was pretty good...yours?
nice; still pretty humid here... would love a break weather wise
flosey, I've posted a writeup now.
we had our 43rd day of 90+F. Humidity was only about 80% though, so a nice day nonetheless.
hi dee (just came up for air)
Lovely weather here -- high 70s, low humidity. Had another swim in the sea.
:~)
sounds familiar dc
I'm not going to bother with this if there's no Lickety -- too much to do tomorrow and I want to savour this weather.
hi dee hi.

Uh-oh, Hamas is in the grid, Hiding Among Mosques And Schools

lol
hi lynxx! glasses? I thought you were a kid (like me! lol)
whoot! that's me done also!!!
Hooray for Rose!!
sandy! did you watch the "funeral procession" yesterday?
yay rose!
hi Ruby, must be a kid too, think we are a similar age
hahah
Ruby I did but I enjoyed it . lots of great cameraderie and fun
look at my icon!
you would think that Andy might have gone for a breakaway? that would have added a lot of drama
what did you think of Lance's jersey "statement"? As he said to the announcer at the end, "I think we got more publicity by breaking the rule and having them make such a big deal, than we would have gotten if they had just let it go!"
I looked at your icon. Yes, I agree, Alberto is a great rider and I thought Andy was too limp and dull
I thought it was great! I was disappointed they made them change. It wouldn't have hurt to let them wear the jerseys
now what do we do with out free time?
Al did have a really strong lot of domestiques around him
the world championships of road racing are in Australia this year so I will look forward to that
at least they wore them on the podium! Did you watch Sarkosy's speech on Thursday? He said a lot of good things about Lance and the Announcer who has cancer. It was a very touching and nice off-the-cuff speech. I wish Obama was that articulate!!!!
what are domestiques?
Obama not articulate? An interesting viewpoint.
I thought Vino might do a sneaky run for it but he only wanted his one-stage victory for vindication, I think, and durned out to be a good teammate for Alberto
morning Haz
Actually, I am only up to the third circuit on the champs d'eelyse deleeesee delese ???
Hello!
I think Obama is a great disappointment for a lot of us. He is arrogant and talks down. Just because he went to Harvard, doesn't make him smart! And I am a life-long Democrat!
Domestiques are his team that help him win by getting his food and drinks, leading out on sprints and leading out on the long runs ie the rest of his racing team
You still can't say that he is not articulate.
I don't know how to spell it either and I live hre! No, the speech was on Thrusday, after the stage
what are domestiques?
I like Obama, did not like Bush at all
TY
Champs Elysees.
he is only articulate when it is scripted. On his own, like on the shore of Louisiana, he says "folks" and "gonna" and "gotta". AAargh!
I detested Bush but at least there was never any pretense of his being smart.
Ha Haz! is that it!! thanks
I tried to write it in an e-mail to my son and could spell it
I dont think many people the world over liked Bush
Make up your mind, ruby. One minute you criticise hijm for talking down, the next you're criticising him for not talking down.
When he's scripted he talks down; when he is trying to just talk, he slips into an unacceptable (for a president) vernacular.
BBS must wash some pots - I hate washing dishes!
Bush was definitely a disaster. This one is so cautious, he just doesn't do anything. I wish either his wife or Hillary was president
Michelle is much smarter
I think Hillary would be a good president - I did like Clinton
but I do like Obama
and Hillary seems to have been put in a box. I think Biden is the best of the lot!
Lynxx, I hate washing dishes too , the dishwasher in the shed has broken down - it's a living hell washing up by hand
I liked Clinton, also. I don't care what anybody says about his personal life; I think he had a good heart and has done some wonderful things for 3rd world people
helllllo
ya, ata! haven't seen you for ages!
hi Ata
Hello, Ata.
how is your leg?
been painting :)
you are often in the grid and in our thoughts!
hurting, like normal :P but ok :D
been having a bit of a mad week trying to get paintings done for an exhibition which is rather soon!
are any of your paintings on FB?
there's some on www.marquista.com, though I must must upload more recent things!
I'll loke in a little while
or even look
did you watch Sherlock last night Haz?
No, was it good?
fantastic ata, wonderful you clever girl
remarkably good!
is there a series of 'sherlock' happening over there?
TY sandy :D
I think it's a series of 3 programmes, Sandy, SHerlock Holmes meets the 21st century
I should make a point of watching it. Is each episode stand-alone?
I will be watching it when we get it
I wonder if it will come to Fr
I love morse, sherlock, midsommer murders, agatha, etc
I'm not sure, Haz. It really was very cleverly done though. And written / directed by one o fthe Dr Who writers :)
there was a bizarre one about Jack the Ripper the other night with Johnny Depp[ and Robbie Coltrane and Ian Holm
I'd seen it in the listings, can't honestly remember what I watched/was doing instead.
From Hell? That's scary!!
it may have been called Into Hell, but I'm not sure as I didn't see the English title
and star trek - Ata it is my ambition to do a painting of a wormhole
or go through a wormhole!
ruby, I love stories about Jack too
oooo that would be fun sandy
It was scary but I love Johnny Depp and learned that using opium was "chasing the dragon". Didn't know that before
I knew that, but I might add, I have never chased it
this was very gory but interesting, too. Husband couldn't bear to watch
I didn't think so, sandy! hahah
Back in the 60's I had a girlfriend who tried opium once and burned off her eyebrows and eyelashes! that was her only foray into the "dark world"
I have to start lurking, or I will never finish - have 85 left
lol!
I haven't reached half, but I don't care. This is an interesting chat and a nice grid!
I havent even started yet :)
Vollee has just posted a list in her profile ata
I thought of you the other day Haz when I was on the train up to London and the LED board thing spelled "Immediately" as "Immediatelly"
Did you speak to someone in authority?
not yet, but I am going to email them!
that's a little like cake disasters -- non-English-speakers trying to write English
I did however tell a local restaurant that coulis was spelled coulis not "coolly"
Excellent!
but did it have a pointed hat?
I saw the vole-vounts again.
lol, I hate those boards with mistakes, I have to tell them too
yum, haz!
they always have amusing mistakes in their menus. the last one was the dessert of chocolate mouse
hard enough to spell English, let alone French food!
did it have a little tail?
Canopies instead of canapes?
have to go and feed nags and get food for dinner - blaaaaa, I want to laze about and do this-
awnings over the plate?
I shall return
I'm not even dressed yes, but too bad!!!!
the chocolate mouse was very tasty though :D
did it squeak when you bit it? eeeew
nooo it looked suspiciously mousse like
Hello Ata! how lovely of you to pop in, I'll put the kettle on
I like the idea of foods looking like other things, e.g. the Japanese making fish look like flowers in Kansei dinners. An excellent way to feed a recalcitrant toddler
hi lyn! hi stew!
I like the fish shaped soy suace bottles
me, too, in take-out sushi!
yep!
tarsi
I don't! they are worst litter items than cigarette butts nowadays - everyone tosses them
whoops, sorry
did Lynxx put the kettle on in the PB
there goes my English again
I'm surprised they are so common. I've only seen them twice here and put them in with plastic for recycling!
my husband's pet peeve is gum wrappers in our road.
they are everywhere here too, but thats peoples faults, not the poor innocent fishies :P
and cigarette butts
and herons
hahah no problems since we put in "sally's nets"! The fish are breeding like crazy!!
so are the French giving up smoking like the rest of the world Ruby?
the Spanish certainly aren't
I don't know, but the women are a lot fatter than they were 20 years ago, that's for sure!
and they've banned it in bars and restaurants, so that's a blessing, not having to walk through a smoky cloud!
morning all
I had better get dressed!
morning Sprite!
hallo sprite!!!
spritey!!
did you go canoeing and picknicking with your husband?
[sp???]
yes we did and we had a marvelous day
that is lovely!
*poof* and not quite half
how are youdoing, lyn and Ata and rubyfoo?
tired but happy :)
sprite, hello, I'm here as well but just about to leave.
Very well, the sun has been out the last 2 days, makes everything seem so much better
that sounds great, Ata :)
tired and happy and not too achy Ata?
hi Haz, nevertheless glad to have your company, however short
Well, enjoy the grid, I'll be back later. Bye for now.
lyn, I understand that so well :) Having the sun out makes a big difference.
bye Haz
bye Haz
not toooo achy, though I did manage to freak myself out a bit this morning when I put all my weight on my bad leg and it just gave way. But I know that's to be expected for a good while, it's just a bit scary realising how badly you did hurt yourself!
bye dear!
knees are such complicated joints, Ata ;(
did you manage to stay up or did you fall? Hope not!
I'm missing an 8; I have at, er, et, he ma, mi (2), and WA.
crazy how such a small slip can have such dire consequences
oh, stay up fine. just grabbed the nearest surface. It doesn't give way *that* badly anymore. Thank goodness!
hello Christine, I have none yet, just started
well done Christine, I have zero
that is a good sign of progress, Ata!
but my physio and dr keep saying it's doing as well as could ever be expected, I just get impatient!
you, Ata, impatient? Never.
:P
Well I think I'll get a cuppa, and read for a while, then sneak-up on the grid; perhaps the other 8 will jump at e.
or even at me ...
or maybe by that time one of us has found the missing one. Have fun Christine.
Back soon.
I want to use that lower right corner ending so much.
I should pop off too, pup wants a walk :) back soon!
enjoy, Ata :)
me too, that and ish - trying it on everything - not working!
yes that one too!
bye Ata, bye Hobbit - don't walk her too fast
I have one for your ending, lyn, if you want a clue
Local television is showing a program on Pancho Barnes, a pioneer womn in flying; she tested planes for Boeing, and participated in the first Powder Puff Derby.
no thanks Sprite
sounds interesting, Christine. Shall I make it into an icon theme?
Oh, I don't know about that, but she showed little girls they too could grow up to fly planes, and I think that's pretty great.
but I did just find the e8, is that the one Sprite?
it certainly is
not the one I have, lyn
mmmm back to the drawing board
hehehe but now you have an 8... I am not that far!
Christine, I will make it into a theme, just googled and there is more than enough info and pics on her. Very interesting.
aviatrix?
september 8, unless something date related comes up
ah found that e8, thanks lyn. Too bad it doesn't work with the other ending!
christine aw 8
or with the a on the front
H Sprite?
forget that
oh good one! Thanks.
now I am happy, having at least one word for each ending.
Sprite, she led such a fascinating life, moneyed, landed family, made a 'good marriage' but was so unhappy, then she started flying - she's my new heroine. She organized the union so stunt flyers were protected, and - well, you'd need to read the book about her.
sounds like a marvelous lady! Far ahead of her time.
BBL show I want to look at is on
bfn lyn :)
I love all the bee pictures - along with firemen, and sax players, these are among my favourite things. (after DD, of course).
wow, those are also good themes! Am stealing them right away, Christine.
I just know that jillibus is going to LOVE the theme about Pancho Barnes. If I were a betting person, I would bet she is going to read the book.
Christine, what is DD? Dungeons and Dragons?
Usedto tell my former husband, if he'd been a sax-playing firemanof Italian heritage, who kept bees, there's a chance we'd make a go of things --- if he'd not eanted a divorce to marry someone else.
DD is dear daughter.
lol! Wonderful thing to say to him. And aw, DD :) That is sweet.
fireflies. Very nice grid! Bye all, have fun.

Annie, do a lot of people use the "cooling stations" in NYC and Brooklyn? Can they stay as long as they like?
too funny
i'm stuck on that one too; let me save you the bother of typing etherism which i've done a squillion times
me too, gort LOL
Une, From what they say on the news they have come as a lifesaver for many and I believe they can stay as long as they want.
move the 2 center letters to the front gort
Une, NYC and Brooklyn really aren't two different places
can't imagine having no AC in this ongoing extreme heat :-(
Hi BIchon
ok, Manhattan and Brooklyn
ahhh, thanks lynx, you always come thru 4 me!
Hi everyone
hi Bichon
lynxx, it's an er word right?
er + **** is my Country ( patriotic song), vowel, plural letter
hello gort -- darn telephone!!!!
yes Bichon
hey ruby
Hi Gort
screwed up the clue again...er, then a vowel
getting late, time to hit the sack? hay? bucket? some sort of farm equipment that's enigmatically related to sleep; nighty nigh

Goodnight Gort. I'm off to bed too, bye all
I am so confused!!!!
{{lynxxx}}

Hi Perri
yay!! ty annie
A big air conditioned place, like a school, where the public an come to get cooled off
hi peri, airconditioned places where people can go who do not have AC
oh, ok
where people who have no AC can go to get cool, drink water, have a snack, etc.
like senior centerse and libraries, I see
ruby, so glad you got it
some of the churches are doing that here
yes, peri
did everybody google jmc's article?
no, what do I google?
noooo . . . what's the url??
it was a struggle, annie, dumb ruby!
I did google/pleas by conscientious objectors
et, voila!
she is famous!
ruby, NOT dumb at all, that word was tough
the Tardis is here today
I am starting to have ripe tomatoes from my little "potager"
hello science, how are you?
going to google it now..be back later
i am ok
OVER LASSSSSSS
Under Lass!
?? herin ??
yes.
here's the url: http://tinyurl.com/2edttbg
I was talking to SG
you are too funny, I feel like a non-English speaker
ruby, congrats on les tomates!
Ruby, Aussies are Under Lasses and Lads to me since I am in the US.....
one of my mom's caregivers gave me a big bag of tomatoes and baby eggplants from her garden -- yum!!!
that's a riot!
I suppose you would be a Side Lass LOL
nice sort of small accomplishment for a city girl
baby eggplants! I forgot about eggplant this year (as DH does grocery shopping); time to make ratatouille
and you're an uber lass
LOVE eggplant and LOVE ratatouille
I tried growing it the first year and although the plants were lovely and flowered, I got fewer than 3
Clue please for tr 7/48
soon the blackberries will be ripe and there'll be a second round of raspberries
I love my garden!!!!
am including eggplant in my veggie lasagna I'm serving at my friend's bday lunch next week :-)
dont ahve gran
oohhh, those sound wonderful, ruby!
great idea! have you ever made moussaka?
tri + rick****
tr7: 3 prefix + in Asia some folks ride in a rick****
I made another clafouti today with last week's cherries; it's a great way to use up cherries that have gone soft
ruby, we used to have the most delicious moussaka on the Left Bank in my student days . . . sigh :-)
Thanks and finished
and it makes me feel like a real cook. Unfortunately, I didn't put the blender top on tightly and got flour all over the wall
ooohhh, my ex-MIL used to make delish clafouti -- neighbor had a cherry tree and . . . well, she helped herself LOL
it's a lot of work and hard to find ground lamb (harder to grind it yourself!!!)
Yah Gran
it is really easy and nourishing, to boot
ruby, that reminds of my mom telling me about making applesauce in my grandmother's kitchen -- she didn't put the top of the pressure cooker on tight enough and BOOM!
congrats, gran
hi, babblers - you're making me hungry!
bbl
hahah, my mother did that once with spinach and a pressure cooker
that happened to me once cooking lentils, une - yuk
the clafouti is still warm, c'mon over!
eewww LOL!!!
j'arrive, ruby!!!!
ruby, did I catch the tail end of the chat yesterday where you said you were from Queens? me too - grew up in Astoria
j'attends!
:-D
I grew up in Queens Village (way east) and went to Martin Van Buren HS and Queens College
are you Greek? Astoria has great restaurants!
no, Italian, ruby, but yes I lived in the heart of the Greek community- great place
did you know that Queens county has more languages spoken than any other county in the US?
haven't lived in queens since 1979 but my heart is there
something like 137!
yes, actually, I know that, ruby, my career has been in the field of ESL (English as a Second Language)and bilingual education :)
I left when I got married
that's amazing, ruby
something tells me getting up in the AM is going to be a pain in the arse
no kidding
hard to find an English-speaker in Jackson Heights, but I haven't been back in years
my daughter went to a public high school here in Nashville where 38 nationalities were represented but you've definitely got THAT beat! LOL
and Flushing is totally oriental
my mom lived on 90 st. in jackson heights after they sold the Astoria house
when I lived in Queens, it was much more limited: my neighborhood was Irish, Italian and Jewish, now it's black, Indian and Chinese
I found a facebook site for my old neighborhood, but only knew one person
it was called growing up in Queen Village. Everybody remembered my father's candy store, though
when did you learn French ruby - in school? or when you moved to France?
ruby, that's so cool!
that's cool - nothing like the neighborhood candy store to call up memories
did your dad have an old-fashioned "penny candy" store?
ruby's lost in memories of penny candy
:-D
whew! got my internet up an running again
did i miss any good stories?
hi jmc - are you still in Africa?
one of my fondest memories: we would ride our bikes to the drugstore on the square on Saturdays, buy a Coke and a little bag of Fritoes, and spend HOURS reading their magazines! LOL
jmc, your NYT article is wonderful -- what a celebrity you are!!!
yes jbv i am
we're reminiscing about our old neighborhoods in Queens
glad you liked it
and Tennessee small town :-)
yes, we read your story - very interesting problem
JM post the link again I was stuffing aobut trying to find the 9
hmmm wonder if my homogeneous old neighborhood in Houston compares
We were allowed to walk to the candy store [about 1 block] at recess. This was the 50's. Never happen now
http://tinyurl.com/2edttbg
I grew up in Rockaway, part of Queens
I had to go and get a "fish feeding lesson" from my husband.
di 7?
bichon, our candy store was across the street from our elementary school and was "off limits" (yeah, right!)
how are his fish doing?
my sister and I used to take the railroad to Rockaway when I was around 10, just after the polio vaccine came out
We did a lot of things in the 50's that would be vorboten today
he has 100's again and feeds them a huge amount.
totally, bichon!!
I loved growing up at the beach
I used to walk to Astoria Park, which involved crossing the Triboro Bridge traffic (over the elevated subway) - age 10!
i can imagine . . .
we rode our bikes all over town . . .
ok, French: 2 yrs in jr high, 2 yrs in high school and 2 yrs in college. But I really didn't start speaking until 1964, my first time in France with my baby
INteresting article JM
I want to work in your office
ty herin
di 7?
don't have it, bichon, sorry
come on over (but I probably can only get you a short term visa)
Brethren Volunteer Service is the source of many of my interns and they get them from around the world
First the qualifications
you walked across the Triboro Bridge, OMG!!!! that is too scary
qualifications?
I want to get my law degree
no, ruby, not across the bridge, but the EL station that crossed the bridge plaza - :)
oh, just read it again, crossed OVER it! phew!
there's a walkway
oh okay -- not needed to work for me but i totally understand
denigrate: di* + the pay scale shows the **** of pay you are entitled to
BR!!!!
hards
hi BR!
how did you come to teaching esl, jbv
but imagine sending a 10-yr-old into a subway station to cross the street -
Hello, Une
ty BR
BR hellol..
yikes!!!
hello BR
and everyone
Jm Getting the paper means i get teh money as I am not interested in being a coffee runner
funny, ruby, I prepared to be a French teacher - no jobs (in 1971) so I was offered ESL and that was that
very scary!
snuggles BR long time no see
Good morning/afternoon all.
I majored in French, Spanish and English at Hunter College
hi Haz
Hello, Haz
i did my time as a coffee runner so i totally agree
howdy, haz!
JBV, I went to Queens College and majored in Sociology
it is a great thing to be doing, really important, more than teaching French, I think
now i have men running for coffee for me! lol;
hi haz
when did you graduate, bichon?
JM I mean Legal admin secretary. Not something I want to do
I just retired, ruby, had a great career - loved it
Hello!
I was an art major there
hi Haz, Herin, BR
hi haz
and my first husband taught history
I was a proof reader and then a paralegal before i went to law school
Ruby, I graduated in '68
this is like 6 degrees of separation
Morning all
I graduated in '63, pretty close
I lived in Israel for a year after that and then returned to NYC where I was a casework at the Bureau of Child Welfare
better not start listing names of husbands and exes
hey, mr. bob
Paralegal I think is different here
hi bob
I graduated from college in '71
Bichon how did you do that job without going mad?
HI Bob
could be
I only worked there from ''69 to '72 and then we moved to CT.
<===graduated college in 1973
I wasn't even born then :D
graduated, French major, '69 . . .
oh, shut up, herin LOL!!!
when my husband and I were courting, he told me about his college girl frield who turned out to be a close friend and colleague of my 1st husband and who had even been in my house. When I told husband no.1 about it, he said "So?"
Une, one of my favorite French professors was from Aix-en-Provence -is that where your family is from?
:-P somebody has to be the youngest in the crowd!
ruby!! that's amazing!
JBV, that's where my ex's family is from :-)
but you def sound mature for your age!!!
most people would rather not know all those background details
I can be as old and grumpy as the next person though
I'm from a little town in Tennessee . . . but I escaped LOL!!
and you're probably tall, too lol
Ruby was that at me?
probably shot a bear when she was only 3
if you watch "Last Chance Highway," they're based in my hometown
jmc LOL!!!
aix-en-provence is beautiful, not like aix-les-bains near here!
my brother definitely had a coonskin cap!
yes, herin, you sound both mature and tall!
haven't been back in a very long time, ruby . . .
davy davy crockett , king of the wild frontier!!!!!
born on a mountaintop in Tennessee
awww Thanks Ruby. Yes I am tall about 5 10
born on a mountaintop in Tennessee....
ah, the inimitable Fess Parker
so did my sister -- as an adult I have some to dislike davy crockett for the mercenary drunk cheat that he was
ruby, remember the '64 world's fair - I picked up a french pen pal there that I corresponded with (in French!) for about 4 years - she lived in Pau
snap, ruby! LOL
but fess parker i admired
greenest state in the land of the free
I went to that, in Flushing Meadow Park
Never thought a woman from a little town in Tennessee would be sporting an afro
son was a baby, right before we came to Paris
oh, BR, it was the '60s!!
I couldn't remember the adjective....
once I left town, I LEFT!
if the phone rings one more time for my husband, I'm going to scream! He refuses to pick up the phone!
let it ring
then let it ring and he misses the call
they showed Pau on the Tour de France and it looked beautiful
I've never been in the Pyrenees
do you still have family in TN?
end of the sixties I was getting ready to do 1 2 3 4 what are you fighting for
yes, my mom and brother
aren't they in spain? (typical american shows geographic ingnorance)
between spain and france
between Spain and France
i was singing it BR and watching my friends not come back
snap!
Pau is the French-side "gateway to the Pyrenees"
Ruby unplug the phone or answer it with (husbands name) answering service
what is snap?
lots of twinsies today
ruby, saying/writing the same thing at the same time :-)
aaah
when two people say the same thing at the same time more or less
just unplugged my phone; now I won't hear it if it rings
yeah! ruby
tres bien, ruby!
Answer the phone, "Sparklies Funeral Home ... you kill em we chill em."
I hate to leave this wonderful group, but it's cocktail time in Dixie East!
hahah BR
BR LOL
lol BR
bye, ruby -- et a tes souhaits!
I answer the phone "Hello", and when it's a telemarketer I say I can't speak French
make mine a margarita ruby
au revoir, mes amis!
*poof*
gotta run as well -- BBL -- enjoyed the great group chat!!! *poof*
bye ruby and une!
bye ruby and une
sorry I got lost
hi herin you didn't miss anything
I was just talking to a high school friend and how one of the high school sweethearts broke up :( made me feel sad
too bad
It is sad. I just don't know what I would do. Himself went away for 2 weeks and I pined and these guys have known each other since 1990
right bed time. Night all
Good night, herin.
hello all - is there a list up somewhere - getting frustrated with 36 left
LIckety's is available, ursh.
oh ok tx haz
You're welcome.
hello haz! i feel like i havent seen you in quite some time. :)
Hello, EvaN, I've been here maybe just not at the same time.
yes, i have been busy with *gasp* work lately -- can you believe??
You need to nip that sort of thing in the bud.
*tries to imagine evan working*
seriously. very much getting in the way of my babble time, wedding planning, and blog reading.
you need priorities evan
Are you into the greenweddingshoes and 100 layer cake blogs?
ooh, no, i havent heard of those
ooh, no, i havent heard of those
I shouldn't give you the addresses in case you're further distracted.
But there's nothing to stop you googling them...
so thoughtful haz ;-)
I can say 'Don't blame me' with completely straight face.
oh yeah. those will keep me entertained for a little while. :)
whether you deserve to be blamed or not! lol
I will deflect all blame in FM's direction, as is the babble way.
lol of course it is always FM's fault!
Absolutely, it's a comfort to know, isn't it?
indeed
i shall tell the same to my managers if/when they question why things are not getting done...
i want hisn to be in the grid
i am sure they will completely understand and hold FM accountable
There's a wanted poster in every police station in the world with FM's face on it.
goodness!
That's why she's had to become a mistress of disguise. And have you noticed she rarely posts a picture of herself?
i didn't know I was consorting with hardened criminals here
hmmm that is true of many babblers *looks at haz's icon*
they dont get more hardened than FM. shes the hardenedest.
I know! Hello ruru.
wow the bird out side my window has this amazing beak
Two ticks...
it looks like a leather needle --- you know thin and arced?
is it a suede sandpiper?
do they have sandpiper's inland? I am close to lake victoria though
i wish this house had a bird book *sulks*
We've got 'Birds of East Africa' but that's not a lot of use to you.
i could describe it
a mocking bird size all shiny black with an even shinier green glaze to the head and then the black curved slender bill
Let's have a look.
good morning everyone;) there may be hope for me this grid as my first word for the day is he 6/21=legaleze for he 4/5 :)
hi crossy
howdy jmc:)
i ha** it when I don't see legalese
and a "th" version of the legalese
jmc - I'm being distracted, sorry for slow response on bird identity.
ty jm
hi jm!
no worry haz
a rare phantom "thyroids'
rare indeed! lol
I see my name was being bandied about again :)
Greetings all!
(((FM)))
Not me FM.. *innocent*
absolutely FM
ae 6, 21 clue?
(((crossy))) LOL ruru, yea butter wouldn't melt.
knock out gas lynn
Hi jmc :)
ty
ty
and Haz has disappeared (conveniently).
i think i will buy a copy of the birds of east africa as a bread and butter gift for the house i am staying in
at 8 anyone?
Google amethyst sunbird to see if it's anything like what you have, jmc.
ok brb
Ah there she is!
HAven't got it yet ruru.
at8 = at + I am going to **a* up my soup + the infamous robot ending
at8 - a, definite article, frog like creature, change one vowel (infamous robotic ending)
yes! that is it! ty ty haz!
now I have, thanks River and Haz.
Hooray!
thank you both.
Nifty piece of dectective work Dr Haz :)
<-- haz knows everything...
shee ty for the at river and haz
Don't encourage her ruru!
didnt get the at 8 ....hmmmm
ruru is a very wise man.
if i were a european living in a non-european country where other europeans come to stay in my house i would have a bird book
ty for the at8 haz
got it ty
I have a very keen bird-watcher husband so that when we were in Africa he was ticking off each species in the book. K for Kenya, T for Tanzania.
He has a T beside the Amethyst Sunbird.
di 9?
i should have brought a book but i was carrying so many other books for the library here i couldn't even bring enough paperbacks to read
dont throw out the baby with the di9
ty Mr. Haz
di9 - what you throw out when you've finished washing up.
*my admiration hasn't dropped a notch knowing that haz*
(pandering now FM)
ty
Hi jmc, welcome back. Habari za safari.
personally i never wa**ed my baby in di9
Haz takes the phrase 'utilise all resources' to a higher plane.
ty for two words haz.
lol ru.
You're welcome, mixi.
the 7 that follows after di 9?
lol i wouldnt wash my babies in that either
*wouldn't eat off plates at JM's house if she did*
di9 - prefix (three letters) then a word that can mean speed or the amount you're paid.
Haz did you see Sherlock last night?
my mother used to be my best source of obscure information :-(
<---loves Sherlock Holmes books
I didn't, FM, Ata was asking about it earlier. Apparently it's good!
a new version of sherlock? who by?
This is a new series ruru, Sherlock in the 21st centuary. It was very good but as I was watching in bed I fell asleep and missed the end. Will have to i-player it.
Directed by one of the directors of the New Dr Who series I think.
not one actor really fills my view of Sherlock yet
hmm well since they had him in the 20th century with basil rathbone i guess they can have him in the 21st century but i think google does him in
i liked jeremy whatshisna**
Morning, cats and kittens.
Meeeeeeeeowwww judi
meow
hello for a second. DH is trying to change a lightbulb and I am seeking cover!
mrow
prrrrr Judi :)
how many dh does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
happy cats doing happy dance!
raofl
he is now turning a light switch off and on!
lol I was just trying to work something out along those lines too jmc but can't think of a good punchline.
very talented dh
Hmm. 21st Century Sherlock, eh? Robert Downey Jr. tried. But, I don't see him as the real deal. I think Jude Law would be a better Sherlock. He looks more like Basil Rathbone.
I can't stand it; someone, pls, hand me a gun!!!!~
robert downey was terrible
what do you REALLY think of Jude Law?
sorry ruby i support non-violence
This new version is interesting as Sherlock is rather psycho/on the edge and Dr Watson has just got back from Afganistan.
what was watson doing there?
I'm not a big Jude Law fan. He's too girly looking.
the last yi?
Army Dr.
sherlock was rather psycho on the edge and his brother mycroft (who was completely messed up in the robert downey film) was completely over it
I think so, too, he is in all these French homoerotic perfume commercials eeeew
Well, thank goodness we haven't been subjected to those commercials, ruby!
he had a good movie with Robin Wright Penn where he had an autistic daughter -- I have no idea of the name in English
phone BRB.
talk about lucky!!!
who is lucky?
Can anyone clue the tr7 please :o)
Can anyone clue the tr7 please :o)

Thanks ruby
all that comes to mind is rick ricks and tricky dick
Can anyone help me with th 7/36?
there is another strange one with Alain Delon, very young, also home-erotic but taken from an old movie of his. It's really a great commercial, probably from the 60's or 70's
the movie, that is
ah ty ruby i got it

hubby probable thought it was a trouth
*poof*
Bye ruby
anyone help with te5/12, please?
yes anike, the th7 which has to do with a wedding
or a trough
or trough
SNAP!!!@!
snap!
te5/12 = mouth choppers
What we bite with
th7/32 is a compound word
That was te 5/12 by the way
Oh for heaven's sake. How stupid of me!! ty
hey, FM twinnie!!!
I do like shopping from home - just bought a couple of pairs of espadrilles and they will be delivered on Wednesday.
hey did i ever say i could spell?
hi nurse
finally, it sunk in. TY
afternoon all..
Im sure you must have at some point jmc, someone of your eloquence and all that :)
Hello, rolin.
Hi rolin
Hi everybody. Down to lat 20 or so and just struggling!
i am eloquent but can't spell worth a damn -- never could
this is bliss...i chopped up fresh strawberries..raspberries..half a banana...and a plum...and cover it with yoghurt...mmmmmmmmmm
hi rolin
last would be the word. See what I mean!!
I'm off to bed then. G'night.
I love espadrilles. I found really cheap ones at Carrefour and they are already falling apart. Usually, they should cost around $15 (8 llbs) and last a couple of years
Sleep well, anike.
I was so happy when my son got the spelling genes that everyone else in my family has -- i started asking him how to spell words when he was in the 3rd grade
8 lbs??? - how many cocktails ahve you had ruby?
I don't have a pound sign in my keyboARD
Bye anike.
bye anike
LOL
demon gin!
i don't buy shoes online -- feet to hard to fit
oo i'll take a martini!
*holds out glass for demon gin*
I have absolutely average feet - 7B, 37 in FR
great martinis chez nous!
I only do though this one store and only espadrilles as I have bought from them before.
I have one mi8/70 plural of the 7. Clue for other one please?
how expensive were they? (indiscreet question, you don't have to answer
The other one is just the same save for the last letter.
I would like to announce that the word "tree" is cleverly hidden in this puzzle. I didn't want you to knock yourselves out trying to find it, so I will go to the PB where it is nice and cool, and eat chocolate.
The first is descriptive, the second a verb form of mi7.
£15 a pair but as I am a 43 shoes are not that easy to get.
poor kap is it that hot?
hello kaplan, going to hv din now, see you later
Thank you - moving housw on Thursday so popping in and out of boxes!
:) No, but the chocolate is good.
There was a terrible storm in DC where two people were killed and my sister drove out in it to save my cat
sounds liike a fair price, FM, delivered, too
bye ruby
brave sister
i thought so -- but now i really owe her!
Good luck smaa, hope it all goes well.
okay a group of kenyans are marching down the street singing and with drums and bells -- must go watch
ma 7/52?
Where is that tr7/48 hiding???
Bye jmc.
ma7/52 - in the direction of a male
tr7 - a cross between a child's wheeled toy and a Chinese mode of transport.
thank you haz
You're welcome.
is that where Mel Gibson is now?
back --- lots of red hats and shirts so the vote no on the constitution crowd
HMM. Can't seem to figure that one out, Haz.
BRB
Prefix for three, then the ending of rick****.
it ends in George bernard nurse
and pb for haz after all that kindness
nm Haz. got it. Ty eveyone. Told you brain has gone for the day.
*fluffs pillows in pb for haz*
Entrapment. A good lawyer will get me out.
*looks at feet*
what do the large mi words relate to?
They relate to artists' mistakes.
mi7/40 - ends in spotty misery.
got the last ones..but don't see the misery part
not measles but a skin . . . .
Four letters meaning spotty itch or a foolish decision.
Leave for a couple of mins and comes back to find Haz in the PB - what is the world coming to?
It's a disgrace, FM, that's what it is.
*looks at feet*
i need a pedicure
Just two words. Amethyst sunbird. And what thanks do I get?
Tsk tsk jmc?!
not me!!!
she got in the pb on her own!!
Let us hope that jmc's feelings are those of the pe11 the other day. Penitential.
thank you .. got it finally
better that than penitentiary
hmmm *scribbles notes in The Book*
Well done, ruru!
wtg ru
penitentiary or peditentiary?
*looks at feet*
Oh Haz, didn't tell you I got stung by a big wasp on Saturday. 1st time I have ever been stung by an insect in my life - interesting experience.
ouch!
It's really sore, isn't it?
damp baking soda if it ever happens again
It hurt more than having an injection but thanfully was gone in about 4 hours. Was worried incase I had an adverse reaction but no.
I'll remember that thanks jmc.
we used to play chicken with the bees on the honeysuckle when i was a kid
Wouldn't mind but wasn't even in the garden but sitting at my desk and hadn't noticed that darn thing had landed near the mouse.
we would catch them barehanded until the first kid got stung
It's coming up to the time of year when we get lots of puppies being stung by wasps. It can look very dramatic but swelling usually goes down in a few hours.
Mother ha**ed that game
Wasps seem to sting just for the sake of it sometimes, or so it seems.
I think I was about to crush it with my arm, so can't blame it.
wasps are more vicious than bees for sure (except maybe killer bees)
I just think of bees as fuzzy buzzers but wasps are more sinister looking.
but it was a big one as it ended up upside down on a ruler on the desk and was an inch long.
Goodness! That's big for a wasp.
wow
This grid seems to being going on and on and on. I know thats what I thought!
my guard just walked by -- what was that about being in a penitentiary?
lol jmc
i felt so bad for him last night when it was pouring rain
When are you heading back to the US jmc?
Friday -- arriving Saturday
i am more than ready
A month is a long time to be away.
and help with the di7, 32. Have the 9
I bet! but all those memories and photos too I hope?
and i want fresh veggies and cheese and decent coffee and Jack!
di7/32 - negative prefix, then the speed at which you do something or the amount you get paid per hour?
all my icons this week have been my photos including this one
mmmmm jd.....
great memories too but i am ready to be home
party at jmc's at the weekend then.
*sigh* jack
Hello, crossy.
a party for sure it is my birthday
howdy haz
I will pull out the grills (I have one reserved for veggies) and chill up some beer
Oh a home coming and a birthday - excellent!
but there's no g! 4th letter pls
y'all come
wouldn't that be great jmc.
brb
The speed at which you do something, the amount per hour, the ending after i which means cross, an anagram of moisture from your eye.
Or negative prefix plus a rodent plus a vowel.
....
Haz - got it thanx
Good! You're welcome.
i think i need a shot of jack for this one:)
It certainly has it moments crossy.
Right, time to head to the kitchen to start getting some food made. Enjoy the rest of the grid, and always remember not to make a dr5 out of a crisis. Just keep calm and carry on.
Toodle-oo!
lol Bye HAz have a good evening.
lol,my brood live on tempests in teacups lol
morning is not good unless there is a crisis brewing
How is the new way of eating going Crossy? and have you seen any improvements in yr sleep pattern?
my sleep is slowly improving and the cpap machine and i are starting to get along...as for the diet..there has been some slippage i am afraid
and i love breathing normally in the night;)
good re sleep and slippage is OK, so long as you dont slide too far.
bet Mrs crossy loves you breathing normally too ;)
other night i decided try try and go without the cpap just to see how i was getting along and woke up 20 minutes later gasping and choking..so it is my life long buddy now
of that im sure, she does not have to stand guard over me anymore
well done for getting things sorted before she murdered you!
and the threat of stoke or heat attack is now greatly reduced
stroke*
even better.
The sun is just starting to edge off the main part of the garden so I had better go and get some watering done. Lovely to chat and Happy Babbling.
tc fm
you too hun *poof*
bye FM
dare i complain about this, but i think the lunch lady actually put TOO MUCH ham on my ham-n-swiss...
Is this not a wonderful grid? The aw 8 for instance; and who knew that et 5 could be on e of the is 4?!
hiya fellow babblers!
hi beach
odd complaint evan
Too much ham vis-a-vis the swiss, or just plain too much, EEvaN?
i cant even taste the cheese or veggies. all i taste is ham and honey-mustard.
if you can't taste the cheese i will have to agree -- that is too much ham (or not enough cheese)
Yeah - if you ask for ham and swiss, it's because youva lue the swiss!
i quite like ham, but this is a littler overkill...heh
swiss is so mild..leave the ham and remove the swiss and add 7 year old extra old sharp cheddar
I'm blaming the keyboard for the odd intrusion and omission of spaces!
mmm cheese
yknow, im thinking it might not so much be the ham, as the honey mustard! definitely too much of that.
opps sorry jmc:/
well you can scrap off the mustard
its okay crossy i like to dream
yup. heres hoping i can re-wrap it correctly. :)
*scrape
is it a flat bread sandwich then?
(does anyone think we talk too much about each of our meals?) ;-)
nope;)
its a wrap...
i don't like the bread on most wraps that are not pita bread or indian bread
i like the spinach wraps. they used to have really yummy jalapeno wraps, but the knew caf company doesnt buy them. :/
i do not mind using naan as a wrap but i dislike most others
new*
most of them seem to stiff to me
of course a warm flour tortilla works
apparently, not when you douse them with honey mustard. ;)
yippee i found a kenya tax form webpage -- who'd of thought
uhhh, yay? *looks at crossy in confusion as to why we are celebrating this*
i was asked to help with the forms since i am a tax attorney but of course i am a US tax attorney and well these are kenyans
ahh
I prefer to know what i am doing even when i volunteer
makes sense. :)
so were you out in the big storm yesterday?
we were in the house. lost power for a little bit.
my sister apparently was driving over to my house to let the cat in when it hit in my neighborhood
yipes
there are random shutters, pieces of siding, and gutter drainpipes scattered throughout our neighborhood now
she said that the sky turned orange and she was completely dry for a moment
she had to make more than two tries to get on my block because of downed limbs and then found the cat huddled between my attached neighbors porch and mine
awww, poor kitty!
and poor sister! She had to borrow shoes to get back to her car since she only had on flip flops
heh, yes, flip flops are definitely NOT heavy storm shoes!
she has lost several of them over the years in running wa5! lol
is the he8 connected to the he7?
no idea. i dont have an 8 yet...
or an HE7, for that matter...heh
thanks anyway
he7/h8 is the plural
hello
ty kalia
do you want a clue?
no ty i got it I had the 7
ah ok :)
maybe evan?
im always game for a clue. :)
day was hot...puppy was hot and miserable..3 bags of ice cubes later and voilia!! http://asset.soup.io/asset/0925/7737_f 425.jpeg
awwwwww
he7/8 acts of he * often wins medals
very cute
TY kallia :)
yw
puppy on the rocks;))
okay 1/2 way I think I will take a break and see what i can learn about kenyan taxes -- fun fun fun!
JMC!!!! ((((hugs))))
hey all...
guessing that JMC is gone. *sigh*
how's the grid?
lol not sure stidmama,i am 59 in but hiding the grid total from myself lol
((cross)) okay, I'll not worry about it.
if the total is 60 then it is a great grid..if it is 460,then it sucks
I have enough to worry about anyway.
whats up stiddles..tell uncle crossy;)
you know cross, it's probably not something to be overly upset about. I had time when I got my evaluation from my faculty member to try to re-negotiate parts of it. BUT. I thought I had some time so I could finish the summer classes first. NOW this morning I read that the whole shebang has to be complete by Wednesday... and I don't even know if she is in town. All that, and it's really minor things that are bothering me. I think it's just that I want to quit this master's program. I really hate it.
And today... I actually hate myself for taking up so much of the family's money and the time in something that may be a dead end for me.
anyway, that's what's up.
mmm..i see
well if your near the end of it,grit your teeth, dive into it and see it through to the end
I have another year. I have been gritting my teeth for the last 9 months already.
ig you are destined to go down, then go down fighting and clawing and take whoever bumped your deadline along with you:)
(((cross))) LOL thanks! I'll go down fighting.
you paid for it,so make sure they cough up every last second you have coming to you
stiddie! *stern mama look*
Oh, Stid--you brought me out of lurk mode--would any words of encouragement help? I often felt like giving up on my advance degrees--and I did take time from my family, too. Everyone survived that, however. And my girls (now w/ children of their own) said they learned from my own determination to finish (although they didn't feel that way at the time). Hi everyone.
*cowers from jmc*
*hides behind miranda* (thanks miranda?
hi mira!
don't be a quitter!
make sure you finish...do not make me come down there...
*stomps foot* I am NOT a quitter. Just feeling completely like a LOSER. *engraves L on forehead*
er that means lesbian in sign language
rofl... that is too funny, cross!
besides, jmc is already going to be here in a few weeks. I think.
what? the foot stomp or the l on the forehead?
Hi, jmc--yes, it's not being a quitter--it's more like "what in the world did I ever think I wanted to do?"
well, whatever fits, right jmc?
so not a loser stiddie -- a loser is a quitter
does Mr Stidmama know?
--and of being overwhelmed with hoops to jump through.
I think I would be able to do what I want just being a paraprofessional, to be honest. I do NOT need the angst of becoming a certified teacher.
yes, he knows. poor man.
I think that every day mira
Yep--I think the world of certified teachers needs you, Stid, if you can hang in there.
just do this stidmama..imagine in your mids eye the degree you get at the end..now imagin that degree naild with 3 inch spikes to the forehead of people who get in your way
minds
but i then i have a day when i talk to the press or give a speech or a soldier says thank you and it is all worthwhile
nope. that one didn't work cross, how about the i in the lower right corner?
really jmc??? you REALLY have days like this? *astonished look*
Could I please get a clue for the tr7,48?
hey smith.
you are astonished i have good days!?!?!
teaching degree is it?
Hello
more than two+chinese rick ****
no. *stomps foot again, peevishly* I am astonished you have awful days when you feel rotten about stuff*
hi smith
geez stiddie everybody with a brain does
Great! Thank you. I've been looking for that for what seems like hours!
yes cross, and stupidly I chose to get a Master's rather than just update my existing bachelor's with teacher certification. I could have had all this done in a single year. less money, less stress, etc etc etc and quicker earnings.
yw
thanks for the tr7!
lol,i am having a rough decade, but i have hopes for the next ten;0
but the masters means more $$$
then I must have an uber-brain because MOST days feel like this.
yw stiddie
lol stiddie
On the plus side, jmc -- you weren't here for this. I went for a more-than-an-hour walk with Tom Friday evening. It was heavenly. And I didn't need the cane. AND I have been working in the garden and managed to get the irrigation for the beds by the front door working again.
now that is n ice to hear;))
(((jmc))) (((cross))) (((miranda))) you are the BEST pep-talkers ever. I think I will just see if my faculty member is even responding to email. brb.
it does sound heavenly -- can't walk here after dark -- might be shot
go stiddie go!
that doesn't sound like a very friendly place, jmc. I hope you are home soon.
it is very friendly except after dark
of course being on the equator that means 12 hours a day 365 days a year
remember, there is no past,no tomorrow, live for the now stiddles, and get in there and fight because if this should be a last day you want the world to remember you;))..if you have any problems, give me his e-mail and ill send him a nice virus ;))
Thanks again. I guess I'd better go stop ignoring my family now. :)
yw smith
nothing says forever lake a trojan wormhole exploit virus;)
okay i am back to learning about kenyan tax law but wanted to cheer stiddie on
(crossy keep your wormholes to yourself)
*smacks crossys keyboard*
okay, message sent. *figners crossed* Now I know I have done what I could once I realized something needed doing.
Oh dear. I unintentionally lurked while I was away at lunch.
I just wish I had realized the faculty contact had to happen weeks ago...
rofl cross -- faculty is a she, and it's going to be okay. Or not. But I am doing the best I can at each point in time, even if my "best" is a variable... *sigh* and even if I miss important details on occasion.
This is probably a sign that I was smart to not pursue brain surgery as a profession.
hey Judi
"tardism" the practice of being religiously late to events.
YES! found the "moron" word that starts with the i in the lower right corner. Have been looking for that for ages.
okay, back later. down to 137. *poof*
hello...
hello everybody! back to try to chip away at the remaining 113 words (doubtful).
How are you, Jellen?
Hi, ruby!
I am well, getting a late start to my day...
and my day is almost over!
hello all :)
((jellen))
howdy ata
Hi, Ata!
hello ata
hello crossy
howdy ruby tuesday:)
Hi, crossy :-)
ruby tomorrow
And a pre-breakfast hello to all -- 130 to go and glad to see Lickety :)
hello jilli!
Hello, jilli!
reading your updates jellen, are they going to give tim blood and meds to bring his white count up?
They just gave him a week off, crossy...hoping that will do it...
hi folks - just got back from grocery shopping - my most unfavorite chore of the week
mum's just found out how long she'll have radio for - luckily only 3 weeks!
Hi, JBV
hello Babble :)
mm,i have to go and get 3 pints of blood from the hospital..i felt much better afterwards...with a low count i could hardly bend ove and picl a panny off the ground without the room spinning
That's good, Ata
radiation therapy, Ata?
Hi, Kalyn!
had
yep, JBV. JUst had a mastectomy
damn typos
oh, sorry to hear that about your mom, hope she will recover quickly
((Ata and Ata's mum))
as do i..my mil also went throught that recently
cross, how long did it take? they keep talking about 2 units packed for my son..and he's terrified to do it (he's 20)
{{this is such a good place for all of us}}
((ata,s mum))
she'll be ok. luckily. none of her lymph nodes were at all affected, and hopefully the radio should clear everything up properly
4 hours per pint
we can share the good stuff, the bad and the awful!
very good news, Ata - best wishes to her and to you
so 8 hours? wow :(
my niece in London had her mastectomy and was home in less than a week (last Thursday). She's going to be fine.
tell your son he will feel much better afterwards kalyn..i had so spend the night one other time
or less, Kalyn. depends how quickly they want to transfuse
total of 7 pints in 2 weeks
hmmm so ..they could keep over night and he could try and sleep?
yup
I had 2 bad nodes, stage 2A, and it will be 20 years in November! Give your mom a big hug from another survivor!
my sister always goes in over night, but she ends up with 6 or 7 units
he's just hating needles now, so much testing and blood samples
I will ruby!
ask your doc to arrange for a stay over it is much easier kalyn
thanks cross I'll talk to them about that
Could I have a clue for one the words from the H in the bottom row, please?
but poor mum;s had her radio schedule and nearly every appt is at 5pm. horrid timing!
lol@ needles, dont i know it!! damn chemo needles have a bore like a ball point pen!
Didn't you have a port, crossy?
bad timing indeed ata
keep telling him..they really only need ONE vial to test..rest are for the vampires that live in the back rooms
no jellen every day 4 sticks for blooks, one stick for anti nausea and 1 stick for chemo
blood
Oh, how awful! Tim has a port...
and she lives nearly an hour from the hospital. thank goodness it's only 3 weeks!
i wnet out of that time looking like a needle freak my arms and hand were pockmarked
i am sure she will do great ata:))
siree
whoops
lol off you go ruby
sorry
hw4/9 and ha4/9 Jellen
oh she will :) she's so copletely determined that nothing would dare go wrong :P
darn monkeys!
H in bottom row, please?
thats the way to go at it:))
FM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
(((Ata)))
Thanks, FMitch and hi!!!
lol! easy ata!
Sily caught a bird today!!
*steady Ata you nearly knocked me over th4
nbt
Bad Sily :(
you desevre that many :)
her first ever bird! indoors!
HI all. Indoors oh dear - what happened?
what kind of bird and why was it in the house?
indoors? Not the budgie!!!
a sparrow flew through the window ...
Glad to hear the news re yr Mum Ata but bu**er re the timings.
hey all
Hey, peri!
Cue cat launching herself at window at 100 miles an hour, knocking aside anything and everything in her way, catching the bird, running around the house with the bird, of course not killing it just pouncing on it and toying with it and being very pleased with herself. Total comedy of errors. I finally get the bird off her - after having chased her round the room about a hundred times only for the bird to fly rather dazedly straight at the dog. End of bird.
howdy peri
I am looking for a no kill cat facility. my sister is getting to the end of her rope re my cat
and I am beside myself (my favorite expression)
Ah sparrows are not my fav a.t.m - they keep using the geranium flowers to launch themselves at insects and are breaking every stem when they do that.
((peri)) I'm sorry...
LOL mental image of Ata in leg brace chasing bird and animals round the hosue.
a green finch committed suicide in my geraniums this AM and DH wouldn't touch it.
yeah, me too. hope I find one soon. she will resart her meds this week. special order tho
((peri)) I understand the problem :(
no brace :)
Oh peri dear, so sorry to hear that.
we have no kill facilities..but too far from you i am afraid peri
yay no brace for Ata :)
I wish I lived closer, peri, I would take the cat!
I looked last year before I moved here and they were all full
aw, ruby, don't make me cry
I would love to have a cat here
ok,everyone, who lives near peri and can foster a kitty?
I'd move out, ideally. Seen enough people get rid of beloved pets .... I would too, peri ...
Get on the phone peri and make those calls if you haven't aready, as painful as it may be hun.
don't cry, let's try to find a solution.
I willFM
ok, ruby
I'm stumped. te 6/18, first one after dentition
can't afford to move out at the moment, that is the problem
I have a cousin in Eugene and will e-mail him
I live in PA
latin plural, bichon
1st te6/18 is the 5/10 with a vowel added
why did I think you were in Oregon? duh....
if you were West Coast, I could help :(
2nd te6/18 is the 5/10 + pl.
nice clue, jbv
peri, where in PA?
No, the first te 6/18
hello joey
outside Phila
Hi, joey
oops, sorry, that's the first one I have
hi everyone.
hi joey
howdy joey
peri, where outside PHL? NSEW?
Hi, JBV
Hi joey
wynnewood
Peri,
How old is the kitty?
14 and 1/2
hi Jellen
she is a sweetheart and my heart is breaking
I have one 16 and 20.
wow
Hi, blue...wow, 20?
te6/18 the one you are looking for sounds like that syndrome where the sufferer has facial and body tics and can do involuntary swearing.
would she be able to fly to NH?
found some names on the internet of shelters, some are closed today, some are full. will keep checking
don't know, she has never been on a plane
sedate her
I would have to go with her, would not let her go alone
ty FMitch
peri, i wish that I knew people in that area. mine are much farther away......sorry
yw bichon
that's ok, joey
bbs
i know someone who is driving to NH in September. From near Trenton to the NH coast, if that helps.
((peri))
wiil think about it joey
bye for now
{{group hug for peri}}
I must go, too...bills to pay, etc...((hugs to all))
[[jellen]]
Bye Jellen
and I must go and get dinner before it gets too late.
gd night everybody, giving up with 102 left!
*poof*
bye peri
good afternoon babblers. Heron, I have not seen you in a while.
Oh I must off for a flower icon...
Hello Red,
I've been travelling. I'm in Germany right now with my daughter and granddaughter.
We've been to Poland (for Pottery of course), Italy, the drivers are nuts!!! Austria, Wow what a ride up and down the Alps!
pottery in poland??
sounds great, blueheron, did you go anywhere near Torino? one of those drivers may have been my cousin! :)
We went on a Rhine river cruise and saw many castles.
Ok I am back, with Fresia.
blue that sounds like a great trip...neat o!
ha ha! we went to Lake Garda. The largest lake in Italy I am told. The food was great though. Dinner at 7:30 is a little too much for me, but those are the traditions.\
7:30? that early!
7:30 is actually early
at nite?
8 or 9 or 10 is more normal
try SPain = dinner at 9:00 or 10:00 is not unusual
boy, I could never have too much food on vacation!
For a 3 course meal?
yep, finsih maybe at midnight or later
not to worry, I've had plenty of food for this trip
in crete we were starting our meal at 11pm
even here I generally eat at 8 or 9
wow!
la comida reposada, y la cena paseada - spanish saying means "after lunch you sleep, after dinner, take a walk"
I am missing something, what is going on with Peri and the kitty?
we are lucky to have dinner by 9pm. Take tonight I still don't know what we are having let alone started cooking it yet
do you eat a light meal?
I go to sleep around 9 each night, but then I am crazy and get up at 4 am...
I'm actually eating now, which is unheard of early!
I was so pleased with manwear as a word.......unfortunately enable was not!
change it v slightly, katie
manwear is awesome katie.
ohhhh got it, still think manwear was better though lol
me too lol
The new man in my life just emiled me that he was going to call around 9 and I must admit...I can;t find a nice way to say NO, no I want sleep.
txt him saying youre sorry but you're too tired
hmmmm difficult one but best to be honest
I think he'll get it that I actually have to get up at 3 am tomorro for running and MD appointment....He runs also. I'm still freaked out by him. He is a good match for me and that has me all befuddled.
anyone that doesnt get that isnt worth it anyway
true. SO far Ata he has been very worth it.
apart from the clothing? :P
yes, apart from the clothing, but that can be changed. I mean, he's a man, you can always give men clothing for Christmas and they blindly wear it.
yay for red and her new beau!!
absolutely! if that's the worst, you're doing brilliantly!
We come from extremely similar backgrounds and share very similar values. So it is nice, I just have to sort of figure out how to live life with another person in it...if you know what I mean?
omg absolutely, its a huuuuge adjustment, especially if you're used to livng completely independently
He seems more than ready to give that up, but I have grown very accustomed to making my own schedule, and I was very happy that way as well. It seems most people are looking for a mate constantly, but I sort of gave up on it...and voila.
all you can do is see what happens. either he'll be worth giving up some of that independence for, or your own schedule and way of life will be more important
And then I have a tendency to get a bit wound up about what if's in the future, I mean, how do you handle things like Money earned, and such...
listening quietly..... red, you've found the secret - same thing happened to me, settled in to being single (lived alone for 8 years), then boom! met hubby and everything changed
but can I just add, take one small step at a time, you don't have to change your whole schedule now, dont' think about those joint checking account problems now, take it slow
yes, I am trying to slow him down...though I have to admit, it is nice to feel appreciated and get flowers and such...
worry about those things when it's time to worry about them :)
yup work on being friends right now
those ideas seem to pop in my head. The last long term relationship I had no money etc....
wonder, yes, but don't fixate on them :)
So nw that I do actually have equity, I don't particularly want to give that up, and I think I do make more money than he does so thats always a bit odd...
he sounds lovely red, the clothes issue can be sorted and remember this is a new relationships and you can learn from mistakes made in the past and don't repeat them
just see whether you enjoy *him* first. worry about the rest after that!
We'll see how things go. We do enjoy the same things, outdoors stuff, indian and thai foods, and I was so worried as his sister (My friend) is an atheist...and I am not, but it turns out he is not either, so that doubly confirmed my interest.
mmmmm thai foods
perhaps it will only be a to**** affair ( ha ha ha)
well that's always fun :P
I just found the word. though I would use it.
I am liking the grid!
but it is Pizza monday so I am going to go order before the place gets crowded...
thanks all for the advice! I am not good at the relationship thing yet.
just enjoy it :)
hello all! (((red)))
stiddy!
any time it's pizza time, it's a good time. *wise mama look*
hi folks .. just popping in to say a quick hello (and hello, ata! thinking of changing my icon to a georgia o'keefe flower! LOLLOL)
do NOT give up *VERY stern Dr look*
hey atalante! I was having a hissy fit earlier about grad school. jmc and cross and miranda talked me into staying. for today.
hey welki!
welki! yay!!!
yes, I saw! all grad degrees involve such angst. the hardest part of them is always surviving them, not the actual work!
*sniffle* so I gather. but when I am in the middle of it, I feel VERY awful. it's not as much fun as I had hoped.
I know ... I totally understand ...
I guess that sounds pretty silly, but honestly. Even parenting rarely feels this awful!
how about you? are you making progress on your visa?
it WILL be worth it. just get through it somehow, it's always the hardest part of any grad degree
well actually!
am talking to a lovely man in OR fish and wildlife who has possible projects that need doing, so that's a good start!
thanks atalante. I am glad I know a lot of folks who have been through this sort of thing before.
oooh. fish and wildlife -- lots of outdoor stuff to do, and beautiful country to do it in!
yep! hopefully something on invasive species, I'm hoping
you want me to seed goldfish in the Willamette for you? *crafty evil mama look* at least if they really escape they'd be pretty...
*JOKE* btw...
looooooool :D
okay, there's my H2O for tea... brb
there;s enough around OR /WA!
Firetwirps!!
yay JUdi!!!
YAY Judi!!!!
rofl twirps....
yes I know, Capitol Lake has some invasive micro snails that they can't seem to get rid of. Of course the lake is artificial... but if they get moving up the Deschutes river then it could be a real disaster.
Or, if you prefer... twerps.
*sigh* real work awaits.
either way, it's a funny variant of "firewords!"
you might like this: http://www.science.oregonstate.edu/~ya madas/
I also like "fireburps", "firenerds", etc.
Hello again...
*gasp* oyster drills aren't NATIVE???? oh dear.... there are thousands of them in the waters of Puget Sound.
hey again Jellen ((hugs))
*indignant mama look* hey! if you get that job, I will send the elder stidkid to volunteer to count critters next summer....
exactly! I like having research assistants!
Judi, I may have to borrow your invention, it seems so fun!
Taking a break after writing checks for the building renovation...exhausting! lol
to be serious for a moment, if I *do* get a research opportunity, if he wants to come help for a week or two, I can teach him marine bio!
What a great opportunity that would be!
I think he would like that Atalante, being completely honest -- it would be a good way for him to explore a different kind of science while actually doing good work. He is turning into a very good worker. *proud mama look*
awwww :) well, let's hope and then discuss further :)
btw, these "Marys Gone Crackers" Sticks and Twigs are really addicating... *munch munch* I am so enjoying the curry flavored ones I got.
oooo they sound nice!
it's funny, but in a way I am glad I am dealing with restricted diet. It makes me appreciate the things I can eat, and has pushed me out of my comfort zone (used to eat wheat with everything) to try new combinations.
how's the leg now atalante? how's our dear hobbit?
leg is getting there VERY slowly. I shouldn't complain, it just seems to take forever!!! And Hobbit is so well :) She has a very smart new collar and is very smug
good for hobbit! nothing like new jewelry to make a girl feel pretty. ;-)
it's red wine colour and very beautiful :D
and about the leg... you have my empathy. I FINALLY felt well enough Friday night to walk. that was the first time in over two years, but when I tried to push it before it made things worse.
you WILL get back to being your usual active self. In the meantime, are you doing more artwork and reading?
it's really getting better as quickly as it can, it just seems to take forever
but YAY for you!!!
oh yes, I have a new completely insane knotwork in progress :D
:-D AND there are now parts of the garden that are not totally in ruins again. So there is hope...
I love knotwork...
very good for you! I have a knitting project that is in knots... does that count?
brb...
hm. something keeps rattling. must investigate. back soonish.
Oh dear. I hate to interrupt but I cannot find the first 2 ma--the 7 and the 8. Any help for a poor soul?
hey all. St. Gertrude is the patron saint of cats and the people who love them. Did not know that.
I am not a Christian or even religiouis but I sent a prayer up to St. Gertrude. Thought it would not hurt.
hey Jayk and peri!
REALLY? My cat will certainly be glad to know he HAS a patron saint!
I think it might be a sapsucker or woodpecker sending a signal from the side of the house... LOL
he certainly needs one!
that's a good idea, peri. no problem in covering all the bases. is your cat doing any better?
St. Gertrude...will have to remember that!
stiddy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/elegaer/4 831271835/
perhaps St Gertrude could help with the mas?

Mmm...rich looking!
it's a Rohirric design for Tolkien things ... so green and gold :)
*grin* I would paint my house pink if tom would let me. but there are a few things he puts his foots down about, and that is one.
it will be lovely, atalante. ((hugs))
lol me too :)
at 8?, please
tonight I am going to cut his hair... wonder if your design will inspire me? *wicked wifely look*
I am still looking bichon, sorry.

Hmmm...purple brick...I don't think so...I'll stick to clothes and toenails for my favorite color...
hi, all. I'm stuck on the tr7/48, my last word. clues, please?

I learned a new aussie word from your profile... *tries it out on the stidkid who visited Oz last summer*
chook?
he says it's an animal, it's a bird....
he guesses a native australian bird.
I asked if they would still be chooks after baking or frying...
chooks are chickens!
they are indeed - there is a variation of a chicken shop like KFC here called "Chook"
LOL he was pretty close, though, given no additional visual cues
very cool! thanks for the new terminology daykat!
listen to chickens - they say "chook chook"!!
ah... very onomatopoetic!

I may have to list before NBT....
stid - i've been looking at your E, but I can't find anything for it either...
but I do have a brace, I do! I also have crutches, but they freak the cats out, and it's impossible to work on them. Worse than useless!

OK enough with the cats, even I'm not stupid enoughh to risk my health for some cats

compound word, di (plate) + liquid
my cane is PINK with flowers all over it. actually both canes do, but the folding one also has red and blue flowers. :-D
thnx vm stid
daycat i love the walking stick vs regular canes.we have a old fella near here who hand carves custom walking sticks;))
:-D glad to help kazzer
LOL Katie - the cats rule this flat. They're the only meat-eaters here so I guess that puts them at the top of the food chain.
i have a crutch for when my leg and hip is too bad but i try not to use it
stidkid is watching The Gods Must Be Crazy. I think that's true
my hubby loves that movie!
but the cat cannot go to work for you if you really bugger up that ankle by not wearing your brace...

ty stid

tr7 please, my last word
Rest assured, my flatmate has already painted it as a rainbow...
LOL Stid. Didn't see you'd said that. Obviously, great minds think alike when it comes to you and Frank!
or paint it purple so it just looks like the bare ankle *stern mama look* really kiddo -- if you don't take care of it now you are likely to have trouble for a very long time.

I am finding that I can't sleep longer than about 7 hours at a time these days, but that and a nap in the late afternoon seems to be getting me through.

Homemade ginger beer sound sgreat carleekat! I have in mind to make root beer but have to find the bottles, caps, capper, sugar, and check on my little stock of extract. Better get it done before it is winter--like next week.
thanks so much carlee -- and for sharing your video!

Take care, Stid :)
fireflies
oh, well done, Wild!
i've never made root beer..this was my first try at ginger beer...i should have poured it all out at once into a pitcher....its a little sedimenty now...but still tastes rather yum..not at all sweet like the stuff in the store
YAY wild! *repoof*

Congrats Wild!
Congrats wildcat. !!!! Some gingerbeer all around (from carleekat).

hello all! is there a list today?
Lickety is up TOwl
hey everyone!
Hello, M9 :)
ty lyn
I haven't been on here since yesterday afternoon
*for reference it is now 4 pm here*
I haven't been in bed since...hmm, since I'm too sleepy to work it out, perhaps I had better head there.
indeed. sleep, silly boy!
LOL
ohhh! look at your icon!! being all sexy and everything
But the cats are having their crazy hour around my room ;)
I need a new icon.. what's the theme?
Sexy...hungover, more like ;) hence the disgruntled expression.
eveing
evening*
ha! you can't fool me. that pic was taken with a filter. someone was getting all artsy fartsy.
Hey, Magyk!
hi magyk
NB is the only person around that can look that sexy when hung over ;)
LOL Jes - thank you, I suppose ;) but those are definitely hangover clothes - the mandigan is a giveaway!
sweater? like cardigan? OH! cardigan for a guy.
like guyscara... murse...
lol, M9! Sorry, yes, that's right. You cracked my code ;)
guyliner! eyeliner..
I like guyscara better!LOL
*on some..it's VERY scary!*
I'm trying to think of more words now :P mankini? no...I'll leave that out..
ack!
please do!
you two are...too much! :)
You say that now Magyk, you haven't seen me in my guyscara and mankini yet ;)
can someone explain to me how je4/13 is not a proper noun? arabs doesn't work, neither does christians... don't understand
because it's slang for cheats someone
oh baby! *fans my face* haha
now I'm looking it up. boytox! mirdle, mantyhose!
or drives an excessively hard bargain, i guess.
noone said the grid was pc
hmmmm. rather offensive --
I agree Dorens...
No mantyhose, I beg you!
yup. occasionally see a hawaiian word that's an insult for white non-islanders too
oh? what's that jes?
as well as some curse words
what a weird time for me to roll in..
hi ruru :)
hiya jess
hey ruru!
got your mancessories?
Do other racist terms work? I kind of want Gook to be a word. I deserve to be represented ;)
hello m9 and dorens
i've seen a few that are often used as derogatory, but they're just words... dago, spic, they are pretty nasty. but i don't know if any of them actually impugns an entire ethnic group as being "cheats" ... unethical or criminal
hello ruru. and others
it also accepts homo too dorens.. which is more than a little offensive
but it takes hetero, also, ruru
Oh, so I'm represented anyway...gook or no gook.
yeah! as a homo sapien I protest
LOL!
(not sure about that all the time m9)
NB..I could just hug you
I'll go with homo sap.. though
yes nb... gook does. Yes ruru, but homo is merely short for homosexual. which is factual, right? it has taken on a connotation that is negative... same as spic, gook, etc... but is it saying that this group does something specifically wrong to people, or is it just mean and derogatory (not that that is ok)
pfpft ruru~!
lol
how about wetback?
To welsh on a bet - refuse to pay up. Does that fall into the category of insulting a race?
ohhh...good one haz
gyp
dunno... sounds somewhat more benign than to cheat someone
I don't know dorens.. I never understood how black people call each the n word.. but anyone else.. watch out
To scotch a rumour - except that Scots don't like to be called anything other than Scottish or Scots.
special code, ruru, my brotha
so scotch tape is offensive?
I wouldn't even say it had a negative connotation - not generally, anyway. Not in the same way as fag, etc...
i thought it was squash a rumor...
lol dorens
I've never heard scotch a rumor
that will upset vegetarians now dorens
hop scotch? butterscotch?
haha ruru
(I think haz has been drinking)
Suddenly reminded that the grid will accept "wino"
scotch does sound good...mmm
scotch and water?
hey!!!!!! I am offended by wino
when I google it, it comes up "scotch a rumour".. notice the spelling. must be brit slang
heh. ruru, i sometimes find winos offensive, is that the same?
(now waiting to see gook, wino and homo all in one grid so I can feel suitably offended)
To Scotch a rumour is to expose a rumour. Scotch here has nothing to do with Scotland, but rather the old French word "escocher" ...
lol jes.
escocher sounds nasty
phant hetero!
uh.. m9?
that et8 is weird
uh....ruru?
psst.. the grid is gay.. pass it on
ROFL!
LOL Ruru. It's alright. Out is in.
oh, good, ruru. I like happy grids :)
(who else would put chartreuse with bright yellow)
just because it has geo michaels
??
oops. band
morning all - what a lively conversation!!!
hey day!
m9 is having bathroom humor
anyone have clue for second 9? i have er 9
gm day
what you wa** things in after dinner, mkg
just because I exposed a rumour?
Thanks for George Michael's band...didn't have that one.
di**wa**er not in grid.
I'm not sure that is what George exposed
yw
why don't you just try it mkg?
ooooooooooh got it! ty ty ty
think more old fashioned mkg!
ty.
thanks, m9
how about clue for i word bottom right corner?
beliefs... suffix, actually
stupid person, mkg
this conversation is a little close to home...literally, hampstead health is only a few km away
oohhhhh.. I should have gone to pb earlier!!!
really nancy boy? my friend lived there many years ago and a couple of us went over and stayed with her... so lovely there... she was a couple of doors down from john le carré's house, and a block or so from boy george
doren, when is your vacation?
to sonoma? 8/21 - 8/28 owl
you are taking more than one? god for you!
oh.LOL I thought doren was cluing!
couple of little trips to the shore between now and then... not real vacations, but then again, i'm not working, am I?
i thought that was fixed
Oh yeah Dorens, I love it! It's about...let me think...probably about 5km away. Nice to have so much open space. If you google earth where I live, you'll see that there is NOT a lot of room!
nope. just hopeful that it will be, but won't here until later in august...
it's 4:30 pm here. Gage just came stumbling out saying "good morning mom"LOL he's not used to napping
need to do something in the way of a chore but lawn mowing woere me out
we were silly and a little tipsy one night and walked by boy george's house calling "oh, boy!! boy!!" tipsy ladies in their thirties... so pathetique (of course this was 25 years ago
have just eaten a lovely juicy grapefruit - now have grapefruit juice all over keyboaard
ohh.. there's a non pc here for the mentally challenged too.
ew, actually, don't google earth where I live - the first photographs you see are of public urinals and sex shops. we're classy here.
well, it is actually a real word though. and originally it described the mental condition as they understood it.
time to go. bye
bye owl
bye owl
well, they are all real words ;) every derogatory term describes something as others understand it; the problem is, they don't really understand it at all!
and often words are derogatory because of the attitude or even nonverbal cues which accompany the word
rather than the word itself
I completely agree, Daykat - especially in regard to the discussion of homophobic terms, earlier. Lots of my friends call me fag, poofter etc all the time - intention is everything, I think!
And of course, "nancy boy" itself ;)
and we can call ourselves terms such as dyke, lessie ets with love and affection and then its not derogatory - but let someone else say the same word with a sneer -
I went to my first gay wedding last year..
it was really fun and moving..
are gay marriages legal in the states ruru?
sadly they arent here in Oz
they were briefly in California
indeed, Daykat. It's quite a common term to say that we're "reclaiming" these words - queer and the like - but I don't think that works when people still use it as an insult.
they are in Massachusetts
they are legal in Vermont, Mass., and Hawaii I think
It's ridiculous...can't believe it isn't legal in the USA. On what grounds??
YEAH BOSTON!
no grounds just the religious right
the Mormons and the christian right
my partner and I had a 'wedding' after we had been together for 20 years - it was a wonderful occasion, but not legal!
plus a dumbshit for a president back then
well, it's not illegal, exactly. you can have all the ceremonies you want, but the states don't have to grant you the same benefits as for het marriages
sorry I can't stand him
same here in Oz, the legal rights attached to het marriages are not accorded to us
People will judge and judge and blindly quote bible verses - the bible also says that you shouldn't marry a woman who isn't 'pure' - guess they don't pay attention to that one...
the bible also says you can sell your daughters into slavery
we cant be each others Next of Kin for example
and that you cannot eat dairy and meat in the same meal
yeah .. well how many times has Elizabeth taylor been married
that women can't leave the house without a veil
or plant two differnet crops in the same field!
and that eating shrimp is an offense about on par with violent assault.
obviously the bible is the literal word of god to be taken literally and followed to the letter in all things. Except, you know, for all of those parables and the things that are inconvenient.
is that out of Crustaceans IV
LOL Jes, hear hear!
Leviticus 11, actually
11:9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 11:10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: 11:11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. 11:12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
Laviscious is more like it
I prefer Crustaceans IV myself
it's an abomination. ABOMINATION!!!! to eat shrimp or shellfish.
as long as you don't prawn it off on someone who cares
Interestingly, there is no anti-lesbian rule in the bible that I'm aware of.
so much for that lobster and scallop dinner i just ate
and no Brit law against it either - Queen Vic could not even imagine it and so did not legislate against it!! Poor Queen Vic - no imagination
hmm never thought of that Nancy
Also interesting from Leviticus--apparently, camels had single hooved feet at the time of the writing: 11:4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
LOL Daykat!!
funny how there's no evolution, but camels have 2 toes now...
you are scaring me a bit jess..
why's that, ruru?
As far as I know it's true, Ruru - there is that well-known verse in Leviticus about how a man shall not lie with another man; that is a wicked sin! But nothing about lesbians.
all these quotes right out of your head?
Leviticus was into threesomes probably
Jes, that's SO funny!
again - no imagination NB!!
no, i just know where to look for them. i learn these things in self defense, i have the uber bible-thumping conservative christian in laws.
oh.. whew...
mostly i just avoid discussing politics or religion with them, but once in a while it's fun to drop something like that on them...
there is a little about lesbians in the NT, though. it talks about how even their women were inflamed with unnatural passions for each other in one of paul's letters.
we have a weird christian church near us
The Bible was translated by men, so they might've been a bit upset by what their sons were up to??
there's a delicious funny 'letter' which does the rounds - someone writing to a Dr Laura someone asking whether he should stone his neighbours because they cut their hair, that sort of thing. Its a hoot but it does make you think
poor old Paul was a terrible misogynist
The people who oppose same-sex marriage quote the Bible injunction that marriage is for procreation -- which rules out older people, those who have medical problems that preclude carrying a child full term, and a host of other things.
McCartney you mean?
alrighty. it's quittin time. i'm'a head home and get dinner, be back in a bit to find those last lurking 88 works...
Ew, Conservatives. I'm a gay immigrant living in a red light district who was, until recently, part of a committed inter-racial relationship. Conservatives rarely get on with me ;)
Oh Paul - what a pain in the ear'ole.
bye jess
oh, NB, you are a Conservative's nightmare!!!
*giggle... I'll say*
did we lose M9?
applause for jesgraggon!
d
I'll join you in that, Bonkler!
Christine - agreed
and proud, Daykat ;)
love that canada has sane policy regarding marriage. despite the constant attacks by creepy religious zealots and conservative hate mongers.
hi all, back for a few more
I'm not a citizen (I'm British) but, obviously I'd vote to extend rights to everyone -- that's the opeative word, and because it is right. 'All men are created equal' - except ...
religion is a scarily powerful tool, really. I was raised in a buddhist household - buddhism has no real teachings against homosexuality, so people twist words until they can make some!
hi all -- 36 to go and it's bridge night -- won't have time, waahhh!
Forty-odd years ago, many friends (almost white men & women) fought for the civil rights of black people, because it was right. Now we need people to fight for the rights of gasys & lesbians, even if it doesn't directly affect you & your family.
it is interesting NB, I believe a good number of religions do just that - twist until it fits their way of thinking
hi jilli
hi Jill, Flosey :)
you can do it - call out what you need
agree Christine. And probably it affects more families than one would imagine. All those single maiden aunts?
weell, they weren't actually almost men & women -- as far as I know, they were AlLL white ...
organized religion is a mechanism of social control that sows false comfort by playing on fears, guilt and insecurity. quite diabolical.
amen to that bonkler,
There was a Protestant pastor, who said something to the effect that this time they(Nazis) came for Jews/gypsies/homosexuals etc. next time it could be for us, therefore we should fight against discrimination. Next time, 'they' could interpret the Bible to say we can't marry redheads, or short people ...
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
speaking from personal experience
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
Daykats - remember 'lifelong bachelors'
exactly!
well.. I don't know about those short people...
Two things to consider -consenting adults and not hurting yourself or others.
well most conservative people want to control what goes on in everyone's bedrooms
those are ususally the guys who get caught with hookers and expense accounts
Rururocks - that's why I'm still unmarried - I've shrunk over 4inches since I came to America
lol
And what EXACTLY is wrong with short people, Ruru? ((pulling self up to full height of 5'4")) ;)
funny how the conservatives and bible belt states seem to have the highest rates of divorce and infidelity.
*drags over platform for christine and NB*
He;s so bigoted - one of those 5'5" giants
lol Ruru, I'll stick with my soapbox.
lol, like our deep south 'friend' who blamed that nasty hooker for his 'sins'
Oy Bonkler - I'm divorced but was never infidelious!!
Hi, all
wel...this is more of a stage nb
ty fo id clue. got it.

Hello sixty7stang13!How are you?Welcome to the grid
PSSSSST!
Bye-bye Daykat
Yes...funny that they will let a straight couple be married for all the wrong reasons, but won't let a gay couple be married for the right ones!
Goodbye daykat! I will see you tomorrow in the chat!
well that is sort of the situation in the Palin family no?

Bristol fell in love with a hockey player (druggie) and now they don't know what the puck they are doing

I am good Min. How are you.
hi Minver, I am well, hope you are too
lol Ruru. makes me think of that movie that was made during the campaign..."Who's Nailin' Palin?"
The Palins--Let's put the "fun" back in dysfunctional

hi, jes. Long time!
hmm, what happened to my ty to ru?
I am returned - did I miss anything on which I would have an impotant and insightful comment?
goodnight NB
Sleep well, NB, God bless.
still around, ruru? i never got to my favorite bible verses before i left work...
hi pam :)
What is your Bible verse, Jesdraggon?
Ephesians 5:22, but not for itself. For the sake that everyone always ignores 5:25...
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
but they always leave off: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
so to make it a fair bargain (and you can't have a bargain if you only have half of it!) the husband has to be willing to be nailed to a post and hang for 3 days and 3 nights. or how can he possibly expect the wife to obey him?
bbl
bye,pam
0oops, almost fell off the bed, reaching for the Bible. Verses 28 & 29 are also important.
finished! this one wasn't as bad as yesterday's - but sure hope tomorrow's is smaller
yes... but nobody ever quotes them, Christine. I couldn't begin to count how many times I've heard 5:22, maybe with 5:23 too, but nothing past it
WNDER WHAT HAPPENED TO GREMLIN????
too much pick and choose and only quote out the verses that are convenient :P
HOPE HE IS OK
he shows as being online S'smom
teamward
I'm off for supper, be back for flip

Gonna look for my missing words.
YAY for flosey!!! I have to go and get supper too, with 17 left -- then rush out to bridge. Back after the flip, hoping for a smaller one too.

Hi stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Min, I am always better when I see you!
greetings all. How goes it tonight?
hey Minski!
Hello Minski! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
OK. I'll fess up. I've been lurking for a while and babbling away but now I need some help.
I am missing the first TE6/18. The one just after those things in your mouth. Does anyone have it please?
LOL go for it Minski, and if you have the Di 6/27, we can consider it a trade
okay, thinking about TE
te + do ** me + echo the first two letters
thanks LBD
Sorry, I don't have it Stid.
that's okay Minski, it's always worth asking!
di6.27 sounds like a city in North Carolina, or chewing tobacco, Bull d(u)i****
hope your day has gone well? Mine has had some nice moments, but feeling like a very bad mama right now
thanks LBD
got it!
you a bad mama? never!
I am stopping at 163 words and 2003 points.Bye to all
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow
night night, Min
sweet dreams Min. see you tomorrow!
Thanks lbd. Got it.
actually, maybe. elder stidkid got angry this evening, took off on his bike after I explained how hot it was, refused to say where he was going. I made enough tamales for me, tom and the other stidkid... if he wants tamales he can make them when he gets home. *sad mama look*
glad to hang around and clue when needed
I just hope that he took enough liquids and doesn't get into trouble. *sigh*
ahhh, not a bad mama, just a learning situation for stidkid1
(((LBD))) I needed that thanks. Today seems to be my day for getting my hand held...
well, you certainly will be holding a lot of young hands in the teaching situation. I'm glad I can be he4 for you.
LAST SH 5 please?
it's a name sounds like sean
*gasp* how could I miss THAT???? (thanks)

GAH!!!! here fishy fishy fishy!
>*))<<
Of course I'll help...but I just got started! All the kids at school ask me to make my monkey face. :)
what grade do you teach, Magyk?
at8?
rofl.... kids, monkey face, orangutan....
5th grade
a + definite article + preposition go ** the movies + opposite of ego
5th grade is a grand age!
a + *** end + al****s...the strongest little breath mint
thank you for the clue! and yes 5th grade is wonderful...I have so much fun.
that's a great age group to be with. keeps you young, and it's okay to be silly with them
I sure hope so because I'm quite a silly person...all the time.
down to two.
one is definitely fishy, the other possibly so.
go stiddy!
one....
firewords. and they were definitely fishy
whooooo hoooooo STIDDY!!
thanks for the help tonight LBD
no problem, stid.
half way and saying goodnight! thank you for the clues and laughs. :)
how is your family doing these days?
sweet dreams Magyk, see you again soon!
night night, Magyk
family is doing okay, i guess. haven't talked to the grands in a while. they keep busy
are classes done for the summer?
sure. it's rough to stay connected unless you are involved in real-time activities, I find.
I am tired. made tamales this evening, by myself since I was the only one home. Hoping they turned out okay. I cheated and used carnitas from the store instead of making my own filling.
they sound yummy!
hi, babblers!
hey welki!
hi welki!
I think they will taste fine. There is a recipe for a "pumpkin pie" style tamale -- dessert/snack of course. THinking I might try that next time.
May I please have a clue for di7-32? Thanks
enjoying a quiet night here .. other half is away on biz, so i spent the evening READING .. ahhh, blessed quiet! (caveat: cannot live without him, but this is nice once in a while)
quiet is nice
prefix for not + percentage **** on mortgages are still low
like the movie bull du**** (ends with porky meat)
hey peach
oops, wrong di
Hey there, stidmama.
i hear ya, welki. i love my quiet down time! i love my hubz too, but he's got to have noise on all the time!
the di 5 is like raleigh-du**** north carolina
my tom just puts his ipod thingy in his pocket and hie earbuds in when I am at home.
that way we can be together but I don't need to hear the things he listens to.
mine, too .. a radio, the television. when there's other noise, it's as if my head can't process everything going on, like when two people are trying to talk on either side of you. q.u.i.e.t. i love it :)
i'm starting to fade...well not starting, been fading in and out all evening, so going to go get ready for bed. see you all tomorrow.
sweet dreams LBD. thanks again. ((hugs))
i listen to people talking all day. when i come home, i really like my quiet time
Have that one, stidmama, thanks. Just need the last di.
g'night dawg
oh, that's the one that LBD clued
at di***** i'll be in bed before he knows i'm there! lol
the last one, dawg clued
lol
poof
Oh, thanks, I just buzzed right over it....Thanks Ibdawger.
how's the babble-meet shaping up, stid?
seems like there are a few happening .. one or two on the east coast, one in your neck of the woods. time for the canadian contingency to get their acts together!
not much yet welki, I think I will do some reconnaissance tomorrow or Wednesday. Only about ten people have actually expressed interest, so it's easy to find a venue
(flippin' air fare is so expensive compared to inter-u.s. flights)
absolutely time for the canadians to do a babble event!
there's at least one other here in calgary .. helensgirlkid (i think that's her name), but i don't 'know' her well at all
er8?
funny thing about that welki... *grin* have found that as soon as I am with another babbler that we are almost as good as family! has been most interesting
shirlock: you'd have it er* now, if you took **** (possessive article) + camel-like letter
and plural for the ER 9
that's a two-hump camel, btw
er8 = poetic before + a****** (no belief in a higher power) + plural
but no E in the higher power word, welki
i've organized a couple of internet gatherings .. they do work out well ;)
I am just dreading being an event planner again. Last summer's big meeting at the college worked out, but it was nerve-wracking.
sure there is
I am much happier with the small size of this one!
ohhh, i see what you mean
okay, got it, thx for the er clues
<-- no help
anyway... I am outta here for now. see you tomorrow?
have a peaceful evening, stid
see you! *poof*
shirl, i'm a native new yorker .. where in the city do you live?
i live in brooklyn actually
are you in TO welki?
ahh ... i was born in maimonides
and i know where that is!
rh6?
i've been *exploring* BK, want to buy eventually so doing a LOT of walking
calgary, alberta (lived in bensonhurst, bay ridge, sheepshead bay and canarsie .. then moved to queens and then to nj (even went to kingsborough for a while!)
when did you move?
to canada? 1997
rh --- think, "that's a rh****ical question"
rh+ vowel + most of the t4 for ripped

hmmm, when removed, can they still play baseball?
just a bit of knowledge i've accrued from being a diehard red sox fan....oh yes, quite well....david ortiz doesn't have that bone, for one
some players say it actually helps their swing because they have more flexibility in the wrist without the bone
ah, hubby has been a Cardinals fan since he was very young kid
good team to be a fan of
Does anyone have the MA7&8? The 1st 2 MA words?

<-- was pleased to get er8/9 at all :-)
well.. gotta go. 95 left. Tim wants puter.
Bye, m9
Jellen: I was still 0/2 there fairly late and I thought it was probably a long word that I was missing, probably something with a plural for there to be 2, so I tried stuff that ended at the bottom and used certain common suffixes
tried a whole bunch of -ism, -ish, and -oid possibilities throughout the puzzle
I can monkey shorter words through point count and logic, but longer word usually elude me...
one of my last 6 was a four letter word
May I please have a clue for si6-18 the 1st? Thanks
ta 5/16, please?
si6/18 is a plural of previous si5/10
ta5/16 = teacher's word for "late for class"
Of course! Thanks, grem
Don't have that one grem, but thanks anyway.
May be back later...
si5/10 = *** or Madam, plus Egyptian sun god
Thanks so much, gremlinn.
Thanks so much, gremlinn.

it's sort of like H2O
i cant get that wa 8 either. tough one.
wa***y is not in dict. strange.
ahhh, got it, thanks grem
depends on what the *** is
gortmold, so need a clue. is the first 5 letters the h2o? or not?
yes mkg
the *** is the h2o stuff.
mkg, it does work - might be the game screwing up again
last 3 letters are kind of slangy for "sort of" or "almost but not exactly"
ty got it.
jolly good, did you hurt some neurons?
whew! Firewords . . . off to take pups out to pee -- nite, all! *poof*
well done une
neurons transmit pain signals but don't initiate them, as far as I know
unless you just mean "damage" them
si6-18 the 2nd please.....thanks
change last two letters of first si6/18 to vowels
NM found it....fireworks...thanks for all the help.
hello everyone :)
hi nan
