Hi Im back. We just had 4 1/2 hour power outage.

I was adjusting all the clocks etc...we have our own power plant. We do not rely on Con Edison but we still had a blackout. They will send a notice explaining what happened but I am very happy it is on in time for Bobby to come home. The stairwell was pitch black. Im on the 23rd floor I was going to walk down with a flashlight and walk up with Bobby.
Back again. Oh, Annie! That would be horrid: to walk down and then up 23 flights in the dark with just a flashlight! Is it hot there?
Yes, it's hot but the AC is back on so I am relieved. Thank God I dont have to walk the stairs.

I totally hear you too, Molly. We are in the midst of a heat wave with high humidity too; they say that by the weekend the humidity will drop; so 85 F won't be too bad (it's been in the 90's+ to 100's this week; was 85 with a humidity of 73 % when I got on here today (before 10 AM)

agreed. I used to not be bothered by the weather; but as I age it does affect me. A/C is a necessity for people with MS (like DH) as it makes the symptoms worse. We know a few people with MS who don't have A/C and that always bothers me....

Grade school kids. And yes, they do the cooling scarves activity, it's a big hit.
good. DH has several of them (not that we made them, mind you) and they really help cool him down.
okay, what is a cooling scarf?
the ones we have are made out the old-fashioned blue mens' hankies; a simple strip scarf with the absorbent gel beads in them
never heard of it. interesting.
it doesn't take much of the gel beads (couple of TBS at most), they get sewn into the scarf; you soak the scarf in water and tie it around your neck and it cools you down as the water evaporates
even if you soak them in luke warm water, they are chilly when you put them on your neck

I really thinks that kids need to be outside a lot when they're young. They live in an apt. and he can go out in our fenced backyard and have a great time playing with the dog and me. I'm usually his favorite playmate; but the heat affects me more as I age.
normally we meet some friends when he's here; we go to the parks and playgrounds (4 within walking distance) and can go to the beach just down the street; but it's been too hot for that this pa** week

I am a big old fan of humidity at about 60% or less. when it gets too dry though I dislike it.
I noticed that our humidity has dropped through the day, it was 75% this AM when I came her; now it's in the mid-50's range. The temp is still in the 90's, but this feels much better

I thought he was a great po4/5 because he always wrote mushy love poems. My ma 4/5 and I made a ha 5/16 decision and we eloped 2 months after we met.I really ha4/5ed not having my parents at my wedding, but they did not support our relationship. I got into a whole he4/6 of trouble when I returned from our honeymoon.I got into a he4/5ed argument with my parents. My hubby sugge5/14ed we move to the ea 4/4 coa4/4 to get away from them.He had lots of money so we bought a stylish po 4/6 house in California. I ended up depe4/6ing on him financially and for everything.He ended up being a control freak and a complete jerk.He would te 5/10 and taunt me and tell me that I wouldn't be able to survive without him. I te 4/5ed to think that was true so I stayed w/him even though I was unhappy. My Mother finally made me op 4/5 my ey4/6&I realized that my hubby was a jerk and my whole marriage was a sh4/6.They helped me take the st4/5s I needed to take to end the marriage. When I left husband,I moved back we4/4. I've gotten over the pa 4/5 and moved on. I am so glad that ph5/14 of my life is over.As time go4/6 by, husband is getting more impatient waiting for laptop. I believe It is much better to learn on a stick. Once you can drive a stick, you can drive almost anything else. I learned how to drive with a stick. I do not like driving automatics.

That's how I feel, Min -- I prefer manual transmissions, but with my joint issues sometimes I really need automatic.
That's a reason to not buy a Honda... although as I said I do need an automatic sometimes. Tom has the automatic.
My van (and the one I had before) have been Honda Odyssey, and I like them, although to be honest when it is just me in it there's too much space. It's useful mostly when I take Grant and his friends places.
With my commute, it would make sense for me to drive an automatic, but once again,I really do not like to drive one.
Except for sports cars, they will probably all be automatic. Kids nowdays can't talk on their phones or text and change gears at the same time

That's true, pida -- I find I am less likely to try to talk on the phone when I have a stick shift to think about.
I have a bluetooth speaker for talking on, but even dialing out is hazardous. I dial at red lights...
I've told everyone that I do not answer the phone when I"m driving. I have a radio on my phone, and if it is an emergency, they can alert me, and I'll stop and call back.
Somehow, we all got along without calls for years, and I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

My brother and sisters and I learned how to drive on a stick because that is what my parents owned at the time. Now I am the only one left in the family who drives a stick-shift.
Grandmother even drove a stick-shift up into her eighties.
I got the phone because I was driving on rural roads through meth country with my kids... and had a minor fender bender once at a very suspicious location. After that, the phone was deemed necessary.
And since we don't live in the same town as the children's schools it made sense to get some for them once they were older, too. But for me -- I don't like texting. It's less efficient!
Well, I always have my cell with me. but haave never used all my mins. and I only get 500 mins a month. I like land-lines at work and at home
But when I drive over 60 miles each way for some jobs, having that phone lets me check in with people. I never use my minutes, either. I don't talk much (usually) even with land lines, but I do like to know where people are!
I am a BIG believer in land-line phones. I do not even have my cell phone on when I am home. My phone is very basic.

I use my cell phone to call & text. I do not need to have the world wide web at my finger tips at all times.That is what a computer is for. Whatever is on the internet will still be there when I get home.
I agree, Min -- we have a land-line because I know that it most likely to continue to work in an emergency. Then my "work" number is a VOIP phone (through the internet) which automatically forwards to the land line if the power goes out or the cable line is down.
I am really thinking that my next phone will go back to something like the trackphone I started with. All I need is simple phone capability and occasional text messaging when the kid or I are in school because texts are less disruptive. Of course, when I am teaching my phone is actually off... but when I turn it on again texts can reach me sometimes when I don't have a signal strong enough for voice.
