i still need 4 had to eat dinner first.
i was high-fiving nan - we both needed the same 2 words & we both finished at the same time - sweet :)
dhed
helen...what was the final word from the bottom s?

brandy's page doesn't list ANY of hte j's

nan - is that really the flag for the olympics - where?
In Vancouver
Why don't you go pro, ornith? It's a bargain
next winter olympics, right nan?
i like to start looking at patters. like, pick four in a diamond, and see if those can be a word, CW or ccw. then move to the next diamond. sometimes that way you see something that you overlooked by looking to hard.
cause I'm a starving artist and I only play once every few weeks
right
what kind of art
very cool nan & very cool flag - our mayor is trying to get the 2016 summer games - i hope he succeeds, but i think it will be a huge mess for the city

however, i am not that serious into this game...i just get on here from time to time
next time u kids see me i will be pro ; it sounds so official
you can have pink icons taz
And there's a daily theme so you can change it accordingly - today's theme is flags
the choice is yours enigma but trust me Babble is a drug
withdrawal is next to impossible and pro feeds yuor habit lol

k ren
Thanks Andy - curiosity satisfied. Its a great angle.
plan for my retirement has been set
nah andy, pirates just learn to fight and sail drunk!
And that Cuba Libre was in 1942 at the Cafe Rouge, Hotel Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania 6 - 5000, if anyone here has ever heard of Glenn Miller
And that Cuba Libre was in 1942 at the Cafe Rouge, Hotel Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania 6 - 5000, if anyone here has ever heard of Glenn Miller
jilli, i was in the tongue of the ocean aboard a yacht....and was introduced to gin...the movement of the boat may have added to the chumming

tazpink, you need to go to your account and edit from there
ty mrp
Lickety - I've been chatting and watching the chat and have only 25 words with 29 left to go
taz, most people use google image search.
jilli is our babble social butterfly!
MrP - my grandparents and some cousins were from NSW
Well if you get stuck, go forth for clues ;-)
ya know - i should be sleepy....i am waiting for the brain to shut down....or am i waiting for a brain? maybe i'm waiting on tazpink's pro status to post
Well, it's fun, rennie!
lickety - you are so kool!
NSW is a nice little state!
and jilli - you do it so well! with warmth and a feeling of belonging! (((jilli)))
i want to see what tazpink puts up also.
oh yeah, little like california! Most were in Sydney, but one had a sheep station I forget where - he owned East-West Airlines which of course ran North-South

And belated thanks, Lickety, for your impeccable List!
yes, thanks lickety!
ah! That would be central NSW then.... will have to check but they did fly sydney to alice springs so that is east west!!
Morning MVA. You were ahead of time for once!
what is alice springs chicken?
hello MVA!
alice springs has a dirty big rock near it!!
it's my holiday, i can sleep in!!
an invention of the outback chain ren!
His name was Donald Shand. Another cousin was Ian Clunies-Ross
just seen your icon jfb, very good
oh - i thought it was for real...thanks fran...i learn so many things here!
Keeping the Cornish flag flying - like you.
He was a founding member! The company had planned to fly between Grafton and Moree, but switched to Tamworth-Sydney and other routes.
good job too!
they are definitely north south routes
ren, i like your se* ditty!
thanks fran - it's from the black pearl
from the movie?
Funny, eh, Mr P?
I have yet to see the new movie!
yes...i think...i'll check while we're waiting on the unveiling of tazpink
jilli, I just had a wonderful history lesson about him... googled east west airlines donald shand... he did alot!!
pirates of the carribean i mean.
gotcha fran
Ian Clunies-Ross did a lot too - ask the rabbits
they are such well known names in Australia Jilli - esp for my generation.
he was on the$50 note!
OMG!!!!
wow jilli! you have a famous cousin!
that is freaky!!
And I've never been to Oz, dammit
wow jilli!!!!!!

"Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me)" Song Lyrics Lyrics by Xavier Atencio and music by George Bruns
fran it was written for curse of the black pearl
cool ren, don't you just love the internet!
yes i do fran...of course there are about 10,000 books in this house.....
They were my mother's cousins. My hubby met Donald Shand on business visits to the USA and he kept telling us to visit but we couldn't (too much biz). I met Ian in England, about 1940, with his 2 sons. I think they're still alive - one a professor in Scotland, I think, the other in the Aussie army, but they won't remember little me.
i think the same people that love books also love being able to look things up on the nets.
here is a link for ya Jilli! http://www.asap.unimelb.edu.au/ bsparcs/aasmemoirs/ross.htm\
Fran, our li=ocal little library now has 5 internet computers and they're busy with researchers and emailers
you should try and make contact Jilli - so easy nowadays - and usually people are very interested in 'long lost' family.
that's cool jilli!
Thanks MrP & lynxxx - I'm a bit shy, believe it or not!
you jilli??
I better get the kids off to dinner! you guys enjoy this little grid and will catch ya all later... BYE!
i think you're right fran. you've got to know you have it! the saddest part of owning so many books and movices was the forced evacuation for the hurricane last year. i had to pull out of my drive and force myself not to look back.
later mrp
bye mrp!
bye MRP
ren, did you lose anything?
bye mrp and thanks for the link - will do!
no fran..i even had power when i returned home
thank goodness ren!
yes, fran -- it's easier when you're hiding behind a monitor - lol!
of course my parents disowned me since i made them sit in 100 degree weather for 7 hours to move a mile. LOL
ren- I remember seeing those traffic jams on TV -- horrible!
jilli - you need to contact your family!
jilli, that's true isn't it.
I'll try, if they're still around and not too antiquated to have email if I can find their addresses
ok 1st yawn.....think si'll ay adios amigos and see you later! oh wait arrrggggh me beauties...let a fair wind billow ye sails!
adios!

oh good, MVA - you just got here
one oa5/10 is plural of desert rest stop
I didn't know if it was a specific type of flag jilli LOL
Helllo everyone!!
hey MVA, if you are from cornwall, you must appreciate og4/6 and og5/14
two og words og4/6 and og5/14 have to do with architectural curves
oh4/6 is past tense of an exclamation
Hello Aleksia
Enjoying your three day weekend?
Thanks fran got them!
13 words left now
Good morning. Very autumnal type weather here today. I think cricket may be off.........more time to babble and only 54 words!
Yep
love the icon frances!!
I've got the top three rows now, I only have J, S, E and Bottom S left to go.
ow4/8 x 2 are anagrams of each other, first on is when you lend someone money, they now ow* you
Nite everyone (Don't forget to do it Jilli).
Nite everyone (Don't forget to do it Jilli).
hi frances!
night lynxxx!
Clever, frances!
Any clue for se4,6 please? I have the one that seems like a shortened form of a piece.
Nite, lynxxx - I'll try!
Hi jilli. Pleased you got it.
jfb, change the last consonant to a vowel
Thanks MVA. Thought I'd bee different. The other name for an iris is a flag.
Its OK I monkeyed it and now its fireworks time!!

Good luck everyone, good bye for this evening, see you tomorrow.
woo fireworks...all in half an hour...i guess this is to lull us into asense of securitybefore the 300+ grid for tomorrow then?
congrats seano!
YAY seano - and what is your icon? It;s smashing.
TTFN, Miss ABS (I was away for a mo)
that's gibraltars flag Jili, where i live at the moment
nice one, seano!
the key to the kingdom, seano?
well kinda, it's the key to the city gates, which was locked nightly to keep the spainyards out!
fun way to learn history
a very historical place gibraltar, every where you walk there are reminders of it's history...fortified walls, cannons littered everywhere
right, i am going to sneak back to bed, see if wifey has even noticed i was gone...bye alll for now
monkeys too, as I recall?
Good morning all.
morning haz, bye seano
Hail Haz! And what flag have we here?
lots of monkeys.... one had the cheek to scratch my sons arm....but he did try and stroke one of the babies....a big no no
We have the flag of Ulster, one of the four provinces of Ireland.
This is so interesting and colourful!
You can't see it too clearly, but the thing in the middle is a red hand. Legend has it that an invading force's leader promised a prize to the first man whose right hand touched land. A left-handed man cut off his right hand, threw it at the land and won the prize. He can't have been too bright! Of course,it is just a legend.
Yuk!
lovely story haz!
There are several versions of the Ulster Flag, some more politically sensitive than others. This is the non-politicised version as used by sports teams etc.
Well, I hate to say it, but today's grid is finished already. Quite a contrast to yesterday's offering from Dr_God.
Good! BTW all you brits -- a while a go someone in the US wanted to know what the flag on a teddybear represented - it was the Union Flag (Jack)!!!
Well done, Haz - I've been enjoying the chat and still have 14 to go.
well done haz!
Jillibus, what strikes me about many, not all Americans, is that they are not well-informed about life outside the US. Granted, it is a big country, but general knowledge about other places seems to be lacking. (Cue howls of outrage from the US contingent)
They don't get much chance - their TV is so introspective and that's what they watch - centre of the universe, y'know!
breakfast calls, bbl
have a good one, MVA!
morning all :)
I've only been to the States once, a very short visit for a wedding, and that is exactly the impression we got - the news centred around the US to an extraordinary degree.
Good morning sherb - recovered after yesterday's efforts? You'll have no problems today.
Hello sherb - another handsome flag I see...whose?
I watch
cnn
hi Haz :) ...48 words in the 30 minute challenge this morning... 20 hours left to find the other 6...
Hello everyone. My wish was granted, I asked for a small grid and got it. My icon is the White ensign. It is for the Royal Naval Association
morning jilli :) ....it's the flag of Yorkshire, my home county...
Good morning ex-Wren. I caught you signing off last night. You weren't very happy!
Well I am gob smacked sherb, I didn't know that Yorkshire had a flag (family hail form there). Sorry, morning all
Start again! I watch CNN and it seldom deviates from US news. I also watch BBC World (I think unavailable there) to get what else is going on. Also our CBC is well balanced but unavailable in the US except at the border. Pity.
yesterday's grid was horrendous... I found 148 words without the list... and gave up for the last one - selah...
Well, it is Hebrew!
You are quite right Haz. I didn't like that grid one little bit, and had to give in needing 69, with my eyes half closed!
hi all!
morning FMitch :)
Hi all
I didn't like the grid either! Good morning FranMag and FMitch!
Well, Wren, that's a flag I recognise! Welcome
Hi again Fran
hi Fran!! ...well done on Wordbuilder yesterday... what were your words?
hi angb!
hedges
Morning Haz I see you are finished too, it was all rather too fast for a Saturday.
Hi Franmag
morning Ang :)
Hi sherb
opps sorry everyone
You're right, FMitch. I feel like I've been cheated or something!
hi sherb, eurhythmy was the main one, then a bunch of two letter ones.
Thnx aleksia
lol
Hello, Angb! I know your flag too...
wow, no wonder you scored so well :)
Yours is interesting. Canadian, but ...
i don't always do well on the other puzzles so i work hard on wordbuilder!
thats fireworks for me and no help today.It must have been easier. bye for now. Anyone need any hints.
Click on it, Ang!
Franmag reminds me of Annie Lennox
YAY verna!!
yes angb, loved eurhythmics!
Well done verna
yay verna!
thank you Angb
I just realised yesterday that there's no time limit on word builder... I'd been trying to do it quickly... it was more enjoyable when I had time to think about it...
Wish we could go back and do archive babble grids like you can do on Sudoku.
We'll watch out for soaring points total on Wordbuilder for you from now on, sherb!
that would be good FMitch... would transform the rankings as well...
how many words today?
54 words today.
54, rycaut
I'm getting thru this a bit quick today. Do you think after all the whinging last nite Dr God is being kind?
Ang, did you click on my flag?
Friad not Angb, it's all totally random.
Wow.....stuck it out yesterday until I finished and now I have fireworks two days in a row. Any ideas for the rest of the day?
back for a chat!!
Sure did. BC. Would love to visit sometime.
yay frances!!
Hi MrP
numerous other game sites, Frances... IronSudoku, QuotePuzzler...
Hello mrpresident. Some of us are never happy. We complained about the grid being difficult, today it is too quick. Are we a bunch of whingers?
Kiwis come here occasionally...
hi mrp :)
Hello FMitch! how are you doing??
Hello again mrp
hello jilli!!
hey sherb!! nice to see you!
hi again mrp!
hi again fran!
Fine thanks MrP and done with the grid, as Haz said earlier feel cheated as it was too quick.
Hi mrp
Thanks sherb. I always forget IronSudoku and I've never tried QuotePuzzler. Must have a look.
But, FMitch, I'm taking my time and enjoying the chat with 12 yet to find and no hurry
Hi angb!!
don't feel cheated fmitch! we are here!!
oh man!! someone at the door again!! 2nd time today!!
thats the way to do it jilli Actually it is probably just as well it's a small one as I ahve a ton of stuff to do today.
what's the points total today?
500
500 points sherb.
thanks... four more words and 28 points... a few permutations there...
Back shortly.
they could all be 7 pointers sherb!
fireworks!!!!
Wow! a 20-minute grid. *fireworks*
yay mva!!!!
;)
yay riemann!
congrats riemann!
Good on ya, mva and reimann
Thought I would leave you with the Essex flag
sherb, check your word stats also, you might actually need 4 4-letter words.
YAY riemann!
and YAY MVA!!!
down to three... two 4's and a 5
duh... one was really simple S...
done...
yay sherb!!!
Congratulations sherb - so you couldn't spin it out any longer!
firewords - yawn!!!!
I can see how going without the list could become addictive... if the grids are short, and you've got the time...
Good one sherb
yay jilli!!!
But if the grids aren't short?
Great jillibus
jillibus - well done!
and so to bed, filled with dread -- 300+ may lie ahead!
forget it!! ...there's also something therapeutic about using the list... I still start at the end and work backwards...
Just logged on. Love the rhyme, jillibus!
nite jilli... good verse... :)
Hi hydra!! thx
Not to fear, jillibus dear, with the friends about, to help you out.
good one, Haz! But I'll have little time tomorrow -- bridge all afternoon and then I hope for a swim -- weather forecast is good
going to go now, enjoy the grid all, see you tomorrow!
Ah well, hope to see you at some stage. Sleep well, jillibus.
Bye MVA and jillibus
Love this place! Nighty night now...
ok, I've got my scrabble board out so I can work on wordbuilder and join in the log...
Nite jillibus
Morning all. 4 to go and I'm typing as slow as I can...:(
Never let it be said that sherb takes her games seriously.
One letter at a time, Jacula?
morning Jac :) I like to multitask, Haz :)
Something like that, Haz.:)
Except that I put in long gaps between my words and it has taken them out. Good morning,Jacula.
wh4/9! What a great word to finish on! What will I do for the rest of the day?
You could do my ironing, spellit...
Good morning spellit. Get out your scrabble board and try to beat sherb in wordbuilder on quote-puzzler.
Funny but my wife said that this morning...
That reminds me, I must e-mail the quote-puzzler boss to see why it won't let me join!
oh no... I fear I might have given rise to great expectations... I'll probably score about 10...
Hi Hazel - I'll have to have a look at this QuotePuzzler
I don't believe this! The 4 words I am missing (2 e's, a g & an s) are all 4-letter words.
sherb has been spreading the word about it. www.quote-puzzler.com.
done
if only it had a better chat log... it's not really a place to hang out, unlike Babble...
any se 4,8 clues?
Congratulations rycaut!
se4/8 - involves needles and threads and me running a mile.
thanks me being stupif
Not at all. We'll be jumping on clue-seekers with great eagerness today.
LOL, Haz.
Fran set a tough benchmark yesterday... 147 points...
I had been feeling pleased with myself yesterday, sherb, in the lead on wordbuilder until Fran stepped in. But I'm not bitter....
fireworks
Not fair! (Stamps foot) Why won't the site let me join??
Still, time to get some things done. See all later!
Well, that's fireworks for me. And congrats davetysall.
See ya Haz. See the rest of you tomorrow
bye all and thanks
jac, did you email doug?
bye angb and dave!
Fran - will do it later today.
later Haz... I'd better be going too... later all :)
fireworks!!!!!!!!!my first set!what a great feeling..
bye sherb!
yay buthy!!!
I have fireworks.:)
yay jac!!!
haz, sorry about bumping you off wordbuilder! it's usually my only chance for a star so I spend a lot of time on my solution!
Well done to all the finishers. I must go and have breakfast now and then do the weekly shopping. TTFN. x
bye jac!
hello
Hi scv
hogs
hah! the shorter the better. unless that means harder? i'm not sure ;)
Strange one...or I am slow this morning...probably the latter.
Well done all you finishers. I am stumped already on a measly we4/11. My monkey is exhausted
Hi ExWren there isn't a we4/11 only a 4/8 and 4/9
There is on bj's list!
If you are using Brandyjacks list it is wrong for the first time ever! There are only 2 w in the grid and BJ's list doesn't show any of the J's
FranMag - still here? I'm just back on after having a shower etc. Apology accepted about wordbuilder! But you know that I'm joking - it's just a game, well done!
can anyone clue the OA for me please?
No OA's for me
I'm doing poorly today...brain is cramping!
oa5 - plural desert watering hole
Thanks Haz
Thanks haz. tried unsuccesfully to monkey it
SE4/6 please? Not the lily one.
Hi everyone, short and sweet or short and sour?

Bit sour for me ...
or, was sweet until the last 3 for me ;)
thanks, I guess I'll get started then
Morning - happy Saturday. Short grid!
thats one that im missing as well, cal
village elders.. a few usless facts of members. no registered males in top 20..4 in top 50 and a ratio of 1/7 male to female in whole list,,.57 male/367 female. does this mean ladies are better at word games,or lead a less hectic life than us males.
neither!
Everyone OK?
just wonderful matty
Hey Pres - how goes it?
doing fine, matty. Only 49 to go, lol
havent been able to monkey it scv :(

We're toasted!
I'm fine, mrpresident, thanks. Just lurking now that the grid is done.
Atalante, last Sunday's grid is worth looking at. More babblets than you would believe. But, more importantly, is the dog okay?
Cheers Ata - how do you like the vintage *clink*
dog's fine! she had a wonderful time! she got to run on beaches and in forests and chased rabbits and met loads of other dogs and even went into a castle!
I fly to the States a week from today - hope everything calms down by then.
That's good to hear! And you, did you have a good time?
matty, where are you flying to?
here here matty!
Newark.
a lovely time! coming back was kinda interesting with huge amount of security checks - we came back on Thursday lunchtime. we spent a few days in Aachen, then drove down to Luxembourg and faffed around in gorgeous countryside for a few days :)
Atalante, you were right in the middle of it on Thurs.
I'm glad all went well.
1 left - je4,13 - tried lots of words, none fit. HELP

Bye matty
Later Matty. Thanks for the drink!
Fireworks for Rumple and Matty, and I just woke up and am starting. 54 words---I can do this.
I thought I could do it Scrabbler and I'm still here. It's Matty's fault though...she teleported champers to us and I am toasted!
No, resist!

Believe me I am trying...
Very odd grid today.
Only 1 central vowel.

Isn't it fun to enter strange words and then some get rejected and others, wow, that's a real word
it should be a word
I tried it earlier ...
A Phantom hey
Have to go again be back later
I have now taken to trying all the letter combos I can in hopes...
That's what I do-----rejection, rejection, rejection, bingo!
It does work.

Good luck Izzy
You will do it, izzy, we'll help you if necessary with the last nasties ;)

That's what I've been trying for the past 15 minues, allstar...

you already have the ones with the a and e keep going
Ata! *hug*
Go Izzy
that was my problem child too Jera, and the 5 that goes with it
Thanks Scrabbler, thanks everyone!! You are all so very friendly, if you need anything I'd always be happy to help. :) xx
See you all later, going to eat some breakfast
I felt silly when I found the si...
Teamwork is what makes this game and site special :)
So the house is still asleep, I actually have time to chat... how has everyone been? I'd been ages since I've hung out here, let alone finished a puzzle!
and friendly people, this and my teacher chatroom are the only places I chat
Type silently, Jera, to protect the rare quiet LOL
Im kinda tired, I dropped my hubby off at 5 to catch a flight to Vegas
Oh yes, sprite... I'm trying...
PappouTed... you're a teacher?
You're right Jera. My mum comes on here and talks sometimes, (Jeanniejinx) she says you are very nice people xx
5 a.m. here
Vegas...my home away from home!
I love Vegas, was out there the last week in june
7 am here... we were up late watching the meteor shower...
5 a.m. is night, not morning. You are entitled to being kinda tired for sure ;)
how was it, jera
well its 7a.m. now but dropped him @ 5
*turns green with envy for the meteor shower*
We saw some nice ones... the Moon was a bit bright, but no clouds...
ohed
The Perseids are my favorite. not too cold
im not a gambler so its not a big deal to me-besides he there for a convention so I would be alone most of the day/week
We camped out in the back yard, it was awesome!
Now I'm really going for breakfast, see you all later
Bye, PappouTed... nice meeting you!
Bon appetit, Pappou
bye Pap
oops, I am so sorry. I keep getting mixed up and putting words in the chat box instead of the word thing. I am sorry folks, it was accidental. xx
Later Pap!
No problem, izzy... we've all done it!
I do that all of the time, Izzy. It embarrassing when I type in non-words.
more than once!
It is a wrong setup of the site, we all do it.
So what's the icon theme for today? I'm still wearing my stelae from yesterday...
Thanks you everyone glad you understand :) xx

ty
Yes to both, allstar.
hmmm, tnx
bye all
Bye allstar
You will see fireworks in place of the tile stats. I saw them for the first time the other night.
So what's the icon theme for today? I'm still wearing my stelae from yesterday...

Hi Everyone!
Hi Flask
Hey Flask
hi, flask
Only 54 words.....mmmmm.......suspicious!!!
Thanks, pam... I'm happy with this one... it lasts more than a day, LOL
lol!
It's not too bad, Flask1
Not too hard, Flask. But fun. Some interesting words.
Oh good!......cos' I haven't managed to finish for a few days!
ed 4,6? I must be a moron.
ed + present tense of done
ed + act :) And join the moron club, we all have been there with words like that.
I am a charter member of the moron club!
THANKS! Signed, The Moron
I remembered it from before...
YW Signed a fellow Moron!
I'll be recording secretary of the moron club
One of those freaky "Babble words"
For sure, Jera :)
See, Jera, that's my problem and why I am a charter member, I have fun at each grid, but I remember maybe 50% of the non-everyday words...
Okay, one more G, one more S, one more 4, one more 5. Guess I am getting there. And the 'babblets' are notorious for being forgotten, I secretly believe that is what they are there for.
My neurologist recommends this site... I have memory trouble, so I'm alwasy so proud when things stick!
Makes sense, Jera. And, you ought to be proud!
That's wonderful, Jera! Training the memory and having fun at the same time, must be some neurologist to recommend that :)
Plus the lovely sense of community... I've missed that the most, I think!
My neurologist told me when my memory fails, I will forget things.
a clue for di4/6 please?
Off to start the day. Still 12 left but I will be in and out till I get it!
This is a great community. Can't even be ruined by some trolls ;)
Insightful neurologist
Jera--are you a lot then? I ask because you say "miss."
Ditto, sprite!
How much did s/he charge you for that, Byzan, LOL
Have a great day, Odin ;)
A different way of saying you dunked something in sauce
I used to be, pam, been gone most of the summer, sick and/or busy
duh--Jera, are you *home a lot...
omg!!!!!.....what a fool....thanks!
TY Sprite
Oh, I see... I misread...
Yes, this is a fun place to be!
Oh, yes, pam, I'm home a lot... disabled SAHM
8 left and I must must get ready for work now. I have to earn the paycheck.
It's good to see you back, Jera. Hope you will be able to be here more often.
I volunteer for a virtual-based org, so that combined with this keeps me talking with people I otherwise would never meet--LOVE it!
I hope so, too sprite... I'm not even looking at my stats...
SAHM?
Bye, Scrabbler!
Stay At Home Mom
Bye, Scrabbler
Who cares about stats. Being here and having fun is what counts :)
brb... potty break
duh!
Sprite--amen!
Okay now... how hard can it be to find one tiny 4 letter G word. *goes off hunting*
phantoms: ewes, said, pilot, and width
Especially width! And yes, fireworks :)
may the force be with ye, sprite
My first ever fireworks!! Thanks for your help everyone, I am very happy to help anyone out. xx
I can be SO blind to simple words. Well, found it and glad just the same. Anyone who needs clues?
yay, izzy!
izzy, WTG! Is that a kick or is that a kick, hehehe :)
Congrats, sprite
I'm back... what did I miss?
Thanks everyone, lol, glad your so happy for me :D

:D
I still remember my first. Really! It gave me a real kick, LOL.
Thanks everyone *extra thanks* I am really happy
My first time finishing was kind of a let down... no fireworks back then... without the list you'd never know you were done!
I was pretty jazzed, too, sprite!
goodmorning!
Greetings, phandmd!
hi, phand!
wtg iZZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's true for me as well. We didn't even have lists back then. Just some nice guys who checked how many words in total, and sometimes the breakdown for the first letter.
and salutations!
Hi phan
Is brandyjack still around, sprite?
I miss those days, sometimes sprite!
I use lickety's list now, haven't been to BA in ages
Your so nice everyone!! MY mum has only ever got fireworks twice, so I am quite pleased.
bj was on the other day, jera
Congratulations... and salutations.... Isn't that a song? Jera: yes, as far as I know he is still one of the faithful servants of this site.
I am at 24 words; need clue for ga 5 pls
I like BA
That's good he's still around... I should check out the BA board & catch up
si5/14 any clues please
pam: so do I! But I do love the growing community, and the stats are nice.
I don't know, my kids listen to Adventures in Oddessy and a character on there says it
ga5 = plural of fuel, w/o doubled consonant
I swear I tried that
si5/14 = a method of attack... sitting outside a castle
Ga5: plural of not liquid or hard, single consonant in middle.
ty got it
Lol, you beat me to it, Jera. I am off, have a great day/night/whatever all of you and thanks for the fun again :D
Agreed on the community. the tile stats are INCREDIBLY helpful
I say greetings & salutations (is that from Charlotte's Web?) since it's often not morning/evening around the world
Have a good one, Sprite!
Bye, sprite... lovely seeing you again, hon!
Same here, Jera *hug*. Be well :)
bye Sprite

hi hodag
Hello, sha & charm! How are you today?
Hi, Jera! been a while....
ok thanks
Yes, we have been sick and/or busy a lot this summer! I've missed you guys!
I hope you're feeling better? is it something likely to recur?
well, this short grid has ruined my day!
good morning.....tiny little grid here today
Hey, Dorens.
Just a flu-y thing... the cough is hard to shake! But I have started biking again which is helping me get stronger
Why has it ruined your day, Charm, were you planning on using us to avoid less pleasant tasks? Hmmmmm???
Greetings, Dorens!
ack, flu can be bad, Jera. And coughs (is it just getting older) seem to last longer than I remember. Glad to know you're getting there.
Now that I'm finished (gosh, it took me all of a dozen minutes!), I have to 'real' things like (shudder) housework. And without excuses to sneak off for a bit of babbling.
you can always come back and chat charm
yes, but my habit tends to be that once gone, Elvis truly has left the building.
My family is still asleep, so I am enjoying the peace & quiet...
I remember those days....now my kids are all grown and gone and I sort of miss it....this peace and quiet which was so rare...it is always here now. Not that I don't like it, but....
We've been up for at least an hour. The 4yo jumped on the bed and asked me that since the sun was coming up, was I awake yet.
Oh Charm. you are not the kind of addict that I am.. you are lucky......I stop in from time to time for no reason at all...but that may be because I have no 4 year olds around
yeah, between the 4yo and 80 pounds of puppyhood, 'free' time is not always freely available.
afternoon all :) how many today?
Hi, marso. a mind numbing 54.

There's nothing like a crazy mother dragging you out of bed at 1 am to go stare up into the sky to make a kid sleep in, LOL
How was it, Jera?
Rather nice... the Moon's a bit bright, but no clouds for a change!
I'm not much for astronomy, but my sister (who unfortunately for purposes lives in NYC) is an avid stargazer. I'll have to check in with her....
It's a bit of a joke you can't even see the stars in NYC... hopefully she made it out away from the light pollution...
i love meteor showers, but fell out last night and couldn

Huzzah for Flask!! *throws confetti*
congrats, flask!!!!!!!!
Mmmm...ok...ask!
theres no wi4/11
There is no wi, Wyrd...
there is no wi
oh! no wonder i cant find it!
2 more annie...se4,6 and se4,4
There's a we4/8 & a wh4/11
Wyrd no such beast
thank you Jera and verna
Do you have those, Wurd?
errm, no but let me looksie first to see if i can find them
Oops, I mean Wyrd
Hurshy....what is it???
bean , do you have 6 in spanish without the extra letter
thank you!
flask - sorry - took a while to type - a while ago you posted in the list vs. listless topic thread on babanon that someone had reduced you to tears over this issue... it wasn't me, was it? i just wondered because i know i've irked people at times, and i haven't ever seen anyone else say anything that i thought would be hurtful, but i didn't remember having any chat with you on the subject at all, and was just all-around mystified about what had happened.
huh?
Those are the only w's total of 2
bean, se 4.4 ...six in spanish
last one se4,6
last one se4,6
got it annie..thanks...now just that last clue
se + opposite of stop... other one, change last letter to plural
bean se is a short version of a section of something, plural
no Hurshy....it wasn't you at all......it was done privately........and yes I was reduced to tears....and it was somebody here........now am just very wary now!
everyone else has been wonderful!
I can't imagine fighting over such a silly thing *rolls eyes*
including you Hurshy!!
Someone was saying you shouldn't use the list??
oh dear, flask, whatever it was, that's awful!
Yes Annie...it was horrible....especially when we are on opposites sides of the Atlantic!!!
flask, was it about the list....because i have been made to feel bad about using the list at times, so be it!!
i dont' get it annie?
ok, good. it's just, because i personally haven't happened to see anyone else say anything along those lines, i always kind of worry that people are talking about me when they say they've been upset. thanks for setting my mind at rest on this one at least.
bean, its a dumb babblet, ok, se +7th letter and plural
Good morning ll. I respectfully suggest we desist from expressing our opinions about acceptable or unacceptable ways of tackling the grid. All that matters, diverse as we are, is that we respect one another as much as we love one another
FIREWORKS!!!! YIIIIPPPEEEE
bean, change last letter of other se4/6 to plural consonant
bean66, yay!!!!!!******!!!!!!
Good morning, hetty=peacemaker!
THANK YOU GUYS...
Morning Hetty!
Huzzah for bean66!! *throws confetti* (running low, better cut up some more...)
Fireworks
Hetty, as usual, you nailed it!
Huzzah for flosey!!
I was asked a question....and | was only answering it!
congrats, flosey
ty Jera
don't worry hetty, we weren't discussing the issue itself, just clearing up a peripheral, personal point.
Flask, I was just reading your bio... my aunt has polio... I have spina bifida...
how old is your aunt?
tks Annie
I frequently use a wheelchair, although sometimes I can get away with a walker
About your age
lol...am much safer and faster in a w/chair!!!
Me, too!
over here....am considered one of the youngest victims!
and now it's coffee time!
Especially on a field trip... I lead a Junior Girl Scout Troop & they are fast, LOL
One of the things I love about babbling is the free and frank expression of ideas. It's because we are a self-selected community that we are so sensitive to the feelings of others.
I love the diversity...
hetty, I love your icon....
Hi Flask1 my husband and I are walking in the borders tomorrow. Around Peebles hope the weather is good.
Hetty it was never my intention to mention on here....but Hurshy was concerned......that was all!
it's so funny, jera, i know you have spina bifida, but your screen name sounds like some sort of female superhero name, and you are clearly such a strong person internally, that i always picture you like that, a strong woman standing tall with the wind in her hair...
Is the theme supposed to be flags today?
Hi Verna, is it for charity?
hate to leave but must, be back later!
No its just for pleasure. we are planning on doing about 10 miles.
good morning
Oh Hurshy, I would have put you down as romantic!!!...lol
Thanks, hurshy, I still feel that way, even though my dancing days are over... I am thankful I had them & honor the memory. It was suggested to me awhile ago that I should change my name... but I AM Jera ShadowDancer... that's me
sorry I would NEVER*
Flask1 we have a journey time of about 2 and half hours to get there. We live in County Durham.
Oh, you mean Jera sounds like a superhero? It's actually quite an ancient Name... it's from a Rune meaning harvest in due time...
so you gonna drive thro my wee town.....?
with regard to the icon, Annie, I hunted for a long time for a flag that was not an expression of nationalism, and mymuse gave me te dea of trying <www.thepeacecompany.com>--a super website
if it says t 1/2 what does that mean
brb with a flag...
yeah, jera sounds like a superhero to me... maybe some silly association with xena or something
if it says t1/2...then its a mistake...lolol
What is your wee town.
Jedurgh
the box the t is in yellow the 1/2 is in white
sorry i am new if it is a joke never mind
Hurshy I was only teasing when I said about you not being romantic!
the white number is how many points that letter is worth, smiley
Hey, one I might actually finish!
i know flask :)
thank you hurshy sorry flask i am not as smart as you
Its a lovely drive thru Jedburgh
Smiley - each tile on the grid corresponds to one in the tile stats underneith so t 1/2 means you have found 1 word and there is another t word that starts from that tile.
sorry - afternoon all
Sorry Smilley.....I thought someone would have jumped in quicker to tell you!!
thsnk you that is understandable i appreciate it
oh, oops, i thought smiley was talking about the grid. yeah, if you're talking about the stats below, listen to fmitch
I think I should leave before I upset anyone else today!!
you haven't upset anyone, flask
Dont' you dare go Flask I've only just got here!
lol....
did any of you notice that I was on yesterdays grid too?
I'm back... refresh to see my Girl Scout Flag...
hi everybody
nice one Jera!
this seems like a tough board
Hi Jera, long time!! Hope you and the family are keping well.
hi everyone
Ok...am going....I feel a coffee coming on....
We are trying, FMitch... I still have a bit of a cough & the Sprite coughs a bit at night... but we are on the mend... I've started back with my biking, so I am getting stronger
love to you all.....BYEEEEEEEEEEE!
Bye, Flask, nice meeting you!
Bye Flask will let you know how the walk wnet.
Bye Flask and Hi Cathyar Good to hear that Jera and nice to see you back in babbleland
clue on the "d" word?
put your chip in the salsa, british spelling
The British spell it that way?
i dunno, but they spell spelt and learnt and stuff so i was assuming...
I'm British and I don't spell if that way and don't know anyone who does.
all in the past tense of course
Makes more sense ... but doesn't make sense, you know?
I'm trying to fit in the same with a "w" up front. :P
I've never come across it spelt like that.
well, i think atalante does. it might be on the old-fashioned side to spell things that way. i do it too sometimes, for fun.
but that would be whipt :)
I figure I can randomly subtract an "h" as the British are dumping a second "p"
the d probably means something else entirely and i was being silly
maybe you can only past tensify things that way if you wouldn't double the consonant to add -ed
That spelling of dipt doesn't appear in Chambers dictionary what can I say!!
(and there's no wi, if that helps, frazer)
Some older spellings in English (learnt, spelt, dipt etc) derive from what inguists call "strong" verbs, Anglosaxon in origin--such stringverbs inlect in the mif=ddle also (swam, swum; sing, sang etc)--the fashion f adding "ed" as a sign of the pasttense is relatively recent in the history of our common (and uncommon!) language
Umm verna, you used the woorrdd!
Sorry about that got carried away with the chat log forget about the grid. My apologies.
man, dictionary.com is slow today
and those are *linguists. For more complete definitions than Chambers offers, consult the OED
hetty to the rescue again, thanks, always learn something new in babble land.
I'm very new to babble and obviously have a lot to learn.
Awe verna I was only teasing, it is so easily done
I'm baaack... what did I miss??
Oooh hetty is preaching! *sits quietly at hetty's feet & looks up adoringly*
I love history, & I love words... so history of words is extra great!
wheee fireworks
BTW, if anyone is interested, I just expanded my bio...
now I can go to bed, nite all
Huzzah for Misu!!
next time on Etymology Hour with Hetty, learn why some words are the same plural as they are singular
Verna, learning can be lots of fun. Our language is a hoot, really. For instance, take what I'v etold you and apply it to the verb to dig, and you will find an anomoly--"d", dig, DIGGED (not DAG), dug
well, that's cause dag sounds silly.
I told you I was a Hettymologist
We are studying Latin this Summer... fascinating the differences & similarity
:)
I enjoy etymology also ... but as a (former) journalist, I think there's a point where you let some usages and alteranate spellings die the death they deserve.
i love etymology too :)
As I screw up alternate.
Your profile is very interesting Jera
aw, you journalists... too pragmatic
lol frazer
hursh, I contend that "dag" sounds no more silly than "hung" insteda of "hanged"--anf thereby hangs a tale!
Aww, you linguists ... too ... whatever the word is (insert something Hemingwayish here)
(joking about dag, hetty) :)
too WORDY!
:p
Jera have you ralised it is a year today that you joined babble?
see, now if you were not a journalist, you would have known the word you wanted to say
perhaps romantic or sentimental would fit the bill
I knew plenty of them ... but they were all concise, and those don't please linguists. :P
oh sure, just write things that are easy for people to read, why don't you
and fraze, I beg to disagree, may=be because of my age--I love all things old including old spellings and usages,and find that knowing where we came from, linguistically as well as in other ways, enables us to know who we are
Oh, btw ... in the centre court area outside my store, we have the British Crown Jewels (the reproductions, of course) on display.
So if I can grab anyone a crown or tiara, just drop me an email. :)
Not for me thanks. we have the real thing in England
As far as concision (conciseness) is concerned, no one said it better than Eric Blair--aka George Orwell--in "Politics and the English Language". Now I rest my case
his name was eric blair and he wrote as george orwell? weird. eric blair sounds much hotter.
Don't mention the Blair word everyone will think of Tony!!!!!
well verna, i don't believe in beating around the bush
Well done hurshy.
ty, ty
If there's a reason for Eric's penname hursh, I don't know what it is Probably some bullying editor
Maybe Tony should be bullied into changing his name too
he could've been a beatle... everywhere he went, women would be going, is that eric blair, author of animal farm and 1984? eeeeeek!
nobody would do that with george orwell.
Maybe Tony should just be "changed"
it's the same problem as with sheldon.
Thats the very least that should happen to Tony!!!
why a short grid on a day when Tom is home and I could play all day????
oh yeah -- good morning, all!
What's the problem with Sheldon--are you speaking of my adored son-in-law?
it's my fault, stid, i have other things to do, and the babble gods decided to favor me today
but i defy them by chatting away
happy babblin' b-day Jera! (just read down in the log)
LOL hurshy!
Hi stid! This means more stories, don't you know
okay, diving in....
hetty - it's a "when harry met sally" reference... sorry to your son-in-law
hello all
help with the do4/9?
happy bday jerra
oops jera
Morphy sounds like cows
Well, Idon't know who Harry and Sally are, so chat away, hursh
huh, thought for sure i treid that, ty
oh hetty, harry and sally are classic. you should watch that movie (billy crystal, meg ryan)
oases
oops
Morphy does NOT sound like a cow.
silly silly silly, but if haha is a word, why not hehe?
sure i do! MOOOOOO!!!!
it does if a horse morphs into a cow
because haha isn't the laughing, it means something else entirely... fence, hedge, something like that, i forget, but i have read it in jane austen
ok, just to check our geek quotient. how many tried geas as a word?
I'm back... had an emergency outside... Gwyd shrieking like the hounds of hell were chewing on him...
So I'm not very good at hints either. Maybe I should stick to doing the grid.
***I know hurshy... just being silly! ***
well, and is Gwyd okay?
You see how we learn from one another? I've pyut the movie ("Billy Crystal"?) in my little book of useful titles
ohhh
I did try it, then remembered the babble word that switches the vowels around, Morphy
FMitch... was it you who said it was my anniversary? I dind't realize...
lol hetty, the movie "When Harry Met Sally" stars Billy Crystal as Harry and Meg Ryan as Sally
nice flag stidmama
Stid, you --being silly? Never!
i was surprise dgeas was not in my dictionary. reme it from my d&d days...
you must be teasing me hetty, you can't really not have heard of billy crystal
Thank Hursh. I shall take it out next time I'm at the movie gallery
Oh he's fine... the Sprite took a toy away from him cuz it was covered in ants... then he was covered in ants... he was mad about the toy, though, not the ants...
Jera, yes it was noticed when I was looking at your flag
thanks, Wyrd, wanted it to be warm...
Wow, how about that!
LOL Jera! sounds soooo familiar!
I think I'm gonna change my flag again... this one isn't looking the way I want...
and I wasn't teasing, honestly. I have never heard of Billy before. Cultural (as weolol asage) differences
but billy crystal is... i mean he's been acting a long time... and he's hosted the oscars a lot and stuff...
that should be *as well as age..
Never watch the oscars, sorry
AND he played miracle max in the princess bride.
(hurshy says with an air of producing the trump card)
see, until I watched Princes Bride I didn't know who Billy Crystal was... *ducks flying fruit from others in log*
AND I've never seen The Princess Bride--another title on my list as of a few days ago
a mere 22 to go...
According to Webster "haha" is a fence set into a ditch in order not to hide the view from within, (sounds to me like a useless enclosure)
is it 54 or 56 words today?
well hetty, i love old things, very very much, i love cary grant, and katherine hepburn, etc. so hopefully that means you can trust my opinion on more recent movies :)
54 today ronnielee
Guten Morgen, everybody
Its 54 and dont use Brandyjacks list ronnie
54
You see, we live a sequestered life, Alan and I, with ony children and grandchildren striving to bring us into the twenty-first century
thanks jera
Sounds lovely, hetty!
thanks stidmama
oh but the princess bride and harry/sally are from the 80's, so this won't bring you into the 21st century :)
Hi inge
and you, of course, hursh. Tell you what--I'll report my fndings on Billy and the Princess if you wil do the same with "NORMAL" (a DVD with Jessica Lange and Tom Wilkinson, maybe me favourite actor nowadays)
help on the se 5/10?
you have to tell me more, hetty... what sort of a movie is it? i don't watch anything scary.
It's a marvellous study of the effects of transsexual
The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies... I quote from it frequently...
behaviour on a sound marrige
Morph- se 5/10 means to grab...I would normally spell it with a z.
hetty -- I do promised to watch NORMAL -- as soon as I can find it...
I looove scary movies... psychological scary, not gory, though
sorry about the split. I mentioned this DVD a few days ago, and said at the time that I thught it must be based on the true story of Jan Morris. Google him/her
urf, that sounds awfully heavy. i don't so much do heavy either. couldn't make it through schindler's list...
thanks for the clue hithere!
i gots my flag now!
Cool, hurshy!
ty! weird word
I know, Stid. I can't find it in Columbia,or I would buy it--but Movie Gallery (isn't that a franchise in the U.S?) has it
great, hurshy!
Is my new icon showing now? It supposed to be the space shuttle launch
LOVE it, Jera (hadn't see the new one)
hurshy thinks to herself, flag icon? the choice is clear, it must be the UFP flag and no other.
seas
hursh, it isn't heavy, just life and love afirming
That was soooo cool, a launch of the 4th of July!
oops morphy...i just did that not too long ago

no no stid, just save that one for last and we'll figure it out then
okay... got the AGs

Hi Haz Didn't see you come in there with the babble hic up. Had a good day?
Hello FMitch - the usual Saturday things, shopping etc. I'm just taking time to see how things are going on here.
help with the ga5/14?
Hi Haz--having some hiccups of my own today because my computer fails to acknowledge a word. If you have any influn=ence on Dr_ God, please exert it!
ga5/14 is a plural for what Americans call petrol.
Oh hetty what's up?
how did I not see that? D'oh!
ty, haz!
Hello hetty! That must be frustrating for you. Do you want me to e-mail Dr-God or have you done that yourself already?
You're welcome Morphy.
HAve you tried F5 refresh and or logging in and out hetty?
Yay! Fireworks!
E had a little chat today about the di4 word; litle did I know that wn I entered it it would not register! Cybernetic revenge! I've pleaded with Dr_ God, refreshed and rebooted endless times , and still he word list shows complete but e stat tiles refuse to admit my poor little di** wor
down to my last word now...SE5/10
evan - carpe deum (latin don't know how to sp it) se*** the day
I can understand why you're annoyed, hetty. I would be as well!
thanks fmitch! samis got fireworks!!
Congratulations evanadine!
And thanks, Haz, I've had quite an exchange with Dr_God--who tells me the list cannot be wrong (BUT IT IS!) and then bids me do as I have already done many ,many times. I hate to give up. Perhaps if others take up thei ssue he will hear them, think you?
Can't believe it is that word causing the porbs hetty- that is so unfair esp after the discussions. Woohoo evan congrats
This is di4/6 sounding like a past tense?
I have fireworks. And I have a little di** word with no problem
yes that's the one Haz
No, I ws joking, Mitch--sort of serves me right for pontificating about strong and weak verbs and all that---a kind of linguistic karma
What was the discussion about - were other people having difficulties as well?
yeah, i didnt have a problem with the Di word either... :/
help with the se4/6 please, I have se + opp of stop, what is the other? I think I've tried every combination!
Hetty, have you tried logging out completely and switching off your PC, then come back in again?
Not with entering the word Haz just is origin etc
same 1st 3 letters, then the plural on the end
Make the other se4/6 a plural - it will end up looking llike many little parts.
I think I'll maybe toddle of fto jilli's house later and try to log in on her computer--but of course my list will no doubt appear in its mangled form there too. Hz, you can read our discussin about "slept", learnt etc at about 9a.m.
kristin change the last vowel to a snale
Thanks Evan, I guess I tried every combination but that one!
*snaje
*snake
I'll scroll back, hetty, and try to decide whose side I'm on.
Thanks, exwren, and mitch, I have turned off the computer and rebooted 3 times--nothing changes
You've tried kicking it?
Hopefully it will sort itself out over night,either that or do try Haz's kicking approach.
You can tell I have a real empathy with computers and all things technical!
Inge, having problems typing today?
I guess so. I always have typing problems, though
well thanks to all for clues, fireworks for the first time in a long time!
Congratulations kristin!
Bravo, kristin
well unfortunately I still have 6 hours at work, guess I'll have to actually work now!
hey everyone... ed4/6?
Haz, the linguistic discussion starts at 10:04
n/m got it
Thanks hetty, I'm just coming to it.
going to write some letters now. BBL
and continues until the subject of Blair/Orwell is exhausted (which is when I was)
All finished and without asking for a clue....FIREWORKS!
Fireworks! And I didn't have to get any clues. This is the first one I have finished since I went Pro. Good day all!
Okay, I've read it and now understand the irony of your not being allowed to enter the very word under discussion. There's probably a latin phrase to cover the situation , but one doesn't come to mind right now! Tiresome!
WTG Buttonman
Congratulations to the finishers!
Way to go Bluegirl
hetty - 'tiresome' brought to mind Georgie from the Mapp and Lucia novels. Have you read them, or is that a silly question to ask a Literature professor?
Bye all!
at last fireworks!!!!wd to all finishers :)
Bye Buttonman - enjoy your victory!
Congrats marso and Buttonman
cheers fmitch :)
must feed tribe now lol bye all :)
Yes, I love Mapp and Lucia--and the wonderful TV series with the incmparable Nigel and the delicious whats her name (currently an engaging Miss Marple) --and wasn't she a formidable Mrs. Proudie? British TV is my lifeline
Still searching my memory for the appropriate Latin tag
Geraldine McEwan. She was wonderful as Mrs Proudie and Alan Rickman was as Slope-like as any man could hope to be.
BBC's adaptation of the Barchester Chronicles was excellent. Did you also get 'The Pallisers' - adaptations of Trollope's political novels. It was excellent as well.
the 2nd go 4/6 pls? I just cannot see it. ty
The second go4/6 - present tense of a verb meaning to leave, depart.
go+ begin ** you mean to go on
ok maybe it's the other one I need then....
opp of stops
The other one has a different vowel after the o.
ty:)
DONE!
Time to go, ironing and the evening meal await my attention. Hetty, I hope your problem with the d word is resolved, and tndaisy - Well done!
congrats, Daisy
Bye Haz
ok onward with real life...*sigh*
hi
Am I looking right at it? I can't find the sw 4.
Ah, there it is. I didn't see that vowel.
Fireworks! I loved those double ee combinations. It sure made quick work of today's grid.
Sorry, Haz--are you there still? Was consulting Hoace to no avail--yes, I've seen every Trollope adapted for TV that has become available.
and thanks to all who listened to my grievances
any clue for the other 6 letter word?
both 6's are pl of a 5
i got the he one what the other?
do6/33
Unusual sp I was going to say the def it to seek water in a traditional method
can someone explain how to read things like "do6/33"
do is the 1st 2 letters of the word, 6 is the number of letters and 33 is the total tile vale. HAve a look at Angelsongs link below in Friends of Babble :)

Your last 2 or the last s on the list?
Fmitch, it's an se4...after the one that sounds like a bird
nevermind - got my fireworks
wtg Lbav
I was thinking of Mikey yesterday, when several babbers were exerciisng their very good German. Sadly, he expected a kind of veneration we babbles are unlikely to offer--at least, to put it more clearly, our jesting cloaks our very real esteem for one another and Mikey didn't see this
se + not was but present tense
Fmitch, have that one.
the grid says it's from the bottom s...
more clearly stated hetty thankyou,
segh
glad that wasn't a word! lol *blush*

Hi All. I was here last night and trying to work on this grid for a while; I now have 1/2 hour and still have 30 words left. I don't think this one is easy. :(

hi babbler!
finished grid this morning...now can anyone here tell me how to change my icon
i just cant do it.
be back later
Hi Annie. You admired my flag earlier; I found it on a website (downstairs, I'LL GET IT IN A MINUTE) rt.clicked on properties, and then entered the URL where it says once you have clicked on "edit"
Hello to my fellow Babblers! How is everybody today?
Another way, Annie, is to go to Google Images and enter the topic you want. When you see what you like, right-click on it and choose "Save As..." Then you can put it in your My Pictures file. When you go to Edit in My Account here, click on Browse and then you get all your pictures. Click on the one you want, and then go to the Upload button in My Account' Edit section. If you also modify your profile don't forget to click the Update button too! Clear as mud?
hi minver, how are you?
Hi Minver - I'm just here for a minute - finished last night.
Congratulations on your early finish jillibus! Hooray!

Hello Odin! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Does anybody have a clue for the si 5/14 word please
Doing awesome now that I have some time to contemplate the last 10!
I am new to this site and am trying my best to figure out the tile stats etc.
minver, 6 in spanish and a vowel
Pardon me for dropping in to ask--do you not get fireworks if you're not a 'pro'? (I got 54 words)
jilli, going to try to change my icon now. thanks. hope i can do it.
Hey all, I'm back to chat...
I'm down to my lsat nine words Odin. This is the first weekend day I've had a short grid. It is a nice break after the last few grids. I cannot to finish this grid!
Hey Jera...I'm finally back for more punishment!
You get fireworks for your first 2 week trial period.
I don't get fireworks because I'm not pro player yet.
Oh, okay. Thanks, Minveryork. I've not joined because I'm afraid I'll get addicted!
Hello Jera! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Good for you Odin! LMK if you need help...
Thanks, Min... I was here earlier, now I'm back... I'm like a bad penny...
KrisH I have not joined and I am definitely addicted!
I think that it's enivitable to become addicted to this
I just drop in a few days a week to take a break, and have never chatted before... but I do listen in (grin)
That's always fun, KrisH... we are a lively bunch...
I'd definitely be getting my money's worth if I joined.
Nice chatting with you all, it's back to work for me! (fireworks only in my mind)
KrisH you have to chat and get to know all the great people here... I too was silent my first few days but they group has a way of making you feel welcome!
Congratulations KrisH on finishing the grid. Hooray!
It is pretty quiet now in the log. I guess most people finished the grid early and are out & about. Too bad I need some clues!Oh well more of a challenge for me!
Jilli, are you here?
Jilli, I cant get the picture I want into "my pictures file"....what am I doing wrong? ...gggrrrrr
I am with you Min...9 left G5/7 E 2/3 S 2/7 & O 3/4.
min, what do you need?
odin, og 3 and 4 is an arch and pl.
odin, there is no G 5.7
TY Annie
I am not sure how the tile stats work...it show G with 5 out of 7. ANy direction on how it works would be greatly appreciate...new and needy!
odin, that means you have 5 of the seven words starting with the letter g. now which words do you need? hmmmm
Not sure how I would know that...
Odin,I do not have the tile stats yet! I go by the list.
At the risk of sounding stupid...what list?
odin, scroll down and click on lickety's list
I never used the tile stats when I had my trial period
TY Annie I never checked it out...hhhmmmmm there is a lot to be said about being a virgin babbler!
I must be dumb or something because it is a 54 word grid yet I'm completly stumped with 31 left!
reese, need any clues???
or want any clues
Sometimes the small ones can be a real pain as they tend to have weird words... even worse when they are small weird words!
I like seeing virgin babblers.It reminds of when I was a virgin babbler.I was the same way asking the same questions. I'm still a virgin since I joined not long ago
yes but I still haven't figured out that weird clue code all you other people use!
like the 6/21 and all that.
reese, which t/21, give me the first letter
I'm with you Reese's
It's easy once you know, Reese... for instance, he6/30 means a word with six letters that starts with he & have a value of 30 points
first number is how many letters long the word is.
We all ask for clues by giving the first two letters of the word followed by how many letters & point score
second number is the value of the points
by the way what is the theme?
i mean 6/21, reese
flags
i mean I don't know how to use that that weird code thingy!
Does anybody have a clue for the si 5/14 word please
Min what is that code you using?
Clue please for the ed 4,6
si5/14= battle strategy where you wait outside the castle
min and reese, si 5/14....to lay si*** to the castle
you are using i meant! oops
Reese the clue I just asked for; the word starts with si,it is 5 letters long, and it is worth 14 points.Get it?
petrol plural?
ed + prsent tense of done
THANK YOU MIN! i have been trying to find that out for ages! lol

fiz, i like your phanthom word

thx annie. and that do5/20 might come in handy if you're wandering the desert and happen to have a proper rod - or apparently you can use a pendulum as well....
Thanks again Anniebrook. I had the ed words,I didn't see to put h in front of them.Ok,I'm almost done now
YEAH FIREWORKS :)

Congratulations pysigirl on fireworks!Hooray for you
Does anyone have a clue for the je 5/20 word please?
Min, add a vowel to the name above it
min - guys name - an uncle in both dukes of hazzard and full house...
there is a song... Je*** 's Girl...
It was almost my grandson's name (not a clue) lol
oh how i wish i had je5/20's girl...
Hi again, annie. earlier you admired my icon and I told you I had found it while searching for non nationalistic flag on the website <www.thepeacecompany.com>, which had also been used by mymuse. To change your icon, go to "edit' in your account, click on the picture you already have there, scroll down to teh window for changes, and type in whatever URL you have found that you wish to use. (Find the correct address for this by right clicking on the image in question,and then clicking on "properties" at the botttom of the window that opens up)
I should have seen that one!That's my brother's name
I am done! Thank you for all of your clues everybody!
yay min!
YAY ypsigirl!
YAY Min!!!!
Hetty, I cant get the image into my picture file. I would rather do the hardest grid than this. This pensioner is completely computer illiterate. I will try again. be back to tell of results...
congrats, minver!!!!!
I have to say I love the short ones sometimes
two questions for my good friends here at Babble: the first is, whether you think "brown paper bag" is a good name for a small business that sells hand-made items?
i like it conceptually, stid, but i think it needs a little more punch - sounds kinda boring. maybe great graphic design...
stid- are you selling food?
The second is, after several years of growing my hair out, it is nearly waist length (again). I have three people I know who are undergoing chemo with its usual side effects, and was thinking of cutting it off and donating it. Have any of you ever done this, and how short should I cut my hair? (I have worn everything in my life from pixie cuts and crew cuts to curls to bobs)
brown bag lunch?
No, mostly greeting cards and scarves.
I was thinking if I had a simple name, and packaged things in brown paper, it would be 1) less expensive, 2) more environmentally sound and 3) different from the plastic and glitz stores.
stid, i donated my hair about 12 years ago and it was great. and tremendously liberating. i've got very short hair now and it's very very easy - and people say short hair makes you look young.
brown paper wrapper? no... that makes it sound like porno
On the other topic, my hair grows about 6 inches every year, so in only a year it would be shoulder length again.
stid - do you like the sound of the hand maiden? (hand made items)
Stidmama,I looked at a picture of you not long ago. I thought you had short hair (shoulder length) already.
i have no hair style- it grows long and then i cut it short- the last time i cut it off it was almost to my knees and i had it cut to my ears- i loved it everyone else was upset(the girl in the chair the next to me, my husband, etc) but, i wouldn't go any shorter than neck or shoulder, it's not so shocking for others that way
oooh! I like that idea too, Summer!
stid - my friend does the same packaging thing, and she has her kids stamp the paper first. sometimes rubber stamps. sometimes they make potato cutouts and do their own stuff.
Min -- that pic was taken easily three (maybe four) years ago.
to me, it conjures up a pretty picture. glad you like it
Hi everyone!
hi son! would you like me to cut my hair again?
what does young master stid think about the hair?
btw Summer, you have beautiful children and grands! :-)
what is today's theme I can't finds it on licketty's page
find i mean! oops
Afternoon all! Can anyone tell me why my name/list does not always appear on the "archives" list when I completed the grid? Has happened at least 3 or 4 times in the last few weeks. Thanks.
theme today is "flags" Reese
hi pup!
brb
flags, reese
Sure. It would be easier to use the headphone.
Hi stidmatt!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Hi puptone! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
hi pup - clearly it's because you did something bad and you're being punished. (i actually have no idea)
I am no longer in the archives,whether I finish or not
that's true, also easier to wash and less of a hassle when I drive.
Hetty and all, I hope I have been able to change my icon. Let

I am doing pretty well Minveryork.
yay annie! *breaks into song* God Bless America, Land That I Love!
YAY annie! it worked, it worked!
When I click on my profile I get the flag but it doesnt show up here. Fiz, do you see a flag????
gamarjoba stidmatt!
I've always wondered who thinks of the icon themes.
Annie-- you just need to refresh this flag... it's here.
garmajoba stidmama!
we all think of the icon theme, Min! we just tell Babbler and she schedules them.
no, i just was inspired to sing....yes annie, i see a flag. and a patritic version of the stars and stripes....DADADA, DADADA, DADADA (that's stars and stripes forever, i know it's hard to telll)
Shouldn't flags be the theme on flag day? Would make sense to me.
*patriotic
good point min...
what are we singing
LOL Min! probably, we were doing something else that day, I think... (it's in the history on Babbler's profile)
Hi everyone......thought I would just pop-in........am bored...lol
I FINALLY DID IT!! Sorry about the shouting...im know im being pessimistic, hope i can do it again.

Hi Fiz...what a nice surprise to see so many familiar friends.......I thought this would a ghost town tonite.....because the grid was so easy for most of us!
stid, fine with me
hi flask...
i've been outside all day, flask - just taking a rehydration break.

seems ages ago since I finished.........I want to Babble...NOW!!!!!!!
is everyone finished?
I hear you Flask! What can we do for another 7+ hrs?

That really stinks! ME when I am going to school, I never finish a grid.
Maybe I should go "pro" and get myself an icon, huh?
Hi debb

Stid I've just read your questions on the archives, and OIwonder--what abut "handmaid"? The handmaid's talents? I agree that brown paper sugests lunches (or questionable contents) and if you
Well, it isn't a country you hear about much! A little trivia is that they are in a Civil War right now.
FIREWORKS
those were all the Gs fiz. 7 altogether
ABhkazia wants to be it's own nation.

Ask for clues, I'll help.
Hi Hettu
Hetty!!! *waves franticly*

*face is red and confused look* according to licetys list I have all the words but tile stats and word count show I'm still missing an s word? I can't figure it out
Hi stidmatt! Stidmama, how about the HandmAID IDEA?
mamawa, what do your word stats say? what length word?
go 4 = For Halloween I'll dress up and ** ** a witch.
its a 4 letter word
PLEASE ANSWER, STIDMAMA
i think stidmama's stepped out, hetty....
and I love you too, stidmatt
which S on the grid mamawa?
thx scrabbler - that's perfect!
hi fran! answer what, hetty? was outside putting stuff on the line...
Hmm I dont know the answer
fran
mamawa, how many points do you have?
hi stidmama!
I have 492 points
Hi StidMama!!!
YAY Scrabbler!
MaMawa--youn thinik you have proi=nbkems? I have all my words and the stats tiles refuse to acknowledge an itsybitsy di one
oh -- just read your comment, hetty, good points. I will consider further...
frans not only the queen of clues - she's also a babbler detective
hi again son.
Oh good hetty at least im not alone * sigh of relief*
the s4/8s are stitches sounds like what you do to a fly
lol debb!
Stidmama, my idea for your marketing is "handmaid"=--handmaid's tale (nts)
hetty, do yo have the di or are the stats being naughty?
annie I have the di. I've had it for hours. I've discussed it ad nauseam. Dr God is being naughty
annie I have the di. I've had it for hours. I've discussed it ad nauseam. Dr God is being naughty
I have the stitches but not sure of other clue
mamawa, those are se4/8 and sw4/8
Scrabbler, how are your bunnies? Did I ever tell you we had two for a little while, "rescues" that had been bound for stew. They got sick and died one winter. We think the feed had gone bad. :-( Hard to know they were ill, since hadn't had rabbits before.
yay!!! fireworks!
sw4/8 sounds like what you do to a fly or a special tactical squad of the police force.
yay fiz!!!
congrats fiz !!!! ********
O
Yay, The Fiz!!!***!!!
on floor laughing
yes with an O instead of A
mamawa - didn't know sw was a real word - we always used to use it as an abbreviation for Sealed With a Kiss
sorry Fran i misread the clue
Remins me of a year ago, Stid, when we had rescue donkeys in the paddock of our swapped house in the Cotswolds
wtg fiz!
Hetty, try refreshing and putting the word back in the grid
thank you, thank you, i'll be here all week...
Okay I had it on the list but not on my grid list
They ate absolutely everything we offered, and some things we didn't offer!
My bunnies are sweet! I have raised bunnies for >20 yrs, and their nutrition is key. Good for you rescuing some rabbits. They are special animals
i've heard that about donkeys, hetty - goats too.
are you done mamawa?
Now I really have fireworks and the giggles
yay mamawa!!!!!!
yay mamawa!
YIPEEEEEEEE mamawa
WTGmamawa!!!!
ty ty for real this time
*gives mamawa an extra little tickle*
oh dear, hetty! poor little donkeys. There is a rescue place north of here in the mountains "Pasado's Safe Haven" that rescues all sorts of critters.
YAY MaMaWA
My daughter once brought home a Belgian hare during Christmas break and it broke my heart to let him go.
Congrats, mamawa
mamawa, the tile stats tell you what tile the words start with, that's how you could have seen which S the word started with.
Anie, I hate to sound sniityu, but I'e done that. Many times. And rebooted. Many times. And tried someone else's computer. And waited an hour and tried again. I'm just sick of it all. I'm afraid I'm giving Jamie a bad time
yes, Scrabbler, we enjoyed them greatly and were terribly sorry when they died so suddenly. But in no hurry to get more -- critters are expensive!
i had a foster bunny last summer - my coworker's niece was abroad for the summer and he didn't have a place to go. he was lots of fun - best part was that my cats were scared of him.
Its only the 2nd time Ive ever finished Dont usually get back enough to finish the big ones
Rabbits are sociable creatures. I even sleep with one.
*snotty How did that get so transmogrified?
*dance of joy for mamawa*
LOL fiz! yes, cats are surprising -- teasing dogs and scared of little critters (though the bunnies had very sharp toenails, as I recall).
Hetty, sorry it is not working, my snotty friend
Thanks Fiz
**psst - babblers - let's give hetty some fireworks*
******
************************************** ************************************** ************************************** ************************************** ********
sssssssshhhhhHHHHHHHBANG! WhizzzPOP!
There's a hospital in Victoria here that has its own family of rabbits--highly therapeutic I'm told
I have so many allergies, that most fuzzy critters are not on our in-house list... but in an emergency (poor Tom has lived with hamsters, rabbits, dogs and cats)
yay hetty

LOL! perhaps -- I think I was born to be nurturing. To just about everything except my own offspring! *giggle*
hey debb..who's pitching tonight
so how did i never know that the hawaiian flag was such a union jack/old glory hybrid? and how did that happen?
I don't always mean what I say, you know. Actually I love Dr_ God. as much as any stray donkey

ROFL Hetty!
ok kids - got some stuff to take care of around the house before dinner - anyone still need any clues?
okay, I have printed out a donation form for Locks of Love, which makes wigs for children. I think I am going to go grab the scissors and saw away. I'll have Tom take a couple before and afters...
by for now fellow bablers must go let the new puppy out. daughter has a new pet!! but she's at work

that is awesome stid - what a beautiful thing to do
I have that gene too Kids and dogs all love me!!

and there is a kind of palm there
thanks, Moozey, yes, cooler and lighter and all-around easier.
my problem, stid, is tht I never grow tired of it. Maybe cause I'm a aredhead? so my hair is sort of my identity...never have liked myself without the long tresses
hi all
hi candyman
I like the long hair, too -- but sometimes it just seems right to give it to those who need it more.
hi candyman
maybe, someday I will get the nerve to try it again. and of course locks of love will get it
~~~~;;;;.....,,,,FIReWORKS!!!!!!
If I had red hair, I might keep it around longer, too.
YAY Ciboulette!
But my hair is plain old boring brown. When it's long, it mostly just gets in the way.
HOOHAHH! Ciboulette!
Tom's comment, as he was snipping, was he wasn't sure if children would want wigs with gray hair in them!
lol., stid....I don't think anything about you is boring....and they CAN dye the hair for the wigs
It was pirates that captured the ship Timen Stiddem and his family were on back in the early 1600s -- eventually, they ended up in Puerto Rico, where one by one every member of the family (including the newborn) died. Several years later, Tymen made it back to Sweden and convinced that king to reimburse him for his expenses and pain. Tymen then remarried, had another family and eventually returned to the New World to establish a family that has thousands of descendents...
Very cool that you know this, Stid.
Hi Kristin!
Fireworks, that was quick and painless for a change
John stayed up for a little while, talking with his folks in the kitchen. Turns out Paul's name really is "Paul" -- and that is why he never corrected Adam and Ava about his name!
brb and will read back to catch up
Overnight, the clouds gathered, and the wind blew. Every so often, a puff of smoke would come back down a chimney and someone would cough and roll over.
Min...depends on whose kids! lol
The dog whined outside the front door, and bumped up against it, trying to stay out of the damp.
In the wee hours of the morning, Paul got up and let the dog in, securing a shutter that was banging on a window near the kitchen.
Gilly sat up when he came back in, smoothing the covers and lighting the lamp next to the bed.
The cat wandered in, and sat on the end of the bed, carefully cleaning behind its ears, straightening whiskers, twitching the end of its tail contentedly.
this attentiveness is totally amazing!
Paul grabbed a towel that hung on the washstand and dryed off his hair before taking off his shoes and sitting down with a groan.
ahhh...bk *snuggles in under the blanket to enjoy the story*
missouri beats iowa 2-0
mo won
"I missed things like this while I was away, you know. -- having to put things straight in the middle of the night, comforting the dog, cleaning up after the kids."
theyre going to williamsport
Gilly snuggled up close and he put his arm around her.
so now it's la, ga, and mo to the playoffs
is there another game?
"Well, maybe not cleaning up after the kids so much," he chuckled. "But all these other things -- taking care of the house and the animals, helping Peter on the farm, even the village meetings that always seemed so tedious."
yes
tonight? who
*hmm...why do i feel that paul will leave again in the end?*
The cat jumped to the floor, making a little plump sound as it landed on the braided rug. The dog trotted in, after checking the other rooms, and settled at Gilly's side of the bed, toes and nose tucked under his fluffy tail.
*i have garrison keeler in the background and Stid's story in front of me...:-) and a bowl of cherries, please help yourself*
ty lbdawg... would u like some of blanket?
*oh Cathy, I hope not!*
54 ASCULP
Hi asculptor! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
yum, can i have some cherriest too?
*stokes the fire in fireplace and giving her part of blanky to lbdawg*
Thanks. Feeling quite stupido until you told me that.
Gilly twisted around to see Paul's profile better. His nose was a little longer, his neck a little thicker, but his eyes still had the sadness he'd had since they were children, mixed with a world-weary yet curious expression...
np asculptor... many of us are now listening to stidmama's continuing story
yeah fireworks for me :)
u may join in if u like?
Hi to all, nice story, Stid!
*help yourself deb, plenty to share*
if it werent for the pits, cherries would be the perfect fruit
"Paul, can you tell me about what brought you here? Did you learn anything about your parents or where you came from that you can share?"
i dont know these flatheads everyone keeps mentioning ...i only know from bing
He sat up a little straighter, "But if you like, I really am not tired right now. Let's make some tea and talk."
chj - You can get a wonderful little gadget for stoning cherries. I bless the day I got mine.
Hi all, checking to see if anyone want's help...
hi jac, ibd
Paul is about to tell Gilly some of his travels over tea!!!
shh
Her feet sought the slippers, now warm from the dog, and she stood up. Paul followed her out of the room, carrying the lamp with him.
hi kristi, lb, chj, jac, et al
(sorry for shushing...been a busy day)
you DO have a free spirited mom
hi annie
Do carry on, Stid. Sorry for the interruption...
you drop nut shells on the floor to oil the floors, just don;t walk on them w/ bare feet...
sorry.....(zip)
(btw...anyone seen douglas today? he truly left an impression on me with his Eagles rendition of The Last Resort) ?
Gilly was already stoking the fire when he got to the kitchen. He picked up the old teapot and cradled it in his hands.
"Do you remember when your grandmother gave us this?"
*may have to leave...thunder storm again...sigh*
(Actually, Ren, if you have a piece of furniture with a scratch on it, if you take a cut nut from the type of wood it is and rub it into the scratch, the scratch disappears like magic. It worked on a walnut table of mine!)
crud chj
She stood up, wiping her hands on a rag. "Of course, it was the day before Abram was born. She always seemed to know when the time was right."
(Oh dear, lbd. Better to be safe than sorry though. You can catch up in the archives or on BabAnon later.)
:)
crud
aww...lbd...hang in if u can!
oh lbd, sorry about the storm -- do you think it made it out of the story to where you are?
{{{{lbdawger}}}}}
The rain started to hit the kitchen window as they sat at the table, the warm pot next to them.
i love rain
and thunder and lightning
yes twin!!! and getting to light candles...
Paul watched as Gilly put dried leaves into the pot and covered it up again. He pulled the cups closer.
i love thunderstorms best!!! if it's gonna rain...make er a doozie!!!
Hi all - and stick around, Annie for icon stuff
and living on the 23rd floor facing the ocean, now that's seeing a storm
He sat back in his chair. "I always told you about the toy I remembered from my childhood before I came here -- that little bird that "sang" to me when I was sad."
hey jilli!!! nice flag of canada!!!
(I should have my optical illusion icon on now really. It's 13th Aug. here in UK.)
hi Jill!
nice twin!
Jillibus, I finally did it! Thanks for your help!!! Hetty helped also!
ahhh...more of why the mantle bird is so significant!!!
Gilly nodded, "Is that what you showed me the night you came home?"
hey jilli!!!
Annie - Fantastic if you're on 23rd floor but not much fun if you live in a valley that floods (like wot I do)!
And yours is NS, Cath? Mine is Salt Spring Island, BC - very special and it waves if you click on it
Paul smiled, his fingers tracing the rim of his cup. "It is -- similar. The bird I had was much more beautifully ornamented, with bright stones and a gold collar."
Hi Pirate ren!
oooh...i'm gonna check it out jilli. yes...mine is NS
Jac, hope the floods are very infrequent
hi jilli
Gilly kept quiet, waiting to hear more.
4 times now, Annie.
very nice jilli!!! animated waving flag!!!
*we wait alongside Gilly with bated breath*
Stid, Is it the Maltese Falcon?
Stid - I think your patience deserves a medal!
:-)
drat
double crud
The wind and the rain shifted around again, and the fire in the stove whooshed as it got more air.
stid - sorry -- I came in in the middle but scrolled back and will catche the beginning later...caught me by surprise
just like the microwave did jilli!!!
debb, are the Mets playing now? they must be losing re: the cruds from you and chj....Yankees won!
:D ren!
Paul continued, "There were many such toys when I was a child. I remember playing with other children in the shade of a big tree in a large courtyard."
Jilli...Paul is about to tell gilly a bit of why he was away, although i think he wants the WHOLE FAMILY together to tell all
(jilli - if you need any clues for the moment we will give them to you quitely, in brackets.x)
way to go yankees way to go
*quietly
it's okay, Jill! I decided to tell the story a little earlier today because the grid was so small.
ta, cath
annie...mets are tied
*whispers* Jac, I finished last night, thanks
oy
keep asking for clues, folks! the story is not uninterruptible!
(Okay Jilli.)
what team are they playing
bye all - going to watch boxing....
Patience of a saint, that Stid woman! LOL.
the joys of scrolling chat!!! we can still give clues of course!!! and chat quietly amongst ourselves!
oh rennie, bye
'Bye Ren. See you later.
*whispers to Annie* I see you did change -- when I tuned in you were still flowery
yes, jilli, thanks to you
BOXING????? To each her own...
Ren - MSN.
boxing - instead of the story ?
*feels like a 'pregnant pause' as we await the next line from Stidmama*
Rennie, youre prettier than a boot!
hannachuh is not for months
Gilly reached for the strainer and began to pour the tea. The sweet smell of chamomile and peppermint wafted up, and the bright green color recalled sunny days and lazy evenings of midsummer.
*i bet paul missed gilly
now we know why the new shoes...for the boxing match
oops....*missed gilly's peppermint and chamomile tea when he was gone*
aha
*resisting the impulse to say that crap isn't tea - an infusion, maybe
Goodbye renfield! I will see you tomorrow in the chat
lol jilli
belated goodbye to ren...computer hiccup
bye rennie
(Jilli - herbal tea is very refreshing! But, I agree, it isn't 'tea'!)
c u ren
bye rennie!
Paul relaxed, just smelling it. Gilly smiled and walked to the cabinet. She returned with a small plate, nut cookies and dried apricots piled up.
later ren!
(Gilly's a health nut then...)
.
*stidmama? in what year (or thereabouts) does this story take place? reminds me of "Little House on the Prarie" period... like perhaps 1700's or so?
hi shorty!
shorty...your icon flag reminds me of the pac man game!!! ;)
Paul lingered over the taste of a cookie dipped in the tea. Gilly nibbled an apricot as she waited for the tea to cool a little more.
I haven't located the story in time or place yet, Cathy.
(oh...sorry stidmama...but that does seem to be the period...perhaps earlier even)
Hey everyone! Long time no play! :)
hi Jen!
hi Jen
Hi Jen!!!
Hi Jen. How are you doing (in life and with the grid)?
hiya jen!
How is everyone?
He took another swallow and sat back.
Welcome, Jen, to stid's storytime on a small-grid day
doing fabulously well, Jen!
I don't have internet at work so it's been AGES since I played!
Jen - I've just come back from a fortnight in Crete. Doing well, thanks.
oooh, crete! my hubby used to deploy there whilst in the Navy... loved it!
*canadian idiot wonders exactly what is a fortnight?*
2 weeks, cath
Like the Raki, Jen? Or should it be used to clear the drains there>
is it about 14 days?
Cathyar - a fortnight is 2 weeks.
*last nite...the week before this nite?*
hot damn! I got is right!
ahh....ty jacs...always wondered what it was!!!
"You are right that I came from a place beyond the sea. I sent a letter -- obviously you never got it -- when I finally met a merchant who 'sounded' right to me."
Never realised that word hadn't got over The Pond.
Blimey!
lol!!! heard it so often it poetry, but never really knew it meant 2 weeks ago!!!! HAHAHAHA
no, but we got the whole "score".... as in "4 score..."
the only time it crosses the pond is during wimbledon
chj - LOL.
stid??? is paul going to tell us more of his numerous "fortnights* away from his family?
cath, it doesn't mean 2 weeks AGO - just 2 weeks
scooting in for the story
Hi, all
"I learned that he was due to sail the next day. He had room for me, and the cart and donkey. I signed on as a hand to help with the animals on the passage over."
hi pam and ping
... so Paul send Gilly a letter...
hi ping and pam!
Hi ping, pam (sounds like another kind of game...)
hey!
ahhhhh....so when u say i spent a fortnight doing whatever...u mean u spent 2 weeks doing something...not "2 weeks ago i started this and just now finished it"?
(Hi Pam & Ping! Anyone need clues?)
lol, jili!
LOL, jilli.
a fortnight is 2 weeks
right, cath (fortnight short for 14 nights)
sorry...got it...just being facetious...not intending to be rude at all.
how long is a fortday?
just impressed i now know what a fortnight is!!!
haha chj
good question chj!
lol fortnight less 13 fortdays
there ya go
so twelfth night + 2 = a fortnight
"It was a rough crossing -- I don't remember ever feeling so ill. Only the animals were more miserable. The real sailors laughed at me at first, but soon decided any farmer who could keep going that long wasn't too bad."
come on, stid, more story!!!
Hello Jen! How are you doing? Welcome to story time!
and 13 nights is a bakers fortnight
ugh, chj
(Jilli - reminds me of the time when I had a chap working in hall in the house after one of the floods and 3 of my son's friends came to the door. 'Tom, Tick and Boo are here!' I yelled up the stairs. The workman had a giggling attack. 'They sound like cartoon characters,' he said.
Hello Pam!How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
[zip]
and 13 bagels
wonder if fortnight was originally tied to lunar cycle?
Hello Ping! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Gilly poured him another cup of tea while he stood up and added a few small logs to the stove.
hahaha chj!!!!!!!! ty for adding humor to what prob seemed as rude from me...tho it was not intended to be so.
michael tucker for mvp
lol, jac!
*giggles at Jac's story*
good question ping! perhaps it was!!!?
thanks, min - glad to be here for the story
cath - I don't think anyone thought you were rude!!!
oh good... i worry too much i think
yup,cath
I'm just amazed that me saying such an innocent word as 'fortnight' has caused so much discussion!
cath, you are never rude
and new knowledge!!!
:) *mushy feelings inside fer babblefriends*
bbl
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{cath}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} }}}}}
He sat down again, and sipped reflectively. The rain was alternating between a hiss and a drumbeat. An occasional flash of light came from over the plains.
bye chj...
*pleased a long-time question has finally been answered*
(That tea's gonna be cold if we don't let poor Paul drink it!)
*love thunderstorms - rare here*
bye chj....t'storms in the story!!! wish i was there to share the light show!!!
Cath, If Jacula have never gone to Crete you still wouldnt know what a fortnight is, so we live and learn
lol annie!
LOL annie...thank god jacs had a trip to crete!!!! :) :)
Goodbye chj! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log!
Gilly put her teacup aside and laid a hand on his arm. "You must have thought it would be just a short while, to leave so suddenly. What happened when you reached your destination?"
(Some of the best thunderstorms I have ever seen have been trapped in valleys in Wales. The storm rolls between the mountains, getting ever angrier or more exciting to watch.)
*now will sit quietly*
Wow, Jac
*wow, jac - yummm*
wow.....sounds awesome jacula!!! i so love a good thunder and lightning storm!
Paul shook his head. "That's just it. We didn't get there. A storm blew us way off course, and we landed in a country we did not know."
what's all this abiut a visit to Crete leading to the meaning of the term "fortnight"? What do Cretans know about English usage?
*now will sit quietly -- for the first time*
hetty...cretans don't, but english folk do...!!! methinks! ;) the english visited crete
no, hetty - cretins (apologies to all, couldn't resist)
Oh, I see, storytime--well in that case----
Hello Hetty! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
"The captain and the merchant were eager to get the ship repaired and be on their way. It was going to be several weeks, though, so I went ashore with a few of the sailors to explore. I took the cart and donkey and the merchant sent a couple of wagons from the port town, and we set off upriver, hoping to find some fresh supplies for the voyage."
have I missed some sort of protocol in the last 5 weeks?
been reprimanded by hetty
yes, jen, stick around for storytime
I did absolutelY NOT reprimAND ANYONE!
I did absolutelY NOT reprimAND ANYONE!
and catch up in BabAnon, Other stuff
Hetty - put that whip away!
soooooo, no more word hints after a certain hour?
s'ok to chat still and ask for clues of course, but stidmama's story is sooo enthralling...catch the whole thing Jen on babanon!
Jen - No.
The wind was dying down, and the sky was getting lighter. A steady drip resounded in the kitchen through the open window. The cat scratched at the door, and Gilly let it out.
(hetty...was just teasing)
what do you want jen?...hi by the way where have you been?
oh, sure, stid doesn't mind interruptions as you may have noticed ;)
you can still ask for hints, jen
The dog wandered into the kitchen, looking hungry.
Jac, what other way is a gal of 77 going to get any kicks?
Jac, what other way is a gal of 77 going to get any kicks?
hi ren!
Paul picked up the now-empty plate and cups and set them next to the sink.
hahahah hetty!
good grief, I'm sorry to be taking up precious chat log for this, but I barely have time to catch up on world news, let alone a whole story on BA
hey ya ping
Jen...clues are part of babble...stidmama tells a continuing story when time permits
Stid, I love your story.. . please forgive the interruptions
what cha need jen?
Gilly refilled the kettle and put another log on the fire.
Jen - ask away!
what clues do you need, Jen?
*(exasperated sigh) how many times must I ask you-all to stop apologizing!!!!!* *grin*
Luckily I haven't even started today ren (hi by the way!!) so I guess I will just sit back and let stid tale away...
Jen - only 54 easy words
Hetty - girl of 77? I dare not answer that, it's a family site.
I guess I just really missed out on a lot since I started back to work. :(
Oh, come on, Jen. Start the grid!
stidmama, just tell everyone they owe a half pence for each time they apologize for themselves ;) sorry just makin fun of teh fortnight thing
;)
Better not even try, Jac
ahem and this kid is 72
should be a quarter...not a half pence
Nan sleepily came into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes. She stumbled against the chair Paul had been sitting in, and he leapt forward to catch her.
that's a ha'penny, cath <VBG>
Cath, do you mean ha'pence?
Jen, you should start the grid. It is not a bad grid. I got the first half by myself and the rest went quickly with good clues.This is coming from a semi-newcomer
Paul set her on his knee as he sat down. He ruffled her hair, and she laughed.
thank, jilli
"Father, you are silly! What are you doing in the kitchen with Mother?"
hi liba!!
i can say NO when i need to.
hi, annie!
I dont remember Paul getting undressed either.
Outside, a rooster called the time, and the cat stalked silently through the flowerbeds. Gilly handed Nan a bowl of batter to stir, and pulled out a skillet.
Hello cptstabbin! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
Hetty -- it was the middle of the night when the conversation started...
HETTY!!! u dirty ole woman!!! ;) ;) ;) *laughs*
I still haven't worked that frappr site out properly yet! Mind you, I have now finally got into the quotepuzzler site! Seems I couldn't get in before because some bugger's already used my name! I've had to go in as JacQula.
I used suggestion before to sing a song to Jen using Come on Eileen theme song.
go4/6 - leaves.
lol
do 4 = plural of do* jones
he5/18 & pl.6 - leafy boundaries. (I've been cutting one of those today.)
Okay you guys are making it really hard to put together Ethan's dragon tracker! :)
*this is hilarious!
sa4/6 - wise.
I think we all have 25 left
jacs...stop using my french blood against me...i speak not a word of it (just a touch)!!! ;)
se4/8 - uses a needle and cotton. (Haz clued this earlier but also added that, faced with that, she runs a mile.)
Well, maybenot as much, but why spoil a good story?
Okay, you guys are the greatest!!!!! I thought if I got onto the chat l og after this long, people would say huh? who? Thanks soooooooooo much for being great caring people!
(was adopted at 3 months old to a father with french and english blood and a mother with english and irish blood)...can ya tell what kinda mix that'd make!!!??? ugh
cath - you're too sensitive - blancmange is a lovely white English pudding made with cornstarch!!!!
Cathyar - French is literally 'white eat'. Think of the milk jellies, usually pink. They wobble when you whack 'em! ROFLOL.
Cathyar you were adopted?Or are you talking about something else?Just wondering becuase I am adopted
cath, I am a mix of Sicilian, Irish, and Hungarian!!! What does that make me?!?!
Whewf....I was thinking of a mangy cat when the mange word was used...tks jilli for clarifying for me :)
yes minver i was adopted.
pasta stew goulash?
met my birth siblings too when i was 21
And I'm English with 2 sets of Welsh gt. grandparents, Isle of Man + French ancestors.
mmmm, my friend Gustav's Goulash.....
lol jen i'd have to think about that response ;)
Adopted means CHOSEN -- we're all mixtures
Adopted is chosen, wanted, special!
i'm jewish and american indian and was raised by by jewish grandmother
Cath - I have a friend here , age 70-something, who only found out she had been adopted.
That's cool Cathyar!I can't meet my birth siblings.Do not even know if I have any. How did you meet them?
lol...so i was told about the wanted/chosen aspect of adoption. it is true mostly. i also gave up a child for adoption...when i was 18...a little girl...just met her last november and now she's 21 (just dated myself)...when she asked about her father...i told her (i think mistakenly) that he's danish...and she said...."oh ....great!!! so I'm a French Danish!!!" lol
rennie, american indian, which?
she traced and found her birth family last year and has been in bliss ever since -- they are from Nova Scotia and have been visiting. Her birth mother had given her up because she was only 16 and in those days that was a nono. So chins up, as my dad said to my plump mum!
I'm Vietnamese,but consider myself to be American.
in canada we have the Adoption Disclosure REgistry....u just give them your name, date of birth etc...and any info you may have regarding your adoption and they will do a search for you...at first u receive non-identifying info re your family
Is that how your daughter was able to find you too?
Back in the 1970s and beyond, even up to the mid 1980s, an unmarried mother having a child was a'scandal'. Thank the Lord it is not so now!
So Jen,how are we doing with the grid?Halfway done?
i was very fortunate where my daughter was concerned...had letters from her adoptive parents for the first 7 years of her life (all transported thru my Children's Aid worker from when i gave her up)...we could never meet until she was "of age" but her adoptive parents are truly awesome...i speak more with her adoptive mom than i do her!!! (she's 21 and busy with her friends, etc)
My sister-in-law was adopted in Quebec and as far as I know is still not able to find out her background except that her mother was from Caornwall, Ontario. So she knows nothing of her medical background or anything. IMHO that's horrible.
it was easy for us to find each other.
There are members of my family who had children back in the 60s and had to endure 6 weeks getting to know their child in some mother & baby home somewhere and then have them forcibly removed from them for adoption (so no 'shame' would come on them or the family). Happy to say, both kids I know of in this case, and mothers, have been happily reunited in the 80s.
Okay, power rangers cycle is put together, LEGO town is done, Ethan is up past bedtime...I am going to sign off as I am putting son to bed then having actual alone time with hubby. It was really good talkin' to you guys again! I will try to get on to at least chat... and Mineryork, no, sadly was too rapt with the chat to start, but at least that means my "rating" won't be killed. :)
did she go thru disclosure registry jilli?
later jen
I have not played in a long, long time. I was pleased to see it was a short puzzle. It is so enjoyable to read everyone's chats. I am hoping to get to come by each day and play for a bit, even if I don't finish the puzzle.
Jen...we look forward to chatting with u again soon!!! don't stay up too late playing with the lego, ok?
and jen...nice meeting u
Nice to see you again, Jen.
Goodbye Jen! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log!
bye, Jen
good Mom!!! we look forrward to seeing u out here!! (i think it's safe to speak for others in that regard)
Welcome back, Mom! the dramatis personae may have changed -- like me, but come on in again!
I love playing with Lego. I make streets etc. I never used to let the kids get hold of it once I was in the mood for building. LOL.
HaHa Jacula!
Cath - I don't know - she gave up a while ago -- as you know, things are different in la belle province
Cathyar - bet you're only laughing 'cos you've done it yourself!
as far as i'm aware, the adoption disclosure registry is Canada-wide Jilli!!!
Jillibus, thank you. I hope to be back tomorrow.
the laws are a bit different from province to province, but i'm sure there is a provincial disclosure registry and a national one too!!!
Speaking of being raised by grandmothers, I was also partially raised by my Jewish grandmother also. Didnt speak English until I started school and didnt want to go because I didnt understand English.
wow annie...they say english is the hardest language to learn too!!!
Amazing, annie! What language was your first?
how hard for a pre-schooler that would have been to be thrownn into it!!
Well, this is back in the forties so I dont remember much. But I do remember telling the teacher in Yiddish that I dont speak English and that she should speak Yiddish. But I learned quickly and now can barely speak Yiddish.
Oy vay, Annie!!!
OY Vay is right!!!!1
I remember my maternal grandmother (who was a bit of a blonde and also a bit of a Mrs. Malaprop) holidaying in Spain in the 1960's. She came back saying how clever the children were thee 'because they could speak Spanish'.)
lol annie!!!
HAHAHAAHAAAAAAAA!!! Jacs...that's tooo funny!!!
Jac, that is hilarious!
Blinkers, eh Jac!!!
hi all: I have 2 left the se 4/4 and the se 5/10: any hints would be appreciated.
*wonders if there is ANYONE out here who has not completed today's grid?*
ahhhhh...arelene!!!
Hello arleneehm! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
oops not the 7 se** or the se** you use the eyes for
se4/4 = there are 3 of them
se 5.10 .....six in spanish and the last letter is a vowel
I'm fine....just getting back into solving this .
se 4/4 -- se ** quite easy. se 5/10 adds a 2nd vowel
did you get the one u do with your eyes arlene?
oh.....u did
arlene, again six in spanish without the last vowel
I'm out here languishing with only 16 words so far :(
se + it either ** or it isn't.
se4/4 - oceans, se4/4 - views with eyes, se4/4 - a type of whale (sounds more like the dress si** many women worry about, though).
thanks... I didn't think you spelled the spanish six like that
french 16, arlene?
cool...... I've been trying to figure those two out for half an hour
how do you spell 6 in spanish then?
Hi Kwamama!How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Kwamama -- welcome
se5/10 - a variant of a word meaning to 'grab' ( using a diff, consonant fron the zebra one).
yes, i believe it is spelled that way
i'm not sure annie, but i do believe u DID spell it correctly?
woops!!
Kwamama,I'm here to help out with clues if you need.
Jilli?
I just stop by to skim a few words off the top... seems I never have time to work on it that hard
same here kawma
she's ok jacs...she just tripped
Jacula -- just vying for attention ;)
I think you did, but I'm being dense when it comes to foriegn words
Hope she didn't hurt herself, Cath!
Kwa -- this is a teeny one - go for it!
jilli's A-OK!!! at least in my books :)
Clues anyone?
merci mille fois, cath
Get your clues now before they're all gone! (Said in a market trader type voice.)
Goodbye arleneehm.I will see you tomorrow in the log
Goodbye Cathyar! I will see you tomorrow in the log!
Poor ren! Go get an Optical Illusion icon!
there was a song in the 80's called come on eileen
see you tomorrow, Cathy!
Cathy! Leaving? A demain ;)
I was thinking of the ancient Goodnight Irene
have to...much work cleaning up after puppy found fleas
Good night and sweet dreams!
i'll go shopping for an optical illusion...don;t ya feel sorry for me jilli! oh woe is me!
byebye all :) was a nice relaxing time from the chores of the day...tks stidmama for more story...can't wait for the next installment!
Cathy -- depending on how old and large your puppy is, you might be able to give it Benadryl to help it stop scratching... check with your vet for dosage.
Oh cath - there's all kinds of vet stuff like Advantage to treat flea infestations!
Goodbye Anniebrook! I'll see you tomorrow in the log!
oh! good night irene....well there is nothing new under the sun is there?
i know....my doggie was on sentinel, but still he caught the little jumpers
are you leaving twin?
just new icons, ren :)
lol jilli!!
How old is your pup, cath, and what kind?
i'd say Sentinel was a waste of $$$ except it also combats all worm infestations too! so far no worms!
yes twinnie, have letters to write (no emails for these folks)and see you all tomorrow!
he's about 8 months old...shih'tzu. sweeet little guy he is too!
OMG - it's past suppertime and I haven't even thought about it (just for me, thank goodness)
he's had all his shots and been neutered and groomed regularly... i guess it's just "tis the season" at this point, but the poor little guy is frantic with itching by times
hairy, eh Cath?
(((hugs) )) twin
yay jill....quite a bit of fur on him, tho i had him groomed pretty short early in the summer.
but YOU jill should go get your supper hadn't u better?
I'm going to change to my optical illusion icon now. Refresh wen I put it up and I will add the intructions for seeing it on the log and on my profile (after ther recycling in UK section).
maybe that benadrylo will help -- ask the vet!
Can't wait to see that, jac!!!
Stidmama, I looked at your pictures. Who took them and how did you post them on the internet so fast?
well....i put a liquid flea treatment on him today and cleaned the house from top to bottom. the treatment takes a few days to kill live fleas, but also battle the larvae and eggs, so we'll see how he makes out. if he still has them....it'll be yet another vet expense..
*turning on the toaster oven for supper*
can't bear to see the poor little fella so frantic with itchiness
any help for some of the words sartng with O.
baking soda bath, cath?
oa = plural of oasis
no...never tried that, just his usual doggie shampoo jilli. is baking soda supposed to kill fleas? i don't wanna dry out his skin from too much bathing
og = *** whiz and plural for the 5
ow4/8 - someone with debts ow** - the other 4/8 is an anagram
the oh is an expletive
GONE for a mo...
oa 5/10 is a green spot in the desert. og 4/6 is og + two og the same vowels. og 5/14 is plural of the 4/6.
Notes for seeing my optical illusion: Stare at the four black dots in the center of the image for 30 - 60 seconds. Then quickly close your eyes and look at something bright (like a lamp or a window with sunlight coming through it). You should see a white circle with an image inside it.
the act of doing that particular expletive...like ooh's and ahh's
sorry Min, was off in my own little world... our younger son took the pics with my digital camera. It's a dinosaur, but it works well enough for this application. Tom downloaded the pics to my computer while I took a shower ( I just hate little bits of hair all over after a haircut), and then I put them online... :-)
Hello ztink! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Jacula, that is a cool illusion!
I'm so not technical savvy with pictures and internet
lol jacs...that's a neat one!!!
you put the little bitty hairs on line?
Is tomorrow's icon theme illusions?That should be fun!
LOL ren, took me a second to figure out your comment (I didn't take a nap today0
haven't played for a long time and I was never very good at this but i've got all but 3 words
go Tink go!
If not, then it should be an icon theme. I love optical illusions.I get those optical illusion e-mails all the time
If it doesn't work this small then go to: http://www.eyetricks.com/jesus.htm
i was suppose to have my hair cut today and my stylist went surfing
yes, tomorrow is optical illusions.
how do you know what he second letter should be?
we use either BJ's list (at Babbler's Anonymous website) or Lickety's clues, Tink.
Jacula, I think I have seen that one in an e-mail b-4.
Tink -- if you haven't already, when you are done today check out Angelsong's Resource Pages (link at bottom of this page) she has hints and links to the sites I just mentioned, and all kinds of great help.
thanks so much!!
*making supper - things sound so much better in French - Fricadelles de Poisson...
I went to the homepage on that website & there are 27 optical illusions. It should be useful for those who need to get their icons.
*fish cakes
Jill -- does that translate poison fricassee?
*giggle*
I'm off to bed now. Goodnight all. No, Stid, it's fish cakes!
*giggle here too, stid
i understand. i have to go to las vegas week after next on a business trip and i am not looking forward to it
i have my new icon up!
oh no! is feather's cat going to be okay?
stid -- he is getting better now that he has cut 2 of the four that are coming in, but he is still waking up at least 2 times during the night -- that combined with my working 10 hour shifts in the shop at work equals one tired wolf
especially since you had to cancel hawaii trip, eh rennie?
oh dear. Wish I could do more than send healing to him and light to you.
vegas wooo!!!!!!!
sorry wolf!!
gunface you wanna go in my place???
uh???
stid -- that is always appreciated -- one of my friends on LI suggested that he may have a problem with my snoring waking him up -- apparently both of their children had similar issues
back from my regular butt-kicking over at scrabble...have you heard anymore from Feather re: kitty?
sure you do gunface..i know you would have a better time than me! come on you know you wanna go.
hey krista!
nope
hi Krista! back to being crabby?
hey krista
i was just telling everybody about feather's kitty going to the vet
hey, i think our icons are from the same artisit
My husband is on Long Island now. I am glad. I do not have to feel guilty ignoring him as I sit&babble all day
ok gunface....
lol min!
back for a mo - ty fran for the icon compliment -- love your bulgy one too!
oh -- my regular chat screen shows your crab. I'll refresh to see you optical illusion...
not for long, Stid! refresh!
yep
Welcome back Krista! Are we all just waiting for flip?
Wow. that makes the eyeballs scream for mercy, doesn't it, Krista?
anyway, feather's kitty was dragging her hind legs around like she couldn't move them so they took her to the vet.
All these illusions are better when you click on them, right?
*gone to supper*
Oh no! poor kitty!
yes, it is rather severe. I was just about to say that, too, jilli - they look weird small
Jill's icon looks like a piece of cheese to me...
Goodbye jillibus! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log!
me too stid...i'm now hungry for cheese!
Someone else on the chat had a similar thing with her dog..I was telling her about my friend's dog w/Lyme disease dragging his legs. Now who was that?
brie is good
Min, if I may ask, what's hubby doing on LI and whereabouts?
feather looked up something on the net and it may be tick paralysis which wouldn't be too bad because it says symptoms go away when you remove the tick.
Only asking as that is my old home territory
i agree gunface...
hoping for a tick to be found... figners, toes and eyes all crossed.
nite nite everyone!!!
nite cath
nitey nite, Cathyar {*hug*}
good night Cathy!
gunface done gunface gone!!!!!!!!!! duh duh duh!!!!!!!
hi Cathy! Nite Cathy!
YAY Gunface
but kitty has a heart murmer so the vet wants to make sure it's not an embolism (sp?).
yay gunface!
night cath!!!
yay gunface - pryos for you!
hey everyone!
stid, your icon is a quilt right?
hi helen!
hey helen!
So, I have just finishing setting up my daughter's big birthday gift (in the physical sense) -- she will be 3 tomorrow :)
hiya fran!
oh. this all sounds expensive.... poor feather, it's so hard when a critter takes ill.
everybody is dressed early, lol
Yes, I think it was originally, though this particular image seems to be needlework.
great optical illusion helen, it almost looks like a band of white on a band of red!! :-)
oh my, kids need to get to bed. they are turning into night owls like their mama. Catch you all later. Hi/bye Helen!
hi helen!
night krista!! see you tomorrow!
later Krista!
Take care, Krista {8hug*}
helen - will that spray wrinkle stuff you were talking about work on a silk suit?
Sleep well, all.
sweet zzz's krista
stid - are you talking about $$$ for the vet? i just spent $1500 on my pom at the er vet - she had to stay 2 days - one of our shepherd's decided to go postal on her - can't understand why
oh no helen!
ren - downy wrinkle release - silk stains easy so i would try a corner first, but i have used it successfully on natural fabrics including silk!
feather's kitty had to go to the vet tonight.
what are the icons next to your names that look like purses?
thanks helen..i will. can you tell i know a lot about laundry???
poor little thing is traumatized - this happened tues evening - been having to go get her bandages changed every day - vet is 40 minutes away :(
ren awesome skull illusion!
they are little people that denotes our gender. pink is female, blue is male
zTink, they are people that denote male or female
thanks fran...:-D
GreyWoulf, my husband went to LI to see his mother.
LOL ren !!! sounds like we know about the same when it comes to laundry - that's why i think this stuff is fantastic - works great on cotton which is almost all i wear :)
oh helen! poor little thing, what have you done with the shepherd?
LOL fran - just read you 10:10 - hahaha
His family is spread out all over LI.We go there a lot.
and ren's grey one means she'd rather not say.
hi! shavua tov! a little toughie i see.
az won over ca
lol helen, thought you were ignoring my cheeky remark!!
hi melon! shalom!
not a bad grid, really, but a few strange words.
hahahaha fran!!!i'm female, i just like purple and it looks purple to me!
shalom back at ya! :)
stid - did nothing with the shepherd - just am keeping them separated -as they usually are, but when they play together - it's always been great - i don't know what happened - one theory is maybe the pom scratched the shepherd's eye & she just reacted in self-protection - i don't know
i got halfway in 10 minutes 25 t go just now
I am supposed to be resting my eyes... *sigh* the pull of the conversations, you know.
I grew up in Suffolk County, Min -- but have friends all over the Island myself
hiya melon, hi gw
fran - not ignoring you, just in the slow group today :)
hi HK, it was nice to have a day without news. i've been pretty stressed lately.
yes, we make sure the little mean dog (not that your pom is mean) has a way out, because once or twice she has corned the shepherd and he has defended himself very effectively. Usually, she just sulks in the bedroom.
good for you mel!
For once today was a little grid that was NOT a hard obscure one -- it only took me about 45 mins this am and that was with the kids distracting me
His mom lives in Carle Place, bue he grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma. His dad lives in Westbury. His brother is in Holtsville. His sister is in Huntington. His cousin lives in Greenlawn. Are any of these places familiar?
stid - eyes?
okay, i am really really going outside for a bit. I MUST go help make dessert... later all, or tomorrow. :-)
Hello helenkeller! How are you doing? Welcome back!
Min -- I know all those areas and have lived in or next to several of them
Goodbye Krista! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log!
stid - the weird thing is that this happened right in front of me, on a king sized bed - happened so fast - but it seemed like eternity as i pried the shepherd's mouth open, thankfully our rescue mutt decided to join in & he distracted her, but she just would not let go of the pom :(((
my eyes get tired after a few hours of babbling and internet work, melon... can't understand it, but I think it has something to do with aging. ;-) *disappears over the horizon*
anyone have a clue for the oa?
hiya minver!
what happened to feather's kitty?
{{{Helen}}} that is so scary. Good thing you were there. Hope it doesn't happen again.
Hi helen
kwa -pl of the desert haven
oa5/10 -- plural of desert rest stops
ah! ty
ty very much stid - i know you know how us dog people hurt when our dogs hurt :)
Hi melonhead!How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
oh helen, just read about the sheperd trying to eat the pom, that is scary!!
brb -- Seb just woke up
hey gw - i read what you wrote about your speed babbling, lol, rockin!
watch the next one be 298!
yeah fran - it's been a stressful week, the pom stays under my bed most of the time now, very difficult to coax her out
you are probablly righ fran....and i have to work again tomorrow.....arggghhh
fran - go wash your mouth our with soap, NOW!
stid, i was busy w/the grid - yes i get "computer eyes" - moreso since turning 50. afterall, didn't our moms tell us , "don't sit close to the TV, it's bad for your eyes!"? now look what we do with our time....
blug, glurb, glub
ren - tomorrow is sunday, the day of rest - i think it's the law :)
hi minver, been fine. tomatoes & cukes in the garden - well, now on our plates - yum!
LOL melon - oh, if my mom could see me now - no, on second thought, she'd have to look up from her own computer, lol
yum melon!
helen...i wish! of course, i'll work from home...so i can pop on and out!
a clue for the ga 5/14?
actually i'm going thru lickety's cluew alfabetically - making some good guesses. 18 to go.
LOL fran - 298 sounds soooooo big!
HEEHEE, HK!
kwamama, not solids or liquids
may i please have a clue for oa5/10?
of course!! ty
rpc, plural of desert rest stop
yw kwamama
oa 5/10 deset rest stops.
Yippee! I finished :) My 2nd time ever. I like these tiny grids
i have a really, really cool icon picked out for optical illusion - you guys will have to check out the web site - it's awesome, but i don't want to change yet - but check it out when i do!
yay kwamama!!!!!
pyros for kwamama
wtg kwamama!!!!!!!
i picked mine mainly because of the colors in it.
Thanks, and good night
Speaking of "computer eyes", I aksed before if there were studies on deteriorating eyes sight of babblers and nonbabblers and what the statistics might be.
let me guess helen...if you squint at it alan's face appears??
i will be back in a bit - gotta try to give this puppy her antibiotics - first gotta get her out from under the bed - wish me luck
tyvm!!
Congratulations Kwamama on fireworks!Good for you
taDah Kwa!
LOL fran - that's funny! hadn't even thought of that
Goodbye Kwamama! I will see you tomorrow in the log
min, my eyesight has stayed the same for over 8 years despite being on the computer most of the day for several of those years.
good luck helen!!
of course my eyesight is very bad to begin with.
Well, I think I pulled a Babble marathon today. I have been here since 1:00 w/just short bathroom breaks.
wow min!!
As Gunface kindly told me before, I need to get a life!
az 11 cal 3
back -- re:computer eyes -- antireflective coating on your eyewear helps reduce eye fatigue significantly - before I got it my eyes would wipe out on me adter about 2 hours -- now I can go all night w/minimal issues
oa,oe?
min - there are probably published studies. my opthamalogist suggested i take a vitamin called vision formula and a yoga exercise to relieve eye strain
i have 0 of 4
i need halp please
cpt, oa5/10 is plural of desert rest stop
actullay - i don;t take the yoga exercise, i use it to make my eyes feel better.
lol ren!
Which is what made me wonder about the eye sight of Babblers versus nonbabblers because my eyes are very tired now! I have bad eye sight to begin w/too.
ah min...life is what you enjoy!
actually, my glasses have that anti-glare stuff on them, maybe that has helped.
brb
still no luck
hey chj!
it took me almost two weeks to recognise the difference in my computer habits, Fran
some home runs in that game1
oa5/10 is oa plus snake letter, plus vowel, plus snake letter. Does that make it easier for you cptstabbin?
i just got that one
just before u typres that
How many do you have left to finish? I'm here to clue.
How do u play this game?
Hi cassandra_sava! How are you? Welcome to Babble!
im great thanks and u?
14 man
so how do u play this?
Cassandra, just go to "All You Need to Know" to find out the rules of the game. You have to find words in the grid that are at least four letters and type them
ic thanku
The tiles have to be connected. There are 54 words in the grid. It is like Scrabble if you know that game.
thanks
You can ask us for clues. Then we can give you clues to help you find words that are located in the puzzle.
Important warning- this game is extremely addicting
any clues for si5/14 and se5/10?
brb - diaper change time :\
ren...did you see the kid from az who looked just like lupus from bad news bears...with the long platinum hair?
hahha im hooked already
se *** - uses needle and three
nrkii..hi...is that a flag or an optical illusion..or both?
need the other se 4/6 & se 4/8
just a flag
Hello nrkii! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
se** 4/6 rhymes with clothes***
thunk! of course! "i knew i shoulda turned left..."
4/8 is the needle and thread thing
opera girl...hi melon
wheeeeeeeeeeeee! fireworks!
yay mel
hi, chj
YAY for Melon!!
pyros for melon!!!
nrk, vet thinks the cat has an embolism.
Renfield,thank you for the offer but exercise and my name in the same sentence is like an oxymoron! I do not even walk parking lots! I keep driving until I find the closest spot!My parents do Yoga though and like it a lot though. I really do not like to excercise at all!
yay melon!!!!
bye for a while - time to pay ateention to my offspring!
I like your motto Melon!
oh no, fran
later melon!
she's there overnight.
Minveryork, i can find the si one, i have looked on the internet but i still can't find it! and for the se one, i don't really know that language very well!!
Bye melonheadjujube!I'll see you tomorrow in the log!
the cat, feather is back home now.
Bye melon
oh, okay, because I misunderstood and thought feather was there overnight
was thinking, strange animal hospital
se 5/10 is se 4/4 with an e at the end of it RPC18.
lol
TYVM!!
chj, artist is Victor Vasarely.
si 5/14 - The surrounding and blockading of a city, town, or fortress by an army attempting to capture it
melon..if you like UPwords, you would have loved one of the puzzles last week from the ny Times...the theme involved phrases with the word UP...in each instance, the answer was upside down and the word UP appeared in a single square...so, eg, "on the UP and UP" was upside down
Ok, I really should go to bed -- or at least get off the computer -- I didn't road trip today because I was tired and the only way to fix that is to get some sleep
i'll add it to my profile
night woulf!
i thought so..had a roommate long time ago who was nuts about vasarely
night wolfie!!
Although I am first gonna get my geek on by watching the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon on Disney channel :D
Goodbye GreyWoulf!I will see you tomorrow in the log
{{**Hugs for all**}} TTFN
Fran, my poor mom...
im running on fumes tonight..hope i can make it to the flip
she's using bj's list to help her
and I never told her that sometimes the lists might have a mistake!
so she's been pulling her hair out trying to find the WI words
go to sleep chj....it will be here tomorrow....:-D
oh - it is tomorrow for you!
chj, caffeine will make you stronger
oh no nrk! is she okay now!
good night those who are heading out. hi nrk!
i havent missed a flip in several weeks..i have a streak going
yep, I straightened it out for her, LOL
hi stid!
YAY Melon!
good thing you chose tonight to call her!
but I remember the only time I found a mistake on lickety's list, and how hard a time I had believing the list was wrong
ok - but no streaking!....(hides eyes)
I kept typing and typing
and im going double or nothing on the cheetos
ok...fran said 298
if i go streaking i wont beat anybody up
*streaks past renfield, her nearly naked head bobbing along...*
what do you say
haha stid...i peeked!
*giggle* I told my mother I had cut my hair when I finally got hold of her this evening, and she sounded really grumpy.
guessing how many words ?
i think that time i had gone to the list much later and had the corrected version nrk. but yeah, i can imagine.
123
oh nrk! that is just too silly (though I did something similar too, once)
212
i should never have told that story! (blush)
i said 298 and helen made me wash my mouth out with soap!
i could be cruel and say 124
but ill say 285
ok frna 298, nrkii 212, ren 123...and chj 285
"fran...sorry girl!
How about tomorrow's date 813?
I think tomorrow will be a 20-word list, not one of them ever used except in obscure specialities like pediatric podiatry... and not one fewer than 6 letters long.
ren, I LOVE that icon!!!
i only said 298 because i can't use the three on my keyboard, i was going to say three hundred.
my lips are sealed ren
i want to know which brand of soap you used fran.
lol stid!!
thanks nrkii!
now the 3 is bad in addition to the e?
oh fran, no 3 either?
you gogo you
it went out at the same time chj, look at where it is.
I thought you were getting a new keyboard sweetie?
ren, ivory
fran do you want your count changed to 300?
no, i'll stay with 298
Fran -- have you checked for missing peanut butter and bread crumbs?
bleck.....ivory!
333 fran
or three three three
ooh, chj is taunting you fran
the serial port is blown, it didn't work and hubby hasn't had a chance to get a USB one, gigs every night.
Hi All! Just got home after work; and would like to finish the grid! BUT what a STRANGE conversation this is to read right now!?!?
i know nrk! i'll get back at him later!
Fran could say tri-0-0...
hi Nef! how many words do you need?'
Nef, fran has lost her E and 3 keys
more strange than usual nef?
nrk, that's a great illusion you picked also.
I know she lost her E key last night! Now her 3 is gone too?
Fran, have you ever read the book Misery, by Stephen King?
may i please have another clue for se4/6? not the on that means: in Acronym Finder. If that makes sence, i don't know what the word means it's just from the internet so sorry if it is wrong.
better than losing her mind or her mother
thanks
yes nrk, loved it!
MUCH stranger than usual! :D
remember how the keys on his typewriter kept going on the blink, so he had to write in the letters by hand... first the T's, then the N's and then the E's...
se 4/6 like the sa 4/6 (a type of palm tree)?
the irish guy who used to read the trivia questions at the local irish pub had a very thick accent and when he said "thirty three" it sounded like "dirty trees" so one night we named our team 33 dirty trees...cruel
rpc, one se4/6 sounds like gaming system, but change the last vowel
RPC, I can't help you by what you wrote, Sorry
se + don't stop
i have that one stid
nrk, it was so long ago, don't remember that! i just remember scaring myself and not being able to go to sleep after finishing it.
nrk..when you change icons you gotta tell me cause i gotta refresh or i wont see it
sorry chj
i scare myself....dan hicks and his hot licks
ooh, worth a reread fran, esp in your current situation :)
i guess cutting and pasting the e in is the equivalent of "manually" writing it in.
I have 16 words left to find
hey everyone! i'm back - operation pom-med was successful!!! whew!
