jilli, there is a list of enable. i created a short-cut on desktop.
LOL...well, heading to bed...niters all ...see you tomorrow!
night, jilly. sleep well, hun.
I'll look into it some day, granny -- too sleepy now
I do think I will....*poof*
gnight sis
this is a very babbletty grid
sure is jilli
I think I'll have a nightcap to celebrate midnight
enjoy, jilli. what are you having?
just got a small vodka-rox, granny
so, nurse grannyrose, how long does muscle pain last? This is 8 days now.
okay, jilli....have you had x-rays done? this is a tad too long.
yes, x-rays were done -- nothing broken or cracked. The pain travels. Right now it's sort of mostly in the armpit area. Weird.
has it changed in any way? is it the same? or getting worse?
It's changed in that it hurts in different places. It used to be worst in the right shoulderblade area, and around the right side. That's not so bad now. None of it is as bad as it was originally, but I still can't turn over in bed or anything.
jilli, do you have access to a cream containing arnica. it is the best for soft tissue injury.
Lifting things stabs in both armpit areas, around the front. I don't know the muscle names offhand -- could look it up but too lazy just now.
I don't at present, granny, and no car to get any. I just haven't felt up to getting a taxi to take me to the car rental place yet. I just haven't felt up to anything, frankly, except sitting here with the computer, lol!
that makes sense...you have torn the muscles used to hang onto something strongly, like a steering wheel...and then the muscles tear because you have been tossed around.
Actually, lifting that drink still hurts a bit in the right shoulderblade area.
okay, jilli. which analgesia are you using?
So how long do torn muscles take to heal?
about the same as broken bones...6 weeks
Jilli if you need any help re anything at all I can come over.
saani, can you find a cream with arnica in it? the best for jilli right now.
I tossed caution to the winds at first and used liquid Advil 400 mg every 4 hours -- not supposed to because am on ramipril and amiloride. Oh -- at the very first the ER doc gave me Percocet because I wasn't supposed to take Advil (ibuprofen) but it almost knocked me cold and made me throw up.
Salt Spring, where jilli lives is the home of herbs. The local store should carry it, if not jilli let me know and I will get it for you. Even the druggist might have it?
good suggestion granny.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
Now I've switched to acetominophen extra strength, but have taken one "Tylenol 3" (acetominophen/caffeine/codeine) and will have another at bedtime. Pharmacist I phoned agreed. Also suggested Robaxacet muscle relaxant.
jilli, please contact saani. you need arnica!!!
and jilli, you can take advil and acetominophen at the same time. it is called multi-modal analgesia. it works well.
Hi saan -- nice of you to offer, but I have friends close by who can get things, and I expect to be better enough in a day or two to do that taxi-to-rent-a-car thing, or even just taxi to drugstore. Insurance will pay for taxis, they say -- thank goodness! $50 plus tip to go to town and back!
I can get arnica at the drugstore, but it's closed tomorrow (New Year's Day) -- I checked.
granny, advil is a no-no for me because of BP meds.
Take a friend with you to do these things, it's way more fun and less of a dreary chore. I'm going to come and vidit early this year anyway; armed with Oyster Bay!
Anyway, thanks for the 6 weeks prognosis -- good to know what to expect.
jilli, i use the combination of those medications. i have high bp also. it hasn't stopped me. twice a day won't effect your bp too badly.
goodnight all!
pain causes more problems, with the associated high bp, than the problems of the advil.
Happy New Year to all Babblers. Jillibus: Sorry to see that you got ripped muscles - best medicine is patience whilst they knit again. I have been getting RSI's from Jigidi !
night saani. please keep in touch with jilli. she is very precious to me.
Saan, I hate to bother busy friends. My helpful and willing neighbours would have done things for me when they were shopping anyway, but they're all away in nice warm places for a while.
Hi scouser!
Hi Jillibus
hey scouser, and a Happy New Year to you also.
And you GrannyRose-and-resident-medicine-lady!
Granny -- xx -- you're sweet
lol, scouser...and jilli, so are you!!
I have got halfway through this grid and ground to a halt. Looks like a Babblet-store.
scouser, my primary interest is medication and it's effects on us. i actually achieved honours marks in pharmocopiea
Maybe I'll be able to sleep better tonight -- been waking up every 2 hours or so, then going to jigidi for a bit. Scouser -- what are RSIs?
Brill Grannyrose. Jillibus - repetitive strain injuries ! In my youth I think they were referred to as fibrositis for posh.
good point about pain and BP, granny. I get the shakes periodically because of it.
jilli, have you tried cuddling a pillow at night?
Beat me to it GrannyRose - I am a great believer in the "Dutch-wife" or its equivalent variable support for night comfort.
Funny you should ask that, granny -- yes, I have! It's just that staying always on my left side gets *that* side sore eventually, and moving hurts.
the other thing i did, was make sure that when i went to sleep, my shoulder was supported with the opposite hand.
Just something I have to put up with for a while, I guess.
What about making a nest in an armchair and putting feet up and sleeping like that rather than trying to lie down?
understand, jilli....typical of torn muscles.
good option, scouser
Leaning back in a chair is painful, scouser. The only thing that isn't is lying on my left side.
Or standing up or sitting upright.
Bummer, eh?
Thanks for all the suggestions, though -- I'll follow up, definitely.
Poor Jillibus you have been 'in the wars.'
Now -- 12 words to go, heading for morewords! What a miserable grid!
ooohhh, that reminds me, jilli. i made a pillowcase into a sling, and hooked it over the bedpost. it kept my arm at a right-angle...
Well, it was all my own stupid fault for not pulling over to adjust the GPS.
only 12 to go...nice job, jilli.
I have a small pillow I use to support the right arm -- that helps.
Already been using morewords and Lickety and other clues, lol!
happy new year to all...

Happy New Year, babblers! (just got back from Nevada late last night - the desert is spectacular!)
Hi Welki! Happy New Year to you!
lol car.i am fortunate in that i live on the shores of georgian bay right at the base of blue mountain.i can take you skiing.in the summer i can take you kayaking out over the shaols of craiglethe and you can actually see sailing schooner wrecks from the last part of the 1890s reaching up from the depths under your keel.mountain biking the forest trails early in the morning, fishing for spcekled trout at dawn as the morning mist eddys around you and the droplets of condensation run down you line and just as the sun peeks up over the water to burn the water fog away you get a bite:))
(and the palm trees are pretty nifty, crossy - every place has its wonders)
hi welki! Sounds like you had fun!
Except for that "early morning" stuff...I'm in!
what surprised me, sue, is that portions of the desert look like alberta desert terrain (yes, we have desert areas in alberta - complete with cacti!)
sorry, crossy is morning fella.day is pretty well shot for me by 1pm

LOL...hello again ruru
that's a pity, ru - he who hesitates is lost :)
hmmm what about egasm...
ergasm : a symptom that makes your head tilt and makes you groan at the same time
Kap said she wondered if ergasm was a word that physicists use. : D
egasm is a computer climax
egasm=virtual sex,naughty emails...
lol...ruru
don't even ask about Rugasm
Then Frank Cleary said they were all of dealing with their hadrons. : D : D
LOL
lol...missed the hadrons
somehow I feel that ergasm is related to na4/5....
Is there such a thing as a toupee fetish? (rugasm)
ask Donald Trump
Is there a rug doctor in the house?
hi ruru and molly!
gm sue
lol...don't know Jilly...rugdate is in the grid...guess you do that before rugasm
LOL smores!
I am still chuckling...happens everytime I find nar4/5 and na5/12 in a grid....
thank you...forgot to pl it..lol
And I still want to enter oink today.....and onion...and to try gerund endings...
I still have 40 left but with nothing longer than a 6 I am guessing the -tion ending is not used, seems a waste :-)
lol...I keep seeing oink as well Jilly
It is in one word uusue...
uu...there isn't anything longer than 6
Pretty easy to get nbt/nbs today...
That's what she said, "with nothing longer than a 6"
actually smores rugasm comes first.. then the date>> :D:D:D: D
oops...lol...sorry, I misread your comment uu

yes, so I am finding.
ruby, bonne annee is happy birthday -- so how would I say happy new year?
or am I remembering things wrong?
no no, bonne annee is happy new year; bonne annic=versaire is happy birthday. The problem is with happy anniversary mfor a marriage; it doesn['t exactly exist.
no no, bonne annee is happy new year; bonne annic=versaire is happy birthday. The problem is with happy anniversary mfor a marriage; it doesn['t exactly exist.
This is a nounpoor language!
(sorry for the repeat, twitchy pinkie)
oh! :-D Thank you! I knew there was a confusion somewhere... LOL I wonder if "happy anniversary" doesn't exist because it's taken for granted that its a life-long commitment?
And in that case... BONNE ANNEE!!!!
lol..
or maybe because they don't get married any more.....
they just pacs
rofl ruby!

hi ru, see you here in the grid today
thanks for the 5/12, dan
i think i am, like todd, an idiot. i have no idea what the d in the fourth column is, and i'm sure it's fishworthy
okay, NOT fair to include etui and ignore etagere... *sigh*
doren, if you got wasted last night, you dr5 alcohol
thanks dan. fireworks!
YAY medusa
st 2 days have done them without help! lol
(
thanks stid.. i did not, however.
*Hands Doren some grilled salmon*
:-) glad to hear it! LOL If I have much of anything I fall asleep too fast to enjoy the fireworks.
*whips up a quick beurre blanc sauce for salmon*
woo hoo medusa! yw
Wow Doren, not even one itty bitty glass of wine?
, i have a serious lag heream i alone in that??
down to 22 and eyes failing. back another time *poof*
No lag for me.
hey molly, i didn't say I had no wine, I just said i did not get wasted.
what.............lag...........
*crosses Doren off party-girl list*
but, thanks for the grilled salmon. That I would love right now
I am in the midst of reading an excellent book by the Turkish author Orhan Pamuk, so i found the ra4/8 right away. and i want back on the party girl list, ruru. (not that i really am a party girl, but don't want to lose any status in your eyes)
<---- also not a party girl, guess I miss the list, too, ru
*crosses Rbud off the party girl list too*
<--Can still party her ass off with the best of them : D
HA
go Molly go, you can do it for the rest of us, lol
I can party with the best of them as long as it is before 10pm...
adds bzz to Time restricted party girl list
haven't really been drunk since about 1994, and that was the first time in years, lol - hubby's friends called all over telling people to come and be amazed
I managed to stay up last night to almost 11. Hubs woke me up to wish me a Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary.
We'll put Bea on first shift
just put me on cleanup, that's how our parties usually go. :P
You got married on New Years Day? Cool. Happy Anniversary.
Thanks. New Years Day 2000. 010100
i need a trip to NJ..no selection here alcohol wise.
Are you in a dry county, TO?
no, i am in PA.
PA is state controlled bzz
MD is state controlled too but we have a pretty vast selection.
oh, is it? gee, i did not realize that.
time to go.
PA = Pennsylvania MD= Maryland for all those in other countries who don't know the abbreviations.
agee
Happy New Year to all!
ok, pb for me./ slurping up all the wine
Bea, does North Carolina still have that weird liquor law regarding brown bags for bottles on the table?
Dorens, which book are you reading by Orhan Pamuk?
have some pa dutch light ginger cookies to go with it
Not that I know of, Molly.
I'm dating myself. Apparently liquor by the drink was passed in 1999.
I'm wondering about New Years Eve traditions. Seems like every city in this state has some sort of "drop". Raleigh drops a large brass acorn. Mount Olive drops a pickle. Morehead City drops a crab pot. Beaufort had a pirate drop and there is a small town some where in NC that drops a possum.
I bought a nice wine in Md in the grocery store a block from my son's house.. didn't feel like the old state stores from PA that I remember
Museum of Innocence, owl
We can buy wine and beer in the grocery stores in NC.
Drops a possum...I love it. : D
And now for my Tony Romo joke. Q: Why is Tony Romo like a possum? A: Because he plays dead at home and gets killed on the road. Bah-dum-ching.
Yes, PETA is all over them about it but they are a little back water town and could care less about PETA. The possum is in a cage and it is dropped gently.
it would probably be funnier if i had any idea who tony romo was
Dallas Cowboys quarterback.
love the joke, Molly
oh, okay, then that makes some sense, thanks molly
calls PETR
Thanks, Dorens. Have you read any of his other books?
no, fuzzy, but I'm thinking I'd like to read Istanbul sometime in the future
no, fuzzy, but I'm thinking I'd like to read Istanbul sometime in the future what have you read of his?
I haven't read any of his books, I just checked him out on Amazon when you said you were reading one and it was good. I really enjoy foreign authors.
do you have to read his books constantinople-y?
<---Makes a mental note to not tell football jokes in the chat log anymore.
ha
oh ruru!
what?
well I liked the joke, Molly
molly, why so sensitive? just because I don't pay any attention to football and don't know the people- come on now! I am in a very small minority there and oh ruru was lilek what always said to my punny father... Oh, Daaaaddy!!
I did too.. I can't stand romo or the cowboys
(in response to constantinople-y)
oh..I thought I did something terrible.
I relayed it to my sons who are big redskins fans so they liked it too
I enjoy foreign authors too, fuzzy.. particularly Indian authors ru, you never do anything terrible.. just terrible puns
I know..but my New Years resolution is to make them funnier
<--- likes ruru's puns
Happy New Year to all. Just starting after getting a ham in the oven and a vegetable side dish resting in the fridge. Potatoes are just pupped in and we're going to fancy up the baked potatoes today just to start the New Year off to an embellished beginning.
and hi again all!
hi stidgmere and sue
going out for a walk with the doggie.. it's a gorgeous crisp day here.
bye for now
i treated mslef to brunch but it was awful. i was very disappointed. brunch is a rare treat
have a nice walk ruru
*ees gmere hopefully for an offer of ham*
gorgeous and crisp are far from our weather today. sorry brunch was a disappointment owl. what did you have?
bye ruru!
that is too bad about your brunch, TO! real bummer to think you are treating yourself and then it's no good :-(
well i ordered a western sandwich. what i got was a lot of flat brown eggs with two pieces of ham and two pieces of pepper and a couple of onions.
he sue, hny
so i am sitting here eating chocolate mousse peeps and cookies
a friend brought red velvet cookies with crushed candy canes... unbelievably good. I managed to rescue one from my granddaughter, who has an unerring eye for the best (eats La Tur cheese, when other, more child-friendly cheeses are set out)
we haven't had much eating frenzy this season; we're going to an orange bowl party tonight (assuming we are both up to it) and I am researching gluten free sweet potato recipes that use things I already have (we are supposed to bring orange food). Or maybe I will just bring oranges.
they sound interesting. i am conflicted, did not bake enough and so must bake today or decide not to bake at all
uu: how about clementines? they are usually a big hit.
I can do that, TO, we just bought a lot of clementines day before yesterday
sweet potatoes are already gluten free?
Only orange food? That is a menu limiter.
they are indeed, TO. Frank can't digest wheat gluten, which is also in barley and rye, but potatoes of all sorts are fine.
what constitutes "did not bake enough"? You have some sort of quota??
I just had a delectable piece of sweet potato pie nearly fresh from the oven (recipe in profile, just sub SP's for pumpkin - using up the ones I bought for Thanksgiving and didn't cook then.) Before lunch, muahahaha! had to try it.
hey how about cheetos? Cheez Whiz?
I suspect any sort of food would be fine, Molly, but orange is the theme and I thought sweet potatoes (which I happen to have a few of) would be nice.
i have clementines coming out of my ears. I have been putting them in my kids' christmas stockings for years. Since the days when I had to go into Manhattan to buy them!! And this year, not only did I give them to them, and have a bunch left over, but they brought them to put in my stocking. silly children!
creamsicles, sue?
in order to give out more cookies, i would hae to bake more. or decide some folks jsut don't get themt his year.
have also baked extra filling in ramekins without crust many times, it's almost as wonderful that way. very custardy. no fancy ingredients.
that would work too, Doren, but I was trying to avoid shopping
tandoori chicken is kinda orange, and delicious
rbud, i have a recipe for pumpking custard served with sherry whipped cream. lighter than pie.
I'm looking at your recipe, rbud, and I have all those things except the crust, so maybe I will make a crustless sweet potato pie
mmmm, sounds great, TO!
made pumpkin cheesecake this year and it was sooo good. put the leftover in ramekins and loved that as well. your recie does look good rbud
uu that sounds good.
sue, I just steamed the peeled sweet potatoes and mashed them with my potato masher, and measured it same as pumpkin.
yes, they work great when steamed. i even steam them bfore candying them. that is a very wuick cook
sounds very doable. I also looked up a recipe for roasted orange sweet potatoes that looks easy; I don't have any orange juice but I do have mango so that should work.
I'll let you all know what I wind up doing and how it works out :-)
i love home candied, with lots of orange juice and zest insterad of loads of sugar.
steamed sweet potatoes (mashed with nothing else at all in them) was one of our daughter's faves when she was a baby, I mostly made all my own baby food for her.
i did not like them until well into adulthood. funny, one would think the opposite.
she's now at least 6 ft tall, so I guess it worked okay, lol
oh heck, if only I had know o.O
sweet potatoes are a superfood, no question about it. I just don't uderstand why people put so much sugar in them, and gunk them up with marshmallows. Baked, they are perfect - don't even need butter, just some nicely seasoned salt ( i keep a salt/allspice mixture handy just for sweet potatoes)
I like chunky peanut butter on sweet potatoes
I like them with just a bit of butter and salt, and a fair amount of pepper. odd, but tasty, at least to me. everyone looks at me funny when I pepper them. don't like the marshmallow treatment either.
hm. that might be good, should try it sometime
the peanut butter, i mean
the marshmallows are yucky with them, to me.
sigh...trying to nap
really smores? i find chat rarely leads to napping
not working...
i like them with a bit of butter and salt. sometimes i will sprinkle a bit of cinnamon sugar
instead of butter
I know...alarm set for 4:30...gotta work tonight
find a really boring tv show that you can just listen to without looking at. then close your eyes. works for me like a charm
which, today, would be everything on
lol...
i haven't turned the set on, so i dunno. anyway, gotta go. enjoy the day everyone
I do the opposite---put on a movie I'm dying to see...fall asleep right in the middle.
bye.
bye dorens :)
bye, doren!
i am watching the mummers
Hi Mimi :)
((smores))
Oh, I remember the mummers - we used to get the Philadelphia stations when I was a kid (in NJ) and used to watch them
hi mimi!
(sue)
i think i would like to get this sucker done and move on for the day.
I'm finding this one difficult...maybe I'm just not inspired....back pain today and it makes me cranky.
It seems to be a tricky one, mimi! Sorry about the back pain :-(
te5/12pls?
te + double vowel + consonant, babblet
I'm upset that the entire animal kingdom is always recognized. The "bird" is here but wouldn't accept tegu for the lizard....tsk, tsk.
gee, did not even see that babblet! ty, and good be all
I meant is NOT...
ok, time for a nap, bbl!
OK---in pain and cranky so going to give up for now. Have a good day, all.
happy new year
you americans are strange, I've never heard of adding sugar or marshmallows to sweet potatoes. They are perfect as they are
Really? I haven't either so maybe we're not all as strange as you seem to think? ;) That sounds pretty bad.
And agreed... they're perfect as they are. With a little butter, salt and pepper on them.
And Happy New Year people!
why are you negative, neil?
you don't seem to be very negative...
The moniker's a joke.
Pertaining to my comically "negative" blogging style. I tend to rip on everything mercilessly. :P
need te 5/12 to finish
te + double vowel + consonant
scieice, TO clued it at 2.05 pm
Hi lilliann. :)
hi all and Happy NewYear to all :)
ty missed that one!

And same to you, lilliann. :)
How is your daughter doing Lilliann?
lets hope it is good one for all :)
Yes, lilliann... and a much better one for your daughter and all of you!
she is doing really well molly, she still gets tired easily and either has a nap or just rests on her bed during the day and she says that her knees and hip are painful but she is battered and bruised, so that is to be expected.her black eye has nearly gone and as far as we know her bleed and fractured bones are healing well.thanks for asking :) we are looking forward to going to mexico next week so she can complete her recovery before going back to school
Good, you three deserve a vacation.
thanks neil
Good grief! What happened?
You're welcome lilliann... glad to see she's doing so well. Must be such a relief for you all. :)
What ever it was, wishing you and your family well for the New Year.
And remeber kids heal wonderfuuly.

Hi hego and Happy New Year.
A terrible ordeal for your family.
Happy New Year Neil!
Yes, had to be.
Thanks hego. :)
: )

Hey. Sounds like your 2013 will be a big improvement over 2012.
Have a great, restful time.
lets hope so neil, i have my fingers crossed :)
I'll drink to that anyway. Heck, I'll drink to just about anything. :P
we will hego.has anyone here been to mexico?

Yes. For a week.
lol neil, me too. i'm looking forward to rum and even tequila :)
Acapulco.
Americans go there a lot.
Yum, lilliann... if you need any help with that just let me know. ;P
Be kind of hard to file transfer booze though.
lol
we are going to playacar, sorry i had to look at the reservation to see where :)
it is about 35 km away from cancun, i think
Sounds like Yucatan maybe? east coast?
Oh yeah, ok. That's near Cancun isn't it?
Haha, yeah.
Saw you had typed that just after I hit "Enter".
Playa De Carmen? You'll have a wonderful time! Hi all...
yes, I thought so. Very nice, quiet, beachy.
Hi ChampFit!
Hi Champ
Hello and happy new year!
will do neil, i'll attach straws together and send them over the border for you :)
Haha, thanks. They'd have to be very long straws though. I'm not in San Diego anymore you know.
yes, i think it is playa de carmen.one of the holtels is the rui yukatan, we are staying in the smallest of 5 all around eachother
Even to reach that far they'd be super long.
don't worry, i'll think of a way to get it too you, balloons maybe?? lol
beaches, beverages, breezes...wonderful!
I'd go for smaller. And nowhere near a race track. :P [don't ask]
Haha @ balloons!
now i'll have to ask! race track??
it will be champ :)
Uhhh, yeah. F-1 car race, going around our entire hotel late at night... which we didn't realize until we got there after a looong flight from L.A. and after no sleep for about 24 hours. :/ Feel my pain?
we can use the other hotels facilities and apparently they use our beach, but being in my chair i now just stay by the pool so hopefully that will be quieter

Hello everyone Happy New Year :)
hi sadie.Happy New Year :)
hi lilliann ty
At the top of the list was "fiscal cliff". The two I would have voted for are "bucket list" and "superfood".
i'm loving your icon picture. are they your dogs?
yes ty sophie in the back shiela along the side and missy closest to the cam
they are all cute. are they related?
actually no they are all rescue dogs
and ty they are cute lol
aww, that's great.byt the looks of it they all get on?
oh yea they do
weve had four at a time and tey get along great
boxers are very gentle dogs
do you always get boxers?
nope before the boxers we had weims
boxers look fiercer than they are
wiemaraners big grey dogs
they were also rescues
boxers are lovers they just want love and praise
ours are very spoiled
i LOVE Weimeraners.i had one years ago. he was a long haired one and my friend who breeds them gave him to me as he was going to get shot by a farmer as he would run of with the bitch they had puppies with and bring wild deer down but also killed a few sheep so he warned her twice which was very nice of him and so i had him as we lived on a cliff, away from sheep.he was the softest dog you ever met, but my friend kept using him to breed with
'silver ghosts'
they look it sadie :)
they are good dogs also boxers and weims both are big dogs that think they are lap dogs rofl
lol, yes they do, i remember my weimeraner used to come under the cover in our bed and sleep in the middle of me and my ex husband..lol
bichons are lap dogs who know they are lap dogs and nothing else
lol bichon they are so cute :)
and don't they know it. Of course their coats are high maintenance
bichons are lovely too.hi bichon. my mam and dad's last rescue dog was a cross between a bichon and poodle
i was going to say they need alot of grooming :)
lots of Bichopoos in this world.
luckily enough it wasn't a big poodle...would have looked a bit weird!! lol
bichopoos, love it lol
I never understood breeding a poodle with a Bichon.
i dont either bichon
I never understood breeding a poodle with anything
I can understand breeding a non-shedding dog like a Poodle or a Bichon with a shedding dog like a Lab or Golden
Poodle do tend to be more high strung than Bichons
<---not a fan of Labradoodles and Goldendoodles
me neither, but i suppose because they are slightly similar maybe..
hi ruru
i always wanted to breed a dachshund with a newfoundland.i envision a dog 3 niches off the ground,5 feet long and weighs 175 ponds;)
inches
People pay lots of money for a Labradoodle or a Goldendoodle. What if the shedding trait comes out.
we always had toy poodles when i was growing up and they were soft as anything.i used to push one in my pram with blankets over it when i was younger and she would just lay there and let me do it :)
awww thats sweet :)
rofl cross on breeding dach with newf
that's sweet Lili. My granddaughter tries to put doll clothes on mine
Why am I not surprised that crossy would dream that up.
Good Evening, Everyone. And I hope you all had a Happy New Year too. :-)
hahahaha i get alot of pics on fb of dressed up pets all with the same look "really??"
what an odd combination crossy! i couldn't even imagine what it would like, and can you imagine a dachund giving birth to a newfoundland!! painful!!! lol
hi Nef Happy New Year :)
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!
lol bichon. i must admit, i never did that :)

sadie, are those your dogs?
Hello Uneaixoise! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hey, min
Well, ruru; the carpet under my computer should get an F; an E is a bit too clean I think.
<---dylan is untying my shoes
he's under my desk
aawwww
...shedding
yep, i have an under-desk shedder as well :-)
Our cat lays under my desk and sheds there too.
:-D
*Passes around Dyson Deluxes to all*
Every time I get up and leave my chair, she gets in the seat and sheds there too til I come back and push her back onto the floor. so my black pants are full of grey kitty fur on the back all of the time now
oooohhh, thanks!
Thanks, Molly; it would definitely help
i'm a walking ad for lint rollers
ok, i give up -- what's the di6?
sorry, Une; I don't have it
nm found it! firewords!
One who wants to lose weight

thanks, Molly
YAY, UNE!!!! WTG!!!!

tx nef :-)
oh, Man! I need a nap! I keep dozing off here (and it's 5:15 PM). Bad timing for a nap.....
BBS
*Crosses Nef off the party girl list* : D
hi all
<---- needs a nap too, have the flu or something like, keep waking up coughing, no fun. basically been up for two days.
*Passes the cool air humidifier and the Vicks to Rbud*
stinks, too, because I have several projects I'd like to tackle between remodel prep and sewing, but can't focus long enough to think straight. :(
Hi suefrad625! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid.
thanks, Moll, sounds lovely. :)
It will all still be there when you get well, Rbud. Get your rest.
I think I'm headed out of the worst of it, actually - this is usually the stage where I start to get laryingitis - I sound worse but feel better by that point.
the ha6 plz
ha 6/27 is h + Archie Bunker's wife, but change first letter.
Hello movieman! How are you doing welcome to the chog.
had to look up archie bunker on wikipedia, hadn't heard of him
Wow, I thought "All In The Family" was internationally known.
nope, molly
Archie's wife was a saint. :)
That's kind of funny because it was based on a British show "Till Death Do Us Part".
putting up with his nonsense, lol
and the two of them couldn't be more different from their characters in real life - both really intelligent nice folks.
but that's good acting for ya. :)
That's true. The not so great actors just play themselves all the time (Julia Roberts).
i agree. those kind just have to show up, walk through, collect money. getting by on their looks and such. Meryl Streep is another I like, she's drastically different in everything she does.
I even liked Mama Mia, lol, I hate to admit. Sad that poor Pierce Brosnan sings so badly, hahaha!
but at least he had the gumption to do it!
any clues for sa6/27?
sa + s**** and spice and everything nice?
tx rbud
yw
need a clue for ar5/12
nm found it
Hello majmom! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
D's Dangled! 2 left
Good morning :)
Hi
I try to imagine that somewhere it is tomorrow morning.
Kaplan it is morning here
And summer too. Do books that talk about frigid January weather seem weird to Aussie kids>
White Christmas is weirder
Not sure about that but being a Brit with a winter birthday, it's really odd now having a summer birthday
Much better.
Christmas in July is something that seems weird here!
Or is that just a QLD thing?
Nope we do it here but in July in the Snow
But it isn't July. Even Christmas in LA seems weird to me. How do you have Christmas with palm trees?
Like up at Falls Creek or The Dandenongs.
Here it's just wherever! Lots of restaurants advertise it! And Kaplan - it is in July! I think people must think it cooler then and be more inclined to trad dinner!
No palm trees in our yard just a great big old Fir tree
There is Christmas in July? Really? What do you do in December- have the 4th of July?
I'm so culturally astute.
LOL!
;)
Decorations here are all solar powered!
We don't celebrate American Days like 4th July we have Australia Day which is the 26th Jan
So Santa does the whole thing in Australia in July? And the Nutcracker and everything?
I know, I'm kidding.
I get my Aussie citizenship this Australia Day!!!!!
I'm not that dumb.
But you can have fireworks anytime.
No you can't they are banned
I miss Guy Fawkes Night!!!
On Babble you can have them. Banned fireworks? Like banned assault weapons?
Or Nov 5th - in UK - fireworks night!
Only public displays here in Aus
I'm moving to Australia. Fireworks scare me.
They're beautiful - from a distance!
You think there are no fireworks in Australia?
Oh, public ones. OK. I always feel like I'm watching a city being bombed.
No. I'm just being stupid for the new year.
Ahh, yeah... just read that.
I LOVE fireworks, but the scare the bejeezus out of my dog
I think they scare all dogs.
And probably cats too.
There ya go.
Kaplan, check your email much?
Yeah, why?
You didn't see mine?
Yahoo...
Hi
You sent me an email?
when?
Could be in your junk/spam folder on there.
Yep.
A few days ago I guess?
Hi Neil and Min :)
From what sender?
You'll see why when you see it.
Hi herin and Lizlin. :)
Me.
Same username @ yahoo.
I know- I mean- your user name? Let me check my spam.
hi all. any clues for the very first ca 5 18? stumped.
Yeah. It's the only one I use online.
ca 5/18 word rhymes with what policemen wear mkg & hi!
Hi mkg - no, don't have it!
did you spell my name right? it's not there.
send it again, willya?
The ca 5/18 word rhymes with b**** of honor Lizlin & mkg.
Oh, ok. It's not there?
If it didn't get there the first time I'm wondering if it will this time? But I'll try. Put my Babble player name @yahoo in your address book.
b of honor? dont get it. maid of honor, guest of honor but b of honor?????????????

how about ca 6 21 the last one?
ca6/21 word is Chevy Chase movie Christmas Vaca**** mkg

yw
Well I am going to go and see if I can get a few things sorted

ty. is this a word?????????????????
now trying to find first di 5. any clues?
Hagn herin :)
I will try
that was meant to be hagd!!!!!!
Ok. I just sent it again.
And I dunno... does it? :P
I just thought our latkes might make you hungry.
hello everyone - Happy New Year!
They turned out very well. :)
ty for all clues by the way. and happy new year to all.
Hey cybernan. Happy New Year to you too!
Got it! Lovely! I am the only Jew I know who hates latkes. Can't be in the same room when they are cooking. But very pretty people!
Really Kaplan? Wow... we love them. :)
Ours were delish.
Hello cybernan! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog.
Everyone does.
And thanks for the compliments... of course you mean the ladies, not me. :P
I'm an anomaly.
No, you're cute too, especially tipsy.
kaplan something may be genetically wrong with you. perhaps there is a goy in your line or genes?
how can you hate oily stuff? that is what they add to make sugarless cakes good.........more oil.....
Possibly a Cossack interfered somewhere. But east Europeans like potato pancakes too, so I don't think that's it.
maybe it is the onions in them you hate kaplan? you can make them without onions you know.
I think I have taught myself to despise greasy food. But I never liked them even as a kid, and I liked other greasy things, till I found out what was in them.
Kishkes and stuffed derma- eeech.
di 5: di + expire
i think if you were starving enough it would make a difference..............my grandmothers make schmaltz and gribinez and yummy. that is how you extended a chicken to feed more people. you had boiled potatoes with schmaltz and gribenez. ummmmmmmmmm. so delish.
Any clues for the ha6?
And I'll never forget the day when, after years of eating deli tongue sandwiches, my mother actually cooked a tongue and brought it to the table...
and it was a TONGUE!
ha 6/27 is h + Archie Bunker's wife, but change first letter.
Ah, heart disease.
Hi smithchick! How are you doing today? Welcome to chat.
Okay. Thanks!
a TONGUE!!!! It was traumatic.
Me, Kaplan? Ugh. :P I'm a dork.
I've been a vegetarian for almost 40 years.
I'm well. Trying to shake a case of bronchitis. How are you?
And yeah... a tongue is a tongue is a tongue.
Ugh. I've had that and it's no fun... get well soon, smithchick.
I will not ask what you are doing with a case of bronchitis. It should be a case of liquor this time of year.
It has been here. :P
I am sorry to hear of your bronchitis. I am trying the shake the "return to work blues". Other than that,I am doing well
ha kap
imagine: you have ten children and a husband to feed. you can afford one chicken. you then must use all parts. so you boil it in soup and take it out and roast the chicken after much of it has gone into the soup. you then use the fat you took from it and the skin you took away and cut the skin, and put that wiyth the fat in a pan in the oven iwth the roasting chicken. you cook the fat to be liquid and the tiny pieces of skin become the gribinez. the fat is the schmaltz. so after the soup is eaten, and the chicken is eaten, you have boiled potatos with schmaltz and gribeniz. yummy. but you onlyt have a week to use the schmaltz or it goes bad. so hurry up! my mom rendered the schmaltz all the time and dad would smell it first and when it went bad he was really upset. and then: MAGIC, they invented margerine which was pareve and he could eat that on his potatos!!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A big fat cow tongue. I thought it was some sliced meat on rye bread with cole slaw, euphemistically named tongue to distinguish it from corned beef or pastrami.
Oh, I know, mkg. It's how my father grew up.
kaplan, there is nothing wrong iwth tongue. i mean we are eating muscles when we eat meat anyway. right? so what is the difference between a calf muscle and a tongue muscle? my parents at brains, and livers and spleens and all lkinds of organs.
ewwwwwwwwwwwww
There's a great book called 97 Orchard St that describes the food of 5 different ethnic families- German, Russian Jewish, Irish, Italian, and German Jewish who lived at that address.
they have some spleening to do
i need clues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a vegetarian since I was 19.
I don't eat my shoes.
I'm going veggie after reading that.. ewwwwww
i will look up the book. sounds interesting./ but i am from polish and russian jewish heritage....
kaplan, i understand. a vege.............good for you.
Ah, a Galitzianer?
I thought you finished mkg. I am writing a story right now.
half galitzianer.
min i havew 27 left to get.
My husband has been a vegetarian since he was 14.
I am with ruru. Ewwwwwwwww
kaplan i am 65. my kids dont know from gribinez except my baby because i decided one pesach to make schmaltz and gribinez and he loved it.
I hope to god someone doesn't ask me which wine to pair with a spleeen
I always thot "head cheese" was the worst eupemism
my daughter was vege from age 10 but gave it up when she got pregnant with first child.
I made myself really sick on my grandmother's gribinez when I was a teen!
what is head cheese..................?
that's really gross bugs..
really lizlin? gee, how many jews are on this chatterbox?
I'm popping off to visit with my sister who is here from California for a visit. Thanks again!
I've 57. I don't know how I got that old.
bugs are head cheese? yuk.
Looks like an interesting book Kaplan - I'll look it up!
Can I bring up the one time I got offended on the chog?
A lot I reckon!!!!
sure Kaplan (Hope it wasn't me)
kaplan we all age quicker than seems possible. life flies by.
Hi all!
offended?
Happy New Year!
hi nrkii
Hi nrkii :)
hope i didnt offend you.
hi nrkii
head cheese is actually the head of an animal boiled until there is just bits of meat and jelly. I thot it was cheese which I loved and was as shocked as Kaplan by the tongue
Someone who I like very much said that the two singers she happened to hate were Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand, because they were too brassy and aggressive and I felt it was so coded, not conscious, but it really stood out for me.
oh do i need clues. the eg 5 14 please? it is the last eg.
Sorry to interrupt the chat, but wanted to mention that my mom totally traumatized me a couple years back by telling me that she has eaten... and cooked... and skinned and gutted... squirrel.
I love Bette Midler.. I like Barbara Streisand
big bird, mkg
eg 4/14: I reg*** eating too much food on Christmas mkg.
They cooked squirrel on UK Celebrity Masterchef - have to admit I was surprised!
wow nrkii. wow.......................
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww nrkii
Oh Kaplan, I would not take that as coded at all. Unless you meant coded for New Jersey. LOL.
ty for clue. got it min.
I was having a weepy day the other day and watched The Way we Were, and bawled my eyes out. It's not even that good of a movie.
I admire their voices but not my taste in music!
Hi ruru... Happy New Year and LOVE the profile!
Yeah, but I didn't say anything to the person.
ty for clue. got it.
Hiya neil
There is a brassy type, but I think it goes across religions and cultures. It seems to have a happy home in parts of Jersey though, which I kind of LOVE.
clue for first di 5 14 please.
Bette Midler pop music- meh--live in concert- fantastic.
sa 6, please?
It might be a cultural thing.. but there's a lot of stuff I can't even think about eating
the worst surprise I ever had was as a little kid I came into the kitchen and saw a huge tin of shortening. I thot it looked like a huge batch of white icing and it would be worth the consequence if I scooped a big chunk out with my finger and popped it in my mouth............. ewwww
di 5/14 word rhymes with "there she goes just a walking down the street singing doo-wah di***, di*** dum di*** doo.
Squirrel- now that's goyish.
oh yuk bugsaw. horrible. crisco glop in the mouth. ewwwww.
s + wood drill nan
twinkies have a ton of lard in them
ty for di word.
Maybe your twinkie does, Ruru, but not mine.
ty ruru
Yuck, bugsaw. What a nasty surprise!
ru dont know wood drill.
sa 6/27 word is s plus a hand tool with a bit shaped like a corkscrew, for boring holes in wood cybernan.
yes they do kaplan
Actually, I don't have a twinkie. Or a Ding Dong.
Oy vey Kaplan... he'll run with that one.
I do have a ho-ho.
Just watch...
*bracing myself*
(need to double check what twinkie Kaplan is talking about
He has Sno-balls.
happy new year all , so long 2012!!

Congratulations mkg on your fireworks display! Good for U
Hello wht! How are you doing today? Welcome to the grid.
Tired - stayed up for last night - got up early to start cooking and see Rose Parade, had family in for dinner, now getting things cleaned up - but it was a good day
how are you Min
I am not looking forward to having to set the alarm and go to work in the morning.
good part of being retired - can sleep in tomorrow morning
I so hear you wht! I have not touched my alarm in 12 days!
i'm wsith you on that one wht. it seems like years since i've been at work, but haven't quite gotten the rest we're supposed to have on vacations
I'm well wvteach, but not looking forward to going to work
I haven't been to work since last year some time.
who's being silly?
May I please have a clue for ca5-18? Thanks
ca5,14 Change the first letter and you have what a police officer wears.
A ca5/18 word rhymes with what policemen wear gapeach
Hello gapeach! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
cadonut
Thanks much, wht and Min.
oops that's what police eat
Ok ru. :P
yw
I sure get a lot of tongues stuck out at me lately
Oh ru... after seeing your Babble profile, thought you'd appreciate what I just sent you... check email.
happy new year all
Hello Dorens! How are you doing? Happy New Year to you!
Happy New Year Dorens.
i'm getting by min, not quite ready to get back to work tomorrow, are you?
And Min.. and everyone.
I am SOOO not ready for work tomorrow. At least it's 3 days
Fireworks.
Congrats wht.
I feel your pain Min. I'd like another day off too.
i used to actually enjoy getting back. not anymore, sadly Yay Wht!!
But not getting it.
It will probably take me the three days this week to just remember what I was doing before vacation.
Ha.
Must've had a damn good holiday then huh?
A bad holiday is better than a good day at work.
Congratulations wht on your fireworks display! Way to go!
And it was not a bad holiday.
have you always disliked your work why?
whT, not whY
I am done! I have fireworks! ca 5/18 word was my last one
Yay Min!
Actually I mostly enjoy my work, Dorens. But I like holidays better.
congrats min
oh, that is good then. I think good days at work are better than bad holidays. don't know if i've ever had a bad holiday though
up until the last year or so, i was always very excited about getting back to work at the end of the summer. Education just isn't what it used to be, and there is too much tension in the atmosphere for educators (at least in nj there is)
I really enjoy my job too wht but yeah... time off is still much better.
Congrats, wht!!!!!!
fireworks here too
YAY doren and wht!
dorn, do you have a moment for advice on teaching?
sure, but not sure my advice is worth much
and hey all, just getting back in after accomplishing most of my "to-do" list for today! :-)
wwe are all here for any advice - what kind?
It's worth OODLES. I just don't have extra cash...
I am subbing in for someone for two days -- Thurs and Fri, middle school. Haven't taught for him before, and the kids will be just getting back from vacation. This tends to be a someone rough school, rural, but new to my rotation -- I won't know the kids yet. How to help them transition back?
I was thinking that I should at least give the first period class a chance to talk about the vacation and re-connect with their classmates.
hah! that's a good one. middle school is tough enough already. do the kids know you at all from other classes?
what subject area? taught mainly elementary, but always liked to do goal setting for coming year
NO. I will have met a handful, once about two months ago.
Don't know the content area for sure (website is not up to date), but I think this is a social studies teacher.
I've learned that vacations in schools such as mine and the one i was in before (east orange) vacations were not what you'd expect... too many kids do nothing but tv and video games .. not much to talk about vacation.
Almost any other school I would already "have their number" and be able to read them pretty well.
And a lot of the kids are in "homes" that aren't necessarily safe or warm or have any food...
I've learned that vacations in schools such as mine and the one i was in before (east orange) vacations were not what you'd expect... too many kids do nothing but tv and video games .. not much to talk about vacation. goal setting is good, but usually with the teacher they know, rather than a newbie
Yes, fairly high poverty for this school, and being rural not a whole lot to do this time of year because it's so wet.
the teachers in my school really want subs to follow their lesson plans most of all -- but then again some don't leave very much
Pretty sad, actually... yes a lot of the kids in the schools all over the area are big video game and movie watchers, not too much on the creative or active sides.
the teachers in my school really want subs to follow their lesson plans most of all -- but then again some don't leave very much
I almost always follow the plans the best I can -- but again haven't worked for the teacher and concerned that I want to be able to meet the kids' energy and emotional levels.
Once in a while the plans don't make sense or the kids really don't seem ready for what the teacher intended. But I can roll with that. ;-)
you're there for two days - can you do a "getting to know you" activity the first day and fit the lessons in to the two days after getting to know them
Ah... that sounds like a good idea -- yes, I can adapt and adjust in a two-day frame. Any ideas for getting to know you ideas?
interview each other and choose 2 or 3 things to report to group - make a bingo grid with features about student (a nd you) in each square, try to find five in a row, have student sign if it fits them (like has a brother, wears glasses, likes the color purple, read a book over vacation) - pull something out of a bag (strange objects) and tells how it relates to them, how they would use it
for fireworks, te 5/12, pls
Yes! I can do those!
bichon: babblet: TE + double vowel + consonant
or just one of them
te + double vowel + consonant
I was thinking different classes, different games. I will probably repeat a few of the kid in the course of the day.
ty Molly, that's it for me
YAY bichon!
Congratulations bichon on your fireworks! Hooray for you!
hello Min! welcome (back) to the grid!
Hello stidmama! How are you doing? Happy New Year to ya
stidmama, you could do a treasure hunt with the getting to know activity with the students. For example give the kids a piece of paper of 10 - 20 things that they have to find (find somebody who is left handed or find someone who is double-jointed).Once they find that person, they right their name on the treasure hunt paper. You would also participate in that activity.I did this with my middle school students when I taught summer school last year.
Thanks Min -- I'll add that one in to the mix. :-)
Any of the other middle and high schools I sub in I could just step right in, no worries. But I am just a little concerned that the kids here have evidenced discomfort with unfamiliar adults in the past. Oh well, I guess after two days of me I won't be unfamiliar anymore! LOL
How log are the periods in middle school where you teach?
This middle school should have 50-55 minutes.
They don't have block periods as far as I know.
Middle school periods in my school are 47 minutes. It is the longest 47 minutes of my life when I have to cover a class.
those are awfully short time slots to get kids (of any age) oriented and working at any depth.
If students could just sit down and take a seat like they are supposed to,there would be plenty of time to teach. My 1st graders get settled quicker than the 7th and 8th graders.
I get "grumpy" with kids when they waste their learning time...
I think that so much time is wasted in middle school.I think the teachers should be switching classrooms not the kids. It would save so much time and there would be no chaos.
I had some kids several weeks ago, students I know really well, who were wasting their learning time. I let them know that they would have time to do work in class and if it didn't get done in time it would be homework. They didn't like that and told me their teacher (a friend of mine) didn't assign homework. I smiled and said that I was giving them time to work in class, and that the assignment was due first thing the next day... they quieted right down and worked well from that point on.
That's an idea, Min -- although the hyper-specialization of content areas might make this difficult. As well as teachers not being able to check phone or email quickly between classes. I wonder if there is anyone who has tried that model?
I do not know. I am sure it is something that would have to be worked out with the union if there is a union.
Oh well... I need to go get more tea and rest my eyes. Hope you'll have a lovely day tomorrow, Min.
Down to 17. See you-all again another time. Thanks again for all the great advice! *poof*
makes it much harder on the teacher not having books, supplies in their own classroom - have to carry things with them - one school here used it when overcrowded and didn't have space
Goodbye stidmama! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
That is true wvteach. I think any model of teaching has its advantages and disadvantages. For ESL, push-in & pull-out programs both have their advantages and disadvantages.
I prefer pull-out, but administrators seem to prefer push-in
i was in special ed and there was always the issue of that as well
How do you feel about an inclusion program? My district has it, but does it the wrong way, just like everything else they do.
i cop out and say that it strictly depends on the child - their level of abilities, types of disabilty, their personality. The severely handicapped do not need inclusion - they need to have their special needs met. Those who are very disruptive in the regular classroom are taking away from too many others and need more behavioral and emotional needs met.
With inclusion you also need to provide the support in the classroom with the special educators or aides accompanying the students and helping as needed (with all students)
I do not know enough about it to have an opinion, but I know that some people like & some don't like it.There's only one spec. ed class in my building and it's a a combo of fourth, fifth and sixth grade. I see two spec. ed kids.
Love participating in teacher-chat,but I have to go.Thanks for the conversation wvteach. Happy New Year&goodnight
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I will see you tomorrow.
good night Min
