night dav
Thanks all...TTFN
lol 'sok, you could put him in the window like in home alone so people wouldn't break into your house when you leave town
I have 80 pounds of german shepherd/husky for guard duty. =8-)
i like tom... he is a solid guy. back in the day when he was a 'brave'
mmmm my hubby is baking banana bread and it smells so awesome!
he was fantastic as a brave -- and supposedly a lovely man who does tons of charity work
kierlex, where are you up north? I'm on the Snake in South Central Idaho near Twin Falls ad Jerome
ch1212 i am in moscow
and the braves are horrible this year
ch1212, i grew up in southern idaho, though, south of pocatello in Arbon Valley
my team is the mariners...
no kimber - they've gotten alot better
none of the teams are really outstanding this year, esp in the NL
ah ... never been there but hear it's beautiful. I do know where Arbon Valley is. Nice to see another 'spud' in Babbleland. And we're Mariners fans too :) I saw them play the White Sox at the King Dome a few years back
yes- better, but i think they are like 14 games back in their division- and playing under .500 ball
ahh, the king dome is no more! we haven't made it over there this year for a game but we usually do, it's so fun and i love seattle!
now that's not true - look at the team with the best record!!!
We have several Babblers who live in Seattle, but Stidmama is the only one I can think of right now.
what town are you in ch1212? (you don't have to answer if yhou dont' want to)
I'm a mourning fan of the Expos and every once in a while find ex-Expos starring elsewhere - so sad
i think wassup and froelica live in wash. state as well, if not, oregon
y'all lost me when you moved off Han. Sorry - I can be intelligent when college basketball starts. any clues before I go?
We're currently in Twin, but have lived in Jerome and Hagerman
And Boise
that is hard jillibus
debbilina?? i am guessing you are a mets fan? and the braves are 14 games behind the mets -
who do you root for then, charm?
ty debb
most any underdog. and Duke.
Goodnight, Charm -
and are you done?
ewwwww! who roots for duke?
ch1212, oh, i wasn't sure if you were out in one of the small towns. i haven't been down that way for a long time. my parents live in blackfoot now
me. and yes.
i have a friend who's a duke alum, boooo =)
I have family in Boise
well congrats, even if you are a duke fan ;)
it's the babble duke fan club. membership: 1.
big booooo
Kimberblue, my daughter lives in Boise now. It was just named one of the top 10 places to live in the U.S.
charm - Duke? I have 2 Dukie cousins and their Dukie offspring in NC
I have not been there for about 10 years- it was so small then
(kimber - come save me, duke fans everywhere!)
i still think of christian laettner and bobby hurley and want to vomit =)
Duke waaaay long ago. so long I don't think I'd recognize the campus any more.
Duke and Dick Vitale - grrrrrr
Mu cuzs were long ago too
*my
ok. I've obviously upset the apple cart (and some tummies). My job is done. I'm off to bed. btw - Dick Vitale hates duke.
Leslie Ann and I prefer it in corn country
boise isn't very small now (well, for Idaho that is), it's just one big tumor of urban sprawl
yeehaw!
nighty nite charm
True, kierlex! When I lived there the population was around 50,000. Now it's nearly 200,000
He LOVES Duke
Eyes slamming, brain shutting down -- bye bye -- back tomorrow
night charm
goodnight jillibus -- I like your statement on your bio about the theme today. Sleep well.

I don't remember that one, kimber. When I was in High School we hung out at Brass Lamp Pizza on Vista. And there was a Shakeys Pizza.
thanks ch1212 - u2
This was about 20 ywars ago ch1212
ah, I graduated High School in 1973, so that explains it. :)
oooh, shakey's pizza! i remember those!
they used to have those little keystone cop movies playing right?
Shakey's was one of the first 'family style' pizza joints in existence... those Keystone Cop movies were a big deal! :D
yep, i thought they were awesome! we lived out on a farm in the middle of nowhere so it was a big deal to go to pocatello and eat somewhere anyway but if there was a movie, too, WOW =)
yeah, I'm halfway done. Now can go to bed. Kier, we went through Poky this past week on our way to Jackson Hole for a couple days. It has grown too -- especially out towards Chubbock. Idaho Falls seems to have shrunk, though.

Enter the ones that you have onto Lickerty's list and then you'll see where the gaps are. I think that's what quite a few of us do.

Hi jfb, not too bad
hi sprite
98 and struggling! Do you like the icon mva?
lovely, sure I've seen that many times before! only at 55, late start
it looks like one of the tors on Dartmoor that we slept under in 1971
'quim' is so a word. Slang yes. But a word.
I want 'sheesh'. I say it all the time.
jfb--have you been to tintagel and clovelly?

two months..four guys in a vw superbeetle with tents and sleeping bags
wow, sounds great!
we spent 3 or 4 days in edinburgh, 5 days on the isle of skye and drove around much of scotland..on our way back south from the lake district we planned to explore wales, but there were reports on the radio that campers had been attacked by skinheads so we bypassed wales for devon and cornwall
Did you have fun chj?

Poor spaniel! Imagine having a coat on in this weather.
about an hour's worth of deburring - so far ...!
Martin Luther nailed 98 of these to the church door...
Shrek was on one of these...
Atalante Thats one very hot dog by the looks of it.
Jups, got the 8 too. Close to the 7, but still different indeed.
I keep typing 'tash' every time it appears in the hope that one day the Enable dictionary will catch up with common usage...
one very hot dog! she'd been chasing pheasants for an hour ....
In the same spirit Douglas, there would have been one of these if Shrek had died when on one of those.
How do you define "tash?"
tash = short for moustache
oh
Shrek is not allowed to die.
Therefore, thankfully, no need for in7/40.
i agree sprite!
I've found a really really "big" word - gi5 Hehe
Went to Shrek 1 with the kids, expecting no more than giving the kids a good time. Ended up laughing at least as much as they did, lol. And 2 was even better.
thanks haz, couldn't see the last 7
That's a nice biggie, FMitch, thanks :)
The daughter of James Lileks...
sprite - I went to see Toy Story with my girls. They assused me of being a total embarassment as I had laughed so loudly.
I've got 2 of the 7s - that one and the molar one - clue for the 3rd please?
the only thing worse than real angst is phantom angst
Some of those 'kids' films are just great. Perfect for kids, but with another layer that is great for adults as well.
Not to mention angstrom, Douglas!
jfb pl of church songs
JFB, think The Queen and her "song"
JFB - an7/36 -
FMitch, you think that is what they say to her? "Hey Liz, they are playing your song!"? ;)
Thanks - should have got that!
Something that almost isn't there, even when it is there...
LOL Sprite and she goes "Oh god, not again"
LOL FMitch!
jfb you should have got that one! time for breakfast bbl!
don't you feel tired and sleepy at 3.00 in da morning
at the Proms last week, they played 2 verses of the National Anthem. That confused most people there who suddenly realised they didn't know the words to the second verse ...
Ata posted a wo-ord, Ata posted a wo-ord!
Atalante - were you at the 80th birthday prom?
Ata said a wooord!!! I think I would be hard pressed to remember the 2nd verse
oh POO! sorry
yes, I was Haz
God save our gracious Queen! Long live our noble Queen! God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen. An additional verse is occasionally sung: Thy choicest gifts in store On her be pleased to pour, Long may she reign. May she defend our laws, And give us ever cause, To sing with heart and voice, God save the Queen.
Capitalized even :) In case anyone would miss it :)
I watched some of it on television. The music was wonderful, but you all looked so hot!
so now we know!!
*creeps off in utter embarrassment* thanks for pointing that out, sprite :P
Hihihi, Ata, sorry, couldn't resist :)
it was SO hot. we actually left at the interval, just too hot and sticky. We only wanted to be there for Peter Maxwell-Davies's piece anyway. It was a wonderful evening though!
And what did you think of the piece? I was expecting something jollier.
well, I knew what it would be like. I don't know how much was explained on TV, but it was meant to represent the Queen (choir) providing a base of stability and light in changing and strange times (orchestra). I was actually expecting something *weirder* LOL. Some of his works are pretty bizarre!
It must have been 'challenging' to sing.
hi again everyone
hi saphyre
Hello saphyre. I've just found a sparkly se6/27.
have the 6...
I felt sorry for the guardsmen who were doing the fanfares in their buzbies. talk about HOT! the choirs were actually really good ... I don't think I would ahve liked the piece if I hadn't known why it sounded like it did, but knowing that discord and glumness was there for a reason, I ended up really liking it
morning saphyre :)
Good find Haz and thanks.
couldn't sleep - used to being up all night working
i have 65 left - should i get the list?
Discord and glumness. Why does that make me think of John Prescott?
um ... let me think!
Why would anyone want to think of John Prescott???
get the list saphyre...
To lighten up the mood: fireworks!
Discord and glumness did it for me!
congrats sprite :)
Woohoo sprite
Congratulations sprite!
yay sprite!
Can I nag for a bit about Ga5/14? Why no 4 for that one?
Nag away but it's lost on me as I don't have it yet.
which ga5/14 sprite?
don't have it yet either
I'm frantically searching for it so that I can join in the discussion and look intelligent.
Looks like a plural or a 3rd person singular, but there is no singular or 1st person singular for it. I kept looking for that last G and never thought to try the 5, since the 4 wasn't valid :(
lol haz
The first one, Ata.
It's because the singular is a three letter word.
Comes before the nasty wound.
what Haz said then :)
Aha! Haz, that is more th4 intelligent. In dutch it would need a double consonant in the middle, but not in english. I will never learn!
Although 'normal' English spelling would put a double s in the plural.
in english also if it is the one i think it is
LOL! Okay, thanks a lot, I feel a bit less stupid now :)
ga 5/14. They propose to tax farmers for the methane ***** that their cows emit in NZ! Hi all
Angb, thanks for that clue I was getting so confused.
Hi Angb. The word before **** contains another valid one ;)
Hope you are all in for a little trivia tonite? You must be you are Babblers ...LOL
Anyone who needs a clue before I leave?
For a babbler nothing is trivial ;)
going to try without clues but thanks sprite
Can I ask a dim question? I thought I would try using Lickety's wonderful page tonite. But, I don't have to retype everything into the Babble page do I?
yes Angb
Angb - you will have to type the words into babble, as the two pages are not connected.
Okay, I have a dumb question. What do you call an exit from the highway? Is that junction, or do you use th4 only for non-highways?
Ok - thank goodness I didn't get too carried away!!!LOL
exit ramp
Thanks. So when giving directions, one could say: you take exit ramp 304... ?
or just exit 304
sprite - in Britain, do you mean? In Britain it would be a junction or an exit.
we call them junctions in the UK... eg Junction 1 on the M1...
Great, thanks a lot :) Friends from America are staying in Holland and come to visit today, they need a route!
just tell them exit and # then
Time to go - lunch preparations to be made. See you later!
Great, this should work then. I learn at least as much from the babblers as from the grid :)
bye haz
later Haz :)
Bye all!
bye sprite :)
Bye Haz and Bye sprite
found the a 8/45
Bye sprite :)
bye sprite!
Bye sprite
Day #3 playing this game. Found Lickety's list. Wow!
welcome to babble riemann - but I warn you it is addictive
there's a brand of bananas in the grid... but apparently it means something geographical...
oh thanks sherb - I always forget that one!
A clue please ... he 4,6
I have the Dodge engine and bottom sewing of skirt.
what you sew on the bootom of a skirt of pants
It has to be one of the first 4,6s
ge** whiz plural
The Dodge engine one, could it end in another vowel?
not sure what the dodge engine is...
to fool or joke is to ge 4/6
A clue then for the in 7 plez
didnt get that far merk sorry
Nevermind the in, it just popped out at me.
he 4.6 = he + masculine of hers less the vowel

cool thanks fran my monkey is on strike, i just got it, dashed monkey
oh no not mrs price ooowwwoooowowowowow it not fair
Congrats Lynxxx
sydnie i think you might have to suck it up, bad teachers can sometimes be the best out there, even if they do suck
hay...keep calm...itll be fine..youre in with sydnie.
no problem infernal.
very true herinfernallady
oh cool that will be ok then hopfully i will sit next to her den
id love to go into ppls definition of a 'bad' teacher..
i remember i had a teacher that was a MEGA nasty but she was really good at teacher, she kept us monsters under control.
same here herinfernallady - she ended up being my favorite teacher
hey lady...ask any on my year 11's...IM that person...lol
OK, links are on my profile page. I wrote a paper on what makes a good teacher - I got a first on it.
why your a grat teacher though if you are in the bad side pepl regret comin to school and will talk about you behin yr back
What will this person be teaching you, Sydnie? English?
are there any TSs?
Rolin a good teacher is someone that listens to the student, doesn't take poo of said students and respects, that even though the teacher may not like a certain author should respect the student does and teach them the same as anyone else unlike my lit teacher which didn't like my pick of 3 authors and refused to teach me, so i left
yes unfotunatly
fran your safe from ts 's today
good, i can stop looking for them!
Coming into this late, I don't know how old Rolin's students are, so Sydnie, how old are you?
lmao....i love it...
lady...so youre basing your ideas of teachers and teaching around one person??and how s/he rubbed you up the wrong way?
my English teacher hates Evelyn Waugh therefore she's a CRAP TEACHER FROM HELL! it works that way, rolin ;)
No rolin that was a crap example sorry. what i mean sometimes words are dodge
lady/.i wasnt laughing at you btw..i was reacting to sydnies summation of reaction to my bad moods..
yes but dont you think students will learn more if there teachers are really cool and do fun things in lessons like mr williams mrs douglas and all pe teachers and even rolin
yeah sydnie for a while...but at some stage everyone h things that have to be done that are NOT fun..they are just hard work..as to come to terms that there are
LOL! I had an English teacher who loved Sylvia Plath (this was in University), and I wrote a paper absolutely slating her - saying that if she were around today, she'd be on Springer pouring her woes out to anyone who would listen. I got a 2:1 on that paper.
my keyboard rearranged that...sorry
i had a uni lecturer who refused to understand that history taught thru literature was still history...NOT a literature course... i still passed the course with flying colours...but he got his revenge..refused me a reference ....the....(chn present)
still all of the students i know regret ever seein teachers that are really strickt like mr ferginson mr alco and teachers that hate me
no the teacher was a bad teacher because she was given texts to teach us and she didn't like Adrienne Rich (as she Rich is a lesbian, i believe) therefor everybody had to ignore that text and write an essay on robert lowe despite us been given 3 texts to choose. This teacher flat out refused to even explain how the basis of the essay was written, does that make sense rolin?
How many teachers hate you? How old are you?
I also class bad teachers as teachers that refuse to teach non popular students, I used to love most of my teachers, I had one science teacher that was so patient he got me from a borderline fail to a b, he was amazing
sydnie....theres a net ettiquette here...you dont dis real ppl using real names..ok?...we can have this conversation in pvt... but you dont know who the others on this site are...and you dont know if they will rocognise who youre talking about...
ok enough of my prattle i can see a hole being dug to china that im never going to get out of
im twelve and there are about fifteen teachers i can trhink that ahte me cause of preveous lessons
Are we talking high school, middle school, what?!
yeah well..lady...sweeping generalisations like..'refuse to teach'...is some hole..
sydnie is year 7...going into 8
high schoo
going back to bed for a while - later everyone
Rolin, I had a music teacher when I was 13 who only taught 2/3 of the class, and dumped the other third who were average into another room, then never actually taught them anything (I was in that 1/3). It took a group complaint to get her to teach us.
Syd, can you think of any reason why these teachers hate you? I have a daughter goint into year 11 (AKKK!)...my daughter has had one or two teachers she didn't much care for, but nothing like 15 teachers - there must be some background to this. And I doubt they hate you. They may have disliked your behaviour, but never you.
Ronin - are you a teacher?
bye saphyre!
true rolin this was one teacher out of i don't know how many, there was about 1000 students in my school and quiet a few of them were horrors.
bye fran :)
jen...i have no idea what the background to such a class arrangement was..
yeah my behaviour but that was the beeginin of the year and i have changede but teachers dont give you another chance
yes matty...i was sydnie's (both of them..lol) teacher last year
rolin this teacher developed my love of photography, the horrors where the students.
sydnie do your work, prove yourself that you are worthy and don't take the bait
It was three groups. Students who knew nothing about music or reading music; students who knew how to read music but has little skills beyond that; and the last was students who were good at music.
That must have been fun, rolin! Are you a form or subject teacher?
and we always remember the teachers we didnt get on with and the teachers who were special to us...and we forget about all the solid work horse teachers that got us thru
there always are jen..
peers out of hole at rolin: sorry if i offended
matty...both...i have a tutor group...now going into yr 10..*sigh...i cant belive how theyve grown...and i am second in fac/teacher for english
i will never be forgettin you rollin never evr
Often teachers seem to dislike you, to challenge you to do better. Often it is better to wonder why and ask why so that you can learn. School is about preparing you for real life. LOL
lady...no offence taken..honestly..*s*...im a teacher...i have a tough hide..lol
yeah all teachers have to have a rough sid e or they wont be able to be a teacher
oooh theres a whole social treatise about the attitude to education and the training of personal responsible for leaning that this log cant afford
You're so right rolin
thats cool rolin as i know how much crap teachers get and how much crap parents let their kids get up to and not take responsiblity. I say you for the teachers they should get paid more.
and i am loathe to say it.. attitude to education is different here as compared to aus
OK, I've got stuck. Just can't see the se 6/27. Any clues going?
They care less? Or is it more tough as opposed to Australia?
rolin i heard that in some parts of england companies sponser schools as there is no funds?
rolin are any of your best mates the other teachers at school and herinfernallady what if some peeps have bad times at home all the time
not there yet anf
Angb Sparkly things you sew on your dress
Doh. Thx Frances
Angb You're welcome
no sydnie...i have a good time with other teachers but we are not 'best mates'
sydnie home life for some kids is really hard, one of the schools my friends went to the teachers stayed till 6 or 7 at night so kids can get breaks, as for poo home life speaking to teachers, doctors or school counselors can help
jen..i have this belief that...because schooling is indeed free in this country...it has no value...if it doesnt cost..it has not worth
education is supposed to be free here until you're 19, but the "voluntary" fees are becoming less and less voluntary, since schools aren't getting enough funding at all levels. >_<
oh cool i think lots of students have spreded rumers about two teachers young ones
sydnie....enough
ok i weren gunner say anythin after all i am only a typical twelve year old
jen my old high school made you buy a computor as it was compulsory then made you pay funds so my parents bought the computer then went no fees
jen...yeah..i know..but the ironic upside to that is...if parents have to pay...they seem to be more prepared to ensure they 'get there moneys worth'
sydnie nasty rumors about teachers is not cool, some teachers have done nothing wrong and had their whole lives ruined
yeah i know that is what im say in that it is wrong its nothin horriblr though
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!1
so you report what you think is total bull to the principle and let them sort it out befor it turns to a mushroom, there is alway someone in charge you can speak to sydnie just here isn't the place
ok..im gonna take a rest...theres laundry to do..fun ..fun..
bye rolin
see ya Rolin
bye rolin i better do my laundry aswell but cant be bothered
dinner brb
herinfernfernallady i dont tatle tale im affraid to say

you are a lucky woman matty!
anyone need clues before i go off to bed?
does anyone have the di6/21?
Not always, sadly. He's also the hard cider fairy, the falling asleep and snoring in front of the TV fairy, the pub fairy and the chest hair in the drain fairy.
Please, the first se 5/14.
te5/12, please.
I meant the first s5 /14
the second one. ^^;
Forget that - obviously time for bed.
rolin, add an ending to the di4/5, sort of a plural ending
angb, st5/14 is male deer with an extra vowel
te5/12 is te** to the sheep (or business) with an extra vowel in it, it wraps around the Q.
rofl matty!!
obviously he's a manly man!!
yah fran
It's going to be a hot one today.
thanks, Fran. :)
yw jen!
odd word the te5/12, thanks for the clue fran

verna se6/27 sparkly thing you sew on your dress
last se4 is se* that down over here, double the last consonant
mine is asleep, but if i wake him he'll say he WAS watching the tv
Aww Fran - that's tough. I've been known to throw pillows, water, soft toys - anything to get him awake. My daughter's taken a picture of him sleeping on her phone - I'll have to get it downloaded LOL
fireworks. :D
MVA, I know EXACTLY what you mean - "I was watching that" he whines, plantively. "But...you were snoring" you reply. "Was not...!"
Congrats Gen.
yay jen!!!
congrats jen!
Thanks! ^^
how do you know my husband matty?
I married him LOL!
lol matty and mva! i guess the same mold gets used a lot!! i love him to death though, he's a great provider and father.
many thanks Frances & Franmag how did I miss those
yw verna.
verna
You're welcome
Do I need a fish for the na5/10?
maybe matty, it's in the grids a lot
it's one of those words that only appears as a plural
Got it - pass the fish, please!
i don't think there is one in the grid today!

Hi MVA just in for a bit as well.
morning, gardengirl!
Lara, i wish you and the girls could go to the parade with us today ;(
what's blooming in your garden? I've got huge bouquets of magic lilies right now!
been domesticated, ironed for 2 hours!!
Just the weather for ironing - not!
my lbeautiful ilies have gone by... but I have gorgeous echinachea
yeah me too We are going out for breakfast so I gotta run
nothing blooming in my garden, rabbit eats evrything!
have fun... later
Hi all
oh, love echinachea--wish I had more blooms to go along with all the foliage!
hey, tiny!
hi tiny
hi unea-I've got lilites, lots of roses, mounds andmounds of bee balm, the tomatoes will ripen in about a week, there are increidbly cute baby melons, and the strangest yellow/zucchini squash mutants I've ever seen-planted two species close to each other. The zucchini was clearly dominant, as they are fine, but the yellow crook necks are doing all kinds of remarkable things-yellow and green strips, neon yellow green, oddly shaped. Haven't cooked them yet but will probably taste just fine. Oh, and now that you mention it, lots of echinachea
hi tiny
ta4/5,been monkeying for ages, hints pls
I've also got enough basil to fill the world with pesto. Have already put up enough for us for the winter. Time to start giving it away.
hey, eva! I see you're earlier in the season than here . . . sounds like you've got a lush garden! It's been a real struggle here with the extreme heat and drought . . . finally got some rain yesterday . . . whew!
can someone help with di 6/
ta + ** (vowel, plural letter), you + me = **
them
di4/5 with pl ending, sounds odd but works
yes-we're zone 4....very short growing season. Our problem was that for June it rained pretty much every day. The flowers loved it, but not the veggies. But as soon as the sun came out they sprang to life. I know, last year we had a scorcher, but this year has been less bad, especially when I see what you guys have been going through.
thanks ypsigirl
i wish i could have a garden but my neighbour keeps posioning and ripping out my plants cause hes mean
my poor magic lilies beat their brains out trying to break thru the hard dirt and once we got some rain, overnite I had 15 pop thru!!
yw, I am baning my head over a 4/5 over here too.. hate that
what are magic lilies?
LOL!!
lycoris--here's a pic: http://www.freenaturepictures.com/asse ts/images/medres/lilies3.jpg
ta + you and me = ** this is for ypsigirl
beautiful!
foliage comes up in the spring, dies back, then when all the daylilies and hybrids have bloomed out, they pop up--love 'em!
une i love my plant thats now safe in the bathroom as my butt hole neighbour tried to kill it with soappy water
they're lovely une - i've never heard of them. i have a lot of oriental lilies but the japanese beetles love them too.
good morning everyone
i'll shut up about flowers but really, magic lilies are so wonderful--I've planted quite a few but I also have some coming up every year that were planted back in the 50s by the original owner of my house
i'll shut up about flowers but really, magic lilies are so wonderful--I've planted quite a few but I also have some coming up every year that were planted back in the 50s by the original owner of my house
sounds like it's time to move? I could not stand a neighbor like that. I love my garden and flowers too much... but it happens, have a friend whose neighbor killed her tomato plants
what's wrong with your neighbor?! Ohmygod!
exactly une
i dont have a garden but I have a terrace and I planted impatiens and lobelia and they are so pretty and cheerful.
evening / morninf Annie
that's ok uneaixoise, I am thinking of running out and buying some magic lillies, best to plant in spring?
hems
hi tiny
apparently i'm to help clean out a fish pond! Joy!! bbl
my neighbour is nor right in the head and yes i am going to move soon, going home tommorrow to water plants and hope to rescue the cannas i got growing, its winter here
OOPS !!!!!!!
sheet
no, foliage comes up in spring--best to plant in the fall--you'll love them!
i love that part of gardening - remembering when you first planted a flower or who gave them to you.
Tiny! LOL!
Dang I did it again
saddest thing is my neighbour new that the plant he tried to kill is a memorial plant to a dear friend that past on
I have reg lillies, the yellow and the burnt orange, but all the flowers have gone, don't know if they will come back, am hoping, there were glorious a few weeks ago
so true! I've got flowers and plants that came from my mom and my grandmother, as well as a good friend's mom who loves wildflowers
herinfernallady, we need to have an intervention with your neighbor!!
LOL Tiny, I have (almost) done that a million times today,
I only do it after chatting
une i had a baby aloe vera plant stolen that was a rescue and i have had all the cannas ripped out of the garden but the joke was on them as the bulbs werent removed so now they are growing again
why do they hate your garden?
is it some kind of feud?? Do you know why this is happening? That would have me in a straitjacket!
my neighbour is a sick f.... and he doesn't like me ergo destroy what i love the most
my girlfriend did cannas for the 1st time this year. she has a big yard, they look so good.
good grief!!
yes une it sadly is a feud of sorts, its very converluted
shame on bad neighbors!
he doesn't respect anyone but him, i am moving next year but my witch lilli as i have called it is happy eating up the heat and damp that is my bathroom and when im there i water it once a fortnight and put it out the front for the sun
how does utes not be a word
we'll all celebrate when you move next year!!
takes utes and change that 2nd vowel
yps its an aussie thing, utes are plural of ute which has the dog in the back
im done good night
bye!
I don't get it, ha ha... good night
wow, 3 greek letters in one grid!
4 if count the plural ;)
true!
ata, who's the ebony beauty??
my baby!!! that's Hobbit :) my (very scruffy looking and very hot) spaniel
adorable!
she's an absolute sweetheart and my constant companion! I'm sure she thinks she's human
love spaniels and yours looks so sweet
beautiful dog ata, is she your only pet
I love spaniels too - I love getting to look at Haz's Spangle pic every morning!
ty pabtrek :) nope, we have her and a teenage beauty queen tabby kitten/cat
so would you consider yourself a dog person or a cat person
Ata, refresh to see my mom'
oops--my mom's springer on his birthday this year!
I personally consider myself an animal person because I can't choose :)
oh GORGEOUS! what a wonderful pic!
me 6/24?
unuea-with the house we inherited fall blooming crocuses, which completely baffled me the first year. They send up large tulipy kinds of leaves in the spring, you keep expecting something else to happen, and then it all dies away. The nothing, absolutely nothing, until the fall, when beautiful purple flowers apear, much bigger than regular crocuses.
3 Greek letters, but no daily Latin word!
and the volcano's back!
I suppose I'm a cat person, I've always had cats, and Hobbit is my first dog. But I absolutely adore her, and she's definitely helping to convert me dog-wards. But really I just love all animals
ypsigirl-plural of netty things
netty things? I must be slow this morning??
Ata, I'm just the opposite--was always a dog person (terribly allergic to cats as a child) but am very fond of my friend's cat who acts like a dog!
your screen windows have me__ , or the TV show Mash with a different vowel. Then pluralize
me6 is plural of me4
oh geez duh, slap slap must get to caffeine
it really is the individual animal ... some dogs can be horrid, some cats can be even horrider!
thanks
yw
very true, they all have their own personalities ata
my friend's cat is not only black and fat and beautiful, she's very chatty!
awwwww fat black cats are so beautiful
also fat black and white ones(-: (Don't tell Merp he's fat-he claims he's just long haired)
anyone have the se6?
grace-sparkkly things on your dress
I have a couple of cats that claim they're long-haired too.
merp is certainly gorgeous!
Merp's adorable, Eva--there's a neighborhood black and white (chubby) cat who spends lots of time in my yard--when I take my dogs out, they run to greet him and he just ambles off grumbling :-)
here's my little hobbit gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29022965@ N00/sets/72157594216935004/ (apologies for the stupid url!)
not I Grace
and I wish my cat was "long-haired"! I've only just about got her to stop looking anorexic! she's half Burmese so really she's a tiny thing
read an article a few days ago about how bad it is for ones pets to be overweight and how owners of the round persuasion are more likely to have rotund pets. Seems true in our case. Althoiugh I really and truly don't overfeed him-he gets less than recommended, but is an indoor cat and also middle aged-and just seems prone to gaining weight. Ata-those breeds prettymuch always are long and thing and sleek.
I know Eva ... but she really was *scrawny*! She was 3lb at a year old - she's now gained 2lbs in the last few months woohoo and looks sleek and gorgeous!
You might have some se6s on your dress. They're shiny.
wow, that is thin! Was she a foundling? Do you have a pic? Merp was always around 13 and a half pounds but over the past two years has edged up into the high 14's (longer fur of course)
thx bobka@
thx bobka
4 4-letters left!
time for some human breakfast. Merp had his hours ago.See you later.
nope - we got her from our next door's neighbour, whose pedigree burmese cat accidentally met a tabby farm cat .... she's just always been *tiny*. Her brothers are huge great big strapping farm cat type things! And she's always eaten loads, just never really gained much weight until recently.
fireworks!

yes, it did. i have a question for you. my daughter has a lovely garden that she started 3 years ago and she has deer breakfasting at her house. what can she use on the flowers that will not harm the deer and keep them away from her flowers?
gardengirl, I'm back--zoned out playing with photocards on Smilebox
there are all kinds of natural repellents. my husband has been known to pee out in the garden-ewww. It did help! I have also heard that salt licks away from your garden help.
annie, here's some info: http://www.lotf.com/misc/deer/deer.htm
i've heard that too, gardengirl--human urine will keep them away . . . hmmmm
also human hair sprinkled around the garden
thanks, garden and une.....will pass it on to liz....i'm sure my grandsons will be happy to oblige with the urine remedy!

speaking of la boheme, did anyone see "kate & leopold" w meg ryan and hugh jackman as the duke? i love the scene where the duke tells off meg's boss for not knowing jack (pun intended) about la boheme...the problem with is that the duke supposedly time travelled to present day ny from the year 1876 and la boheme wasnt written until 1896..so he couldnt possibly know about..these films are so unrealistic..hahaha
Vic - I just noticed the Dolores Umbridge clue - GREAT one!

so before stidmama begins the story, let me tell you all about the Quiet Coyote. The QC is made by holding your pointer and ring fingers up and your middle two and thumb together - should look vaguely coyote-like
okay, have an EARLY flight back home tomorrow, so better get some sleep
Playwoman I have 12 words. We should race! I'm not good at racing though since I always get distracted.
You go, playwoman. It's closer than I'm gonna get. I'll hang in for a few more minutes to see if you get fireworks.
Do you meanthe first ha5/12, Min? It has o do with what's on the end of of your arms minus the 4th letter and plus the second vowel
fiz, lol, I'm going to use that when school starts up again . . .
The QC has it's ears open, mouth closed - when you see someone holding it aloft, you close your mouth, open your ears, and make one and hold it up yourself
okay, really leaving now -- goodnight, all! *poof*
ty all for the clues! i got booted off and just got back on
Finished. Huzzah.
We went up to Fry's computer store (new hard drive needed for my laptop), and then the boys wanted to go to Laser Quest... so Mother and I went to Trader Joe's (a specialty food shop that has some nice items).
Good night Jen!
oh i LIKE that fiz. perfect for kindergarten
YAY leigh!
Fiz, sounds like what I used to do as leader of a troop of gigly girl guides, worked like a charm
lbd, I didn't fall asleep; I'm working on my grid. I've found I can't get the words in the hint box and the conversation in the chat box if I try to do both at once! :)
jen, works GREAT with little kids - and safe travels! it's a sort of social pressure thing - in a positive way - and the kids get to participate.
yay leigh!
Tom took the boys to Laser Quest.... I don't do flashing lights or loud noises -- brings on migraines in no time.
hi Nef!
Mama-Trader Joe's has the best single serving cheesecakes.
are we having story hour tonight?
And thank you, guys. =)
Yay leigh!
it looks like you can see the flames of the fire now, doesn't it?
Yes, TO -- was about to start. will that be okay with everyone, or should I wait for more to finish the grid?
nef - where are you watching?
leigh are they frozen? i don't remember them... ofcourse, single serving in my house is probably four serbings everywqhere else...
yay, leigh!
46 words left, haven't used the clue list yet.
Hey, Stid, I'm dying to interrupt your story---
Congratulations leighprefect on your fireworks!YAY!
TJ's also has great varieties of trail mix, too. Wish one were closer

G'night, TO
Thank you SO much Leigh!
No, leigh, stay! sit here with me - i've got snacks...
oh leigh, i thought you said you were leaving
Welcome, play
Okay, three votes for daughters, one for grands. Daughters tonight, grands next time.
Well Playwoman, hope you finish with a bang. But I'll miss it. Sox are losing, eyes are closing, so must sign off for tonight. Nite all.
it is IN the park lbd
please stay, have some iced tea and popcorn
The descriptions in the first chapter were the three middle girls. Tonight we will meet the eldest daughters.
good night mom23!
the buildings have all been wrapped in foil to save them. --i should say further into the park
wrapped in foil?
the grands we have always with us. Daughters are more ephemeral
feather, it's a fire retardant wrap that looks like foil
ohh
*holds Quiet Coyote in the air*
i'm picturing people out there with little rolls of aluminum foil wrap
*holds QC up*
i'm wondering if anyone has a three legged rock for sale?
I will be leaving eventually
QC QC QC everyone hush!
*sorry, story time...*
qu5/16!
<whispers to lbd> my Sis worked at the gate entrance of Glacier NP for 5-10 years as a Ranger in the 70's and 80's; that's why I'm so interested in this)
The eldest daughter had been 15 when her father left home. She was the eldest child -- and so much of the responsibility of caring for the others fell to her.
*sighs happily and settles into story mode*
Thanks for the good wishes Mom23. Sweet dreams
tree-legged rock?
She left off going to school without complaint, though, and settled into a routine: Getting up with her mother and going out to see to the animals.
my mom says she only has a five-legged one
<whispers back to Nef> i can appreciate your interest and concern.
lol, sorry folks, typed that in the wrong box, carry on
She would milk the goats, feed the chickens and water the horses.
She would milk the goats, feed the chickens and water the horses.
Good thing she didn't try to milk the chickens
Her brother, just two years younger, would walk the cow and her calf out to the pasture at the edge of the village and leave them with the village cowherd.
Her next eldest sister would gather the eggs from the henhouse and check the pigs' water.
By the time they got back to the kitchen, their mother had breakfast well started, with steaming hot cups of tea ready for their chilly fingers.
what about their empty tums?
<i dip cookies in my tea, not my fingers!>
can I stop carrying on? waaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaa
As soon as they had finished their breakfast, the brother and his younger sister would go wash up and get dressed for school, while the eldest sister helped the three middle sisters get up and get dressed.
Hi Mom, HI HETTY!!!
The mother by this time, was making sure the youngest two were clean and comfortable, and soon sat in the rocking chair by the kitchen stove to nurse the baby.
*hands byzantine a beanbag chair and scoots over to make room*
OH, sorry.
Hi Stidmatt!!! How was the Laser thingy?
OH, sorry
Laser Tag was great! I was doing pretty bad, but wasn't last once.
ah4/6, matt and hetty, it's qu5/16 time
As the eldest brother and his sister walked off to school, they picked up the basket of knitting and sewing their mother and sister had finished for the neighbors. They would deliver these during their lunch break.
Good. Now be quiet, make a QC ith your fingers, and listen to your mom
SE6/27 anyone?
pretty round shiny things on a dress
Play, sparkly things on a costume

The three middle sisters, full of energy, would wiggle as they ate, and tended to upset the jugs on the table, so the eldest sister patiently stood by, ready to help them serve and clean up. She also made sure her little brother had his bowl of gruel with a little bit of honey -- or, when they were ripe, fresh berries from the little patch next to the well.
Oh, how cold I have missed that?!?! Thanks, Annie
yw, have some popcorn
mmm, gruel
And so, as the seasons came and went, the eldest sister learned about children, about managing the household, about making a home.
with honey or berries...drool
*scoots to fridge to get raspberries from the garden for everyone*
*grabs a handful...thanks Fiz*
In no time at all, it seemed, she had matured into a strong, intelligent, beautiful woman. Her brown hair and sober brown eyes leant her an air of dignity, even as her delicate figure and dancing feet and ready smile gave her grace.
*hands lbd several paper towels*
in fact she sounds a lot like Stidmama
She soon caught the eye of the son of a metalsmith, who had learned his trade well -- and they married and moved to a town that had need of his skill.
*thanks again Fiz*
Meantime, the son grew into a tall, strong man, with skill in many areas, but a special talent for wood working and a love of story-telling.
wonder where he got that from?
He was able to find an apprenticeship in the village on the other side of the mountain; and so with tears of pride in her eyes, his mother watched him begin his own journey through life.
Only 4 to go! I'm really excited
Good story stid
Yay Playwoman! You can do it!
In these years, the next eldest daughter had developed a talent for needlework. As her sister and brother left home, she naturally began to help her mother around the house and garden, and soon became a fine cook.
thanks playwoman -- ask for clues anytime!
these family traits are most pronounced, are they not?
**sneaks in quietly soo excited i'm here for storytime**
I sometimes write stories, more frequently when I was younger, about science fiction/fantasy.
*passes popcorn to debbinla*
*scootches over and points deb toward extra beanbags and pillows*
I found testes
*Whispers to Nef...check out the webcam, you can see flames now.*
in fact your stories, stid, are exactly as Tolstoy noted about happy families. Let's snuggle closer
The middle sisters were becoming good helpers, and when they were not in school they took care of the yard and the animals. All four of these girls were quite in demand around the village as helpers when mothers needed extra hands for canning or looking after the children when a new baby was born, and often helped younger children with schoolwork when they fell behind.
I needed extra hands once myself
<Lbd, I know, I'm continuing to watch. You notice the truck?>
hi all
Now the eldest girl who was still at home was the very image of her mother at the same age: fair skin with rosy cheeks, a smile hovered constantly around her lips and made her blue eyes twinkle; and her dusty blonde curls were always falling out of the ribbons she used to tie them back.
sit down nrkii
*whispers "hi nrk"*
*Hi nrkii, we are doing storytime with stidmama.* said in a whisper.
Hi nrkii ! HUSH though, storytime---
Hi nrkii ! HUSH though, storytime---
hetty, from anna karenina, :"happy families are all alike, every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way"
Her hands always had something in them: a bit of mending, a gift for a friend, a piece of lace she hoped to sell at the market.
hi nrkii, have some tea and popcorn!
back and hi everyone!
That's right A=nnie! Oh you're as quick as a whip
I'm missing 2 words: se6-27 and the an8. Any help?
hi muse, story time
ohhhh, I wish I could stay for storytime -- having a horrible evening though, so just stopping in for a moment of cheer before bed
The few times she sat still, she usually had a book, and often her younger brother would sit on her lap while she read.
stid, your storytelling is wonderful
***thanks for popcorn annie and beanbag fiz****

sorry to hear nrkii, hope you feel better
It didn't matter to him if she was reading a cookbook, a novel, or a book about far-away lands... the sound of her voice and the rustle of the pages fascinated her.

One day, while sitting at the market with her laces and such, she caught the eye of a man who was visiting the town.
sleep well inge!
This man was a merchant in a town by the river on the plain, and was impressed with her skill.
night inge
Down to only TWO, but I need help with TE5/12 (the second one)
Week after week, month after month, he returned to the market, and soon became a regular customer.
chompers Play.
play - what you chew with
you have 32 of them in your mouth
*smiles wide at play to expose her te5/12*
I know what
's going to happen.
Oh, I love it when a new character enters a story!
ooooh don't tell stidmatt
Of course, when her eldest sister had her first baby, the child had a lovely layette made for her with ribbons and bows. The ribbons were from the merchant.
No. the second te5/12
Who is he? What will he do? Please go on stidmama!
umm, play, that is the 2nd. there are 3
When her second child was born, he had a fancy suit made for his first going out, with fancy work on the collar and pearl buttons all up and down. The buttons were from the merchant.
Ooh. Sorry. I mean the 3rd
*humming softly, love is in the air*
te + ***ustry
te5/12 = te + not the beginning, change first letter
Now, this merchant was quite a bit older than the girl, and had three children of his own, about the age of her younger sisters.
He had been widowed suddenly when an epidemic swept through his town, and had hired a housekeeper who was very efficient and caring in her own way. But she was not the same as a mother to his children.
Help. my messages keep aborting. I'll give up
*catches a whiff of may-december*
It didn't take very long before the merchant decided to ask for the girl's hand in marriage.
Thank you, thank you!
No, hetty, you can still give some clues!
like Chaucer's Tale
She, for her part, enjoyed the talk of the goings-on in the bigger town, and appreciated the pretty ribbons and gee-gaws the merchant sold on his trips through the village.
sounds like Edna Ferber.....
was he a snapper up of ill-considered trifles by any chance?
She dreamt of seeing the big houses, and the rumble of big wagons on wide cobbled streets.
Her mother was not so sure...
First, she invited the merchant to tea, and carefully watched how he treated all the children.
mother are always wise---
oohhhhh, the plot thickens....stid, this is great
He showed her little boy how to turn a stick into a reasonable fishing pole.
i'm not worried about the merchant - i'm worried about how his kids will react to their young stepmom
He held the baby in his arms and took her around the house and yard, lifting her up so her eager hands could explore every inch of her home.
good evening -- 29 left -- am stuck on the se6/27 help!
sorry to interrupt the story, but I DID IT! MY FIRST TIME! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
debbinia..can you say sweep?

On his next visit, he brought a new kettle to the Mother, explaining that it was too badly dented for him to sell... and a book of geography for the little boy, with many pictures of far-away lands to look at.
yay to play!! and sweeeeeet sweeping to chj
OOOOH, I love Geography!
He brought three small stools, just the right size, for the middle girls to embroider as their own.
He brought the baby a special box, with secret latches and hidden drawers filled with bags of spices and bells.
beltran..beltran..beltran..is he hot or what..like last year with the 'stros
*he sounds too good to be true!*
what neat gifts!
And he brought the young woman yards of lovely cloth, to make warm jackets for everyone in the family.
he was one of the killer b'zzzz
*points QC at chj and debb* baseball talk after the story, kids
deed he was ren
In the winter, when it was too cold to garden or sit at the market, he took the whole family to his town to meet his children.
******sorry i do love the story so****
sorry fiz
His house was not overly large, but it was comfortable. His children were not angels, but they obviously loved him.
oppps..better change thumbs...
*they need a momma*
The three children had heard quite a bit about the young woman, and so were shy around her at first, but soon were bringing their best treasures to show.
Looks like the Sound of Music.
The housekeeper, a stern grandmotherly type, provided a splendid dinner their last evening there. And the merchant treated her with as much respect as he treated the mother of his intended bride.
I'm loving this story, but really must go unpack and go to bed... will chat and play tomorrow
thanks for the hugs
good night all!

Congratulations Playwoman on your fireworks! YAY!
stidmatt saw that one a mile away...
good night nrkii.
Yup, I did.
ut4/5?
wtg playwoman!
The young woman and her husband drove off in a large carriage, with a shower of flower petals raining down from the trees.
stidmatt, has insider information!
No, I just know a lot of stories, and that usually happens.
just teasing stidmatt
as Tolstoy said---
*I need to go back a bit....* The TWINS, all this time, had been helping in the garden, going to school, learning how to care for the animals.
ut4/5 is ut plus ** Good ** it Gets mrchiguy.Sorry stid
ut+first vowel+snake
Okay.
When their elder brother had gone away, they had naturally assumed much of the responsibility for the animals, and rapidly got strong enough to harness oxen to carts or put shoes on horses.
thx!
of course - they're such good children
They were not very interested in school, so as soon as they could, they found jobs helping anyone they could with any tasks they had.
and so task-oriented always
Men of all trades, they became, and soon gained a reputation for hard work and honesty.

nothing wrong with that!
Nevertheless, they often found themselves rolling in the dirt over some imagined slight or insult...
usually with each other.
mud wrestlers?

But occasionally they would tangle with strangers who thought they were too young or too poorly educated to know what was right.
bullies!!!
The strangers never came out ahead in these transactions.
yeah!
Good e'en StidMama.

To avoid trouble, the village sheriff pulled them aside one day and taught them three things:
hello dear riemann! stidmatt -- are you on? say hi to uncle riemann.
What three things stidmama she asks impatiently.
28 left... always have trouble with the 8-letters...
ooh lessons from the sheriff! scary
an8/45?
*holding breath, turning blue*
The three things were: How to tell if an insult is intended (the person won't look you in the eye); whether an issue is worth fighting for (are you willing to spend the night in jail for it); and how to disable someone without actually hurting him.
*very blue*
annie breathe!!!!!

Hi riemann! How is it going?
Soon after this, the twins' reputation evened out somewhat -- and they settled down into a routine that suited everyone:
Those are good lessons in life stid! We should all take heed!
yay pbr!!!!!
*returning to a pink color*
thank goodness for the intervention!
Mom's telling a story!
yipee pbr
They woke up early and took care of their family's animals, then went to the market and helped the vendors set up.
You can get the rest and all of today's (later) on Babbler's Anonymous.
an8... thanks!
can't find se6/27?
hey ish - glittery thingies on ladies evening gowns
I guess the third lesson,Stid, was how to "hirdle" your foes---?
In the middle of the day, they could often be seen fishing (in good weather) or working around the Inn (fetching and carrying wood and water and traveler's goods) or sitting at home, taking care of the two youngest children while their mother worked around the house or helped neighbors.
stag
se6/27 = a shiny dot sewn on gowns
HIDE!!!
ty
In the evenings, like all young men, they would visit the Inn to catch news of the wider world, or attended dances or parties, trying to catch the eye of one young woman or another.
lots of eyecatching in this story
roll an eye my way please
boys will be boys
And so the years went on, the eldest daughter had a large family, all fine strong children with winning ways and serious minds, just like their mother.
The eldest brother married and started his business and his family.
who wasjust like someone we all know and love
and their grandmother!
boys will be boys ..... there are relatively few other options
(ie. the eldest daughter, not the son)
*rolls eyes at rennie*
The next eldest daughter married a family and then had one of her own -- a lovely but delicate little girl.
about whom we shall undoubtedly hear more
fiz....(:-P
And the children at home grew and learned, and their mother was proud and happy.
And the father had missed all of this, because he was away.
as she deserved to be.
delicate as in fragile or petite?
*I think this is a good stopping point -- went on about the twins for longer than I meant to...*
mollycoddled
*whispers to rennie* you asked for it, champ
Oh, don't stop, Scherezade
