Hi, sprite!
hey Jellen :) Tough period of time with missing Tim?
Actually, I'm doing okay...
Last week was rough, though...
that is wonderful :) Good memories? Have been thinking of you both, when I read in your profile which time of year it was.

Very good memories :-)

sleep well, Jellen. Sweet dreams :)
hello sprite :)
hey mrP :)
sanitary stop, back soon
hello again
dinner (!!) is cooking and I have a couple of minutes
78 this AM
back. Hi rubyfoo
I make a spicy chicken dish which is better if it sits all day, after being cooked the first time
dinner? good gad. Haven't even had breakfast. Haven't even had coffee!
if I do the dinner in the morning, then I can rest after lunch
otherwise, I can't cook (back, etc.)
yes, very true. I used to do that, back when I was still doing the cooking. Made some oven dish in the morning.
husband gets up at 5; I get up at 7:45. He shops in the AM while I cook. Complicated, but it mostly works....
what I cook at night is the pasta (for the chicken) and the dogs' (elaborate) dinner.
and something simple for me
we all eat different things; husband needs his spicy, dogs need theirs rich, I need mine easy
and when I make this particular big dish, husband eats it for 3 or 4 days
i need thai tonight!
pfew. We all eat the same things here, except for Terra, but he just gets kibble.
there is plenty, mrp! grab that next plane
I need coffee now. But don't have the energy to make it!
you are smart, sprite. I am a kitchen fool
guess I am lazy :P
thai. Now you're talking. I love thai.
oooh! for sure!
I don't think so, sprite.....I am just silly
i have roast duck curry and green chicken curry
of course there is dahl and basmati rice!
the kids ripped me off and took all the naan bread!
I love thai food, but Indonesian even more. Unfortunately, no restaurants for either, here. Just bland, miserable food locally
nary a pappadum in sight either!
darn darn darn. Naan bread is soooo good. Especially the garlic naan.
I used to do a lot of Indian cooking, but much too tired to do it any more plus we rarely entertain and making Indian food for two is just too sad.....
luv garlic naan!! I get about 4!! 2 for me!
oh ruby, give it another go
when we first got here, I used to bake bread, make Indian banquets, etc etc. Not any more
true, rubyfoo. But it IS lovely. Maybe, if I ever come over to yours, we can do some Indian cooking together. I used to cook a lot of Indian.
I've even given up Thanksgiving feasts, too much work, too expensive, and wasted on French people who didn't understand the holiday or a feast on a Thursday!
never throw pearls before the swines, rubyfoo :) Save it for people who appreciate it.
oh, sprite, how I would love that. I designed the kitchen to easily accomodate two cooks as we did a huge amount of entertaining the first 5 years we were here
exactly
lol mrP, if we ever go eat Thai together, we must fight over the naan! Or order enough for 12 ;)
let's remember, rubyfoo. Because if we are gonna do that, I can bring spices and veggies etc. Easily obtainable here.
I have all the spices and a wonderful vegetable supermarket (Grand Frais, I think it's a European chain) and can get virtually everything
maybe I'll make some tomato chutney, just in case
Hi all!! can you spare a thought for our eldest g/dtr (11), her and her classmates have just lost a friend...she passed whilst on the list for a heart transplant....darling girl was just 10 1/2 yrs old...her whole school is devastated....g/dtr is doing OK but wants lots of {HUGGLES}...thanx xxx
but not the breads, that's true
omg dizgrannie. Thoughts and prayers to all people involved. That is so incredibly sad.
if I could send her a big hug, I surely would. How sad for the children, to lose a classmate like that!
oh my god. So sorry to hear that dizgrannie.
((((((((((granddaughter)))))))))))))))
hello neil -- twice in two days! Do I have good luck or what?
THANX ALL!!
and now, back to the stove
Uhhh, what makes you so sure it's good luck?
{{dizgrannie}] and more meal planning later, sprite. Fun to plan a "virtual" Indian meal
hi negativeneil... guess I must call you PP!
if you're a friend of Seain, I am sure you are terrif!
bye rubyfoo, have a good time cooking :)
what's PP, sprite?
PP? Don't see how that applies?
positivepaul
hahah
My name isn't Paul though. It is Neil.
how about CC: cynical charlie
Positive Pete is my antithesis.
lol
the school has been fantastic and have brought counsellors in for those in need....they will be holding a memorial service later this week.
we walk into the same room and cancel each other out. Or something like that.
sounds like a very good school, helping the children through the trauma
parents must be heartbroken... it is beyond words, so sad.
*poof*
Yes, it sure is. Can't be anything more devastating than losing a child.
g/dtr is taking it harder now than when she lost her little bro when she was 4
might bring back some of that grief too, dizgrannie.
sorry guys/gals....just need to say things as it is pretty anonymous here - not like on FB...xxx
thanks for sharing, dizgrannie. And I will hold your granddaughter and the other people involved in my thoughts and prayers.
What really made me smile is that she said she will 'visit' her friend like she did with her bro, TJ. When TJ died she apparently went to play with him but she didn't like it up there so the angels brought her back down
aw dizgrannie. That is priceless.
she sometimes spooks us out with things she says...LOL
hehehe I can imagine, but it looks like you don't have to worry. She seems to have a very fine perception of what belongs where.
thanx Sprite, that is more or less what her teacher told us..xx
:) A good teacher is a trustworthy judge. Big *hug* for her and you. I have fireflies and I must be away. Bye all.
Night Sprite...WTG and Thanx againxxx

hi
Good Morning or evening if that fits
Hi River. It is evening and I am currently piggy backing off my mobile with the pc so sorry if I drop out
no problem - 7:41 am here - at work early today - had to have son at school for 6:20 am for high school soccer tryouts
Ok
Best luck to him
thanks - got cancelled yesterday with the hard rain - hoping it holds off today for a bit
just realized I have NBT and NBS - yay
hi all, still raining?
no at the moment but expected to off and on all day - poured all day yesterday - we need it though - has been a very dry summer
and hello mich
Hi. My daughter is in NJ for the summer, she has never seen summer rain.
that is quite a trip - are you from the states originally
HI Mich
Yes, I am grew up in Philly. Her friend's aunt arranged for the niece & 2 friends to be counselors at a day camp. They are having the time of their lives. Hi Herin, River.
how fun for her and her friends - they should try the northeast next time - some great camps up here - my kids went when they were younger
Next year she'll be 17 and have more options. Sleepaway camps don't want 16 y.o. counselors and we can't afford airfare and camp prices!
I spent summers in the Poconos myself. I loved every minute. My sister (49 y.o.) still is on the summer teaching staff at 'our' camp.
I understand - my daugher wanted to be a counselor at 16 but it still costs - half price but they need to be there a minimum of 6 weeks. We couldnt afford that. Camp was $750 for 2 weeks.
the Poconos are beautiful - went there once about 30 years ago - when I was young and foolish with my ex-husband
Right, we could have paid for her to work as a babysitter or a waitress, this way she gets paid and the aunt was happy to put them up.
River have you thought that your daughter may like to actually do work as a counselor
she doesnt anymore - leaving for college next week - where did the time go
she is now deep into photography and art
I mean as a counsel person on summer amp
camp even
I dont want to lose her a whole summer - thats the problem
I am now losing her a whole school year
camps are 2+ hours away from us - not far but far enough not to see her and they only allowed out 1 day every other weekend so its not like she could come home.
I think camp is a great microcosm of life. I am glad I was able to give my kids that experience. Camp here is only 2 or 3 weeks but it's still a good experience. Now only my youngest is camper age.
Ok
Even as a worker?
my son is 14 now - he stopped going to camp when Sarah stopped. Oldest allowed is 15. He really didnt miss it - lots to do around where we live. He is very independent and rode his bike to the lake (about 6 miles from our house) almost every day
yes even as a worker - kids have to stay so the counselors have to stay. Camps here start the end of June and run through the middle of August. Every 2 weeks is a new session. Kids leave on Friday night and then new ones come in on Saturday morning.
Wow
I have now hit a wall on this grid with 50 to go - may have to list soon
brb
Bye for now.
I am still here. Camp is a good experience as a camper and also as staff, different but both good.
hi all, just popping in for a minute before I do my exercises

Good morning all. The birds are chirping and the sun is shining. I'm optimistic about the promise of today. : )
sounds good, molly!
hello everybody
hello ruby
and I have done my exercises, am off to shower and breakfast, then to get new orthotics
hi and bye sue
hi, ruby, river, mom, inge, wv!
hello ((Ruby)) nice to see you
hi uusue and Molly
and guten morgen Inge
today is the first hot day and I have to go out and pick fruit!
{{mom}}
hi ruby
Ruby, what fruit will you be picking?
what kind of fruit?
hello sue and river (if you're still here)
hiya wv teach
Sue, I like your icon. It looks like one of those "eyes in the sky".
I am here - hiding from my boss
blackberries, strawberries and tomatoes
how dare he interfere with your game time!
yummmm
*Sending cabana boys to hold an umbrella over Ruby, and fan her while she picks fruit*
<-- raising an indignant eyebrow at your boss
I was here bright and early this morning - had to have Keith at school for soccer tryouts by 6:20 am
came straight into work so I deserve some play time
and I've just discovered that my "decorative" hazelnut actually has nuts! Unfortunately, we don't like them
<------- blindfolding Mr Ruby so he doesn't see the cabana boys
exactly, River!
hahahah
we planted hazelnut trees 4 years ago and still no nuts
I really don't mind the heat; it is gorgeous here, with rain almost every night so it is much greener (and flowerier and fruitier) than the usual August
we finally got a full day of rain yesterday - needed it desperately
thisd is a lovely little tree with flowers, purple leaves and tassels in the fall (I think, not sure though)
might be in spring
it is the third tree we've tried in what must be a bad part of the garden
and the roses are fowering for the 3rd time!
that is great Ruby
sounds beautiful
what a wonderful summer for you ruby
I've put a bushel of tomatoes in the PB for anybody who would like them
I love this place!
my mother in law would grind the hazel nuts and then make a hazel nut torte with them
our tomatoes have finally started to turn - picked a few last night - of course the cherry tomatoes have been ready for a couple of weeks
love to make tomato sandwiches with the fresh tomatoes
do they have to be toasted to be tasty?
our cauliflower is now all gone - been picking green beans nightly, celery was delish
i don't know - we got them at the store since we didn't have the trees to pick them from - so i assume they were roasted
I give them away to anybody who comes by. I'm tempted to put up a little stand in front of the house with my Ruby
but I don't know if an honor system would work in France.....
River, you grew your own celery?
just not France, Ruby
yes and it is great - with a little peanut butter - yum
p
do you grow rhubarb too?
lover celery with peanut butter, sweetie likes it with Philadelphia cream cheese
we use a lot of cauliflower, bu husband has to cut it up for me because I've afraid of the fat green worms!
we have huge rhubarb plants - still going strong - we just cut the flowers off so the plant stays strong. Have baked all summer with it.
<-- likes it with cream cheese
love the peanut butter with it - never tried it with cream cheese - will have to try that
I tried making rhubarb for the first time this year, but it was too sweet. What proportion of sugar is correct, river
made a wonderful rhubarb cinnamon crumble
RIver, did you grow it from seed?
no - first started with a cutting from my aunt and now 15 years later it is huge. My husband have split it many times to give to friends.
time to scoot off here. River, enjoy breakfast ((Hugs)) to all of you
{{mom}}
yes it is that time - have a great day Mom
((Ruby))
you as well River
I am off too for a bit to fill my stomach - bbs
((Ruby)) enjoy your fruits/veggies - see you later
((river))
out to pick fruit, 61 words to go (sure, ruby, fat chance!)

please put some in the PB so we can all have purple fingers
would like to see that ruby...lol
*Adds French vanilla ice cream for the blackberries*
next to the bushel of hot tomatoes!
sounds like a party to me!
the only bad thing here are invisible biting insects called "aoutats" and, like their name, they are just a nussance in August
*Adds salt shaker and vinaigrette drizzle for the tomatoes*
here is a strange word di7 an d8 - di + cons + oxen harness (pt for the 8)
will have fresh basil tomorrow
Ruby, 'round these parts we call those bugs Noseeums.
I have that 8, river, but what are the stats for the other one
I have a ton of basil. You will need to get some hard crusted bread, slice of tomato, slice of mozzarella cheese, basil leaf drissled with a vinegrette.....yum
are noseeum bites nasty?
these make huge welts which itch for days
No, just annoying. They don't welt up or anything.
bites are not bad - not like deer flies - they take hunks out of you
and I must have Italy on the brain, keep seeing gondolier in the grid......
River you must like pesto if you have a lot of basil.
Hi JBV
not really a pesto fan - I just use alot of basil - make my own spaghetti sauce and freeze it
does anybody like moths? I have a month which comes into the house every day, stays in the same spot (actually, I've named him Spot), even though I've carried him back outside several times
he's an Oak Eggar

pet moth - hmmmm
hello jbv
he is really beautiful
oops, double post - sorry I've got a severe lag here....
I used google to identify him, only had to look at 100 photos of moths to find him
we actually plant basil in our flower pots as the center with annuals around it.
I love living in the country
for some reason, I am never successful with my basil plants
fireworks here - anyone need clues before I get back to work

I have basil, oregano and chives - thats it for herbs for me. Have some mint in the perenneal garden but dont use it. It overtakes everything though. Actually now growing in the lawn. Smells great when the lawn is mowed.
ol 8 - type of flower
Ruby, here is what is said about a moth animal totem/spirit guide: Moth will help in transitions and show how to adapt to new surroundings. He will teach you to find your own light as a beacon in the direction you should go. It is time to pay attention to your feelings to clarify your movement and discern what is real and not. Are you listening carefully to verbal and non-verbal cues,to what is and is not being said? Are you sensing the world around you? or sensing too much? Moth will teach how to be still, rest and listen and balance your being. In finding your own light clarity in the moment of darkness will be found and your sensitivity to Spirit increases.

I have had some gorgeous moths come to visit on my patio.
well I am off to work for real this time - have a great day everyone - ((hugs)) to all
do you have hawk moths? they are both diurnal types
{{river}}
I prefer moths to butterflies because they don't move so much and can be admired (and identified) more closely
Don't know that I've seen a hawk moth. I've had some lunar moths come to visit.
hawk moths hover like hummingbirds and are almost as big
I've only seen photos of Luna moths but they are beautiful
good morning everyone:)
we have several butterfly bushes, so have tons of small butterflies, none of which I can identify

I took that with my old, Easyshare camera too. That thing can capture some nice shots sometimes.
do you like spiders molly? I have a photo of one from a few years ago. She was huge and lived outside, a common European garden spider, argiope, and I called her caliope
I learned how to catch flies without killing them for her
I love spiders. There are many Native American legends about Grandmother Spider. I always think that seeing them is a good sign. I have some that spin beautiful webs right next to my garden.
what kinds? I'll google them
the only ones I don't like are the big black ones that live in the house and jump. They don't build webs, so are less predictable
hey all
clue for that pesky di 8 please

Haha! We'll cancel each other out? Or something like that. "Positive Pete" is my antithesis.

Isn't "Neil" easier and faster to type, kje?
yes, but not as annoying
Jellen, how's your typing speed>
Uhhh... ? that should be.
Moderate...
Oh, nothing annoying about it kje.
lol... darn, must try harder
oh I see. I was hoping to get more of you on OMGPOP to play "Letterblox". A very addictive word finding game.
Haha, kje. You could never be a fraction as annoying as some of the people I have to deal with.
I'm sure of that.

Speaking of tunes, I have a friend coming over today to help me install a new surround sound system...:-)
Hi/bye jes
Oh you'll love that, Jellen!
I have one. Nothing like it!
I can't crank mine up very loud because I live in an apartment building, but the sound quality is NICE!
I have an ancient one, but it's not compatible with my TV...
Oh I see.
I was cutting edge, back in the day... :-P
It feels like you're in a movie theater though when you have that. I wish I could play it louder when I have music videos on the tube. One day... when I'm in a house.
You'll get there, neil...
Haha! Yeah, my parents had one when they were a new thing. Dad's right into technology.
He had to have computers in the house when they were new too. We grew up with them.
I dunno about that. Something major has to change for that to happen... not on what I'm earning now.
I have to find another assignment for the end of this month. Fun!
good luck with that, neil! (and hi - stopping in briefly again)
what is your field?
I'm trying to figure out what I want to do next, too...
I'm a journalist and photographer.
Hi, uusue
hi, jellen!
sounds like fun, neil! Very different from what I do...
Also a political writer, but that's just something I do on the side and often without pay.
I'm toying with the idea of going back to school...
What do you do, uusue2? How poetic.
Oh really Jellen? To study what?
I am a physics professor.
Wow, Sue.
<--- is very much in favor of education :-)
That's the 64 million dollar question!
So am I, Sue.
yes, it tends to be a conversation stopper :-)
There's an small university near me that offers a MA in English with a technical writing emphasis...
Which is why I majored in Political Science at UCSC.
oh, that sounds interesting, jellen!
Liked the area so much, I decided to stay. I'm from San Diego originally.
where do you live in Santa Cruz?
Oh I see, Jellen... what do you hope to do with that?
What, you want my address?
no.. what area
Um, technical writing :-)...or editing...
I'm kind of careful about posting that on here, rururocks. I have people who try to search for me sometimes... who I'd rather didn't know that.
oh okay.. not a problem..it's a pretty area..
I assume anything posted here could be searchable online, using google for instance?
Yes it is search-able on Google. And you are smart to be careful. Many people are not.
Are the profiles searchable as well?
(I don't much care personally, just curious)
Oh I've had to learn to be careful, Molly.
And yes ruru, it's a very pretty area.
Yes, they are. I just found flosey's through Google.
(Interestingly, flosey's profile is the second return when I googled "uusue2". Go figure.)
Some of them are, it depends on what and how much information is in them. Internet robots troll the net for key words and that is how an "order" is established on a web search.
Hi, Sam...haven't seen you in a while!
I see, Samantha. I use Google all the time... my business and personal email accounts are Gmail.
We went from vacation to minor heatlh emergency. I'm only just recovering.
Although I use a Hotmail account a lot too.
does anyone have the so 6/21?
howdy again everyone, back for a few more:)
interesting - I googled "physics babblets" and got lots of archived puzzles, and flosey's profile, but not mine. Weird.
Has flosey mentioned uusue2 in her profile, Sam? That may be why.
Haha! That IS weird, Sue.
It's a word that you usually see with "be" in front of it, and it implies puppy love
hope you are ok, samantha!!
Yes, she has, neil. the link is obvious, but it seems the bots have picked up flosey's profile and not sue's
It implies being very, very smitten. Yes.
thanks
Oh, everything's rapidly getting back to normal. the health emergency was my husband's; dunno why I'm the one recovering from it, but there you go!
Oh, that would be because she has a link in it to Sue's profile maybe? Don't know. I haven't seen flosey's profile.
Wow, just googled my screen name...
Oh no, Samantha? Everything ok?
It can be just as hard - or harder - if it is your loved one who is going through something, samantha - have had that going on recently with both my father and my son; they are doing well and I am a mess :-)
I think it's worse in that case, Sue... I'm always way more upset for someone I love than myself.
yeap..been there done that samantha
Hi crossy...
Everything's manageable, and looking up. Nothing (currently) life threatening. And it was never stuff that would have threatened to kill him, just stuff that would have changed our lives, if that makes sense.
howdey jellen:))
Yes, that makes sense, Sam...
yes it does... u have ur plan..u have goals...and suddenly something throws that out the window and losing a dream is like losing a loved one
Aww. I hope it doesn't, Samantha.
Your name looks familiar, carleekat? Don't know where from but I think somewhere other than here?
Maybe here. I haven't been on here in a while.
Anyone have stats on that N? It's all I need for NBT
hmmmmm.....i played on pogo for a bit?
Oh I'm on pogo, but don't like the site.
no 4/4
no 4.4
I'm on Lexulous too... and OMGPOP of course.
same... i played word whomp and cribbage
nope..not on those
d'oh! slap me with a musical fish
thanks
Oh OMGPOP is good... especially if you can type fast and enjoy word finding games. I'm addicted to the one word game they have: Letterblox
Btw, neil, I'm ready to be trounced again on Lexulous...would you like me to set up a multi-player game?
A musical fish? A tune-a? :P
Fish are musical. They have scales.
Uhhh, ok Jellen. Once I figure out who to include!
That's the one I had in mind, yes :-)
Are you FINished?
I'm at NBT and halfway and I have to go make coffee now. See y'all later.
Grrroannn.
Did you say that just for the halibut?
You all are GILL-ty of punning!
Some fish are bass.
Bye, Sam...
This chog is out of tuna.
Yep. I am an invertebrate punster and spinelessly unable to resist a pun. So slug me.

time is a face on the water and ka is the wheel is the wheel that spins, what will be shall be..good lord..lol..i just finished the darktower series and my mind is still caught in mid-world
what are you talking about carlee? you want my thoughts on a good winter tyre?
cus...i will be buying an economical car... ( thinking kia soul ) and will be buying cash..no payment plan etc...so going to talk them into a set of tires
u told me about ones last winter
ask for some blizzaks
by goodyear
as i will be driving through the snow belt 2ce a day back and forth every day
that them..thanks
they are a great winter tire
but a kia?
i would rather by a good used 2 year old civic or carmy for same price
i need cheap and i want the warrenty
kias are tin buckets, they almost buckle when i open the hood of the things
and the kia are getting nice ratings now
many 2 year old hondas and toyotas come with balancer of warranty
just my thoughts
i will be selling it in a year
i want teh gas economy
ahh ok then, but be warned, the firewalls are thin as tissue paper, but if you drive for a year and dump it,may be ok
my toyota get 47mpg
if i am heading overseas for a few years...i dont need a car
yea,if you just drive for year or so and toss it,might be better to set up 2 year lease, cause resale on those are terrible
trust me,check the blue book resale value on a two year old kia..it is not good..i would lease if you are going right from school to dubai or wherever
i dont want payments...i jsut want to buy and not have the hassle
but you will lose 50% of the purchace price when you go to sell in 2 years
i am so freaking tired of hassle
i am just telling you like a dutch uncle here my dear
i am eliminating hassle PITA situations..payments..are a hassle
i know...but come from where i am
ok,well each to their own
u know my life of last 3+ years
i know it indeed, but i do not like to see you waste money
i want no headache... i want no worries ( warranty )...and i cant afford much more that 15K on a new car
i just..want...new
ok,lol,ok carlee..
base model kia soul...with standard transmission...
must go for now,laundry calls
smaller engine
bbl...poink!
Carlee, do you know a good mechanic?
he used to be good...now he over charges b/c his wife put himm in debt
and i really just want peace of mind....i have not had any for years....if i buy new...i have that...
I mean one that would give you an opinion on the car you're buying. I would suggest the advice of a mechanic on that, they know what they are talking about as they work on cars all day long.
if that means i lose $ at the end..so be it..its worth it to me to have peace of mind
i am pretty limited as to my base price molls
So you already have a model in mind, ask the mechanic what he thinks about it. Always good to get a knowledgeable opinion. In the end, you are going to get what you can afford, I know that drill.
( he hates ALL new cars cus there are too many electronic thingies to go wrong and make his life hell)
he barrated us for the ford ecape we bought 6 years ago
I said a GOOD mechanic. : )
Fords have a bad record for repair work.
i said..he WAS good now he charges too much and i dont trust him anymore
my two cents worth, a dealership is the most pricey place to have a car repaired if it isn't under warruntee.
yeap..but i plan to sell it in a year... and i want the warranty
Well then do your homework on the internet. Look up customer reviews of what you have in mind. As long as it's not on a lot of "lemon" lists, I'm sure it will be fine. And if you are going to be doing that long of a commute, get a membership to a reliable auto service just to be safe.
and seriously molls..right now...i really just want peace of mind
i do...caa :)
Good girl. Too many single women do not.
and will upgrade to better service i have base package now..will upgrade to best
oops misspelled warranty.............

yay Bichon!
Snags, you're right about dealerships. Once the warranty work is over, best to find a good independent mechanic.

Carlee, my brother in law both 2 Kia's in one year and still loves them. They bought the Serento and the Soul, or toaster as my hubby calls them.
i dont want payments... i just want to go..get leave with a car
I'm curious though. Why buy the car flat out if you're going to ditch it in a year? You really will lose a lot of money that way.
its the soul i will get....with standard transmission
you will like it......... I promise.
perhaps will sell to my daughter... she will be driving by then,or close to
and it will still have warranty... and i wil lknwo she has a reliable car for a few years

Lets say the car is 15 and you put 5 down. Then you are financing about 12 with tax and the add ons. That gives you a monthy of around 240. So if you are only keeping the car for a year, you sink 7 into it instead of 15 and leave yourself with extra available cash.
and my daughter doesnt have a car when i leave
i'll consider it molls
its worth considering
:)
ok..i need to start prepping dinner me thinks
( making turkey and dumplings....baked in oven so the dumplings get crispy on top and start simmering a turkey carcas for broth )
and doing laundry
hey all. just poking my nose in for a few minutes and trying to ignore the laundry that is waiting and the headache that is starting... just a headache, I think. No migraine to speak of in several days!
hi stid...just taking 5 min b4 putting the baby down
how are you doing harry?
just got nbt, but still 79 to go
ok - babysitter left us for 2 weeks, so things are a bit hectic
oh I see. We rarely used sitters, but that's because I was so paranoid.
*Puts a soothing herbal and mint wrap around Stid's sore head*
Hi again
we have a lady who's been with us since my 7 year old was a 2-month old. she comes every weekday from 8:30 to 2:00 so we can work :)
Hey Jellen
hi jell, moll
hey jellen and molly!
Wow Harry, that is nice that you have a dependable sitter like that.
that's nice -- we couldn't afford the specialized care for the elder boy when he was born, cheaper for me to stay home. But so glad you have someone steady so you can work!
well, long-lived is not always the same as dependable - she usually shows up 15 min late, and a couple times a year she leaves for a week or two.
I stayed home with my older two for the same reason Stid. And loved it.
and lugging all the kids to every little errand this week is so tiring
Harry, leaves, or takes a vacation?
I love sitting for my grands, but I couldn't do it all the time
we give her 2 weeks vacation a year, but she needs more time, so she takes it w/o pay
it's just quite disruptive
LOL lugging OLDER kids is tiring too! We are Finally Done with the plays for the summer, and the younger stidkid is acting so "put out" that I don't want to run him back and forth between friends' houses (we live in a rural area with no buses and far-flung friends) and the many appointments we put off until this week.
I was home with our oldest for the first year - it was definitely NOT for me. I'm home with them all during the afternoon, but I need a little outside time too
I can see why her unscheduled departure would be a problem.
luckily I'm between summer school and regular school right now, so this trip hasn't been disastrous.
but other times it's been really crazy.
how many kids harry?
5
ages??
I am glad to have survived the younger years. They were sweet when they were little, but more interesting as they grew older.
I would lose my sanity if I had to be a taxi service for my kids. Luckily, when they were teenagers (pre-driving years) everything was close and on bus routes.
2,3,4,7,9
Harry, you need a live-in...........
a live-in what? therapist?
:)
wow harry... that's a lot of young-uns!
lol
that too.........
massage therapist, chef and manicurist I think, harry
<--- Fainted at the thought of that many kids, that close in age.
and birth-control dispenser :)
yeaahhhhhhhh like separate rooms. heeeeee
with no connecting door.
woohoo just got to 50% - gonna go try and get the baby to nap.
later!
Bye Harry
later harry!
ha. Halfway! back later I suppose... *poof*

No wonder you need a nap
I FOUND TIMTAMS IN THE IMPORT FOOD STORE!..WHEEEE!...cough..hello again everyone:)
crossy munches a caramel timtam in the vast emptiness that is the chog....
does crossy have inspiration about the go7? or even the third letter?
hi crossy, what is your opinion on the timtams?
nm, found it
didn't mrP say there were 'proper' timtams and timtams made for export?
do you have the right kind?
the package is marked imported from Aus.
can't remember the brand name, but was same as mrp specified
so do you both have timtams flosey & crossy?
I tried them - was not impressed
perhaps, as you mentioned Glant, the imports are not the same as those purchased in Aus.
i am spoilt in the biscuit world as I make my own or buy top of the range
i don;t have them often but whe i do i want them to be memorable LOL
me too Glant, I love to bake and have a couple of favourites - but for pb cookies, can't beat the local Country Grocer instore bakery
It's the Arnotts Tim Tams and you can get them from Amazon and from import food shops, if you don't live in Australia. I've had them, and they are okay. But they are just cookies. I've never quit understood why people rave about them so.
Or quite understood.
that was my opinion Molly
mybe they are the best cookies in australia LOL
maybe the australians just don't have good cookie recipes!
go 5/16 please
perhaps a childhood memory
That's possible. Glant, I would love to try homemade biscuit cookies.
go5/16 - waiting for go*** but chnage last vowel form o to e
The first one? Deity + g** your elbows off the table
or, go5/16 pl of precious metal
what do you mean by handmade buscuit cookies?
i knwo biscuits in the US has an entirely different meaning to it's UK meaning
our biscuits are drier and thinner and firmer than our cookies
but they are pretty similar things
No, I'm not talking about the biscuits that are more of a buttermilk dinner roll. I know what a biscuit cookie is.
thnx all for your help
have you not tried biscuit cookies then molly?
sorry, phone call - must go out and find hubby
No, I've had them, just not homemade ones.
i could send you a recipe or two
Maybe I'll take you up on that sometime. Right now, I'm trying to keep sweets at a minimum around here as we are attempting to eat healthier.
know that feeling
fireworks
fireworks
twice!
!!! Glant !!!
really couldn't believe the di7 was a word LOL
off to wash the dinner dishes - see you tomorrow - happy babbling
Molly are you always here when I'm here, or am I always here when you're here?
she is always here
back for a few more:)
every time i come in here, the room is empty:((
Maybe everyone is hiding from you. =)
lol maybe,i can have that effect on people
i am on a conference call>
tettle
oops
caught me fishing
*gives crossy a lure box*
just finished the first draft of TA assignments for the fall *kill me now*
this too shall pass
howdy sue
hi, crossy :-)
howdy, sue, crossy, and jmc :-)
*hands uu a noose*
hi, une and jmc! I think I'll take some jack instead of the noose...
Résumé Razors pain you, Rivers are damp, Acids stain you, And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren't lawful, Nooses give, Gas smells awful. You might as well live.
:-D
*gives uu some jack*
ahhhhhh
dorothy parker my favorite poet
<--- was trying to see if the first letters in each line of jmc's poem spell anything. They don't.
what a gal :-)
no they don't but it a great poem
hi une
it is indeed.
i am sooooo tired and i got. . . .yes that would be nothing accomplished today except to get my builder to tell me that he will clean up the flooding in the basement
remember sue,it is not the mountain before you that will wear you out,but the pebble in your shoe:)...(crossy stole that one)
hey all from St. Louis
bummer about the flooding, jmc
howdy ibuxx
and that quote is handing on my wall, thanks to Frank, crossy :-)
:))
hi, lbuxx!
*hanging
more jack needed here...
down to 25.. but stuck
hi lbuxx
*pours uu more jack*
personally i find the mountain hard enough
hi all, clue for the first go5?
i have some misty-jack if anyone wants a wee dram
a female supreme being perhaps?
hi, lbd and bugs!
that would be go7 something bugs
did you get your jacket yet?
mmmm, nice strong cuppa tea and a caramel timtam...
I have a go5 that is reminiscent of someone you can wait for forever...
:-) wondered when someone was going to clue it that way ....
with a slight vowel change
right, that's where the reminiscent part comes in :-)
:-)
I knew why you used reminiscent....
0_o
anyway what I am actually doing is relaxing with a cup of coffee before going home
here sue, have a tim tam..caramel or tripple frudge?
fudge
and it's time for me to put the veggies on... freshly dug potatoes... carrots... and market garden cauliflower.
mmmm fesh garden veggies
with roast pork... smelling mighty delicious right now.... be back later
crossy wants some fresh pea pods;)
the ones you never had cooked as a child, you just ate them right out of the garden
our peas are finished.... cukes and tomatoes just coming.... we've had a wild and crazy summer.
fudge sounds good, crossy!
bye, diane! Enjoy those veggies!
veggies sound good to me with nothing but a microwave with which to cook
i came very close to doing some serious canning this year as the harvest was verry good this year
god i hate government webpages that require that you use explorer
our peaches and cream(sugar and butter) corn is just getting ready to come out of the fields
indeed, jmc! There are some programs here at work that I have to use explorer for (although fewer and fewer, thank goodness!)
jarring is it not jmc?
i have been using chrome for so long now, that explorer is almost painfull
explorer was painful even before i started using firefox
okay i did what i had to do. i filed a stupid form so my day was not a complete loss
(although there is an interesting thread on reddit.com called "first world problems", one of which is "I'm forced to use Internet Explorer at work".)
i think i am going to go find something that resembles supper and take some aspirin. bbl
bye, jmc!
love chrome!
Anyone still here?
hi, kje and mark!
Hello, uu and kje. I do apologize for my long absence from babble. I was at a month long camp.
ooh, sounds like fun! What kind of camp?
Overnight. Kind of like a sports camp, but a little more than that.
<-----never got her tim tams :(
so were you in charge, or a camper?
and bummer, peri!!
Camper
better yet :-)
you can get tim tams from Amazaon but shipping and handling are ery expensive
I would love to be somewhere where someone else was in charge for a month...
It is quite fun.
go7 pls
that -le ending makes for some strange words
go 7 sounds like a sexually transmitted disease
ty Jeff
yw
well, not finding any STD's in the grid, not half way either although I do have nbs and nbt. I think I will go home.
go+ 1st 2 letters of the n. after 8 + beginning of what you used to do with a rotary phone
ty Jeff
Sorry, got to go. Chatting with the family. See y'all later.
thx, jeff! NOW I am half way and will go home :-)

what a weird di7 word
can you pls share?
to take the harness off a ox
ty, i kept thinking it had to be a double s word
ty for the fireworks
saw it was a high tile so figured i'd try it and it worked
Hello Babblers.
Hi, why!
Oops, wht. Autocorrect on phone strikes again.
auto correct can produce some hilarious results
why me?
Usually I am what.
Clue for the tr7?
hi all
why? because we like you
nm, I found it.
hi mc
*jmc
why? because we like you
It is what powers an old sewing machine
heres your hat
(what a hat)
heres your ears
Huh, new spelling
(theres your ears)
your an honorary. . . .
Molly gave me a crown the other day, and now a Mickey Mouse hat.
I am speechless.
mouseketeer!
I have a jealous terrier
morning all :)
the ears go well with your crown
hi mr p
The terrier wants to be a mouseketeer?
Hi, mrp!
Morning Mr Pres.
no she wants to go out with the other dog
hi mrp! how are you sweetie??
Fireworks
Much easier thant the last couple of days.
Yay, wht!
yay wht!!
Does anyone need any clues?
whoo hoo wht
about 34 of them please
I need the other 8 (not di)
to6,24 what a 2year old does.
to5,18 A hot drink for a cold night
hi cat, sue, jmc et al :))
lo7,36 A state sponsered game with windfall prizes.
ty how do the 8s start?
gu7,48. The kind of balls I roll when bowling.
di8,80 ol8,45
ty
Thx, had the di7 but missed the 8
lo7/36 is a tax on the mathematically challenged
a clue for dummies for the di7 or 8 please
Indeed it is, jmc!
clue for the ol8 please
Unharness your oxen, jmc
Hey everyone . . . can anyone help with the first go 5/16
The ol8 is a fragrant flower
Ol8 is a flower
ty
ty wht
*gives oxen some water*
Who you wait for but change the last vowel, PC
ol8 is a poisonous flower
i got whipped once for picking it
whipped for picking a flower??
switched actually--my grandmother used a crepe myrtle switch to explain the finer points in life
So I am not a botanist, jmc
because it was poisonous
my husband got bashed, neck and nose broken for picking a flower... by a big samoan
took me a long time to overcome my prejudice against crepe myrtle
and i never touch an ol8 again
he was dressed like frankenstein and rather drunk, but the Samoan didn't like him pick the flower from the front of the fence outside his yard
Did he pick the flower from the Samoan's wife's hair?
well it did belong to the samoan didn't it?
what a good reason to nearly kill someone hey jmc?
although it sounds like he over reacted
Big Samoan is a bit of an oxymoron
flowers grow over people fences all the time... i pick jasmine along my walking track all the time
i would say it is more of a redundancy uu
I don't know. Mose Tatupu played for the New England Patriots. He was pleanty big.
<---- has ridden a jumbo jet full of Samoans
*imagines uu on top of the jet straddling it like a horse with somoans peeking out the windows*
And yes, redundancy is what I meant, babbling on my phone while watching tv uses up my brain
No, I was squashed into a seat. A plane full of Samoans is REALLY full.
wht . . . Who you wait for but change the last vowel. That clue has me stumped!!
Play called Waiting for Go5, pc
waiting for *****
do you know the play "Waiting for Go***"?
waiting for gomer?
hi ruuster
well goooooooooollleee sarge
hi mr. p
Ok, now that we have all demonstrated our knowledge of Beckett, I am going to before. Night, all!
loljm
you aren't going to kick the Beckett are you UU
see ya sue
got it ... never heard of that . . . thanks everyone. that was fireworks
Gah. Going to bed. Drat autocorrect.
whoo hoo PC!
wtg pcj
(i was wondering before what)
And ruru, have you seen the picture of ms. Bachmann eating a corn dog?
I figured it was an obscure Beckett reference.
Evening all. May I please have a clue for go7-40? Thanks.
what was interesting to me was how the "news" commentators completely ignored the fact that Ron Paul--a man of morals even if i disagree with most of them--came in second
I am nothing if not obscure.
Add Frued's little friend to the middle of the go5 before it.
on ya pc
hi peach
Kind of like my clues, apparently.
Thanks much wht.
Hi peach, and night all, really going now.
Hi there jmc.
surely if there is an okie-doke there is a doke
bye uu
Hey there, uusue2.
there you go again, jmc, trying to apply logic to Enable.
:-) as king and mouskateer you should be able to do someting
You would think. But you would be surprised how little power the King of Babblonia actually has.
firewords
isn't a golen a jewish monster?
wtg wildcat
whoo hoo wild!
End in M jmc
tsk--a figurehead
golem
oh.. no.. I'd need to see that UU
hi mab
it would be even funnier to see her husband eat one.
well spelling has never been my forte
what ARE you talking about ru?
I think that the only reason they sell corn-dogs at the Iowa State Fair is to get embarrasing photos of the politicians.
whos husband. eating what.
oh the corn dog
oh..lol
they have to have something to do with all that corn
he'd probably suck on it anyway
she would not him
who?
mittens romney?
nuh uh.. he would
that horrid bachman's husband?
yes
the gay-converter
definately not Mrs Paul she is a very starched up southern lady
he's some kind of dolt. really interesting new yorker piece on bachmann last week. can read it on line
fish sticks
not sure DOLT covers it enough
no
not even close. but she's the dangerous one.
she is very scary however
well anyone who thinks he can convert a gay person should. . . well my peaceful ways forbid me to say
Well, good night all. Happy Babbling.
night wht
night wht
well as i said the good news is the winner of iowa straw poll generally doesn't win
bye wht
as long as she doesn't make hay with it
hell if she sucks $ from another more viable candidate i think that is a gift from god
here is the picture, ruru (scroll down a bit): http://tinyurl.com/3uq77lf
(so who is surprised that i still support obama?)
*choke*
you know what?? Our entire congress as is the president are all bought..............
there isn't one that can be trusted to do right by the American ppl.
i understand the feeling but i don't agree.
i am losing faith in obama
so am I ruru
ande I had such high hopes for him.
Ron Paul, for example, as little as i like him is as honest as the day is long
but I'm not voting for anyone who sounds like baseball equipment either
obama has done pretty much what i expected him to do
he promised us more war and many of his other promises he has followed through on inspite of a ridiculously impossible congress
.
well he keeps pulling a boehner...
most of Congress signed Grover Norquist's pledge not to raise taxes no matter what.
http://tinyurl.com/2cdst5
hi crystalle
hi all
yeah, as if it were some kind of binding contract
dolts
well congressional members voted in by the tea party people would sign that wouldn't they
who i admire is warren buffet--did you see he came out in favor of higher taxes for himself?
sorry but most of them did......... dumb twits.
yes jmc, he did. but were was bill gates?
agree if they signed that they are dumb twits
give him time--he usually follows buffets lead
I live in Lincoln and he lives in Omaha. I know ppl that play bridge with him.
really, it's so childish. 'i can't change my mind. i signed a, a, a thing.'

hi all.. happy to see it's not a big grid.. just drove 5 hours from Virginia
oh no, but it's not a word anyway. still sorry.
evening all!
i like that he is giving nothing to his kids in his will because they have enough already
hi dorens
did you wave as you passed DC?
i didn't see you
no, other end... Winchester... drove throu WVa , up rt 81
no wonder i didn't see you
hi dan you snuck in!
strust me i would have found a way to see you if i were in dc jm
and hi mab
do u guys think trick scratchies are funny or just mean?
what is a trick scratchy?
hi doren, jmc, dan, ruru, crystalle
hi mab
fake scratchie ticket that says you fave won thousnds
oh a fake lo7/36? i would side on the mean side on that
unless it was pretty unconvincing
lo who?
oh, i get it
who is that in your icon dorens?
i was trying to think of a funny joke to play on my hubby
that one might give him a heart attack
ah well between spouses is a little different but still. . .
i think fake scratchie is men too .....i guess
mean
well lets think of something else
how about turning the sofa cushions upside down?
my sofa doesnt have cushions lol
that's ok. it wasn't that funny.
glue a coin to the floor?
i'm holding my sides in laughter
hello all!!!!
sorry, je.. that's my daughter and her niece (Phoebe) five years ago
where do you come up with them jmc?
hi stid!
hi stid
he has been working away a lot lately. I thought i might stuff some paddding in my shirt and let him think i am preggers. That is sure to get a funny face out of him
but the coin thing i am definetely doing !!!
oh silly, crystalle!
again, potential heart attack
I suck at practcal jookes
i think the coin thing and get some cushions for the sofa and turn them
my daughter wants to put salt in the sugar bowl lol
I don't do practical jokes, one kid doesn't "get" them and the other would be inclined to go too far... although at this age the second would be mitigated by maturity.
That is a great bio, mab. Thumbs up!
i'm not much of a joker myself.
okay, have to head out. see you-all again soon!
*poof*
bye stid
i do not usually play the practical joker but my hubby deserves it lol
once someone put a chunk of snow the size of a boulder on top of my car. it was funny, but probably wouldn't work in australia
once I put olives from a jar in someone's jacket pocket
Cornflakes in someone's boots work well.
my son puts his very realistic fake bugs around the house. He gets a scream out of his sisters and I every time
i wouldn't think so if it were me, neg
i second the cornflakes. jmc, where are you?
uh here
i don't get the turning the cushions
Well that's the idea... if you're playing a practical joke on someone. No, I wouldn't wanna be the target of that either but hey? All's fair in love and pranking. ;)
cornflakes seems mild enough--clearly you are trying to get his attention without actually pissing him off
(it's not really funny)
Exactly, jmc.
i am not much for practical jokes myself
set the alarm clock an hour back
Maybe you missed it mab. But I said "great bio". Makes mine look too mild, haha!
what exactly is your objective, crystalle
its simple, and easy, and always works, but you can't say anything when they get up
i once wrote a letter to a person who had defrauded my client and then got a call from a young woman who asked if i had sent a letter to her aunt
you have to keep a straight face, and let them go about their routine
when i was in college a million years ago, my friends and i worked in a cocktail lounge. lots of practical jokes and chasing each other around with the whipped cream dispenser.
i said i did and she said her aunt was in a mental hospital and her uncle opened the letter and read it an dropped dead from a heart attack
rather drastic je
oh no!
well what can i say i was writing on behalf of my client
i am just saying that pranks should be temperate
that's terrible, but not your fault, of course
there has been a bit of tension in the house lately , he has been working away a lot and my daughter suggested we do something funny to make us all have a good laugh.
i did finally get the money back though
i think maybe we will just have a comedy movie night
you go, j!
well i think the alarm clock may be too much unless he has a watch he can look at too
how about a love note in his brief case?
maybe a laugh without it being at his expense, crystalle.... most of these pranks sound like they could potentially backfire
tinkering with his brakes? no, probably a bad idea.
or if he doesn't have one a love note in his briefs
there lies that homicidial streak,eh?
sorry. bad bad sense of humor
you could get a funny card (or make one)
although, the coin glued the floor is something I am definitely doing at the next family gathering
i once greeted my hubby with paper chains at the front door going up the stairs and when i hear him coming up the stairs i started singing chains my baby's got me locked up in chains
so something to let him know you miss him and want him around
but with some humor
i like that
and then there's always the go to his office in a trenchcoat and shut the door and take off the trenchcoat and there's nothing underneath it
haha dorens
there is a 10 cent piece stuck in the kurb near our house and my kids never stop trying to pick it up
i hope the window is high enough no one can see in
i like that
what about the window washer on the outside of the window??? lol
lol dorens. He works on a construction site! That would give the boys something to talk about lol
hahaha crystalle.. terrific
then a note in his lunch box
and extra piece of candy
(actually did do that once, years ago and 20 pounds lighter)
i think i will just record the kids and i doing the macarena or something silly like that and email it to him
haha how did it turn out (without too many details please)
u saucy min dorens
that is a great idea crystlle
miinx
never kiss and tell
i didn't tell you what i was (not) wearing when my hubby got up the stairs
(i figured that out j, which reminded me of the trenchcoat)
haha!
i still have the chains--we use them on the christmas tree--fortunately my son was not born at the time so he has no idea why i like those paper chains
he never reads this chog, does he????
that's so sweet
nope he found babble once through stumbleupon and immediately recognized it and so left and never came back again
although he has instructions to come and tell you if i am really ill or dead
*sniff* someone just emailed me a pic of my hubby and me
heaven forbid
now that is truly thinking ahead j-- never would have thought about it
g
well between the times we have worried about various babblers it occurred to me to tell him to do that
hi shoos
it is a good idea actually.... i think my kids would figure it out, but who knows?
i got really annoyed this summer talking to people about not spending time on line because they want to talk to their "real" friends
babblers are my real friends along with many people i know face to face
it's funny tho.... there is still a difference.. not that you all aren't my friends, but there is a difference in my mind when I
ve sat with people face to face -- like when i've done online dating in the past... sometimes had fantastic emails back and forth and would have loved it to last forever, but after meeting... the click wasn't there.. not always the same in person
i spend more time with you than anyone else since i quit my job (and sometimes even before i quit my job)
no we tend to be more outgoing online--but most babblers are pretty amusing in person anyway
true
i would NEVER put on my boots and get my whip in a face to face meeting! haha
omg
lol
and i never would beg you to
or jump into a hot tub nekkid
(ru might)
oh ii do that all the time. but it's in my back yard
i want a bathing suit unless it is just me an one guy i know really well
my back yard. very private
50 left will do it for me
see you all tomorrow
5 left.. will persevere
go dorens go
night jmc
anyone have the di7/8?
unhook your oxen dorens
*poof*
thanks poof
the di words have to do with freeing a work animal from its daily wear
oh. jmc - much more succinct
both excellent.. thanks
be back later at flip bye for all
later
and fireworks. night all!
i am not getting the oxen clue :(
*sneaks back in* jesus said: my **** is easy and my burden light
*real poof*
haha
and add prefix but not un
thats what i put and its saying not found in dictionary...its a di word right???
di and to unhook?
yes. to remove the yellow egg part...
rhymes with 'joke'
yes
wont go in as a word
prefix rhymes with miss, but shorter
oh...derrrr...thank you...
some words are just too too odd
hi all, and does it feel like Sunday to anyone else?
May I please have a clue for either of the gy words? Th anks
gy4,8 is old term for a whirlpool. then past tense
or, rhymes with british word for the rubber things on a car
and, wikipedia says it's "any large system of rotating ocean currents"
Thanks much Gwen....still looking.
hmmm, not sure how else to clue it. the rubber clue no good? there's 4 of them on the average car . . .
Thanks anyway, Gwen. Perhaps I can monkey it.
gy + consonant + vowel
are you starting at the bottom G???
(do start at the bottom G, and go up)
OMG, Gwen, no, I was using the other y. Thanks so very much.
ah-HA! 8-D
ooh, finally got all the Ks, and all the bottom-row Gs
hey gwen. how goes it?
hi there BW. oh, i'm hangin' in there. spent 4hrs today at a very dusty house full of 1000 books. How you doin?
We are fine. Getting back into the swing of things. Any fun finds in the house?
almost all crap, but I bought half a carton, and one prize, if I'm right, a true first of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
at least you did not have to buy everything for the one prize. or they just had you in to help clean and sort the good from the bad.
had to take 3 allergy pills to cope with all the dust tho!, bleach
Lonnie takes a bath in Purell in the front lawn when we leave a house like that. Me I have a spider phobia. yech
well, the agreement was that i haul away all the crap, but we ran out of boxes well before the end, so i left behind maybe half of the books, maybe more, so much clutter can't be sure. my car is stuffed with 11 or 12 cartons
sorry to bother but can i have a clue for the in5?
in the front lawn? how rural is your place anyway?
in5, term for a person who is not attached, as to a political party, or a big movie studio
in 5 is a movie with a low budget.
ugh i thought i tried that. thanks.
it's a crisscrosser. i always have trouble with ones that crisscross over themselves
He takes a bath in the front house of place we left. But our house is rural. He and the dogs do mark the property. lol
OH i see now. i was using the wrong i
so back to this outdoor shower event . . .
the one i i was usuing doesnt even have a word lol
howdy! one of the ladies I work with at the September library sale told me today that ONE PERSON had brought in over 30 cartons of books to donate!!
I have offered to come help sort!!
what, no indoor plumbing either? (!)
He has often talked about putting an outdoor shower on the property.
une, that could have been one of us! lol
true! LOL
i had to dump 7 cartons by stealth on one of our libraries recently . . . the charity where i usually take my leftovers, well, their storage is in a lady's garages, and it's full!
Yes we have indoor plumbing we are even on city sewer and water. We do have a well and pumphouse too though. where is this library sale?
often when that happens, it's a relative bringing in books from the estate of someone who's recently deceased . . .
ooohhh, stealth dropoffs . . . wow
yep, the house i was in today, about 1,000 books, and two relatives trying to clear the place out. unusual thing was they seem to have no deadline. usually when i go to a place, they want everything out wihtin 3 days, or womething like that
I am sometimes amazed how relatives donate books that have sentimental value.
book, I now have cartons of Mother's books stacked under a long table with a tablecloth thrown over all!
when I die, I will be leaving about 1000 books to two nephews who could care less about sentiment. They won't care about any books at all.
my mentor in this biz used to be head of the Livonia (Michigan) public library system, and he always advised customers to with too many books to drop 'em off at the public library "at midnight, like a baby"
gwen, LOL!!
(that was after he retired from library and opened a used bookstore, of course)
leave the boks to me joey
too bad you are not closer, or I would.
fireworks
i will care bout them
joey, you should contact your local used book dealer instead
I have my dad's Hardy boys for my nephrew and my mom's and mine Nancy Drews for my neice. I never thought of dropping off books late at night
wtg cosdem !!!! ~~~~~ !!!!!
that's how i had to do it last time. see, if you go in the library and ask if they want, and they say no, it's the midnight dropoff or a bonfire LOL
congrats cosdem
As I am going through things I am sending them out to relatives. I sent my grandmother's engraved rosary to the daughter of my cousin. she too has a daughter and I am hoping by doing that a little will be saved. There are other things too that I have sent all over the country, just so they don't get lost.
speaking of Michigan, my daughter, who works as French language reference librarian at UMich, is being funded by the school to attend the Book Fair in Frankfurt in October
aw, you are at least two day drive away from me, joey, but not quite so far from alabama . . .
uh oh, jealous! lol
then to Paris to meet with 2 book distributors -- her French intern from last year will be her guide!!
what is in Alabama?
so proud of my baby girl! :-)
i would love to do that, but have to overcome my fear of french food first 8-)
there are bookdealers in alabama . . .
It is good that you are doing that now. I have been to many sales where the relatives are overwhelmed and just sell everything. I am jealous Une too
fear of French food? are you kidding?
certainly not kidding. and no dumping on people who have food hangups, please, cuz i'm one of them
not dumping . . .but but but, Frech food is fabulous . . .
I was raised on French Food. Pate and Brie with red wine was my baby food. I have my share of food fobiles too.
yeah, the people at the house today kept asking me about other things: do i know anything about paintings, or little bottle of perfume with the fumes still in, or expired prescriptions, etc
**French
ahhh. I understand. People that you know I would assume? It is funny. My mom used to rag me all the time about things that I have saved. In her things I have found boxes of pictures (unnamed of course) from her youth. And her grade school certificates, and 150 pair of pants, and 57 watches, and 83 hand towels. AND, I wish I were kidding
57 watches, yes! there were a lot of watches in this house, too, little dainty ones, many still in the little boxes
that is too funny....... I think that mom thought it would be cheaper to buy a new watch than to get the battery replaced.
Mother had lots of watches too . . . and I now have a LOT of monogrammed towels, hand towels, washcloths, etc.
i was able to tell them how to handle expired pills, at least, and gave them a lead on where to take the paintings. perfume, though, no idea
I need to find someone with the same intials! LOL
My Mom has been putting names on all the pictures. She has been good about tossing some stuff.
and there were boxes and bags and unopened packages full of nylon stockings. Ew...
Hello all! I'm a pack-rat and I'm sorry for my only "child" (a son) who will have to go through all my stuff when I croak. I' also a procrastinator and keep telling myself to get rid of things, but then I need them or want them...It's hard!
two words: rummage sale
I am a pack rat too. I now have a room filled with crafts, a room filled with books and two rooms filled with furniture and clothes. I am trying.
My neice and nephrew will have a chore too. i sell stuff but I hold onto a lot of stiff too. Rummage sale seems like too much work for me. lol
three words: one-bedroom apartment
I had a giant garage sale when I moved here from the Montreal area and a big old house to my small one. I hated every minute of it.
no, no. no....... rummage sale, yes. One room - not in this life
oh, Gwen, I had to toss a mountain of dryrotted stockings and "footies" LOL
down and dirty sale. price nothing. hold it on the same day as a neighbor, so you don't have to make any signs. lay on a lot of beer (or whatever). be willing to haggle a lot.
i have a scrapbook of the sale/birthday party we had at mom's house when I moved her out of that. It is quite humorous.
We have a 4 bedroom house and a garage and a store and a storage barn and I have managed to fill them all up. and I am still buying stuff. lol
I don't have dryrotted stockings and "footies" though, yuk.
mom had bags of ankle stockings
my mom, too, joey :-)
right now I have to decide what to do about a LARGE item in the attic
i hunted to 2-bedroom when i last moved, but could only afford 1-bedroom. so that somewhat limits my total amount of junque
my favorite - a bucket full of beans that she was going to turn into a picture. that photo is priceless
it's beautiful steamer trunk with the original lining and hangers . . .
Laying on a lot of beer might cost too much to make it worthwhile though Gwen. Yes, I'm cheap.
must have been the age. my mom was born in 1924
Well, I have 53 left in this grid and am too tired to persist.
hey, beer is not required. just plenty of something to keep you going, could be ice water, could be root beer
joey, mine was born in 1925 :-)
Oh sure, as long as it's for you and not your 'customers' haha!
i love those giant old trunks. and antique things in general.
yup. that was it probably, une. depression babies
Lemonade stand.
me too, gwen . . .
I have sold a few of those trunks. They are heavy but make great display pieces. me three
I have my mother's "tired" wicker doll baby carriage -- have a pic of ME in it as well :-)
I wish that I still had the three we had. I do have a cedar chest that my mom's brother made for her while he was in high school - he was older by about 8 years
so, a few weeks back, lemonade stand at a garage sale. two little kids handling the lemonade with 3 grownups watching. little kid number 1 was putting her fingers inside the cups. little kid number 2 licked the spout of the lemonade pitcher. all while the grownups were watching, and doing nothing. YUCK
i have my grandmother's cedar chest :-)
i have a toy dalek 8-)
what is a dalek?
we have the steamer trunk that my relatives used when came over on the boat from Sweden. It still has the tags and is filled with family letters and photos. Things like that should stay with the families.
click on my icon to read about daleks
K. thanks
I have a little dreidel, I made it out of clay...
No I don't really. I gave up toys a while ago.
Evening all...just passing through...wanted to say, "Howdy!"
Pinikula!
Neil!
How are ya doin'?
How is everyone doing?
Not too bad thanks. How are you?
covered with dust, and you?
Shower time!
not too bad and covered with dust...interesting combo
I've been drowning at work...if they come up with one more fiasco that derails my summer work plans I might pull my hair out...other than that, all is well.
bookwoman, your steamer trunk sounds amazing!!!

hi/bye dc ;)
* poof *
It really is amazing for us. Maybe not everyone else. But it does have a lot of family history. I read most of the letters which were written by my great great great grandmother to her husband as he traveled the country looking for work before setlling in Seattle while she stayed with friends in Chicago. If you are in nashville you should drop down and visit. We are around 2 hours south. I just read that an author whose name escapes me is opening an independent store in nashville.
bye une and pini *hugs*
g'night une and pini
omg, how wonderfully forthunate you are to have been able to read those.

take everything out of her room
ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh fire workses!
I am serious... put it all in boxes and lock them away
leave her matress and empty draws.
she has to ask you very nicely for anything, including her uniform for school and fresh underwear
you have a couple of hours... just go shovel it all into boxes and bags
mrp -- I've found my Aussie cousins -- they're in Canberra.
cause THAT is not on! and she doesn't respect you or anything you have given her
going to change icons -- brb
i only left clarinet and clothes and the book she is reading for a book report.
the rest is locked in wardrobe
YAY Gwen...
leave the book for her report, remove the clothes, the bedding, the pillow, everything
I am down to 62. tired...
she can have her clarinet when she asks really nicely for it
I bet ur kids know not to get on ur bad side
if she wants a doona and pillow tonight, she better be nice as pie
crys, it is imperative that you show her who has the control and the sense and that she lives there with YOU, not against you.
(what's a doona?)
a feather filled quilt
a dona is a quilt
oh! we call those comforters.
LOL only just saw the dolphin
crys, I kid you not! take everything out... everything. she will not want to live in her stinky clothes for too long
and if she wants a shower, the towel doesn't come without a loving please!
with her dad being away a lot ltely and her getting her u know what i am willing to let a few things slide but i will not be sworn at by my 12 yr old
