ty, you, too
hi df

I love the 30s! Our temp just dropped with a thud, from about 30 to 18 in one day, and we're promised weeeks of cold and cloud again now. There were only 6 weeks of "summer" this year, and only about 3 weeks of swimmy temps.
its really cold here tonight im cuddled with my snuggie .. i missed my snuggie lol
hello everyone - I hope this one is friendlier than the last!
it is nan :)
mrp -- I don't know how long to be in Sydney -- maybe a couple of days? Then to see you?
went to dr today... officially have inflamed muscles that are encroaching on nerves and sciatic nerve... reason for severe pain in hip area....
hi nan!
hi cybernan yes it is
hi nan
Sydney is vast! I am in the Upper North Shore so you can stay with us for however long you need :)
Dee, I guess that's good news? I mean, not a bone thing...
I thought so, jili... hopefully pain will continue to diminish daily
mrp, please write me and tell me what we should do in Sydney, ok?
u can see koala bears jill and bring me one back :)
there is so much to do!! good lord !! will take you to all the places in and out of Sydney
And mrp, will you be moving to the same general area?

hi df.. where have you been?
hi ruru
hello jilli
hi again!
hi again too -- kidsa all set?
hi mr p.. no sleep tonight?
jilli, i looked at that book eons ago... he wrote facinating stuff for kids!.... 'why' stories I think?
ruru, is only 4.20pm darlingheart... slept well last night though.... was bloody exhausted!
that's good.. you need to be able to rest
it helped that my girlfriend picked me up and took me out to dinner and a glass of wine!
how is the knee now??
kids are now in homework mode!!
terribe
terrible..
I was called into Luke's school today... faced a panel of 6 teaching and aide staff
oh ruuster!! get it looked after baby!! ((hugs))
when are you going to have that surgery, ruru?
between thanksgiving and xmas jilli
jilli, did you get my message about staying with us? we are 35km from the heart of Sydney, but live in the bushlands
Oh boy ruru, such a long wait!
the bushlands?
no I didn't, mrp -- can you send me your current address? And will you be in the d=same area when you move?
I mean current snailmail address
where are the tushlands in Australia?
here he goes...
that's where I'd go... but I'd have to back in..
Quantas: Come to the tushlands.. don't be an ass!
right here baby!!
there aren't any front to the houses there only rears
yes, we are moving to the same area, just away from hillbillie avenue
ruru qantas is strange...doesn't have the u after the q
only my friends use the rear entrance.... it is well known that front doors are locked and back doors open, so friends automatically come up the back
LOL *snort*
mrp...leaving yourself wide open with that .. for ruru
it stands for Queensland and Northern Territories Aerial Services
We'll be flying Air Canada -- 15 ½ non-stop hours
lol dart
oh haar haar!! I mean it!! if you come to my house, and you ring the doorbell, don't expect an answer!
if you are a friend, you know the route to get in!
unlike my late cousin's East-West Airlines which flew north-south in Aus
that airline has been gone for a long time!
that is nothing! straight into Sydney?? we can pick u up
we drive that to get to theme parks for the kids
Maddison is begging to come to your house now Jilli!!
so has that colusin, mrp!
but that's who had a sheep station in Armidale.
your darling son is going to have the comfort of a double sofa bed.... but a comfy one! and you get the double bed. we will sort it all out and you will enjoy your stay! young kids and all!
March is school time, so they won't be in your face so much, but you will luv them
Well, when are you and Maddie coming?
well, we wanted to come in January, but won't know until at least November/December now. Lickety is on the shortlist for the General Manager job in Australasia for VistaPrint
the job won't be open till January
I'm sure we will, mrp -- and Dave is great with kids -- his wife and daugter are teachers
Well, I'll be here all winter -- and we're told to expect a colder and wetter or snowier one than usual, groan.
It will be another La Niña year, boohoo.
really?
So, I am going to make an agreement with Lickety... we move out... put all our furniture in storage, I put Luke and Maddie into an apartment with a friend, and Lickety works from the Mid-North Coast til December. In the meantime, I go to the States and Canada and live off the kindness of babblers and family for a month, then he joins me and get's his training and we find a house
I thought la nina only happens once every 7 years
I would then have the kids come over for 2 months and go to Canada for the Winter
that would save us a heap of money and get our deposit together for a house with lot's of land! and get me the hell away from Prick, Dick and Mole and get me back to my usual happy self!
All sounds good on paper, but how it would work?? don't quite know yet
there is neither this year ruuster. go figure
not here anyway... we are in for the lot!
ruru, you've heard about Climate Change, right? Well, apparently this will be a freaky Duo Niña, said the weatherman.
Also, I could take the kids away for 4 months, from Nov-Feb... that would work too
Wow, mrp -- quite a trip planned! Anyway, mi casa su casa.
jilli, it is going to be freaky! Dad has made arrangements to be off the property because of the duo issue
Mrp, just remember, if you come to our side of the world, your winter is our summer, etc.
thanks jilli!! luv ya for that... and you stay with us ok?? no paying for accommodation in Sydney... it is extortion
boati... we don't have winters... only a cold puff... a good winter would be wonderful!
like snow and xmas!!
and the children are at the age where they would remember forever and luv it
Ya, same here, where I live. Well the occasional freeze, but we don't have a true winter. Just hot, hot desert.
i will get a ticket, return with conditions to change it, at they can submit their school work online. get back in February for start of school after long summer holiday break (here).
thanks, mrp, but we'll probably have to start in Sydney, arriving pooped at 11: 45 am ish and waqnting to see some sights
But it sounds like a fabulous trip, if y'all can pull it off!
ok, will look into accommodation for you... there are no B&B in sydney per say, but there are pubs with accommodation on top.
let me find what you need. Will you have a car whilst you are here??
oh, that sounds like fun!
boati, I would be relying on friends... kids can sleep in sleeping bags on floor with me. we are good for that. just need a roof
I guess we can rent a car for a bit if it's not too expensive -- and remember to drive on the left side!
i can find you a car for about $30 a day
you are a gem, mrp
I know the ropes here jilli, we will work it out, just give me the itinerary you want to do a month before hand, and will do it all. You may have to trust me with some financial stuff, but we are public figures and you can easily look us up. we are not crooked
of course I trust you, silly!
you are friends with me on my new FB name jilli??
Meanwhile I'll do my homework -- we have plenty of time to work things out.
Yes, mrp
ok, i will also help you out with sightseeing the things that people don't get to see!!
if you want to do the harbour bridge walk, or sydney tower observation etc, that is easy to do right here.
mrp, I have an old book my Aussie grandmother gave me for Christmas when I was four--"The Little Black Princess" by Mrs Aeneas Gunn. Have you ever heard of it?
But that book is about Norther Australia.
I won't want to do a lot of walking, mrp, but Dave would, I think.
I like swimming...
Jilli, swimming...surf, pools, rivers or lakes?
I like sea, but not too surfy -- lakes, whatever, diz :-)
no jilli, haven't.
will work it out later jilli. just get over here and can go wherever you want
Well, mrp, it's a pretty old book, and about aboriginal lifestyles around the Roper River in the Northern Territories way back when
I must reread it.
Where in NSW are you, diz?
bbl, husband is breaking everything he touches at the moment... oh boy!
aha -- halfway.
Jilli, about 45 mins south by car from the Sydney CBD
BBL have 3 g/kids to feed and bath
maybe we can all get together for lunch some day or something?
well, bedtime for me -- 104 left but may not have much time tmw. Goodnight anyone ! ... *poof

hi MrP
{{{HUGS}}} ( but i only ave 15 mins until class )
what?
it + female pronoun
hi all
((MRP)) whats wrong
have*
what is wrong, mrp?
(((MrP)))
my dad just called... he is going for by-pass surgery on Wednesday... has been having tests without telling me... so decided to call me tonight to tell me how bad his health was, but that is just the tip of the iceberg
oh know MRP...{{hugs}}
thanks, kje
no!!! i mean...
my brother pulled over on the side of the road this morning in peak hour traffic (feeling strange) and had a seizure
{{MrP}} my Mom went thru that last year. Very scary times
( dad's like to look strong in their daughter's eyes)
We will pray for him,mrp
(((((MRP))))) and (((((mrp's dad)))))
oh shit....
oh MrP ((hugs))
(((((mrp's brother)))))
the other commuters got out and pulled him out of the car and called the police and ambulance... he has been having seizures for about 9 months now
My Mom as well had by-pass surgery a few years ago - its is scary...with advances these days I am sure he will be fine - we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers
they never took his license away b/c of seizures
( here they do)
Hi Everyone, wow double barrel shotgun tonight
the police tested him for drugs and came back positive for cannabis... he is now screwed! license taken away for 12 months and faces court
Hi Lickety
My dad had by pass surgery and his lasted 12 years
Hi Mom, I can say that cause he we say Mum '
when it rains it pours....
whoa - and wowsa - so much at once
( MRP...I have to go to class hun...but class is 1 1/2 hour...i will get back online in 2 hours...will be on fb if you need to talk ok??? )
Hi Boo
he has had an accident only 9 months before and the 'usual' reaction from our traffic and roads authority is to take him off the road for 3 months... that is the law
Love your icon Mom. where did you find it. would love to send it to a friend.
hi lickety
Hi Mom
bye bye ((Carlee))
Hi Peri
Aerate
{{hugs}} to the room...and hi lickety!!
hello Boo and Lickety
Oops wrong box
but he got tested for drugs and is now screwed... he PROMISED us all that he wasn't doing drugs... he PROMISED US!! and he continued... and I mean 6 times a day habit
( got that one but thanks boo)
already had that one Boo
Hi Lickety and 4
Love you all! Thinking about my father in law tonight - health issues pulls him 600kms from his home for possibily forever
I have to go visit my sick doggie in hospital - i will keep positive thoughts and prayers headed your way MrP.
byebye all
lickety and mrp - you are lucky to have each other
bye carlee - have a good day at school
so he tells my dad today, and my dad is going for by-pass on wednesday and needs this like a friggin bullet to the brain
bye bye Wolvie, hope your doggie is home soon
Hi River
I agree, River. ((MrP and Lickety))
and lickety's dad is dying from cancer... it is just so so bad!! can't stop crying!!
I must be off, my mom and I are going shopping.
i am angry! so so angry!! my god I am angry!
Hugs, thoughts and prayers all around
my brother has lied and lied about his drug habit and now he is damaged. damn it!! I don't know what to do!! And Dad is stressed and having his by-pass in less than a week... I am beyond reckoning here :((
mrpresident has her own issues to deal with - she can't walk without a cane or medication and she can't drive, and she has to have another operation before the years end. On top of all that we have to move house and also we don't have the funds to easily do so
i can only ask "Why?"
my brother works in an environment that 'smokes' morning, noon and afternoon... he started having seizures at the beginning of the year... promised he would stop smoking and he continued to do it... he is doing himself so much harm with a young wife and baby to raise. and now Dad?? holy shit! He didn't tell me cause he didn't 'want me to worry about him'... I feel so so bad for what is happening to Dad... and just angry and disappointed at my brother.
mrpresident and I also have a friend of my daughters mother who has 3 weeks to live because all cancer treatment on a brain tumor did not work, the poor woman in her 30s has lost her facilities and is at home in a flithly house on a hospital bed at home. To top it all off, her daughter is telling people she's going to perform sex act in a public bathroom with someone she hasn't met and she is only 13
lickety, why ?? I don't get it?? it is hurting me so deep inside I just can't collect my thoughts
Why? We care - stuff happens - we care
hunny, we have so much to deal with... i wish we could wave a wand and everyone heal :)) but that isn't going to happen :(( oh hunny... how bad today turned out!
it hard to know what to say with all you are going through....just know we are here to support you in any way we can
If i wasnt 16 hours away as the bird flies, I would be there to help
venting - I can feel the fresh air through my residing hair
i just wanna crawl up into a ball and disappear... my Dad is everything to me. God help him and I just want him ok!! And Dad (lickety's dad) is dying from cancer... what the hell is going on?
venting helps, it really does, i just want everyone ok
vent all you need to
I need to get my breakfast....will be back in a bit
w
w indeed
{{{{{{{mrp}}}}}}} and {{{{{{{lickety}}}}}}}
you guys have soooo much on your plates already!!! how awful!!!
like river said, if I could be there, I would
thank you all
sorry to hear about mrp's brother too - I hope this will be the wakeup call he needed, sorry it had to happen this way
good morning everyone

hmmm, I guess you need cream cheese, smoked salmon, onions and capers; then, you'd have a treat, witchy!
they always seem stale to me,prefer my home made crumpets.
Don't forget the bialy -as in Max Bialystock - a sort of oniony bagel
I've never had a crumpet, don't think you could get those here, either\
hi Babblers
oh yes, I forgot about bialys!
... or the Montreal Deli ... or any of twenty places which you can name in Brooklyn
hi aloy
what is a crumpet, actually?
crumpeets are easy to make.but you need a crumpet ring or a small empty can with no ends
are they sweet?
... never found them to be sweet themselfves ... but their great with jam (thus sweet) ... and perfectly messy for kids delight
Crumpets are a cross between a griddle cake and an English muffin. I don't care for them.
if somebody puts some in the pb, I'll provide the home-made jam
hello molly
... consider it done ...
sorry phone, I'll take my smoked salmon with scrambled eggs thanks ruby
crumpets are great dripping with honey
now if somebody would just (mistakenly, of course) type an 8 in the chog.....
you win, witchy
crupets are a mix of strong bread flour milk and yeast and a pinch of salt in a thick batter
how do they differ from what Americans call "English muffins"?
well if I was an alien looking down I'd see an 8 ruby
... start with the he4 meaning to use your ears ... and then start building ... 5,7,8,6
that should read crumpets finger trouble here.
everything is great dripping with honey or, better, honey-butter
They are drier for one thing Ruby, more like American style southern biscuits.
crossy does not like crumpets
... why? ... cause you can't put bacon on them? ...
english muffins are only found in the US,a muffin here is called a scone served with jam(jelly) and clotted cream
omg, ron, my mouth is watering....

Nope, I'm not much for British shows.
Although that was what, ten, fifteen years ago. I'm sure he was better looking then.
It's 6 hours and I guarantee if you start watching it you won't stop until it's over.
I've had so many friends and relatives who started just to keep me quiet and literally couldn't stop until it was over..comes in 6 1hr segments

it was a rescue, they went to the shelter yesterday to ask the people about what would be a good cat with such young kids, and spent a bunch of time playing with this one that seemed suitable, and then went back and took him today. he's a black DSH.
I am currently watching "The Hour" which stars a character also from "The Wire"
what did they name him?
nothing finer than a rescue kitty
7-8 months old, mellow, not afraid of the kids, reasonably interested in them as long as they don't throw things at him...
he was already named kix, and they decided they liked that and will just stick with it.
sounds like a good match and a great name too
we have one called KC..for Kitty Cat because we just couldn't come up with a name

he walked up our driveway at 6 weeks
our shelter names the cats after the nearest street they are found at so you see names like birch, sycamore and wellington
he's my fuzzy boy

I don't know any songs about layers of rock ursh
oh oh, fine rain coming down!
yellow brick road...
well sing the one about roads or lanes
penny lane
that's a good one too
Oops sorry, didn't mean to type that there.
ah yes, that's a cheery one
on the st6 where you live
lol boatierra, it was apt though
there you go! and I loved that show, saw it in New York wow, long time ago, before I even knew hubby
country roads take me home to the place i beeeelong
so many musicals are being revived I really wish they would do My Fair Lady
lol ush! Sing on, gal!
the movie was good too west
lots of road songs
we did see the movie but I would have loved to see Julie Andrews
I guess it works, brick = rock, lane = road :)
just perfect :D
I was looking up lyrics and typed into here by mistake :)
follow follow follow follow
oh west so would I.
we just missed seeing Julie A. she had just left the show, can't remember who replaced her - that was back in l956 or 7
if i am not mistaken julie andrews has given up singing due to a throat problem ??
we sang most of the songs in chorus
long before my time, but I love watching her. We have the classic musicals of her and play them from time to time.
I heard it too ursh what a shame
oops
going to the pb for an afternoon snack
I use to have quite a number of the shows on LP records! my boss gave me one every Christmas
oh how lovely
my late parents in law had a dog called julie who regularly sang to the moon and was promptly renamed julie andrews
my all time favorite is Camelot
I believe she had surgery on her throat and post surgery could not sing.
lol
ah yes, that was a beautifiul one, west
I had all the LP's too
I saw Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady. It was unforgettable.
I get goose bumps when I hear Goulet sing "If Ever I Would Leave You".
<---- a little bit jealous
ah, lucky you Annie
Robert Goulet is wonderful.
ooh annie how lucky
I think I'll order the CD
Yes, I was lucky. Saw Richard Burton in Camelot.
have you always lived in that area Annie?
<------ a lot jealous
flosey to the PB as well :D
Yes, raised in Manhattan and moved to Brooklyn when I married.
I have never been to Broadway
west, maybe one day you will make the trip..
that was my first plane ride, 4 girls from the office flew down to NY for a few days (must have been over a long weekend)
flosey, you must have had a ball.
and that was my sole purpose for going, to see My Fair Lady
I should. Our daughter and granddaughters go quite often
It was worth it!
phantom ferment
it was indeed Annie
thanks for th4 one, jes, grrrrrr
my message to west disappeared
any time, sprite :)
I was saying, next time your daughter goes to NY why not go with th4?

hola kje
hi kj
hi kje are you nice and cool?
Z;
well... I am in sitting in the office at work, so yes
but it is suppose to be cooler out there... should go check
ST
except that would require walking which I am not willing to do until I must leave
First time here. Is there a time limit?
saw 72 this a.m.
I am very excited though... 20% chance of rain this weekend!!!
hi Connective, welcome. The only time limit is that the puzzle is renewed every day at 0.00 grid time
no time limit connective
hi connective..yes you must finish the grid before the clock strikes midnight CST
What's a good score?
so now there are a little over 8 hours left.
grid time is the same as central time in the USA
finding all words is a good score
great news kje hope you get lots more
yes... would be happier if that % chance was higher... but just seeing a gray cloud in the weekend forecast boxes is exciting
Really? All of them?
wish we could have our (threatened) rain for this weekend blow down to you kj - Fall Fair weekend here
Hello Connective, welcome to babble
connective - a good score is doing your personal best - some people set different goals
lots of players do find all of them, Connective, although most of them have played Babble a long time and know a lot of strange words
hi
some like to do it without help, however far they get - others like to hit the halfway point - some just want no blank tiles by the end.... depends on your goal.... many of us prefer to finish it, and there are ways to get help for that like see Lickety's Babble clues below the grid
but on the whole, Babble isn't a competitive game. Most people only compete against themselves.
like... I am going to get help right now (I hope)... clue for th7?
(occasionally some of us race each other, but we are obnoxious)
Where you go to see a show
ah, a fish... ty!
Oh, so that's too easy. I've played about 10 minutes and found 83 words worth 1071.
there are 3 at least... 2 spellings of where you go for a show, and a bit oldfashioned word meaning over***** ** that place.
and alternate spelling for that one kj
got them all, thanks
i cant find any of these 8. sorry cluers. guess i am blind today. have the he 5 but cant get the 8
I have 24 words left to go, just started the list
ty for the help
any clues for tr6 please?
if you are looking for a lot of adrenaline, this is the wrong game, Connective. It is not easy to find all words, but you have all the time you need.
just got the he word. whew.
Mkg, the ea8 is males from our planet
mkg, the he8 ends in a numeral
what lives underground? snakes?
males, in this case, mkg
not so sure... dart usually finishes in 30 minutes or less... for some it is a def race
yeah there are usually exceptions to every rule and dart is one.
neil is another fast one
Hello Babbleonians
hi wht
hello wht
Can I get a clue for the ar6,18?

To some people. everything is competitive.

kje, slap me with a fish on that one.
tr6 please?
I'm not competitive, Molly. Everyone just thinks I am because I always win, no matter what.
lol
: P Jess. And I must say, I have never heard anyone describe this game as "easy".
Hi sprite
hey Boo :)
Clue for the ar 6
see kje at 3.18, Boo
Starting this game is easy. Stopping is hard. Finishing is hard.
3:18 boo, just clued
flosey I don't have it yet sorry
ar6 is behind on payments
they only did 82 words... hadn't gotten to the hard ones yet! LOL
thanks west
hello all. a little more help with the te8 would be greatly appretiated :)
starting is easy, finishing is harder, stopping is almost impossible, lollll
hi debjed, do you know the name of my dog?
nope
te8 ends with an operatic solo
deb, glass enclosure for small animals, plants
or try this: t + to make a mistake + a solo in an opera
ty annie - that helped!

Those eyes! Goodmorning everyone
i think it is wrong to have the words from other languages count.
good :) I have 12 left here. Hey lyn :) xxx
wtg kj, steaming right along there
I love it that there are so many imported words
rock on, sprite!
and many words in other languages arent here. so it is very strange what they consider ok and what they dont.
No, it is wrong to only have random words from other languages count.
it is odd mkg but there are some we use anyway
yes i know. and then sometimes they aren in grid.
ta6 is yoga???
true
i dont know yoga term
re6/7 combo?
I thought they were Hindu books.
yes Molly, a kind of yoga that is based on the unlocking of the bottom chacra energy.

hi Stid
stiddie!!!!!!!!!! *HUGE hug* How are you?
hi stid
I'm very familiar with what ta6 is, and it's a lot more than yoga. Not to belittle King Wht's clue. : )
I am well sprite! well -- had another mysterious allergy thing last night but better now. Still waiting for my first sub assignment, but it will happen eventually. :-D How's the lowlands today?
Hi stid
Hello...
just got second z word. musical. nice.
Molly, my clues are often cryptic enough, I try not to write paragraphs.
not too bad, we even had sun! I hope your assignment comes through soon, and may it be a fun one!
go mkg go!
hey Jellen!
hey Jellen *hugs*
Hi Jellen
ok still dont have yoga word. any clues ? also the re and work again...
So I say something short that comes close to fitting.
often two meanings to many words.... Tantra Yoga was familiar to me, as were the books. The yoga is probably named for the teachings in the books.
it was a perfect clue, wht.
so, hope all of you are well today? lynxxx, haven't seen you in a while, either. Is Spring there yet? Autumn is starting early here...
hi Jellen
it worked, wht - i got it!
Wht, I truly, deeply appreciate the "not writing paragraphs" : )
OOOOps... I think I said the word !! to the PB I go
LOL diane! thanks for the "clue"
got carried away, did I !!..... and I never say much in chat.... see why ???? LOL
lol diane... *giggles*
There you go Mkg...Diane gave you the yoga word. : )
Diane had a better one. But she will have to do here yoga in the PB
re + deserve to get, usually pay for work.
but I can join her with my typo.
diane, ty for word.........................sorry all.
I can't even bend my stupid knees... yoga is next to impossible for me !!
great clue sprite!
hahaha wht
I'll mop the floor.... deal ???
;) stiddie
Try the mountain pose, diane...I can do that...
fi4works
Diane, Peggy Cappy has a great yoga DVD for people with joint problems.
wtg wht!
Hooray, wht!
FW!!!
Hooray for wht!
*puts yummy choclits in PB for wht and diane* I was so glad to find my 1-pound choclit bars with valencia peanuts at Trader Joe's yesterday! Not that I am eating a lot of choclit nowadays, trying to get back into the teacher slacks I bought last autumn.

♫♫ Dum di dum ♫♫ Soodle wanders in, humming a happy little tune. Hi everybody :-)
I have got one O but not the ot***
hi Soodle
The ot5 clue is os4
Ty hi soodle
Hi Boo, Lynn, Wht :-)
Nice to see happily humming Soodle.
Hum louder Soodle
Humming my head off.......... Hi Molls :-)
♫♪♫♪....... (Guess who just learned how to type symbols on the laptop?)
Lovely soodle
☺, ☻, ♥. Ok, enough showing off now!!
Oh trust me Soodle, there has been far worse showing off here than that. : P
LOL Molls :-)
hi all
Hello Carlee :-)
hi ya soods
out for a pint tonight were ya?
( yummm guinness)
Alas no! i am celebrating the forthcoming Arthur's Day. (An absolute brainwave of some advertising exec...)
okay...
i have been setting in a library for 7 hours... with 1- 1 /2 hours to go until my next class
one class from 9-10:30 and another from 7- 10..then i drive home
http://www.guinness.com/en-row/arthurs -day/
Oh, How is school going, Carlee? BTW - I LOVE your new car!
God bless Mr. Guinness.
Or Uncle Arthur, as he is known round here....
so far i LOVE all my classes..tonight is kiddie lit....first class of that..i am always nervous before a new class....wondering if will like it..and i should be done my first of the 20 novels i need to read for it this year by the time class starts...
i have only 5 o6 mmore pages to go...but am sick of just setting here
Uncle Arthur, how sweet. Makes me want to pat him on the head and ask him to pour me a pint.
there is a dinner here at teh college I am at...is drop in....no charge..not srue if will go..amnot a "joiner"
uncle arthur reminds me of bewitched
Kiddie Lit? Whats that?
childrens literature class...is an english class...
Doh! I guessed that, Carlee, but what sort of books are you reading?
i am jsut finishing watership down, i have anne of green gables, the hobbit, harriet the spy, the lion the witch and the wardrobe, sunburt, alice in wonderland, alice and thelooking glass, hmmm....and a few others whose titles elude me atm
And when you are reading them, Carlee, are you supposed to read them from a child's perspective, or are you supposed to look for metaphors and similes and complicated stuff?
i have not had a class yet...
I decided to read the longest one first...and tonight i will see how I am to read them...
this way I can skim this one again
Just like an English class, you can't just read it for the fun of it.
OK! I'd be interested to know what the class involves. I absolutely LOVED all the Alice books as a kid..... The Lion the witch and the wardrobe left me with a phobia about wardrobes for life, and Watership down left me unimpressed.
Anyway. I need to go. Happy Babbling or lurking as the case may be.
Bye Wht :-)
watership down was ok... (litterally 5 pages of it left)...i love anne of green gables...is so fun that is the only one i have read before...
i dont like lewis carrols writing... too many drugs..i cant follow him
When I was a very small kid, my Dad used to read us a book called The Turf-Cutter's Donkey, by Patricia Lynch. I still use that book as 'comfort-reading' to this day. Go figure!
i loved a series by jd fitzgerald the great brain books
My own kids were addicted to An Unfortunate Series of Events, and anything by Enid Blyton.... aided and abetted by their mom!
no..i didnt like that series either...
i wish our class was doing one of the harry potter books ( one class is..just not the one i am in)
Sadly, I read the first Harry Potter book, then saw the movie. The movie sort of wrecked the rest of the series for me.
But, I still envy you.... your school course sounds amazing.
i saw the movie before teh book ( first one)...and then i started reading..and loved them...both...i love the movies and i love the books
Movies of books I have read have invariably never lived up to my expectations/hopes. (I think my imagination is too vivid..... story of my life :-P)
usually the same for me..not witht hepotter books tho
I took out "The Help" on CD and am going to transfer it to my IPOd
All this talk of kid's books and 'comfort reading' is making me want to go to bed with the Turf Cutter's Donkey. I think I will head off. Lovely chatting with you, Carlee..... and the very best of luck with your studies. Good night. :-)
nite nite soods...
bichon... i have the help....but it will wait until reading week..or christmas break
ar5/12 pls
the Help is out on CD?
I read the book and liked it. Hope I like the movie as well
Bich, I listened to "The Help" on CD and loved it.
We saw the movie last week. Excellent!
wait, I want it to be out on DVD so I can see the movie at home
did you read the book Bzz?
I have not read the book.
No DVD release date for "The Help" yet.
Hello all...
hi Jellen
Hey, Jellen.
The Help is still playing in theaters here and pulling in a good draw
Hi, bichon
I think "ferrari" should count...
Hi, stid
I agree with you stidmama ... were they in the grid it would accept "ford", "chevy", "caddie" and "honda" ... who knows how many more ... so why not ferrari?
exactly! :-D lamborghini, too. LOL
... just checking ... but it will take "corvette"
... and "stingray"
stingray is a fish, too -- maybe that's why it would work
... corvette is a class of naval ship ... they did convoy duty during WWII ... but somewhere ... somebody ... has found another use for the word ... Ferrari
*grin* I found a dried-up skate at a flea market last weekend. Was thinking about putting it in my "substitute" kit to show to kids if they got out of hand... nothing like a "space alien" looking thing to impress teens and pre-teens!
well, ferrari I think is Italian for iron-maker or railway worker. *goes to look*
hm. can't find it. too scattered in my thinking, perhaps.
... hey ... there are enough French words in some grids to keep Rubyfoo happy ... ... why not some Italian ones? ... ... though I'm of Welsh extraction and shouldn't complain what with cwrth being acceptable
"ironworks" so I was close.
I like crwth! LOL
... I saw it in the Scrabble dictionary about 30 years ago ... and finally got to use it here last week ... small thing but it made my day ...
:-D
What is a crwth? Musical instrument?
... yeah ... I was told it's a stringed instrument like a lute ...
Hi everyone!
Hi Car!
yes, the w is a vowel in Welsh, makes an oo sound like booth (bwth)
hey car!
It is nice to see the evening "crew"!
it is nice, yes.
one more and I will be down to 80 and then taking a break again...
How are you Jellen? And you stidmama?
hoping the younger stidkid caught the school bus home today, had picked him up so far every day this school year! LOL (took today off)
I'm okay, car...
I hope he makes it home Stid!
Good to hear Jellen!
although the ... makes me think you are only OK and maybe need a hug?
sh6/30?
Hugs are always nice!

Crap! Storm knocked out the cable....again!
rofl ruru
it's 30 degrees F cooler here today than yesterday! I was shocked when i opened the door.
:D
it's been novercast all day, but no rai.
hello, bea, stid, ruru, eeyore, et al
okay, down to 79. going to be responsible and fold some more laundry. (((hugs all))) (no rai in this locale either seain, but it sure feels like it wants to!) *poof*
hi dc
rai? kje over at your house?
Hi, ruru and dc
not today, she's not. We still have standing water from last week's floods, so more rain is not needed here.
hello, jellen
hi jelli
jellen.. oh boy
Hi ruru, dcseain and bzznbea!
hello car.
Hello, car.
I feel like I should almost be done with this grid....but I am not!
do you think the as 6 guys are into butts?
if anything, they might make soap.
:-P
Oh! Made it to halfway!
Hooray!
I feel like such a douche for missing the en 5/12
LOL! TY ruru!
LOL!
I wonder if Babbette found the fe 5/6 combo
Thanks, ruru...just got those...
Hey, does anyone know where my squirt bottle is?
No one around he** seems to have any idea where it is, so I thought I would ask y'all instead!
Oh! Thought is was a clue...Sorry...Mine's by my bed. It's used for cat discipline.
I'm getting my is and it confused today!
whoa.. S&M kitties?
S kitty...
A squirt of water in the face makes him at least think twice before attacking my foot again...
*Wonders about asking the correlation between spray bottle and cat discipline*
Good for you Jellen. So many people don't discipline their pets at all.
are we talking about pussy-footin?
It's very difficult to discipline cats...especially ones as stubborn as my Toby.
That's usually what I use mine for as well...but tomorrow is picture day and Zach will need to have his surfer hair sprayed down in the morning!
Hello Molly!
And hi again, Molly
Brb...gotta run downstairs for a bit...
Bye Jellen! Good to see you!
phantom: fenestrate
phantom: Asthma
good one ruru!
Oh I had to use something more substantial than water for that or the hair was back up again by picture time.
I better go find it...maybe I will just stick his head under the sink and wet the whole mop down...
hi again, all, need I say that today was another busy day?
my son's half sister is visiting, and they are out to dinner.
Hello

Good Evening Everybody. How are you all tonight? And how are you finding the grid (not that it matters, I just started and am curious if it's an easy one or not. I probably won't finish it)
hi, nef!
it's not too bad
and hello
hi sue and gremlinn
Hello...
although it's a bit tricky to see which words start on which tiles, up at the top
Hi Jellen. gremlinn; I'm finding that out already!

hi everyone! Nef, the top row is tricky indeed.
Hi Nef
oh, the little red biting bugs must be fi** + ***, I just saw the possibility

hi Nef, Jellen, and bugs
LBD! haven't seen you in a while
how are you lbd? I haven't seen you for a while
I'm hanging in th5. been busy closing the bookstore, and now i'm unemployed.
Sharia - is that the spelling?
Oh, I didn't know that, lbd...so sorry!
The bookstore near where I live just went out of business, closing two days ago.
98. listing
was it a borders, gremlinn? the corporation went bankrupt.
Was yours a Borders too?
are you okay with being unemployed, lbd? Borders company went belly up and they all closed he4 too
oh no. Unemployed is horrible!
yup, only a few still open thru this week. have to be done by the end of the month...court ordered.
Yes, mine too. I went there on the next to last day for the sale, but there wasn't much left but the furniture and equipment which they were selling off too.
oh, that sucks, lbd.
I just quit my job and retired last Friday myself. So far all I've done os lots of housework!
Iam so sorry lbd.
Unemployed is the pits, but i start teaching monday, so i'm not totally broke, just mostly.
congrats, nef
congrats on the retirement, Nef!
thanks, seain
I first heard about it through a news story "Champaign Borders To Close Next Tuesday" - at first I was shocked, thinking we were being quarantined.
We took holidays in the USA this year because our dolllar was stronger but we were shocked by the number of closed businesses and houses up for sale
i've been doing a lot of "downsizing", cleaning out stuff th4's been piling up.
lol grem
it broke my he*** to see how much you are all struggling
thanks, bugs. it is sad to see so many businesses closing their doors. bad economy, bad management...
11 left
go grem! although i'm surprised you aren't already finished.
no list today, plus I usually don't have much time until after work these days unless I stay up late
new grids used to start at 10 PM my time, which was perfect - now it's midnight
midnight is sleeping time

hi all..may i have a clue for te7/8pls?
YAY, cos!!! WTG!!
first te7 = more in a crying state
wtg cos
er, te7/8 i assume is a pair?
second te7 = homophone of another te7 (not in puzzle) which means the geography of an area
I may have made an incorrect assumption
te8 after that shares the same first 5 letters
they're not *directly* a combo, no
grem a pair implies singular plural
***sneaks in and hugs LBD*** *bakes a three-tier choclit cake with choclit pudding filling between the layers and fudgy choclit frosting with choclit candy sprinkles on top for NEF's retirement*

dawg can you please clue the final two te words?
it's the same veterans basic computer class, stid.
LOL hey feather!
i fell asleep around 6:30 tonight, grumbly tummy, and was woken up an hour later by Nick saying "mom, will you put me to bed?"
oh, that's cool! I am so glad you are still doing that LBD
hello stid!! just noticed you arrived
take the te5.10 and add half a hawaiian goose for the 7
2
how's the grid?
how nice he still needs you featherbee
the te8 is te5.10 with where you ate lunch in school a cafete***
lol, he's 4.
Hiay Feather!!

sorry about the job, though. didn't realize you were part of my favorite bookstore chain. VERY upset that it's gone away. I really don't like Barnes and Noble - too stuffy and dark and "respectable." Our local Borders had interesting, fun, helpful and friendly staff. The B&N doesn't.
hey Bugs!
b&n are very ultra conservative. stuffy comes to mind.
go gremlinn go!
*holds breath for gremlinn's big finish*
I have to get up soon and start supper. Just spaghetti tonight, but that's a good, satisfying meal.
Hey stid! Thanks for the cholit cake!I just died and went to heaven on the sugar rush! :-)
they like college/university towns, so there's no way we'll get one up here. we are currently bookstore-less
LOL Nef!
how's the hip?
are you subbing now, stid?
fireworks unaided
that sux, LBD I can't imagine a town without some sort of bookstore. Maybe we should start one for you! :-D
YAY gremlinn!!!
whoooo hoooo GREMLINN!!
fo 6/42 my last - kind of obscure
I am in awe, gremlin
Hooray for gremlinn!
well, I am not yet officially on the list, but I am in the process. It takes them quite a while to work through the stack, I guess.
my hip is doing great; all healed up and incision has shrunk to about 3 1/2 inched long now (in 7 weeks)
thanks for that FO word, gremlinn
well, we have target and costco, but no real bookstore to speak of. the closest would be 120 miles south...and it's a b&n
woo-hoo Nef! That's nice healing, indeed!
YAY, gremlinn!!! WTG!!!
thank you. sorry i got distracted
wow, nef, you're a fast healer
ick. no, target and costco don't really count as bookstores, much as they would like to be. Same with grocery stores and similar.
last sh6/24 plz
yw. TO was worried you didn't see or get them
okay, Tom is home and I need to get cracking on supper. ((((Hugs everyone))) hope you-all have a lovely day tomorrow! *poof*
Bye, stid
did I say HI stid? I am sorry but I am losing track of things since school has started and they keep changing where and with whom I work

hi **jellen** !!
hi mrp
mrp!!!! How are you doing??
ok i really must go, good luck to all and mr p i am on im if you so desire, at least for about 5 min
hi nef and sue! **hugs** doing ok thanks
thanks owl... luv you. just have to get daughter ready for doctor... brb
daughter is off to doc. I am back to babble :)
hi again, mrp!
hi sue! how are things hun?
I am going to list just so I can get half way - how pathetic is that???
really busy but I suppose that is good...
my son's half sister visited this afternoon on her way from Montana to Massachusetts (or something like that) - he had dinner with her but didn't want us along (which I can understand) so we didn't really spend much time with her
sue, i am struggling along too with the grid
well I am exactly half way. so there :-)
so your step-daughter? and son had a good time?
hmmm, stepdaughter? maybe - his dad (my ex) is her dad too. We haven't spent much time with her - her mom left her dad before she was born (smarter than I was!!!)
I think they had a good time - they all seemed happy - but he had to dash off to work, and she got back on the road.
and now I am one over half way, going to go put my feet up. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you, mrp - my email is in my profile, and you can always send me a message on facebook
wow! difficult ex
thanks sue... am just absorbing stuff today. don't know what else to do
is something else going on, mrp?
hi nef :))
I have the zi9, but can't find the other z word. Any help would be appreciated.
musical instrument src
an old fashioned musical instrument
thanks, Glan and Bugs
Thanks all!
I feel so much better having the z words finished. :)
dad going to hospital on wednesday for a bypass
Back...Oh, mrp!
oh, no, mrp!
idiot brother had a seizure again (yes, it is his fault) but this time police involved and he has lost his license for at least 12 months.
dad only told me late last night.
Pick the best hospital and surgeon available and he will do okay
Where do you guys find the list of the hints like zi43, etc.? I used to know where it was, but don't recall.
he is going to st george, is a very good cardiac unit there
scrof :) go to friends of babble at the bottom of grid and click on lickety's clues
Thank you.
that's good. Re: your brother; if it was his fault that he had the seizure; maybe losing his license will be a wake up call for him to straighten up
brother has lied to dad... i am so disappointed
why is he seizing? Drinking or not taking meds or???
nef, he is so screwed up with dope... he works in the same place for 10 years now cause all they do is smoke morning, noon and night. He has had a wake up call 3 times now (serious ones) and still won't stop
I have never heard of dope causing seizures
he needs to move jobs and get a f'ing life that protects his wife and 5 year old
bug... he has been smoking heavily for 20 years
is his wife in NarAnon?
sorry Narc Anon
his wife won't deal with it... she avoids it
how sad
that is sad. She should leave him then
he hasn't had alcohol for 3 months, but still smokes dope and cigarettes like an idiot teen! She won't leave. She loves him. He can do no wrong and he manipulates the situation
after our 'lunch' in June, I wrote him a polite but firm text and told him I was done with his behaviour.
Hi. Mr Pres all you can do is cut him off. Tell him you will be there for his wife but he needs to sort his sh*t out
Told him to stay away
my goodness, mp - never a dull moment in your family. My father had bypass surgery twice, some 30 years apart, and he's fine. Bypass is practically routine these days. Your brother should see a neurologist - seizures are serious whether he's using or not.
Hi herin and mab
I saw him a little while back, he walked up to me and just said my name with no emotion... I told him to walk on, walk away, do what he is best at and ignore it all
mab, they can't find anything wrong... the docs just can't find anything
hi jelllen and all.
his habit is the problem in their eyes.
I have lost friends to drugs (as in had to leave them)
yeah, really in neurology it seems diagnoses are more like guesses. It's really too bad about your brother.
i lost a very good friend to same... he died 12 years ago in April at the age of 33. chronic smoker too... and my brother looked up to him so much
if David's death wasn't a wake up call to all of us, I don't know what was
you would think having seizures would be dramatic enough to make him change..
Does your brother have a death wish? I'm just feeling so bad for his child right now....
indeed mab. i think he has a death wish... he is stubborn and depressed
snap nef
self-medicating
yep, that is exactly it
my brother had alcohloic seizure 3 times before he realized he can NEVER drink again... He's now been sober 2 years; but he's also 59
Nef, how are you holding up?
I'm doing good. Quitting work and retiring has really helped
Is aunty still with you?
i just feel for dad... he is having to worry himself sick over my brother. and i didn't tell dad that he lied... spared him that detail
Yes. She's pretty much full cares at this time
mrp, maybe your dad should know that your brother is lying
has brother ever been to rehab, mp?
Nef, do you have Hospice coming to help with auntie?
hospice is a lifesaver
I hope you're not feeling stressed, nef. But I see you are a nurse. I'm so sorry your husband has such an awful disease... I haven't looked at your profile for ages and only remembered that you're in my home city. Congratulations (I think) on your retirement.
I agree crossy
Hospice is involved. So far we've been able to do most everything ourselves; but we know they are available
no mab, but i will talk to dad... he needs to go
Does your local Council (sorry I have no idea what the USA version is) have home care help. People that come once a week to clean
(((nef))) ! so much on your plate!
Mr Pres sadly you can't make someone change unless they want to. You guys need to show him rock bottom.
ha! am checking the local court listing... my brother did indeed lie.
i am showing him rock bottom. my back is turned on him, but dad and I struggle to help
But does he see that as such are as punishment?
people often cycle through rehab several times. Sometimes it finally clicks for them.
one thing you can't do with an addict is reason with them... he has every piece of bullshit 'evidence' that nothing is wrong with smoking pot... there is no reasoning
and to top it off, his bosses at work SELL him dope!! have been for years! and he works in that environment daily!
I want to report them to the police, but it will put my brother out of a job... they just got a huge mortgage 4 months ago
Personally I don't see drugs as a problem unless they mess with your life
and I just found out the name of the place he works at
do I do it?? do I??
I wouldn't mrp. The mortgage is probably insured and all it will do is alienate you from you brother
bug, he is already alienated... he did that back in June... in a bad way too
that's a hard thing to decide. you know him, but the thing is, you can't really save someone from what they do to themselves.
what about you nephew and his Mum then?
i smoked weed for 20 years,i drank heavily for 25 years i smoked cigarettes for 25 years..money does not make you reconsider, legality does not make you reconsider ,it take a major upheaval in your life,a divorce,a financial ruin, being so hooked that you shake and cry between your next fix,and then right when you are at your lowest and have lost it all, only then can you recover.you need someone to offer you a rope to haul you ot of the pit that you dug for yourself, shovelfull by shovelfull..i have been there
right crossy.we cannot help those who do not want help but if we keep the door open, when they want help they know where to come
i hesitate to say hi all after that, but hi all
you must keep the doors open
Hi Book
hi Gwen
howdy gwen
hi gwen.
a good heath scare does wonders also
health
this guy is having seizures, crossy.
i got cancer 3 times, sometimes it takes a stronger message'
too true crossy. I worry about my husband with diabetes he ignores but until he gets scared, all I am is a nag
from which he could die, if he's having grande mal.
people who have seizures can't remember having them and don't realize how frightened witnesses can be. They are easy to ignore
but he certainly knows he could easily suffocate during one.
nothing like a good beating from the cancer stick to make you rethink cigarettes or weed
see,you reach the point where there is no waffling or justification,or excuses..you hjt that wall and you either do it or die
i've seen way too many patients come out on the wrong end of that deal... it's horrible to see.
horrible because it often takes a long time and one sees the decline...
it is devastating isn't it mab
heart-breaking, truly.
i am fortunate in that i was given a chance..cancer is deadly, but cancer is also a means to fix your life.it strips away everything that is petty and unimortant.it allows you to bring your life to a focus and to decide what is needed in your life and what is not.you learn that money means nothing without health.material possesions mean nothing without the love of family and children
sorry, but of a bummer, but it is the bare truth
no, I think your honesty is just the thing.
nobody can know that road, really, unless they've walked it themselves.
I wish mrp's brother could hear your words crossy, but even if he were here, he probably would not
like i say,a person can tell an addict all these thing, but untill they live it for themselves, they will not act on it
you are bullet proof till you get shot
and crossy is done holding forth lol
te8?

hi min :)
would that i had known 'usquabae' ere now...
I suspect it's one of the few words with a spelling designed by someone under its influence.
Wi' usquabe we'll face the devil.... And that verse has 'unco' as well.
I was just reading that on Wikipedia.

oh, are/have you been a realtor?
No but a good friend of mine is...good times and bad times.....but always fun
:) yes, awkward time of year to be going into it, but i figure i can find some part-time something to tide me over.
thats right...that is what she did too...and still does...one you get your license..you never give it up just in case....
yes, i've heard that maintaining the license is important and useful.
its too hard to get it/passing the test..you never give it up..just like me with my adjusters license...will pay that fee every 2 years...but will not let it go
