we are looking at 8-12 year olds, siblings. there is a very high demand for that age group as people only want to take in little ones
i live in fear of a fire here- everytime i see one, i drive around to find just where it is-we have had some deliberately lit recently but we have been safe

Yes. All towns no matter how small would have a CFA centre - ven if it is only a large shed and a truck. Volunteers are people in the area who go through weekly training, most guys in the country are members. women too

I think school starts too young in England. I believe children need the opportunity to learn to talk and listen before being made to read and write.
I think people are certainly concerned that boys especially aren't ready for formal education so young.
Also I don't think small boys are designed to sit quietly for 6 hours a day - running, jumping and climbing trees is as much a part of education as book learning
Over here, they're starting a revised curriculum whereby it's all mostly play for the first year. Of course, they'll have to wait years to decide if it's worked!
I would consider alternaive schools like Steiner of the Green School but there's nothing like that where we live
