anyone here??
more or less i am, yes.
lol, dcs....glad i'm not the last surviving....
i would make a final surviver...lol
* survivor *
nope, though it's nearly 3 AM. I shouldn't eat as late as i did. If i eat, i'm up another 3 or 4 hours.
dcs, what are you missing?
oh, 32 things. Between the good cry i had and the hour, i'm not set on finishing now. I't'll be easier after i sleep.
awww dcs....how can i help you??
i'm rather drained, to say the least. I shared a memory of my father -- he died in 1986 -- and it hit me hard.
just one of those things -- as i tell people, the hurt never goes away -- it just gets less frequent and sometimes blindsides you when you least expect it.
just one of those times -- the memory was so vivid it hurt, which happens sometimes.
yup, right with you, buddy. trying so hard to face it is over 10 years since my own father's death.
and the mother....is so pathetic....i have to leave it to the bro's....trying to deal with the mother-in-law...never mind my own mother.
yeah, i get that.
it is really so pathetic, in my own mind....i mean...it's my mother who needs help...and it's mother mac who is under my roof.
just where do i divide my attention??
dcs....i feel for you...and your family....
Sigh. So hard when it's just the one dealing with it.
my sister and i split duties helping our mom.
dcs....wish don's siblings wold come to the party. unfortunately...they do not see how excessively mum's demands are. one lives in hope.
sigh. Yeah, that's the case so often.
morning
morning, sarah

morning all. Scottish dialect and chemistry rools OK today
please could i have a clue for the 8
ta8 -- tight and measure ending.
Jenny add a Hebrew letter to the last ta4/5
morning dcseain
thanks got the 8 - never heard of that word before
no neither had I
I am convinced that Enable contains one particular version of the Bible (not the King James), the whole of Robert Burns' works, and what used to be referred to as "the Rubber Book" - a hefty chemistry reference text which we used in the lab at work.
scouser, you should read jillibus description of ENABLE -- it's in her profile, you can find her in the rankings.
it certainly doesn't contain some of the words that I use in every day language
(when not being read for data, it was handy for weighing things down!)
Yes dcseain - I have had a look at that some time back. Very funny.
scouser, read jillibus's profile. a very accurate description of enable
:) it has a bunch of yiddish in it to, like mensch, schtetl, schtetel, shtetel...
The other day "funner" and "funnest" were accepted yet those are not in Lickety's lists. They sound wrong to my English ears.
ahhh, scouser...i have enable word list on a short \cut on my desk-top...very handy.
hey jenny
funner sounds wrong to my american ones, though funnest i've gotten used to.
well, i ought off to bed, it's nearly half past three AM.
g'day/night and happy babbling, yall!
{poof}
And what about all those coins of the world - which by definition will not be English words! Ditto GrannyRose
lol, dcs....i would be unconscious by your time. sleep welll mate
scouser, where are you at?
I'm here in Liverpool GrannyRose
I meant I have the shortcut etc
Sorry conversation got a bit knotted there!
okay, so you are at sunday???
No its Monday morning.
scouser...np's
I am amused by this description of ENABLE: http://tinyurl.com/auy8lfm
am almost at monday pm...
hey, BR
Hello, Rose
BR, how are they hanging?
I am okay.
Hello BabbleRabble - I had a look at that as you suggested. I noticed a funny comment in the other topics about drinking tea and shooting each other with hand guns.
Hello BabbleRabble = what is that in your icon?
good on you...am on my first day of annual leave. mother mac went into respite care this morning. have spent the rest of the day cleanong.
shrew
BR.... her bathroom was so bad. completely under siege from a bacterial infestation. lots of hard yakka.
Perhaps you might rent a sandblaster?
lol, BR....have bought another bottle of chlorine.
Aha BR - I thought it might be a marsupial.
GrannyRose - yakka - what a great word for "gunge"
GrannyRose - or does it mean work
I think I will change my name in here to "Tangential" since my brain is definitely in that mode today
scouser?????
what is yakka?
hard work
what BR said!!!!
Queensland's cold, wet winter has been hard yakka -- leaving us chilled to the bone and sick with flu, coughs and colds.
OK maintenant je comprends. I thought it might mean the stuff in/on the bathroom!
Lili put her hand in her chip purse; what chips she had were sandwiched between a gunge of half-melted chocolate.
okay...rubbish is needs to go out...need to check just what the bins have in them...
BR - yes I saw weather reports that parts of Queensland had flooding yet again. Everything meteorological seems to be getting more extreme
and fires and extreme heat.
Brill BR though I have never heard of a chip purse before.
scouser...mens just what do you need to accomplish...
* means *
anyone reading this chog later on had better look carefully at the times - the fires and heat are not brill at all - the brill was about the chocolate.
chip purse: http://tinyurl.com/bzh9egm
scouser....queensland and uoper territory, has been hit by summer storms.....and below....well watch this space.rose sent
BR - very good - recycling at its best. The grandchildren have something like it.
* upper *
I saw on youtube a clip of some chaps "rescuing" i.e. 4 men wrestling it to the ground, a cassowary. I can remember one sledgehammering my dad's shoulder at the zoo - no-one knew it could reach right over its fence and a small hedge to attack anyone sitting on a bench nearby until Pa sat down. The keeper said it was after his white hair!
oh...scouser..... too close for comfort.
the cassowary was being rescued because of the bad weather I think and because it was getting into gardens presumably for shelter.
NB Pa's hair went white when he was in his 30s
scouser, have to say goognight.
scouser, have to say goognight.
scouser, have to say goognight.
scouser, have to say goognight.
scouser, have to say goognight.
darn, scoser, goodnight.
this is very wrong....
Cheers GrannyRose - I wonder what happened there.
see all my babble friends tomorrow
I have got to go too. Byeall

Hello again
Good Morning Everybody! How are you all on this beautiful winter wonderland day?
grey rainy day here
good morning everyone.freezing raid day here.everything was encased in a inch of ice this morning
It's foggy here; but we had about 3 inches of wet snow here yesterday and NO breezes; so it's very pretty this AM
freezing rain*
we were supposed to get the freeing rain, but just got rain - thankfully
oh, crossy. That's pretty but so many trees and bushes loose branches with that weight.
you did luck out, wv.
it is all supposed to go to regular rain by lunchtime so i hope it does not become excessive
Hello kids.
howdy scwabby
hi Scrabs
hello scrabbler
Snow, sleep, freezing rain, rain--all variations today. I saw 2 cars and 1 pick-up truck in ditches on ride to Indian Reservation this AM.
waiting for that here Scrabs
we had the nasty rain, sleet, snow yesterday. Lots of small town schools are running 2 hours late because of the roads; but the MN highway department is doing a good job.
how far do you have to go to work today, Scrabbs?
MN probably does a bang up job on the roads
they try to, bichon. There are certain weather conditions that are bad no matter what they try to do though.
The worse the weather, the better the road treatments are. Here they sand before a storm
It's 24 miles from my house to the Indian Reservation Health Ctr. Just 8 miles to my main office.
I hate the below zero blizzards with blowing snow. they cause extremely hard drifts that challenge even the plows; so it's like driving over a series of curbs. Very wearing on both the vehicles and the people in them.
Oh, man, Scrabs! How early did you have to start out?
Any dh- words?
It's usually a 30 min drive, took 45 today. Better to go slow and arrive safely.
nope, no dh.
TY, ww.
thanks winding wake
Aha, I found my last D word. do4/6
very true, Scrabs.
** finito ** last word DO 5/12 - thought i had already typed that one in
Yay wv. Now you are free to enjoy the day.
YAY, wv!!! WTG!!!
yes, lots of things on "To Do" list for today
for crossy's tidbit of the day,i am reposting this link(ty br) of the official description of enable and it's history(now we know who to blame)! http://tinyurl.com/auy8lfm
How is everyone today?
Interesting.
howdy mich
Hi michnick
Hello?
Ah, hello. I couldn't see my messages until I refreshed. That happens a lot to me, wonder why.
hi Michnick. I was off reading crossy's link and DH interrupted me
I have passed the halfway mark, but stuck with the Y as a blank. Can someone clue it before I go mash some taters for poor hubby who had a root canal today!
10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet Yo 4/8
ye + double consonant
(Only one I've found so far
Thanks, bich, a new word for me.
Going to checl on potatoes, BRB
thanks, bichon. Y's done! :-D
Nef, you had to tell Michnik? LOL
hint for lone r, pls
and I don't know any Hebrew (or any other language either!) But it's on my babblet list
TY for Y clues.
re +to 5/16; to fix a painting error
I knew the Hebrew letter but I didn't think to put that last consonant on it.
TY
ty Nef.
Mich, it funny how we think Hebrew words should be spelled in English
hint for ou 7, pls
I guess that's true for any transliterated words. We once made an hysterical skit about place name spellings for a group of students learning here.
sorry, don't have it yet, bich. (But am now looking)
Add not in to do4
Definitely for Chinese. Still don't know know to say Beijing
I think it is the 1st of the do4's
wow. that ou 7 is odd
ty for the ou
time to get busy with actual work
ttfn
Bye all, off to mash
bye, bichon. HAGD!
bye Mich. Hope hubby does well.
well, it's after 10 AM here; I suppose I should get busy and do some cleaning around here. The grandson has been here 5 of the past 7 days and it really shows. BBL; HAGD Everyone!
Bye. In and out here.

nbt
Hi harpjane :) wtg on the nbt

I have 18 left, gonna have to list
Hi Jane and Smores
Gotta go now.
Hi can someone go into Lickety's clues and see if the box-less clues come up on your computer and let me know asap I have computer help working with me now
are you still here mary?
yes am waiting
is anybody still here?
hello mary and smores
if you are refering to the printable clues, yes, although it took a very long time to load
Hi ruby :)
on Chrome for Mac I see all the boxes
since I don't wear a watch, I never know exactly what time it is
hi dan
HI dan :)
Psssst...Ruby...lower right corner of your computer screen...the time.
I'm on internet explorer. anybody else in explorer
and our "ship's clock" is not 32 mins off. I could deal with 7, but this is getting too weird
now*
-- loves molly
Yes but ships clocks ding, and that is cool.
and once you get the hang of it -- when they do what, it's very nice. We took these off husband's lasyt sailboat
and, clearly, I can't type tongiht
I use Babble Expert Mary, but when I click on the lickety link at the bottm it does open on IE.
My parents had a ships clock. I used to have to put it in the garage when anyone slept on their sofa bed.
we had a wonderful sailboat in Miami, but this lake is too small for an ocean-going sailboat
it's a Chelsea clock (and barometer), but when it came back from its restoration, DH didn't read the instructions and messed it up
Why can't you reset the ships clock?
I've fixed it so far, but it's getting worse and worse
A man who doesn't read instructions? NOOOO, COULDN'T BE. (drips with sarcasm)
I took it apart and tried, but he wound it too tight and I've been trying, with the help of the Chelsea guy, to fix it. I don't feel like spending another $3,000 to have it re-repaired
ya think?
"Instructions" and "directions" are not in the vocabulary of most y-chromos.
I am so clodse to committing murder, that you can't imagine.....
Why monsieur gendarme, no. My dear friend Ruby loved her husband. She would never have done anything to hurt him. *Bats eyelashes*
hahah
He must have tripped and fallen on that baseball bat. He was very clumsy you know. 20 times? You don't say.
they know me, if you can imagine, at the local gendarmerie as we've had so many "incidents"
"kitchen knife"
I give up with 23 to go. Sharpenigh my knife
hi ruby, are you planning to carve someone up?

lol oh facebook....
molly is your avatar an order or a suggestion?
like nancy reagen "just say no"
It's a suggestion Harry, I don't give orders.
the joke was that nancy r was going to start a war on homelessness, with the motto "just buy a house"
just say no to drugs, save your money to buy a house, two birds one stone.
speaking of houses, Dr. House's boss is in the grid
Cos, one of the reasons I check things like that on Facebook is to help a friend who does computer forensics. He's compiling a list of examples of how unsafe Facebook is.
that list has got to be the size of 1/2 encyclopedia set
Well, a variant spelling of Dr. Ho5's boss.
But the correct spelling of the scotch.
yah..sorry for the ho5 :) hope there's ice cream in the pb
Six quarts of Cold Stone Creamery, a variety of flavors. Knock yourself out.

was telling carlee that our town is funny in that although it is only 20,000 in population, because of the ski hill our 2 tiny wrecking yards for cars have more bmw,s and mercedes per square foot than many big cities
that's what you get for living in god's country... you have toshare with all the "haves"
Could I get a clue for ch7, please?
hehe, the value of the spare parts in those yards are worth more than our town yearly budget;)
c+ what people live in

any ideas on how to get over the death of your dog?
Oh Witchy I have no idea but I'm sorry for your loss
thanks katie
can anyone clue the u words?
nm....got them
witchy - it's pretty much the same as getting over the death of any loved one. I guess 'getting over' is not really what it is. Grieving is a process one has to go through, no way to get around it. Hits you at odd times and there's an empty space in your heart that will always ache a little. That's the advice I got and it helped. A little.
I know it doesn't mean anything right now, but the ache will get less, and the good memories will stay with you. The mind knows how to heal the heart. You made a start on healing. You reached out to others who will listen and understand.
Oh Witchy...I lost my dog of 15 years a 18 months ago..jwr is right there is a place in your heart that will always ache a little...It took me a while
and I still miss him
so sorry, SeaSpray. 15 is a very long time. Sometimes it's harder to get over the loss of a beloved pet than a person just because they gave unconditional love.
during this time I also lost my father in law and my dad...my heart is very heavy to say the least...there will come a day when you will be able to talk and laugh about your dogs antics
you are so right jwr
gosh, that's a lot of loss all at once. I hope you had (and still have) a lot of support from friends and family.
family and friends have been amazing...especially my husband and children...
Thanks he was 13 and although I lost both my parents 10 years ago this seems worse at the moment but I guess it just got easier without me realizing it.
I thought it was worse too witchy, I guess because he was at my side everyday
As SeaSpray can probably tell you, there is no cumulative effect to grief but there is instead -- what can I call it -- a compounding of it. Each time you have a new loss, the old one(s) come back too.
Witchy, who have you got to talk to? (besides Babblers, of course!)
All my family but they are grieving too, we are remembering the good things about him but Babblers always seem to know what to say to help. Thank you all
Spray, it's great that you have the family there. It does share the burden, and your husband must be going through it too (both your fathers, oh my).
yw, witchy. I usually don't get a chance to say anything because so many Babblers are there to help and they do it so well. Glad I was here if it helped. Bye to both of you. Gotta go.
yes, like I said my children and their spouses were there every step of the way...we lost our dads one year and one day apart, my dad on my birthday...it has been such a difficult time, but you just keep your chin up and do what you have to, maybe thats how we get through it all
bye jwr..ty
Bye ty

falling on the floor laughing out loud
falling on the floor laughing out loud
It was that funny?
it is kind of funny

considering how much recluing that goes on around here .. I"m glad there's a word for it
:) well, now there is
if it were a word, wouldn't you leave the e in? reclueing?
hmmm ponders lol
I don't think you would say reglueing
hmmm....
truing, or trueing lol

We could really be like Enable and accept multiple spelling
good idea! all for acceptance here :)

lol...not sure
Well, I gotta go. Going to watch Bones with my girls.

BBL, have 8 left :)
You too gramma...enjoy your evening :)
stats for the w words please
NM
taser is a barnd name.that is why enable says no
ok I've tried thousand about a thousand times now
Most people are surprised to learn that the name TASER is actually an acronym that stands for “Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle.†The TASER gun was originally designed in 1969 by an inventor named Jack Cover who named the TASER gun after the adventure character Tom Swift. tidbit for the day

-- hands jilly chicken soup and hot tea--
clues or stats for m words?
*Passes hot tea with honey to Jill*
Evening, all!!
And I still think hotty is a word...my son uses it all the time~
but for bacon i may mosey on in
hottie
5 mo4 words
Either way Enable doesn't like it
5 mo5 words and one mo6
maybe Hott-ay
second mo is what surrounds a castle, the first changed the last consonant.
mohun
I think people who use hott-ay use gawd too. As in gawd what a hott-ay
crossing, I had a bacon and Apple Crist
3rd mo4 is mo+t***m pole
ha
that was funny
crustini
then add the sometimes vowel for the mo5/16
should I fotflol?
hello ruru and molly
Only if you piyp too

That depends
Got get dry, ru....we'll wait...and talk about you while you're gone.
I need a huggie
<---thinks ruru needs Depends
As long as it's not a snuggie
Go, that is.
all huggies are snuggies for me
I remember being young and having the nickname "the camel" because I could wait and wait....now my nickname has been changed to "the faucet."
Okay, but if you're going to strut around in a blanket poncho and Crocs, I can't look
....you'll never see me in a pair of crocs
the blanket poncho sounds okay though...
brb
I have to figure out what I'm making for dinner
Am seeing food phantoms tonight..chutney and saute.
and squatter
That's not a food phantom, ru...it's a POST food phantom.
How was the restaurant last night?
only okay
evening all...may I have a clue for the qu 6-30 pls?
I was hoping it'd be better
they did have some really great eggplant fries though
qu6/30 add a vowel to the qu5
thank you!
Eggplant gives me the geebies
qu6/30 is like a modern african american name
these were pretty good
odd word...
poofy they were
I've never seen it before either glitzy
I ordered braised Spare -ribs.. but they were only ok
the service was good though.. so that made it better
It's disappointing to go out for dinner and have it only be okay
I know my braised spare ribs are better than those.. I did like the restaurant though
eggplant fries? never seen them.. sounds good
they were really tasty
Poor Dorens, still in the unknown country
they soaked them in water and lemon juice and dusted them with garlic powder and lemon zest and some kind of rice flour and deep fried them
they were like air.. very light
no one else was eating them so I ate most of them
i'm in french polynesia. I'm just so disgusted with our congress, not proud at all of this place right now.
I'd have wanted them for sure
and left my spare rib to fend with the slightly overcooked veggies
you're in polynesia?
I didn't get the geebies either
they also had great onion rings. loved those
Have any of you ever had to watch a pet die? I brought Lucy to the vet yesterday for euthanasia, and he felt it would be better to try to give her appetite stimulatns, antibiotics, prednisone and a bunch of other meds. Of course I felt it would seem wrong to ask him to just go ahead and put her down. She had a bad night last night, and I came home from school today to find her lying in the laundry room unable to move. She is still breathing, and cries from time to time. But at least she is here on my bed and seems to be soothed by my talking to her.
That's good Ru. And you didn't feel the need to defend poor, picked on eggplant. : D
what's the matter with her doren
I'm sorry Dorens. It sounds like what you had in mind was more humane that the vet's idea.
who knows? saturday night i came home to find her bleeding from the nose, eyes discharge and obviously in distress. Now she just can't move at all. Only lifts her head once in a while.
that's very tuff. how old is she? what does she have.
oh.. geez.. maybe it is her time
did the vet say what it could be?
yes, I'm quite upset with the vet. She is 17, which is time to go in my opinion, when she had hyperthyroid, hypertension, obviously the beginnings of kidney failure. Saturday orning she wouldn't eat at all, or drink water (which she's been drinking 2 ounces at a time). It is her time.
then do the right thing for her
Vet thought it could be rhinitis, some kind of infection. X rayed her, thinking cancer, but found no tumors.
they'll let you know
Its difficult, I've done it 2 times, but I felt both times that the dog knew what we were doing was best and just having me there helped them.
it's the hardest thing to do .. to say goodbye to a beloved pet
I'm really sorry Doren..
I'm expecting she will die tonight. Don't see how she can go on much longer like this. When I saw her totally immoblilized I called the vet and asked about bringing her in and they said they could see her tomorrow. I kind of think, no thanks. I'll just keep her here now, I'm so annoyed with them.
17 years is a long time to have a pet.
it is the sign of a good owner when your pet lives that long
prayers to you...
I lit a candle for Lucy, Dorens.
they should have said of course, bring her in I don't care how many other appointments they had. How much time could it have taken them to administer a shot. So now, unless she is really crazed, I will just let her die here at home, as I did with my father ten years ago. I just wonder if I could give her some oxycodone or xanax or something like that to put her out. thank you molly
that is so hard Dorens and I am sorry for you watching her in distress. She will find more relieve and comfort from the sound of your voice and the comfort of your warmth. It will ease her passing.
I agree, they should have let you bring her in.
relief, osrry
My vet is great and lets you bring in emergencies whenever, even on New years Eve
and glitzy and the rest of you. What makes me worry the most is that if she is still alive tomorrow, I have no choice but to go to work. I'm chairing some important meetings and can't miss them. was even thinking of bringing her in a basket and keeping her in my office. That does seem a little nuts, though, right?
going for food. can't even spell sorry when apologizing for bad spelling....................
no need bugs... i thinki correcting your typos is unnecessary in this forum.. Obviously we're all intelligent and know how to spell "-)
do you have an emergency vet where you are?
my vets do emergency calls. That's why when I brought her in yesterday morning it cost $150 just for the office visit, cause it was an emergency visit (being Sunday). Then there was the x-ray, the SubQ, and all the meds. All so unnecessary. She was purring yesterday while I was stroking her... It should have been done then. But at least she is home, and (hopefully) comfortable for the most part.
I just thought since you needed to be at work there are emergency vets that only do that and will take you and make her comfortable to get the shot if you decided on that.
Hi Arctic Tundra. How are you doing
On the other hand your vet should not charge you for the shot tomorrow either.
salmo..good ..thanks...long walk with T. then this addiction
Justing getting to it. 46 words to find
salmo, down to 11 and stuck stuck stuck
That is unfortunate Dorens. The vet should have honored your wishes and not done all those unnecessary tests.
hi everyone (dorens, would you like me to get the name and number of my kids' vet?)
and no, my kids don't go to a vet - they bring their animals there (in case you were wondering :)
Our vet will even come to our house to put a cat to sleep...
missing one q word, 2 m words, one n word
is it the qu6 by chance?
dorens, if you're looking - dr. bacon, cedar lane animal clinic, somerset, nj (732) 469-5133
no...I have q4/8, 5/18, 5/16, 6/27, 5/18
sounds like a crossy joke - but his name really is dr. bacon
add a vowel to 5/18
you are missing the second qu6...add a vowel to the 5 before it syb
evening all - looking for a clue for SA 5/16 please
jilly - feeling better?

The new Subaru is great.Does not look like a new car anymore w/the weather we had today.Already salty.
Glad you like it, min! I liked my Subaru a lot.
i've had two subarus and really liked them both (a long time ago - a gl wagon and an xt6, both stick shifts - loved them!)
That's okay Min, we have a bunch of rain headed our way. It should be all washed off soon.
hi, molly
hi again. can't blame typos on my kindle with au4 correct. i'm on my desktop. :-)
dawg!
Hi lbd :)
Really wanted to get another stick shift, but I broke down and got an automatic.First one since I learned to drive. Stick shifts cars will soon become obsolete.
Hi lbdawger! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi all can i have a clue for the first mo5 please?
no, they'll never be obsolete - we just picked up another. the car i drive to work is automatic, but there's something about driving a stick :)
Min your story doesn't include the usual " this is'nt true" disclaimer....hope you just forgot
This is my second Subaru welki.Had a Forester before
mo5/16 is what you put food in when you eat cosdem
Hiya cos :)
then you know how reliable they are - mine never failed me
Hello cosdem! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid

hi welki, smores, Min and cos.
They may not become obsolete in Canada, but I think that they will soon become in the United States welki
I've only heard great things about Subarus, will be ready for a new car(used, new to me) soon, I've been checking out the Forester
perhaps on the family-type vehicle, but not in sports cars - min, you need to buy yourself a corvette next

hi lbd!
hi lbd!
hi Nef, hi UU
I'm trying to chat in the wrong box and nearly entered a WORD in chog. I need to be careful tonight.
good heavens, Nef! None of the rest of us ever do that! (hahaha)
I'm having a "discussion" tonight with DH about Medicare. We are both very set in our ways and neither wants to give in.
what about Medicare? Supplemental insurance?
No. He thinks that he will get it automatically; I say he has to sign up for it. (He turns 65 next Monday)
Ah. I think you have to sign up.
(This has been an on-going arguement; I don't want him to be penalized for life if he doesn't sign up)
anyway, fireworks!
I know he has to sign up.
Congratulations uusue2 on your fireworks!Way to go
YAY, uusue!!! WTG!!!
Nef, you have to apply for Medicare just like you have to apply for any other benefit (Social Security/Disability) No one gets that automatically.
I know, Molly. It's him that's the stubborn one.
And it's scary because he has trouble with cognition; so his memory isn't the best.
Can you apply before you turn 65 (so it becomes effective on your birthday) or do you have to wait until you're 65 and then apply?
So showing him a pamphlet that explains this will not convince him?
Nef, you do get part A automatically when you turn 65 but you have to sign up for part B. And you should get a supplement as well
He *thinks* he gets it automatically because a letter he got says he's *eligible* for it.
You should apply about a month or so ahead of time.
That is for part B
ok, good to know, thanks tabby!
sue, this is something we've been disagreeing on for 3-4 months now.
oh dear, nef.
I recently turned 65 and just started Medicare
Can you fill out the forms for him and then just get him to sign?
Hi all.
hi nrkii!
Nef, I think you do have to "register" for part A though.... https://questions.medicare.gov/
THANK YOU tabbycat! I just read your posts to him; and hopefully he understood that. (He's a former Federal Employee and had a disability retirement; his Blue Cross Blue Shield will be the supplemental insurance)
hi nrkii
hi nrkii; thanks for the link!
Hubby stayed on my insurance for a few years until I retired. He got part A automatically, then applied for part B right before I retired.
I'm an expert googler :)
:-) Good to know nrkii!
We did have to get a form filled out to prove he had insurance up to that point so he would not be penalized and have to pay a higher rate for part B
okay, tabbycat; but did he get penalized for not signing up sooner?
Nrkii is correct. You have to apply for Part A too. Medicare doesn't magically know where to find you.
No, if you are covered up to within 6 months of when you apply you are not penalized.
oops, sorry to leave so fast, but gotta run... happy babbling everyone!
That part never made sense to me. Seems like they'd be glad they didn't have to cover you for a few years
really. Hmmm. Everything I've read says that it's a lifetime penalty for not signing up at age 65. We have 2 friends (one a USPS retiree and 1 another retired Federal employee) who are being penalized for not signing up on time
You have to get that form to prove you were insured with comparable coverage to avoid being penalized.
Maybe it's different for government employees. I was in the private sector with company insurance
okay. I do appreciate the info. Babblers rock! (and it really lifted my mood too!)
Hubby was self employed and I carried him on my insurance
((((nef))))
In fact, I have the form right here. It's called a certificate of prior coverage and you get it from the insurance company where you were covered
thank you all. Now; back to Babble! :-D
Thanks for that info too tabby!
<---Thinks Nef is trying to change the subject
I have 31 words left; I think it might be time to list since I can't see anymore words now
there are some very strange words in this grid, nef
They want to discourage going very long without coverage or treatment, so you don't wait until you need serious treatment ..
I'm just reading it over and the credible coverage period has to be at least 18 months and the gap between that and the beginning of Medicare or other coverage has to be 90 days or less. Sorry for the incorrect info before.
True, Molly. I'm happier now and want to finish the grid (esp. now that I know what to do!)
What about people with no health insurance? They don't get Medicare?
Yes, Molly, they can get Medicare.
BRB
If they apply to be covered as soon as they turn 65 there is no penalty. If they wait too long before applying they could have to pay a higher rate.
Okay, I guess I wasn't getting the credible coverage thing since people with no health insurance would have none. As usual, with any government run thing, it's complicated.
mocha :(
must be the cold medicine talking
Molly, that was what my hubby had to get because he didn't take Medicare part b when he turned 65 since he was still on my insurance.
off to the pillows. good night everyone. see you tomorrow. poof
Drat. Daughter just called; she "may" have a concussion. She was at derby practice and got clocked by one of the other gals.
hi, all. phantom: dowdy
hi melonhead, How are you tonight?
hi, nef, I'm pretty OK. Have an operation ahead. hip replacement. yikes.
Remember we talked about this a week or so ago? If you have a good surgeon; you will do very well. Honest! I had one a year ago. The worst part of mine was that while I was in the hospital they'd wake me at 5:30 AM and make me go to therapy before 7 AM.
hah, I just guessed the ta8 after looking at Lickety. 1st try :D
(And having that surgery then made my life so much better too!)
OK, now I do, nef, sorry for the flakiness. How long were you in hosp. Did you go straight home. What kind of implant?
WTG, melon!
YAY melon?
hiyee, stid!
hey all! I had a REALLY long, tiring, day... but I think I am "done" now and taking a few minutes just for myself. For the first time since I woke up at 5:15...
My hip is Titanium and ceramic. I was in hospital for 4 days (counting surgery day)
And I did go straight home too; have home PT but no RN or aide because of family.
Adhesive or no?
??? adhesive? what do ytou mean?
My doc is one of University Hospital's top hip guys, trains residents.
meet my bionic friend, Nef... she can sit up, walk and stand, just like a barbie doll... *wicked mama look*
stid; that's too long of a day for anyone!
wow melon, that's really impressive!
I'll have my son at home and daughter nearby. PT is a friend who will give me advice on getting the house ready. How did you prepare for your return home, nef?
Good surgeon to have then, melon! :-) Have they set a date yet?
I don't plan on doing that tomorrow, Nef -- will go in a LOT later, and leave almost "by the clock" tomorrow and Wednesday. But by putting in so much time today I know exactly what I am doing for the rest of the week and I have everything ready for the next three days. :-)
Melon, I hope you will have a good experience.
re: adhesive, my doc said he will decide when he sees the bone whether to use an implant that is held with adhesive (glue) or one that has a rough surface into which the bone grows. The second type is better for someone as active as I am, but has a longer rehab_no weight bearing for a few weeks.
No, I have to get my ducks in a row. Looking at mid-May to early June. Hope to return to work in Sep (I work in a school system, thuse timing it for the summer off)
we live in a 1 story rambler; the biggest thing I had to worry about was pushing the bed out far enough from the side wall so I could get a walker around to my side of the bed. (DH has MS; we have the house wheel chair accessible anyway. But I didn't need a wheel chair ; just used a walker for about 10 days
R please? down to 39!
I had surgery the end of July and wanted to go back to work the beginning of Sept. but I had family to take care of (DH's AUnt was living here and dying of heart failure)
I'm on one floor, I just need to de-clutter. I understand you can' lift your lag past 90° for a few months, so I'm wondering how do I pick something up off the floor, feed the cat....put on underwear???? :P
re 7/40: to go back over and paint places you missed
thanks, Nef.
two more blanks and then I am turning into a pumpkin.
Tom was home today, made supper and is folding clothes...
You need to get a "grabber" melon
don't forget that base word, to5, stid
Awww. so nice of Tom to do that! :-)
:-) thanks Nef
Ah, yes, the grabber. Are there a lot of restrictions on types of movement? I know no crossing midline ("grapevine" step for example). I have a compact car, I can see where getting in an out will be tricky. (R hip, btw)
we call those "long hands" in our family, Nef! ;-) had one when my back was bad and the boys were little. Made life so much easier.
my last blank is the D on the bottom row -- unless it's fishy?
I lived in a Rambler for a while ..
My dad had one, the kids called it the "claw part".
Oh, torgone, I passed on that bad joke...
*stomps feets* HOW CAN MOCHA NOT BE A WURD??!?!?
melon, the things that were invaluable to me were the wheeled walker (the kind with a seat), the grabber with a magnetic piece on the tip and a hook to help dress you; and the sock device.
It's not connected, stid
stid, da 4/6 rhymes with ta 4/6 (tight)
could schedule surgery for summer, then wouldn't need socks....
Summer = no socks for me! (;
oh, piffle, tor -- my stupid tired eyes. *sigh* wishful thinking, I guess!
hm. thanks Nef *thinking*
got it! both, actually...
:-D
they gave me TED socks (compression socks) which were actually very comfy
I just have so many habits I suspect will need adjusting. Believe it or not I sleep on my side, partway toward my stomach w/my leg drawn up to my chest sometimes. I read the Sunday paper with my legs slung over the arm of the easy chair. I just have this feeling I'll need to "rehearse' new movements for my recovery phase. I just don't wan't to screw up.
well, down to a youthful 32, and will now pack up and toddle off to beddy bye. Another day, another dollar... and it's soon February! And hopefully soon it will be Spring. Without a late cold snap...
oh, yeah, TED socks, which have to be more interesting than TED talks (ack—finger down throat).
(((hugs all))) have a lovely rest of your week! *poof*
nef, it's been nice, but I won't or should not make it to the flip as I have water exercise tomorrow morning and a half-day of work in the pm.
no crossing your leg over midline (but you can cross the "good one past midline); good posture. Driving may not be allowed (I couldn't drive for 6 weeks, it was my rt. hip also. Sleep with pillows between your legs
bye, stid! Sleep tight!
okay, melon. I'm heading off to bed myself. I may get a call from my dtr. during the night so I should sleep while I can.
tx, nef. I heard a stationary bike will be good exercise. I'm a cyclist, and through all this, even though I can barely walk around the block I can still ride 20 miles! Floyd Landis is my hero.
[poof]
