hi all -- back from bridge and kitchen cleanup
hi
hi jilli
hi jilli, how did you do?
not very well, I think -- didn't place and might be in the cellar
scores aren't up yet
I noticed :-)
I'm off - early night for a change
goodnight all
night flosey
gnight flosey -- missed you at bridge
I'm half way done with Merle's Door Jilli..it's really a great book
oh, ruru -- I thought you'd forgotten about it!
it was on my read list.. I finally had time to start it on my trip
hi everyone
hi andree
glad you like it. I know it wasn't the thing to read just when you'd lost your old pal.
Sweet dreams flosey.
hi andree!
i know you are all not loving these small grids but for me its great as i have been away so long i am out of babble practice
no kidding jilli
i'm okay with small grids too andree
me too andree -- and where have you been?
I hardly ever finish any more -- just come for a bit of company with the gang and happy if I get halfway with nbt/nbs/nbg
jilli i have found now i am retired and not stuck in front of a computer all day that there is lots to do and see
that's great, andree
yesterday was bridge and today bushwalking group and tomorrow i will spend with my sister making jewellery
bridge? duplicate?
is bushwalking related to bushwhacking?
yes jill, and ru i do carry a stick so could do a little whacking if the fancy takes me
and i do come home whacked
there's a really good joke line ..i'm letting slip by with that one Andree :D
flosey and I do duplicate too -- Standard American. Do you use Acol like the Brits?
no mostly american standard, just started on transfers lately but never acol
please can someone clue the 8 and 9
am I just dense or is this a toughie?
ust got it ru so glad you are letting that slip by
beats me jenny
not me, jenny, sorry
we use transfers all the time, andree
never mind - i'll keep looking, it is certainly a toughie Jilli
and weak twos, limit raises... etc but "k i s s" (ruru -- don't get any ideas -- that means Keep It Simple, Stupid)
*blinks innocently*
;-)
ru i think you probably lost your innocent look years ago
yeah.. at thirteen
:D
an8/70 means a deficiency of oxygen in the arterial blood, (I had to look it up) and uses the high score letter
too right, andree -- I've actualy met him now :-)
thank you jenny
got them
plural for the 9
hmmm, jenny, I have an an6 like that
and 7 plural
there are 2 x an6 which are similar
night.. dylan wants to cuddle
so I see in Lickety...*thinking
gnight ru -- give him a scritch from Auntie Jilli
will do
jenny -- I met Dylan too -- what a sweetie!
morewords got me those an8 & 9 words for NBS -- but far from nbt
and it's bedtime -- early rising tomorrow and a ferry to catch so goodnight all...*poof

Morning, sprite. How are you today?
hi Sprite & Peach
Hi there, lynxxx.
hiya peach and lyn :) xxx Am fine, how about you?
Pretty good down here, Winter but not too cold
Doing OK, thanks, sprite. Had a dilly of a storm late this afternoon....all is quiet now though.
good to hear, from both of you. Spring is carefully setting in here, still cold but at least a bit of sun every now and again.
Good.
are you in that tornado belt Peach?
No, hon, the tornado belt is mainly through the middle states, i.e. Ok, Ks, Mo,
Tn. and ones on either sides of those states. They are limited to those, of course. We are 150 miles from the Atlintic coast....so by the time they get here it not unbearable, so far.
my knowledge of where the US states actually are is pretty bad - could probably correctly identify about 8
Meant to say, they aren't liminted to those states.
lets hope it stay that way - it seems a pretty bad season
The last bad storm was from hurricane Hugo....hit Savannah and Charleston and bent our trees double....I did get into the bathtub with the dogs and a heavy comforter to cover us. We were lucky.
that must be so scary
why a bathtub?
protection from flying debris?
It is supposed to be the safest place.....I guess because the pipes are underground and if we can hang onto them and actully if stuff falls down, we are protected by the sides of the tub.....of course the dogs go a little crazey
from fear.....which doesn't help.....I pray a lot.
I'd be so scared. Praying sounds like a plan.
I can't imagine
Well, m' dears, I just finished this one so Ithink I'll try to go to sleep. If any of you know how to break the Insomina
sweet dreams Peach - and congrats
pattern of sleep, please let me know.....If been fighting this for at least 10 years.
wtg peach! Insomnia is awful.
Bye for now.
phantom: sinew
lol, and of course I can't see anything else now
:) Sorry, works that way for me as well :)
but did get the si4.5 from that
ah good, not a total waste then
new word for the babble dictionary: eonice - pleasant for a very long time
I love your icon too
thank you :)
am gonna make breakfast. Have a lovely evening, lyn :)
some chores call - see you later Sprite. Enjoy your day
allo?
hi ruby - just getting started here
hello jbv
just got to half but no 8 or 9
how are you?
is it getting any warmer chez toi?
'allo to you too. {{ruby}}
not much but at least it isn't raining and there's wan sunlight
we've had a very weird spring - mostly cold through April ,some crazy blazing hot days in between, temperature swings of 40-50 degrees overnight
hi grannyrose
I read that it was the coldest, wettest spring in France in 30 years
but I don't complain about the rain - at least I don't have to go out and water the garden!
{{rosie}}
yes, I read that too - I read the Italian newspapers - same there - I think of you as being int he same "neighborhood" (relatively speaking) as my cousins in Piemonte
an8/9...an + abbreviation for what our bodies draw from the air + printers measure + 2 vowels, then plural
the problem here is, since we're on a rocky hillside with little topsoil after to days eithout rain, the garde starts to look parched
hey jbv
thanks for that clue, granny
we are one hour and a half from Aosta, via the Mont Blanc Tunnel
<-- still looking at the clue
but the mountains may affect the kind of weather they get - not sure how it works - he told me they had snow at the high elevations last week
here, too
wow
(I don't know exactly where Piemonte is; is Turin there?)
they are west of Turin - in Pinerolo
closer to you
yes Piemonte is the region - Torino is the capital
so one would take the other tunnel lol
the province/provincia
actually, one of his nieces works in France and commutes (every weekend) - what tunnel would that be?
how good is your Italian? The first time we went to Aosta, none of us knew any Italian and we struggled like crazy, only to discover that it's a French-speaking town
I've never been to Aosta - very interesting - my Italian was good, getting better all the time, I'd say I'm near-native now
I'm studying diligently
I am drawing a blank (blanc, lol) about tht tunnel. Getting old......
: )
we are writing, emailing, SKYPING very frequently - did you know I visited them last year?
that's terrific, jbv, although I'm relatively fluent in French and understand it very well, I have a NY accent in it because my first Fr teacher, when I was 11, was from the Bronx
I updated my profile
I know exactly what you mean - a very common and unfortunate experience for many
I was lucky - studied French and Spanish in HS with native teachers all the way through
my French would need a dusting 0ff - that's an understatement
however, bad as is the accent, I cn communicate with everyone and they don't eem to mind my "retrated aws" which is funny since my English isn't even regional, it is totally neutral
that's great
ooh, just got Rose's clue, ty madame rose
Frejus tunnel or Colle di Tenda (Col Tende) - I just looked it up
thank you, I've even been through it, duh
lol, np's ruby. glad i wasn't too obtuse for you. but then again...you are one clever chickee babe
: )
not very clever today!
How are your pooches, ruby - I think I've read that you had a loss recently and then a new adoption....
I talked my huband into selling our second car which had been accumulating dust in the garage and which we never use any more. I sold it yesterday to our local Sicilians from the restaurant, and he took care of all the paperwork, scrapes, transfer of title, etc.
those Sicilians get around, don't they? my cousins in Pinerolo are Sicilian - good idea about the car
we also have another cousin with an Italian restaurant in Germany!
Rafaella, our 5-month old baby, already weighs about 17 kg (huge), is a total charmer but not a great beauty, like all our other chows. Perhaps she'll get prettier. For the momentm our Italian boy, Ruffino, has turned into a magnificentm enormous gentleman, having changed a lot after Ruby's death
they sound wonderful
I don't have a pet but I imagine they are great company
and they love each other, which is most imortant
they recently escaped from what I thought was our totally secure garden and Rufie wound up on the median in the village, with cars zipping around him, having crossed 3 busy roads
good one on the sale of the car, ruby...
omg
Raffie, only went to the neighbor's yard
someone rescued him I guess
rufie I mean
yeah, ruby did....
we actually had a frank talk about the fact that we can no longer travel, omitting tht I am afraid to ride with him, and that it would save us a lot of money to get rid of that car
it makes perfect sense
good morning:))miracle of miracles for this grid.the 8 and 9 are dead easy:)) an 8 and 9= an + most of the word for poisions in the blood and use the high ponit tile;)) good start to the day.will celebrate with a nice cuppa tea:))
can you imagine this tiny little 'old' lady struggling with her chow through the traffic? the mind boggles...
I ould still travel, but can't leave either husband or dogs alone for more than an afternoon
that's a hard realization, ruby
ooh, crossy, make mine a green tea, please. how are you mate?
fortunately, my friend Joanne was visiting, and she is younger, bigger and stronger!
hi crossy
ruby did you know my name is also Joanne (spelled the same way?)
{{crossy}}

howdy jbv

husband's daughter is coming tomorrow for at least 10 days which should brighten the atmosphere around here
that's nice - where does she live?
and, since I paid for her ticket, she is bringing a whole shopping list of stuff
bad moi!
you put in an order - why not
she lives in Monlo Park CA
menlo
so what did you request - foods?
if your paying the freight, you should be able to order a few things
ruby, have a review appointment on thursday. am gonna ask for a referral back to my orthopaedic surgeon. spoke to him today, he's a 'tad' concerned that i have so much pain rotating my foot inwards.
silly things like canned pumpkin, Italian sausage, baby aspirin for Burt, chapstick, mayonnaise -- ridiculous, but when you order foods from Amazon, the postage costs much more than the stuff ordered
crossy, lol. not sure that you should refer to ruby's DIL as freight
is that a muscular problem or a nerve one, rose? How bad on a scale of 1 to 10?
lol, granny.was referring to the goodies and not to the daughter herself
ruby, when it happens, about an 8 out of 10. i think it's one of the ligaments...
ouch, but at least it's not a nerve pain
do different shoes help?
nerve pain int the feet and hands really, really suck.trust crossy
it happens mostly when i am driving. when i rotate my foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal
I have two friends with terrible nerve pain in their feet. Is that fibrmyalgia?
mine is side effect of chemo.permanant damage, but my da has if from diabetes
let's chip in and get a chauffeur for Rose
it may be, ruby...my FM is in the larger muscles, i.e. in my back. mind you i have some pretty gross cramps in my feet and hands.
{{crossy}}
poor granny:(((
good morning friends.

my husband gets terrible leg cramps when he forgets to constantly hydrate so I make him a cup of bouillon which works like a charm
every time you say 'cooee" i can hear it in my head:))
{{trif}}
me too crossy!
and bananas,lots of bananas
it is "charmante" as is Rose!
i drink a min of 8 litres of water a day for that and as well for never again in my life do i want to pee out kidney stones
ruby, have a chauffeur, it's just he is tied up with the non-stop demands of his mother. did that sound really negative? i didn't mean it to be.
he eats 2 or 3 bananas a day but I thin the effects of the bouillon are psychological
whatever works
if it works, then it is good medicine
Nurse Nellie
ahhh...crossy, vitacost, a company in the US of A have a marvellous product...magnesium malate. is fantastic for anything muscular.
i have broken my bones,i have been run over by a car,i have had enough chemo that i used to pray for death BUT i never,EVER want to pass kidney stones ever again! lol
ugh, I now have the jingle for a certain "pet" stuck in my head, thanks to the ch4.6
although I love this company, I need to lie down for a while. Big accomplishment of the morning was making 2 more jars of strawberry jam
magnesium malate. magnesium linked to an acid made from apples. makes it highly absorban\ble. my own mother only has to take one tablet, and it has cured mother mac's night cramps, which she has suffered from for over 50 years
mmmm,homemade jam
Naps rule ruby! Enjoy
bye ruby - enjoy your day

I will look for it in the pharmacy here but he probaby wouldn't take it

lol, trif....
gotta hand it to that whack a doodle brain of mine
my brain produced a dream in which an enterology specialist at my hospital, decided to arthroscope my elbow for pain, but the anaesthetist had a tantrum, stalked out, and i had to have the procedure under local anaesthetic. really weird!!!
too much work.you body is asking for full retirement on a nice tropical beach
wow, that is a corker rose!
somewhere where young cabana boys bring you warm lemon scented towels and tropical drinks all day

Is anybody else fed up with an entire week of tiny grids? I know it's "random" but can't Dr. God somehow intervene when it's this consistently awful? Does he read the chat?
There should be a way for him to instruct the computer to "randomly" pick a large or a small grid to give some variety.
OK---guess I'm the only one who feels this way. Gone til later.
Hi there, all you crazy kids!
I'm with you on the tiny grids, Mimi. I think I'm suffering from brain atrophy as a result.
♪ Hey Jude, don't make it bad ♫ take a small grid, and make it better ♪

On an exciting note - hubby's getting a new vehicle in the next couple of days.
What kind?
He's getting a Mazda CX-5.
Ooo, sporty
It is pretty sporty. I haven't driven it yet. Now we can ride around singing, "zoom, zoom, zoom".
Name that proper noun: Once popular soda.

That was a popular soda, but it's also an accepted word. The other one is just a proper noun.
Extra clue: Radar drank the grape flavor.

Hi Car!
Hello Scrabs!
should really blow your mind scrabbs and we will drive norht a hour or two into the muskoka area and get you kayaking thoughout the 30,000 islands area.you would jump ship and ask for asylum hehe
Hi Crossy!
car!!
I love paddling from one island to the next, stopping for a snack, to read, for a swim.
Last summer I came upon a cache on a tiny island in Lake Abanakee in the Adirondack Mountains. The cache was hidden for a geocacher. So I left a message in the journal.
and it is now time for crossy's tidbit of the day!!
geocashing sounds real interesting
When asked where he keeps his Oscars, Pixar's John Lasseter said, "We discovered that Barbie clothes actually fit pretty well."
LOL!!! Perfect!
Hahaha! Great!
Geocaching is really fun, Crossy!
We have done geocaching and letter boxes with the kids/scouts. VERY fun!
there we go..BLT'S on fresh cut crusty italian loaf with maple/hickory bacon, our very own tomatos fresh off the vine, some romaine lettuce and a splash of baconaise
Oh Crossy, I could walk to Canada for a taste of that. I shouldn't have looked at the chat!
lol,sorry patxx
but ,MY GOD IS IT GOOD!!:))
Don't be sorry. I now know what one of my final wishes will be...
nothing like your own fresh tomatos and not something that has been ripening on a truck for a week
When do you harvest tomatoes, Crossy? Here, in Zone 4, I pick some in August but most not til Sept or even Oct.
these are indoor hot house variety
so early pickings
oxiem
you are right on the others.not till sept
tomatos still warm from the sun elevate it to a even higher level but we must wait..:(
So sorry. Can't concentrate for thinking about your sandwich, which is really an understatement for such a worthy epicurial vision! Plus, I don't need the O4/5.
lol,patxx
Correct O4/4. I'd best give up and start walking!
plural of number before two?
i was born just 169 miles for where you live patxx in watford;))
It is O4/5. Hiking boots on. See what the smell of bacon can do!
we hope to be U.K hopping this fall if all things work as planned
hehe
Crossy, many years ago my father came to visit here and planted 24 beefsteak tomato plants for me and my family. We only got FOUR tomatoes....can't grow anything in this soil. And he even replaced all the soil with potting soil! I so LOVE homegrown tomatoes....
oh + 2 vowels. Can pluralize too.
that is so sad, mimi.all the nutrients just baked right out of the ground there i would imagine
Weather is lovely at the moment but when summer fully arrives, I suppose it will rain, rain and rain again.
lol, patxx as long as it is not minus 20,we do not care about rain;))
We have hard soil. But...I do have vine tomatoes coming in my grocery order this morning for that sammie I told you about yesterday and they are actually quite good.
You can plural O4/5????
oh5/12, yes
here atm it is sunny and a mild 11c

Don't even want to talk about how hot it's going to be here today...and, of course, no rain. Leaving for a bit...bbl. Hugs.
And I must get going--having an eye exam to make sure I have not developed glaucoma.
Although the incessant rain has stopped, it is still not getting warm. We are not quite up to 60F, very cold for June
But the flowers are starting to be lovely and i counted how many different plants and trees we have yesterday but stopped when I got to 120! And that's not counting the potager
I need sunshine! And the tomato plants are barely alive

We were in Lower Slaughter and Lwer Swell. Both very nice places
hello
is "queerplunger" in today's grid by any chance?
hi Harp
It can be muddy in the fields here, but we've had great weather
queerplunger?
a conversation from yesterday, ruru?
say, are you still in Montana?
And something Seain posted on Facebook.
oh
he + ***i skirts were a fashion fad + pl
I'm home.. had a wonderful time
hi all (-:
what were you doing? sorry jilly and I couldn't do a road trip.
TY aloy. :)
I did a wine event in Big Sky.. toured and visited Bozeman (visited my dog's sister).. and toured Yellowstone all over the place
yw Eva
cool, was my cousin or my sister there? lol?
"Visited my dog's sister"...: D : D
I don't know..met a lot of really nice people..learned how to fly fish a bit too
I have a cousin who sells wine in Marin & Napa. Do you know Grey Truex?
Could I get a clue for an8, please?
no I don't
condition of being without air or oxygen, Marc
an8 and 9 combo - a deficiency of oxygen
he used to work for diequa wine. I don't know what he does now.
Hi Aloy. Thanks for the he clues :)
Montana is like a beautiful prison. It's wonderful scenery but you have to have 4 jobs to live here!
and I'm off to get the mower going.. hagd all, poof
bye, Aloy. Take care.
yw Biltong, hi back.. ci4 for now
Thanks got it
yw, Marc
you mean Diagio?
That sounds like a country/western lyric Harp. : D
yeah.. all you need is Beer, boots, and cows
to make a country song that is
making up words now
"swino" a drunk pig
beer, boots, cows and heartbreak
exactly
and with that the bell rings and I'm off to lunch duty
and one last rodeo
and a pick up truck
:D
hi all
*looks for gun rack in truck*
did you get to Mormon Row near Jacksonville ru?
hello babblers :)
Hi Kate and all
hello all
help with 7's pls. I have an7
hi bichon and peri :)
Anyone have a hint for the an 8/9, pls
i just started, still trying to find the an 8/9 combo clued a while ago :(
deficiency of oxygen in arterial blood. I found it in my scrabble dictionary
something about without air (oxygen.. it myust start anox... but the 9 is the pl, so it can't use the s in the rooot
it starts like the an6/7 (using the high point tile) end like a blood disease
an + chemical abbreviation for what we breathe + the last four of iron deficient blood disorder
That's the word after the an 8/9
ah! thanks molly! and hi :)
I am tired and have a headache. did not sleep last night
35 left, bbl
feel better peri
for a country song you need open sky, bars, pickup trucks, old dogs named shep, mothers, prisions, cheating women/men rain, prisons ,trains and john prine warbling the whole thing
or steve goodman,or george jones:)
hi ya crossy, it was getting lonely in here :)
howdy ,kate:)) thought my chat was broken:))
another small grid, babblers don't stick around very long... or they "save it" for later ;)
i haven't seen BR in ages, is he okay?
he is using the name o-o now
ah, that's right... but i haven't seen that handle either.
or so i am told
saw him briefly yesterday
him and i often do not see eye to eye however,so i just let him be
well, i'm glad he's around somewhere. love his quick wit. sorry to hear that crossy
do you have the top left o grayed out? i need 1 x o 5 and 1 x o 6 for fw... stuck
i have oh 4/5 and oh 5/12 from that o
still missing 2
Crying vegetable.
we have the same ones then i guess
ty,zooz
perfect:))
yw :-)
and that should be fw for our kate;))
{{((zooz))}} my hero, thank you for the fireworks... why can i never see the veggie? that is the second time you have clued that to me recently7.....
Congrats, TK!
do not feel bad, kate,i never see it either
:) thanks to you and a few toughies clued when i first got on... i find it harder if the word goes in a complete circle, i guess i'm too "linear" ;)
words that start with vowels kill me
Getting lots of red boxes this end..and ages for words to enter..will try later.
have we heard form our wandering babbler today? hope bichon is having the good weather hold
mine's okay here zooz, will refreshing/reloading help?
it is ok here s well, but local isp issues can do that
thanks for the clues zooz, hope it cures itself soon!
call them once a month or so to reset your rounter from their end.it works wonder,or reset it at home if it has not been done in over 30 days
Tried that..still snail pace here...lovely weather here so, Bichon should be ok for trekking..bye for now.
just did that to mine 2 days ago
i was thinking of leaving in about 20 minutes if anyone wants stats/hints bye zooz :)
i still have to try and earn a few myself kate as i am a long way from the finish yet
i went to lickety as soon as i ground to a halt... went listless yesterday, and 70 little words took me forever! thank you lickety!
i also managed to finish yesterday.i hit the wall with ten to go and zooz and cosdem brough me over the finish line
nice to have such wonderful people to help out a fellow babbler in need ;)
we get by with a little help from our friends:))
<------ loves the beatles :))
as do i:))
can you imagine the royalties paul is still pulling in? must be staggering
couldn't even begin to imagine it, but didn't michael jackson buy some of their stuff?
yes,but i think it went back home after his death
ah, good! i was on fb very briefly a few days ago, there was a page for george that i liked :)
gonna have to start building an ark.... the rain is supposed to start tomorrow night and go right through until sunday sometime :(
tidbit: did you know that when J. M. Barrie wrote Peter Pan there was a stipulation that all profits from sales and all other royalties garnered by that book are to to to a childrens home/orphanage in the area where the author lived and the policy is still in effect today?
let me check our 4 day forcast...
wow! what a phillanthropist - such foresight.... i wonder how that came to pass?
do not know, kate.kwas just something my mind stored
your 5 day forcast till sunday, starting tomorrow is rain also
our
it is doing wonders for our trees and forests in this area though.everything is lush and verdant, sun is out today and you can almost hear the trees growing
I taught Barrie, Crossie, so knew that--and took a class to visit his village in Scotland.
here is a quote from wiki regarding his donations..
Barrie was made a baronet by George V in 1913, and a member of the Order of Merit in 1922. Before his death, he gave the rights to the Peter Pan works to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, which continues to benefit from them.
very nice indeed,roundbarn:))
was a hospital not a orphanage.my mistake
interesting.there a 6 peter pan statues made from the same mold as the one that is in kensington gardens and we have one here in canada as well:)
well you just never know what you will learn whilst babbling!
there is a company whose only job is to go where they are putting on Peter Pan, and setting up the equipment for flying.
lol, crossy gets sidetracked like that.last week it was all the info on the russian venera space program where they actually landed a rover and got 59 minutes of film before it failed
i saw that statue when i was there in 1999/2000! do you know where the canadian one is? hi roundbarn :)
it is in ST John's
hi, Kate, Crossy, and all.
that sounds like my knid of job :)
Afternoon Kiddies
howdy roundbarn:))
howdy,hego
hego !! :)
hiya Kate!
hope you are enjoying some nice weather too :)
wonderful today
little help kate? need a nudge for any word off the lower h
It's this grid I'm not enjoying.
I'll take that nudge Crossy.
have you been at it for long? i didn't find it too bad. investigating crossy, will look now
I have vowel phobia.
as do i
**** christian andersen + do as i **y, not as i do
ty kate
ok,got those 2,ty
same start + just change the vowel ending from the other word
yay. ty again
ty again,kete
he 5/14 male pronoun + first part of the babbler's name that likes to write stories using the words in the grid
then pl for th he 6/24
ty ,again;))
there we go,all greyed out:)) now i can play with some others
figured they were all nonsense words
ha 6/24 (diffferent one) insert an additional vowel after the a in the previously clued he... then pl for a ha 7/36'
0-o
got it..ty
bit of a latin taste in the middle of the word
babblers - phantom alert - do not try this at home! ocean winsome and axiom.
:) a latin tangle/tango
Good Afternoon, Everyone! How are you all on the cool, dreary day?
a latin virgin has one:)
it is bright sun and a beautiful 14c here atm;))
i will toss out a pair that gave me a lot of grief because they are all 1 point tiles... io 6/18 io + nil or no 4/4 then pl for io 7/28 hi nef :) crossy is being naghty agian, lol
nef is getting the weather that is headed our way tomorrow crossy , sorry nef!
poor nef:((
ty Kate!
and ty for that last clue, kate.did i ever tell you that you are my favorite? :)))
Hi Nef
we've all had more than our share of dreariness this spring/summer
{{((crossy))}} just don't tell mrs. crossy, or she won't let me come visit!
we had sunshine yesterday but it was cool; now today we are again lacking in the sunshine (I berlieve that the weatherman said we'd had somewhere around 74 days straight of no sunshine a couple of days ago
uh oh Crossy may get in trouble for that.........
i spend my life in troubble
lol,s hand shake on the b,s
; )
we were very cool yesterday as well, it has warmed up a lot in the last 2 hours here...
hi hego. How are you today?
good Nef, how about you?
(I'm waiting for the apple store to call me back for DH's one on one appointment.)
did he get a phone?
well, just crept over the halfway mark here.taking a break for a few and see if i can get my brother up on skype.he must be frying like an egg in NV today
i think technology has gone far too far... when you have to have in depth tutorials just to use your cell phone...
I'm doing fine. A little tired now but I was up and taking a class at 8 AM, so am allowing myself some R & R time
ttfn crossy :)
hego and TK, he didn't get a phone (but he'd bought very simple flip phone a month or 2 ago and it's broken already)
:( i've heard of engineered obselescense, but that's ridiculous... was it dropped?
I bought him an iPod for his b'day back in February and he still can't figure out how to use it. I've tried teaching him but maybe a stranger can teach him better (he has memory problems)
I like my iphone. I can read my Kindle books on it in a pinch and don't have shlep my Kindle everywhere.
who knows? I wondered out loud if he'd plugged it in backwards or something and got a very blank stare when I said that
poor thing
we can charge his phone, but it won't turn on afterwards. (I'm suspecting some sort of defect)
those plugs only go in one way i think nef, hope he gets it all straightenedout soon
TK, he's impatient at times and also has a lot of upper body strength. He's my jar opener, even when he's been quite ill
If my hubby died, I'd starve. I can't open anything.
if he is having memory problems, it's no wonder he's impatient... it would drive me nuts too. they do make a few different jar openers designed for elderly/ arthritic people... but it's nice to let him feel useful ;)
How would I get the wine out of the bottle?
lol... PUSH THE CORK IN.... no none gets between me and my wi 4/8 !!! ;)
most pharmacy mobility centres have aids for that sort of thing also, hego
oops PB for me.
LOL!! Me too! My daughter's old college roommate bought me a gift a couple of years ago: it's a huge jar opener but is too bulky to have sitting out all the time. I could use that if he dies.
good idea Kate. lol
they also make electric cork pullers that do a very good job... or you can drink plonk from a screw top bottle ;)
the screw tops are hard too. But I manage. lol
<---- reduced to drinking "plonk" from a box, as good wine is very expensive by the bottle...
I think that screw top bottles with narrow necks are the hardest things to open.
just don't try to push the screw top into the bottle ;0
hell,if it comes to it,just do what they do at wild parties with champagne and shear the top off with the edge of a butter knife ! lol
Kate, I love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Screwtop and very reasonable.
they can be tricky, sometimes therre aren't enough little cuts in the cap for it to give over easily... and if the bottle is sweating, you're in for it..
for screw top bottles, spend 8 dollars,go to the hardware store and ask for a pair of channel lock pliers, they would be perfect
aus and nz wines have become very expensive here hego, our dollars are almost on par... used to love to get aus reds like black opal... delish!
they open and lock for 1/2 inch to 2 inches for smaller set
here they are both reasonable Kate.
crossy always has a good idea!
aussie whites are big here atm
not a wine drinker however, giving me wine is like giving a pig a strawberry.ill be there all night asking when is the real booze coming?
black opal cab sauv used to be $13 a bottle, now it is up to $20 last i looked... beyond my price point except for a very special occassion i love the new world reds as well agree that the aussie whites can be very nice!
bad Crossy. tut tut
wine is what i drink and cook with while i wait for the booze to show up:))
I love them all.
why on earth would anyone give a pig a strawberry? i don't share berries if i don't have to...
hehe
me either Kate. : )
So many e's o's and n's....groan.....
i'll shoot you a few hego...
I was windering if anyone was going to comment on that strange analogy.
I'm finding it a tough grid
eo 4/4 ages and ages
working on n's now. Doing okay.
ea 4/4 facility
Hi PT
eons
got those Kate. ty
Hi RB
sorry
hi hego and all--sorry for carelessness
hi poodle :) eo 5/10 eo + a nono in the bible and add vowel for eo 6/18
sorry,it is a old analogy.means it is a waste, you could feed a pig strawberries all night but they want something more..substantial
ty,kate
Hmmm, interesting. I thought pigs would eat anything
in the states, the tiger gas station.. only the double letter is only single.. which is ex 4/9
I think Kate knew that Crossy. lol
well, she called it strange so was just checking.stole it from a herrit book actually
herriot
ex 6/36 add most of frozen water to the ex 4/9

a ni 4/5 babbler helps others over the finish line then make a recess in the wall by extending it by insertion of a consonant
n's done!!
ni 4/4 X - I =
and pl
inert gas (es) for the ne 4/4 and ne 5/10
ty again;))
i didn't like the proposal brought to me by an underling, so i ****d the plan ni 4/9
2 x na 4/4 bablets
at high no 4/4 they will hang him... they will throw the no 5/10 over the nearest tree limb and string him up
the onlookers will probably make a lot of no 5/10 when the deed is done
no 4/5 a town in alaska?
... or garaden denizen?
it is as plain as the n04/4 on your face
hehe, everyone is just sucking up the clues...
nil and nils for the no 4/4 and pl
NO ONE CAN STOP HER!!!!!
i must go soon, they are closing early here today... any last requesrts
not going to try..
lolol
;) the babbling police will come and take me away!
no ty Kate. :)
well, i hope everyone is well on their way now :)

thnx poodle
when our class went by herriot's place we figured we should hit a dog and get to go in, but then we figured we should hit a python then we could all go in, carrying it
lol RB
good stories.all the books.have them all on my reader.will have to give them another go soon
onxx upon a time my br-in-law read them aloud over Wis pibl radio on Chapter-a-Day
also hitchhiker guide to the galaxy, but you have to be in a certain mind frame for that one..insanity is a good place to be to start with;))
always felt bad for arthur dent
and marvin
nef, still here? my cousins aren't going to BE in Mlps when I'm there so trying to find a catless spot for my helper--he's allergic! I have a cat place in St Paul.

went to my profile at goodreads.com, started looking for more book titles to get when it suddenly dawned on me that i now have over 30 books already waiting for me and what the heck was i doing looking for more?? lol give it two weeks then i can start plucking more titles;)
(wonders if she should mention that she has 6,000 books . . . )

it was biabbed all over the bbc website about a week ago
i do NOT read the bbc website for just that reason. okay, cluing
gwen i rented a doctor who movie today atthe library

ty gwen,kazz and coz
wtg gwen! :)
i have heard many rumors over the years on who will be the next doctor. one time it was donald sutherland
i dont thin the doc should be a women - it wouldnt seem right
if he can get a new accent and lose 8 inches when he regenerates, anything is possible lol
hi lilliann
and cos
hi all btw :P
also checked out a sci-fi book so im being scifi geek cos today
hi cos :)
hmm still not convinced and hi all as well - only on tonight cos we are hols for a few days from tomorrow. Going to Bristol to see Reg D Hunter at Colston Hall - its a shame i cant really laugh without doubling up
well, i'm off to cook something, going to try to forget what was said about doctor who (!)
i watched dr who about a month ago with my daughter who use to be huge fan and had lots of things to do with the show but then she went off it when this one started and then watched it again but i can't get into it anymore.i loved it when i was grwoing up and then went off it as a teeanger.
i like the minor characters best on the show. (cassandra, the last human and harriet jones for example)
i was scared witless by it in the 60s - absolutle hated the cybermen and the daleks
the cybermen -- terrifying
i used to hide in my grans kitchen and eatch it thru a semi opaque window!!
anyway off to the codeine and paracetamol so i can get some sleep - might be on tomorrow for a bit
sorry, was off looking at something.hope the painkillers work kazz and sweet dreams
hi again everyone. We all love Dr Who here, even my grandson loves to watch it. I'm still scared by the daleck and the cybermen though, I have to leave the room when things get tense or I have nightmares about them.
... and it looks like I missed that congo by 10 minutes and everyone left.....
Hi Nef, I'm still here, but not a Dr. Who fan. : D
conversation is what I meant, not congo (having trouble with spell check lately
hi Molly
I thought you meant conga line : )
LOL
spell check wouldn't let me use the word "til" today, even when I told it I wanted til it kept printing tip!
scary when the machine thinks it knows better than you, nef... beware ; )
I know. I'm trying to "train" this mac to think like me (which might be dangerous, I know). DH bought me a brand NEW one in April for my b'day; first really new one I've had since our first computer back in 1992. We've had many, many "new to us" computers in between; but there are some new things I still don't know and am learning
mac laptop?
I have a wall at 35 left
nope, I got a Mac Mini desktop so it wouldn't walk off. It's 1 inch high, 7 inches square and has more memory and functions than the huge G5 (my last mac)
Should I admit to hitting a wall with double that number left?
a wall is a wall.... just like in real life, they seem to grow as you get closer...
true.
I see so many phantoms in this grid and I keep trying them over and over again.
I may step away a bit and return before I list.... usually clears my vision a bit
see ya nef
bye for now!
enjoy your mac... best computer ever
I'm going to do the same
Hello just starting and we are in the middle of a sunny, warm day here in the great Northwest.
Hello Gran Mere
Hi Molly. Haven't seen you lately but then I've not been on very consistently as of late.
In the nice weather I am outside more than in. : )
Good for you Molly it is the vitamin D that we lack here in the great Northwest.
I take supplements. Seems mine is low no matter how much sunshine I get. But then, it seems everyone's is low lately.
Maybe they test for vitamin D in the blood stream more now than a few years ago.
I think so.
Thyroid too. Seems like everyone I know has an under active thyroid.
Good afternoon....rough day, glad to put my feet up for a few minutes and will babble.
Rough day...*Pitches the lemon water and makes Jill a frosty gin & tonic*
Never saw so many ch words! Hi jilly. Shall I slice some lemon or lime to float in your tonic ale?
*glug, glug, glug* thank you molly!!
When I went to get blood drawn the other day I watched one whiny patient ruin the mood of everyone in the office staff.
We shall not be whiny and spoil our good attitudes. Hi Ho and all.
LOL...one patient can totally ruin my mood...
Hey, I'm very nice to medical staff. They are the ones with the needles. : O
hi to 3 lovely ladies:).am back from sorting mouthy teenager out.don't you just love em!!i still need 48 in this grid.it's very slow going today
I have that same thought...
This grid is not as intuitive as some others and perfectly great combinations of letters do not appear to be English. Do I secretly speak another language unbeknownst to me?
Some people talk in their sleep. Perhaps you speak in tongues in your sleep Gran Mere. : )
The Rat Race Trap: http://tinyurl.com/latsj4h
Perhaps, molly, here is the need for a taperecorder!
nbt/nbs...heading out for errands...feeling much better...thank you for your sympathy,support and G&T
well you know babble gmere.we have words from all over the place
bye jill, tc hin
So true lilliann. I am hoping your evening is quieting down. People can be unnerving even if it is family.
Yes, all over the place. Even L-land, as hi4 is in the grid. : D
duh, and i missed it molly, ty :D
i got the wi4 but missed that one.my head is not in this grid today
I'm getting really bored with the small ones.
well, it should be now gmere as she should be asleep
*tired*
i know what you mean molly.i wasnt a huge one to sink my teeth into
L, I always had to stay up an hour or two beyond my kids, just to feel like I had some "me" time.
she's just settled down and was half asleep ten minutes ago molly, that's what the argument was about as she went to bed at 9pm and was still walking about at 10.30pm
hi hursh
My youngest used to get like that if he was stressed about something. Usually a cup of chamomile tea would help him get to sleep. That was the high school years.
hi
i don't think she's stressed about anything, as she would tell me as she's tells me everything.it's just the usual bedtime thing with her, she doesn't want to go to bed so she goes on her phone, laptop and walks about 20 times saying she needs the loo.she doesn't think i know what she's getting upto being deaf but she's sadly mistaken as she should know by now as she's been caught out so many times
we have arguments about it every night.she also knows it's difficult for me to get up and down stairs all the time so thinks she can get away with it. what annoys me the most and is really beginning to get on my nerves is that she doesn't do it when her dad is here
"Experience has taught me that the less satisfying the narrative of the day has been, the more likely I am to be unable to let it go. My body keeps me awake until my mind has sculpted something more shapely from the day or I am able to distract it with a more engaging narrative borrowed from the pages of a book. The vigilance of the waking hours is over but so is the magic lantern of event. No matter how glad I am to sink into unconsciousness, this always feels like a loss. Children, who are in so many ways more fully alive than us, understand this intuitively, I think. It’s a rare child who volunteers to go to bed: they too need stories, borrowed narratives to persuade them away from the thrills and puzzles of their own day."
anyway, i don't want to talk about her anymore as i need some 'me time@ as you said molly
Hurshy, you have so wisely summed up the night experience! Thank you.
it's not me, it's a quote, but, it is just how i feel, and i thought, if it helps anyone understand how anyone feels about going to bed...
i think that is more true of younger children hursh.ialways read her stories and cutched up to every night.she can even read a book before she goes to sleep, i've told her that loads of times as i like to read a book before i go to sleep but she's watching things on her telephone or laptop which keeps her awake longer
i mean if you can identify what it's really about, it's easier to figure out what is helpful to do about it.
"The narrative of the day"...self talk. Whether self talk is positive or negative makes a huge difference in the quality of your life.
it's still true for me lilli, and i think that teens just don't always know that narrative is what they are looking for - just that they don't feel satisfied with the day, thus don't want it to end, want to pull something better from it. but if you can get them to see maybe what it is that they want...
course i know talking to teens and getting them to believe anything is a tall order.
aye, what you are saying is true but she just wants to be up with me or her dad when he is here which is great but she has to learn that there is a cut off period and that is bedtime and as i said i don't mind her going to bed and having a half an hour of relax time, but to teenagers it's tv, games etc
What time does she get up in the morning L? Perhaps her bed time is too early?
6.20am
do you think 9pm is early for a 13 year old?i tell her to go to bed at nine knowing that it will be 9.30pm before she gets into it and 10pm before she actually goes to sleep.she's always needed atleast 9 hrs and if she doesn't get it then she gets more grouchy and then i get more arguments
Also, sometimes people with a high metabolism have a hard time unwinding and falling asleep.
i've always had trouble sleeping so i suppose she could take after me but with school, i don't want her sleeping in and being to knackered for school as she loves it
melatonin... valerian... warm bath 1 hr before bed...
When my kids were in high school (grades 9-12) they were up at 6 and out the door by 7. They usually went to bed around 10PM.
i don't know what melatonin and valerian is, but she has a warm bath every night and is in in for about an hour and she has a lavender spray in her room which goes off every half hour
she's out the door by 7.30am.she gets up earlier because she gets sidetracked by things....normally the computor!
melatonin is just a thing that you naturally have in your body but you can take extra supplement and it can help you fall asleep. valerian is an herb that is also supposed to help you sleep. it's available on its own or, if you buy sleepytime extra tea from celestial seasonings, it's in that.
us insomnia peeps know all the tips
the thing is, she's never admitted that she is tired since she was little and will go on just to prove the point, but i do have loads of herbal teas but she doesn't drink them.i sometimes give her a hot chocolate.i think she's just like me with sleeping and also stubborn(don't know where she gets it from)!
i've tried all sorts hursh, but they don't seem to work for me
yeah same here, lol
they only seem to work for people with minor trouble
but i just got put on topamax recently for migraines and i feel like i've been sleeping much better since then!
when i could, when i couldn't sleep, i'd just re-paint rooms at night as it was relaxing.even after 15 hour shifts at work, i'd paint a room and then sleep for an hour and go back to work for another 12 hours
glad to hear it hursh, apart from the migraines.i only suffer about 1 a year now since my hysterectomy.that seemed to help mine
Just goes to show how different people are. Painting is the most un-relaxing thing I can think of. I get stressed just thinking about painting.
the paint companies loved me and i don't know how many times i re-painted walls, but it was good for me. i can't do it now.i can only reach half a wall so it wouldn't look good...lol plus i get dizzy doing it....ooh, pehaps i should do a few walls, i could end up with walls like picasso :)
well the topamax does seem to be doing a good job preventing the migraines also!
uhoh
sunburn on back of neck :(
let's hope it lasts hursh
the topamax not the sunburn :)
what helps you relax molly?
A hot bath. Also, the more time I spend in fresh air, the better I sleep.
i got alittle bit on the front of my kneck today when the bairn pushed me to a shop, bless her, saying that, that was after an hours worth of whining that she had nowt to wear as nothing fitted her
yes, i must admit molly, when we go on holiday and i'm outside, even if i am lying down it makes me more tired than being at home and i do like a hot bubble bath
io 6, please?
The best sleep I get is when I'm at the beach. Sea air is like a narcotic for me.
io + Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were **** "
actually, i could do with a holiday and spend some time with the bairn out of the house and actually see husband
i love the beach, but it's harder to get on now so we end up by a pool and hubby and the bairn go into the sea
ty molly
It's been a long time since I've been able to afford to take a vacation. I miss that.
ty molly
hi nan

wtg nan! sounds lovely.tc
hi pat.you need to find atleast 4 letter words
Pat...go to the Babblers
there are 115 words to find and in the boxes below the grid tells you the first letter of each word to find
oops..Babblers Anonymous link under Friends of Babble on this page for a good explanation of the game
tabbycat is right, go to babblers anonymous and it tells you everyhting
thanks everyone
Oops...again. I just tried that and it didn't work.
yw pat.you can always ask questions and we will help
The HELP button above chat explains the rules.
Thanks, Molly...been so long since I've checked, I forgot about that.
so it does molly. i've never clicked it on it
hi all
hi peri
Angelsong's Babble page used to be great help, but it doesn't work anymore.
How are you feeling, Peri?
better I took a nap
have you not been well peri?
It's great how a nap can recharge your battery.
I did notsleep last night
well, i hope you feel more with it now :)
I do, thanks
glad to hear it
hi all!
hi sue
hi peri, lilli, molly!
Hi Sue. How is Frank doing? Are you still planning your summer travels?
pat, i hope you read molly's chat at 6.33 to go to help above the chat and can get some idea of how to play the game. you can also ask for clues on the chat
hi sue:)
Frank is ok, Molly, he has his last treatment tomorrow and is looking forward to getting free of the side effects. Summer travel maybe in July or August - we haven't made actual plans yet.
We are both getting anxious about his next scan (in 3-4 weeks) as that will tell us whether the chemo has actually worked or not...
Well, here's hoping you two get a chance to get away together. And I am confident that the next scan will produce great results.
I sure hope so, Molly!
glad to hear about frank's last treatment sue and fingers crossed that everyhting is good. i'm sure it will be
And in any case I will be back to being really retired at the end of the month, and am looking forward to that!
ditto what molly and lil said
fw bye for now
wtg pwri! tc
*peri
yay peri!
you're actually properly retiring this time sue? :)
Really retired...I love it. I'm hearing munchkins singing now. Really most sincerely retired. : D
that's the plan, lilli! And the state is changing the rules on hiring retirees so they really can't call me back much anyway :-)
i'm loving the munchkins molly :D
well, it will be good for you and frank to have some proper 1:1 time away from hospitals.i really hope all goes well for you both :)
thanks, lilli! I will keep you all posted, of course!
why are they changing the rules sue, or what are they changing them too?
please do :)
they are limiting the time you can work after retirement for the same agency from which you retired, to a total of 18 weeks. I'm not sure exactly why.
No kid at home, in the nice new home, no need to work, good income... ♪ Everything's coming up roses ♫ (My attempt to stay positive)
Of course, they can't stop me working somewhere else, or doing freelance work, which I will continue to do at some level.
ahh, so you could go and work somewhere else
ditto
Indeed, molly (although the kid is in fact moving back home)
I could, lilli, but don't really want to
Oh crap. The boomerang thing.
i don't blame you sue
well, it will, as he's pointed out, save me money...
Save you money?
that's a good one!! lol
he was living in a frat house, which cost about $5000 per year, so I wouldn't have to be paying that any more
he is still a full-time student at the university I am trying to retire from
How is the girlfriend situation? Is that going to be a problem?
oh well, then you will be saving money.how much longer does he have there sue?
he has a new one who is very nice, very ambitious and earns a lot of money, so that is good (talking about the girlfriend here)
he has about two years left, lilli
Oh great. I thought he was still with the bunny boiler.
no, she is, thank goodness, history
Yay!!!
glad he has a lovely girlfriend and i hope all goes well for his next 2 years of study
thanks, lilli! His first two years have taken him about 3 years to get done but I think he is getting himself together finally
what is he studying sue?
electrical engineering, with a biomedical engineering emphasis
greetings
well hopefully with his new ambitious girlfriend, she'll help and keep him on track
brb
last semester he took 5 engineering classes and passed them all, which is very good!
Yes, she is good for him.
good prospects at the end sue but way over my head :)
Hi, cos! And bye - that was quick!

that's our molly
just wanted to tell her there's a new stephen king movie being mad that hasnt yet been made into a movie. its based on a short story he wrote called "Gramma" about an evil witch
That's our Molly
That was already on Amazing Stories back in the day. And it scared the crap out of my kids at the time.
i'm not really into stephen king.some are ok but not my thing
she's like a genie..just appears :)
Har dee har L, I was editing some photos for a clients web site. : D

I was wrong, it was on The New Twilight Zone. I think you can watch it on YouTube.
oh ok ill google itin a bit thanks
get on and work woman :P
can i just ask...is there a difference betwen :) :D :P ?

Barrett Oliver from The Never Ending Story plays the kid.
: D is a smile...: P is sticking your tongue out at someone.
oh no thats tales from the darkside
or creepshow.. one of the either
and what is :)?
or it should be :-)
: D : D : D at your icon Cos. I really can't stand the Gangnam guy.
lol me too.. but this icon makes me laugh
It made me laugh too.
finally saw the hobbit the other day
i didn't know the P was stick out tongue.you've done it to me loads of times ...pfffttt :P
i like your icon too cos and it is sooo true
I still haven't seen The Hobbit. Did you like it?
it was.. idk.. i heard if u liked the book ud like the movie.. i didnt read the book yet but the movie was good.. because i knew it was just part of a trilogy..
lilli- do you mean spongebob icon or gandalf icon?
sponge bob
i can't see a gandalf one
ahhh because i just uploaded it and expert is being stupid again lol
if you click on it you should be able to see gandalf
Now I want to see the Dancing Gandalf Style video. : D
i'll refresh
no, still sponge bob
hmmmmm lemme see
thats odd
You guys need to get out of expert.
i read the book "The Hobbit" years ago but can't remember much
you know that gangham style dude? just replace his face with gandalf, and the caption says gandalf style
no, still spongebob
lol molly i ddnt use expert yesterday and i fnished the grid too :)
ahh ok :)
so im pissed off at our library today
I get an email saying one book I had on reserve is ready to pick up. I go all the way there and pick it up. I get home. There. Another email saying a dvd I have on reserve is ready to pick up.
lol, that's about right.our libraries are the same
i reserved the muppet show and i was wanting to see it tonight too. but i cant walk 4 more miles today i already walked 4 lol
i must admit, i tend to get more books on my kindle as it is alot easier for me but i do miss going to the library
2 miles there, 2 miles back. its a nice day so i didnt want to waste 70 cents on a bus
some of our big libraries do dvd's but not the small ones
I usually just get movies at the library now. Free to check out....
well, atleast you got some sun and excercise cos :D
new releases - 3 days (2 day grace so 5 days really) and regular 7 days (9 days with grace)
yes very true. i m getting a tan lol
help with the ax4 please
and i live in a village so our small libraries don't do them
sorry cos, i don't have either ax's
ah.. i wonder if someday you'll be able to check out movies on your tablet from the library
ax on not off
how hard is it to find an ax4 word ugh
a thanks lilli.. thought i tried that!
ax4 + most of cold water for the ax6
it would be good and keep the libraries going as so many are closing down now because of kindles and amazon etc
ty cos
and tablets
our library wants us to contact big name authors like s king and j grisham etc to convicne them to allow us to checkk their books out on our kindles/nook/etc
right now only "small" authors books
i don't think our libraries do that
I am very sad that the use of e-readers is closing book stores and libraries. : (
and our branch is a small one.. so if I want a good book I have to either go downtown and find a copy or put it on reserve and wait weeks for them to deliver to our branch
I have like 30 items on reserve lol...and been waiting a while for them
i know my daughter can go into a library in the city and can get wii games and it is also a university library but everyone can use it, but i've never heard of uploading books on to e-readers
Greetings!! Sorry to interrupt. I usually just lurk and eaves drop on the conversations but I am wondering if anyone can update me on MrP. I have not seen her on here in quite awhile and I have been concerned because I know she has endured quite a bit of illness?
Last I heard Mr. P is fine and engaged.
lemme check her facebook profile
she posted last on May 12th.
she may have another profile but seems she is doing ok
I did not know that she and Lickety had split. My goodness. I guess that is why he did not include how she is in our last email "conversation."
i am too molly. i love my local library but i can't always get there and have ordered books but then not been able to pick them up so they get sent back and i still get charged, which doesn't bother me so much apart from the dirty looks from a librarian when i get there to pay them.plus an e-reader is lighter and easier for me to hold and i can prop it up in bed which i can't do with a book.but i will never get rid of my books
Thanks for the info. I am really relieve to know that she is not sick!!
Good L, don't get rid of your books. They are becoming obsolete.
mrp's engaged?i don't go on fb much now, so have no idea
molly, the bairn still goes to the library alot and gets books, and she has loads that i bought her when she was little that are in really good nick so i've boced them up for my grand children...saying that they won't be reading books then, will they
if i get any
If I get lucky enough to have grandchildren, they will be reading real books. I have a collection saved up for them.
I keep buying copies of books at the thrift store and saving them
every book I have on the kindle I also have a hard copy of
i love books and the feel of the pages but they are just too heavy for me now and not easy to read when lying down. i feel very sorry for book shop owners now as it has to be very hard on them with e- readers
an8/9?
Not to mention authors whose books are getting hijacked and traded without the author getting any royalties.
i loved the film "You've Got Mail" when megan ryan would read stories in her book shop, it reminds me of our local library
Nothing will ever replace Story Hour with someone reading from a real book.
not even teddy ruxpin? :)
I had a teddy ruxpin but it was worthless to me lol
I was going to ask you cos (hey all) how you got story time as a child? I loved being read to, and following the words in the book... But you had something else.
an and a card board b**, a girls name **ily and
a twisty, strange grid, methinks!
someone signed the story..
thanks for the 8, lillian!
ah, I wondered if that was how they did it. :-) I love watching stories being told in sign... don't understand a lot, but it sure is interesting!
hello, all
hey TO
sorry if I seem a bit stupid, cos, I have just finished day 2 with 2nd graders who, while lovely people, are quite exhausting to teach!
I think its a little more exciting that way because its easier for a child to imagine a picture that way
oops, sorry, hadn't finished shirl, an and carboard b**, girls name**ily and 2 vowels
hi stid and TO :)
Hi all, signed stories are wonderful
true -- it's almost like watching a play, sometimes. :-)
hey lilliann! how does your garden grow?
hey LBD!!!!!
hi stid, hi cheeky
Good point Cos. My Dad wrote stories that had no illustrations and I imagined all the pictures that went with them.
it is such a shame molly, but it is now electronic world. hopefully alot of these authors and shops can get into it
Hiya, stiddy, surviving surviving
Surviving elementary grades I'd a great feat
Have I mentioned how much I hate auto correct?
hi again all!
Hi HI
feeling a bit thick tonight, listing when barely half way through
LOL LBD -- I make that comment several times a day...
hey sue! ((hugs))
hi stid!
Tom just came home... it's hot, relatively humid, and we are all beat!
hello, sue
Hi uu
evening all
hi TO! and jes and lbd!
hi jess
Hi jes
hey jes!
i didn't know about you cos, can you lip read aswell?
have you still got your dad's stories molly?
how goes things?
hi lbd and jes
what kind of so is in your profile, jess?
so? if you mean the dog, TO, he's a Fila Braziliera mastiff
actually cos, that'll be a stupid question, sorry, i can lip read and know some sign :)
oh my? how did you come by him?
but do you sign in Geordie, lilliann? *wicked mama look* (I saw a short video on what Geordie sounds like...)
the usual - he's too broken for a normal person to want :) bilateral elbow dysplasia, which has caused significant arthritis (he's only 10 months old), and myasthenia gravis as well. prior owner couldn't physically deal with a 115# dog with mobility issues
wow, jes, that is quite a set of challenges for that pup!
oh jes, how sad... poor little guy.
really. one would think the breeder would take him
He's had surgery on one elbow, scheduled for the other later this week, and the myasthenia gravis is managing spectacularly with medication
the breeder is who i got him from, TO
ah, when you said owner breeder did not coem to mind. so it was that or put him down. aren't dysplasias hereditary?
I keep telling her to switch to Boston Terriers or something small enough for her to handle, but she likes the mastiffs...
yeah, elbow dysplasia is very hereditary. Luckily, we spayed mom when Little John was born (C-section) and dad I think is dead, but I'm not clear on that.
what about the myasthenia? is that genetic, too?
not liking this grid. not liking it at all. just started
probably, stid, but it's a weird disease.
LOL stid. if i did, no-one would know what i was signing :D
this is why I am listing just past halfway, TO - not a friendly grid!
my eyes are closing, feel tired to my bones
so, will you keep him now then jes or try and rehome him?
I wish I could meet you in person, lilliann! We could talk plants and you could teach me Geordie and I could really confuse people!
Trying to rehome him after his next surgery, but he's a hard sort to place.
it's a real shame jes.what if you can't rehome him and is therre a time period for that?
ha, fireworks! Yay for lickety and morewords!
wtg sue!
Depends on my husband's tolerance, I guess. I would just as soon keep him, but Bruce doesn't like the slobber.
yay sue!
Hi Lillian.
would love to meet up with you stid. maybe one dayand yes i could teach you words to confuse people :)
how mbig will he get?
<---Doesn't blame Bruce for not liking slobber
aww, but i can understand. i love dogs but don't like slobbery dogs.well, hopefully someone has the time and love to keep a dog like him.
About 125 pounds, probably
height?
FINALLY NBT....
so, is his mobility going to get alot worse?
yay!wtg sue!! :)
yay stid!
That's a big dog to lift if he starts to have trouble, jes... I wish I could promise to give him a home, but with my hips... *picturing dog collapsed on top of me after trying to lift him*
his shoulder is about waist-high on me. Easy to rest my hand on his back when we're walking.
hah! he's not having any collapse issues since I got his MG drugs regulated, Stid. But yeah, that was exactly the issue before - I can handle a little bit of heaving around, the prior owner has bad knees and a bad shoulder... hard to shove a soggy dog around with that :)
he could sit on my mobility scooter on long walks and the bairn could control it whist towing me behind:)
anyone have an/9?
back soon
That big dog/scooter visualization is freaking me out. : O
whoops forgot I was in here
jes, there are actually dog walkers aren't there. i know it won't be any good for little john, but i'm sure i've seen them on tv for little dogs and they have wheels and help them get around, is that right?
welcome back, cos :)
an 9 is the plural of an 8 just before it...
an9 is like not having enough iron in your blood, with some air (or at least an element in the air) in the middle of it - that's the an8, plural for the 9. Uses the high-point tile.
there are several companies making mobility carts for dogs, both front leg and hind leg, yes
i have the ansixes beofre and aft of them
what do you think of them jes?
the main drawback is that you still have to lift the dog into them... so for giant breed dogs, they have potential but certainly some draw backs. for smaller and medium sized dogs I think they're great.
if you have the an6/33, add Dorothy's aunt (from the Wizard of Oz) in the middle for the an8
molly, i'd love a dog, but unless it could walk next to my scooter, it wouldn't be worth it, plus i can't get out of the house alot so it's not fair on a dog, even though the bairn keeps pleading with me. i have my cat ans she's scared of dogs and she's alot easier to look after for me
like the skin cream that contains eucalyptus oil?
almost, TO
except it ends in two vowels
think lack of oxygen (almost all the word) + the end of lacking iron in the blood
must ponder. and must make brownies.
they are odd words
means a deficiency of oxygen in the blood (which almost sort of makes sense when you get them)
clue for ha 7/36 please?....note that I do NOT have the word before if it is a combo....
don't have it sorry pen and hi
got them. no loner need to make brownies for frustration. now will make them for celebration. :P
if you have the ha4/4, add not out for the ha6, then plural for the 7
yay TO!
there is also an he5/6 combo that is the same except without the a
got them...thanks....
thanks...got those too!
ty sue
yw!
down to six but it has been slow going...
i am watching an old tyrone power/ myrna loy movie. she is dying of cholera and she looks stunning.
I think big dogs belong in a home on a couple of acres where they can get the exercise they need. I feel bad when I see people in apartment complexes walking big dogs.
Feel bad for the dog that is.
Myran Loy...one of the most stunning women in Hollywood.
but not all big dogs need alot of excercise molly. for some big dogs it's worse for them as they will get and suffer from arthritis
she was. and what an actress.
i need to ggogle her TO
I didn't know that L. Just seems a shame to keep a big dog cooped up in a small living space.
thin man movies. i Loooooooooooooove robert powell
aye, there are some big breeds that alot of excerise isn't good for.jes, will be able to tell you more than me. i just know when i've seen loads of dog programmes
do you mean william powell, TO?
well, alot of them will just be happy to lie on the floor where ever they are and sleep
are these a combo?....ni5,10 ni6,18
i do, sorry, i am just exhaisted tonight, pardon me
no problem...i like him, too....and the thin man movies...such class!
Actually, one of the best ways to avoid arthritis is to keep them in shape and get regular exercise, no matter the size of the dog.
thin man... myrna loy... ASTA!!!!
*sigh* I miss my dog. He was starting to have mobility issues, too.
big hugs for ((stid))
6 left, break time.
Looking for a home for a 6 month old heeler/border collie mix too, if that's more your speed, stid :)
no known medical issues
i've seen programmes here and on the US telly with vets and they say certain breeds shouldn't have loads of excercise as it's bad for their legs
three left....can't seem to find them... :o|
there is appropriate exercise for all dogs, lilliann. there is not a single breed of dog I know of that would be better off with no exercise, but obviously you don't expect to see many bulldogs in agility trials.
i do think all dogs should have excercise, no matter what the size. i've had all differnet sizes and they've always had good walks
lol. no i couldn't see a bull dog in one.i think they're cute but slobbery
io6/7 clue pls?
we had a border collie, she was beautiful and very loving dogs
io and not empty TO
w! ty all
io + opposite of all....
any clues for ni5,10 ni6,18?
i meant not empty
YAy.wtg TO! :)
yay TO!
ni and french for not yes and pl
or ni on opposite of off
still trying to figure that out....
got them....thanks...
done!....thanks for the help!
yay penquis!
yay!wtg pen!! :)
ty ty...;oD
i would love a smaller dog, jes (sorry was talking to Grant... ) but right now no place to put it. *sigh* And I will never again have a dog unless I have a fenced yard to put it in when I am not home...
YAY penquis!
Still, I hope the little guy finds a home, with kids who love to play with him.
** finito ** last word WH 6/33
no worries, stiddy, i wouldn't actually expect you to take on a new dog before you have your house rebuilt
fortunately, our home is in the country, and an acre is a substantial piece of ground, so "walking" a dog is not essential. We stand on the back porch and toss things for it to chase... :-)
hey teach!
he is actually scared of kids...
wtg teach :)
oh oh... that's too bad. makes it harder to place him, yes?
yeah, as if he didn't have enough issues, right?
aww, at 6months?? what a shame
no, 2 different dogs, lillian. mastiff is 10 months, scared of kids. heeler/border collie is 6 months.
Jes, is it safe to leave a dog outside in a fenced in yard in all weather conditions?
there are plenty of couple or single people that i'm sure would re-home him
oh, sorry jes, i thought you meant the collie was scared of kids.so you mean little john?
<---Knows nothing about dogs
Around here, Molly, where the weather rarely dips below 30 and rarely gets above 70, the answer is yes -- a doghouse or other shelter and a water source are all that are required. Some breeds actually should NEVER be inside a home (Malamute, for example, which are bred for arctic conditions).
well you can put a shed or summer house in the back yard and have a dog door built in molly
if they have a place to get out of wind and wet, and have shade and free access to water in summer, most dogs will be okay. there are some specific breeds with issues, like mexican hairless dogs and frostbite, and flat faced dogs and heat strokes=
Jes, I miss my German shepherd every day...she died 8 years ago. But I have 3 cats who were all strays and one has seizures so I feel good that I'm giving them a loving home. Wish I had lots of land and could afford to take in so many more animals, but I live in a one-bedroom apt. and 3 cats is my limit.
A friend of mind got a heated outside dog house for a stray cat she couldn't even touch...now THAT's loving.
that is a kind thing to do for sure, Mimi! what a great cat-mama!
i'm like you mimi, i could be a foster mam to cats.i actually said this to one of our local cats homes where i got my cat now from and they said they didn't need me
I am allergic to 50% of cats, but love the silly little critters!
lovely mimi. i have a small summer house and i spent an ectra £50 to get a cat flap put in it for my cats when they were out at night and i put in cat baskets for them to lie in
My first stray honestly does know he's lucky because his people moved away and just left him at the apt. complex. He is such a wonderful and soulful cat and I feel blessed to have him as well as the other two.
the downstairs neighbor has a siamese-mix with the MOST beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen. He actually waits on the curb for us to pull up (also for his owner) and will run up to the car once it's parked!
i think i have the neighbourhood cats go in it now :0
I'm allergic to cats, too, stid, so live on Benadryl. But you do get used to your own cats a bit. When I get around other cats, though, it's torture. When I was working with lions, tigers, etc., at the wildlife park in the habitats I was constantly sneezing and basically couldn't breathe. But it was worth it.
a cat mansion, lilliann! :-) My paternal unit built a house for their dog with a roof that lifts for ventilation, and a heating pad for in the winter (though the dog sleeps inside if it gets below 40...).
aww, how oovely stid. they do know the sounds of the engines though.my cat will always come up to the car but if ohter cars go past she runs away
ah, Mimi! that's true dedication! Yes, I take massive quantities of antihistamines during the school year because the children bring in allergens (cat, goat, chicken have been the big ones this year) that I cannot escape...
well, it was actually the bairn's summer house when she was little but i got the cat flap put in aswell
My last two cats before these lived to be 18 and 20 and the male adored my ex (no accounting for taste). He used to wait for him in the laundry room by the garage at the time he knew he would be coming home from work! The only time I ever saw my ex cry was when that cat was dying.
my cousin was allergic to my long haired toriteshell but now she has a few cats of her own which are short hair and she's fine
Well, I have to head out for a while. Hope you-all will have a fine rest of your week. *poof*
When my ex and I were considering marriage he didn't want the cats...but I told him "I can replace YOU but I can't find cats this great again easily." Then the male adored him and he was hooked.
that sounds so cool stid, as in for the dog :0
bye stid tc hin
Bye, stid...bless you for all you do.
you've worked with lions and tigers mimi?
Oh, yes, lil...and gorillas, chimps, orangutans, and so many other species.
I've had pet monkeys as well.
majority of my cats who were all from shelters apart from my lovely jake who died about 8 weeks ago(he adopted us)have all lived from 15 to 22 years, so the vets have said
so you worked in a zoo mimi?
I do not believe in letting cats roam outside...too dangerous in so many ways.
my cats have always been outdoor cats
Yes, I worked at zoos, a primate center and a wildlife park where we entered the habitats with the animals...they were not caged. Fabulous experience.
oh wow. that sounds great. my daughter wants to work with animals but she can't make her mind up which but i said she's only 13 so she has time to think about it but she needs to get qualifications first
I used to care for a huge male gorilla who took M&M's from my hand using two fingers being careful not to hurt me. Gorillas are the BEST. Chimps are the dark side.
when i lived in the south of england we had a couple of zoos which had a few primates and i use to love watching the gorillas.if i wasn't in a wheelchair i would love to see them in the wild
Gotta tell you, though, there's absolutely NO money in working with animals...must be a labor of love. And, unfortunately, it tends to break your heart.
Yes, I'd love to visit the Aspinal Zoo there (did I spell it correctly?). They've done so much right with their zoo.
we also have monkeyworld here which is in dorset which i went to years ago when they didn't have many monkeys and now they have loads but they also rescue alot and are into breedint them, and conservation
I'm a riot to go to zoos with because I "speak the languages" of the animals and can get them to "perform." I always draw a crowd.
yes, there are two of them.port lymph and howletts.they are both in kent
they are both aspinall's zoos
that sounds great mimi.
Once a boyfriend and I were visiting a city and he dropped me off at the zoo and asked how to find me when he came back. I told him "Just go to the primate house and look for a crowd." He told me later you'll never know how weird it is to see the woman you love in a cage with orangutans at the zoo!
It was good experience for raising children!
brilliant mimi! i'd love to sit with a gorilla and a orangatan
Gorillas are soulful and you can get lost in their eyes. Orangs can be that way, too, though they are capable of a degree of deceit. Chimps...another story altogether.
your life sounds so fun mimi.you need to write about it :)
chimps do look like trouble makers
i would love to read your stories
Am in the process of writing a book right now. I've done so much in so many areas. Professional singer, medical transcription. tour guide, the list goes on and on. They couldn't make a movie out of the book...would have to be a miniseries...or two!
well, you never know :D
I don't know if I'm adventurous or just have a short attention span!
let me know when it is out:)
i'd say adventurous.
Oh, yes, the Babble community will be informed. Just started so it will be awhile.
Thanks for that, lil...
i think it's good in life to try different things.i think it's harder now because of shortage of jobs in certain areas but i think it's great to digress
well, just keep us posted mimi, because i truthfully would love to read it
Though I'm 62 now and had a heart attack last year, I have decided I'm getting back on stage and singing and also finishing my degree in Psychology. Hey, why not?
I think it was Oscar Wilde who said "Life is a banquet and most poor fools are starving to death." I plan to continue to devour life.
I also went out with Burt Reynolds once in the early 70's...yet another story.
good for you.you survived a heart attack, so you have a chance on a 2nd life.enjoy and do all that you can whilst you are still here :)
I'm impressed mimi
WHAT??
I'm hoping to get over to England perhaps next year, so you and I will go to the zoo together, lil!!!
mimi, you really need to write this book :D
Thanks, dawg....so many adventures. It's a rich memory life I have now....and plan to keep creating more!
I'm writing it from the perspective of my life plus the journey I've had with my best friend of 44 years.
i hope so mimi.i now live up north and you are most welcome to stay with us.we have loads of zoos but my brother lives down south near the 2 aspinall zoos so we can go down there too
and wildlife parks(safari parks we call them)
I'm waiting for a lawsuit to settle and give me money...that won't be until end of this year or beginning of next. But then....I'm coming, lil!!!
We can have a big Babble meet at a zoo and what a time we'll have....
you are most welcome here mimi, but if not i'd love to meet up with you anyway :D
it would be brilliant mimi and you can talk to the animals
Going to make some dinner and watch a movie. Here's hoping the grid tomorrow will be more substantial. Hugs all around. And a special one for you, lil!
it's just made me think of a poor young lass who was killed by a tiger in a zoo i've been to twice
enjoy your food mimi and hugs to you too hin
That does happen but it's almost always the fault of the human. You must understand species-specific behavior and adhere to their "rules."
BTW, lil...the animals will be fascinated by the wheelchair...trust me.
well, she was 19 and the cats are only allowed out by human hands.the police were looking into it. apparently she had worked there for a year.however it happened it's still sad for her family.they're blaming the zoo obviously.but it is a wild animal
i know, i got brammed by a pig in the place where the young lass got killed and she pit my leg and cushion of the chair :)
*rammed
Luckily, I've never been attacked but did have a capuchin monkey put her canine tooth almost totally through mu thumb once...lost feeling in it for many months. Still don't know why she did it!
Stories, stories....better stop...could go on and on. Wait for the book! Bye again.
that must have hurt!that's the thing, they are wild and we have to remember this.saying that, my cat has bitten me a couple of times and i don't know why
i could listen to you for hours mimi :)
bye again hin and tc
Hello all...back again for my last 50...
If your cat is a male, lil, it's probably a love bite...my males do that but don't actually hurt me. Animals know when you care about them...I've actually had wild deer come up to my in the forest...they know I'm safe. OK...gone now for sure. Hi and bye, Jilly! Did you get my em? Later and hugs again.
Yes and tc mimi!
no mimi, she is a she..lol

Jill too, apparently.
and cyber nan, and i love them all so i'm not saying it nastily(to all lurkers).i just wish i could ask for a clue and then get it straight away. i'd finish a lot quicker, that's for sure
apart from my nattering :D
It never ceases to amaze me how people ask for a clue and then get it one second later.
I think sometimes the act of asking frees up a part of your brain so the light can shine in ..
What's funny is that I don't ask until I am really stuck..must be magic that I then get it...appreciate everyone's patience
*opens the blinds*
i think i've done it twice but i didn't say anything and thanked the people for clueing as they have gone out of their way to clue and they won't know whether i've got the word or not, and i even do it if i don't get the clue
