So you have to gain the most points of anyone at your table, by entering the most high-scoring words you can see. I only play "fives" in that game. That means I'll only enter words 5 letters in length or more... because they're worth so much more than smaller words, it's a waste of time entering small ones.
in TW, you did get an extra point for finding a word first.....1 pt for a 4 letter word...2 for 5....3 for 6 letters, etc...and the extra for finding it first
and some of us don't like to race, just take our time and do it leisurely, enjoying chatting with other players.
nobody is forcing anyone to race...or do icon themes..or chat or anything as far as I know

I will not use Facebook, jilli. I'm just waiting [and can't wait] to get rid of my account on there. I thought I had deleted it but that didn't work! I had another dog with the same closeness He was an alsatian, ex police dog and I still miss him. His handler got divorced and I was asked to look after Duke for a 'couple of weeks'. His new wife had 4 young children, so difficult, and I kept the dog. What a star he was.
I like avoiding nasty diseases, lol.

Our dog Porsche was an Alsatian. We got her from our former neighbor before he moved back to Ireland. She was a terrific dog.
I always said I didn't want a small dog but I acquired Holsten, part collie/spaniel red like a fox and same size, when my daughter and her husband went to live in the South and were renting. He was a cartoon character and in danger of being shot for a fox! There were other dogs but some do stand out.

I prefer them to be dogs not fashion accessories. It maddens me when I see them in handbags for no good reason. An old lady nearby did eventually have to take her small dog to necessary places ie vet, trims, in a bag but that was not through choice as the dog had a walking problem. She let him go before it hurt too much and we cried for her.

And ressing them up. Ok, I can totally understand a winter coat on certain breeds in cold climates, sure. But some people put clothes on dogs and other fashion accessories for no reason... ribbons in their hair, etc.

The fox-like dog was my husbands first canine pet. He and Holsten formed a gang. My 6' plus husband and this small very fiesty dog were perfect together. And hubbie was shocked at his own feelings when H died.

Neil, I fell out with a friend who had decided to adopt a rescue dog and proceeded to pop it in a basket and 'walk it'. The crunch came when I found out that it lived in a cage, one outside and one inside, whenever it wasn't on show. I told the vet, who called the rescue centre and they re-rescued it. It needed attention. I told her, none of this was behind her back. She and hubbie now have a proper dog and love it!!!

PS The friend now has a cat but the difference is the new hubbie who doesn't indulge her and she's a nicer person all round now. WAIT WHILE SHE HAS KIDS!!!

I suspect it does, trif; ours are dropping their leaves really fast this fall too - we had lots of rain in the spring, then a really hot and dry (although humid) summer, then a cool wet September (now it has been hot again). I think our trees are as confused as the rest of us :-)
I had a terrible crop of tomatoes this year, that is for sure. some of the vines did not set even one fruit
we had alot of fruit but all plants were rather short...didnt even go over the tomato cages
our garden was a real non-event this year - got overgrown really quickly in the spring and then dried out in the summer
we did get a couple of very nice winter squash growing in the compost bin, though :-)
mine too uusue. and I think I was a bit overambitious with plantings, and a bit under aware of how much I would be working.
my carrots are tiny...must have been too wet....gotta love compost
so I will try again next year.

we compost as well and put down horse manure twice a year. We did have a banner crop of potatoes this year. We do them above ground in those round bins....you start with very little soil and keep adding as the plant grows. So much better than in the ground with the critters eating them

My pathfinder needs a whole new front end bumper thing. It's not covered by the warranty, and my neighbor was saying he bought a new bumper for his truck off craigslist and put it on with zip ties and such. what do you think?
i have seen it done,but it is a quick fix at best.i know too many friends ripped off on craigs list.you are better off going to a wrecking yard to get a front end,then getting it affixed correctly at your fav mechanic shop

those plastic bumper covers we all deal with now have special fasteners and and it is best to get it done right first time

thanks -- the arm is getting better, but as usual when I "push" it sets me back. I am learning patience the hard way. On the PLUS side... I have been getting a lot of training time in for subbing, too. And it really helps me when I go in to classrooms.

For us, the season this past year was so uniform that I keep looking around for summer but realize it is time for Halloween. So, I got out the decorations and bought new orange towels with pumpkin faces and candy corn themes.
i used to decorate for all the holidays, my back is not in good shape now so hitting the attic for the decorations is not in the gameplan I have candy corn towel envy :)
When I saw the candy corn towel, I was like a kid in a candy store and was ready to buy it at any cost. It was half price.
ooooh very hard to resist half price. I have to restrain myself from buying new each season thus alleviating the need to go into the attic for said decorations.

We don't have an attic. We have storage under the eaves and the doors are easily accessible. When I retired from teaching, I purposely did not bring home all possible holiday decorations.
We are being told our winter will be like last year's winter. Snow, cold, storms. So I bought a new popcorn popper. I think we're ready.

best way to keep a fire going in the rain is to have a good base of coals,and set up a longer log on a line of rocks about 2 feet high and as it burns you can feed it into the flames..you can get flames very high this way
