hi Trif, good job. Shall I send over some sweet sleeping angels or shall I drop by with a rubber hammer?
hmmm. hammer time, I think
work is gonna stink tomorrow, at this rate, and I am on for six hours
thought so :) *KABOFFFFFF!*
that will stink for sure, on so little sleep
I have a relapse of the flu, it seems. Which stinks too, because tomorrow we want to go to a friend of ours at the other side of the country, who is celebrating her 50st b/day. But if things don't improve fast, we will have to cancel.
oh no sprite! I am so sorry to hear that.
you have surely been struggling with the flu this season!
I really really hate it, don't want to disappoint her.
I guess I better get my flu shot next ye4 again...
but on the other hand, if you are contagious still, the flu makes a HORRIBLE birthday gift! I am sure she would much rather see you when you are healthy. she is your friend, and wants the best for you
yes you are right. I definitely don't want to make others ill. But darn, 50 comes only on4! Ah well, enough about it, can't change reality. Just have to adapt.
ask yourself: would you be furious with her if the roles were reversed? disappointed, sure, of course, but wouldn't you rather she visited you when she was well, if it were the other way around?
can't stay awake, off to bed, good night all
lucky flosey! wishing you and excellent night's sleep
ty trif
night flosey
yes, I would, Trif, you are totally right. I discussed it with my love too and we decided to wait until noon. If things are much better then, we go. If not, we cancel.
will keep good thoughts for you, my dear sprite
and I for you! I wish you could sleep easier, things would be so much better to handle then.
i am not even particularly stressed, either. just can't sleep

I don't know. I tried cous too, thinking it might be some kind of allowable French word.
I was surprised that "cosm" is not allowed
I guess it's only a suffix

Hello, Car.ee :-)
Hi Zooz!@
Hope you are well, Car.ee :-)
I am very sleep, but hanging in Zooz!
Bless you, get yourself a cup of coffee.
Having one now! Woke up late, so I had to rush to get the boys on the bus...so now I am trying to clear the fuzz from my head!
How are you this morning?
I guess we should chog quietly so we don't wake the other babblers, eh?
not too bad here thanks :-)
Yes it has been rather eerie today.
Getting more coffee...can I get you something?
Hi everyone. I just got here actually, it is my first day off after 6 days of ER hell....so I am still in recovery mode, about to start packing for the weekend.
I have just had lunch & got tea..but thank you.
Hello, Red, hope the weekend is going to be a great one for you :-)
I hope so, I am running my first Marathon
Hello Babble buddies. Wow, Red! That's 26.2 miles!
Oh wow..i think you will do good..you have trained for a while now..so GO..Red..GOOO
yes, Scrabbler, it is. the 0.2 at the end will undubitibaly be the worst.
Hello, Scrabs :-)
Hi Scrabbs!
Well, what is the time limit for finishing?
6 hrs, but...of course, 6 hrs for a Marathon is a dismal time. it is also very likely going to be my time, as I am not as well trained as I would have liked because of last years injury.
But, Lots of friends and good times, so I just have to get over the time concern.
It would take me about 6 hrs to walk it. I am NOT a runner. Riding my mountain bike would be fun.
Hey Red! Morning all!
Nah..i think you will do well, Red.
Hello, Champ :-)
And you gain experience, Red. Hi Champ.
Hi All. zooz, It will probably take me 6 hours to run it, I am just not entirely prepared for the distance!
Hi Champ!!!
we are of course talking some running.
Sitting here watching news coverage of the icy conditions here in Houston...the city has come to a standstill. Goofballs!
Amazing weather in Texas!
Red, best of luck this weekend. Your Babble Family will all be cheering for you.
Goodness! I should step away more often! Look at the crowd!
So silly...the schools are closed, and my kids will be crawling up the wall any minute.
Thanks Molly. I just want to do it and be done with it...it may turn out to be sort of fun for the first half!
Go, Red, Go!!!
Stop doubting yourself , Red, Take it easy at first and you will flow nicley :-)
Hi Molly
No doubt zooz, but I know my speed and what I am capable of, in the end it is not a big deal. I dont get a raise or a promotion...I get a silly piece of metal...but I do get to spend time with my friends!
Red, it's always fun the first half. The second half you just go with it and finish.
OK i predict..erm..3 hours 10 mins.
Oooooh...then she'd be a Boston qualifier...wooHOO! ;)
thanks Champ. I will nto be qualifying for Boston, any time ever.
If anyone is doing the Boston Marathon this year, please let Trif and I know! We will come and cheer you on!
Me either. Have you considered going with a pace group? Talk to the at the Expo. It can help, if they've got the same race plan you do.
I'm running htis one because of all the friends coming (I am an awesome recruiter!) but my main goal is another one iN Npvember. No pace groups at Melbourne...
A pace group would help a lot.
I do have someone who will run with me, but I wish he wouldnt since he is pretty fast, and I can be turtle like.
Oh...darn! One of my friend's PR this past weekend by using a pacer through mile 23 or so who was a little slower, then she took off when she felt better. Worked like a charm.
Make a pact that he'll leave you when you tell him to!
Good idea, Champ.
What a great idea!
I think I am going to have him run the first half with our friend who is doing the half, and by then I will be so far behind he will nto find me...
I just dont quite have the marathon base, but in November 2011, I shall, and it will be great! Do you want to run in Arkansas Champ?
Smart! Because at the beginning he'll be pushing you too fast, even without trying.
Just for the record, I will not be running in the Boston Marathon this year. However, should I ever be in the area, I will meet Car and Trif at Cheers. : P
Sounds good to me Molly!
I am a great runner in my dreams.
cool molly!
me too scrabbs!!!
LOL, Scrabs
Hello everyone
Cheers! Much more fun that running!
Hello, Lynxxx :-)
Hi Lynxxx!
I am not even a runner in my dreams. Even my "dream knees" know that they are walking joints, not running joints.
Running makes my boobs hurt...there, now you know.
Car, didn't you know you have to duct tape them to your chest before you run? : P
lol
Wear 2 sports bras...it works. Not that I have that problem...believe me!
its also really nice to have cheerers.
Running causes me facial trauma because of my bouncing girls.
I wear either the Enell bra that Oprah wore when she ran, or the maia brad from Moving comfort the 2 bra thing gets heavy..
I`m afraid i will have to cheer you from here, Red..but cheer i will.
Duct tape--great idea.
I will put my 4 years of cheerleading to good use here in Babble Land for you Red!!!
Although I will NOT be doing any splits at this age!
ou4.7 when you take it off though
I appreciate all the good wishes. I am mostly looking forward to seeing my friends and meeting Frank Shorter and having a weekend at the beach.
No Splits, Car, I am sooo disapointed!
Red, I have a friend who swears by Title 9 sports bras...
Hi Lynxxx--true!
You at least have to buy me a drink afterwards....
Oh poor Scrabs. Injured by her own bouncing mammaries. : P
...and promise to call the next day!
I tested a buch of bras for fleet feet about 3 years ago...I have all the bras they sold at the time...but I dont know that i tried title nine.
LOL Car!
^5 Scrabs!
I think you can find them online only. Google 'em.
I might have to try em..
Shouldn't that be tiTTle 9?
good one car!
OMG!
NBT!
Good going, Car.ee!
Haha. As I continue to lose weight my girls will shrink. I used to be able to wear a sports bra but now....the dreaded uniboob.
dang....i have blanks all over the place...must be more methodical....
good luck, red!!!
Hi Annie
and hello everyone
Hello, Annnie :-)
hi scrabbs
hello everybody
I find my uniboob in a sports bra sometimes comes in handy as a shelf...
hi Annie
the first place it goes, for sure scrabs
Hi Ruby! Hi Annie!
Hello, Ruby :-)

{{annie, car.ee, champ, scrabbs, zzoozz}}

hi annnie
and LYNXX!
It is nice to see you all here!
Hello Ruby. How is your husband?
(((ruby))) how is your hubby?
Rubyfoo, how is your husband? And how are you coping? Any warme, in your house?
ruby! update please!
Hello, Christine :-)
Oh my! I am out of the loop...Ruby what is happening?
Hi Christine!
Hello, all -- a verrrry late sign on, today.
christine, I read Cutting for Stone and I loved it, thanks for recommending it to me
Hi Ruby and Christine
Abraham Verghese
this is a hilarious chog! I never had those problems when I was a runner so it's funny to read about.
scrabbs, did you read it
Lovely, huh? Just finished American Rose, by Karen Abbott, about Gypsy Rose Lee
I'm just back from the hospital where I brought husband food, specially prepared by the local Italian restaurant, fruit, expresso, newspaper, etc. and he was in a really foul mood, was feeling exhausted
Anniebrook, I have a list of good books, keep meaning to email it to you.
ruby, bet that perked him up though!
Just finished "At Home" by Bill Bryson. It was good, but he is usually funnier. Now I am in search of something funny.
Ruby...why is he in the hospital?
christine, when you get a ch6, I would look forward to it
No, but it's on my list, and I have read some essays by Dr Verghese, regarding the practice of medicine and teaching medical students and residents.
he still has a fever and they won't let him go until they can clear that up. I was in tears talking to his doctor, but she said she didn't think he was dying.....
Hi mom2--I love Bill Bryson.
car: he has pneumonia
ruby, that's more than they tell you a lot of the time, so let's go with it!
Hi Scrabbs... how are you... I have not been on in ages and ages.
Oh Ruby! Hang in there! I am sending hugs and prayers.
sorry ruby... hope he recovers soon.
((((Ruby))))
thank you mom2han
I will stop monopolizing the chog now, instead will start writing down all these book names
I usually laugh out loud when I read Bill Bryson. While this one was amusing it was no "Walk in the Woods" or "In a Sunburned Country"... my two favorites!
you aren't monopolizing...we want to know
I bought a Bill Bryson book for my husband last year and he wouldn't read it but I found it charming
Ruby....if we can talk about our boobs, you certainly can talk about your husband!!!!1
I was just about to say the same thing!
Christine can you put your recommendations in your babble bio?
Indeed RUby we do want to know how the Husband is doing.
Ruby, if you go to Amazon.com and find a book you enjoyed, there will be a list of similar books to read over. That is how I find great books.
Anniebrook -Spies of the Balkans, by Alan Furst; The Cookbook Collector, by Allegra Goosman; and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, by Aimee Bender
thank you all, I am truly touched!
hi all, back at last
sprite!!!!!
4th column C is annoying me. Help please?
Hello, Spritey!
Hi Sprite
Yes, Scrabbs, I do that... they just recommended Ian Frazier to me... so I requested some of his stuff from the library.
Not there yet Scrabbs
hi sprite. Did your flu symptoms recede enough for you to make your trip?
Major third or minor fifth for example
Give him a hug from us, and a b-i-g hug for you.
I've only read Ian Frazier in the New Yorker and I think he is wonderful.
Sorry, that was for Rubyfoo.
ch5 musical tones
hi Spritey!
hi rubyfoo, no, alas not, am having a relapse. Darn. Already called my friend and she was so disappointed. I feel really bad about it.
he can be very funny but he also is wonderful at describing his travels
No such thing as a minor fifth - it is a diminished fifth
hi lyn :)
aren't fifths for drinking?
sprite: what's important is for you to be well!
That would be a perfect fifth.
Hi can anyone clue the an6/24 plz? Sure I'm missing something really obvious.
ch4.6 is the other. TY Zooz
ye4 but my friend is very important to me too.
Hello, Godthaab :-)
ok... so what is the other 4th colulmn c? Anyone?
Hello
thanks, christine
yw, Lynxxx :-)
an6 is what you need to keep a ship in one place
what you throw out of a boat so it wont move is the an6
an6 keeps a ship or boat in position
good morning everyone
other c there is C + first 3 letters of what bees make
ty for an, river, and hello
hi Riverdance
ch + opp to off
Hi River!
Oh of course it is!!! I wasn't following the right pattern. Thanks a lot.
wow - boobs and books - what a discussion today
ty sprite
not that it's convoluted or anything....
LOL..hello, River :-)
((Ruby)) hope you are hanging in there
I finally got that major fifth clue. I was looking for CHIME.
Hi River
Sorry Godthaab!
just read back about your husband, rubyfoo, I hope his fever will subside soon.
happily, it is a beautiful, warm day
bitter cold this morning at -6 but at least no snow - calling for another 8 inches tomorrow -yikes
The chat log is flying now!
warm? where are you? It is freezing in NJ... just freezing.
and the housekeeper left a fire burning for me for coming home
Bye everyone...we are on mini flood watch here - my turn to sleep
very thoughtful of her
Finally NBT and I am at 77/77, so I need a break. BBL
France, in the mountains, but it's above 40F and we face south, so it's lovely and warm in the sun
Oh Ruby! That does sound nice!
bye lynxxx - good luck
ohh, poor lynxx, {{big hug}}
Take care, Lynxxx..hope it stays safe for you.
Lovely Ruby
Lynxxx...get some rest. Keep us posted when you can. Hugs & prayers to you too!
bye lyn, take care and I hope all will be well!
are you french, Ruby? Your english is perfect.
no, but thank you, I am from NY! retired here
I was going to say! Nice place to retire, I would imagine.
my Fr is getting better, especially having to deal with all these medical issues
My language skills are very poor, though. I still have some of the syntax down in French and Spanish... but everything has to happen now... tenses confuse me, LOL.
Ok need to go..enjoyed the chog talk..take care, All...and happy babbling.
bye zoom
bye zooz, all the best *hugs*
we had to learn 16 tenses in high school, but I only use about 6 in real life!
bye zooz - have a great day
{{zzoozz}}
bye zooz
I made coffee, anyone
please, with hot milk, no sugar!
yes please
I am sure I learned them, but I have blocked the horror of it out of my memory,LOL... the guys at work laugh at me because I mix the spanish and the french... if I don't remember the spanish word I just insert the french one.. LOL.
must make some breakfast for kiddos...bb
I was never able to learn Spanish as I would always slip into French in class
Zoozzoom, did you get the book titles or shall I post them in my profile?
I took spanish in HS and college and then french in college. Why? I have no idea, LOL... I have a degree in HIstory, for God's sakes!
*pours coffee for ruby with hot milk,, nosugar and for river in a nice prewarmed mug
even living in Miami for years
yum - thank you Annie
from what school, mom, and what period of history is your specialty?
The syntax is similar.
thank you annie!
Ramapo College; Early American (Colonial to about 1820).
so you didn't need European languages at all.....
To be more specific it was American legal history that interested me the most.
If I had done graduate work I would have needed the french... I would have had to translate Montesquieu, Rousseau, etc.
Though now with all of the translation programs available I do not know if that is still a requirement; the translating from the primary source material.
I have to be off now too! Have a great day everyone! {{ruby}}
bye car
bye, car.eeyore
I think so, m2h8. The translation programs can only do so much and for legal work a nuance of a word can be important
bye car - have a great day
bye car.
That is true, Sprite.
Anniebrook, I forgot one really great book - The Invisible Bridge, by Julie Orringer
christine, just put it on my list, thanks
hi all. any clues for the 8s out there?
past tense of what is on a tree... br8/65

time for breadfast - see you all later - hugs to everyone
bye Riverdance, enjoy breakie
later, river
not a word. what does it mean robu?
{{river}}
oops i meant ruby not robu,.
robu is ok, just kidding, tho
if you add on to the ch5 veg, you have another veg in French
a kind of thistle, related to artichoke
fireflies, back to bed with me. Bye all, have fun. Tell your husband hi from me, rubyfoo, and I am thinking of both of you.
ty sprite, take care of yourself!!!!
bye sprite and feel better
The other 8 is de8...it means your general attitude..builds off of de6/24
great clue, Molly
ty ty molly!
didn't even have to find it, just typed the word!
rubyfoo, how many letters in the French vegetable?
7, but enable doesn't know it!! :(
Thank you, dearie
it's not very tasty, anyway, and they make it in this region dripping with cheese....yuck
Won't accept, right?
right
enable is really inconsistent about foreign foods
I'm still struggling to get half and/or nbt!
lots of wild west words
good morning and bonjour!
hello jbv :)
bonjour JBV!\
yay, half, now I can go and lie down (but still no nbt)

ruby, bobby came by himself yesterday,,,the ice is not as bad as it was..supposed to be a decent weekend
ah, thanks, molly
that is better than you driving on ice!!!
nu 5/16...like a taco chip, different second letter, then give it a Latin plural

Different second and LAST ending, sorry
molly, that was on the tip of my tongue! hahah
molly, THAT I would not have gotten, thanks
The ab words are the ones that have me grumpy this morning.
81 words now and very happy
you are never grumpy!
phone

It made me slightly dizzy finding an 6/24
and plural
good morning/afternoon everyone :)

hi all
hi jmc :)

Good morning, Babblers.
hi judi
hello all
nbt, need a 7 letter word for nbs pls
hi peri, judi
hi peri
does anyone have the clues for the 8 letter words?? please
Did you just get the big pink slip, jmc??
past tense of where the cowboys live peri
de8 is your attitude
I have one that's past tense of br6/30
past tense of the arms of a tree

i just woke up this morning in a panic because last night i was looking at prospective jobs to apply for and i hated them all
ty for br8
cant you just stay on the board
*nodding* Sucks to have no viable prospects.
belated hi river
thanks for the clues!
uh the board doesn't pay and i am not on the board i am the employee
i was okay when there were lots of prospects in Quakerland and a few in some other areas but as I apply for these jobs and always make the cut until the very end. . .
judi i think you hit the nail on the head so i am just going to calm down now
dont give up - those just werent meant for you
that is what i keep telling myself
I imagine it's hard to keep a positive attitude.
most of the time i am clear and positive and know that i will get what God wants to do . . .
but some days. . . .
we understand...
hi
((JMC))
hello herin
hi herin

We are not but I had to take my shoes off when we were out
why herin?
I live in Victoria but because Cyclone Yasi is about the size of Texas we got the tail end of it in Vic. Very wet

lol LORD NO judi
jmc is a smart woman
i was quite the hot chick when i was younger
very few of them were proposing to my brains
lol. Still, that's a lot of proposals.

an6 - Popeye's tattoo
Hello Haz :)
Hello, Annie and everyone.
Afternoon Haz and greetings all.
hi and welcome!
Greetings, FM!
Am finding this grid akin to treacle.
Good afternoon, FM.
On the upside there are snowdrops flowering just over the wall in the churchyard and 2 crocus are showing their colour in my garden!
ty for an clue. got it.
what a pretty picture you paint, FM
I spotted the first snowdrops a day or two ago but nothing more colourful here so far.
lol just a shame it is blowing a gale and rather grey. Hope you are bearing up with the snow etc Annie?
dirty piles of snow here. I cant wait for the buds on the trees to start showing
Haz, has the wind quietened down for you now?
It's not as bad as it was yesterday but still a bit stormy. I'm hoping it clears up as no2 daughter has a friend coming across for the weekend and it would be nice for her to not be blown away.
lol
Some ferry crossings have been cancelled but she's flying so should be okay.
urgh might be a bit bumpy up there.
I know, not pleasant.
bo 5 16 second one: cant get it. please clue.
Whisper it softly but the printer is behaving beautifully, churning out stuff with admirable cooperation. I'm babbling while printing while waiting for the dryer to finish.
ssshhh
mkg...is it like Buy One Get One? an extra treat or prize?
bo5/16 - bo plus first letters of what sits on top of your shoulders.
love that multi-tasking
'whispers - good printer'
I'd be even better if I could get Spangle onto a treadmill at the same time.
Hi Champ and wv
hi!
and hitch the treadmill up to the dryer thus saving pwer at the same time :)
ooooooh,...clever
champ that is not it. have that one. what is between shoulders and head: i am not getting it to work with those letters. first three letters of that word right? or do i change vowel?
Exactly. We need a modern Heath Robinson or else Wallace and Gromit.
mkg, what sits on top of your neck? bo plus first letters.
Sorry mkg...haven't listed yet, so gave you the second of what I had.
Stupid B's!
Or bo plus first letters of Paul McCartney's ex of blessed memory.
Gold digger...nope, that won't work. : P
lol Molly. Thanks Haz.
You've got the general idea...
that's the second one molly!
Good clues Haz. Inferior tea? Never heard of it.
wasnt her name linda mc
His 2nd wife mkg not the 1st
Nope making. That was the first wife. Second wife had the last name of Mills.
That was his first wife, he had a second. She was less popular.
got it! ty ty.
top gray...
Note how good I am at understatement.
A LOT less popular. TONS.
dint know second wife died too.
She didn't die, they divorced.
time to dye your hair then kje *grin*
She didn't. He divorced her.
He just didn't appreciate her.
I thought you were very diplomatic Haz.
lol fm
already do highlights and lowlights.... dying is only a few years away, I am sure
Thank you, FM. I'm sure she probably monitors all chat logs for mentions.
bye everyone
been dying since I was 25, since I went gray then.
bye annie - stay warm
Bye Annie, have a good day.
Hello all. just saying hi whilst packing for my running weekend!
Bye, Annie. Have a good day.
Oh yes - good luck red!
Hello, red. All the best for the run!
Hi Red. Sending good running vibes your way.
knock 'em dead red!
Hope you have better weather than I had sunday. It was warm and muggy. fingers crossed for you!!!
Hello, all. I'd rather have grey hair than die! ;)
Vi!!!!! Hello :)
That's how mine is Vicuna!
its supposed to be 50-70. so I bet it starts at 60 and ends up 80...not too bad as long as I run fast and dont run into the 80's.
Good to see you all!
thanks all.
GAH!!!! Water up!
Well, luckily I am a floridian, and am used to it being Hot hot hot.
Any Clues for the U words? any at all?
Yeah, mine's tending that way, too, ChampFit. But that bothers me a lot less than the "horrid age spots!" lol
Yikes! Tread water, ChampFit!
phone :(
always wondered why we get the age spots.
red, out of the whopping w that I have...un + run into someone or get together with them, past and present
Hello, Vicuna! Sorry for delayed greeting, I was praising the printer.
sun
blame it on the sun - it's all damage
TY.
Ahh so sun screen kje?
I shall wear it this weekend.
Hello, Haz! Well, you can't let printers' self-esteem get low or there's nothing but trouble.
ancho is not accepted
i tried it too...
lots and lots
Absolutely, Vi. I've got work in store for it and I need to keep on the right side.
I've worn sunscreen diligently since I was 18. I think there's a big genetic component. My mother's spotty, too! =)
How are you and the ToG Vi?
un5 - hasn't been introduced yet
Splendid, splendid, thanks, FM. They've been having lots of snow days off from school, to their delight. We have a spectacular igloo palace in the front yard! How are you?
several composers here today
Talking of sun screen, they're saying over here that children are developing rickets because of lack of Vitamin D. Overly diligent mothers are overdoing things. Of course it might just be a scary headline, British papers have been known to exaggerate ever so slightly.
un7 - hasn't been caught aurally
Looking forward to spring and am ticking along nicely Vi.
that was my last u, vi... ty
un7 = Vicuna's singing voice because of low self-esteem.
that.... ad cuz kids drink soda istead of milk with d
Yeah, I heard that, too, Haz. Not just children are supposedly deficient. But I'm really not that worried. We get plenty of vitamin D milk, plus plenty of outdoor time even with sunscreen.
LOL but thanks Vi and Haz for that clue.
>=P
you only eed about 10 miutes just o your lower arms to do it.... sunscreen is not the problem
Was it Cameron Diaz or someone who discovered that her Vit D levels were horribly low plus her bones were rubbish?
I suspect that the bones of all those models and actresses on perpetual diets are bound to be rubbish. You can't spend your entire adult life under healthy weight and hope to have fabulous bones!
well, let's face it... they aren't gettig paid for their boes
good point.
Or at least not the internal structure of their bones.
Cheekbones! They're handy!
they're cheeky
and it would be a good grid word too.
we can get cheefy. It's almost the same.
all corner o ou?
Someone here. Must go! See you later!
great to see you Vi, bye.
bye vi
No, there's an oc word.
stuck on me 4 5 second one please.
Bye, Vi!
ty
kje-I only have 2 & they are ou
nm got it. duh..............sorry
oc6 - Scots exclamation meets a number
I was told that sunscreen blocks Vitamin D absorption. Not true?
I've got ou4 and 6 from that bottom o
perfect clue, ty
1) you do ot absorb vit D through the skin
Don't forget your imperial weight, FM, ou5.
2) depends on the suscreen
Then what do you absorb it through?
phew tile greyed, thanks.
3) you only need 10 minutes daily on your lower arms to convert enough D - most people get that when doig errands, etc ot even thinkig about sun
you absorb it through your gut
From the sun?
oc 6 please?
the sun converts to active form
HS biology
oc6 - three letters for a Scots exclamation, three letters for a single number.
just clued, mkg - haz gave brilliant clue
just a few short of graying the bottom too
Great clue Haz
You're welcome.
I guess I must have missed that in HS biology. Sorry.
good morning everyone and haz that was a brilliant clue on the oc 6!
Time for a break for me (and my monkeys). TTFN.
Hello, crossy, glad it worked for you!
((FM))
OH hi and bye crossy (())
hello everybody from a cold wet scotland
hi jac! same here
Hello, jacq. Ditto from over here.
miserable weather have the lights on already
dont know scots exclamation.
Molly-maybe this will help-Vitamin D absorption from the sun is not actually accurate because we do not absorb vitamin D from the sun. Instead, our skin produces vitamin D upon sun exposure.
*** aye the noo
what time is it there, jac?
nm got it.
3:45
like 4ish or so?
lights have been on since 3
Okay, absorb was the wrong word. What does that have to do with your gut?
I don't think anything-
wow, close guess
Thank you Scribe.
not bad guess kje
you're welcome
Happy Friday, Babblers..
And to you, Aloy.
TGIF Alow
Or Aloy
(-: good to see you Haz
it's the start of the weekend and they usually go by so quickly and you always seem to have so much more to cram into those 2 days
Super Bowl weekend here
Is it the one where the entertainment is almost as important as the sport?
For most of us, time to make fattening food and root for teams we have rooted against all year. : D
lol molly
I'm rooting for a team, mainly bc it is opposing a team I don't root for.. makes sense, um hum
well put molly, but it's nice to let your hair down now and again
I will not watch
yes, Haz.. the commercials are the major entertainment
Haz, Superbowl commercial ad time is something like three million per minute.
ad will try to avoid the crazy crowds here
if the super bowl gets boring-go to animal planet & watch the puppy bowl-cute--with a kitty half-time show
hope the weather in Dallas is more hospitable?
Dear goodness, that's a LOT of money. Are the commercials that worth watching?
Aloy, that is how I am rooting as well.
(-: Molly, I hope your team starts with a G?
lol scribe that sounds like a good laugh
Some of the commercials are very clever Haz.
it is worth the swith over-
best commercials are usually from budweiser. love those clydesdales
switch*
The 2010 Superbowl Commercials are on YouTube.
speaking of footbal, fially found the denver mascot/s
wtg, kje

mmmm - have fun wv
h'mm, just discovered that you can shorten that mascot, kje
yep - it nicely knocks out lots of b's
b's banished
good morning, all
how's the weather in sunny Florida, Aloy?
ok, my walls are done... going to go find food - bbl
hi trent.. right now it is super duper, but I have not mentioned it.. feeling bad for my northern friends and neighbors
later, kje
Bye, kje.
Afternoon everyone. Last word ....SO 6, any clues, please?
not to mention it was -17 degrees in Los Lunas yesterday.. (one son lives there)
yes, I can imagine you are feeling bad for them!
hi everyone!
snowed in, can't drive even if they dig their car out.. black ice
4th day of school canceled
my daughter is a 1st grade teacher in Michigan - they are on their 3rd snow day
well, in my hometown in Ohio, they have exceeded their snow days and will have to make them up
sorry, Lizmac-don't have any so's
I don't have it yet, either, sorry
We had ice. Snow usually doesn't stop us. I went to school yesterday and there was still 3inches of ice on the parking lot
ice is the worst!
sorry lizmac, don't have it yet
Scribe, there's only one and I can't find it grrrrr.
so6 - looks like males who like most of footwear (not shoe)
I've been monkeying-with no luck!
thank you, Haz!
You're welcome.
great clue
ty!
Oc**** !!! Thanks. Fireworks.
ty
yay for lizmac, congrats!
ya y lizmac!
Congratulations, liz!
way to go, Lizmac!
Ice Day!
snow day!
hi sg.. happy or sad about that?
You say that with a certain amount of glee!
happy
ok, yay for Ice Day!
extra day off and I can babble and do my tax paperwork
science I forget, houston or dallas?
however,one day will be plenty
wildcat, are you a teacher ?
yes
houston
well, then.. yay for your snowday too
absolutely :) although we'll have to make it up at the end of the year
and on a Friday.. wahoo, three day weekend
even better
we think that the texas overloads will allow us this day without a makeup
overlords oops not wearing my cheaters
we've already been told we have to make it up
but they can't by state law
minimum # of school days
we have bad weather days built into the schedule
this is our first for the year - we may also have one built in
where are you wildcat?
we always had three, not to be exceeded
I must go and do some errands. Enjoy the grid and have a good day. Bye!
bye haz
bye, Haz.. you hagd too!
we have two, and one year we did use both and everyone was hot when we had to make them up by giving up holiday days
Austin
up the road a spell
you have snow?
son and family live in Austin.. granddaughter's preschool was called off
just a bit
Aloy the whole city shuts down on days like this
they all forget when they move here what to do with it
maybe the cold will tamper the pollen.. they have had allegies because of "cedar fever"? New to them as they are new to the area
they will always get cedar fever. it's potent stuff
ooh, not good as they both love Austin
cedar is my enemy. It even blows down here from the hill country
it only lasts for a couple of months at most. it's the only stuff that gets to me these days
hello fellow cold texans!
hi kje how much snow do you have?
DIL's parents came for a visit.. they have never had allergies, but cedar got to them.. bad
hmmmm... have't measured... but cannot see the street
or the bricks around the flower bed
we have 1-2 inches on the ground
ad uderneath is the sheet of ice that hasn't melted from Moday night
kje...we just have a bit of ice in Houston, but the city is at a standstill, and the weather guys are on talking about The Arctic Blast...gahhhhhhhhhhh!
how nice
don't forgret it's there
It really is all about the weather persons having something to talk about, lol.
always
well, let's face it, these cities down here are not prepared for this - we do ot stock salt or sand to keep roads safe, etc
rget about plows
so true...and annoying!
we sand here but no plows
more keys sticking kj?
BUT, when I lived in MD, I thought it was weird that schools closed because temps hit the high 90s - it is all relative and what you are prepared for
saw a utube video about a weather man in Chicago, doing a report and lightning goes off right over his head.. while it is snowing, and the man freaks with delight
saw that, too, Al... and he worked for the weather channel... "snow thunder"... LOL!
lightenig i snow is relatively rare - cool!
but really, I don't know anyone glad to see them talking about nothing all a.m. Wish they'd get over it and put on regular programming.
bbl...
well, I do ot have a TV - so I am isolated in my winter wonderland

No, it was definitely cool. But to see him get so excited was hysterical. We had thunder with one of our recent storms; don't know about lightening, as I was not out looking for it, LOL.

i want a place where out my front doo i see mountains, out my back door i see my boat tied up at a dock on a still lake with the morning fog covering it and when i go out the side door i want to trip over deer poop lol
i've been there, diane. nice but still too close to phoenix.
crossy, there are places like that here in the flathead valley
we only go to Phoenix to pick up friends/family from the airport.... In and out !
sounds like some places in Alberta, Crossy.... in fact like many places in Canada !
indeed
places where you can drive for 20 minutes..and still be on your own property:))
places where the forest still speaks and in the early morning you can hear the secret voices of the animals and there is no sound of man,so you can actually stand still and hear chuckle of the streams and the sound of the blood moving in your veins

Ta diane. Heh Al, I'm rarely here nor often remember to check for blue and pink. Pardon the slip!

Thank you Al, it is nice. I'm in one of those wanting to hug everyone moods and the cats are sick of me, so I'm glad you're all here. :D
dra ne
lol.. are you in snow country?
and
and I never even noticed we were colour coded !!
No, I'm in bed country. Gray misty Portland OR outside, disdainful kitties and lonely hugger inside. Nothing unusual!
Diane, some people are "grey" so you have to guess with them. : P
I guess if they put "person" or "alien" in their profile that is what shows up !!
good morning, Molly :-)
have never been to Portland, melissa but hear that it is so beautiful (when the mist rises)
crossy is back with tea and english muffies with gooseberry jelly and ready for more fun and merriment:)
aha.. found the sc7 you put on top of a bagel, yumm
and crossy is making me hungry
I haven't eaten yet.... I'll enjoy fully !!
ty cross
:)
Al, it's truly gorgeous. I encourage everyone to visit during summer/early autumn, when you can actually see the lovely skyline!
.. tries not to snitch the muffins with gooseberry jelly
someday I will, melissa
My son's favourite drive has been down the Oregon coast.... they've done it twice ! (We're in Alberta, melissamay )
I'll take the bagels and sc7s with a bit of lox, mmmm!
That's a fabulous drive, diane. We've done it too but we rarely make it the whole way, there's just too many pretty little towns and views to gawk at.
Diane, I've only been to Vancouver in BC (which is in my opinion the most beautiful city I've ever seen -- like Portland on steroids)
Victoria is even prettier in my opinion :-) Not so much hustle and bustle.... I lived there for 2 years in the late 50's and most of my family are still there, or close.
done de done done.. anyone need a clue before I go seek some food?
I'd love to see more of the country, and I hope I get the chance. And at the risk of promoting a cliche, every Canadian I've ever known has been extraordinarily friendly and kind-hearted.
yaa for aloy!!
:))))
way to go, Aloy . Gonna plug along her yet for a while !
yahooo aloy
ty crossy.. did you make the gooseberry jelly?
Well done, Aloy!

Lots of excitement -- the water line on the roof of the house we are renting must have frozen overnight -- had a fountain up there and am now housebound waiting for the plumber.
ouch nan.. no fun!
oh yuck nan
ty aloy
poor cybernan;(
tried my first run at the grid differently today.. blocked off all stats to see what I could see
yw sue
EC4 I found also, thy, thy, thy aloy aloy aloy.
Diane, the sc that goes on a bagel is (I believe) a New York Deli terminology. It's an sc of what you normally top a bagel with.
Diane, it's a Jewish/Yiddish term for a thick spread of cream cheese atop a bagel. Does that help a bit?
i do that from time to time aloy,i hode the bottoom of the page so i cannot see the stats, that way i can delude myself into thinking that i am doing better than what i actually am;)
doesn't help me mel
or diane, you sm% a stain when you wipe it. Add an H to it
sour cream? cream cheese?
Good clue, sue.
if you are not from NY, sc + **S Pinafore + not you + **nold Schwartzenegger

He packed your lunch Eva? How sweet.
ab5 is ab + a measurement for electricity.

I think someone asked for that earlier. <.<;;
ahh early marriage stuff..;) crossy remembers..i was off work for a bit and i used to pick the mrs up from work and have dinner waiting on the table for her...lol
ty cgw
I was just going to ask what a picky eater packs in a bag lunch.
You're welcome. :3
Oh, and then plural.
the stuff he grew up on, of course, molly!
ty cgw
I feel so helpful. :D
i have been trying to have dinner ready when he gets home. my dinner plan started falling apart a little bit this week, as certain recipes yielded quite a bit more food than id anticipated, so we are drowning in leftovers at the moment...
afternoon - been lurking for a bit - been out to lunch today. Went to Michelin starred restaurant - it was gorgeous
Since it's just my son and I, I have to freeze leftovers or food would get wasted big time.
most of ours does. as ive mentioned before, hubby isnt big on leftovers, and frankly, i can only eat so much!
Sounds wonderful Kaz, what did you have?
eva the trick is to make him think they aren't leftovers. freeze and use as an ingredient in another dish, or wait long enough and serve with different sides
leftovers are my friend.
for starters i had a pastry case with smoked haddock which was topped with a poached egg and mustard sauce with mushrooms and rocquette. then i had slow cooked belly pork with red cabbage and baked onions and potaotes and for dessert we had rubarb 3 ways -jelly, crumble and creme brulee but it as exquisite on the plate and it was a fantastic ambiance in the middle of the Devon country side
oooh i wish i could transport myself there, kazz
de 8 please?
it is our birthday treat - me and hubbys - his bd tomorrow, mine in fortnight and valentines in between
Well now, that certainly beats a super sized meal.

sc7/40 is also a silly word and so6/24 downright medieval
back to clue as soon as I get myself a cuppa
*Cross fails to notice he was banished to the PB for do 4/5*
!!!!!!! Nan !!!!!!!
sc 7/40 is a regional word, mostly used in NY and NJ Delis.
yes definitely a middle-European import into America
the dictionary definition refers specifically to bagels
sounds like"damn! i got a sc***** of dog poop on ma shoe!"
right all - i have 4 left and am stuck - they are 2 sc - sc6/27, sc7/44. so 6 and un 6 any clues please

any other clues wanted?
I mentioned once before about dropping a pavlova into a keyboard - it went under the tap and then the hairdryer without harm !
its a very very old word - never seen it before
yes it has to do with land tenure and duties for same
i think i might have to do something similar - i inherited the laptop from my husband and it has remains of his meals in it as well
i am now off to put dinner on for my son - he is coming to stay for the weekend
guess not -- on my way then -- see you tomorrow :)
I used to suffer from that at work: one of my colleagues always had a bacon sandwich every day and his keyboard was totally gummed up (or baconned up?)
cheers all. maybe see you morrow.
Oh wow people, I don't think running your laptops under water is a good idea.
i use BACONGUARD tm for my keyboard;)

Soodle, you say oc6 when you stub your toe? Hmm.
Never mind, I get it. I missed the wrong clue part.
Not at all, Moll. I say..'Oh dear oh dear' (yeah right!!)
No one needs to know what I said when I broke my toe.
fireworks
Molly, I tried to reply to you on FB, but I couldn't. Thanks for the Brigid's Day wishes. :-). I am still perplexed how you know about these obscure Irish traditions....
Woo-hoo, Annie. Well done!

ty annie
sc7,40?

Bye Annie. :-)
bye annie
SC 7/40. First three letters of a learning establishment ***ool, not you but ** and I am, you **r, he is, she is
ty soodlebum.
tysoodle. Just starting and have two words already!
Argh. Typo in final bit of clue, but glad you got it, Mixi
I sure had that word messed up. LOL
Hello Stid :-)
Soodle, I'm a Pagan. We celebrate such things. ; )
when you fix up a building, it's rehab, so i think when you demolish it, you should call it dehab
That word actually makes a lot more sense than the "deperm" of yesterday.
i always strive to make more sense than enable. it's a humble goal, but a worthy one.
Thats a noble goal, Hurshy!
fireworks. monkees found last word.
When a building is torn down it is raised. That always seems backwards to me hurshy.
I think its widely acknowledged that Brigid was a pagan, Moll. Somewhere along the way, the church kidnapped her as one of theirs!!
random word association question: when i say "economist", what comes to your mind?
it isn't raised, it's razed. big difference.
magazine hurshy
Ah yes, hurshy, I was being a phonetic speller and missed badly.
forgot about the magazine!
Economist, one who studies economy.
Hurshy, when I hear that word, I get the shakes!
what i really want to know is what traits you associate with economists.
Ivory tower, not in the market but in some university.
money
They are like weather men. Sometimes they get it right but usually they are way off--too early, too late, too little, too much.
Well said, Stid. I totally agree.
An economist is probably fairly rational.
so am i alone in finding it sort of sweet how naive they can be about how people will actually act?
And intellectual.
Not sweet when budgets are built depending on their errors, hurshy.
Economists miss one very important thing. The human element. Statistics are cold and impersonal.
ah, well, that's a fair point
Erm... If economists were all that, why is most of the planet in recession?
well partly because economists are often right about things and politicians ignore them, soodle.
I think the old adage 'Doctors differ and patients die' could also be applied to economists.
well gooooooood evening fellow babblers xxx
well, nobody's perfect.
but economists are at least mostly well-intentioned, as are doctors. wall street bankers, on the other hand... i think the seventh circle of hell is reserved for them.
Hey Frog. England is doing well against Wales in the Rugby....
wait, how many circles of hell did dante write about? i meant the last one, whichever number that is.
is it? am not a rugby fan - now rugby players! thats a different story lmao. and hi soodle xxx
mind you soodle i'd pick rugby over politics anyday
this puzzle was so nice in the top row, and not bad in the second row. it lulled me into a false sense of security and now it is being mean and cruel.
I agree with Hurshy about bankers, and Froggie about rugby players!!
hi all
hey carlee xxx
Hi Carlee :-)
do i want to start this one?..i have about an hour..then off to my chcoolate sleepover with now 30 teenaged girls
hey froggie...soods :)
I'm almost afraid to ask, but whats a chocolate sleepover? I know chocolate, I know sleepovers, but a combination of both?
the theme for the sleepover for the girls..is chocolate... we watching both charlie and the chocolate factory's
we have games around chocolate..having chocolate fondue, chocolate sundaes, cakes..cookies..etc....
and breakfast tomorrow is chocolate chip waffles and in lieu of juice..we having chococlate milk
every woman's dream..super chocolate indulgence :)
long as no one ba4s
we will give them a talking to first...to do everything in moderation
a little bit of everything is fine...just not alot of anything
it just means..they all going to be souped up on chocolate and no one will sleep..until the sugar crash :)
well..i know how to kill a chog
afternoon everyone - could i get a clue for sc 7/40 please?
i heard recently that kids getting hyper from sugar is a myth. one of colbert's guests or something.
7/40, bagel and a ....
i have one girl who is quite entertaining on chocolate
what you do to cream cheese on a bagel. jind
i don't really understand why you would tell them "everything in moderation" and then proceed to do the exact opposite, though. i'd wait until the week after and say, you know when we did everything chocolate? that was not the best idea.
thanks Mac!
Thank Ibd
i have a great proper noun, but not sure if people will know it...
name that proper noun! david, portrayer of poirot
suchet
ding ding ding!
i hope you didn't google it just to make me feel better :)
lol
and the spanish dictator of course. Morning all
hiya lynxxx

hi Carlee
oh good!
nope..not going to bother starting this one
wise choice, carlee. it's very mean.
who's the spanish dictator? they don't have a dictator now, do they??? what time period are we talking?
`Spanish dictator.... Old french currency with an O on the end....
souo?
no... hmmm
oh
not THAT old
i see
thank you
i didn't have those F's :)
I would SOOOO love to be going to a chocolate sleepover. Moderation my ass.... bring on the choclit!!!
it will be fun... the girls planned it... i think they even created a variation of twister set to choclit
i like to get over half from each tile but that stupid lower N is holding me back, all i can find is the perfume.
dang it, the R is also holding me back, i just noticed.
whew, there's an R.
Hi all...didn't know sleepovers had themes...not in my day...but chocolate sounds awesome!
nu5.16 & 6.27
or nu & half of a latin dance
thank ye kindly, lynxxx!
phantom: fedora
Nu 5/16... Nu plus ***rlie ***plain, old movie star and add a vowel to plural it....
And theres an NA 4/5, which rhymes with the Ba 4/7 (Shakespeare, the ba** of Avon)
so, there are two bo5/16 right in a row, and i have the piece of wood, can anyone help me with the other one?
Sorry, I needed to go and put groceries away, heat lunch, keep my husband company while he ate, etc.
Bo, and I ***rd it thru the grapevine....
ty soodle. I didn't **it through the grapevine but oh well.
Your welcome, Stid. :-)
Time to go and view the damage. We had a fair amount of flooding in our area last night, a lot of people would have spent the night in our local Town Hall (emergency centre). (except for a couple of relatively small issues I am OK) BBL
Best of luck, Lynn.
hugs lynxxx
My 79 year old Mom has just come back from having an angiogram, and everything is A OK! I am so relieved.
Good health is such a blessing soodle. We often don't get what we deserve--such as good health and happiness.
You are right, Stid. I actually didn't realise how worried I was about my Mom, till she got the all clear. Thank goodness!
I didn't realize how often I thought about my mother until after she died. Several times a day i would think, "That's something mother would enjoy hearing about." And then remembering she has a more direct line to my thoughts now.
Hello all
Hi jilli.
I do that too, stid.
I mean gmere ;-)
Hiya Jilli :-)
BTW, my icon is a clue you probabloy don't need
Glad to see you on the chog today jilli. I was just thinking about you and you need to see my thoughts written down--not just out there in the ether.
hi soodle
I don't think I'll be here long -- techie will be arriving soon to transfer my old email to this laptop.
Like your pictures on your page, jilli. I've been to Chard, Chardstock, and Chard south (?) that last one is not quite right. In Devon area.
ah -- here she is -- back later
oops, gmere -- PB!
Get thee to the PB, Gmere, thrice!!!!
I was tricked!! jilli. Oops, well, I shall take my tea and gingerbread with me and mutter low mutterings.
LOL
How could an ancestral home get me into so much trouble on the Babble chog? That trap was set 500 years ago. Long time to wait for it to spring.
hmmmm didn't look like a trick to me mere! lol
after all the icon theme is take a word from the grid
Clearly a conspiracy, Gmere............
JMC, I haven't been on for a while... Any news on the job you were going for?
True, but the circumstances played into the mind too closely. I shall look for the aluminum hats that bugsaw promotes.
belated thanks, soodle, for the bo5
Ah such riches for the lurkers.
That would be me.

It's like a girl's name, change a vowel. I'm trying to thin-oh

"Money doesn't talk- it swears."

First three letters of learning establishment ***ool, plus not you, but ** and I am, you **e, he is, she is...
thanks, sood. That's been avoiding me for hours...
And Kaplan...
Happy babbling. I'm off for now.
Your very welcome!
I was afraid you didn't like my very graphic clue.
Adios, ciao, tootleloo
Au revoir, Gmere
I have 24 left- but no listing.
Your clues are graphic, Kap. Mine are clumsy!
Wow, Kap -- I went to the list when I stalled out around 30, so very impressive for you!
I have become listless.
I just use tile stats, but don't finish grids.
.........listless. story of my life....
Some days I just don't finish, either. Years ago when I started I was ... okay, compulsive obsessive about finishing. Now I just enjoy the journey :)
"It was raining from the first and I was dying of thirst so I came in here"
Obsessive-compulsive. You said it backward! Oh no- now you have to spit 3 times and put a lock of hair under your pillow.
And say 3 Hail Mary's and 4 Sh'mas.
Soodle, "clothing for your feet" is an excellent description. Someone was cluing that word earlier and all I could think of was "shoe".
Or something bad might happen!
LOL! Actually, I was more into the counting and rhyming!
Sequencing, and if I lost my place, had to start all over again. lol. (Love to laugh about it all ... now....)
If you are compulsive obsessive, are you COD instead of OCD?
"And your long time curse hurts but what's worse is this pain in here
ROFL!!! Absolutely, Molly --- that's why I attend co-dependents anonymous! :D
Yeah, and if you are a dyslexic agnostic you are not sure if you believe in Dog.
That's an old one but it always gets me.
So does the old Reagan one- when the Reagans were dining out...
(wiping tears) LOL
Kaplan, you forgot the insomniac! The person has to stay up all night wondering if there really is a dog..
And Nancy orderd the filet mignon and a baked potato
And the waiter asked "and the vegetable?"
oh no ...
And she said "Oh He'll have the same."
For all you wonderers out there.... There IS a dog. And its peeing and pooping all over my kitchen as I type.
I know that is really offensive but it always does it for me.
Kaplan, that's terrible (giggling)... are you my friend Max? Your sense of humor is suspiciously like his...
I am not now nor have ever been a Max.
Did you recently leave the monastery?
But some of my best friends are Maxes.
Monaastery? Why?
lol! Okay, well you have a humor twin out there.
Lord help us.
Hold the front page!!!! Has Kap been exposed as a closet Max???? Conspiracy theories abound........
Or Dog.
A closet Max monk, no less ;)
"Cloistered Kap exposed as a Max Monk".
Oh, I'm having lovely visions of Kap in a Monastery.
I am speechless for once.
Why, kap? At the monk, the Max, or the closet?
High Fives all round. Kap is speechless!!!!
No need for words Sister Kap. Come, let us make some wine.
Cat got my tongue.
(holding my sides!!)
Kap/Max...Beyond The Monastery Dome.
ty for un clue by the way. got it.
Cat-captured cloistered Kap exposed as a Mad Max Monk... (this just gets better and better...)
In mink.
Now see? The real Max would have added the mink part, and probably thrown in pearls too.
Pearls were next, actually.
Max Kaplan? Are you there?
Okay, now seriously, Max, if that is you, then please email if you've got internet where you're living now.
If there are pearls, there must be a feather boa as well.
Where am I living
I was cranky coming on here tonight. I am off to bed now, with a smile on my face. Thank you all for the giggles. Good night all.
Good night sood.
Happy Friday! you ladies are being silly...
So is Max.
It's break from the gloom and procrastination that my life is becoming.
'night, sood. I'm sorry to have to join you out the door, but dryer is buzzing incessantly. Kap/Max -- thanks for the giggles. And if it is you, seriously, email. Have fun all!
This paper I was supposed to have finished last week for a newsletter- it keeps morphing everytime I work on it
Sing along with me...You should always look at the bright side of your life!
If I were Max, I would e-mail. In fact, tell Max to e-mail me!
I hate writing.
LOL -- okay, I believe you, Kap. But clothes beckon -- not mink, I'm afraid. Adios all!
I used to love it, but it's become torture
{{whistling Molly}}
I love writing. I wish we were neighbors Kap.
"Like a corkscrew to my heart, ever since we've been apart"
I used to write a lot, but scholarly writing killed me
I am too tangential
Imagine that.
What's the sense of changing horses midstream?
I love metaphor.
I'l going out of my mind with a pain that stops and starts
The problem with this paper is that I have a real social-psych stance and the newsletter is psychoanalytic. I didn't saay I wanted to write for that newsletter, but I got co-opted
"Taking motherless children off the street and placing them at the feet of a harlot"
Oh Jokerman, you know what he wants
I have the br8. What are the stats on the other two 8's?
I have the br8. What are the stats on the other two 8's?
If anyone is still there.
ra8/55 -- hi kap and all
I don't have the other one yet
de 8
Does it have the same letter combo?
"A little confused I remember well. Stopped into a strange hotel>"
(I've been listening to Dylan for those who haven't been hanging out here.)
just found the de8
Same letter combo as what?
She dropped a coin into the cup of the blind man at the gate.
I'd better start focusing on the grid.
the ra8 has the same letter combo as the br8
my son sings Dylan better than Dylan does, but that's not saying much
Dylan is Dylan. I've always thought of his voice as an instrument, though the last few years have been painful even for me
If Dylan's voice is an instrumant, he doesn't play it very well
*instrument
Blasphemy!
Hehe!
hi all
hi boo
My husband used to sing a nice version of "The Times They Are A'Changin" in French.
Hi Boo
better hints on the 8's?
Could he juggle too?
please?
I'm not seeing them
No Kap, he couldn't juggle. TNana...br9...the singer br8 out into guitar playing.
Yeah, really. I am not getting them. The br8 is dendrite like, treelike
ra8 is the guys on the ra5
ra8?
..meanwhile, back at the *****
I have the ra5 but don't get the ending
clue for ab 5 please
kap, the ending is the guys
ty
Oh. got it
another word for males
ab + physics term
Yeah, yeah.
ab + oh 4/6
for all animal-loving babblers: http://www.wimp.com/oneball/
not supposed to give clues like that, molly ;-)
Why not?
Since when? People clue like that all the time.
I agree with Molly - I've seen it a lot.
Explain yourself!
some spell it out even more precisely...I'm still trying to get the guidelines for cluing
It gives almost the whole word away
Can someone please direct me to The Rules Of Babble?
I thought it was a standard way of cluing. Maybe since the revolution things are different?
kaplan LOL!!!
as you notice... I don't clue a whole lot but when I do, it's usually just a "brain jogger"
Here's another one: http://www.dogwork.com/ddsff4/
Only gives it away if you have the other word- if not it's a clue with a clue
it's not really a clue if it spells out most of the word
Two schools of thought here.
everyone likes different types of clues - I enjoy the cryptic ones
acatually it gave four letters outright... that's why it isn't kosher... we try to only give two letters and make folks guess the rest
Again, where are the rules?
I try to clue the meaning, or a rhyming word, or just make up a silly clue
"There are no truths outside the Gates of Eden."
no rules per se.... just try to only give two letters. You won't hang for the transgression :)
someone once clued a 10 bu giving the 8 that it came from- that was a CLEAR transgression
sorry about that -- there really aren't any "rules" and I know lots of people clue that way but others have expressed the wish that more imaginative clues are more fun.
Sometimes the clues where people say "Twisty letter, sometimes vowel, and second vowel" are a little too obvious- why not just say s y and e?
Sorry I wasn't more imaginative. Have a good night you all.
i myself am not a big fan of second vowel, etc. Molly please take no offense!
That was a hard word and I wouldn't have known how to clue it except "Sounds like what waas dropped on Hiroshima"
I have a feeling Molly is handling this OK
(badly put -- should have said they wish people would use more imaginative clues which are more fun.)
thanks for the video, jilli -- sooo sweet!!
oh sighhhhh
Oh dear -- no insults intended.
I don't think anything was taken seriously...just a little mischogerstanding.
not directed at you, Jilli.... just at chat moods in general .... I've witnessed a few today LOL
lovely coined word, Kaplan
Or misunderchogging.
Hi diane and doren
:-))) Hi Ms. B.C.
ok, once through Lickety and 24 left
I have 21 left no Lickety, but I have to leave now. So bye.
I'm going to list as I don't think my evening is free.
i am glad i missed all the mischogerstandings!
bye kap
hi all others
une -- amazing how many dog-and-deer friendships seem to take place. Of course, the wildlife people don't think it's a good idea to make pets of deer or other wild animals.
hi jilli. et al
hi jmc
hi jmc :-)
i actually clue differently to different people
Hello my peeps!
hi mark
hi Mark :-)
happy to be a peep!
well, I could use some clues now -- how about one for un7/40?
hi mark
It is un+ he5
is that because some clues don't translate to other countries or because some people are thicker than others jmc, lol
already looking forward to easter and the american bar association peeparama contest
sorry jilli don't have it yet
What is a peeparama contest????????????
:-(
that is because some people like clues that are meanings; others like stats; and others want them spoon fed and a few like funny ones
jilli - the tree that fell in the woods
ty mark -- but we were just discussing clues like that, lol!
mark clued it
lawyers create famous legal scenes using peeps
LOL
Yw, Jilli!
great clue chrissie!
Hello diane!
ty ;)
chrissie, that's the kind of witty clue I really like
ty too;)
I know the word, but don't get that clue;
hello my dear babble friends
Hey trif!!!!!!!!!!
does a tree make a sound when it falls in the woods and no one is there?
hi trif
*whew* 1/2 way so I can go home with a clear conscience
WTG jmc!
I am supposed to be working on a sewing project that is due tomorrow, and what am I doing? yup. babbling.
and if any one cares i just got the call saying i did not get the job in philly so i will not have to put up with watching phillies for baseball
oh, jmc! are we sad, or not sad?
for every door that is closed a worse one is closed!
age, education, local idioms, locations, etc. ... all factor into cluing and how they are understood
jmn, sorry you didn't get the job, but what do you have against the Phillies?
You can watch the Nationals fail!
eh I am still counting on the right job coming along
yes, well, as they say, sometimes it's hell in the hallway
the fans joey :-P
my work is hiring....looking for a career change?
always a good side to everything, huh jmc ??
but i like you and TO!
thanks, jmc. I am sad that I can't watch the phillies all the time, but happier to be in the usually better weather in Texas
uh can't i be the boss
Spring training is almost here! GO PUJOLS!
i leave for spring training on March 16
i mean can i be the boss trif?
Hey, that is near my birthday!
already have 3 of those, so we are all set boss wise...
I was going to ask jmc, how the job search was going. sorry to hear that something will come up surely
when is your birthday, MarK?
Hi Dorens!
hi mark
You could look in my profile, but that is false. My birthday is March 13.
okay, guilt is getting the better of me. gotta go sew. later!
what have you told us the truth on mark?
well never mind then i want to be the boss
See ya later Trif!
ahhhhhhh, my brother's is the 17th and the friend that I am going with is the 19th
My name. That is basically it, but I just revealed my birthday.
Sounds cool, joey!
and your age?
I am in my late teens.
I get to watch the new hot 16 year old out fielder the Nationals got
late teens... driving?
so mark should probably not be telling us this stuff
Of course. jmc, do you mean Jameson Taillon?
I was thinking of Bryce Harper
He is a catcher!
and I he5/14 that strasburg is okay and will be pitching again (AMAZING to watch)
Anyway, it is dinnertime. I have Hebrew to practice, and pizza to eat. Adios, amigos!
we don't need no sticking catcher --- they are putting him in the field
bye mark
jmc, i thought that strasburg was going to be out for the entire 2011 season?
sorry that should have been stinking catcher -- kinda losses the feel with the wrong word
that is not what I saw a few weeks ago but to be fair I haven't look lately
wow - it would be a remarkable recovery if he came back during 2011
no you are right it was a false rumor :-(
i just read the webpage
I thought I read he would be back near the end of the season
his first couple of starts were amazing.
they had to keep reminding him to slow down between pitches for the commentators to comment
it was beautiful to watch and the stands were always full when he started
what's the name of the new huge young Canadian pitcher?
don't know jilli
I'll see if Google knows
i couldn't find it on the wiki page
I couldn't find it either. He was quite a sensation at the end of the season last year -- threw a blazing fastball
do you konw for whom he played?
John Axford maybe?
Can't remember. Don't think it was John Axford -- the name was fairly long, like Henderson or something.
Blake Hawksworth?
Harrington...?
ba5/16 please?
sorry, chrissie, don't have it
nm, got it
ok, clue, pls!
are you going to share? ;-)

Hello, Wht :-)
Hi wht. We're fine here in the NW showers, cool weather.

ah 4/5! Here is a story for today. This grid gave me a headac4/6 today as I made a de4/5 in the grid.I was not so de 4/8 at Babbling today.Lots of weird words. Therefore,I de4/6 it necessary to do a story of clues My hubby is su 4/7 an an4/5 whenever he wants play Farmville. I me 4/5 he is a total jerk! Sometimes he is the ba4/6 of my existence w/his Farmville addiction. He defe 5/18 his Farmville addiction by saying that it is no worse than my Babble addiction. He thinks that Babble is even worse because he thinks I can me 4/5 another guy. I could de4/10 him and not give him the computer everytime he wants it. But ea4/6 time I br 6/30 the subject of his addiction his de 8/50 te 5/12 to becomes very nasty. I do fe 4/7 what he might do if his needs are un5/14. I usually he4/6 his warnings. Speaking of which,I he4/5 him approaching. My story en4/5 here. I hope this story enha5/14d your ability to ho 4/5 in on the grid and find some more words. I am going to get up on my fe 4/7 and go fe 4/8 myself some dinner. I will be back the next ch 6/27 I get to finish & be do4/5 with this on 4/5 and for all. Ch 4/6!

Lived quite normally with husbands and children and had two strokes in '02 that left me with vertigo and I am much safter in a chair than on crutches. I'm not complaining tho....so many people so much worse than I. I do appreciate prayers....and I send them as well.

hiya folks
Hello TO. How are you?
hey jacs! well - we are awaitng a wintry mic to screw up the weekend!
mix
Hi everyone
We've had very strong winds here in UK, TO. Actually seems to have calmed down for the moment, though.
Hi Brookie.
good
SC 7/40
Hi Jac!
like sm5,12 but with a bit of a cute pronunciation in the beginning.
bleugirl - sc7/40 is a slang word. Think of slapping spread on something.
It's like how I like to apply cream cheese on my bagel.
yeah i couldn't remember how to spell it
Oh, I spoke too soon about the winds calming. (Those are weather winds, not internal winds btw!)
i think i will just turn in soon. these storms have taken a toll on my energy.
Incidentally, did any of you who are friends with me on Facebook see the BBC News link I put up earlier via my daughter linking it? Apparently, legal bods in Malawi are seriously discussing if farting in public is to become illegal.
It all seems to have come from some misunderstanding of what exactly constitutes 'air pollution'.
TO - we're better off than the folks in Queensland, Aus.
seems so.
TO - we are, so far, anyway. Always look on the bright side! (Even when it's hard to see.)
The winds of change are blowing in Africa, Jac
dan - LOL, really snorts with laughter.
How's Button, Dan? She must be getting quite a big girl now. Walking or pulling herself up on things yet?
fireworxxx
I loved watching the pulling themselves upright on things and then the quick, wobbly,, but determined dash to their destination. A bit like a drunk on a mission.LOL
Well done, bleugirl!
Yay bleugirl!
commando crawling, rolling over, sitting up and nonsense talking
probably a few weeks from real crawling and pullups
*by 'them', I meant my kids.
she says mama, dada, and tries her hardest to mimic sounds
That's so cute, dan!
yeah she's at a really fun age
no teeth yet
dan - has she gone through the 'trying out her voice' aka make annoyingly high-pitched screaming sounds yet? I find most babies tend to do that in the supermarket where I am. It's only 'cute' when your own baby is doing it. :-(
Or maybe your own grandchild.
yes she tests the volume knob from time to time
Screaming is never cute, no matter how lovable the child.
also the "motorboat" spit bubbles are fun for her
that's a recent trick
I'm still learning how to do that trick myself.
dan - I remember those bubbles! Have you had the 'put 4 spoonfuls of baby mush into the mouth, get all 4 plus spit and bubbles, with a big smile, back' thing yet?
Brookie - it's not exactly screaming, more high-pitched annoying noise.
she's actually really good with the spoon feeding. She hasn't rejected much, at least not yet. haha Brookie
A high-pitched annoying noise that goes through the scales for high-pitched annoying noises. Babies are nothing if not efficient.:-)
her sly trick is to undo her diaper on one side (always the left), and check to see if she got "caught"
a pitch that could shatter glass. oscar in the tin drum.
Hi again, TO. Yes, that's about right.
dan - I assume that's a disposable nappy/diaper and that she hasn't yet got the knack of opening baby safety pins.
correct, velcro-ish
though she does do a soundless snapping with her fingers on either hand - very cute and dextrous
sc7/44clue pls?
sc7 - pt "plotted"
ty
ra6?
Here's a typical baby's timetable - sleep, wake, wee, poo, gurgle, look cute, scream if no one notices all that nice warm pee and poo are all nasty and cold in your nappy now, AND that you are HUNGRY and that YOU WANT ATTENTION. Once satisfied, go back to sleep stage again.
the puppies from our closet just had their second birthday
ra6 - the Spanish version of the US cattle farm.
dan - you surely didn't keep all of those puppies? Is it really 2 years? Heck! Time goes fast.
oh duh, I forgot this was enable not english :-) that's firewords, tx Jac and all cluers
Thanks for the ra6! May I have another clue for the sc7, still not getting it.
Yay dan!
Well done, Dan.
wtg.dan!
sc6 is a plot or con game, sc7 is the past tense
Brookie - sm5/12 with the end of a Scottish lake after the first letter.
Thanks, got it now!
y/w
and the other sc7 is the bagel topping
Got that one 'cause I was raised on a bit of Yiddish (family Jewish).
i am missing the easiest words and tons of plurals!
TO - that's par for the course for most seasoned Babblers. We tend to look for the weird words first.
good night all!
'Night Dan.
See ya, dan!
night dan
de 6 pls?
de + not nice but ****
TO - de6 = to make someone feel lessened or small. To belittle their achievement.
ty
Brookie - how's the speech for this year going? I'm still chuckling over the last one. Your timing is perfect.
y/w TO.
nu 6 pls?
Thanks, Jac. It's now time for the "serious speech" contest. I'm actually going to start writing it this weekend - won't be presented till late March.
crossy wants to hear new brookie speech!
Thanks crossy!
Latin plural of the nu5/16 before it, TO.
The speech I'm writing about is about a really tough time I went through and the lessons learned... it was around the time I joined Babble, which was a pleasant distraction amidst the sadness around me.
Brookie - be sure to give us the link for it when its done. Is the subject of the serious speech a secret?
So there won't be any funny moments with the next speech, sorry!
Oh, I see it isn't.
It will still be interesting to hear though, I'm sure, Brookie. You present yourself so well.
I can tell you now. Around the time I joined, I lost my older son for about a year due to custody issues. It made me question our legal system and my sense of good vs. bad.
PB for me for saying a grid word!
You might not believe this, but I was charged with 5 felonies.
Obviously, I wasn't convicted, but the D.A. waited till the day of the trial to drop the charges, just to make a point.
!
Brookie - I might, if your ex had lied and you wanted your child.
I'm trying to write this speech so it's not a pity party, but a lessons-learned type of thing. I was also in prison for a day.
So, was kind of evil District Attorney was that? A man?
Ex had lied, and his attorney happened to work in the state attorney's office.
it is terrible when one parent uses the children as chess pieces to manipulate the system;(
Ah!
Yes, a man. In a very small town that I was not from.
Ah, again.
I was going through all this when I first joined Babble, and the Babble community was just a wonderful respite... provided some sanity for me.
Crossy - yes, it is.
not just because he was a man jacula..there are honest child custody male lawyers...but there are many dishonest ones..including women
I felt awful for my son, who missed me so much the few times I saw him.
Brookie - I'm so glad we helped you.
You did!
so6/24pls?
i am glad we eased your mind during that time brooke;)
Basically the lesson learned is that I no longer judge people by their status or position in life, whether good or bad.
I was literally chained and shackled as I walked through the courthouse, and the onlookers immediately judged me. It was so hurtful.
Crossy - I think it's a boy's club in a small town thing, from what Brookie has said. I think US small towns are as bad as UK small villages for not accepting someone as a 'local' until they've buried at least 3-4 generations of relatives there. The count is even higher for some UK villages 'up North'.
Didn't know that, Jacula. Sounds like a universal trend.
TO - so6/24 sounds like the males who love socks.
Brookie - yes, I think it is.
ty i am down to 2
y/w, TO.
Anyway, all is better now, and I have joint legal and physical custody of my older son. Which makes both my son and I happy. :-)
1
not here it is not,i know that the womens club try to drain as much from the guy as they can because that way they can make thewomans govt cheeques as small as possible, and they have books out on how to do this
Brookie - GOOD!
Go, TO, go!
Can you explain, crossy? Example?
but i digress,i will not hash out the lopsided justice system and am glad you have made out ok brookie
There's no digression in the chog, just detours. :0)
((brooke))
poof!
Crossy, I'd be interested to know what you meant, too.
Oh! He's gone.
eek jacs, i may need help with last one
Too late. :-(
TO - ask away.

Might be, jillibus, but I thought she'd found that already.
you are just off one vowel
