when i cat-sitted, there was nothing like liver, i got raided before i was able to unpack the stuff
(dont have pets of my own)
the vet had me switch him to wet food regularly, instead of dry, because some of his kidney levels were a little high. she thought the weight loss was probably related to that.
maybe i will go get some liver today and see if that makes any difference. i don't know, the only thing he ever gets excited about is carrots.

because they do naturally start to drop a bit of weight as they get older, but 12 is a bit early. Have you tried the raw diet-most places have it now-ground up turkey or chicken and nothing else-comes in frozen logs.
no, haven't tried raw yet. but i don't think that would work well for him because he likes to graze, will never eat much at one sitting, and i can't leave raw things out for him!
It depends how hot it is where you are. My cat, who is now 18, has always been, as you say, a grazer. Hot a chow hound. He was having urinary stone problems over and over again and we switched to the all natural, all raw diet. I put it out and leave it out and he grazes ( I mean left to their own devices they eat many disgusting things with no problem),and he has done great on it.
you could ask your vet about it.
well the food i'm giving him is super healthy, supposed to be the next best thing to raw. but maybe.
good luck...i know how worrisome it is when they don't seem to eat enough.

so far he is getting away with tightening his belt but he's running out of belt holes (guy clothes are typically more adaptable than lady clothes)

so far he hasn't had much in the way of drug side effects (except the prednisone made him REALLY hungry and made it hard for him to sleep) but it is still early days
but I dumped the horseoills they gave me, too many bad side-effects
