OK, looking back at the number question, I have reached out to my "Usage and Abusage" by Eric Partridge (considered the guru). He says: Number; whether it takes a singular or a plural verb. If a group of words, especially a partitive group, conveys the idea of plurality, a number of individuals, the verb is in the plural, even though the governing noun is singular, but the berb is singular if the group conveys the idea of oneness.
unpoof for a sec. My point is that the subject should agree with the predicate.

There are some things that really jar, for instance I personally hate "different to" because I was always taught "different from", but you just have to get used to some things without having to say them yourself. Life's too short, as they say, and nobody dies from the wrong use of language.
And ending sentences with prepositions is a habit I'm fond of.

Tim is in the control group...he's receiving a combination of three chemo drugs...
He's just had one session so far...evidently the tough times are to come in a couple of weeks...
sounds pretty intensive. How long will the chemo be given to him?
We have company this weekend...Tim's mom, step-dad, and niece...but I'm going to a day spa this afternoon for a few hours!
Chemo is indefinite...scans every 8 weeks...

ekg is easy :) he'll need cardiac rehab, too, no?
he is very happy with news and hopefull he will be back on the field next month. this surgery wasnt as bad for him - only under for 4 hours.

small note about yesterday's drama: they weren't vipers. We found snake eggs and vipers are viviparous so my husband googled them and they are legless lizards "slow worms", so I am totally not worried

My Resignation I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again. it is not very often that i can catch the essence of an event,but in honor my my father who his now failing,i shall try this before i head off to work: my best memory as a child was going on fishing trips with my father.he would rouse me out of bed at the unreal seeming hour of 4 am and i would sluggishly get dressed,have a pee and head down to the kitchen.my mother would sometimes be up and make us a full english style breakfast before we headed out.I can actually see in my minds eye the big checkered thermos my dad used to bring with us,full of hot sweet coffee for the trip.As we drove to the marina ,i would drowse off again and awaken with my father shaking my shoulder and to the sight of our boat tied to a dock half hidden in the morning mist.How i still love the smells,of the marina,of the motor running at idle as we prepared to shove off,the smell of my dads old spice and my first taste of coffee that he would share with me.it was a secret world,a world of men,with mother safely back at home and the brave hunters about to embark. we almost seem to float on the morning water fog somewhere between air and water as the sun began to rise and burn away to fog and a chill would course through me as a loon gave it,s haunting call nearby and i did my first cast of the day.The rising sun would reflect off the beads of water clinging to the line and it is still a memory i shall never forget..
