It was really interesting, lynxxx. They were able to trace back one ancestor who was a convict and then one, William Cox, who had come out as a soldier in charge of convicts but who had stayed on and had helped build a road through the Blue Mountains.
What is staggering is the amount of information that is retained. He also had a great-grandmother (on his mother's side) who had been a singer in Melbourne.
The sad thing is that he and his mother are completely estranged. They haven't spoken for years.

FM - Joburg rocks but it's not the prettiest place in the country. I was brought up in Cape Town
september is my favorite,you wear a light jacket or sweater till 11 am or so and then it comes off,the leaves on our maple tree turn colours as the hardwood tree display their fall dress for us and the wind off the water scrubs the air so clean,you can see for miles across the bay and it put a dab of rouge in my ladies cheeks as the leaves fall in her long hair...

Hi all. Just wanted to say, I may have told this story before, that when my Mum went to collect my Dad's ashes, she didn't tell me and went down the village alone to get them. She took a shopping basket to put the red plastic 'urn' (more like a big coffee jar) in. She also needed to get a loaf of bread, so did so and popped it on top of my Dad's remains. As she was waiting to go over the zebra crossing, someone she vaguely knew came up and asked, 'How's your husband doing?' She had this tremendous urge to say, 'Well, he's dead, actually, but if ou want to see him, he's here under this loaf.'
She also told me he was far heavier in that plastic bottle in her shopping bag than he was in life when she had to lift him, carry him etc.

Jellen - when you get back - as for nagging him or 'talking to him', as we women would call it - you can do that whether he's in his urn with you or scattered/buried. Men! They think they escape us through death, but they don't. Love keeps them coming back to keep an eye on things, to make sure we're okay and not 'making a mess of things'. You just wait until you are trying to do something that Tim would have known all about or how to do... he'll find a way of helping you.
You might even hear him laughing at ou if you get it wrong.
No one every really 'goes' while someone still remembers them. It's 'just' the real life hugs and eye contact that we miss. And, boy, do we miss those! Keep your memory and imagination alive to not lose that completely.
I hope I haven't overstepped the mark by saying all of that. I can only say what I feel or have experienced.

Tell you what, those furry cattle are b*ggers to dictate to. If you want to move docile dairy cattle around, it's fairly easy... follow the leader and all that. Not so with the ginger highlanders - they go every which way but the one that you want them to, men and dogs ignored.

jmc - I do have to say that Welsh Blacks ar nearly as irksome as the hairy highland cattle and are probably more bad-tempered. How would a Masai Warrior with his lion scaring colours do against one of those? Again, not very well, methinks. Cattle and Cats are very different.

I don't have much time for the Masai, because they think themselves abvoe other tribes/neighbours.

Well, I think the discipline comes with age, it's just the concept of reality they need. I see too many that land in college and 'party' out. It's seeing how other people really live or exist...
actually i raised my son to be self disciplined -- which is different from taking orders -- and he is capable of getting things done when there is chaos (including his mother around him) -- don'tknow enough about Katimavik to comment

I get to see a number of teacher candidates working during the year ... you can always tell the ones who have two or three years of life outside of the school system from those who have spent their entire life in school
I went straight thru, but did ok, took a break after marriage to be a stay at home mom...don't ever regret that!
