Oh, well I don't use any butter - a good quality margarine only, as I'm vegan for reasons of health and compassion. So I don't use any animal fats - which are all saturated, and are what cause clogging in the arteries that lead to heart attacks and strokes. It's the saturated fats that cause that - and they're only found in anything from animals - meat, dairy and eggs. Our bodies aren't meant to have any of that.

Well Shawnee, it's not difficult if you truly love animals. That being said, I regret that I didn't have my epiphany in that regard, until I joined PETA as a supporting member a couple years back, to participate in a campaign of theirs, protesting the slaughter of bears for the use of the Queen's guard's ceremonial bearskin caps. It was through reading all the literature they sent me, that I became really aware of the atrocities I was financially contributing to, by eating and drinking anything from animals - when it's not only completely unnecessary but also very harmful to our health, to do! :(

I am a huge fan of tofu.
Once I did realise, not doing it anymore wasn't difficult at all - there are so many wonderful vegan foods available now, that I truly don't miss any dairy, eggs or meat and don't feel I'm lacking for anything.
I LOVE tofu - oh yes, especially herb tofu! I make a mean tofu scramble, for breakfast . . .

I use it in stir fries a lot, also - I cube the tofu up and place it in a small, deep bowl, then marinate it in a light soy sauce, before cooking. Tastes devine! ;)

That is sad, EvaNadine - I can't understand who wouldn't have compassion for animals, if they realised the terror - the pain and fear the experience, in the meat industry. They suffer terribly and are brutally slaughtered, just so people can eat them when it's not appropriate or healthy for us to do so. :( No, I couldn't do it anymore, never again.

It's a fake meat made out of wheat gluten. It's basically a dough that you spice up however you want. The texture is great and pretty similar to some meats.

Meat is never good for you, Andrew - it's very inappropriate for our bodies. If we were meant to have it, the saturated fats in all animal products wouldn't clog our arteries, leading to heart attacks and strokes. Any natural carnivore or omnivore - such as a dog, cat, chimpanzee, could eat a pound of butter a day, and never have that problem . . . their bodies are made to handle it, ours are not.

He is also neurotic. After four years, I can now "touch" his feet, but still can't trim the nails. We have to sedate him once a year to have a check-up and thorough grooming.

yes, he runs very hard. And of course, we are not in the city, so there are always rocks and sticks and boards and... you know. "Stuff" to step on.
He was almost two when we rescued him.
I know someoen with a dog like that - he won't let her touch his paws or clip his claws, either. That dog was a rescue from a shelter and probably already at least a year old, shen she got him - so no telling what he'd been through, prior to that.

He is a good boy though, and friendly -- but definitely MY dog. Won't even ask to play if I am away from home, I hear.
My dog is a rescue as well - adopted from Battersea Animals' Home in south London, nine years ago.
I adopted my cat from there as well - and my last dog.
He kept my tom's best friend crawling around on the floor one visit... (he's a tall man) until he learned to throw the toys and was allowed to "join the family" (rofl at the memory)

It's been a LOOOONNNNNGGGG week, trust me. The first doctor, relieving mine who was on vacation, gave me some drops that normally work for people but didn't for me-- and then I developed the secondary infection with raging tinsillitis and so on, and eyes like you wouldn't BELIEVE! The rest went away with an antibuiotic but I was seriously considering pulling my eyes out right up through this morning. Now it's suddenly gouing well.

Thanks! I realize I need to change my letter of motivation a bit. One thing I keep being asked is why I am applying for these jobs that don't fit the degree profile exactly. I keep explaining that the degree is so very broad that I chose it specifically so that I would be trained in many things and could apply for many things. I should just put that in the darned letter.

Yes, I think so - I would never buy a purebred puppy from a breeder anyway, because I simply can't condone anlyone breeding dogs and will not support that practise, when there are so many perfectly wonderful dogs being put down all the time in shelters, for a lack of homes! :(

I only adopt mongrels myself, for a reason - I know the purebred puppies and dogs are more adoptable - I want to give a home to a dog that is in desperate need, and not as likely to be adopted.
oh absolutely, but if I needed a working dog to work in a pheasant shoot for example, only certain dogs could do well. though some mongrels go just as well! But I think you should have a good reason for wanting a purebred. Not just wanting a dog

Those people shouldn't be hunting in the first place - it's totally unnecessary to go kiling anything. We're not even meant to eat meat or eat and drink anything from animals - if you read the scientific information about it, which is now readily available. I did myself, yes - up until a couple of years ago, when I joined PETA as a supporting member to participate in the anti-fur protest outside the royal palaces, and finaly had my epiphany. I wish I'd learnt and realised the truth about it all a long time ago - but better late than never.

i attended an awards dinner for hs students who "have overcome significant challenges" and "contributed to their community" .....
these are not your academic superstars, but students who have overcome disabilities, diseases, major personal and family tragedies, etc......
that's the kind of place one might expect to have inspiring experiences
i was there for two of our hs students who came to the U.S. a few years ago speaking no English and are now tutoring peers at the HS

one not only had to learn english, but also overcome stuttering - she now counsels students who have speech difficulties

lol....it's not about pain....i have neither the time nor the inclination to finish every puzzle anymore, so i usually just see how much i can find....if nothing else, it helps me kick ass in my family boggle tournaments

I have my little routine -- first I try for NBT and more, mostly little words, picking up all possible clues from the chat, then I go to the list when I can't see what's in front of my nose and fill in what suddenly appears. Then I look for more clues in the chat. Last resort is Morewords, and I'm usually gratified to see that I've never heard of what i find there.

yes PAV -- the problem with my planned career is that I am all too aware the workload will increase once I am done with school... teaching is a time-consuming profession.

one thing about the profession i always tell diana- you can make a difference!!
my mother was an "educator" - worked in banking while we wee ones were growing up, then went back to college to get degree at 52, taught full time 18 years and then retired...mostly private schools and she was at one point charged with the lesson plans for all grade levels (elementary) - a step just below head master. Now she just travels when and where...

I am rather looking forward to traveling when I retire, too -- in about 30 years! LOL
