fl 8
I must remind myself that this game wasn't designed to be a race, and we're given 24 hours to do it.
thx for the 7s
and for gr & fr 8s
So I shouldn't feel inferior because racers annonce their finds so fast
even though Lickety has given ujs a list.
I agree Jilli - and hi. And on that note, I'm off to the gym and out of the race!!!!
of course not, jilli
no jilli you don't have to feel anything
BBL
Certainly not, jilli
there is no race.. I'm trying to help people find words with small hints
but I do, unfortunaltely.
eh, just 'cause you may feel that way, doesn't make it so
your hints are lovley, ruru, unless they're too punny, lol!
you don't have to feel that way jilli
Love your hints, ru - without them and clues from people and lickety, I'd never find half of the words I do!
I like punny
I'm just very tired, having had a lot of stress lately
Me pun? what?
tired or cranky ? :D
I quite agree, liz
nbt, nbs

ne 7
ne 7 x 2
ty ru!
oh my, found a gr 5/14 I didn't think would work. Chrissie will know -- Land's End to John O'Gr5 (minus the s)
ty ru - missing 2 of those
I've got 3 a piece (7s & 8s)
ne 7 x 3 one is really strange
one is a cocktail
ty jilli, didn't have that one. It's an old english coin
that was the one I had never heard of
<---feels inferior .. doesn't know english coins
ah, so that's what John had, Chrissie!
it's a bitter cocktail.. dee ya gotta get out more
I have two fr 8's that start with opp of back.. does the other one start the same way?
ty dee
missing 2 7's - have one ne and one fr so don't see how there could possibly be ne 7 x3 and fr 7 x2
yw jili LOL ru
ne 7 x 3
thanks for getting me a 2nd fr8, Volley
ru, it's Brit geography I was referring to
7's are ce, ep, in, li, ne x 3, ni, ra
I obviosly don't know my cocktails *polishes halo
You got me jilli, had to google it to see if that's where the name came from :)
ty dee - missing one of the ne's -- are they all related?
*coughs*
two are, other is a cocktail
ru... help with fr 8's please
heavens - that could be anything! - can't think of a cocktail beginning with an n
nm found it
hah - monkeyed it :)
I remember seeing it advertised on ashtrays on café tables :-)
geography lesson -- Land's End, Cornwall, is the southern tip of the main British Isle, John O'Gr5 (with an s) is the northern tip.
I'll have to try one some time
points in the fr 8 that isn't the wild west?
fr8/65
fr 8/65 (there are 2 of those)
ok - found one of them
my phant generator

huzzah diz!
thx for dna thing
I do what I can
:teeth:
Hi all. I'm just popping in long enough to say...How many times do I need to type in certain before I am certain that it is not there?
there's a great question, Smith.
I keep trying and trying and....
I keep trying and trying and....
hi smith. At least once more. Or at least as many times as I have.
I also really want ogre to be there.
Pertain. Certain. Cretin. :p
If the puzzle won't accept my offerings, at least the Chatterbox will.
And orange. I'd even settle for orang or organ.
oh, don't get me started on organ...
lol, McL, you would give Ruru a run for the money, to be sure...
101 - still missing 2 8's, but will save them for tomorrow. Good night, all :)
nite, cyber
Good night. I'm not too far behind.
way too many blanks for my taste, but I think it is past my bedtime also...
sweet dreams, babblers!
ah - just monkeyed the last fr 8 -- good place to quit!
I'm down to 28 but I have work tomorrow. Night all.
g'night
g'night to you too, cyber
I didn't mean it like that, jb
I don't know why I'm still here. It's not like I'm finding any words. :p
I lied. I'm determined to get to 20 left. I've got one more. Any hints for the ce7?
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn
sorry, all I've got is a ce4
how many words total today?
I've got two ce4
134
There are 134 total.
and now I've got two too, thanks to you :)
thx jilli
I know Lickety is up, but I'm too lazy to click and check :p
mcl, do you know about Babble Expert?
I try to at least get all the 4's before I go to the list, but sometimes that's hard!
just monkeyed the ce7
My monkeys are severely limited tonight.
no, don't know Babble Expert
anagram a certain word and you'll have it
mcl, it's free and puts eveyting on one page, including Lickety. Also, the Lickety Add box lets you put in one word which goes to the list, and more than one goes to the chat. There's a link in my profile.
Hi all :)
Exercised and ready to find some words!
halfway, and that's enough for tonight. Goodnight and good luck all...*poof
Sleep well Jilli :)
time for me to feel inferior (and tired) - my brain refuses to process most of what you've just explained - I get that there's a way to put Lickety and other things on one page, and that you've got details in your profile, but that's all my mind can absorb right now
g'night jilli
I'm just staring stupidly at the grid until my other half gets home
Bye, jilli and hello Lizlin. I'm down to 17 and I'm out of here. Night all.
g'night smith, hello Liz
Sleep well smithchick
Hi McLeash
I don't have babble expert either. I just use lickety's list and any other help I get from other babblers.
Well, if you have a mac, Expert isn't available.
Ah! That explains it. I have a mac!
Not on a mac.
But it makes life SO much easier.
I've heard people talking about expert but never really understood.
mcl, please try it.
When I've used Lickety, I've just opened a second window and go back and forth. Perhaps I will sometime, jilli, but not tonight. My brain's fried.
One of my cats is snoring again. Loudly.
I am so not hitting 100 tonight. Still have 8 to go.
expert yu don;t have to go back and forth -- it's all there, all the time. And there's a link to morewords in Resources, and other goodies.
I've seen people mention morewords, but don't know anything about it.
and I must head for bed ...*repoof
Why isn't it available for macs? do you know? It sounds wonderful.
g'night jilli, sleep well
Liz, Lickety is a Windows guy and I guess doesn't have the right codes for Macs
Ah! I see. makes sense!
Shame though.
Sleep well Jilli.
*re-repoof!
good grief, I hadn't seen the tr4 for the forest, or something like that - talk about missin' the obvious
ty - me neither!
lol, Liz - seriously, I just now found it :p
Seriously me too! My 47th word!
woohoo, we are some kinda babblin' brainiacs :teeth:
OK - I'll be back later. Shower time - just back from the gym.
morewords is very nice, McLeash, you can put in an "exclusion list" of letters not in the grid, and it will give you only words without those letters
(just getting here, hi all)
hi rb, thx
oops, and misspelled McLeach first off, lol
I figured y'all were just trying to keep me on a short rope, so to speak
heeheehee! :)
man, don'tcha hate it when you think you've found another word, only to have Babble inform you that you've already entered it? :p
woohoo, found..... 1 more wee word
well, I hear the other half pulling in the drive, time to call it a night - g'night & have fun whoever is still around
night then, take it easy

cooee from me
good morning my friends
{{hugs}} sprite
good morning and cooee my friends
*hugs rose and joso*
have been thinking of you and yours all day
g'day mate
aw that is so sweet, rose. Today is the day, indeed. another 4 hours till the meeting.
*more fervent prayers being uttered right now* stick to your guns, sprite. tim needs to understand your rights, also
can't remember being so deep down angry before, so I think I will manage, grin. And all those thoughts and prayers will support me so much.
sprite, love, dig deep and keep it level. calmly state your case, but you have my permission to let a tear or two trickle down the cheek.
I do hope it goes well for you sprite. Is tim acting up with his sister again too, or is it mostly directed at you and hubby?
grin, ok, those will no doubt fall. Do you know that feeling where you are so mad, you can only be calm about it?
cold fury
right now it is mostly my love and me that are his targets, yes. Seems like he is kinda social towards his sister.
and above all, SIT ON YOUR HANDS!!! a strangle hold around your child's throat does not go done well....lol
that's what I mean, joso.
darn. Rose, do you have to ruin the fun? ;)
*giggle* take a loaded water pistol with you??? squirt the little squirt everytime you feel the need..
lol... quite the image. Love it.
*snort* didn't say with what...bourbon, scotch, vodka....every time tim opens his mouth squirt him in it...
vinager? bittersalt solution?
Loaded with dishsoap too! Hello and hugs all !
by the end of your session, one of you won't care who killed the cat...
a powerful sedative
hiya pug *hugs*
truth serum!
roflol....like josos's suggestion
hey pug, hows the head?
{{hugs}} miz pugs, helloooo
Hi Sprite, joso and rose--all is well with me
ah that is good to hear, pug :)
i've been sneezing all day long...the spring rains are here, and loaded with pollens....it happens every year...we have our first bout of spring sunshine, then it rains, bringing down all the pollens etc from up there.
how about you rose, any progress taming the wild MIL
oh yeah, that is awful, rose. I have that in our spring as well. Sneezing and red eyes and feeling like having a severe cold, lol, and meanwhile it is nice weather.
*gently tells Rose's sinuses to behave*
give it time, joso. she is still on pretty strong antibiotics. i will be gracious and allow her until they are finished...then....
out comes the chair and whip
you forgot the leathers....
...until the next squirrel runs past...
I was thinking jodhpurs and a bwana hat
in either case, i would suggest not adding the tutu
yesterday, we had rain, sleet and snow plus wind too.
brrrrr pug, how very unpleasant
roflol, you two....and we had snow in our local mountain range.
how do elephants hide in the smarties box..... they paint their toenails different colors
and you yourself, joso, how have you been?
lolol joso
gearing up to be busy
just realised we will have to miss you for a while, or not? I mean when you move out, and not have internet in a new place yet?
Maybe Rose you should send all that stuff to Sprite to use on Tim
oh good idea, pug. But not the tutu.
Have you started the packing Joso
I imagine so, unlikely the internet company will have it's act together enough to have the internet set for the first day
will hold you in my thoughts and prayers even more during that time, joso. I hope it will all go quickly and smoothly. And that your new place will be a good place for you to feel happy in.
not yet, later today I fix the car, then sell the comics and find a place
watching renovation home, a british series...where old mansions have fallen in4 disrepair, and a consultant is called in to show the families how to make the estates pay their way.
awww, joso, not the comics...*sigh*
sorry to hear about the comics :(
yeah me too
phantom: orange
Havent looked at them in a loong while, 100 boxes 1x3 feet, moving them last time nearly killed me. keeping the books will be enough
oh, sprite...it was mine too.
or so I keep telling myself.
really really almost there, our orange
mine was operation
joso, I admire you. You seem to be able to let go when it is time for that. *hugs*
joso, maybe contact the guys from big bang??
argh, a very good one, pug!
oh I love that show, rose. Brilliant dialogues.
it's heart-breaking to let something you cherish go...
I got a problem from drinking too much coffee--brb
I love the show too, so many in jokes for gamers and comic people, surprised it is so well received by all
now would that be A. a bladder problem, B. a bowel problem or C. a sleep problem? All possible with too much coffee. Could also be a problem with having the shakes...
guess there are a lot of gamers and comic readers around, joso. And movie nuts.
it is, but i will be moving into a smaller space, something has to give
i am going to try and use the next few weeks and go through all the stuff we have stored in our bedroom and lounge. am looking at packing up what we haven't used, either that or throw it out. i want it to be an easy step for DH to start renovating the lounge and bedroom.
sounds awesome, rose.
what are his plans for the space?
wish I could do more than hug you, joso.
need boxes, smallish ones...*looks hopefully around* nope, none here.
all better now!
Iam bad about giving up things.I still have my saddle and just cant let it go yet. That just one of a few things
bladder, bowels, bibbers or sleeplessness, pug? ;)
joso, we are swapping the lounge and bedroom. for starters, that gives our bedroom no shared walls with any other living areas, only the bathroom.
bladder,Sprite--lol
oh that would be nice, rose. Much quieter.
*giggles* Ok pug, that is not too bad. Glad you are back with us.
Rose!!!... are you asqueeler
roflollllllll joso!
then we start the kitchen....well that's a much bigger project. DH's sister will have to be able to step up to the mark, and provide care for the MIL. we will need her out of here for at least 6 weeks.
space, the final .... hah, I have already 3 x 8 today!
hmmmm....use you're imagination...not saying anything more....*giggle*
she will do all she can to avoid that, rose. Note my prediction.
tell your hubby he should also put the bed far enough from the wall, rose. That helps too.
yeah, i know...but a functioning kitchen is a good selling point, yes?
not unless it is her kitchen
are you selling?
and my guess the SIL is now very aware of how much it takes to meet the MIL's demands.
which is why she will do all she can to avoid having the MIL in her house again
which will make her only too eager to pitch in, i'm sure
joso, not yet. once MIL goes to God, and i have retired....
irony, such a lovely thing. Makes it possible for me and joso to vent opposite views and still mean exactly the same thing, lol.
ah, just looking to the future.
DH and i have our eyes on a rural property...
Does MIL go to church with you Rose
oh wouldn't that be fantastic, rose
preferably a californian bungalow type of property
that sounds nice Rose
*sings California dreaming for Rose*
pugs, it is difficult for her...she needs to take her time, getting dressed, etc. but on high days and holidays, we try to get her there.
and looking forward to the time when DH doesn't need to stuff a pillow in your face when in the midst of the horizontal watusi.
i also like to share decorating the christmas tree each year. it keeps her in touch with all the seasons.
do you have a pastor that goes to the home to visit the elderly there
aw that is sweet, rose
now i feel like a sinner, no mention of church when i started that comment
lol joso
leaving the church before the singing, joso?
omg, joso....ROFLOL....and just what do you think he is doing, at the same time...apart from deep breathing and panting...
I think we all are that Joso
yes, pugs...
is that even an english expression?
mostly breathing hard and panting, he adds a few tarzan calls to the mix does he?
oh, yeah....
I'm sure we are pug, but no need to flaunt it
so, is it or is it not?
sprite I dont know what you are refering to
must be quite disconcerting when the elephants respond and charge the bedroom. for some strange reason my mind keeps returning to an african theme tonight.
guess it isn't, then. It is a saying in dutch, to leave church before the singing starts = the very unsafe way to have sex and no children... to withdraw before orgasm.
is 'leaving the church before the singing' an english expression', not that I've heard sprite
btw... sex is holy too. No need to feel bad talking about church and sex in one breath.
Not heard it either
depends on who and the type of sex, I would say
ah, the rhythm method, only method the catholic church approves
me neither...but makes sense...kind of....a nice way to say coitus interruptus
pug, you are right.
thanks... will remember it cannot be translated directly, grin
the promise of many a teenages boy.... just before fatherhood
that one, lol, yes
*giggle* joso
back to the grid for a while, back later gang
later, mate, enjoy
bye joso, have a good one
later Joso
its slow going for me on this grid
DH has just gone out to fetch dinner. it's take-away night. we are having bbq chicken and salad.
sounds delish, rose. And nice not having to make it yourself.
not surprised, pugs. there are quite a few strange words in it
mmm, sounds gooey and good
finger-lickin good! lol
did you both receive the email with the enable word list in it?
lol
Iam down to 60
yes, but I dont have a printer
ose
nice going, pug!
I did, rose, thank you.
pugs, save it to yopur documents
oh okay
then create a link in your browser
My chat is sluggish this morning
I keep wanting to spell ration :(
that phantom -tion ending is irritating, indeed
yeah, pugs, another on of my phantoms...
my words exactly, sprite
Good afternoon rose, pugs and sprite and anyone else. Hugs to you :)
well it IS there...just not usable..:-(
hiya Liz :) *hugs* Even cooee is a phantom today.
cooeee, liz
morning Liz
true... not a phantom in that sense. But still... useless waste of a good ending.
Way behind you all today. So I won't try to use that ending
in that case you'll have catched up with us in no time ;)
Slow but sure, here.
not trying that ending saves a lot of time
Iam slow too Liz
Nothing wrong with being slow. I choose not to complete a grid until the next day.
and no incentive in being quick.
I think Iam losing my short term memery---cant remember if I took my vit. Lol
when i am working, i cannot count on having the time available the next day to finish.that is why i have to finish the same day as the flip.
Hm! Got into a brief chat about that at flip before I went to the gym.
nah, that is not losing your short term memory... that is taking the pill without doing so consciously.
Makes sense Rose but I don't have that restriction.
pugs, it's not a problem to repeat vitamin dose. any excess will be excreted.
about what, Liz? And was it a nice chat or not?
well I dont know if I did or didnt, so I wont
About how quickly some people find words. I think Jilli was feeling a bit down.
depends on the vitamin. D and K can be overdosed.
dear heaven, another light aircraft has crashed...nothing to do with the fires...but 3 in 2 days?
jeezzz rose :( So sorry to hear that.
Omg
how awful
oops, DH back...see you later. xoxox if i don't
its a multi-vit------------I try not to let others speed bother me, but I do at times wish I knew more of the odder words
Bon appetite, Rose. Enjoy your evening
aw poor jilli. She should be proud of herself... if my mind is still as sharp as hers at her age, I'd do cartwheels through babble.
later Rose,enjoy
enjoy, rose and *hugs*
two months until christmas
Me too. She felt it seemed like a race.
pug, in time you learn so many odd words. We didn't know them from the start either. Today, I learned ep7 as a new one.
People did reassure her though, I think.
Ah! Don't have that word.
morning OO, time sure does fly
at the flip it is a race. People want to be the first to find the biggies and the first to finish. And spam the chog with what they find, even up to the 6s sometimes. I never play at flip time anymore.
hi o-o, did you really have to tell me already? ;)
I dont pay any mind at the flip cause they go to fast cluing for me
It's 3 pm here, 4 when the US changes it's clocks, so that's quite a good time for me but I still plod along!
I cant even type as fast as some of them clues-lol
How mant times will I try ocean?
I give up. How many?
quite a few if you are anything like me, Liz.
Lots!
*giggles*
Clue for that ep word pls. Can't find it.
three of the 8s end with the comparative affix
when I looked at your icon here in chog, o-o, I thought it were two owlets sitting close together. And then I opened your profile and saw it was something very different. Interesting sentiment, the NVC.
Have 2 of them so far but thanks for that o-o
ep + to **r on the side of caution + a musquito is a **at + vowel.
me too Sprite=lol--when I see oo come on I think of a wise owl anyway
a couple end with the time on earth
Like the icon but miss its relevance to the sentiment. I understand the Hebrew.
what does the hebrew say, Liz?
Ty for ep. It says bereshit. Hebrew for in the beginning. Also Hebrew name given to book of genesis.
Ty for the other ending o-o
It comes from the article I site
Ah!
ah, in that case I do understand. I think. If you decide to live from the principle of non violent communication, you acknowledge it all starts with you. In the beginning there was the decision to take responsibility for every communication we engage in...
Yes I went back and retread the article.
Retread!
Auto correct!
lol, first thing I turn off in any program or browser. Can't stand the things.
communication is so critical ... yet so, so difficult
so true. Our human natures get in the way, often. Our fears, our egos.
ueber phantom: generator
I think Helen Keller is a wonderful example of how important communication is
True. Communication is difficult with just the written word. Visual and aural expression is so important.
She was an amazing person.
I love her texts
I think so too
Each of us has our own truth ... so many refuse to acknowledge sincerely held beliefs may be so different from their own. When I am told I have a firm grasp of the obvious, I see it as a compliment ... but doubt it is true.
It makes it especially hard to say if a person is this or that. We can only say who a person makes us feel.
:)
who? Freudian slip there, lol. 'how' I meant
Knew that!
well you guys makes me feel nice
*grin* As in 'I used to have a multiple personality but we are ok now'.
Good! You are.
I have wondered if one of Victoria's Secrets is possession of Freudian slips
you are always nice, pug
lolol o-o! Good one.
Lol
they have never shown VS and who knows it might be a man
fireflies. Interesting grid. New word learned for today ep7.
good job Sprite!
will be thinking of you and your family today....hope all goes well
Congrats sprite. Have a lovely day. Hugs
*hugs* to you all and thanks for your wonderful company and good thoughs.
thoughts* even
hugs to you all, and many blessing--leaving too
Have a wonderful day pugs
Hugs
hello everybody
sorry, I guess that's called making an entrance
Hi Ruby. Hugs. Was sooooooooo pleased to read about your son yesterday but only had time just to say fantastic!
thank you, liz, it was a big weight off my mind
I think he just has his own issues the main one being that he works 60-70 hours/week and then plays with his band most weekends
I'm sure. Is he able to help with all the tough stuff ( deliberately vague!
Busy life.
no, he doesn't want to get involved and there's no way we can communicate adequately, not does h have enough knowledge of the situation
nor*
Tough!
beat
whoops, sorry
100 down Just in time for our Friday night dinner.
Keep well Ruby. Hugs

Mornin'
good morning everyone:) crossy has a whole ten minutes to babble before i must head off to the hallowed hall of acadameia:)
academia*
whatever. Tis English not rocket science:)
Looked like the Greek spelling
we take good wholesome books then as they shriek in agony we tear them down to nothing but the quivering parts of themselves, place those parts under s spotlight cover their meanings in an impenatrable fog then leave them to die a lonely death remembering that they were once just a tale to bring enjoyment to others. in others words we are the blue sky B.S club;)
Good Morning everyone - just realized I have NBT and NBS...whooohooooo
morning riverdance

i am having a load of fun in english:)
Hi River, crossy

i can tear those books down so badly,i can prove the author and the teacher wrong all in one class:)
ah.....a challenge for the poor professor

I actually broke down and put the heat on last night - got home from a meeting at school and it was 58 in the house....
I haven't seen Mom around in quite a while - I hope all it OK
I haven't turned the heat on yet. Husband is going tent camping this weekend. Crazy
Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize last week for her short stories.
Mom is okay but her Dad suffered a stroke, was in rehab and he is home now.
It was 28 degrees F when I left home this morning
had to put the sandles away - so sad
i had to turn it on for first time yesterday. was minus 2c outside and 12c inside lol
Oh so sorry to hear that Annie - now I understand why she hasn't been on much
I'm wearing a hat in the house and two layers of clothes
sorry to chat and run but i must be off to pump some neurons
thats silly - turn the heat on bichon

Bad week....be gentle ;)

LOL...what a world..I miss the days I could just be a good nurse and not deal with the bullshit...
t's been my experience that nurses come in two flavors. Nice, caring ones like you, and big ego Army sergeant types who think they are God's gift to medicine.
Nurse managers elude a description
<------ has renewed respect & awe for nurses. Been loitering around hospital corridors for the last three weeks. Whatever they pay nurses is not enough. Every nurse has one leg in heaven!
We do work awfully hard....but more importantly *concerned look*...what has soodle cruising hospital corridors?
clue for the en6 plz?
My Dad has been unwell, Jilly. He has noe been transferred to a geriatric hospital, much to his chagrin... 'Theres nothing but 'oul wans' here'.... He is nearly 86!

bye Jilly
I took my 83 yr old Mam into visit my Dad today. The receptionist thought that my mother was a potential patient. High dudgeon doesn't begin to describe Mother's reaction. Bye Jilly, & keep up the good work.
EVERYONE would have been embarassed! funny
and done. Better get going - taking Stew to a greyhound walk round a local lake today - he is going to be SO happy. They get ridiculously excited seeing other greyhounds. Bye
Enjoy, Lynn.
Love the thought if an indignant mammy soodle bristling along the wards
Can imagine the same reaction from my mum
Chrissie, it was only when I got home & thought back over events that I saw the funny side. At the time, it was a bit fraught! Lol
Good night everybody. Time for bed. Thanks for your compamy.
Good evening. Is anybody here?
No one but us undesirables. : P
Hi Molly
Hi Wht. Enjoying The Series?
Game one more than game two.
I am glad for a night off.
Yes, even the fans need a break. : )
game 2 much better than game one. day off is good to build excitement.
With one notable exception game two was a better played game. But I liked the outcome of game 1 better.
that is was, much better and I am a Cardinal fan
I thought that might be the case. I think that this will be a much more competive series than 2004.
yes it will, Sox whooped us in 04, a series that had no enjoyment for me
Well, after the comeback against the Yankees, I don't think anyone would have been able to stop the Sox that year.
Productivity took a nosedive. The entire city was sleep deprived for two weeks because the games lasted until after midnight.
04 did seem destined for you. I can only imagine the attention that series had on the city
It was a pretty magical time. It is amazing how a game can bring a whole region together. It wasn't just Boston, it was all of New England.
Hi all :)
Hi Liz
yeah the really good teams do have a large regional base, and up their, with the closeness I am sure it is more felt
Hi Liz, I'm listening to music set to dolphin sounds. Very relaxing. : )
Sounds lovely! I can hear my washing machine!
Not so relaxing!
I'd love to have music in the background but my hubby is working on the other side of the room and it would disturb him - not going to sit here in headphones@
Wherever you drive in New England in the summer, you can find the Red Sox on the radio.
Do your clocks change this weekend?
I no longer live in Mo., and down here I could not even get playoff games on the radio as I drove home from work
Next weekend I think.
Yep, next weekend.
Thanks! UK is this weekend. Aus (not here in QLD) at the beginning of Oct. All so confusing!
Dark at 5PM. Not my favorite time of year.
It's never light past about 7pm at the latest here - I really enjoyed the long summer nights that I had in Canada / Alaska this year. I miss them from London.
Long summer nights are wonderful. Especially when the fireflies are around.
But the earliest is gets dark is about 5pm - so it has its upside.
Never seen fireflies.
Oh wow. That's a shame. They are a part of nature everyone should get to enjoy.
Seen them on TV - would love to see them in reality.
I think you would like them Liz. I have considered them magical since I was a kid.
I know I'd love them! They do seem magical.
Once the clocks change, it will be dark here at 4:30.
Liz, are there no fireflies there in Oz?
It used to get dark at 3.30 in the depths of winter in London.
Ugh Wht. It's the worst to go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. I feel like a mole.
Hubby thinks there are fireflies in Oz. I just haven't seen them.
I used to hate working in winter in London - like you said Molly, getting up in the dark, driving home in the dark. Yuck!
They are pretty magical. They like open fields.
Ah, a field full of fireflies. It's like stars near the ground.
Apparently there are some not far from here, in the hinterland / forest areas but I wouldn't be there in the dark.
Just googled that.
Liz, are you anywhere near the fires?
Not really - at least not the main ones. There are some fires not too far but they're all under control. It's very dry here, even though we had a small amount of rain on Thursday.
Well stay safe.
ty - if they get anywhere close, we're out of here!
But although we've trees all around us and parkland too, we're pretty urban really.
ce,7 please
nm, found it

Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone doing
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!
HI minv!! Glad it is Friday I am!!
I like your icon Jillyjill, and yes I so do miss my stick! Broke down and I bought an automatic when I got my new car.
Always had a stick until my last car, but hubby has a truck with a stick, so I drive it now and then...
Well, good night Babblers.
Niters wht, sweet sleeps!!
nitey nite wht
Hi all!
Min- getting ready to teach my 15 year old to drive and found out she's never even been in a car with a stick.
Goodbye wht! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log maybe.
Hello magazinemom! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
Hey min
magazinemom, my father taught me how to drive w/stick.
<--------!!FW!!
With the long distance commutes people make, and all the stop and go driving in traffic, I wonder why anyone still drives a stick. They are great for racing and off road, but that's about it.
Yay Jilly!!!
Everyone WooT for poor, dejected WooTy!!
Also sticks do well in MT....nice on snow/ice
I'm vaguely thankful I don't have to teach her to drive a stick.
One of my boys took to it like a duck to water and owns a stick. The other one never quite caught on....might be able to do it in an emergency.

It's been a rough week....looking forward to the weekend!!

One more day of nice sunny warm (50's) weather, then winter storm warning on Sunday...and drastic drop in temps.
How about you?
It's not too bad. Supposed to have frost tonight. Had neighbor cover some flowers. Hope you can get out and about over the week-end.
LOL...day full of yard work tomorrow!!
Lots of leaves down?
Yup. Hubby raked most of them, but need to finsh cleaning out garden to put leave on for mulch.

Good Evening, All. How are you doing tonight? I'm just getting here for the first time; how's the grid today?
horrible nef.. run .. .run.. .run for your life
seriously, ruru?
...just kidding'...
Hello Nef! How are you doing today? Welcome to the chog.
it's not too bad
Hello rururocks! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
Hi all. Nef, it's a good grid for a long-term Babbler in that the only word you might not get, because I think we've only seen it in the grid once before, is ep7/40 - the centrepiece for a table that hold flowers or fruit etc.
Does anybody have a clue for the ce 7/32 word yet please?
Min - ce7/32 is the outer layer of hair, nails etc.
hint for re 5/16?
ce + rodent + not out.
I've been a bit "under the weather" today and yesterday; so am a bit slow tonight. I'll give it a crack and aim for half way --IF it
maggiej - to dance at the disco again is re5/16.
hi Min, ruru, Jac and maggiej
hi Nef
tyvm Jac
y/wm maggiej.
Nef - I hope you feel better soon.
I'm okay, Jac; I'd spent 2 days in class and I guess I'm not young enough to sit still and write all day anymore.
Little Richard in Tutti Frutti has a re***
My job is to sit still and write all day, but I don't actually do that. I get up, walk about and do other stuff all the time. Tought 2 days, I guess then, Nef?
o-o - LR bee***s, but good clue anyway.
Nef - what are you studying in class at present?
not so: http://tinyurl.com/qawqka8
I hope that link isn't going to take me to lyricscentral, o-o, because that's a site to b*gger up a pc.
you do no have to go anywhere ...
LOL.
I took 2 back-to-back continuing ed. courses: 1 on Neuro anatomy and then the 2nd was on the gut-brain connection. Sitting still and writing during the lectures wasn't a good idea I guess.
Nef - they sound like really interesting courses, nonetheless.
o-o - LR b**ped, however it was heard. Fun track.
they were, Jac. just that they should have had tables for us to sit at instead of just rows and rows of chairs
Oh! No tables? That's bad!
In my college lecture rooms (back in the 70s) they had chairs with pull-over table tops. In the lecture theatres, there were chairs with properly angled long tables.
I guess, Nef, that they were assuming everyone has i-pads now. :(
I don't have an i-pad or an i-phone, btw.
Thank you all for the ce 7/32 clues. I just found that word.
C's Capped! 10 left
Well done, Min.
I'm a lefty, Jac; those little desks with the pull over writing tops were always a pain for me. But they were much better than no tabels at all
Does anybody have a clue for the or 6/24 word yet please?
or6/24 - French word for a drink made from barley and orange. O + an anagram of the mighty gr5/14.
Nef - I'm a lefty, too. However, I hold my pen like a right-hander, ie. not in a fist. Maybe that's why I had no probs with them?
Nef - I angle my writing pad quite sharply to the right, which also helps.
I remember my Mum storming up to the school in the early 1960s to tell my teacher off for slapping my hand and straightening my writing pad. Teacher got the message and my method of writing was never interfered with again. Thanks Mum!
(That, by the way, was after she'd already had a go at the same teacher for trying to force me to write with my right hand.)
Have to hand it to my Mum - she never allowed anyone to try to change me in my formative years.
in heaven there is no be** (be**) that's why we drink it here!
hi all
Hello jmc.
how do you get so far along in games Jac dear? do you spend money or time? (I have neither these days)
I was forced in 2nd grade to try and write with my right hand; I don't remember a thing about that grade in school. The Aunt who raised me (from 3rd grade on) had me turn my paper so it was parallel with my left arm and I don't write with my hand cramped in a ball or fist either.
hi jmc
jmc - which games? The ones on FB? No, I don't spend money. I'm just patient and stubborn.
good plan nef. . . i was tortured because when i hold a pen or pencil i use two fingers instead of one. . . .
i am glad to hear that jac. . .i just need more time then. . .
oh look there is a goose!
Yes, jmc. Don't let 'them' make you pay.
thanks, jmc!
That'd be a Hawaiian goose.
i never even sign up for the "free" stuff that requires a credit card. . .
yw nef. . . why?
Nef - I don't think teachers are allowed to force kids to write with anything other than their natural hand now. I think all that stuff in the past was a hangover from the idea that the left hand was 'The Hand of the Devil'.
I'd missed the goose before. :-)
ah. . .
but why me jac? i used my right hand . . . . no devil there. . . even my daddy would punish me for holding my fork "wrong"
If anyone wants a clue for fr8/55 - Davy Crockett was the king of the wild one.
did you know his parents were quakers?
thanks, Jac
jmc - No, I did not know.
btw the BIG excitement at the Meeting this summer was that Dame Judith Dench came to Meeting. . . she did not rise and introduce herself after meeting. . but we always say only if you feel comfortable. . . .
little known quaker factoids! haha
jmc - I have no idea! I'm trying to think how many fingers we in UK use to hold a knife and a fork. Will have to go and do so... hang on.
got me. . . still makes me feel strange to use only one finger with me thumb to hold a fork. . .
Ah.. knife and fork - full giner thing, almost, until cutting or scoping or lifting.
Full finger, I meant to type.
all four???
jmc - Yup, until you start utilising them.
so in a fist then?
Dame JudiTH? We in UK call her Judi. lol
who'd have thought?
No, jmc, not in a fist.I'd have to take a photo to show you how it's done.
oh okay quakers tend to use the full name. . . but then we wouldn't use the dame part. . .
not to worry jac. . .
stats for the lower O please
jmc - which way do you point the ends of your cutlery? Inwards to the meal or outwards and upwards?
inwards towards the meal. . . no point in pointing them away from the food
jmc - lower o is ot5/10, rose oil.
ty
jmc - unless I can remember what your FB name is, there is no way I can give you photo illustrations of the cutlery thing, since I really cannot be bothered to add to the photo thing that Babble shows. Sorry!
You don't have to tell me here if you don't want to. I can look it up on Babble group on FB llater.
Just typed a Welsh version of later with a double ll. LOL
I am sorry Jacula, but I did not understand the OR clue. May I please have another or 6/24 word clue please? Thank you
I apologise to any Babbler whose FB name I don't know. I'm terrible at remembering names, especially when people have 2 names each.
Never mind! I just found that or6/24 word. Thanks anyway

stats for the second column E please
Min - or6/24. Let's try this - a popular plac in Somerset is Cheddar Go***. Take the first letter and the last letter off that canyon and then add a word that means to take food into your mouth.
jmc - I will check you out when I next have time. xxx
:-)
Thank you Jacula, but I found the word at 11:30. Now I'm working on the second gr 5/14 word. Can't seem to see it.

y/w, Min.
'Night jmc. Sleep well.
I need the first two ne 7/36 words and the ne 8/50 please.
The 2nd ne7/36 is some one who negates something.
The first ne7/36 has the same letters apart from the last one and sounds like a light weight.
Tank you Jacula! That also got me the FIRST ne 7/36 word
ne8.50 is the same as ne7/36 above it but adds a very Somerset 'arrrrrr'.
Does anybody have a clue for the ne 8/50 word yet please?
Do I add the Somerset letter at the end of the word Jacula
Min - the last 4 letters of the ne8/50 word were the name of a 1982 sci-fi film.
I am finished! I have fireworks! ne 8/50 was my final word
Well done Min! *~*~*~*~*~*~*
Thanks Jacula for helping me cross the finish line for FWs!
You are always very welcome Min.xxx
Oh, I really love it when players don't need words given to them on a silver platter with a side order of fries.
Any guesses for the next puzzle size? My giess is 114 words.
230 is my guess.
444...hehehe
Does this puzzle still change at 6am UK time?
dizgrannie - I doubt it, but I'd be delighted if you were right.
LOL Jac, I just loved the 700 odd grid we had, though I got a bit frustrated towards the end
The bigger the grid, the faster you find words and, when you get down to the nitty gritty, it's a bit of a challenge. Those are the kind of grids I like, but I do wish Dr_God would update the dictionary.
