luvmypom - yes, do let us know - i'll be sending healing thoughts your way - how old is sophie?
i almost did that one ml
Helen, yep. I called the breeder I got her from who had actually rescued her from another big breeder. She had a mom who had just whelped who was having trachea trouble from the pregnancy and Linda (the breeder) was having to hand feed 3 pups every 2 1/2 hrs.
Sophie will be 2 in Feb.
*hisssses at big, careless breeders*
luvmypom, i hope the specialist can help sophie.
I wanted a diff. one, but couldn't find a pic that showed it without saying what it was on the pic.
awww luv.... I'm sorry about your furbaby
Thanks for all the good thoughts. Hopefully they can do something. Linda said they sometimes can put rings in their trachea, so we'll see. I agree Ank!!
good luck, luvmypom!
My fingers will be crossed, Luv. Does your Soph have a middle name? Mine did.
Thanks everyone. :)
hat's off to linda - i did that with 4 little german shepherd puppies -their mom hemorraged badly & had to stay at the vet for 6 days - thanks in part to our other shephed buffy (- who did alot of licking!) 3 out of the 4 survived - but, boy was i ever sleep deprived!
Gosh, how hard.
luvmypom - oh no, so sad, she's not even 2 - i'm so sorry {{{{{white light all over sophie}}}}}
She's tired alright. But all of us moms know you do what you have to, right?
Thanks again everyone. I'll give her extra kisses tonight from all you who care. :)

any more help for the ce5?
as fond as I am of unusual or arcane or out of the ordinary units of measure... you'd think I'd have found that dratted word a long time ago.
ce5 CE + either/** + a consonant
ce + the first three letters of the actor's name who played Legolas in LotR or some pirate guy in PotV
thankyouthankyou!
I know little of the niceties of art, Atalante. Even so, that water color must have been painstakeing work. Very nice!
it was certainly very painful!
Do you go through a process akin to grieving when a project is done?
it tends to go 1) immediate delight 2) a few days of utter woe thinking the thing is no good and then 3) sadness that I'm not doing that thing anymore
Yeah. Then to start anew the process again.
yup!
Mornin' All
morning odin:)
Hey jean
Good morning/evening all.
good morning Haz:)
Mornin' Haz
Hello Odin - missed you the past couple of mornings.
My mother is in the hospital with high blood pressure and we all took turns staying with her as she has Alzheimer's and is extremely disoriented. an't rely on the overworked staff to watch her 24-7.
That explains it. It can't be easy for you to cope with that situation.
fireworks:)
Well done jean!
It can be frustrating as she is unaware she is even in the hospital. We answer the same questions hundreds of times a day...but the good news is she may be discharged today and once she returns home most of the disorientation is gone.
WTG Jean!
thank you Haz and Odin:)
It seems to be a common thing that taking patients from their home environment causes real problems. Hopefully she'll be better once home. But the answering of the questions - patience needed in abundance!
That is true Haz and thanks for noticing I was missing in action.
must away, sorry to read about your mum odin, good luck with it all:) bye everyone:)
TY jean
Bye jean - have a good day.
thanks Haz and you too
Odin, do you have brothers and sisters?
One sister who shares the responsibilities so my Dad can get some rest.
That's good - I have a friend coping alone with two elderly aunts who are deteriorating mentally. It's not easy for her.
That's tough. Being responsibile for both of them must be exhausting and is a huge task.
The two aunts live separately, my friend has a full-time job and tries to keep them going as well. One has taken to calling the police when she can't find things.....
She certainly has her hands full. I have my sister to help and so far no alls to the police or wandering about.
Well, I hope the situation with your mother improves and remains manageable for everyone.
Thanks Haz...once home she will be much better.
Good thing I got the beet at work and have had the time to be there.
The boot at work
And you can afford to be generous with all those begging letters..... Has mine got there yet?
Not yet Haz but I have been on the look out for it!
I suppose if you don't come up with the goods I can always write to David Beckham - looks like he'll have some cash to spare. Mind you, Victoria will have a whole new set of shops to visit....
Isn't that the truth...they were on tv last night and she seems to emit shopper from each and every breath she takes....he's certainly got $$$$$$$$!
They have money, but please, he looks okay, but when he opens his mouth and that squeaky voice comes out.....
I noticed that too...what's up with that?
Morning all They are both need elocution lessions!
Good morning FMitch!
Mornin' FMitch ...you are right about that.
he does have a lovely smile tho
Victoria features in lots of magazines over here, but she looks SO miserable all the time.
His looks are movie-star, his voice is silent movie-star.
Miserable because she is having to keep the women from him?
i always think she'd be a lot happier if she ate a bit more
I think she looks miserable because she is always thinking of herself as a fashion model - and they usually look miserable as well.
Can't be easy livin' in the limelight
They LOVE the limelight.
THere is a clause in every modle's contract that they will not smile or look like they are enjoying gthemselves! scary love the icon, is he yours?
Yes the seem to bask in it but it has to take its toll on both of them
it must be difficult not being able to have a slobby day just in case any one sees you
fmitch - yes my baby, that was his 2nd birthday back in June came 4th in his class
He is georgeous, has he finished growing? How many hands?
From what I know of FMitch's dressing habits, slobby days are few and far between - she and hydra were sharing fashion secrets yesterday.
Tracksuits and fingerless gloves are the new power suits.
Nothing gets by you Haz!
I bred him myself, hes pure arab about 15hh now and shoudl make 15'2
It conjured up a great mental image yesterday, Odin!
LOL Haz I am a little more co-ordinated today as Ihave a client coming round this morning
I bet it did Haz...fingerless gloves and tracksuits...I haven't seen it in south florida yet but...I'll watch for it when I am in Boca where fashion is essential
must go - boss has just given me some work to do!! c u later
later deb
Bye scarydeb
We may laugh, but who knows, some fashion designers may be listening in and thinking 'Hmm, a new trend'
They must get their inspiration from all sorts of places. I'll be keeping an eye out on the cat-walks next season.
Watch for flip flop hsoes with the outfit in south florida
shoes...can't type today
Fip flop shoes and fingerless gloves. Paul Simon could probably do something with that lyric, let's hope the fashion designers DON'T pursue the concept.
The only people that see me like this is the postman and any passing burgulars.
good morning everyone
Mornin' JMann
Good morning JMann!
how is the grid today?
It's pretty nice so far, JMann.
ne5?
thanks haz
ne5 - n plus a reworking of what actors play on stage
thankyou
You're welcome.
Didn't have that one...ty Haz
Truth to be told, I didn't either until Alex asked!
well then by all means - keep asking Alex
i dont play this to get all the words, i just do it for fun
i dont like weird words
A good attitude to have, Alex.
any other good word puzzle websites?
Must take a break -daughter's car to be talked about at the garage. Some weird words needed for that.....
Later Haz
Bye Haz probably see youlater
bye haz
morning everyone, bye Haz, see ya later
welcome pida
Mornin' pida
Nice short grid, today. Found your icon right away, Odin, but not much else jumped out. Is it as tough as it looks?, or am I just not awake yet?
Pretty easy
Not as bad as I thought...strange letters but I found half of the words quickly and have 8 left.

well, I'm self employed and usually work at home... sometimes it's not easy to keep the discipline going...
Yes, mousey, they are my "children".

I read you've had a pretty rough time with little ones scrabbler?
Lots of sick kids at this time of the year--respiratory illness season
that's not nice to witness with small kids
I have a head-full of "bad" experiences from my career, and some true blessed ones too. I am thinking of writing a book.
i have a dog with one of those little lamp shade things and 5 stiches in her back
A book? That would be an interesting read.

A favor to ask, if it's possible. I am in China and they will not let me open Lickety here. Is there such a thing as one of you copying the list on to a word document and emailing it to me? I've tried to do it the last two days without a list and have not been able to finish it. Gets discouraging and wastes too much of my time here. I have to squeeze in bits and pieces of free time.

Today is Einstein's birthday. He would have been 107. Few people remember that the Nobel Prize winner married his cousin, Elsa Lowenthal, after his first marriage dissolved in 1919. He stated that he was attracted to Elsa because she was well endowed, and postulated that if you are attracted to women with large breasts, the attraction is stronger if there is a DNA connection. This came to be known as Einstein's Theory of Relative Titty. Oh be quiet - - - I didn't write this I just passed it on!

Mexican Oysters A big Texan stopped at a local restaurant following a day roaming around in Mexico. While sipping his tequila, he noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, the smell was wonderful. He asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?" The waiter replied, "Ah senor, you have excellent taste! Those are called Cojones de Toro, Bull's testicles from the bull fight this morning. A delicacy!" The cowboy said, "What the heck, bring me an order." The waiter replied, I am so sorry senor. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early tomorrow and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delicacy." The next morning, the cowboy returned, placed his order, and that evening was served the one and only special delicacy of the day. After a few bites, and inspecting his platter, he called to the waiter and said, "These are delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday." The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied sorrowfully, "Si, Senor. Sometimes it is the bull that wins.
there was a blond woman in Michigan who was following a truck. As they stopped at a stop light she ran out of her car and up to the truck driver. Sfhe said "hi my name is sally and you are loosing part of your load" The truck driver looked puzzled but kept moving on. At the next stop light she ran up and said the same thing. The truck driver was stil puzzled. Then at the last stoplight as she was running up to him he roled down his window and said" Lady my name is jerry and this is michigan, it is snowing and I am driving a salt truck"

Explaining the Buffalo Theory "Well ya see Buddy, it's like this....A herd of buffalo can only move As fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the Slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This Natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed And health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of The weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only Operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we All know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and Weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer Eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more Efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

a father and son were walking through the park when they saw two dogs "doing it" the boy asked his father what they were doing and the father said that they were making puppies. The little boy was pleased with this answer. A few weeks later the little boy walked in on his parents "doing it" and asked what they were doing. The father said that they were making a baby. The little boy said " well, I dont want another baby, flip her over and make a puppy"

A man takes his wife to a restaurant to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.During the meal she notices that he keeps looking at a good looking blonde woman sitting at a table nearby. Not unnaturally she gets fed up with this and asks him why he keeps looking at the woman. 'Well dear' he says 'I used to go out with her before I met you. Its very sad but after we parted she started to drink too much and still does.' His wife replied ' Thats a very long time to keep celebrating'.

Many aspects of human sexuality are very puzzling. Take celibacy. This can be a choice in life, or a condition imposed by environmental factors. While attending a Marriage Encounter Weekend, Bill and Mary listened to the instructor declare 'It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other. He addressed the men. "Can you each name and describe your wife's favourite flower ?" Bill leaned over, touched Mary's arm gently and whispered, "Self raising, isn't it?" Thus began Bill's life of celibacy.
Thanks for the laughs. I popped back in at just the right time! Now back to the grid before I go to work.
there was a brain transplant surgery center that had an oversttock on brains. They decided to have a clerance sale. There were several people there that day and the main doctor was explaining the pricing. He said that the male brains were !1500 and the womens brains were $750 all the men looked around and tried not to smirk. When someome asked finally why the price difference, the doctor said, "well, the female brains are actually used"

Paddy and Mick are walking home after a night on the beer. They've got no money to get a taxi, and are staggering all over the place when they find themselves outside a bus depot. Paddy says to Mick, "get in there and steal a bus so we can drive home and I'll stay out here and look out for the police." Mick duly breaks into the depot and is gone for twenty minutes, while Paddy is wondering what the hell he is doing. Eventually Paddy sticks his head around the door, and sees Mick running from bus to bus looking very worried."What in all hell are you doing, Mick, get a move on!" To which Mick replies," I can't find a number 7 anywhere Paddy." Whereupon Paddy, holding his hands to his head in disbelief, shouts,"You idiot, Mick, steal a number 9 and we'll get off at the roundabout and walk the rest of the way!"
thats funny
An Irishman, Englishman and Scottsman go into a pub and each order a pint of Guinness. Just as the bartender hands them over, three flies buzz down and one lands in each of the pints. The Englishman looks disgusted, pushes his pint away and demands another pint. The Scottsman picks out the fly, shrugs, and takes a long swallow. The Irishman reaches in to the glass, pinches the fly between his fingers and shakes him while yelling, "Spit it out, ya bastard! Spit it out!"
funny, garden
garden girl that is good one
this is fun
My mother was a fanatic about public restrooms. When I was a little girl, she'd take me into the stall, show me how to wad up toilet paper and wipe the seat. Then she'd carefully lay strips of toilet paper to cover the seat. Finally, she'd instruct, "Never, NEVER sit on a public toilet seat. Then she'd demonstrate "The Stance," which consisted of balancing over the toilet in a sitting position without actually letting any of your flesh make contact with the toilet seat. That was a long time ago. Now, in m y "mature" years, "The Stance" is excruciatingly difficult to maintain. When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place. Once it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied. Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall. You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter. The dispenser for the modern "seat overs" (invented by someone's Mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty. You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there were one, but there isn't - so you carefully but quickly drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!), yank down your pants, and assume "The Stance." In this position your aging, toneless thigh muscles begin to shake. You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold "The Stance." To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the empty toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mother's voice saying, "Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!" Your thighs shake more. You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday the one that's still in your purse. That would have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible. It is still smaller than your thumbnail. Someone pushes open your stall door because the latch doesn't work. The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet. "Occupied!" you scream, as you reach for the door, dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly onto the TOILET SEAT. It is wet of course. You bolt up, knowing all too well that it's too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper -- not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try. You know that your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain, her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, "You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get." By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a firehose that somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too. At that point, you give up. You're soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You're exhausted. You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks. You can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women, still waiting. You are no longer able to smile politely at them. A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe. ( Where was that when you NEEDED it?? ) You yank thepaper from your shoe, plunk it the woman's hand and tell her warmly, "Here, you just might need this." As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used and left the men's restroom. Annoyed, he asks, "What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?". . .This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with a public restroom. (rest??? you've got to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked question about why women go to the restroom in pairs It's so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse and hand you Kleenex under the door
A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done. The monsignor replied, " When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip." So next Sunday he took the monsignor's advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon his return to his office after the mass, he found the following note on the door: 1) Sip the vodka, don't gulp. 2) There are 10 commandments, not 12. 3) There are 12 disciples, not 10. 4 )Jesus was consecrated, not constipated. 5) Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass. 6) We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C. 7) The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook. 8) David slew Goliath, he did not kick the crap out of him. 9) When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass. 10) We do not refer to the cross as the "Big T." 11) When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper he said, "take this and eat it for it is my body." He did not say " Eat me". 12) The Virgin Mary is not called " Mary with the Cherry" 13) The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, Yeah God. :)

Two Scots, Archie and Jock, are sitting in the pub discussing Jock's forthcoming wedding............ "Ach, it's all going grand," says Jock. "I've got everything organised already: the flowers, the church, the cars, the reception, the rings, the minister, even ma stag night... Archie nods approvingly. "Heavens, I've even bought a kilt to be married in!" continues Jock. "A kilt?" exclaims Archie, "That's braw, you'll look pure smart in that! "And what's the tartan?" Archie then enquires. "Och," says Jock, "I'd imagine she'll be in white..."
can't think of a good clue but it is ro and 2 consonants

Sister Mary Katherine entered the Monastery of Silence. The Priest said, "Sister, this is a silent monastery. You are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until I direct you to do so". Sister Mary Katherine lived in the monastery for 5 years before the Priest said to her, "Sister Mary Katherine, you have been here for 5 years. You may speak two words." Sister Mary Katherine said, "Hard bed." "I'm sorry to hear that," the Priest said, "We will get you a better bed." After another 5 years, Sister Mary Katherine was called by the Priest. "You may say another two words, Sister Mary Katherine. "Cold food," said Sister Mary Katherine, and the Priest assured her that the food would be better in the future. On her 15th anniversary at the monastery, the Priest again called Sister Mary Katherine into his office. "You may say two words today." "I quit," said Sister Mary Katherine. "It's probably best", said the Priest, "You've done nothing but complain since you got here."

CE 5 -- uses the same letters as the end of the ne but in a differnt order.
This Irish guy shows up in a pub one day and orders three pints of Guinness. He takes sips from each glass until they are empty and calls the bartender for three more. The bartender says, "hey, pal, I don't mind bringing one at a time, then they'll be fresh and cold." "Nah... ahm preferrin' that ya bring 'em three at a time. You see, me and me two brothers would meet at a pub and drink and have good times. Now one is in Australia, the other in Canada and I'm here. We agreed before we split up that we'd drink this way to each other's honor." "Well," says the bartender, "that's a damn good sentimental thing to do. I'll bring the pints as you ask." Well, time goes on and the Irishman's peculiar habit is known and accepted by all the pub regulars. One day, the Irishman comes in and orders only two pints. A hush falls over the pub. Naturally, everyone figures something happened to one of the brothers. A bunch of the regulars corner the bartender and finally persuade him to find out what happened. With a heavy heart, the bartender brings the two pints and says, "Here's your pints... and let me offer my sincerest condolences. What happened?" The Irishman looks extremely puzzled for a moment. When the light comes on in his head, he starts laughing. "No, no! 'Tis nothing like that. You see, I've given up drinking for Lent."
Memorial Stone A woman's husband dies. He had $30,000 to his name. After everything is done at the funeral home and cemetery, she tells her closest friend that there is none of the $30,000 left. The friend says, "How can that be? The widow says, "Well, the funeral cost me $6,500. And of course I made a donation to the church. That was $500, and I spent another $500 for the wake, food and drinks, you know. The rest went for the memorial stone." The friend says, "$22,500 for the memorial stone? Great scott woman, how big is it?" The widow says, "Three carats."

Paddy staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking Buddy, Mick. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Brigid. He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their Upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the bottom step. As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful. Managing not to yell, Paddy sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt cheeks were cut and bleeding. He managed to quietly find a full box of band-Aids and began putting a Band-Aid as best he could on each place he saw blood. He then hid the now almost empty Band-Aid box and shuffled and stumbled his way to bed. In the morning, Paddy woke up with searing pain in both his head and butt and Brigid staring at him from across the room. She said, "You were drunk again last night weren't you Paddy?" Paddy said, "Why would you say such a mean thing?" "Well," Brigid said, "it could be the open front door, it could be the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly... -------it's all those Band-Aids stuck on the hall mirror."

THE POTATO Well, Girl Potato and Boy Potato had eyes for each other, and finally they got married, and had a little sweet potato, which they called 'Yam.' Of course, they wanted the best for Yam. When it was time, they told her about the facts of life. They warned her about going out and getting half-baked, so she wouldn't get accidentally mashed, and get a bad name for herself like 'Hot Potato,' and end up with a bunch of Tater Tots. Yam said not to worry, no Spud would get her into the sack and make a rotten potato out of her! But on the other hand she wouldn't stay home and become a Couch Potato either. She would get plenty of exercise so as not to be skinny like her Shoestring cousins. When she went off to Europe, Mr. and Mrs. Potato told Yam to watch out for the hard-boiled guys from Ireland. And the greasy guys from France called the French Fries. And when she went out west, to watch out for the Indians so she wouldn't get scalloped. Yam said she would stay on the straight and narrow and wouldn't associate with those high class Yukon Golds, or the ones from the other side of the tracks who advertise their trade on all the trucks that say, 'Frito Lay.' Mr. and Mrs. Potato sent Yam to Idaho PU. (that's Potato University) so that when she graduated she'd really be in the Chips. But in spite of all they did for her, one-day Yam came home and announced she was going to marry Tom Brokaw. Tom Brokaw! Mr. and Mrs. Potato were very upset. They told Yam she couldn't possibly marry Tom Brokaw because he's just....... Are you ready for this? Are you sure? * * * * * * * OK! Here it is! * * * * * * * * * * * A COMMON TATER

2 c's left - ce 5/12 and cr 5/12 (one before the christian symbol)?
Can you read these right the first time? 1) The bandage was wound around the wound. 2) The farm was used to produce produce. 3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse. 4) We must polish the Polish furniture. 5) He could lead if he would get the lead out. 6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert. 7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present. 8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum 9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes. 10) I did not object to the object. 11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid. 12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row. 13) They were too close to the door to close it. 14) The buck does funny things when the does are present. 15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line. 16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow. 17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail. 18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear. 19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests. 20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend? Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on. English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. PS. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick" You lovers of the English language might enjoy this There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is "UP." It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so............ Time to shut UP.....! Oh...one more thing: What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night? U-P

A touching elephant story While on holiday in Kenya and walking through the bush a man comes across an elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seems distressed so the man approaches very carefully. He gets down on one knee and inspects the bottom of the elephant's foot only to find a large thorn deeply embedded. As carefully and as gently as he can he removes the thorn and the elephant gingerly puts its foot down. The elephant turns to face the man and with a rather stern look on its face, stares at him. For a good ten minutes the man stands frozen - thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant turns and walks away. For many years after, the man often remembers and ponders the events of that day. Years later the man is walking through the zoo with his son. As they approach the elephant enclosure, one of the elephants turns and walks over to where they are standing at the rail. It stares at him and the man can't help wondering if this is the same elephant. The man climbs tentatively over the railing and makes his way into the enclosure. He walks right up to the elephant and stares back in wonder. Suddenly the elephant wraps its trunk around one of the man's legs and swings him wildly back and forth along the railing, instantly killing him. Probably not the same elephant.

Now if he was a lanky teen or spotty youngster I could maybe forgive it, but he's 43 years old!!!!

Congratulations, smartatic!!!!
I have tried to babble from China for three days and never finished. China will not let me open Lickety's list so I'm not able to find the final words that I am missing ... wastes lots of my time here. I could not find one at Babbler's annonymous or Angelsong. Is there another somewhere? I think the censors do not like the word lists. Can anyone copy Lickety's and email the day's list to me? Is that something that can even be done?
dwism - r u coming back?

Little kids. You've got to think in all forms of the English language.
"I gots to go."
Bye, torgone. I gots to use that word again.
(if you meant it literally)
I don't gots to go. I was just giving an example of proper usage ..

Thats okay, love any company I can get. School gets you in the pits sometimes ... you know : ( (me)
MP remind m, how old are you?
o i know. diplomas next week. *shudders in horror*
Especially when one has to read the Odyssey, and then take a test, and then write an essay, and makes a set for three scences, and also write about it while you're doing so. I'm eleven elder
School was always the pits for me ...
That is a good name, after all you are my elder although there are probabaly older people playing
Waaaay older people ...
Torgone, school's not always the pits. Just sometimes, when you remember your homework and don't talk in class but other kids do and the teacher gets stressed and yells at everybody.

YAY cliffopa!
hi all.
Hi everyone.
I see mousey was having fun again today... *rolls eyes*
hi Mom.
Small grid, not a lot going on!
Hi Stid
It's COLD here today -- got above freezing in the sun, but only just! Finished the grid early and had no more excuses...
Managed to squeak out 33 this morning .... now for the rest.
I can help if you get stuck.
Wow, Stid that is cold for you all. Here in northern KY we were in the 50's
not like winter at all for us.
Thank you for the offer. I may have to take you up on it.
I thought I would kill some time while waiting for my sweetie to get home from work.
sorry, dog was in my lap. Seems kinda warm for you back there -- don't you normally have snow this time of year? (I have about an hour before my kid gets off the bus)
We usually are in the 20's to low 30's for daytime highs. We have had but one snow fall and it came at rush hour one day and was completely gone by 11:00 a.m.
I have an Aunt that lives in Seattle and she went to San Diego for 3 weeks to get away from the weather there.
Can anyone help with the ce 5/12?
wow. I bet your plants and birds are really confused... I have all kinds of little birds I don't usually see at my feeders because it's so cold. Your aunt has the right idea... while I don't like So. Cal much, I wouldn't mind a quick trip at the moment!
the ce 5/12 is an old fashioned English word for "knave" it's an alternate spelling for churl...
oh lookit, stiddy!
The bad thing about it being so warm here is we haven't have a good killing frost. It is a roller coaster ride for us. One week it is in the 30's the next week it is in the 50's. I am sure we will pay for it soon.
How old are your children?
hiya case-o-nuts!
LOL -- I have a teen who seems to be in a quiet spot in the adolescent cycle, and an almost-teen who thinks he's nearly 20...
Kind of slow today . .
you, tor, or the grid? *wicked grin*
lol
both boys?
Both ..
yes, there's more testosterone in this house than air, some days!
Thanks Stid!
lol, I know where you are coming from there. I had 2 myself
yw pinky, any time!
I see in your profile that you are past it though... congrats on surviving! :-)
actually, I still have them. I shouldn't have said "had". Yes we survived.
dropping in and dropping out...hmmm sounds like a 1960's acid poster
It went by so fast.

the problem with finishing the grid quickly is that when you're bored at work and need a break, there's no grid to play with?

kinda sad that the grid is all done...oh well more time to chat! lol
hiya Ping
a nice easy one?
a very easy one
it sure is
i think Dr-God took pity on on from the last weeks worth of boggling grids!
i'm already down to 12 - of course those 12 could be tough
phan - The funeral service was a humanist one (non-religious), conducted by a registrar who knew him personally. I don't think I've ever been to a service/ceremony where people laughed as much as they cried as the deceased's life exploits, including selling tyres to Arabs, were recounted. It was a lovely, honest service that ended with the words, 'Now get down to the pub and drink to him!'
a couple odd ones, but most of these we've seen before
Jac~my kind of funeral. a loving memorial! cheers!
Sounds like a nice service. Even knowing all the great things, doesn't make the loss less painful though.
The grid's lovely and easy. Nothing too weird to guess.
HELP!!!! I Can't find er 5/14+6/24
shorty add onto the 4 above them
Cheers! lbd. *raises a glass*
er5 is a grain fungus, and pl
Hi shorty.

lol lbd
Jac, it's just shown up, and I know what it is!
Oh, it does, kalea! Thank you! *grins*
lbd - only just shown up? Had you been logged in for a while and not refreshed?
I get it Jac!
*giggles...loves being helpful*
re 7 help?
Hi Minski
lb's icon is making me hungry...
I know what yours is, too, lbd. I was trying to get an earring of that type for P for his birthday.
re build=re7

***must get confusing kaleaori*** :)
do you have er5/12?
re + stand up straight
ahh, Minski, that's cuz you're mind doesn't roll in my gutter.
lol Lori.........whenever someone asks you a question, i want to answer
I like lb's gutter. I restrained myself on the Viagra thing, to keep the family rating here. :)
i rather LIKE your gutter, dawg
LOL LoriP
That reminds me of a joke Paul told me earlier.... A little boy was on a nudist beach with his parents. He wandered off for a while and then came back saying, 'Mommy. I've seen ladies with much bigger boobies than yours!' 'The bigger they are, the dumber they are!' said his mother. He wandered off again. On his return he said, 'Mommy. I've seen men with much bigger dinglers than Daddy's!' 'The bigger they are, the dumber they are,' said his mother. The lad goes walkabout again... He returns. 'Mommy! I know what you mean now. I've just seen Daddy talking to a realy, really DUMB lady and the more he talked to her, the dumber he got!'
Kalea, that's why I didn't change anything, because if I had gone with say Gina, I'd ahve wondered who Gina was, and why she never answered anybody... :)
Kalea, must be a certain way of our age group.
lol Lori
Finally got it! The clue about your mind being in the gutter and the viagra clue finally made sense. I actually got 2 words out of that one.
hello babljers
G'd evening mousey.
rofl at Jac's joke
hello mousey
Must tell the hub that one. Thanks Jacula.
LOL Minski
Jac!! *blushing* very funny.
y/w, Lori.
Well, I guess I am going to check back out again. nite all
Minski - sorry I made you blush.

'Night, phandmd.
nice to meet you ping
funny joke, jacula
mousey. Hello. No, it's not. It's a cr5/18 on a Scottish island.
hi mousey
My fear, after this feel good grid, is that tomorrow's word total will be 1017, with about 47 re words...
lol
Bite your tounge LoriP.
true, lori, this one made me feel half-way intelligent LOL
Hi Mousey. Bit your tongue Lori!
ahhhhh an island
have you started the puzzle yet, mousey?
Lori - don't tempt fate!
I have broken my vow about not toying with the gods, especially Dr God. Uh oh...
yah came up with no words
want a few clues?
yikes Lori......*ducks in case of lightning*
*sound of thunder and lightning over Lori's house.*
*throwing salt over her shoulder*
just as long as that lightning and thunder stays over Lori's house and doesn't shift to mine!
Hi Mousey!! I have been "listening" to you for a couple of weeks and find you to be very interesting and entertaining.
Hi everyone! My first time asking for clues as I only have 2 left... the 1st er4,6 please anyone?
er+ not stay Cakey
er + not stop
*a big forefinger points out of the clouds. 'Lori! You have toyed with Dr_God! You alone, will have a 1117 grid with 47 re words to deal with tomorrow!'*
I first got the impression that you were a young guy just from the "sound" of your chat.
Great, tks!
*surely there's some penance I can do to avoid pending ego crushing?*
And the last cr5,12 please?
*'Actually, Lori, make that 2000 words, 100 of which are re words for throwing salt in my Godly eye!*
If you are a young fellow, please do not tell me your age because I would not want any of my grandchildren giving their age over a public chat line.
don't jay walk when you cr*** the street Cakey
cr5.............what Jesus died on
Cakey - last cr5/12 is what Jesus died on.
100 re words? That's just twisted...
Cakey, I love your icon, what kind of pooch is that?
oh I can't believe I missed it! Tks!
do you have fireworks now Cakey?
So now I know what fireworks actually looks like now
Yes!
LOL, Lori. Well... when you mess with the Gods... *shrugs*
wooooooohooooooooooooo Cakey
whoo hoo Cakey!
She's a Shibu Inu
sorry checking my e-mails
she's lovely! and what a loving face!
Lovely dog but rather self opinionated...
Congrats Cakey!
hello everrone who just came
lol Cakey
bye all
bye mousey
Take care mousey.
I must say, I've been reading the chat here for a few weeks and everyone seems so nice
'Bye mousey.
i'm glad you decided to take the plunge and visit with us.
Cakey - in what way 'self-opinionated'? (I love doggie stories.)
welcome, Cakey.........it's a great bunch of people
Oh, where do I start! Teddy does what she wants, when she wants, pretty much. I read somewhere that Shiba's are virtually untrainable and I'd 2nd that
But of course we love her, along with our other 3 dogs and 2 cats
ce 5/12?
a bit bullheaded is she?
ce + either/** + consonant
ce+ either/** + stick letter
Cakey - a dog that is more self-opinionated than a cat? Oh heck!
oh yes! Just laughs at you if you are trying to get her to do something, even if you have a filet mignon on offer
ce + it's imp***ant there be no re words in tomorrow's grid...
i love her smile. she does look like she's full of mischief
thanks
Well thank you! I'll pass that on to her :)
You have dogs?
*****FIREWORKS!!!!!*****
kalea...I can't look at your icon and concentrate on the grid at the same time!!!
Congrats Minski!
I used to have a min pin and a jumbo doberman.
Whoo hoo Minski!
Cakey - I just found this about the shiba inu breed: 'It is best to make training seem like playtime, because this dog is very independent and thinks for itself.'
Sounds right!
Tactful way of putting it! LOL.
That took me less than an hour thanks to some terrific hints. That is an alltime record for me.
Well done, Minksi!
lol Les............you must be male
It was a quick one for me to Minski! very rare indeed!
Must go and make supper now. Thanks for the help for my first fireworks everyone, and see you online again soon!
checking....yes I am!!! *G*
lolol
come back soon Cakey!
Les - men are constantly 'checking' themselves. Always seem to be rummaging and rearranging! LOL.
Have a good evening Cakey.
ahh, another male for smooth, chj and our few other males to bond with!
bon apetit, Cakey
'Bye Cakey. See you again.
It's a comforting thing for us! *G*
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finsihers! YAY!

nice to meet you Les........and i'm sure Lara is pleased too
Hi Min!
G'd evening Min
Ah, is that what it is, Les? LOL.
hiya Min
Hi Minver. How are you? Welcome to the grid.
LOL
comforts...and sometimes pride!!! *G*
LOL Jacula
Does anyone have a clue for the cr 6/21 word please
check out my icon Min
cr6/21 is a typed of hooped earring, an area, a people, a language and a type of cookery. See lbd's icon.
not cajun or jambalaya
Nope! cr + vowel + Spanish bullfighter's cry.
Does anyone have a clue for the cr 7/44 word please
ouch?
Minver - click on my icon and read my notes.
lol........builds on the cr5/18, Min
check out Jac's icon, and Kalea's
or mine, Min
kalea - Only if he's been gored. LOL.
ouch? did you hurt yourself Kalea?
oh...i'm a bit slow...
no dawg......isn't ouch what a bullfighter says?
I get to sleep in tomorrow, and I shan't waste a second of potential snooze time. Have a good evening all!
lol Jac
lbd - I think she was referring to the bulfighter's cry.
night Lori!
sweet dreams, Lori
'Bye, Lori. Snooze well.
yeah, i missed the gored comment...doh! lol
That reminds me - why isn't 'dohs' an allowable word? Homer Simpson 'dohs' all the time.
LOL
Thank you for the cr clues! Finished my cr words now
Well done, Min. What next?
Goodbye LoriP!I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
i know what you mean jac. some of the words that are allowed are so bogus and then there are others...
Since since this is such a small grid, I am going to try and get some words by myself. I was already able to get 35 words without the list. Then I went to the list
I know, lbd! I think we all go AARGH at times.
go for it Min!
Does anyone have a clue for the er 5/12 word please
actually jac I think i say a whole lot of others things like $$*&E#_)RE(!!@@#
er+ *** milk?
upright minveryork
upright minveryork
Having said that, some of the words that may be obsolete, or just regional, to us here in UK and we find what is probably the same to you in USA. Frustration abounds on both sides but, as we exchange information, we all learn more about each other's languages. Yes, I know we're all supposed to speak English in UK, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, NZ and Tasmania - but there's a world of difference sometimes. We are often closer to the Antipodeans languagewise.
oops, put together, build=er5/12
ooops sorry didnt mean to duble post
Well so much for getting words by myself! Just asked for a clue!I want to finish this so I can goto bed early
that is so true, Jac.........
Min - ask away. No one will think the worse of you for it.
a1, that's okay...it's either an echo or a burp! lol
Thank you for my er clues.I finished my er words now
Hi folks
I do enjoy learning from others, and the cluing is half the fun in trying to figure it out.
Hi Relarion
Hi again, relarion.
Hello a1axelady! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
hello relarion
hi folks
Hello relarion! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Hi Jac, kal, lb
lbd - I admit I clue differently at different times of the day, or to different nations. I do try to temper my clues to the asker.
hi thank you for the welcome
Hello featherbee! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
hello feather
is this one a toughie, medium, or easy?
Hiya Min
Hi feather.
easy, feather
i've had a rough night, need an easy one!
Easy, feather!
awesome.
It's an under one hour grid, feather.
awwwwww feather.........sorry you had a bad day
my kitty died tonight. i've been expecting it though, she's been living on borrowed time.
I would say that it is a medium grid featherbee.I was able to get 35 words w/out list. Then went to my list
evening, all
Hi feather, i'm sorry to hear about your kitty. (((hugs)))
Aw, feather. So sorry to hear that. (HUGS)
*hugs feather* i am so sorry
Hi Pam
hello pam
How old was she?
thanks guys
Oh, feather, i am so sorry
Hello pam.
I'm sorry to hear about your cat featherbee! I hope it wasn't too painful! I used to have a cat a long time ago. I'd like to get another cat sometime very soon.
Hi, lbd, kalea, jac, and everyone
help - can't get the last ro4
Hello pam! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
she looks like she went in her sleep. she's had some medical problems. i wrote about her in my blog tonight.
Hi yoglatte! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
I'm so sorry, feather. My husband and I have been agonizing all day ab out putting his dad's dog down. My father-in-law has dementia and the doggie is very ill.
i'll miss her. we had 4 cats, and of the 4 she was "mine"
hi, min ad yoga
featherbee: I am sorry about your Kitty. When Bj Kittikens died I cried for weeks. There were times that I thought that kitty was the only living thing in this world that loved me. I hope that you are in a good place in your life and do not feel the pain that I did.
thanks min, have trouble with the short ones too
ro 4/4 is ro plus cross letter plus perpindicular letter
oh, relarion, that is so hard
i'm not as upset as i thought i'd be, and i think it's because this past week i've been wondering how much time we had left with her. doug just refilled her pills this past tuesday, and ever since then i've been wondering.
Hi SMDNJV! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
oh relarion......that's tough *gives a big hug*
got it, thx min
i'm going to miss her terribly, and didn't want to stop petting her tonight, but i'm glad she went peacefully
It's so hard to lose a furbaby. all their unconditional love and our dependency for their love.
It is Pam; feather, I've been through it with 2 dogs and 2 cats. It's a big deal when you love them so.
our nickname for her was "needful thing" because she doted on me
SMD - I was like that about my old dog. He was such a pal to me when I was in bits after my marriage broke up that I fear I kept the poor old boy going for a year longer than I should have. I loved him so much though, and he me. It broke my heart when I had to take him on his last journey. 6/7 years on I still don't feel ready for a new dog. 2 cats have adoped ME in the meantime.
Does anyone have a clue for the mo 6/21 word please
she'd always be here on the top of the couch, purring inches away from my ear as i played on the computer
I am amazed by the chat that is taking place here. I just upgraded to Pro today because my trial period was over. However, I do not feel like a Pro!!
Min, think actress M. O'Hara, duff, spelling
sounds like a woman's name Min. like Ms. Ohara.
I meant diff. spelling
()((((((((hugs)))))))) to all. Our companion animals bring us such unconditional joy and love... and teach us to try and do the same
amazed why smd?
smd, welcome to pro!
Welcome to pro playing, SMD.
welcome, SM..........happy to have you here
smd--iam the "anti-pro" lolol I never finish (rarely), wander all over the place while I am here, clue if I can, and am addicted!!! WElcome to PRO!!!!!!

Am amazed that everyone can Babble and Scrabble at the same time. I can
lol.........good clue, pam
ok pam, get outta my head, i just entered that word a second before you
ok...the newbie here has never finished a grid...and I have two left...and stuck!!!
To those that have lost beloved pets - go to this link.
sorry, hit enter by accident. Was saying I can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

It will make you cry. Sorry! But it's beautiful.

I love the rainbow bridge poem.

Does anyone have a clue for the re 7/32 word please
lbd - Have you watched the poem with pictures and music?
re7.....build again
I did not see your post until after I had entered mine
reason for viagra....rofl
Min - re7/32 = to build again.
*slaps dawg's fingers*
I lost BJ Kittikens over 15 years ago. There is hardly a day that I do not think of him. He would sit in the chair beside me or on my lap an purr while I read to him.
thanks jac. that touched me. i'll be back in a bit.
Jac, yes, it's beautiful. and heart wrenching.
Or, as lbd said, setting us off on 'that' path again... another reason for Viagra.
feather. (HUGS)
Thank you for the re clues! Finished my re words now
got the cr 5/12 thst Jesus died on...need the other one
{{{{Featherbee}}}}
go go go, Min
te+ reve**** gear to go backwards
te5 rhymes with ....second ***** same as the first...i'm Henry the 8th i am....
ARRGGGHHH!!! I'm down to FIVE words, having had NO help from the chat or going to the list...I REALLY want to finish this one on my own for once, but I just canNOT get the last 5!! (runs in circles screaming and pulling hair out)
hehehe, Kalea! get out of my head!
oooooo...got it! one to go!!!
lol dawg........it's such a fun place to be
cr + mined from earth.
cr5/12 (1st) = fishing basket for equipment. cr5/12 (2nd) = c + sounds like a lion sound.
go les go!
brb, need more tea
after a bit of floundering I think I am re 7/32!!!
ok, i'm better now. that poem broke me though. was sobbing, then once i calmed down (am still snuffling) had to go give her one last pet and kiss. she's awaiting daylight for burial.
firefly - STOP! {Pull no more hair out! The last 5 are the hardest. Now, take a deep breath...
ooooooh Les.........so dawg's clue helped, eh?
Done! My first Fireworks!!!
woooooohooooooooooooooo Les
I'm sorry, feather. It's a very healing thing to watch though. Still makes me cry.
wooo hoooooooo les
Well done, Les!
no...I think it was your icon!!! *G*
Oh, hang on! You're not 'pro' are you, Les? Here are you're fireworks. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
lol Les
yes, thank you jac. it was the first time i cried like that tonight. man, i'm going to miss her. ok, enough wallowing, going to work on the grid.
crap, I accidentally saw a clue - one word down, only 4 left - EEEEEEE!!!
Calm down, firefly! LOL
what now Jacula? what words of wisdom to miraculously get my last four?
brb.....hubby wants tea
See you, Kalea.
firefly - well now, let's see... you're a pro player and so you have stats. What letters are still needed and what word lengths?
Congratulations LesForMore on fireworks!Good for U
lol, "gots" isn't a word? tell that to my kindergartners!
Hello firefly779! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
Correct. 'gots' is not a word.
Jac - I need one 6, and three 4's, one each of G, R, T, and M
Question please. I have been playing this game for two weeks. Trial period up today and I upgraded. How long will it be before I can put it down and go to bed without waiting for the next days grid to flip and getting a little start on it??
gr4/6 is gunk.
Min - see my posts just minutes ago (screaming, pulling hair...)
g + what a body does after death.
never smd, bwahahaha!
I am finished! Thank you all for your wonderful clues!
SMD - NEVER! You are now an Offical Babble Addict.
SMDNJV - think months...then add a few more :)
yay min!
*Official
Jacula...what time is it in UK? 3:00 a.m.?
Les - 2.48am
Jac - the g4/6, got it - on to R,T,M
how do you stay up so late?
I do not remember how I came across this site but I have not been able to leave it. I rush home from work to take up where I left off at lunch.
ro4/4 - body breakdown as mentioned before + upright stick consonant.
Jac - woohoo! ok, T and M
one's a 6, one's a 4
*slips back in*
m6/21 maybe? Sounds like an Irish girl's name. Rhymes with a soup container (tu****).
yesssss Jac - good, i'll try to monkey the t4 then...
If that's correct and you final word is a t/4, we have a few to choose from.
Can someone tell me about Mousey? I would never ask anyone's age, especially if I think they may be under 21. I have grandchildren and I would never want them to tell their age to adults in a public chat. I first thought Mousey was under 10, but noow not so sure. He is witty, hurmorous and seemingly very smart. He/She makes me laugh!!
Hey! I'm 'good', aren't I? LOL.
lalea...oooooooooo Baby!!!!
TADA!!! Sheesh - five darn words from having done it all sans any help whatsoever! Oh well - it was a good effort :) Thanks for holding my hand Jacula!
Kalea I mean..
mousey is the grandson of one of our babblers......he is very smart for his age
Yay Min [belatedly]!
yay, firefly!
lol Les
SMDNJV - I heard age 8
woohoo firefly!
fo8 anyone. thanks
whoo hoo firelfly
SMD - Ah, mousey. Mousey is, we are told, the 8-year-old grandchild of a regular Babbler. However, mousey has at times been 35 and spells and makes sentences far more mature than any 8-year-old. Make your own mind up.
there is no 8
no fo8 yoga
yoga - no 8's today...fo are 4 or 5 long
Mousey is not only very smart, he is very entertaining. He reminds me of one of my grandsons. He seems to have a sense of humor beyond his years.
lb, your icon is making me hungry
oops, meant the fo4/8 thx
Well done, firefly. What WAS your last t.4? Clue it, don't TELL me.
lol jac
fo4....the ex pres who just died
Jac - um, duhhh :) it was the last word in the list
Mousey can also be a 'troll' at times.
thx kalea - why can't i see this stuff?
firelfy - Oh, the nice surprise without the middle 'a'?
lol yoga.....it's the easy ones that are hardest
whoo hoo Min, you completed whist i was away
yoga - it was tricky today, don't be too hard on yourself :) too many consonants I say
yeah, i hate it when i miss the easy 4's
yes Jacs, that's the one!
down to 22 left here!
go feather!
going to grab the list. brb
Jac - I prefer to believe that Mousey is very young. I do not think a 35 year old could be as entertaining as any youth. He so reminds me of my middle grandson. He too has a sense of humor that is solely his. Mousey's sense of humor is unique. Even if he is a troll at times.
feather - just ask if you need.
I'm outtie - kudos to the finishers, and here's to hoping for a BIG one on Monday :) hehehehehe
k, i will!
be back later, folks..........got some writing to finish up
SMD - I remain uncertain on that one.
i tend to think mousey is a youngster. don't usually have adults acting like trolls.
when someone "grabs the list" do they print it or bring it up on another screen as I do? Still learning!!
firefly, you and LoriP are going to be haunted by a long list of re's!
i personally bring it up on the firefox sidebar
smd, i use a second window when i get the list.
LOL ibd and Jac. You make me laugh.
wow, i've monkeyed some good ones here
lbd - yeah, probably ;) LoriP wants a big grid too? I prefer them over the 150 types
If I get either BJ's or Lickety's list I copy & paste it into 'notepad' and then bring it up over the chatlog.
thanks ibd. that is what I do but it takes me forever to look up a word when someone asks for a clue.
I didn't use a list today. I try not to use a list until I'm at least 3/4 or even 9/10 through a grid.
I have just one word left - re7/32 help pls.
my goal is usually half way at least, more if possible
cr6/21?
me too smd. taking forever that is to find the word needed.
re + viagra!! Yes I do learn clues quickly!!
re7, build again pbr
cr6/21 - see lbd's icon.
lol smd, you'll fit in fine here! lol
oh right, it's friday!
didn't I notice a nun playing the other day? I have a wicked sense of humor and I do not want to offend anyone.
SMD - eventually, on here, you do learn the shorthand clues as you do with cryptic crosswords. If you see us talking about 'the Sicilian volcano', for instance, it means 'etna' is in the grid again.
A nun?
yeah, i think that aloysius? sorry if i spelled it wrong, or even got the wrong person
nun? who?
Don't know of any nuns in here, but the nuns I have known all have a great sense of humour anyway.
scrabbler is a nun and pediatrician who is funny and very open-minded on chat
Aloy - a nun?
I could be wrong about her being a nun. She lives in Canada I think but maybe just in the ministry.
ahh, no it was scrabbler maybe. bahh, i don't know!
Scabbler is a nun? Well, pam. I never knew that.
and someone else, I forget who, is in a theology program to be an episcopal priest...
aren't we all nuns in some sense of the word?
lbdawger - got it! thx -- doing the fireworks
yes, scrabbler mentioned it last week or the week before
It won't change the way I speak to her though. Like I said, all of the nuns I have known are more 'wordly' than most folks give them credit for.
shoot, i don't have either as "my friends" so i can't check
whoo hoo PBR!
LOL, jac
yay pbr!
yay, pbr
Yes Scrabbler, that is who I thought was/is a nun!
you know, feather, I never set up the my friends thing,,, often wondered about that, then didn't, lololol
Aloy and scrabbler...neither would be offended by much. at least they both seem really easy going and open minded
Well,Scrabbler IS on my 'Friends' list - she is doing pasotral studies.
gotta go for a while...stay loose!
and i think in a public chat like this you have to be open minded or find another forum.
later Les. hope to see you more often!
i just every now and then add people who i remember seeing around a lot.
Oh dear, pam, I meand worldly, not wordly. LOL. Same thing though on Babble.
it's a good idea!
lolololol, jac
8 to go and counting...
I know lots of catholics and they are a lot of fun to party with. There is a Priest on one of the Board of Directors I serve on and I know two Nuns personally. All of them have a good time and enjoy life thoroughly.
I once read a saying, Les - if you are too open-minded your brains will fall out.
Guess that's why we 'older' folks forget so many things! LOL.
LOL Jac!! Never heard that one!!
The nerd in me also thought, 'brainS? You only have one brain.'
Maybe it is the cells that fall out!!
Probably, Les.
i know you loose iq points for every child you have or have around for any amount of time! lol
Sorry, I meant SMD.
See what I mean?
LOL
AARGH!
lbd - when I had my first child, a son, I asked my midwife why I felt so 'scatty'. She told me, 'Don't worry! It's common when a woman has a son. It's the build up of testosterone. It'll settle in 2 weeks or so.' She was mostly right. When I had my daughter 3 years on I was bright and compos mentis afterwards.
Dunno what happened after that though.:((
my oh my jac attack, i don't know about scatty, but you sure look chatty
it's all the time being mom that did it. having to be on call 24/7, no rest...always having to be there...
Hey there Nutty!
heya dawg
who are those two little angels in your icon?
nut!
me and the renster of course dawg
Yep! 2 little kids can do your brain in.
done!
yay, feather!!!!
wassup pamster?
whoo hoo Feather!
And then, before you know it, as many parents my own age and older, told me at the funeral gathering I was at earlier, 'It's gone in the blink of an eye. Suddenly, they are... and you are...'. There were people from 10-years' of age up to almost 92-years' of age at that gathering. Every decade and generation was represented at my 92-year old Grandad-in-Law's funeral. He was born in 1914. Had 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren (so far). Eldest gt-grandchild is my son, 2nd, my daughter. Youngest - Sam's little Maisie - a Down's child.
She make a great but cheerful racket during the Humanist service earlier.
Thank God I didn't see her Mum ramming a soft toy into her mouth long enough to shut her up but not long enough to stop her breathing. My son only told me about that later. They were directly behind us right by the coffin.
There were far too many instances of both laughter and tears ther anyway! No one needed me giggling at Sam and Maisie.
Well done, feather!
If I'd have giggled at Maisie, I'd have set her off more and her Mum, too.
i know my stepson drove me over the edge at times and my grandson definitely was making me crazy during the holidays!
At least I didn't have a silly hat on this time, like I did a P's mate's wedding... the hat set the little kiddy behind me off giggling and trying to snatch it off.
I have 6 REs and 2 ROs... anyone know what I'm missing?
oh dear, i think that would have set me off giggling too
uhm, 4 REs, rather
you have way too many re's and not enough ro's
thanks, lb
3 ro's spec
w00t, fireworks!!! thanks, muchly
whoo hooo spec
lbd - It was like 'The Ex Wives' Club' at that funeral. So many of us there, one of whom did have a sillly hat on. My ex-pa-in-law upset her by saying so. I'd thought same, but didn't tell her so. I just hugged her, a lovely Geordie I'd missed seeing over the years, and she me.
other than the silly hat, i'm glad you got to see your friend. "Geordie"?
Oh, and I did think that on the occasion of his father's funeral at least, my ex-hubby's uncle (who is only 3 years' older than him) MIGHT refrain from asking me to marry him. He did! GHis proposal this time was far more earthy.:((
I remember the first time I was introduced to that side of my 'boyfriend's (as he then was) family, his uncle had said, 'Are you serious about her? If not I wnat her!'
yippee fireworks for the 2nd time!! thx for the hel;
He's never married. Was the last one left at home in the end caring for elderly parents.
help i mean
But, every time he meets me, he asks me to marry him in front of evryone.
I love him, as a family member. But I won't be marrying him. I love my Paul.
whoo hooo yoga!
yogalatte! i love your icon!
I wish I could 'make the fairy story' but... well, life's not always like that, is it? I've got a love I fell in love with and he me when we were just 4-years-old.... It took us both a long time to work out... maybe not.
We have both moved on now. I hope my ex's uncle will also do so. The only person I wanted by my side at the funeral, even though I was surrounded by friendly family, was my new other half.
I felt alone without him.
Am I gabbling on here?
I'll shut up! LOL
How funny! I've got an Elton John cd on in my headphones right now. 'You're The One' came up as I was posting.
it sounds like you need the time to share jac. nothing wrong with that
Love yogalette's squished pig icon, btw!
lbd - Yes, but am I saying too much?
i don't know about too much. It's how you feel and how much you want to share jac.
I, personally think when a person is so much in love that there isn
you're still gabbling, yes jac
oops I did it again. Was saying when someone is in love, there is not enough that can be said.
lbd - I think you asked earlier what a 'Geordie' is? It is someone from the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne area.
middle ro 4?
Evan - gabbling if my fo4/7 plus a vowel!
ro 4/4 ro** chili tomatoes with out the e.
Enci - ro* - what a dead body does + upright consonant.
(((nut)))
heya owl
Hey TO!
going to bed now...ya'll have a marvy night
SMD - dopn't say'oops, I did it again' or I'll be 'forced' to recall the image of my 11/12 yr old daugher in an orange mini dress and a pair of my (too big for her) black suede boots, dancing around on her bed singing that Gina G. song. Daugher 'hates' me for remembering walking in on that. LOL.
night nutty, I'm calling it a night too! see you all tomorrow!
Did Britney Spear do that song? I know it was a Gina G song I caught my daughter doing.
ty
Would love to have seen that myself!! I am constantly walking in on my granddaughter "Performing!!" Doesn
Fireowrks- thanks for the clues!
I keep on doing that. It is driving me crazy. I am typing in the dark. Everyone else is in bed aslleep.
Yup. Just checked cd's - It was Gina G's 'Just A Little Bit' I caught her performing!
i love my Laptop, but the keyboard is way too easy to "Fatfinger."
yogalette - where in nj are you from?
I have six grandchildren. Each is very entertaining in their own unique way. All are different as night and day, even the siblings.
SMD - I have no granchildren yet, even though many younger than me in my family do.
But the circle of life is so short! I think at least 18 people said that to me today.
One grandson was adopted from Siberia, and one granddaughter was adopted from Moscow. All three grandsons, as well as there dads, (my sons) have the most beautiful brown eyes. The granddaughters all have blue eyes that arrive in the room 5 minutes before the rest of the body. Their eyes are the first thing people notice about them.
LOL, re the blue eyes, SMD.
Know what you mean. My other half has those eyes, too.
It is true!! You can easily get lost in the blue of their eyes.
My ex-hubby's wife has a daughter adopoted from South America. She is growing up to be a beautiful woman, both physically and as a person.
All three grandson's will probably be rocket scientists or something just a great. The giirls will be princesses.....Wild Indian princesses that is.
good night, all
We look like the UN when we have family get togethers. Two nieces adopted from China, a nephew adopted from Mexico, a niece and nephew from Guatemala.....they have the most beautiful hair.
Ex's 2nd wife was once a Joan Collins lookalike, but not quite, once you get to know her. Her daughter has same features but magnified in some way. Daughter, maybe due to suicidal father who succeeded in his aim, is the most nasty, difficult and desperate person you could meet, so my kids tell me.
nitey nite TO.
Both kids tell me she is 'ugly'. I ask why. They say, it comes from inside her.
That is so sad!
Night, TO.
that really is sad. Such a legacy for a dad to leave his children, grandchildren and on and on. You know she has to be concerned about inheritint that suicidal tendency.
SMD - She's made sure he'll be having no more children. She's 51 - a year older than me.
Mean't she'll be having no more
I have had bouts of depression, as have several of my ancestors. but I have sought treatment for it. I have a sister that is, at times, a totally different person. I know she has the same sort of depression that I have had, but I can't convince her to seek help. She has three daughters who have all but given up on her.
Help must be taken! Not that I ever have, LOL. Well, when one of your kids goes into therapy, first blame they look for is one of The Parents.
I have been treated and I am enjoying life to the fullest. I take medication, but it is the least I can do for myself and my family.
hello everyone!
We BOTH need therapy maybe, but that's neiither of our ways of working things out.Another 5 years of self-therapy and we'll both be fine.
Hah!
My parent were totally unsupportive of my seeking help. they never had a "down" day in their life. Nope, can't blame it on my parents.
Hi Franmag. Sent your Crete thingey on Thursday. Let me know when you get it.
hi jac! i will, thanks again!
I always heard that mental illness is inherited! You get it from your kids. LOL. Mine have sure tested my sanity at times.
does anyone have the re 7?
shannon, make upright again
\SMD - neither of us had any hesitation about seeking help for our anorexic daughter who was only 4 stone in weight. \Put your daughter in a nuthouse for 3 or 4 years.
re + viagra reaction
re7 = to build again.
ty. 3 more.
Put your daughter in a nuthouse and damage her more, but at leat she is still alive to be angry and grumpy with you.
Jac I can think of nothing harder to do. My youngest son has been hospitalized a couple of times but I was right there with him.
My daughter was the sweetest baby and toddler and child up to 10. Then her Dad left.
He blames himself.
I tell him not to.
go shannon!
I thinnk anoraxia is a physical thing.
Phyrical and mental chemical problem. Maybe brought on by Dad leaving but would have happened at some point in her life anyway.
done!
blame is such an easy assignment. I am just happy your daughter is still alive to tell her story.
my younger sister and my older half-sister both have mental health issues
yay shannon!
SMD - me, too!
i just found out recently that our father's grandmother was institutionalized for depression (before they had good medications)
help--second 7 -re7-32?
olfar, make upright again
can someone clue the cr7, please?
One of my nephews wifes sister (16 years old) died yesterday. Anorexia.
uh oh, fran we are doing it again
nat!! same picture even!
Fran - it's so hard, isn't it? It's still a thing neighbours whisper about. we live in a small village - gossip abounds. You can't do anything without someone noticing it her and reporteing it to someone else, and then a member of your family eithr calling round or ringing you to ask..
I know
that's sad SMD.
ty FraqnMag
I got on earlier and picked the first word I found for my icon
natasha, look at jac's icon clue
Yes it is sad. Parents had hospitalized her a couple of days before, but the anorexia had taken it
In my village - some kids saw my daughter getting far too thin and others just thought she's disappeared. A teacher from her school, who knew what was actually happening, came to our house and asked for permission to tell the truth in Assembly.... rumours were she was pregnant, and also had AIDS. GOD!
well there she goes again. I am going to have to relocate the "enter" key to China. Was saying Anorexia had taken it's toll on her.
She said, 'Fu**! Just telll them the truth, if they are that nosey!'
I don't think it was nosey, totally. This is a caring village.
jac, it was kind of hard to hide my sister's illness, during her first psychotic break she left the house through a window and went to the neighbor's house to "warn" them of whatever thing was bothering her at the time.
thanks fran
Odd how people can take a situation and totally turn it into something else. But the real shame comes from the people who listen to and repeat the rumors without even trying to check the facts.
yw natasha!
SMD - I am so sorry about your los of the 26-yr-old. Such an unneccessary waste of life.
Meant 16-yr old. Sorry!
Knackered here, but still can't sleep.
Thx Jac for the sympathy, but I did not really know the young lady. Her sister married my husbands nephew and moved here from Oklahoma. I never met her. But having lost a son, my heart goes out to her family.
one hour and 27 minutes to flip!!
one hour and 26 minutes to flip!!
SMD - Song for Guey by \Elton John is in my headphones now...'Life isn't everything....' Listen on.
jacula...what's the weather like there?
fireworks!!
Les - no idea! Just listening to Elton John's 'Your Song'. Once I've done that, I'll go out and look.
Well don dr!
hooray for dr9397!!
dr9397 what is the significance of your screen name?
sorry, distracted by having to order dinner, husband wanted Chinese food instead of leftovers. he can't accuse of not trying to save money.
Fran...what time is it where you live?
it's 6:42 smd.
fireworks!
So Hawaii is 4 hours behind Central time.
Yaaay Natasha!!
ok, off to read for a bit. see you all tomorrow
yay natasha!!!
later nat!
Fran - what time zone are you in??
SMD, when i set it in my computer it's called Hawaii time
fireworks--the second time! Thankx again, FranMag
Ihave to sleep now. 'Night alll!
night jac! sleep well!
yay olfar! yw
hi babblers!
I guess that would make sense. I get lost in the time zones.
congrats olfar!
hi zabeth!
i'm getting addicted to this. i wonder if i'll keep it up when i get back to college.
well, if it does zabeth, i hope it doesn't cut into study time!
My Middle son lived in California for a while teaching at the University of California. I think he was in Pacific time zone there. He is now teaching in a Las Vegas college and I am unsure of the time zone there. Maybe Mountain time??
haha i have a sinking feeling that it will...
some babblers only babble on weekends or days off, you might have to limit yourself.
oh, you know college students. always trying to find ways to waste time or procrastinate. or lose sleep.
at least this is mind-enriching.
not sure smd, can't find las vegas on my world clock
zabeth, i remember staying up all night to do projects in college, just can't do that anymore
mm. i've never pulled an all nighter, but i've come close.
Fran ,, I am in Central time Zone and he is two hours behind. I could probably google it and find out, but he will call tomorrow and I can ask him. He is still single and loves his Mommy very much! Weekend call is a regular.
smd, google says that las vegas is PST
i did the most important presentation of the semester on 2 hours of sleep.
that's nice SMD
thx zabeth. Where do you attend college??
tufts, in boston
Wow!! Majoring in??
my team members totally let me down, i had to answer all the questions. luckily, i knew it inside and out and the answers just came out of my mouth somehow.
hmmm...i'm a freshman and have lots of time to decide, but as of now it looks like psychology
I am in Pacific time zone... it is 9 PM..
fran...that sounds horrific
but way to go you for managing!
heh, i changed my major when i was already at the end of sophomore year!
that's my excuse for taking an extra year. ;-)
sounds good to me
i can't believe first semester is already over. i don't feel like i've even started college
civil defense just broke into programming with a tsunami watch.
i guess there was an earthquake off the coast of Alaska
Nice....all my sons started out majoring in psychology but wound up changing their major in their sophomore year. Hope you stick it out. I was an accounting major myself and it is nothing but dull, dull, dull.
But I love it!!
smd, i started out in pre-engineering (math & science) and then switched to management/marketing, almost went for a third major in accounting, but that would have taken me another semester.
my grandmother is an accountant, smd. she went from being a math teacher to being a music teacher to being an accountant. things work themselves out in the end!
i really liked the accounting classes i took though.
i hadn't heard that about the tsunami, fran. hope everyone stays safe!
no tsunami yet, they're just on the lookout for one. ever since the south asia one they're very careful.
11 more, 55 min, I think I can I think I can
i think you can too.
interestingly enough zabeth, those three topics actually utilize a lot of the same skills (math, music & accounting)
I loved the accounting classes and my professors. I do not care for public accounting so I am working with contracts for a large company. Still love the accounting.
go nat!!
good evening, babblers!
hi flyndog!
read back a little, I hope the tsunami watch is not fruitful for the watchers
i had an awesome accounting professor, norma joiner, she was former military and a lot of people didn't like her style, but i enjoyed her classes so much.
me too flyndog!
I lived in HI for a couple of years back in the 70's and they didn't announce tsunami watches back then... kinda scary!
they're being pretty good about it now, especially after a scare a couple of months ago that caused a rush on emergency supplies. someone had started a rumour that there was a tsunami on the way.
emergency supplies...like duct tape and bottled water? i've always wondered what the duct tape was for.
duct tape is for EVERYTHING!! =)
hahahaha
ok last one, ne 5/12?
strike that ...5/10
well, when i lived in Guam which got hit with typhoons at least 3 times a year, the tape was for the windows to keep them from shattering.

oh, yours was fine, it did the trick... just an odd word, would have taken a lot of monkeying around
let's see... how about re 6/21 and re 7/32?
re7/32 is to make upright again
re6/21 is not so long ago
ty
re6 is like it just happened, and the 7 is to build again
dang fran, fast typist you
ty again!
yeah, fastest typist in my 7th grade class.
or maybe it was 9th grade
i absolutely hated typing
my brain just runs a little slow at this time of night..... that is my excuse and I am sticking to it
until i started emailing people =)
the only problem is i learned on a manual typewriter (who remembers the IBM selectric?) so i'm really heavy-handed.
