That is really sucky - especially when the premiums are so high to begin with. We paid 20K in prem last year, and our coverage gets worse every year. Obama's plan is certainly not the answer for us, but there has to be a better way than what is offered now.
We like our Canadian system.
Aging of America is killing us medically speaking and insurance wise (and coverage)....
But we have a lot of Canadian docs in our county who came here to practice... so there are issues even there. I really don't know what the answers are...

Canada's waiting time for gall bladder surgeries is almost 4 x longer than here... I want great medical care for less $, and I just don't think that is possible any more... worries me for my kids and grandkids.

Dee, it depends where you live in Canada. Each province has its own system but all have universal health care -- no bills for surgeries or doctors' visits or the nursing care I've been receiving for 4 months.

Dee, I have no idea the % of taxes got to health care. In BC we pay a monthly $64 premium -- other provinces just use taxes and have no premiums.
I was just curious...not free, so someone is paying, so it has to be funded by taxes somewhere.

Well, ru, I hope your pain settles down, as well as your stress level. Thanks for the chat; I hate that you are going through same thing, but it's nice to know it's not just us. I guess the Bible's comment about not worrying about tomorrow is good advice - take one day at a time...otherwise, stress will do us in.

we were just at school getting set up with a 504 plan. he's jr in high school, has had diabetes for 10 years and only now is anyone suggesting a 504.
if it's any consolation, my son failed physics twice - is now taking it the third time, with me (so he can't fool me into thinking he's in class when he isn't)

it's mostly due to emotional issues on his part - struggles with depression, and also time management
and I'm not sure what a 504 plan is (is it like an IEP?) but it sounds like something he should have had all along

yes with a 504 he can get stop the clock testing on timed tests like the ACT and AP tests
i guess when someone saw he got a 6 on the practice ACT that maybe there is an issue there.

I pay a small fortune in gasoline these days -- last time I filled up the van almost $70. I hate that it takes almost an entire's day pay to fill the van with gas. Can't afford to buy a more efficient car! Can't afford to save toward a new car when the gas takes it all. Carpooling with Tom as much as possible, but sometimes my work is the opposite direction. Just wish I could count mileage against taxes, but I don't think I can.
