tents
oh dear, dunnit again!
I seem to be the only Brit in the chat log. Hope you like my new icon. I can actually see this from my window . The grid is a bit daunting today. I have things I should do!!!!!
love your icon, verna -- just what is it?
st 8/45
more st6/21
Its the country's most famous work of art. Done by Antony Gormley. Its has a wing span of 54m. It is right by the side of a major road so thousands of people get to see it daily.
st7/28
Are you near Durham Cathedral?
Its called the Angel of the North. It being in the north of England.
amazing, verna
i have two st7/28's, both follow the previous 5/10.
Yes I am very near to Durham Cathedral.
there's two of them, Jilli
Ah! The Venerable Bede!
taxa
haven't found the 2nd st7/28, or the 8. I'm no good at long words.
sorry -- sorry -- sorry
You obviously know a bit about Durham. Do you live around that area or have you travelled there.
erda - glad -- glad -- glad
No, I travelled there in 1987 actually. We stayed in the dorms in the University. I remember it as a very beatiful town. I live in Canada.
lol Jilli
i have 2 st 28s - don't see how either would lead to an 8 letter word
200
We have Canadian friends who live in Etobicoke Toronto and we took them Durham when they stayed with us. Like you they loved it.
taDah, roc!
Really, I live in Etobicoke!
roc - how do you do it?????
This is getting spookie. Their area code is M8V 1X8.
We normally holiday with them every year but had a break this year for the first time in 8 years.
played lots of tangleword over the past decade
got that st8!
hats off to roc the Great!
cane
dang
I'm M9B 6A9
what was your name in Tangleword, Roc?
They are probably nearby.
clubber / xiao_zheng / rocdragon
I used to play as Erda and as Trazom
Trazom = Mozart backwards
My friend Donna was a school teacher and has taught at quite a few schools in the area. She is now retired. They have 2 American retrievers which take up quite a bit of their time.
and what does xiao_zheng mean?
got the an 9
What school?
American retrievers???? Chesapeake Bay retrievers? (I've been a dog show person)
it's what the teacher called me in chinese class. "little zheng"
very late fliparooni ! hello everyone !
chinese class? Are you Chimese?
*Chinese
american-born chinese
I thought you might ask me that, unfortunately I can't remember her last school, but the next time I speak to her I'll find out.
RocDragon is a translation of my chinese birth-name
What a small world, eh?
great that you keep in touch with the language, roc
Sorry I only have a few words (see my profile)
It s certainly is, if you do live close by the chances are I have walked her dogs by your house as I walked the dogs for miles all around the that area.
There is a very large park near my house; perhaps she walks there.
ok i'm stuck. going to lickety's..
She lives off Royal York rd. There is a park close to her beside a tennis courts and the park has a baseball area.
you're giving me a well-deserved inferiority complex, wikth my 40 words found!
By the school on the hill?
I should have said Royal York road and Lakeshore.
Oh, down there. I am up at the other end, near Eglinton, but I do know that area fairly well.
verna and godthaab, this is amazing. I lived in Toronto eons ago and know a bit about the area you're talking about.
Where did you live?
In Leaside
Nice area of town!
Had friends in Etobicoke
I guess the whole world knows someone in Etobicoke!
If we keep this up we might turn out to be related!!!
Our part of Leaside was little boxes on the hillside, cheap post-WW2 housing, right by a railroad line - not fancy but convenient!
That's funny!
it's not just me the site being nutty - is it?
We paid $10K in 1948 and heard much later (60s)that this tiny house had sold for $300K!
Housing prices in TO are ridiculous, although I hear it is even worse out in Vancouver. I think real estate is the most expensive in Canada. That house is probably worth 500-600 now
godtaab I think I know the park you mention. Does it have a small passenger train running through it and a small collection of caged animals???
absolutely nuts!
No, you are thinking of High Park, the biggest park in the city. The place I was referring to was a school on the Kingsway whick is one block west of Royal York, north of Dundas.
halfway! just one 8 & one 9 - laila tov, everyone!
congrats melon
sleep tight, melon, and congrats on your mediocrity <g>
Ok. Got you. Its been very nice talking to you, and hope we will catch up again sometime. I going to have some breakfast now and maybe try the grid later.
:D
Full English breakfast, Verna???
Bye.
No just tea tea and toast. Got to wacth the figure you know.
roc, haven't you finished YET???? LOL
Marmalade, verna?
still 87 left
and I only have 261 left
morning all
Well ok could probably stretch to marmalade.
lol jilli
hi mva
Hi MVA!
enjoy, verna!
Thanks jillibus. Must say I like your icon. I'm a big cat person.
hi all!
hi kierlex
i love cats but my 14 yr old moggie has started waking me up 3/4 times a night!
Morning MVA
morning jfb, are you packed yet?
ok time to stop. 75 left.. night all.
thx, verna - prrrrrr
Nite, rocdragon
Not packed - time for that later! Are you?
no, later will do for me too!
MVA, my 17-year-old does that too - really yells loudly! She can no longer jump up on the bed but wants an ear-and- neck-rub before settling down beside it
where are MVA and JFB going?
my cats been worse since she's been to the vets!, she's taking it out on me!!
i'm off to cornwall for a long weekend
And JFB lives in cornwall...
and jfb is off to london at the sametime!
oh, so you're not meeting somewhere! What a pity! Have you met?
We share the same birthplace and parentage!!

Mornin' All...
hey odin
Hey Beebee
i've been on about 30 mins and have a mere 78 words- this is going to be a long grid esp. since it won't accept my made-up words ;)
I see what you mean. Some many to find and I'm afraid my brain is mush. I need caffeine!
:)
I'm having the same problem...there are a lot of phantom words in this puzzle and you never know if you can ____ier a word
You are right pinecone
Morning everyone. There are a host of phantom words today, like relax.
Mornin' Hydra
Hi Odin. Did you finish yesterday? I didn't cos I couldn't get back on the grid.
No Hydra...I left for work with good intentions of returning but I was delayed last night and never made it back.
I grid was weird yesterday mornin' for me.
hey pine and hydra
I had to work till midnight to make up for my Babbling.
Yo beebee
I told you the other day it wouldn't work for me. I would be sneaking on every few minutes until I had it done. I woek on a lap top in my car but can't get to this site...lucky for me and even luckier for the boss!
What do you do, Odin?
Government relations and business development in the ambulance industry.
hydra- magnolia, gardenia or water lily
Wow. Really worthwhile job, Odin. Beebee, it's a Clematis Montana.
It keeps me busy. Always growing unfortunately.
oh- not exactly sure what that is, but it looks very peaceful and like it would smell yummy
Thanks, beebee. My boyfriend has it in his garden to I took a photo. Bout time I changed my icon, but I like it.
Morning - big grid today- what's it like?
matty- it's kind of trying
Hi matty. I got 93 in half an hour and now I'm stuck, so a bit awkward, I'd say.
Mornin' Matty
Anyone have the 11?
What does it start with? Haven't looked at the lists yet.
I haven't looked yet either
Well obviously I haven't got it or I'd be boasting!
Mee too!
I try not to look at the lists....it is better for me to stumble around on my own and see what damage I can do first!
it's an in in 5/10 + st6/18
Thanks Kateq
Like your SOH, Odin. And thanks, Kateq. Congrats on getting it.
ty
Got it. Wheeee!
wtg hydra
An 11? Sigh.
Kim - you here?
What's today's theme?
matty- Unexplained Phenomena
I'll stick with my icon, then. Cats and dragons both defy explanation!
matty- :)
Oh dear, another BIG one, I don't think I am in the mood for this. But I thought I would show off my icon.
Mornin'g ExWren
Still strugginging with the 11. Hi Wren!
in 5/10 + st6/18
kateq gave great clue at 3.35am
Yes she did...she bailed me out
well, must go and do some work. See you all later and happy babbling.
Later Hydra...enjoyed talking this mornin'
Morning all. Whether or not I do today's grid on line depends on whether we get the thunderstorms the weather lady 'promised' today. Big grid, busy day... hope to be back later.
Morning all. What a nice grid for my last babble day before leaving for Germany!
spritey? cos Anakin is copyright George Lucas *SIGH*
*Sighs too* What happened to the freedom of the arts? How can one copyright work from somebody else... *kicks George Lucas*
I know! its madness!
You think God copyrighted all pictures of Jesus?
O.O that's a thought!
Thanks kateq for the 11. I've just come back and scrolled back through the chat. Though I wasn't going to come back but the computer must have a magnetic field around it!
JFB: that is a well proven fact!
I can't find the proper st6 for the 11. I'm assuming the in5 is the normal one.
I'm fighting the magnetic field now...I HAVE to go to work...I will however be forced back without a doubt before the day ends.
there are 2 normal in5s matty
I'm supposed to be cleaning up house, sorting sleeping arrangements for house sitters and packing to go away and what am I doing? You guessed!
Same here, JFB. I have to pack for the holidays in Germany, we leave tomorrow. But I am not packing. Not yet. Almost... only 252 words to go.
By normal, I meant the one that often is the start of longer wrods...
And me! I am taking my husband to Rome as a suprise for his birthday, and I havent done a thing yet!
so did I ;)
Welcome to the other side, spanner ;)
I've only 182 to go so I might reach the suitcase before you sprite. I doubt it though as I've slowed up. Have a great time.
hi sprite, just saw your comment re 252 more words, how many are there!!
311, Beast!
wow thats huge
i would have to be up all night
Do we all live on the planets Babble and Ironsuduko?
i have 31 at the moment
That's the first 10 percent already, Beast. We do, spanner... at least some of us.
No I'm only on planet Babble - no good with numbers but love words.
nrkii got me hooked on quotepuzzler as well...
i am yet to try iron soduko, am too scared as got addicted to regular sudoku
Oooh - the hairnosed dolphin is here. I only have one in5 - struggling to find the other, because I'm looking for the 11.
Im not nationalised yet! Not good enough for either, but enjoying the visits!
No I mustn't ask about that one. I really mustnn't but........?
I love that dolphin word. It is so dolphinlike, somehow. Such a light word that I see it jumping out of the waves right away.
yes :) its a lovely word
I'm really struggling here with the 11...
Me too, matty, I think I don't have the right in5 yet either.
Morning everyone! Has the site been OK this morning? I just about gave up on Babble permanently yesterday afternoon - and for the first time in nearly three months I din't finish the grid.
Hey Sue - how's you! Big grid today.
The site seems to be back to normal, Sue. *keeps fingers crossed*
Struggling a little, Matty. It is a big grid. Did we ever find out what was the problem yesterday, Sprite?
woot! got the 11!
Not me, Sue! I believe drG fixed it.
Well, so long as it's fixed. Well done Ata!
Got it too! Did have the right in5, just not the right St6. Think stress for the last part, matty.
its a dumbass word
Thanks Sprite - that was it! Fab thanks.
It is a dumbass word.
yw :)
And I agree. A stupidhead word, to quote Griffs. God, I really hope she is alright, haven't seen her online for ages.
This is the first grid I've seen that uses every letter in the grid as a first letter.
Even the X. I never can think of words starting X. Except some chemical ones.
good morning everybody:)
Gawd - I've no idea what the X could be.
Morning Jean!
Hi jean :)
nor me matty!
Morning Jean
x=Of, characterized by, or adapted to an extremely dry habitat
Thanks Kate!
My first greyed out letter.
Oh dear, we had that one before. I forgot again!
Wow--a large grid today!
yw
Hi, all
Hi Pam
I have still resisted the grid so far (?), but I felt it my duty to find the '11'
morning pam
WTG ExWren! We all succumb to the lure of babble (right Ata?), lol.
utterly ;)
OK, had to go for the 11--yep, stupidhead indeed!
Thats it, Im off, have to pack, blah, blah, blah. Have a great time in Germany, meet you on this planet again. Take care all.
take care, spanner!
have fun!
And yet another word with no definition!
Hate that, JFB! I then google them "to death"
Wht part of massachusetts are you from Pam? My sister used to live in a tiny place called Shirley but has moved to NH now.
Shirley is nice! I am near Boston. And, I work in Newton
What's the theme? Atalante and JFB, you haveintersting icons...
Today, i kind of wish hieronymous bosch was the theme
We've only been over once - loved it. We were there in the fall of 2000.
pam: for words without def try http://www.infoplease.com/
Coool, sprite, thanks! I really spend a heck of a time trying to suss out any word--I will have to book mark that link!
I have it bookmarked as well. I just can't stand it finding a word and not knowing the meaning.
My icon is the Cornish crest - I don't know what today's theme is.
With you there, sprite
Well, you have one on me, JFB, I've never crossed the Pond
ermmmm I tend to continually have Anakin unless a theme comes up of particular interest :P
Now I really must go and put afew things in a suitcase!
gotcha, altalante and jfb... just that they (icons) seemed somehow connected....
See you late, JFB
oh, another biggie... morning all :)
hi sherb :)
hi, sherb
Hi all!
hi, mrp!
hi mrp :)
Found a very sad Te9/54 (compound)
Ha mrP (hug)
well clued sprite... thanks :)
wow, sprite, you said that and all I had to do was look at the grid... tis sad indeed!
Nice to see you all! **hugs to you too**! thanks for the clue!
phantom--exultant
Argh, yes pam! Keep seeing that one too.
Did you hear about the fish that went deaf?
Ohoh...
Huh?
I think I've got the first half of the nine, but not the second half.
OldRottenHat is our muse...
maddison played earlier, she got 60 odd words all on her own!! she was so happy!
He had to buy a herring-aid.
matty: when you go out on a date with your best clothes on, and the guys is a jerk, you might end up with some 9s on your blouse ;)
HAHAHA! love it!
Hehehe, OldHat
*groans* :)
Got it, thanks Sprite! LOL
I want to try to get eight more words before going to the list...
have you got the fish sauce??
ooops, lost track of time... see you all later!
Fish sauce?
later pam :)
do you have the ta6 that you put on fish?? has lovely anchovie and stuff in it!! :)
Ooh - you mean the white condiment, that doesn't actually contain the ingredient it's named after :D
yes!! add some frozen water cube to it, minus the last letter !!
Hello everyone
and you get some more of the same non descriptive stuff!!
Thanks Pres! Hi Becca.
Hi Becca
Hi Becca
Huge grid today - I don't think I'll be finishing today
Huge, but for the most part easy, Becca.
morning Becca :)
have you got all the st8's?? more st6/21 and more st6/18??
Down to 78 and not yet really slowing down.
Hi Sherb - your icon is great today
Is that the theme?
re8/40 and re9/54 people who are not working anymore and enjoying their old age
ends with a little picnic insect
thanks Becca :) ...theme is unexplained phenomena... why have one crop circle when you can have dozens...
Again - thanks Pres! How about the ac8?
acris
Sorry!
There was one near our house recently - never seen one near us before
Ac8 = Ac5/12 with latin ending.
sure! ac + metal + radio active!
Done! At last! Any clues before I go?
Great job, Kateq!
yay Kate!!
Fantastic Kate!
Hmmm...radioactive? There's no H for hot... LOL
ac8 can also be described as A radioactive element found in uranium ores
Got it - thanks!
Pres, great clues.
no prob!!
Have a great day everyone!!
acinier
Sorry!
the al8 contains al****** foil, but change the last letters
Good morning everyone! There's a tr7 with the same ending as the ac
could you put actual words in here
British spelling or American?
oh matty, you are precious tonight!! we need words darling heart!!
Sorry Phand!
Loose two letters of that one from matty and you got one, phand :)
I need the American!
sallright
Hello Eva!! nice to see you :)
Hi Eva
I want 7 more words before I go to the list
oh the in11 is a doozie!!
in5/10 + st6/18 to all heave ho!! together!
mrp-the al8, I have the al4/6 which is the root, and an al6/24 from that, but don't get the 8
eva, add the frozen cube to the end, minus the last letter
Thanks mrp!
no problem!
Thanks MrP - I got those too, and made it to 100!
After that one there comes a not-related An9/66. An + vowel + important female part that babble doesn't count valid + that broken frozen cube.
woohoo!!
stria
Ooh, great clue Sprite!
oh crap! sorry!
BTW Sprite, I also tried the important female part!
Oh, nice combo: tiny vehicle(s) Mi7/36-8/50.
I know, we keep trying, Becca, and babble stays stubbornly stupid!
an+vowel+chocolate+ic? interesting word!
LOL Ata! But babble does recognize chocolate, at least.
Hello Atalante!
which a are you starting with?
hi all!
the one in the middle column, Eva.
hi mrp!
Hi Fran!
Hey Fran

So many phantoms today - must be related to the unexplained phenomena
Morning all
Hi Fmitch
Hey FMitch!!
Hey Fi.
Fran - they're amazing, but an in-flight sick bag is necessary!
morning FMItch :)
phantom-antarctic
Greetings :) Another rather , er, large one today!
thanks becca, i'll remember that if i ever go.
hi fmitch!
Hi FMitch :)
Lovely to see everyoneon this rather thundery/monsooney day
Whereabouts are you FMitch - feels like spring here in Yorkshire
i'm loving all the unexplained phenomena, sherb and becca, great icons!
My husband's at the cricket. It's rainging.
It's cloudy, but dry and quiet here in Holland. But either Jac is very silent today, or the thunderstorms she was expecting are on her now.
I'm in Berkshire. Where in Yorkshire Becca?
Thanks Fran - rather gruesome, don't you think?!
time for a walk and to check the melons. Never grew then before and am like a kid, checking them 3 times a day to see whether they are ripe yet.
Becca's icon is a complete story in a picture... someone just needs to write it...
FMitch I'm in Sheffield at the moment - I work here week days, then home to Stafford
yes becca, the untouched foot is a great touch.
Hi and bye Eva
bye eva!
later Eva :)
Bye Eva
Becca, I have some family roots in Middlesborough
Bye Eva
woot! 100 words!
Yeah phand!
WTG Phand

FMitch, I have family roots all over the place - we're like brambles!
ac7?

well, well...
lol sherb you should know how bad my typing is by now, lucky I didn't put 3 in there :)
Please?
ac + li5/10 but change the last letter to c
A + Cl6/24
I will say it again!! I hate C's!!!!!!! arrgghhhh!
need the li 5 & the cl 6...

Becca, we are probably inspired by the art of Ta6/18 and perhaps Ti4/4.
Bye Becca - but what on earth is your logo - not you I hope !
As opposed to inertia, I agree, matty.
Good day
Blimey - 311 today eh!

i know amanda, i try that word every time! don't know why it's not a word.
ai5/10 - will I need a fish?
only if you already have the ai4/4
unless there are two ai5/10's, no you won't need a fish. It's a babblet, generally occuring in singular form
Wrong ai 5/10 - I need the first.
what about a clothes dryer or ai***
Pass the fish, please!
Thanks

nite Fran!
hello wolvie - v. cute !
Hi all
site seems to be behaving today, TG
Hi Dianne
I think that's a phenomenon too, Wolvie. I guess if you can buy your own spotlight...
Morning, all! Well, any other time I'd be freakin' over such a huge puzzle but since I fractured my ankle and they put a big old cast on it yesterday and I'm on crutches and can't do ANYTHING, this is GREAT!!
amen, amanda
Good morning, Une - sorry to hear about the ankle
do't be too sure about that - it was not good when I started an hour ago wolvie
thanks, wolvie
Oh poor Uni, how did you do that?
Oh dear, Une! How'd you manage that?
shhhh - lynx - I didn't get to finish yesterday's with all of the down time. :-(
Fell in my own garage like an idiot!
I'm puzzled (duh)......I'm looking for a la5/10 that comes before the stuff you tat - how can that be? Any help?
hello Une - 'every cloud has a silver lining?' but I don't envy you
Are you sure it wasn't dancing in those gold stilettos Une?
Hah! LOL!
haven't gotten to the l's yet - just signed on. sorry
Fellow babblers FIY - just had an email from Haz who has had PC probs all week and is off on hols this w/e so we won't see her back on line until the beginning of September.
thanks, FM
oh, no--we'll miss her!
Dianne - go with a double vowel for the L word
lyn - thank you so much.
Oh no - Babble with out haz?
She is so frustrated, no babble no email - she was at the local library using their PC to email me.
I know the feeling--was doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago--was able to fix the problem via a 90 minute phone call with a Dell tech in India!
Don't you just love those outsource helpdesk options Une? At least you were able to get sorted though.
It was pretty crazy but I was just so ecstatic when I had my email and web access back!
isn't is amazing how dependent we are on computers now?
I have to change this icon - makes me ill. :-0
what's the theme? bimbos?
phantom word: extract
I can't imagine being w/o my PC/email/internet - I would have serious issues including not being able to work.
LOL - unexplained phenoms, une - this should be better
good morning everyone......une hope you heal quickly, a long grid to keep you busy
must be off for a bit - need to take my Mom to get her driver's license - hope the line isn't huge! bbl
thanks, Annie :-)

Hi Miya! Long time no see!
{{{Miyavi}}} Hi

lol! no - early glam rock pre-bowie
have you heard of marc bolan, miya?
dead rock star guy
ahhh, unfortunately the only glam-rock I'm really familiar with is Daigo Stardust and the unforgettable sheeny-shiny spandex.
Atalante, my world is full of dead rock star guys XD hide for one, and of course it was the anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death a few weeks or so ago, but...Marc Bolan, nope >.>;

Me too Cath
unexplained phenomena

I'm sticking with the Meevs, because...I'm amused by my gif. deal with it XD or "dil wis it", as he would say. Shut up, brain.
span...unexplained meat?
there are 6 fr words from the corner
unexplained phenomena? looks like I'll have to change the picture to Kyo, then XD
i question how spam came to be in existence
amanda- i'll let you know if i find any weird fr's. so far i've found normal ones!
does Anakin count as an unexplained phenomenon?
parts of different animals (pigs nose, hoofs, etc.) that people don't eat in a cut of meat are in spam bologna, weiners, etc!
spam is no longer a mystery!
thx faerie
thx faerie
sure, why not atalante? oh thank you cathyar, i have been enlightened :)
lol...guess they had to do something with all those extra parts abe ;)
I've got one strange one - misspelled 'throw oneself into the fr**' or 'fr**ed ends of yarn'
and it has quite the following too!
any excuse to keep my anakin pic!
yw
thanks amanda!
Ciocia how are you doing with the grid? I'm loosing my mind
and I think 'frexin' should be a word - "What are those frexin' f-words?!?!"
there are f words? lol
Ata 7 fi's and 6 fr's
*performs my icon*
ahahaaaa...took me long enough but I finally selected a picture out of my millions. I had to fight hard not to get one with Kyo wearing a bucket on his head XD
any help with the fr 7/56? it is driving me crazy
that would be one of the ones I'm missing, inge
wow. there's just a few t words today
Hullo Everyone

Can anyone clue the ar6/18 between the operatic solo and the clever person (or what might describe a museum)
matty - like a knight, start with a

Not me, though.
Hello everyone...has anyone else had a problem with their screen? I was playing a bit ago, had 170 words, just signed back in and now its only show 75 words. Ack!
me either Matty
there's an e-word in the grid for the knight, change it to an a-word
Is there? An e word for night?
K-night, like Lancelot
try refreshing snark
That's what I meant.
I've been trying, but no success.
it's a kind of knight, not a synonym for it
maybe reboot? babble does steal words, but usually not so many
Got it - thanks!
I guess I'll have to - thanks Mab.
no prob
how come we can have a person who looks at you for a long time but not the plural st6/18
'cause there's only one s?

No I didn't get to finish
yea-phan
hey Faerie, I'm in the grid today!!!
cu ph
what happend at the Dr?

matty- their are 2 5/12's that could be horse boxes do you have both
morning. BTW
morning klaurel
matty- i don't know your name- so, i'm not sure which other you are talking about
you don't mean the plural buggy, do you matty?
Angel thanks I didn't have YOU yet LOL
My name is short for Katherine...
Actually, it's short for Katherina, but that's another story.
matty- add an vowel to the end of your horse box
the woman at the front desk would not let me see the doctor b/c I had no referral. She wouldn't call my Dr to get a referral, and would not let Jay use the phone to call for it. We had to drive all the way back to my doctor's office, talk to the nurse there about the referral (and she couldn't figure out why the first woman hadn't just called. She was very rude. I made a verbal complaint to the doctor about it.
Someone who drive a horse box I have, and I have blanche, and I have kinda my name...I'm missing the ca5/12 after the ca7/32
matty-or an s- if it's neither of those let me know
plural of the horst box matty
My goodness sounds like you really did have an adventure. Good for you for filing a complaint
I'm an idiot. I had it all along. But hadn't entered it in lickerty.
I was so mad!
rude receptionists are such a pain!
matty- i know the feeling :)
Angel - sounds almost like California health "care"
I'm always having problems with Dr's receptionists. I think they're worse here in England (apologies to any Doctor's receptionists here)
would have taken less than five minutes over the phone....but we had to drive for an hour to get it done and get back to see the doctor.
Is this a good grid to dive into? ** sticks toe in grid to test **
that is just crazy. Sorry you had such a crappy doctor day.
gwen- don't do it unless you have a few hours and don't mind getting an ulcer(phantom)
I ended up helping my Mom can tomatoes yesterday. 25qts. of tomato juice and 20qts of whole tomatoes
will be doing tomato juice soon too
oh, well, she isn't going to be happy when the supervisor and the doctor gets done wirh hwe.
*her
Ciocia - there is nothing like your own tomatoes
angel- just start calling her up all the time with silly ?'s and get your friends to help- high school acting yes, but it's fun
Angel - that is for certain LOL
Hausmeister-Sydrom - what I like to call it here. People who like to make themselves important because their jobs are so unimportant
we make homemade spaghetti sauce with the juice. Yum. Tastes much better than store bought.
That's the Cs done, and over halfway through - 161 words found. 150 yet to find!
Thanks for the advice, beebee. I decided I DO have time and deserve a break -- I've been playing nurse all week. (Hubby had triple bypass last Tuesday, and came home Saturday)
ROFL Ciocia excellent idea
idiot woman told me 8 times: "You don't have a referral. you can't see the doctor, and it's not my job to get a referral for you."
how rude!
yea gwen- jump in misery loves company ;)
*splash*
she should be fired.
people like that should not work in a field where they have to help people
angel- u must be very nice- cause i would have had to inform her it would be her job to get my foot out of her a$$
I've been a patient of his for three years. she's been there for a year..
There are 3 ar6's, and I'm blessed if I can find he second one (ar6/30)

I restrained myself pretty severely.
Thank you dear friends. I must remember to read upwards.
faerie, are you still here?
good morning everyone
I already have that one cauzneffct.
Yep
morning Wyrd
and it would be really nice if you people would come help me with my garage sale this weekend
angel- good for you, i'm not capable of restraint and that's why no one wants to go anywhere with me.
So I finally give up and go to the list, and I can't get the very first two words - ac5/12 and 7/36
oh-oh, has it slowed suddenly and again?
gm wyrd
news, Faerie! my daughter had her dr appt yesterday. She's 13 weeks now, and it's a girl; due on February 21, exactly one week on either side of my birthday and Dylan's.
hi faerie, Juday
Wyrd - Oregon is a bit far for me but it sounds like fun :)
Is this going slowly for anyone else?
Is this going slowly for anyone else?
OMG - Congratulations!!!!!!!
angel- good for you, i'm not capable of restraint and that's why no one wants to go anywhere with me.
Yep

That is so awesome. You will be spoiling a little girl now.
Yep.
she showed me the sonogram pictures. so tiny...
Hiya Munner
en5/12? Will I need a fish?
Yep - I do. Got it!
Gosh, I'm slow today.
Hi, everyone. Working on getting halfway. I'm the one who always wants a bigger puzzle..
have her email them to you and you can send them to me. How about that?
so you're the cause of this munner
Yep.
Hi Munner
Hi, abe. Love your Spam. It was a standby when we used to do a lot of camping. Fried Spam with a can of pineapple chunks. Yum Yum!?
i'm off to get the dog from the groomer- i'm sure when i return the babble fairy will have finished up the grid for me(hope- pray -hope) happy babbling and good luck y'all
the sounds kind of good Munner! My mom used to make it with eggs sometimes.
Ok, if anyone is interested, I finally figured out what my problem was with Licketey's.....my old words from yesterday remained in the boxes, even though the new letter/number pairs were there! so I was seeing stuff like....ar 5/10 = canso Almost blew my poor little blonde brain to pieces!
hi babblers
hi whitewitch!
finally my icon for yesterday's theme shows up...a bit too late
what is today's theme?
Hey White!
Good morning Munner. The Spam brings back memories of food parcels from the States during the second world war
Theme is "Unexplained Phenomena"
My favourite needlecase is almost there.
Afternoon all!
hi jacs!! rofl!
Hi jac!
Why am I finding the ca words SO DIFFICULT?
a clue for fi5/20 would be nice please
TO - I thought it fitted the theme quite well.:))
because this whole #@!!$%##! grid is difficult?
TO - I thought it fitted the theme quite well.:))
Hi Jac. Great icon.
Hi TO
Can't comment on the grid yet as I'm only just typing in words found on paper...
Hi Judy. Glad you like it.
anyone have the 11 or any of the nines?
ac 8/55 pls? so it will quit taunting me? ty
E's down - onto the Fs
What happens when a T-Rex bites you?
ac 8 is the alloy + t** tac toe
fi5/20 - I've heard of phy***, I think - genus, species...
ac8/55 - an element for thespians?
You get a dino-sore.
Hi Kim!
for ac8, tndaiy, take the word for performin and lop0 off the "g" , then add a "chemical" ending as in al**in***--Brits spelling
what alloy? all together now - GROAN at orh
LOL & groan, ORH.
alright, get the fish ready - I can't for the life of me find the an4/4, 5/10 in the middle
got it! amanda, that was a cute clue :)
what the soda cans are made of - use the first 6 letters
You mean, as in an** retentive???
My clues seem harder to work trhgrough than the word list itself. Sorry
the 8 has been conquered :) now for those other monsters....*sigh*
nope, not that one, Erda. After come closer
an + what many (mostly Brits) say upon leaving; then the Latin plural
Anyone have the ca5/12 and the ca6/21 between pl. of ca4/5 and ca term meaning love?
Oh thank you Erda - I thought I was going blind!
Oh--I think I have those, thanks
the diamond ones, hetty?
Looking at my wedding ring did it. Thanks Amandacath
hello hello!
yw
Hi Stidmama
Hey Stid
hi spam!
errrr abe!
{{{{{Stid}}}}
I am NOT happy about the number of words today...
{{{daisy}}}
it's a beast
but a beast that's almost half conquered here!
go daisy go!
morning Stid
hi stid
hello everyone! :-)
How are you doing today TO? I finally finished last night. Not so sure about today's grid.
i love your icon tndaisy :)
i have 130 to go...tha's a whole other grid!!!
what do the tile stats mean?
I have 202 left...
good for you TO. I still have 173!
I have 199 left and its time for me to go to work see everyone later
jagman -- tile stats tell you how many words from that particular tile there are -- and how many you have so far
later Faeriekae!
by faerie {{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
fr5/16?
See you faerie!
see ya faerie!
by faeirekae!
stidmama - thanks
jagman, if you haven't already, DO check out Angelsong's Resource page, link at bottom of the "Friends of Babble" below... she has pulled together the basic rules of the game, helpful hints, websites that are useful... :-)
cu faerie
matty - where boys are boys?
I'm SURE I tried that.
Thanks Amanda.
short for opposite of sororities
dear amanda, boys are boys in the living room, in the bathroom (only too true)< at the dining table, and in the car on the way to visit grandparents...
That's the Fs...onto the Is Are we on go-slow again?
Testing...
yes we are
now that you mention it, Stid - where AREN'T boys boys?
*giggle* I thought for a minute I broke babble with that silly comment of mine!
wow -- quiet all of a sudden...
. . *Too* quiet . . .
Am I the only one has trouble to change the icon?
Sometimes quiet is nice.
wasn't complaining, actually, just checking to be sure things weren't frozen!
Whitewitch - a fellow German, or in-Germany-liver. Where are you?
Maybe it's partly due to the large number of words that need to be found.
whitewitch, what icon are you trying to load? did you know that after loading a new icon you need to refresh the monitor to see it in the chat log?
phatom words: nectar itinerant hi tor
IN5/26?
gwen - i am german but living in St. Maarten
I have to wait for Stidmama to show me AGAIN! Icon changing and theme-finding are not easy for me.
hello all
Thanks for that info, whitewitch, but it was amandacath that was asking! :)
Stid, what's your email addy?
hello mother dear! glad to see you this morning!
i refreshed stid...didn't work...i wanted to upload an icon for today's theme
Hi TO ..
matty, in + repair
sorry gwen
oops, hit enter to soon. When do you want the elder grandchild for a few hours?
I am up and thinking about going to see friend in Yelm today. Join me?
Thanks Nrk!
whitewhich, you have an icon that looks like a very pale alien
Hi Nrkii
Oh. Oh well, I'm American and living in Germany. Guess that sorta balances out
okay, I have 148 left to go, and must get on the road to travel in about 40 minutes... hmmmm... this does not compute
Yes, I will have to change my clothes. just a sec, I will call you .
later everyone else!
hi nrk!
cu Stid
What's the stupid fr6/27?
Hi nrkii
I will take my 7 words and go.
bye stidmama
Yikes! 311 words - should I even start??
I'm really struggling with the i words. I'm now looking for the in7s and 8s after the in4/4 that isn't a dolphin...
matty - like someone who signs up for a contest (or goes through a door), start it with i
come on in pup. Join our misery.
MMMMMMMWWWWWWWWHAHAHAHAHA
Hm?
how can internet not be a word
at judy's invite to pup
gm chj
same was fest isn't, chj. We just have to live with it
*way
hey cj...hows the grid coming
Internet? Is that thing still around?
Hi everyone
enable was prob written in 1950
nobody wants to clue me on the fr6/27?
dreadful for me. I actually have work to do today! only have 151 words. :( How's it with you?
they never take internet, but they take it if you drop the last letter
in7,8 to stir up a riot perhaps
don't have it amanda
Good icon nrkii. ROFL
me either Amanda
OMG NRK!!! i was going to pick thasame icon!!!
Amandacath, it builds on the f/4/7 just before it; I monkey typed it. ( I think it's been in babble before.)
I've been waiting to use Joan for a whle now...
lol!
FR 6/27 builds on the FR4. It's a connecting fold of membrane. Add how some people say "no" to the FR4.
Whew! Finally - thanks Sue, that gave it to me!
I have all the words starting with the in5/10, and the ones before - it's the last four in words I'm looking for - probably starting with the in4/4
oh -- I am going to visit Mother's friend this morning, so up and at 'em -- but before I go, Mother pointed out that the story is getting long in BabAnon. I am going to split it into volumes and eventually move it onto it's own site so it doesn't use up so much of BA's bandwidth.
Anyway -- outta here for now, and back later. :-)
have fun Stid
bye stid
Byeeee.
cya stid
help with second tr 5 12 please
the two last in7/28s and the related 8/40s?

how are you doing on the grid
hey chj
nrkii = tr5/12, prefix for 3 then beginning of high card
Any clues please last ca6,21
thanks muse!
I have to leave for the library, but I'd love to finish the c's first and I have just one left--the second cl6/24

*leaps to the stage in a split, shouting into mic* Hello Babbleland!
yes she is chj... do you even have to ask
sorry verna don't have yet
hetty - change the middle letter of the other one. Like a part of the female anatomy (that isn'T accepted as a word)
whoooo hoooo fiz!
the last ca6/21, verna, is ca4 sing followed by the ending of ar***--the place where we wach football etc.
verna - feline + first part of our favorite word list
thanks anyway mymuseisme
and lat. pl
Aerial on a kitty?
good one, torgone!

Hi Fiz. Hope you didn't hurt yourself.
Thanks, amandacath. Verna I posted the Bonfire Night story on babanon for you
nice wren
I'd like to get to 200 before popping to the pub - any clues for the ir and it?
hi wren!

was trying to end with ate
Hetty thank you but I don't know anything about babanon Sorry
Thanks guys - that's the i words - Need 7 more (onto the Ls) then I'll have 200 and can go to the pub.
mattygroves, if it were me, I'd forget babble and go direct to the pub.
You're right - that would be the sensible option...but just 6 left for my 200...
morning all... how many total today?
looks like a big number?
311 walnutchen
thanks jacula... yeah. big puz today...
hello, te 7/28 after those who rip things up (or just before that)
Well, I have 186 words so far and only the 'n' in the top r/h corner greyed out!
more wet-eyed?
jac, I haven't found either of those two words!
been trying
thanks amanda
I have 2 te7, one is land, the other like the alien
hey everyone !
Verna, don't thin you must, but there's a lot of good stuff to read on babanon. Scroll down to "Babblers Anonymous". click on it, and follow the various links there
hi HK
can some one tell me a clue for in 11 please
hi helen
11: exertion in the middle?
hi helen!
Thanks Hetty I might as well I've come to a dead stop on the grid still haven't got ca6,21
ni 7/40 clue, please?
The Gunpowder Plot story is in "Other Interests"; Stid's tale-telling is there also and a host of good animal stories from Haz
TO: cooler
Good Grief! I feel like I've been at this all day and still have 79 words left. This game has a way of making me feel stoopid!
Me too - I've 112 left - just one more to go to the pub - but I can't even find the first la5 (I can't imagine what it can be, given the second la4)
Meanwile, Verna, the ca6/21 is our feline friend followed by the last 3 letters of the nov*** Catholics say
TO - ni7/40 - more speedy (of a car, usually)
ty for those! : )
jac, n's from top right?
hetty - i am loving your new profile - bubt also at the same time i am sorry for those who will not have read the previous - which was equally fascinating in an altogether different light :)
I don't get the ni...
Yes I do. Sorry.
'cause I want him to live next door to me, Helen!
Well, Helen, we are all a lot of different people--depends on the day and the mood when writing--I'll update again soon
LOL amandacath! - you are welcome to move two houses away from me - i'm not really fond of those people anyway, lol
LOL amandacath! - you are welcome to move two houses away from me - i'm not really fond of those people anyway, lol
nrkii - na5/10 - Nigerian currency, na5/12 - acronym for a national centre for rehabilitation.
Thank you Hetty. Its the old finger trouble again trying to put 7 letters into a 6 letter word. I'm sure I'm getting worse at this damn thing.
OK, dumb question - the la4/4 before the doily fabric
la 7/32 please?
thanks Jacula!
Uh oh. I broke the site again.
I meant la5/10 of course.
i just froze up - anyone else having a problem?
Yep, Helen.

Thanks TO!
great clue, TO!
Babblespasms, fiz . .
*twitch, twitch*
hey leigh!
sounds good, Helen - I'm willing to share him!
jac, matty, fiz, leigh, tor - it's frustrating all these glitches, but feeling relieved to know i'm in good company - in other words - glad it's not just me!
definitely not you - this time, anyway!
amanda - okay, it's a deal *hk shakes amandacath's hand in ladies agreement to share ar*
Right, I'm shutting down and going to the pub - see you later!
Helen - the site was down for about 2 hours yesterday (UK lunchtime). I think Dr_G must be on holiday.

doing well helen. Crazy life but other than that . . . How are you?
He doesn't live next door to me, either, Helen! LOL
i will never, as others have said in the past, understand why internet is NOT a word!
Well, Helen, I figured everyone else would choose Nessie, the Yeti, crop circles, UFO's & aliens, or the Bermuda Triangle and so I thought... why not pick the biggest mystery of all? LOL.
Cathyar - I agree!
judy - lately not enough hours in the day, am having house rewired, chimneys tuckpointed & new roof -
BBL. I need to prepare dinner.
jacula - MEN???? ROFL!!!!
cl5/18 anyone please?
Wow, Helen. That will keep you out of trouble. My Dad moved in with me in June. Haven't had a free moment since. He has done a lot around the house but no time to myself!
mymuse- Hi! try actor montgomery cl***
also - i just waited 8 weeks for a new picture window - oversized so had to be custom (seal on old one compromised, so all foggy inside) they installed it yesterday & there's a scratch on the glass - so they have to replace it, another 3 weeks
merci, muchas gracias abe, was going crazy
anyone have teh tr 8/60 or the tr 7/36?
Hi all If I had been able to play today my icon would have said "Enable Dictionery" one of the greatest unexplained mysteries of our time :)
next time someone speaks with Dr. G, please ask him why?
no prob mymuse :)
alt spelling for a suspensful moment in a book or t.v. show where you are left hanging. add a cross letter to it
lol FMitch
hmm, phandmd, which word are you referring to? more clues?
that's a good one, FMitch
er 6 & both 7's
cl 5
think mountain
ahh judy - one of those blessing/curse situations, good luck! - but i think that's great of you - too many people our generation stick their parents in nursing homes - i have no respect for that at all - time to pay back the piper
Hi FMitch!
Helen, will they replace the window for you?
yes judy they are & i feel kinda bad about it because the scratch really is very minor, but beside the cosmetic thing, i also worry that a golfball-sized piece of hail will hit it at just the right angle, 10 years & 1 day from now when the warrenty expires & then i will regret not having it replaced
did you get it jamie?
nope. i got lost as to what you were referring to. one more time?
that & also for $1800 i think it should be free of flaws just like it said in the contract
Absolutely, Helen! better safe than sorry later.
cl 5 - mountains have sharp drops, or a t.v. show might have a cl* hanger, change the last letter
ahhh, thanks!
do you have the tr 8 or tr 7?
nope
Hi everyone.. not much time for me to chat today.. wow, another big grid!
I need er 6 & er 7/32

Here's one of life mysteries. I buzzed my 7 yo don Jaun's hair and now the girls want to touch and feel it. I was hoping for a Samson effect...
hi all...could someone please help me with the la7/28?

hi wolvie
hi helen!
Heyas W & CJ ..
tor is funny!
Hi there! Helen, that Alan Rickman?
My fan .. Thanks!
you betcha chic!
one of your favorites, I know....so who goes tonite in BB7?
truly, madly, deeply. ;-)
chic - what is your pic? bermuda triangle from space?
that's correct, Helen...
:) wolvie
chic - yes weird to actually see the triangle part - i thought it was just roughly the shape
why can't we have exlax - just once! ;-)
BB7, Helen, who goes tonite?
chic - are you getting the live feed? i hope the robe goes, that's all i got to say
no I didn't do the live feed; and that would be Marcie?
well - i'm torn bet the 2 - pros & cons for each - who are you wanting out?
BB7??
i did the feed this year - 1st time - have really tapered off cause they are boring, lazy, mean, very mean - but marci wears that robe ALL THE TIME it's annoying, the man rarely gets dressed
internet and intranet aren't words :(
really wanted James out; Jannie is being so naive this time around..Marcellas should go, he's turned into such a rat....
Yes, they are, Calqhoon... just Enable won't accept them! But TRY not to let Babble distort you view of reality too badly!
la 5-10 please the 1st one?
what is bb7??
and the producers really do a great deal of heavy editing - they all hate being there, most have really bad attitudes, they make fun of the competitions, they aren't excited about rewards, they complain all the time - and many are veyr mean drunks - jase & dani in particular
big brother wolvie
Big Brother 7 on CBS
sorry wolvie - big brother7
oh - brother. ;-)
USA Big Brother, that is.
I love watching Dr Will and Boogie; they are so evil...and funny...
sha: la + a number after nine
not much of a television watcher - CSI - Vegas, yes. Stargate, yes. Football (american) yes...ott - not much.
chic - ITA james out!!! what a total ass! i am really hoping it's all an act on janie's part - i am beginning to suspect that much of this season is scripted & people walked into the house already having intact alliances - there are runors that boog & erika were living together, or at least dating prior to show
Wolvie, Love Stargate
i love stargate too! & atlantis!
yep - I got hooked on Daniel from day one. :-)
love stargate too
of course, the story lines are great, too - lol
I'm a Richard Dean fan
lol - babble stargate fanclub - i prefer o'neal -he cracks me up
he's good too - got my fix with McGyver tho
Helen, I agree that some of it seems scripted, esp when Will and Boogie do their thing in the diary rm..
see, i never saw any mcgyver - not even part of one episode - think i need to fill this pop culture hole in my life
ra7/28?
It's still running everyday probably twice a day on TVLand channel; McGuyver that is...
chiley the one I have is more wet as in weather
nevermind.....I found it
chic- i mean more than that - i mean competitions are designed to favor certain people & the hg's think that too & re-doing a comp is easily fixed too - you can always have a 'malfunction' & then re-do if you don't like who won - bb7's rating will suffer bigtime when janie leaves & the producers know that so they are invested in keeping her around
yes you do, helen - it's a hoot.
chic - i do not get the expanded cable, maybe i should look into that - or get my neighbor, who is not ar!, to tape it for me, huh
hiya sha
hey, chiley - share?
really! that's quite a conspiracy theory going there, Helen. but this last POV contest was so easily not fair but fixed...
yep - or get direct TV - that's what I have
which pov - they are all running together in my mind
hey ruthy
i think everyone has direct tv but me, lol
the only channel I don't have that I want is the SCi-Fi one; I just don't want all the drek that comes with it...
I don't Helen, just cable
worth it - much better than cable - and you don't even have to use me as a referral. ;-0
chic - drek anyway you go these days - like the old springsteen tune...
cire
Tues nite's POV, where they had to bid who could last the longest in the spinning chair, mech. bull etc.
Hi mom!
excuse me - did it again
HI Wolvie
how are you
much better than yesterday - how about you?
but i need to have the cable anyway for my computer & the basic package is just $20/mo more - but yeah i don't get scifi either, which i would love to have, maybe a good thing to stay away from more tv though
doing good. I was hoping for a smaller puzzle.
u ok sha
I have cable for the puter, direct TV for TV. you can do both with drtv tho
that's what Dvr is for; I tape a lot of shows so we can zip thru in half the time...
Mom - ha! I don't mind as long as the site stays up.
i'm sorry chic - i did not include the 'thrown comps' aspect into my theory - producers know who is going to throw comps in which direction so they can set it up ahead of time to make those outcome occur/occur easier
I spend way too much time doing this. But I am enjoying it and the family isn't fussing
hi all
hi MaMa
hi MaMa
well that's certainly making sense now but too bad. I'd rather see them all battle it out for real..
hi MaWa
wow i just logged on and this grid is begger than yeaterday
man i sound paranoid, don't i - but this is the common thinking in the feed chat rooms & there are A WHOLE LOTTA PEOPLE there
Bigger i mean
and they are probably right...
anyone gett the 11 yet?
at least it seems like site is working better today
chic - it would be boring for feed subscribers then & they would lose $$$, but i agree - the problem with this season is that they already all know each other so there is none of that 'testing the waters' & 'getting to know you' intrigue
yes thanx ruthy u?
Chic, there was a clue earlier -- in 5/10 + st 6/18

ac8/55?
mymuse - so by asking for help, we are an+vowel+movie***** (change cons)??
perhaps a definition?
temple said a word-oooohhhhhhhhhhhhh
i DID??? WHERE???
ac8 = "A radioactive element found in uranium ores, used in equilibrium with its decay products as a source of alpha rays. Its longest lived isotope is Ac 227 with a half-life of 21.6 years. Atomic number 89; melting point 1,050°C; boiling point (estimated) 3,200°C; specific gravity (calculated) 10.07; valence 3."
i didn't see it owl
temple, psychological dependence on others for the an 9
an9 means having a physical or emotional dependence on someone
tor: i have that one
mymuse, its not addiction, will keep looking, thanks for the clue,
temple-an9=an+what you run in the summer to keep cool+straight letter+3rd vowel+the insect in the woods that gives you lyme disease(drop the last letter)
torgone, your clue went completely over my head
hey torgone!!
i can see where being a loner will be a definite handicap for this one....
if you are having trouble with the movie part, just think of female sexual organ
an9 = girl's name + Chinese movie reviewer
CLIT

mymuse - you're now in the running with torgone for BEST CLUES EVAH!!
Jaime - what thespians are doing on stage minus the last letter.
well deeha - a tally is being kept - you will get a bill at the end :)
in11 = prefix for between as in in***national + kitchen item what it does to relieve veggies of water
lol helen

yeah - it's not like i'm not scamming these clues either, lol
KMS - in*** (between, as in 'between state' highway) + what you do to your muscles from working out too much or what you do to vegetables.

TO = that's great. ;-)
oops
LOL - cute
Don't YOU start, TO! LOL
BYE ANNIE!! (now you've done it owl!!)
* *
WTG TO!
lol deeha - i believe that is fairly cheaped compared to what millions of americans who cannot afford health insurance would have to pay - but i think those people are using the old string & door technique
yea i guess so...
i wish we had national health insurance
Sure it is but we just arent used to having to pay!! My dad never had a tooth is his head and he could eat anything!!!What a disappointment 'tartier' isnt in the dictionary!!
i wish healthcare wasn't tied to employment
bite your tongue hk!
I tried "tartier," too, Deeha. After all, some girls are clearly tartier than others.
(And some desserts are tartier, too.)
hi vi!
Having bragged it was free our hospitals are getting like Third World ones now, many are dirty and infected with superbugs
i wish we did too, helen. Big time
Hello, TO! :)
You speak for yourself Vicuna!!!!
phantom word to match the teeth talk: extract
seriously - it's insane - healthcare should not be treated like a luxury item, those who can afford the best get the best, that's not right
gee - just like ours deeha.
Deeha's not exaggerating. It's true, sadly.
Phantom word for Deeha's healthcare: extinct.
I'm not kidding either
or tartar
any clues for the la 7/32?
My phantom words today are inertia, intricate & itinerant. Also, 'malfunction' was the first word I 'saw'.
judy, pl of the one before it
inertia was the one I wanted
TO just gave a great clue!!
TO - that is a word!
TO: That's NOT a phantom word!!
I've been seeing tenant at every turn, plus financier.
*slinks off to naughty corner*
i just had a hip replacement - went to a top guy, got the minimally invasive procedure, excellent care, excellent results - but i had to pre-pay his surgeon's fee of $8800 because he's fighting the insurance companies to code this procedure differently from the old way - now not everyone can afford to lay out that kind of cash - it's not right
it is - just make sure you get the plural!
Poor TO! If it's any comfort to you, I was convinced that was a phantom, too.
CJ: first 3 letters of a bride's material + alt spelling of a 13 year old
Time Out, TO! 10 minutes for you. LOL.
lol vic - your 2:25
okay * hk steps gingerly off the soapbox*
wow helen - sadly, i would have thought it would cost more. Glad it went well.
ok jacs! as long as it isn't one minute for every year of age! LOL!
that was just his surgeon's fee, discounted from $14,000
brb
altho' ours is free you can still get refused treatment - on cost- that the next door hospital trust will give you. It epends on your post code and is really unfair
ty Aloy! Perfect clue!!
hi helen - i'm glad someone else gets on the soapbox - it's usually me
whoopee!
Well, helen, if you can jump on and off a soapbox this nimbly, that hip replacement MUST have been a success!
whooo - okay. Man
Tee,hee Temple.:) Speaking of time out, I must take some to feed the bunnies and g/pigs, and then to play Snakes & Ladders with P's 11-yr-old daughter. BBL.
ok need to take a break, back later
LOL, Vicuna!
helen, I cant believe you had to prepay a surgical procedure b/c the surgeon is fighting a code. What a terrible state our health system is in. Glad everyting went well for you.
have fun Jac
cu later mmim
see you later Mymuse and Jacula
Later, muse and jac
bye jacs bye muse
Bye, to those who are leaving!

ai 6/18 clue, please?
plural of the ai 5/10
pl of the ai 5 before it

I thought texas was a state....of mind...lol

cl6/24 - movie reviewer with a Chinese accent?

Yeah, it's the state of mind exemplified by the current White House.

that was so silly, hetty! I saw it briefly before I disappeared for real. I was really looking forward to a smaller grid today. Oh well. All the points add up!
Good, jilli. At the library today I tried to interest Murray Shoolbraid in babblers--he may show up!
gwen - I would normal spell this other in 7/8 with an en - think contestant
aw, tor.....:(
Well, he's clever with words, all right!
poor Tor -- are you okay?
poor Tor -- are you okay?
It's doing it again!
I shoud say. Today we were declining Latin verbs a deal of the time.
that's the combo I , not the total. ;-)
I shoud say. Today we were declining Latin verbs a deal of the time.
I shoud say. Today we were declining Latin verbs a deal of the time.
Thanks, Wolvie.
now I must try for the 3 ar6's
Thanks, Wolvie.
It's swallowing my words again!
It's swallowing my words again!
It's swallowing my words again!
*note: I ALWAYS decline Latin!* *giggle*
gwen thanks for the clues, found one of the in8 (I thought contestant :) and got it, don't have the ohter in8 yet though
Hello, stidmama.
And hetty, and others who arrived while I was administering snack.
hello Vi!
Speaking of snacks, hubby wants one. (He hasn't been out of the house since getting home from the hospital.) So, it's (short) roadtrip time!
hey everyone ! i'm back - sorry for bugging out like that - roofer came with samples
holy monster of a grid!!!
yes, nut, and you expected pablum?
you can say that again evanonut
later gwen
A little pablum is nice from time to time (she says wistfully)
Hi vicuna. Resurfaced to beg for the ex5/20, please
up to 160 time for another break, bbl
bye gwen
i can't start this one...maybe i'll just help jam the log instead
ugh, where will i find 40 more words?
Ex5/20, Ex5/20, read all about it!
99 bottles of .... no wait, that's 99 words, hmmm, beer might make this easier to bear
boy this is a big one, not sure where to start
hello helen!
beer might make alot of things easier to bear...*sigh*
The grid of a thousand words starts with a single letter.
{{[daisy}}}
The distorted view from beer may help find words.
somebody said that Marquee Marc is on a reality TV show? Does anyone know which one?
hello moule - don't think we've met before -- ?
stid - i think that's marcellas on big brother
hi Moule -- Ottawa?
Hi Stidmama
hungry - going to get lunch - back soon
oh, thanks helen, I was just trying to figure out which one he might be... never saw a picture of him before .... brb
or as he is known among the chatters who get the feed - marcell ass because he has been mean toe everyone's favorite janie & no one likes him anymore, plus he wear the same white silk robe most of the day, never seems to get dressed
stid - where's your flag gone?
what??? me??? a rumor-spreader!!!!
I read all about it, Vicuna! Ta.
hi all
wowza- on the puzzle!
hi kim!
Hello, kimberblue. Yes, it's a doozy.
still don't know, jill -- it's been a few weeks. I also don't have a purson of any color any more. That's okay... it makes me mysterious.
you said it, kimberblue!
so stid - did you go check him out?
I noticed the purson absence too - and your profile doesn't say if you're male or female
no Jill -- but does it really matter?
With a name like "mama," I think I have a guess as to her gender...
LOL as if my screen name and my chat topics didn't give it away!
stid-incognita
no, stid - and I think people can figure it out from the mama bit - lol
Helen, I am trying to figure out how that game is played... I have never watched a "reality" TV show... so far I am stymied!
going for lunch NOW - bbl
well stid it's pretty awful - i realized what it was that kept me watching these shows, like bb & the bachelor & that is the pure horror of it all - & since i am allergic to scary movies, this has substituted for that genre
in bb - 15 people are locked in a house & must live together & each week they vote one person out, until there are 2 left & then the last 7 voted out (the jury) vote on who wins the big prize
later Jill!
i say it's mean because there is lying, conniving, tone of swearing, deceit left & right, & people's true natures come out on natioinal tv for all to see - it is the epitomy of inappropriate disclosure
Helen, it seems like a very silly thing to me. I can't imagine taking that much time out of my life for something like that -- I guess I am really just a stick in the mud. give me "Green Acres" or "Looney Tunes" any day!
stid - $1,000,000 - does that give you pause
I don't need to watch people being mean to others and acting like total trash... not even for a million dollars. It is not in my nature, and it makes me sad when people put money over relationships.
You testify, stidmama! Hear hear!
popped up for help with the ca 5/12 , the one after the autos, please
a la ca5/12
hmm, got that one, what precedes it ( a 5/12)?
well, they are at best fake relationships - but if you mean their real life relationships, i can see where for some people that much money really means a long-term change in circumstance - which can be great for large families struggling, etc. - but your point is taken, most are greedy, single young people
hello inge. I am ten words from halfway...
ca 5/12 diamond measurement?
Anyoe have the fr7, please?
I am 15 to go, and loosing my sanity
no, it goes autoas, a ca4/5 wagon, and then a la ca5/12. The next 5/12 is the pl of wagons.

I think that's what cauz just "clued"!

i feel like it should be my "unexplained phenomenon"
Don't cry, little Fiz ..
It has the opposite effect on me - I want to throw the laptop across the room, stomp on it, then come back and try again - of course.
*snifffffff* ok, tor, but just cause you're so nice.
i'm just having one of those days where everything is taking 12 times as long as they should to finish. no exception here.
There there . . You don't want your blouse to get te9/54ed ..
here, Fiz, have a cookie.
*tries stomping on laptop* hey charm, that works great. i feel better already!
yes, but does your laptop?
we're not talking about the laptop's feelings, we're talking about mine. *deep breath, bite of cookie, delicate swan dive into grid*
we've kept one off the ledge....
*flurry of nilla wafers floats through the air*
finally made it back. :)

Speaking of Batty Natty (she was Nitty Natty once, but an electronic comb soon put paid to that), we've had great fun tonight. We played Snakes & Ladders and I beat her (she's 11, btw). Then we played it back to front (up the snakes and down the ladders). I beat her again. 'Let's play something else!' she said. We played 'Frustration'. A straight game of only one set of pegs each. I beat her. A more complicated game of 2 sets of pegs each (where you can end up knocking one of your own pegs off the board). She beat me. (She was happier now! LOL) Then we played a game she calls, 'Girl Boy' - it's a list of boy's name, girl's name, fuit, flower, animal, bird, country, colour, clothing, food. One of you picks a letter of the alphabet and each word in your list has to begin with that. You get 3 points for each word you don't coincide with and 1 point for any you do. After that, there was another paper game where each player draws a head an neck and then folds the paper over, you swap papers and then draw the trunk and arms to the waist, fold & swap again, below waist and legs, ditto former things, draw feet.
go gwen go!
hi Jacula!

Nope. Not different. Hmmm.
ni7/40 = means first rate as in that's a real ni**y idea, then add "more so" ending 3 letters+

A change of subject briefly; two 8 year olds who come to me for German did not know the term "margarine". When I brought out my Country Crock, they claimed that that is their butter....
hi/bye Mother... :-(
Anyone who needs a clue for those 2 words, think of the film, 'The Italian Job'.

I was just dumbfounded that they had never experienced the difference, and they lived in Germany with their families for two years.
Jill, I am thinking of doing the story, even if it's just a short bit. I am not even trying to finish these monster grids any more. Maybe in the winter when I am inside anyway...
Aramis is a very nice aftershave/cologne. LOL.

that's why Greg Norman is the world's best lover... he always comes 2nd!
*falls off chair laughing*
Bambam - we really don't need details of the gentleman in you. ROFLOL. But, if you go last, then good for you. ((HUGS))
I'm waaaay too young for this chat....
you started it Jac!
you guys are horrid

*Picks kalea up off her chair but also asks, 'Can you retrieve my Siberian Tiger print slippers from under the desk, whilst you're there?' Thank you!
Hey K you write worse....

Oh, there's the Aussie guy trying to play the victim now! ROFLOL.

As Owain and Otto went about their business in the market that morning, they heard the rumor that the doctor had been called to their mother's house.
book, jilli?
ooh just in time for story time...hope i can stay for it all
kalea - is that 'cos since you discovered Babble you don't dust in every corner, or do you mean I don't? I don't!
"Probably Doris again," opined Otto. "I bet she ate too much again," agreed Owain.
didn't you say your were going to put a link in your book?
had to swap batteries
that was klaurel, jilli
Wow K is hubby that impatient?
oh - well, both start with k!

Off to find more words. Stidmama - will catch up with you in Babanon.x
lol jilli
They continued on, helping merchants set up stalls, bringing in straw for the cart animals to stand on (made clean-up easier), helping older people carry their purchases home.

Okay, later Jac!
there we are
**and a reminder, keep tossing out those clues, folks! I have 141 to go!**
FIREWORKS!! Now if I can just hobble over to the bed . . . see you all tomorrow!
bye, Unea
Mid-afternoon, a new rumour began to circulate, that the doctor had been driven home by a stranger.... in Gilly's cart.
"Texas Hearts"... sounds good! congrats on being published !
ladies and gentlemen we will be back later need to take care of business
woo - hope I can copy that URL and have it come out ok!
See you tomorrow, Une, take care.
ti 6 after the iodine word?
stid! you used a Brit spelling!!!
anyone have the al8?
Owain looked at Otto, and Otto grinned. They said nothing about the strange man, but listened to the rumors grow as the afternoon wore on.
the metal used for Coke cans, take away the last two letters and put a C instead
add frozen water - e to the 6 before it
See, Jill? I TOLD you you and Hetty are a bad influence on me!
klaurel, is that it? Texas Hearts?
tr 5/10 right after the 8/60 pls?
actually that clue only works for brits/aussies.... we spell it -ium not -um
yep
ty!
Or is that Haz and Jacula who are a bad influence? LOL
if you like romances with strong heroines, that is your book
Oh the ru word, re Stidmama. Not every American uses the shorter spellings!
is that a writer's name or is that really you?
I have had enough. 293 words but I just don't care anymore...
ti 6: metal cookie container + opp. of empty
I can see why I might be a bad influence, Stid. But Haz? What has she done??
no PHAN!
though i am getting there too
the STs are driving me nuts
hi everyone, hi son
TR 5/10 after the 8/60?
hello Andree
g'day mum did you get your share update on email?
Finally, the merchants were loaded up, the stalls cleaned, the old straw tossed out and the tables wiped down. Otto and Owain wearily walked through town toward their mother's home.
Hello Andree
tndaisy - tr5/10 - it might be a family tr***. To look or act alike, or something.
Okay Klaurel, I got the pics to you.
actually, I read somewhere that the Brit "u" insertions are from the French (Norman) influence and the American elimination is based on Latin.
the last two STs?
yay bg
ok thanks Jac :)
the last 2 st's are harsh, severe... and more so
They were greeted at the gate by an excited Andy and Gray, full of news. Jokingly, they grabbed the boys and swung them upside down, pretending to get more information by shaking them.
not yet Bambam, I haven' checked my emailst
ahhh, BamBam, makles some woman parts happy
ok have a look did a minor reshuffle
Nan and Olivia came to the edge of the porch, dolls in their arms and waited their turn.
st 6/21 stern disciplinarian, st 8 : more so
klauret do i have to just download it or can i buy an actual copy of it?
jilli - traditonally we in Britain 'hate' the French but we also 'hate' the Romans. Thing is, they gave our language such fluidity that they must have made us crossword champions of the world.
The twins put the boys down and picked up the girls, carrying them around the house to the back, the little boys trailing behind -- and in front and in circles.
bam - you have to download it. It is an epub, unfortunately
i think the american elimination is based on lack of need for the extra U, and simplicity, and wanting to be unique ... which is why you call all sorts of things something different (boot/trunk for example)
faucaet/tap.
facet
and Jac, who likes the French?
faucet
The commotion brought Anna to the back door with a fussy Sarah in her arms. "Boys, can't you keep it down a little? Some of us were taking a nap." But her eyes were twinkling and a smile broke through.
Got it right at last! I really will open a bbottle of wine now. 26 words to go... it's been a long day!
Otto sent Andy inside to get a couple of towels, and Owain set up a basin in the shade to wash the worst of the grime off.
54
sidewalk = pavement.... Jello = jelly.... jelly = jam .... hood = bonnet .... porch = patio/verandah ..... gas = petrol ..... gas station = service station/garage .... the list is endless
Bambam - je n'cromprenz pas? I think! It's been a long time since I tried out my French.
the first li6/18, please?
My wine had better be a good bottle, since it began with a double b when I typed about it!
Paul poked his head out of the stable, "Hello boys, John and I are just reshoeing the donkey. We'll be in soon."
FIREWORKS!
hi all

YAY daisy!

In no time, it seemed, The family was again gathered around the table in the front room. Doris sat in a comfortable chair in the corner, sipping broth from a large mug.
Oh, shurrup. Bambam! LOL.
Well I suppose I should go back to my "other" life for a little while. maybe later tonight I'll be back.
be well, daisy
to be honest i went around europe a bit, and i've never felt so unwelcome as in france, even though i speak OK french,,,, they just plain don't like the english (or any dirivative) despite the fact that if not for us they would all be german... and i'm stopping now just in case i dig myself too deep a hole!
The twins were soon brought up to date on the story, and Paul continued.
italy, on the other hand, was WONDERFUL!
bye daisy
**The next bit leaves off all quotes on what Paul says...**
later daisy
All right we have to be nice everyone. My 9 yo is eaves dropping
Bambam - you've got the point most succinctly!
They are very rude people!
*gags Bambam for the child*
lol
they have massive chips on their shoulders that english became the global language, and not french... i think it really irks them!!
When we woke that morning in the loft of the tavern in the walled town at the base of the mountains, we found that several men from another party had lost their pockets.
thanks kalea
Bambam - I agree/.
truck = lorry, trunk = boot and on and on<I calim to be semi-quadrilingual - educated Brit aand American and Canadian, with school French plus a smattering of Québécois thrown in -- oops, visitor arriving..bbl
quelle domage! hahahahah
*lost their pockets?*
They have never gotten over Napoleon's defeat.
jill, how about "da" = "the" hahahaahha
Fortunately, we had been reminded to sleep lightly and with our bags under our heads. Still, it left us with an uneasy feeling.
If there is anyone truly from France here, then please come in and speak your piece.
*lbd: it used to be that pockets were something tied on to a belt that was worn under clothes....*
anyone have the first li6/18? pleeeeeeease?
how many people does it take to defend paris? no-one has ever tried! boom boom!
*thanks Stid...i thought that was an odd turn of words.*
we will defend paris, right down to the very last american!
li6/18 = one who collects that dusty stuff out of the dryer.
li 6: like the li 4 before it plus **ettles will sting you
sorry, wrong li....
thank you!!!!!
We soon had our wagons and carts hitched up and made our way to the center of town, to learn whether the supplies we needed could be acquired there. Our intention was to gather the foodstuffs we needed on our way back, but we had lost some large chain and metal fittings in the storm that blew us off course.
the first li6,18 is li4,4 + bird's **st
We had been told that mines in that region produced good quality materials. And with the ship's quartermaster and first mate along, we were confident we could describe our needs to any competent blacksmith.
clue for 1stti5/10 please
BG! Hubby wants you
*ang****, capital of libya
does anyone have the last tr 7?
Why did he have to wait until after I move. Men and their timing! lol
no thats the wrong country, hang on... **mental blank** i think its algeria
We were disappointed to learn that a mine had collapsed the week before, and all available hands were busy lifting and digging to get to the trapped miners.
yah, I know!
ti..........diamond crown
BR he wants to know how far along you are
oh im having a shocker... its not even a capital and its in morocco... and my geography is my pet subject OOPS!!!
tiara
What's up with DH?
good one mum!
lol Bambam
oops
British troops defending Paris, bambam? Let's go back to WW1 first, to my grandad's 2 brothers who died in the trenches doing just that.
not much. and your DH?
Naturally, we offered our services, but with no experience in mines we would have been ineffective.
yes full respect there Jac.... sorry.
Ummm How far along who is K? My Dh is fout of town agin for next week/
those trenches.... what a fate...
Yes, not the glory those young lads imagined, were promised or got, Bambam.
now i've got the tune for Tip Top bread in my head.... Good onya Mum, Tip Top's the one! good onya mum hahahaah
ahhh, which iis why you are here. :) And how far along in the puzzle
same in australia, people lying about their age to get over there, it was seen as a big chance for glory, but for way too many it was just a horrible fate
So we decided to leave some of the men and wagons behind to help haul the debris from the mine, including the quartermaster and first mate; and the rest of us pressed on.
Mind you, the Vietnam fighters were treated badly when they got home, too. See the film 'First Blood' for an example of that.
We followed the river for a day, moving parallel to the mountains. It was a nice change from the climbing of the previous two days.
there is one town in france that loves Aussies, and even celebrates Australia Day.... some place we liberated, but far too many others with short memories make it very difficult ... even when we try to speak French (and they bloody-well understand me too!!)
mu 5/16 help please?
I have 139 left. He Flies out to Iowa on Tues. and comes back on Sun..
Bambam - cannon fodder, all. Dispensible. According to the Government. Dunno why I gave them a capital letter back there; cowards, all.
i think vietnam was worse for the mental state of the POW's, definitely... in the world wars they were all heroes, but the vietnam war was so unpopular by the end that even the veterans were not lauded
nrk.............go straight down
yay him
The weather was nice, and we shared stories and jokes as we walked along.
thanks kalea
yw
mu 5: donkey minus last vowel + abbreviation for Connecticut
good clue inge, that was a stupid word!
Toward dusk, we found a farm we had been told of; not too big nor prosperous, but the farmer was pleasant enough and had an extra barn we could shelter in. He invited us to dine with his family.
anwyay off the French subject, it's Friday and I wanna be in a good mood
just looked it up , it measn penalty
hi all
We brought out some of our supplies, and shared some preserves with them for the biscuits.
hello asculptor
hi asculptor, long time no see!
It was a pleasant evening, and passed quickly.
hi asculptor.
na 5/10 help please anyone?
Bambam - you are wrong re the POW's being heroes. Unles they tried to escpe they were not tought of as heroes. But, truth is, not every guy can do the Colditz thing. Sometimes, they just want to keep their heads down and get back in one piece to their families. At times, in the 194o's and 50's, that made some people think they were cowards. Unbelievable really!
ack, been busy slamming my hand in car door...
na 5: na + anagram of air
na5/10 = n + stuff we breathe + vowel.
oh no!
typing one handed for a couple of days now

I'm at my mom's... she says "HI! and ooh!"
okay, the last TE?
HI NRKII's MOM
hi nrk and mom!
thanks charm!

nrkii, are you getting your mom hooked on babble?
asculptor, she's been watching for you online, and now she understands why you haven't been on
sliding minivan door at soccer practice. broke middle finger of left hand in half plus 4 stitches!
lbd, I tried to keep her away, but she did not listen to my advice
ra7/28 please?
last te means third, from the Latin
OOOOH, sculptor! Did that, broke finger
Thinking ourselves safe, we fell asleep...
Jac i feel much sorrier for people who are conscripted, going somewhere to fight when they really don't want to,,,, at least if you join the army you are aware that this is a possiblity
OWWWWWW
Hi Aunt N!
owie!!!*curls fingers under in empathetic pain*
I'll pass your "Hi" along...
klaurel...how long did it take to heal?
{{{asculptor}}} you and Uneaixoise... hope you feel better soon, kiddo!
ra7 - Mt. RA***** or prince RA of Monaco (I think that's the spelling of his name)
all my uncles were very lucky not to go to vietnam.... they had the right birthdays (they just announced birthdates to pick people)
they say splint for 6-8 wks....
merci, stid. i am fairly clutsy anyway, but this took the cake.
as a point of trivia, Australia is the only country in the world to fight with the US in every war of the past 100 years
**back to story** and were rudely awakened before it was light by huge men with dull stares and large clubs.
asculptor, from one who has been there... take the physical therapy seriously ... do your exercises at home and everything ... it really helps!
Bambam - I also cannot believe the number of mean who wereshot by their own in the WWI as 'deserters' etc.. Surely mankind had been long enough on the earth to realise that not always everyone can shrug everything off? Effin' 'ell!
thanks Charm..........i should have known
asculptor -- I thought the clutsiness was on my Mom's side of the family, not my Dad's!
yw....
Sorry! Sorry for the swearing Babblers.
That last thing I was on about really gets to me though/
hmm, they sent me home with a BLANK instruction sheet. what exercises?
Anzac Day (our equivalent of the american Veteran's Day) is getting bigger and bigger in australia, even young people go to the dawn service... Lest We Forget
{{{Jacula}}} war is not an easy or pleasant topic.
probably after a few weeks -- you should ask your doctor though
my favorite was using silly putty-like stuff
that probably means, asculptor, that you are to do NOTHING right now until the bones are setting properly!
and i know Australia is the small partner in the Allied Powers, but it is really the US-UK-Australia friendship that is keeping this world semi-together if you ask me
ha, i had to stay back in kiddie gymnastics because i couldn't do a straight log roll.
but basically, your goal should be to get your left finger to do everything your right finger can do
my great uncle was Anzac of the year last year! (by marriage but i'll take it!!)
is this chapter ending with them getting clubbed???
yes, as stid says, don't do anything without talking to doctor.
cnt do nothing! been dongeverything! not well, but doing.
I had to go for physical therapy for my pinkie finger, and I felt silly about it, but it really helped!
*story again** The men didn't speak, just kicked us awake and pointed to the animals and carts. We were outnumbered, and hitched up in record time.
also, oldest cat died today, a long day...
*oooh, those mean men!*
I broke mine playing indoor volleyball (wallyball) a couple years ago... sigh... not born for team sports I'm afraid
oh, so sorry about the cat...
sorry to hear about your cat asculptor. (((hugs)))
Good night everyone. It's pat my bedtime and I need at least 4 hours of sleep to function...
rotten bluecross hmo, they probably don't offer it but i will check, thanks!
night bg
night night bg
nrkii, i bet that hurt...did you hit the ball with it?
np... hope you're well enough to send an email sometime soon, but I understand if not...
the ball hit me!!!
The farmer's house was dark as we left the yard, no movement or light, nor even smoke from the chimney. It was dark and cold, and the plants that in the evening had seemed well cared for; in the light of the dawn were shriveled and dry.
good night bg
dislocated and fractured my finger
night bg!
thanks. Special cat.
Jac,,, a famous quote (possibly misatributed to Patton)... "I'd rather have a German tank in front of me than a French one behind me!"
dislocated???!!!yikes, they would have to knock me out 4 that one
wikiquote.com says it wasnt him but was falsely attributed to him
Bambam - small partner? Not in my eyes! If only our Government would take a leaf from yours....
it was ugly looking when it happened, but more gross than pain... till they put it back in place!
Rather than keeping to the broad, easy road along the river, the men soon directed us over a rickety bridge and up a rocky path toward the mountains.
Our island, Bambam, is far smaller than yours... I think you get my drift?
Bambam - re the quote - LOL.
It soon became clear that the larger wagons would not make it. So they were abandoned and pushed off the side of the path, skittering and falling apart as they hit trees and rocks below. The huge men laughed every time another wagon had to be abandoned.
Further and further into the mountains we climbed, stopping only once when we reached a dry meadow with a bitter spring at the edge. Our captors seemed comfortable enough to let us wander while they rested in the shade of the only tree.
have a look at Patton's quotes on wikiquote.com... some classics in there ... e.g. "give me a bunch of West Point graduates, and I'll win a battle, give me a handful of Texas Aggies and I'll win a war!"
TA 7/28 please?
The donkey was the only animal left, and my little cart the only conveyance. As much of our foodstuffs as we could pack were loaded in, and our bedrolls.
The rest of the trunks and bags we lugged as best we could between us.
Just got back and scrolled down - BAMBAM - are you completely forgetting about Canada???????????
nrkii i will send you email so stid can continue lovely story without so many interruptions.
klaurel.... ta7,28.... to sun your skin, plus scarlett o'hara's house's name
Strangely, the mute men did not seem interested in anything we carried.
okay, be well!
or the Kama Sutra thing with an A in there
thanks, bam bam
asculptor, I do not mind you having a conversation. I am almost done anyway...
jilli, did you ever read the book Rilla of Ingleside?
jilli we in UK have not forgotten the Canandians' input.
Jill, I am not forgetting about Canada at all, just it seems they have dropped out of it for now
TA 5/10 before *** and feathers
Goodnight all, thanks for well wishes: those plus my cousin's Joan Rivers pic made me smile!
stid, seeing she's only got one hand to type with, probably tiring anyhow!
oooh, stidmama, keep going!
good night aim!
iIt was a world war, for God's sake! Our allies our ilmost inborn now.
got that
ty stid, but i will tell cousin gory details and spare you all! :)
both canada and australia were fighting in WWII for King George VI (I know this because a great uncle died and he got a certificate -- now framed -- thanking him for losing his life in the name of King and Country!)
does anyone have the last tr 7? thanks!
and my father (andree's ex-husband) has his exact name
asculptor - see my icon for today - I watch my dear old cat every time she goes to sleep, hoping she's still breathing...
as he died shortly before my Dad was born
All too soon, it was time to move on. There were just eight of us: the young man who had seen a tree move, the sailor who had seen a face in the pool on the second day, three men from a place far from our home who spoke a language more like music than speech; and myself and three others from around our mountain here.
and it's really the only thing I wish (or realistically hope) to inherit from him!! **mum will get a laugh out of that**
hey everyone - finally made it back to finish - 81 to go
haha

BG, DH wants to know how many you have left

Bambam - I know all about WW1 an 2. Well, not ALL about, but.... It seems we can't leave all tis behind us yet because it is still new and too raw.... people's grandfparents lost at the very least.

thanks Nut! for the fi6
The youngest among us looked more and more frightened the further we went. And he started to lag behind.
any time nrkii
HELEN, love the icon and the explanation
I am now playing Melanie Safka's song, 'Peace Will Come, According To Plan'.
and Jill, might I add, despite the fact that Canadians are very quirky... we have more in common with you than any other country..... former colony, large country, small population, most of it unusable (desert in our case, tundra in yours), etc.... very similar indeed -- have lots of canadian friends (and ex-girlfriends!!)
okay, here we go! TI 6/30 and TI 6/18 (first one)
ty nrkii
It wasn't too long after the rest in the meadow that he dropped out of site completely. Rather than go back and get him, though, our captors urged us forward with gestures and swings of their clubs.
Helen - 25 to go here, so I guess I'd better get off my soapbox!?
ready Jac, we'll jump off together... 1... 2.... 3.... go!
metal + not empty - ti 6/30
good soapbox to be on - that's what my parents always told me - never forget what happened
thanks,. abe, got that as you were typing
At the close of the day, we came to a pass in the mountains. Broad and wide, with many tumbled down rocks, the wind blew fiercely here.
Bambam - Canadians are NOt "out of it" - they're getting killed every day in Afghanistan
what kind of soap box is it jac?
no prob klaurel!
Lest We Forget.... can't sum it up better than that
and got the last
ti 6,18 smaller
NINE!
sorry, stid
61!
jili, that cat is gorgeous
The men pushed us toward an overhang, mostly hidden by scraggly trees and twisted shrubs.
74!
They directed me to go in first, pushing the cart over some rocks that were too big for the wheels.
Holding my mose now, Ba,bam. amd jumping off! May I ask whst I'm jumping off INTO?
41. we can do it!
Thank you, nut, not only for the compliment but for changing the subject
The overhand was just high enough for them to walk without hitting their heads, and went back further and further. It became very dark.
jill you mean as part of the UN peace-keeping thing? i had the impression that they had distanced themselves a bit from the Anglo-American alliance... as have the Kiwi's
help with first mi7 please?
i can't resist a beautiful cat

Just before the light failed completely behind us, I could see a bit of gray ahead. And the men kept pushing us forward as day turned to night and the light faded in both directions.

I think I'll give up with 123 to go - good luck to you all who are still going !
ty kalea - but makes me itchy!
lol
bye lynxxx!
later lynxxxx... I have 134 remaining.
MG -- it is as I said earlier -- Once you play Babble long enough the wierd becomes normal, and the normal becomes invisible
night lynxxx
how about lu 6/36?
good nite lynxxx
lol wolfie! so true.
Norad - are you there?
And she loved her presents, stid -- the table is a hit because she can open and close the umbrella on it all by herself
I'm trying to not get into onling gambling, but the thought of winning is just...irresistable.
MG, sort of make more luxurious
LOL Grey woulf!
But the rollerskates she got were an even bigger hit
oh that makes a kid feel so grown-up! well done, Daddy-type Guy!
lu.........delu* accommodations = past tense of eat

Hey Mg are you going to make this grid?
rollerskates? Oh my! I still have the scars on my elbows (don't ask) from when I had rollerskates at age four...
I know, I know, but I can't help it...
thankds chj and kalea! forgot about that word!
te7.............sounds the same as the rough one
stid -- she was like a baby fawn -- she fell down so many times in the first few minutes I lost count, but she didn't let that stop her at all
Do you have a large supply of bandages and popsicles, Woulf? (that's what my mother used to do for all my boo-boos)
I bet she was darling, hope you got some nice pics!
I have taught her that falling is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of... it just happens
Kahlua! ibb and i have been taking turns all day (been back and forth from ag hall) - 34 left and my brain is mush!
how bout the very last te 7?
The bandages we have, though I haven't introduced her to popsicles yet
leigh -- the other night you left because of "stupid boyfriend troubles". The query is, was it a "stupid boyfriend" trouble, or stupid "boyfriend trouble"...
te + little green men - ma*****s
Not getting the lu - tried ier and ite no luck
you guys are die hards...or losers one or the other ;)
A bit of both.
And I got a few pix, I need to get a better camera though -- the refresh rate before I can take another with the one I have is agonisingly slow
Yes, because my back was so bad, my kids learned to say "oopsie" and pick themselves up, dust themselves off and come sit on my lap for inspection. :-)
NORAD - are you there?
Kahlua- Perhaps a group of die-hard losers.
lu + sideways cross + past tense of eat
MG, kalea had a better clue, lu*ury + consumed
They are still pretty tough fellas!
