Rufie has another one of his skin problems and I was waiting around for the vet to call/visit. He's back on steroids and antibiotics
and today it's outside appointments
sometimes busy is good---does he have some kind of alergy
there's no way to tell without taking him to the special "dog allergy clinic" which is pretty far away and VERY expensive
I don't think it's worth the trauma of being shaved and tested
He won't let the vet approach him and she's very nice. He gets under the table and growls at her. He never has growled at anybody else
I could be too from being wet alot--I know my horses would sometimes get what is called rainrot in the wet seasons
He probably smells other animals or medicine on her
and in the past, she has had to shave him a couple of times. Chows never forget!

but yes, the smoke smell on everything, bits of bark to be cleaned up all the time and of course getting up at 3 am to put a log on the ocals to last till morning

If they can keep his BP in check - that is good.

I do love my wild birds though, and have a few feeders plus i hang lard balls off my tree branches and put little lard balls into my hedge so the little birds can get them without the horrible rook things stealing everything

We have a problem with a grey squirrel. You have to admire the ingenuity but it eats more than the birds. We put the balls (sorry Molly) in an inner cage that holds 4 of them and then has another wire cage outside so small birds like tits (again sorry Molly) can climb into the outside area and the squirell can't reach.
My husband puts a couple of fat balls into one of our feeders but the horrible rook things eat them and frighten the smaller birds away from the other feeders, but by putting them in the hedge where the bigger birds don't go, the little ones get to eat them
We have multitudes of squirrel and deer. ugh. That's why we only have one feeder
we get bats around here.there are alot of trees around us which is where the squirrels are but not alot in peoples gardens here, which is why i keep my fir trees for the little birds to nest

Apparently there is a virus here too but not as bad.My Husband says that we have the biggest colony of bats in Durham Cathedral in England and that there is also a brick train which has special bricks in it that the bats nest in, which is in Darlington, which is not far from us either

No. DCC are frightened to death about being sued if a branch falls on a car. They go around at the start of the nesting season and flail all the hedges. Birds, what birds? Then they start on the trees so they are all one sided. Even if there is a verge there, they are the same. The hedges are all reduced to a metre tall and look like concrete blocks. Even the farmers are in on the game too.

People here often say they are off to "forage" for food. Forage means hunt for. Toddling is like what a baby does when it starts to walk, hence the term "toddler".

My bairn is taking science as a gcse next year and it now includes all sciences, but when i went to scholl many years ago, we could just take one or all three. i wasn't any good at physics and didn't enjoy chemistry so i took biology
well, I was fascinated by elementary particle physics from a very early age, and read a lot about it even before I got to college (I was a rather odd child)
The bairn doesn't have a choice, all 3 are now included and she will ahve to all 3 as seperate GCSEs.
well, I hope she enjoys it, lilli!
The bairn wants to train blind dogs but i've told her she needs to spread her horizon, and do things with other animals, but she will need science to help to start and as she gets older she can then go to college and university and do other things

I've told her, she can do animal behaviour and she should learn some nursing care maybe for animals
she could be a vet assistant, or work with rescue animals, if the training thing doesn't work out

She's only 14, so we can look into that, but the schools now are pushing them into doing a course for 2 years as from September but her school has stopped doing animal care, so she's limited
