I remember in my undergrad being assigned to a group by the prof and they scheduled all our meeting off campus where I couldn't get to them...the prof wouldn't budge and I received a failing grade..part of the grade was to"work well with others" since it was 3-1 I lost...but in a way, I'm glad I never knew them as friends...

ruru...did I ever tell about the snakes I encountered whilst house-sitting...my friends were in CO, and I happenend to need a place to live following my Master's..so here I am in the boonies..some 35 miles out of town...the only thing protecting me is the alarm system...my weekend chore was to water the lawn...they had a very lush garden...and GREEN grass...so I hopped over to the side of the house where the spigot was and after turning it on, heard the rattle...I jumped some ten fe4 in a second or two and the thing started to come after me...so I ran the LONG way around the house into the kitchen and called my friends!

the weird thing was they said there was a bull snake on the property so I had no rattlers to fe4...the next day Sunday..I took a pic of a red/ coral snake that was in the garden and it is not found in AZ normally...

my uncle was a game warden in Oklahoma and he was trying to crush a gigantic copperhead on the ro4 and he kicked it up on the car window and part of the snake cam in the window (cracked slightly) while I was paralyzed in the car.. I flew out the other window of the car and went right through it glass and all

We lived in Kansas and had copperheads AND rattlers in the area. Had a copperhead in the house, which the neighbor came over and killed. The former owners still owned the property out back, and the wife got bitten by one. Took her 6 months to recover.

didn't realize I had a snake story but then I remembered: many hundreds of moons ago in village India (then Mysore, now Kanartaka) I cycled to the clinic where I worked each day on narrow dirt paths thru paddy, wearing a sari. Suddenly felt a glitch in the front wheel and thought the sari hem was caught in the spokes. surprised to find it was a baby cobra. Pumped the left pedal as hard as I could with the right leg sticking out to avoid the reptile. Got to the clinic compound, jumpfell off. No one knew who to laugh hardest at - me or the poor dizzy little snake.

I think the rabies treatment is easier now but still awful. it's our "friendly" animals, the ones who have lost their fear of humans, we have to fear most. Snakes and spiders and such tend to not bother us unless we do them. Of course, sitting safe and warm in the urbs I can forget about being vulnerable ...

Long ago a firend of mine had a 3-yr-old brother who was bitten by a rabid dog at a summer resort in China. No treatment was avialbalbe in time and the poor little guy died a horrible death.

we were usually warned by the dog, he got bitten only once

Capital ONe just doubled and tripled all its good credit users for no reason (except that they could get away with it) and the other banks and credit card companies are waiting to see whether the govt will step in. So far not but a huge class action suit is in the works.

Sorry to butt into a conversation, but I've been out of high school almost five years. In that time, I've moved myself across an ocean, battled debt time and again, has spells of 22hr days or no work for weeks, didn't get my license until I was 21 (a month from 22)...I'm half tempted to write a book on the subject - some of my friends/family are getting to be 18-20 and are in the mindset that everything will land in their laps...

Its like this morning there was a round discussion on the Pirate situation and they said there had been no hostages killed (not true) and were are they getting these weapons. Err the French had 3 hostages killed when trying to end a pirate siege and the weapons have come from 18 years of civil war. Do these people just hide under a rock and talk crap on tv?

My good tax news was that I had saved a bundle for 1st quarterly payment + what I thought would be extra $ for 2008, and my CPA gave me good news: I have to pay far less than I expected so I have an "extra" $6000. I think it is time for new kitchen appliances as these are the originals from when I bought the house in 1989.
