oh dc -- cool cufflinks -- I hope you have some!
hi stid
i'm goint to request them for my bday :)
and if you liked Breyer's Viennattas, their Chocolat Crackle is viennetta as ice cream :)
for more Japanese manhole covers, see http://tinyurl.com/24cyhy (I've posted it in my profile too)
Nan... I was reading back in the log and saw you enjoyed Boston Legal. I watched tonight's last episode also. Just love that show
dc, is your bday before Xmas?
Hugs, that darn show is on Monday nights and I'm always out
no, Feb 8, plenty of warning :)
I just started watching it this season... and now it's off. I've been catching past episodes on Shaw's Diva channel
well, I'd better have a look at this grid -- is it kind or rotten kind?
it was good wasn't it
rotten kind
awful... I've been struggling since about 50 words

Hi all
evening, cjmom
it was from the ugly wallpaper theme the other day, I just liked it enough to keep it :P
very cool, ata
how odd. no cats in this room. i wonder what they're up to
though they're being quiet, so that's good
morning all
Alabaster is turning into a beeeaaaauuutiful boy!
morning sprite
good morning, sprite! *hug*
hi sprite
he'll be 4 months on the 24th
Hi sprite
seain! *hugs right back*
hi sprite (just got back from getting myself a nightcap)
hi flosey, Ata, cjmomma, jilli :) How are you all?
good ty and yourself
Ata, I sent you a link yesterday eve, from the parents of our puptobe. Did you get it?
great thanks sprite, and you?
yes!!!!!!!!!
beautiful manhole covers, flosey and jilli and seain en cjmomma!
tks sprite
hi sprite.....nite all
am ok today, looking forward to a quiet day.
tyvm :)
night dart
night dart
yours is very attractive sprite
our gas manhole covers here are diamonds: http://tinyurl.com/6c4dpr
that one's an old one. the new ones say Washington Gas or Washington Gas Light on them.
g'night dart
cool seain! Funny, I have never given those things any attention. Good theme from wickdsmaht, I enjoyed learning about them and seeing beautiful ones!
sprite, not only is your manhole cover lovely, but the write-up is most interesting!
thanks flosey
thanks jilli! I wanted to share what I had found out.
and yes, your write-up is interesting, sprite
perhaps the circles in my wallpaper are really manhole covers in disguise
lol Ata, I bet. They could be anything.
oh please, do send me your addy again? It is such a mess in my room, I cannot find it atm.
ones like this surround the Capitol Reflecting Pool:
http://tinyurl.com/5scs86
I will
accorning to sprite's writeup, those dc gas "diamond" shapes, which are really square, could fall in
according
the wallpaper is so trippy it harbours blue elphants carrying champaigne glasses in their trunks
oh seain, those are beautiful
the gas ones only happen on sidewalks, and the covers are octogonal, you'll notice
lol seain, true. Ata won the prize for the trippiest.
herin and jac (?) too. they had the same
yes the reflecting pool ones are. but i went with the workaday utiltarian ones for my icon
tran t
I apologise for my random space :(
hmmm I should find a pic of the Portland ones, though. they are fab
would love to see them, Ata
i don't recall them. i'll have to notice next i'm there. maybe we can arrange to overlap there some time, ata.
ok just read all that sprite that is very informative...never knew that, ty for the info
yvw cjmomma, it was new to me too! Jilli got me going on discovering things I never knew with the icon themes. I am really enjoying it.
that is really great, I found alot of things when I started doing power point...the older I get the more I want to learn! :)
that is what is keeping us young, cjmomma :)
I agree
finally found ch7
there. they have those, and then some with knotwork on, but can't find a pic of those
I remember my grandfather, who started learning to work with a word processor when he was 80+, he was such a lovely man.
sprite -- I have another icon idea -- hydrants
beautiful rose, Ata
oh jilli, cool! Will add it right away.
oh the roses, i'd forgotten about the roses
roses everywhere!
fireworks
YAY dee!!!
wgt dee
congrats, dee!!!
gratz Dee
ty so much... thot this was a toughie
been chatting and reading so much my grid is not getting done lol
ata, I just had a snack -- some of your bloater paste on melba rounds, yum!
jilli, April 23 it is :) Isn't it great we have themes going up that far?
well, off to check email... have a great day / eve !!! hugs to all
mmmmm!
*poof*
lol cjmomma, I know!
sprite, please change it -- April 23 is Shakespeare's bday (another idea?)
yes, there's a huge mural of them along the 400 block of Morrison St SW
lol ok jilli...
havn't learned all the lingo...when you all talk about being a fish...?
april 23th is st georges day!
a fish is a word that should've been obvious
meaning the word is not right?
like today's ch7
oh
k I have that all the time then !
it means a word that you should have seen, because it is very common... worthy of a fish slap :)
happens to me all the time
ok, jilli and Ata, done.
and fireworks at last
same thing, isn't it, ata?
yay
wtg hugs
congrats, hugs!!!
Shakespeare and George don't mind sharing
YAY hugs!!!
wtg Hugs!
thank you - not a nice grid... I prefer the flowing ones
well, off I go... g'nite everyone
there, added cufflinks to my wishlist
g'night hugs!
night hugs
sleep well, Hugs
forgot about the 2AM bump, i did
Oh I like them, seain
i thought they were rather nifty
that is because you haven't played at this time for so long, dear seain. Great to have you here today.
i currently own one pair, in gold and lapis, so a silver set would be nice
yes, i love being here at this hour
I do also but the lack of sleep isn't helping me get anything done! lol
it takes atlantic richfield company ,but not plural
poor cjmomma!
yes, lack of sleep muddles the mind, it does
and causes weight gain
it sure does
one is obviously enough!
that is does but I've been fortunate so far...crossing fingers not to jinx myself
lol
but one is the loneliest number that there ever was
awwwwww how sad.
well that's why atlantic richfield merged with BP!
LOL ata
lol!
it's weird going to BP and seeing both Amoco and Atalntic Richfield logos there
they kept Amoco Silver and Amoco Gold for mid-grade and premium brands
watching conan repeat; japan has developed large busted dancing robot for lonely guys, gone the days of the blow ups
yes, always a bit odd
lol nDan. How weird.
how japanese
hi sprite; still waiting for the pup?
pup? you're getting a puppy, sprite?
oh yes! Should be born in the early days of February. Let me find the link of the parents.
http://www.sweetdevotioncavalier.nl/pu ppies.htm
there's one gas station on US 1 in Woodbridge, VA that i've see go from Standard to American to Standard to Amoco to BP, yet it never changed company affiliation.
the lady dog should have been ready to mate 3 months ago and she decided to take her own sweet time :D Now the timing is better for us too.
it all ends up depending on what the local customers think of as the "standard / premium" brands. whatever that is, they keep that logo
hi all
usually
hi mamabook
pretty! and i've actually heard of kooh-i-noor.
adorable; do you get choice of boy/girl?
hi, mamabook
yes we do, nDan, but I don't care about the gender. I just want the sweetest and smartest dog in the litter :)
huh. i'll have to see if premium is stil Boron in Ohio at BP
you have, seain? Wow.
and you'll end up with the cutest whether it's sweet or smart or what :P
my aunt is a breeder who used to show - she breeds Welsh Springer spaniels, which is why i've heard of him
and it also depends whether a brand is particularly known for 1 thing - like Castrol was kept as a brand for all their lubricants
lol Ata, you think so? I think I am a sucker for smart. They are all going to be cute, no doubt.
the shop i go to recently changed from Castrol synthetic to Mobil1.
that is great, seain. He is a very gentle dog too, just like Dana. She wasn't ready for him the first day that they put them together, and he just licked her eyes and was so sweet.
really? wow. see, all brands come to an end :(
my friend ben's dog is smart outdoors, but not so much indoors.
not a bp shop, so you know
you are a phantom today, seain, lol
oh, so i be. fran is in there for real
god I miss Fran
i'm sure their offspring wil be as sweet as they are
and we all miss her, sprite :)
me too
offers (((hugs)))
group hug!
yay!
hugs are nice, cjmomma!
they always help me!
ok, dog pesting. bbl! I like this grid
me too, Ata. Enjoy doggy!
I've got to get to bed sometime.. so I will see you all soon! g'night :)
g'night, cjmom! rest wel
night cjmomma, sweet dreams to you
ty and enjoy the grid
how are the kids, sprite?
quite good, seain! Tim is enjoying his new school. His voice is 2 octaves lower now, most of the time, he is taller than I and trying to be more mature than Methusalem.
LOL fitting to his age :D
do they get their chocolate initials?
Caya is very cuddly, starting a growing spurt as well now. She has an inflamed eye atm, but the doc prescribed eyedrops and we trust it will be over soon.
sprite -- what happened about Caya's eyelid?
they have, on Sinterklaas eve, nDan
oh, you just answered :)
oh, so she's doing better, and continuing to heal! good news :D
Caya... that's a beautiful name
doc wanted to know if she had trouble seeing and if it was restricted to one eye. After that, she prescribed an eyedrop medicine. It seems to work already, jilli.
sprite, I just went to your breeder's website -- I see they do all the appropriate tests and the dogs look beautiful
oh, wunderbar about the meds
caya is a walking he5. Both kids are.
any idea what's in the meds, sprite?
poor dear has had a tough fall
oh yes jilli, that was one reason to pick this breeder. They are not in it for the money and they take the breed very seriously. They want to make sure only disease-free dogs are used for breeding, so the breed will become healthy again.
yes she has, nDan. That virus took out a big chunk of her and left her vulnerable to other viruses, I think. She loves to sit and cuddle with me a lot. But she is also enjoying her clubs and sports again, so I think she is on her way to getting better.
who are you talking about, nDan?
it is an antibioticum, jilli, that much I know
ndan was commenting on caya, jill
oh, I see -- I thought you meant someone has had a tumble, lol!
we are to use the eyedrops until the inflammation is gone, then for 48 more hours after that.
no um on the end in English, sprite ;)
oh dear, you are so right. Antibiotic. Or -tics. Will I ever le5?
phantom -- lantern
i try to avoid the absent letter as often as possible jilli
well, it's half past 3 here, i ought sleep
oh I love finding the ch biggie!
you ought to, seain. Are you gonna do it too?
yes, dc
i am, i'm waning. i usually awake about 5 LOL
lovely to see yall, and special treat seeing you sprite
be well, everyone
oops. Go and get those 2 hours then, dear one. Sleep well!
good night.
same vice versa, seain
sprite, you inspired me to find the ch biggie and I actually did!
woooot jilli! Good job!
{evaporates toward the back of the house}
night dc -- have a good 2 hours -- or maybe you don't have to get up at 5 this time?
and fireworks. Good grid, with some bad ones but also some very rewarding finds :D
nite
night nDan
wow, sprite!!!
I'm speechless -- or if I were maybe I'd get more of the grid done
*giggles* Chatting is half of the fun oftentimes, jilli. Do you need any clue before I leave?
only about 153, sprite, so never mind!
ok :) Then I bid you all adieu. Sleep well, enjoy your day and this grid, and be well. *hugs*
Bye sprite -- have a wonderful day :)
Ambition reached -- NBT
and so to bed -- goodnight, if there's anyone here!
evening all :)

Morning, afternoon, evening (wherever you are) Babblers. So far this grid looks a lot nicer than yesterday's.
Hi Sally, I am finding it harder, but have only been here a few and am getting ready to go to work.

Ok, but have tendonitis in my right shoulder which makes it difficult to get dressed, undressed, - but also to do housework! So not all bad.
Cold here. Hard frosts in the mornings, and sometimes all day.
yeoch. I found out why my internet is stuffed due to my darling b.f downloading too much stuff. Could strangle him but he brought me home Chanel No5 from a supplier so he lives
Just seen your cupcake in a mug recipe - sounds great. Must have a word with my girls since they aren't laying in this cold weather.
Sorry about your internet.
That is ok Sally. These things happen. I have told him time and time again don't download.

Heating is on 30 here
omg. now I feel warm compared to that!
It's never really less than -1 or -2 here, but down on the beach the windchill just kills
Yup, windchill was -22 here yesterday. Glad the wind died out, for now at least.
Well our thermostat is bodgy
Frtunately I don't have to walk the spawnlings.... :D

Good day to all.
morning scrabs
G'd morning Scrabbler!
howdy Scrabbler
hi scrabs
Has anyone heard from Esprit d'Jean about her beloved Rocky?
Clue please for la 5/10

Yippee, kje!
exactly! snarfing is important
Hi anyone i missed
i just snarfed 3 cookies... had to... they would be stale by the time i got home... so really, it was a mission of mercy - no cookie should die without fulfilling its purpose
The kids snarfle when I lock them outside to play. :D
I was on call and had no calls overnight! Yippee for not being interrupted during a great dream.
Thanks got it and finished!
oh i love it when you try a word that you think won't work, and then it does!
Excellent Scrabbler!
yay scrab
Congratulations gran!
woohoo gran!!!
woot for gran
Cookies MUST be eaten before their expiration time. I often ask at bakeries if their triple chocolate cake is about to expire, because I could save them from throwing it out.
congrats, gran !!!
Yahoo for gran!!
it's only polite. food wastage is a bad thing
LOL scrab
I've made not one, not 2, not 3, but 5 batches of iced sugar cookies since Friday. They're not spawnlings, they're vultures....
And I wouldn't want rats to proliferate behind the store, eating tossed food.
i've seen some of these cookies ... you were having fun, weren't you, lori?
one good thing about this grid... you can enter lots of garbage and it takes it
Scrabler our bakery always runs out of stuff
We were like that as kids when our mom made cookies, brownies, cupcakes--the 4 of us would wipe out her hard work within minutes.
so does ours :(
lolol, Uni's "Gingerbread men and women...." I laughed so hard when she sent that
s's done :)
it was quite qute brilliant!
I'm beginning to see the light!
I thought she was crazy, but now I know it. :D
yay - just found my last 8... all by my lonesome
I told her there may be a niche market for them. Extra College money.....
Nicely done kje
good morning. Does anyone know how EspritedJean made out yesterday? I have been thinking about her all night
wtg, kje.. am hunting my last 8 now
I just asked too, Trif--we are waiting to hear from Jean.
Go Aloy!
woot woot for kje...
absolutely! she's a genius
found it.. time for a barbeque now that we have the fuel.. (-:
I have no 8's, but there is time for me to find them....or someone could clue me.
Bye Aloy--in Florida now?
2 of the ca8s are related to the heel bone scrab
lol, that was a clue, Scrabs... yes, thankfully in Fla now
nice one, aloy - I got to start this puzzle with an 8!
(-: glad you got it, Trifioso
ca 8 --- miner's safety friends
Aha, I have ch8 now and working on the heel bone now.
all 4 8 start with c
TY, BR!!
Tweet, BabbleRabble.. tweet Tues to you
is this grid hand generated, or does a computer do it? seems funny there should be such a big block of unusable letters....
Ahh, heel bones. Thanks kje, gots 'em. 8's done
the other ca8 is what the cat ate that people look like when they are smug... kinda like ata
Pax vobiscum
computer
hey BR
I look like a ca8? O.O!
E pluribus unum, BR. Quid pro quo. Sine qua non. (I LOVE speaking Latin. )
et cum spiritu tuo
non sum feline, sum est piscis
non noblis solum nate
Caveat emptor
mea culpa
caveat emptor
Hey, Aloy and Trif, you know real Latin stuff.
non illegitimate corobundum
Mia Farrow!
E tu, Brutus.

Ah, yes, I agree, Ata. (translate please?)

Good one, Trif.
Hi jacq
hi jacq
LOL I did Latin for *years*. 8 years? ish
waves before diving into the grid
in all Gaul, there were three provinces..
hey anyone i missed
I am still working on the second heel word. Adjective form?
if i knew what an adjective was i could answer that
It's a hymn about Jerusalem
morning herin!
different vowel ending
end with a diff vowel, Scrabbs
Change the last vowel.
Wow, Ata---a great way to understand so many other languages.
two forms of plural scrab
Trifs I have been spoilt
Oh, that was easy. TY. I was about to look in my Scrabble dictionary.
TY for helping me with the 8s.
what has mr. wonderful done now? :)
once again... i am reminded what nerds we all are
lol, kje.. am proud to be one too
I used to be able to translate latin pretty well, I'm not so good now. Ancient Greek I did for 5 years, which was fun
One of the suppliers (he works in a multi million dollar co) that supplies stock brought in Christmas presents for just him. Remy Martin Cognac in a really pretty box and Chanel for me
I was so happy last night - got my sister to wander in here and give it a go. Hope she comes back
Chanel!!!! wow....how cool is that?
Very.
so let's see, he drinks the cognac, you get all chanel'ed...cue barry white!
lol, Trifioso.. the stage is set
Having resmelt it outside of a store it doesn't smell like cat wizz. There is way too many women that drown themselves in the stuff
lol, if you can smell your own perfume you're wearing way too much
Narnia fans know Charn is a word.....
HAHA. I want to try the Cognac my self.
Seriously way to many drown themselves in ti
i think i've tried charlatan 4 times
yes. and canter
and reach
I cant find those 8s mmmmfph must look harder
one is either a small yellow bird or a group of islands
kje, will you be Babbling from Europe?
and reason. Phantom grid....
Another consonant-constipated grid.
You know when you can see a word but not ?
drftrs should be a word
it's a good vanity plate
Where is Lady Natts? Her name is in the grid.
at least there are no re words, i hate those
oh, here's something fun - tertiare, age 9, leveled the first "I hate you and I want to go live with DAD" at me last night. loooooovely. I am sure it is the first of many, but oh, i was gutted
awwwwwwww *hugs trif*
oh Tri, those hurt like hell
huggggggggggggs
Trifs i told my mum she wasn't my real mum. it hurts Kids are mean
i know, right???
Expect it, Trif, whenever a kid doesn't get what they want. Just tell her you love her and that she may decide.
i did worse, i wrote my mum a letter and stuck it under her bedroom door, she kept it for years
All part of the package. If it yields results for them, expect much repetition.
even now i cry when i thinkuch that had to have hurt
Be calm, compassionate and loving.
thanks al.
just tell her you love her, even after she's been mean
not only will it confuse her for a bit, but it will make her think
Yippee, I checked the balance on my mortgage---$1140 and the house is mine!!
yes, they are so mercurial. ten minutes later I am her best friend....
wtg Scrab!!!!!
very cool scrabs....nice xmas present to yourself
whoopee, Scrabbs.. party time!
help with the CA 8s please WOOOOOOT Scrabbler
Awesome Scrabbler, when's the mortgage burning party?
wow, scrabbler - excellent! are you going to pay it off, or let it run over? i know some people do that to keep getting the tax break
$415.30 every 2 wks--so almost there!!
ca8, group of islands, holiday destination for many going to spain
i don't know how to clue the other two i have i just kinda stumbled on to them
I will pay it off, then invest +/or pay off other debt. My goal is to be debt free someday.
The first two ca8s start with something that sounds chalk-like.
ca8 - three letters of Los Angeles'State, three letters of American's tin, finish off with two vowels at the beginning of a direction on a compass.
ta
haz and glitterata!
The second ca8/50 is exactly the same, save for the last vowel, change it to another.
Hi there, Haz !
Thank you
Hello there! Just passing through on my way to the ironing board.
what is an ironing board? (-:
Hi Hazel
Ironing Board? What Company do they run?
it's that think you stick in the cupboard and ignore
Another 8 is ch8/55 - a means of heating or artistic medium.
hi there hazel
Iironing board, iron? I think I have those somewhere in the house.
and....that's the 8s for me! thank you so much haz
An ironing board. Friend of self-scheduling domestic engineers who don't like wrinkles.
Me too, but no idea where
got 2xca8/50 & ch8/55, what's the last 8?
I use Oil of Olay for my wrinkles.
You're welcome.
my mum even iron's dish cloths
ugh. I need a new ironing board, actually, and the thought of going to shop for one is just too depressing, isn't it?
I use sandpaper
There's a ca 8/45
i know where mine is...i can't get to it...when we moved in 10 years ago..husband thought..i'll put it beside frezer..I cannot get it out without unloading my 25cu foot freezer and moving the freezer...not enough room to get it out from behind
ca8/45
oh, hello everyone by the wan (I'm sooooo rude!!!)
put my wrinkles in the clothes dryer for a few minutes
ca8/45 - birds or a group of islands off the coast of Africa.
my mum irons underwear
hey ishult
:) @ Aloy
hi Ishult
G'd morning Ishult
i found that a damp sponge in the drier with a dry shirt makes it come out nice and crease free
jacq - I iron teatowels. I draw the line at socks and towels.
ty...all the 8's done at least
hi there ishult
doesn't quite work with jeans but who cares
what about underwear?
wow Haz, really? (calls for the men in white coats)
i love the smell of freshly ironed clean clothes....
that good afternoon here LoriP
ok so there is 3 Ca 8 and a ch 8?
I draw the line at ironing.
can i show off my oldest grand-daughter please, my icon pic is her after she got her hands on the bum cream
No, I don't do underwear. Tea towels are easy - and it sterilises them so that they're ready for use in an emergency. Anybody could crash outside my house and I'd be there with my sterilised tea towels.
never mind
Hi Ishult
Jac, she is lovely!
Thank you
hey scrabbler
she is a star
thanks
Why do kids do that
lol jacq, what a mess. My sisters now grown youngest, got in to a FULL jar of Vaseline at that age. Took her all day to degrease the child, and the crib, and the......
THank you Has
lol
too be truly sterilised, you'd have to vacuum seal each one after ironing *prim*
At least that beats the paint with poo kids do
Haz, 'yer so practical. Emergency preparedness through ironing. You should offer a course.
Very cute pic, Jacq! A classic!
yes she's done that too, not quite photo album material
ty
Hazael, your preparedness is amazing!
secondo did it with oil based paint. had to wipe her down with terps!
eww
*proud gran*
time for me to scoot.. fun chatting with you all.. see you next grid. Have a T-riffic Tuesday! bye..
OKay, off I go to finish the task in hand. Cling film standing by for the sealing. (You do know I'm joking?)
Have a great day Aloy!
Laters Haz.
I have heard of a kid that was blue as the paint wouldn't come off. Thank you haz for your clues
About the sealing..... Bye for now!
yes, but we also know you are going to look at the cling film and think, well,,,,maybe.....
byeeeeee!
Second nephew fell asleep while playing with "Silly Putty" when aged 3---he awoke with it melted on to his head/hair---> brush cut the next day. My sister told me to never give the boys Silly Putty again.
You're welcome for the clues. Bye!
Bye Aloy
She'll use Ziploc bags, you just watch and see.
just thinking that, lori
Bye ALoy
Hazel may actually order sterilized towels from a surgical supply company.
Clue for the CH 8 please (sorry about being densa today)
Black chunks placed on stocking s on Xmas for naughty girls and boys
briquette
Never heard the one about the Christmas stockings Scrabbler. An American custom?
oooh, adele on radio....LOVE her
oh for the love of FISH ME
Yep, a threat from parents if the kids are naught: "Santa will put ch8 in your stocking if you misbehave."
my gran's sister got c4 in her stocking in scotland when she was a kid - she was running around saying there was no santa. Coal

Ok, thanks. A new one on me.
ok, I need to go and get warm. bbl for my last far-too-many!
sorry - pb for me - was supposed to say santa CLAUS
Bye Atalante. hugs to Hobbit and Sily
I was quite amazed the other day. I was working in a charity shop and a family came in. With a girl about 10-11. While her mum was shopping she sat in the changing room and in there was a set of steps. She called her mum over and with a straight face she said ' thats my stepladder, I once had a real one but it left home when I was three'!!!I think I met a p[otential comedian!!
Hi Deeha
LOL Deeha.
hi all
hi there deeha
Kids are funny and they don't even know it.
2 stinking words left
HI Deha
I am stuck with 125 to go--not seeing anything.
And, I must get going to work. Enjoy the day everyone!
I amn determined to get below 100 before I treat myself to lunch!!
oh, scrabs, by the way - we ran out of bunny litter the other day, and primo thought we could try making our own by running the old newspaper through the paper shredder, and filling the pan with that. bun bun is having a FINE time strewing the shreddies everywhere. so much for that money saving idea!
byebye scrabs
Trifs bunnies love the paper. Its great for burrowing

wow...is a quiet chog today....
A difficult grid
it was a bit sticky..yeap..but...as kje would tell u..i tend to like those :S
I found the first part easy, but am much slower on the last 50 words :-(
hello all - who is Mr Roker?
he is a pop weatherman in USA...hmmmm...
short of mr alda first name
Roker has same first name as Mr. Gore :)
ok got the name ty just need to find the words
there u go..mr gore...brain fart on my part
hows u inge....
morning Babblers :)
hiya everyone.....it's rare that all the 8's start with the same letter
mornin babblers! :)
hi mm
hi nono, mm and eva
that must mean the all start with c? I have the two that carlee clued a bit ago ending in vowels
then the mine gas sensors of years gone by
and BBQ fuel
saw that clue guess i better go google it
are 3 of the 8s similar? i have a CH8 and 2 CA8s that are almost the same...
the other ca8 is a yellow bird

back from the bus stop shuffle. any word from jean yet???
havent seen her yet this morning trif
okay, thanks. I am so concerned for her....
I know, have been thinking of her since yesterday morning
its really a sad situation
what has happened?
she fears she has to put her beloved pet down
oh dear :( :( :(
Oh, that's so sad.
she made the decision to do it, called the vet, took the dog to the car, and the battery was dead. that had never happened to her before. talk about a sign from the universe!
dang I was not aware of that fact Trif
urgh
phantom: charlatans
there is a fire truck here
i hope they are for across the street, i don't want to have a fire
a fire truck?
yes, the men are going in across the street
hopefully a false alarm
most likely
I thought you meant in the grid :-)
new haven sent six police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance when this woman got slightly tapped by a car going about 5 mph and she fell down cause she was oldish. she was pretty ok and going to go to the health center.
so you see, i don't think too much of it when i see emergency vehicles around here
that was a bit of overkill with six police cars
yeah. just a smidge.
firetruck and ambo are pretty routine for any auto accident but 6 police cars ... they must have not had anything else to do
tax dollars on display!
yep !
good morning all
i am amazed that there are 183 words in a grid with only one vowel in the upper right 4x4 subset
and i am pleased that i have found two nice lovely normal 8 letter words
hello my friends - this grid looks a bit daunting - no?
hey, green :-)
actually it's not so bad
there are only so many places you can go, narrows it down a bit.
and hello, Ringo!
name that proper noun! french cathedral city
chartres?
ding ding ding!
:-D
phantom: canasta
i have greyed the corners!
and Mr. Sagan and Jean-Paul!
go, hursh!
mr sagan counts though, so can't use him in NTPN
true . . .
and, of course, the man of the season!
sinder klaas
Pere Noe
*Noel
lol
Dr. No and Father Noe
:-D
anyone have both F's? i just have the college boy society
gotta poof for a while - breakfast with the brits
same here, hursh
later, trif
change the last letter to a vowel hurshy
babblet, hursh--just got it
bugger, i didn't look right
latin plural of monk title
i'm like the opposite of zoolander, apparently
ok, what about the upper T, have 2 tr5/10.
yep
oohhh, in the proper noun arena: italian opera house!
la scala?
ding ding ding
:-
i know . . . too obvious
no, it's good
so often when people pick up on the game, i want to encourage this initiative to participate, but i don't know the answer
really? hard to believe, hursh!
well it is true nevertheless
gotta run -- BBL!
i'm thtuck
al4/4 sec one please?
mr. alda
Good day, fellow homo sapiens!
hi Judi
oh sure, just assume everyone playing is human. how speciesist.
mr.alda?
you know, hawkeye on MASH
grrrr i dont watch mash lol
Pardon my faux pas. I should include the monkeys as well.
well, he was also in "What Women Want"
and he guest starred on ER for an episode or two
and... what else...
i'm sure he's done lots of things
the west wing, hurshy
lol i still dont have it ....do u have an easier way to clue it?
ah, there ya go (i didn't watch that one)
He narrated some science thing a few years ago. Can't remember if it was a NOVA series, or NG...
its a very common first name
indeed, i have an uncle by that name.
Uncle Alda?
could I have some help with the en7 please
en7: keep spellbound
thank you!
I've always wondered at the spelling of that word--why doesn't it have a double consonant at the end, given its derivation?
cl 5,16
a coffee cl***
There sure are a lot of ar/21 words in this grid!
Lynn did you find your al4?
thanks for the hint..i got it
it does have a double consonant, jan, this is just an alternate spelling.
and i don't see why some things can't be more ar6 than other things
Me neither. Many of these words are far ar/21-er than others.
so, i've got ca8 and ch8, what do other people have?
there are 3 different ca 8 words
The other 2 are ca's--both ar/21 and both similar with different endings. (I slunk off to a2z to find them...)
they are NOT normal wormals words like the other two 8's
And, in penance, I looked up the first--latin for heel bone.
Normal has no place in Babble.
can you clue them, jan or wv?
c + mr gore + metal container with a vowel ending
they both come before the other "normal" ca 8 and hboth have latin endings
two vowels at the end of each
thank you very much both of you, have got them!
can i get a clue on tr 6,18?
aha, i must need that word
I'm not mean...I just don't like you
good morning
i'm assuming that's a clue :)
:)
insult? irony? *thinks*
why take it personal hurshy?
OMG just spoke with HR at probable new employer. I interviwe Friday at 11 GMT-5, and i really think the interview is mostly perfunctory! I am so excited!
good morning :D
wtg dc!!
what's the job, dc? will you have better hours?
That's great, dc!! Fingers and toes crossed!
Actually, that is the saying on my night shirt
And major points for using the word "perfunctory" in a sentence.
good morning
with the Global Onlne Enrollment System/NEXUS/SENTRY Helpdesk, working M-F 7:30-4:30 with holidays off and great benefits
i used the word effusive when talking to my mom recently and she didn't know what it was :(
yea, he spelled it right, but misspelled interview!
Hi, Flosey, Phae, et al.
why, ty, judy :)
judi, sorry
Hope this new job doesn't expect perfect spelling...;)
wtg dc, positive vibes going your way
my brother-in-law had an interview this morning as well, i have not yet heard how it went.
hello, phae and flosey and judi et al :)
no phae, it does not. like current job, it does expect functionality in Spanish and in English.
i will call my sister.
best to him with that, hurshy
Well, I am going to assume you have those qualities :)
need coffee, brb
yes, i'm the Spanish speaker on my current team :)
no habla espanol
most don't, which is why they pay me to do it :)
i want to habla espanol
i bought some books for learning it
but it's hard to discipline oneself to actually study when one doesn't have much opportunity to use it
Siempre hay de aprender. There is always to learn. RosettaStone, though expensive, works well
very true, hurshy
my mother is annoyed that she does not, as it would help where she lives.
i think this grid is starting to annoy me.
with you. i'm entereing stuff into lickety now
it's been annoying me for the last hour hurshy
I've hit the annoyance wall at 50 here.
thing is, it's annoying, yet, if i get the list, then i'll be bored after i'm done.
name that proper noun! nissan model
Gee, my tough luck. I'm being forced to go to a Police Chief's luncheon today. I'll be forced to sit among good looking men in uniform and eat high quality food. Sucks to be me.
:P
do enjoy, judi :)
i'll trade with ya Judi, you can sit here and have a sandwich with my hubby
I certainly will. Ordinarily, I wouldn't get to go to such things. As I am a lowly civilian secretary. However, the Sergeant begged off because he has to interview a child porn perv.
ick
should just lock the perv. up and forget about him
Ick, indeed. Dumb ar4/4 took his laptop into Staples to have it serviced. There was kiddie porn shortcuts all over the desktop.
does anyone have any scr words? or should i not bother looking for any?
not as of yet hurshy but i only have 3 sc words so far
as a fictional detective once said, "it's lucky for us criminals are stupid"
Don't know Hurshy. I have 11 S words left.
i've not found any yet, but also only have 3 SCs so far
It's true. Criminals are stupid. It makes for great job security.
I have 4 sc's
although nothing beats the guys who once broke into a house, found a polaroid, didn't know about them (i think this was early 90's), took a pic of themselves, thought it didn't work cause it was all grey, took off, leaving the pic in the house they robbed.
oh thats funny hurshy!
There are 11 sc's. I have found 6 so far.
how funny, hurshy
they musta been young
i don't know, if they were young, they probably would have known how polaroids worked! they'd been out for years.
but they ae not as common as they were decades ago
right but, this was like 15 years ago, when they were still relatively common
true
I know they don't even make Polaroids any more. I doubt film is available either.
I remember BEGGING for one for my birthday. I did get one. Took the suckiest pictures ever.
howdy everyone:)
I had a few of them over the years. The pictures did not hold up well at all
hiya, cross
hi Crossy!
talking bout cameras? 3 years ago i had to rush to get all my undeveloped 110 film done cause they were phasing it out;/
And the film was very expensive. Huge cartridge that you had to load like an 8-track. Amazing how clunky and crude it seems compared to the technology we have now.
polaroids specifically :) oh, what bother cross
is it still snowing there Crossy? the webcams look a little blurry
so true, judi
4 more inches last night:/
my mom worked on computers back when they took up a whole room and you had to feed in your programs on cards and when you had bugs in the system it was bc you LITERALLY had bugs in the system.
4 more this evening:((
Hiya, Crossy! Better you than us!
I remember those hurshy! The place i worked had one
hurshy those would probably the old havc systems;)
hvac*
i saw one of those at CSC long ago on a field trip
LOL, Hurshy. I remember my father talking about "Univac". The dinosaur of all computers.
what do you get if you cross a tse tse fly with a mountain climber?
*thinks*
*sigh. I feel old talking about Univac. I remember having to use manual typewriters in typing class in HS.
a guy who falls off mt. kilamanjaro while trying to swat the tse tse fly?
Unknown - one's a vector and the other's a sc6.21
we used both typewriters and WordStar when i wis in HS
We had to use manual typewriters in middle school
er, was, not wis
we had typewriters too! not so very long ago
oh gosh Judy I'm from that era also
no, no SCR words
Yep, dc. 1/2 of the semester was on the manuals, the other 1/2 on electric. Man, did we bash the hell out of those electrics.
thanks dc
we had only electricts, but i still have a 1956 Tippa portable manual
I remember when the IBM Selectrics came out and you could change the font on the typewriter
Lol. "Portable". Bet it weighs a ton.
5 sn, or more?
oh yes, changing the ball out :)
5 SN is correct
only five hurshy
1 so?
yes, hursh
And dropping the ball, and having it roll across the floor - under your classmates desk.
oh that must have been funny judi
8 sc? :S
A trail of inky letters on the linoleum...
I remember the joy of the advent of backspace with white-out
I was working when they first came out, had the first one in our company
neat, nanette
did you have those little white-out sheets that you stuck between the key and the paper?
yes!!
yep sure did!
yep, and the rolling erasers - a sculpture of which exists in the NGA Sculpture garden here in DC, it's brush 'blowing' in the wind LOL
Yes, I remember the white-out sheets. The worked horribly. If you made a mistake, you were better off starting over.
i liked the tape-style dispensers for whiting out
*they*

Ata is, as always, a perfect angel. Best of the bunch.

i was wondering why you would have that otherwise :)
I might just like manhole covers! LOL
you MIGHT, but it didn't fit really with what else i know of you.
looooool. no.

Today's theme is manhole covers. Japan does it best.
ahhhh good little monkey, found it
Goodbye 72 Temple Owl! I will see you later on maybe
woot for nono
I could use a manhole cover...something to squash Emma with.
hi there minver...long time no see hun\
Hi carleekat! How are you doing? I'm home sick today
poor KoG! is she being a hellbrat?
no kitten squashing. it's yuletide.
Her teeth are growing in and her claws are sharpening, she seems to feel the urge to remind me of this many times a day by sharpening on my arms.
kitten squashing is character forming
ohhhh *that* stage. enjoy!
But not too sick to babble. I did not go to sleep until 5:30 this morning. Could not see myself getting up in an hour for a 12 hour day. I was just thinking about a nap. Feel guilty babbling here when I should be sick
uni - don't tolerate that.
I made Christmas punch, eggnog and gingerbread men! I am full of yuletide.
forgive me - watched "it's me or the dog" last night. that british girl who trains owners.
hope u are feelign better minver...( am at work..so may be slow to respond)
what is in your christmas punch uni?
sorry to hear, min. feel better soon!
Thanks carleekat. I am going to do what sick people do now and go take a nap.I'll be back later on maybe.

hello Uniquity! long time no see! have to go soon, lazing around home this morning.
martin is a showcat
asalaam, carlee
just couldn't wake up!
i show him to people and say, "look, it's a martin cat"
Ah, but every show cocker I have seen was dumb as a post because of breeding. Also usually quite ill.
working cockers are cockers really, but they are somewhat different in shape and size, and they are bred to be working dogs
sounds yummy....
looooooool
Allo Stiddy!! How've you and the little Stids been?
i have what seems to be a perfunctory interview for the new job on Friday at 11 gmt-5
this is the advantage of working cockers. They don't have a lot of the stupidness / anger issues / inbreeding of show cockers
there he goes again
I just got a bottle of wine..that is a holiday blend of white wine, cranberry concentrate, orange extract and clove..dying to try making it
hi hurshy
however, you have a more bouncy dog, usually!

oh here's a great story!
A young Chinese woman was left partially deaf following a passionate kiss from her boyfriend. The 20-something from Zhuhai in Guangdong province arrived at hospital having completely lost the hearing in her left ear, said local reports. The incident prompted a series of articles in the local media warning of the dangers of excessive kissing. "While kissing is normally very safe, doctors advise people to proceed with caution," wrote the China Daily.

here in VA we can buy wine and beer at the grocery store, drug store, g as station, min mart or what
so I should think :)
in maryland and dc, it's not like that. must go to liquor store. in MD, one grocery store per chain per county may sell wine and beer.
in DC, they give store licenses on a case-by-case basis
so, you need a new license each time your sell a case of beer?

he used a special kind of fresh-water algae... I will try to ask when he pauses. Some students just know SO MUCH!
Ata, you name was in yesterday's New York Times crossword puzzle. It was spelled with an "a" at the end though
he just said almost any algae can work, though. but his experiment used just the one.
VII!IIIIIIII!!!III!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I !I!I!!!
ooooh :D go me :D
Hi Vi!
hay vi!
oops. HEY vi! or hi vi!
kwaker? Do I know you?
love that the left-over algal biomass can be used for animal feed!
By any chance?
algae can be used for *anything* lol
Yes, you do - pay attention to the name...
oh. chlamydomonas, chlorella, haematococus, dunale.... he switched slides too fast
I figured as much! lol Welcome to Babble!
now he is describing his research...
Chlamydomonas! Yay!!
You are awesome - I'm loving this!
he used the Chlorella protohecoides for his experiment
ok, explain, Vi!
Hey, everyone, kwaker is a friend of mine that I have brought into the Babble of no return!
makes sense, I guess
hi kwaker!
oh dear.... the experiment failed.
Wah ha ha ha! (evil laugh)
he had problems with his media, didn't have enough trace minerals or any B12.
I am well within the vortex since Sunday.
Hi everyone!
that's what expts are there for
middle ne 5/10, please?
hello kwaker, and welcome to babble!
Although I cannot approve of your spelling, Mr BKul!
nm -- another bablet
well it sounds the same!
well yes, but we also learned (several times this quarter) that sometimes the failures are opportunities for even greater learning.
usually the case, stiddy. things can work too well and be an anticlimax
success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm
What grade is this student, stidmama? Sounds pretty sophisitcated.
He is a remarkably articulate, self-possessed, capable young man. only a couple years older than my elder son, he really will go far in life.
I'd like clues for the 8's please, from katie :-p
ne + your hand is attached to the wr***
unfortunately, all those mean little in academia, most of the time
ca8, 50 x2 is the latin name for the heel bone, opne is singular the other is plural
jean? how are you?
I have really enjoyed this program, and will miss it next quarter. BUT ... I am also really looking forward to the linguistics program I will be in starting in January. That's more my field
Hey Vi, can I help it if I am down with my bad self?
Oooh, go linguistics!
I'm still feeling drained. I didn't do it yesterday
yes, but at our school (see profile and icon) students have great encouragement and are often first author on papers.
*hugshugshugs*
Yeah, that's you, kwaker. You're so bad! =P
Thanks to all for your good wishes. Wouldn't you know, I have to go... but I'll be back! (I hope that's a promise and not a threat.)
YES! will be studying lushootseed some (the local native language)
tyty. I don't know if you were around when I came back and said my car would not start, dead battery
oh Esprit! *sad and worried mama look*
I took that as a call from the governor
see you soon kwaker
as they should be! but 1 paper does not a career make. Academia doesn't depend on cleverness or papers
See you later, kwaker! No matter how you try to get away, Babble will draw you back!
:-D true, but the encouragement is wonderful. Evergreen sends a HUGE number (by percent -- we're a small school) to medical schools and grad schools like Harvard and such...
oh - we're still talking undergrad level? I thought you were talking grad students
oh no -- undergrad, I am doing post-bac work right now
encouragement is very nice. Government grants don't give a stuff how much encouragement someone had :P Academia is a place of disillusionment, maybe
will apply to the master's in teaching program for next year
oh ok, they've still got a few years doing their PhDs to get disillusioned then looooool
academia can truly SUCK. but if you love your subject, I think it's not bad. Me? I want to teach. That makes all this bearable
What/who do you want to teach, stidma?
apparently there is someone who proposes that some biofuels can actually be carbon Negative...
10 :)
it's not that bad? lol. the problem with academia is that you can love your subject and still not be able to work in that field because of money / placements / tenure issues at universities / people not liking your PhD supervisor etc
I want to teach middle school humanities (english and history), but also will be qualified to teach elementary school
8
Go, cybernan, go!
wats good people
Oh, I LOVE middle school! That would be awesome.
and when i say academia, I mean university level research / lab research etc. teaching at other levels, working for the government etc are different matters
middle school sucks
oh -- I wouldn't get a PhD for the world... my friend with her chem fud stays home with the kids. The only jobs available were in industry, and FAR from where she and her husband live.
stfu snoop
`thats sad

they all start with a man's name, daniel
thank you
I got them...thanks so much
gosh, every word is hard work now
you are very welcome. Stupid grid today, lots of pretend words. This is the hardest grid I have seen yet. Granted, I am still a newbie
but finishing such grids is a real acheivement
what can dr. g actually do to quiet trolls, and do they happen often?
I was gonna say...GREAT! since this is only the 2nd grid i've worked on
he can block their account trifioso
he kills them :D
they happen in spurts. a lot during school holidays.
oh.....better mind my p's and q's then!
how about this presentation title: Microbial Fuel Cells
I've seen them twice and only been doing this a month now
that#s an interesting thing
gosh. can you sexy that up a bit?
that is why we are often reluctant to interact with new people ... trolls are almost invariably new names; though a few of us more established folk can be trollish at times
LOL trifioso! it is a good idea, using natural processes without toxic byproducts to slowly charge batteries
I think I might be a repeat offender, always in here moaning my jilted status....i had better shut it, I think
they tick me off cuase I can't use the clues fast enough! lol
okay, stid, let me think.....there has got to be a sexy title in there somewhere.....
I think you can see the difference between you and troll brats, trif!

wow - how much do you reckon it weighs?
I think pretty heavy
huh wat weights
I would not be able to lift it
i know, right? still, how cool!
could I have a clue for ar7 please?
yes, good iron work is always a joy to behold. :) even if it can't really be held
oooh, I just found an ar4 that really describes the trolls
don't have it yet flosey. This grid is like walking through waist high snow
ty, triflo
ar7 - football club called the gunners
indeed Trif, and how well I remember doing that
ar 7 -- a + avian type of soup and grain staple of asia" **ce
an 7
extension of an4/4 BR
I am done just can't type
well -- the lectures appear to be over for the day!
EARLY even --
most days they have been running TWO HOURS over time!
what a treat, stid
thanks for ar clue BR
sorry, stid, but I am a little out of your loop - do you give lectures, listen to them, or wait for others to return from them?
oh my, that's pretty heavy stid
flosey can't get that la word with your clue...sorry!
she's in school, triflo :)
I am finishing taking a course in microbial ecology
BR, can you try again on the AR 7?
flask, like a man's name for 1st LA5
ar7 - football club called the gunners. *gun*ners. place where guns are stored
hello
AHA! thanks BR and atalante!
hey harp!
hello harp, and ty ata
I clued the an 7 and typed ar 7
hello jane - lovely icon today!
hi harp!
wondered BR, didn't match but got the ar word anyway
thanks tri, it's me in the sixties?
lol. mine would be wilma flintstone, to whom I bear a striking resembllance
I seem to be having trouble with the 7s - need a clue for ca7 please
okay, we are dismissed, will babble from home later...
*poof*
bye stid - safe home! and flo, I am stuck on the same word, so I am no help
maybe dear soul with rescue us trif
well, we have the first four letters, right? hoping the monkeys will provide
yes
it ends with German 'valey' and builds from the sining
have been monkeying all round
just found it.
dc - are you talking to us?
yes, triflo :)
ends with " deck tje ***ls
oh, just SHOOT ME! I wasnt' even looking that way. God bless you
ca7 - epica***** fold of Asian people
VERY twisty grid today. the consonant-heavy ones usually are
thanks BR, will have to look up meaninig of that one
oh, good clue, ata :)
hmmm. I am dark and twisty, so you think this would be easier....
ty! I've been trying to use that all day!
sorry - use what?
this as a clue; ca7 - epica***** fold of Asian people
BR - thought for a minute you were using one of TJ's fishy Christmas carols
hey ata, wanna hear my good news of the day? I went to the bank to open a checking account in my own name, and I got a free cooler with a radio in it, to take to the beach in summer. yay me!
wow trif, that's great
i have to take my joy where i can find it....
shouldn't they give you something wintery??!!
oh, hey - has anyone seen "australia?" I was thinking of going tonight whilst the kids are at dinner with their dad, but I am not sure if it is a tear-jerker movie or not. Not really in the mood for more crying
no one here likes to think about the winter. most of us see it as something to be endured.
it's meant to be teary, someone was saying yesterday
sorry trif, haven't seen it
hmmm. well, staring at hugh jackman might be good
thats always good
anything has got to be better than just sitting here alone while they go out
I'm so excited, I got my digital tv box !
now maybe i can watch House!
yay harp! is that one of those converter things?
oh, cool, jane!
oh dear. someone I knew nearly 15 years ago came adn talked to me on facebook a few days ago, and now he's dropped his girlfriend because I'm talking to him again (apparently he never stopped loooooving me, even though we were only friends!)
yup, we get our tv through the airwaves so this will mean we can still watch tv next year....
ata! how do you feel about that????
good gracious, ata
sounds a bit forward to me ata
that's a silly move on his part for a short chat after so long a gap
wait a second - he isn't an irish guy from boston, is he?
Smug. She's bound to feel smug.
why do you suppose that, haz?
is the ta7 a plural?
Because she's Atalante. She is smug.
yes, jane
oh, that she. :">
thanks
I shouldn't laugh about it, but I am!
as is fitting, ata :D
and smug of course :P
I'd check out if he'd been spending time at the Home for the Bewildered. Not that it isn't understandable that he should retain feelings but 15 years and a short chat?
omg, this grid BLOWS. I finally get my sister to play yesterday, and then today we get THSI
she is NEVER gonna come back now
and if he's spent 15 yrs pining after you, goodness he needs mental help. Time to move on, dude.
You'd be surprised. Some people get addicted really quickly.
yes, i imagine i would be surprised. sigh
I'm obviously just soooo wonderful!!!
well, yes, but stil, sheesh.
I like men spending 15 years pining over me! it's ego-boosting!
sounds like gum on your shoe, to me, ata
He sounds like a bit of a dead loss to me. Hardly Action Man!
lol I don't intend on talking to him anymore, after that little outburst. not fair on him
sound plan, ata, and i agree, haz
Poor man. Another 15 years of pining ahead.
as
he *does* look good in a kilt thouh. He's very Scottish
Sounds rather creepy, if you ask me.
Scotsmen are quite intense.
here's hoping the woman he dumped is understanding. otoh, i bet he dies alone. and i agree there, FM, i was worried about stalking
hmmm - does he go native under that kilt????
*sigh* I'm used to it
Well! Fmitch is here! Good evening!
hi FM!
Evening one and all just waiting for the kettle to boil :)
Don't watch the kettle if you want it to boil.
mmmm tea, yes please!
could you upload me a cuppa, please?
ooh, tea, yes pls
LOL Pomegranate and plum, PG ?
haven;t you got any earl grey?
ahah! home early from school... doctor loaded me up with antibiotics and i want some tea too. nice to find you all here
*gets lots of mugs out of the cupboard, rootles about for cookies*
stid got out of school early too, welcome, dorens
hi all.
Back in a tick
Hello Dorens
*add some butter cookies to the spread*
i was sent home by my principal... she made me go to the doctor. i normally don't go for "just a cold" hi haz
i see, dorens. i do hope you feel better soon
FMitch mentioned a tick? We don't need ticks around.
not lyme disease! where??!!
i'm bound to dc, thanks
is there lyme in britain, too?
I don't know, but I'm spraying antiseptic just in case.
haz, someone mentioned recently that you hadn't been around much. glad to see you here... is this your regular time of day now?
very little, dc
she's been in the house for the bewildered
huh. i tought it was an East NA thing. here, lyme is quite common.
No, Dorens, I'm usually on earlier in the day. I was taking a little break in order to keep a low profile, so to speak. I was actually taking a masterclass in sewing but I knew no-one would believe me.
hahahaha *not laughing*
and by the powers of babble magic *serves tea to all*
oh, what fun, haz!
no why would they believe that? not dramatic enough
Many regulars know that I have needle and thread issues. We don't get on.
ty, FM *butter cookie anyone?*
'cos Haz hates anything to do with needles and threads!
yum dc :)
The Home for the Bewildered is MUCH more likely. Or helping George Clooney learn his lines.
machine sewing has little relation to needles, and only modederate relation to thread, really.
they get on MG and old trikes
did you bake them dc?
*like MG and old trikes
al4, no, dorens, store bought they are
then i can resist, thank you
Yoda dc is
oh machine sweing can be incredible when you freestyle it w/out the foot as part of an embroidery
*sits back down quietly*
oh, sorry. i do that sometimes thanks to great-grandma and grandma. their native language is OVS
*everyone stares at FM*
indeed it can, FM
(I'm picturing FM with a wild look in her eye and organ music blaring as she free-sews)
the phaaaaaantom of the sewing machine is here ....
*pulls blankie over head and hides*
ROFL haz :D
LOL!
OVS?
oh, new kitten pix in my flickr, by the by
haz that made me laugh out loud, literally, and then coughing fit ensued
Would Andrew Lloyd Webber be able to make something of it? He needs inspiration for Eurovision.
I'm just looking at Hobbit nad Spangle in their pics. How come Haz gets a quiet, clean, tidy spaniel?
object verb subject, mirror image of SVO of English
Oh Dorens. I'm a danger to babblers sometimes.
Greetings everyone. Been on lurk mode for awhile. Here on a mental health day from work.
howdy, met, how've you been?
I'm great, DC, and you?
hi met
Hello Met - and Esprit as well.
well, ty
dc what a sweet kitten, how long have you had him? Hi MF
Hi, Haz
Hello Esprit
um... about a month, FM
Dorens, long time no see
hi, esprit
hi FM
hi dc
hi all (lunchtime)
How are you, Esprit?
did my answer make sense, jean?
hi, pini
true met, we probably are on at different times
Hi again everyone, back with fresh baked rum-soaked currant, orange zest, shortbread cookies to go with tea
hi pini, jean
yes but I was not familiar with that
oh flosey that sounds terrific. can NOT resist that
Goodness! someone slammed the sliding door downstairs. Oh, their teenager must be home.
Hello flosey.
Oh flosey they sound devine!
I spent Thanksgiving week with Pugmama, and she has a new kitty, very sweet, but can be a mischievous brat, too.
oh, yummy, flosey, ty!
hi Haz, good to see you
Hi
You too, flosey.
yes, kittens and two-yr-olds are much alike in that, mut
hi, lady! :D
but new kittens are always so much fun
hi herin
herin had a new kitten last year, yes?
could I have a clue for ta6 please?
How are you?
Hi, herin, Flosey
Yes Dorens
hi Met
i'm well, lady. you should see me LJ over last severa days, and my flickr
Waves back to every one.
mi kitten's cute/annoying trick is to crawl into my arms while i'm typing
Hi Alby
Can't leave a bathroom door open around Pug's - the kitty (we've taken to calling her "Beast!!") shreds rolls of toilet paper faster than you can blink an eye!!
he grooms you back, lady
my cat has suddenly refused to come into the house - he's around, comes for food but waits for me to put it outside the door - don't understand, he still likes to be patted, etc. but outside only
May I please have a clue for ta5-10 the 1st? Thanks
yes, they are won to do dothat
plural of the food, peach
can
can
can
yes trif.. french dance
well, he knows he's welckme, flosey
lol
i didn' t know you danced, triflo
ta5/10 - add a consonant to the preceding ta4/4. Last two letters begin the Camelot King.
thanks Haz
Flosey have you changed anything in the house?
what the hell goes on with this chog sometime?
You're welcome.
dcseain, I have the food one as ta5-12 Is that the one you clued?
Can anyone please clue me for the 1st or 2nd ar6/21?? Thanx
I was trying to say "I can't wait til Christmas, and my son gets his new kitty."
sorry for teh 10 add a cons to the 4 before it
ar6/21 the second is a word meaning ordinary, the first is structured the same but ends in a different vowel.
no herin, but our neighbour/helper is here a lot, but cat seems very friendly with him
ar6 - places where sports events are held
Trifs it gets possessed. DC I haven't been able to open more than one tab as someone in the house used all my 5 gig to download a lot of crap
ar6 - past of the verb, as in he has ar6
Hi met. I don't see you around much
it's weird to me that you have download limits, an i forget that
TY DC and Haz
You're welcome, Met.
possessed? are we back with the Bewildered?
Hi herin. I mostly lurk, that is when I do get to play
The Bewildered aren't possessed, they're just adjusting to different standards of reality.
huh? don't get the past tense...past tense of the sports event place?
I don't. It drives me nuts. Luckily he redeemed himself by bringing home a gift from a work supplier. :D (which he didn't have to do)
no, two diferent ar6s, triflo
Hi Met fan from another Met fan
lady chanel!
No need to lurk Met
a bull ar5 plurals to ar6
i have officially been assimilated :)
a gift? how lovely!
hi, erica, glad t have you
Congratulations erica!
Hi bichon. I believe we've talked before, some time ago.
thx.
erica! looking PRO today!
or, met do you mean 1st 2 ar6s - they are different by final vowel - weird/old/mysterious
eh- yeah. looks can be deceiving.
Yes. Ata. He got a supplier a multi million dollar deal. They brought him Chanel for the lady (snort) of the house and Remy Martin for him
Yes, Met fan. Did you have a Bichon at one time?
bichon, welcome back
Sometimes. herin, if I don't lurk, it takes forever to do a grid.
Yes, a Bichon-poodle mix
nice of them to think of ou at all, lady
HI ERICA welcome
goodness me!
Hi Bichon
thanks herin!
I've been in and out. Trip to Costco and two dog walks
LOVE COSTCO!!!!!
my friend sally, a realtor, was kvetzing today about a lawyer she did a HUGE deal for, and he sent her a paltry $10 fruit assortment for a thank you. lovely
Trifs some companies don't know how to do business.
Kvetzing as in complaining?
yup
costco is HELL! but wonderful
trif- i work for attorneys. they are either generous or draining. no middle ground.
wow, I am betting there was some excitement at costco today!
It does help that the supplier walked in at the right time when his company had bought out the entire state of supplies
costco is the best - just don't like the lines at the end
Costco's not so bad if you go on a weekday, early. If you time it right, you can eat their samples for lunch
erica - do they handle domestic law, and are they in massachusetts, by any chance?
kvetching
So many people at Costco near me have no manners when manipulating the aisles, they park DEAD CENTER so you can't get around them, but I love shopping there for the bargains!!!!
Trif, why wa their excitement at Costco today? iT LOOKED PRETTY CALM TO ME
Bichon, that makes me laugh, I must admit. You buy food that is hermetically sealed in six ways, just in case it has been tampered with, and then eat food a stranger hands you in the store.
and their food is divine
trif- sorry, pal. i am in ((TEXAS)). domestic- do you mean American or family?
sorry for the caps, damned laptop
They never sample-ize anything I'd put in my mouth!!
family law. I need a shark of a divorce attorney, me thinks
I had a sample of instant mashed potatoes that tasted like the real McCoy
ew. i wouldn't work in that area if i was held at gunpoint.
Is Costco like Aldi?
i think i draw the line at instant mashed potatoes
Trif, did you mean kvetching as in complaining?
So do I
i can definitely check with some sources, trif.
oh, I must admit, I was an instant spud holdout, and then the DH bought some and they were really good! Have used them in a few emergencies
has it an other meaning, peri?
yes, peri, why did I spell it wrong? that's normal, for me
yes, you spelled it incorrectly but I knew what you meant
with my luck it probably means "mother's vagina" or something....
What is Aldi? herin, they are opening one in my town
no other meaning that I am aware of
no, lady. Costco is a warehouse store offering large sizes.
Aldi is a deep-discount chain that is bare-bones, limited selection, and very cheap. They are affiliated with Trader Joes here in teh States.
Costco is like BJ's
herin - if you should need a 5-gallon container of mayo, Costco is your place
don't like Aldi
and Sam's Club
Oh cool! Someplace in Middletown that's interesting
LOVE BJ'S TOO!!!
Aldi's near me has mostly canned goods and some produce
and Big Lots
i love trader joe's
Aldi is not like Trader Joes, though you'll find some TJs proucts there
Aldi's in the USA is a lower end chain store
did not realized that Aldis was associated with Trader Joe's. Love Trader Joe's
Trader Joe's is wonderful
Don't have a Sam's on Lawn Guyland except far out east
Esprit! THERE you are! Darling, how are you? I have been carrying you in my heart all day....
It used to be that only Jewish people used Yiddish words. Now everyone knows them and it's confusing
Aldi is not associates with Trader Joe
hey all, just wanted to say that TJ's has zero affiliation with Aldi, they just happen to be owned by two German brothers, the Albrechts
costoc and bjs are better than sams, i think
hey hk, nice to see you
Hi Tri - I did not do it yesterday. My car wouldn't start and I interpreted it as a reprieve
Every New Yawker speaks Yiddish as a second language....
hi helenkeller
clue please la5 the first one ;o)
BIChon www.aldi.com
one brother owns TJ's, the other owns Aldi - I'm guessing they are not much hurting for money :)
<<shrirking like a complete babble idiot>> how do i add the flag?
heya peri!
non jews don't have the right accent, for the most part
heya doren!
hi, HK
Or spelling
Lots of Yiddish you need to sound like you're choking on phlegm....
IF you get a warehouse still Aldi its fairly OK but if its small its a little difficult. I shop there for most stuff as its cheaper than Coles or Woolies.
1st la5 double vovel, like a man's name
55 left here and tired of this grid
hey dc!

i watched a special on Luciano Pavarotti the other day and they interviewed Renata Scotto
Wish I had seen it Dorens
does anyone know if nrkii had her surgery yet?
i have always been so sad to be tone-deaf
Yes she did Peri
: )))
thanks dc
i'm not a fan of aldi, but my sister likes it
when?
I sent her a message on Facebook asking when and she did not respond to me
peri, I think she mentioned that she is recovering, so that means that she is through it.
th 5/6 combo?
the ANs are a PIA today
it was on pbs bichon.. maybe it will be repeated this week??
can't stand to shop at Aldi, feels like I am in a third world country

th5 - definite article, follow with first letters of LA's state.
thanks for the update, folks
say hk. you live in illinois, right? what do you think about your governor?
i am working at TJ's now, that's partly why I haven't been chatting much, very physical, but very fun
th6 - continues along the same theme.
HK I understand what you are saying but what do you mean?
I bet his day was ruined this morning
PBS will be running a special on Roy Orbison soon - probably for a fund campaign.\
doren - i was thinking this is like our 5th governor now to get arrested/jailed, seriously something wrong with the politics here :(
i've always wondered abou tthem... the folks who work there seem like they're at a party, at least at my local tj's they do...how do they manage to keep y'all so happy?
Goodmorning everyone. Nice to see you Hellen K!
they seem likea good place to work, HK
hi, lynxxx
Hi lynxxx - long time!!
that is what they say about new jersey politics
Hi Lynxx

55 left! bbl!
hi lynxxxx
hasta, harry
ty Haz for the th
DC can i speak to you on yahoo please?
herin - aldis is so bare bones, no selection, doesn't seem to be much value place on quality products, that's what i meant by third world
You're welcome, bichon.
OH OK. Ours is full of stuff. Tis great
yep - at the tj's training, they stress the happy, they want people to feel like this is their old-time corner grocery store - i think they weed out the sad-saps
also, they give great benefits for part-time work, bc/bs ppo, dental, vision, retirement plan + 10% discount on shopping
I have to give them credit for their training then, because my expriences at TJ's are always nice
ty herin for the link to
wow those are great benefits for pt
Haz it's good to see you :-)
Aldis
it certainly works.. it does make us want to come back often, aside from the nice food
heya lynxxxxy!
evening again
Hello Katie!
hi Katie
hello there Haz...have you been away ?
hi katie
peri - & that's why I'm working there! :)
BIchon. I love simplesavings. Its free and gives out good advice
she's been Bewildered
I missed you :-) how has your weather been?
and 'Hello' to everyone else !
anyone like to part with some clues for the 8s?
Helen that does sound like a nice place to work.
Has she ?....was it good ?
I like Cheapskate.com
it is free too
Hello Karys. Choose which you think most likely. (a) helping George Clooney learn his lines (B) giving a masterclass in free sewing (c) undergoing therapy for 'non reality' issues.
and now i must run to shower & be off to TJ's - have a great day everyone! So nice to see you all again!
be well, HK, nice to see you
enjoy helen
I live in bewildered and it's not all is cracked up to be
Bye Helen
bye Helen
errm... none of those seems to fit my perception of the Haz I know and love !
Esprit - ch8 is a fuel or an artistic medium and ca8/45 are yellow birds or Spanish islands.
and those two c/8 's I have !!!
No, the thought of me needing therapy for not being able to recognise reality is especially ridiculous, isn't it?
ty haz
well, in this concept.....perhaps not !!!
ca8/50 - first three letters of LA's state, American tin, two vowels at the beginning of a compass direction.
tr 6/18?
Lol Haz pity the poor therapist
The second ca8/50 is the same, save for the last vowel which is changed.
ty again haz
firewords
You're welcome, Esprit.
yay for dc
Congratulations dc!
congrats dc!
yay dc
got them easily with the definitions
Congrats DC!
I know, Katie. I knew things were going badly when she asked to lie down.
ty..for that one Haz
You're welcome, Karys.
congrats dc
tr 6?
ty, tough one today
I've been to therapy, hated the woman and was like a toddler throwing tantrums before I had to go but she was actually an angel and really helped :-)
and the other one now (silly word )
TY Haz - no wonder I coiuldn't monkey those ca8
It would be a very inventive monkey to come up with them, lynxxx, you're right.
two columns gray and 44 left, bbs
snarl
play nicely now Karys
doesn't anyone have the tr6?
oh dear....sorry...knew I had done it...too late !!!
tr6 - tr, then an anagram of a mathematics word, sounds like sign.
Hi anyone i missed
Or, three letters for three, then three initials for compass directions (exclude west)
I did it earlier Karys, there is just no stopping it once you have hit that return
going to watch 'Survivors' now....(til I get bored, see you in about 15 mins !)
See you later, Karys.
drat, gotta poof - secondo needs help with the fish tank....
thanks for the tr clue Haz
You're welcome, Katie.
i must away and dress and what
lovely to see everyone
Finally got it, ty Haz
{sneaks away}
Glad you got there, bichon.
bye DC
See you later, dc.
bye dc
Hi Katie
Hi herin
How are you?
what a stupid an7 word!!!
I'm OK, going for a temporary promotion at work so a bit stressed about it, application done so all I can do how is pray!
When are the folks home Katie?? Is it next Monday??
Yep next monday norma, I have heard from them and they are having a good time but it sounds like the weather has been a bit cloudy
I bet it is a bit warmer than here though lol
Best wishes with that Katie. (I just booted my self)
Good Luck at work ... let me know how you get on
I am waiting for the cat to fall off her pillow
Thanks herin & norma, interviews next Monday so will let you know, at least I only have three days left at work after that before I go away and I'm only in the office for one day if I don't get it and have to put on a brave face :-)
Lol herin, Casty has just fell off the ironing pile, serves her right I didn't do it so she could sleep on it!!
(I did it because Mari is in Cuba)
I'll say goodnight, I've letters to write to accompany Christmas cards. See you tomorrow - bye!
night Haz, see you tomorrow
Bye!
Aargh! Missed Haz! Goodnight!
And hello, everyone else.
bye Haz
hi Vi!
Hi Vi
Good luck on promotion, Katie.
thanks vic, I'm just hoping if I don't get it I can be adult about it :-)
Well, if you can't be adult about it, at least you can be a well-mannered child.
We get told on Monday and I don't have to go back into the office until Thursday so hopefully I will have got my acting skill in place by then
After that I can go to the Maldives to recover!!
I'm sure you can handle anything, Katie! And with any luck no acting will be necessary - unless to hide the excess glee.
blooming heck. evil net keeps dying
Hello, again, Ata!
Did I see that you have a not-secret-enough admirer?
hi Ata
Hi Ata :-)
hi again Vi dear!
HI vic
I had to go vic, who was it?
Hello, herinfernal.
yes ..... I'm still giggling about that
As long as there is distance between you, worth getting a kick out of!
I just saw them asking you to figure out the name
Evening all - hows it going - grid is interesting tonight
I wasn't there, either, Katie, just saw the log.
KAtie my cat is a garfield
it's good for smugness :P
Ok well it's not what I saw, what time was it?
Hi Kazz. Im ignoring the grid in the hope it does it itself
why garfield herin?
Ata, for goodness sake, don't tease poor Katie! Spill the beans again!
oh! LOL
Because shes a fatty
someone I used to know about 15 years ago has dumped his girlfriend after talking to me on facebook because he never got over me *sigh*
Crumble can join her herin
Have a look at my flicr
what a femme fatale!
OMG i'm feeling slightly sick!!! Smugness in overdrive!!! Did he tell you when his midlife crisis started ;-)
I got mixed up I though vi was the one with a secret admirer when someone you knew was asking you to work out their name earlier
lol no. he just loooooooves me LOL
Ata stop breaking mens hearts
Heh. All my myriad secret admirers must stil be just that -- secret.
herin - i wish the grid would do itself as well - 45 left and running out of steam
before you know it he will be sending you electronic love he**** :-)
i had a secret admirer once but i think my mum scared him off
One of my facebook friends has something going with someone in Holland and he keeps sending really sickly stuff to her, I wonder if he knows we can all see them
Lol Kazz
Kazz I dont think this will make you feel better I ahve found 1 word in 2 hours
i just got another one
nooooo! how funny!
word that is not secret admirer
I have never had a secret admirer, knowing my luck I would skip that and go straight to stalker
there is a thin line between the two
Katie, you silly, maybe you have... but it was a secret! =P
My ex dumped me and went to stalker until i took him to court.
Ata, what did you say when he told you?
I've had the stalker thing, hopefully this one will just swoon from afar!
.....and electronically Ata, at least you can block him on facebook if he annoys you
Why'd he dump you if he couldn't stay away?
exactly, katie :)
they never know what they have got until they throw it away!
anyone got the first la 5 please
sorry Kazz only la I am missing!
hey everybody
HI Jac
Hi jacq
la5 la + the little mermaid's name is ***el
la uses double vowel and sounds like one of the 3 Stooges
Vic because he is an idiot and thought he could get away with it but i has the smarts
hello again...
34, going to the list cos I've had a glass of wine and I can't think anymore!
*plies atalante with hogshead of wine*
hi Stid! how did Friday go?
*falls over*
ty fir that lynxxx
it went really well lynxxx! thanks for asking! Tom set up the technology for me, and the presentation was well received.
excellent!
Hi Stid
well, I think I don't need wine to need the list. 62 when I left a couple hours ago and still at 62...
:-D yes. and in a couple hours I go back to the college to have my evaluation conference. The college doesn't give letter grades, the teachers actually evaluate the students (rather like a job performance eval).
I didn't even see the sc until I got the list out
thanks for the la clues
I think it will go okay, but you know... always a few butterflies!
you'll be brillant!
Go, stidmama, go! BReak a leg, and all that!
Best wishes Stid YOU ROCK
I'm sure you will be fine stid :-)
thanks lady! and vi! and ata! and lynxxx! :-D
god luck mama
good luck too
You will sail through Stid I am sure, you impress us all here - but good luck anyway!
sorry had a couple of vodka's
you know, you babble buds helped me SO MUCH this quarter... you will never know. *considers how much a lifetime supply of choclit for each babbler would cost*
lol join the inebriated club jacq
*finishes calculation, faints and goes to get coffee*
at least you can spell inebriateed
thanks also jac! :-D
lol
It would take a LOT of chocolate to be a lifetime supply for this crew, stidmama.
yeah, that was quite good, wasn't it!
I'm not sure there's that much chocolate in the universe.
they don't produce enough we would need installments
I can spell gin!!!! and tonic, with ice and lemon :-)
LOL vi!
and your company is all we require
oh gee, katie! *blush* *shuffle feet* shucks...
Can't believe I just turned down chocolate *shaking head sadly*
I can spell floccinaucinihilipilification. Which always impresses the people who have been spelling too much gin.
I can copy adn paste it!
spelling too much gin LOL
If you are attempting to imply anything, Ms Atalante, I'll have you know I spelled that fair and square.
LOL vi! does it actually mean something, though? I know floccination... or is it flocculation? perhaps flagellation... *sigh*
Katie!!!! now we all have t say that and i'm too poor to buy my own chocolate
MMM gin and elderflower and soda
flagelating a dead equine
need the first AN 7 please?
mmhmmm I believe you
vic you have got to be careful about those ifications they can really hurt
It means treating something as of no importance. As in, "I resent your floccinaucinihilipilification of my spelling ability."
Of course "belittling" works just about as well, but where's the fun in that?
stick most of the word fro a group of one more than two on to the an4 before it
a stupid stupid word stid, more of the 4 above, honestly!!
an7 put a prefix for 3 on the end of an4.4
lol Vic
thanks jacq
why use a simple word when a more complicated one will do
it was longwinded and flowery but whatthe hey
aha! got it!
Exactamundo, Ata.
one more A word and 46 others...
Ata , do you write instruction manuals by any chance?
how about the first la5. i am lost. thanks
I could do!
you could have a role in government with long words like that Vi we like people not to understand us ;-)
lol
lol Katie
it was clued a wee while ago Joey
when I grow up, I will be able to USE big words... (maybe)
*going into Sir Mix-a-lot mode* I like big words and I cannot lie...
i am sorry, i just got one
on
You other Babblers can't deny...
awww sily claws is here
oh dear, FIRST AR 6 please?
hello joey!
my favourite new one is worklessness, it's not been around that long and always makes me laugh
la5 l & double vowel & engagement **ng
hi
obviously we don't use unemployed anymore
I could do with some worklessness....
i suffer from worklessness
but first I need the education so I can be workless in a field I enjoy...
Worklessness seems to me that it would in reality be quite different from unemployment.
is the second CA 8 similar to the first?
nods, worklessness is more hopeless
yes mama, change last vowel
My first ar6 is past tense of ar5, but I make no guarantees.
change the last vowel Stid
seriously we had a 'leaders for change' event on 'worklessness' - comments flew about the attendees on that one
oh piffle. italian/latin plural. poo.
thanks lynxxx and jac
Well, when you're unemployed you may still have no shortage of work -- family, looking for job, dealing with house repairs, etc...
unemployment is the inability to find any or suitable employment, worklessness is what we're approaching where employers are tightening belts and not employing, no jobs
worklessness is the description given to those who have had generations without a job as they have never been employed to be unemployed. in some communities there is no expectation that you will ever work
firebirdlessness!
Yah Ata
lol
oh! there was a BBC article a day or two ago on that...
congrats ata
I'm unemployed, because no one pays me to do a job, but I'm far from workless.
LOL atalante... you and me BOTH!
how about the third CA 8? I have the 6 that precedes
Congrats Ata!
Yellow birds Stid
there's a series going on, stid. on my LJ is a link to an interesting one - jobless because of mental illness
the third is a group of islands popular with those holidaying in spain
Ahh, I get it Katie. Well, that makes more sense. I thought it was being used merely as a pointless synonym.
my grandfather always says that he is not UNemployed. He is always employed (doing something) -- just doesn't get paid for it...
I think it was at first and then they found something to attach it to :-)
yello birds... singing birds?
YES! my budgie thinks he's one of those...
used in mines
ones who went down the mines to check for gas
actually my son's budgie... but he's BLEU, not yellow *grin*
Yeah, I always think it's funny when people ask me if I work. I always reply, "Yes, but no one pays me for it."
thanks grant!
Admittedly I try to work as little as possible...
nor why do cats have to curl their feet over their face and do very cute
glad to help
ahhh. *imaginging cute cats*
My worklessness has reduced since they banned babble at work!
I think house wives and mums are the most underpaid workers
... Except that work that can be mistaken for play...
they get paid in love herin
lol Katie
*stickyurl*
CH 6 please?
... And I do get generous room and board! =D
love?? it's not enough!!!
with some chocolate thrown in?
tr6,plz
Yep! Occasional chocolate when I'm good! ;)
I wouldn't mind at least getting credit toward retirement katie... you know by the time I finish my master's and get back to work it will have been 18 years since my "work" counted for retirement?
the tr 6/18 I have is latin "three" + first three letters of nutrition drink ***ure
I know, they keep talking about recognising it but truth be told I don't think they can afford it
mama, doesn't being a stay at home mum give you credits?
tr6/18 - prefix for 3 + Several Big parliamentary clocks minus B
it does here, if you recieve benefits for children, like tax credits, you are awarded national insurance credits at the highest rate, to protect your pension
no jacq, it doesn't. I used to have sufficient credits with social security to get benefits if I got injured or reached retirement age, I now need to work for ten years to regain those
are you jacq, I didn't know!
Intriguing, jacq!
I don't live in Canada though, just anticipating my visit with Jillibus later this month
thank yuo i was needing that
that was a great clue Vic....but I don't understand it.
the United States is not truly family friendly, despite the rhetoric from the right-wingers
but staying at home trying to earn a living as an artist gives you no NI credit at all!
yes katie, and if you are a carer, getting carers allownace you get the same benefit
true Ata, but after you snuff it your work will be priceless
*noting once again that "rhetoric" and b***s*** have the same number of letters*
yeah, great for when I starve to death as a pensioner!
Right I'm off to bed, i'm getting up at 6am to leave the house by 7am and get to work at 8am, it means I can leave earlier but no more midnight stints on babble for me :-) See you all tomorrow :-)
night katie dear!
sweet dreams katie! (((hugs))) nice to talk with you for a change!
CH 6 pretty please?
I have to share: http://www.bloomsberry.com/

it's big and has part of the name for an icecream in it
everyone knows the parlimentary clock!
*** and jerry's
The famous clock on Britains Parliament is called Big B---
bong!
ch6 continue the burn "** you like it"
Merci...Vic, I know my French.
But try replacing the cloc bit with several Mr Franklins, less the initial B
oh! I didn't know it was on the parliament building! *hangs head in shame* I thought maybe it was on city hall...
ty lynxxx
thanks lynxxxx *thinking*

thanks, Peri
hello again - how pathetic am I!!! I a m now at the public library, playing on my laptop, so I can hide from the dreaded husband, who is picking up the kids for dinner. I could NEVER have imagine my life getting this.....sad
yw, phan
why are you hiding, Trif?
30
don 't want to see him, don't want to have to talk to him
TRifs be civil to him even if he is a twant
I understand now, Trif
I know, herin, but I just can't manage it right now, and don't want a row in front of the kids. So, having nothing good to say, I am saying nothing at all
Fair enough
I think I might go see "australia" later - is it supposed to be a tear jerker, or just a good old fashioned romanitc epic? could handle the latter....
NO idea sorry
well I can prove one thing definitively already - sitting in a library full of books does NOTHING to improve my ability at this game....sigh
I'm thinking maybe I just need to reinstall Expert just to get it up and running properly again.....
I never have caught how to jerk a tear
what is expert?
Trifs im laying down and i still don'[t see it
hello, i have a culinary chemistry question if anyone has expertise in that area....
ohhhh, babble, rent "terms of endearment" or "dark victory" and you will learn, my padawan
Yes Harp I may be able to help
don't laugh, infernal, ok?
mm, I have not been able to use Babble expert in many months, even when lickety sent me the latest version a while ago
I just use licketys 2 letter list, tedious but I do get to finish
Not going to
Triffs its a program that Lickety designed its a combination of this and his list (which is at the bottom)
ok, here goes.... would it be possible to make a gelitan (jello) dish using beer in place of some liquid? or would the alcohol in the beer keep it from setting?
I don't think that would work, harp, I do think the alcohol would affect the setting
why would you want to use beer anyway?
okay, I know I have to go in the PB for this, but I can't resist: one of the w4s today reminds me of that BRILLIANT contest the Washington Post runs every year, where they invite people to take a w4, change one letter, and give a new definition. A couple of years ago the winning entry was my all-time favorite: reintarnation = when you die and come back as a hillbilly
hello all
You need to get a hobby my dear!! lol
be nice, knitter, its been a sh4 week
who needs a hobby, me or trifoso?
she means me
sorry but you well know that being nice is not in my make up
harp, I have heard of jello shots, not sure what alcohol they use but thinks it's clear
we have a gallon of beer left over from a party and I'm sick of drinking it, so i'm looking for ideas
beer batter chicken! fabulous stuff
beer batter some fish or o-rings
lol
think they use vodka in the jello shots but not sure
I just use random pecking, although I have found more success when I put the first letter in the first slot
or use the beer on your hair
cook with it. We make pot roast with Beer all the time
harp its really good in chili lol
beer bread
beer is great to roast a brisket in
aknitter I am hopeless tries knitting again last night made a mistake now have to wait till I see my sister again don't know if I am cut out for this
I was thinking of lime-sauerkraut jello to go with pork chops...
seran
i like peri's idea....and knitter's brisket
I use a beer in all the pork roasts I make
roasted a brisket in beer last night, pork chops in beer tomorrow night, making bread with beer today.... you get the idea
oops.
speed you can do it ..... just keep trying you can solv e a 300 word grid you can do anything
rant
sounds like you might need to have another party. or give it to the local food pantry - bet they don't get beer often
sounds like harp will soon need an AA membership
a food pantry donation? i like that idea
well it's getting staler by the minute
I would have had a party to get rid of it...
give the beer to the homless?
but I'm sure that's what it's leftover from..
give it to the local rummies - at least you know they will make good use of it....i know, i know.....I am going to hell. I will save seats
HARp i don't know.
oooh! looks like I am sitting next to peri when I get there :0 :) :)
hey, Trif, great minds
save a seat for me please
lol
have a bro-in-law in tenn. that will drink anything
I'll try it, just for the hell of it! why not
i already have a seat on concorde lol...hi all
you already have a seat on the family couch. We are all going to need it
but i know that if you get a can of bear and open it and stick it up a roast chooks butt on one of those up right rotisseries works really well.
sounds rather uncomfortable
oh, knitter - fee rae saw the ent yesterday - no von willenbrands, yay!
well infernal, a bear up anyone's butt sounds unpleasant!
a can of BEAR???
going to jump in this to get done
well that is a relief
mind you, it's been a while.....
LOL people
Or is the head end? I never know. BEAR oh dear BEER
en 7 pls
lol herin, i need a tissue i am laughing so hard
bbs
oh god, and it's herin too, which means it's likely koala bear - and they are so cuddly looking!
ah pick an end
boy, did I come in at an interesting time? beer cans in butts????
poor bear :(
or bears in butts your choice
congrats trif. I have a friend who has hemophelia and it is managable with proper training and information
oh it's all high-level intellect in here, annie
get beer open stick in roast chooks butt and roast
quickly writing soen recipe
well it would be really hard to get an entire keg into a roast...
Trif, see what fun you can have sitting in the library....butts, bears, beer, etc
thanks cj - we are quite relieved
all B's too
and Koalas are not bears nor are they cuddly the have a habit of wizzing on you if you hold them (even in captivity)
thanks annie. I still feel mighty pathetic, but you guys helped me laugh for the first time all day, and that is really something
i can see the headlines of the local paper -- women arrested on library computer .....
HI anny

Hey all! May I please have a clue for ea6-19 and ea7-28 the 2nd? Thanks

ea6 one who brings in the paycheck
You could have done something... But you didnt try.... You didnt do nothing You let her walk by. insert whistle here

thnx, Une
Must go and stir the beer in the chili , bb ; )
I just realized that I sometimes backspace when I mean to enter
LOL
Speed did you get my message?
about the chook (yes I did) thanks
okay - according to the reseach librarian, you CAN use alcohol of any kind with jello, but use 20% less of it than you would if it was water, and it will take longer to set, and not set as firmly as with just water. It has something to do with the interaction of alcohol and the sugar in the jello. So. Now we know.
maybe thats why I sometimes feel all alone here!
Wow. HI MAMAM
Tri that will also make the papers in town local women just cooking with beer
Hey Herin
not me!
Trif, HA and you thought you were hiding out. You just solved a mystery for us and esp. me.
I was telling about my use of beer in the chili, but it s not in chog

i like to be of service

oh, a real thrilling book right now - "stop walking on eggshells: how to live your life when someone you care about has borderline personality disorder."
Hmm sounds interesting
But I highly, highly reccommend "the power of one" by Bryce Courtenay. I am telling EVERYONE I know to run out and read it.
nattering nabobs of negativity
my friend's daughter has borderline personality
is she managing it well annie? how old is she?
trif, she is 46 and she is medicated..
Borderline personalit could be a matter of perception. LOL

i'll slow down near the end. i promise. right now i'm just going down the list. if i get hung up on a word for more than a few seconds, i'm moving on. so at the end, i'll be left with all my "hard" ones
whatever word it is that ends in ***angle, meaning 3, i cant get. it is an and then that angle word? grid wont take that. so tried other letters and cant get anything. so plesae clue it for me. how many letters total?

ch8 is usually made of wood which is brought to a high heat in an enclosed space

Bye dawg
Y'all are AWESOME! Just one more, ra4-5 the 1st please. I know this sounds silly, but I almost hate to get to the last one because I enjoy the Chatterbox.
jmc, we do try to take people's preferences for what they're called into account. we have another newbie who told me what she preferred, but refuses to speak up and tell anybody else :P
BRB...I'm going to play with Napster a bit...just subscribed last night!
I accidentally hit on her preference, and was thanked (I think it's she)
well there you go. some people have a hard time jumping into this bubbly crowd

we had a cloudburst here about an hour ago, complete with lightning that lit up everything
was the lighting fun to watch
fortunately, I had *just* finished the grid and was uploading. I left it on long enough to finish that, and then turned the PC off
no, jmc. it was scary. the thunder was extremely loud, and the lightning didn't just light up the sky; it lit up the ground
ta6 clue? please
rain was coming down like the proverbial pitchforks
that does sound scary. Mother always told the story where she was in the cradle and my aunt picked her up during a thunderstorm and the next second a bolt of lighting came down the chimney and fried the cradle.
ta6: sounds like a kid pitching a fit (vowel ending)
oh, my! did it scare you to hear it when you were little?
ty Tyger
yw, DR
no but my mother and grandmother were always nervous I thought it was beautiful
I just remembered other stuff I need to do in the next hour. BBL
cya tyger...
Later, tyger...

hey babblers - I am back, and I am home, and BOY O BOY let me tell you - the film "Australia" is GREAT.
Hi, Trif!
Hi Trif
hi trif
hey there. I am serious. I LOVED that film. Kidman and Jackman were very, very good, but the little boy who played the mixed race child STOLE the movie....
turns out my little one snuck in here, and is SNORING away as I am babbling> how cute is that?
adorable
Very cute, Trif...I used to have a loud-snoring cat...

don't worry Trif...you"ll do it again! :)
yes, in about five seconds
I did that today as well...
is it fairly common amongst babblers, do you think?
I think it is more common than you think
Oh, yes, Trif...
it just feels so much better when monkeying works, though, doesn't it?
well since you can click a link from lickety . . . I am guessing yes
Yes, monkeying is more satisfying, but using word lists beats tearing one's hair out!
I'm looking for the ch8, before the map word ch5..
pav = fire up the barbeque....
bbq fuel Pav
ch8= stuff burned in the bbq
duh! nm...see trif, you've rubbed off on me...!

thanks
i don't know if I can giggle any more trif!
that conversation took a bizarre turn!
hang on, she is coming back....
and btw, the movie ROCKED
Hello...is there a question about jello?
hey there car - jane has a huge amount of leftover beer from a party, and wants to know if you can make jello shots with beer
Bill Cosby here?
or just beer jello, using beer instead of water
ewwwwwwwwwwww
Good grief! I wouldn't! I think the foam/bubbles in the beer will breakdown the consistency of the Jello and it will probably never "set".
hi car, I used a lot of it today in bread, used beer instead of liquid....
back
I can't stand the pressure, I will try it tomorrow and let you know!
tell her to get rid of snails in the garden with it..
Or invite a Fraternity over for dinner
i told her to give to the homeless rummies on the corner. at least they will appreciate it
Not to mention, I really don't think it would taste very good. What flavor Jello are we talking about? I can maybe see lime with beer...maybe a cherry with a wheat beer...
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Ummm...Jane where are you? I can be a homeless rummy!
lemon or lime, with saurkraut!
funny, she was thinking lime! way to go!
saurkraut and sausage! Yum!!!
Ok, so have you tried the beer in the jello process yet?
I am watching one of our alltime favorite movies...PeeWee's Big Adventure!...and trying to play this game at the same time!
no, that was my question to the chog this afternoon, it caused a worldwide fit of giggles due to a typo
something about bear in the butts of roasts...
I hate when that happens!!! :-)
Big Shoe Dance time!
it was hysterical actually, they should let us entertain at world peace talks....

incredible story from the Bitterroot Mountains. A couple was hiking on Saturday. They slipped on the ice and fell around 800 feet. One called for help on a cell phone but byt the time help arrived they had both perished.

okay - clearly satan wrote this grid, why isn't his name allowed?
Oh that is sad Harp
Oh, how sad, harp!
Today some skiers went up in icy conditions and located their golden retriever, still waiting on the spot where they had fallen.
800 feet? I am surprised they lived to make a call. and I am so glad someone found the dog!
oh poor sweet puppy
yes, it's sad but also amazing
lots of people really risked their lives to help these folks.

there are parts that are quiet enough to require volume - but then they get into the loud parts
