Right, and right. I've been flying out to visit; it's about a 16-hour drive.
And we only have one car for the three of us at home, so it's hard for me to take it for an extended period of time (unless we all go to visit, but then who would take care of the dog and cats?)
I don't mind going to see him but my work is starting to suffer - and if my work suffers that means my students suffer (I have about 360 students in two different courses) so it's not really fair to them either.
Looong way. I had the same kind of issue after my Mum died. Dad did not want to leave. He did some years later but it was all rather 'messy' and very upsetting when he got v. ill and we did not realize it as he lived too far away to visit frequently. Horrible few months
But the semester will be over in a couple of months, so then I can go back for more than a weekend (or we'll see, maybe he won't want such an extended visit by then!)
Yes, my SO had the same problem with his own dad when he got old - had to move him from New York to San Francisco, and it was very traumatic.
I do want to keep in touch with him by phone more often than I had been doing, and I have contact info for the neighbors so I can sort of keep track of him, but it is hard.
Do you have space to put him up if he can/will come for a few weeks every other month?
Will he communicate with you online? email? Perhaps he can join B abble!
I really don't although might be able to create something if he wants to come. My house is very old and a terrible mess at the moment.
That would be nice!!! But he doesn't have internet at home, and doesn't plan to get it. (Sigh). I think he would like babble, but he's not a very sociable kind of guy.
He does have email but has to go to the library to use it.
So I'm just going to have to keep phoning him, and visiting when I can.
Maybe I'll send my son once or twice instead - I think the two of them would get along well :-)
Maybe you can set him up at home with the argument that email is more convenient than phone for you a lot of time
I could try that the next time I go out there. It would cost a bit but he's not hurting for money.

Sue, I don't think he did when we met, but over the years he came to know that there was something more ....he was a lover of the seas and he told me of several incidents that could not be explained.... so after all he admitted that he was no longer a non believer.

In the late l950's I went to Maryland to meet his parents.....at the airport coming home...we said goodbye at the gate and the plane was starting down the runway and suddenly the pilot put on the brakes and they opened the door and he was running across toward the plane, got on board and kissed me....ran off and waved.....the passengers all cheered, Oh my, I was so embarrased. A great guy.

I was too young and he had been ordered to go to Germany with him and though my mother and father liked him very much, she told him "No". I'm not sure that we would have made it as husband and wife but we had a very long relationship.....both married other people, both divorced, had children...the whole nine yards. But through it all we had each other as friends.

But I'm fascinated by the universe. I co 8/88 about the universe often. I often wonder about the da4/5 scientists have found about the universe. I have always been fascinated with the universe. When I was a teenager, I stayed ho 4/6 at night gazing at the va 4/7 array of stars through my telescope my Mom ga 4/9 me. While my friends were out dating guys they had the ho4/5 for, I would stay ho 4/6 star gazing. But I didn't care one io4/4 about guys.
