ack too many french words
Too many people are fudging up in the chat tonight! You all need some sleep!
how on earth do you think of french words off the bat like that?
Okay....so there's this weed that grew into a tree in our neighbour's back yard, and it is now carrying...something. It almost looks like a lime, but without a waxy coat. And it smells like a lemon, but once you cut into it, it almost has a pine smell to it. But you can't cut it all the way. There's some sort of hard rock-like thing in the middle.
leigh, :-P
An who told you you could tell us all go go to bed, Leigh? I mean, you might be a prefrect,but...
wow leigh! sounds interesting.
*snickers @ Jac* Er, Dumbledore did, during yesterday's grid. He came to me in my dream.

You know, I am absolutely hopeless at cryptics. It must have got through to me somehow, but it was at a subconscious level.

rolin Give my love to Melbourne. Used to go every year as sons grandparents lived in Essendon - next door to Mooney Ponds. Loved it. Even went for a picnic at Hanging Rock
It's a quarter to three. There's no one in the place except me...la la la!!

i adore vancouver... i could live there happily im sure

rearrange the letters in Santa's helper for the 3rd through 5th letters
and then you have to *u**s the rest!
I am sorry Susan.I don't get it??
I know, it's a nightmare. You got the so...now think Santa's helper rearranged for the next three letters
OK loaded up the theme now.

It's a musical term, I think, about singing syllables or something...
I still don't get it! But don't worry! I am really bad t this so i probably won't get any of the clues that you give me! lol....
Morning all!
don't say that maddie!! you are good at this!!
jillibus There is for the singular!
Yes, kiwi, jillibus. Just eating my dinner. Partner "cooking". Sausages and chips again.

hi everyone
In your dreams RPC!!!! LOL! You have seen me do this when you are over...and you are the ones that gets all the words!!
Maddie, so+the first three letters of the word which is opposite to right (rearranged), then the seventh letter of the alphabet, followed by the second vowel and then make it plural.
Hi Jebcard
now THAT did it for me, thanks susan.
scv - "whispers -it's the bottom e"
yw, scv
then i'll throw a very quiet thank you over your way, fmitch

That's great.
Yes i know!! How good is that!?....lol!! MIRACLE FOR ME!! lol
I don't know how any of us got that one.
oh yes, I see - the singular is a vocal exercise
Does anyone have the last eg6/24?
no srry
gotit now
eg6/24 - medieval latin (of course) means the act of going
!! Excellent!
Thank you!
I kept going in the wrong direction!
Doh! and add an r to the front for a 7/36
i do not have an i words any clue
Morning all
Thank you FMitch!
Hi Sprite
i was going the wrong way as well
Hey sprite
both related to extreme cold, taz.
o tyvm
yw
Hi. I've a problem...
How are you all doing?
Susan time for me to thank you, so obvious when you now how Hey matty, where you been?
lots
Spilled beer on my laptop. Kaplooee. Any suggestions?
Only one, matty? You must be a happy person ;)
thank me for what FMitch? You helped me...
for the i's Susan :)
drink beer from a sippy cup? jk
oh, glad I could help!
Quit drinking beer? Noooooooo!
ROFL taz!!
matty I'm no help. Recently had an accident with a happy dog (wagging tail) and a glass of water all over laptop. Now I can't get it to switch on. Resorting to steam PC
lol i would unplug it pop the keys off and vlean it
With water it should be enough to let it dry thoroughly. But with beer you will need cleaning. Like taz here says.
I could try that. Even if I have to pay for a repair, I hope it can BE repaired - I'd hate to have to replace it. *sigh* LOL Taz! I'll remember that next time!
Matty turn keyboard upside down...and leave to dry on a warm radiator!
Now where can one find a warm radiator this time of year... any babblers who want to help out?
do you have a better suggestion????
i can't believe its been hours already
I've tried all those and it is now completely dry. The indicator lights come on but the laptop itself will not come on
Just helping with filling in the details of the solution.
9 j's...*mumble grumble*...have 6...*mumble grumble*
Woohoo it's "only" going to be 73 degrees today. I might actually be able to get some work done.
I've got all but one of the j's, rolin, if I can help..
73? i'd kill for that
of course, it's not really unbearable heat here, but it gets pretty bad
It's cooling down here a bit as well and we all live up now. And I have zero js, rolin! Will go look.
es 5/10?
Hey rolin, one of your , er, little munchkins was looking for you yesterday at great length and volume.
HAHA i went to check the weather for tomorrow just now and i see a warning- "dangerous heat to hit east coast tomorrow, triple digits"
cool.. i have the misspelt rolling stone and the pl..i jae the humour ones..and the nice car pl..
Susan-Victoria Take the a out of a religious festival
oooh mitch..was she very awful?
Thank you Frances!
she was more than one this time and was being called a troll by a number of babblers
You're welcome
I have 8 of the 9 js, if you need any help. But I haven't got the list yet.
o.k., here's a je that's a name
well if dr_god bans her then good...she/they have to learn
ecuxe me what is a jae humor and a rolling stone?
then another that's a joke, and plural
oppressive and dangerous heat. inspiring!
then there's a royal joke-maker
typo taz...i 'have' those
i dont rolin lolol
lol taz...think of another name for joke..the extend it
taz, she means Mick of the Stones
like the royal one> got it
Before the Rolling Stone is a ja6/39 which is a very expensive clothing shop
ty got mick now
That's the one I can't get, FMitch!
ooh mitch..i thought that would be capitalised..thx
Same as Mick but with additional letter
I have one some underwear is made of.
underwear??..hmm
I'm lost on that one.
Doctors keep a "p"ager in their pants, but if they kept a pager in their jeans? Then of course there is the plural as well
Itchy stuff, rolin.
numerical value pls?
Got it! Thank you all!
Ja6/39. Insert a vowel into Ja5/24.
Thx Sprite
yw :)
je 5.20 pls?
jokes, taz
Plural of Je4/9
ohh, i missed that before, too. thanks
this is why i'm good at crosswords and nothing else.
i'm just halfway done now
hmm got the joke ones guess i am screwed up
there are 3 joke-related ones
is there a second ja 6.39?
Good morning all.
HA!.have the j's..
Morning Haz
Yes, there is. Plural of 5/24.
yes, but there's (to) joke, jokes, joker, taz
Hi Haz
and there's a name. the 6/39's are almost the same word
This looks like an interesting grid!
well ty one it would not accept but now it finally did ty
So there are 3x 6/39, Susan?
Good morning Haz Good words to be found today
Hi Haz!
i haz
2 x 39 and a 33 sprite
I don't think so, Sprite...2 ja 6/39's
Morning Haz....how are you?
hiya Haz
Ok, have those. One J to go :)
|'m fine, thanks for the greetings all! It's wet here again today, so good excuse for staying in and babbling.
ors? I've got the two small ones
Just looked up to see it is raining here too, Haz! Finally!
Yes its very wet here too, last night....wonderful!
John Prescott reminder ja4/11.
just got one...a wild, rude party
i've never seen anyone so excited about rain!
Haz, are they the nice cars? Or is there another?
It's been so very hot here, scv, for a long time. Rain and coolness are like a touch of heaven right now :)
We have a lot of drought restrictions at the moment SCV so decent rainfall is very welcome.
Just the nice cars, sprite. John Prescott's nickname is two-ja4/11.
ah, i see
Has he still got both of them Haz?
Ah, thanks Haz, did not know that. I have: ja x 4, je x 3, jo. Could someone please tell me what I am missing?
Have changed my icon to an appropriate ice cream one...
you
sprite...you need the girls name je4
I don't know to be honest. Perhaps he and his wife use one each....
you're missing a je, Sprite
Awwwww... dragon ice!
in the summer i dont really think of rain and coolness together.. just makes the air even heavier here
breaks the heat every now and again but not often!
You're probably missing the name. There was an American bandit named Je**e James
True! Thanks a lot, rolin en Susan!
Smart of you two to know which je that was!
Where abouts are you scv?
hey...im just glad to return one of all the clues youve given me.,..*s*
new york
or 6/27?
Ah OK understand your weather comments then
when i made the comment originally i forgot to take the very obvious flags next to your names into consideration :)
LOL it's easily done
Humidity and heat are a bad combination indeed. But I think the temperature here dropped with about 10 degrees Celcius here tonight, so with the rain it is pretty nice and much cooler now!
Enable mustn't value those with good oral hygiene. It won't accept fl7, one who likes to fl5/16
I really really thought 'geis' was a word. Like a solemn promise or a curse or a spell you're under?
But it will take the comparative fl8/55!
Haz, just add an 'i'
Ah but if you expand on the 5 Haz you can end up with a 7/40 and an 8/55
So enable smells from its mouth!
Thanks all. Fl5/16 has been duly used!
Did you all get the attention-asking unword P4/5? Has been in quite a few grids lately.
Yes, but I wasn't going to tell anyone....
yes, the word with no vowels
attention-askin unword?
I am the sharing kind, I know.
hah! got it.
i was wondering how lickety updates so quickly for the new grids..?
Both lickety and brandjack have programmes they have written that generate the stats when they input the grid details.
Anyone got a clue for the si word please?
The warlike one?
ohh. i was thinking something along those lines but wasn't sure if it was a sure thing.. whether it would catch every possibility
Was that my clue, sprite, or were you talking to scv?
That was yours, hydra :)
thanks v much, sprite!
Did you get that Hydra? I can't figure it out.
Susan: when you live in a castle and the enemy holds you locked in, you are under si.
I was just typing the very same thing, sprite!
Thank you Sprite!
Lol, GMTA, hydra ;)
better than what i was doing, something about the movie titled the same
I don't remember that one, scv. Who was in it?
steven seagal
scv: that might have worked just as well or better. One can never predict which clues trigger the answer in various persons.
i'm still in my first 24 hours of this babble stuff, not sure what are acceptable clues or what
No, don't think I saw it. I'm tacking the fe words now.
i've never seen it, either, actually. just popped into my head.
scr - clues can take lots of forms. Cryptic, references to general knowledge, play on words, anagrams, sound-alikes etc. You'll get the idea as you go along.
Just found a musucal 7/8 combo: So7/48 - 8/65.
Oh, well done, sprite! I haven't looked for that one yet.
Got it now. I used to play a piano piece with that title ending in 'ietto'
thanks, haz. good to know! i've got a lot of useless trivia upstairs that might come in handy.
Oh, we LOVE trivia.
I had a similar memory, hydra. scv: am looking forward to your trivia!
there should be another So, musical related that isnt there
haha, it comes out at odd times, off the cuff
hiya everyone
like that movie title, a film i've never seen or plan to. in fact, i had forgotten about it until that moment.
scv, wait till you meet Douglas then and his free clue assosication
Works for me more often than not, Douglas's free association! :)
Douglas is really funny. He gives out clues but doesn't tell you what words they are for. It works surprisingly often!
The Douglas clues are sometimes like a flypast - straight over the top!!!
He makes me smile and I love some of the stuff he comes out with... and that too Frances
HIYA peeps
fr6/27?
Yes, Ive found that, too. You can't think what he's talking about, then it suddenly makes sense.
Susan: french taste of ice?
never mind, got it
hiya Sydnie
taste of ice?
thank you, Sprite.
hi sydnie
Hi sydnie, are you just sydnie today or multiple personalities again like yesterday?
hiya -
and im not sydnie today
Ah FMitch, is this the one(s) you told rolin about?
ah.
and on that note! time for bed.
i'm well over my halfway mark for the night anyway ;)
sprite - who told rolin what about me
Good job, scv! Sleep well!
goodnight!
Congratulations then scv and sleep well. A new addict?
WTG scv, see you again Im sure, did anyone warn you this game is really addictive?
SPRITE - who told rolin what about me
I said that you had been on looking for her sydnie and that some babblers had called you a troll as you were being a pain but then if you are not sydnie then it won't bother you.
Too late for warnings I fear, FMitch. scv will be back :)
what a bunch of snobocrats
About those Or-words: that big wild party has 3 varieties.
no i am who was on yesturday but sydnie is not my name yeah and my brothers friend was on aswell yesturday so its not my fault
snobocrats, great word!
sprite - I had a sheltered upbringing. How am I supposed to know about variations of wild parties???
Should have it in a grid someday, I like it.
good morning everybody:)
why what have you told rolin has she been on today
Haz, by means of your brilliant way with words, of course! Hi jean!
Good morning jean!
Morning Jean
FMITHCH - what did you say to rolin then
There is or6/27, or5/16, or6/24. First one sounds like a dangerous madman ma5. For the 5 leave out one vowel. The last one is plural of the party.
Read my post at 3.38 sydnie
Thanks sprite, I've got them now.
did you tell her that thenor not and has she been on this morning !!!!!!!
Someone help me here I am loosing the will to live
Don't get into a st5/12!
*sends some power to ignore straight up to FMitch*
sydnie - I think rolin was on this morning, if you need exact times, click on the view entire chat log thing and see when.
sprite, Haz :))
FMItch? Deep, steady breathing. Cleansing breaths...
oh ok then
Something I have noticed with our little flags. Some of the flags are for the UK and some are for England. And I have seen seperate ones for Scotland. I guess depending on where you live you get a choice. I would think if one lives in Northern Ireland, you would get either your own flag, or the UK one. Anyone know?
I know! I live in Northern Ireland, and have opted for the Union Jack. I think it is probably possible to opt for the Irish flag if you wanted.
And if the yoga does not help, try beating someone up, FMitch ;)
By the way, the Union Jack is the official flag of Northern Ireland since it is part of the United Kingdom.
and this is what the chat log comes to flags !!! lol
LOL 5 mins and I have to run some errands so that will suffice or maybe I will email Dr_G before I go
gaje
sydnie Better than having a go at people
Not a bad idea, FMitch!
Ten more minutes and then I'm off to cricket. Three matches this week
Haz1558 - Thank. I knew about the Union Jack for all of the UK. I just think its so cool you can pick the flag you want for your area of the world. Kinda wish those of us in the US could use the flag for our states. But I guess that would be a bit much.
yeah i spose so and if your sayin im havin a go at people thats just sad cause i dont !
We would get horribly confused with all the state flags! But I know what you mean. The US is so big and individual states have quite different 'personalities'.
France - scoring, playing or spectating at cricket?
I would welcome the chance to learn those different state flags, actually.
Haz1558 - What part of N. Ireland are you in?
I love the different birds and flowers for each state
Haz Scoring
I'm in County Antrim, boatierra, 30 miles north of Belfast.
this is gettin boring now im goin back to bed bye bye everyone
Well, the one in Arizona, would be a big star in the middle, with the lower half of the flag in blue, and the upper half being rays of yellow and red, like the rays of sunshine. Its quite nice :)
It would be nice to have those flags, I agree, boatierra. And see what just talking about flags does for people :)
Maybe it could be worked that you could have the stars and stripes so we knew you were from the States, and then have the state flag alongside. It would be educational!
Maybe that could be an icon theme for a day for all in the US
I love Haz's idea!
Good idea, FMitch.
bye bye i goin bed to sleep this is borin me now
That's exactly what I was thinking!! But then again, I thought it would be a bit much. But I like the fact I can place my curser on the flag and it tells me what country it is. Thj'
The power of flags is amazing.
But will Dr God like the idea? Maybe FMitch, as 'The Administrator' could put the suggestion to him.
It'd better be someone he will listen to then. I don't know, maybe he will like the idea.
I love flags. I have a key chain flag from each country I've been to on my backpack. Mexico, Espana, Singapore, and Brazil.
Fireworks!
before i go why is everyone talkin about FLAGS how low iz dat bye bye goin back 2 bed
Wow, that was fast. Nice work Sprite.
congratulations sprite
You traveled those countries on foot, boatierra? Great!
Wow sprite WTG
Do you suppose flag talk would bore all teenagers back to bed? Could this be a tactic to be used when the textspeak gets too much?
Well is by foot you mean via plane, sure!! ;)
Congratulations sprite!
rofl good point haz
No doubt Haz1558 lol
LOL Haz good thinking although it appears to work for pre teens too.
That's what I mean about the power of flags, haz! Boatierra: first by plane and then walking with the bagpack, I meant?
So, FMitch, you are an administrator on this site? What does that entail?
sprite - Sure :)
LOL Haz With that thought I'm of to cricket. Maybe back tonight if not too late home.
LOL Haz With that thought I'm of to cricket. Maybe back tonight if not too late home.
Bye
My toughest words to find today were Gr6/30-7/44, Not bleached or dyed; unfinished. Used of textiles
bye frances
Have fun, Frances!
lol haz - a chippy near here plays classical music over a loudspeaker to scare off the kids - same principle!
boat - I just acquired the nickname along the way as I've been babbling for a while
Fmitch, I'm sorry! I am laughing so hard about the mix-up. Do you want to explain if you're still there?
Ah, got it ;)
Dippnall - yes, I've heard the teenagers can only stomach so much Beethoven before they have to move on!
Flags and classical music... who'd have thought they could be weapons, lol. Any clues needed before I split?
Dippnall: what's a chippy?
OK, so I know that the Union Jack is used for the monikers UK, English, and Britian . So, why on here if one chooses to have the England flag, is it white with the red cross? I've never seen that one before.
I meant UK, England, and Britian. Oops.
Back from dinner now. any clues for eg 6/24 sprite?
The last eg 6/24
Time for me to go, BBL and Happy Babbling
Angb: it's Re7/36 go back in memory, drop first letter.
bye fmitch have a good day:)
Thanks for the conversation.
UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Union Jack is a combination of three of the country's flags. The English flag is that of St George, and is also featured in the Union Jack.
Ah, the first one. Let me think of a clue.
Bye FMitch. See you later.
I had got the most of that part word earlier and was looking for the re-!!!! LOL
LOL, no, the last one, and that was what the clue was for. I need to learn to read!
Thanks sprite.
yw :)
Bye FMitch!
Ohh, did not know that about the St. George flag. I knew the flag represented all those areas together, but i did not know that the flag design itself was/is a combination of the three country's flags. Good to know.
I can hear sydnie snoring peacefully.
Learned a lot about flags today and as opposite to one chatter today I found it very interesting. It would be great to have the states' flags as well. Got to go, have a nice day/night/whatever all of you and happy hunting.
LOL
Bye Sprite, have a good day!
Laters sprite. Thanks for the info :)
I am off as well. I'm sure I will be dreaming of flags. Toodles!!
Sleep well boatierra.
this is sydnies bro how actually likes my sister
Personally I love Elgar's cello concerto
Morning Haz. I previously babbled as JA. You may remember?
Beautiful music.
Love cello
Remind me, Biltong.
well does anyone here like my sister "sydnie" !!1
We chatted briefly about your trip to Kenya. I'm a South African, now living in the U.K.
And you often gave me some very useful clues.
Yes, now I do remember! Why the change of name?
now i know why she went back to bed you lot are so boring
My son's suggestion. Do you know what biltong is?
No, but I hope you're going to tell me!

We don't know sydnie all that well...
Hi Haz, Hi Biltong! Sorry , but the conversation looks interesting.
Good morning Douglas! And hello SueMagee!

biltong - dried meat?
Good morning Haz!
Hi Haz - cooler with you? It's very wet here today.
hello everyone
good morning to all who just came in
Morning Jean, morning lynxxx.
jean goodmornin
Yes, Sue, it's a lot cooler. We've had heavy rain over the past couple of days so the gardens are looking a lot greener.
I can't sleep and I lay and I think The night as hot and black as ink I'm thankful for cool cool rain today in Minnesota
My garden is breathing a sigh of relief.
It is meat (mostly beef) that is spiced, dried and cured, then eaten as a snack. Much like American jerky? When you go to Kenya you will no doubt come across it. They also do it with ostrich and venison.
am off loads of cakes to make bbl have good day everyone:)
Bye Jean.
Hence the name. Really just a little South Africanism. Ha Ha
Yes, I've heard of jerky though I've never tried it. It will be interesting to try out some new foods in Kenya.
You are in RSA, Biltong? I spent a summer in Stellenbosch in 1970...
What breed of dog is that on your profile, biltong?
He is a red Daschound, SueM
Jacques Brel wrote "My death waits like an old ..."
Bye Jean - I like the thought of those cakes.....
He's gorgeous, Biltong.
Jacques Brel probably had the glummest face known to Christendom.
Douglas, I am from South Africa but now live in the U.K.
Thanks, SueM. I love him to bits. Sadly I had to leave him with my daughter in SA.
Oh, I'd be bere4/7 if I had to leave my dogs. I've got a couple of Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
It broke my heart and I miss him dreadfully. But I know he is getting lots of love and being well looked after. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are gorgeous. We had one way back in 1976.
They're very esy dogs to have around, despite their size.
phantom fester
Sigh. "easy".

Could you do a translation, Syndie? I only speak English.
i see sydnie is here this morning
Sydnie--let it go. While you and yours seem to prefer the abbreviations and convultions of text, we will stick to spelled out words, kind of like this game
I don't think my brain has kicked in yet - fawn color? Ummm, brown?
Any one have a clue for fr 6/27?
ha ha ha funny and how old r u lot
Think skin colour - the colour old people wear.
Amandacath - are you in England? It's Terry Wogan's fave colour!
11
Angb - think raspberries.
rhymes with rage!
Ah, got it (I swear I'd monkeyed that already) - thanks Sue!
sydnie--age has nothing to do with this. r u listening. Let it go, you want text--go im with someone.
My pleasure.

Got all three Amanda. You want clues?
good evening all, i see another moron has crept into the room, have they been keeping you amused :p
Hmmm Rlee
Hi Rlee
Hi Rlee. Blessedly most of it is incomprehensible.
hi Becca
trying not to feed troll too much, but it's hard sometimes ;-)
yes please, Sue. As I said, I think my brain is on strike today - I'm not seeing much of anything.
lol
I try to ignore the pe4/5 - responding just encourages them
so anyway how is the grid tonight ?
Just a little ge 4/7.
I have one of the 8's. The re8= when you're finished shopping you take your groceries to the check out re-------
Amanda I think my brain is on strike too - must be the late night last night
Re - something our names went in at school.
Fl 8 builds on FL 5/16 and 7/40.
OK, work is calling...must start getting ready....
SE - anagram of self and ego.
Sue, once again, excellent clues. Thanks
My pleasure.
GTG for now, bbl
Thanks sue, got the fl and the re, still trying to puzzle out the se - it's not segeflo, I tried it
It's SO, Amanda.
oh, that was a useful bit of info. Got it, thanks!
silly word - TY Sue
wow sue, thanks for that clue, I actually got it, LOL
Very silly, isn't it?
thanks Sue
My pleasure. The anagram was clued earlier in the log by someone else, so I can't take credit for that.
morning all..
hi Rolin
now I need to figure out the fl word because I need to get up and out. Today's the first day back for teachers.
Morning rolin. I think you'vejust missed one of your munchkins.
no i actually avided her/them...i saw that they had been reported dr_god...i came into check if there had been any trouble and was going to do itmyself..as i did with another
love the pr 6.21 & 7.32
They're magic! Back after a phone call. Good morning to the newcomers.
has anyonegot a clue for the fe6/27 pls?
rolin - another word for sassy, less the last letter + plural
thx amanda
why cant we have the user of the dental string???
yw. How 'bout the ag6/24 and 7/36?
I agree. Tried that 3 times and it wouldn't go!!!LOL
amanda..think about ppl who against ppl who are old..and pl
ag6/24 - those with an attitude to seniority
Alt of ag 5/15 and 6/24 maybe.
Ah, had the second combo meaning that, didn't think to alter the spelling
Oops, just remembered where I heard those words. Something to do with horses isn't it?
Big brown hairy snorty things they are too. Sorry if there are any horse lovers.
yeah..it means to lease out lan for cattle or stock to feed on
I give up on the gr 6/40 and 7/44. Hope they are not more Scottish words!!!
im stuck on the fl7/40
So I tried a Scottish horse word. graise. Didn't work
Girls name Rolin
I think the fl is one of the bunnies in Peter Rabbit
Built from 5/16
gr6/30 - same ending as a buff/nude colour.
Ang - GR 7.44 is undyed fabric (ie in raw state) rhymes with age - the 7 is plural
ty both
lynxxx, thank you, I finally figured it out
is the fr6 built off the preceding 4?
Sort of. Rolin. Somebody suggested thinking of raspberries
nope - raspberries (or strawberries?)
good clue.thx
Ach, it was me said raspberries and it is, of course, strawberries. I never was good at French.
Thnx lynxxx. Had to google it in the end!
no matter, Sue. My French is next to non-existent, and I got it from your clue. "Some sort of small red fruit" - how's that?
ge5/14 after the bacillus?
Thanks, Amanda!
just gotthat one amanda...ermmm...alt spelling of the j4/9 + 4th vowel
Sounds like another way of saying "think so".
ge5/14 - looks like invited people who lack a u.
that's never ever a word! Thanks, rolin
ok..im missing the ea5...gotta be a crzy word right?
and Angb - now I understand what you meant
Think keen, rolin.
the ge is used for surface preparation for art work
No rolin. That's a real word. What you feel like when you first log into babble
grrrr..starting from the wrong e
ea 5 beavers can be this too!
What you don't feel like when the words start drying up!
maybe I'll remember that, lynxxx - ask me in a couple of days!
i cannot belive the dictionary allows the first ho4/5
Has anyone seen my brain? It seems to have wandered off during the night. the i's?
think rerally cold amanda
Those ic words. I was convinced they must be Latin! LOL.
doesnt getting into a certain mind set mess you up
that's what I was looking for too, Angb. It certainly does, rolin. Thanks, got 'em
hmmm...why didnt someone tell me i had my top on backwards??..lol
Check that it's not inside out as well.
thx for your vote of confidence...*sly check for seams*..lol
Well that sexual high isn't an "or" word but that mind set led me to one. LOL
Angb - there are three of those or words. Sprite is from Amsterdam, she told us about their existence. or6/27, or5/16, or6/24.
ohhh - my daugher is in the grid - je4.9 - what a sweetheart
i cant find the or6/27..ave the other two
What fun! The grid is looking up. After those cold words it good to get a little hotter!
The or6/27 adds a vowel just before the end of the or5/16
rolin - one who is crazed for the 6/24
lol..got it...i gotta find a way to work that one into a conversation
Thnx Haz. Got them now I stopped giggling
You're welcome Angb.
The grid won't take hoss. But he was in Bonanza along with all the other Cartrights.
found the fish! Who'd have thought poor Bess had a fish as her partner!
but it nearly has his liitle brother Haz - jo4.9
It's blatant discrimination, isn't it?
I'm actually surprised you know about Bonanza - way too young - re-runs?
back after a pc lockup.... does anyone else have a prob with licketys page??
it's working fine for me, rolin
Fine for me.
just sometimes it will freeze..and freeze babble too
lynxxx - I'm old enough to have seen it first time around - I'm 48! It was a great series and I loved the theme tune.
I have had that. Thought it was this miserable weather, and the clouds coming down in front of our wireless transmitter.
And now, I must go and do some other things. I'll be back later to finish, hopefully.
see ya haz!
bye young Haz
bye Haz.
Hi everyone.
hi charm
morning, amanda
hello charm
good evening (?) lynxxx.
spot on charm - 9.20pm
Is it that late, lynxxx? So I take it you're on the eastern end of the continent?
yes - Melbourne - so pretty cold as well
I dream about cold weather. I dream about even a bit of chill in the air. I'd settle for needing socks and closed shoes in 'winter.'
Hi Charm
Good morning Preethi!
mmm - don't think that is what Florida is famed for though - !
Yes here in Adelaide its so cold that i have catched a cold
well, I suppose it's not so bad to have blue blue blue water only 45 minutes away. lol

oooh these pe's are not friendly
I'm off folks - happy babbling!
bye amanda
bye, amanda
bye amanda
clue for the or's?
The 6/24 are "hot" parties
Not having checked I would say that the 5 is if you feel you have to go to the parties
The 6 /27 is supposedly a person who has to go to the parties (and don't quote me).
Thanks Angb
That helped? You're a better clue reader than I am a writer. Well done.
:) It did
Have there been clues on the fl 7 and 8 plez?
fl 7 A girls name built on 5/16
8/55 is the most fl 5/16
Oh thanks, I was using the incorrect second double vowel, turned the wrong way.
clues on the other two 8's please?
This grid seems to be about doing that today. At least for me.
I don't even know where they are yet?
re8.50 - a student is on a schools ******
thanks, lynxxx
and the other one is hard - SO 7.48 & 8.65 - sounds like an English department store
not a good clue though - if you know the store - drop the r and d (i think!) . Sorry - really has no definition either. Perhaps some-one else has better clue.
that's ok, lynxxx - I'll just put the monkeys on overtime today!
(still clutching at clues!) - starts at bottom s and works mostly anti-clockwise
I don't even get the re clue let alone the so
Latin name for sun +abbreviated vegetable but change first letter. ????
you take your supermarket shopping to the re ***** to pay - RE8
clue for the fe 6/27?
Done my dash. It'd midnight and still 32 to go. Not a chance. And the partner feels I have deserted him for a computer! Must away. Night everyone and thanks for the help.
aha! - I remember the clue - an anagram of SELF and EGO
Plural of 5/16 preethi
I dont have the 5/16 Angb :(
Hi, I'm back. Thanks for that clue lynxxx.
finally got it, lynxxx - thanks again.
99 left
fe5/16 = full of spirit (usually fe***y).
gr 6,30 and 7,44?
Nevermind, I found them.
gr6 = not bleached (as in fabric), unfinished. gr + off-white color (minus the initial b).
oops, sorry, merk

No I think I will keep plodding for now as I only have 41 words
hello peri
re8/50 = pay for goods at the cash re******.
thanks Charm
po7 - pl of po**** and bess (or georgie po**** - pl.)
lol Charm I should not chat I always forget to change back
E words are my downfall. Nayone else have least favorite first letters?
so8.65 is an anagram of SELF and EGO (not my clue I hasten to add)
fl8 - builds on the fl5/16 (your teeth). fl7/40 is a girl's name. fl8/55 is more of the girl's name.
have the re8, what do the other 8's start with?
*anyone
this way to the eg****.
Grace - I struggle with all the vowels.
thanks Charm for the fl clues

bye, Jean
not the O on the right, as far as i can tell charm!
oops, sorry, wrong O.
I only have one party-related o word. are there more?
os5/10 is a toughie but it looks like it might be about bones (it means 'or else').
or5/16 - adj. about the party. or6/27 - person who goes to the party.
hi peeps
right. I'm off. have fun babbling.
Charm, got the or6 but can't figure out the or5
one is the plural of the party. the 5 and the other 6, both end in C
peri - remove the final vowel from the 6.
TY Evanadine - I was struggling to find that also
found it, thanks
does anyone have a definition of the ci word pls ?
I am so stuck on the 'st'. I am not seeing something. All I have is the sore throat and its plural. Help plez ... it's my bedtime and I've a long day tomorrow.
your sore throat may be caused by an ST5, which is in the grid. :)
merk, change your vowel in the sore throat to the round vowel
Merk, change the vowel
Merk - st + the tour company person who looks after you r complaints etc., on holiday.
there is an S + to 4.4
Ah! Didn't read properly. My clue was for the sore throat words.
lynxxx Def for the c is - A wicker receptacle used in ancient Rome for carrying sacred utensils in a procession But is also looks like a word that is usually spelt sy.
*cy not sy
TY FM - one of my favorite words and so I don't know why I didn't see it!
Thanks. What about the st 5,10 then?
s + a little throw
Ah, great. Thanks again.

Thanks, Krista ... oooh, that's good. :)
what did you experience, ch? when i tried to get on, no matter how, there was a "php error
that's exactly what I got -- a strange error message I had never seen before!
same here.
hubby said that happens when Dr. G messes with the data base...(all Greek to me, no offense to the Greeks)
Well, it's all Geek to me (no offense to the Geeks)
I still think it was Sydnie !

LOL, ch! I like that.
hah, lynxxx -- it usually is the trolls, innit? ;)
bye Krista
Well it definately wasn't the server 'cos Sudoku was still up.
Do you play simultaneously FMitch?
No, but it is always a good clue if both are down then there is a server prob :) Don't think I could do words and numbers at the same time, brain would go into melt down.
Glad to hear it, FMitch -- I was getting prepared for a massive inferiority attack if you'd said "oh sure don't you?" :D
lynxxx, gladja got it--just now able to get back into Babble
I (and others?) emailed Jamie and he fixed it
Thanks, Une
afternoon all, just finished work and ready to babble.
lol ch1212
very nice pic, oggy!
hi oggy!
Oggy, is that you and your beautiful wife?
55 words left to find... *withering*
Une - what is the email address for future ref? Hi oggy
this is mrs oggy and yes it is me and him
It's been delightful to see photos of the wedding. I had posted several right after my daughter's wedding in June. You both look wonderful!

It's been delightful to see photos of the wedding. I had posted several right after my daughter's wedding in June. You both look wonderful!
my sons wedding was on june 10th
sorry for the triple entry -- my babble babbled
Yes, my daughter's wedding was June 10th too, and when Mr. Oggy first mentioned it was upcoming, I had a moment of ... What if??? :)
pics are a bit late but only just learned how to the pics up.
feedback@playbabble.com is the address I use for Jamie
Thanks Une
you both look elegant. We saw one with the newlyweds already, so it's nice to see you too.
mr oggy only babbles he never chats its always me who chats
ah, I will try to remember that. My beloved and I have different logins, and he doesn't chat either.
In which case you should amend the profile so you have a pink "handbag" rather than the blue one
Aha - that's my problem - I don't babble with my husband!
FMitch, on "my account" there is a spot for my birthday but not for "Joined" yet I see that boxed on other babbler's profiles. Do you know where I go to input that info?
the "joined" shows up automatically . . .
FIREWORKS! Bye all!
OMG so it does! I just clicked on my own icon! Thanks, Une ... CONGRATS UNE!
Une! Congratulations - you quiet achiever you!
ch1212, it shows up automatically, if you click on your icon in the chat log you will see what we all see
Congrats Une
I just found that, FMitch ! Amazing what I don't see, isn't it? :)
most achieving was done in the middle of the nite, lynxxx :-)
lol, I asked Dr_G a while ago if he could introduce that data as there are a lot of us UK babblers coming up for 1 yr anniversaries with Babble this month - and he was kind enough to oblige.
Thank you for that, FMitch -- it doesn't seem like I've been here only since last October, because I feel like I've been here a lot longer... that's a good reflection on our babbler community - feels like home.
Hello Babblers! I got over 100 words between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Now I'm back for the rest...I mean the remaining words...the rest comes later.
LOL lizbethem! Welcome back!
ty Good luck all!
yeah, i feel kind of pathetic, babble, sleep, get up and immediately go back to babble. staying up for the flip is a nice land to visit but i wouldn't want to live there...
Hullo all, and I agree with Hurshy (what else is new?)
you said it hurshy -- I was on last night too (just not chatting) and went to bed late, then up early and back at it. I really needed Krysta's coffee :D
Hello Miss Hetty!
it's just cause you're so agreeable, hetty
I wouldn't choose to do babble at 2 a.m. believe me!
Guess I am lucky as flip time is 6am here in the UK
2 am...hmmm....far eastern canada?
Wow -- flip time in the Mountain Time Zone is 11 pm, which is late for me.
Cape Cod...upset tummy wouldn't let me sleep.
I think flip time is actually 1 a.m. here
Well hullo there ch1212. Just trying to change my icon--I've boobed again
but cape cod isn't in a different time zone... i see, you weren't here at the flip
Well, it's pretty... (unsure what it is) ? :)
It a fractal isnt it hetty?
Every now and then the icon I choose gets itself squozen (hows that for a new word?) in the transference process
Now that we have that settled...hope my tummy settles soon...diving down into the grid to finish up...glub, glub
see you when you come up for air, liz!
Hetty, if you choose something very rectangular, it always gets squozen into a square.
Don't drink the water lizb!!!
and I don't know what "fractal" means, it being a cybernetic and not a literary term---
It's a mathmatically generated pattern, Miss Hetty -- the patterns are generally quite beautiful
And if I understand, each one is unique
Thanks, Vicuna, that helps. Now all I have to do is avoid rectangular images;thanks ch1212 for the info
I've submitted another image, but it hasn't come up yet. Seems I'm to be either squozen or eliminated
you have to refresh, Miss Hetty, by hitting your F5 key
So no sundae for me today.
and refreshng doesn't change a thing--so far
What a surprise...my brain isn't functioning correctly! I'll try again later. bye
doesn't for me either... so you went to the My Account, clicked on 'edit' under your current icon photo, then clicked on 'browse' (if new icon is saved as a file on your computer, otherwise clicked on the other button if new icon is something you found on the internet) and then selected the photo, then clicked on Upload?
(And if you followed all that I will bow down to you! :)
Bye, liz. Try a catnap.
Yup, ch1212, that's exactly what I did. So bow bow,ye lower middle classes
I bow to Miss Hetty willingly!
I hope you realize I
All Hail Miss Hetty!
Sorry got caught up by a phone call - ch1212 totally right re fractal. Hetty I find sometimes once I have uploaded a new icon I have to refresh F5 twice before it takes.
I hope you realize I'm quoting W.S.Gilbert--I don't have any truck with classes myself
I knew that about you Miss Hetty :)
Thanks FMItch. I'll be patient.
Good afternoon all.
*note to self - always get the re's out of the way first, sigh*
Good afternoon Haz
im back phone, they always call at the wrong time.
whats the grid like today.
pain in the butt now there are only 17 left to find but there were some great finds this morning.
Welcome Haz. I've missed you lately--no one quite so accommodating to have adventures with
back for the fina push...does anyone have the po7/40?
good morning all! I have a word that is in my word list twice. Will that count for the word total, or should I try to find one more?
like I always say
Afternoon Haz
hey oggy...theres some interesting' words
Hello hetty and ch1212 and FMitch and all. I've been very busy over the past week or two, hetty, but am ready for more adventures!
Mind you, I still have 61 left to find myself, although probably not at this sitting. I have some errands to run but couldn't resist popping in. You all know how it is.
oooh phantom word..prosaic
i have needed 6 for about an hour now....cant get going again :-(
Indeed I do. How about the tr's...have you reached those devils yet?
Ony one hairy tr do I have, hetty.
Has to be done Haz :)
Should be a troll, but that's not there. Nor is a trojan. Oh dearie me.
Good grief, remove the s from the tantrum and you have a tr4/5
Haz - add a vowel at the end and then pl too
Tantrum--?
st5/12 hetty.
Thanks FMitch!
yw Haz
i've never heard it called a tanrtum, but I have heard of a leather st5/12 used to sharpen a straight razor....
ooo, I have st5/12, both of them, second works!
That's what I thought it meant, BJ. Tantrum is an interesting word for it too
Did you get fireworks, Miss Hetty?
Ah, the wonders of the English language! Is the tantrum a British word then?
Ah that is a good alt clue BJ, the tantrum version is definately used for what youngesters do.
Haz, the dictionary says it comes from Middle English, and is the strap BJ was talking about
The adjective form usually has a teenager attached.
AS one born and bred inEngland I have to say that as synonym for tantrum I know it not--only as leather what brandyjack said
leather belt and teenagers. Hmmmmmm......
but I do know the adjectival slang term (as applied often to teenagers)
And the word Haz was saying to drop the 's' with has interesting definitions too: A figure of speech using words in nonliteral ways, such as a metaphor. A word or phrase interpolated as an embellishment in the sung parts of certain medieval liturgies.
ch121, I'm a long way from fireworks--only jus started and am working backwards just for fun
hello, could I get a clue for the gr6/30, gr7/44 combo? At least I'm assuming they are related!
ooh ch1212 that tr word is a literary term! No probs there
That's interesting - it's given in my dictionary as a colloquialism for bad temper.
ah, and that would explain the reference to adolescents! :)
Exactly!
I have 16 to go and a lot to get done today, so I'm going to be off hunting. Have fun all!
Bye ch1212!!
gr6/30 - think of a colour beginning with b, a sandy fawn hue. Use the last letters of it and attach it to gr, then pluralise for the 7.
and I've found another tr5--in order to st*** a teenager, just grab him/her by the tr***es!
Bye ch1212. Have a good day.
Teenagers usually have long ones
whoa. Thanks. I must admit I don't know that word.
thanks, haz, for the gr6/30. It' took me a minute, but that was really helpful!
Glad to help Jaime.
i need some so 7 and so 8 help.
ive learned to hate the r's..
Found todays fish and understand a clue from a long time ago in the log. Gershwin musical po7/40 & Bess but the po has been extended and pl
so7/48 - a musical term. If you have the dental string, reverse the first four letters. Then add the first two letters of what a hen lays, followed by a vowel. The seven is the plural.
my goodness! I don't know how you find these, Haz.
It was clued earlier on Jaime, though in a different way.
dental string-?
for your gum health, hetty.
fl words
Hetty - for oral hygiene you are encouraged to use this.
gotcha, ta Jaime
the os5 is eluding me, help?
ta, Haz. But the lovely clue for so7 doesn't work with either vowel
there were 3 vowel choices.
OOPs! found the third vowel! thanks
os5 - add the ending of a four letter continent
do re me fa ***, + 4point letter + over the ****
I personally think someone isjust sitting around making up strange words to confuse us!
ine is but a little brain SeaDove, ta
still waiting for an os5 clue, or do I have to threaten to hurt the puppy?
harpjane, see my post at 10.41
harpjane, Haz clued you.
Don't hurt the puppy!
what a threat I must remember that one!!
oh, that's good. (I actually don't even HAVE a puppy, you know.)
and if I try to hurt my cats, guess who loses?
Flippin babble just hic up'd again
oh would you like one harpjane..I have 3. :)
it zapped me a few minutes ago too.....
Well then, welcome back all those who were zapped.
how is possible that I still need 45 words? I bet they are all re words. Ugh!!!
And now I must go to get those errands done. By the way, I have put more vet stories up on BabAnon. See you later!
off to work, thank you all
Jaime, you're fortunate. I have found only 45 so far
Bye HAz See you soon and thanks for the stories, can't wait :)
well, I'll help if you need it, Hetty.
ja6 anyone?
more than one singer from the rolling stones
ja6 that is.
ja6 - builds off the ja4/11. Don't double the consonant though
thsi must be a diff ja6...
ja 6 39 a kind of saa bird alternate spelling of the rolling stone j
there are two ja6's very similar, one is rooted by the ja4, the other has an extra vowel tossed into the mix..
got it!
one is like Ja**** Meister
*hugs Grace* thanks!
i finally found the first ag words!!!
clue the rest of us in????
Good day all
Isn't fresia a word?
boy i feel old today
freesia
That looks better.
ag6/24 & plural ag7/36 - if you specify how old someone should be to do something you might be this. Kind of anti old people.
sure! take the 3 letter word that represents how old you are and add the last 3 letters of the joint between your hand and your arm.
hello Kenny Chuck! usual for you to be on this time of day...
hi brandyjack... hi EVERYONE!
raes
Hi StidMama.
the last 2 ag words are the same as the first 2 without the third vowel.
Hi Stidmama. Yeah a bit early for me. Actually at home today thanks to a bout of food poisoning
okay, this is driving me batty. Clue please for the re5/10 that is either the second or third? (I have to put something down again, and the plural of not working...) thanks
oh no! I hope you are feeling better soon. I really don't like digestive upsets...
I saw that clue last night, now I understand it.....
did you get them, brandyjack?
ch1212 - how about the word for something old that is in-vogue again? Something from the 30's or 50's or with a look that emulates that period might be called re***.
Me, either. The worst. Looked in the yellow pages for a gastro-intestinal exorcist. None, to my surprise, exists. Bet they would do a bang-up job, money-wise.

Kenny Chuck you are wonderful! Great clue -- got it, thanks!
Jaime, yes, your clue was lucid enough even for me.... Thanks.
well Kenny -- you probably already know this, but black tea can be very soothing in things like this -- decaf works, too. Wait for things like peppermint tea or juices until your system has settled down a bit.
hi everyone! :)
can anyone help with ae words or eg words?
Chamomille is supposed to be good too. Hi Temple Owl, stid and everyone. And bye again -- I'm off to run errands.
and of course, bananas, rice and apples are the other part of the formula, also once your system has settled a bit. *offers cup of warm tea to Kenny*
later ch!
hi TempleOwl!
Thanks, stid. I'm definitely on the mend. Wife swears by rice-water. Best to drink it warm. Just plain white rice, but then drink the water it cooked in.
morning all! how many total today?
CYL ch.
Hi Templeowl!
okay, I am going to enter words into the list as soon as I have made some coffee to help me wake up.
Have been lurking a bit, so down to 22 left.

Aloy, I was born in Cleveland Hts. We have quite a contingent of Ohioans and former Ohioans on Babble.
FM, its supposed to be nearly 110 with the heat index today
Haz, my last 20 words might not be yours meistro!!
OMG lady that is dire!!!
stidmama and Caitlyn - hello to both of you. This is my third and hopefully final attempt to get this grid licked. 56 to go.

I was explaining to my mum the game of babble ..how people all around the world chat and help each other with clues she said very sadlly what a shame the world isnt made from babble players, then perhaps there wouldnt be wars!
Okay, why isn't "serger" a word
without a/con in that sort of temp lady, I doublt you can do too much apart from sweat?
thanx Vicuna; I couldn't see that to save my life
I finally got it...thanks!
Now everbody sing, "It's a small world after all..." :)
hear, hear, caitlyn! that is EXACTLY how I feel!
Thanks goodness for AC
PO 7 please someone?
tell your mom I concur!
any clues for the 2nd eg5/14?
I rather like "hail, hail the gang's all here never mind the weather we are all together...
serger is a word, but it's not in the puzzle....
EG 5/14 #2: E + g word meaning to joke
er, yes it is...
po7/40 - pl of Bess's partner, or Georgie Po---
po7 from the play, many po****** and besses
po7 - think of the play Po***** and Bess, but make it plural
yes it is
Hi, I'm back for a third attempt
lol, BJ... so many times, a word is a word, but not according to Enable!
thanks stephie!
thanks stephie!
I hate these twisty words....... I guess serger is too new a word to be in ENABLE. It's only in the last few years that sergers have been made... Not old enough...
Fireworks!!! Brandyjack is that you on your icon?
egads, how OLD do you suppose it has to be?
and perhaps they are a proper noun, BJ? what I hate are the stutters in the matrix that trick me into hitting "enter" twice...
and perhaps they are a proper noun, BJ? what I hate are the stutters in the matrix that trick me into hitting "enter" twice...
wahoo! congrats to caitlyn
YAY caitlyn!
Congrats, caitlyn
sergers have only been made for 10 years.... and Stidmama may be correct. Serger might be a trademark as it is a specialised machine.
help with the last ge 6/24?
...wait, that should be eg 6/24.
TY all
shade... pl your eg5/14
ciao caitlyn, thanks for the clues....
eg6/24 - pl of ag5/14 meaning people who discriminate based on years alive
i can't get the last eg 4/6
14 to go... (at last the coffee has made it from my cup to my brain!)
(I should say, alt spelling of the first set)
Go stid Go!!1
i think the last eg6/24 is the exit one....
I need the 1st 2 ag words
stid, I obviously need some iced tea... bbl
...the exit one?
they are like the last two but with an extra vowel in the middle....
the first two AG are a person who thinks a person's year of birth matters, and plural that...
eg6/24, to walk up the stairs and out the door is a mode of eg****
ag6/24 - someone who discriminates based on how old someone is, alt spelling
Thank you Brandy Jack
ah, thanks BJ
eg + tr5/10 minus the t
what she said.....
I'm trying to be good and not use the list, but its getting harder
I've heard the ag clues all day about the age discriminators, but I just can't get them!! Please help!
TEN...
I am done and have a headache now
(yay fmitch)
if you discrimate against a person because of their race then you are a rac***, if you do because of how old they are then you are an ag****
Yeah foe FMitch Have an asprin?
Stephie, someone who discrimites by race is a rac---, someone who discriminates on sex is a sex---, someone who discriminates on age is an ag---- (spell with and without the e)
OS 5 please?
thanks stid and caitlyn
do the fl 7/40 and fl 8/55 build off of the fl 5/16?
(Bubba, not only do we give the same clue, but we even both spell "discriminate" worng!)
DUH!! Thanks y'all!!
(or even "wrong.")
If spelling counts, then I'm in trouble!
Evidently so am I!
shade, yes, they do
never mind, answered my own question
The older person thing has an ag6 & 7pl at the top of the ag list plus a ag5 & 6 pl at the bottom of the ag list
Shade Eagel, they do - make it into a name and a superlative.
I got the fl8/55, but whats the fl7?
lady. drop the last letter
Got to go .............Catch you all tomorrow..Happy (peacefull) Babbling...Bye
*giggle* I forgot about that name
help with the fr 6/27?
My mom actually used to have a calf with that name when she was a child
Just remove the last letter from the fl8. (Which is a comparative rather than a superlative....)
OS 5 still?
bye, Caitlyn.. have a nice rest of the day..
os5 - to the os add the last letters of a four letter continent.
thanks Haz!
hi, everyone. i am gonna finish this thing. 87 left. too hot to go outside. might as well babble.
fr6/27 is french for strawberry. Glad to help, stidmama!
exactly, emusing!
fr6/27 - French for strawberry, or fr + Artificial Intelligence + first 2 letters of the number after six.
os5 is like those funny bone related words, but without the T...
and thanks BJ!
thanks vic, don't think I would've gotten that one on my own....
My pleasure, Shade.

YAY inge!
I normally just go straight down the line
LOL Aloyisius!
congrats to inge!
Stid, same first four letters as 6/24, one ends in first vowel, third letter, the other in third letter,
thanks inge! *sigh of relief*
start with the bottom o and work your way up to the first letter in the corner. the 6 letter has two vowels before the final consonant
that is for the or words!
thanks also Stephie! down to 6 now...
ty, inge... that helped me, too!
thanks Inge & Steph
help with the gr 5/16? I think this is gonna be a fish word for me....

I know there are lots of good cluers online right now, so will go do some more with the laundry... but first the quote of the day I just found in my email... "Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens." – Carl Jung

oh i see you mean french for strawberry
yup!
supposedly the fl 7 b& 8 build off the 5; but I am not getting that either
'cept i know so little french
fl7 a bobbsey twin, fl8 more so
the 7 resembles a name more than anything.
change the fl 5 to a pretty girl's name or dog's name, by adding 2 vowels
Phan, think of one of the bunnies in Peter Cottontail for the fl
flopsey is the bunny though
hey gang what's up
fl7 - the sheep in Black Adder that Lord Melchet *edited for pre watershed viewers* on a weekend break : )
i dunno if i spelt it right but it deffo has a P
take out the p and change the spelling
hi chj
you would normally think to expand the 5 to a 6 using the sometimes vowel, but expand it to 7 instead, and then expand it agin to make it more so...
hi nrk
ok which is more obscure, anj's clue or a bobbsey twin?
nrkii, your clue was the charm; thanx all
Hurshy i read taht story some 50 years ago...

sorry inge, i just correct things by habit, and so nobody gets confused
Anyone get the ga?
How could anyone think a Bobbsey twin clue was obscure, hurshy?
phew..i was just out in it..here in ct..my mom has a digital thermometer that read 99.9..i think thats as high as it goes
aearg
scottish, ladynoire
my mother's dog was called that, bj, that's why I think of it as a dog's name
oops
does anyone have the fe 5 and 6?
The first "big book" I ever owned was "Bobbsey Twins at the Seashore".
i dunno munner - i was teasing anj more than anything :)
Flying Blind, it just jumped my thoughts from a dark alleyway in my mind : )
Still dont get it Hursh
it is a scottishy word, that's all
fe5 and 6 - it is a type of small, yappie dog
personally, I think even clues that aren't 100% accurate can still be really helpful
oo-err...teasing? Steady now, Hursh... : )
ohhhh that makes sense stephie
redheads tend to be fe***y lasses.....
of course, definitely nrkii
ge 5/14?? I think it's the last one.
*hursh puts on a large hat to cover her red head*
But I don't speak scottish lol
or Gael, to be more precise
lady, change last letter of what you just typed
well i don't speak gael either but i do have a sense of the forms of the words... like how they tend to have ae...
Gaelic to be even more precise. Take the first three letters of the word you typed and pluralise it.
I got in Nrk, but I had to use the dictionary, grrr
Hursh, you're one up on me then, lol
stephie, plural of ge 4/6?
i wonder what garlic is in gaelic
or, stephie, same thing but ending with vowel instead of being pl
I've got that one!
It's smelly in any language.
thanks, finally got the fe's
still stinky in gaelic, hurshy.. but still yummy in recipes
that was it hurshy, thanks!
but did you get the fi's and the fo's and the fum's
Hursh, it's 'ionga ga/irleoige' according to the wonderful internet : )
holy cow, anj..
ack
hi all - popping in for 20 mins before going out - is it worth starting this grid?
if you only have 20 mins? you won't finish unless you have more time later
hi snowy... sure, its worth it.. (-: jump on in!
hi snowy owl!
not that there's anything wrong with that
hi snow..could really use some
lol hurshy - I'll be back later - a 20 minute finish is a distant dream for me!
ga 4/6?
or 6/24??
nm got it
lol chj -we've had no rain here today if thats any consolation. I'm beginning to feel quite guilty yearning for sun & dry weather
um...stephie...um...
*blush*
hey, whats with all the ice cream
Stephie - or6/24 - big fave with the Romans. All togas, wine & eunuchs....
thanks!!
What use would a eunuch be?
the theme today is ice cream creations I think chj.
why anj, what a tactful way to clue it
stephie, or + **n and tonic + y**, not no
...and of course liberal helpings of slap & tickle... X D
and i echo haz's query
they could wash up!
Good thinking snowy!
oh, sugar, i thought it was "I Scream" day
the eunuch's bring the beer and the camera
what is with this top E, i am being so dense
I guess the eunuchs were there to provide the table service without interfering with the merchandise...
As I am still failing in my 29 year quest for a disha
dishwasher! Washing up looms large in my very dull life!
Snowy, I thought hubby did that : )
He thinks he does Anj. but with all appliances the breakdown rate is high here!
I might have missed it earlier but can I please have a clue for the ja 6?
evening babblers, back after a few hours off, trying to get my last two......
Probably the fuse. What do they take? 3amp, 5, 12 or 're' ?? X D
yps, there's a fashion chain that's ja6/39...
is it in the us?
Has anyone given a clue lately for the first ge 5/14?
Ypsi, how is yourGerman? ja 6 is German word for hunter, the umlauted a is written ae
lol Anj - it would take an electric shock to get him to the sink most days! We've just come back from hols & I pointed out the advantages of a dishwasher daily but I think he's nag proofed himself now!
or 6/27 and the 5 after it?
...also another ja6/39 - goes with Wymans, Watts's, Richards's and Woods...less a G : )
ja6/39 bombs! Woo!
munner, its the ge 4/6 with second vowel
can someone please clue me on the gr 6/30 and 7/44?
I am so lost on the German hunter / fashion chain / bombs ?
someone who acts like a particular wild cat?
try ja+eg4/6, ypsi
gr6/30. A colour beginning with b, of sandy/fawn hue, often derided for being boring. Take the remaining four letters of the colour and attach them to gr.
then do an alt spelling
*meister
ja6/39meister liqueur ..
...ooo good speech Aloy: )
great minds...
well clued, Aloysius
thanks aloy, I didnt have that eg either, but I do now.. finally got the J's done! ;)

Medicinal . . yup . .
pe6/27?
interesting word...; thanx Anj
inge, did you give me a clue for the first ge 5/14 or the second? I need the one between 4/7 and 4/6.
No worries phan : ) Lose the A for the or5 after...
go it
pe6/27 - pe plus how old you are, then pluralise
munner, I think you need a double snake then fourth vowel
ge+doube consonant and a vowel
ge - it's used in art as a base
thanks, inge. That was it.
thanks haz. I don't even know those words!
Oh, don't worry, lots of them aren't used much in normal life. Unless you have a VERY extensive vocabulary.
i cannot think of any use for those four pe words unless one were writing an Indian report
ok - I'm off to amaze the pub with my lack of general knowledge now! bbl xx
see ya SO
bye, snowy.. see you next time
Bye Snowy!
Bye snowyowl, have a good evening. And don't let us down, the honour of babblers depends on you!

ladynoire, I don't have ag 5/6!
al, i see that youre a bird nerd..i was at my sisters the other day sittin on her back porch watching all the action at the birdfeeder and saw what i thought might be a female oriole..it was brownish with what i thought was some orange on the wings and a short bright bright triangular orange beak..i tried to look it up in a field guide but couldn't find any orioles with bright orange beaks..the only thing i can figure is that i mistook red for orange and that it was a female cardinal..any ideas
I'm quite needy today. I could use alot of help w/the SO7 and 8
button, the ag 5/14 and ag 6/24 is what I meant, sorry
Vicuna ...hi...is everyone abandoning us?

chj..hope u don't mind me answering this one..female oriole is fairly yellowish - basically yellow where the male is orange..sounds like you did see a female cardinal - neon orange beaks!
Well, wolvie, sometimes you have to tell it like it is! ;P
hi everyone
In two seconds I will have fireworks
Hello, feather!
hi wren, fether...
hey feather
bad habit of mine - or yours? I've been a lurker for awhile, just couldn't resist.
everyone staying cool i hope?
just got in..can't believe they have kids out for summer band practice in this heat!!
the first st 5/10 has to do with pressure...i am under such st**** today from this job.
krista..thanks..but the field guide mentions nothing about orange beaks and the picture is kind of reddish but not as brilliant as the one i saw
Wolvie, you should see the clues when we get REALLY dirty clues!
oh man! that's gotta be rough. i've got the house closed up and fans everywhere, AC in our bedrooms. the house has two zones, cool and hot
(I mean really dirty words.)
Hi Wolvie, I don't think we have met before. Thank you, it was such an obvious word, I am blushing

Vicuna - since I've been playing for a bit (did you enable me at CT??), I've seen some ...er...interesting words here.;-0
the female cardinals have orange beaks - see them every day=here's a pic
http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCFor umID40/2657.html

Exwren, I am blushing because I was stumped for a nicer clue!!
Help--thou7ght I was finisd (well, almost) and then found myself missing 2 ag's--the first 2: ag6/24 and ag7/36---I must be blind. Please help me see
anyone have a clue for the second ar 4/4?
Yes, I lurked for months and months when I started playing, too. I have no idea what your question about CT means, so I guess the answer is probably "no"???
cooks talk - fine cooking?
second ar4/4 is Greek god of war
Button, its says its not in the puzzle
ar4/4 is a zodia sign--the ram
we're 92, heat index 101, Feather
or do you mean the next one? take the next lettter to the second vowel
mo - think g**r as in g**rshift
feels worse, though!
hetty, first 2 ag's are alternate spellings of the ones that discriminate based on how long you've been alive.
someone who discriminates based on how old a person is
I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but did any1 answer me on the SO's?
ito and vicuna--I have those as the ag5 and ag6 at the end of the list.
yucky krista!
i also need the fisrt 2 so's please
do you mean to includethe second vowel? I'll try that
Hetty - stick an e in the middle!
so7/48 - musical scale as sung in Sound of Music, so8 is pl or try the sun's proper name + chemical symbol for iron + -- your hair smells terrific (minus last e)
Yes! It worked! Thanks
krista..thanks for the link..thats what i saw
Wolvie thank you ...got that one now ..i need the re5/14 that follows it now if you can help

Okay now I feel really stupid, I still cant get the first st5/10 - even after going to the dictionary
ty
Sure, chj, glad to help. I think the females are prettier than the males, really.
mo - haven't checked lickety yet - not sure which re you are looking for - is it an 8?
Lady, change the e to an o and it will take it...sorry I gave you the wrong clue...I'm tired
who, feather, I painted pottery, not pained it. **ouch**
Wolvie ...it is a5
Vicuna - I responded to you but neglected to say it was to you, so ..ct = fine cooking?
Button, can you repeat the clue again
lady, I think it's s + easy throw
so7 sun in latin + the sixth and seventh letters of the alphabet spelled out but dropping in each case the final letter
Got it Vic and Button, thanks
reger
My cooking is not especially fine, I'm afraid, Wolvie, so I don't think I can be the person you're thinking of! :)
the males are too gaudy
yeah, we had to take grandma to an eye appt. this morning. went to a park at 10am, and it was way too hot then. ended up just walking around in hte stroller after a while, and went to the eye dr. waiting room early

Vicuna - the new england locale got me, a person who posts at CT is also a friend of babble, and I thought perhaps you were the same one. Sorry. :-)
sorry about that ....but i have it now...i dont think i gave it away!
the ar 4/4!
I agree, chj. We saw have orioles in our trees, but rarely see them. They have a strange call.
Button, do you have width X length?
mo - I probably did.LOL
Nice of you to take gma to appts., Feather. My mom took my 90 yrd old great aunt today. That's about all that's wrong with her is vision. She is healthier than I am.
Has any1 had gallbladder problems?
i saw some great birds ..a hummingbird..lots of goldfinches..some great hawks circling overhead
is anyone having trouble with the chat log, mines has gone off twice.
Wolvie i dont think you did!!
I have a wicked pain in my back when I move the wrong way. It takes my breath away. It's in the upper right side, which is also where I broke the ends off 5 vertebrae. So, I'm not sure if it's my gallbladder or my youthful adventures haunting me.
Sounds lovely, chj. I don't have good luck with hummingbirds. Gave up. Oggy, there was a lot of trouble this morning; I've been ok recently.
Gramma, were you in a car crash or just a wild child?
^^^^^^^^fireworks^^^^^^^^^^
Ouch, gramma!! Sorry to hear that!

Fran, get stuff again,
Most children stayed until they could read and cipher well enough for farm work. Boys often came and went through the year as their help was needed at home with harvests or planting or building. Girls were more reliable in their attendance, but rarely stayed long enough to take the final exams.
thanks lbd!

The youngest children were in the biggest, brightest room which was also used as a sort of nursery for those mothers who could not stay home. Here, they learned songs and letters, and manners, and simple crafts.

what kind of story is this
*peek*
The middle students, who could read a little and sit still for longer, were in the next biggest room, with walls lined with books and pictures. A warm stove in the winter kept them cozy, and in the spring the windows and doors were flung wide to catch the fresh breezes.

When students had read the "Three Most Important Books" and could do their sums to 100 easily, they could move on to the upper class.

The tall, willowy sister was able to recite nearly anything she had ever read or heard. The comfortable sister with the green eyes could draw pictures of anything and remember exactly where in a book she had read something. And the sister who was going through the awkward stage not only had a mind for numbers, but a sense of humor that often distracted the other students.

Their younger brother liked the days they were there, because he got to wait for them after school, and look through as many books as he pleased. And their youngest sister liked the days they worked there, because they would bring home books to read to her.
sorry, didn't mean to interrupt the story... go on!
helen, the other one is minus the second vowel, then add an S for plural
*whispers* (she will anyway)
tx -thought i tried that
The other days the girls walked home together when class was over, chattering excitedly about this person, or that event or some other important topic.
GR 6/30?
The youngest brother and sister were always home sooner, for their classes lasted only half a day. Some afternoons, they would walk through the park on their way home.
gr + another word for tan color is b****
Other days, they would stop at their grandparents' to visit and have some delicacy the grandmother "just happened" to take out of the oven as they arrived. They would listen to the grandfather tell tales, and the boy would help with the animals or the yard while the girl sat with her aunt and grandmother and learned all the stories by heart.

g + old gas station name
Often, late at night, the grandparents would sit out on the porch (in the summer) or by the fire (in the winter) and talk about all the things they wished for all their grandchildren. Good health, loving families, enough to eat, and just enough excitement to keep things interesting.

Used to be SOCONY - Standard Oil Company of New York
They were proud of their loving, helpful grandchildren, and doted on the two youngest, as grandparents often do.
hmmm, thought that might be the case jilli, but thought helen might be more familiar with them as a "former"
I wish I'd known my grandparents...
of course, nrkii, just giving a bit of history
So many of their grandchildren by this time had children of their own -- some of them already thinking of starting families, and they knew many things about life's up and downs.
helen one who thinks highly of their number of years
helen, the ag 6/24 and 7/36 pair are same as the ag 5/14 and 6/24 pair later in list, but one extra vowel in middle of first pair words

In this way, the children came to view her almost as another mother -- her slow pace and gentle ways soothing all manner of ills and injuries and injustices. She could tell marvelous stories, and knew most of the people from the village and the surrounding farms.

It was this aunt who, carefully and quietly, walked her niece around the village, describing each building and its purpose, and helping the little girl count off the steps from place to place.
another PO 7/40 clue please, the clue earlier did not help

not really
as the Psalmist says--"We spend our years as a tale that is told..."
po + gi4/6
you get po*k from a pig, change the k to another consonant and pluralize it.
stid, you have inspired others into prose...after u left us after the story a few nights ago...there was much poetry shared...it was lovely really!
we need a babble literature group!
Know any Gershwin, ronnie? I'm thinking of a song "____ and Bess". But you need a plural.
ronnie, pig meat is po*k, change the last cons and add Beware the *D** of March
good clue jilli! and i have to say nighters all. sweet dreams
gi 4/6 I get the gi** (I understand)
It was this aunt who carefully watched the children when her sister took ill (which was a thankfully rare event), and who held her sister's hand when she needed a good cry.
nrkii..hope you enjoy tomorrow with the authors

Nitey night, lbd!
I' all for that--a babbler book club--why not? Way to go, cath
thanks chj! I'm excited about it...
And it was this aunt who happened to look out the window to see her sister sitting on the porch next to a man one evening, looking very comfortable and happy for the first time in years.
I forgot my poster board though, so I don't think I'll be able to hold up my "Steve, please talk to me I'm your number one fan" sign
os please
What's tgis tomorrow with authors bit, nrkii?
:)
Good idea, cathy -- and I am glad there are others interested in sharing word-art.

Speedy Gourmet Solo Sole Amandine. Whether you want it or not, here it is. Have on hand, one slim fillet of sole, one toaster oven. one wedge of lemon, some sliced almonds, a couple of pats of butter, and a stovetop burner. Oh yes, a teflon frying pan.
and salt
all Im trying to do is make maximum useof my icon, which think very pretty
hetty, 80's silly animation thing, where the animated guy, Max Headroom, stuttered and repeated himself a lot :)
your icon is beautiful
And just what is it, hetty?
it is pretty hetty - lovely colors
It's an interstella nebula, like you, jilli
hetty...u r a retired doctor? a gp or did u specialize?
for the GE 5/14 i have the gas station & romantic verse which one am I missing?
and your recipe is good too
it's a fractal isn't it hetty?
hahaha! What a compliment -- undeserved!
ronnie, drop last letter of romantic verse, then plural
Alan is the retired family physician. I'm just a common or garden Ph.D. in Literature
But wait -- you haven't got the rest of the meal!
ron: beau ge*** (the plural)
of course, we know vodkha will be an important [part of it
awesome hetty... wish i could retire... at 40!!! lol
that'd be like....NOW!!!
This all took half an hour, from cooking to eating in order to make it in time for stid's story!
Im thought I learned today what a fractal is, but this is not what it was at the time
must go take care of blog-child... see you later!
no vodka ingredients, hetty -- just apreprandial sip or two.. or three...or...
Cath, I retired at 65 and am still teaching for community ed. It never stops
a fractal is the visual image of a repeating mathematical equation
I am still showing a GE 5/14 missing? I have the gas station then the romantic verse, then the romantice verse pluaral, so is there another GE 5/14 that I am missing?
ok, so put some foil in a toaster-oven tray and spread some sliced almonds aound. Press the toaster button and keep a close eye on it - toas very lightly for a few seconds.
i just want more time to spend with my son...as a single parent...work takes up too much time...but can't live without the almighty freakin dollar!!!
unless yer a hermit
Thanks davety. Earlier I had an icon that was squozed and I was told it was a fractal. I suppose it's like a perfect number, the visual equivalent thereof
gr5/14 - the gooey stuff used as a bse for painting - g + old gas station standing for Standard Oil
ronnielee--I guess so!--thats a clue
Anyone following the recipe?
sounds lovely jilli. but i'm at work so can't follow yet
I'm trying not to. No fish worth eating here in South Dakota.

ok...well...i guess it's time to go gather up my doggie and go to bed...quittin at 46 words to go, but the lawyers need me at the office 2morrow. dang it all! ;) seriously...i love my job but just want more time with my son...anyhow...that could get me on a whole tangent so i'd best go to bed instead. bye all and thank for the help!!! till 2morrow friends
Yup of course (tho I think it's one I've made many times in a regular oven)
nite cath
We have lovely fish in UK. One of the advantages of living on an island
ronnelee., did you get my clue?
Put a pat of butter in a teflon pan and fry the salted sole of a few seconds each side on medium. Put on the warm plate you've had sitting on the toster oven.
I grew up in a port city. My grandfather used to be a commercial fisherman. I became a real snob about quality seafood.
*for a few seconds
Can you tell me Riemann, what has happened to my favourite fish, hake?
I am at 186 still showing that I am missing an GE 5/14, it has to be after the romantic verse & before the the GE 4/6?
Put some more buter in the pan and let it bubble. Add a squeeze of lemon and the toasted almonds. Pour this over the sole.
Then I say again I guess it should be ge***--2 snakes and a fourth vowel
i'm missing the same one ronnielee. i cannot get it...
there's two spellings for the romantic verse. pluralize the correct one.
abe you too--I GUESS SO
i have that one hetty (but thanks for the clue!) i think i need the romantic verse spelling. i'll figure it out...thanks for your patience!
another suggestion: there's an eg6/24. Drop the first letter and you have g5/14.
just take away the fifth vowel and one of the snakes, forPete's sake
I have that one hetty, licketys list shows in this order: GE 4/6; 4/7; 5/14 ( I have); 4/6; then (2) 5/14's & finally a 4/6.
I had baby potatoes (10 minutes simmering) and sugar sanp (mange-tout) peas done in the microwave with this, and a split of Henckel Trocken ("champagne"). Then fresh rasperries with plain yogourt for dessert, and made it all in half an hour to stid's storytime (well, almost made it)
O.K.--the other one is French for gesture an dspelled almost the same. Do you know the novel "Le beau Ge***"?
Isn't that Speedy Gourmet stuff?
thank you Hetty. I'm sorry for being dense. good night everyone
g'nite, abe79
so you have ge**, ge***, and ge***, the last one being the plural of the first. YOu arenot dense, abe,you are bright as a button

Thanks, Abe--I have the exit one--It must be the middle eg's 6.24 & 4,6? I think I'm doing something wrong???
then gr6/3 and its plural gr7/44 are based on a sany colour--change from "b" to "gr"
that should be sandy colour--like midway between cream and tan

and I can't type either!
Oh, Michael Buble'...
leigh, I must tell you a little story. When I was 8 I went from a Brit school in Shanghai where we had prefects to an American school in NY and was put in 3rd grade, which was way behing what I had been doing at the Brit school, but fun. One day our teacher asked us if we knew any words beginning with "pre". Msny were given, and then she asked if anyone had another. After some thinking I stuck my eager hand up and said "prefect". No, she said, there's no such word -- you mean "perfect". I was stunned.
Sorry about the typos -- nobody's perfect!
Jill- Too bad you can't go back and laugh in her face. At least you're smart enough to know better.
Evening all!

we used to sing a lot of naughty songs on the ski trains going up north from Montreal - such fun those trains were!
let the begging begin! fr 6/27, plz?
or as clash would sing it "take your car outta that ge**
actually, when the us tennis open moved from forst hills to flushing, they took the singer bowl from the worlds fair.. it was a long oblong shaped stadium, and they put a squarish stadium over one end and the other end was the grandstands. You could walk through a passageway from one to the other and watch two great matches. AI think its still used altho they built an even larger stadium, arthur ashe stadium, for the main matches
trains and skiing go so well together
interesting !
