1:17 am

aha, interesting grid

1:18 am

it

1:18 am

it scared me for a moment as I couldn't see a single word in the begining

1:18 am

me too, just started monkeying

check the home page for an invite as well

1:19 am

Interesting! It's a beast.

1:19 am

can't find the ok5 though

1:19 am

20 left off to work :-)

oh come now, not one, ru?? even I could, so that's bad, ha ha!!

1:19 am

Wow, George! (invite accepted) "A pleasure to meet you!"

1:19 am

Hoho, flosey -- I got it right away! (the ok word)

1:19 am

1:20 am

finally,

oh yeah, ha! well we met already on this, I think?? it's as much of a pleasure for me, always is, meeting nice folk!! not enough of'em in the world!

1:20 am

stuck on ta5

1:20 am

We did...but another "connection" makes for a "stronger" one, eh?

1:22 am

25 left. I am guessing listing is in order

1:22 am

btw, it's my son's birthday on July 19, 3:52 am. I keep threatening to phone him at that time some year.

1:22 am

I don't have one of those yet, flosey

yeah, something like that! your connected with my sis on there as well, I see!

1:22 am

oh, you should, jilli! he "woke" you at that time at least once!! LOL

1:23 am

would that be Shivs, George?

yeah, that it would--check her page, you'll have at least a good headshake over what she's posted in her updates, news article!!

1:23 am

will do ;)

1:23 am

oh, thanks George, I didn't know who she was, will now accept!

1:24 am

1:26 am

oh, didn't see her

eh, flosey?

1:26 am

I can't find that one either ru

I only need clues for 51 more words, ha! not doing so well with this one, baffling what little brain I have!

1:27 am

missing 3 now, ap6, pe6, and ta5

1:27 am

ap6 is an alt spelling of ap5

1:27 am

well, she's probably on at a different time from my usual ones

1:27 am

ty jellen

yeah, that might really help, if I had ap5, ha!

1:27 am

I've tried that so many ways, Jellen - obviously there's one more!!

1:28 am

ap5 is a sleep disorder

1:28 am

Geo, the link on your post doesn't work :(

1:28 am

don't let it disrupt your sleep goerge

1:28 am

Put a vowel in the middle

ooh, ta very much, do know what that is!! xx

both spellings of it I see here, as well

yours and ours!

ha! very funny ruru

1:30 am

finally, thanks, was putting the extra vowel in wrong place!

1:30 am

now, pe6? any clues please?

1:31 am

scary phantom: impotent

1:31 am

I'm no help on the 6's, I only have 1

1:31 am

lol, ruru!

1:31 am

1:32 am

pe* (writing utensil) + ***pole (incipient frog)

1:32 am

oh, thanks Jellen

1:32 am

thx jellen ;)

1:33 am

1:36 am

Well, I think I've monkeyed everything and still not finding a ta5 :(

1:36 am

I think I saw that the top T is ti7 -- may I have a clue please?

1:54 am

ru, just noticed your icon, where is it? it's beautiful

1:54 am

he had a lot of work done in the past two weeks (3 trips to Geneva) and now has a lot of pain. Doesn't want to go back, but I don't know how safe it is for him to be taking my painkillers with his heart problems

1:55 am

I think it is Ansel Adams flosey.. a shot of half dome in yosemite

1:55 am

I think he has an infectionunderneath

1:55 am

thanks, it's beautiful

1:56 am

hopefully the dentist will get to the root of the problem so to speak

1:56 am

he relies on my for medical opinions, but I'm no doctor!

Then doesn't he need antibiotics? Could he just phone doctor for advice on painkillers, without needing a visit?

1:56 am

well for sure you don't want to be an indentured servant ruby

1:57 am

I intend to do that this morning. He loves the dentist, finds him charming etc., but never asks questions and has no idea what work he had done

1:57 am

*giggle*

1:57 am

thank you for the smile, ruru

1:57 am

Ruby, Nicky would be in agony if she hadn't taken antibiotics better get an opinion

1:58 am

I think that one of the big problems in getting older is that there is no one doctor who knows your whole situation.

1:58 am

le pouef.. a revoir mes amis

1:58 am

bonne nuit, ruru

1:58 am

au revoir, mon chou

1:58 am

2:38 am

got it thanks

any clue for an 6-18 please

2:39 am

an + dont look ** that + not yes

thanks

3 to go

2:41 am

I am trying to do this without more words today

2:42 am

20 left here

28 here, but not listing, just picking up occasional clues from the chog!

2:43 am

I am looking at lickety

2:43 am

first i try to get as many as i can on my own - then go to lickety - then go to more words

2:43 am

I love the clues in the chog

I do find that not using lickety makes me think more, but when it's a huge grid like yesterday's there is no way I would have time without lickety. With a small one like today's, I really enjoy the challenge - and I started early in the morning for me, so don't feel I should really be doing something else with my day!

2:48 am

i got 220 on my own yesterday and i felt good about that but no way i could finish any of these on my own

FIREWORKS..... any clues before i go

2:49 am

good one sandra well done

No thanks sandra.

2:49 am

nor me thanks

bye then.........

2:50 am

bye sandra .

2:50 am

Sally, is shropshire in a rural area?

I very rarely ask for clues, sandy, but don't feel it's cheating if I benefit from someone else asking!

2:51 am

lol, me too

2:51 am

but i will ask when some word is driving me mad

Very rural sandy. Hardly see a vehicle passing except for farm ones.

(tempting fate, there, no doubt there will be a flood of cars down the lane!)

2:52 am

how lovely, we live in a small rural area in the middle of suburbs, we have the benefits of seemingly being in the middle of the country and the convenience of being near all the facilities

2:54 am

We have to supply our own water and have a large tank which is full at the moment and we are battleaxed in behind other properties with a half kilometre driveway so we dont have any traffic at all - its really nice

I do like this size of puzzle, where there are perhaps two words from one square, and then it's greyed out. Feels very satisfying.

2:55 am

I have the top line greyed and the middle column , it looks balanced lol

lol, have the top line and the left column greyed, and just need to finish the D to get the right column greyed.

2:57 am

i have one more d to get

Ahah! Right column greyed.

3:00 am

ga 5/20 anyone?

3:00 am

lol i still need that one d, am working on it

Think I'll work on the bottom row now, only two words missing from there, then the ones in the middle can't escape.

3:02 am

hots ga + you **ed a clue + the sixth letter

ty sandy. Thought of that but couldn't make it work was looking at the wrong placement of the last letter!

3:11 am

still need one f and one d to have a greyed border all round

Just need one O from second column, and 9 Ps to finish.

3:12 am

11 left here

Got the O! Now just to get down to the Ps.

3:18 am

10 left but I have slowed hugely

3:29 am

8 left and am resisting more words - I think I will go and feed horses and return afresh - keep going sally you must nearly be there by now

5 left sandy, sigh. Must finish now, can't leave it here!

3:30 am

2 left - pa5/12 and po6/21 .

3:30 am

an English Xmas Pa5.12

3:31 am

thanks lynxx , glad i didnt disappear

3:31 am

7 to go now

In a puff of smoke?!

3:32 am

just like barbara eden

3:32 am

po6.21 like wo****, asian dumplings in soup

3:32 am

I wish

3:32 am

Good morning/evening all.

3:32 am

Lynxx - I've been gone too long - didn't see that. Thanks.

3:33 am

hi haz

Don't know Barbara Eden, but do know my pa5/12s!

3:33 am

morning Haz

3:33 am

Hello! We're back to starvation rations, I see.

Hi Haz. 2 to go so excuse me if I concentrate.

3:34 am

sally, one of my 7 left is a four letter !!

3:34 am

I won't take offence (that Sally won't talk to me, grumble, grumble)

3:36 am

actually three of the seven i have left are four letter words - ...............im hopeless

3:36 am

Thank you, lynxx, for the last two

3:37 am

Congrats Christine

3:37 am

in fact on researching my predicament, there are 4 of the 7 which are 4 letter words

3:37 am

well done chris

Fireworks! lol sandy.

My last one was a fish if that's any comfort :-)

3:37 am

wtg!! well done sally

3:38 am

Congratulations to the finishers!

3:38 am

Congrats Sally!

Good morning Haz, how are you today?

Do you want any hints, sandy?

3:38 am

good morning!

Hi Ata.

3:39 am

Ah! Now she speaks! Hello, Sally, I'm very well. And you? And Ata, good morning!

3:39 am

no, babble today is like the tour de france for me , I am not looking forward to the finish

Britain is awake I see.

3:39 am

morning Ata

3:39 am

Britain has been out walking the dog for a while :)

This part of Britain was up at 6 letting out the chooks :-)

How is young Hobbit?

3:40 am

This part of Britain (and Northern Ireland) had a 2 am phone call from someone thinking that their friend's hamster had broken its leg.

3:40 am

flopped!

3:41 am

oh no! 2am!

rofl!! Oh Haz you could write a book.

3:41 am

BBL

3:41 am

how do you tell whether a hamster has broken its leg anyway?

3:41 am

Husband was strangely unsympathetic.

3:41 am

funny that ...

It doesn't run round its wheel evenly, but more whirr, clink

3:42 am

We need to work on his telephone manner. 'Unreasonable' was a word used more than once.

3:42 am

I think unreasonable is perfectly reasonable at that hour!

Can you imagine a hamster with its leg in plaster?

3:42 am

an emergency is an emergency!

I think I would have been a bit stronger than unreasonable!

People apparently make the most pecular emergency calls to 999.

3:44 am

I know, I think they just expect service at any time. Run out of nappies? Ring the ambulance.

For instance: <http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/31221-99 9-call-for-pizza-emergency>

I like this one: a woman called the police to come and arrest her boyfriend because he'd put her hamster out in the rain (perhaps it was the same hamster, Haz): <http://forums.theregister.co.uk/forum /1/2008/02/01/999_timewasters/>

3:46 am

slow worm is back!

3:47 am

yay slow worm!

I like the idea: Why don't the operators just have a button that they can press that will play some sort of "go away, you are an idiot and if you call again we will prosecute you" type recorderd message before cutting them off?

3:47 am

Hamsters are the cause of many woes. I once had to step out of the shower to answer the phone to a woman who reported that her hamster had an itch. It had been itching for 3 months, but why not ring on a Sunday morning?

3:48 am

LMAO!!!

3:48 am

itchy hamster!

3:49 am

I like the whirr clink

3:49 am

I managed to keep calm that time - I did lose it with the girl who kept ringing up about the hamster baby that had been 'savaged'. She kept going on about being pregnant and I ended up telling her that I didn't care. I'm as bad as husband.

The only time I have ever called a vet in an emergency was when a cat was obviously dieing (sp?), and the only time I have ever called an ambulance was when husband did his spectacular Psycho scene last year and ended up in hospital in the middle of the night with a near broken night.

3:49 am

how are you, ata

Sorry, should have read broken neck. Mine was the broken night!

3:50 am

don't hamsters eat their babies?

3:50 am

oh gosh, that hamster. that was an effort!

3:50 am

I absolutely don't mind genuine emergencies, I don't mind some of the frequent callers (one lady is lonely and just likes a chat about her cat), but the headcases are annoying.

Back in a bit, just going to take said husband cup of tea.

3:51 am

ok, ty, ruby! recovering from the monthly attention to the rear end of the spaniel ...

3:51 am

Yes, the baby hamster had been partially eaten by the mother - nothing could get the girl sensed into the fact that a savaged hamster baby = soon to be dead hamster.

3:51 am

I can understand being nice to the lonely lady, but pregnant-lady hamster emergencies don't sound very sympathy-producing....

3:52 am

when my son was little we had nasty little gerbils that regularly ate their babies!

3:52 am

no wonder he and his wife don't have children!

3:53 am

Lonely cat lady was very worried that she could pass her shingles on4 the cat. She rang one day to see whether she could give the cat an extra treat. I said no (hard-hearted).

3:53 am

ata: how do you get into the grid so often? I think it's very suspicious!

3:53 am

pooooor cat

3:53 am

I don't as much as peri :)

3:54 am

But the lady agreed with me! She probably went and told Daisy that her treat wasn't vet prescribed.

3:54 am

did the cat ever have chicken pox?

3:54 am

(I think you have to have had chicken pox to get shingles, n'est-ce pas?

3:55 am

Yes, shingles is the result of the virus lying dormant. Humans can't pass on the virus to cats.

3:55 am

Sally - are you able to expand on the "Psycho Night' that has me fascinated?

3:56 am

hamsters are obviously the source of much amusement- I have never even seen one

3:56 am

Psycho night sunds like a good idea for a babble pajama party

3:56 am

never seen a hamster!

3:56 am

they're like long-tailed fild mice

3:56 am

actually she has gone to give him a cuppa

3:57 am

or is that gerbils? I can never remember

3:57 am

we don't have hamsters here

3:57 am

just mice, rats, possums, kangaroos, bandicoots etc

3:57 am

Psycho night was the time her husband fell in the bathroom, copious amounts of blood etc.

3:57 am

sandy: my prediction (really, hope) is that Lance takes the Tourmalet on Thursday. Then I will be ecstatic!

3:57 am

nobody has them as pets?

3:57 am

aaagggghhhh

3:58 am

yes, people in America get them as "clean" pets

3:58 am

that don't have to be walked or groomed

3:58 am

LOL Ruby, I will send you a lance armstrong cartoon - maybe you could stick a photo of his face on your beloved's face - you would adore him instantly

3:58 am

I'll be astonished if someone in California isn't making hamster outfits.

3:59 am

nobody in Aus that I know of Ata - never seen one in a pet shop

3:59 am

they do, Haz. I have a friend who has a hamster outfit. So does her husband

3:59 am

even though that's not what you meant :P

3:59 am

I LOVE It. (whoops, caps, sorry). Can you picture a chow chow in dog clothes? Hilarious idea for me!

3:59 am

Maybe all Aussie vets have campaigned to keep hamsters out of the country.

3:59 am

rofl

3:59 am

I knew it. Hamster Haute Couture.

4:00 am

they've probably been eaten by Aussie snakes or Mark Renshaw!

4:00 am

lolol poor mark renshaw

4:00 am

ask herin or lynxx when they come on if they have ever seen one- they live on the other side of Aus

4:01 am

poor Mark, he is much maligned

4:01 am

he didnt deserve to get kicked out

4:01 am

I say Mark was unjustly treated!!

4:01 am

I am making jokes about him, but I agree with Sandy about his punishment being too harsh!

4:02 am

and I am hoping that Vinokorov breaks Contador's heart, if he actually has one!

4:03 am

How did we get from hamsters to bikes?

4:03 am

No hamsters, they are banned. Guinea Pigs rule!

4:03 am

Are hamsters really banned?

Back. Oh no, not sport chog again!

4:03 am

I thin it's the clothing and the turning wheels.....

4:03 am

when did Vino turn from "Vino-kourov" to "Vin-o-korov" said in about 3 microseconds

4:03 am

Whoever instituted the ban is obviously a far-seeing person.

4:04 am

Hello, Sally!

4:04 am

ok, no more sports talk, Sally

4:04 am

Apparently so Haz, the rabbits and the cane toads are quite enough

4:04 am

Can I be permitted a moment of glory for Northern Ireland golfers? Graeme McDowell won the US open, Rory McIlroy tied for third in the British. Not bad for a little country.

Sport-free zone, this household.

4:05 am

i have sent it Ruby

4:05 am

how big are can toads? and are they poisonous?

4:05 am

ruby, if you're looking at a frog, just leave it be.

4:06 am

Cane toads can be small or big depends how old they are

4:06 am

in Miami we had poisonous ones the size of dinner plates!

rofl haz!!

4:06 am

cane toads are disgustingly big and horrible to look at and are poisonous! nothing can eat them and so they are spreading

4:06 am

I really like frogs and toads, but have only seen one in 12 years here

4:06 am

I just have visions of a poor wee frog, gulping away and ruby staring....

4:06 am

wow that is large, they get big in queensland and are not in the west yet

4:07 am

Ruby have you looked at your email

Lots of frogs and toads here. Think they are wonderful. Though once, when husband found a toad and was showing it to me, it weed all over his hand. He washed rather quickly!

4:07 am

hahah

Weren't cane toads introduced deliberately, sandy? Where from?

4:08 am

back in a minute must feed those nags

4:08 am

I'll do it when I go out of here. I can't look at it without losing babble

4:08 am

ok, looking at mail

Perhaps the frogs need identity badges, Haz. (only teasing, ruby)

4:08 am

they were introduced to control something in the cane fields in queensland but not sure from where

4:09 am

We imported the cane toads from Hawaii - stupid stupid stupid

4:09 am

think they were introduced, yes

So do the cane toads have natural predators in Hawaii?

4:09 am

funny cartoon, sandy!

4:09 am

directed at me, proably

4:10 am

not at all Ruby, you probably look great in bike shorts

4:10 am

it's the shirt that's the problem!

4:11 am

you should see the silly Frenchmen all over our country roads in their full Tour kits and grey hair!

4:11 am

they are all over Kent too, ruby!

4:12 am

I laughed at some of the outfits last night- but I am confused over the not so attractive guys wearing 'budgie smugglers' and running along side

4:12 am

why do they need costumes to ride? When I was a runner, it was just shorts and a t-shirt and good shoes

4:12 am

It's some kind of thought process that makes them think that if they wear the gear, they will have some of the glory for themselves.

4:12 am

I saw one guy expose himself! The cameras gave him a very quick pass!

4:13 am

damn i missed that one

4:13 am

I couldn't believe my eyes' maybe I was hallucinating!

4:13 am

wishful thinking no doubt]

4:14 am

I haven't seen the devil this year :(

4:14 am

ooh have to feed nags-

4:14 am

but icky paunchy guys in little shorts and no shirts

4:15 am

see you later, after lunch and Tour or maybe a few mins before Tour

4:15 am

Bye ruby.

4:15 am

after age 50, men should be required by law to keep their shirts on!

bye for now ruby

4:15 am

(When does the Tour end?)

4:15 am

bye sally

And their shorts on!

4:16 am

Sunday

4:16 am

It's been 3 months so far - does it go on until Christmas?

4:16 am

hahah

4:16 am

I guess it feels that way to non-enthusiasts (most sane people)

4:17 am

it finishes just in time for the new football season to start :P:P

4:17 am

also, two big European track and field events

4:18 am

and then the houseguest start arriving!!!!!

4:19 am

isn't natto Japanese sticky beans?

Oh good, Babble Meet at ruby's place

4:19 am

ruby, how do your commentators pronounce Vinokourov now?

4:19 am

now that we know that there aren't any dangerous creatures (except maybe DH)

4:20 am

correctly, I think, they are very careful about foreign names. And he has learned to speak French , charmingly, during his suspension

4:21 am

ours used to say Vino-kourov and now say Vi-nok-ourov all very quickly. it's rather odd

4:22 am

one of the commentators, an ex-rider I think, does a great job with that. And the whole thing is like a long French lesson for me

4:23 am

I always improve a little by the end of the Tour

4:24 am

the other main commentators is very sick with cancer, but he is still participating although in a very annoying, crinkly voice. I feel sorry for him, but he never keeps quiet and is VERY opinionated, disagrees with everybody else

4:24 am

lol opinionated commentators are the best

4:24 am

how much is covered in England? And is it live?

4:25 am

it is certainly more interesting than if they agreed.

4:25 am

pretty much everthing, live

4:25 am

it's even shown on 2 different channels!

4:25 am

lunch prep now

4:26 am

Bye ruby.

4:26 am

*poof*

4:26 am

many more English and Australian riders than Italians, now

4:26 am

bye Haz and Ata and lurkers who are probably out on snake hunts

4:27 am

bye ruby!

4:27 am

I feel a bit like Basil Fawlty - 'don't mention the war!'

4:27 am

what did mr haz suggest the broken legged hamster lady do?

lol haz.

4:28 am

He suggested that he DIDN'T ring his friend to let him know (it's 2 in the morning, be reasonable) and (b) that he make an appointment to have it seen in the morning surgery.

4:29 am

wonder if they will. It seems that a lot of random calls in the night never actually make appts

4:30 am

They hadn't rung up by 8.45 when the phone line was switched back to the surgery. Probably having a lie in....

4:30 am

traumatic events, you know.

Disturbed night, obviously.

4:30 am

I know. Trauma and an unsympathetic vet, you need time to recover from that.

4:31 am

You just know that that lady had been watching the hamster for at least 6 hours before she finally convinced herself that the leg was broken and that she made the urgent call

4:31 am

absolutely!

4:32 am

There's what we call the Sunday Afternoon Syndrome as well. People are too busy through the week to notice that Rover has a limp or isn't eating. Sunday afternoon they have time to see. Oh, we'd better ring the vet...

4:35 am

dont you just love people!

4:35 am

You do have 'out-of-hours' rates though or isn't that done in country type practices?

4:36 am

Yes, the out of hours prices are more expensive. It's funny, when you quote them, suddenly Rover isn't quite so ill after all.

4:36 am

there's a surprise!

4:36 am

Or else, you 'll get people saying that money doesn't matter, usually if they've no intention of paying anyway.

4:38 am

If it's a genuine emergency - i.e. life-saving, then people are happy to pay the necessary, but to be honest, the number of times that things are genuine emergencies is very small. Often, it's more a case of reassuring the owner.

4:39 am

and that's where pet insurance comes in so wonderful

4:41 am

What makes me grit my teeth is when people spend so much on their breed that they don't get vaccinations done and then expect cut-price treatment because they are on benefits.

4:42 am

that's just wrong! if you can spend £600 on a pit bull, you can get jabs

4:42 am

I know, it's just skewed thinking. Having the NHS makes people think that all services should be free. They end up taking dogs to PDSA in Belfast.

4:43 am

How much is your pet Insurance Ata just for interest sake - I pay $40 per month for Stew

4:43 am

it's *thinks* about £8 per month for Silverclaw and £15 a month for Hobbit

4:44 am

similar

4:45 am

yep, and it's worked about about even overall so far, I think. Sily has her special eye exams every year that they pay for, and HObbit's had various bits and bobs over the years

4:46 am

I haven't had a claim yet (tough wood) - but if like my last dog all the costs come later in life

4:46 am

tough? touch

4:47 am

it's worth every penny for peace of mind, if nothing else!

4:47 am

Lynxx, does this pet insurance cover any visit to the vet or is it just accidents?

4:48 am

my mother's vet practic has a wonderful scheme - they have their own pet insurance, more expensive, but it factors in price of annual jabs, worming and flea meds for the year. wonderful way of spreading all the costs

4:48 am

accidents and illness - so yearly shots not covered nr teeth cleaning etc

4:48 am

We've had at least one case of people ticking the 'send cheque to owner' box - treatment was done, cheque was sent to owner, owner did not pass it on to the practice...

4:48 am

That is a great idea Ata

4:49 am

So, we now make sure that the cheque comes from the insurance company to the practice.

4:49 am

absolutely, Haz!!

4:49 am

sounds wise

4:49 am

I think it's a great idea, Lyn. It's guaranteed income for the vets year round, and great for the pet owners too

4:50 am

It's easier than the small claims court route.

4:50 am

but as an example Sandy - I would have saved about $12,000 I spent over 3/4 years on our last small dog in the last few years of his life

4:50 am

Must take a break for a degree of tidying up...

4:50 am

bye dear!! bye glitteratinella!

4:51 am

me too - another load of washing to be done

4:51 am

I am an absolute fan of pet insurance

4:51 am

wow , that is huge lynxx Our dogs have only been to the vets for jabs so far but they are 11 now

4:51 am

they are very hardy (jack russels)

4:52 am

I know I saved abotu £1000 last year when Hobbit swallowed an ice lolly stick!!

4:53 am

I want to take one to get it checked as it has been hunting bandicoots in the paddock next door -when we take our eyes off her she sneaks off- and she has allergic eyes from burrowing and running in the grass

4:53 am

we heartily discourage the hunting and keep a strict eye on her but sometimes ......

4:54 am

rabbits are there too

4:55 am

can never keep a dg from rabbits!

4:56 am

the first time she saw a rabbit she caught it and killed it in a fraction of a second- they are true to their heritage and the instinct is so strong

4:57 am

they get rats and mice which is good

4:57 am

wish mine would. she likes toying with them

4:58 am

I have to yell at her to kill the poor things

5:00 am

but she's very good at rabbiting and mole-ing

5:00 am

I have 4 left - all four letter words

5:01 am

we dont have moles here

5:01 am

I have 44 words left cos I keep forgetting about the grid lol

5:01 am

I love moles, they are so soft adn velvety

5:01 am

I know that feeling

5:02 am

When I think of moles , I think of Wind in the Willows

5:02 am

yes! they are destructive little things, but so cute

We have badgers here. They are lovely to watch, but /very/ destructive.

5:03 am

good morning. None of my cats have every been willing to eat moles. They must taste bad. They eat the mice and chipmunks, but leave the moles dead but untouched.

5:03 am

yes .... they are. we used to have a badger sett in our back garden, was wonderful to watch the babies

5:03 am

interesting, Eva!

5:03 am

how are you and Merrrrrrrrrrrp?

5:04 am

We are doing much better now that the heat wave has broken-at least for the moment. Merp was spending his days hiding in the dark under the bed with the fan blowing on him.

5:04 am

Have you had that awful heat over there?

5:05 am

yes! utterly. Silverclaw has been doing the same

5:05 am

I remember once when a baby possum fell out of a tree and our border collie cradled it in its paws until i came out and saved it - she was protecting it from the jack russels

5:06 am

that's adorable

5:06 am

wow. Are border collies normally so gentle?

5:06 am

I thought so

that's lovely, sandy.

5:07 am

she was very gentle but did not like strange dogs around and we couldn't take her to the beach because she guarded our towels ferociously

5:07 am

towel guarder!

5:08 am

Reminds me of that little boy, I think in Germany, who fell into the moat around the gorilla compound in the zoo, and a female gorilla protected him from the silverback until rescuers came.

5:08 am

we tried going with no towels or shoes or anything but she started guarding a lady and her child in place of our things - so we banned her from the beach

I remember seeing that, Eva.

5:09 am

I saw that eva, that was fantastic

5:12 am

ever since I hurt my knee, the moment I sit down when out on a walk, Hobbit comes straight back from playing and *sits* on me, guarding me fiercely from anyone who comes near!

5:14 am

we don't have badgers in New England. Woodchucks, who can devastate a garden, and fisher cats, which are vicious and the main reason Merp isn't allowed out of the house. And the odd black bear, lots of coyotes, etc.

5:14 am

I'd love to see a fisher cat

5:15 am

we dont have fierce wildlife here , only snakes

5:15 am

The deer have been leaving my garden alone this summer. Granted Ive done all the protective things, but that doesn't usually stop them. I'm suspicious that they're just waiting for things to be riper. I've only seen a fisher cat with my own eyes once or twice. They are extremely fast and travel low to the ground.

5:17 am

I need a clue, it is the fifth pe4 can you believe - its my last one , i cant see it - please

5:17 am

my fifth is pe + not off

5:18 am

but that might be totally wrong for you!

Just change the last consonant from the word before.

Ata's is the 7th.

5:18 am

7th! goodness!

5:19 am

oh yes, it's now my 7th :)

:-)

Hint: I love cold sausages.

5:35 am

thought so, just checking :)

5:35 am

5:35 am

And if I took just one in passing, that wouldn't notice, would it?

These low-word grids are creepy.

5:37 am

Hi Ata!

Aims for Sussex. Coming your way FM!

Ludlow sausages are famous.

5:38 am

5:39 am

5:39 am

5:39 am

Hi Kaplan, as small grids go it is not too bad (ish).

5:39 am

Did you arrange a date for London?

I'm off now, thanks for chat everyone. **Gone**

5:41 am

5:41 am

Byee Sally

5:41 am

Oh good, hope you have a great time.

5:43 am

Hows yr Mum doing?

5:44 am

really well :D she's got to have 3 weeks of radiotherapy next month, but that's not a lot compared to what could have resulted!

5:44 am

Oh excellent news!!!

5:44 am

Such a relief.

5:44 am

yes :D:D:D

5:45 am

((()))

5:45 am

5:46 am

5:47 am

Greetings HAz, hows goes it?

5:47 am

haz! la glitterina!

5:47 am

Hello! It's warm but wet and a bit sticky so I'm glowing.

5:48 am

it's very very warm here

5:48 am

Spangle is flat out on the kitchen floor, it's the coolest place.

5:48 am

same here amd I have to go out shortly :(

5:48 am

HAve you both conquered the grid?

5:48 am

Yes, it's done and dusted.

5:49 am

me too.

5:49 am

It doesn't accept daughter no 2's name.

5:49 am

lol don't think I didn't try that too.

5:51 am

ugh ugh Mandelson looking slimy on Sky News

5:51 am

He can't help it, it's just the way he is.

5:52 am

the poor man was humiliated. don't we feel sorry for him

5:52 am

You can de5/18 but you can't deslime.

5:52 am

I can't sleep at night for worrying about him. Poor soul.

5:53 am

lol

5:53 am

absolutely. me too.

5:53 am

Between him and Prescott, I toss and turn with worry for their future.

5:54 am

*feels vaguely nauseous*

5:54 am

Maybe they'll ask him to be guest host on HIGNFY just to make him feel a bit better.

5:55 am

You are probably right Haz, some of the poeple they have had as guest hosts make the mind boggle.

5:55 am

can you imagine! that would be suicide by Hislop

5:56 am

I like the guest host idea, it keeps things interesting. And yes, Prescott didn't seem to know any better, Mandelson would avoid it like the plague.

5:57 am

heh heh that would be something to see though. The Prescott one was interesting.

5:57 am

Hazel Blears would need an extra cushion or two.

5:57 am

have you heard the quite quite odd story about the cabbie who died after drinking rum?

5:57 am

No, do tell.

5:58 am

I've just been writing it in an email to friends so I can copy and paste :)

5:58 am

What a strange news story today. A taxi driver went to hospital feeling ill after drinking out of a bottle of rum he was given by a customer, he was sent home, and died a few hours later of a massive heart attack. The series of events that led to that though, are quite remarkable. Someone - of course I can't now find the news story online to get the names and places - was smuggling back liquid cocaine into the UK disguised as bottles of rum. He asked 3 other passengers to take bottles through for him, and they did. At the UK airport, one of the passengers couldn't find the smuggler guy to give it back to (people are actually that stupid? huh) and gave it to one of the other helpful passengers. This lady then had 2 bottles of the "rum", and ended up somehow taking them home with her. She gave one of them to the cabbie who had taken her home, and a few days later he drunk some out of the bottle and promptly collapsed and died. Then! Some of his friends went round to his house and found the bottle of "rum" and drunk some after his death to toast the dearly departed. They didn't die, but were also severely ill!

5:58 am

.... waits for the story before ehading out for errands.

5:59 am

Good heavens!

5:59 am

Sounds like one of those stories from CSI - just about feasible but coincidences galore!

5:59 am

isn't that quite incredible. how unlikely!

6:00 am

I just thought that was quite quite odd

6:00 am

And silly, silly people for carrying the rum.

6:00 am

utterly!!

6:00 am

and on the strange note I must go as I have a lot to do today. Might see you later this afternoon. TTFN.

6:00 am

I mean, you're asked 'Have you been given anything to carry by a stranger?'

6:01 am

Toodle-oo, FM.

6:01 am

so now the original smuggler guy is being charged with causing the cabbie's death. good.

6:01 am

bye dear!

6:01 am

oh i read about that too funny story!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sus sex/8609969.stm

6:02 am

7:32 am

"those schoolgirl days..." that's what I think of

7:32 am

lolllll silly Annie and nancy boy

7:50 am

NB, How is your ankle?

7:51 am

I am waiting for a repairman to come fix my stove. My oven will not ignite.

7:51 am

It's quite painful at the moment - because at work I can't use crutches, I think, so it feels the impact of twelve hours of continuous pressure. I'm sure it'll get there, though - thanks for asking :)

7:52 am

oh Annie, that is a pain

7:52 am

that is rotten, Nancy Boy :(

7:52 am

NB, I guess you cannot afford to not work for a week or so to give your ankle res

7:52 am

*rest

7:53 am

Yeah, it's just not an option. Oh, to be rich!

7:54 am

It'll get better Sprite ;) as long as it's workable in time for my trip, I'm not gonna jinx it by complaining!

7:54 am

*sends healing vibes to Nancy Boy's ankle*

7:54 am

when are you leaving?

7:55 am

>>>>>>>more healing vibes going to NB>>>>>>>>

7:55 am

thank you, ladies! I'm sure with all the positive thoughts, it'll be just fine ;) my own clumsy fault anyway! and Annie...erk. In about a month's time!

7:56 am

You'll be fine.

7:57 am

Off I go, time to start my day. NB, take care. Everyone have a lovely day. {{Hugs}}

8:50 am

*whew* fumes are finally fading away...

8:52 am

what drives me nuts eva,are people who overdo it with perfume or cologne

8:54 am

i never used to be so sensitive to it, but lately i have been

8:59 am

9:10 am

River, how goes things with your son. Heard the operation was a success

9:10 am

an 6?

9:12 am

i have a neat little an 5/10= a picnic pest with a 2 letter latin ending

9:12 am

hi babblers

9:12 am

howdy jbv

9:13 am

crossy, thanks for your advice the other day, just want to report that I am now a certified Skyper - I can make and receive video calls and it is absolutely fantastic!

9:13 am

yaa for jbv!!

9:13 am

it is amazing indeed

9:14 am

you just have to get used to that 2 second delay

9:14 am

Bichon for the an6 - google Lipstick Tree.

9:15 am

and remember to keep a comb and lipstick near the computer :)

9:16 am

lol, JBV! quite.

9:16 am

that was weird, wrote that before seeing Fmitch's post

9:16 am

:) (not really here).

9:16 am

lol,i just keep a lens cleaning cloth nearbye to drape over the camera

9:16 am

(((FM)))

9:16 am

it was funny, NB, I got myself all ready, changed my clothes and everything for the big call, then they called me and it looked like they were wearing pajamas - no big deal!

9:17 am

lol! crossy sees jbv dressed to the 9,s for a skype call lol

9:18 am

and cleaned up the living room behind me!

9:18 am

remember jbv, skype is a come as you are thing

9:18 am

((crossy)). Back to lurking/working.

9:18 am

well, wear underwear, but anything else is optional;))

9:20 am

JBV in her ball gown and pearls...

9:20 am

quit teasing, it was my first time!

9:21 am

use my tip jbv, when i have to make a skype call, but am a tad grungy,i have a picture of a model i cut out of a mens clothing magazine and i just place that in front of the camera, maybe you can keep a page cut from a victoria secret magazine handy

9:22 am

not victoria's secret - this is a PG-rated family call - but thanks for the suggestion

9:22 am

or from a sears catalogue

9:22 am

its okay jbv... the boys don't know how special the "first time" is for us girls.

9:23 am

LOL, jmb - very true

9:24 am

sigh..been married 17 years and crossy still does not understand women..all i know is that it has something to do with chocolate...

9:24 am

I googled lipstick tree and got annato. But that doesn't work

9:24 am

EVERYTHING to do with chocolate crossy!

9:24 am

just have to play with the t,s a bit

9:25 am

drop an n bichon.

9:25 am

Hello Babblers. I am back from the Adirondack Mtns.

9:25 am

scrabbs!!\

9:25 am

ty crossy

9:25 am

hi scrabbs! hope you got some cool weather

9:25 am

hi, Scrabbs! Did you enjoy yourself there?

9:25 am

I missed all of you!

9:26 am

Welcome back Scrabs. We kayaked on Flagstaff Lake in Maine

9:26 am

got interrrupted at work - back now - still not smoking NB and yes surgery was a success this time. Will know for sure in 3 months but all looks good.

9:26 am

We had a wonderful 6 days, even with a 7 hr hike up + down a mtn in the rain.

9:26 am

Yay for RD's son!

9:26 am

oi vey. just got off the phone with my mother. if i wasnt already tired, i sure am now!

9:26 am

Bichon, kayaking is so relaxing.

9:26 am

woo hoo River... I have crossed everything that can be crossed at work!

9:27 am

yaa for riverdance on both counts!! you get a big ole crossy bear hug!! (((((riverdance)))))

9:27 am

Oops, must go see a patient. BBS.

9:27 am

I love kayaking and I am a slug

9:27 am

Flagstaff Lake has the National Wilderness Canoeing trail down the middle of it

9:27 am

Crossy, my kayaking buddy wants to head up to Ottawa for kayaking someday.

9:28 am

I'm not crazy about canoeing - too tippy but love kayaking

9:28 am

tell him to come to my area, have miles and miles of river he can explore

9:28 am

or we can just toss him into algonquin park

9:29 am

oh, well done, River! Especially in light of your recent stresses - soon as everything kicked off here, cigarettes were my first port of call!

9:29 am

I came close but won the fight

9:30 am

lol nb,every new picture you post is one of you eating, but you look thinner every time

9:30 am

kudos river

9:31 am

lol Crossy, somewhere up in an attic there is a picture of me getting fatter and fatter ;)

9:32 am

enjoy that metabolism while you have it NB

9:32 am

quittting the smokes has more incentive when you are older nb,like when you sweat when you comb your hair or have to take 2 rest beaks to catch your breath on the way to the fridge lol

9:33 am

right around 30 ish that metabolism starts to vanish lol

9:33 am

well I kind of screwed up my metabolism when I when I was younger, River, so now that it's back to normal it's nice to be able to eat a normal amount again.

9:33 am

and when you hit 50 - GONE

9:34 am

lol after 40,it is all about gravity lol

9:34 am

<<< doesnt like gravity

9:35 am

gravity sucks

9:35 am

it used to be, whatever I ate, my body would cling to it desperately! so it was a vicious circle.

9:35 am

*trying to remember metabolism*

9:36 am

sigh...found a pic of me at 31..was buff,162 pounds all muscle and look at those abs could wash clothes on that 6 pack lol

9:37 am

now iim not a 6 pack...im a keg lol

9:38 am

all the more to love crossy

9:39 am

i remember it well, was doing my exercises, doing those crunches and feeling the burn, when all of a suddeen,i feel a bunch if dull cracking in my neck and lose all feeling in my arms..;( and that was it for muscled crossy;(

9:40 am

ty rive ;))

9:40 am

river*

9:41 am

that must have been scary crossy

9:41 am

3 herinated neck discs

9:41 am

ouch, Crossy!

9:42 am

did you have surgery

9:42 am

indeed;/

9:42 am

through the front or back

9:43 am

no,i toughed it out, took piles of pain med and waited for it to atrophy a bit,i still know it is there, but as long as i respect it,ill be ok,,surgery has way too many risks for my liking

9:43 am

seen to many walk in and too many come out using 2 canes with ther feet all twisted to the left

9:44 am

i will not risk surgery till i am crawling on all fours first

9:44 am

just be careful and know your limitations - a good hard sneeze could set it off

9:45 am

dont i know it river!! sometimes i hold my head the wrong way and get this searing pain

9:45 am

Back--I saw an adorable girl for her kindergarten check-up.

9:45 am

or it will crack on its own..ouch

9:45 am

aww;)

9:46 am

that is such a cute age

9:46 am

Next = already screaming toddler.

9:46 am

good lord, talk about system shock scrabbs

9:46 am

I love kids between 3-7, if they are well-behaved. Many are not.

9:47 am

i love all kids..as long as they are not mine:)

9:47 am

Ditto, Crossy!

9:48 am

There is only one kid I ever look forward to seeing, and that is my youngest cousin. He won't remember me, but he is the cutest!

9:48 am

lol scrabbs, keep a big jumbo needle with a bore like a garden hose handy and say"if you are good ,i can use the small ones, otherwise i have to use this big one"

9:49 am

get one off a vet lol

9:50 am

something that can hold a quart or 2 lol

9:51 am

hi! yeah, i've decided i really like the age of almost three to about three and a half. so good to cuddle at this age!

9:51 am

for us and our boy,it was till about two..right around the time he started thinking for himself basically lol

9:51 am

i was looking at pictures of daniel at this age, thinking how much i enjoyed it. not as needy as babies, not (quite) as defiant as older kids

9:51 am

and then they turn 4 and all he** breaks lose. Age 4 was the worse for me. Turning 5 was a miracle.

9:52 am

then they turn 12...

9:52 am

omfg

9:52 am

just a new type of hell is all

9:52 am

Somehow Crossy, I can't imagine you were the most angelic of children yourself :P

9:52 am

lol! can't stay, pizza's reheated. will bbl!

9:52 am

17 year old girl is a new type of hell

9:53 am

I don't think my 3 and q/2 y.o. g'daughter behaves any better than when she was 2

9:53 am

though once the boys are 16 it is not too bad, they sleep till 2 in the afternoon then go out,so you only have to deal with it for a few hours

9:53 am

lol crossy

9:53 am

**FIREWORKS**

9:53 am

i thought the girls started being hell at 12 river

9:54 am

right you are crossy

9:54 am

yaa for riverdance!!

9:54 am

ah, blessedly small grid today after yesterday's monster..or is this a mini monster?

9:54 am

But I like grandchildren the best. when they're acting up, it's the parents problem

9:54 am

when I look back now, what I though was hell was not - this is real - lol

9:54 am

oh this is evil Krista

9:55 am

now i cannot wait till i get a brandbabby...pump them full of sugar and send them home to mom and dad:)))))

9:55 am

A 12 y.o. girl is impossible. Mine wanted me to drive her and her friends to the mall but told me not to let anyone see me with them

9:55 am

grandbabby*

9:55 am

uh oh, thanks for the warning

9:55 am

I only made it through with morewords

9:55 am

i have heard horror stories bout 12-14 year old girls

9:56 am

lol Crossy!

9:56 am

lots of babblets and strange words

9:56 am

Is your son home from the hospital River?

9:56 am

yes, he came home on Saturday

9:56 am

Wow! quick. Lucky you

9:57 am

my brother is having a time with his 13 year old girl,to make it worse she is cute enough to have the boys jumping through flaming hoops...my brother keeps a baseball bat near the door lol

9:57 am

he got out of surgery at 4 or so. Had to lay flat for 6 hours. Was sitting up eating supper at 10 and walking the nurses station at midnight. He was discharged Sat am at 10. Had to wait for husband to come and get us.

9:58 am

i am so glad the surgery went well riverdance;))

9:59 am

thanks crossy and bichon - it is a huge relief

9:59 am

I wanted to say something last night, but the chog was chugging away..read your profile, River...not being on here for a while, I didn't know any of your son's story, so I was very glad to see the happy outcome

9:59 am

thanks Krista - it has been a very stressful month

10:01 am

diving into da grid with lickety...sploosh!

10:01 am

I need to get to work now - anyone need any clues before I run

10:02 am

i'm sure it was, to say the least

10:02 am

10:07 am

River went back to work, cbr...I just started so have no clues for you, sorry

10:08 am

clue #1 mrp..open up the list as soon as possible lol

10:08 am

We were playing with that on FB, Christa...I seem to be Stephen King, lol

10:08 am

I'm down to under 10 and just randomly guessing now!

10:08 am

oh! is this a nasty one? 77 isn't a good number

10:08 am

I only have one ti7...think kettle drums, but change the last letter

10:09 am

my son was dan brown.. i was d. thomas... never heard of him... lol

10:09 am

yes, Mr P..I'm slowing down considerably after only 20 words

10:09 am

well, this is a bugger of a grid!

10:09 am

Hmm, nor have I, Christa!

10:10 am

oh..dylan thomas maybe?

10:11 am

am watching WifeSwap USA... I can never doubt myself as a mum/wife again!

10:11 am

ty for the ti nb

10:12 am

and it gave me the second ti as well;)))

10:12 am

husband swap seems to be more low key.. go with the flow

10:12 am

oh, must announce something!!

10:12 am

Yes! That program is great for building one's self-esteem! Don't know how they find those crazies.

10:12 am

you're welcome, Crossy - didn't think anyone saw :)

10:13 am

**drum roll for Mr P**

10:13 am

krista do you ever watch housewives of ?

10:13 am

Thanks, NB! Those were making me crazy!

hello all, and waits for Mr P's announcement.

10:14 am

Oh yes, Christa. We all love train wrecks, lol.

10:14 am

you're welcome :) don't have the other though, I'm sorry to say

10:14 am

must be a biggie....

10:14 am

oh wait...I do now.

10:14 am

Lickety and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary yesterday, and our 'meeting' anniversary today!!... 14 & 15 years respectively. And Lickety got me a car!! and a beautiful pearl necklace!! I am blessed to have the love and honour I have :))

my announcement is that I think this grid is icky.

10:14 am

yaaa for mrp!!!!!

Very nice MrP!

10:15 am

Hi Red...and thanks from me, too, NB..waiting for the one you just found, now :)

10:15 am

same again, but another different letter on the end! should have thought to try it earlier..

10:15 am

hey, congratulations, MrP!

10:15 am

this oct1st and nov 1st are our 17th and 19th respectivly;)

10:16 am

10:17 am

Thanks guys! It is wonderful to have the family I have

10:17 am

oh, good, thanks again NB

10:17 am

If you are on my facebook, you can see the joy! So happy!

10:18 am

No problem...it's rare that I get to clue, and even rarer that I give a clue that's actually understandable.

10:18 am

don't do facebook.. maybe I should

10:18 am

I was going to ask you if you have pix there, good-o...how are you, Red?

10:18 am

on our tenth,we were so broke...i got a 8 dollar bottle of wine, our old crystal champagne glasses from our honeymoon and packed up a bunch of fingerfood and had a picnic in the mtns..

10:18 am

I have enjoyed facebook, cause I get to catch up with friends that have been dear to me.

10:19 am

oh crossy! that is so romantic!!

10:19 am

That sounds lovely, though, Crossy

10:19 am

is your facebook under mrp

10:20 am

I hear you, NB. I usuallly confuse the heck out of people when I clue. Or any other time, for that matter...

10:21 am

Lickety got me the most amazing gifts, and all I did was set up a champagne & cheeseboard evening, a romantic anniversary card & 'game' night

10:21 am

It seems I confuse people just by talking, these days ;) I am frantically re-learning Korean, and a little of the accent is starting to seep into my everyday speech, apparently...

10:21 am

my facebook is under the last name Matula

10:21 am

stayed up there with a nice fuzzy blanket and watched the sun set into the bay in firy reds and oranges and laid there till the stars came out and talked of silly and unimportant things till it was time to go back hone

10:22 am

not to worry mrp,the thought is everything

10:22 am

I love silly and unimportant things! perfect!! good on you crossy!

10:22 am

ty

10:23 am

Is that a difficult language to learn? I'm learning Japanese now. Wonder if it's similar.

10:24 am

Well, I spent the first years of my life speaking it, and all the other years hearing my parents speak it, so I have a little advantage ;) I would guess Japanese would be very hard, though, especially if you aren't used to thinking about words that way - pictures rather than structures.

10:27 am

i learned all my japanese from James Clavell lol

10:27 am

Well, that IS a slight edge you have, there, lol. I'm loving Japanese because it's so different from anything else. I'm kind of bafflled at how to know when to combine the three writing systems, but I'm concentrating on speaking more than writing.

10:28 am

LOL, Crossy. Got to go...taking the kids swimming. Enjoy this evil grid, all.

10:28 am

well, good luck with learning!

10:28 am

konichiwa krista sama lol

10:29 am

'sama' is perhaps uncomfortably polite, Crossy ;)

10:29 am

oops

10:29 am

Arigato, NB, and sayonara Crossy San :)

10:29 am

forgot

10:30 am

all the gys do is grunt domo lol

10:30 am

10:30 am

LOL!

10:32 am

right, I tried to watch some old Japanese Samurai movies to get the flow of the language..big mistake..you're dead on, Crossy...grunt grunt

10:32 am

i was so impressed with the book when i first read it,that i named my first bonsai tree 'tetsu-ko" cause it would have to be with me caring for it lol

10:33 am

found some great modern ones, though...watch Departures if you can....ha haa..i've killed a few bonsais in my time

10:34 am

out to the pool...have fun guys..poof

10:34 am

10:57 am

YAWN. so sleepy!

10:58 am

Wakey Wakey!!!! EvaN :)

10:58 am

10:59 am

Nothing too heavy or you will really want to snooze. Hi crossy.

11:01 am

sami had a busy weekend. got lotsa stuff done! but as usual when planning a big event, 2 steps forward, 1 step back... dear fiance had to give me a massage last night i was so tense!

11:02 am

crossy is very glad we had a small wedding..

11:02 am

Good old Fiance and all the planning will so be worth it come the day.

11:03 am

yes. just having trouble working out details with the band. *le sigh*

11:04 am

Urgh mine took about 10 months. I remember when the marquee guy came in the January and we were pacing out the size of the tent in the snow.

11:04 am

kim mitchell lives in our town, want me to see if he is free for that day? :))

11:05 am

guess what his first name really is....

11:06 am

Mitch?

11:06 am

stephen

11:06 am

i had to look him up...heh

11:07 am

according to wikipedia, it is joseph. unless i am looking at the wrong person...

11:07 am

wow. this is a terrible grid.

11:08 am

anywho, gonna go grab some grub. gotta eat lunch before i fall asleep on my desk...

11:08 am

i have seen his credit card..he gets fuel at my station;))

11:08 am

It has its low points hursy but a seasoned babbler such as yourself will weadle them out.

11:08 am

Bye EvaN

11:09 am

crossy, I loved that memory you posted yesterday of fishing with your Dad, lovely piece of writing.

11:10 am

tyvm fm;)) i am very lazy when it comes to punctuation and the like, but it just came into my mind at that moment as a full bit of memory

11:10 am

Would your Dad remember that memory if you read it to him?

11:10 am

my best bits are things that pop out and are never thought of beforehand;0

11:11 am

perhaps, but we are having a rough go atm

11:11 am

Sorry to hear that ((())).

11:12 am

Life is never straightforward is it.

11:14 am

no,it is not

11:15 am

don't mind it not being straight... just hate those bumps in the road...

11:16 am

but my wife is my anchor in the storms of life. we shall weather it together;)

11:17 am

Hi ruru!

11:17 am

good morning my dear FM

11:17 am

hello, FM, crossy, and ruru

11:17 am

and it is good to see you too :)

11:17 am

IS your father's health not good crossy?

11:19 am

howdy dc;) we have a few issues going atm ruru, but we are working on it

11:19 am

at least you have a relationship..that's better than I did

11:20 am

my father passed away last year after 50 years of smoking incessantly no lungs left..

11:20 am

dc!! lovely to see you as well. All I need now is monty for all my favourite male babblers to be on at once.

11:20 am

:) i've not seen monty in ages

11:21 am

I haven't seen monty in a long time

11:21 am

gm DC

11:21 am

How are you dc and how is Tom?

11:22 am

I'm alright, and he's okay. He's sleeping now, as he works tonight. We discussed the other day's earthquake just before he went off to bed.

11:22 am

earthquake?

11:23 am

all the way down to the caf, tottering in my heels, and the best i could dig up is a salad. oh well, i should eat a little healthier after all the cake i had this weekend. ;)

11:23 am

there was a 3.2 here the other day, very minor. enough to wake me up slightly, and most thought it was a truck or a low-flying airplane (i live near KIAD)

11:24 am

Oh my.

11:24 am

salad, cake, whatever, so long as you're happy, EvaNadine :)

11:24 am

dc, i was going to ask if you felt it. i did, but i thought the same thing -- and i am very close to the epicenter.

11:24 am

EvaN will be happier when she gets the band sorted for her nuptuals.

11:25 am

Hello again. Lunch break!

11:25 am

it woke me -- i thought it was a VERY large truck, decided it was nothing, and went back to sleep.

11:25 am

but it explained how the wine glasses toppled like dominos in the cabinet :)

11:25 am

hi, scrabbs

11:25 am

Hello Scrabs!

11:25 am

pretty much the same for me. though i did wonder to myself "is this what an earthquake feels like?" -- course, i never imagined it actually WAS one!

11:25 am

There was a 5.5 quake centered in Ottawa that we felt here (Buffalo) in June.

11:26 am

it was the 3rd i remember here in my lifetime, if the strongest..

11:26 am

i remember that, scrabbs.

11:26 am

Top T and I clues please--my only blank tiles.

11:26 am

re grid, halfway and stalling

11:27 am

I experienced a few low level ones when visiting Mexico.

11:27 am

twas a first for me!

11:27 am

kind weird, the earthquakes, when not used to them.

11:27 am

i have neither, Scrabbs

11:28 am

<---- survived the Loma Prieta earthquake

11:28 am

we also felt that 5.5 here scrabbs, very rare for us indeed

11:28 am

top t are both ti7

11:28 am

so did my cousin, ruru. scary, that was.

11:28 am

The ti7's sound like they should be found in the percussion section of an orchestra. Each ends in a diff vowel.

11:29 am

top i is im6/7

11:29 am

now THAT was a scary earthquake

11:29 am

my partner at work is from india..the second he felt it,he was out the door like a shot and im standing there going "huh?" lol

11:29 am

5.0 is just a martini shaker

11:29 am

ty for IMs

11:29 am

When was that, Ru? The Oct 89 one?

11:29 am

yes

11:29 am

lol crossy

11:29 am

yw

11:30 am

TY, FM. I got the 2 top t's

11:30 am

I was watching the World Series that night when the screen went fuzzy

11:30 am

yw Scrabs. Oh have you done that big walk yet?

11:31 am

that same day of the earthquake ,we also had 2 tornados.the only thing we were missing was the plague of locusts;/

11:31 am

ooh, got the Ts, too, thanks!

11:31 am

It's on Aug 7th and the practice hike we did a few days ago was HUMBLING! We are worried about the big mtn.

11:31 am

and flooding and a huricane

11:32 am

hey all

11:32 am

Still working on the im words

11:32 am

we went to see a show at Wolftrap during our last tropical storm. It was less violent than the usual thunderstorm here.

11:32 am

Keep training and I kn4 you will achieve.

11:32 am

11:32 am

11:32 am

11:32 am

hi Scrabbs, have not sseen you in a while \

11:32 am

What is Wolftrap?

11:32 am

Hi peri!

11:33 am

I was in the Adirondack Mtns from Tues til yesterday. It was a perfect vacation: great weather (except the 7 hrs we hiked--rain soaked us), kayaking, swimming + lots of laughing

11:33 am

just back from errands and had lunch at home

11:33 am

Wolftrap National Park for the Arts - one open-air theater with pavillion and laws seats, and The Barns, an indoor venue.

11:33 am

gna dn tonic with guacamole with ridged potato chips :)

11:33 am

http://www.wolftrap.org/

11:34 am

yummy, peri! :D

11:34 am

yikes another day of typos

11:34 am

managed to get gel in my cats ear this am!!

11:34 am

i'll be in the Adirondack region in October -- lovely area

11:34 am

the bottle of the gel is not even full, damn I padi $84.50 for it and expected it to be full

11:34 am

Mt Marcy, 5343 ft high, 7.4 mile trail one way, all in one day----we will just do the best we can, stay hydrated + fueled up, rest when we have too, and take it in baby sections

11:35 am

i got hair product on my cat once, so i gave him a mohawk

11:35 am

very nice, scrabbs!

11:35 am

haha dc, you know that the gel is medicine right?

11:35 am

Seain, the Adk Mtns = my favorite place to vacation. I could visit just there for the rest of my life and be happy.

11:35 am

ah, in that case, no i did not :)

11:35 am

LOL dc

11:36 am

brb

11:36 am

11:36 am

tiny clue for the im 6 please

11:37 am

Monkey found im6/24 = im + consonant + number before two

11:37 am

im7 = past tense

11:37 am

NBT + 37 to go.

11:38 am

oh, when minver's around, let her know that Dr God said that, yes, the tile stats will rotate with the grid, if one rotates in the new version

11:38 am

How will we be able to clue when people have rotated the grid differently?

11:38 am

I just do a headstand if I need to look at it differently.. that will help my neck Dr. G.. thanks

11:39 am

same grid, just different orientation

11:39 am

and there is a list built-in

11:39 am

lol ruru

11:40 am

afternoon everyone!

11:40 am

Any idea when Dr_G will be launching all of this?

11:40 am

11:44 am

need ap 6 please.

11:44 am

i like the orange one :)

11:44 am

sleep ap6

11:45 am

I was thinking with the ability to block someone's conversation that you are going along with the chat and they ask you a question and they don't know you have blocked them but they can see you are still talking...then they will know that they were blocked.

11:45 am

I thought of that too, Mom.

11:46 am

we run ito that when i block or kick people in gamespy mom

11:46 am

could foster a lot of ill will

11:47 am

was not aware of that in the new verions Mom and Scrabs

11:47 am

quite, Mom. I suggested disemvoweling. see thread here: http://tinyurl.com/3a95upg

11:47 am

people end up talking AT the people who blocked them, instead of talking To them, and it can be messy, especially if there are bad feelings

11:47 am

that is the 5. what is the six?

11:47 am

don't need any more bad feelings

11:47 am

yes Peri, in Facebook under Babble Community you can see all that Dr_God has posted

11:48 am

ok, will check later

11:48 am

ok Peri

11:48 am

ur right mkg :"> I don't have it yet

Seain, that would be amusing.

11:49 am

Hi Haz

11:50 am

Hello!

11:50 am

i'm a fan of disemvowelling :)

11:50 am

Hi mkg & Haz

11:50 am

here is more good info for those that do not do fb https://twitter.com/BabbleOverlord

11:50 am

I was reading back - not sure how the block chat thing will work - do you tell people?

11:50 am

hi scrabbler. well so many strange words. i hate that. lets have this in english.

11:50 am

dc i tried with another vowel. hhhhmmmmm

11:51 am

no Haz, you just block them on your computer. no one knowsa

11:51 am

british spelling ARE English :) insert vowel into middle

11:51 am

unless you tell them

11:51 am

are there two vowels alike next to each other dc?

11:51 am

what i mean is those k words arent english are they?

11:51 am

ho4.13 is apparently English ;)

11:51 am

ap plus the opposite of yes, continue as before.

11:51 am

no, mkg

11:52 am

got it. ty

11:53 am

ga 5?

11:54 am

also need po 6 please.

11:55 am

both k,s are common english

11:55 am

got po 6

11:55 am

the block thing is so you can click on a person's name (I'm guessing) and block their incessant requests for clues etc. You wouldn't see their posts, other people would

11:56 am

Hi Ata

11:56 am

Hi Ata. But if they ask us a question + we don't reply, they will suspect they are blocked.

11:56 am

quite, scrabbs, not to mention we'll see others chatting with them

11:56 am

they will indeed. tis a silly idea, I think. more hassle than it's worth

11:57 am

no GA6

11:57 am

Maybe it will be better to lurk, which I do under some circumstances.

11:57 am

Back shortly.

11:57 am

I doubt that everyone will block the same people. Personally I won't bother the to block them, I will just continue on with how I do it now

11:58 am

ga 5 i mean. sorry.

11:58 am

people will block different people and it will get very confusing!

11:58 am

i sometimes lurk too under certain circumstances. I'm also saddened that i seem to have caused someone else in the game to do that when i'm around. :(

11:58 am

i am going to love the clickable tiles

11:58 am

ga5 -- sort of like good wizard in Lord of the Rings

11:58 am

dont know it.

11:58 am

yes, Mom, i'm expecting i'll do the same.

11:59 am

i'm not a fan of the clickable, but i don't need to use them, either, and the option is nice for those that want, and makes the grid more playable in iPhone/iPad

11:59 am

ga5.20

12:00 pm

indeed, and for those with fat fingers like moi;)

12:00 pm

Seain, I can't believe that you could have offended someone

12:00 pm

and since my monitor is touch screen,it will be a bit of fun

12:01 pm

cool Crossy, didn't know they had such a thinh

12:01 pm

thing*

12:01 pm

although since babble came along I have finger prints all over my monitor

12:01 pm

an 6/18 please

12:01 pm

in that case, yes, crossy, it will be fun.

12:01 pm

indeed mom,it is quite fun

12:02 pm

well, Mom, i know someone took offense to an opinion i hold, and has been scarce in my presence, and has politely ignored me since.

12:02 pm

it is a 19 inch wide screen from msi

12:02 pm

an6 - red colouring

12:02 pm

nice, crossy

12:03 pm

an6 -- yellow-to-red colouring, depending how much is used, often used to make yellow cheese

12:03 pm

lol,i rubbed T.O,s fur the wrong way the other day i am afraid and she has been in lurk mode when i am on i suspect

12:04 pm

oh Seain, that is such a shame. Lots of people have different opinions on things but that doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong. That is why they are opinions.

12:04 pm

not you Crossy! Rub someone the wrong way?

12:04 pm

she'll get over it hopefully, she usually does :)

12:04 pm

agreed, Mom.

12:05 pm

lol, sometimes my wit reverts to that of my forebearers and can irk some

12:05 pm

In your case Crossy, I don't believe you would say something hurtful to anyone on purpose

12:05 pm

for instance ,i love monty python dry britt humour and the wife looks at me like i have lost my mind

12:06 pm

Monthy Python is wonderful

12:07 pm

lol,im laughing like a loon at the shows and the wife thinks my brain has slipped off of its tiny shelf lol

12:07 pm

Hiya, Kids. Eeesh. This one was so evil, I had to finish it before being distracted by chat.

12:07 pm

howdy judi

12:07 pm

Hi Judi. I would rather chat than fight this bugger

12:07 pm

i am 35 words in and stalled

12:08 pm

33 here Crossy

12:08 pm

Yeah. 35 seemed to be the wall. I hit Lickety's at about that time.

12:09 pm

Who doesn't love Monty Python?

12:09 pm

Freebie clue = the ok5 is an African mammal closely related to the giraffe. Monty Python is brilliant!

12:10 pm

i am sure she is burning little dolls with my likeness, but i wished her well before she left ,so there is hope

12:10 pm

12:11 pm

12:11 pm

Hiya, dc.

12:12 pm

12:12 pm

Nothing wrong with a little protein EvaN :)

12:12 pm

12:12 pm

happens sometimes, and is protein

12:12 pm

eat around the bug

12:12 pm

in the almost-10 years i have worked here, this is the 3rd time i have found a bug in my salad. :/

12:12 pm

little, brown, squished.

12:12 pm

Sounds like a free salad for you.

12:12 pm

that's not a bad record for bugs, EvaN

12:13 pm

gd evening everybody

12:13 pm

i guess i should probably walk it back to the caf to show them... :/

12:13 pm

12:13 pm

hello everybody

12:13 pm

12:13 pm

hi, ruby and jacq

12:14 pm

Evening jacq.

12:14 pm

hello seain, nadine Judi and ruby

12:14 pm

i squicked someone on my bus in HS by watching the worm on my finger, which came out of my apple that i contued eating

12:14 pm

HI Ruby and Jacq

12:14 pm

oh and ruby too, didn't see you there.

12:14 pm

heya FM, sorry didn't see you

12:14 pm

what is worse is to feel little legs tickling the inside of your cheek just as you swallow

12:14 pm

i let the worm loose in the trees at edge of schoolyard

12:14 pm

ewww crossy

12:14 pm

one of the times that i found a bug in my salad here (it was a tick), the next day i got a crabcake from somewhere else, was halfway through it, and a dead fly fell out. ick.

12:14 pm

the last time i ate fast food it was a salad from pizza hut and the very last forkful of salad had half a bug in it

12:15 pm

I should scoot off here and do the ironing. I have enjoyed the conversation and the company even more. {{Hugs}} to all of you

12:16 pm

i like the send private mssg and report feature in the new build

12:16 pm

What kind of bug is it, Eva? (And by that I don't mean flavour).

12:16 pm

that would be handy for trolls

12:17 pm

an remember,bugs are pure protein:))

12:17 pm

little, brown, squished.

12:17 pm

rain, rain? Where are you again jacq?

12:17 pm

great bug stories! was it Lucille Ball, who is her salad days, used to carry a big and put it in her soup so that she wouldn't have to pay for her dinner

12:17 pm

but not all bugs are good to eat :o)

12:18 pm

can anyone help please with an6

12:18 pm

1:23 pm

oh, jeebus. do people really not know wedding invitation etiquette? as in, the people the invitation was addressed to are the ones invited? as in, im glad youre still on friendly terms with your ex-gf, but i invited you, not her, so you shouldnt be RSVPing for both of you...

lol eva!

1:24 pm

lol@ people bringing their exes omg

1:25 pm

my coworker is pretty much still dating his ex, even though they "broke up" the invitation was addressed only to him, but he responded for both of them. now i have to tell him shes not invited... :/

1:25 pm

oh,you invited them seperatly..

1:25 pm

not too late to elope...

1:26 pm

no, i didnt invite her at all.

1:27 pm

the he should not be adding her lol,if he insists, thell him to tell her to pack a lunch as you worked out the plates with the caterer and there are no extras lol

1:28 pm

yeah, im sure he will be fine with it, hes just a little... naive to proper etiquette.

1:28 pm

plus, our other coworker is getting married a month + a half before me, and i have a feeling they invited her, as the 2 gals a friends.

1:28 pm

"we're nearly at the capacity of the hall, so we're trying only to invite those we really want here"

Interestingly, my wife and i moved to Utah in 2002. The two weddings we have been invited to, the invite said Mr. and Mrs. Twentynine Palms. We went to both, and both times were pretty much berated by the bride and groom and familes for not bringing our two boys with us. "We didn't know they were invited." we said. "Oh, it's just assumed the whole family is invited." they said. Huh? They said it was a Utah thing. very odd!

1:30 pm

odd indeed

1:30 pm

evening all

1:31 pm

howdy katie

1:32 pm

not so here 29,as most of the high end weddings each plate can be upwards and over 100 dollars each

1:32 pm

I had that but hid behind the room capacity and the "I didn't know you were dating" line

1:32 pm

Yes crossy we were at £65 per person and just didn't want to pay it for someone we had never met, but did say he could come to the evening do

1:33 pm

ouch kaite,thats expensive indeed

1:33 pm

it did include wine with the meal and champagne to toast, but yes it was expensive!

1:34 pm

The evening buffet was £15 per plate and you had to order for 80% of what the room was laid out for, even though most people had just finished a massive (and expensive) meal

1:35 pm

ill say it again,i am glad we had a small wedding

yeah small wedding here: Little White Chapel drive-thru in Vegas. Woohoo!

1:36 pm

well,not that small! lol

haha

1:37 pm

lol

1:38 pm

we had her parents and my brother and sister and 3 or 4 friends then we ate lobster and crab legs till we couldnt move ;0

1:39 pm

im just kinda floored that an adult would add another adult. i can *almost* understand bringing kids (though i never would unless they were specifically invited) but to just RSVP for someone who wasnt invited when the invitation was addressed to you and you alone, thats a bit surprising to me...

1:39 pm

they gave us a huge basket full of fine cheeses and crackers and jams,4 bottles of champers and we were off;0

1:40 pm

not good form at all eva

1:40 pm

some people are incredibly thoughtless EvaN. Probably never been married and have no concept of the organisationrequired and costs of a wedding

1:41 pm

an incredibly belated thanks to seain for the an6/18..I was having website issues and then had to skidaddle.

1:44 pm

*le sigh* hes such a nice guy. hes just clueless sometimes...

1:46 pm

1:46 pm

....poink

1:56 pm

Fireworks :-)

1:56 pm

yay katie!

1:59 pm

MANNA, n. A food miraculously given to the Israelites in the wilderness. When it was no longer supplied to them they settled down and tilled the soil, fertilizing it, as a rule, with the bodies of the original occupants. MANICHEISM, n. The ancient Persian doctrine of an incessant warfare between Good and Evil. When Good gave up the fight the Persians joined the victorious Opposition. MANES, n. The immortal parts of dead Greeks and Romans. They were in a state of dull discomfort until the bodies from which they had exhaled were buried and burned; and they seem not to have been particularly happy afterward. MAN, n. An animal so lost in rapturous contemplation of what he thinks he is as to overlook what he indubitably ought to be. His chief occupation is extermination of other animals and his own species, which, however, multiplies with such insistent rapidity as to infest the whole habitable earth and Canada. When the world was young and Man was new, And everything was pleasant, Distinctions Nature never drew 'Mongst kings and priest and peasant. We're not that way at present, Save here in this Republic, where We have that old regime, For all are kings, however bare Their backs, howe'er extreme Their hunger. And, indeed, each has a voice To accept the tyrant of his party's choice. A citizen who would not vote, And, therefore, was detested, Was one day with a tarry coat (With feathers backed and breasted) By patriots invested. "It is your duty," cried the crowd, "Your ballot true to cast For the man o' your choice." He humbly bowed, And explained his wicked past: "That's what I very gladly would have done, Dear patriots, but he has never run." —Apperton Duke MAMMON, n. The god of the world's leading religion. The chief temple is in the holy city of New York. He swore that all other religions were gammon, And wore out his knees in the worship of Mammon. —Jared Oopf MAMMALIA, n.pl. A family of vertebrate animals whose females in a state of nature suckle their young, but when civilized and enlightened put them out to nurse, or use the bottle. MALTHUSIAN, adj. Pertaining to Malthus and his doctrines. Malthus believed in artificially limiting population, but found that it could not be done by talking. One of the most practical exponents of the Malthusian idea was Herod of Judea, though all the famous soldiers have been of the same way of thinking. MALEFACTOR, n. The chief factor in the progress of the human race. MALE, n. A member of the unconsidered, or negligible sex. The male of the human race is commonly known (to the female) as Mere Man. The genus has two varieties: good providers and bad providers. MAJESTY, n. The state and title of a king. Regarded with a just contempt by the Most Eminent Grand Masters, Grand Chancellors, Great Incohonees and Imperial Potentates of the ancient and honorable orders of republican America. MAIDEN, n. A young person of the unfair sex addicted to clewless conduct and views that madden to crime. The genus has a wide geographical distribution, being found wherever sought and deplored wherever found. The maiden is not altogether unpleasing to the eye, nor (without her piano and her views) insupportable to the ear, though in respect to comeliness distinctly inferior to the rainbow, and, with regard to the part of her that is audible, bleating out of the field by the canary — which, also, is more portable. A lovelorn maiden she sat and sang — This quaint, sweet song sang she; "It's O for a youth with a football bang And a muscle fair to see! The Captain he Of a team to be! On the gridiron he shall shine, A monarch by right divine, And never to roast on it — me!" —Opoline Jones MAGPIE, n. A bird whose thievish disposition suggested to someone that it might be taught to talk. MAGNITUDE, n. Size. Magnitude being purely relative, nothing is large and nothing small. If everything in the universe were increased in bulk one thousand diameters nothing would be any larger than it was before, but if one thing remain unchanged all the others would be larger than they had been. To an understanding familiar with the relativity of magnitude and distance the spaces and masses of the astronomer would be no more impressive than those of the microscopist. For anything we know to the contrary, the visible universe may be a small part of an atom, with its component ions, floating in the life-fluid (luminiferous ether) of some animal. Possibly the wee creatures peopling the corpuscles of our own blood are overcome with the proper emotion when contemplating the unthinkable distance from one of these to another. MAGNIFICENT, adj. Having a grandeur or splendor superior to that to which the spectator is accustomed, as the ears of an ass, to a rabbit, or the glory of a glowworm, to a maggot. MAGNET, n. Something acted upon by magnetism. MAGNETISM, n. Something acting upon a magnet. The two definitions immediately foregoing are condensed from the works of one thousand eminent scientists, who have illuminated the subject with a great white light, to the inexpressible advancement of human knowledge. MAGIC, n. An art of converting superstition into coin. There are other arts serving the same high purpose, but the discreet lexicographer does not name them. MAGDALENE, n. An inhabitant of Magdala. Popularly, a woman found out. This definition of the word has the authority of ignorance, Mary of Magdala being another person than the penitent woman mentioned by St. Luke. It has also the official sanction of the governments of Great Britain and the United States. In England the word is pronounced Maudlin, whence maudlin, adjective, unpleasantly sentimental. With their Maudlin for Magdalene, and their Bedlam for Bethlehem, the English may justly boast themselves the greatest of revisers. MAD, adj. Affected with a high degree of intellectual independence; not conforming to standards of thought, speech and action derived by the conformants from study of themselves; at odds with the majority; in short, unusual. It is noteworthy that persons are pronounced mad by officials destitute of evidence that themselves are sane. For illustration, this present (and illustrious) lexicographer is no firmer in the faith of his own sanity than is any inmate of any madhouse in the land; yet for aught he knows to the contrary, instead of the lofty occupation that seems to him to be engaging his powers he may really be beating his hands against the window bars of an asylum and declaring himself Noah Webster, to the innocent delight of many thoughtless spectators. MACROBIAN, n. One forgotten of the gods and living to a great age. History is abundantly supplied with examples, from Methuselah to Old Parr, but some notable instances of longevity are less well known. A Calabrian peasant named Coloni, born in 1753, lived so long that he had what he considered a glimpse of the dawn of universal peace. Scanavius relates that he knew an archbishop who was so old that he could remember a time when he did not deserve hanging. In 1566 a linen draper of Bristol, England, declared that he had lived five hundred years, and that in all that time he had never told a lie. There are instances of longevity (macrobiosis) in our own country. Senator Chauncey Depew is old enough to know better. The editor of The American, a newspaper in New York City, has a memory that goes back to the time when he was a rascal, but not to the fact. The President of the United States was born so long ago that many of the friends of his youth have risen to high political and military preferment without the assistance of personal merit. The verses following were written by a macrobian: When I was young the world was fair And amiable and sunny. A brightness was in all the air, In all the waters, honey. The jokes were fine and funny, The statesmen honest in their views, And in their lives, as well, And when you heard a bit of news 'Twas true enough to tell. Men were not ranting, shouting, reeking, Nor women "generally speaking." The Summer then was long indeed: It lasted one whole season! The sparkling Winter gave no heed When ordered by Unreason To bring the early peas on. Now, where the dickens is the sense In calling that a year Which does no more than just commence Before the end is near? When I was young the year extended From month to month until it ended. I know not why the world has changed To something dark and dreary, And everything is now arranged To make a fellow weary. The Weather Man — I fear he Has much to do with it, for, sure, The air is not the same: It chokes you when it is impure, When pure it makes you lame. With windows closed you are asthmatic; Open, neuralgic or sciatic. Well, I suppose this new regime Of dun degeneration Seems eviler than it would seem To a better observation, And has for compensation Some blessings in a deep disguise Which mortal sight has failed To pierce, although to angels' eyes They're visible unveiled. If Age is such a boon, good land! He's costumed by a master hand! —Venable Strigg MACHINATION, n. The method employed by one's opponents in baffling one's open and honorable efforts to do the right thing. So plain the advantages of machination It constitutes a moral obligation, And honest wolves who think upon't with loathing Feel bound to don the sheep's deceptive clothing. So prospers still the diplomatic art, And Satan bows, with hand upon his heart. —R.S.K. MACE, n. A staff of office signifying authority. Its form, that of a heavy club, indicates its original purpose and use in dissuading from dissent. THEDEVILSDICTIONARY.COM, n. Ambrose Bierce's Devil's Dictionary, and less than 12k of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript coded by some misguided blackguard. The Devil's Dictionary was a newspaper weekly first collected as a book in 1906. While the book represents diabolical appetites, and derides pretense, it should be noted that Bierce generally reserved his severest ridicule for those who benefit most from the status quo. It's easy to imagine him a century later relying less on casual political incorrectness, to pay better tribute to those who couldn't overindulge enough on the prosperity that took place. Minor edits have been made here under that consideration. If you wish to copy and paste large excerpts from the Devil's Dictionary, HTML-only drafts of the book are listed at yahoo.com. MIKE LEUNG, n. One who exploits the dead to sell you the official site t-shirt. Except for the book adapted, this entire site uses less code than a typical wired.com front page. M MYTHOLOGY, n. The body of a primitive people's beliefs concerning its origin, early history, heroes, deities and so forth, as distinguished from the true accounts which it invents later. MYRMIDON, n. A follower of Achilles — particularly when he didn't lead. MUSTANG, n. An indocile horse of the western plains. In English society, the American wife of an English nobleman. MUMMY, n. An ancient Egyptian, formerly in universal use among modern civilized nations as medicine, and now engaged in supplying art with an excellent pigment. He is handy, too, in museums in gratifying the vulgar curiosity that serves to distinguish man from the lower animals. By means of the Mummy, mankind, it is said, Attests to the gods its respect for the dead. We plunder his tomb, be he sinner or saint, Distil him for physic and grind him for paint, Exhibit for money his poor, shrunken frame, And with levity flock to the scene of the shame. O, tell me, ye gods, for the use of my rhyme: For respecting the dead what's the limit of time? —Scopas Brune MULTITUDE, n. A crowd; the source of political wisdom and virtue. In a republic, the object of the statesman's adoration. "In a multitude of consellors there is wisdom," saith the proverb. If many men of equal individual wisdom are wiser than any one of them, it must be that they acquire the excess of wisdom by the mere act of getting together. Whence comes it? Obviously from nowhere — as well say that a range of mountains is higher than the single mountains composing it. A multitude is as wise as its wisest member if it obey him; if not, it is no wiser than its most foolish. MULATTO, n. A child of two races, ashamed of both. MUGWUMP, n. In politics one afflicted with self-respect and addicted to the vice of independence. A term of contempt. MOUTH, n. In man, the gateway to the soul; in woman, the outlet of the heart. MOUSQUETAIRE, n. A long glove covering a part of the arm. Worn in New Jersey. But "mousquetaire" is a might poor way to spell musketeer. MOUSE, n. An animal which strews its path with fainting women. As in Rome Christians were thrown to the lions, so centuries earlier in Otumwee, the most ancient and famous city of the world, female heretics were thrown to the mice. Jakak-Zotp, the historian, the only Otumwump whose writings have descended to us, says that these martyrs met their death with little dignity and much exertion. He even attempts to exculpate the mice (such is the malice of bigotry) by declaring that the unfortunate women perished, some from exhaustion, some of broken necks from falling over their own feet, and some from lack of restoratives. The mice, he avers, enjoyed the pleasures of the chase with composure. But if "Roman history is nine-tenths lying," we can hardly expect a smaller proportion of that rhetorical figure in the annals of a people capable of so incredible cruelty to a lovely women; for a hard heart has a false tongue. MORE, adj. The comparative degree of too much. MORAL, adj. Conforming to a local and mutable standard of right. Having the quality of general expediency. It is sayd there be a raunge of mountaynes in the Easte, on one syde of the which certayn conducts are immorall, yet on the other syde they are holden in good esteeme; wherebye the mountayneer is much conveenyenced, for it is given to him to goe downe eyther way and act as it shall suite his moode, withouten offence. —Gooke's Meditations MONUMENT, n. A structure intended to commemorate something which either needs no commemoration or cannot be commemorated. The bones of Agammemnon are a show, And ruined is his royal monument, but Agammemnon's fame suffers no diminution in consequence. The monument custom has its reductiones ad absurdum in monuments "to the unknown dead" — that is to say, monuments to perpetuate the memory of those who have left no memory. MONSIGNOR, n. A high ecclesiastical title, of which the Founder of our religion overlooked the advantages. MONOSYLLABIC, adj. Composed of words of one syllable, for literary babes who never tire of testifying their delight in the vapid compound by appropriate googoogling. The words are commonly Saxon — that is to say, words of a barbarous people destitute of ideas and incapable of any but the most elementary sentiments and emotions. The man who writes in Saxon Is the man to use an ax on —Judibras MONKEY, n. An arboreal animal which makes itself at home in genealogical trees. MONEY, n. A blessing that is of no advantage to us excepting when we part with it. An evidence of culture and a passport to polite society. Supportable property. MONDAY, n. In Christian countries, the day after the baseball game. MONARCHICAL GOVERNMENT, n. Government. MONARCH, n. A person engaged in reigning. Formerly the monarch ruled, as the derivation of the word attests, and as many subjects have had occasion to learn. In Russia and the Orient the monarch has still a considerable influence in public affairs and in the disposition of the human head, but in western Europe political administration is mostly entrusted to his ministers, he being somewhat preoccupied with reflections relating to the status of his own head. MONAD, n. The ultimate, indivisible unit of matter. (See MOLECULE.) According to Leibnitz, as nearly as he seems willing to be understood, the monad has body without bulk, and mind without manifestation — Leibnitz knows him by the innate power of considering. He has founded upon him a theory of the universe, which the creature bears without resentment, for the monad is a gentleman. Small as he is, the monad contains all the powers and possibilities needful to his evolution into a German philosopher of the first class — altogether a very capable little fellow. He is not to be confounded with the microbe, or bacillus; by its inability to discern him, a good microscope shows him to be of an entirely distinct species. MOLECULE, n. The ultimate, indivisible unit of matter. It is distinguished from the corpuscle, also the ultimate, indivisible unit of matter, by a closer resemblance to the atom, also the ultimate, indivisible unit of matter. Three great scientific theories of the structure of the universe are the molecular, the corpuscular and the atomic. A fourth affirms, with Haeckel, the condensation of precipitation of matter from ether — whose existence is proved by the condensation of precipitation. The present trend of scientific thought is toward the theory of ions. The ion differs from the molecule, the corpuscle and the atom in that it is an ion. A fifth theory is held by idiots, but it is doubtful if they know any more about the matter than the others. MISS, n. The title with which we brand unmarried women to indicate that they are in the market. Miss, Missis (Mrs.) and Mister (Mr.) are the three most distinctly disagreeable words in the language, in sound and sense. Two are corruptions of Mistress, the other of Master. In the general abolition of social titles in this our country they miraculously escaped to plague us. If we must have them let us be consistent and give one to the unmarried man. I venture to suggest Mush, abbreviated to Mh. MISFORTUNE, n. The kind of fortune that never misses. MISERICORDE, n. A dagger which in mediaeval warfare was used by the foot soldier to remind an unhorsed knight that he was mortal. MISDEMEANOR, n. An infraction of the law having less dignity than a felony and constituting no claim to admittance into the best criminal society. By misdemeanors he essays to climb Into the aristocracy of crime. O, woe was him! — with manner chill and grand "Captains of industry" refused his hand, "Kings of finance" denied him recognition And "railway magnates" jeered his low condition. He robbed a bank to make himself respected. They still rebuffed him, for he was detected. —S.V. Hanipur MISCREANT, n. A person of the highest degree of unworth. Etymologically, the word means unbeliever, and its present signification may be regarded as theology's noblest contribution to the development of our language. MIRACLE, n. An act or event out of the order of nature and unaccountable, as beating a normal hand of four kings and an ace with four aces and a king. MINSTREL, adj. Formerly a poet, singer or musician; now a [deleted expletive] with a color less than skin deep and a humor more than flesh and blood can bear. MINOR, adj. Less objectionable. MINISTER, n. An agent of a higher power with a lower responsibility. In diplomacy and officer sent into a foreign country as the visible embodiment of his sovereign's hostility. His principal qualification is a degree of plausible inveracity next below that of an ambassador. MINE, adj. Belonging to me if I can hold or seize it. MIND, n. A mysterious form of matter secreted by the brain. Its chief activity consists in the endeavor to ascertain its own nature, the futility of the attempt being due to the fact that it has nothing but itself to know itself with. From the Latin mens, a fact unknown to that honest shoe-seller, who, observing that his learned competitor over the way had displayed the motto "Mens conscia recti," emblazoned his own front with the words "Men's, women's and children's conscia recti." MILLENNIUM, n. The period of a thousand years when the lid is to be screwed down, with all reformers on the under side. METROPOLIS, n. A stronghold of provincialism. MESMERISM, n. Hypnotism before it wore good clothes, kept a carriage and asked Incredulity to dinner. MERCY, n. An attribute beloved of detected offenders. MERCHANT, n. One engaged in a commercial pursuit. A commercial pursuit is one in which the thing pursued is a dollar. MENDACIOUS, adj. Addicted to rhetoric. MEERSCHAUM, n. (Literally, seafoam, and by many erroneously supposed to be made of it.) A fine white clay, which for convenience in coloring it brown is made into tobacco pipes and smoked by the workmen engaged in that industry. The purpose of coloring it has not been disclosed by the manufacturers. There was a youth (you've heard before, This woeful tale, may be), Who bought a meerschaum pipe and swore That color it would he! He shut himself from the world away, Nor any soul he saw. He smoke by night, he smoked by day, As hard as he could draw. His dog died moaning in the wrath Of winds that blew aloof; The weeds were in the gravel path, The owl was on the roof. "He's gone afar, he'll come no more," The neighbors sadly say. And so they batter in the door To take his goods away. Dead, pipe in mouth, the youngster lay, Nut-brown in face and limb. "That pipe's a lovely white," they say, "But it has colored him!" The moral there's small need to sing — 'Tis plain as day to you: Don't play your game on any thing That is a gamester too. —Martin Bulstrode MEEKNESS, n. Uncommon patience in planning a revenge that is worth while. M is for Moses, Who slew the Egyptian. As sweet as a rose is The meekness of Moses. No monument shows his Post-mortem inscription, But M is for Moses Who slew the Egyptian. —The Biographical Alphabet MEDICINE, n. A stone flung down the Bowery to kill a dog in Broadway. MEDAL, n. A small metal disk given as a reward for virtues, attainments or services more or less authentic. It is related of Bismark, who had been awarded a medal for gallantly rescuing a drowning person, that, being asked the meaning of the medal, he replied: "I save lives sometimes." And sometimes he didn't. MEANDER, n. To proceed sinuously and aimlessly. The word is the ancient name of a river about one hundred and fifty miles south of Troy, which turned and twisted in the effort to get out of hearing when the Greeks and Trojans boasted of their prowess. ME, pro. The objectionable case of I. The personal pronoun in English has three cases, the dominative, the objectionable and the oppressive. Each is all three. MAYONNAISE, n. One of the sauces which serve the French in place of a state religion. MAUSOLEUM, n. The final and funniest folly of the rich. MATERIAL, adj. Having an actual existence, as distinguished from an imaginary one. Important. Material things I know, or fell, or see; All else is immaterial to me. —Jamrach Holobom MARTYR, n. One who moves along the line of least reluctance to a desired death. MARRIAGE, n. The state or condition of a community consisting of a master, a mistress and two slaves, making in all, two.

Wow, quite an entry, BR

Scrabs - when is your hike?

2:24 pm

On Aug 7th. We practiced on a smaller mtn a few days ago (6 mi roundtrip, 2900 ft). Mt Marcy = 14.8 mi roundtrip + 5344 ft. It was humbling--raining, we were soaked, tough climb, exhausted at the end.

I know you are tough and will make it!

2:25 pm

We will take it slow, if needed, stay hydrated, and keep consuming fuel regularly. I waited too long to eat the other day and got nauseated + shaky.

2:26 pm

It was weird, as I wasn't hungry, but I was hypoglycemic.

It happens to me at the gym in cycling class if I dont eat something before hand

afternoon babblers!

2:28 pm

I am now searching for rain gear--backpack cover, waterproof hat, rain suit. We got soaked.

4:37 pm

4:37 pm

Hi, m9!

4:37 pm

heya m9

4:38 pm

Hi M9, I am about to go get ready for work, myself...

4:38 pm

heya red

I just had an excellent dinner meal...wow.

4:38 pm

I pulled a silly this am and forgot about the last stair on the way down to do laundry......

4:38 pm

Do tell...

4:38 pm

ooh.. what did you have?!?!?!??!

4:38 pm

we have missionaries for dinner this eve.

Coriander ENcrusted Fish (Salmon but could be done with tuna) with Chickpea Artichoke salad.

4:39 pm

Missionaries! Are you cannibals?

It was very easy to make, my goodness, tasty.

4:39 pm

Sounds delish, red!

4:39 pm

nummy! coriander. hmmmm. I've had some good encrusted salmon before.

lol, not just me who thought that then jellen

the arugula was very bitter, but a bit of oil and vinegar dressing tamed it.

4:39 pm

yeah..they're kind of tough...but if you marinate them..

4:40 pm

Hi, Chrissie

4:40 pm

(i thought it too)

4:40 pm

we must all have sick minds because i thought it too

hi everyone

Missionaries tend to be tough, depending on where they mission...

I totally did NOT think that...I am so average.

4:40 pm

I'm going to buy a head of lettuce at the store to mix with the lettuce from Aiden's garden..as her lettuce is getting pretty bitter.

4:41 pm

nah.. these guys are total sweethearts.

4:41 pm

I think we decided on avacado, blueberries and slivered almonds for the salad this eve.

oooh Nice. very nice.

Alas, now that chat has somehow been revived, I must head into work. Hoping it is a lot less icky than Sat night.

4:42 pm

I was pretty pleased with the salad a few nights ago. Aiden even left off skyping with her fiancee to come out and say "Mom!! This salad is aMAZing!"

4:43 pm

*hoping for less ick for red*

thanks for bringing a smile to us all red

thank you Jellen. It's monday, not Fun day but mayeb something odd will occur. Hope all is well with everyone and Poofity Poof.

4:43 pm

(blueberries are really good in a meat salad with shaved asagio cheese. Especially if you slightly sautee the blueberries and warm them...the flavor really comes out)

4:44 pm

and a little honey in the vinaigrette...

4:44 pm

Ooh, sounds interesting, m9...

4:44 pm

wow I'm getting hungry!

4:45 pm

We're having soup and salad tonight. homemade chicken soup is really good at our house!

4:45 pm

LOL

4:45 pm

and I'm going to do the crispy garlic bread tonight.

4:46 pm

the secret to good chicken soup is just a LITTLE bit of tomato sauce or paste..and lots of cumin.

4:46 pm

and we have little yellow squash from the garden! heaven!

4:47 pm

Do you have a recipe, m9?

4:47 pm

We don't use recipes at our house. But I could write out the general idea.LOL

4:48 pm

I don't cook, but Tim's bro does...

4:48 pm

uh Jellen...is Tim your pet today? LOL

4:49 pm

No, put him on yesterday...haven't changed yet...

4:49 pm

4:51 pm

So-so...got sick this morning...I don't know what to do about it...

4:51 pm

He has meds for nausea, but doesn't seem to be able to read his own body...

4:52 pm

4:52 pm

4:52 pm

4:53 pm

I have medical friends, if Tim would take the advice...

4:53 pm

(((Jellen))) hello all.

4:54 pm

Hi, stid!

hi stid

4:54 pm

Tim needs to have as much control over advice and everything else as possible right now...

4:54 pm

how's the grid? other than small?

4:54 pm

Hi stiddaughter.

4:54 pm

Tough for me...

4:55 pm

Hi, stidgmere

4:55 pm

hello Mother.

4:55 pm

yes Jellen, tough to be the primary caregiver when the person you love is suffering so much.

4:56 pm

Hi Jellen. I'm following the chat about Tim's health and praying.

4:56 pm

Oh, I meant the grid, lol

4:56 pm

oh! LOL ((Jellen)) *choclit for embarassment*

4:58 pm

there are some tiles trying to hide from me. *determined mama look*

4:59 pm

here fishy fishy fishy...

4:59 pm

Although it is frustrating...Tim is capable of using the internet to find answers to his nausea, etc., and he's not...

5:00 pm

maybe he needs to try to assert his toughness? *thinking of "manly" men I have known*

5:01 pm

! found another 7 starting with Jellens guy. Morning all

5:01 pm

Hi, lynxxx!

5:01 pm

hey lynxxx~

5:02 pm

oooh. thanks lynxxx!

5:02 pm

In some ways, he's a typical guy...

5:02 pm

"ionade" a beverage for the atomic age?

5:05 pm

oooh. left column grey!

5:07 pm

Go, stid!

5:08 pm

are you done Jellen?

5:08 pm

oooh.... NBT!

5:08 pm

20 left...

5:09 pm

go jellen!!!!

5:10 pm

oh! I got 15 gold sparkly garland thingies (like people put on xmas trees) for $1 and 15 rolls of really cool fabric ribbon (2" wide) for $1 also! Hate when stores go out of business, but making the best of the situation.

5:11 pm

I am going to use them to border bulletin boards...

5:11 pm

Fun, stid!

5:12 pm

do you know what button blankets are jellen? they are common with coast salish peoples as gifts for special events. some of the ribbon is this wonderful red felt with real shell buttons sewed on! It is the COOLEST I have ever seen!

5:13 pm

No, I haven't heard of them...

5:14 pm

http://tinyurl.com/3xjgro9 links to the pics at google images.

5:15 pm

traditional colors in this area are red and black and white, patinaed copper/blue-green is common as an accent

5:15 pm

Cool...

5:16 pm

yep. they're beautiful.

5:17 pm

I have seen those before, just didn't know what they were called...

5:17 pm

so the ribbon looks a LOT like border for button blanket.

5:19 pm

Ah...

5:19 pm

:-D yep. a real find at less than ten cents per spool.

5:20 pm

You will have so much fun teaching, stid!

5:20 pm

You have a sense of adventure...

5:21 pm

:-D thanks Jellen. I needed to hear that today!

5:21 pm

One of my role models in teaching was a lady just about to retire, but every year she came to me asking how we could improve each unit...

5:22 pm

You remind me of her...

5:22 pm

wow. *sparkles at compliment* what did you teach?

5:23 pm

I was a school librarian...and taught freshman English one semester...

5:23 pm

Before that, I taught library skills and children's lit at the university...

5:23 pm

oh, I ADORE school librarians (knew you had been a librarian, didn't know it was at a school). They are the COOLEST people on the planet!

5:24 pm

I had a rough time as a school librarian...didn't have the support of many teachers...

5:25 pm

oh, I am sorry to hear that.

5:25 pm

There was so much opportunity to teach cooperatively, but they just wanted me as a break time...

5:27 pm

that's sad. I am really hoping the librarians at the school I will be at in the fall will be interested in working with me on figuring out this short story unit... I know I can use some guidance, and would love a chance to show the students new uses for the library.

5:28 pm

I hope so, too...

5:28 pm

Oh! I'm at 3 left!

5:28 pm

I am stuck at 23. should I list?

5:28 pm

5:31 pm

5:31 pm

And that's fireworks!!!

5:32 pm

7:43 pm

*waves at piniGD!* hello!!!

7:43 pm

mmmm. lemon meringue... (my meringues always turn out soggy)

7:43 pm

We've had a great day so far...did a little planning, shopping for supplies, lunch with Pinikid2, baking, and are now waiting for our homemade pulled pork to marinate in BBQ and heat up!

i hate it when they weep

7:44 pm

* PiniGD waves back *

7:44 pm

that sounds like a PERFECT day, pini!

7:44 pm

when they seep, I weep... *wicked mama grin*

7:44 pm

of course it's so humid here much of the time I really don't have a chance

7:45 pm

now i want a rack of honey garlic ribs...:/

watching rerun of st elsewhere -live this show

7:45 pm

*arranges garlic in rib shapes with lovely honey sauce on barbeque platter* best I can do cross...

7:45 pm

I'm having cheese and crackers

7:45 pm

so far!!! tmw's schedule include lunch with PiniKid2, creating a pasta salad bar, movie, decorating today's baking

7:46 pm

mmm,ty stidmama((()))

going to make dinner now - later all

7:46 pm

we have 10 more words to find...PGD has actually found some herself! :)

7:46 pm

I should start something for supper.. Has anyone here ever had braces? stidkid#2 got his first set today and I was thinking maybe he would like a soup... but don't know if he will want to chew anything (even soft soup)

7:46 pm

later TO!

7:47 pm

gee pini, wish you were old enough to be MY grandmother (or auntie) instead of my big sister! LOL

7:47 pm

gosh, stid...ice cream sounds promising for stidkid2

7:47 pm

ROFL - sorry, stid!!!

7:47 pm

I'm "Nonna" to PiniGD :)

7:48 pm

I think we have ice cream, if not I will run to the little store later to get it. He also baked a lovely blueberry pie, but not sure he'll want to chew even that. :-(

7:48 pm

Braces today are much more humane than when I had them...

7:48 pm

Soup is fine, Stid. Go for it!

7:48 pm

Same here, Jellen! Metal surrounding the tooth. Now they just put a little bit on and connect with wire. Wussies! ;)

7:49 pm

thanks Champ, that's what I will make then. I have some nice veggies that are fresh.

7:49 pm

I can't get anything today...

7:49 pm

rofl champ! (I won't tell the kiddo you said that...)

7:49 pm

jell-o!

7:49 pm

braces were for the rich kids when i was growing up

7:49 pm

Good luck! My daughter just got hers off...top retainer tomorrow. Whoops! Have to go pick up the youngest. BRB...

7:50 pm

good idea pini, but we don't have any because of my allergies. I could probably do a custard though.

7:50 pm

Well, far be it from me to say much since I've never had braces...but I would think something on the cool side would be soothing...perhaps a little of both; some soup and then something cool (watermelon)

7:51 pm

exactly, cross -- it's more cosmetic than anything at this point in his life, but later on it should help him NOT have uneven wear issues.

7:51 pm

(other than my "theory" thinking, I'll be quiet now)

7:51 pm

we have watermelon! :-D GREAT idea!

7:51 pm

* grin *

7:52 pm

definaty stid,it is much easier now and more of a common thing hence less expensive

7:52 pm

*points to pini* see, piniGD? she DOES have good ideas! (and there are witnesses, too!)

7:52 pm

actually, the orthodontist gave us a significantly reduced rate because we are repeat customers from the elder stidkid and the price has gone up so much. *sigh*

7:53 pm

ap6?

7:53 pm

oh my!

7:53 pm

AND they came up with a payment plan we can manage until the new year (and new insurance cycle) begin.

7:53 pm

sleep ap6

7:53 pm

ap6 is Brit spelling of ap5

7:53 pm

i thought that was the ap5...

7:53 pm

the ap 6 is the ap 5 with an extra (round) vowel. looks british to me

7:54 pm

oh ok thank you

7:54 pm

go magyk go!

7:54 pm

has River been around this evening?

7:54 pm

good evening. too excited to sleep!

7:54 pm

hi NB!

7:54 pm

an6?

7:54 pm

I have not seen her...

7:54 pm

ty stidmama

7:54 pm

hey Nancy Boy -- why too excited? are you going to star in your own life?

7:55 pm

Hi, NB!

7:55 pm

Hey NB

7:55 pm

AN 6 is a yellow food coloring, I think.

7:55 pm

AN + preposition indicating place + directional preposition used in English infiinitives

7:55 pm

We're working on the same an6 and PiniGD and I just looked at each other with very peculiar grins about that clue!

7:56 pm

"a yellowish-red dye obtained from the pulp enclosing the seeds of this tree, used for coloring fabrics, butter, varnish, etc"

7:56 pm

22 left..might actually finish this one;))

7:56 pm

I'll be honest Stid...I don't know what that means ;)

7:56 pm

thank you stidmama

7:56 pm

hmph. well, if my clues are not wanted... I could go start that soup...

7:56 pm

ty again stidmama

7:57 pm

PiniGD would like stid's clue reduced to 4th grade English? plz? (I'm as lost!)

7:57 pm

to star in your own life... I was using it to mean that you are taking control and being the most important person.

7:57 pm

okay piniGD. AN + not a dog but a C** + I want ** go home (said Dorothy)

7:57 pm

ohhhh. well no, to give me total control would be downright dangerous ;)

7:58 pm

an + ** this place + from me ** you

7:58 pm

YEAH!!! we got it!!!

7:58 pm

9 to go

7:58 pm

8

7:58 pm

well then, what has you so excited?

7:58 pm

go pini and piniGD go!!!

7:59 pm

well, two things. one, I keep thinking about my trip and getting hyped up. two - my nerdy side coming out - I just found out you can look at space on google earth!

7:59 pm

oooh, how fun (on both counts), NB!!!

7:59 pm

trip? trip? *trips over idea* TO WHERE?

8:00 pm

7

8:00 pm

6

8:00 pm

I'll give you a hint: it begins with a K and I've been there before...

8:00 pm

5

8:00 pm

I didn't know that about Google Earth!

8:00 pm

I wonder if clam chowder would taste good to the kiddo... potatoes cut small and chopped clams to make them easier to chew.

8:00 pm

really???? WOW.... *faints*

8:01 pm

Pini, I can't believe I didn't know about it before now. You can see stars and stuff :D and Mars, and the moon!

8:01 pm

stidkid knew -- he's a google earth addict. I think there is a way to see mars from google earth.

8:01 pm

creamy might be good, stid...just nothing that can lodge in the new electrical wiring :)

8:02 pm

it was a birthday present from my friends, Stid - they bought me a trip there so I can go tell my family I'm alive. Er, I'm scared! But in a good way (?)

8:02 pm

yep. no caramels, no nuts, no swedish fish, no fun. *sigh* he's being a good sport, though. I bought him his own acceptable choclit supply.

8:02 pm

(((Nancy Boy))) you will be in my heart the whole time. When is this trip?

8:03 pm

*gulp* mid/late august!

8:03 pm

and thank you, Stid :)

8:03 pm

4

8:03 pm

if I have the dates, I will put you on my calendar. you can email me if you want (or not)... rather than put them in a public forum like this

8:03 pm

(me, too, NB!)

8:04 pm

If I could, I would meet up with you (since Korea's closer to me than the UK). but our babble meet is Aug 21 and I shall be furiously cleaning the house.

8:04 pm

oh, I don't mind. the person who robs me whilst I'm on holiday is an unfortunate soul indeed. I leave on the 20th, I think.

8:04 pm

8:04 pm

8:05 pm

8:37 pm

8:38 pm

or you could do like. me.... wait for a friend who bought it to finish it... I just picked it up tonight.... can't wait to begin it

ty

8:38 pm

the third one probably wont come out in paperback for at least a year, unless you know someone in Europe who can get it for you.

it was the yiddish theif!

8:39 pm

but i usually spell the yiddish thief with an O!

nrk has the second one but i forgot to take it when i was there

8:39 pm

hi dorens .. we do that too, but early summer is slim pickins *lol* in august, the book-go-round picks up (and besides, i have to contribute to it, too)

i think i have also seem it with the second vowel as an i

I owe y'all. You prefer to take it out in cash or baked goods?

11:45 pm

Oh, baked goods. Definitely.

11:45 pm

11:45 pm

whee! brownies!

11:45 pm

11:45 pm

Mmmmm....brownies!

11:46 pm

Did y'all hear about the scary scary man in England who is monopolizing the world's chocolate supply?

11:46 pm

uh, no?

11:46 pm

No, really?

11:47 pm

how dare he!

11:47 pm

Yes, really. it's bizarre. he bought cocoa futures, and most of the time when people buy futures they never even see the commodity,

11:47 pm

But he's actually paying to warehouse 200,000+ tons of cocoa beans http://tinyurl.com/28ax4ax

11:47 pm

Hedge fund manager Anthony Ward has cornered a large piece of the world's cocoa market after buying 240,000 tonnes of cocoa beans, reports suggest.

11:48 pm

From the BBC

11:48 pm

* sigh *

11:48 pm

maybe he's planning some serious romancing?

11:48 pm

DIABOLICAL!! http://tinyurl.com/28ax4ax

11:49 pm

wish I had 1/2 his pocketbook!

11:51 pm

I suppose I should start stocking up on chocolate while the prices are still where I can get some! :)

11:52 pm

Pretty much. My husband and I do a lot of baking, and we came across an extreme sale a year and a half ago and bought them out, but we're starting to run low on baker's chocolate.

11:52 pm

Yeah, the article I linked to says that he's pretty much in a position to single handedly drive up the price of a chocolate bar on a global scale. Nothing like a little old-fashioned hoarding to make you rich, huh? . . . Sorry you had to come in to such SCARY SCARY news gremlin
