hey everyone!
Hi all.... found one of the 8's so8/45
100
or something you're drinking?
i got an sn8/40, ge8/55, and a gr8/55
so7/28
wow roc!
Pa9/60: even if you suffer from those, it is not sure they are NOT after you.
new pic roc -- soooo cute
no....this being a gracious loser is just giving me nausea
just found that G8
So new for you...
haha mg
Great clue Sprite!
And singular is Pa8/45, of course
thx sprite
thx sprite!!
There is also a very well hearing So8/45.
found the sn8
Having Ag7/36 (Ag8/50) would be very bad for the So8. (Loss of the ability to interpret sensory stimuli, such as sounds or images)
going to bed now hugs and lulul u to mg and IBB
Night Kahlua
*hugs Kahlua and mops up rest of barf*
thanks spritLoss of the ability to interpret sensory stimuli, such as sounds or images!
thanks sprite!
LOl
nite kahlua - I enjoyed some of you on the rox after dinner
thats the ag - right?
that was my loss of the ability to type an e! which i have to paste in!!
Yups
hello, cant play till later as i have to due work stuff, so hello and ill be here later
hi infernal
hello herin
and bye
LOL Fran... that should have a name all of its own, that inability, don't you think? Hi lady!
hi lady - guess I'll be gone when you get back, but good luck anyway
thanks for cleaning up for me mom
I'm not getting your 8s, smarties!
my keyboard is broken sprite, i have to cut and paste my e, then if i copy something else i have to remember it's there!
it should have a name!
That is not pleasant, Fran!
No prob, dear. Talk to u tomorrow. ulululu from ibb!
re8/40
missing one 8 now
Fran... hold down your alt key and enter 0101 instead, for your e's
hey jilli i say hello as day people usually arent here at night
i am going to do the zs then go
thanks hugabugs! i'll remember that! do you know what the number three is? that one is not working either
0051
For 8s I have so far: Ag: that inability to sense Am: beverages of immortality Gr: most fruitlike Pa: possibly justifiable fears Sn: more dogface like So: he who listens
ge8 sprite, most uncleanly
ok i'm missing that Am8. also the ge8 and re8 - another sound word
Thanks, got them all now :)
Oooohhh... who's the beautiful lady on that icon, Roc? Your daughter? She's great!
more of a clue for re8, am8 and so8 please?
he's a boy, sprite, but thanks :)
LOL! He is great, then! Absolutely beautiful!
wow roc - we are getting to watch him grow right before our very eyes :)
good evening all!
hi hk and chic!
hiya chic
hello chic!
hi fran
and helen
Hi helen, hi chic :)
hey chic
Hi ya Helen, fran and debb and chj!
helen, any more fallout over the dani thing?
like it never happened - although they are just now winding down from their 5star meal - lots to drink - we shall see
Well, for strange words... Se7/32. either of two birds of the family Cariamidae, of southern Brazil, or of Argentina, having long legs, an erectile crest, a short, broad bill, and limited ability to fly. Starts like there is a whole lot of them. Ends in mother.
wait til you see the show - jani=knockout, just gorgeous
Hi Sprite!
Hey chic! Nice icon, lol.
brb
I thought that was cool of the Christmas visitor to say that Jani was even more beautiful in person...
I think this movie is hilarious; a cult classic...
thanks sprite!
I promised you, Fran ;)
i know, what was i thinking?
Jillibus, did you see that your British amp is really there?
be back in a bit, time for dinner
Enjoy your dinner, Fran!
enjoy dinner fran - gnight - see you tomorrow
yes, sprite, when I got serious! also the extry extry thing! Embarrassing!
LOL! No, it is not. There are so many words today, you can't possibly see them all at once ;)
happy dins, fran!
I've got to hurry, will leave with the family for a last holidays outing today and won't be back until tonight. Argh, 49 more to go!
Yet I can't see the so8 or the ag8 or the am8 etc
sprite, I have 245 to go, blecchh
jilli: So is a compound. Think of sound detecting and of a male. Ag + protruding thing in face minus last letter, then make it sound like an affliction at the end. As like the word for not being able to sleep (you know it well)
Am is harder to clue. Am + what sounds like a female name, alt. spelling. Or Am + abbrev. for 'what this is about' + et4/4
heavens, go the so8 unword - already had the 1st part. Yikes.
Not seeing the words for the letters... hey, you also suffer from babblitis! ;)
also go the ag8 - sounds irreligious! Great clues, sprite - will work on the others
Oh, much better clue! You are right, so close to that word!
why can't I write the word got instead of go? Duh
Why bother? We all understand just as well, lol.
halfway home
congrats chj - i'm at 127
Good job! Just found some compounds (I always have trouble with compounds) starting with an extremity.
sprite - you were leaving in a hurry -- thanks for the help - I'll work on it - git goin'!
149 debb
well done, chj
And that Am8 I just clued is also there with the normal spelling for the female's name! I am hurrying with the game, jilli, will not leave before it is done, lol.
zots
morning all
sorry
awesome chj
is the am part of the name sprite? or just the m?
I only have 5 of 8 8's; anyone have others?
No, it is Am + name.
thanks sprite
why be sorry for zots, chj?
The 8s are all covered for. Not too long ago in the chat, I think?
Morning everyone.
it was a monkey rty that was unsuccessful
morning, jfb
hmm sprite - i get a am 7 out of that .....
not as if were a real word
I copied from the chat, mine, Fran's and Roc's: For 8s I have so far: Ag: that inability to sense Am: beverages of immortality Gr: most fruitlike Pa: possibly justifiable fears Sn: more dogface like So: he who listens ge8 sprite, most uncleanly re8 - another sound word
Go
debbinla: correct. Now try alt. spelling for the other combo.
Think of that lovely redheaded moviestar...R*** Hayworth...follows the am...and spelled two different ways..
aaah - thanks sprite - thanks for being so patient
thanks, sprite *still baffled - too sleepy, not insomniac
thanx, sprite missing the ge and the re
Hey, I have been blind for much more obvious words! No patience needed here.
chic, ge8 is most uncleanly (think many one-celled things)
hi all, caught up with those clues, thanks!
Lots of babblets today!
just found the greek temple words
got the am7, not 8
thanx, fran! got the ge's
But the vulcano is a phantom today :(
jilli, use two vowels in place of the i
jfb, are you babbling?
the am8 is a plural of the alt spelling am7
Trying to get half a weary brain cell in action MVA!!
made it to 200
good nite everyone :)
wtg hk! see you tomorrow!
me too, jfb, what with a child and a geriatric cat !!!!
nice helen!
just got to 201... going to bed
Checking my list for forgotten ones. Why is it so hard for me to remember to enter a singular for every plural? And so on?
nite, helen!
btw chic - will & jani in hoh bed - he started playing music-so cameras are off -- hmmmmmm
night nrk!
see you all in chat tomorrow...
nite-nite :)
Bye nrkii
nite
gnight nrkii
oh boy, finally got that am8! Thanks sprite and susan-vic
nite, helen, nrkii
wtg jilli :)
and thanks fran, for the clue i didn't see in time but monkeyed eventually
thx sprite for rest of the 8's!
yw ;)
could someone help me with the re8 word?
It sounds and sounds again, Erda.
okay, just checked chat and picked up a couple more lovely 8's (thanks sprite!)
I can't seem to see the so8 though, and I'd sleep so much easier if I had it
Ahh... I missed the fireworks...
never mind
I just found it
shoot, no I didn't
Good job, nrkii. And fireworks :)
LOL! Okay, device to detect things by sound + male
wow! well done!
YAY amazing sprite!!! WOW!!!!
ohhh, was trying to end it with gr**
thanks!
and congrats!!!
SPRITE ___ CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!
okay now really going to bed ... 72 for tomorrow, with a lovely list to help me through...
good night all!
How can anyone get 285 words in such a short time????
biggish but fun today. A couple of strange words, but not too many. Any clues needed before I get ready for the family outing?
(no need to say good night again -- I'll take the earlier ones, lol)
nite nrkii
Hehehe, sweet dreams then, nrkii ;)
practice, jilli. Lots and lots of practice, LOL! I had to hurry through today, because of lack of t4. Will do better and more sociable next round!
i dont' think one could do better
and you were most most helpful as you sped thru - thanks srite
congrats sprite!!
sprite, you're always sociable and helpful even though you're battling through the grid - fantastic
Have a great day/night/whatever, all of you, *hugs* *poof*
recopying sprite's list of 8s - 1:09 amsprite I copied from the chat, mine, Fran's and Roc's: For 8s I have so far: Ag: that inability to sense Am: beverages of immortality Gr: most fruitlike Pa: possibly justifiable fears Sn: more dogface like So: he who listens ge8 sprite, most uncleanly re8 - another sound word
hello again
I still haven't figured out the re8
i have the ag - i have the inability to sense words!
hi sylvia
i know i say this all the time but it feels like a never ending string of hello and hello agains.. the days blend!
jilli - deep voices re********
I think I've been looking at the wrong r
got it - thanks, MG
its the pa 8 i haven't got
fears that may or may not be rational
MVA the reason you haven't got it is it's being hidden from you by the CIA
MVA - don't listen to the voices they won't clue you
while they watch you!
MVA - you obviously are not getting messages from transmitters implanted in your tooth fillings
the walls have ears!!
thanks , slow or what!
just distracted by all those voices, mva - lol
once the pa8 is found don't forget to pl it for the 9
i told you i had the inability to sense words!
285? ugh!
and sprite has already finished!
i know, i don't know why i started.. i only have a an hour or so now for the whole day
typical! :)
freeman, you there?
Is the goal to finish; or to have fun?
good point!
finish! finish!
but i've only recently been able to finish grids regularly and i rather like it :)
actually, that's not true. i've only finished twice, but both very recently.
at least now i know i CAN. man, i'm basically spamming. sorry about that.
i haven't finished very often but i enjoy the game and the chat!
Too big for me today but even when I'm not playing I pop in for some chat.
mementomori - finish or fun - take you pick - and there's lots offun to be found in Babblers Anonymous Other Subjects ( see the Store)
I shouldn't start today, cos I've so much to do, but hey ... :)
I won't have time to finish either, ata, but maybe will get half way...maybe
my phantom today is toast or does that mean it's time for breakfast?
breakfast, definitely!
jili how is it going... I just got back from being taken away...
Gues what Ata - Haz is back from holiday soon!!!
i'm turning in - bye all -- hope to see you tomorrow ! happy babbling
oh cool! seems like she's been away for ever!
nite debbinta
nite, debb!
night debb!
blaze - taken away? I only have 76 words but all the 8s and the 9. Library day tomorrow so again no hope for a biggie - always seems to happen on library day.
jilli, you should talk to dr_g about that!
oh sure, fran, he'll change everything to suit me - lol!
phantom: ampere
well only by reality.... family, food and things... back for a bit not much hold out for a finish on this one ??OL
nose
sorry!!
ty!
sniff
oh good, at least it helped someone!
*throws hanky at jilli*
hi everyone
*wiping tears of laughter with hanky8
hi andree!
Hi Andree
be back in a bit, bath time
Must pass on something I mentioned earlier when there was a conversation about the demotion of Pluto from planetary status. This was a Letter to the Editor of the Victoria paper: 'If they got rid of Pluto because it's slow, gassy, irregular and not very bright, I'm going into hiding.' D.H., Victoria
So I think I'll do just that - goodnight all ;D
wonderful!!
lol jilli
my kitten is suddenly obsessed with paint. every time I get my watercolours out, she *lurks* and tries to eat them
breakfast calls, bbl!
cat paw paintings could add another dimension to your portfolio
wow. never thought knowing z6/33 would be an advantage!
wow, only 199 left. let me get myself a cookie.
cookies ... mmmmmmmmm
what was that clue for the ag8? unable to sense?
inability to sense.
Time for food BBL
how can sprite have finished this already! *grumble grumble* :)
scv, starts like one who doesn't believe in God
nice Tolkien word today - Mearas
and ends like food of the gods (last 3 letters)
well at least i get the second part ;p
hi all! back from bathing kids
I thought the food of the gods was a brand of rice pudding and I can't see that here!
haha
actually, like food of gods but instead of amb use ag + cons + ending of amb word
and now you can see why i don't clue very often!!
Well I got it from that MVA.
ah ha! thanks :)
but food of gods is fish and chips! (morning / evening all)
marmite on toast!
hi faunus
Good morning all....
hi flask!
Morning flask
hi flask, hi faunus
Hi Fran....How are you?
I think I'd prefer fish and chips to rice pudding if I were a god
great flask! and you?
pfft. corn dogs.
How are you sopposed to work miracles on rice pudding and custard?
am good thanks.......busy getting ready for my holiday in Spain!
haha, ew, it looks grosser than it sounds. don't think i've ever typed/written that before
wow, sounds great? have you ever been?
can't comment on that one - never had one!
Oh yes......I love the place.....my dream is to retire to there.....
Whats a corn dog?
aye, what *is* a corn dog?
can't wait to hear how it was flask!
haha. well.. gross american concoction, i suppose. hot dog on a stick, battered with something resembling corn bread
a corn dog is a hot dog on a stick that's been dipped in a corn meal batter and then deep fried
I shall keep you posted...
hello
better explanation from fran there.
Hi Herin
hows it going
sounds delightful - much like a battered banger.snag
they sound horrible but wonderful
i've actually never had one fresh, but i've had the frozen ones that you nuke, those aren't bad.
thats what i had today
mmm corn dogs
Hmmmmm - think I'll pass on that!! Especially as its only breakfast time here.
i usually wait until october when we have our annual fair, but i saw them in the store and couldn't help myself
lol sylvia!
i'
i'm sure the fresh ones at the fair are much better though
definitely
what is todays theme?
starts with Z lady
haha, ive managed to get you lovely people to discuss corn dogs. terrible!
is that the one ending in 'a'
sylvia, i think food is a favorite topic
well it's mine at least
Definately most peoples favourite theme!
i don't think my Z is in the grid today lady
i may have to get early elevenses if you carry on about food!! and it's only 9 am here!!
i thought it was a zoetrope but i thought it might a vase i wasn't sure. its tea time here
how long do you have to hack at this babble lark before you stop being a hack, and start being a wordmonger?
i always come unstuck at around 20 words :'(
i'm always a hack faunus keep trying
i'm turning in. gnight everyone
come to a stop, bbl , bye all
night scv
Just changed icon for todays theme.
i like that one jfb, its odd how many words start with z but you never think of them
See you later MVA and scv
is this written in ruby ?
same here :) well, my pic is *nearly* in the grid ....
had to see your change of icon jfb, good one! bye
down to 15
think ill finish tomorrow
bzikofski - not sure, the viewsource doesnt give any kind of indiction ;)
ahh yes it does - PHP
hi chj
Faunus, i wouldnt be so sure. how do you know ?
right click the page, view source, and do a word search for "php"
true tht
i thought it's ruby, it could be a perfect example...
anyway gotta crash. 54 words.. that's it :)
Managed to get to91 and as its a day off work must get on to boring things like removing a weeks dust, laundry etc........ bbl
Hey all - Nice grid?
hey lickety split
hi lickety! so far it's great
Nice size - Not TOO big, not too small
There's a few very nice words; not too hard, not too easy
I think the phantom words today outnumber the actual words
Mornin' All!
hi odin! nice icon!
TY Fran
gmta
whats gmta?
great minds think alike
is your icon the z6 that you found?
kind of ... its z6 plus a letter on the end
do you have a def for it?
i found all the rest, need that one more
the actual z6 is herpes z***** - sciencey name for shingles
eww, thanks!
and the sea grass is z*****a
just fyi :)
found it by googling, thanks ata!
horrid word! though it was my first one today LOL
funny what jumps out at you, eh?
I know! it was only because of the sea grass name though, not the herpes!
oh good!
a friend of mine had shingles in her ear, it was very painful and caused her to have vertigo also. not a good thing
ouch! shingles is meant to be a horrid thing
i hope i never get them, same virus as chicken pox though, quite common i think
yeah "adult chickenpox"
The virus is dormant for years in an adult (had to have had a severe case as a child) and one day...shingles.
aston
sorry
blech!
oh good, i has a very mild case of chicken pox so hopefully that means i'm safe.
at least make it a real word odin!! :-) i did it earlier and gave ata a word.
well he did apologise for it not being a real word ;)
that's true. :-)
I was caught up in scrounging or as I like to say trolling for words.
isn't that what we all do?
I have to admit it is my style but after chatting I belive many of the babblers don't need to troll as much as I do.
I have been extremely impressed with many.
I hear that. Some of the people on this forum have minds qquicker than mine has ever been
i think there are a handful that can get by without any help, sprite is my idol
Absolutely!
even sprite needs help occasionally ;)
very seldom, but yes, even sprite needs a nudge in the right direction.
there were people who were even better than sprite as well ... they just don't chat much or hang around any more
yes, if you look in the archives at the list of scores you see names that never appear in the chat.
a lot of them used to chat a bit but faded out when the site got much busier
i guess it used to be more 'exclusive' around here
morning all, I was hoping for a small grid, no such luck.
I found it by "stumbling" on Foxfire.
oh yes :P then the mob descended LOL
Mornin' Pap
hi penny!
i think boing boing did an article on it, that's how i found it
let's see how many I can find before 6:00
Raining pretty hard now as Ernesto makes his way up the state. Not too windy yet. Rain in Tampa Pap?
odin, I don't hear any wind, we had some storms last night though
penny, thank goodness the storm weakened!
we're just lucky it's nothing more than a TS
oh, didn't know you were in Fla too odin!
East coast...north of Plam Beach
good morning everybody:)
Hey jean
i grew up in Guam which has a bullseye drawn on it for all the Tropical Storms and Typhoons that start in the south pacific
hi jean!
fran, I worry because my mom lives with me and she has a heart condition. She needs the a/c to be able to breath. When my dad was alive, we were really worried because he was on dialysis and we had to make sure he could have his dialysis
yikes, fran
tong
do you have a generator penny?
we do now
sorry folks
thanks, odin
that's better odin! at least it's in the grid. :-)
I thought you'de appreciate it Fran
that sea grass z*****a, i googled it but it wont work on babble
everyone in Guam has a generator or gas or kerosene appliances, otherwise we'd all be screwed
take the A off kurt
I checked it to kurt
oh i guess you did that
the Z6 is Z + popular brand of blender
have it without the a but thought thr onr with the a should be a word here
I always want to make the word stire, duh, it's not a word
ahh, i already had it without the a, but thought there was another with the a lol
no kurt, it's not even in the dictionary!
I have one of those as a meat grinder, doesn't work, LOL
yea i realised that when i wouldnt work lol
those all-in-one jobs are never as good
it'll be in the dictionary under eelgrass instead
yep, that works, just not in the grid
maybe it will be one day :)
*stores word away to use another day*
these useless bits of info are useful to know :)
and my brain is quite good at storing them...useless bits of info that is.
same here! one day it'll remember useful things like dr appointments and stuff too ...
ugh, don't remind me, we missed my daughter's 15 month checkup last week
I'm always missing mine. My Dr phones me up a few hours before now to check I've remembered!
okay, there is no way i still need 40 more 4 letter words!
that's very nice of him/her!
I need 37 ...
I still have a loooooong way to go, 239 left
gooo penny!
but 53 5 letter words! URGH!
that's better than 85,LOL
44 5 letter words left for me
phantom: mitosis
ooh, good one
awwww pup is snoring. there;s nothing as cute as a fast asleep dog snuffling away
I just put in my cousin's name as a joke and it took it, LOL
that is nice
cool penny, what letter and length?
ma5, 16
cool, i would never have tried that!
oh yes LOL thats always amusing
it means edge, like in ma**in of the page, interesting
now I can tell her, ma.... you are on the edge, LOL
lol
poor lady had a knee replacement in april and is still suffering
oh, that's tough
her own fault, she has a pool right in her back yard and she doesn't use it for exercise
so the suffering is from not getting the knee working?
yes, she's not working it out like she should, plus the older you are the harder it is. It's not really her fault, she's a widow, lives by herself and mopes around most of the day
she lives too far for me to visit when I'm working
i see
now, if she would only get a computer, she could learn to babble, LOL
i was just curious because every time stid talks about her knees bothering her, we're always saying she should look into knee replacement whiles she's young
off for now bbl have a good day everybody:)
bye jean!
bye jean
oh yes,, the younger the better
hello again
hey infernal!
hi herin
hey im back for a bit until the adults in the house go of to role play
role play?
um d n d
oh, i played that for a while (as an adult)
dungeons and dragons but the game is called mutants and masterminds, they are the good guys that are mutants, kinda like xmen

didnt care what I was told when I had it, I just wanted to sleep!
oh faerie!! I am suffering!! thanks for your thoughts!!
FAERIE!!
'glandular fever' always sounds so much worse than mono! It sounds like you need to be put in quarantine and are on the verge of death
Druesenfeber in german, if I remember correctly
I can't help myself jbp - I just say what comes to mind
which somehow, sound like you got to go fast or something
batck atcha Faerie

Mr P - yes TAKE CARE of YOURSELF *teehee*
congrats aleksia!
:D thanx mrp
ROFL jbp
oh faerie!!
I think that's it, jbp - druesen = glands, fieber = fever. My case of mono was very mild - not enough to stay out of school, but it did get me out the stupid marching band christmas parades!
Gotta go back to work guys. may get back later - depends if anyone is watching me!
OH didn't realze we had a youngster among us I need to dive into the grid and hush for a bit *lips are sealed*

LOL becca! i was wondering about that!!
LOL
researhing what??
Therapy for a speech disorder called Apraxia
ooh! interesting!
Ok what is Apraxia ?
Yeah, it's OK, but I'm looking forward to going back into real therapy - actually seeing people with speech problems instead of computers all day
apraxia! cool!! we have a speech therapist amongst us...
Apraxia - a motor speech disorder not associated with muscle weakness, but characterised by poor sequencing of speech movements, typically groping or clumsiness of movements
Sounds very intresting. But I understand wanting to get back into seeing patients.
Yeah - I miss the contact with people. I like talking too much!
becca... do you know much about asperger... semantic/pragmatic disorder?
A little bit. I used to work with adults with learning disabilities, but now mainly focus on acquired disorders (after stroke/head injury or Parkinson's/MS - stuff like that)
ah, that would be very interesting!! hope you get onto chatting with you patients!! you seem like a lovely person who enjoys a chat!!
Becca what a wonderful career.
Thanks Mrp!
Becca, how does Apraxia differ from Dyspraxia? I'm not familiar with the former term
Yeah, it can be Faerie. I think getting out of the glorious NHS will do me lots of good and remind me why I went into speech therapy in the first place.
Bigshow - one and the same.
aah I see
I better go drug lickety and call the ER as he is still suffering too much.... sorry to bail on you but need to sort him out or there is no more clue!! (crap)! chat later guys!
I have no doubt that you are a blessing to many people Becca. Bravo to you.
Bye Mr P hope Lickety feels better soon
Later Mr P {{{HUGS}}} to Lickety
Bye mrp - love and light to Lickety. Also bye everyone - I really must get back to work now. And thank you Faerie - that's really knid of you to say that.

ugh - I've got CNN on, and they keep showing Bush in New Orleans being all pious and caring. At least they're also showing critics, but still - it's enough to turn your stomach
Good Evening All
Hi Tiny :)
Hi Tiny. Hi everyone
hideous man
Hey, didn't Simple Simon meet a pieman going to the fair?
Yes Munner he did
I already tried that LOL
He certainly did, Munner! Guess enable hasn't read it's Mother Goose!
But Enable does
if tinman is a word, t hen pieman should be too
But Enable doesn't know it!
Munner cute icon LOL
word that i want in the grid: pretzel
hi abe!
brb gotta tak my dog for quick walk brb
Hi Abe
faerie, I like it so much that i decided to keep it all the time.
and I want prize accepted
hi amanda and faerie!
prize would also be nice
I keep seeing 'vampire'
mitosis, meiosis, notochord, premier, hangman ....
and isn't the guy who rows a boat called an 'oarman'?
just a warning to all: I'm feeling very loopy today
you'd have thought
i do not want to sit at work today. i am grateful for a big board. ok, back to the grid...
That sounds dangerous abe79
i think i'm feeling cooped up by all the rain we've been having
Afternoon all. I'm hoping that the rain holds off here for a few hours, as I'm intending to go blackberry picking with my Mum.
Hi Jacula
oh no what are you on abe?
Hi abe. Isn't it odd that the icon theme should be 'z' on a day we have 6 z words in the grid?
hi jac!
on? oh no, i'm not on anything! just fed up with work!
Jacula- it is odd! i thought of making my icon one of the z words in the grid
you said you were feeling loopy so i thought maybe you hurt yourself or something and was on drugs
oh thanks for asking shorty :) it's just been such yucky weather and i'm losing my job so i feel kind of bleaah today
My icon is a 'zebu'. (One of my daughter's favourite high-scoring Scrabble words.)
oh no!!!!!!
Zebu! imagine that on a triple!
abe - So sorry to hear about your redundancy. I hope you find a new job soon.
abe - She always does get it on a triple!
thanks Jacula and Shorty. I've been job-hunting lots. and, now i can babble guilt free at my current job :)
is a zebu related to a yak?
...they are...
Apparently, there are 75 breeds of zebu (cattle with a hump) and some do have yak genes. They originated in India.
ha, i just learned about zebu's the other day
morning abe
zebu are very resistant to heat as well...hey bluephlox
abe - I think you've just Googled the same site as I did re zebus.
Hi AmandaCath.
wikipedia? lol
Hi bluephlox.
morning jacula
abe, yes.
i can't wait to play scrabble again now :)
good luck to everyone today, i'm off to work and hoping my kitten will stop eating my sweater. abe, lets play scrabble on friday:)
abe - Do what my daughter does and hold back the tiles for a triple.:)
(Then stick an 's' on the end when you get a chance.)
it's a date phlox! good luck with kitty :). oh, i will Jacula!
thanks:) adios babblers!
and then i will explain the history of the zebu
good morning everyone!!!
'Bye bluephlox. Watch out for those zebus!
Hello Annie.
hi Annie
Morning Annie!
hi Jacula and abe and amanda
is it EVER going to stop raining? The sun will come out tomorrow, tomorrow
Amen, Annie!
send some of that rain down south - Mom says they haven't had rain since May!
she can have some of ours as well!
well, I am good and stuck at 207 words - missing one o and one i...
I've still got 133 words to find!
Jacula, I scrolled back to see your beast of burden...first I learned of a zebu
One of Larry the Cucumber's Silly Songs from Veggie Tales is a song about zebu
Aha - found the missing o - it's not really related to jac's beast, but it sort of goes into the same category
Annie - as you willhave read, it's a great word for a triple score in Scrabble.:)
amanda - ooh, thanks! Hadn't spotted the on6/24 before you mentioned it.:)
Most definitely when you have a good spot to put the Z onto.....I usually get the J, X, Z, Q at the very end. so frustrating
I've never played Scrabble on-line. We use the board game at home, though.
thank goodness for xi!
nothing worse than getting stuck with that q, especially when you have no vowels
Jacula- bluephlox and i used to play everyday online (we were coworkers)
Ata - yes, indeed! Mind you, I don't like to play with anyone who insists on using one of those Scrabble dictionaries...
I havent played in a while---hope I didnt forget those useful little helpers
same here!
i find that babble has 'repressed' many of the two-letter words i know
abe - I know what you mean!
Yes, that's true abe. There was a great game online called wordox but they closed the site.
2 letter *and* 3 letter words
agreed Atalante. online scrabble is fun, but babble is better
much better
except there are 106 words hiding in the grid that won't show themselves to me ...
good morning :)
Hi Raelite
hi raelite
Ata, do you have the babblets?
Hi raelite.
I've probably got all the babblets and am missing the normal words LOL
Probably, Ata.
and I've got (at least) 5 pairs of words that are alt. spellings
hi
urf. hate alt spellings
...of each other - does that make any sense?
hi thatonekid
makes sense, amanda!
hey everyone !
hi hk!!!
Hi thatonekid and Helen.
hi helen
jacula, how are you doing to day?
hi helen
hi helen!
hi helen
Hi Helen and thatone!
Helen - 104 words to find. When it's 100 I'm going off blackberry picking (weather permitting).
105 left here Jac :)
jacula - that sounds nice! it's 8:30 am here, i have tuckpointer who have been grinding & pounding for an hour already - oh have i mentioned I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON - so i came to babble to relax me - 85 to go from last night
LOL helen. A friend bought me a fridge magnet that reads 'I don't do mornings!' She knows me well.:)
i need that magnet !!!!
What's a tuckpointer?
LOL
tuckpointing is repairing the mortar that is between the bricks of your house - usually they just fill in the cracks- but because my chimenys are in bad shape, they have to grind the old mortar out before they fill in with new
Ata - I take it you've found the ar6 & 7? (Where one applies deodorant.)
yes! excellent words!!
thanks, jac!
and i am getting the chimneys done now because i am getting a new roof - that's the thing i really, really need & have to do the chimenys first so they don't walk all over & get the new, expensive roof all messy :)
helen - Ah! I see. We're having cavity wall insulation done in about 3 weeks. It'll be a noisy job.
y/w, Une.:)
and what is cavity wall insulation?
grining out mortar? eeeeee! That sound is unbearable!
thanks, Jacula
hi Une!
morning, une
hey amanda!!
and annie!!
holy cow...I just found the 9 all on my own...I am getting better at this!
good job
rae, what are the first two letters
Cavity wall insulation is poly beads pumped into your wall cavities. It warms the house by 35% and keeps it 10% cooler in summer.
pa
raelite = showoff :)
lol
thanks
Our council is giving us 60% discount to get it done.
I wish we could get that, Jac. but our walls are utterly solid. No cavities to fill in :(
jacula - sounds expensive - is it? i guess depends on the size of your house - so this poly goes between the bricks & the wood/plaster part?
hey - can i get me one of those councils? i could use a discount here!
Helen - a cavity wall is 2 brick walls built about 3-4" apart with metal ti4/4 between. The space between the walls is filled.
Ata - A friend of mine in Wales (also with solid walls) lined the insides with polystyrene. Don't know if it worked though (was a long time ago).
I suppose solar panels will be the next step in a couple of years (when the council discounts it).
that's how your house is built? interesting - mine is brick & then a space, prob. 3-4 inches - then wood beams, then plaster walls - not drywall, but the good old-fashioned, sturdy plaster
oh! might have to look into that. this place is like an ice box in winter and an oven in summer - the joys of foot thick flint walls ...
what is this fabulous council of which you speak?
helen:
helen:
anyone have the 8's? Ive got the ag, sn, pa
yes carrie? :)
helen: I'm an expat--you don't want a council--they take a lot in taxes and don't seem to do much.
helen: I'm an expat--you don't want a council--they take a lot in taxes and don't seem to do much.
am 8/45
Houses in England aren't built with insulation as they are in the States.
re8/40
ge8/55
gr8/55
sn8/40
is the city divided in areas & each area has a council? is thta how it works *hk shows ignorance of brit gov system - but admits she watches brit parlimentary proceedings late at nite on c-span cause she really likes the accents*
pa8/45
that's it helen.
Refresh to see a diagram of cavity wall insulation on my icon.
i only have insulation in the attic - not in the walls
so8/45
LOL jacula - tx!! gee, i hope there's not going to be a test later - going to take a more in-depth look now
LOL, Helen.
that's very interesting jacula! i bet that will save you a fortune on heating & cooling!
that should keep me busy for a while, thanks all
that so8 is insane! :-)
So when do we, like...
Helen - a neighbour over the road had it done last year and says it's paid for itself already! That's what persuaded me and my next-door neighbour to have it done (plus the discount, of course!)
Something you don't have enough of in your closet
one more question - i've heard references to council estates - i'v always gotten a not so positive impression about them, even though the term estate conjours up something large, elegant & manorly - what exactly is a council estate?
Loser in fabulous race
oh geez - you're right Une, that so8 it ridiculous!
is he a new superhero??!!
afternoon all :)
hey, marso
hi marso
A council estate is an area of housing where the houses are owned by the council and the tenants pay rent to occupy the houses. Not all council estates are bad (i.e. sink estates) but some are.
he seeks out evil sea creatures
I don't live on a council estate, btw.
LOL!
ah - i believe that is what we here refer to as section 8 - low income housing
they do *tend* to have fairly negative connotations - some are deserved, some aren't. some council houses are *gorgeous*, it really depends on the area - what part of the country and whether its inner city housing or not
ok - just one more question - the # of people on a council (i'm guessing they're elected) is proporational to the number of people in the district? is that accurate?
atlante - ahh - that wonderful thing known as equality
I've no idea, helen. There are city, town and parish councils. I'm not very au fait with their inner workings.
Good morning all - happy Z day :)
morning, ch1212
happy z day
hi ch
how do u mean Helen?
helen - there's a 'guide to government' section in the UKGov website.
well thank you one & all - & thus concludes our lesson on homebuilding & the brit gov system - lol
u can have our gov system if u like lol
...And I've got my zebu back.
tx - i may actually look that up - always been curious
trade you governments :0
i am going to check on the tuckpointers now
afternoon babblers
sorry, that was cruel....
hi seano
lol an urs is better???
is ok
cool icon, mab
tuckpointer sounds like someone out of Tolkien
yes - i will trade for a government where you can get affordable healthcare
marso - where are you?
as much as I dislike Tony Blair, I wouldn't trade our government for most others
I'd love to have UK's govt, but I'm sure they wouldn't want ours.
Liverpool England
& mab - i don't think that was cruel at all - i had a bumper sticker in my icon yesterday that i actually had on this car i owned - but if i hadn't already have had that picked out, i was going to go with:
BUCK FUSH
yeah but r gov is only good with sorry to say but immigrants
ditto!!!
tuckpointer sounds like one of the fairies in A Midsummer's Night Dream
I think that tony and W might be sleeping together. not completely sure....
they are certainly too close
give the country to us an we could run it better than tony
well - i must go check on my very masculine faeries then LOL
marso, I was going to go with a bumper sticker yesterday that said "Was Columbus a Terrorist or an Illegal Alient?"
they do seem to be quite friendly...
hi Ch and Marso
lol mayb tony could answer that for u lol
and Mab and Une
hi abe :)
hey abe!
tony looks at W the way nancy reagan used to look at ronnie - sort of dreamy-eyed
ewww he does. its disgusting!
oh, it's cute...poor little dubbie will never have Tony's length of time in office
God forbid . . . he's done enough damage to last many lifetimes already
i've lost it: i'm typing babble words into my work database. yikes
Okay, I'm now down to 100 words to find. Time to go blackberrying. BBL. Happy Babbling!x
but really, tony is not so bad, our govt just ruined him by unilaterally deciding to start a war and then expecting the UK to be there. What coud he do. ok. I'm stopping now.
une, just reading about our pr** gives me a stomache
bye jac :) still waiting fo t!!!
happy blackberry picking Jacula!
jeez, i know, annie
but tony didn't have to asslick *quite* so sycophantically
Hello again folks, back again after computer freak out!
wb becca :)
Our pr** has the power to even ruin a perfectly good babble morning....maybe there are WMDs hidden in the grid...OMG I am losing it, I must stop!!! arrrggghhhhhhh
hobbling off to fix breakfast--BBL
my tuckpointing faeries are hard at work & tell me all is going well :)
bye une
Hey marso
what have u done une?
well, ata, on behalf of the u.s., i do apologize for the war....
lol annie !!
(broke my ankle 2 weeks ago)
you know, there may be some who do not appreciate your Bush bashing. you have the right to your opinion, but for the last couple of daysi t's gotten worse around here. our government may not be perfect, but ask any immigrant to compare.
zeet
or IEDs!
Hi torgone!
i am with mab - and i agree too, too much damage has been done
ty torgone :)
zeet to you too, torgone :)
hi torgone!
bigbird, it is not the government I complain about, it is our leader...
bigbirdboss - perhaps you ought to look up the word 'bashing' in the dictionary - no one was bashing here at all
*sigh* Bush and Blair should be dropped into Iraq with no food and no shelter and left there
our leader was chosen by the people...accept it
Any of our Floridian friends about?
that's brilliant ata!!!
oh sorry there - figures - sw texas - overly sensitive HAHAHAHA
atalante, I heart you, hear! hear!
Yes, Bigbird, there may be some who don't tlike the Bush-bashing, but there are more of us who simply don't appreciate the Bush, period. And the chosen by the people business - ever heard of Florida?
southeast Texas.hurricane rita
no - bbb - the vote was pretty much 50/50
luckily we live in democracies where we *can* complain about our leaders!
he was elected, right?
And the court gave it to him and
As difficult as it is at times, I think it's important that we all respect each other's right to free speech -- both pro and con and every issue. That's one thing that makes this Babble community so rich, is our diversity! :)
am7/32 both clues anyone?
We don't have that excuse - more people voted on Big Brother/Xfactor than voted for the government - sad or what?
love your icon, shorty!
I agree ch
well said ch :)
thx :)
true jfb
bbb- if he was elected is debateable - that he is an irresponsible moron who has caused the deaths of thousands of young people is not!
and yet - as bbb says - he still has a huge fan base ...
the long and the short of it is that we can criticize till the cows come home - we can't change anything right now. Bush is in power and that's the way it is
30% is not huge
so does Paris Hilton, Ata
more people in the u.s. know the names of the seven dwarves than know the names of the supreme court justices.
wooohoooo well said helen :)
am7/36 clues plz
lmao amanda :)
yes ata - frightening & uncomprehensible to me
agree!!! helen
sorry, shorty - I don't have it yet.
Scalia, Thomas, Alito, Chief Justice Roberts, Kennedy, Ginsburg, Stevens, Souter, Breyer
n 80 year old man once said that it doesn't matter who wins the election the government always gets in! Very philosophical!
and dopie
bush is an idiot- is there anything else to say?
Shorty -I don't have them yet
well done, douglas
sleepy, dopey, grumpy, doc
doc, bashful, dopey happy grumpy sneezey
good quote, jfb!
no there isnt bb
douglas - you must go spread the word now :)
morning babblers. floridian here. bush is the illegal president.
I think a lot of people have stopped voting cause they don't see any changes for the better. Kinda feel like bashing head against wall to get rid of a headache
hey, mama, congrats on dodging Ernesto!
am7/32= am+a girls name or hurricane(drop the i double the vowel) for the 8-plural
I think you're right, hootowl
well done, by the way, douglas :)
thanks. it's the storm that wasn't. dh got off work because of it though.
I think it would be interesting to ask those serving in the military their opinion.
forget it......helenkeller, you look up bashing...verbal abuse
Let the record show that I actually did remember them, I didn't look it up just now...
the girl's name is Ms. Moreno's first name
or Lovely **** Meter Maid . . .
Verbal abuse is when you use surrulous names - not when you tell the truth
scurrulous!
i was not being abusive & up to the point when you joined in the conversation no one else was either - i think it was your knee jerk -reaction that caused the rest of this antagonism
mama--the storm that wasn't? you don't know what you're talking about
can't we all just get along?
Thanks all for the am clues
sorry all - that last comment was directed at bigbird
so is bashing saying their are wmd- or is that just slander?
most of us do, HiThere
and not when you discuss ... I can't see anyone from babble not listening to another's opinion, even ifthey don't necessarily agree with it
agreed, helen
depemds on whos saying it. Not one forund
found
ty mab
that's just plain 'ol lieing - lying? - beebee
Just think how boring it would be if we all thought alike - or worse - if we couldn't express different opinions'
noone is going to change anyone's mind here...there are plenty of political blogs you can go to to discuss.
Well, it bugs me when everyone starts on this topic. I just usually tune it out. Everyone including bigbird is entitled to their opinion and I'm entitled to roll my eyes and lurk.
exactly JFB!
not sure what you mean, bigbird. i'm sitting where the eye is supposed to pass later today. been here 36 years. ernesto isn't anything compared to others.
bbb- the storm that wasn't? i'm confused on your comment cause i far as i tell ernesto isn't much
Hi Smithchick and mama and beebee
Smithchick - may I lurk with you?
Hey abe...
hey abe
you mentioned rita...the storm that wasn't
Yes, Becca...let us lurk together!
no bbb- we were referring to ernesto
I'm over 2*2*2*2*2*2 words! Woo-hoo!
*sneaks around pretending she's not here*
sorry. une made a comment about dodging ernesto and i was responding to that. rita was certainly bad.
President Bush read 60 books this year, including "The Stranger" by Albert Camay, the noted French philosopher and soapmaker...
going off at a random tangent about things called ernesto - has anyone else here seen "The Motorcycle Diaries" film, about Che Guavara? I saw it the other day, and its the most wonderful thing!
you bad, douglas....lol
hey ppl
Becca Lorum I'm sneking too
fun fact: did you know that if you type "failure" into the google searchbox the first hit is a biography on Mr President Bush?
Gee - isn't he too busy to read that many books? Did he understand it?
Haven't seen it yet, atalante, but it's on our 'must see' list
I've seen it Ata -I agree it's brilliant
a thug off my estate has just been shot!!!!
atalante, yes, I saw that film, it was wonderful!
i'm with you Becca
Or even sneaking!!
rae- LOL
police everywhere right outside my house!!!!!
it's true...try it
isnt it fab, Annie! I just had it on cos there was nothing on TV, and I was soon absolutely entranced
smithchick - hi! what i find interesting is that people can't help but discuss these topics - all this conversation grew out of tuckpointing --> housing --> council estates --> goverment decision making ---> what is the phrase? eventually all roads lead to rome :)
ah, marso, big brother has been monitoring the babble chat -- now you're in for it! :D
I don't know...I don't think there's anyone requiring a book report of him...
Wow Marso - that's pretty scary
Hey, helen!
really omg i am sittin here watchin it all
hi smithchick
Drama at marso's! Hey Annie!
Maybe someone should, Douglas - it would keep him busy and away from the important stuff!
Been out so I may be repeating whats gone before but whats tuckpointing?
raghn
I think that's kinda true with most conversations among a group of intelligent and interested people - you always gravitate towards changing the world!
marso - thank goodness we had our earlier discussion on estates - lol - i'm trying to picture the scene now
marso what did YOU do now
atalante - exactly ! that's what i was trying to say
lmao herein!!! wasnt me !!!!
looks suspiciously at you Marso: sure it wasn't
It pains me to have to tear myself away and do some things that must be done, see you all later....
Don't forget to duck marso!
going to get my kids in out of the way
jfb - tuckpointing is repairing the masonry on brick houses - sometimes they just fill in the gaps in the mortar caused by erosion/weather & other times, like now, when my chimney are really bad, they must grind out alot of the old mortar & refill
Bye Annie
NOT GUILTY YOUR HONOUR
bbl folks with the jangle
bye all
Good idea Marso
Oh geez - as if CNN showing Bush in New Orleans wasn't bad enough, now they're showing Rumsfeld - time to turn off the TV before I vomit!

i have 45 left- i need all the help i can get
my partner just finished 16hrs work and his boss raided his dads wine cellar, i think the people at his work polished off about $1500 in wine, burbon and beer. 2 bottles were worth at least $500 each, no one drove home and the son will pay dearly tomorrow if dad finds out

Hi Sue - not really, just now there was a bit of a slowdown, but otherwise it's been fine
http://www.booktv.org/misc/081706_bush .asp is President Bush's summer reading list...
hi Sue!
Why does it always happen when I have a few minutes to spare? No - don't tell me! Hi Ata!
my word list isnt showing up...but it tells me I have 91 left to find...what is wrong?
Try refreshing Ouwachita.
yea mine shows the first word I entered but none of the others
the server just freaked Ouwachita

that happens to me all the time
I have refreshed twice
nothing works to fix it
I'm so there with you, helenkeller...I've read two books this year...
onyx/ ouwachita- can you get the link for Dr. God at the bottom of the page?
I have a booklist too but dang! Life keeps interferring!
i've e=mailed him before, his answer was to refresh
Ok..let's get real....we all know Bush either read the Cliff's Notes OR had someone read TO him...
no that's luxury...having someone read to you...
noter
oops
I didn't want to say that! Did he read The Cockroach?
Is it cheating if you use audiobooks? It is known that Bush uses an iPod for exercise purposes...
Then there wouldn't be anyone to explain the big words
Here are the books at the link I mentioned...Quick Red Fox by John D. MacDonald
but he would still need for someone to explain the books to him, wouldn't he?
Is that a primer?
The Dreadful Lemon Sky by John D. MacDonald
Sorry - meant to say the words
Those are mysteries aren't they?
ohhhhhhh- hoot said a word

Shucks I wanted to now if they planned on having us for breakfast
Challenger Park by Stephen Harrigan
I remember when I was in high school, we had a summer reading list. I wonder who assigned the list to Bush? Laura?
Probably her list to start with
well, she was a librarian wasn't she?
Flashman at the Charge by George MacDonald Fraser
Why smithchick? Because we read?
a children's librarian, I think
Where did they find these books? Never heard of half of them
which would be perfect, wouldn't it?
That would be about right
Well there you have it
sure would, lol.
If he kept it right side up

The link says it was provided by the White House press office, but I think there are more books on the list...
dang - i gotta git me one of them country-leading jobs so's i can have time to read these books too!
I love the idea of Bush sitting round reading Macbeth
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/arti cles/060817/17bushbooks.htm has a few more...

Cliffnotes for sure - if he reads those......

I was thinking you would find Bush's reading Macbeth to be ironic...
*highly* ironic!

I find the Macbeth hilarious - am still trying to come up with a smart-a** comment for it (not having much luck)
maybe i'll change my platform tomorrow - but for today, give me a country & i'll give you tuckpointing!
bilt- zo+ what makes a pearl(drop the y)
I find the idea of him reading ironic. Doesn't learn anything from them though

Greetings, fellow Babblers.. how goes the grid?
Hi Aloy. the grid is large and challenging, but fun

Hi Aloy!
Yeah, this is a pantload of fun ..
hi babblers - tough grid today, eh?
well, I don't see a volcano, but I do see a couple of old nuggets.. diving in.. (-:
But fun ..
HI Fiz
raelite is that zooboomafoo? (sp?)

yes it is!!!!! thanks for noticing!
hi abe. zaire?
I'm in love with Chris Kratt...I want to marry him and have his babies

lol rae! as long as they're not specimens for study...

lol Fiz
chris is the one on the left
what girl???
what girl?
of coures, rae - the cute one...
ms. hayworth or ms. rudner
no. I need the 7 and 8, not the 6 and 7
of course!
beebee, what girl?
good wednesday all!
The lovely meter maid
Change the spelling for Ms Hayworth's name to get the 7 and 8.
happy hump day stidmama!
Oh. Got it. Thanks.
hi stid!
Hi Stidmama and Vicuna
hiya stid
and vicuna
Hi Stid. What's a hump day?
Hello, all.
Nerd? lmj?
lol at lmj's icon!
Hi Vicuna. We are lost among meter maids at the present
hump day is wednesday - over the hump in the work week.
the hump in the middle of the week, Hetty -- it's all downhill to the weekend from here!
Fab icon Vicuna
ooh -- Fiz beat me to it.
Thanks, JFB. hetty, I'm parked in my driveway - the meter maids can't get me here!
great z words everyone!
Vi -- did you do that one, too?
lo, Stid, and rae and amandacath and anyone I missed while buried in the grid.. chat is going swiftly today..
hi Aloyisius!
Since retiring I've given up humps forever--it's TGIF every day
anyone need clues before i go clean the house?
Yes, I did, stidmama.
*jealous of hetty - looking forward to a dottage spent bagging groceries in a desperate attempt to maintain health insurance*
No, but will you come clean the house for me, beebee?
*bowing to Vi's artistic greatness*
i may have to get on the "Z" bandwagon
beebee i've still got 214 so thanks for the offer but i'm not ready yet.
You latecomers have missed a wonderful chat about Bush's summer reading--go browse for Doug's latest pedagogy
You are sooooooo clever Vicuna.
I don't plan on retiring. When I decide what I want to be when I grow up, it's gonna be something I don't want to retire from!
vi- no, i can't keep up with my own- always working on it never finishing :)
Aww, thanks, stidmama. You can get up now! :)
Don't worry Fiz - there now - They automatically enroll you and deduct it from your SS!
*now ROFL at Fiz's comment*
They hate to give you even your own money!
Like me, Stid, you'll join all those grousp you wouldn't want to join if you were in them
hoot i'm the perfect age to pay in for my entire working life just in time to have SS and medicare collapse when i need them. yay!
ooh, I found a herpes word! *grin*
You got it! 45 years down the tubes!
*hold hand out to keep stid at bay* please, i've made it this far without cold sores - stay back!
They will collapse before I am eligible -- ergo, I have no reason to assume any other "retirement *plan*" is stable...
Yes, Fiz, I am assuming there will be no SS or medicare for me, either.
oh! hootowl, it's you! I hadn't seen you in so long ... are you well? have missed you!
taos
is that your retirement plan, hootowl?
Nuts!!!! Wish it wouldn't do that!
=o
*frantically shoveling money and prescription drugs into mattress*
Whoa, Fiz! Those prescription drugs are awfully lumpy for sleeping on!
lol @ fiz
makes me feel like the princess and the pea, vi - i kinda like it.
Good morning all. Sorry I haven't been around but been traveling a lot and still adjusting to combining 2 households.
great Fiz, that'll go great with the money from your "emergency storm fund"!
(Caourse if you take enough, I guess you'll sleep no problem anyway...)
I still know lots of drug reps, I could get you some free samples, fiz
Why not Vi? If you work there'll be something - if not on hudbands
lol rae! thanks, i may take you up on that.
*calling travel agent and planning once-in-a-lifetime world tour* would you like me to send you a postcard or two, Fiz? ;-)
No, hootowl. I'm afraid it doesn't matter how much money my husband and I pay in. The baby boomers will have used it all up before it's our turn to have any.
Have had limited time mama so I do grid and go. Today I couldn't resist discussion so here I am and still 68 left!
sadly stid, you may only be able to cover your travel expenses there and back. i work in nonprofit...
and having just bought plane tickets to your neck of the woods it's no bargain!
I hve a mere 231 to go, hootowl -- haven't been finishing the bigger grids lately... chat is more interesting!
Of course, while we're in this vein, we may as well point out that long before that issue comes along, the terrorists will have blown us up, and if they haven't the global warming will have flooded us, and if that hasn't happened the fossil feuls will be gone and we'll be back to the dak ages, and if we avoid that the computers will have taken over and enslaved us all...
Vi I think that has been exaggerated but I understand. I was laid off 3 years before retirement age and had to to get money to live. # years made a BIG difference! And then they started taking it back!
we have more than enough fossil fuel we will never use it all
*sigh* I guess you're right *stashing the rolls of quarter back under flower pots* I wouldn't enjoy it anyway, all those "furriners" *replaces flower right-side up*
*Vicuna breaks down on her computer keyboard in a miserable shivering heap*
*scans barcode on forearm, plugs in back of neck to jack in wall* vi, sounds great to me - like living in bladerunner!
ZZZZAP! vicuna, that is just silly talk! Don't you know there is NO global warming? Technology will save us! *fingers crossed*
I saw a really interesting theory that says the earth's gravitational field is going to reverse soon and that all of this warming is perfectly normal
Except no one in command seems to know anything about technology except how to make money from it! :(
Yeah, I've seen some really interesting theories, too, raelite.
Raelite there have always been alternate warm & cold cycles but this is faster and more extreme.
yes rae, we've had a relatively stable climate for quite a long time, in geological terms - we are due for some sort of global climactic upheaval, human-induced or otherwise.
Hello. I'm back for the third and final time today!
the gravity thing would be really neat...warm places would be cold and cold places hot. everyone would have to get new compasses
hi becca - welcome back and good luck!
Nah! Just read them backwards
Thanks Fiz
lol
Now I'm back to the grid!
lol hoot!
So, umm, if necessary I can gather up those worms and start stuffing them back in the can, everyone!
the reversal of the poles won't affect gravity, it will just affect magnets... and for a short time the field that protects most inhabited regions from the more dangerous solar radiation would be unprotected.
Hi Becca!
Hi Stid! How's it going today?
*slathering on sunscreen just in case*
So, *Vicuna says innocently,* isn't it nice we have a Z in the grid here on Z icon day!
going well, Becca! It didn't rain here last night, so the work Tom is doing on the roof is still dry and he can put up the roofing tiles when he gets home from work... *fingers crossed*
teemer
yay for z! stid, your family is so multi-talented. i have to pay someone to do things like that - don't trust myself and *certainly* don't trust lauren!
Wow, he's doing the roof himself - I'd never let my fella on my roof. You nevr know what might happen! ;)
(Whaddya know, hootowl's word really worked!)
well, if I had money, I would pay someone to do it, Fiz! My Tom is a master at procrastination... had all summer to do this, but waited until I nagged at him last weekend to get a start!
it did? *rushes to enter hootowl's word*
ok, when i say "pay someone" i mean "put it off until the last possible moment before the house collapses around our ears". roof, new paint job, and blown-in insulation on the list - we're on a fierce budget for the forseeable future to be able to do it.
Yep, that sounds like my Tom, Fiz! LOL and crying at same time.
hey, check this out: http://galleryoftheabsurd.typepad.com/ 14/2006/08/japanese_paris_.html
okay rae, brb
*joins in stid's laugh/cry - dual-purpose te4s running down face*
hi everyone! : )
Rae - that's so funny!
lol I know!!!!
Hi TO

my heart are, indeed, thirsting for wishness to be like paris. thanks, rae!

hi TO!

ooh vi - now i have to go - BRB!

"argh" is so a word, pirates (and babblers) use it all the time!

No, Becca, be kind to your monkeys! The monkey that loves its master works twice as hard!
I give mine a whole half day off every other month!
Oh, OK Vi, I'll just glare at them, so they know who's boss!
i think i'm missing some ag's - i have the playwrite, the getting-older, and get along with. any hints/clues?
The ag7/8 combo is an inability to recognise objects Fiz
my monkeys would like to be in the garden more, but if I go out there, I am certain to try to weed, and then I will get hurt again. *must resist call of the sun and flowers*
hmmm. gotta think about that one, becca, thanks.

Hi Boreetos

i thought as much... i sing you some norah jones... "like a flower waiting to bloom... like a lightbulb in a dark room... i'm just sittin' here, waiting for you to come on home... and turn me on..."
hi Vic, Abe!
Hi all, may I please have a clue for the 9

*faints*
Hurshy, I'm going to go ahead and pretend that singing was for me. :)
am7 - the Hindu drink of immortality. am + prefix meaning again + ubiquitous volcano minus the n. Pl for am8.
*kneels over tor with smelling salts*
wisedoggy- clock on the top right corner of the chatlog- you can 'view ' it
pa9 - pl of pa8 meaning irrational fear
pa 8/45 - excessive anxiety! (pa 9/60 is plural)
thanks Vicuna and Dippnall, will look for them now
* I might need cpr....*
found the pa8 and pa9 right away with your great clues, thanks Vicuna and Dippnall
boreetos, dontcha just hate it when someone serenades you under your window... and then turns out to be at the wrong house!

i do indeed hate that, vic, that sucks the big one.
torgone, hope you are landing on a soft surface, otherwise you might hurt yourself 8-)
tor is turning into sleeping beauty... in a manly way of course... i shall have to be the princess who awakens him with a kiss

May I please have a clue for the re8 amidst all the birthday greetings
*kisses tor to wake him up*
I'm finding it tiresom ehaving to click on everyone's profiel to read their bumper stickers. Yours is a hoot, flosey, rewards the effort.
Birthday greetings Boreetos
These words aren't going to find themselves, now are they, peri!
hey seano! is that your son? (bringing him up well!)
i thought today's theme was 'begins with z'?
thanks hetty - have it on IM for my kids to get a chuckle
waiting , not very patiently for clue for the re8
re8 = re echo (like underwater).
Peri, if zI giv euyoiu a clue do you promise to stop badgering? re8 is what sound does in an echo chamber
good heavens, what is wrong with me... ge 5 assistance?
of course, his fave player...stevie g of course!, was his 5th birthday yesterday hence the liverpool cake!
re 8/40 - to sound out
er 7/28 please
hursh, I love your icon. I'm somewhat of a Dali fan myself.
*wakes up ready for more ..*
*pulls tor into the closet again*
Hursh, ge5 is like "quey serah, serah" with a g"
thanks boreetos :)
Well, I got a bit of good news today
fab, seano!
if you ever find yourself on LongBoat Key in Florida, check out the Salvador Dali museum there. It's fantastic.
HI Lady! what's the good news?
i cannot go to florida. too scary.
er7/28 - like being worn away by wind or water, but change second vowel
I get to keep my job through the end of Sep, instead of through the 15th
are you scared of tourists, or old people hurshy?
hey there hetty, you hurt my feelings, I was just asking for a clue and saw that my first attempt was overlooked due to the birthday salutations
well, don't go TODAY! but you know in the winter or something.
What are you two doing in that closet?
tourists, heat, reptiles...
best not to ask, hetty
that's great Lady, that gives you more time to look
torgone and i have a steamy affair, didn't you know hetty?
and two more weeks of health insurance
what did you need peri?
Sorry peri didn't mean to hurt your tender feelings. Do yuo have thge word noe? Re****ing in your head?
*Do you have the word now?
you needed some good news this week, Lady
I am looking for the re8 and have found re6/21 and re7/32, is the re8 along the same lines. and no hetty I don't have the re8 yeet
meant yet.
hetty, I am fine, you really didn't hurt my feelings, just thought your comment was inappropiate
peri, your frustration re******s with me some days.
O'K' Peri--to sing well you have t have a voice that re******s--means resounds
hetty was inappropriate? i find that hard to believe...!
guess i missed something
That hetty. She's such a troublemaker!
Well, what do you know, finally got that darned re8, thanks hetty and Charm
i thought i was the one being inappropriate in the closet with tor...
Kind of like s5/10 without the "r" and with a past tense of to eat ending
lucky hurshy:)
yw, peri
Entirely appropriate, hurshy. Please continue ...
As long as you keep the door well shut, we don't mind!
Oh good, so glad you have it peri. And I only make trouble for those I love best
hey, y'all had a chance... just cause i was the one to truly appreciate torgone's sterling qualities and snap him up...
have the ge7 but not the ge8, help please
I* have a vivid imagination--no need to expound on closet behaviour
hi, diurnal babblers!
ge8 is superlative, peri
peri - the most of that ge7
thanks Charm
and Vicuna
hi melon
yw yw
na6? (i am dumb today)
hey, abie baby.
Stupid perhaps, but not dumb!
ramp
empire
empires
so what's this ge7 i hear all the talk about?\
that's true, i am talking a lot...
na6 was clued as one na**** under god with a changed middle consonant
Just kidding. na6 is like country or state, with a diff consonant in the middle
oooooooooh - so sorry!
ty seano
na6/18 - something connected with the nose?
Chatter on, hurshy! :)
ge7 is more virusy or bacterial
come on, melon - at least some words I don't have yet. pleeeeease?
a na***** nose perhaps
thanks hurshy!
i keep seeing gamete!
I see 'gamer'
vampire
why no garam? if there can be naan?
pretzel
steerage
pretzels?!
and i feel that if you can disparage, you can parage
mitosis and meiosis
I swear I keep seeing prize
paragon is almost there
Certainly. And as I'm sorry for disparaging you a minute ago, hursh, I will now parage you: Hurshy's so smart, witty, entertaining, and kind to animals!
these PRETZELS are makin me THIRSTY
ampere
paradiddle isn't
amperage
ha6/24 please
lol, thanks vi. and tor can parage my kissing skills
ha6-24: a bunch of wives, but double the vowel
peri, like the Lakers basketball player diagnosed with AIDS -- only with an h
armoire
ha6/24 - I assume an alternate spelling of the ha5
ha5/14 with an extra 2nd vowel
ha6 = alt spelling of the many wives of the sultan.
(or rhymes with abdul-jabbar's first name
well everyone, thanks again for the warm b-day wishes. I'm out, I hope everyone has a great rest of the day! Hope to see you all tomorrow!
thanks Vicuna and Dippnall and Charm, found it
and I don't mean lew alcindor!

color me im7 that you found that british past tense on your own!
and then make the last letter a vowel instead.
come on, that's no word! (thaks hursh)
thanks hurshy
is the se7 normal or weird?
na7 please
se7/32 is wierd to me
na7 = more dirty, ewwww
why isnt "asian" a word?
thanks Charm
proper noun (i know, i know, ge6 - it must have some other meaning)
clue vi?
proper noun lady
Vicuna is it possible to clue the se7
se7/32 - some bird. Start with TV se----, remove the s and add Laura Ingall's mother
thanks, vic
speaking of whom - one of her finest moments was on last night... in the episode where pa tells laura and almanzo they have to wait 2 years to get married...
ge6 is not only from a European nation, but also a geneology term meaning having the same mother and father
ewww gross
oh, no, i see
my sister and I have the same mother and father....
like me and my brother are ge*****
then you're german!
oops
forgot myself
I am going around in circles about the re 8/40. Cant find it. Any help?
there might be some germans who'd be surprised to know that....
so like almost everyone is ge6!
and we're all hussites!
re8 - to echo/sound out
re8/40 - re + the word meaning underwater echoes minus the r + first two letters of non-coffee hot drink
Dipp, can you clarify?
Talking of being german, my mother married my husband's fat her and our children were very worried for a while
you husband's fat her, hetty?
ooooh nvm
thanks Vicuna
*father
hetty's husband has an obese mistress?

wisedoggy, it's a type of bird, starts like world se***s of baseball and ends in another word for mother
so7 - blacker with chimney deposits
What Was Laura's mother's name?
Caroline

Not her name, Scrabbler, but what Laura called her.

Massachusetts represents :)
That's wonderful, inge! I have a friend from Southern Germany with similar sensibilities -- she is, as we say, 'charming'.

where will you be moving ch1212?
We will be living in either Athol or Orange, I think about 80 miles from Boston?
oh, it's quite nice out there, and less expensive.
What is your weather like?
Try Petersham, near Orange, if you can. Lovely very rural
hmm. where are you from?
I would liketo boost everyone's BSE (Babble Self-Esteem) by reporting that I still have to find 186 words.
South Central Idaho --- high desert, very hot and dry in the summer, very cold and snowy in winter.
Ok, it will be not quite as cold and windy, and much much more humid int he summer
scrabbler said a word?
snow is very variable since global warming set in last 15-20 years
I didn't even realize it--TY
much more bugs here too!
ah, humidity... I lived in Hawaii as a young girl and loved the humidity. Have also lived in Portland, Oregon and along the coast where it is quite humid. I am looking forward to that! Not looking forward to missing Babble for the week we are taking to drive there, in early September.
I'm feeling much better about myself now
Bugs? !!! BUGS? What kind of bugs?

Sept. is a great time to visit.
Mosquitoes...lots
But not in Sept.

dorens, you changed your icon again, is the chimp a Z word?
yes, that was my sister's favorite stuffed animal...it actually came up on google, but only people of my generations would recognize zippy!
which z do you need fran?
Crikey. Too many for me today, sadly - I'm visiting friends, so can't dip in - I didn't finish yesterday just because I didn't have the time. Still, how is everyone?
i'm done jbp, just here to clue
i thought it was curious george!
hey everyone!
fine matty...and you?
ah, my misunderstanding
hey helen!
hi matty!!
hi matty. how you doin'?
hi HK!
I'll take the zo clue please...
hiya dorens, fran et al
wow...helen, my husband had that car, in another life.. but it was a 77 I think
Hey, who has the fish and can smack me with it?
gadget, it rhymes with a popular blender brand
gadget, ii had another icon earlier, a hideous skin disease.
We went fishing today - Sarah caught a big blue fish, I caught a load of fluke, but the 8 year old with us made us throw them back. I'd love to have had fish tonight :D
you could smack us with a couple of them...it's been that kind of day
jbp has a handy grouper holder laurel
dorens - yep a person definitely had to have another life to drive that baby - vroooom, vrrrroooooommm
jdp, can you whack me with the grouper, please?
cool matty! too bad to you had to put them back!
I loved it!!! he replaced it with a porsche 944, and I did kinda like that one too.
laurel, you could have been smacked with fresh fish, but dorens let them go!
FIREWORKS! :)
okay folks, i have to do some laundry, be back in a bit
yay klaurel!!!!!
:( Doren! Why did you let the fish go?
yayyyy klaurel!!!
i mean matty let them go
dorens - geez, your guys has excellent taste in cars - i, on the other hand, replaced mine with the more practical (& less expensive) toyota celica - 12 years i've had that celica now !
i don't like to see them die (don't remember letting them go anyway, think that was matty, but who cares?)
oh, well, no fish for me
helen, there's a sportscar in your future, i'm sure of it
hiya everyone!
I have a minivan. :( And my hubby has a VUE
hey feather
hmm. anyone know the proper temperature setting for a pair of soaking wet sneakers in the dryer?
no, but thanks for reminding me....mine have been in the washing machine all day!
well, i got the pa 8 & 9 but i'm sure the government recorded my answer!!!!!!!
lol!
Hi everybody. Been working on the grid for a while.
oh, & looky, i passed halfway - mediocre once again!
ok, i give up...the first te 6/21 isn't teeman, so what is it? hi nef
featherbee; I usually put them on regular heat with some towels and a fet tennis balls
why tennis balls? to make it noiser?
hi, nef.
hiya feather!
hi HK!
no, they help dry them (and the towels) faster... I don't know; maybe they beat them up or fluff them better?
te 6/21 is more te4/5
hmm, i'll have to remember that!
hi, hk - do you ever sleep?
Hi Melon, Dorens and all
Or someone who te4/5s.
thanks dawn, now i KNOW i tried that twice....
ok, gotta go do bathtime.
say hi to the Flipper Club for me - now that it's back to school, i'm in the sack by 11 Eastern Time
don't forget - "Melon sez 'hi'"
(I'm supposed to be doing some "work" work, not babbleing; I'm addicted to this game and don't finish the stuff I HAVE to do for my different committees I'm on! Don't tell anyone I'm here, okay? ;)
here's a thing for all you people !!!!! you never, ever, ever wash your tennis/gym shoes, sneakers, whatever the kids are calling them nowadays - the reason is because the material comprising the sole (no longer just plain old rubber) has millions of tiny air bubbles in it for shock absorbtion & cushioning - when you get the soles wet, the moisture permeates the material & over time lessens the intended springy-ness of the sole
later feather
yes helen, that's true for the fancy and expensive ones, but what about the cheapies I get?
hey melon - funny you say that - i'm a night person, but i had to get up at 7:30 am - OMG - for tuckpointers coming to do my chimneys, then . . .
i don't wash my son's old sneakers - i keep vampires away with them.
lol melonhead
--& noone understands why i won't buy a house - it's all those pieces-parts.
----then?----
i got on babble & had to explain a few times to our overseas friends what tuckpointing was - this led to a discussion of different building styles there & here, council estates, local gov & finally bush/blair, and then----
clue for the first re5/14 pleeeease? its driving me mad!
The phantom words today outnumber the actual words-- parmesan and parents are at the top of the list though
anyone - what's the 3rd letter for the PAs that precede the 1st pa 4,5? is it pam****?
phantom word(s), gollywhopper(s)
and then i was actually, intentionally evil to a fellow babbler - first time ever :(
meteorites, too.
Gee, helen. What happened?
good evening everybody:)
oooooh, hk, bummer. was it a newbie getting snarky (no offense to newbies, please)?
Hiya
HelenKeller, as a nurse I have even resorted to washing leather work shoes in my washing machine when I've had bodily fluids gush all over them. I just don't put them in the dryer and let them aire dry instead. (Oh, and don't use bleach on them; that isn't so good for the leather either).
hi jeam. samantha, etc
clue for the first re5/14 pleeeease? its driving me mad!!
sam - i shouldn't repeat, but you can read the log sometime around 9am, i think -ahhh melon - that was the kinda sad thing - not a newbie, a really old timer, but hey, i gotta call em like i see em - mab agreed with me so i felt completely vindicated :)
ata--re + pesky insect ***t
sad. i come to babble to get away from politics.
I agreed too, helen :)

melonhead did you ever get an answer for those pa's? i need them too....horray atalante
Yeah, stay away from politics, but dive right into gossip
hoooooray ata!
well, apparently the tile stats are not correct because It says that I have 0 out of 6 A words, and I really have 7 out of who knows how many A words!!!!!!
words to live by, memento ;)
oooh dorens - it was i who introduced that - no harm intended there - actually i liked it for the twisted consonants - sorry to offend you
pae :)
ok, now I'm off to bed! night all :)
no, not at all helen. I LOVED it and said so, then someone else got offended
Helen said a WOOOOOORRRRDDDDD!
night atalante!
so8/45 please
shutter, you have none of the A words that start with that tile.
no Dorens i didn't - but it's time to pick up my boy from his dad's - the Great American Divorced Parents Wednesday Night Kid Swap.
good nite ata -tx for being there for me :)
and she complained that another person who liked it had no right cause she wa from a didffereent country...so it turned into a thing about freedom of speech? ("they hate us for our freedom")

dorens, compound word, what you put your elbow on when you drive
thanks....should have gotten that one
nef - i am going to think about your shoe problem - i used to work as a pedorthist & i remember this hospital issue coming up- gee, if only my memory cells would engage properly - but washing really ruins the integrity/longevity of shoes - i have to go mow the lawn soon, i will think on it there, but i seem to recall something that was helpful to folks in your situation . . .
yw dorens!

cath- nut is trying to make me look bad! as always!
yes, and it looks much more like my sister's i feel better now...thanks for remarking that the color was wrong!
nef - that always happens to me too - i am going to give you problem some thought - i seem to remember some helpful piece of advice - what it actually was, that's a whole nother thing
except he has fingertips
haha..don't you remember back to when yours did?
cath - she lies
well there is some discussion about whom zip belonged to...
i don;t lie
i still say zip is creepy, like the kind of thing i'd hide in a dark corner of rens house for her to find.
lol... i WAS adopted out of a family where there would have been 7 of us!!!
HK, I've now switched to crosstrainers for work. You ruin a pair or 2 of leather shoes and it starts to cost *a lot* of $$
one of my favorite photos of my sister has her hugging zippy, but of course it was black and white film
now girls!!!
But are you saying that you can't step in puddles in tennies?
i like zip
i would love zip
nut...u in one corner...ren...u in the other!
sure does nef!
dorens, what show was zip from?
*points closely at rens face* - i'm not touching you.
k...we northerners haven't the foggiest idea what zip is!!!
see what you did nut
so, how can people do cross country running?
nef - uh, yeah. time to grow up :) take care of your shoes & they'll take care of you, lol
i don't remember...was it a show? not everything was that commercial then...do you remember seeing himon tv?
cath, not my mom! he he he he (sinster sounding)
now we're in trouble and it is always your fault
sorry cath....a very beloved stuffed animal from the 50's
i'm the self appointed babblesitter girls!!! ;)
geez, can't have any fun at all (I really LIKE splashing in puddles when running!)
*runs around log waving arms in the air* - not my mom, yooooou can't tell me what to dooooooooo-ooooo
ahh... tks for making me feel young dorens!! ;)
hmmm...ren must be the eldest sister?
dorens - he was i believe an answer to the original today show's j fred muggs
ah, but you are young cath
*pbthhhhhhhhhhhh*
nef - those serious runners go through shoes like you wouldn't believe - for regular folks, your athletic shoes are good for 6 months tops- then soles are shot, but i know runners who replace every month or less
RAIN puddles, that is; NOT the types of puddles I *might* run into at work! (Thought I should clarify that)
and that is why mom gave nut away!
you're right!!!!!
lol....u girls are a riot!!!
oh, i got my fireworks..but between the burp sisters and zippy reminiscences, i forgot to say...
can't beat em ...join em.... *grabs a pillow and biffs it at nut*
yay dorens!!!!
LOL nut - i love the 'runs around log ' part hahaha
congrats zippy!!
get her cath
*hangs kick me sign on rens back* - sure we are cath
now if i could only remember what i had to do at work today...
CONGRATS DORENS!!! HOORAY!!!
wtg dorens !!!!
yay dorens! wtg!
Yay Dorens
*grabs dorens for a celebratory jig*
thank you, thank you.....<dancing away with zippy and nut too>
gotta go mow that lawn - bbl
bye HK!
bye helen
c ya helen! too dark here to mow
*jumps away at sight of zippy*
but REN likes zippy
go dance with ren then
bye hk! 8ppicks up her own beloved zip with the fingers amputated at the first joint* hey hey nut!
zippy is as creeepy as a collectible doll
oh, i wouldn't spurn you, nut, you were the first to ask for a dance! zippy can sit this one out
*runs away from dorens and owl*
bye temple
monkey lovers!!!
bye dorens!
awww... i think zippy's adorable!
(and he is not collectible, just my sister never got rid of him)
chimps are NOT monkeys
he is, he really is...but I haven't lived with him siince 1970
buncha monkey sympathisors, and banana eaters
has anyone had antonio as zorro for an icon today?
every time i enter a word my page is refreshing... anyone else having this issue?
sorry leslie...no
not having that problem leslie ann since at the moment i can't seem to find any owrds to enter
I'm having lots of issues, leslie, but that's not one of them

it is interferring with my lightning-fast word entry
not here either leslie... had a dream last nite my puter got a virus tho!
my monkeys all get drunk and pass out on the floor when i need help
cathy i told everyone earlier that i had a dream last night that there was an 868-word grid today
*no wonder* nut, try keeping the liquor cabinet locked.
well, good luck with your monkeys nut...but don't call them chimps! and good night everyone i am out
taking zippy with me too!
bye dorens!
no way, i kicked those drunken monkeys to the curb

hi, all
hi Angelsong!
any clues for the last pr6?
good thing, Scrabbler! (I hate being ill)
I looked at the store for ginger tea but could not find any--what brand do you have?
well I passed my goal which was 200 I have 202, that's all for now, see you all tomorrow
I actually do my own. slice fresh ginger root and boil it under the water starts to turn yellow.
So clever!
When I have a sweet tooth, I add a bit of sugar to the water and it makes a nice sweet drink that is as good cold as hot!
the last pr6 is what you paint on before the overcoat, and its an extension of the pr5 before it
Didn't know you could do that stid, I have fresh ginger. how much do you use per cup
yippee peri!
bye peri!
Hello Everyone I'm finally back to try and get my last 90 words for the day.
Oh, maybe four or five slices for a cup? __thin slices__ but I usually do about a quarter cup of root slices to a quart or so of water.
brb phone
re 7 don't get the earlier clue please
hey, faerie
hi faeriekae! : )
thanks stid, how do you store the ginger, I read somewhere to store it in sherry and that is what I have done, wonder how it would taste as a tea \
Hi Angelsong, TO, Peri, Bambam, Stid, Scrabbler and Une

pa 8 and 9 -- i could tell you but everyone is talking about me (looks over shoulder)
I have 4 of the 8's so far
i hear voices
if you are suffering from pa8 (and pa9 is the plural) then you probably suspect Big Brother is watching you right now!
paranoias
oh! thanks, all!
i need a less herpes-related clue for the zo6, and then i'm done!
especially Scrabbler, LOL! :-)
Oops......see we are looking over your shoulder, and I read this off of your list!
bam bam go up 3, turn left the down one and go diagonally
Bambam, it rhymes with bananas Fo***!
Bambam... to keep a list of personnel is to keep a RO****, change out for the Z
thanks aknitter! fireworks! .... and i have learned something new too!
YAY Bambam!
Yeah Bambam!
next time i see someone with a bad case of coldsores i can say hey zo6-mouth!
Gets a winner with herpes!
ewww gross
the first guy ever to achieve anything by getting herpes!
Nope, that's a different type of herpes, Bambam
**mental note -- nef knows far too much about herpes**
does anyone have the first re 5/14?
coldsores are caused by herpes simplex, herpes zoster are from chicken pox and also causee the shingles (that I hope no one here ever gets since it is very painful!)
hi kids - back for my last 64! *backs slowly away from nef*
Bambam, I'm a NURSE! :D
abe79.... a highly ***ulated **tion is not a very free country
go Fiz go!
What causes herpes herpes then?
HAHA ok Nef you're off the hook !
I've hadd too many patients over the years who have suffered from shingles
thanks Bambam!
herpes simplex B, stid. A=above the waist, b=below the waist
i though shingles was adult chicken pox
doh...should read down ...
isnt HSB an STD?
sure is bambam - i do some std prevention education as part of my job, that's why i know that stuff.
Shingles are the same virus that has laid in wait in the body from a case of chicken pox and it causes severe pain along a nerve when it's reactivated in an adult
we call it the gift that keeps on giving.
I had chicken pox as a child, and again as an adult when I was about 35
now called sti's (infections, not all are diseases)
I am so glad I don't have any of the herpes thingys -- except the chickenpox which I hope never comes back...
is anyone else bothered by the near-existence of the word "astonish" in the puzzle?
What do you do Fiz?
my boys were both vaccinated for varicella, one got a mild case of chickenpox a couple years ago, the other didn't. So I guess it worked for both of them.
evening all -- got a late start 160 more to go
hiv prevention education, nef - they call it "capacity building" but basically i help people get the info and training they need to be better at their jobs.
go pbr go!
zoser is chickenpox-- it lurks in the body & gets reawakened...
go pbr! you can do it!
zoster*
stidmama -- gonna try
I work in HIV/HEP C prevention
lib used a word gasp
shhh lib! that zo (spelled correctly) is in the puzzle!
lib that's the zo6! whoops!
That's an area that *I* don't get involved with at all
aprild - where in the world do you work?
oooops!
Hep C is a nasty one, just had a friend who's a haemophiliac go thru 6 months of chemo for that (got it from a dodgy blood transfusion)
I work for this countries first legal needle exchange
he got thru it really well but he was lucky
had shingles once-- aaarrrggghhh!
which country is that April?
oops, USA
where, april? so few states can keep them going.
Washington state
it's up for vote in MA...
we fight daily to keep it afloat
yeah there's one in sydney too, in King's Cross... i'm not sure how successful it is, to be honest.
I just try to give my kids the info they need to make informed decisions -- I know that so much they learn in schools and from friends is flawed. I don't know everything, but I know where to look for the info!
the most widely studied and controversial in the states
bambam your friend is lucky - the disease can be bad but the treatment is pretty awful too, and not highly effectively.
yeah it can be fatal so he was lucky
april - have a colleague here in RI who used to work for one in olympia - she sorta sniffs her nose at our little, conventional, fixed-site jobby here.
any site is a good site TheFiz
Stid that's all you can do... hope when they are confronted with these things they make good decisions...
I hope they never have to take advantage of needle exchanges and such... but I really hope if they do they will know where to turn.
FIZ, are you familiar with NASEN? (north american syringe exchange network)
bye everyone! see you tomorrow!
ciao TO
yeah, april - when i was an active site volunteer we got a lot of publications and info from them. but i haven't been active in a couple of years.
later TO!
bye Temple
I work for that company, they have two projects, NASEN and the parent company of that. I do street outreach and office work for NASEN
lib - there aren't any in MA right now, correct?
bye to!
right Fiz
maybe not legal ones Fiz
many states have underground exchanges
ps 8/45 pls?
april i admire you. (and good point - we used to ship syringes across the border under the table). I did outreach for about 5 years and got totally burnt. now i get paid much better to do a much cushier job. go figure.
pa 8/45...tired..
*looks left, looks right* I'd tell you but they might be watching, daisy...
daisy they're watching you!!! (that is a clue)
daisy- think of the voices in your head (or my head)
Fiz, I am sure that will be me someday too. It isn't easy doing outreach and I love love love it but I know I won't be able to do it forever. Thinking 'case management' uggghhhh
I am below 100, taking a break. Back in half an hour for storytime.
P....... will destroy ya
lol and here I am...a charter member of the Fox Mulder fan club...and I missed that??
does anyone have the first or second pa 5/12?
*shudders* nooooo, april, don't do it!
ty all :)
April and Fiz..... congrats on that line of work. I work for a big bank making rich people richer -- so I have nothing but admiration for your vocational choice
pa 5/12... a first-generation pokemon. probably not a good hint, but it's worth a shot.
gotta pay the bills (with zombie voice)
bambam feel free to make this solidly middle class person richer if you've got a little extra.....
pa 5/12 sounds like a place you love in the spring.
when all my kids (10,9,7) are older I will do something to help others too -- in the mean time i can just donate to good causes while i battle with the incredible cost of educating the kids and keeping the family fed
thanks for the clues Art!
my computer crashed so am trying to catch up with the chat I missed. I have a LOT of respect for you guys who do that
no problem.... i'm actually surprised any one of them worked... i'm not the best cluegiver
bambam, it is amazing what a 5 dollar case of water at a place that helps the needy does for morale
art begotti . . . must be a veggie tales fan . . .
wow! someone knows the name reference!
or a bag of socks
i hear ya april. after a while i just couldn't take having my regular clients disappear and never knowing if they were dead, in jail, or clean....much more of the first 2 than the second, sadly.
yeah i went to an orphanage in cambodia recently (my uncle was working there for a year as a volunteer helping them with their little farm) .... and bought them a few things for their music room and gave them a few dollars each.... it doesn't take much
just back from the library and picking up on the safe-injection site talk. There is a highly successful one in Vancouver which is saving many lives and turning many around, so of course it's in jeopardy because of our Bush-clone new Prime Minister.
lol. . . my husband and I have all the DVDs . . . even though we don't have kids :)
Fiz, if you see in the Washington news about a lady shot in the head in Tacoma Saturday night, I knew her....it is very difficult
very true bambam. and family volunteering is a good way to get your kids invested in their community, too - serving meals, sorting donations, easy stuff...
And Stid, as a parent I found that giving the kids all of the correct information, setting a good example and pointing them in the right direction (over and over again) and praying like crazy that they will make it through their teens okay was the best I could do. They are now adults and I *think* sometimes that we did fairly well.
jill, we are in AWE of the Van sites....
{{{{{April!}}}}} now my clients are the program staff - not much more functional than the clients but less likely to totally disappear or accidentaly OD.
yes was a good eye-opener for the kids, but this particular orphanage was quite well funded, they were all getting 3 square meals a day, learning music and dance, and going to school .... so the kids thought it was like a fun camp.... so the intended shock tactics failed miserably,,,, it was a very impressive set-up and in no small part to my uncle who teaches agriculture in high school in australia and took 1 year unpaid leave to go help them....
clients becoming staff is how it should be....true Harm Reduction at its' finest
we have a nascent van site - it's hard to make people feel comfortable in smaller communities, especially if staff and clients don't invest in building community support. we haven't had problems with law enforcement, though.
i really don't know how much longer the world can continue growing the gap between rich and poor....
it just gets wider and wider and wider doesn't it
phantom word...armpit
we are tight here with the community, except for some business owners that don't live in the neighborhood but want to make money off of it.

i'm waiting for the day when the rest of the world sends the bill to the US, instead of buying all their debt.... that is only a matter of time too.
after that i suspect people will think twice about paying $250,000 to join a posh golf club
What do you mean Bambam?
Ahhh1
the current wealth of the insanely rich is a short-term illusion in the bigger picture
the "rest of the world", bambam?
Believe me, Bambam, there are MANY poor people here in the US who would love to have a tiny bit of the pot also.
specifically china, japan, korea, india, and other countries that have stock-piles of US dollars they don't need, so they don't upset the applecart
brb - dad's on the phone.
the gap is definitely domestic too Nef, no doubt.
(so sad our president doesn't seem to know that nef)
well, he knows -- but cares?
your president is an idiot, there is no nicer way to say it... and the sooner he goes, the better for everyone, not only in the US
if you have a terminal disease in rhode island you can have a little bit of pot, nef.
Let's not spoil this place by getting into politics again today.

Otto and Owain had started out after lunch to tell their uncle Peter about all the strange goings-on.

In no time at all, it seemed (they walked quickly), they spied their uncle in the middle of a field, checking the readiness of the crop.
He seemed glad enough to pause for a moment, and met them in the shade at the edge.

yes, thanks, firefly - I have sweaters with that on the label!
He had dozens of questions, and kept saying, "Well, well!"
71 left...brain needs a reboot!
it's all the ones before that I don't have, firefly
"I thought I saw a strange bird over your fields this morning, but I was pretty busy. --Well, well!"
go hi there go!
hi hithere
all I have other than that are a violent ra**, what one did with the doorbell, home on the ra***, and an angled piece of material what persons in wheelchairs might use to get into a building, vehicle, etc.
"So Nan can see? Well, well!"
go hithere! you can do it!
ta, firefly - you've given me something to work on
jilli = last ra6 is a knife popular in shakespearien battles. mentioned a number of times in romeo and juliet.
He walked back with the children to tell Helena. She was sitting on the back porch, snapping beans with Inga.
jilli - only the first one comes before the cotton ones, but also you can make another ra with that one by adding an extra vowel at the end
Inga's eyes grew wider and wider and her hands sat on the pile of beans in her bowl.
Helena's hands kept automatically snapping beans and reaching for more...
thx Fiz - i got your ra6 clue!
Can anyone help with the gr7/40 and gr8/55 Thank you!!!
Sebastian came around the corner as the twins were describing Doris's recovery. He came up quietly, unnoticed, and listened to the tale about the vial and the gift.
speed - more and most like the fruit from which wine comes from
gr7 more like the fruits wine is made from

jilli - spell the cotton blend with double vowel instead of the existing ending - and plural
Helena, like Peter, had many questions. She was concerned about the shock for Ava and Adam, and was glad to hear they seemed to be handling these changes well.
Finally, her hands could find no more beans to snap and she sighed and stood up, "Boys, please tell your mother and father how happy I am for Nan and Doris. Harvest is upon us, so I am afraid I cannot prepare a large meal..."
down to 66 but stuck on re8/40 help pls/ty
may i have a clue for the 9 ? please
Otto interrupted, "Auntie, Mother said to let you know that with Doris feeling better, she and the other girls will be happy to come and cook for the harvest crew."

rennie - plural of pa8
glad to know i have company

"And Father said that since it looked like he wasn't needed, he and Andy could come help as soon as you're ready, Uncle," added Owain.
ren - it's a plural of a word that's associated with schizophrenia
The first am7,32
like, scared of lots of things, or over one thing in particular - over the top scared
the 9 is plural of the pa8!!!!
bubba - am+phonetic spelling of ms. hayworth or the lovely meter maid
Peter clapped the boys on their backs and said, "Well, well -- it seems this miracle happened just in time!" He laughed and kissed Helena on the cheek.
Got that one Thanks, Fiz, the other or first am7,32
"I'll be back for dinner, just going to hop across and talk to Paul about the harvest, then check the rest of the fields. When Daniel gets home from the village, will you let him know?"
bubba - they're both the same but 2 spellings of the name - the first has a double vowel, the second is a plural
And with that, Peter, Otto and Owain headed back for the little house at the very edge of the village.
i'm also missing the first re5/14 beside the re8/40

"Oh Mother! It was so beautiful -- I wanted to see all of it!" exclaimed the happy child, "And then I wanted to share it with you. What is it? What is it for?"
John winked at Anna and headed across to the park. Anna held her sleeping infant and rocked gently, listening to her niece. She started to nod off also.
Nan handed the plant to Cathy, who laid it on a piece of cloth on the table. She took the child's hand as she was accustomed, then paused.
"Oh Nan! It's going to take a while to get used to your being able to see!" They all smiled at this.
Cathy pointed at the roots, explaining that they were more than anchors for the plant, but also helped it feed.
125
the first re6,21 please

Nan's fingers traced the edges of the leaves as her father explained that they provided shade for the roots and gathered warmth from the sun.

that was a clue: re6 is to em4/5 again
"Oh!" exclaimed Nan, "And this is what you always want pulled up?"
Adam laughed, "Only because there are other plants we want to thrive. Dandelions take the space of those, and so we remove them."

Otto and Owain and Peter came in through the back door, and Nan ran to show them the flower. Peter's voice could be heard saying, "Well, well!" as proud as an uncle could be.
That is a word we've had before here; and I miss it everytime!

Paul stepped back to join them, an d Adam looked around the room.
"Well, well!" he said, in imitation of his son...
