On the news tonight there was an elderly lady who had lived in her little house for sixty years and the furnace had gone out. Her landlord had not had it fixed and she was refusing to leave. Some of the children who had lived around her when they were growing up saw the news and now that they are grown have come together and brought her heaters and food, etc. One of the young men said that she had given them cookies after school and was responsible for many of them growing up in the right direction. It was wonderful to see people helping her.

A month ago we had work done here and the repairer went away leaving a load of rubble in the soil pipe: result, "very-recently-fouled water" (!) came up in shower base. Repairer showed no remorse at having failed to complete job.

tomorrow the new kid we're getting? he and his family moved here 3 months ago from mexico. hes 7 years old and cannot communicate
OK I guess I missed that bit of info. I guess some of the kids are pretty frustrated and confused when they come into a new environment.
but you would be amazed at how quickly the kids learn to communicate at the school. days. not weeks.

the school offers sign classes but most of the families live so far away.. like in the other end of state.. so most parents cannont communicate so the school is more of home to the kids

I would say 75% of the residential staff is deaf. the ones who arent work with the blind.. which is a smaller group. only one non-deaf works with deaf and she happens to work in my dorm with me
no i was born deaf. my parents are too.. genetical but only happens in 10% of deaf people
deaf kids of deaf parents have a tendency to be more successful and smarter than the other 90%

yeah most deaf people here are on welfare. so hard. i gave up in the mainstreamed world and applied for a job in the deaf world. i lucked out big time.
