In London, as a kid, I remember I waas always cold, terribly underweight from illness, and never comfortable. And summer seemed never to last long enough to waarm me.

I intended to stay only a year, (I had a job coming-up in Australia), but I tell people, by the time my second foot hit the ground, getting off the plane, I was a So>Californian .. not the north, although San Francisco is nice for a visit.

I like being not so far from San Diego now, where my dad still lives... nice to see him more often.
My mom and brother live in this city, which partially prompted the decision to move.

A while ago, I was in a cab with a driver who'd been in the country only a few months, and he couldn't get over the fact that the mountains, desert, and ocean are all within a couple of hours drive.

The funny thing is that even though we both grew up there and are the same age, we never met... until we were both teaching English to Korean children at the YBM ECC Academy in Siheung-Si, S. Korea! Funny huh? We joke that we had to travel half-way around the world just to meet.

Small world. I worked with a guy from just two blocks from my home in London, didn't meet until we came to LA. And another guy that I'd gone to school with, turned up in my office one day. Then, at a banking class, I met a girl I'd lnow in grade school. They say if you stand there long enough, you'll reconnect wit all your friends in Piccadilly Circus, but in my case it's LA.

I was there in the early-mid 60s, pre-computers, when you had to do a lot of work by using prior knowledge. Now, I guess it's all computerized, and ready for the printer.

This man was writing a screenplay, and concentrating, so it wasn't as if we would spend the time talking. The radio was an interruption, turning the pages of a book disturbed his train of thought ... ugh. Eventually, it became too annoying to spend time that way. I think his screenplay was picked up, but I can't remember the title, or his nom-de-plume, so that's a another brush with fame that fizzled.
And wow... I can't imagine living with someone like that. No, we often do our own things in separate rooms or go out separately. You can't live in each other's pockets... geez.
Yeah. I can't imagine why he had to have you there, just sitting quietly while he did that? Makes no sense.
I thionk it's a sign of insecurity. He also didn't like me to spend time with 'the girls', and we rarely went out with friends, incase I spokle to a boyfriend/husband of a friend. Just too weird, for long-time consumption.

so even if I fell asleep..if anything woke me...I was back up..so took advantage of the awake time to write essays..i had a real killer of an essay that I really wanted to do well on... and I think I did
but the synopsis for it was worth 30%, the interview another 10 and the essay itself was worth 50% of my final grade
I well remember feeling like that and having those tough university (and post-grad) things but happily, they are long in the past
i am loving it... ugh..i just looked at my schedule for next term...crappy schedule
unless i can seet up my meeting with my prof for independent study on particular day...will feel ugh

when I went to night school, for my MA, I had to drive 1 hr 20, 4 nights a week and there was a lot of snow very often and MANY deer! Very hard after teaching all day, but necessary

that's overwhelming - just the drive
and surviving all that is what really counts!
didn't have to drive nearly that far - but it was worth it - loved my teaching job
