I guess there are several of us keeping up via Caring Bridge
Well, they both are getting a lot of love and prayers, from this group. What is Caring Bridge?
It's an online website that you can sign up for that people can set up accounts to share their storeis
*stories
It's a great website where you can receive updates about someone you care about, posted by a family member or close friend. Google it.
Great idea, when friends are all-over the world.
Feel really connected to uusue as harp and I met up with her in Missoula when she was traveling out to the west coast babble meet
Frank was not feeling well then..
JJ, she stayed with me in August when we had a meetup at Bugsaw's. She came to my place on her way home.
I remember...I was jealous she got to meet you...I really MUST get a passport!!
Yes indeed, JJ!
Although most of us complain about the amount of time we spend online, it does give us a chance to "meet" people, away from our locale.
I don't complain about my online time -- I love it.
Well, this is a pretty special group!
Hi all!!! NBT/NBS
I often find I've been on line much too long, and it's 5 or 6am before I get to bed. Good thing I'm retired.

Hi Alta - back later - sleep well if I don't see you before
I really shouldn't do this when I get home from work. Think I go brain dead this time of night.
How did Mitch know that ad5 word so fast? I just found it via morewords -- never heard of it before. It's "an inner shrine".
I guess I'm not churchy enough.
did he already get done? lol
Oh yes, alta -- Mitch is miraculous.
no kidding
No kidding!
Weird word ..

hi
have just finished prepping for the big day tomorrow
a little sit down dinner for 32.. to celebrate thanksgiving and my borthday
and birthday even
happy birthday:)
wow s'mom, that is quite a feast, and happy birthday to you
you must be ready for sleep
happy birthday, s'mom. can i risk the big question? how many years young are you?
thanks ... i will be 18 again (fourth time around)
well done you, s'mom.
hey, flosey. have finished my 3rd 6 hour day in a row. i'm pooped, but happy.
Hi again - happy birthday s'mom
Rose you just answered my next question!
i still have the energy that i had then.......... if i could only walk like i could then............. heh heh
lol, have to stop reading each other's minds.....
lol, s'mom. can so totally relate to what you are saying.
thats it for me tonight. gl all:)
liz, have started sleeping right through the nights, hun. didn't think it would ever happen again.
Gnight Alta
night, alta. sleep well, hun
That's so good! Wish I could!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good night alta
i get my 5 hours of sleep and off i go again
hi -- back from a break -- glad you're getting that sleep, granny!
s'mom, i use melatonin during the night....gets me another 3-4 hours
hey jilli, thanx.
Where do you get melatonin? I've used jet ease for jet lag but it doesn't contain melatonin.
I was using melatonin too , for quite a while -- just stopped, wonering if it was contributing to my digestive problems lately.
liz, at the chemist.
i have some ut don t use it......... i find that a good book sets me off ... and a 20 minute power nap in the afternoon works wonders
didn't think you could get it over the counter! might try it!
Guess it doesn't help doing cryptic crosswords with hubby before going to sleep!!!
Here you can't get it over the counter, must ask the pharmascist for it.
you can get it otc in the states , liz... is it an rx there?
Can't get it in UK - at least don't think so ... haven't tried here!
liz, bioglan make it. and jilli, melatonin is a natural enzyme our bodies make to tell or bodies it is time to sleep, and slow don it's functions.
Hi rose, was out for a few minutes, well done, now a couple of days off?
I know, granny, but had to try eliminating something to see what was triggering or contributing to the problem.
Back soon - got to go to hairdresser for her to colour bit of hair she missed!!!!
bfn liz
lol, is that what you call it? hydro at 0730 tomorrow, washing etc saturday, my vicar wants me to lead 2 church services over january and february, and my own mother is being very naughty.
later perhaps liz
oh wow rose, naughty mom, that's a switch eh!
what did she do that was naughty?
well not really, flosey. i have managed to hand-ball it all to my bros up til now.
jilli, meals were bought for her, both frozen and tinned(gourmet stuff), and she refused to eat anything or drink much for 10 days(at home). says she wants me to take care of her. my bros certainly won't. and i simply cannot.
well, under the circumstances, perhaps bros could stay with mom's problems for a little while longer
no, you can't rose, you still need to look after yourself
That really is naughty. REmind her she's lucky not to be alone (without nearby family) like me.
is she ready for a care place?
lol, flosey, i know. maybe it is selfish of me...but i realise if i don't do this, i will fall apart completely, and be no help to anyone.
It's selfish of HER, granny, not you!
it is not selfish rose, you must first look after yourself
flosey, if you could only hear her...she sounds like a small child...she puts on this act of innocence, and begs the listener to answer why don't her children take care of her.
hmmmm, does sound a bit familiar
all of us suffered at her fists, and whatever else she could lay her hands on. we were all beaten as kids, and my bros earliest memories are of me standing between her and them, taking the beatings meant for them.
after Dad died, mom came to live with us through summers, then back south - lived in a gated community on the desert in Nevada, loved it and was fine alone
granny, that's awful!
then bro-in-law decided it was their turn to have her come live with them
oh wow, rose, that's dreadful
granny.. i hope you have the strength to put her in care and not take her on.......... you deserve to have some peace
jilli, that's what older sisters do...protect their younger sibs.
understand rose, but still you must have really taken quite a beating
I was an only child, granny. But you don't owe that wona anything.
s'mom, don has put his foot down. we took her in for 4 weeks after she had surgery on her hand/wrist. he saw what she did/said to me. he will not allow it to happen again.
*that woman. I'm so upset at the thought of her that I couldn't even type the word.
good for DON
Let her refuse to eat what she's given. Don't give in.
good for don... listen to him......... take care of your husband and hyourself.
she'll get hungry eventually
i hope you no longer have any doubts as to how wonderful he is....
no doubts here, you just listen to him
Who ever had any doubts?
look after yourself first, you're also back working, you can't handle anymore
anyhow, the aged care team have moved in, and the eldestof my bros has stood up to her and them...told them i am already taking care of a geriatric, and all of them work.
does your mother have a doctor who would suggest a nursing home for her
she soulds like a spoiled child and from what you say she has always been a selfish person.... i am not in favor of ignoring our elderly parents however.. it would seem that you reap what you sow and she has not been very nice to you or your brothers..... she willl porbably do quite wqell in a nursing facility in spite of not being able to abuse her own children any longer
she is currently in her local hospital, soon to be moved to respite care, having already had 2 weeks of rehab.
i pray that iw works out well for you
same here.
yes, ditto
thanx, s'mom. and jilli and flosey. you are wonderful peeps...i worry as when my father lay dieing, he laid it on me to take care of mum.
darn, dinner ready...and don gets anxious if i'm not ready to eat. lol. see you all later
but it's time to let go rose, even your father would agree that it's time for a care facility
You have been taking care of her but I'm sure your dad wouldn't want you to harm yourself either.
enjoy dinner with Don
and seeing that she is in a safe nursing care facility is what she needs..
and it is what YOU need for your own peace of mind and well being
ggetting a little sleepy and mave binchey is waiting for me........ good night all
goodnight s'mom
be well
gnight smom
nite... be well
I'm drooping too -- goodnight all...*poof
night jilli
and s'mom
back...and night to s'mom and jilli. hope you both sleep well
morning granny xx

co6/21 and co6/36 - different meanings, add a cons to end of 6 (not pl)

co6, co + twinkling thing in sky at night. add 4th letter for co7
I just might take a no6 to go shopping tomorrow
ty nbt nbs :)

i've just arrived Flosey
hi Glant
but don't have that yet
ra6 ra7 iron ra6 army r6 something doled out
Hi, all!! Not many U.S. friends up at this hour---I can't sleep so decided to get a jump on the grid.
oops that was ra6/18 sorry
the ra6/18 is the one i have
no prob scouser, but do have those
Hi mimi
you must be west coast?
Flosey, I LOVE that flower! Almost---Arizona.
ah, next time zone later I presume
Arizona doesn't observe daylight savings time so at this time of year we're an hour ahead of California and only 2 hours behind the East Coast.
and thanks, I like the colour, apparently a type of morning glory - I should look for some seeds, might grow here
It is Thanksgiving here and this year I am thankful for finding this site and acquiring so many new friends.
NBS
super Mimi, welcome aboard
wtg Glant
This is a very special community of people.
they are indeed Mimi
Flo, it has to be early where you are as well---are you an insomniac, too?
have always been a night owl
but I should get to bed, early morning tomorrow, hoping to get over to Victoria to do some shopping
oh, dear, flosey. i have just had the biggest row with don. he always prefaces a question with a statement, and it drives me nuts. to me he is stating the obvious, and this time because i am hurting, physically, emotionally and mentally, i flipped.
Me, too. I used to sing in nightclubs so I guess the habit stuck. Wow---I love Victoria. I actually want to move to Seattle, maybe next year. So I could hop on the ferry.
uh, oh, granny
Hi, I'm up, too - slept a bit earlier, and just took a couple of pumpkin pies out of the oven(Ma's recipe, in my profile, as it happens, lol)
oh dear, but he must understand, rose
would be nice to meet you then, Mimi
oh, hi, glant. can hardly see the keyboard because my eyes are so swollen from crying.
Hi, rbud!!
ra5 ra6 male sheep + t and plural
et
ty scouser
thanks scouser
he does, flosey. especially after i threw a glass of bourbon at him....
(((((g'rose))))) - dang men! >:(
Hugs of support for you, gran.
well he threw his glasses at me first....
thanx mimi and rbud.
Gran, you are illustrating one of the many reasons I now live alone---and LOVE it!!!
who gets to clear up the spilt bourbon :-)
did you dent him with the bourbon glass?
oh, wow, tempers! sometimes they can get soooo manish, usually a hug brings hubby around
nah, it missed him, and he cleaned up the bourbon.
I'm with you on that Mimicat
mimi, don is the most wonderful man, just this time he called it wrong.
My ex and I are much better at divorce than we were at marriage. We're more like brother and sister now. At 61 I've decided I'm just done with the romance.
Gran, good for you for being feisty, though....I just love a strong, powerful woman!
first ra6 male sheep plus past tense of eat
ty scouser, keep em coming LOL
thanks again scouser, r's finished
Scouser, where do all of you get these words?!!!
*giggle* through the tears. thanx mimi. haven't lost my temper with all his provocative ways and words for over 8 years...guess i was over due.
and with everything else on your plate rose, it isn't surprising
I'm having a rough time with my kids....that's enough hassle for me. Gotta keep that sense of humor, though, right?
strange, that's what don said...
yes, mimi, so true...right after i strangle him....
MimiCat - stubbornness is one of the attributes of many Babblers - we just gotta find the word..... even if it takes all day.
grannyrose - what a waste of bourbon you should have drunk it first!
I'm the opposite. If I can't get it, I say 'hey-ho' and give up!
Hi all.
morning hydra
There were many nights I'd lie awake thinking of ways to kill him so no one would find the body!! (Big talk--I'm incredibly non-violent.)
scouser, licking floor right now....
oops, your name put me straiught in the PB Hy
Morning, Glan. Hi gran!
hellooooo hydra - I had the flu jab on Tuesday and its made me really tired so I overslept today
Hydra, I'm with you! Guess I don't have much of a competitive spirit. I do these games to relax.
hey hy5
well, down to 18 and it's 1:20 am so I'd better get some sleep, have to leave by 9:15 am to get the ferry to Victoria
Yes gran I was going to ask just how he cleaned up!?
Oh! I hadn't even noticed that word. Thanks!
goodnight everyone, has been fun chatting
Night flosey
I overslept today too - got up at 8.30 - catching up on 3 poor nights of sleep
night, flosey. sleep well, hun
have to go to work soon, good job i'm on flexi hours
Night, dear flosey! Sleep well.
Oh well I will have to go into the PB - frangipanes please
night flosey
thanks
I was awake at 5.30 and up before 6.30. Want to finish writing the last page of my novel today.
sorry scouse, i've brought welsh cakes and tea into the PB this morning
I remember hy5s at school cute little green things in a water tank that did hand-stands to move about
big day then Hy
Ah tea - I cannot live without it.
Thought you were talking about me for a moment, scouser!
Yes, Glan. The publisher's deadline is the 30th, but I only have two scenes left to write.
Well done hy5 and a high-five to you when you finish it. Eva does hi-5s now.
thrillr, romance, fantasy?
Does she? Clever little thing!
well h5 you might have done the handstands but not in a water-tank
Hydra, I just started writing my autobiography...a daunting task. Thought about writing it as fiction as I'm not sure I want to admit I actually did all these things but decided at this age I'm gonna let it fly! Good for you and be sure to tell us the title.
Sexy romance, Glan. Title is Perfect Lives and Book 1 comes out as an ebook at Christmas. It's actually aimed at older teens, but I'm sure older readers would enjoy it, too. (Blows own trumpet)
well done you!
Wow, Mimi. I have tried on and off to write a memoir but can't get beyond the first few pages as it's so personal.
Thanks, Glan *blushes*
congrats, hydra!
yay, hy5. don't think i have met an author before. * curtseys* how-de-do ma'm?
Thanks, rbud! I'll let everyone know when it's published. I hope Hachette, the publisher, will put it on Amazon because they allow you to peep inside.
gotta go to work - bye all - happy babbling
Bye glan. Have a good day!
People kept telling me I should write it so decided to give it a try. I've written all my life but only published on research in college.
Bye, Glan!
good morning babblers )
Morning, NN!!!
Hy5, thank you so much for coming in, I extended your name for the 9 and 10 :)
Hi Nono. Hey Mimi, keep at it and see if there are any writers' groups in your area, to give you support and feedback. I'm always willing to look at a few pages for you and give you advice. I work for a literary consultancy.
have a good one, glant
Yes, I should have kept away today, shouldn't I?
and hello nanette
I'm noticing many of us have cats, surely because we're all such superior people!!
hi Rose, Sorry for your squabble with hubby, but making up should be fun
Definitely, Mimi!
noooooooo not at all hy5
And Mimi, I used to be a rock music journalist and sang in a band, too, so I was interested to read your profile.
I'll keep that in mind, hydra. I wrote a book years ago that was a kind of Erma Bombeck book about being a wife and mother. Started as therapy and ended up as a book. It never got published, though.
Oh yes Mimi all the best people have cats
I'm classically trained in voice and just know my voice teacher rolls over in her grave every time I sing something like "Hit Me With Your Best Shot!"
or had a cat, in my case. hence the halo
Weirdly, Nono, I didn't even think of my' name' when looking for those words. Oops, washing machine finished. Must go and hang the stuff out before it rains. Email address is in my profile, Mimi. And no writing is ever wasted. You may be able to re-use some of it, or re-work it.
Yes, scouser. RIP Pushkin, boo-hoo. Must go. *poof*
awe so sorry scouser
its hard when we lose our furry friends
Scouser, after my German Shepherd died 7 years ago and my kids grew up and moved out, I vowed I wasn't going to mother anyone again. But these three cats were all strays who found and adopted me. Two boys, 1 girl---names are Pywakit, Dodger, and Jillian (Jilly Bean).
we have several extra hang-around kitties here, anyone need a new one? I think we're cat magnets, they know I'm a soft touch and will put out food. So do a couple of young possums, darnit.
Bless you Mimi for taking in those stray fur babies
I have almost always had at least one cat
ty all . I live in an upstairs apartment and it so happened that Pushkin went agoraphobic when we moved in, so it was easy looking after him. I am not in mind to take on another one yet.
I am always telling the cats they should chase away those possums, but no - they'll fight amongst themselves over the bowls, but will all just sit and watch if a possum steals food from them.
perhaps possum puts out a pong that only cats can smell?
lol, your lucky it's only possums they share their food with
meanwhile, on the other side of the house, the raccoons are stealing dog food from right under the dogs' noses - we're just a wildlife smorgasbord here, lol
you must live in the country?
we run the gammut of wild animals here too. Possums, coons, skunks, deer, turkey they all share the surroundings
I've actually been involved with raising tigers, lions, servals, bobcats, etc. since I used to be education director at a wildlife park here. Have also raised gorillas, orangutans and chimps at a primate center. Also worked at a zoo. Even raised a baby hummingbird year ago. LOVE THOSE CRITTERS!!
we're right on the edge of town, lots of woods. Our deer and turkey haven't been coming around much since the dogs moved out back, and thank goodness I've yet to see a skunk in my yard in over 20 years here.
your lucky there, rbud. We have to be very careful about going outside at night
well, you definitely *should* write your autobiography, then, Mimi, sounds fascinating
Goodness how interesting MimiCat.
I lived in rural Michigan for a year surrounded by 180 acres of forest land. During hunting season, the stupid hunters would go through my yard to get to the forest and it made me sooo mad I started following them with a loud boombox so they couldn't sneak up on the animals!
My ex said "What's wrong with this picture---they have GUNS and you have a RADIO?!!"
lol!! good move! :)
When it comes to things like that, I don't even think about safety for myself---I just lose my mind and get mad!!
Another "S" in the right place and we could've had yams this morning!!
A friend of mine lived by the big marshes in south-west Scotland and when it was wildfowler time she would go out with a big white cloth to scare the geese up and away from the guns.
I am seriously considering doing the unthinkable and skipping the yams this year. I have them, though, I suppose I could just steam some (that's how I like them best - no icky marshmallow on top)
good for your friend, scouser, I don't like hunters much myself. the only plus in some cases is the herds of deer get thinned a bit, so there are less of them standing around on the highways.
I live not far from a big wildfowl reserve Martin Mere. I have seen the hooper swans coming in their thousands from northern Russia. magnificent.
well maybe hundreds.
One of the big problems I had was they would shoot really close to my house and yard, which was illegal. The police wouldn't do a darn thing about it either. I had young children at the time so I wasn't going to put up with shooting and the chance for stray bullets.
that was alwas a fear when we lived out in the boonies when my kids were young
I so much miss living in a more rural environment. One day (soon, I hope) I plan to do so again.
we even had crazies shooting from the back of their trucks on the road
I'm such an animal lover and they seem to know this. I've even had a couple of wild deer come up to me in the woods.
Mimi we live in a rural mobil home park, lots of animals about
I've stayed in Phoenix because my kids are here, but as they get older I'm liking them less and less, so I could move, see 'em twice a year and be happy.
Going to make a cup of tea and try to get a couple of hours of sleep. Bye to all.
Hi all and sleep well mimi
Hi, Liz!!! Later.

That's great Ruby. Glad it turned out so well.
congrats ruby
finished with the dinner, only just start4ed the grid!
I didn't order a capon in time, but the chicken was better
Happy TG Day to you and Burt.
I just wish we had some fine cognac in the house,; that would finish things off nicely
glad it went well for you - sorry for the confusion over your "finished"
ty Annie
need not worry, I've had about 5 firworks in the several years I've been playing.....
I don't care, it's just lovely to see my babble friends!
ruby, when are you going to London?
Happy T'day friends
14-17 Dec and can't wait! My gift arrived today and my "niece" has promised not to open it until I get there. I found Jung's Red Book for her
happy TG Day to you and your family, bichon
{{bichon}}
What is the difference between a chicken and a capon?
(Thought Bich was setting us up for a joke, for a minute) : )
a capon is a neutered rooster, I think, so it gets very big and fat and they supposedly feed them milk
and why did they cross the road.....
must be good. I don't think you usually see them here. But, could be wrong
I've never seen one.
My father used to cook a capon for the holidays. Much better than chicken..he also made goose which I loved but it was very fatty.
my mother used to buy them at a kosher butcher in NY when I was a kid
they are very expensive here
That's where my father got the capon.
I've only had goose a couple of times, but I think it wasn't cooked properly because it was too fatty and made me sick
capon is a perfect size for a dinner for 4 or even 6
I can't eat anything too fatty.
but this chicken was splendid
Goose is delicious if made properly. He used to keep pouring out the fat and basting and basting.
I think too fatty is bad for everybody; no one should put that much pressure on his gall bladder!
but Ruby you are a good cook.
Can't go wrong with chicken. I am making my turkey differently this year. It's going to be cut into pieces before roasting
unfortunately, only sometimes
clue for lower a and lower i please

In case you're not aware of it, there's a really wonderful self-help group called SMART recovery that has meetings. They are good because they actually give you psychological tools to aid continued recovery. They do not label you or say it's out of your control. You can go online and see if there are meetings in your area....SMARTrecovery.com.

I have aq8, help with other 8 pls
Hiya crossy :)
howdy smores
and yes ruby we do have wild turkeys and are allowed to hunt one per year( with permit) we have lots of canada geese but most do not bother with them as they can be oily tasting if not prepered properly
and picking buckshot out of your teeth.....
lol,we do not use a shot bun for that reason.a skilled hunter can do a kill shot in head or chest with 22 calibre rifle and not spoil the meat
gum
gun
dammit
peri - stats are st8,40 - sorry I don't have it yet
I like the idea of a shot bun -- shoot the dough right onto a cookie sheet
lol...crossy...ruby
I was thinking of a different kinda bun...lol
Too bad there isn't a better placed "s"---we could all have yams this morning!
oops, just saw am4 is that a freebie for today
yes crossy.. he has a few more months on suboxone prog, then they will wean hm off that. . he is looking forward to that. all in all doing pretty good. his meds work when he works with them
Smores, you little dickens!!!
mmmm......yams
Ivesy, just so you know, SMART recovery and their family support groups, takes a very different approach than the 12 step programs.
teehee Mimi. couldn't help myself
what's the difference between a yam and a sweet potato?
don't know ruby, I think they are the same
ty for the info molly.. my son does not like the 12 step, mb he will like this
Yes, Molly, you're right. I find it's a better fit for me than the 12-step. Had a pain pill problem for awhile but have been clean now for 6 years. Going to be working in the field helping others soon.
A lot of people who don't care for the spiritual aspect of AA and NA gravitate towards SMART.
a yam is what popeye says.. i yam what i yam
Nope, smores, they're different altogether.
thats the part he doesnt like in na..
hahah ivesy
really? how so?
good for u mimi!! its a hard problem to beat
teehee...ivesy...so a sweet potato is sweet peas little brother?
well i dont belive in the suboxone prog. its seems he is trading one drug for another. some have to stay on it for life..
lol good one smores
YAY Mimi, congrats of 6years clean!!!
You are not alone in that Ivesy. Many people feel the same way. An addict is an addict after all. Doesn't matter what the drug is.
gotta go cook some more...be back in a bit
{{group hug}} wish you all a wonderful day !!
this is second (or third?) go round with suboxon
same to u smores!
[[smores}}
I am very spiritually oriented, however, I don't like the idea of standing up and saying you're an addict or an alcoholic and letting that define you, especially since I do not consider myself to be one now. Also, I felt the 12-step didn't provide any really useful "tools" to use especially since the premise is that you have no control. Couldn't buy into that since I'm a control freak and believe in taking control.
See you soon, smores!
wish my son did believe in a higher power but he doesnt.. says aa is too judgmental
People who are shame based often feel like 12 step programs are judgmental.
I really feel the way you do about methadone...it's often harder to stop than the original drug it's being used for. I can understand why he feels that way about aa/na. I just couldn't sit around and listen to people's "poor me" stories all the time and not get any constructive advice about how to actually manage the problem.
well he should have plenty of shame.. thats for sure. none of this was necessary... a moment of weakness or peer pressure ruined his life, his potential
It helps to change your lifestyle completely. The main thing that helped me was getting divorced!
i do not feel he will make it without suboxone. he tried b4.. i dont think he is strong enuf. if suboxone keeps hm clean then so be it.. better than heroin. which ws his last drug of choice
ivesy, whatever it takes to give him is life back
its a catch 22 situation.. he needs to be stronger, without drugs..even the one that help .. i dont like suboxone but glad he can stay clean with it.
It's fine to use suboxone...it's very different from methadone, for sure. I didn't use anything so I can't speak to it personally. SMART helps you understand why you turn to drugs/alcohol and gives ways to not relapse. Yes, Annie---one simply must do what works.
going to look into smart.. ty mimi.. and ty for sharing. now i need coffee, my addiction ! have a good day all!
ivesy, how long has your son been clean?
Ivesy, you know the drill. He's gotta want it. And until he does, REALLY does (not just says he does) nothing is going to work. You both remain in my prayers. I know this is a tough road to walk.
Actually, ivesy, the painkillers I was taking and heroin are basically the same in the way the body metabolizes them. Feel free to contact me at my em address in my profile at any time---and your son also.
this is all scary; I am just about to ask my MD for strong er pain meds.....
Ruby, don't be afraid to get pain relief. Most people can use the pills appropriately. I just started using them for emotional pain and that's where I went wrong.
I've been taking the same amount of paracetemol + codeine for about 5 years, but it is just not working well enugh any more
the problem is that my doc will give me scrips for anything I want, so there's no guidance from her
:) back for a quick 5-10mins
Good morning!!! Happy Thanksgiving!
{{car.}} Happy T to you, too
Happy Thanksgiving!! {{car}}
Happy Thanksgiving Day, car.
Unfortunately, that's what often happens. A little (or lesser pill) stops working well, so we move onto something stronger...and stronger. Eventually, if you keep doing that, nothing will work anymore.
Hi Ruby! Hi Smores! Hi Annie!
finally found the st8 :)
Morning, car!!
Hi Mimi!
hmmm, no st8 or any 9 or 10

Hi Molly!
My hubby is also busy cooking. I made the breakfast casserole last night.

Hi Car and Aloy. Happy Thanksgiving.
trying everything for the long water words but no success
he is making the "adult" stuffing, i.e. cornbread/sausage... our hostess made a "kiddy stuffing" , one her grandchildren love with fruit etc
One of the water words means to replenish yourself with water.
ruby, go ** the zoo and add the start of the hawaian goose after the aq water prefix
ooh, ty Mimi, needed that one
I have that one, but neither the 9 or 10

Happy Thanksgiving!
hi aloy
hi car
and now for crossys tidbit of the day!(sorry it is a bit long ) but fits with today being thanksgiving for our american friends..once again sorry it is long
love your icon, MLF (-:
Although Thanksgiving is a North American holiday and a recent invention in the grand scheme of things, the tradition of breaking the wishbone comes from Europe, and is thousands of years older. A bird’s wishbone is technically known as the furcula. It’s formed by the fusion of two clavicles, and is important to flight because of its elasticity and the tendons that attach to it. Clavicles, fused or not, aren’t unique to birds. You and I have unfused clavicles, also known as collarbones, and wishbones have been found in most branches of the dinosaur family tree. The custom of snapping these bones in two after dinner came to us from the English, who got it from the Romans, who got it from the Etruscans, an ancient Italian civilization. As far as historians and archaeologists can tell, the Etruscans were really into their chickens, and believed that the birds were oracles and could predict the future. They exploited the chickens’ supposed gifts by turning them into walking ouija boards with a bizarre ritual known as alectryomancy or “rooster divination.†They would draw a circle on the ground and divide it into wedges representing the letters of the Etruscan alphabet (which played a role in the formation of our own). Bits of food were scattered on each wedge and a chicken was placed in the center of the circle. As the bird snacked, scribes would note the sequence of letters that it pecked at, and the local priests would use the resulting messages to divine the future and answer the city’s most pressing questions. When a chicken was killed, the furcula was laid out in the sun to dry so that it could be preserved and so people would still have access to the oracle’s power even after eating it. (Why the wishbone, specifically—and not, say, the femur or the ulna—is a detail that seems to be lost to history.) People would pick up the bone, stroke it, and make wishes on it, hence its modern name. As the Romans crossed paths with the Etruscans, they adopted some of their customs, including alectryomancy and making wishes on the furcula. According to legend, the Romans went from merely petting the bones to breaking them because of supply and demand. There weren’t enough bones to go around for everyone to wish on, so two people would wish on the same bone and then break it to see got the bigger piece and their wish. This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me—Were there really that few chickens being slaughtered in Rome? If a resource is already scarce, why would you break what supply you do have into pieces?—but I can’t find much more than this about the bone-breaking aspect of the tradition. Anyway, as the Romans traipsed around Europe, they left their cultural mark in many different places, including the British Isles. People living in England at the time adopted the wishbone custom, and it eventually came to the New World with English settlers, who began using the turkey’s wishbone as well as the chickens
Great one, Crossy! Thank you! I am thankful today for all of your great tidbits!
very interesting, crossy.. I used to collect wishbones , now I know why

Duh, I thought that word was a phantom because I followed the T northeast not southeast
it was a fun one to find
I had been disappointed to not find a -tion
ty aloy
Ok so here goes. Early today I posted a photo about my dear friend Ne's partner. He passed away this week and via FB I have asked if people could donate for his funeral. Even if it only $5. His funeral will be a minimum of $4000 and that is the lowest the place will go.

It's a shame that some people can be unpleasant, even on Thanksgiving.
Going after a cluer on Thanksgiving is very unpleasant.

Oh sue, how are you doing?
hi all
we are good, sea, still on an emotional roller coaster but I probably don't have to tell you about what that's like!
Yay!! Good to hear. Just remember to take time and care of yourself!
hi jmc!
I know exactly, My Dad was just diagnosed on Nov. 1st, it has been a whirlwind
Hello, jmc
Hi jmc!
All my best to you and Frank
and to you and your family, sea!
I have the best husband and children in the world, they have helped so much, I am thankful for that.
its good to have support
((((sea))))
I'm glad you have a good circle around you, Sea.
Not only are we dealing with his illness, he has a 137acre farm to take care of along with 2 houses and a 21 acre piece of ground. They have been great.
goodness that must be a lotof work!
stats for the 4th row A please
My son and husband take care of the farm, my brother lives in the house with 3 acres, my mom and dad in the house on an acre and the 21 acres is farmed by a friend. It's all working, thank God.
Now, everyone enjoy this beautiful Thanksgiving day and be thankful.
It's nice that you have land in the family, Sea. Not many people do anymore.
It is Molly, and we all have our own houses to take care of too. My Dad wants the farm to stay in the family as it has been in his family since 1850
i hope that works out. . .we don't need more McMansions taking the place of farms
What a heritage sea!
My son loves it there, he is hoping to eventually sell his house and build there some day.
enough about me, is everyone cooking today?
i am at a hotel in the pocono mountains with the in-laws. . . at this point mainly cousins-in-laws
nice jmc...is it warming up?
it is in the low 50s so it is quite pleasant in the sun
i may go for a hike later
Woke up to a beautiful dusting of snow here..
no one has the fourth row A?
wow Jilly, I don't want to think about that yet. lol
Well, it is what it is in Montana. Just hope people stay safe traveling. We have had many a T-Day upset with bad roads..
I hope so too, calling for 58 here today
we had a nice drive last night with clear skies and relatively clear roads
i made us a picnic supper from Giada and deviled eggs
Sounds wonderful jmc
ok, off to check on my dad and mom...hagd everyone

Good afternoon, Babble buds! Happy Thanksgiving!
happy happy, judi
ad + sometimes vowel + British thanks
and hi again all!
ah, ty sue!
and that was nbt, woot
yay gwen!
and i found the other one, woot!
<cheering loudly>
happpy turkey day to all the u.s. babblers :))
thanks, kate!
the nice thing about living in a border town is that we always have 2 thanksgivings... good practice for xmas!
well, i'm off to enjoy turkey in detroit. remember, y'all, relax, it's a holiday! (i mean for us usians, of course)
have fun, gwen!
My turkey breast is soaking in the brine. My pumpkin pie is baked. The fresh cranberry sauce is chilling. The butternut squash is almost done roasting. I just have to mash my taters and heat my gravy and we'll be good for feasting.
We will be grilling our bird breast this year. Yum!
Sounds yummy, Judi!
After we chow down, we'll be going to see "Skyfall". Nice relaxing day.
cool! Theaters can often be not too crowded on holidays.
yummy!
Nice that ea4 is in the grid today. =)
hmmm... searching
also ea5 for when you are all done :-)
ty bzzn
I figure theaters will be even less crowded tonight, as some big box stores are opening BEFORE black Friday. *insert eye roll here*. The crass commercialism just gets worse and worse every year.
< pulling out the vaccuum to hoover up the clues>
I had hoped to stay out of the stores entirely, but I will probably have to do some grocery shopping
people here are already steeing up the xmas trees in the house :(
Me too, sue. I avoid all but the local stores from now until about February! Our families don't really exchange gifts anymore (which is fine by me). Hubby and I will be doing some shopping for the food bank tomorrow. We also shop for Toys for Tots and Samaratin's Purse. So, at least we have the important, charitable stuff covered.
not much in the way of gift exchanges here either, also OK by me
That, and I'm a scrooge. ;-)
Y's and Q
Y's and Q's are done. I can honestly say I conquered something today.
Hi, all. I haven't been able to afford Christmas for the past couple of years so I write on nice stationery what I love and appreciate about someone, put in envelope and top with a nice ribbon tied in a bow. People seem to like this.
That's a loverly idea, Mimi. Priceless by any standard. :-
My smiley got cut off. :-)
TY, Judi. It also helps bring back the sentiment of the season.
hello
Hiya, harpjane
stationery? haven't used it for years..... it's a lost art!
Aw, I miss stationary.
My best friend and I used to find pictures in magazines and such, cut them out and put them in boxes to show what we would get if we could afford to do so! Put that under the heading "It's the thought that counts."
I have some initial embossed cards my mother-in-law gave me years ago and that's what I use for special things. I love stuff like that and also candles.
i will not be going to any stores thursday 8 pm thanksgiving sales( they are parroting the big box stores of the states even here although ours was last month.i do not like the idea of my friends in the u.s being pulled away from their failiy dinner to be a door greeter because wal-mart or other big box store based in the u.s wishes to jump the gun on black friday sales
family
i refuse to shop on thursday or friday.
good
I never shop
Even if I had money to spend I wouldn't go to any store on those days. The only way you'd find me there is to kill me and throw my cold dead body in!!
help with the ad word?
the Evil Blue Empire.
I do almost all my Christmas shopping on line. I love it. The UPS guys are like Santa's elves.
I also refuse to shop on Dec 26
we are new to this here bzz as wal-mart in canada is less that 10 years old.we do not care for what we see
ad + sometimes vowel + btitish thanks
actually, i do my holiday shopping on Dec 24, if I haven't already picked up what I'm looking for earlier in the year.
british
I totally agree, Molly. When I was still able to buy things, that's exactly what I did...order, order, order and let them deliver. My godson used to see the UPS truck come up the street and he's immediately yell my name!
thanks, my monkeys wouldn't help with the ad
when our boy was young,we used the sears catalogue a lot
when you live on the boonies, sear was often the only way to get it done
nbt
we used the sears catalog in other ways (ahem)
you guys have sears down sough?? sears, the bay hudsons bay company?
south
I was thinking that, harp, but didn't have the guts to say it!!!
We have Sears department stores. Not sure they do any catalog sales any more.
It's sear-roebuck down there, crossy. Didn;t you use Eaton's?
No Roebuck any more. Just Sears.
did noo use eatons too often.we had the towers chain or woolworths.sears for xmas or gen mail order and hudsons bay for high end quality stuff
woot!!! got the 9 and 10 all by mysefl
That's sad - not that I ever had a clue who Roebuck was.
Harp, now the Sears catalog would be too tame for that other purpose...am sure it has been replaced by Victoria's Secret, etc.
lol, mimi!
Depends which "other ways" you have in mind!
and yay kate!
lol, harp.was not that what the nat geo subscription was for?
I'll always remember they guy in the Sears underwear ads, circa 1979
Just down the street from me here in Phoenix is an old-fashioned soda shop and second-hand store. It really takes me back.
indeed mimi, but ass all the boys know know, victoria does not have many secrets left
Harp! Who says chicks from Montana are prim and proper? : D
Yes, crossy, and were you one who would hold the magazine horizontally to try to see what couldn't be seen?
um, Molly, nobody says that....
LOL, Molly!
You're right, crossy. The secret days seem to be gone for good. Shame....that was half the fun.
I meant LOL, harp!
got the hy's finally
yaa for harp!
Gotta go caramelize onions. Back later. Have a good day, all!!!
tc mimi
Hellooo again!
hi all
hi jilly, is the turkey in its place?
Hi peri!!
:)
Yes it is Jane, just finished at 9 ;)
Mass needs to be at 10!!
You could have made it. Father C was a little late!
LOL...I did that mass for several years a long time ago..
I am happy to play for it. I'm usually in town and my T-Day routine is to make a pie and oyster dressing, and show up at my sister's. So it fits into my life!
Usually not too many people?
By the way, it was page 602 of the 1975 Sears Fall-Winter Catalog. Snopes says "undetermined" but I know what i saw!
i must dash, see you all tomorrow. have a sfae and joyful thanksgiving all!
Sorry. Stepped away for a few moments to truss up my turkey breasts for the grill. Messy wrestling match.
you can actually remember what page it was on?? lol!!
Okay, I am laughing my ass off. Comments on page 602..."Could it be a growth? A smuggled hotdog? A Fisher-Price person? Like Amway or that cave in The Empire Strikes Back, what you get out of page 602 depends on what you put into it."
Gotta go mash some taters. See you kids tomorrow. Blessings and good tidings to all! xxxooo
Happy Thanksgiving Judi
Happy Thanksgiving to my babble friends celebrating today!
I think it was a gerbil.
I think it was a gift...

Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today BR?
hi again all, still waiting for the surgeon to decide if Frank can go home
hi sue, bless your heart..
hi Jane!
we were walking around the halls last night and the charge nurse (whom I do not recall meeting before) told us that all the nurses are rooting for Frank and think he is very strong and brave - just what he needed to hear, and very sweet
Hi Sue. Hope things are progressing along nicely
just saw the surgeon, looks like we are really going home!
That is excellent news, Sue..i am pleased for you & Frank :-)
Good evening all - and so glad frank can go home Sue

Hi Bichon
nd Ursh
hi bichon and ursh and all
hi again all, and thanks for all the kind thoughts!
hi Sue, I hope Frank continues to improve and gets well.
hi sue, I too, hope Frank continues to improve!!
he is doing amazingly well considering all that has happened to him! Which I keep telling him - he needs to keep his spirits up
Must be hard to stay upbeat after all of that
Er, when did you move to Israel Bichon & Peri, and why?
it is indeed. Mostly he is good but every once in a while the whole thing overwhelms him.
Glant, just solidarity.
Does Frank have family nearby?
oh, I see.
solidarity for the Israelis
Spirits are hard to keep up after an ordeal or what has happened. Laughter and joking around every once in awhile may help or read some spiritual sayings or moral sayings, that may help too. but I'm sure you have been doing that.
no family for Frank anywhere, bichon, he was adopted and his parents are gone
but we have a lot of friends
Sue email is in my profile. pls feel free to e-mail me requesting Reiki or ask for it here. for Frank or for you.
and yes, we are trying to laugh and distract ourselves in a variety of ways, and have had a lot of friends visiting as well, which he thrives on
That's too bad. Family certainly helps a lot. but he has you, and that counts for a lot
thanks, peri! will do. Is there some optimal time, like evening to help him sleep, or anything?
and sue if you e-mail me your address I would like to send Frank a card.
My neighbor is a Reiki Master. It is really a great feeling
there is a time difference. I am east coast. you are midwest. It can help with pain relief and anxiety.
evening is good. just let me know what time. cannot gaurantee I will do it every day, but often
I will do that, peri, thanks!
I am a Reiki Master too
What exactly is Reiki peri?
peri, I don't see your address in your profile but I can send you a facebook message
I did not know that Peri! My son who is 13 is reading a book about it as well... He is interested in learning
That's good Sue. I'm sorry Frank has no family left. Maybe the two of you when he gets better, can try to find his real parents and etc.
I can guarantee you that there are a lot of Reiki Master in CA.
I am sure there are! : )
he tried that a long time ago, bdkh, but it was a closed adoption in PA in the late 1940s so no chance of family information
Oh, Sue, I'm sorry.

YAY nan!
hey welki
hey all
just got here. Easy grid (so far)
hi stid
how are you today welki? It's dry here, so I am happy. Made it into the garden in the morning for a short time to pick the last of the beans that were on the vine. I'll save them for seed this year.
we'd have beansicles here - it's cold! (but sunny today)
well, I think things froze a little last night, but still in the pods they should be okay, I hope. We'll see. Almost time to dig the dahlias for the winter.
And I need to bring the geranium and the avocado in still -- they are near the house so somewhat protected.
avocado! does it bear fruit?
too little still for that, but if I am lucky, and manage to actually have a decent-sized greenhouse someday... :-) And if the climate keeps changing :-( The neighbor across the way has an orange tree she planted from seed that doesn't bear but is alive after a couple decades!
Hi (STID) and (Welki)
(((((DR!))))) how's the kiddo? did his migraine get better?
hey dr - been a long time since i've 'seen'you
Did you know excedrin is back on the shelves?
He is better! Thank you for asking.
uhm - never knew it was taken off *lol*
Yes,.. I finally found some in the stores! They are saying the regular should be back in January
How are you Welki? I have been in and out.. mostly lurk
oh, I am SO glad he is better -- Grant had a migraine this morning (the second one this week), I may have to take him to the doc again soon. I think they are stress-related more than anything, but the big storm systems that came through earlier this week set me off on Tuesday.
I think Jacob's was salt and TIRED
I think Jacob's was salt and TIRED
oops- hiccups
We use tylenol and boost with a caffeine pill, or buy the excedrin that doesn't have aspirin or advil in it. If I really need additional pain relief the only NSAID that works for me is naproxen. Yes, dehydration is the pits.
hiccups are pit-like too...
okay, I think our meal is ready. Tom is in the kitchen making cutting up food noises.
**hugs and choclits** see you-all later.
YUM!!! Enjoy!!! we are waiting for family to get here
have a nice dinner, stid
:-) *poof*
hello everyone :)
hi, smores
Hi Smores

We are still cooking and waiting for the family to arrive

I am so happy you could both spend Thanksgiving at home together...much to be thankful for!
st8 extends from the st5/10
no smores,i use chunks of 5 year old aged quebec apple wood smoked cheddar and the gravy is a onion gravy
sounds yummy

k peri
ty
yw cg :)
indeed, we are very thankful, river
well done to have made it home after such a long time sue and frank. May this year bring many more blessings
thanks, bugs!
your up peri
yes indeed river.poultine can be a thing of beauty if done correctly;))
I have heard of hit but never tried it. A couple years ago my husband took our daughter to Montreal as a graduation gift. He said he lived on that all week....all different varieties.
i onlu use russet taters then brush peanut oil with herbs and spices on them and bake them
I could live on that and gravy for a very long time...lol!
Loving the sound of all this food that's being talked about!
can garnish with crumbled bacon if desired;)
He had some with broccoli one night and meat another night
lol...crossy
yes there are many good veggie poutines
I made my Dad's french meat stuffing today...my brother in law was delirious...as no one has made it that way since his grandmother many years ago....Us french do know how to cook!
poultine
read right through that crossy
mmm.my beloveds da used to do an amazing sausage meat stuffing
yes indeed,th french know the way around the old stove
I use ground pork and beef..heavy on the sage with some poultry seasoning...lot of fine chopped onions and light on the breading to hold it all together, salt and pepper and yum!
I just made myself some Gorton this week.....love it on toast for breakfast
sounds wonderful River
I may have to fix myself some dinner soon...
did anyone bring you a thanksgiving dinner sue
mmmm sounds tasty\
I had a thanksgiving lunch at the hospital
it was actually quite good, and free (!)
wish I was closer to you to bring my leftovers...
but after a 24 hour drive it would be cold...sigh!
lol, so would you!
I appreciate the thought, though :-)
I have friends who are doing Thanksgiving tomorrow and will bring something by then
Crossy do you make Gorton?
what is Gorton River?
wish I could make that sound french by typing it but no one can hear my accent on line
It is a pork spread
pork, onions, sage, heavy on the clove, bit of alspice, salt and pepper....simmer for hours. Refrigerate and spread on toast or make a sandwich if you choose. Some like it with mustard. I just like it plain on toast for breakfast
is it l ike a pate?
sort of....after simmering so long the ground pork breaks down very fine.
I find it best cold. Now a days the pork is so lean there is no fat in it. Years ago when my father made it it would have a layer of fat on top that you could either skim off or slather that over bread too.
brb
so on my french side, my specialities are pork pie, meat stuffing and gorton....all good for you...lol!
my other side is polish and I do have to say my golumpkis (stuffed cabbage) and pierogies (potato/cheese wrapped in dough) are to die for.....
so enough about food....my stomach is killing me
lol...mine too River
help with the lone i 4th row please
it4/5 thing
(very fishy)
oh No it was a fish...thanks sue
hey I thought we weren't talking about food anymore..lol
I hate fish so that is not food to me...lol!
LOL
<---seafood addict
S's squashed - gotta take a break
bye smores...almost ready to leave myself
crossy, if you are here, it is your turn
Crossy...are you here? Have a bacon story if you are!
Son of a B. The Redskins beat The Cowgirls on Thanksgiving.
{{SMORES}} please don't go yet!
hi mimi! we are home!!
That's because the Cowboys suck, Molly.
Fabulous, Sue!! I was just going to ask. Now YOUR work begins!!
: D Yes Champ, I agree.
no kidding. Feels like I've already done an awful lot of work...
Yay for Sue!
I'll bet. Let's hope it gets easier quickly and that you have home help SOON.
He must be thrilled to be home
no home nursing, unfortunately, but lots of help
from friends, that is
Is the home nursing not going to happen at all?
he is. he's still hurting but he and the dog were really happy to see each other :-)
no, since he doesn't have the ostomy. maybe during chemo but we're not there yet
I supposed if I decide I can't handle his bandages they could help, but there really isn't that much to it
That's the sorry state of health benefits these days. Sad and stupid. Thank God for friends, right? Glad you have a good support system.
me too, mimi!
Don't let him be stoic and not take pain medication. It actually helps recovery since it enables more rest. Pain takes a lot of energy.
It's the holiday that never ends. Cooked and baked all week and now there is a pot of stock going on the stove.
I already gave it to him, mimi, no argument there!
Molly, after a couple of decades of cooking for my family, I'm happy to have made a casserole for one today!!
Good, Sue. The one thing you need to be diligent about is making sure he takes in a lot of liquid and, if he's allowed, prune juice and fiber drinks to avoid terrible constipation from the narcotics.
well, with the Crohn's and the internal stitches he has to stay low fiber. He's never had constipation in his life, though, so that shouldn't be a problem. I will push the fluids.
It seems to be an inevitable consequence of narcotic use regardless of how the system usually works. I suggested the fiber drinks because I thought they might be easier on his system but you should ask the doctor about it. My father really suffered from the constipation while taking meds to ease pain from mesothelioma. I know I had an issue as well when I was taking painkillers.
Sue, another thing you need to be diligent about is making sure that you get YOUR rest and that you get some Sue time.
Amen to that, Molly!
well, he's been on them for two weeks now and no constipation so maybe he will be ok. They really want him on a low residue diet. But I will keep an eye on him.
and i already asked one of our friends to come over, she's here now talking to him so i am babbling in the recliner
and another friend will come over later and walk the dog, yay!
Good. I bet you are looking forward to sleeping in your own bed.
I am indeed.
Great, Sue. Sounds like you have it all under control and us mother hens here can stop worrying!
'mens" not found in the dictionary.. wtf?
well, it's under control on a day by day basis, we'll see
Sue, my email address is on my profile now, so feel free to use it anytime.
will do, thanks, mimi!
{{Mimi}}
Hello again :)
[[SMORES!!!]]
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving
Done with the T-Day work or still plugging away? I made a casserole for one and it was delicious.
Thanksgiving was always the hardest day of the year for me when I cooked for a family of five (and sometimes more). Don't miss it at all!!!
We all got together at my sisters - it was nice - and very filling...lol
casserole for one?
Olive, it always freaks me out that mens is not accepted either. But since it has an apostrophe, it isn't.
Well, if you don't eat too much you just aren't even trying to enjoy turkey day!
HI Molly :)
Yep---don't even get me started on my kids... Hey, in case you didn't see it earlier, I added my email address to my profile. Please feel free to use it!!
lol..true...my other sister surpirsed us all with our Mom chocolate meringue pie....since we didn't know she was making it another sister made a marble cake and pumpkin pie..of course I had to have all three :)
I did see that Mimi..I will be using it :)
I'm saving dessert until a bit later when I'm watching the final Harry Potter movie.
so you didn't go anywhere today?
lol...Potter fan heh?
Nope. Won't be going at Christmas either. Long, sad story. Only disappointed not to see the grandkids. Haven't even seen the new baby yet.
I'm sorry Mimi
<---eating light
Oh, yeah, love Harry Potter. I get into fantasy very easily. When I go to Disneyland I truly BELIEVE I'm in a haunted mansion and mingling with pirates!! It's OK, smores....I'll be fine.
<----doesn't believe ruru :)
I know you will, you seem like a very strong woman...still sorry
Eating light and drinking heavy, ruru?!!
good idea mimi
hadn't considered that
molly must be gloating in MD
One of my best friends is taking me out on Sunday. He and his wife are really wonderful people. They're 20 years younger than I am but treat me like solid gold and appreciate me.
ok, back again
mimi, sorry you have kid issues, that is tough
That sounds great Mimi
it is good to have good friends :-)
They've completely shattered my heart but I'm staying strong.
<-----prays for peace for Mimi and her kids
All my friends want to line up to smack 'em. Yes, thank God for friends. Even my godson want to smack 'em and is on my side and he and my middle child are the same age.
i missed this? What's going on mImi?
<---Smug and gloating
Rotten grown kids.
oh
rotten how?
you don't have to answer if you've already talked it out
I think Jerry Jones facially twitched or something
He may have registered an emotion or two. : D
Is that the Jets coach?
my niece (my sister's daughter) never let my dad know when she had kids - my dad has three great-grandchildren he's never met
Wow Sue. Those kids are missing out on a wonderful great grandpa.
that's terrible uu
they are indeed!!
Cowboys owner Bea.
it doesn't seem to be hostility, more like indifference
he's had sooo many facial surgeries he looks like Michael Jackson Bea
Watching Jets and Pats.
Jets coach uses some language.
C's crushed
*shocked*
Isn't he the one with the foot fetish?
Have no clue.
yes
he's a whacko
Looking for co6 after the ex prisoners?

carcass is a funny word
SMom, sounds like you had a good crew to celebrate Thanksgiving/your birthday.
it is isn't it?? ... when you repeat it several times
Happy birthday sammysmom... I just read your profile... it's fun !
I'm guessing that that is all carc's can think about then
Don't you find that with a lot of words? They sound funny after you repeat them several times.
lol
one of my grandkids, when they were little, used to laugh every time I said "doily" and ric-rac. She said... funny words, grandma! She still loves words and she's 24.
i did molly and we had so much food.. send home lots with several of the kidfs and took some to 2 neighbor shut-ins. daughter had made a sweet potato casserole and punkin and pumpin and mince pies..... grandaughter made a killer cheesecake..... they have all waddled off for the night and hubby and i ae sort of semi-comatose and looking forward to tomorrow
Semi-comatose. Perfect. That is exactly how I feel. And I didn't have the crowd you did.
walter cleans as he goes along so the house doesn t look like we had 30 people here.... dishes are done and all tidied up
Walter is a gem. But you know that.
I'd like to have a walter
we could use a couple walters around here too
I have a walter, but he is named "Wally" :-)

Good evening everyone.

Hey, peach
grand number 2's hubby is a wallace.. lots of wally s here-lol
Hi Peach

*Puts another log on the fire for Diane*
first thing hubby did when we got home, build a fire in fireplace - that's where we'll spend rest of evening until flip
yes... winter is definitely here... quite a bit of snow too, and it will be here for the duration. We don't get those lovely chinooks that they get in the south part of the province.

A pretty good day .. You too?
A perfect day. And it didn't rain.
Nice ..
Hello everyone..turkeyed out?
hey jilly, no turkey here. :-)
It is done. Just put the soup in the fridge.
Well, we do T-day at my best griends, then they all come here the next night for leftovers. Gotta do carcass broth tomorrow and clean the house.
*friends
that sounds like a nice way to extend the day, jilly
It started about 20 years ago, both of us as working moms didn't like cooking our fannies off for one day and then having to work the next. Kids all about the same ages...we came up with this.
Of course, now neither of us has to work on the day after Thanksgiving, and the numbers are much lower with kids grown and gone.
so it gets better and better? *wicked mama grin*
LOL...oh, sorta bittersweet....but the way things are supposed to go.
None of my kids are here, Judy had 3 of her 5. But one calls me 'her real mom'...
We don't do thanksgiving, so it was a quiet at-home day for us, very low-key. I even managed to get my home office a little bit neater (spent about half an hour in there).
One year we observed Canadian Thanksgiving when our oldest was home after boot camp.
That's a nice idea, jilly.
The day doesn't really matter, it's family that matters...
wow. down to 60 now. That's a really good amount of progress for today.
evening all, I have one left! Please clue the CO 6/21. The one after pros and CO4/5 please:)
a math term alta
omg tysm
co6/21= co + si4/5
kept going the wrong way grrr
Easy to do today!
just finished our non-traditional turkery day
do tell...
we don't do the whole turkey thing
although I want dibs on Molly's turkey soup
LOL, have one more day of feasting here, then it's time to boil down the turkey carcass for soup later.
We get a nice big Hutterite turkey. Organic, no hormones etc...love it! I also cook my turkey breast side down. Keeps the white meat juicy.
our neighbors had a huckabee turkey.. everything was to the right in the pan
ROFL...
hey ruru and YAY alta!
hi stid
sounds like you don't do tradition either
nope, not something I participate in. Being old(er) has its privileges. I can stop pretending.
Eyes are drooping, think I will not be staying up for flip...niters all!
LOL sweet dreams, jilly - enjoy your day tomorrow!
((stid)) ((ruru))
I hate to tell you stid.. but you are not "older"
night jilly
Well, not older than you, ruru - but old enough that I have learned to be true to my beliefs instead of just following the crowd.
*pulls out toothpicks from Jilly's eyes*
we call that wiser stid.. not older
ew... poor jilly-eyes!
:-) thanks ruru. We are guessing those are wisdom lines around the eyes, then. *wink*
I don't have lines .. yet
and only a little bit of grey
not you, silly person! ME! >o o< <-- eyes with crows feet
oh that!.. that's nothing.
you look young stid
my hair has extra "highlights" these days, but not enough that it's obvious.
hmm.. I don't get the dying thing.. highlights and all.
I do look young, ruru -- always have looked younger than I am. I have kids in high school guessing that I am in my thirties... :-D I don't discourage that thinking.
I think grey hair is dignified
well I don't look 60 either
silvery highlights... my mother went grey at the temples first and looks very beautiful, I think.
I saw picks of the get-together.. hego looks like a really nice person.. and of course Jillybus
they are lovely ladies! I was definitely the young-un in the group.
jilly is the coolest person here
I mean Jilli..
Jilly is fun.. Jilli is cool
my typing sucks tonight
hego was so elegant, and bugs is the sort of person I aspire to be for sure (so is mr bugs -- he's amazing)
ah, tyops is me middle name, you knwo.
I like hego's face.. warm, sincere, bright...
bugs looks like a hoot
a very unique person I'd guess
and sue, well -- she's just so smart, and nice, and an excellent teacher! I learned a huge amount the day we drove out to the fossil site together
I wish I could teach again
the really cool thing about babblers is that we have such varied life experiences, but we all understand that connection with words (and ideas) and we can talk for HOURS
why not, ruru?
I found that to be true too stid
I mean, why not teach?
I'm too busy .. it takes enormous time to prepare for classes
that is so true, ruru
however it was the most gratifying experience of my life
the out-of-class prep time is incredible
nice to be busy, though.
yes.. unbelievable
I taught for 11 years
wow! I didn't know that -- what type of classes?
wine courses for UC Berkeley
I bet you were the favorite professor on campus!
almost
I won a huge honor one year
? Dr. Ruru-the-magnificent?
no.. silly
*grin*
I really do admire teachers though.. Doctors and Teachers and Nurses.. the greatest people on earth
Agreed. I think in general people who are kind choose those careers. Kindness is the quality I value most highly.
I'm too cynical to be kind
I don't think that's true, ruru *looking through magic glasses that reveal hearts*
no.. it's kind of true
I think you are very kind, and on the rare occasions your cynicism is hurtful you are sad about it. At least that is true for here.
You have a crunchy outside, but inside you are kind. *nods head wisely, displaying silvery sparkles*
you make me sound like a tootsie pop
Or a really good choclit with a creamy center.
I used to love dark chocolate with creamy mint centers... *sigh*
*crosses fingers* I am staying away from sweets
I've lost 15 pounds finally
wow. that is wonderful for you!
I have 35 more to go
it's so hard to do
I have done that a few times, stop eating artificial sweets, and only fruit. It was so nice to be free of the sugar and to feel healthy again.
That's a lot to lose, ruru -- I am sure you will do it.
hello. stiddy, read your profile. please take my email addy with you. you are one of a few to whom i feel i can really open up to...if that's okay.
hey grannyrose
I think once you start eating sweets you crave them.. if you stop.. you don't
hey, ruru...if i can do it,so canyou, mate
It only was difficult for me for a little bit -- and I gave myself permission to "cheat" a little bit at intervals. But after a little while I really didn't like the sugar.
ruru, don and i have worked out that it carbohydrates which trigger our need to eat anything not nailed down. we steer clear of bread, bikkies(cookies) , potato, pumpkin, in fact any starchy foods. we allow ourselves to eat any vegetable/fruit which goes crunch.
With my allergies, I have to avoid so much anyway.
wish i were allergic to hagen daz
I find that good plant proteins with crisp flavors help me stay on track. I think they regulate the blood sugar and satisfy the taste buds. There is a recipe I used to make a lot that has black-eyed peas, lemon juice and parsley and not much else. Easy to make and tasty. I found it in an Indian cookbook.
