Those are ethical questions, Stid. No law states when a teacher needs to step in. There is a fair assumption that parents are involved with their students. Schools will monitor up to a point, and since Stidkid1 doesnt' have an iep...they are less likely to intervene.

I am a parent, River -- who is studying to be a teacher, and have just finished the component of the coursework that relates to teacher responsibilities to monitor ALL students for emerging difficulties as the year goes on.
in that arbitration (should be set up within 30 days of receipt of notice), the arbitrator can decide how the school has missed the boat. the arbitrator can tell the school to pay for the evaluation and to henceforth treat the student as a special education student.
We began to request information from the teacher a month ago. I made a formal request for evaluation three weeks ago -- email to the counselor who should be obligated to at least acknowledge she read the mail and tell me who or how to restate the request if necessary.
A primary school that I went to got sued last year for failure of Duty of Care and this has been happening well over 25 years
Son has a 504 (accomodations only) plan based on some physical/neurological impairments, so he should already be somewhat on EVERYONE's radar...

I was in exactly that jumping up and down SO mad point when I pulled them out. Never have looked back
504's get slipped thru the cracks. it's unfortunate, but it's true. He's still under special education and should thus have his case taken to the OPE department at the state level. You can try to follow proto-call, but I personally would contact CAP at voc rehab and ask for an advocate to help you through this process

okay, thanks for letting me vent. The biggest concern is that because we are not flies on the wall we were relying on the child's admittedly inaccurate reports of what goes on in school. So we are most worried about next year, and the potential for long-term impacts for college/work

i dealt with LDs too. yes indeed. my most LD kid is now rich from day trading and makes 25% on his money a year. he is married with 2 kids and doing so well. after i spent his entire childhood telling everyone he would never function independently. amazing. his wife is a jewel.

Pf4/9!I finished the grid too early. I may as well do a story of clues. My hubby has been out of work since November. Husband made an unwi 4/8 choice & quit his job out of the blue. I went into a pu 4/6 rage and there was an argument.Since then,things have been very rough. Communication wi5/18 between us have completely shut down. I've been thinking a lot about my life lately. Sometimes I wi 4/9 I was a se 4/4 into the future. Sometimes I wi4/9 that I had ma wi5/18 choices in my life and taken a different ro4/5 to the future. Sometimes my life dr5/12 me out and I wi4/9 I could start over fr 5/18. Sometimes I wi 4/9 that I coud be hi4/5ed as a doctor or lawyer. Although I do get pay ra 5/10s sometimes, it isn't enough. I wi 4/9 was an he 4/5 to a throne¬ have to worry about money or work. My husband has been trying hard to look for a job. However,it ir4/4 me to no end when I come home from work to see him playing Farmville. I wouldn't even care if he worked at McDonald's selling fr 5/16 at this point. I know husband ru 4/5 the day he quit his job. Oh well,it is we5/20 how life turn out sometimes. Da4/5!Hubby is kicking off the computer again.
