Then call up and ask for an informational interview - explain you are only exploring career opps in their field, not specific ones at their place. That opens doors like you wouldn't believe!

A teacher friend was commenting on how many of his students are wanting to do forensic work. All on the basis of CSI making it look so glamorous, whereas the reality is probably completely different and yes, boring.
Of course, they're four, so they just give me a look and keep on whining...
hurshy - you're obsessing too much about what you'll be doing... try to think about the people you'll be with... they can make any job fun...
And dear hurshy, a huge gift would be accepting a job that won't overwhelm you while you spend the first year recovering your equilibrium from this huge change. So maybe a job that you could do blindfolded gives you a 'rest' in order to be gentle with yourself for awhile... just a thought.

It's fun to be open to new things, though. I walked into a radio station once to ask if they had an opening for a janitor or secretary. I wound up being hired to read news, then 10 years later I was hosting the morning show live. Then I applied for a job as a job search consultant (with no experience, again) and was hired for that! Loved it for 4 years. Then became a Project Director for a young offender program. (Again, no experience). And I have no formal education beyond the usual. So I'm just saying this as example of being open to risking and failing. I've had a blast and been lucky enough to be fairly successful. I suspect you would be too, Hurshy.

i thinkit's the sound TNC's cat made when the vet started pulling teeth!
we got her from the humane society, so we think she is about 8 years old. they sedated her and did a teeth cleaning and that is when they decided more teeth had to come out.

my kitty will be 17 on April 3 and she still chases mice and squirrels. tho this year she's lost most of her hearing and has cataracts

TNC, she must have had some other problems for the vet to pull so many teeth. and rescued animals have a tendency to have a lot of dental problems such as absesses
it was quite an ordeal, me, a skittish kitty in the carrier, Crackers (1.5 yo) and Tea (3.5 yo) with no other adult, going to the vet. I'm sure we were a sight.
the vet said that her teeth were pretty dirty, but he was so worried about getting us all out tot he car in one piece that he really didn't talk to much about her, just told me he pulled multiple teeth and gave us kitty antibiotics.
as long as everyone who went in came out all right.

My lovely Susiecat will be 18 in Julyish (she adopted us, possibly abandoned by camper in September) and we've been feeding her dry TD (tartar diet) for years -- vets say her teeth are in amazingly good condition. She's longhaired calico and also gets Senior Hairball Diet, which seems to work too.
your Susiecat made a wise choice in people.
that ordeal is over, thank goodness. then, yesterday, there was a wildfire in our neighborhood and a house about 3 blocks from us burned completely down and 4 to 6 others were damaged.
I think maybe we made a wise choice in vets
dry food is the best for them. Gidget has all of her teeth and they are clean and solid in her mouth. no gingivitis. the hard food helps keep them clean

the neighborhood was evacuated (not us, though - just up to about a block away) but we had aheck of a time getting home from church, as our street was the main road in. They took down the power grid and some houses still don't have phone or cable today. It was a bit scary!

Yer right DoDo, she would. She's quite a word person as well. Well, was. She had a sever stroke three years ago this month and has never recovered. She's really deteriorating, to the point where one of my brothers met w/hospice last Monday, and she may soon need it. So we're looking at just weeks now. :(

if you ask a stranger my age, they'll say mid to late 30s (tho the 80 year olds think I'm in my 20s lol), i can win every guess your age thingie at the fairs, if you ask my family, they'll say "She's 13 at most" if you ask ME? somewhere between 13 and 30. I'm blessed with good genes, unabused skin and ADHD, which keeps my mind childlike. I have two grown sons, 34 and almost 36 and I shall be 57 on Friday (is that how old I am??? wow!)

np, not, and no, not a happy story. BUT, really it is pretty happy. I was kind of a bratty, braniac loner in HS and this actually helped me come out of my shell in some ways. And kids who were teades me or ignored me actually would help when I was on crutches the first several months after the surgery.

You know there are a LOT of good things that have come in the last 30+ years. WHeelchair basketball (a highly competitive sport), amputee golf (incredible to watch some with TWO fake legs hit a golf ball 250 yards, or one of the arm amps who kinda looked like Tiger hit it 285 yards straight down the fairway!)
