Anyone else in Ontario just feel an earthquake?
yw :)
Greetings, fellow Class M planet inhabitants.
uh oh....earthquake?
Carlee started her new job this morning so would not be on babble - she lives in ontario
Cool. How strong was it, Andee?
Not strong. But I thought maybe it was just my imagination.
I love the randomness of the chog -- it looks like I'm taking credit for the earthquake. Which I am, of course.
nothing on google yet....last earthquake reported in Ontario was April 15, 2013 near the Quebec border
Well Jen, you are very talented and powerful
No, stop, really . . .
:)
This is very odd. I have felt the house shaking and heard the china rattling twice in the last 10-15 minutes. But you are in Niagara, Andee, and I am in Ottawa - pretty far apart to both be feeling the same seismic event
There was an earthquake in Chile about 20 minutes ago. Not related to Ontario, obviously.
Interesting. Canada has the wiggles this morning.
They are now reporting a 4.8 earthquake felt through Ontario this morning
i feel nothing here, but have no idea where you are situated
Just a baby quake. No biggy.
The epicentre seems to be Shawville or Aylmer - just across the river from Ottawa. I'm still amazed that you felt it in Niagara!
ahh 6 hour drive east of me
Must be on the same fault line.
i can get to ottawa in 5-6 hours
Where are you, Crossy?
I'd rather have an earthquake than a plague of cicadas.
Name that proper noun: Dr. of childrens literature.
seuss
Ding! Ding! Ding!
love his books
Who doesn't? Essential reading for all human beings.
Gave my son "Oh the Places You'll Go" for his HS graduation - read it to my students as they moved on to middle school
"Green Eggs and Ham" was the first book that my granddaughter read for herself
good day everyone!
hello puglet
Hiya, puglet!
So, wvteach. Do you still teach?
eoise
sorry
lost my way--lol
this is 4th year of retirement
Good day to all. We just felt an earthquake--40 minutes ago. Centered in Quebec but felt in Buffalo area. Has Crossy been here? He is closer.
loved teaching, but also love retirement
Good for you! I just read your profile. Do you buy books for your grandkids? And if you do, do they actually read them?
Hi Scrabbler
Hi, Scrabbs - see earthquake chat at 8:57.
my granddaughter (7 year old, 1st grader) is always readaing books. Has gone through ther Magic Tree House book series. The 2 year old will let you read books with him, but not the way his sister did at that age
Aha.
The 14 year old knows how to download books to his phone and reads them on there.
That's great to hear. So many kids don't read today. Nor do they have books read to them. Crazy. I always loved books.
wv, my middle nephew, now 23 and majoring in computer engineering, read his first book at 4--Green Eggs and Ham
Need to have their parents / grandparents model it for them. If they see adults read / going to the library / hanging out in book stores they are more likely to read.
In my office I ask kids about their hobbies--not many readers, especially among boys. Sad.
I remember being able to read before I entered kindergarten. So many children don't even know the alphabet now before being enrolled in school. And I know that's not just a problem in our crappy public school system here in Delaware.
Alana - my granddaughter - was reading by 4 and read Green Eggs and Ham to her 4 year old kindergarten class one year and the 5 year old kindergarten the next year on Dr Seuss's birthday (March 1, I think)
metoometoometoo i could read and the teachers just patronized my parents and said, "a lot of parent THINK their kids can read but really they just have certain books memorized..."
The 2 year old has listened to his sister and also to shows on PBS and knows his alphabet and recognizes the lagnetic alphabet letters on my refrigerator
Reading is such an essential life skill. Kids were expected to know letters, numbers, colors, etc. before entering kindergarten. Now, parents just throw them in, sink or swim.
We have universal pre-K in New York state, and many kids go to Head Start, so most entering kindergartners know the alphabet...but the biggest problem is that kids have not been taught manners, respect and responsibility.
Luckily her teachers have encouraged her to read
Amen to that Scrabbler. I blame "incidental" parents.
Hurshy, we have talked before about the sad state of education of gifted kids.
At least in the elementary years, I mean.
Scrabs - that is so important to also learn. The two year old loves to say "you're welcome" and will wait for you to say thank you so he can say that
Home schooling is becoming more popular. Rightly so, I think.
Judi--parents are friends with their kids, not the teachers and leaders that they must be.
I see that too, Judi, and encourage parents to homeschool, particularly bright, ambitious kids, and then those kids just flourish!
as a teacher myself i knew that i could not be a "good" teacher for my own kids - provided them with lots of experiences, books everywhere, but did not have the extra patience with them that i did with other kids
I'm not a parent, but I work at a police station. I see the by-products of disconnected parents and disconnected children on a daily basis.
But you were a GREAT teacher for your kids, wv, because you enriched their learning and life
Amen to that! My sister is raising her grandson and I get so upset with her cause she lets him tell her what and when
So many parents create child-centered homes, and are afraid to "hurt their kid's feelings."
back, just read over the interesting chog. I, too, think reading is the most important skill, but although they tested me and put me into kindergarten at only 4 1/2, no one encouraged me to read early
They are doing more harm than good. Hence the term "entitlement generation". Teaching manners and self-sufficiency is critical. How else do you expect your child to survive in the real world?
Literacy is crucial to school success and life.
I worry most about the adult-centered homes where the adults are busy with thier work and their own entertainment - not involving their children, bringing their kids with them on their travels
Amen, Judi
when asked, in 1st grade, what was the most important word, I said "elephant"
we encouraged them to read by having books around the house, taking them to the library, but never actively thought about "teaching" them to read
I have no childeren of my own(lost a daughter in my earlier years) but Iam worried for her as hes becoming a teenager here in a couple of years. Iam afraid she wont be able to handle whats ahead
puglet--great resource = www.empoweringparents.com
thesre were books in the house and I was read to, but never thought to learn until I went to school
{{puglet}}
Yes, wv, there are many neglected kids due to self-absorbed parents.
Hi Ruby--see you got my e-mail--
Hi Ruby
I am sad to hear about your daughter, puglet
It's raining again! At least I got in an hour of weeding before it started
Kids have far too many electrical distractions now too. Television is bad enough, but smart phones, video games, Facebook, etc. I think they've really dumbed down the population.
it is incredibly cold and miserable out but at least i heard from my son, so I'm OK again
Yes, no limits are enforced.
thank you Scrabbler--I got five sisters and that gives me plenty of n&n
Iam so glad Ruby that you did
I would not like to be the parent of a Young child today. It is awful what they show on prime-time TV in France -- shocking even for adults
Parents need to think about what kind of adults they want to create, then put in the hard work to do so.
So true, Ruby. There's a lot less filtering of inappropriate material in all media.
it IS hard work to focus on the children and spend time doing things with them
I've been away from the US for a long time now, but can't imagine that it's could be as bad as here vis-Ã -vis nudity, violence and such
I do see parents and families that I greatly admire, and those sustain me in my pediatric practice. But they make up perhaps 20% of my families.
I cant get over the talk out of babies mouths now adays. I would never think to talk like that to my parents
that's true, puglet
Wimpy, spineless parents.
Not so much nudity, ruby. Violence is prevalent in TV & movies here.
here, it's explicit nudity even in trailers for films and at 8 in the evening
I for one, don't mind the nudity. *wink wink nudge nudge*
even the commercials are awful, talking about stuff that would be impossible to explain to a child
<--loves judi
It all depends on whats nude--lol---------Drugs plays alot in the roll of some families and young teens too
Hello everyone **slumps into deep chair for a bit of mindless Babble play**
{{lynxx}}
Hello Lyn
Drugs, alcohol. I think the biggest problem is parental indifference. People just expect schools to totally raise and educate their children. Huge mistake.
wow - then it is not just me getting old - I find I am switching of the TV more and more these days - I thought I was just getting old and more prudish
Scrabbler, I agree with you about spineless parents. When I was raising my kids I gave them total love but also total discipline. If I said "Do this or else" you could take "or else" to the bank...it was going to happen! They all now have degrees and good lives.
I think meth is a bigger problem in the US than here, but all the rest is probably the same
hiya mimi
Kids aren't puppies, for cripe sake. You can't just feed them then send them off for someone else to discipline and train.
I don't think the French are smart enough to cook it (but don't quote me)
Yes, ruby, meth is ruining so many lives here. It just baffles me why anyone would even try that poison.
Drugs are trendy here in the U.S. Meaning, popularity wains from high to high. Heroin is back in after years of almost non-existence.
perhaps it's a bigger problem in the cities here than I'm aware of, here in the country
"Bath salts" - which were neither for baths nor contained salt - were popular here. It was just some unknown chemical concoction that was cheap and easy to come by. The down side was that it caused halucinations and violent behavior.
Oops, I grabbed a section of the newspaper and wasn't here.
I dont understand the need to get high and take the chance to destroy your brain for life. Its as if they care so little for their lifes
bath salts????
and now I don my chef's hat
see you after dinner
Bath salts have since been banned in most states now.
*woof*
Did you see my post to you, Scrab?
Opiates are the big drugs here starting in middle school--hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc. Then kids switch to heroin because it's less expensive.
and I seen on tv that kids are snorting those smarties candies after crushing them and now they are seeing if they can swollow a tablespoon of cinnimon
Yes, Mimi. I am proud of you!
Yep. Prescription drugs are the biggest problem right now.
that is really interesting
Anyone have a clue for the last Su7, Su9 and Su8?
And cold/cough meds too--dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine--easy access.
yeah.. they have to save them for us.. their adults.. we need them more than them. :D
Oops. NM. It they just jumped out at me.
su7 keep it going and then other forms
I do understand the need to escape one's own mind and emotions...I had an issue with the codone family (clean now for 7 years) but experimenting with stuff in which there could easily be real poisons...that I don't understand.
The su- words are not jumping out at me yet.
Yeah. That stuff is crazy. I've always been afraid of anything other than marijuana. The other stuff is just too unpredictable.
It's not like you can hide being a meth addict-----shows all over your face with skin lesions.
I tried pot when I was younger--hated it--it made me throw up everytime--
Meth is HORRIBLE. I have seen 20-somethings with the teeth corroded right out of their heads.
I tried pot.. but I didn't inhale :D
I grew up in the 60's but never understood LSD...why would anyone want to intentionally hallucinate? I find that frightening.
LOL, Ruru. Suuuuuuure.
Iam hooked on tobacco and thats bad enough
tobacco is worse than heroin
I liked pot a bit in my early 20's...but it made me fall asleep and I didn't want the weight gain from having the munchies.
issei
Ive tried many times to quit and just havent done itYET
and a free clue from jan
TY, Jan, I didn't see that one yet
I see a lot of people using those vapor cigs now, puglet. Everyone swears by them.
Thanks, Jan.
{{ruru}} Yes, I read an article stating that nicotine is the most addictive substance known. I believe it...so many people want to stop and can't. I've never tried it and don't intend to......saw that addiction kill my father slowly and painfully.
I never even liked alcohol and never tried anything else.
scrabbler, as a doctor, please comment on this claim that tobacco is worse than heroin.
as far as addictioni hursh
Heroin is a truly awful dangerous drug
I don't know much about addictions, Hursh.
I do
well, i know a doctor who treats heroin addicts and from what HE has said, i am skeptical about this claim regarding tobacco.
I tell my patients to stay away from all of the bad stuff.
i could buy tobacco being more addictive than marijuana, sure. but heroin?
Some brains are predisposed to addictions. There are physiologic and psychological factors.
in take of cigarettes is often more frequent than heroin. it is harder to quit cigarettes than any other drug
this doctor i know says that heroin is like, sixty times better than sex at stimulating the pleasure centers of the brain.
Hurshy, just because something is considered "more addictive" does not mean it is more harmful necessarily. Nicotine takes a much longer time generally to harm you than heroin.
Ive thought about them Judi but just havent tried it out yet--dont want to fail again
since it SO STRONGLY stimulates your pleasure centers, that's what makes it SO ADDICTIVE.
Ultimately, addictions are behavior problems.
I would now doubt that doctor.. nothing stimulates my brain more than sex :D
Whether alcohol, food, sex, gambling, drugs, tobacco---behavior problems, lack of self-respect, lack of self-discipline.
http://tinyurl.com/dmpk7f
I have heard that kicking cigs is more difficult than kicking heroin. Something about nicotine staying in your body for along time. Whereas the heroin high gets used up and you start needing more and more to even maintain normalcy.
I agree that they start out as behavior issues but do then become physiological. That's when people do the drugs just to keep from being sick and aren't getting high anymore....I know about that.
*subscribes French television for Ruru*
*prescribes* rather.
there you go hurshy.. cigaretttes are the most harmful drugs on the planet
Just found the jo7/56...happy, happy!
I don't watch much TV judi...sorry
thanks for that article molly.. kind of proves my point
I found su6 but need help with the longer su- words, please.
*turns fan on in the smoke-filled PB* Looks like the cabana boys have gotten into the ganja again.
su 7 to hold longer
Thought I smelled brownies cooking.
*thinks Judi is a pothead * :D
TY, Ruru
a conservative pothead
Nah. I haven't smoked that stuff in decades. I wouldn't mind having a little stash to treat myself with tho.
In the brownies? lal
LOL... I knew that
Ha ha. Better to smoke the pot than drink the Kool Aid!
nobody is mentioning the elephant in the room
elephant?
What elephant?
Yes. Let's not have this intelligent discussion be hijacked by political overtones.
the addictive power of babble
oh
there aren't any support groups for babble yet hursh
Babble's not an addiction! It's...er...um...a way of life.
Should we consider it a harmless addiction?
When my computer crashed I thought about starting a support group for Google withdrawal.......
i once failed to show up at a calculus class i was supposed to be teaching because i was babbling, i don't think it's harmless.
lol. I think "harmless addiction" is an oxymoron.
HI I'm ru.. i'm a babble addict.. it started so innocently with smaller grids...
not here for just the puzzle but the people--I think this is the cure for all things-lol
I used to stay up late just to finish grids. Now I aim to pass halfway. I freed up lots of time.
Nah...no morons of any kind here!
LOL, ruru!
The small grids not longer produce a rush for you, right, Ru?
right
I am totally free of any pressure to finish grids. I enjoy getting the words I can and then just forget about it. Such an underachiever!
Ruru always thinks bigger is better. *smirk*
The 744 word grid and those who finished it. That weeded out the hard core addicts from those just dabbling in addiction.
that is true, has to be over 200 for there to be any sort of rush
Wow---744! Would love to have gotten into that one....and not finished!
bigger IS better judi.. always :D
I just knew you would say that, Ru!
Amen to that, ruru.....if memory serves........!
Pffth. Not according to my waistline. Bigger is blubber.
the i is pissing me off
I have zero from the right E
issue
have that one scrabs
Oops. You made me look at the i, Ru.
es6 & 7 fairly frequent babblets, i can't find any others yet
Off to the smokey PB with you, Scrabbs.
Eo5, and Eo6 x 2.
I need breakfast still, so I shall skip off to the PB.
ahhh more babbletiness thanks judi
TY, Judi
At 95/90 I have had enough of this grid. Time to eat, then do yard work and a hike in the park. Starting at 5 I am on call til Monday 0800. Grr, the 63-hour on-call weekend marathon.
ugh scrabs.. i couldn't take that
if you can INsist, why can't you OUTsist?
I gotta go too. Don't want any more reruns of Fatal Attraction.
Gotta go, too. BBL...hugs all around. Hang in there, Scrab!
By Sunday I lose my mind and patience.
fatal attraction?
oh
what oh, i don't get it
I think my bunny might be killed.
are you still here Ruby
Huzzah! Fireworks!
what??
Off I go to do some busy work. Going to the beach this weekend. See you kids MOnday! *POOF*
*poof*
i am so bewildered. i don't understand the fatal attraction thing, i'm worried about the bunny...
Iam with you on both
maybe the green bunny has to go
but scrabbler has REAL bunnies
in her house
she loves them
oh--I use to raise them too
they are her pets, they don't even have like, hutches, she has papers or whatever around the house for them to go on, and they snuggle with her in bed and stuff
I use to have a few in the house and they used a litterbox--much like a cat
so it is particularly worrisome
yeah maybe she has a litterbox. i forget.
It does sound so
sometimes they do fight
sigh.
well, i'm done.
ttfn.
is there a 8/9 combo?
yeah, the 9 is a past tense of a 7 and the 8 is the pl
I think Iam too--nothing is popping out at me any more
*sigh* I only have past tenses as 7s
from the catechism: God makes, preserves, and su8 us.
Thank you so much hurshy :)
you're welcome :)
to clarify: when hurshy says, "i'm done", it means "i've found all the words".
thnx hurshy
halfway, NBT nad NBS - time for a break
Congrats Hurshy - I thought you were just fed up!!
congrats hurshy

hi ruby!
I just had a large woodpecker eating sunflower seeds on the ground in front of my kitchen window for half an hour. I've never seen one on the ground before
unusual.. must have been hungry
standard pelated variety?
I looked in my American bird book and he is much more brilliant than a Hairy and larger.
lorena bobbit has seen one on the ground before :D
hi to ruru too
He had red on his head and Under his tail and variour bars and stripes of black and white
wow is all I can say!
wow?
or c'était magnifique
don't know my European birds, but am envious..
a pretty bird can always brighten a day
I'm a passive birdwatcher, we have a feeder in front of the window and feed them in the driveway
crosshair: that's what all Brit men say :)
I have seen about 30 new birds since we moved here -- maybe more, but I can't tell the sparros apart
haha sandbox
ah, to see a goldfinch perched at the top of a tree against a blue sky, the sun illuminating its brilliant yellow
am a long time bird nerd
no goldfinches here but I think the \"verdier" might be green finches
when I lived in NY state, sometimes a whole flock of goldfinches wouldland in the yard on their way someplace else
think i have told you all,we have a 7 mile long freshwater beach here.it is split up into 7 sections, beach #1-3 being the ones down by the main end where all the college kids liked to party.well about 5 years ago we all of a sudden had 3 pairs of an endangered piping plover decide to nest there9i am told there are 87 breeding pairs of this one world wide) so much to the annoyment of many,we have had beach 1-3 closed to the public ever since to allow the birds to nest for as many years as they care to come back for
lol,sandbox
does anybody else keep a life list?
aww, tis a sacrifice I know, but the plovers may survive bc of it
a life list?

I think I prefer cranberries with dark chocolate
Yes river..they are nice..i like yoghurt coated peanuts too :-)
My mother got me into them, Sprite..very yummy.
cranberries are very good for you... and dark chocolate in moderation as well :)
Yes i think they say it has to be 60% dark chocolate to get any benefits from it.
yes at least. We can get 85% here at the supermarket. Very tasty.
85% wow is that very bitter?
yes, bitter but in a good way. Still sweet too, since it is chocolate.
us 5, please?
nm - found it
Will have to look out for it...not usually a fan of very dark chocolate..but will give it a go..i normally prefer..belgium chocolate.
hehehe yes that is yummy too
buy very dark chocolate, melt it au bain marie, cut up a load of cranberries, pour chocolate out over cranberries in a serving tray or something like that, let cool and harden, break up in pieces. Yummy!

they clog u our emerg so badly with broken legs and wrists from december till the end of march that us locals end up driving to a hospital an hour away in another town for treatment
:( hope none of the locals get sick during the winter....
however, our bars, restaraunts and hotels do well while they are here as well as the resorts on the hills.
the bad scenario is that blue mountain villiage is almost a town unto itself, minus any gas stations of course and what happens is they pack all the booze and food they need for the entire week and once they get on the hill, they do not come down till it is time to go home,so other business suffer.it is a odd thing
if they stay in town and drive to the hill every day,you are ok,if they stay on the hill, you may as well close shop till they go home
you can't win for losing sometimes crossy, sorry at the library and when time is up yyou just get kicked out of the system and have to log in again.....then i have to get babble expert through my e-mail... it takes time
thinki would prefer they stay on the mountain... at least they are out of your hair...... but as you say, the local pubs etc. would suffer.. bbs

hi all. what time were sue and frank getting married today?
so5/14 pls
Sue said 7PM.
oh, so not yet
And she is CST, so that is an hour different than us, or "board time".
yep
And I have to go now, dinner is ready.
peri, so5 = noise
hi all!
am on my way out but hi sue and congratulations to you and frank !
((((Molly)))) thanks for the good wishes!
and thanks to you too, montreal!
couple of hours to go then ?
yes - Frank is taking a nap (he just got his pump off and is kind of worn out)
wedding is at 7 pm Babble time :-)
yes, it's 6:08 here -- well, best wishes to you two - take care "poof"
Hello uusue!! Frank will need his rest before the big doings!!
hi Jill! he will indeed :-)
(actually it will be pretty low key but today is usually the lowest point in his treatment cycle, just happened to be the best day for the wedding on everybody's schedule)
As you can see, we all are so very happy for you and Frank!!
that is so sweet of all of you!!
his oncology nurse gave us a big basket of herbs for the kitchen - also very sweet :-)
((((((Sue))))))). Have you got your 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue'?
hi soodle! hmmm, will have to think about that...
Hello. What am I hearing? Wedding bells? Oh, my favorite sound.
LOVE your icon soodle!!
I mean, I'm old, the rings are new, hmmm.
hi gmere!
Ah, Jilly. The sad bit is thats it's actually true!
It is for most of us on weekends!!
What a wonderful event. All my wishes for a wonderful life.
thank you, gmere!!
Quick, borrow something, and get something blue!! (i'm ridiculously supersticious)
I have some blue undies, and I'm sure we can borrow some matches from the minister when we light the candles, does that count?
Me too...I had most of it in one, my grandmother's necklace (leant to me by my aunt) that was 100 years old and blue!
Borrow a hankerchief from someone...
Now wait a minute. Birthday candles on a wedding cake? No. Borrow someones credit card for a night out.
Oh grandmere.. perfect thought!!
no, we're lighting a unity candle as part of the ceremony
Absolutely perfect, Sue!!! You go, Girl!!
so we each light our own candle, then use the two of them to light a single big one
we willl be borrowing candle holders for that...
Okay. Unity candles do make lovely sense and the symbolism is very touching.
Jilly, that was a lovely idea!
Oooh, I'm actually getting misty eyed for the pair of you Sue. Hugs and hugs and hugs!
thank you so much, soodle! I'm being kind of blase about it now but I'm sure when the time comes I will be all teary-eyed
Pics ASAP, please! You are such a handsome couple, I can't wait to see them.
also I just finished burning our CD, not sure if we'll play all three songs but we have When I'm 64, True Love Leaves No Traces, and The Songs of Wandering Aengus (words by Yeats)
and yes, everybody will have cell phones (all 6 of us) so I'm sure there will be lots of photos
Great songs uusue!
<---interupts wedding plans....!!FW!!
yay jill!
Congrats jlly!
Ah! An Irish element to the wedding. Now theres tears coming down my face. Snuffle. Well (sniff) done, Jill. :-)
Good night for now with best wishes for all.
Night G'mere.
What time are the nuptials, Sue?
And must toddle off .... happy evening events uusue!
Night, ((((Jilly))))
best wishes sue
** finito ** last word SE 6/21
yay wv!
sorry, son came around so I was off for a while
Well done, wv! If I had the energy, I'd do a pom pom toss for you!
soodle, wedding is in about an hour (7 pm Babble time)
I will be with you both in spirit!
thank you!! I think there will be a lot of virtual babblers there :-)
Each and every one wishing you both all you could wish for yourselves, Sue!
awwww...
Where is the ceremony taking place?
at the minister's house, she has a lovely garden
and it looks like the rain has passed us by
Oh, that sounds lovely. I'm so glad Its not at the hospital. May the sun shine on you both.
no, Frank is actually doing pretty well, so we see the hospital only in passing. If you ran into him on the street you wouldn't know he was sick.
Well, thats even better!! Less than an hour to go before he makes 'an honest woman of you'......as they say here! Lol
yes, we say that here too :-)
Sue, its past midnight here, & I'm heading off to bed. Once again, may I wish you both all the happiness in the world. Hearty congratulations, and I don't want to see you in the chat for at least a week!! I hope you will be 'otherwise engaged'!
night, soodle! And we won't have a honeymoon yet but we do have a very nice trip planned for later in the year
thank you so much for all the kind words and wishes!
(((((Sue n Frank))))))

lol,you know you are a hopeless addict when you give the time of your wedding and other hugely important life events in babble time:)))))
funny crossy:))
or wearing a second watch on your other wrist that is always in babble time so you can catch the flip
yikes
teehee
lol,i would end up an hour early for everything because i read the wrong watch
I don't wear a watch anymore. I did when I worked.
me either...just use my cell phone
I rely on my computer, microwave and TV.
lol, since i semi retired last year,i have no more need for my bedside alarm clock, but i keep it anyways.i just took a pair of pliers and ripped the alarm switch out of it
lol...all mine say a different time
computer and cell phone are the same...everthing else is a min or so off
then we got smart phone for the first time this year..now the darn thing can wake me up in all time zones on the planet;(((
my car clock has never been turned ahead for daylight savings time. Better for the brain.
teehee..so it's right 1/2 the year
I know it sounds crazy, but it works.
yes smores:)
my car is the same,i keep it on summer time:) if it is off by a hour in the winter,i do not care.:)
haha...always summer eh?
yupper, every week or so,i clean the dash with coppertone sp 40 so it smells like the beach
lol
Like your thinking, Crossy
spf
summer time...please fill in this song...if you are so inclined:)
and the livin' is easy...
you want to really run with the idea, get some clean sand for the people in the back.just put a few inches deep on the floorboard on each sidethen they can slip off their show and run their toes through the warm sand
love it Crossy. What a great idea!!!
shoes
That sounds like our car anyway!
thank-you smores!!
well, down under,it is always summer as far as we are concerned
was it livin or lovin?
Fish are jumpin and the cotton is high.
Brrr - down to 9 C last night! May not sound cold to you but houses here don't have central heating.
hehe,9 c and it is a nice spring day and if the sun is shining we have the windows flung open.liz;)
But on the other hand, temp now climbing to predicted high of 23 C today and the sun's shining - so I guess you're right, Crossy - never ending summer!
yup, anything 20c and above is swimming in the bay temperature
Water temp 22C according to the surf forecast today.
had to check heron...it's living
good enuff,liz;))
:)
lots of summertime songs though...but I love Ella :)
Funny though watching the surfers all in wet suits at that temp!
so liz...what kind of heat do you have? baseboard ?
on the other side of that coin however is the heat.once it gets over 32c i would say,i am cooked, done and heat rash from head to toe
Liz, are you at cold temps right now?
Rarely gets hotter than 30 - 33 C here.
II don't know what that means.
wish I did
well, that is not too bad then, liz
Just heading into winter but though it gets to single figures at night, days range from about 17 - low 20s in winter. 17 C is about 62 F and 30 C is about 86 F
have to convert it into cubits for our american friends hehe
Off to the op shop - or thrift shop in your terms! Looking for a jacket for my hubby.
lol
thank-you Liz.
Bye liz...enjoy...hope ya find what your looking for :)
BBL for the final 18 words.
I still haven't reached 1/2
and I JUST got to half way.... 93/92 Hi everyone!
Hi diane
wow!!
Hi smores
top row is grey...lol
hi blue :-)
isso is so a word :D
Hello Babblers, the last day at middle school > let my babbling begin.
Hey Christa :)
hi Christa
school's out already?
Oh yes. Here in Phoenix, AZ we go to school from August to mid May.
ah...gotta wrap up before the heat eh?
we still have 2 weeks left
You got that right. Just started with the 3 digit temperatures. Yesterday was a pleasant 103
ugh
omg
Heard I miss my favorite kind of grind ... over 300 words the other day.
103??!! just kill me
Is it really pleasant
I wouldn't know anything else. I am a native of Phoenix for the last fifty plus years.
my brother is in henderson NV and last summer he told me that they had a week or so where the day time high did not fall below 114 american!!
We spend some winter months in Casa Grande, Christa..... love it there !
NV has even drier heat than we do here in AZ
more power to you Christa.
Diane, we have the best fall, winter, & spring .. 6 months of 80 degrees.
except this past January.... LOL
winter yes...summer, don't think I could handle it
my ideal is 20c-70 f,with sun and a bit of breeze
Sometimes I think it is so hot not even the devil himself would want to live here ... lol
Crossy.. isn't Henderson right outside of Los Vegas?
it is indeed,christa
We've been down there 6 times now... our son built a home in Casa Grande. They go down in the summer,... you just stay where it's air conditioned, or by the pool. And if you want to golf, it HAS to be very early in the morning !!
I love my New England weather..If you don't like it, wait a minute.
:) same with Indiana heron
I like my Alberta weather too.... same thing blueheron !
Diane, couldn't of put it better. Anything after noonish until 10pm has to be indoors or by the pool.
Diane are you by chance a grandparent?
I"m actually a great grandparent !!
10 grandkids ... one great
Wonderful. So coming to Casa Grande has it added benefits for you.
wow
I have one grandchild and another on the way.
We do enjoy it... hubby loves to golf and so do I when my knees allow it. It's a lovely home and we settle right in for 3 or 4 months !
sounds wonderful
diane,
they are special , Blue !!
when is your new grandbaby due heron?
yes ?
ditto
I just wanted to know about your knee problems.
"jesus was not found in the dictionary"
arthritis in both of them...not quite ready for replacements. It's a big step and results not always perfect.
really?
looked in the wrong book ruru :)
try "Bethlehem", ruru :-)
definately a proper noun :)
I have only one option left for my knee, surgery.
finally reached 100...taking a break
I've had arthroscopic surgery on both of them but it only helps for so long. Cortisone helps but not a frequent option.
same here diane.
hey ru..would you like to pun for a few?
not really...laying low right now.
I'm trying to finish this stinker of a grid
"jesus" may not be in the dictionary, but a related word was (je6/7, my last words) - fireworks unaided
thanks gremlinn.... I didn't have those two !
ru, so you are out straight.
?? not sure what that means blue
laying low
ha!!
prone or supine
is there a word for "on your side"?
not sure :-)
wunderful...(sp)
oys
Ah, it's "semiprone". Wow, I thought maybe I remembered that word, and it turns to mean just that.
good for you !
Not a Babble word, though
enable dictionary is not normal.
I think we need a cultural movement - a movement to unify the dictionaries.
yes, I'm all for it!!
I'm not sure what enable is.... I've never used it.
Stands for "Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon" apparently
enable is the dictionary that Babble was created from.
:D we use it all the time diane
I see that it drives some people crazy, and I don't need that... :-)
May I please have a clue for mu8-50? Thanks
smores, do you really think that this source of information is ok?
not there yet, peach.
I didn't know that Blue. And I've been playing since 2005. Thank you and this why I love this game.
mu8 has a "most" ending
?? not following heron
Thanks much, gremlinn.
Hi everyone, Happy 17th/18th May
teehee diane... agree, although it is a short drive for me :)
Why? why the heck not!
Enable is just a list of words. It's not something you really "use" other than just being familiar with what's in it.
Thank you lickety.
Hey lickety :D
Hi Lickety
Thanks anyway, diane
And Babble's version of Enable is just a list that DrGod grabbed many years ago and hasn't updated, or altered since.
Hi LIckety. Thanks for putting the lists up every day for us slower ones
lol..yep...written by the ancient ones :)
Bugsaw: that icon is a triskelion. (Know because I looked up that word the other day.)
yes lickety...very much appreciated lickety :)
daughter calling ... brb
My pleasure - it was a big chunk of work I did for fun, and it's easy to keep going. Glad someone finds it helpful ;-)
someone? are you kidding me..? just about everyone lickety
OMG, do we ever, Lickety.
Only the best 200+ people on the internet ;-)
I probably would have given up Babble if your list wasn't available most days. Thanks!
I find it helpful, especially on days when I'm pressed for time... so thank you !!!
gremlinn, just curious. What made you look up the word triskellion? It doesn't come up in conversation very often
I was just popping in, gotta go - Selling my late father's car for my mother, and a potential buyer is knocking on the door.
Well, I knew it was a word (having seen it in a biology textbook) from a long time ago, and then it was almost in a grid on another Boggle site (I think only the S had to be moved over one tile). Got me curious what the general meaning was.
bye lickety
always good to know a new word that is accepted by Bable
Clathrin: a protein that forms a triskelion shape.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clathrin
neat. almost as good as a geodesic dome
Short version: those clathrin molecules bunch together to make little balls that are used to transport things in cells.
going to watch the hockey game with hubby.... be back later to finish !
I'm back :)
i used to roleplay online at a sci fi site....i served on the starship "Triskelion".... ;o)
much like my avatar...
teehee..nice pen :)
A confluence of incidences in the mix.
I recall when I was at Wikipedia that there was a Star Trek episode title with "Triskelion" in it.
yes, that is where they took the name for my ship
Ah, "The Gamesters of Triskelion"
With the eponymous iconography looming in the background image.
wow...got through the o's rather quickly...usually have trouble with them
May I please have a clue for se5-12? Thanks

Thanks anyway, smores.

Sorry, had to bring dogs in.
Could I get a clue for je6, please?
je 4 /5 - also a proper noun
That's the religious order, Marc.
Smores don't be misled by my proper noun comment. I only know that because I just looked up the meaning.
Thanks got it
yw
missing the last 2 jo's
Think knights' competitions
I have those
Or look to an o 4 word
Those are the last jo's
Perhaps just your last 2 jo words! I understand. Too literal!
lol..no I had a blond moment
That was like my singular moment - ...ies plural - thinking y for the singular! Wrong call.
thought I entered knights competitions and had entered the jo5/7 above it
unty is not a word
:D
Liz, I have the se5 to go with the os but I"m not doing something right. Is it o + dbl cons?
5 left
Yes, double consonant - lose the final letter
I'll have to come back to it, hon. Thanks
os 6 / 18 - double consonant then the first 3 of scientist of formula e = mc2
can i get a clue for the second ou 6/21 and the ou 7/32 please?
ou - 6 - right from the ou 6 (start)
I have it now, Liz....I was not putting the letters in order. Thanks much.
yw - couldn't think how to clue it easily.
It wasn't your clue, it was my slow brain. LOL
