ty frank
you're welcome
good morning everyone and frank, I think I missed you last night - just want you to know how much I miss our dear Jesse
hi jbv!
hi ruby!
thank you, JBV - much appreciated - been a difficult loss for all of us around here.
you are in our hearts, too
doorbell, see you later
thank you :) I remember Jess mentioning you a few times - he was very fond of you. You must have made an impression!
we had a lot of love going on here at Babble :)
I recently lost my husband (after 33 years) so I know what grief is, but the news about Jesse hit me really hard - he was so vibrant and had so much to look forward to
I'm sorry to hear that...There is no getting used to it - it seems you ought to get used to it, but you don't.
and thanks for the God of Love clue - I've got to get started on my day - all my best to you - nice to see you here at Babble
Morning everyone!
well thank you - and take care
morning angela
glad to see you here Frank. how are you doing?
hiya.
gm peeps
frank, I don't know you but would like to add my sincere condolences, Jess was so special and loveable
morning jean
morning, all!
gm angela
gm sue
hi, jean!
morning uusue!
hi, angela!
just finding a few words before starting my day...
same here - before I do the daily running of the dreadmill...
oh, you're more ambitious than I am, Angela! I just do about 10 minutes of weights.
I have a 5K on Saturday...otherwise I would skip it today :) Not feeling it!
ah - I used to run - but that was 75 pounds and two knee replacements ago....
I only started running March 1 last year, but I imagine at my age (41) it will not be a hugely long running career :)
I started when I was about 30 but didn't really continue after getting pregnant at 38. Should have, though.
I had a little moment last year and decided to start running and change my eating habits the same day. It worked out well so far, but it's tough to keep motivated...I think you have to be a special breed to enjoy exercise...
and getting pregnant at 38 is no small task - i would imagine you were a little busy... :)
May I have the 10? Hello everybody
Hey Mark - I don't have it yet.
I see that you've lost a lot of weight - congratulations!!
me either, mark.
Ok, then. How is everyone?
doing ok, mark! How are you?
Very well!
Thanks :) Feels great. I look at old pics and sometimes am caught off guard at the change.
oh - TheLegend has a list in his profile, and I see that the 10 is a tr10/77, if that's any help.
Good here Mark - what's your day shaping up to be? Busy one?
Always!

ca8/50 - follow a type of lily with shortened form of a man's name. Think Jefferson, president of US.
Afternoon Haz, sunny day for you too?
Hello, FM.
Yes, wall to wall sunshine, it's very pleasant.
Makes such a change, people walk about with smiles on their faces and stop bewing grumpy :)
Just don't go casting any early cloots.
Nae worry, no cloots going anywhere!
Gosh, you've got the hang of the Scots.
Just brushing up on my colloquialisms
Jings, here's the husband hame!
Never know when they might come in handy. Heard anything from Ata?
Not a thing.
Ah well at least she is v happy in her job.
He's got eggs in his hands and I'm to come to hear about them. See you later!

morning, all! kid just called, wants a ride to school as soon as he brings the car home :-/
Good grief! Again?
he's been driving it a lot (but sharing reasonably nicely so I suppose I can't complain)
I thought he was out all night last week (or the week before)?
he's usually out all night, has a new girlfriend
As long as he is being decent and you don't get put out too much....{mama bear mode kicks in to protect uusue!}
Have her drive him to school then!
he's 21, so I don't interfere with that sort of thing, just want to make sure the car is available when needed
probably I will walk to work again today anyway, as I really need the exercise
she doesn't have a car
Ok, ok. {mama bear slinks away...}
and she's really sweet, so I am happy for him
but now I'd better take a quick shower...
i step a way for a minute
That'll teach 'ya!

Hi does anyone have a link to Licketty please. It doesn't seem to be coming up for me.
No Lickety today, Sandie. However if you care to scroll back a few posts, there are lists of people who have lists in their profiles.
wvteach - I wasn't being nasty, just making a joke, sorry if you thought I was getting at you.
Thanks Haz. Done that. wonder what's going wrong with licketty's link?
I'm a nobody too Haz but always happy there are somebodies with a list.....
Moi aussi.
Oh, so am I. I didn't mean to annoy anyone. I should just say nothing, it's safer.
Relax, Haz!
no, I understood you were just joking....as I am sure most everyone else did
I hope so.
always love your English wit....
Good morning, all. Name that proper noun: City in Florida.
Ocala
Ding ding ding!!!!!
Good Morning Everyone
You have won a plethora of valuable prizes.
Hi Judi and River. However, time for moi to go. BBL
or afternoon for you folks on the other side of the pond
*jumps up and down*
got a speeding ticket at 6:30am outside of Ocala.. no one else on the road, I looked down to find my cruise control and looked up to see flashing lights in my rear view mirror.. ugh
bye Mark
terrible way to start the day Aloy
bye, Mark
Total bummer, Aloy.
lol.. it was years ago, but you are right.. had been driving since 4:30am
too much caffeine = lead foot
as I recall, it cost me $150
this grid has a bit of a bite to it...I am having a hard time today
yikes Aloy - that is steep
yes.. for 10 miles over the limit, thought it was too
guess they have to make their money on the young folks since most drivers down there are sloooowwww
am sure it has gone up since then
phantom: anethema
remove a couple vowels and you got a word there
make that anathema
ty, River.. had the Star Spangled Banner (-:
down to 100 - should get to work now - have a great day everyone
you too, River.. bye
a fruit basket? ca8 is a fruit basket? newbie for me
hint for the ca8?
start with what sounds like a type of lily, then end with a short version of a man's name
like an abbreviation of a common man's name.. goes with Dick and Harry
this that these and ****e
I get the lily start and the name, but don't get what's between
you have to misspell the lily by leaving out a consonant
ty aloy!
Morning Babblers :)
I've never heard a fruit basket called one of those either.
hi again, all! finally got the ca8, was using the wrong lily :-)
Misspell the lily and take ma from the doubting disciple's name.
hi sue
Hello, Nono and Molly.
I happen to be listening to an audio book with that lily in the title, so it was a good clue for me.
Hi Haz, you had me singing "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" a while ago. : )
brb.. never know what you will learn on Babble (-:
Well, there are worse things I could have you singing!
could i have stats for the two top o's please
There are two lilies ca + hump letter or ca + stick letter. Which one is it?
or 4/5
It's the second alternative, bichon.
ty GE
TY all. The dense one finally got it
Glad you got it, bichon.
no worries, bichon, I spent quite a while making non-words with the other lily :-)
Actually, are either of them true lilies
ca 8 sounds like a word in a Druid spell. : D
Druid spell? Could we be any more obscure???? C'mon, Molly. Some of us haven't had ne/4 enough coffee.
no idea, bichon, but the one relevant to the actual word is one of my favorite flowers
And my daughter's. Her wedding bouquet was made from them
Does the Druid spell change the basket into lilies or lilies into baskets?
I've tried growing them, without much luck
I think Molly was commenting rather than cluing, judi (says the queen of obscure clues :-)
Judi, scroll down for clues. I try never to be obscure when I'm cluing.
Phantom: zygomancy
I think someone has been smoking the lillies.
lol, enjoy your phantoms, BabbleRabble
Both Haz, depending on your Druid mood. : P
(Looking up zygomancy to see if it has any light to shed)
Pax
<------Clueless as to how zygomancy is a phantom
back atcha, BR
Divination with the aid of weights. Cast a spell and get fit. It's the way forward.
If phantoms are words that aren't there, then any word that isn't in the grid qualifies as a phantom. This is dependent on rule 43678 being upheld by the Babble Rules Committee.
I knew it! I knew there was a Rules Committee!
ah so, glad you set that straight, Haz..
You didn't hear it from me. I will deny all knowledge.
It's a secret society, like The Templars, isn't it? I'll never mention your name Haz.
phantom Rules Committee
Updated my icon to the Botany Photo of the Day - today Coprosma brunnea, otherwise knows as Opal Berry.
It's so secret that even the Rules Committee don't know they're members.
The PRC
'the first rule of babble is that you do not talk about babble...'
we need italics, sue
lol silver!
They wear hooded cloaks and have a secret handshake.
Despite my hebetude, I am able to conjure phantoms
True story - when I worked at Fermilab (big particle accelerator in Illinois), they had an Aesthetics Committee, which told us things like where we could and could not store stacks of shielding blocks.
talk about druid words and zygomancy and i'm lost. talk about cult films and i'm good.
no way no how BR.. no hebetude for you, dude
If you're an example of hebetude, I'm a world class seamstress, BabbleRabble.
yeah, and I can dance like they do on the TV
yes, glad one person's seen Fight Club ;) brilliant film...
<--- tried unsuccessfully to introduce italics to Babble profile
lol, spoken like a true scientist, sue
It's still a pretty plant. (Plants are not one of my areas of expertise, by a long shot).
ooh that black stinky stuff is in another grid, cr8
thx, aloy, got it without looking :-)
and apparently I now have nbs as well as nbt, but still a long way to go!
wtg, I missed it first time around
wtg sue, I have nbt but not nbs
but now I need to go to work. see you all later!
bye sue have a great day
bye sue, hagd
hi Nono
hi Aloy
ha5 makes waste, so I missed three words, smelling some piscine creatures coming my way
Aloy-there are 4 connected to that word
eek, ducks as it comes straight at me.. ty scribe!
that finishes the h's
thanks scribe!
you're all very welcome-
*hoping hebetude isn't contagious* Doctors carry the craziest cooties.
getting close to halfway but still no ideas for the 10
haven't found it yet either, Nono
tr 10
starts with a Latin prefix
glad i'm not alone aloy
ty bichon, looking..
second part is a male star
ty bichon!
yvw
Cracking clue, Bichon! Ty.
h'mm, thinking
and.. you are in the PB bichon
which one? aloy
the male performer bichon
Oh well, I am hungry
twinkle twinkle little ****
thought I might have had an 11 letter word using the beginning of the 10 and a word meaning along the shore but it isn't accepted
ah, finally got it.. ty bichon (sends goodies to the PB)
it would use the T twice LWG
looks like i have the day off. sick kids with a 12:00 dr appt.
Nutella on banana maybe
ahhh that's why, thanks Nan
sick kids? not a day off.. hope they feel better soon
not a nice day off GE hope the kids are better soon
but babble also said the word wasn't found in the dictionary
my mistake, one sick kid and he's 16 with a sore throat so he is sleeping. so it is a day off!
Hi everyone.....
nice try tho, Luv.. hi Flask
Hello, Flask.
Hi Haz.....
can anyone clue me the co5/12 between the co5/14 and the co4/5 please?
do5/12 - perhaps describing a pigeon or a woman admiring a baby.
a pigeon does this, so it is a co5
Of course. Thanks a lot.
lol Haz, thinking pigeons
Does anyone have a list posted yet?
There's one in the Legend's profile
yes, wvteach does
I was just gonna ask the same....
brb.. am being paged for who knows what
.
Flask, I've e-mailed it to you already, the list, I mean.
just added list to my profile
FMitch also has one in her profile, plus Jacula and Volleymomdee and Une and wvteach.
ihave a list posted...and the word groups are separated for easy reading
:-D we're quite listful today
hello all
hey, hursh
Hello, hurshy.
hi hurshy
<<<<< Haz, check it out -- after years of guarding my mom in her home hospital bed, Derby is totally blissed out! :-)
some days it is a particular relief to see you all.
i agree, hursh
They both look very happy, Une.
indeed :-)
no matter where i look i dont c the ca 8/50 .help plz
ivesy - try, ca, then the first three letters of the language spoken by the ancient Romans, finish with most of what firemen use to carry water to put out fires.
gee, why couldn't people see a lil old word like that?
tx Haz!!!
ty haz! whew..
Don't we all know our Greek fruit baskets?
shockingly, no
i dont even know any greek fruits.......lol
no harm intended with that lol
Well, now we know what to order when we want to send a fruit basket to Great Uncle Dmitry.
LOL!!
good morning everyone;)
morning Crossy
morning cross
spring has sprung here! 5 celcius! stuff is actually thawing!!! whoooo!
my first crocus bloomed this morning
i can see dead brown grass;))
Yay crossy and GE! My crocuses have been up for a couple of weeks now, and I have buds on the daffodils and hyacinths :-)
sue, did the Fermi Lab make a big discovery? I saw it in the Times Science Section on Tues
Maybe. More data are needed :-)
yaaa crossy found the tr7,8 and ten! ...does the happy dance......
woohooo crossy!
They seem to see an excess of events at a particular mass, but the statistical significance is relatively low (if that makes any sense)
just noticed my crocus a couple of days ago the yellow ones are blooming
Time to re-he/4 the coffee and file the mountain of crap on my desk. BBL. *POOF*
speaking of crocus, shouldn't "croca" be the plural?
or croci?
crocuses:)))
or crocosuses lol
yes but croca is in the grid. so we should insist lol
Abstract of the Fermilab paper: We report a study of the invariant mass distribution of jet pairs produced in association with a W boson using data collected with the CDF detector which correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.3 fbô€€€1. The observed distribution has an excess in the 120-160 GeV/c2 mass range which is not described by current theoretical predictions within the statistical and systematic uncertainties. In this letter we report studies of the properties of this excess.
or, "similare to a crocus" should be "crocate"
so what does this mean, in terms I could understand it? Isn't Fermi Lab going to shut?
so..a oair of jets need to go on a diet;)
Translation: when they reconstruct the mass of particles produced in certain collisions (using conservation of mass and energy), they see more than expected within a particular mass range, and nobody understands why.
And yes, unless a lot of money suddenly shows up, Fermilab is shutting down later this year.
I thought they were going to make an announcement as to whether they had proved something
Is the Stanford Linear Accelerator still in business?
it hasn't been open very long, has it? or is this not that one?
SLAC is still in business but doesn't have enough energy to see these things. Fermilab has been open since 1976.
We pass the SLA when we drive down 280 in CA
This is what we call a three-sigma effect - it's three standard deviations above (a rather large) background. So it may go away with more data.
Cool, bichon! I interviewed for a position there when I got my PhD but it turned out they didn't have an opening after all :-/
I hope they do make a new discovery. The world needs good news
We often hike at the STanford Dish
Nice area
cure cancer..thats all i ask of you all..nothing more
crossy, I wish I had that kind of expertise, but I don't. On the other hand, high energy physicists have made a lot of advances in computing that have allowed the kind of calculations that folding@home uses (among others) to take place, so we do contribute a little :-)
And I have changed my icon to the data in question, and put a link in my profile.
danm shit tears families apart..crossy is tired of it...
and i am sure your advances help in other areas sue;)
me too, crossy, I lost my mom, my sister, my aunt, and my cousin (age 6) to cancer, so it's not something I take lightly.
said cousin was born on the same day I was - we were like twins, as our mothers were close - that was my first direct experience with the death of someone close to me. Not easy when you are 6.
my mom had colon cancer, beat it, oral cancer 3x finally said no more chemo or radiation.. shes 82, still fighting it!
good for her, ivesy! It's a tough battle even when you beat it.
good morning everyone
oh yes.. she cant eat well, radiation really did a number on her, but she manages to still drink her coffee lol
hi, flosey!
yaa for ivesys mum!!!
but you can't ONLY ask for a cure for cancer... what about all the other horrible things... parkinson's, alzheimer's, cystic fibrosis...
ik,cure one a day,i will be happy witht that
ty lol... and to think i dont do as welll with my diabeties.. puts me to shame!
my mom had ovarian cancer, died in 1973 - treatment back then was pretty brutal. Even without a cure there have been a lot of advances.
indeed, sue.i would not be sitting here if i had gotten any of my cancers in the 70,s
is there a list available today?
my cousin died of a Wilms tumor (childhood kidney cancer) - when my aunt got breast cancer and was telling the doctor about her family history he said, oh, we don't lose them to that any more - good news but bittersweet.
lbd, Legend has one, as do a bunch of other people
yes indeed, there have been many advances and i am thankful
ty
and just to toot the horn of high energy physicists once more (before I get back to grading), it was a high energy physicist who developed the World Wide Web, so people working on these big experiments would have a way to share data graphically as well as text. So there :-)
physics rules, physics rocks.. never understood how a kid could get out of high school without it
everyone should have at least conceptual physics
not everyone can understand it.
speaking as a former math tutor. it would be nice if everyone had certain things but...
yes they can, hurshy.. there is a way to get some concepts across without fancy mathematics, a "hands on" approach
i just know i had some kids who REALLY wanted to learn and tried VERY hard and still had trouble making headway with some very simple things, despite many many repetitions and various approaches.
list in my profile, dawg
just zipping thru -- hi and bye :-) *poof*
physics can be phun (-:
one problem is that people have an expectation tat it's very difficult and they can't understand it. When I tutor chemistry , and the light bulb finally goes off on some concept, and they say oh, is that all...? but that's EASY
that is one of the courses I am teaching now, conceptual physics - no math at all! (Well, hardly any). I cover a lot of topics of current interest - global warming, nuclear weapons, energy issues - and have been talking a lot about the Japan nuclear plant situation
waves bye to Une flash
was disturbed to hear a few minutes ago.. another earthquake off Japan
i know what you mean, rast. i thought it was very bad when i have seen teachers say, "you may have done well before but THIS subject is really hard..."
7.4 aftershock, yes, sigh
nothing like setting them up to fail with that statement
i know. it didn't intimidate ME, but i bet it did for most kids.
that aftershock,on land? or off the ocast?
I taught that too, sue.. and we had fun
coast
do we know more about the earthquake? Where it struck?
that is a PB word
epicentre i mean
I think sometimes it's an effort to weed out the non committed student. My mom used to present horrific reading lists on the first day just to get lot of folks to drop, so the class wouldn't be too huge. she had no cap
i always told kids i worked with that there was no reason they couldn't understand things, that math was made to be understood.
epicenter
yes but rast, when a 7th grade math teacher says it, it's just plain wrong!
that was a good thing to say, hurshy
well yes. this was college level she was doing it
i'm ok with scaring college kids :) lol
my son is 32 and still doesnt understand it
go metric down there,it will be easier..everything is in groups of ten this way
my sister finally got basic math when she started helping her own kids with their homework
crossy, we were supposed to be all metric by 1976!
on the other hand, with my calculus physics students, I do try to prepare them for the amount of work they will need to put in - if they wait until the night before to do the homework they will be in trouble!
lol,we went in 1978
yes same with my chem students
metrics is so much easier than the English system (nothing person to you from across the pond)
And I use the metric system just about exclusively in both my classes...it was taught to us when I was in the 8th grade (1964) because it was supposed to be coming soon. Sigh.
personal, i.e.
cant remember when we did - must have been early 70's cos sister didnt learn imperial only metrix
yes we in the sciences wish the us would go metric for sure
The quote in my profile seems more true for me each day.
lol metric is widely used in the u,k
they get both on the packages i believe
I'll second that, BR
I got a job in a lab and they only had Fahrenheit thermometers, tear my hair out, have to do all these conversions
info on latest Japan quake (technically aftershock): http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes /recenteqsww/Quakes/usc0002ksa.php
its a funny old thing thou cos we still talk about 2 by 4s for pieces of wood and if its hot temps in celsius but cold in fahrenheit
who's in your icon, brabble?
thanks Sue
re your quote,i shudder at the thought that i would ever know it all babble, the day when i cannot learn something new or to simply why? is the day i ask you to bury me in a hole in the ground
speaking of physics, hubby is now out in a canoe with two other guys.. and a chain saw! They want to clear overhangs from "up the creek" for easier access when they lead a group.. so last night I told him, "prepare to get wet".. remember Newton's laws!
I do not know. Not me.
every action has a equal and opposite reaction lol
wet hubby and saw
Gotta go - the kids are up for breakfast finally
whats with licketys clues?
hi all
it looks like it would be some eccentric author or something.
or.. the time he climbed a ladder with a chain saw and cut a limb holding the ladder.. lol..
not up today, julie, clues in several profiles (I have Legend up)
ok thanks uusue
im not here often life to busy wasn't sure
The moniker for the avatar at another site I frequent is: Metagrobolized
Sky hooks are more efficient than ladders
yes but one doesn't always have kareem abdul jabar handy
you would hook to a branch above the one you are cutting?
lol,we used to send new kids on the job out for sky hooks, cans of steam,a bubble for a lever and a bindle roller for a wheelbarrow
good morning, everyone :)
hi nan
any clues for what the 10 starts with please
I think I have been BabbleRabbled
Hi nan
tr, kazz
tr 8-10
when the brearing went on the tyre spinde of a wheelbarrow,we would tell them that it had a torqued out bindle-roller and send them off for a new one with orders not to come back till they found a store that had one
bearing
oops.. brb.. driveway alarm going off
you have your driveway wired??
thanks Non
(((hugs all)))
oops Nan
driveway alarm??? someone trying to take the gravel?
((stidmama))
hey nan!
hey cross!
how's the grid today?
must be bad area indeed
I am trying to wake up enough to work on some lesson plans.
probably a motion se6 attached to the house that covers the driveway?
not bad so far,mo creampuff like yesterday but not bad
Perhaps it is time for the driveway to get up?
does anyone have all the 8's? -- still missing one
perhaps it's trying to run away...she has an electric fence for the driveway?
no creampuff? then what's the point? *grin*
hey BR
i only have the one you clued me
hi, stid!
Hello, stid
pls clue the last re6
I am missing one 8; I have ca8/50, cr8/45, and tr8/45
have cr, se and tr 8 -- missing?
morning, sunshines
you're missing the ca, nan, and I'm missing the se
good morning dear jes!
se8 is plural of se7: what you use to make something airtight
looking for ca 8/50 -- you are missing an se 7-8 combo uusue
how goes the battle?
howdy jes
phantom: sensate (so that's not it...)
wish I could get rid of that phantom castanet!
ca + la4/5 + babbler c**dem
thanks, unea
what you put on your driveway to protect it, or on wood to preserve it
yw
thanks for my first 7/8 combo!
that's the cr, I think, nan
ty une -- would never have found that one!
no, she's right
yw :-)
me either!!!
yes, but also the se
se7/8 is not the cr8 tarry stuff in the fireplace flue
the se is something you can put on your driveway? *thinks about driveway*
or on your molars.
ooh! ooh! Got it!
something my driveway, and decks, are in fact lacking :-(
as are my molars but I don't think they need it as much...
or as someone said last night: a large creature followed by a small one :-)
ca8 = ca + thin strip of wood (4 letters) + large size
so now i have all the 8's and I REALLY AM GRADING!!!!!
strange word
thanks, vanilla
go, sue! LOL
.. back.. hi stid! no sign of the weed whacking warriors..
yes, we have an alarm bc the way the house is situated, we can't see or hear an approaching vehicle
my grasscutting, weedwhacking guy came this morning -- sigh . . . all is nice and fresh
now if I just didn't have poison ivy . . .
go sue go!
*passes unea the aloe vera gel*
and the calamine lotion...
roca is a word, enable! it IS!
we have had the best results with "Ivy Dry"
I bought a new weedwhacker. A rechargeable battery one. Can't wait
my mom always said "just keep it cool and dry" -- easier said than done!
how cool, bichon!
nice.. no long cord to haul around
oohhh, will check out Ivy Dry -- CVS? Walgreen's? Target?
yes, Une.. but you have to ask for it.. for some reason, it is not usually on the shelf.. it is excellent
nice, bichon! We have an electric snowblower and a manual lawnmower (and very little lawn, it's mostly native plants)
Maybe I should try a weed whacker on the snow ... it could use a bit of a trim
any clues for the o in the 2nd row from the top please - need at least 1 for nbt
hey, BR :-)
or.. you could make snow sculptures, BR
you still have snow?
like in The Shining!!!
oc4
get some steroids for the PI and be done with it
altheas
no, just saying...
or4/5, kazz
ignore me
good clue, bichon! :)
os + blue-green colour
tried that once, BR -- didn't do that much . . . ;-(
o + Hollywood state, pl
oh, you were talking to BR, never mind - probably does have snow if he's in Antarctica :-)
that
oops that was the top o - got that
speaking of which... BR.. you are not near the flooding river, I hope?
or as was clued last night.. o+ commandment no no -- which brought forth lots of lewd ideas
BR, today's high: 75 :-)
I have Nutella here in the PB
About five miles from the Red River of the North
yum, nutella!
ah -- close to Winterpeg?
:-D
BBL *poof*
bye, une
i will also be back later - 102 to find
bye, une
The rain we are getting is finishing off the snow.
hi everyone could i have the word count please and the highest letters
ok. what the crap. why would a company put "vist our website or call our customer service department at..." if the customer service rep is just going to tell you to go to the website? why bother putting the phone number there? gah.
200 down :)

There was a shooting on campus (well, somewhat off campus, technically), jes; two students are suspected of shooting into the apartment of a third, hitting a friend who was visiting. The student who was shot is in critical condition, a football player, and in one of my classes this semester; one of the students accused of doing the shooting was in a class of mine when he was a freshman. So I am seriously bummed.

Hello, Boobear
BBL
nite hin, sleep well.x
bfn lyn
hey all
Does anyone know why Lickety's list no longer shows up on Babble expert? It just says the URL could not be found!
hi stid :)
Hi, just returning after a lunch break.
((((hugs all the UK types))))
hello Mother
it's done it the last couple of days jay, don't know why
howdy stid!
hi stidgemere :)
Hi mama. As I said, I'll meet you here!
Hi lilliann.
Oh, okay, glad I'm not the only one!
hey mcurl! are you having a lovely vacation?
decent. leaving in a bit for portland---hawaiian travelers return tonight; got hotel room so we can sleepover. Surgery approved and set for next Thurs 14th
wonderful on all counts -- will you be local for surgery? day visit, I suppose
I am glad you won't have to wait until June for relief
yes, over at the oly ortho off crosby
they are supposed to be good there
me to; when they called they asked if i would be interested in a cancellation opening.....almost said DUH
rofl... good for you!
anyone have the se 8/40?
plural se 7, how you protect roads and wood from weather
did that work jonesy?
ah...good clue...thank you Stidmama. Worked for me!
oh my -- well past halfway... I think I will go take a shower and warm up. The sun has finally been overcome by the clouds. *sigh*
thanks stid
it did . . . finally!! We don't have to protect much wood or roads from weather in Las Vegas :O)
glad for that frank and lilliann - sometimes my clues are pretty obscure
LOL jonesy, I suppose not
hi Stid
any clue is happily accepted even if i don't understand them! lol
hey boo!
hope all is well in the UK today? I am so far out of the loop while working on lessons that I barely keep up with the biggest headlines over here (strange murder suicide on a local road for example)
Noswaith dda - good evening all
haven't seen the news today stid, so not sure what is going on
ah, I'm not the person to ask, Stid...I live in a bubble these days.
Noswaith dda glant
neither have I but heard there had een another earthquake in Japan - but no loss of life or serious damage thankfully
Hi Lilli
noswaith dda, glantarell!
hope all is well with you glant and your extra house person
I hope that the bubble expands soon frank. *gentle hug*
oh, has there? glad to hear no-one has died.they've been through enough as it is!
I am still hiding in my room LOL - he was offered a mortgage to buy me out but has decided not to take the offer as he'd have to work to 75 to pay it back
Hi stidmam
i didn't mean i hope all is well with him, by the way glant!
I knew that Lilli ;-)
oooh. wow, glantarell
it's a shame that you have to hide. so are you putting it on the market?
yes -we have had the draft details and they are coming for the 3rd time to try to phoograph the exterior tomorrw - it's been too dull the other times apparently
oh right. are you glad he can't buy it?
thank you Stid...it will do. I have a new flatmate in the apartment (needs must) and that is helping..
hopefully it'll be sunnier tomorrow
it would be easier if he could because i could just pack ny stuff and go. selling it means we have to wait for a buyer - we are a lonmg way from anywhere so houses here either sell very quickly or hang around forever, but it is a unique house so i am hoping it is of interest
good for you frank. I am glad you have some human contact. I was worried you were "coccooning" too much
there. down to 100. (((hugs all))) I hope your afternoons/evenings will go well.
i can understand that glant. well, i hope all goes well for you and you sell it quickly so you can get on with your life...stres free and openly without hiding! :)
All for me now. Best wishes to everyone.
bye stid. tc.hugs
thanks, Stid - you take care now
back in a bit, once I have warmed up. anyone wants to find that last 100 for me... LOL *poof*
bye stidgemere, tc and hugs
no, but you can find my last 64 stid :)
*stidmama
Lilliann - I love what you've written in your profile. Jesse would have laughed...nice tribute :)

I'll say, Lilliann...he certainly was.
i'm sorry frank.hugs.

i didn't realize who you were until you said about my profile frank. my deepest sympathy and he will never be forgotten by people whio knew him here :)

Frank? If you are still here, I am truly sorry for any hurt or offence I cause you by inadvertently letting other
got it
good pcj, i'm not good at cluing
Babblers know about Jesse's passing. It was certainly not done out of any thing other than genuine grief. My sincere condolences to you, Frank.
ah, no worries, Lilliann...
Frank, I'm grateful you came in! I hope you know we will always be here anytime you want to chat, or play, or get hugs. {{ }}
And Soo, I'm grateful you let us know {{ }}
Water under the bridge, Mary...I am upset that people got so nasty with Julian though. He was only trying to look out for me and my interests. He certainly didn't deserve what he got. Julian was very, very important to Jesse - so that makes me unhappy.
and thank you, Ch1212 :) that's very kind of you
I totally understand, and I deeply regret the unpleasantness under such tragic circumstances. Frank. But it eases my mind a bit, now that you know that there was absolutely no malice or ill-will on my part, Frank. I was, and remain, bereft, about Jesse's untimely death.
ditto ch1212. i don't know you frank, but if you ever need a chat or a laugh we're always here as we are very sad people!! :)
Now now Lilliann. We are not sad people, we are devoted people (that sounds nicer, huh?) : P
mm. ok!! if you really need to sugar coat it molly........lol
lol Molly! Yes, 'devoted'... 'detailed', 'obsessive' ...
Or addicted? ;)
basically, we are addicted!!
snap jc and nice to see you
I'll say. As a fine one to talk myself, of course.
don't normally see you this time of nite
Oh, I never thought that, Mary - in hindsight, I don't know how I would have handled releasing the news, because I was having a lot of trouble dealing with it. I just didn't like the nastiness and arguing that came afterwards...I know if Jesse had been able to see it, he would have hated that.
Ah...there you are, Julian :)
My chog disappeared for ages. I'd also just like to say how much I miss NB - he was such a lovely young man.
mine is ok glant
he was indeed, Glantarell - thank you
i better dive in and find some words or i'll be here all night!!!
it does it sometimes, i just need to remember to hit refresh occasionally
Yes, he certainly was.
down to 182
Yes Frank, I'm here - somewhere!
I keep losing myself in this grid.
Thank you, Frank. I found it difficult to handle the news. I just can't even begin to imagine what you went through. And I would like to echo what the others said this evening. You will always be as welcome as the flowers in spring here in Babble land. For hugs, moral support, or just sympathetic ears/eyes.
I see you, Julian - and awww - what a lovely picture of Valerie!
Well that I can certainly relate to, Mary...thank you.
60 here glant and getting slower!!
how old is valerie now j.c
hello all! Just stopping for a sec before playing with Gage some more..

Hello M9
Oh hello m9, how lovely to see you!
She is 11, getting on for 12, lilliann.
Thank you
(I really shouldn't be here now! SHHHHH.lol)
sc 6/21 x 2 and sc 6/24?
Ok. Shhh...
Instead of having my planning day yesterday I went to visit Tim's parents. Maybe last time to see my FIL. So I don't regret it.. but I have no idea what I'm doing with my scouts this evening!LOL
aww, bless her, i remember seeing her and you on tv, can't remember the show years ago, and she was only 2, 4, sorry i have a very bad memory!i love her collar, i could do with a belt like that but would have to be much bigger!! lol
sc6/21... think magnitude only. not a vector
aww, M9 - well I'm sure that's a choice you won't regret. scouts...I don't know what scouts do. put up tents and tie some knots.
LOL... we've already done that!!!
sorry to hear that m9
And woggles, Frank.... don't forget the woggles.....
I give them that skinny red licorice.. and if they get the knot correct.. they can eat it.
and get badges like the brownies
ahhh, good incentive..
last week we finished up "ready man"...
"Joan Collins Fan Club", lilliann.
got that one m9
i love the skinny red liquorice. we have it here and when i was school years ago we'd buy it from the local shop at lunchtime and eat it in our art lessons
I've changed my avatar to a photo of her in my car.
ah... then like a little bike is called but minus one of teh double vowel

Someone who conducts business could be called a tr 10/77
It was a Merc, lilliann. And surprisingly, a lemon.

hmm... I'm looking for a string of co6's at the end of the co's
I've no idea. Never owned one.

They're probably much better than the old Reliant van I had in my youth. What a clunker!
always had luck with mazda 626's
3 wheeler1 a bit like me a clunker, but they had nore balance than i do! :)
we have big bertha!
my van now is so soulless.. it doesn't really have a name! Most of mine have in the past...
I wanted to name it Diva (because the license plate starts DVV).. but the kids don't like that for some reason
Aw, I had a 1967 Dodge van I called Big Bertha. :P
My mum named my tiny nissan micra 'the passion wagon'...just because it's an astonishingly red car. red everything.
I miss that van! :'(
I remember my little blue Pinto named Adelaide (because she was lamentable)
oh that is TOO funny Frank!
ours is a vauxhall omega estate and my hubby named her that as she has a big bottom(sticky out boot)
I think Diva is a fine name, m9.
I'm sure you do J.C. LOL
i like that m9
We had a huge ol' ford truck we just named "Dude"
Hmmm. My 20 yr old son calls his VW Golf his 'Shaggin' Wagon'. As his mother, I have never enquired why.
lol frank
I wouldn't.

If anyone here wears cr4's I beg your pardon.
I hear they are comfortable- but UGLY!

It's been known to happen.
Will somebody help me leave?
Sorry lilliann - just realised I was confused earlier when you mentioned the dog and thought you meant the first, rather than current for the moment. :P
don't you start jc, it's bad enough trying to have a conversation with kap!! :)
lilli don't apologize..love your way of speaking
Hmmm. Would you like me to press the ejector button, Kaplan?
why would we want you to leave, kap?

hello J.C. long time
Well hello, westford...
BBL
thanks wwest, glad someone does :)
You guys are getting me hooked...I have to stop.
Indeed.
This is Babble, Kaplan - not Hotel California. ;)
lol
Welcome to the Hotel Babble-Fornia
Ah, so that's what it is...
:)
is she the 2nd then j.c?
(poof)
I'm the poof, but never mind.
m's mashed
i just remember (sorry) years ago seeing you and valerie on tv, she was just 2 i think?
gj jes
lol jc
jes I have a strange cat question when you have a minute
Possibly, yes. She has been at various ages.
What is that, westford?
I have experience with strange felines.
and i'm not saying you're old jc as i'm only 8 or 9 years behind you
alright, west
Hmmm...52 in May. That's old enough.
we adopted our daughter's cat..they flew her out from California we already have 2 cats male and female
All altered, of course?
we set Lucy up in our bedroom..food, bed, litter box, toys so she could feel comfortable
then i'm 10 years behind you jc
i'm june
I see...
now she won't come out ( yes, all altered ) and won't let the others in
that was January
How long have you had her there so far?
Oh...
we call it her 'ivory tower'
how old is she, and had she ever been around other cats before?
Well that isn't a terribly long time really. I would probably start leaving the bedroom door open.
we bring her down and she goes right back up or goes to the basement and climbs in the rafters
If you keep her shut in there, the cats won't really have a chance to adjust to each other. Oh yes? (Just read your next post.)
she's 8 years old Jes and was adopted with a male cat who died last April
she's had to cope with the flight, new surroundings, give her time to settle in
we don't shut the door
Yes, some cats take a good while to adjust.
she loves us just not the other cats
let her mix witht he other cats and see how they go
I have known of two cats who were adopted into the same home and took over three months to stop fighting - and now get along very well.
we have tried but the two females get all fuzzy and growl and spit
older cats are often slower to adjust. she's had a lot of changes and is trying to insert into an existing dynamic. it's not always easy. i'd say give it more time, and encourage but don't force her to come out more. do not force her to let the other cats in, that room is her "safe spot"
some cats settle quickly and others don'tit's like people i suppose
Yes lilliann and jesdraggon, I think so.
thanks jes and J.C. and lilli
if she feels trapped or threatened, she needs a place she can retreat to, or you risk fear aggression issues.
I know some do take a good while to adjust.
she is such a sweetheart
you can start encouraging her to come out by putting her meals outside the door, and slowly moving them further from the room as she is more comfortable coming out.
Everything must be on her terms, as jesdraggon says.
i've had cats who come in and take over nut i've also had cats who take time to adjust.give her plenty of lone, cuddle if she likes that, even in front of your other cats to let them know that you have accepted her
You can't force anything...
i would definitely leave her her own liter box in the room though; likely to have sharing issues if you don't, and she may just start peeing in the room without a box.
I've heard that rubbing the cats with the same towel to transfer scent and make them all smell alike works
sorry, spelling crap!
i'm skeptical about humans' ability to confuse cats by smell... they are pretty discerning. however, there are several relaxation pheromone sprays which might help chill them all out a little, and/or lavender may help
cats are selfish, odd creatures and will do what they want, but i would make more of a fuss of her infront of them
i do that with my to6 and my female hates it, but she is the bully even tho we got her after my otherone
give all of the cats attention--you want the new cat to feel welcome, but you also don't want the established cats to feel like they're being replaced, or like the new cat is stealing their resources (that'd be you. cats regard you as a resource. don't you love it?)
what great advice thanks all
They definitely do, jes. We are merely their servants. :P
no you don't jes, but with cats and dogs you need to let them know who is the boss
it's been so cold here we think things may change when she can go outdoors
Let a cat know who's boss? HAHAHA!
I have a pillow on my couch..."Dogs have masters...Cats have staff"
To the cat, THEY are. Always!
vert true jc!1
That's very true, westford.
not everything is a dominance problem, lilli. this sounds much more like a fear/uncertainty problem, and addressing it as a dominance problem can make it much worse.
Hi everyone.
hi Mom
There are huge and important differences between fear behaviors and aggression behaviors. this cat is not chasing the other cats around the house, she's staked out a small territory that she doesn't want to leave and resents invasion of. that's fear, not dominance, not aggression. don't confuse them.
i have some saying for cats! there is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast!
Hi Westford
women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should just relax!
(((Lilliann))) Amen to that
cats are like chocolates, you can never have just one...
and unless the other cats are harassing or attacking her, there's no reason to assume dominance or aggression issues on their part either. best to not try to impose the hierarchy you think they should want; they may not agree and you will just exacerbate the existing issues.
dogs come when they're called, cats take a message and get back to you later!
That's funny, lilliann - about the snooze button!
Is there a re6/21 between 7/32 disavow and 6/21 to remodel? If so, a clue? Please!
every dog has it's day but the nights are reserved for CATS!
I have known cats who come when called. Mine would usually ignore, unless she knew there was food being served.
we did have a break through of sorts our sweet male cat lay down on one side of the door and Lucy was on the other and their noses were almost touching and she let him stay there without seeming to be afraid
Awww. How sweet, westford - and encouraging.
ahh that sounds good west
my cats co4 when called, and know their individual names. they also are trained to go to specific places for me4s and not to eat out of each other's dishes. cats are quite smart and can be trained--mo4 just aren't, because people assume it can't be done.
K.C. ( short for Kitty Cat ) is not at all aggressive
Uh oh, sorry. Into the PB with me...
that's good, west. let them get used to each other calmly.
its difficult for anything/one new to intedrate into an established family! it'll take time but i'm sure she will fit in
((mom)) sorry i missed you
i've made your present, and will get it posted tomorrow
*intergrate
(((Lilliann)). I kind of snuck in
Ruby, our calico keeps trying to go in the room and Lucy chases her right out..maybe it's a girl thing
you are such a sweetheart
al 6/18 - any clues please
Hello, Mom.
hi mom
re 6/21 re + what you get in your Christmas stocking if you're naughty
Hi Jes
hello JC, it is the middle of the night there, is it not?
my female came in and just took over the house, my to6 didn't have a chance
al+past tense of ingest, plural
thnx jes
no, you are mom. hopefully if i'm ok in the morning...mmmm, actually mean later as it is morning will make a pumpkin bread
thank you so much for sending it.x
we have just one cat but puppy sit my icon. Ziggy doesn't like that and will take to the opposite end of the house
welcome
mmm good lillian do you make them in coffee cans?
thx luv
xx Lilliann, I was happy to do so.
it says on the box you can add raisins, orange juice, have you ever added mom?
yw vanilla
no I haven't Lillliann. No one would eat it if I did that
i've got 4 established cats and 2 established dogs, and move foster dogs and cats through on a frequent basis.
i've never made it before west
oh really!
I do hope you and your family will like it. I used the little pans, made 6 loaves and everyone of them are gone
oh no, in this house raisins are only for oatmeal cookies and orange juice is just to drink. :-)
i have loaf tins, so is that ok?
oh sure
ro6,18 please?
you could even make them in cupcake pans. I think there are directions for that as well
it's a man's name jes
kind of old fashioned
i've got the 6/21 name. is the 6/18 also a name?
bless you for your rescuing the dogs and cats Jes
oh no that's another one
thanks Westford
thanks, mom :) i do what i can, though i'm not a high-volume rescue.
usually just 1 or 2 at a time
I know Une of Babble does rescues as well
I think the one you are looking for is plural latin for list
nm. found it... was being blind and thought i couldn't spell it, but tried it anyway
it's latin, but means towards the nose, not sure what the latin list word would be.
Yes, Mom - agreed. It's wonderful that you are rescuing, Jes. I'm a strong advocate of animal rescue and adoption.
All mine have been rescues.
oh I was repeating a clue got my words mixed up
chat going quick, just read about you fostering animals jes....good for you, i would like to do that...but knowing me and the bairn we would keep most of them which wouldn't please hubby!!
rescues lose more foster homes that way, lilli...
lol Lilliann
Lillian, Annie is coming over again on Saturday to spend the day with us. :-)
mine too jc.
Glad to hear it, lilliann.
i want annie mom, she reminds me of our sam
I don't think the kids will part with her. I tell them though that you want her
You would ship an animal overseas? I wouldn't if it could be avoided. It's often very hard on them...
OH no, JC. Not at all
if i could have a dog i would, but it would have to be taught to run next to a disabilty scooter and i don't think it's fare as i can't always go out, some days i can't get out of bed so i'd be selfish
she joking jc
I keep our sons golden some times and I posted her picture as my icon and Lillilann has fallen in love with her
Ah, good. ;)
she knows i love the pup as it remimnds me of a dog we had
hey, yall. Any Android users out there? I'm having a Wifi problem
Awww lilliann, I'm sorry to hear that.
heaven forbid, JC, never would I do that
hello Seain
Well hello, Séain!
that's why i have cats as you can just let them out anytime
hi, mom, JC, lillian, et al
hi dc
hi dc
hi, js
Ziggy has never been outside
er, jes
I wouldn't lilliann - cars are a real danger.
No, Mom. I never let mine out either...
I don't I will even get half tonight. It is almost bedtime and I only have 104 words :-(
no worries jc, it's life1
Lilliann, I will try and match my dress color to your present, then you be present at the wedding too
My parents let their cat out, but she doesn't stray off our of the garden when they're outside with her.
i live outside of durham city in the country and we have a big field infront of out house and the cas go hunting for mice jc
No worries, lilliann? Well I worry about their safety.
Erm - make that 'out' of the garden.
what wedding mom?
Ah, I see lilliann.
JC, she meant about her and her scooter I think
I'm in the countryside also but our road gets a fair amount of cars going past during the day.
what colour do you need? blue? what shade. i've made a turquoisy necklace, earings and bracelet
Lilliann, didn't I tell you...... (shame on me) Shay and Whitney are being married June 4
I haven't found a dress yet
looked today and you either look matronly or like a slut
ooohhh Lilliann, I am so excited, I can't wait. BUT do not be in a hurry to post them. Make it easy on your self
no you didn't. good for them. and you will never look matronly or slutty!!
Mom are you mother of the bride or the groom?
I don't know, some of those dresses ... wow
Westford, mother of the groom
well, i have made a couple and can't make my mind up what to send to you, so i'll send both :)
that's a little easier..it was for me until DIL's mother started driving me nuts lol
I tried one on today that was a dress and jacket and it looked like something Queen ElizabethII would wear
i loive infront of a school jc but they go out at night and sleep in the day
LIllian, that is way too kind. I will love which ever color you send me.
*live
son and dil were married in October and she insisted I start looking for my dress in Dec
West, lol, I went shopping with the mother of the bride today.
same colour, but i couldn't decide which style to send you :)
Oh Westford, that is unreal
i'm missing an se5/10 and 6/18. have the motion detector, clue for the other 6?
she's not all bad..10 years and 2 darling granddaughters later
Lilliann, flip a coin and when it is in the air you will know which to send.
no, i'll send both
I wouldn't think she would be Westford, having you for a mom-in-law and all
then you can decide
she and I have very different personalities..she's not as laid back as I am
((((Lilliann)))) what a sweetheart!
(and send the others back)
don't have them yet jes
mno, keep them, my present to you
June 4th sounds ideal for a wedding day
Jes, I only have the sensor
se5.10/6.18 is like he***, the indian hair or hand dye

or one of the bridesmaid's walk her in
thanks bab, that's a long ways from where i was looking!
i can't remember the film that a dog bought in the rings for a wedding?
there are no bridesmaid or groomsmen. We have one other son and Whitney has a sister. They will be their maid of honor and best man
his two dogs did that lol
oh Lilliann that would be a hoot
i cannot stay, but wish to say howdy and i have been remiss in my daily book quote so here it is before i go....
I find television very educational. Every time someone turns it on, I go in the other room and read a book.:)

lovely of you to share them though
dogs laugh with their tails!
*legs
dogs are not our whole life but make our life whole!
dogs are miracles with paws1
i'll shut up now!
those are really nice lilli
Dogs keep us broke - just made an appt with vet to get teeth cleaned - I'm guessing $400
i suppose they are true, the same as the cat ones i posted earlier
ouch lyn
omg, lynn! i don't know how vets can charge so much!!
but dogs, cats, rabbits any animal cost where vets are concerned!!
do you really want to know, lilli, or do you just want to hold onto your blind outrage?
you can gat a good brake job for 400 smackers!
saying that our local vet wanted to charge us £600 to take a tooth out from my to6
oh it is fair enough I suppose, got to be caefully monitored when 'under'. I just need to maintain a very very strict dental routine after they are clean
because i'm willing to explain a lot, but i gotta warn you, i get dead tired of people flying off the handle about how vets gouge without knowing a single thing about how the business goes.
do you have a problem with me jes?
I don't begrudge the money Jes - just hurts the hip pocket a bit
because i've spent thousands on my pets
no, i have a problem with people (many many people on a daily basis) being upset about how vets "take advantage" or "gouge" or "overcharge" or "don't care" about how people can't afford pets.
and I am perfectly willing to calmly explain why things are expensive, but it seems rare that people want to here it.
hear it, sorry.
i've never said any of that
and comments like "omg, lynn! i don't know how vets can charge so much!!" are not exactly soothing to my ears.
you didn't say it, but you certainly imply it with comments like the one I just quoted.
Sorry I started that Jes - I think very very highly of vets - and know that they are NOT millionaires, nor are likely to be.
so. do you really want to know how vets can charge so much, or do you just want to be outraged, and i should drop it?
right, 1, when i got my last cat from a rescue centre, one of the people who worked there said that the medicene they got which was the same medicene that vets had and from the dame places were a quarter of the price that vets charged
no apologies needed lynxxx.
so thjat is where i'm geting it from
sure, but the rescue had much lower overhead, and probably also got grants and other financial support.
most rescues also offer extremely limited medical treatments, and if they have a licensed veterinarian on staff, that veterinarian may be volunteering and holding down a different full time job.
and by the way, don't have a go at me, as i' spent alot of money on the same cat when she dislocated her hip and i hadn't had her insured and i was glad to pay it as she can now walk
same thing with spay/neuter/vaccine clinics--they do high volume, low cost procedures and can undercut a full-service veterinary clinic on those procedures, but can't offer much of anything else.
well, i'm sorry, but i was going with what she said to me and that she also never insures her pets but i do
it's a trade off.
wats the 10 letter word
please?
BBL
tr10 - one who does business deals.
I'm not having a go at you, lilli, i'm trying to explain why something that you apparently found "omg" worthy is the way it is.
TY jacula, great clue!
veterinarians charge what they need to charge in order to stay in business, and very little else. it is not a business to get rich in, and while i'm sure there are individuals out there who are exceptions to this, the vast majority of veterinarians are not of a finances-first mindset
fair enough, but i still think vets overcharge and that is why there are so many rescue animals about because people can't afford the fees. you workl with it everyday and we're bothe entiltled to out opinions!
ty jacula got it
the tr10 also consistes of two 5-letter words that are in the grid
sorry about spelling! i'm tired!!
Hello all. Lil and Jes - I'm sorry to see you are at odds. The prices in UK and Aus differ, but to be honest, the higher prices when you go to a private vet's surgery don't. However, most animal sanctuaries here in UK don't get grants or discounts and are run by vounteers. Lil - if you need assisted vet help, try the PDSA clinic or even the RSPCA one. You will be asked for a donation, but no one will ever refuse to treat an animal in need.
ty gwen
y/w Gwen and Diablo.
well, i don't know what i can say to help you understand, but maybe this will help? the average veterianry student graduates with over $100,000 in debt, and takes a job that pays less than $60,000. That average student is still in debt for student loans 10-12 years later. Does that really sound to you like a profession that is overcharging across the board?
rote
much better to have pet gerbils or mice. very low maintenance!
I do know that it takes longer to train to be a vet than it does to be a doctor.
sorry ment to type over dere
for the pdsa etc you need to be on benefits jac
i don't know the averages on debt in countries other than the US, but the prices that Lynxxx mentioned are pretty similar to what many clinics in the US charge, or even a bit lower.
Gwen - you've got to be joking! Our mice, hamsters and gerbil cost me more in vets' fees for cancer ops etc., than the rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs or cats ever have.
i'm not saying that vets don't deserve the money and that they don't work hard but here it is really expensive to take your animal toa vet, just to be seen, and loads of pople can't afford it
stay away from pet fish. big equipment outlay
Contrast that with human medicine, where the average graduate takes a job paying over $100,000 a year, and much of the client's expense is defrayed by insurance or government. Medical students are typically out of student debt by year 4.
WTF? cancer surgery on a gerbil???
Well, yes, Gwen, if you love your pet.
You DID say that vets don't deserve the money, lilli. that is exactly what "i still think vets overcharge" means
it means you believe they charge more than their services are worth. that's what you said.
seriously, never heard of a little bitty rodent getting cancer, except if it's given cancer in a lab or something like that
bullshit jes... the avergae medical studet graduates with over 100,000 i debt... much higher if they had to take out undergrad loas too. the avergae doc speds 20-30 years payig off their school loas
We had a mouse that lived to be 9 years old, which, believe me, is very, very old for a mouse! He spent his last few hours wrapped in bubble wrap and foil down my cleavage and he died a happy mouse.
awwwwwwww
sidenote to the rodent topic--pocket pets often cost more because you need separate, special (expensive) equipment to work on them, things take longer and it's a pain in the butt to get any kind of training in how to do them. they are not just miniature dogs.
excuse me, i didn't say thay didn't deserve it, but they do overcharge! they charge 3 or 4 times the price of the medicine that they get it for!
excuse me, i didn't say thay didn't deserve it, but they do overcharge! they charge 3 or 4 times the price of the medicine that they get it for!
sorry, hadn't realized i did it twice
Gwen - most mice get cancer if they live past 8 months of age.
you must have a different source of numbers than me, kje. i'll defer to you, because i'm using (possibly incorrectly) recalled info from about 6 years ago. the veterinary student debt info, however, i just read an article on in JAVMA a couple months ago.
Jes - yes, I know, re operating on small rodents. Our vet is pretty good at it.
I'm apparently not understanding you lilli. Can you explain the difference between "they overcharge" and "they don't deserve it"?
BNT finally
ack, i me5 NBT
thaks for the list jac
i didn't say they don't deserve it, so you're now putting words into my mouth!!
kje - y/w.
are you specifically meaning the mark-up on products? that varies greatly between clinics, but the reason for that is to help defray the cost of everything else. The vet can't charge you specifically for the power it takes to run the surgery lights, or the electrocautery.
Well, i guess they could, but how pissed off would THAT make people?
to be honest, my mice experience is pretty small. but lot of gerbil experience. of course this is from back when gerbils only came in 1 color. who knows how their gene pool has been screwed up now
ok jes
my mouse experiece cosists of trapping them ad stuffig holes with steel wool to keep them out
Please explain it to me then, lilli. How, does "they overcharge" not mean "they don't deserve it"? because I am utterly failing to understand the difference there.
yes kje, and they do love peanut butter
stats on the 10 please?
tr10/77
tr10/77
thank you
Gwen - my gerbil was of the common sandy brown kind and he didn't get cancer. He just died when he was about 3. He lived in a glass tank with lots of digging material in it in the sitting room opposite the TV. It had to be opposite the TV, 'cos he loved a UK TV series called 'The Bill' and would tunnel up and sit on top of his little wooden house to watch it as soon as he heard the theme tune. No idea why he liked it so much! We didn't always want to watch it, but would leave it on for him while we got on with other things elesewhere sometimes!
all right, children, let's try another topic, hmm? 8-D
hi dr
HI Kje!
how are you doing?
yep, gerbils are not a long-lived type of critter. but cute! so, is "The Bill" a cop drama or what?
al6/21?
Gwen - yes, it was a cop drama.
al+ beginning of a movie house
ty! like the jazz singer ; )
very nice of you to let the lil critter watch it. hope it wasn't too violent LOL
al6/21 - plant, like The Rose of Sharon that is one of the marsh mallows.
back for a minute, here is a word game so addictive, that you may as well give up everything else in life but babble and reading books!....
http://www.moonpod.com/English/downloa d_wordpirate.php
poink!
Gwen - no, in Basil's day (that was the geribl's name), the show was pretty tame.
BBL_ Have to get Jakester from Rehearsal
What's the difference between a mountain climber and a tsetse fly?
unknown, one's a sc6, the other's a vector.
uh oh i forecast a bad pun
ding ding ding! Gwen wins :D
oh my i wish i got that clue..ty seain
Having said that, Gwen, my kids' friends, a brother and sister, had 2 gerbils. One was black and was called Satan (that was the brother's, of course) and the other was white and was called Lily. One day, the brother and siter awoke to find that Lily had ea5/10 Satan! Head and most of body gone, only limbs remaining. :-(((
hooray! what do i git????
seain have you ever heard an ac capella c groups caled cartoon johnny?
joyous recognition :)
lily saved the world from satan!!! LOL
no, TO. should i check them out?
first an5?
well i'd appreciate an opinion.
an5, add a vowel to the end of the word ahead of it
a+not far
ty
an5 = an + one of the two things on the side of your head.
listening now :)
jacs you have stats! MWAH!
can someone post the lickety URL again?
http://r46.me/BabbleClues.html, but he didn't update today
i named many of my gerbils very silly names, like Qatara Depression and Cumulo Nimbus
http://r46.me/BabbleClues.html
dcs, that's quite funny, given the clue I just posted.
Stats are in my profile if anyone needs them.
oh, indeed so, jac :)
i used the list in uneaxe's profile, shirlock
TO - LOL. y/w.x
the link gave me yesterday's stats
:(
ah, indeed. none today :)
Today's stats are in my profile.
jess may a ask a quick vet opnion?
TO, good sound. I don'l like all their arrangements, but they're all solidly executed. I'd be up for seeing them live.
sure, to
ifno, that is fine
thx for the list info
well, 95 to go, gonna stop there. early day tomorrow. bye bye gerbil lovers and all!
go for it, i'll answer if i can
'Bye Gwen.
g'night Gwen
gn
sleep sweet, gwen
y/w Shirlock
hi gwen. had my nose in the grid and missed you. good night
gn gwen, sweet dreams
I like that they're not all-male :)
Lil - are you still here?
aye
Ahh, I see you are.
springer spaniel, age 13, eating a lot, but wasting, vet can find nothing. has HBP that has gone up, med increased. thyroid ok. i thought cancer but no mention of that. (firend's dog).
seain, i agree! i think part bobs w ithout the edge, part boy band, echoes of classic 50's groups and doo wop. variety makes them good for a family afternnon
blood sugar is normal?
huh. they performed walking distance from me last month. LOL
agreed, TO
i mean i think they would have a wide appeal
i assume so jess
2d an6/18?
indeed so :)
i did not like everything but this is feel good music
if they haven't already, i'd start with blood work for kidney and blood sugar. high thyroid is actually very uncommon in dogs (common in cats), so i would be very surprised if it was a thyroid thing.
ah seain, too bad you are not close enought to come to our grand openeing gala
i would hope they'd done a full panel and not just a thyroid though, so that should have been checked.
vomiting or diarrhea? change in activity level? anything besides weight loss to go on?
think they did kidney, not sure about diabetes. owener unsure re second opinion.
no change in activity level, dog pretty sedate, yet engaged
the list is pretty long, TO. hard to narrow down without seeing the labs and doing an exam...
2nd an6/18 is a heating and cooling process to prevent cracking. An + man's name/ (Think of the moon & Mrs. Armstrong but spell his first name diffeently.)
but could be liver problem (advanced liver problems may have normal values on blood because they've gone up and then come back down, as there is so little liver left that enzyme values drop)
ty jess. at this p oint owner deciding what if anything to do. i.e. if it was cancer she would not treat it so why bother
RA6.21 is almost a nearby (to me) town in WV.
splenic tumor, intestinal lymphoma, cushings disease
ty
does the dog drink more/pee more than it used to?
At 13, I would think it's down to slow kidney failure, possibly due to being fed dry food.
nope
TO - is the dog male or female?
male. a pretty good age for a large springer
then probably not adrenal, kidney, or diabetic--any of those should have increased thirst and urination
Could be a small testicular cancer.
old age or if like human, malabsoprtion
i'm a fan of checking urine for infection in things like this, have come up with a startling number of dogs that don't show typical urinary tract signs but have LOTS of bacteria in the urine
they may have done that at same time as blood? you'd have to ask owner/vet
Sometimes, animals (and humans) get so old they jut can't process food any more. That might be what's happening.
malabsorption should result in diarrhea
thanks jess. she keeps complaining but takes no action.
Jes - not always.
but might just have increased fecal volume, normal texture.
did holly get adopted? she is so cute
same with intestinal lymphoma. ultrasound would be good to look at liver, spleen, intestine, but as the owner points out--if surgery isn't an option if they find something, is it worth spending time and money on further diagnostics?
holly did get adopted, FINALLY!
hi all. can someone help with the ca 8, please?
s
:D i never had a dog but love beagoles
so it depends on if just having more specific answers and some preparation for progression is worth the testing.
***sneaks in to hug joey and runs off again***
ca+thin strip of wood, + babbler c**dem
*pounces on stid as she tries to run off*
Jes - depends if you have the money, I guess.
i can't find ac? :(
thanks stid
yoiks! jes! ger-off!!! *struggles to escape*
Which ac, TO?
ac means to attack, use the double consonant
*hugs stid then lets her go*
jes, sorry, don't get the thin strip of wood
/6, but no matter, i am not finishing
thanks jes. *walks off in dignified manner* I just finished supper while babbling and must continue my work on the poetry unit. *poof*
so it's owner's option if it's worth it to them to pursue further diagnostics if all likely treatments are not going to be options anyway.
4/6
Yes, jes.
first an6?
thin strip of wood is another word in the grid, like the woodworking tool but minus the last letter/vowel
an6 is an+anagram of bird bed
ooo i just monkeyed it
but thx jes
owl 239, 6 left, grid wins
46
so if they haven't already, TO, i'd recommend a urinalysis, because that is simple and non-invasive, and might give answers--infection should be easy to treat, and if they find sugar in the urine or something else, might narrow it down some even if it's not an infection.
TO, you must do the last 6!
Ah, 46! LOL
jes, still not getting it. sorry
but do wish i had the q6
one who q5
ok. uhm. first 4 letters are like the big fancy lilly but missing a consonant in the middle
oh heck, ty shirl
joey - the la is an anagram of the ha4 - to stop.
then not these, but ****e
that work better, joey?
qu5 is to repeat what someone said. qu6 is one who does that.
ca8?
it sure did. I never heard of that word being a thin strip of wood. thanks, jac
joey - well now you know!
night all happy babbling
so don't forget to enter that word, and add a vowel to the end for another :)
g'night, TO
i miss lickety
i sure do.
nite TO
jes, I had that word and the 5 too, just didn't put that together with a thin strip of wood
ah, i see
I guess yo were never a builder, nor studied history or achitecture then, Joey?
and here i was hoping i'd helped for several words :D
all play nice, we all need each other
*poof*
that's ok, you were willing to be patient and try to help me
Or even architecture. (Gawd! My art teacher would kill me for making a typo on that word, as would my English teacher, were either still around.
no, jac, I didn't go in any of those directions
lots of help! but still miss lickety ; )
'course, joey! that's why i'm hanging around.
kje - repeat after me slowly, 'Babble without Lickey IS possible'.
Now, breathe deeply, compose yourself and just look at the grid.
but i still miss him
37 left
heh. me too, kje. :)
snap kje
but I would def die without your list jac
Puts kje on that bed that they used to use in loony bins and applies electrodes to brain. (How's that for an un PC posting!)
kje - now you're just being silly. LOL
not silly... whiny... i am tired!!!!
Babble IS not your world. Babble is just a distraction from the general madness of the modern world.
os6?
o+theft
o and to thieve
bone word,kje.
ah yes... a medical term and i miss it... sigh
ca8?
's okay, kje. I missed the to6 and 7 for a long time.
ca8 is misspelled lilly + not these but ****e
got it, thx jes
ca8 is a misspelling of a word for a grreek basket, wider at the top, denoting fruitfullness.
Well, I'll be off now and leave you lot to it. Enjoy the rest of the grid.
sleep sweet, jac
25
ty jac
gn

how would you come across that?
I volunteer at a mental health site with a lot a seniors doing research
ah
ro6/21?
nice dangling participle for me
to7?
first name of the sheriff in dukes of hazzard
ro6/21 is a man's name; i think it was one of... yeah. wht bab said
well, it is a arther weak article... good idea, but did't show what we wated
thx BR
to7 is to+ ends like lasagne cheese
remember to use the double consonant.
then change the last letter for another to7
and then there's a to7 that's plural of male kitty
ah.. ty
More and more seniors need help with loneliness, isolation, abuse and depression
indeed
instead, we bomb other countries and try ban interracial marriage
who's trying to ban interracial marriage now, bab? I thought that fight was... well, not necessarily settled, but at least hidden
*peers in sheepishly*
