Dave Bowman told HAL to broadcast the message "All other worlds are yours, except Europa"
And Europa is in the grid tonight, reminding me of that movie. No monkeys in that movie, rbud
2001 or 2010?
2010, it was a movie where they resurrected HAL
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086837/
didnt see that one..saw 2001 a space odyssey...sp?
In this movie, the Monoliths are trying to keep the US and Russia from blowing each other up, among other things

yes, found the at 7 in morewords, west - sorry, wasn't watching the chat for a bit
is that a double negative :)
they are soooo wanting to move to Vancouver....they already notified that they will not renew their lease and they want to be able to sock away lots of money during that time
that's okay may I have the stats?
yes dartie! double neg = pos!
so NC is out just?
lol
at 7/32
thanks rbud
yes due to politics within the company :(
hi rosebud!
hi, Just
well Van is a lovely place to visit
yes I'm sure it is but our canadian airlines sure know how to gouge us with prices from east to west coast :(
they all do
ours gouge too justy
got the at with morewords thanks rbud
not like ours I bet :( not only airlines but cell phone companies, gasoline...you name it
even tv cable or satelittes Sp?
gas i'll give you...
Beautiful icon jilli - am missing it for sure
can you drive to the states and fly across then drive back up?
we could but it's a hassle esp with border crossings now
sometimes screwy rules on rental cars
train not much better price wise and not enough time
we'd have to drive to either upsate ny or vermont....fly to seattle...then arrange for transport to van....is it really worth it for all that extra time? not sure it is
it's hard when kids move so far away
that at7 is in a real knot! (went to morewords too)
but she has family there?
ty flosey -- we'll be glad to get you back!
what would be ideal is to fly to Calgary (at least for the first trip out west) and either rent a car or take the train thru the Rockies...then fly home from BC directly to Montreal
she does and they are planning to stay with them too, when they end up there, til they can get on their feet
now you're talking just I have heard that is the most beautiful trip
sounds good, just -- can you make a side trip here?
banff jasper etc are great
I will certainly try jilli...
that would be great Mar, and it is indeed a lovely drive from Calgary
actually our best friends live outside of Van (in Coquitlan...sp?) and we've never ever gone there to visit
coquitlam
Coquitlam
snap, flosey
right the n, m was a typo blush

that's what babble feels like at times
he's too old for me dart
how old is he?
what were the stats again on that at pls?

ohh bugs student? wow
oopsie Mar
Is he really a kid? Talks about selling his truck and stuff
don't doubt that..i'll pass on the music tho
did I commit a PB sin?

The worst thing about planning these dream trips - fly to Calgary, train (or dirve) to Vancouver, fly back to Montreal - is that when you try to actually do them, you discover the airlines' other little ugly secret - one-way tickets cost more than twice as much as round-trip tickets, as a rule! My mother-in-law used to just buy two round-trip tickets - one for each pair of destinations, and throw away the unused half, and save money over buying one-way tickets.
I googled your word bab and I admit I'm guilty
one BT -- the U -- any help?
ok, off to bed, just waited to chat with hubby after he finished scoring

except for me who doesn't work..at least not anymore but wish I did for the income
tomorrow i (potentially) have to mow the lawn
lol well that's a fun thing if it's your own lawn and not someone elses
you couldn't pay me to mow someone else's
so if it's a nice day enjoy it!
that's the if
btw....my son did not get that job in NC...:( company politics :(
sorry to hear

hello lynxxx
hi Zooz
anytime...its an easy one today, so shouldnt take you too long!
good good.
hi everyone
Hello Andree.
hi Andree, nice pic
yes lynxxx, 3 babblers
I can see. My MRP is tall! Is that a Jag jacket you have on?
its a most unusual jacket, all x-stitched, i bought it from the hill tribes in thailand nearly 30 years ago
I like it! The image is small which is why I was confusing it with something Jag did years ago, same colors
its reversable , becomes a black jacket with x-stitched pockets, i must like it too, must be the oldest thing in my wardrobe
BBS getting some coffee - and turning Torchwood off. CofE was a fantastic series but there is only so many times i can watch it
i watched it saturday night, tonight seems to be a rerun or am I confused
Its the rerun. Did you watch all 5 hours of it on Saturday?
Hi folks, just have a couple of minutes. Can anyone help me with my last 2, the pi6/21 and the ey6/24?
NM, just the pi left now... can anyone clue that?
ey6.24, plural of the ey4.6
i did lynxxx, what a marathon
Thanks, Lynxxx, JUST found it!
Well, I guess I'll go do the shopping and then see if leaps outr at me later...
bye monkey
sorry monkey do not have that one yet.
No worries! *temp-poof*
ey7/40 help please
ey* & X marks the ****
thx lynxxx
many thanks lynxxx
ohh just got babble expert..looks rather cool
that pi6 is pi & mens neckwear
pi6.21 - feels sorry for.
It's great Zooz, now you just need a monster grid to utilise it fully
lol...true
hi Jac. Is that your pooch? a shepherd?
Hi Andree. It was my dog but he's been gone many years now. He was a Jack Russell x Sheltie.
He was a good looking dog - a good mix. Love the head
hi jac
Hi Lynxxx. Sorry for getting mixed up just!
Good morning/afternoon all.
hello Haz.
Hello Haz.
hi Haz. You looks gorgeous in that photo, and your daughter is the spitting image of you
Hello there!
hi haz
great pic haz
Thanks lynxxx - I always say that she's a much prettier version of me. It was a very happy day.
Hello Andree - nice to see the babble gathering in Sydney as well!
What's the weather doing, Jac? It keeps threatening rain here and then changing its mind.
Haz - Nice at the moment - sun's out. Hail, thunder and heavy showers predicted on and off, though.
It sounds like what has been forecast for us as well. Still, it's better than last year.
Marginally!
We picked the wrong week last week for our summer hol.:( Mostly rain with a cold wind coming off the sea when it wasn't raining.
Last year we hardly stopped wringing out our raincoats.
Happy Bastille Day, everyone! http://tinyurl.com/5mfqjq
Oh dear - where did you go on holiday?
North Devon.
hi Une
howdy, lynxxx ;-)
You'd have thought you'd be safe with the weather in Devon. Lots of cream teas to compensate?
Hi Une.
beautiful pic, haz!
hey, jacs :-)
Not a single cream tea, Haz. LOL
Salut, Une. Thank you!
hi une
terrific pic, andree!
Well, I'd better leave my last 29 words until later. I've got gooseberries and blackcurrants to pick and a he4/6 of post-holiday ironing to do.
yum, jacs!
How high is the he4/6? I still treasure the memory of the he4/6 that was heading ceilngward.
great isn't it, thats mrp in the middle
yes, terrific!
Bye Jac
LOL, Haz. Not too bad now I've sorted out what doesn't need ironing. There will be a pic., on my blog, of everything I had to wash. (When I get round to writing it.)
BBL. Happy Babbling.
must take the pups out -- BBL
See you later, Jac.
Bye all. Time for dinner
enjoy lynxxx
Enjoy your dinner, lynxxx.
It looks like you and me, zoozz. We can talk about them now they're gone.
LOL...as if we would do a thing like that. :-)
Oh come on. It's not as if there are people lurking or that this chat log is preserved forever.
We can speak freely.
i'm listening
hahaha..knew there was lurkers here
I forgot you were still here, Andree! How did you enjoy meeting up with grannyrose? Was she as you imagined?
what is this lickety chat for on expert..when i click it it covers the original chat area with a blank box..and nothing happens.
it was fun, we had lunch then walked around the harbour and rocks area
Lickety chat used to be operational - if you had expert you could click on it, enter a password and chat away from the main chat log. It's maybe out of use now.
And I bet the conversation didn't flag for a minute, Andree.
then we took them to their boat, hope they have a lovely trip, i went to vanuatu once, thought it a horrid place, but i didn't tell them that
thanks haz..saves me trying to use it then.
No problem, zooz.
That was very tactful of you, Andree. Hopefully it has improved - what was horrid about it?
BBL
it was over 20 years ago, so don't remember the details but it seemed very bare compared to other tropical site and so expensive even by today's standards
Bye zooz.
bye zooz
Hopefully it has improved since that time, Andree.
help with to5 please
to5 - a gemstone?
thx haz
You're welcome.
Hello All
Hello sadie.
hello Haz
hi sadie
gm
morning kje
Good morning kje
at 7?
hi kje
my last word de6 please
at7 - plural of a word meaning susceptibility to allergy. Or, run together the preceding at4/5 with pastry products.
de6 - a tyrant or dictator, de plus a word meaning to stain or to see from a distance
like at6 dermatitis
thx haz
and fireworks
Congratulations Andree!
woohoo andree!!!
congrats andree
didnt get the at 7?
perhps a diff clue?
you really are the clue queen haz
If you have the at4/5, in your head add the sometimes vowel and then make it plural.
I'm out of practice, Andree!
wonder what that crown looks like? engarved with babblets?
As long as it has diamonds.....
babblets and monkeys!
diamonds for eyes
and i dots
off to bed for me, its school hols and i have taken tomorrow off work so i can take the kids out for the day
have fun andree
i am tossing up between iceskating and a movie
be active!
and take pics, cuz we wanna laugh ; )
goodnight and happy babbling
Good for you! Ice-skating sounds like something you could supervise from the sidelines, movies might give you the chance to snooze. Although I hate how loud they make soundtracks these days. Do they think we're all deaf?
Bye Andree.
i have asked them to turn the volume down in the past... and other times have stuck tissues in my ears... if it hurts, it is too loud!
Oh good, I'm not the only one. Seriously, it is so loud that I can't 'hear' what people are saying.
i think it is a sign we are getting old haz
That's possibly true, but I did read an article somewhere that said that the sound people are so pleased with all the effects they can do that they pile on the sounds, without thinking how badly it muffles the dialogue. Or we could just be getting old.
yes.... I can see that
It actually makes me reluctant to go and see films in the cinema.
and the laugh tracks on TV are too loud too... besides being annoying
Yes, and they insist on broadcasting ads at top volume as well.
there is a theater near me that is called the lounge... all seats are sofas, chaises, and bean bag chairs... and the have a bar
that is my kind of theater ; )
we sound old and crotchety... we should stop! LOL
But is it still loud?
i Have only been twice, and so far so good... saw Up and Che
We have a series on BBC here called 'Grumpy old women'. Give the ladies any subject and they can grumble about it. It's terribly comforting to know that you're not the only one to rage about things.
LOL haz - sounds... ummm... uplifting
It's very funny. Quite a few of the women interviewed are writers/actresses/comediennes so it's grumbling with humour rather than grumbling with attitude, if you know what I mean.
actually i have no TV at the moment - mine ate a DVD then dies
yes, I can see that it could be funny
How very greedy of the TV. TVs have changed so much, you only seem to get things that look like computer monitors - or cinema screens.
mine is (was I guess) about 7-8 years old, so not slim and sexy... I guess i will have to pry the dvd out... it will not be pretty
I would have absolutely no advice to give on how to extract a DVD from a dead TV.
forceps?
That did come to mind.
Good morning. I figure any machine that does more than 1 thing at a time (a TV with a DVD player, for instance) is probably smarted than me and will have 1 function fail long before that machine gets old
this grid is amazingly fast
Good morning Nef.
Morning Haz. And kje. I would suggest forceps too
hi nef - they are all smarter than me... but I have tools and know how to inflict pain, so they should have a little more respect
afternoon..just in quickly over lunch...can someone clue me the po8 pls..can not see it
ey 4/6 first one?
hey haz...havent seen you in ages..hows things?
po8 - plural for po6 - the remains after Cinderella has been indulging in a little weed?
LOL! kje, They are all smarter than me too; but I don't threaten them.
ey + ** you wish
Hello rolin - I'm well, thanks.
lyn anagram of the yeses
LOLOL - good haz
ey4 - as with the seeing organs, but change second vowel.
Lynn, try PT
ty haz..as always
You're welcome, rolin.
ty
the 6?
plural it lynn
Make it plural.
or, plural it again?
tyty
and the 8 please?
ey8 - what you put in the seeing organ to relieve itching etc.
how ridiculous that ey8 has no singular!
gm everyone
I know. Good morning Esprit.
hi jeanius
hey kj
liked your cinderella clue Haz
thats a lovely pic haz...what did your dayghter graduate in?
Thanks Esprit!
She graduated in Business Studies from Edinburgh University. She's got a job and is staying over there to work.
ty
good for her... she must be good to get work in this climate
congrats haz - what a lovely family pic
She's very relieved, and so are we! It's not a job for life by any means but at least it's a start.
and you have launched her!
ey 7/40?
Thanks, kje. She worked really hard and we were very pleased about all the effort she put into her degree, so we were glad that she has managed to get a job.
ey7 - what you see right before fainting
ey7 - the seeing organ plus a word that can either mean a stain, or to see something from a distance.
kje that would be my naked reflection in a mirror
ey 7/40?
LOL jean
Is there an actual term for that? The closest I've come to ever fainting is seeing flashing things and hearing weird noises in my ears.
ty
actual term for fainting? syncope
ty
No, actual term for what you see before you faint - is it ey7?
no - no official term
there is a term for the blackness that comes over your eyes in certain stroke situations - amarosis fugax
ok..all these lovely clues and i cant make head nor tail of them..tis the signal to go back to work and sort out all that stuff so i can concentrate on the really important bits..like babble..lol bye all
amaurosis
yes, that looks better
Thankfully, I haven't experienced that one.
bye rolin
See you later, rolin.
i fainted once... after getting hit in the head with a ski lift chair... actually did see stars - LOL
So the cartoonists don't have it so far wrong.
nope
i got up, skied down the slope, and kept seeing sp5s for at least 10-15 minutes... quite exciting
That probably wasn't what you would have advised anybody else to do after fainting, was it?
sure, why not - most fainting is actually benign
unless you hurt yourself when falling
But the blow to the head?
no damage... and was fine in a few minutes... after that, it is just watching for signs of concusion
nausea, vomiting, neuro deficits
Fair enough.
po 6/24 please?
and it was the bunny slope - could hardly have them come and carry me off! LOLOL
No, it would have looked bad. Your street cred would never have recovered.
anyone with a clue for ey 8/60?
hi, all. kje...I've found the perfect place to put all of my organizing tips...I'm writing a book.
that is great angel, how is it coming
ey8 - what you put in your organs of sight if they are itching or needing medicated.
po6/24 - what's left after smoking weed.
it's going very well, kje. should be ready to publish soon.
thank you...don't know why I missed that one
ty
You're welcome kfre.
do you have a publisher
it will be published on Amazon...on demand publishing
good for you, angel, let us know when you are done!
ch1212 convinced me to write this book.
Going to take a break for lunch. Bye for now.
hagd haz
3 left here, so will finish off before getting to work
last word is a p4 - should be easy enough
oh sheesh... a pastry
done... and off to the shower
hagd everyone
WTG kje

good morning all
morning boo;)
hello Boo :-)
is ey 6/24 a compound word?
same as ey4,6 add two more letters
if you have the es4,4 it is the last two letters of that
thanks zooz! I was trying all kinds of combo, but not the right one
lol...your welcome.
mmm, this grid has teeth;((
some tricky ones in here.
i try not to list till at least 50%
those who do it listless are strange peopele indeed;))
well i did list early this time as i am trying out babble expert..lol
lol id be lost without babble expert, with it you can money your little heart out and no one is the wiser..usually
monkey even
must admit i am flying through the grid with it. :-)
lol zooz, you can also use babble expert in conjunctions with a speak and type program and not even have to use the keyboard:))
oh wow..now that would be cool.
when i have that set up i use "dragon naturaly speakong" version 10
speaking even
Hiya, neighbors!
howdy judi:)
was it free with the computer or did you have to buy it seperately?.
hello judi
you have to buy it
some of the earlier versions may be freeware by now though
ahh i see, well i had better stick to typing for now..saving up for a new lens for my camera..hahah
www.oldversion.com
*checking out now*
that is a site well worth having in your bookmarks:)
when im setting up a new rig,i go there for all my winzip ,winamp and winrar programs
oh..Norton telling me it is a bad site with threats on it o/0
cannot be zooz, ive used it for years and my a.v.g has never detected a threat
i would never send a babbler to a suspect site
you may have the security settings too high,in that case banner ads will set it off
don`t worry Crossy, i know you wouldn`t..it has found adware on two programs that you can download there..one is on the http://www.oldversion.com/download/mor pheus20.exe & the other is http://www.oldversion.com/download/goz illa40.exe probably thinks as they are `exe` files they may be suspect..lol
but ive looked and dont see it as freeware at this time
damn..still have to stick to the typing then..sounds good though.
lol, most probably ARE exe files, since they are freeware ..chuckle...
true..haha
version 10 cost me $250.00 and is worth every penny
i can rap off 5 letters in under 10 minutes and print them out all without using a keyboard
I have now bookmarked the site ..thanks crossy
hello
its a very handy site indeed
howdy harp
Hiya, harpjane!

movieman... watched "Taken" with Liam Neeson the other night... what a clunker!
sp 5/14 did not find it?
Also, have you seen Public Enemies yet? My sister said it was terrible, but I don't necessarily value her opinion, LOL!
Really, mom? I watched it with my girlfriends Saturday night. We all liked it. Of course, we had quite a bit of wine in us at the time.
It required wine, I think.
But I don't do that anymore, LOL.
sp 5/14... think of a card suit, but change the vowel, or a maker of fine china
And then plural it for the 5/24
oops... meant 6/24
We did agree though - Liam runs like a dork and is a very unlikely secret agent.
Yeah... movies like that require that you believe something about them...
ty
I was like.. ok... he has all these CIA connections, but just goes "rogue"???? And the scene where he is chasing the boat with the car??? We were laughing our you know what's off.
see Lynn.. that's why you need women... for the fine china clue, LOL!

Quiddich? Quidditch? Quittich?
Yeah Judi I may have to take a motion sickness patch with me, LOL.
oh mom2, have fun I did that ast year and it was quite an experience
the golden snitch
My sister got the tickets and today is my birthday, so she is sharing her tickets with me... yeah, it should be fun. I have seen Letterman and that is fun, so I assume this will be much of the same.
I keep trying to get tickets for Tyra Banks, as my kid loves her... no success yet.
Happy Birthday Mom :-)
well happy birthday, and I hope you have a good guest

ey7 - what you see with plus the dalmatian dog's distinctive feature (s)
ty

Visine is a brand of ey******
Congratulations abetter!

ok, off to do stuff.

Hello Scrabbler.
ty

ey7 - three letters for what you see with, four letters for a word which can mean a stain or to see something from a distance.
ro4/5 - a cad, a Don Juan type. It's been in the grid before, r plus three vowels
Bye everyone. Enjoy the day.
ty
Bye Scrabbler - be careful out there!
sa 4/4?
thank you
sa4/4 has been in lots of times before. One letter more and it would be like a type of silky fabric.
nice thank u thats fireworks for me!
Afternoon babblers - just starting out on todays babble journey - hows goes the grid?
ey 8?
Good afternoon FM. It's a nice grid, a few surprises along the way.
ey8 - what you see with plus what you might put in them to medicate or soothe.
hmm OK I dive in and let you know!
Umbrella up ready for the splash.
TY!
Glad you found it, e-gurl.
lol it an interesting mix of letters today.
me too
ey 6/24?
ey6/24 is the plural of the ey4 that precedes it.
THank you again
*bellyflops*
That's okay.
Posture, Ata, posture!
Hi Haz and FMitch and Ata
Hellloooooooo!
Hello Boobear.
*groans* I've been packing!
hey Vicuna
And Vicuna! Hello to you as well.
How is everyone today?
Ooooh, packing! The debate, what to take, what to leave, how heavy is the case, how many liquids can I have.
I'm very well, Vi, and all the better for seeing you.
How have you been? And have the children accomplished major triumphs lately?
*blushes* Why thank you. It's lovely to see you, too. Daughter all safely graduated, I see?
ATta & Vi!!!!
Indeed, their TOG genius knows no bounds, of course.
Daughter is indeed safely graduated.
No limits to genius, Ata can attest to that.
Congratulations to your daughter Haz
Thank you Boo. She worked really hard and deserved to do well.
And now that the session of swimming lessons is over, I am no longer freezing them blue on a daily basis. (The cold only serves to stimulate their prodigious brains all the more, of course.)
Well, it's well know that fish is brain food, so any kind of activity which attunes them to fishiness can only be good. You are a wise mother.
*well known
My cat is insane
Thank you, thank you. =D
Is this news, Ata?
not really ....
Should you not attempt to make them continue with swimming lessons? You'd hate for any prodigious brain cells to atrophy from disuse.
In what ways has the insanity been manifested this time?
Has she eaten something she shouldn't have?
Has she taken to going up the chimney?
she's just leaping around the room, howling
she knows you're leaving her
you are leaving her, she knows it!
And have you rung the vet? People should always ring the vet at the first sign of anything different.
Well, for the next 3 weeks they're taking other fun classes that are at the same time as the swimming, so they can't do both. TOG-boy is doing "kitchen science" and TOG-girl is doing some dance thing. I trust those will be stimulating in some way or other. And they leave me with time at home alone, which I find immensely stimulating.
Could Hobbit have accidentally chewed her tail?
Our cat does that a lot. I never realized it was insanity - i always thought it was normal.
Kitchen science, you say? Is that what we used to call cooking?
You should ring the vet and hold Sily to the phone so that they can hear her howling.
hobbit wouldn't do that
(Actually, when Nightshade leaps around the room howling she usually does so in conjunction with her ongoing attempts to eliminate all potential energy from the room.)
It'll be the key to diagnosis.
Hobbit cound't chew her tail it is just too waggy
Kitchen science means little experiments using kitchen-type ingredients, such as baking soda and vinegar. But yesterday they did make their own bread and butter.
I have the Fan on. This is insufferable for Sily
She's not a fan fan then, i guess.
Kitchen science sounds good. I don't know if I'd like to sample baking soda and vinegar.
noooo it encourages wind-up-tail-ness
You don't eat it, silly. You watch it foam up like a volcano. Much excitement.
hobbit couldn't *reach* her tail!
clue for po6 pls
I know, but where's the fun in making something if you can't eat it afterwards? Or maybe small boys just like the drama of it all.
po6 - what's left after you smoke weed.
ty
*sternly* Not all fun is edible, Haz.
a passed out Michael phelps?
Well, it should be. If I were a benevolent dictator, I'd decree that all fun should have an element of edibility.
Who is this Michael Phelps you're so unfond of, ruru?
I like the way you think... But it sounds as if it might be just the teensiest bit dangerous.
I laugh at danger.
And then flee.
You laugh at it, and then you take a lick.
Michael Phelps just won a boatload of gold medals at the last Olympics, and has confessed to smoking pot at some time or another.
I don't dislike him Haz....
Ah! Now I understand.
because we all really really care
I just like taking potshots at him..lol
*passes by the chog to see that, apparently, haz has been living beneath a rock*
(potshots. get it? Potshots?)
It's a bit like us with Jordan/Katie Price. Except that we really really dislike her.
Northern Ireland's nearly under a rock
It was one of her experiments in edible spelunking, EvaN!
And greetings and salutations to you, Evan!
Listen, they've discovered that Ballymena is sitting on top of geothermal springs or something. Soon we're going to be producing enough power for the world.
Cool!
Okay, maybe that's a tad exaggerated but even so - exciting stuff!
will LIam Neeson open them?
Ballymena Times quotes 'Ballymena is lieterally sitting on a hot bed of energy and plans are firmly in the pieline to tapi it, making ours the first town in Ireland to harness deep geothermal energy.
*literally
literally! goodness me!
Liam Neeson may well apply to be the first to switch on or drill or whatever they're going to do.
I can tell that you're all deeply impressed and jealous. Who needs kitchen science when you've got boiling water on tap from 2 miles below you?
I'm jealous!
ANd it's not bad having Liam Neeson on tap, too.
It's only natural.
geyser land!
Yes indeed. They'll be talking about hot stuff from Ballymena and they won't just be talking about LIam.
if you're really lucky, maybe Ian paisley will stand in for Liam
Ha.
I can't see him drawing the same crowds.
Maybe the travellers will get wind of this and camp out at the drilling site, only moving when they get recompensed...
does Ian Paisley Jr live en Ballymena?
No, he lives in Belfast but is around quite a lot for photo opportunities/helping aggrieved people.
didn't he get fined / arrested / something last week?
He got fined for refusing to disclose the name of an informant.
It'll hardly ruin him, it was something like £5,000.
sounds like a good plan. disclosing informants tends to lead to big booms
I think we lost FM. =(
In this case his informant was a prison officer who had given him information regarding a killing in prison of a high profile thug.
FM may be steadfastly working her way through the grid. Such dedication! Such focus!
I havent even started :D
No, you've been too busy packing and tormenting cats.
Don't get mixed up and pack the cat and torment the suitcase.
No, because suitcases have feelings too.
help with the 7's please?
I have none!
I maanged to pack 4 items of clothing yesterday before .... *quickly changes pic*
Remember those old Samsonite commercials with the gorillas jumping on suitcases? Such dreadful cruelty!
I'm sure they groan when they're fetched down and dusted off. They know there are hard times ahead of being filled and pummelled and flung about and squashed by other suitcases.
to7 - pl yellow gemstone
thanks... that's one down, LOL.
On the other hand, they live to travel.
at7 - plural word for a susceptibility to allergy. (make the at4/6 into an adjective, kind of and plural it)
Alas, how swiftly is my morning flown. Time to fetch the darlings already. Have fun, everyone!
This must be the contradiction they face. To stay at home, unused but safe, or venture forth, used but possibly abused.
there. new pic
Fare theee well, Vi! Say hello to the TOGs for us.
don't have the at 4/6.
ey7 - what you look through, plus what makes a dalmatian dog distinctive.
at4/6 - Humpty Dumpty was this in relation to the wall.
(it's at4/5, actually)
ANd now, farewell!
oh, ok... I'll try it... thanks... for the other two!
at4/5 - I beg your pardon, my fingers and figures get themselves into twists all the time.
thanks... got it!
Well done!
anyone want to clue the other z? I have the one that means the letter.
Ata, when do you actually fly off? (We'll say fly off, although we know you're being deported again)
NM... got it, duh!
11:05 tomorrow morning. With Sily in my bag
From Heathrow? What time do you need to be at the airport?
H'row yep. About 8am
An early start! Are you staying overnight somewhere or just going up in the morning?
just going up in the morning, it's about 2 hours from here
And I take it you're excited?
I feel so awful. Hobbit hasn't left my bags all day. She is just flopped over them
yes and no. yes, obviously, but I hate leaving the mutt
I was wondering how she would be reacting. Do kennels beckon?
they do indeed :(
I know you know she'll be fine, but it doesn't really help, does it?
no! it's *so* silly
Do you have to take her?
no. thank goodness. I thought I would have to, but I've managed to persuade D into doing the deed
That's a relief for you, I'm sure. She will be okay, and doesn't she get out at weekends?
phew for that Ata, sorry back again :)
Ah, welcome back FM.
I cant bear taking her. It rips my heart to shreds! Don't I sound like MrP? Yes, she'll be fine, and D will pick her up at least 1 weekend
Have a good flight Ata and we will miss you but look forward to seeing you in the the time zone!
I'll still be on yahoo im and email, if not babble so frequently :D
I've only taken Spangle that once but I was as hard-hearted as can be and didn't look as she was led away.
oh yes. you simply can't look or else you can't deal with it at all!
Oh yes. does it mean that you'll be on babble later than usual? You are still going to babble a bit, aren't you?
this kind of time is probably the most likely, or during our night
That's good. It would be difficult to store up six weeks worth of babble news for you.
Ata promised that she would be babbleing at some point - so I her hold her to that!
I wish it would dry up a bit outside. We had really heavy rain a while ago and it's still wet underfoot. Or maybe the geothermal springs have sprung a leak, what do you think?
Walter just had a tantrum during his hour of home-schooling
Well done, FM, on extracting that promise.
Walter is being home-schooled? When did that start?
just during the summer. so he's ready to go up a grade or something in the autumn
He just needs to eat fish or have lots of swimming lessons.
Vicuna's twins are thriving on their fish/swimming quota.
He cut his shape in half and sulked
I have to be off, Ata dear, safe flight and see you on the other side! So good to see you on Saturday :)!! Haz look forward to catching up with you in our time zone :))
Sulked because he didn't mean to?
bye dear! have you been enjoying your cherries?
sulked just because, I think
Will do, FM.
oh no - cos MG told him he'd cut his shape in 2, and walter denied it and sulked
Sulking is fun for a while but it gets a bit boring after a while.
You're making me laugh to the point of Spangle being disturbed.
loooool poor spangle
I just love the idea of Walter denying what he had done.
yes!
Chlldren throw tantrums over the strangest things. Our girls used to stage elaborate games and then one would find one tiny imperfection, call the whole thing off and end up with both howling in frustration.
An imaginary dinner party with imaginary guests once had to be abandoned because of a missing toy fork.
No amount of pleading could get that dinner party back on track. Not even changing the menu.
oh yes. everything can be perfect and then .......
DISASTER!
complete and UTTER disaster! terminal disaster
No happiness ever again.
Must investigate Spangle barking. Back later!

hi. im new to this game. can anyone help me?
heas
srry
hi grim sorry you have been alone for a while
hi grim sorry you have been alone for a while
you still here?
yeah
the best place to start is to read the info in the help icon at the top -- but generally this is like boggle
beach you around?
ooh, you just said a word grim :)
yup
thought I killed the chog
got 54 right of the bat, hit the wall already
grid etiquette is that you do not use words that are in the grid in the chat
sorry
I am at work beach and so can only look in intermittently beach -- sorry for the slow response
hi jessmom
np jmc
I'm not yelling at you, just wanted to tell you that was a word.
hi jmc
didn't mean to do that
that's okay grim we all do it sometimes and that is why we have a PB
;-)
Yes, I seem to spend time there each day! ;-)
we also sometimes give each other clues as to words--like jessmom did for you
welcome to babble grimalda.
are you the one who keeps eating all the chocolate beach?
thank you
I only have 44 words so far myself today I have been running in and out so much
y'know, I think I am the choklit culprit
i only have 7 words. this is hard to me
well you need to restock it sometimes too!

I already had two dogs...so I said "If I get this dog, I'm going to name it after you." And I did. He saw me through so many rough times.
how did your other 2 dogs react?
Well, the longhaired chichuaua( I know that is spelled wrong" was "Mistress of the Manor...so she let him right off that it was just that way. And the Westie, his name was Phil (after Phil Collins) was my daughters dog....but when she moved north I wouldn't let her take him....he would have been alone all day....and I just loved him too.
Oh, Phil, was ok with a new dog....he was a really laid-back little man.

just found a funny quote from British lawyer in the 1800s: "A lawyer is a learned gentleman who rescues your estate from your enemies and keeps it himself."
could someone clue that Hwords for me (letter counts, that is?)
LOL Book Doctor Gwen!
I like that!
There are only seven H words in the grid today Nef.
ha4, ha4, ha5, ha4, he4, he5, he4
A friend sent me a quote from a 1904 Hospital board meeting describiong what student nurses needed to bring for nursing training today. It's not nearly as cute, but it is good!
I've just come back off holiday and I had he5/14 of washing to do and now a he4.6 of ironing.
well with 10 left, I must say goodnight. Thank you everyone for the clues.
There wasn't much he4/5 (other than in tempers) on my hol.
so it's Ha ha ha and he he he? thanks! ;-)
It was warm and sunny the week BEFORE we went on hol.
Goodbye Magyk! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log
Today's theme is your favorite vacation sp4/5 Jacula
Well, I never got changed since movie posters, so I do apologize for Jesus Christ Superstar.
LOL, Min. I'd post a pic of the Maldives, but I haven't been there... yet.
"The 1904 N___ Hospital Annual Report included these instructions for nursing students: “When coming to the Hospital they shall bring with them the following articles: Three wash dresses, six large white aprons, a supply of plain underclothing, two bags for soiled clothes, one pair of scissors, a pin ball, napkin ring and a time piece is almost indispensable. Nurses are required to wear noiseless shoes. After acceptance, the Training School uniform is worn while on duty. Material for dresses will be sold at cost price.â€
Well, the pic of my old dog was taken in North Wales and I do feel hiraeth if I'm away from there for too long.
A napkin ring was indespensible?
Anapkin ring?? And as for the plain underwear, who was going to see it?
Also, why a pinball?
kind of interesting isn't it? I wondered about the "pin ball" at first too; but on re-reading it I think it meant it was for pins
I assume to plain underwear was to put the 'sex-crazed' mal medical students off?
Oh, like a pin cushion.
Ah, a pin cushion?
when you look at those old pictures of nurses; you wouldn't ever think that THEY would have worn anything BUT plain underwear!
these days we all seem to be showing off all our unplain panties...
well, the "young" ones anyway,red.
indeed, sometimes I wonder how the new scrubs are even practical...
back in the old days (when I was a student nurse); we had dresses that the buttons were removeable for washing. There were button holes on both sides of the front of the dress and the buttons were held on by what looked like mini short bobby pins.
(looks up, sees underwear chat, goes back to book)
Ok, sowe were never practical.
and we had an "Alice in Wonderland" type of white apron that went on over the top
BDG, it is historical Underwear.
Nef, you are kidding.
I have never even worn the proverbial nursing cap.
I remember my Mum removing Dad's shirt buttons before putting shirts through the mangle/wringer. This was after rubber buttons went out of fashion and plastic ones came in. Imagine that, having to sew all the buttons on shirts after every wash!
This is all so insane, I think I would have just sort of washed them, buttons on.
and had a lot of busted up buttons.
jac, a lot of dry cleaners still remove the buttons and reattach them for each wash. they have too - the chemical melt the buttons
nope. red, our uniforms were "cleaning lady blue button up the full front" dresses withthe big white starched Alice in wonderland aprons. The aprons buttoned at the waist in back and our bandage sizzors were tucked through that back
Red - Mum did in the end. If we heard the occasional 'crack', she'd just say, 'Oops!' and sew a new one on.
lol - I am wearing my dad's old scrub top right now!
she'd take off and resew buttons each time? WOW. I'm impressed! Most of the removable buttons had these little metal button pins in them
wow....
Trif - if it's your job to be a button sewer-onner (if there is such a word) fair enough. But, for the average busy mother and housewife, that's a bridge too far.
I totally agree, Jac
I remember those metal pins, Nef. But in my grandfathers' shirts, not my dads - apart from his army stuff.
I think there are women who do just that! mind you, *I* don't do dry cleaning at home, just regular wash!
well, our nursing caps were fairly large; they were the kind often seen in old movies and 1960's TV shows
If the Stepford Wives want to sew buttons on, let them. I won't be joining them 'cos I'll probably be gardening, Babbling or writing a book.
Isn't "dry cleaning" when you scratch something off with your fingernail?
wow, no cap. i never got one.
lol - just about tor!
I have a 'sewing session' after every ironing session. Anythings that needs repairing gets done. Then there are the impromptu sewing sessions when daughter has a dress strap/zip emergency and such like.
Torg - LOL! re the drycleaning.
One of my Uncles used to tease his wife that she wore his clothes out by ironing them so much. She would iron sheets and pajamas even; but he did get her to stop ironing his underwear shortly after they were married
How did he do that, Nef?
yes,my MIL was like that - ironed EVERYTHING even tee shirts and thelike
to me (now at this point of my life) I'd throw something out rather than iron it. I do not like to iron anymore
Incidentally, it's the washing process that makes clothes thin and go into holes. Especially the harsh modern detergents.
i actually don't mind it - you do get a nice sense of accomplishemnt
she was ironing his undershorts and used starch on them too. He just let her *know* in no uncertain terms he didn't want his "tighty-whiteys" sironed OR startched
harsher detergents now?? wow, I am surprised. I guess I always imagine all the lye, and borax and bluing I used to hear my grammy speak of would have been way harsher, but maybe not.
I iron teeshirts, trousers, jeans, knicker gussets if they need it (for comfort!) I also iron blouses, shirts, skirts and a lot of other things, but not towels, tea towels, duvet covers, sheets etc.
Trif - have you ever read the list of chemicals in modern washing liquids?
i iron tablecloths and napkins, but NOT sheets or tea towels
The fabrics were weaker ..
I guess not jac. bummer
I just hang everything before they wrinkle! :-D
Torg's right there.
Cotton is the thing that usually develops pin holes with today's wash liquids.
there are so many additives in a scoop of detergent it's amazing to me.
I need to get a new washing line. want one of those spinning ones, I think Can't decide whether to go with the kind where the lines are parallel, or the kind shaped like an umbrella, with concentric circles
Nef - if you have the space to hang everything for a family of 4 or 5, you're lucky.
My rotary airer (spinning washing line) is and upside down umbrella with 4 sides.
I remember making soap as a kid; then my Aunt and Grandma would shave off a piece of soap for flakes. It didn't take a whole lot and they'd say that if there were suds; you were using too much
Nothing drys washing like a good straight old-fashioned line though!
I agree withyou on the straight lines, Jac. I liked them better than the umbrella shaped one I have now
If you use a rotary airer, peg stuff onto every other line on each side. Dries stuff quicker.
Ah grating soap. I remember that, and then came LUX Flakes...
but doesn't handle nearly enough stuff that way
No, Nef, but when the outside stuff dries, you just move stuff around.
LUX flakes? Is that a British brand?
I guess it is if you don't know it, Nef.
I find that the umbrella shaped lines take longer and don't handle as much laundry as the straight lines
Apparently, LUX originated in Australia.
hmmm. I think maybe the straight one would work faster. I had to get five trees taken down this fall, and thus lost my clothesline!
Trifi, if you do hang clothes, get an old-fashione straight line pole and use that. I'm really not a fan of this umbrella one at all
seriously? I loved the one my MIL had in ireland.
I've had a straight clothes line ready to go back up when I have 3 posts to hang it from for about 2 years now. That's what I used to do when I first moved here - concrete line post to tree to other concrete post. The washing dried brilliantly.
my laundry is on the second floor, and sometimes I toy with the idea of setting up a line like you see in old new york - out the window, across the driveway, and attached to a tree. two stories up. what a hoot that would be!
Your MIL had an umbrella one? Did You use it much; or was it the facination of something different
no, I used it all the time. seemed quite utilitarian, and didn't use up as much lawn space
Trifi; that would be wonderful to see!
hi all
hi jmc!
hi jmc!
that is one of the things I miss about my husband -- he did all the laundry.
Unfortunately, both line posts were casualties of ex-hubs garden redesigning (where the path went) and never got rebuilt. The tree is still there but is almost dead. Beloved (new partner) wants to chop it down, but I think pollarding (taking the top off) would do the trick to rejuvenate it. And he still hasn't put me 2 new line posts up.
If I could do it out of the back of the house, I might actually do it, but out the front of the house? maybe not
and I told him if he wanted ironed shirts he had to do them during football games
LOL! I let my DH cook; but he is NOT allowed to wash clothes or do laundry!@
my mil gave me lecture about using cold water to wash and I told her to tell her son ans she nearly fainted
lol jmc - I sort of made a point of ahem, "never" getting his shirts right --eventually he resigned himself to taking them to the cleaners. I did all the other stuff, just not his shirts
Hi jmcnrick! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi min how the heck are you?
I never iron anything. If it is wrinkled I don't really care
I HATE ironing shirts, though, I have to admit that after years of doing so, it doesn't take a minute to do.
Shhot! If I want to finish the grid; I'd better shut up and babble!
I'm well. I finished at 8:54. Now I am surfing the web.
nEF - SHUT UP AND bABBLE!
good for you min! I still have 57 to go

help with the de 6 pls
Oh dear! Another day gone when I didn't update my blog. I did however harvest soft fruits, clean the guinea pig hutches, do the recycling, make ribs, chips and salad for dinner (all home made not frozen or packet), spoke to my friend from NY on the 'phone for over an hour, my Mum on the phone same, wrote to my aunt and sent her a birthday card, played games with my Babble friend on Facebook, etc., etc.

Dosh = money, jmc.

Old 60s slang word but older than that.
dosh, various definitions, common word spoken by the very drunk
if it was your last word min I feel less bad about not sp4ting it ;-)
I missed it in the 60s
<peaks at Jac, hoping she won't see me> I didn't know it meant that either
Saw ya!
well yo yelled at me last time! ;-P
Gwen - not a 'drunk' word here in UK.
Nef - my caps lock prob got stuck. This keyboard needs cleaning again.

Since there are plenty of cluers here,I'm saying adios
Goodnight to my fellow babblers!I'll see you tomorrow

Night, Min Sleep well!
I just investigated the possibility of going to bed - Beloved is one my side with all the duvet over that side, his arm hanging over the edge of my side of the bed, his head firmly in the middle of my pillow and snoring fit to wake the dead.:(

French for 'left' (rather than right), jmc.
sorry jmc. I don't have it
ty jac
EEk - actually,I think it's right. Gauche is left.
Isn't it?
well no matter I got the right word

You did.
It's a long time since I was in school doing French.
I think I am going to get the list....this is taking me forever
my french teacher passed me if I promised never to take french again
ey8 = what you put into your seeing orbs wen they need soothing.
that is so mean, jmc!!!
LOL, jmc.
My stepdaughter's German teacher is still learning and 'step' is ahead of her and so the teacher checks with her when she says something. How mad is that?
the strange thing is that the same thing happened to my brother at a different school
jmc - you and your bro must have either a very bad grasp or very bad accents.
how is your stepdaughter settling in, jac?
no my brother had a fairly good command of french -- I just think the teachers were snobs about the Texas accented french
I had a fairly limited grasp I confess
As well as can be expected, Trif. She loves the school, though she was asleep beside the sports ground during sports day earlier. I heard the whole commentary from in our garden. 'Your house won!' said I when she got home. 'Did they?' she said. Then,'How do you know that?'
LOL
I keep tryin mosh in these grids Do4 enable ever update?
I am so glad she is doing well. you are such a special person, giving her a chance to have a better life
Well, jmc, the vowel sounds are important when speaking any language. You have to become an actor when speaking in another tongue, even if it's just a town's accent away from you.
You have to step out of yourself and become a character or personality in the other accent or language.
well I am content with my spanish
jmc - 'Enable' doesn't accept thewword 'mosh'. LOL
Enable has obviously never attended a rock festival.
I know but I think mosh is a word of today!

Just as you should, Shadow.

No idea jmc.
brb
Erm, you didn't mention the aubergine (eggplant) quantity in your recipe, jmc.
Oh, you did. Just one?
Is that a recipe for 1 or 2 servings?
one medium eggplant makes enough for 4 people -- it is quite a large casserole
Time for a video link methinks. Cue Freddie Mercury 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' http://tinyurl.com/jgdc3
I thought if i scrolled through the names the name I was trying to remember might jumpt out at me but the list is too too long
I wold use at least 3 UK grown aubergines for that recipe.
I am not sure how big aubergines are
a medium eggplant is about 2-3 lbs
help with the pi6 please?

lesse.. what are the seven wonders of the world?
I watched the moon landing in an inner city setting, in Louisville. A bunch of the folks watching stood up and booed when Armstrong made his "one small step" comment. The space program was taking funds away from other programs that could have repaired the inner cities after the riots, etc.
Then LAST year, it came almost full circle as I played in an orchestra that did a program narrated by Buzz Aldrin!
