fireworks! Hooray for you!

10:25 pm

well. down to 38. Will list and see what I can find. brb

10:26 pm

stidmama, I wrote a story of clues in profile if you need it.

10:29 pm

hi all. clue for the 7?

10:30 pm

Thanks Min -- will look there once I give the list a once-through...

10:31 pm

sh 74/8 is plural of the sh 6/33 word (one who chases mice away) mkg.

10:31 pm

sh7, plural of sh6/33, sh + pitcher

10:31 pm

Hello mkg! How are you doing today? Welcome to the grid.

10:32 pm

10:39 pm

10:39 pm

yo5/18 sounds like the bear that lives in Jellystone Park

10:39 pm

i am fine min, just tired

10:39 pm

Goodbye uusue2! I'll see you tomorrow in the chog maybe.

10:40 pm

yo 5/18 sounds like the name of a famous baseball player.

10:42 pm

or the bear

10:47 pm

fw

10:48 pm

Congratulations stidmama on your fireworks! Good for you

10:50 pm

Yahoo....stid....and thnx Min for the story of clues. I"m braindead, and it has helped.

10:51 pm

Hello pida 1! How are you doing? Glad the story helped you

10:52 pm

I"m doing pretty good, Min. How about yourself?

10:52 pm

pida!!! *faint* so glad to see you!

10:53 pm

Thanks for the story, Min. Sorry, we are watching Max Headroom videos while I play. It's a little distracting...

10:53 pm

Been a long time stid. How r u ?

10:53 pm

I r good. U?

10:53 pm

I am doing okay, despite the miserable hot weather we've been having. How many more words do you have left pida1

10:55 pm

41, but I'm getting ready to go to bed. At my age I need all the beauty sleep I can get

10:55 pm

today, pida, our younger son got his learners' permit and I took him out twice to get some time behind the wheel.

10:55 pm

I started thos one early fortunately,so I was able to finish it

10:56 pm

Can you beleive the weather. It's cooler in FL then almost anywhere else in the USA

10:56 pm

Congratulations to your son!How does he like driving so far

10:56 pm

Are you teaching him how to drive on automatic or manual

10:56 pm

ty for y clue. grey y now.

10:56 pm

It was a strange sensation, to realize that this gives him one more notch of independence -- or will in a few months! He LOVED it, of course!

10:57 pm

Yabba dabba doo!!!!!!!!

10:57 pm

both, but the stick first. He is taking to it like a duck to water. This is the child who dances so beautifully.

10:57 pm

go mkg go!

10:58 pm

I believe It is much better to learn on a stick. Once you can drive a stick, you can drive almost anything else. I learned how to drive with a stick. I do not like driving automatics.

10:59 pm

Unfortunately,I think that stick shifts will become obsolete

11:00 pm

Honda car company no longer makes cars with a stick-shift

11:00 pm

That's how I feel, Min -- I prefer manual transmissions, but with my joint issues sometimes I really need automatic.

11:01 pm

That's a reason to not buy a Honda... although as I said I do need an automatic sometimes. Tom has the automatic.

11:02 pm

My van (and the one I had before) have been Honda Odyssey, and I like them, although to be honest when it is just me in it there's too much space. It's useful mostly when I take Grant and his friends places.

11:02 pm

With my commute, it would make sense for me to drive an automatic, but once again,I really do not like to drive one.

11:03 pm

Except for sports cars, they will probably all be automatic. Kids nowdays can't talk on their phones or text and change gears at the same time

11:04 pm

I am guilty of that. I DO text and change gears at the same time.

11:04 pm

That's true, pida -- I find I am less likely to try to talk on the phone when I have a stick shift to think about.

11:04 pm

I have a bluetooth speaker for talking on, but even dialing out is hazardous. I dial at red lights...

11:07 pm

I've told everyone that I do not answer the phone when I"m driving. I have a radio on my phone, and if it is an emergency, they can alert me, and I'll stop and call back.

11:08 pm

Somehow, we all got along without calls for years, and I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

11:08 pm

Or maybe just old......

11:08 pm

My brother and sisters and I learned how to drive on a stick because that is what my parents owned at the time. Now I am the only one left in the family who drives a stick-shift.

11:09 pm

Grandmother even drove a stick-shift up into her eighties.

11:09 pm

I got the phone because I was driving on rural roads through meth country with my kids... and had a minor fender bender once at a very suspicious location. After that, the phone was deemed necessary.

11:10 pm

And since we don't live in the same town as the children's schools it made sense to get some for them once they were older, too. But for me -- I don't like texting. It's less efficient!

11:10 pm

Well, I always have my cell with me. but haave never used all my mins. and I only get 500 mins a month. I like land-lines at work and at home

11:11 pm

But when I drive over 60 miles each way for some jobs, having that phone lets me check in with people. I never use my minutes, either. I don't talk much (usually) even with land lines, but I do like to know where people are!

11:12 pm

I am a BIG believer in land-line phones. I do not even have my cell phone on when I am home. My phone is very basic.

11:12 pm

I agree, stid. They are handy sometimes....

11:12 pm

Didn't even start texting until years after I got a cell phone

11:12 pm

Exception: when I was student teaching in middle school, and driving over an hour to get home (sometimes close to two and a half...) I would call my best friend in Virginia and debrief. LOL never talked so much on the phone before or since!

11:13 pm

our cells do not work at home. They are "out and about" accessories only. :-)

11:14 pm

Good chatting with ya'll. Gotta hit the sack. Nite all

11:14 pm

sweet dreams, pida ((hugs)) see you again soon, I hope!

11:15 pm

I use my cell phone to call & text. I do not need to have the world wide web at my finger tips at all times. That is what a computer is for. Whatever is on the internet will still be there when I get home.

11:15 pm

I agree, Min -- we have a land-line because I know that it most likely to continue to work in an emergency. Then my "work" number is a VOIP phone (through the internet) which automatically forwards to the land line if the power goes out or the cable line is down.

11:17 pm

I am really thinking that my next phone will go back to something like the trackphone I started with. All I need is simple phone capability and occasional text messaging when the kid or I are in school because texts are less disruptive. Of course, when I am teaching my phone is actually off... but when I turn it on again texts can reach me sometimes when I don't have a signal strong enough for voice.

11:17 pm

Goodbye pida 1!Hopefully,I'll see you here again tomorrow

11:19 pm

Don't turn my phone on at work until lunch time. Hubby gets annoyed because I never have it on.He asks what is the point of having a cell phone if you don't turn it on?

11:20 pm

Have thought of getting rid of my land-line to save money.

11:21 pm

I think I will head out, too -- now we are watching Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which I managed to get through my life to this point without seeing. LOL Stidkid and Tom decided it was time for me to see it. ((Min)) so glad you were here and able to chat a bit. I hope the weather turns cooler for you soon. I hear the heat is just moving further and further east, and that's not good. Now, since I am completely in the PB, I shall fade out.

11:21 pm

Goodbye stidmama! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log

11:22 pm

Have a lovely end to the week, all! *leaves some nice rock candy and choclits in PB* *poof*

11:24 pm

I am going to take a break too. Hope to come back for flip

11:53 pm

oh wow, was about to start until I noticed the time... prob couldn't get it done

11:54 pm

Hello kje! How are you doing today? Welcome to the chog.

11:55 pm

I just erased story of clues when I changed profile picture.I thought most people would have finished the grid by now.

11:55 pm

yes indeed

11:55 pm

and not sure even with a clue story that would have been sane to start - lol

11:56 pm

Any guesses for the next puzzle size?My guess is 449 words.

11:56 pm

hope not... no time for that!

11:56 pm

11:57 pm

hoping for 921

11:57 pm

hello everyone :)

11:59 pm

ah, ok, yes, it was recent

11:59 pm

Hello dart001! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
