Clues are up

We've heard about some really nasty and deluded people lately -- must remember there are others. I was at a funeral today for the sister of a friend of mine -- this lady was an exceptionally wonderful person who had suffered from MS for many years but still kept her spirits up -- she wrote "I have vastly enjoyed my life and I cannot believe that death can be less interesting or splendid" when she knew her days were numbered.

Hey Mema
How serendipitous that the dolphin and it's descriptive word are both in the grid.
morning, all!
Hi Sue
angel, so glad to hear you are doing well.
Hello uusue!
and hi, molly and car!
Oh boy, Molly....will have to have another cup of coffee to figure that one out!
uusue...i need to get back on track with my diet and fitness....can you share your motivation?
The i babblet
in 4?
oh, car, you don't want my motivation, I've gained 10 pounds this semester and am totally messed up. I need to get back on track too!!
Oui, and the H word that describes it.
OK then! Let's get back to walking and eating right!!!!
ah, thx, molly (was briefly looking for river until I realized there's no v)
morning everyone! :)
Had to google it, but I do have them both!!!
Hello Angela!!!
I really need to, car, and am so often on the point of giving up (I'm too old, nobody succeeds at losing weight anyway, etc etc etc)
Oh boy! Angelsong and Angela are here!!!! Must type carefully!
morning, angel!
getting a little babbling in before going out to enjoy the sunshine on the Harley.
lol car :)
I have pretty much kept of the initial 12 lb I lost, but I need to push forward. I have about 60 more to go!
i did mean to type angela but maybe angel will work for both? :-)
I'll answer to any variation...
lol
Angela!!! So jealous!!! Come pick me up!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEE! (Get your motor running....)
Great way to enjoy a sunny day Angela.
I am hoping to get all my grading finished today, then I can goof off for the weekend.
I have to be to work for noon so I'll leave early and ride, ride, ride
it's been the week from hell so I need it!
Uh oh! PB< PB< PB!!!!
Sue, you actually goof off? Lord have mercy! : P
I am goofing off right now!
lol, car!
PB to the 3rd power
and I am goofing off right now too but will do so to the max once the grades are done (I'm not teaching this summer)
You totally deserve some down time uusue!
I absolutely agree, car :-)
Car, no ta4s today, but there is some sa 5/10
and the cravings continue....
phantom: sanity (and isn't that always true!!!)
Nice! LOL!
It remains a phantom for me Sue.
uusue...are you on FB?
amen uusue!
I am, car
back with breakfast.... set it all in the pb
Yum! Nothing like Mom's breakfast.
If you would like, friend me and then we can support each other with our exercise and healthy eating. I always do so much better when I have to be accountable to myself AND someone else!
Thank you Mom! And Good morning!
Car, do you keep a food journal. That's a great way to be accountable.
ooh, a challenge! I can be very competitive :-)
good morning Car., you're welcome
I do it online with Calorie Count, but I have not been faithful about it. When I was, I lost the 12 lb.
there are some great smartphone apps out there too...
ok, I've sent you a request, car
Oh Lord, there really is an app for everything. Where is the app to find the winning lottery number?
I am not good with food journals, unfortunately - I start out ok but then quickly go into rebellion
haven't seen that one yet...however, my husband did find the fa** piano app...interesting. As is the cat piano.
This has been a battle for me my whole life. My friend was helping me at one point and had a gret plan. I gave her $5 every week. If I gained weight, I had to give her additional $1 per gained pound. I had to keep a food journal tracking calories, fat, and exercise. We set a weight goal and then when I hit my goal, she gave me back all of my money to go buy new clothes!!!!! It was a BLAST and I lost 35 lb!!!!
uusue, when I get on my laptop later I will go to FB and accept you!
oh, that sounds great, car!
Car, if support is helpful to you, why not Weight Watchers?
ok, good, I couldn't add a personal message but I'm Suzanne Willis
We had so much fun and then got to go on a shopping spree!!!!
I don't have the money for WW right now. I know what to do, it is a matter of doing it consistently and not letting life get in my way.
hehe...cat is lying next to me on the couch and dreaming...all sorts of twitches and noises :)
ooooooohhhhhhhh!
I've tried WW but the group format just didn't work for me
I forgot that Weight Watchers involves money. Shame people can't start up their own free support groups.
That's what we are going to do!!!!
Anyone is welcome to join!
I'm sort of using sparkpeople.com, which is free, but fell off this week (as well as earlier in the semester, sigh)
the group format doesn't work for me either...i just used the atkins website
uusue, you have been doing well with your walking though. That is something to be very positive about!
Do you do low carb, Angela?
well, I've kind of fallen off with that over the past few days too, during finals week :-(
I do. More carbs now that it's been over a year, but still very low compared to everyone around me.
but you are inspiring me to walk to work today!
But its only been a couple of days uusue....you can get right back on track!
That's a cool site Sue. Never seen it before.
Good for you Angela! Carbs are my biggest weakness. When I am tired (which is often) I just live on them.
(Will also check that out on my laptop in a bit!)
I'm at 20 carbs now. My dr. suggested it because of my diabetes
Sugar was like crack for me...now I don't crave it at all. Very strange.
I can, car!
My craving for sugar went down when I did Atkins. But I damn near fainted going down the bread aisle in the store from the aroma of the bread I was not eating.
I started running and doing Atkins on March 1st last year. I've lost close to 60 lbs. and am loving it. Not skinny, but I don't want to be. About 160 lbs and feel great.
Go, uusue, Go!
What has worked for me in the past is low fat - I don't have a sweet tooth but I sure do have a cheese tooth!
Wow!!! Congratulations Angela!!!!
lol moll
Bread and cheese...the French in me could live on bread and cheese...and wine of course!
I have heavy cream lattes, bacon in the morning, steak... I LOVE this "diet" :)
good for you, angela!!! I used to run, a lot, but have since had both my knees replaced, and was told not to run any more
That's great.Angela! My husband has lost 30 pounds on MY diet.
thanks Car :)
Hi and help please. Tr 6 last one please
Wow ANgela well done
Good morning Herin!
A cheese tooth. I love it. And I can relate.
thanks herin!
hi, herin! been too busy chatting to actually find any words :-)
Sue you could always run on a cross trainer or use a hand bike
hello all :)
Never mind found it. Hi Mr PRes
hiya Mr. P! :)
I actually like doing weights, so I've been doing that off and on. I also have a Wii but I think it has died of terminal disuse
good morning mrp!
hi, mrp!
I'm finding that my body is resistant to weight loss. I've been doing Atkins since April and I have only lost three pounds.
hi infern :) **hugs**
My mom just found out that she can no longer drive. I will be driving her to the gym 3 x a week now, so plan to drop her off and then continue on to the Y to do my workout and then pick her up on the way back.
well, it's only May, Bea! 1/2 to 1 pound a week is not a bad rate to lose!
good plan, car!
i've told people around me that it worked for me but it definitely is not for everyone. it's tough to stick to - especially the first few months.
sounds like a plan car!
although since my partner has celiac disease, maybe atkins would be something to try....
But I'm not losing 1/2 pond a week.
I am watching 60min Make over. I swear the designers need a course in viewing Sh#tmykidsruined
bea, getting rid of body fat is sooooo hard.... eat one meal a day and exercise to start with... have vegetable juice and try calming activities.
O please you need to graze. Small meals not big ones
Now, I heard that is not the way to go. Your body will go into starvation mode and shut down. You actually need more fuel to maintain your blood sugar and then exercise.
april 1 was about 6 weeks ago, bea, if you've lost 3 pounds that's about 1/2 pound a week, no?
nooooooooo, NOT one meal a day. Small and often, count the calories. And exercise, egt your heart rate UP and KEEP it up for at least 20 minutes
One meal a day is not the way to go.
When I was on focus I ate 1400 calories a day, made sure I was taking vitamins, drank water constantly and kept track of all my exercise. Even a 10 minute walk is better than no walk...and vacuuming and cleaning count too!
I actually lost about 70 pounds over a few years, and kept it off for several years (gradually 50 of them have come back, darn it all) but one thing I learned is that both diet and exercise are important but different things work for different people and you just have to find what works for you.
once you reduce your carb intake the body will burn fat for fuel. I've never counted calories.
I'm a fitness instructor LOLs, yes car - cutting out meals makes the body lower its metabolism so it doesnt waste reserves - and you need to increase metabolism
Over the last six years, I have tried every little trick in the book and then some with weight loss. Eating small meals, only eating three meals, weight watchers, local hospital diet...
granadan!!!!! Join our FB support group!!!!!!
is there one?
also what works when you are 30 doesn't necessarily work when you are 60, sigh
BzznBea...what are you doing to burn calories?
I think the exercise portion is so important to any change in lifestyle.
uusue and I just started it this morning!
car and I are going to start one, granadan
true uusue!
Amen Sue. Especially for post menopausal women.
I think if changing your food is not the answer, then it must be the need to boost your calories burned.
treat your body like an engine - you need to make it use more petrol than you are poutting in - lean muscle burns energy all the time, even when not working, so add a little weights into your exercises
Granadan is that your pup?
its harder if there's a LOT of weight to shift, but even a bean can in each hand while watching telly and tricep pushes will help - yes, he's called Isaac :)
I am so pissed Suzanne Somers' new program is called "Sexy Forever". It is designed to focus on women over 40, but what a stupid name! How about Feeling Great Forever?
As far as exercise, I take a spin class three to five times a week, a toning/weight lifting class two times a week, yoga two to three times a week and I've been walking on the days I don't spin.
well, sexy is ok too :-)
I agree about Somer's plan Car.
I actually loved her first program and still use a lot of her recipes!
ONe of my friends rescued a hairess dachie. He was completely bald. He was a cross with a crested
hey, car, ok if I go ahead and create a group?
WOW BzznBea! You got that segment covered then!
ABSOLUTELY uusue!
i just wish the process worked faster. it is so frustrating to count every calorie + sweat your face off, just to burn a few ounces of weight. it is very unmotivating...
Oh my goodness! What a cute dog!
We didn't gain it all in one day, so why should it all come off in one day?
And then Eva, there are those evil people (mostly males) who eat what they want, when they want and never gain weight.
I agree, eva - I want to eat right, exercise, and lose 5 pounds by TOMORROW!
car -- because i really WANT to lose it. i didnt WANT to gain it. doesnt WANTING burn calories??
I just have the eat what I want diet
honestly only live once
LOL! I am totally with you Eva! I just have to be practical!
Thank you all for talking about this today! I am feeling VERY motivated now!
now the trick to that eating what they want lies in lean muscle mass - it's burning those calories for them all the time. You go take lectures from these superfit guys here, and honestly, if I ate in a day what they snack on during talks... LOLs Eva, wish wanting did!
We've got your back Car.
That was my attitude too herin, until I developed diabetes.
neh
Herin, if I could do that and still feel healthy and keep up with my kids, that would be OK with me. It just doesn't work for me. I am very envious of those people that have that liberty.
ive been toying with the idea of joining weight watchers. i know several people who have had a lot of success with it. i just wish it werent all so much work. *le sigh*
Thank you!
I just never liked the idea of going into a group of people and talking about my fat. not appealing.
Eva, do it while you are young, because once you get onlder it is twice as hard.
I just love my lumps.
Just like little things add up when you eat and gain weight, they add up the other way too. Take a break every ten minutes you are on the computer and do some stretching or walk around the house. Park further away from the store. Take the steps not the escalator. Those things all add up.
I, too, am motivated.
I totally have been doing the parking lot thing (except when the kids are with me for safety reasons)! It makes me feel better!
car, as soon as you add me as a friend on FB I'll create the group. then I will let you all know and put the link in my profile.
< --- going to grab fruit and yogurt instead of waffles or muffin....
Morning folks
morning Mr Bob
bea, i know. when i was a teenager, i really did eat anything i wanted, and as much as i wanted. but i was also an active dancer + never had to think about it. these days, i actually eat less healthy than i did then, and i am almost completely sedentary in my lifestyle. i know i need to be active + get moving, but it is so much harder on my body now than it was then. its hard to know that i used to be able to dance for hours on end with little trouble, and nowadays, i cant even climb a flight of stairs without being winded or stand up for more then 15 minutes without sore feet. *pouts*
I hear you Angela, Im the same, but people fall into styles of exercise - some are joiners and they'll LOVE the spinning, ETM and that sort of class, and they all motivate each other - Im one of those little wallflowers who hits the weights on my own, but I get the fun of doing boot camps locally in the mornings. Little things will add up, but to seriously SHIFT that weight, buy a heart rate monitor, get your heart rate UP - (subtract your age from 220 then reduce by 10%) and keep it up for 20 minutes by power walking, dancing with the hoover, anything - check with a GP if any issues
Morning Mr. Bob.
hi, mr bob!
I tried it on this computer uusue...see if it went through.
Arghhh that should say reduce by 20%
(my computer is making revving airplane noises now!)
Hello Mr. Bob!
right I must be off
Dancing with the Hoover : D Mrs. Doubtfire.
good night ((Herin)) pleasant dreams
nite herin **hugs**
Car, have you cleaned your hard drive fans lately?
niters
i have heard of the "high" people get from working out, but that has never been me. i used to work out with a trainer... while i mentally felt good about what i was doing, it never got any easier physically. i just came out feeling hot, sweaty + dross. and i never saw any of the results i wanted to see.
Replaced the fan!
Bye herin!
The only time I ever got an endorphin high from exercise was when I walked 8 miles in a walk-a-thon.
I agree - to each his own. Some people love the group thing, some don't. some people love exercise...those people are crazy :)
bye herin!

ANYTHING with Johnny Depp is captivating ;) lol
hi/bye lickety

I haven't seen that one yet.
Unfortunately, EvaN, not enough calories are burnt to make up for the amount of food I eat playing late at night while trying to stay awake.
I am with you mymuse!
I actually kind of know the answer to that one Eva....when I am doing my transcription work, 60 minutes of typing burns approximately 153 calories!
bye lickety
banging your head on your desk burns 95 calories an hour....:)

May I please have help with the right sided O? I only have the ot 5/12.
and now for crossy,s tid-bit of the day....
Duh! NM! Just found the oh babblets.
The purpose of gasoline rationing during the Second World War was not to conserve gas, but to conserve TIRES. The primary source for natural rubber at the time was Southeast Asia, much of which was under Japanese control.
Crossy! I actually have heard this tidbit before! Cool!
really, crossy?
indeed nef
I can't retain babblets. They don't compute in my brain.
oh 4 sounds like a midwest state, but with a different vowel at the end; then the plural
I have an appointment this morning, so I am off. I hope you all have a great day and I will see you later!
bye, car!

Hi Aloy
NOW I can chat and play! :-)
Hi Aloy
there's a gh and go4/7
there is also an in word that comes before "red light"
thanks Molly
And the last one for that i is not out + what you pay for a bus ride or a taxi ride
got my chopped veggies + my dip made form fat-free sour cream here. now i just need to train myself to just use a little bit. ;)
ty Molly
ty Molly!
sounds yummy Eva!
No T-phobia for me Aloy. It's my lucky day. My youngest was born on a Friday the 13th. : D
yay, Molly.. I like it too!
muse, its not the same as my beloved blue cheese dressing or my real full-fat ranch, but its helping me get more veggies and snack less on crap, so its a good step for me!
ive got carrots, celery, broccoli + cauliflower
I just have to stay away from all the snacks my husband keeps buying and get some veggies stocked in the fridge :)
and I love veggies!
i WISH my hubby wouldnt buy junk. it is easy for me not to buy it. but once its in the house, i WANT it.
So true, Eva. Mine likes to stash peanutbutter cups in the freezer.
I always have celery and carrots in the frig ready to snack on. I never have a dip, though. A dip would probably make them more attractive...
mine keeps muffins, chips, cookies, all kinds of stuff as "snacks"
Peanut butter makes a good veggie dip - for celery and carrots anyway.
my problem is that i cant just snack. i want it ALL.
yes! I want to kick his butt each time he does, but now I'm turning it into a "You will not bring me down this time" mentality. He always buys chips, cookies, nuts and barely eats them.
Tell them to keep those junk snacks at work!
my hubby is also more active than i am, so he can afford to snack here + there.
WHY do men do that???
and of course the longer I see them sitting the harder to resist.
Mine wants to show me he can resist any time he wants.
The spicy hummus dips are good with fresh vegetables too.
MMM. Hummus!
Unconcious desire to keep us in the kitchen and away from other men LOL
hummus is really easy to make in a blender - fun too as you can add more or less garlic, etc.. experiment!
have a great day everyone - off to work! :)
Bye Angela, you too!
bye, Angela hagd too
lol, Molly... just got your "red light" clue.. I kept thinking of a traffic red light.. ty
still thinking of "red light" , not a traffic sign, red light district?
Bye Angela. And I'd better get moving too. I've got a busy (non-working) day ahead which includes too many things and not enough time again. HAGD everyone; and Happy Babbling!
hi Annie.. no, something that helps you see in the dark
Annie, think of the electromagnetic spectrum
And Hi

Helloo kids.
hi Scrabbler!
Hi Scrabbs :)
Hi Scrabs
I was reviewing flights to and from Raleigh-Durham. I am thinking about visiting Little One over Memorial Day weekend.
L. O. is in my thoughts..
I can't stand not being there with her and her family.
The ultimate hell = having a critically ill kid that could (or does) die.
the 2nd fr5 plz
Aw Scrabs. How very sad.
That is so sad
fr + a donkey
I can not imagine putting on of my baies in the ground.
Scrabbs, it must be so difficult on you to go through, (( )) >>> your way
Little One is stable today and sl better th4 yesterday. One day at a time.
Please excuse me but I am out of the loop...who is Little One?
Isla (eye-la)--I have mentioned her before. Down syndrome, congenital heart disease, was to have heart surgery 4/27 but while vacationing in Myrtle Beach w family before Easter she medically crashed, was intubated and flown by copter to Duke Children's Hospital. Started Apr 18.
family or patient, scrabs?
our son starts working at Duke Hosp in June, small world
Patient and duaghter of friends who I met via late friend Mary.
It's one of the BEST medical centers in the world, Aloy. What an opportunity for him.
thoughts and prayers with you, friends, daughter, and family.
he is very happy, and feels quite fortunate
Scrabbs, Yes I remeber Isla (didnt remember the name Little One) so very sad. Bobby is lucky in that he escaped heart disease.
I often call my young infant patients by the generic term "Little One" so I have used that term on Facebook so I can keep the family anonymous.
If your kids are not healthy then life is very distressful.
Yes, Scrabbs
amen to that
Aloy, is he living there now?
yes, they moved to Cary
I have a very good friend in Holly Springs--pediatric nurse practitioner at a large pediatric practice--Jeffers, Mann and Artman. Does your son have kids?
Holly Springs is just south of Cary.
so he will have a commute - no parking available, YES.. our granddaughter, will copy that name down
ty
crossy hears the sound of scampering bunny rabbits..
Hi Crossy
Aloy, everyone who lives in the triangle area has a commute.
howdy scrabbs;)
matter of fact, gdaughter was ill with high fever right after they moved.. no doc, so they went to ER.. $124

Am I dumb? I am not seeing it
for what it's worth, to save u all time and hassle, there's no such thing as realianize, altho u should try telling that to the refugees oz keeps realianizing into the pacific ocean

Hm....Frasier Crane, MD!!
ding ding ding!
yay,eva!
Go Ruru go!
How are you , Hurshy?
oh, ok.
hi Hursh
hi all
hi, hurshy!
mmmm bananas and strawberries in milk with a bit of brown sugar and a plain toasted bagel with butter and 3 fruit marmalade and a glass of V8 juice:)
Just OK? Still in New Haven?
yes, still in new haven. i've been doing reasonably well lately, seem to have finally found an antidepressant that may work for me. but yesterday i had a bad day and i haven't bounced back yet.
oh, finding the right antidepressant is really tough, and waiting to see if it really works is even tougher!!! hugs to you, hurshy!!!
Every time I eat breakfast, I think of you, crossy. Eggs and more eggs...
no eggs today
hursh, there are those days...
though i will never give up eggs..you will have to pry the carton from my cold dead hands
Ditto what Sue said. Also, Hurshy: exercise! Omega-3 fatty acids! Vitamin D3! (www.vitamindcouncil.org)
I had scrambled eggs with spinach and cheddar cheese and skipped toast with butter.
Isn't sunshine supposed to help with depression too?
mmmm
I'm beginning to wonder if my antidepressant is what is causing me to hang on to my weight.
Oh Bea, they can. Check with your doctor.
i find facing death a few times every ten years helps as well.i swear if the rapture was tomorrow,i would finish the chapter of my book first, then go see what is going on lol
you associate crossy with eggs? i suppose thats not SO far off, but crossy = bacon in my book. :)
I know someone who was rail thin all his life and put on 25 pounds after he started taking an anti-depressant
lol eva, though i do adore bacon,i have cut back my consumption 50% and am buying the 50% less salt variety
I have to go back in July to make sure my diabets meds are doing what they are supposed to do, and will talk to her about it then.
I gained a LOT of weight on antidepressants :-(
Good morning all....Think of crossy everytime I eat bacon and Scrabbs vitamin D3 for one year and have lost about 18 pounds
scrabby,is it true that a ct or a mri gives you about the same zap as 400 x-rays?
howdy seaspray
Crossy, I have started eating bacon almost daily so I am taking up the slack for you. I have to find it without sugar though...
hi SeaSpray
oh, i know youve cut down on bacon. but it is still the association i have with you. :)
Being depressed can cause wt gain. Sunshine helps because our skin produces more vit D when exposed to sun.
not an mri, crossy, no radiation involved with those, but a ct scan can involve a lot of radiation
Hi Ss
mmm bacon...crossy drinks his v8 juice....
i thought it was one or the other..hell i should almost glow in the dark by now hehe
MRI = no radiation--is based on magnetic pull; CT = massive radiation
just had yet another ct scan for my month end cancer test;9
:(
I hope all is well with you Crossy
Risk vs benefit---> you must be monitored. Ask if an MRI can be done instead.
Negative result, Crossy?
eat the grey paste, gonna inject this for resolutin,it may burn...ugh
my doc will tell me at the appt
here's a table of radiation dose for various xray and ct scans: http://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/safety /index.cfm?pg=sfty_xray
lol,no way i am looking at that sye!!
sue
I see superman's girlfriend is in the grid
i have seen the inside of so many spinning drums,i feel like the maytag repair man
these are approximate, actual dose will depend on the exact procedure and on the patient (usually they adjust the intensity of the beam for your size, to make sure it penetrates but isn't more than you need)
and who is the chic they used to record "breahe in,breathe out,now hold it"?? we need a sexier voice
scrabbler, i already do exercise and take vitamin D and all that stuff.
crossy, if the voice is TOO sexy, you wont be focusing on your breathing. ;)
lots of exercise hurshy
good long walkabout daily
lol eva,if she is doing it correctly ill be listening to her breathing not mine;)
Good, Hurshy. Are you on 1 med or 2?
Got my 2nd cuppa Joe. I'm ready to go. Wasn't yesterday (5/12) supposed to be Judgement Day? *checks the weather report for swarms of locusts*
oh! tea is ready! who wants a cuppa?
Swarms of locusts in NC...
5/21, Judi--get ready!
hurshy, there aren't any simple answers to depression; please don't make yourself feel worse by thinking there's something you're doing wrong. (There are lots of things that can help, of course...)
swarms of lovebugs and lubber grasshoppers in Fla
People thought they were aliens.
well i'm on one antidepressant. but i'm also on antianxiety which helps me sleep. and i'm temporarily on cortisol.
anyway breakfast is done and i am off to work. walking! yay me! bbl!!
Pffth. Figures it falls on a Saturday.
Tis love bug season
bye sue, hagd!
yaaa! just noticed it is friday the 13th!!
bye sue!
gonna get my black kitty to cross my path all morning:)
Oh thanks Crossy...didn't realize it was the 13th and a doc apptmt later today to boot
don't forget to walk under the ladder
not to worry seaspray,i am always ready for anything at those appts"mr melbourne?,i am sorry you have borneo jungle fungus"..would not surprise me
My kitten is partially black. Do I get any superstition points for that?
2 points,if you salt his tail you get 5
will spill some salt and toss it over my shoulder
Sigh. Will have to wait until I get home tonight.
salt his tail? is that to ward off bad luck?
salting a cats tail or a dogs is supposed to make it fall off;0
Why on cortisol?
Oh no! I won't be salting tails then...lol
because my cortisol level was low and they thought i might have fatigued my cortisol system through long term stress.
here is a golden oldie to make everyone smile:)..and the 2 in the vid with him are christopher reeves and robin williams....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-diB65 scQU
a groaner from the 80,s lol
Is it helping, Hurshy?
i don't know. the effexor seemed to be helping before i started the cortisol, i haven't noticed anything new since then. but it's only for a few months.
BBS--phone call
Got all the vowels grey...Need to get off my duff and get ready for spin class...bbl*poof*
trip into the past, crossy.. ty
bye, BzznBea
my mrs suffered from depression for a bit,it seemed that her degenerative eye disease was going to make her totally blind a few years ago..i took that summer off and showed her everything in life i could just in case it was her last chance.i drover her into the hills and showed her deer, funny wild turkeys in the fields, the speckled trout jumping for bugs in the stream making rainbows with the water drops in the sunshine, rabbits munching on clover at the roadside at dawn, deer standing in a clearing at dusk.i walked her through the forests on the mountain top all quiet and green and you can almost hear the tree speaking to each other..was a good summer then they told use they can hold her vision at 20/400. we love and endure...sorry for the ramble,my memories hit me like acid flashbacks sometimes....
cough..tea..brb
thanks for sharing crossy. that was very special
indeed, ditto what doxy said
*punches crossy in arm* Romance boy.
you are amazing crossy...the Mrs. is very fortunate...bbl
i am nothing..she is strong.her strength give me strength,we compliment each other
that's the way it should be. Complimenting each other.
FW here, so I'd best be off to do what needs to be done - thanks for the chat - see you next time!
yaa for aloy!
hello everybody. half this AM and now a few minutes
((ruby))
good morning everyone, was just reading back, Crossy, what a dear you are - sharing with your dear wife all the pleasures nature provides - memories you will both enjoy through whatever may come - a truly loving hubby!
awww shucks....
wow, crossy! you are terrif, Mrs. Elegant is very lucky indeed!
she was the one to go blind, not me.i just shared life with her while i could.she is the terrific one
but now like i say we have it holding at 20/400 and are thankful
does she have macular degeneration?
but, if it should come to blindness, Mrs. Crossy will enjoy seeing things through your descriptions - you have a wonderful gift of expressing beauty
it is a large hame for it,but it is swelling behind the eyes that flattens and distorts then lenses and put deposits on the backs of the 2 artificial lenses we had put in
she gets these deposits lasered off once every 6 months
ty flosey:)
it is amazing what they are doing these days
it is indeed
hard to get a good pic of her now, those glass lenses do funny things with a camera flash
so i do nice outside pics with natural light
on the question of Fri the 13th, would a black dog do?
mm black dogs crossing your path? does not have the same ring to it..maybe if the dog crosses your path while you are under a ladder
see you after dinner

dance like no one is watching eva!
this song always gets me moving + makes me wanna sing... been stuck in my head all day and i cant get it out!
then sing like no one's listening
cant really do that in the office, flosey. ;)
but man, this song is the ultimate love-lost-watch-your-back song. and this gal has a VOICE.
lol, guess not, just let it run through your mind and make you smile!
get up on that desk, crank up the song and shake that botay!
hi again, all! have arrived at work - on foot - and am grading the last set of final exams.
"There's a fire starting in my heart, Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark, Finally, I can see you crystal clear, Go ahead and sell me out and a I'll lay your shit bare."
wow!
"See how I'll leave with every piece of you, Don't underestimate the things that I will do, There's a fire starting in my heart, Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark."
great, Eva, I've never heard this song
for those that want the vid....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3J cQqw
really flosey? you must listen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =rYEDA3JcQqw
I love that song too, Eva. But that girl sounds almost just like K.T. Tunstall.
not my type of music but she does have a lovely voice
i dont know how she can just sit in that chair in the video. singing that song makes me wanna get up and point a finger in the face of every ex i ever had! and then dance. :)
not my type of music either:/..must be the message and not the medium...
hmmmm, I can hardly remember exes !! We celebrate 50 years together this summer
50 years! wow! horray for flosey and hubby
thanks crossy - and still very much in love
you do have to learn to roll with a few punches (not literally)
indeed,no punches, but the odd spanking lol
lol
we celebrate our 18th this year
good for you crossy & Mrs.
sounds so puny next to 50 years lol
43 years here in August
wtg wv

40 years next month
ty wv
seems i am the puppy of the group;0
wonderful bichon
hey, crossy, with your attitude and devotion, you'll make it
I'm no spring chicken
nor am I, bichon but I still think young
and, bichon, you'll be younger than I when you celebrate your 50th
benefits of wedding young..i was 29,the wife 22 when we tied the knot
*cradle robber*..lol
I too was 29 crossy
hehe was dating her at 19
hubby 25
I was 25 when I wed. Seems like yesterday
31 here...a late bloomer
just looked at chat.... 51 years for us, next Saturday !!
she had this hair, was down past her waist and burnished umber in the light.all i wanted to do was play with it and imagine it spread out across satin pillowcases;)) crossy is bad
Wow! congrats Diane
hubby had to take a break from U - earn some money to finish remaining 4 years (4th year was to take 5th year ED. which they had to have in BC to teach)
wtg Diane
congrats Diane
little did i know it takes half a bottle of shampoo and conditioner to wash that hair and 5 hours to dry..;(
those first years i should of invested in johnson and johnson
thanks.... it's been a nice 51 years ! we started dating at 17 & 19... got married 3 years later. ( 4 kids, 10 grandkids and a great-grand due the end of this month! )
yaa for diane and 51 years!!
lovely, diane
I can't even look ahead to great grandchildren. Can't imagine my little ones growing up and getting married.
congrats to all the long-timers! Marriage is not something at which I have been successful, unfortunately, although I have high hopes for when my partner and I finally tie the knot (after originally getting engaged 43 years ago!)
Just came across the word for cow dung -- proceeding through the Scrabbl;e dictionary. What have we done to deserve this hideous grid?
I love that story :-) Marriage is a journey that has to be worked upon constantly... but a rewarding, lifelong "career" ;-)
we have 4 kids - 2 grandsons, son's 13 year old (didn't expect any there, he was a Wonderful surprise) second one, my daughter's will be 2 in July, also a late blessing and will be an only. Son and family (from Toronto) will be coming out in July so cousing will meet for first time
268 words and I don't even have 100. What gives?
**cousins (not cousing)
I don't plan on finishing this grid, have decided it's more fun to chat and enjoy getting what I can
and crossy's story about showing mrs crossy all the beautiful things before her vision went away brought tears to my eyes - you are both very lucky to have each other!
So Sue, your guy right now was your original sweetheart many years ago?
he was, but then we went away to different colleges and lost touch with each other
have been back together for about 3 years now and it is wonderful :-)
Think I'll eat. Maybe the words will appear after that
Sue, my brother's first wife died, they had a great life together, then he was reunited with his High School sweetie who had also lost her hubby, they married and had a few wonderful years together
That's so sweet, Sue. I'm glad you found each other again.
me too, molly :-)
ok, now I really am back to grading (just a reminder about the babble weight loss support group, if you are interested see the info in my profile. it is very informal, just a way for us to support each other!)
tyvm sue.her vision is holding at 20/400 and we are greatful
ok, 180 words, must get ready to face the day
tc flosey
good morning all - back to tackle this monster once more
howdy cybernan

kazzer, were you thinking of coming to Salisbury for lunch on June 7th -- or do you live too far away?
7th of June is what day? - tuesday?
yes -- market day in Salisbury
i have my nieces funeral around that time but still waiting for confirmation so i will let you know
so sorry about your niece.
i will also change my icon so you can see what i look like (hee hee)
i am really bad with missing people when I go to meet them
yes -- was thinking that! Also -- please e-mail me so that I have your address: cybernan@gmail.com
re 8/40?
now that you have reminded me, I will make a note to myself to do that today!
I will do that shortly - on the wrong machine for sensible email. I have to fiddle about on this one to get it to send properly

*grrr* now im all grumble-pants because, since Blogger crashed yesterday, it lost my blog post. i dont FEEL like recreating it...
bummer, eva!
Grumble pants???? : D
offers eva a pretty yellow spring wildflower to stop the grumblies...
go 6: tough to clue but here goes: go + outfit James Bond worked for + indefinite article
at least i do have pretty, shiny silver fingernails to keep me happy. this polish looks like tinfoil!
poop - i thought bond was MI5. :-(
so did I, HelenaB
could refer to any country's undercover police
CIA? NSA?
thanks nan - got it - think more generically
i think google just helped me
rh6....rh + This Is Sp**** Tap
got it!
crossy feeds yellow wild flower to his kitty and dives into the grid..sploosh:(
wow! - I'm amazed you got it from that!
haha, google helped with the "not MI5" part
I didn't : (
ty molly, but have no idea what SP Tap is
A Sp**** Tap is a medical procedure
the agency bond worked for is also the initials for an infamous german police force, if that helps
It's also the name of a band in a movie
it's a musical group and also a medical procedure, nan
ty helena
ty molly
closest i can think og is KGB, but thats russian...heh
anywho, i think i just noodled it...
(Said in my best British accent) If we need that extra push, over the cliff, what do we do? We take it up to 11."
crank it to eleven!
That movie has almost as much of a cult following as Rocky Horror Picture Show.
WWII nazi police
yeah, i tried to help with that
the last an 4 plz
and a group of the same name protects the USA president
crank that amp to 11 and pull the knobs off:) and with that i must head to work.tc all and happy babbling..poink!
an + **y it ain't so!
an + continent below us
ty ty !
I am so damn confused. I'm positive that MI6 is not in any of these words. But I think I know the agency that was being referred to.
ooh, my friend just shared with me a recipe for Carrot, Apple + Coconut Mini Muffins i cant wait to try these out!
molly are u looking for the go 6?
Google says it's actually MI7, but I wouldn't know,I'm in chicago!
eva - those sound good! I LOVE coconut
SPECIAL SERVICES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
molly -- your thinking is too specific!
No Ivesy, I have it. I just wasn't getting the clue. Thanks.
well that settles that then lol
ok.
mr loser ..nice lol
a little frustrated are you, mrloser?
Sorry Nan, I'll try to think in a more scatter brained way. : P
i am OK now thanks.
actually, I was thinking of secret service
thats what i was referring to... what mr loser did.
im also planning on making some cookies this weekend. Coconut Rhubarb Cookies and some Chocolate Chip for a coworker whose bday is on tuesday. i have white chocolate chips at home, so i might just use those...maybe throw in a touch of lime juice and/or lime zest too...
me too cyber
hahaha, that poor clue
actually I think it's the agency the US began in WWII
oh, I love rhubarb!
There is a whole world of difference between MI6, The CIA and Special Services. Enough said.
well -- now I need a break -- off to get some tea!
too bad the sun isn't over the yard arm yet!
Kateq, that was the OSS
helena -- i found the recipe one year around christmastime, but of course you cant get rhubarb then. so i filed it away + made it in the summertime, and they are so good! id love to get a whole bunch of rhubarb so i can make a large batch of dough + freeze it so i can make them year-round. :)
Eva, my great aunt used to tell a story about making rhubarb pie and forgetting to put the sugar in. Ew.
oh dear. i cant imagine that would be very good!
I've just started freezing dough - so obvious but I never thought of it
oh, BTW, Molly, im not sure if this news has spread outside the neighborhood at all, but King Farm is going to start having a farmers market this year! wednesday and saturdays, starting 5/25
how many words today pls
helene, i havent ever actually frozen any, myself, since most of the things i make are available whenever, but i have read that this dough freezes well, so its worth a try!
268 today, steve
thanks ev
Oh cool Eva. I think there is one at Kentlands too. I'm close enough that I can just hightail it up to Butlers Orchard when I want fresh stuff.
the dough i've frozen has worked
granted, it was just oatmeal choc chip
anyone have the first al5/10
we havent hit butlers orchard yet, but im planning on it! i love picking my own produce...
false name helena
ty!
Watch your back if you pick strawberries. The last time I picked them...was the last time I'm picking them.
why?
The strain of all the bending to pick them. That kind of watch your back.
ahh. i know it is strawberry season right now. im thinking of holding out for blueberries or other berries...
they do cherries in late june. that might be nice...
i think late summer + fall will be my favorite times: raspberries, blackberries, apples + pumpkins!
It's cool up there in the fall. They have hayrides.
maybe i will hijack my niece + nephews for the day...heh
Word of warning....keep close watch on your car keys while on a hayride. A needle in a haystack is hard, car keys in a bed of hay is just a bit less hard. I speak from experience.
The Fall Festival is great for kids. They have face painting and a hay bale jumping area. They also have some pretty good food for sale.
hah, oh dear. keys into the purse, then.
stuck on the second sa 6/18 - any clues?
nm -- found it
so within 10 miles of me there are severe thunderstorm warnings and enough rain to prompt flash flood warnings. Here it is not raining at all.
s's are done -- yay!!!
good that it's not near you uusue -- but if you suddenly disappear we will know why!!
just seems funny that it's so close but the only way I know is through the online radar
te 5/12?
babblet, nan, te+ double vowel + consonant
ty uusue -- always seem to forget that one
thx to you too, nan, didn't see it until you asked :-)
<----- Hates double vowel words
I agree, molly, particularly when the vowel isn't e or o
5
but i do love naan bread. ;)
go nan!
Nan! Nan! Nan!
Hooray! One of my students just got 100% on the final!
Yay student!!
exciting sue! they really do get it!
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help :)
!!!!!!!! Nan !!!!!!!!!!
congrats!
yay, nan!
help w de 5/12?
de 5: take the contents out of the bicycle tire
i have one so far, the head of a college
I have issues with that de5. It just doesn't seem grammatically correct.
what do you teach uusue?
physics, nan
wow -- 100% -- great student and obviously, great teacher :)
I take all the credit :-) (and none of the blame for the students who get 15%)
i loved my physics class and teacher. he made all the difference!
searcher - then make the head of a college plural
of course not -- they are just not applying themselves. Mind you with physics, I would be one of them!
a lot of the really bad ones just never show up, or spend the class listening to their ipods and playing games on their laptops
agreed molly -- clean out the fireplace isn't any better!
thanks, nan
ray - fireworks for me - that was a tricky one -time to watch some tv and a quick munch before the gym
ban i-pods and laptops from the classrooms!
yay, kazz!
congrats, kazzer -- off to change my icon now.
thnks - any clues?
ooh - i will do that as well - if i can find one that wont scare evryone off
I want to invent some sort of jamming ray that schools can use that renders such devices useless.
i've considered it, nan, but I'm not interested in being the police; as long as they are quiet and not disturbing others I leave them alone. they are adults, after all
uh-oh, tornado sirens are going off
And for cell phones in movie theaters and churches.
Um, Sue. Get somewhere safe, like now.
bye and good luck sue - head for cover
bye sue -- good luck
icon changed
Nan!! It's your smiling face! : D
I don't know what this old planet is coming to with all the earthquakes, tornadoes and floods.
*and I saw in the news last night that our favourite volcano has erupted again.
anyone want more clues before I go off to get my bedding plants (yes!!!! it is finally warm enough!)
Ooo, what are you getting?
trailing begonias, for the hanging baskets, petunias and marigolds because the deer leave them alone and probably a few geraniums.
*not planting a veggie garden this year, because the deer will have chomped it to the ground by the time we get back from Europe.
Sounds pretty Nan. I have petunias and marigolds too. And the healthiest begonia you've ever seen that still hasn't blossomed. But it's about to.
bye everyone -- see you at the flip :)
right now I have lilacs, iris, hellisboris(sp?)and tulips
the rhodies and snowball bush are about to bloom. Won't have many roses this year -- all but two bushes were winter killed.
Hello again! Just popping in for a few!
as 5/10?
I am sorry Helena, but I do not have it yet.
no worries - thanks!
Got it! Do you have the AS 6/18? Drop the last letter
ty!
OK...off to meet the bus! Have a good day!
bye!
can someone help w the first di 4/5? I'm losing it
it'll help you lose something...
What you go on to lose weight
ok, these tornado sirens are going on forever.
Sue, I assume you are Babbling from the root cellar.
no, my office, but the hall outside it is a pretty good shelter and it's about 4 feet away.
arg! i SWEAR i entered that!
haha
thanks!
sirens just stopped (I have been keeping a very close eye on the radar, all the action is about 10 miles south of us)
back for another few, hopefully
back for another few, hopefully
hello again
hello again hmmm, my messages are not leaving this box!
I see you, flosey :-)
well, that was strange!
was like the hiccup
lunchtime, bbs
my babble completely froze... no words were entering and refreshing didn't help. I just waited about 5 minutes and all seems okay now
Sometimes bad weather in parts of the country can wreak havoc on the server. I haven't had any problems on my end.
me too
ok, tornado warnings are over and now it is PURING rain.
POURING!!!
am I the only one who's used the word "snarf" before? Babble doesn't accept it
you are not, luv.
well I guess we all know Enable isn't always up with the times
Right - but it'll accept fa4/7, the flatulence word LOL
lol firefly-I even tried the fa 4/7 with the sometimes vowel
I did too!!
Finally, got an 8 - sa8 to be precise
pt gives you the 9, firefly
good for you firefly, I'm still working on that one
not following you sue...
past tense

just thought I should show you my icon clue
hi jillil, when do you leave?
hi, jilli!
just finished lunch, time to find a few more
I'm getting the 4:25 from Long Harbour, flosey -- have to be there half an hour ahead of time.
I'm lunched and packed and ready to go.
oh yes, hope your trip is pleasant and have a great time with family
trying to figure out what that is in your icon, jilli...
thanks -- it should be fun
did you click on it, sue?
I did, looks kind of like a large weasel
have the word (monkeyed it) very handsome animal but is that a parrot in his paw?
I hope it's a flower or something!
definitely looks like a bird although probably not a parrot
Yes, I'm afraid it does look like a bird -- well the ey4 is of the cat family apparently...
just judging by it's size, beautiful, whatever it is
ok, thx for the clue, got it! never heard of it, though
well, the word crops up here a lot so I thought you might like to know what it is. Google has more pictures -- some very cat-like.
yes, I saw them. Thanks for that!
yvw
golly, I'm falling asleep! think I'll go and read for a bit and perhaps fall off
may be back later
bye, flosey!
happy sailing, driving, jilli

Hi (((Lynxxx)
you're welcome
hi, mom!
Hi Uusue
it felt cold, just checked - only 8.3 C - brrr!
that is very cold Lynxxx
yes, after setting heat records three days in a row we are now at 57F (about 14C, some 30 degrees cooler than yesterday)
for us it is - possible hail as well too (as well as showers). No wonder Stew has not wanted to get out of bed
can't blame Stew for that
I wouldn't either, lynxxx! :-)
such a relief Sue!
We are in the same boat uusue. upper 80's this week and now 73 tomorrow and only in the low 60's next week
and of course, wet since that is the week my sweetie is on vacation to work outside
50s over the weekend here, low Sunday night 38! (about 3C)
you can keep that uusue. I'll send you some of our weather
but then it should warm up and be more or less normal next week I think
let's hope so
we got about an inch of rain this afternoon but a few miles from here they got about 5" and roads are flooded
also the geese are looking a bit nonplussed
oh no! We had thunderstorms earlier but it has passed now
You have geese?
many of them, lynxxx, there is a lagoon outside my office window
what sort (love geese)
finally, half way and I'm out of here. Phew, much to do and it is getting close to bed time. ((Hugs)) to all of you. See you tomorrow
bye Mom - sweet dreams

bye bye Lynxxx, have a great day

I have not either but they have hula hoop workouts on the web. I will look into them
th 6/27 plz
although the Wii does have a segment with a virtual hula hoop - I should set my Wii up again.
I also bought a watch that counts, step, heart rte and calories. and will start walking again for exercise. 10,000 steps a day is recommended.
th6 is a number
th 6/27 number word
Bea - te + double vowel + consonant, babblet

(used to have a pedometer many years ago...)
this was only $20 at TJ Maxx

If you have an i phone you can download a pedometer app.

A WORD OF WARNING TO ALL WHO USE FACEBOOK: there are some new scammers who are regestering "typo-domain names like "facebok.com and 'faacebok.com.what they are doing is hoping you make an error typing in the irl and you end up at a site with a facebook type of header saying it is their birthday and you have a chance to win i-pods,i-pads etx...BE AWARE OF THIS SCAN AND BE CAREFULL!

thx, crossy, will watch out for that!
I am losing my enthusiasm for this grid...
Still looking for a clue for the re 6.21...

west, it sounds like a type of gas.
and now for crossy,s tidbit of the day....
ahh ty peach
In 1897, Indiana tried to pass a bill stating that pi is equal to 3.2, as opposed to its truly infinite value, but it never became law due to intervention by a Purdue University professor
That you see at the pumps.
right, fuel alternative to gasoline
well, thank goodness for professors! lol!
our 2nd daughter bought a car that takes that because it was cheaper and now, guess what?
she still get a longer range per tank
Sue, you give great clues....don't be putting yourself down.

I am constantly amazed by people who can see anagrams in a word. It took me a bit to figure "scrambled triangular boat cloth".
when they have those questions on Jeopardy they are amazing
no you dont westford.you home and land would be expropriated as fast as the town could dream up a commercial project for the site..then in a year or 3,they would in turn sell it to big oil:/
oh darn crossy lol
so we don't own what's under us?
something tells me it would be messy
not if a superhighway or a fireroad or whatever is deemed essential by the powers that be
"eminent domain has gotten many landowners out of the way
I hear you
we lost a cottage that way once
I hope you were reimbursed
seems when it was built(30 years previous!!) it was 4 feet onto a potential right of way for a township fire road(the road was never built) but because it COULD be built we had to go
that's a shame
we did,but it was sad to see that nice cottage go because of what MIGHT happen
could you have fought it? probably cost an arm and a leg though
it would of cost too much.the township has deep pockets(filled with our money)
funny thing that
they have the best lawyers my money can buy
you said it lol
my dinner is here too so bye for now
i got market price...but that is not the point

Hi. Anyone here?
zeal
OOOPS! Sorry. Forgot which box I was in
hi all.
and that'll be my first word, thanks, nef :)
hi jes. (I did go to the PB; there are choclits here!)
heheh. good suggestion on asking the hospital for mattresses, thanks.
Did you get some?
yeah, 4 of them, and she says they have several more that'll be replaced soon. AND we got an NICU incubator!
and i'll go over next week to look at an anesthetic machine and a surgery table :D
YAY! I'm glad that you found some stuff you needed! :-)
indeed, i'm stoked!
Both you and the hospital benefit!
i can't believe the sort of stuff they have sitting around unwanted.
I got my sister some adjustable over bed tables for some of her surgery and exam rooms
yeah; and most vets don't even think or know about finding stuff there. I also bought an instrument sterilizer for her once for under $100 (I think). It was old; but also tested and passed the inspections
yeah, they gave us the incubator free! and it's NICE, and barely used. Will make an excellent oxygen tank (we'd been jury rigging as needed with plastic sheeting over normal kennels), and a good warm place to put c-section pups.
WOO-HOO!!! Score 1 for you! :-D
indeedy
The other thing is that it suddenly makes your clinic look much more professional, right?
it does
now you'll have to upgrade! ;-)
upgrade?
bigger, better more beautiful clinic
heh. i just bought the one i have! :P
LOL! Then you've got that part covered! Piece of cake to outfit it professionally then! :-)
heheh. looking like it. though it may be out of desperation... in the last week, the EKG machine went T-U, the washing machine stopped working, and the x-ray developer has been grinding to a slow death for ages now.
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
hi min :)
well, just check around for an EKG machine and the x-ray machine too. I can't help with the washer and dryer though
Hi Min!
buying a new developer from a different clinic that just bought a digital system.
the ekg machine is off to the manufacture for repair.
Very sad day at work today. 18 of my colleagues got pink slips today. 700+ teachers are losing their jobs.
and i've started a wish list for when i go visit the hospital; will see if an iv pump and some infant-sized blood pressure cuffs fall off the next truck with the mattress.... :)
jes, when we first got mareried we lived in student housing and the guy across the hall was in Vet. med school. We'd compare dog and human EKGs
ouch, min. that's not good.
(((Min))) How AWFUL! They are laying off or firing teachers?
No, not good at all! There is a 42 million dollar budget gap in the city. They are cutting ALL Pre-K programs
i'd assume that they'd be similar. some variation with size... but i've never really looked at humans. just know that cat ekg strips are short/stubby compared to dogs, and dogs and horses are surprisingly similar
Teachers who've been teaching almost ten years are losing their jobs. Major upset for the whole district!
dogs heart rates are twice as fast as humans, but everything else is similar (including a lot of the abnormalities)
Min, where are you? In New York? HOW do they expect their students to learn without the Pre-K programs?
small dogs maybe. large dogs hr is 80-120. just took mine and it's 90 sitting here...
get a lot of small dogs up closer to 200 though
90 just sitting still? That's a bit fast (humans heart rates are 60-100
hmm. i must be defective.
or excited
got my rate up just thinking about mattresses and incubators? heh
LOL! Yep. (I should have said NORMAL human heart rate is 60-100, BTW)
right; i assumed we were talking about normals.
so did I but I wanted to clarify. Sometimes I take shortcuts and what I type isn't what my brain said
that could get confusing, yes :)
how big is your local hospital?
hard to say... i have only been there once
no, twice. i went in for a blood draw one morning, i guess.
a little larger than the si4 you'd expect for a town of 3000 people, i guess? we have a long-term care as well as hospital/emergency
so how big does it look? 2 or 3 stories; half a block or 4 blocks around?
uhm... about a block, i guess
1 story, i think
okay, you might want to check out a larger hospital in a nearby city. You may find all sorts of useful things in a larger one: lab equipment, etc.
it just boggles my mind that they have this stuff sitting around; the incubator was going to get sent to the dump! it's so wasteful...
it really is. I was amazed when I got to go through my old hospital's used equipment room and saw all sorts of good stuff going to waste.
i'd think that there would be a more organized way of re-homing this equipment to veterinary clinics or smaller practices, or even sending stuff to remote/disaster areas or something
nbt
sorry I'd wandered off to make the bed for DH's Aunt (she's staying overnight and fell asleep in the chair; I figured that that was a hint....
hehe. a good sign that it might be approaching bed time :)
I think that so many places don't think about how items can be re-used or re-purposed by someone in the community; and thinking about sending stuff to disaster areas can be so expensive
but there should be/could be a sort of centralized way to do that... red cross collection areas in major cities or something. so it would mean transporting stuff from here to the city about 50 miles away, but then red cross could collect and sort and redistribute to areas they are already sending people and supplies. just snagging red cross out of the air here, wouldn't have to be them, obviously.
that'd be a lot less expensive and hassle for the smaller hospitals than trying to figure out where to send stuff, packing it up and shipping it to japan or haiti
I've heard of some hospitals "clearing out" storerooms and hallways for official certification visits by putting stuff into semi trucks and then having the trucks just drive around until the certification process is over.
and would avoid duplication and gaps in needs
heh. some of the stuff we got was actually just being stored in a truck...
very true, jes. But I guess that someone either hasn't thought of that or someone decided it's too expensive to do. :-(
hmm
i am much too invested to quit my job and go do that.
WOW!!! Was JAHCO recently there?
jahco?
half way
that's the expensive certification group for hospitals
(Sorry, my daughter came home and was chatting about her roller derby bout tomorrow night)
ah. no, they were just slowly filling the truck. when the truck is full, they haul it all off to the dump. so there were mattresses, and the incubator, and a 'dead' fridge, and assorted other stuffs in the back of the truck indefinitely.
that is terrible!
the truck itself, it seems, is a cast-off from one of the bigger hospitals from the city.
don't they recycle there?
equipment recycle? or general recycling? and do you mean community or hospital?
all of the above
(or below, maybe)
community recycle sort of--there's a drop off at the edge of town for paper, aluminum, glass.
there are cardboard recycle bins scattered through town.
there is no curbside pick up.
plastic has to be taken to the next county if you want to recycle that.
(i did mention i live in the middle of the wild wild west where the west is still wild, right?)
as for what the hospital does, i'm pretty clueless--i had no idea until yesterday that this used equipment thing could even be happening...
i'm very lucky -- i live 2 blocks from a big recycle center behind the local high school: paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum, glass
hi une
insomuch as i ever thought about it, i assumed that hospitals had some sort of plan for selling used equipment or passing them down to smaller clinics or donating to needy areas...
and I have curbside recycling with twice a year hazardous waste community recycling at several centers around the community
this was apparently a fallacious assumption.
hey, jes -- FYI today I picked up a golden dropped off at the local shelter in the next county -- his owner had died -- brought him to a nearby animal hospital with connections to Middle TN golden rescue and he's gonna find a nice foster/adopter -- sweet boy -- but HUGE -- 135 lbs!
yay! hurrah for rescue dogs, unea! :)
well, the hospital I worked at had a warehouse and it would allow employees to go there once a week and buy items at discount and the public could buy stuff there too (at a slightly higher cost
so nef, if you come across any infant/child sized blood pressure cuffs that your facility is tossing out, save them for me?
indeed!! It broke my heart to see him in that shelter, altho it's a very nice one -- he looked soooo sad
the hospital here apparently does very few babies
I no longer work at a hospital due to an OTJ injury; but I'll see if they have any
wonder why nobody in the family wanted him. that's pretty sucky for the dog, but glad he made it to a rescue :)
oh, i thought you did... i thought you had just changed jobs.
the shelter had LOTS of dogs that were owner-surrendered -- according to the volunteer I spoke with, it's due to "the economy"
yeah, a lot of rescues have been overwhelmed the last couple years. animals that get dumped with foreclosures, that sort of thing.
No, I can't be on my foot for more than 2 hours a day even now (nearly 6 years later)
but then, every rescue i've ever worked for was always full anyway, even before they had the economy to blame.
and now they're overwhelmed with animals rescued from floods and tornadoes . . .
can't even work a desk job, nef?
oh, i know -- the Nashville Humane Shelter always has a LONG waiting list
that's what I do now, jes. But not connected to a hospital; and for less than half of what I made working in a hospital too.
breed specific rescues are a good way to ease some of the pressure at general rescues; it's good that he could be transferred. i know the shelter i used to work at would always try to move any apparently purebred dogs to the breed rescues rather than euthanize them.
oh, i see. not sure who i was thinking of then, sorry i got you confused with someone else nef
that's okay, jes. Now that I sit all the time I need a hip replacement (but won't have one until I know I won't have problems
true! A lot of Great Pyrenees have been surrendered around here and they go straight to the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue here in Middle Tennessee :-)
now that i'm feeling thoroughly humbled by my lack of social graces... heh.... i'm gonna go move the horses back to their pen and shower and go to bed.
sleep tight, jes! :-)
big fluffy dog rescue? that's hilarious and wonderful. do they do newfoundlands too?
Unea, there's a big fluffy dog rescue in Nashville? I have a retired nurse friend in Nashville who loves Dobermans
yes, and Saint Bernards :-)
hey, nef
i love it! ok. off for re4 this time. hugs all!
hey all
nef, there's a Tennessee Doberman Rescue and an East Tennessee Doberman Rescue -- lots of breed-specific rescues around here
niters, jes!
Hi Dorens!
hey, dorens :-)
une tomorrow Im going to see good people. frances mcdormand
nef, just tell your retired friend to google away! :-)
ooohhhh, be sure to give us a full report! Tomorrow I'm going with friends to see a local production of Pump Boys and Dinettes, which I saw with Mother 30 years ago in NYC!
well you have a great time and i will too. you'll get report. (by the way, i was very happy that the critics liked the mother with the hat as much as they did... wasn't sure they would)
she did get a rescue dog about 6-8 months ago; but he was young and hyper-active. And I don't thing he was a Doberman
how is your mother doing these days, une?
dorens, Mother passed away January 5
Oooh, I'm sorry Unea. I didn't know that
Une, I'm sorry, I think I knew that and I've had one of my many senior moments. please forgive me
it was one of those "good" funerals with tons of local folks who had known her for decades plus relatives from Louisiana plus some of my friends from Nashville
then the better question is, how are You doing?
and, as you know, she had been ill for so very long -- we kept her with us way past when she would have wanted -- hard decision but a good one
I'm OK but Mother's Day was not too terrific . .
i know.. the first of these days is always the hardest..
I've gotten together with her caregivers several times -- sweetest ladies in the world!
My dad's birthday is May 3, and he passed away June 15 and the days between the two are filled with memories. Still miss him, but after 8 years the feeling is a bit softer
I can imagine, dorens -- Mother and I were so close, and we traveled quite a bit together, so I have lots and lots of wonderful memories and a slew of photos :-)
memories and photos are more impt than anything
I've scanned a gazillion!
my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer the day before his birthday and he moved in with me the day after. so there are many memories in particular of the end. But he lived in manhattan and we were very close, not like you and your mother, tho... you had such a special relationship
Treasure those memories and photos, girls. I wish I had my Mom after I was 8. As I age; it's harder to remember
oh, wow, dorens, what a terrific daughter you were!
well, if you knew him you'd understand... anyone would have done the same. he was remarkable. but the end here was pretty hairy, and unfortunately some of my clearest memories are not exactly good ones.
in my brain AND in photos, I have great pix of Mother riding horses, paddling canoes, sliding down Mt. Ste Victoire with me :-)
Dorens, you did the best you could with what you had. Remember that
good that you have both... the photos help remind the brain
oh thanks nef... i am pleased, honored and proud to have had him here. he certainly did appreciate it, and it was the least i could do for such a terrific guy who gave so much and asked for so little
Nef, to lose your mom at age 8 -- can't imagine
ok, ladies, off I go -- not gonna finish this one -- sleep well and take care :-)
very sad nef. It is one of the hardest things for me to work with when a student is in that situation. my sympathy
night une. i might not either... 14 stubborn words left here
I had a nurse friend whose mother died at the age of 103; my friend was in her early 80's at the time. She missed her Mom as much as I do. I think anytime we lose our mothers a piece of us dies too and there is an empty spot there forever
that is a good way to look at it nef... you must have had a great support system at the time
who knows? The thing is we are survivors
indeed.
And as survivors, our job is to pass on the story of those that went before us and not let them be forgotten
yes, that is our duty and honor
brb
I would love to write the story of my mom''s life, and then the story of my life so that the peeps who come after know who she was and who I am
sounds like a good idea joey, have you begun writing?
no, but my mom kept intermittent journals over her life. I wish I could find them all.
I got a surprise call from my 17 year old nephew. he asked if he could come live with me when he turns 18. that is moving from VA to TX. I am very concerned about the move, but I would do anything for him. He told me that he would rather be 18 and bored in Texas than 18 and homeless in VA. HIs mom is kicking him out
back
joey, I love your idea of writing about your Mom and your lives. Please do it!
Why is his Mom kicking him out, joey?
Of all the options available to one purportedly omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent, I will never understand why this place we inhabit is home to so much hurt, evil and malevolence.
sounds like it could be interesting, challenging and hopefully rewarding
babrab,. human nature is not always pretty, is it?
I really want to. I have already written one book for my parents quite a while ago. I found it the other day. I have already put it into the cedar chest that I want my nephews to find. way before there was book publishing on line - it is handwritten with pictures.
hi BR. And that is a good question (but I think that Man is weak and our egos and selfishness get in our weay)
and i'm not sure about omnipresence, omniscience, omnipotence or omnibenevolence... pretty much a fairy tale as far as I can see
BabbleRabble - I am grateful for what you wrote. I often wonder the same
we played a "game" the other day. If we were dying an could have make a wish grant us one wish - no matter what - it was amazing how many wished for no more war and no more killing
little help with a couple of re's please . . . re 8/40 and the 6/21 right below it.
I do not think it is man's weakness ... one so powerful who knows the course of the world beforehand certainly can change it if he/she so chooses.
br, the 8 ends with what is done with a boat.
rails
Now I will go ... my opinions mean nothing
it is re and part of the rear end
BR - your opinions are very welcome. please don't go
oh, crap - those clus were for PCJonesy
no, BR, I think that Man has a free will to screw things up or not.
I am going to keep my mouth shut for a while. back to lurking
eh, joey, I screwed up too
tks nef
35 to go, I am not going to make it. oh, well
I have too many left to finish; but that's okay now too
