wtg pini
for nbt,...or using google jilli?
In 5th grade we had Latin lessons about once every week or two from a guest high school teacher - I don't remember much of the grammar or vocab, but I remember a couple things we had to memorize.
brb - koda break
private school gremm?
both, m9, lol!
no, public
wow
i attended public schools, and had had spanish, hawaiian, japanese, and german by the end of grade 5. Only the Spanish fully stuck.
Besides that Latin, I only had choices of French or Spanish from 7th to 12th.
your schools were very unusual, dc
I went to public schools too. in middle school we did spanish. I think there may have been little stint in french. But I was so miserable I really don't remember much of anything.
Hi all
hi barb
hi, barb
we had Latin and French from a very early age in our Brit schools. In my NY high school we had both too, back in the early 40s.
I think there wa also spanish and german in that HS
They should teach Greek too.
I agree(k)
only greek i got was in my spanish and astronomy classes
i concur that greek should be more widely taught.
Maybe a "comparitive languages" course would be good for a broad overview.
my dad slipped a few Greeks words into my consciousness
i use comparative grammar when tutoring spanish students.
comparative
hello everyone :) small but tough?

hi ruru!
I just changed my icon.
hello m9
what a w5 icon
I got this fab book about people eating insects around the world. Elina just reminded me about a picture of an icecream with a frozen honey ant placed artfully on top. couldn't find the book..so googled a honey ant pic.
persons eating insects.
oh nice, m9!
that would really bug me
this is the book: http://tinyurl.com/3x43gg8
instead of what's up? it would be wasp up!

No you didn't, ruru
(concentrating on last word)
I got interrupted so am still at 19
me too
finally got that stupid re8 though
well done, jilli ;)
haven't listed yet though
Elina corrected me. not on ice cream. just on a chocolate cup. I found it online and changed my icon again!
doesn't that look scrumptuous??
I see ants
I can't get re6 before the 8, any clues please?

nighty nightelax ruru!
but as I said, it quite often appears in books when there's a mistake -- an added slip of paper with a correction. Maybe mostly in scholarly books.
ah jilli, see we have same ant! I remember having them when we were finishing the house, they came out at night but haven't seen them since
that's why I didn't get it jilli, not scholarly
this is cool! you can see all the pics from that bug eating book here: http://tinyurl.com/39z8xrh
flosey, I mentioned that (sort of) right at flip time -- said "great minds, flosey". guess you had plunged right into the grid and didn't see that.
sorry, guess I was glued to the grid - with hubby looking over shoulder
probably, flosey, lol!
lol - sometimes it slows me down, when he calls out a word, I forget where I was looking
*note to self. Don't build wood house on Salt Spring Island*
most homes here are wood m9
I don't think I've ever seen a brick house here - have you Jilli?
I don't think so!
stone maybe, from island stone
not stone wither.
you do like that word, don't you?
not wither either, duh
rammed earth, yes ;)

w and e are next to each other
may I have a clue for the last dr5/12 please?
I do it too, often get right hand over a set - asdf***kl;' - easy to do on laptop
I still peek at the keys when typing.
the little dots that usually appear on f and j seem to have been worn off
if the wood is dr5 is it easier for the ants to eat?

evening all
does anyone know what the word "aeguiles" means??
what makest thou think it IS a word?
maybe someone meant to type "beguiles"
cos scrabble accepts it :)
well, maybe someone mistyped it into the scrabble dictionary!
lol maybe! cos I can't find anything!
just wondered if anyone else had any better ideas!
google turning up NO entries other than a misreading of a scanned book with the name arguiles is a pretty strong statement.
yes .... I found the same
good afternoon all. Another small one... is it sneaky and chewy or smooth and over too fast?
but you could always pop over to the library and have a peek in the complete OED
it's pretty easy this time sprite
Morning all. Just got back from grocery shopping - completely drenched!
we're just having another very random words thread on my FB and that came up :)
thanks hursh. Not much chance to evade homely task then...
hi Nancy Boy :)
Mornin', Sprite. That's some insect, in your picture ;)
isn't it :)
conversation seems to stop very suddenly... not meaning to disturb your chat, Ata and hursh?
you didn't!!
pfew am glad. How's the knee, Ata?
I was thinking it was me, Sprite :) How are you?
feeling rather lousy because I hardly sleep nowadays, it is SO hot. But otherwise pretty good. How's your ankle today?
hurting. like normal. LOL!
Oh, that's no good, Sprite :( can you rig up some fans? or buy a waterbed and freeze it? ;)
argh Ata :( I hope it is hurting from healing. Situation at home unchanged?
yep, and poor hobbit is very sad cos she's not having long walks this week!
all fans are sold out in this crazy country. But hey, great idea, about the waterbed! *googles to find a freezer big enough for a bed*
aw poor Hobbit, sweetie. Things will be better, promise. *playful cuddle*
I'll bring you back some from Korea ;) of course, they'll all have timer switches on, 'cause over there people think they can kill you if left on....sigh.
lol! While I really need them at night mostly.
so, how about that ankle, Nancy Boy? *stern mama look*
I didn't know it got so hot there. England is cooling down, just had an awesome rain shower which has drenched me head to toe!
I would have loved to be there with you, Nancy Boy. We can use a big shower. But it does seem to cool down a bit today, indeed. I long for a night that is cold enough to have a sheet over me.
Are you stealing Stid's stern mama look? ;) the ankle is dreading going to work later but is otherwise fine. Bruises are lighter but it's still the same colour as my icon :P
I love your icon. Bruises getting all colours is a good sign. Are you still having new black spots coming up from the deep or not? And yes, stiddie and I have that same look :)
I'm trying to get into the spirit for my trip ;) and nope, think it's well on it's way to healing now! Despite my employer's concern, it's actually been pretty good for my job - all my regular punters and now coming in even more regularly to see how I am! :)
awwww that is kind of sweet. Glad to know you are more than an object to them, Nancy Boy. Another load of healing vibes coming up...
the bruising never came out probably in the knee - 5 weeks after the accident my shin and knee was still puffed up with bruising that wouldn't come out and the physio had to poke them a lot to break them up
oh yes, the knee is such a wondrous place, lol. Tendons and weird bones and muscles... no place for a bruise to walk its normal path. You must have cursed the physio to Pluto and back ;)
it hurt LOL. yes, she basically said, if it's not hurting like hell right now, you're not pressing hard enough
hahaha, the wicked witch
oh yes Sprite, they are sweet guys :) I should probably hop (literally) into the shower though, before I freeze to death! So thanks for all the healing vibes, Sprite, and see you later!
she's a great physio though, I love her
bye Nancy Boy, have a good day and take care *hug*
a physio must be a little wicked or they wouldn't be able to break bad cycles.
absolutely
aha! there you are, little solo E letter
a friend of mine has had about everything you can have done to your legs... stance correction, new knees, new hips. And she had a real love/hate relation with her physio. They literally yelled at eachother, lol.
hm don't have it yet, looking. WTG for you for flushing it out.
hah got it. Nothing little about it!
I#d been trying to get that word all morning and suddenly realised how to see it!
the corner where it ends is easy to ignore

How many words today?
76
76
Thanks.
Oh my, I have 7 left. I have' t hit Lickety left- this is pretty fun.
mornin babblers!
Yes, I am enjoying this grid too...no Lickety as of yet
Hi Evan
waffle for breakfast... with strawberries and blueberries + a little maple syrup.... MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
I meant yet instead of left. I have been riffing on the phrase "A nominal egg" for days and found a site called "Eggcorns" that specializes in common mispronouncuations and misueses. Another I like is "Balling my eyes out." And of course, I hope they find an anecdote to that poison.
Misuses, not misuseses of course!
I caught that, was thinking of correcting the misuse
I have 2 left..one r and one w...might save for later
I live in Boston, where people actually think the correct phrase is A Nominal Egg.
i know a gal who always types "should of" and "might of" -- kinda drives me batty. i also had a friend who honestly thought the phrase was "minus well" -- as in "work was canceled, so i 'minus well' sleep in"
LOL, Eva
That's the stuff, eva. Also "a last stitch effort."
"a nominal egg" i cant figure out what phrase that is supposed to be... ?
I know a guy who is just out standing in his field.
I have a friend that says notary republic
That will cost me a nominal egg- I really can't afford it.
funny
be back later
hi all, the misuse that drives me crazy and has become so widely misuesd that it seem to be acceptable is "I seen" as in "I seen the tornado hit the trailer park"
ohhhh!! arm and a leg!
http://www.grammarblog.co.uk/2009/01/t he-grammarblog-eggcorn-appeal/
ooh, or "conversate"
Now your cooking!
ooh, or irregardless.
:)
Repeat that again?
"I could care less."
my hubby says that a kid acting very poorly is having a "tentrum tantrum".
drives me nuts
"2am in the morning"
heh, when i was little, i thought WW2 was pronounced "war-war two"
I am a real purist about midnight and noon and can't stand it when people say "12 AM" or "12 PM" as if they know which is which.
Our father who art i heaven
Harold be thy name.
Round John Virgin.
i agree, kaplan. even if you know, the difference, i prefer to say midnight or noon, since it is both clearer and easier.
LOL Kaplan. I'm thinking I should never speak to any babblers - my influx of london slang would shame me...
in the name of the father, the son, and the oily goose
I love Brit slang, NB
and then there is "basically"
16 left....going to Lickety
NB!!!! i have to run to a meeting. be here in 20?
I would figure babblers would take to this topic as there are so many word nerds. (Word Nords?)
I'm down with the slang, but I'm fighting desperately to keep hold of my accent. I keep lapsing into more and more of a London twang and it's terrifying. I speak the queen's english, don'tcha know..
Sure thing, Eva ;)
Down to the last one. This is a fun grid today - not as frustrating as usual!
Do you get different slang in different parts of the states? Here people from the north and people from the south might as well be speaking a different language.
I dunno - what are ya'll doin' later? I'm fixin' to go to the store. I live in the South and it is absolutely different slang than other parts of the country.
NB, one example is that in the midwest we call soda drinks pop but if I got elsewhere in the country and ask for a pop they don't what I'm talking about
In the South, everything is called a "Coke" whether it is orange or lemon-lime or even Pepsi.
coke cola? lol
LOL!
fireworks
Co-cola is a favorite word here too.
WTG FishFish
Congrats, Fish!
How bizarre. Since moving to London I've actually met people who use rhyming slang - sadly, it's infection
infection...infectIOUS...
on accents - Glasgow and Edinburgh accent slang is incomprehensible to each other; and they are only 40 miles apart
*tiptoes back into chog and snoggles NB*
meeting over? ;)
yup!
Finally, fireworks!
I don't know how you can deal with stuff like that so early in the morning. It's twenty past two here and I'm just about awake..
thankfully, most of the time, i only need to show up, shut up, and sit there -- it usually has nothing to do with me. today i actually had to say something good thing i dressed business-y today! (save for the dangly skull earrings im wearing) ;) and its usually a quick meeting, 15 minutes or less.
twice a week, and i basically just have to be there to pass on the word if anything is actually coming our way...
lol! just look interested, right? ;) I have a problem with listening to people in the morning, though - school assemblies always used to send me off to sleep. It's the soothing lull of someone's voice...zzz...
just have eyes open, really is the only criteria. ;)
we even get a printout of the schedule, so i just look it over a soon as i get there, and if nothing applies to me, i just amuse myself for the next 10-20 minutes. :)
I dream of a job where sitting down is an option ;) speaking of jobs, though, I'd better get ready to run along to mine...sigh
awwwww
if only i could pay you to stay here + entertain me all day. :)
don't I wish! I could be a kept man ;)
heh, a man id love to keep, my dear. :)
well aren't you sweet ;) I'd best be off though. I can hear the burly men clamouring for my attention already ;) s'later! xx
l*r, sk*r!
L8R SK8R, even!
Back late answering NB's question- there are different slangs in EVERY region, because ("Basically") we are not the United States but 50 little separate warring countries.
The many variations on a long sandwich on a kind of roll: Hero in NY, subs in New England, also Hoagies and gyros.
Pop vs. soda vs. tonic.
Freeways on the west coast, highways on the east. Rotaries on the east, roundabouts on the west.
Kap: sandwiches down south=Po' Boys
I can't speak southern, but I am pretty fluent in New Yorkese and Boston ease, having lived in both.
I remember in London my friend asking in a restaurant where the bathroom was, and the waiter wondered why she wanted to take a bath in the middle of dinner.
Milk shakes are frappes in New England except Rhode Island where they are cabinets
"Boston ease"- I meant Bostonese of course.
And in New England, convenience stores are called spas.
Liquor stores are package stores, or packies.
In West Virginia, green peppers are called mangoes
really? And what are mangoes called? Bananas?
Don't know, maybe you can't get mangoes in West Virginia. :^)
:)
So they wonder why places outside of WV sell green pepper smoothies?
im going to have to ask my coworker about the green pepper/mango thing, since hes from WVa. curious!
wht, convenience stores = spas? This must be outside of CT
tI's Massachusetts.
I think it comes from calling soda or pop, tonic.
Remember that at one time, soda was considered a health food.
sure, you get a tonic at a spa.
then there are different names for sandwiches: NY = heros CT = grinders, MA = subs
That was when it had cocaine in it.
I said that one already, but I forgot grinders.
I don't think Moxie ever had cocaine in it. :^)
coca-cola had cocain in it
Fireworks
Back to work now.
as a antique glass collector,i can tell you the term "pop" came from the type of bottles that it was packaged in up here just before the turn of the last century.they were made of heavy glass and had a small ramp up in the neck of the bottle which in turn held an actual marble.at bottling time this marble was forced by carbonation up into the top of the neck where it formed a seal against a rubber washer.children of the time would open these by ramming a pencil or stick down sharply against the top of the the marble braking the seal with a loud "pop" sound.these bottles are very collectable and commonly reffered to as "cod stoppers"....
morning everyone;)
and that is why this place in wonderful... you learn something new every day. That's pretty neat, cross
it is indeed;))
interesting crossy, thanks for enlightening us
they are very rare of course because the kids of the time, rather than turning them in for refund, used to break open the bottles to get the marble
Hi, all. So, Crossy, how many children choked on the marble?
crossy, is that the same as the asian drinks you can buy today? with the marble in the neck?
there are japanese sodas still sold with marbles in them like that, crossy
none, the glass ramp help the marble in place while you drank, plus the neck was a fracton smaller than the marble to form the inital seal
i have never seen them eva
looks like DC and i are on the same page. :)
and probably shop at the same chains of asian markets ;)
ill have to hunt one down, just for the fun of it
Wow. That's cool. Life before plastic and pull tabs.
http://tinyurl.com/38v2nlq
waay before plastic and pull tabs
i dont really sho pat asian markets, but i have seen the drinks at sushi places... i have had to have them pop the marble down for me, because i can never do it! lol
yes eva!! it was very similar
that's the brand i've seen at Grand Mart and Lotte
I'll have to look for those next time I go to a sushi joint. I don't drink soda, so I would never notice.
though the glass was much thicker and the marble came in a assortment of colours cobalt being much sought after
anyone have the re 6/18?
Hello...
What is the brand name? I can't see tinyurl from here.
hi, tim :)
and the lettering on the old ones was embossed
howdy tim
Whoops, it's jellen, didn't notice...
brb...
judi: Ramune is one brand name...
Hello...
funny though the bottle on the old ones were often made in England and shipped over by sailing ship
howdy jellen:))
Crossy, I collect bottles, mostly medicinal...
medicinals are fun to collect especially the tonics and hair restorers as well as poison bottles
especially the poison bottles in cobalt with the embossed warnings and saftey logos
Wow! You can buy Ramune soda from Amazon.com.
I have cobalt, but not poison cobalt...
the old glass hot water bottles are also fun to hunt down
as well as the glass fire extinguisher globes
Wow, you must have quite a collection!
very, very rare,as they were made to be broken
not anymore jellen, just a few special pieces i cannot part with.the rest went with the store
Store? Did you have an antique store?
a small one dealing mostly in collectable glassware and coins..i still have the coins;)
Cool! Tim and I were planning on opening a antique/collectible shop before Tim's health went south...
Still renovating the building...
want to make a coin dealer grovel at your feet? hold a Canadian 1921 specimen set of coins over his head lol
keep going on it jellen :)
lol
how is tim making out with the chemo?
Oh, I'm hogging the chat...
its ok,so am i;))
He didn't have it yesterday, platelet level was low...
speaking of coins, i just received my sixpence coin, which will be going in my shoe for the wedding. :) also have my "old" -- now just need to decide on my new, borrowed, and blue. blue may end up being my toenails. and im kinda opposed to using the dress as my "new" but i still have to decide. and i can borrow something from someone, im sure...heh
no, I'm very interested in this. I have an old milk bottle with the bump at the top for the cream
That worries me...hope he can tolerate the chemo...
make sure he wears a mask when he goes out
re 6/18?
yes bichon, that was a style many dairies of the time used
I had a blue garter, borrowed from a friend...
oh wow.. same people
well a mask is better jellen, but the garter will make him smile
we never leave kris
re6.18 - to **** your keep again
Blue toenails would be fun, though :-)
kris, you will tend to notice the same people around the same time. we are regulars. ;)
ty dc now all I need is the er 7
Hi, Kris
oh, i almost forgot! i ordered a feather hair flower... if that ever arrives, that can be my "new" :)
er7 is latin singular
Pretty, Eva...when is the date?
I cannot get re 8 -- I am sure it's simple -- yes???
nice, EvaN
jellen -- october 23. got some time, yet. :)
re8 is to give praise/recognition to again
re 6/33 with the re prefix
nice choice of date weather-
-wise, if you're marrying around here, EvaN
good morning, everyone
howdy jbv;)
Eva - do you have someone to lend you a piece of jewelry for the "borrowed"?
Hi, JBV
oh, for goodness' sakes -- THANK YOU!!
morning, jbv
Hi, Erda
hi crossy, stepping up my training, my son just informed me I can connect to Skype on his laptop so we can take the webcam around to other rooms - this is so much fun!
Hi Jellen
hi, erda
nice, jbv :)
yaa for jbv!!
for fireevents, any have the er 7?
and you know jbv, that many smart phones also support skype
er7 -- latin singular meaning mistake, esp in printing
Hi dcseain
Thanks, dc!
I've been seeing those phone commercials - looks amazing, but we don't have one (yet...)
ty dc and I am out of here
congrats, bichon and thanks for the er 7
ill be grabbing the i-phone 4 i believe
congrats, and be well, bichon
the only jewelry i am wearing a pair of earrings dear fiance gave me on our 1-year date-aversary. those are my "old" (not THAT old, i know!) i may borrow a garter from my friend.
I'm excited, downloaded a Christie mystery to read on my iPhone...
Yay, bichon!!!
they have advanced enough that i can get rid of the land line now
damn land line is 70 dollars and you get no extras..well it is outta here!
i dropped my landline a decade ago
DC -- thats why i picked it. late october can get rather chilly in our area, so im hoping we are lucky this year and it stays warm, so we can have the ceremony outdoors. :)
good savings, crossy, we still have one (connected to security system) but with no frills or extras - comes to about $30 a month, mostly fees
i pray for good sunny day for you eva
tail end of october here can be risky,i have seen it snow several time on halloween
it can be hit-and-miss here too, though not usually snow. i hope this year isnt the exception!
nbt
Is any1 having probliems with the TRs
I need help with re 8. What is the third letter please?
so far i have found more w,s than anything else
I have them if you need clues.

anyone have a clue for the ee 6?
creepier
creepy
More ee 5 :)
it is more than the other ee
(I'm at work but it's really quiet so...shhh...got my phone under the counter...)
lol
you plan on getting a new i-phone 4 nb?
on the contrary Crossy, I don't plan on getting anything new at all ;) I'm scarily broke at the moment!
ty
poor nb;( ill be getting a pair of them, one for myself and one for the wife, cause i can toss the land line at 70 per month and our current old pay-as-u-go cells at 15 each per month
NB wont need a schmancy phone once he moves to the states and lives on my couch. :)
lol
I need to write a tell-all memoir and make my fortune ;) that will work out a lot better, though - and plus, they're just SO cool. Also, apple has acknowledged the glitch, so they're fixing it for free now...I think
lol Eva! I assume that'd be after my trip to Korea...for someone so wonderfully skint I get around ;)
though the initial expense output will be 700 dollars, and the savings at start up will be about 30 dollars,so it will take...errr...about 2 years for them to pay for themselves:/
yes,you get a free bumbper with the phone now
bumper
Back again...
Hi, NB!
wb jellen
Hi, Jellen! :) Hmmm Crossy...better be careful with them ;)
man. drafting an email to the manager of our *hopefully* wedding band. i feel like we are emailing in circled + they are nickel-and-diming us. gotta get this figured out!! *grumble*
you kidding nb?? with a gps,a gyroscope,2 cameras,hd video,a reader and face to face phone calls? thing will be my life lol!
should of let me ask kim mitchell;)
<---pleased with self :-)
LOL Crossy! I regret that I cannot stop the screen of mine from cracking a little more every day...turns out there's no app for that.
how on earth did you break the screen?
Tim is lying in a recliner I picked out for him...It was delivered this morning...
the new screen is made from aircraft window material..i should be ok
ooh,nice gift jellen;))))
Much better than staying in bed all day...
it still works, it's just held on with electrical tape ;) as for how I broke it - long story!
falling off a table, NB? ;)
Your memoirs should be interesting, Nancy...you have lots of long stories...:-)
even more embarrassing, Eva ;) my lips are sealed!
Hmmm...'long story' is code for 'embarrassing story', Jellen ;)
I know :-))
that recliner sounds like a really good idea - lying in bed all day can get pretty depressing. Good thought!
rn
who would like to share in fireworks with me? just need ONE More clue - a W word - have not opened the list but i cannot get this last one
have 5 wa, 7 we, 2 wh, 3 wr
8 we's
ok, thanks Jellen, I'll keep looking
can anyone help please with te7
no worries, all. we will just slip him a drink or two, and the stories will be pouring out. ;)
8 we
it's a dog, rhonda
indeed, jellen, when i was having my chemo,i rarely used the bed at home, couch was easier or recliner for the many sudden dashes to the bathroom and reduces the chances of choking
I'm missing a we 5/20
As for my memoir...hmmm...I wouldn't want to shock anyone ;)
Oh, NB, the more shocking, the better!
lol,nb,you would be suprised at what us old fogies used to get up to
it's we 5/20 that you missed it jellen
Yes, ruru, it is! Thanks!
got it! fireworks! I missed the same one - we 5 !
<---- would never tell my secrets...lol
that's even we5 - er!
LOL. I've never been the best at making decisions.
yaa for jellen and jbv!!
Sounds intriguing Ruru ;)
TY for all the w clues.
w's whacked.
oh please. NB would *love* to spill his secrets!
i made the mistake of looking...18 w,s;((
lol Eva - I could never enter the chog with my head held high again ;)
why start now?
;)
nb,mistakes are just practicing at success
maybe yours were, Crossy ;) Eva...LOL! Ouch :P
Wise words, Crossy!
only time i ever got it right was when i got married
W's whacked here, too :-)
if all us elders started spilling secrets, you'd be more scandalized than you can imagine, NB
indeed
aww, i joke with love, dearest! (((huggles)))
yup
Too true, JBV!
remember nb,there is nothing new under the sun
aww, Crossy! Your wife is a lucky lady..
*rubs eyes* crossy admits marriage was a good idea?! its in writing! someone save a screen capture!!
or else, that just means MRS crossy is in the room and can see the monitor. ;)
I suppose you're right, JBV ;) I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours...lol
we have each in turn at one time saved each others life eva.what more could a person ask in life than the love of a mate who would lay down his or her life for the other?
she is here, but no she cannot see the monitor
same here, crossy, for better or worse and then some
hmmm, I envy you that, Crossy..
the only other thing i have heard crossy discuss with such devotion is bacon. :)
was a long hard road to get there nb
and we are still learning.i am sure we shall learn from each other till the end of our days:0
and NB, all I will say on that subject is that I was single until age 28 (in the 70's) - let's leave it at that
I got married the first time at a much too young 24.
i was 27 and the mrs 20 when we married
my mom was 22, and my dad was 19 -- turned 20 a week later. :)
next august will be 50 years for them. :)
I was 23, mixi...Too young!
second time at 50 is much better even after 10 years.
yaa for eva,s mom and dad!
Congrats to Eva's folks!
I was 31 and my husband was 38.
we were married in oct 93..our son was born feb 94..lol..had to hurry or we would of had to buy a new dress;))
Morning Babblers :)
anyone got a clue for the re 8?
they certainly have set an example and shown that love is not an emotion, but a choice of action. its not always easy (they almost divorced when i was younger) but it is the most rewarding decision you will ever make, if you are both committed to it and each other.
howdy nono
nope kris
We were married August 96 and first son born February 97 so I can relate!
Hi, Nono
re8 to give praise a second time kris
lol cbr
no kids, can't relate.
kris: to hand out a prize, again.
re8 - add re to one of your re6s
Me either, mixi...
You might be right there, Eva. My parents' marriage was actually arranged, and they're still together - for better or for worse!
ty eva.
ty eva
marriage is not always easy. It takes a lot of work form both parties
That is an understatement Nono!
understatement indeed!
thanks!
hubby and I would have been together 43 years this October. There were more than a few rocky moments
i read somewhere that (in america, anyway) arranged marriages have a higher success rate than non-arranged. and given the general american mindset, it makes sense. arranged marriages are more of a business contract, while non-arranged are based on emotion.
My longest relationship has been two and a half years - only managed half a year living together. Can't think in terms of decades ;)
NB your young yet you will find a lasting relationship
I'm just not very good at being on my own yet, that's all ;)
te 6/18 please...last one!
jeff... cute little dog!
you will know exactly when you have the right one nb.i am lucky as i can pinpoint the exact second when i discovered that i would not be able to live without her;))
and it's our 29th anniversay this August btw (as long as the chat is going for anniversaries lol)
oh, my bad, that's the te 7/28
the doggie is Mr. Winkle
I think you need to be able to live by and with yourself before you can really do a partnership.
what mix said
Well I don't know Crossy, I thought I did have the right one ;)
You are lucky NB...it took me over 20 years to find out I had the wrong one...
funny also how opposites attract,my mrs is a real people person not content unless she is interacting with another.i,on the other hand can drift along with my books,my hobbies and taking my pictures, and nature walks.i can honestly say i have not been bored since around 1994 lol!
!!!Fireworks!!!
totally unrelated to love + relationships, i just stumbled across this list: 10 great horror movies you probably missed wanna grab some popcorn and watch with me, NB? http://tinyurl.com/yc2dgtc
yaa for jellen!!!
lol,we all know nb loves a good horror flick:))
congrats jellen. i'm still working for NBT.
congrats jellen
morning all
Ooh, you know I do, Eva!! Let's see...
still need that lonely E for fireworks
Yeah Crossy, I love them, from behind the sofa ;)
not into horror movies
i still need that one too, nono
although loved the Shining
I think that one is the latin er
er7? help?
for error
er 7
if u liked the shining, what abt IT?
begins with error and ends with the begining of stomache
yes it is ruru! thanks
er + rodent + t**s (stomache med)
thanks ruru!
I loved The Shining; thought the acting in IT lacked a great deal - would love to see the remake of that, though, when it comes out
the best ones are the old vincent price/borris karloff creature features, you have to love the spooky music and the tension build up and when that slime covered hand suddenly reaches out from behind the door and grabs the heroine you jump so badly you spray the bowl of popcorn all over the livingroom;))
Hi, weiik
FIREWORKS !
yaa for non!!
<---with NB behind the couch
nono!!
Yay, nono!!!
ty Jellen. Fireworks.
I have 6 I cannot see
Although was, of course, scarred for life by Tim Curry as Pennywise...the other actors though, blaaah.
Tim loves horror movies....*shudder*
LOL Jellen. Step into my fort ;)
what you need ruru?
Like your icon, NB
i must watch from beneath a blanket, that i can pull up over my eyes when needed. and a hand to hold for when i get antsy.
I have ra 5, re 8, re4, re 6, re 5, re 6, and ri 4 missing?
hi jell, nb, IT the book, the moives characters were supposed to be children exploring, reminded me of my past fascination with sewers
re6 after ra5
re + **** a living
ahhh thank you two
I've gotta say, the book 'IT' is the only book that has ever scared me so much I couldn't sleep.
Thanks, Jellen! Thought it was a way of displaying my true colours, so to speak ;)
I need a t off of the t on the left.. are they all TA?
I love vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc. but clowns still freak me out.
7 ta's.
2 ta's
nb, I could not stop reading it ... I like scary things but not bloody things, plus old b and c movies from the '50s
tim curry is just great in everything. clue, rocky horror, it, legend...
I mean 7...
got it.
I was scared by poltergis(?) plz correct my spelling
its poltergeist weiik your were close
I have da 4,5,4,6,4, + dr 4, 6,4,5,4,4,5, and du 4 missing?
I really wanna see Poltergeist, but I think it'll freak me out. The Ring freaked me out - psychological thrillers tend to leave lasting damage, with me ;)
thxks nono,
I saw poultrygeist the one with the scary chicken
wings or thighs ruru
da4
your missing a da4 and 5 and dr4 and 6
da4,5,4,4,5,4,6
my favorite BAD horror movie: The Gingerdead Man. it was hilariously bad. :)
If you even made it through The Ring, you should definitely watch Poltergeist. It is a much better movie - and less scary, I think.
time to go meet my lunch date. poof.
I only made it through The Ring by looking at that kid and thinking, "well, in a fair fight, I could probably take her.."
someone clue the dr 6 that isn't bureau related?
The People Under the Stairs is another hilariously bad movie - the Evil Dead and Shaun of the Dead are good funny horror movies. And don't forget Zombieland!
think of the subject of the other meaning ofthat word, ruru.
Add a double vowel to the beginning of the first one.
of that...
Sorry - meant the end!
that's a dumb word.
gimme a break
thanks
I LOVE Shaun of the Dead. Many a moronic joke between my friends and I has come from that film - "oh christ, he's got an arm off!"
I need a clue for the da 6 please
simon peg can do no wrong. :)
I had to move the TV out of my room after The Ring. Wimp, wimp, wimp.
Add two vowels to the end of the da4/6.
thank you cbr
ok kids, lunchtime for me. will you be here for a while, NB?
I saw The Ring with my husband and he laughed all the way through it which kind of killed my fear. The way the kid moved freaked me out when I watched it on cable alone though. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, you will LOVE Zombieland!
Depends if it gets any busier, Eva - completely dead at the moment!
ok, i will be quick like a bunny! *dashes off to caf*
The visuals of The Ring got to me. The videotape is genuinely very, very freaky.
enjoy, Eva!
The visuals were the scary part for me too - especially the girl climbing out of the well - and the fly on the screen.
Urgh yeah, and when she coughs up that...thing...the horse scared me too. Probably because I'm scared of horses anyway. I liked the book, though; wasn't especially well-written (I think a lot got lost in translation) but it gave you a lot of background
and those little "flashes" of the ring, and the TVs flicking on, and, and, oh god, it's horrible!
I've now had my fill of Japanese horror movies with The Ring, the Grudge, both sequels, etc. so I think I will move on the better movies.
Did you see the original Japanese versions? Those turn you over...
I saw the original Ring (or maybe Grudge) but the others were all remakes.
I thought Let the Right One In was a really good subtitled movie too if you haven't seen it.
I still believe The Shining to be the perfect film, though. Just the music sets me on edge!
I love The Shining too. I am a movie and tv addict so have seen everything and have an opinion about it all!
cbr, if you've seen it all, what about the lathe of heaven, older from the early '70s, not scary, but, could it be true?
Since we started talking about scary films, it has been thundering...I'm scared!
nb, we had that last nignt, beautifuly display in the clouds from a distance, till it got here
I haven't seen that weiik but now I will track it down and let you know!
had been on PBS quite a few time, worth seeking out, about a therapist and a patient, with reactive dreams, odd how he manipulated the mans dreams to change the world, what he tried for usually backfired, makes you happy with what you've got, set way into the future, as '70s moives were, now that we are there, they forgot to include financial crisises
Sounds like Inception.
one more and I am stuck the last ta
I've yet to see that
Or maybe a cross between Inception and It's a Wonderful Life!
cbr, I can relate to that now, but, no one at my door with donations
my big lottery ticket would be a job
found it never mind
Just added it to my Netflix Queue.
cbr, I believe it to be only black and white
I love black and white movies. Looks like there was a 2002 remake of it as well.
My two favorite scary movies are both old ones. The Uninvited starring Ray Milland, and the original Haunting of Hill House. Both black and white.
when you see the remake let me know, I've only seen the original
a friend of mine owned the restaurant used in filming "The Blob" for years, quite a few people would come just for that reason ... downingtown PA
I thought Paranormal Activity was scary too - mostly because it seemed like such a normal life for much of the movie. I really liked both of those too, Gail.
I used to walk the stairs in DC used for the exorcist, they are very scary, but, the house is no where near them
I was going to watch the PBS version rather than the remake Weiik since it is rated highter.
ok, so i was slaw, like a rabbit missing its lucky foot... still here, NB?
cbr, put yourself in the mindset of "buck rogers" when you watch it
The Exorcist was very scary when it came out - not so much upon rewatch. The book was much scarier, I thought. Taking the kids to lunch so I will drop in later to see if anyone needs clues (or has other good movies for me to watch!)
Kind of, Eva ;) floating around. Thinking about what film to scare my flatmate with later...
bye cbr
I love scifi so no problem, weiik!
Our power went out last night and I had to miss most of Ghost Hunters, I was very upset.
was thinking of you while i was deciding on lunch. ended up getting the sushis, which is now done by a company that only does sustainable fishing and farming, and got the veggie roll. :)
um sushi
Ah, it would appear I radiate veganism ;)
hehe.... healthy eating, at least. but i have been trying to have at least one meat-free meal a day, even if its not vegan...
plus, the salads have turned me off, since finding a bug in mine the other day, and there really arent too many other healthy options in our caf!
eva, they say the bug is protein
i can get all the protein i need from my regular meat, thankyouverymuch. hehe
ewww! well eating an insect hardly fits into the vegetarian ethics :P although the thought isn't making me any less hungry. Hurry up, midnight, I wanna go home!
I spotted flies around the salad bar in the grocery store awhile ago, stopped that right away
this was the one time i grabbed a pre-made salad from the ready-to-go section of the caf. wont be making THAT mistake again!
I now purchase the bits and make the salad myself, after washing everything to my liking
Ach, better get back to work - about twenty people all came through the doors at once. See you later, all! ((Eva))
*snoggles*
*giggles* watching all the Old Spice Guy videos on youtube. too funny.
hey all, help with E next to the W pls
er 7/36
ok, is it a regular word, I will keep looking
a mistake in writing or printing, not a word I've used in conversation
ty, not seeing it but will keep looking
mistake + vowel + slang for stomach?
ty, amelu for the dummy clue
heehee! I try not to do that but *shrug* sometimes it just happens...
26 left and stuck, bbl
Hellooo...

howdy nruby
Hi, ruby!

hello jellen, how are you?
Good, ruby
Oops, hello Crossy and Ruby too. Babbling at work is not easy, I don't know how many people pull it off.

Doing okay
Hi Big Red
Lol. This is the only job I've ever had when I won't end up being one of the bosses. I don't see me managing a law firm any time soon.
Hi, locket
hello
great clue for the err7, tks amelu
Hi, big red
hi jellen
howdy big red
locket, aren't you from miami, ok?
did anybody see the sheep run into the peloton in the race today? It was the best moment. Just before the second big mountain
I am, big red
any clue for the 8?
Hey Jellen. We are Miami people. I was raised there.
re + re 6/33
to gift again re/8
that's where I lived before we moved to France! I loved Miami
thank you crossy, I wouldn't have believed it
I would love France! When did you leave Miami?
in '98
I miss the food and the beach in Miami and deep-sea fishing and sailing
Oh, cool! When did you leave, locket?
ruby, you lived in miami, oklahoma too? it think that's what locket is talking about
where do you live, locket? I lived at the Charter Club on 36th st
Locket & Jellen have Miami Oklahoma in common.
yo're kidding! I didn't know there was a Miami OK. No deep-sea fishing there, I guess, lol
Spoon-bill river fishing, lol
but I'll bet the food in YOUR Miami is better than the food here!
Yes. Miami Oklahoma. But lived close to Miami Florida for 6 months. Prefer the one in Oklahoma.
Spoon-bill fishing......done.....loved it!!
I've just watched it...
is the series Flashforward showing in the US now? It's wonderful sci/fi/thriller stuff
gotta get back to work, bye all. talk to you later Locket.
Bye, big red
Jellen, I left Miami Oklahoma in 67. After college.
Oh, I was born in '64... :-)
Go, go, NEO
Jellen, you are my daughter's age! But she was born in Bartlesville, Ok. Guess I left Miami in 63 not 67. Maybe I know your parents???
Charles and Kaki Neal
No, don't know them. Too bad. I still go to Miami to see my Mother.
My parents were older...they've passed now...
55 words and good night everybody
G'night, ruby!
Hello and good night ((ruby))

Bought a recliner for Tim...he's firmly ensconced in it...
this has been an unbelieveable July - like 15 days so far over 90 degrees this month
brb...
oh lucky Tim
Time to get back to work. Bye Jellen. Nice talking to you.

we finally got rain, a lot of it.
bye locket
More tomorrow. You alll have a nice day & evening.
Bye, locket
I cant imagine - do know what my friend went through though - heartbreaking

we had alot of rain in a 5 minute period
we are overdue for a nice bit of rain
ruby - where did you go?
my sister called
I'm off now, thank God!
OK - need any help with clues
yes, pls, any a's?
I got a text from my brother yesterday - he made it safely to Montana - road his motorcycle out there from New Hampshire - staying a week and riding back home
my niece in London's breast surgery went very well and she's home already! So there's some good news
ar + wedding cake layer is a ****
aw4 = a + short word for little
that is too funny about your brother; it's hard to imagine going that far and staying just one week
Good, indeed, ruby!
ty and haha for the aw4!
sometimes just the journey itself is the thing
oh good for her ruby
ty jellen
only 19 left -- you'd think it was doable, but it isn't!
thats a tiring journey but he loved the ride - went up into Canada and across. Planning on coming back through the US
yes it is ruby

this puzzle suits you ruby with your interests in the arts
that reminds me of my meme - she had many minous
and my ri**y life-style, raofl!
19 left and I give up. At least the a's gave me nbt
I wish I knew what you needed
meme? I just saw that word for the first time the other day
here they call grandmothers mamie

if you can catch a little of the Tour, a highlight was when sheep ran out into the riders!

and when Lance spoke to Sarkozy like they are old friends
I have seen him watch it - hadnt heard about that though
Back later...
bye jellen

It is on my Bucket List to visit the east coast and my husband and I decided that next summer would be the time. We have an ancient van.

I plan to meet some west coast Babblers and I am so looking forward to it.
I wonder what they will sound like.

Yawn hi
Sometimes I just like to see how far I can go.
Hi, herin!
Hello.
Jellen thank you for reminding me something important.
You're welcome! What?
I donated blood yesterday and I was wondering what Platelet donation was. Your story reminded me to look into it
You are a good person, herin...
Jellen. For me to donate blood takes 30min. I fill their pint thing in 6 min
Herin, I have done it - it is called apherisis, I think.
Hi, cbr
They put a catheter in one arm and take out your blood and attach it to a machine and take out the platelets and then use another catheter to put the blood (minus platelets) back in. It was years ago, but that's what I remember. I also fill the bags really fast and have really heavy iron in my blood.
Thanks CBR. I didn't donate for 6mths the last lady left a bruise and a half. This time nothing.
Good Evening - just passing through - how is everyone?
Hi, River...doing well...
Just tell them that you have small veins or veins that roll and ask for the top phlebotomist. I used to have a similar problem because I gave so often. Hi Jellen!
how is Tim loving that new recliner?
Spending lots of time in it, River!
awesome
Recliner is good?
Yes, it is! Bought one for Tim...
Listening to a lecture online...
Yah. My Aunt and Uncle had them in their old house. very very comfy
watching so you think you can dance from last night
O that reminds me. Hold that thought
I have an old recliner from my Dad - when I cant sleep in bed I come down and crash in it - Mom gave it to me after Dad passed 9 years ago - love it
*holding breath - hurry*
There was a thing on Yahoo about free online HDtv in teh states
oh she said thought - phew...

may I have a clue for re6/18 pls
They are genetic mutations that have been bred together to keep that mutation going it is wrong.
ooooh...sorry...was away for a bit...on a chat that seems to be going downhill quick with an old highschool friend. :S
eh. could be far worse. they don't have nearly the health issues that a lot of dog breeds have.
I feel sorry for the person that had to give up teh kitty
re 6/18 = re+work for something
The RSPCA have finally decided to do something about puppy farms
I love babble chat I always learn something new every time I log on

wr 5/18 word is wr plus a comparative ending Magyk
Hi MIn
must go get some sleep Congrats to all finishers see you all tomorrow. Good luck to all. Bye.
I'll just do that for all of them :)
JEss the RSPCA have known of the issues of puppy farms and now they do something about it. Pisses me off as Animal lib have been doing a better job
w's washed up
Goodbye sixty7stang13! I'll see you tomorrow maybe.
Wonderful jesdraggon!
well, in their defense, it's not like it's an easy sort of thing to regulate, lady.
T's Toppled! 3 left
Um Jess they went to a farm and allowed 60 animals to be slaughtered
go, go, go, Min! :)
Jess you are a good fur mummy
i don't know the details of what you're referring to, lady, so this is totally pulling stuff out of the air... but "they" who? and how is the RSPCA supposed to actually do anything? at least in the US, the ASPCA is basically a political lobby, not actually shelters or any sort of enforcement.
as for slaughter... if they are humanely slaughtered, there's no illegality in it; numbers don't change that, though they make a potentially gruesome headline
and regulating puppy mills is complicated--you can limit how many animals a person is allowed to own, but you can also run a puppy mill with 1 male and 1 or 2 female dogs, so limiting to, say, 4 or 5 adult dogs doesn't actually stop people breeding poor quality dogs in bad conditions.
Ok. the RSPCA was aware that this puppy farm had horrid conditions. They have the powers to um take the animals. They didn't. This ahole then proceeded to rehouse the dogs at another puppy farmer then they shot them at about 1am
and it DOES put a lot of stress on reputable breeders who are trying to make a living breeding quality dogs, or who have a show kennel.
well, at least in the US, confiscating animals is usually a pretty big deal, involving cooperation between a shelter and the local law enforcement, and also requiring a place to put the animals when you take them--and that can be a real bugger. what is a humane society that normally runs at pretty full gonna do with 60 new dogs all at once?
er7?
takes a lot of planning and preparation, not just a matter of "go take them"--otherwise the "rescue" just moves them to other crappy conditions.
Well the thing is it isn't just that one shelter. There is arms that would take them.
they also need to make sure any confiscated dogs are moved to a location that the owner can't get them back.
and then they have to hold them while the owner takes them to court trying to get them back.
The RSPCA has the power to confiscate with out charges of theft. Then there is other organisations that take them and vet check them. It was really sad
because it is pretty much inevitable that they will get sued over something like that
i'm not saying they shouldn't try to help where they can; i'm just saying that it is never a simple situation.
RSPCA have powers like police. Animal lib dont
O and do you know how amusing it is to have a semi deaf cat
hell, even sheriff's departments have ended up being sued over animal possession in neglect cases--and they have to hold those dogs the entire time the case is in court, because if they adopt them out, and the judge rules against them, they'd have to go get them back.
and i'm not familiar with the laws down there, but here, gunshot is a legal method of euthanasia (as long as they do it right)
anyone have a clue for er7? it's my last one!!
Mag I was not ignoring you. I don't have it
One of my cats burped or farted thus freaking out the other cat on the other cat pillow. Both are trying to work out what the hell that sound was and looking very snarky at each other.
i don't, magyk, sorry--it's my last word too!
ok thanks...I'll keep monkeyin around
Looking now
it's the singular form of a common way of saying multiple mistakes....same ending as the singular form of pieces of information used in research

Hello dicktrickle! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
i'm good....how are you?
I feel like an idiot...I still can't get it
er 7 is a mistake in printing. The end of the word is a singular for a popular antacid brand in the US used in a da5.
I am well.I see you are a fellow New Yorker.Where in New York do you live? I live in Dutchess County, New York in a town called Poughquag, near Poughkeepsie.
Hi cbr1965! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!

Congratulations Magyk on fireworks! Hooray for you
Magyk,I feel more stupid than you, I still can't get it!
Never mind! I just found the er7/36 word. Thank you
oh Min, you aren't stupid at all. It took me forever. Think to make a mistake + picture *lbum + for heartburn I take ***s
reading back on the puppy mill issues, not so prevelant here but we are dealing with a cat population explosion.we have 450 cats over and above what our shelter can hold, but we were lucky, a person had a old house due for demolition soon, but it still had full heat and hydro,so he donated it to the the shelter and it has been used to house all the extra cats till they can be adopted lol, they have 2 full bathrooms including tubs and showers for their exclusive use and 5 cat jungle gyms and couches and chairs, there is a volunteer team that takes turns for the daily needs and clean up.they have free run of the house excluding the basement
forever and always...go sox

Hi Min - let's see, think of a special time in history and double the consonant then add i have a ***myache". Does that get it?

I've been wanting for sometime to open a no kill animal shelter. they are basically unheard of here.
but the logistics hard...there are 80 litter boxes that must be changed every 3 days max

you use what is donated
See that is super cool that people want to help
i think it is ready to go under 300,so it is getting better
I think i need more cookies
mmm..cookies...
I am done! I have fireworks!da5/16 was my last word
where is "here", magyk?
yaa for min!!!
yay minver!
and we are in the middle of a kitty foster parent program which should help
My kids used to have birthday parties that, instead of presents, asked for things to donate to the shelters. We got all kinds of checks, dog beds, cat beds, food, toys, etc. that we donated. People were really generous when it helped animals and it meant much more to the kids to help the animals than to add more junk to their rooms!
good idea cbr!!
I'll be here off and on to help with clues if still needed
CBR that is a really brilliant idea. Loves MIni
My friends daughter was concerned that her home made album for her friends 21st would not be enough or appropriate. I told her that it was a really sweet idea.
midwest...there are 2 that i know of in indiana
Something thoughtful is so much more appreciated than more junk. I just think the lesson of helping others is a good one for the kids, especially mine who lead pretty charmed lives.
The beginning of my previous comment was directed to yours, herin. I love that idea and I know her friends will too. It will mean much more down the road and is more than enough.
g'night all
g'night, magyk
May I please have a clue for re8-65? Thanks.

hi all
Jilly my friend had a little bowl of boiling water heating up baby bottle. 6mth old grabbed the table cloth and pulled when she sat up. She has burns down her front. Lucky mum did the smart thing and dunked her in water and called the ambulance. Lucky that the baby was wearing a cloth nappy too
ouch!
OMG, how awful. Poor baby. Poor mum too, she must be beside herself, she sure did the right thing though. Will keep them in my thoughts and prayers
She did the right thing. I think mum is not used to having a 6mth old being so squirmy
It's tough with kids, they do things you NEVER expect them to!
She didn't expect her to pull her self up.
especially tough right each time they learn a new skill like sitting up or rolling over
well *eyes blinking* gonna have to give it up for tonight. 20 left but have an early day. Have a good one everyone!
Night Jill.

hi Jam...need help?
er 7/36 er + big rodent + medicine you take to sothe a sore stomach
hi weiik
hi pini
off to sleep nite all
sleep well ;)
how you play this shit
start with the HELP icon above the chat log...
it's like Boggle (find words using connecting letters in consecutive order)
thank you lol
yvw
the flip will occur in approximately 10 minutes (the grid flips once daily at the same time giving you a full 24 hours to find all the words in the grid)
Just know, this one will disappear and a new puzzle will load in 11 minutes so this one might be good for practice.
hi cbr
ok
hard
Hi Pinikula - I am just waiting for the new one. I am going to guess it will be big - 250 maybe? This was a pretty easy one.
Lickety provides a list of "clues" (the first 2 letters of each word, the letter count, and the word's point value); see Lickety's Babble Clues underneath Friend of Babble (near the bottom of the page)
for a small one, this really wasn't too bad...250 sounds good to me
ok thanks again
tear
Aaron, it isn't that hard once you get the hang og it. There are a lot of unusable letters in this one. The tile stats underneath tell you how many words come off each letter in the grid.
*of
when you get really lost and/or have extreme difficulty "seeing" a word, you'll see people ask for clues like: er7/36 plz? a clue in the chog might be: er7 = latin mistake
(gosh, aren't we a wealth of info)
yea
Today was the first time in a long time I haven't had to ask for help. It would be really hard without Lickety too!
People rarely don't look for clues in the chat log, though. They look in the live chat.
- don't
You'll see a lot of "call outs" in the first hour after the grid flips...players will be calling out words they find (like er7, dr6 x 2, etc)..."detailed" clues are normally held off for the first hour so players can find words on their own
I can remember mining the chat log years ago!
sorry, grem...I thought the CHOG was the live chat...if it's not, my mistake :)
