yes mel!!!!
which 2?
well, I've reached 100 :(
? - i have the money , the cover, the bark, stop, & the hogwarts gaem
*game*
jilli - don't neglect suffixes - some words have 3 or more versions w/suffix combos.
how about the horse race helen
like i know what any of the words mean (LOL) - just tell me which point counts you're missing!
ta, melon - I've found a lot of words with 3 forms or so!
lol mel - don't know haven't gone to list yet
ls1 - i don't see secretariat there, is it me? lol
ahhh - well, i reached 200 - found my 200th on skid row.....
it's a bet on a combination of races
oooh, ooh - i know that one!

jili - it's only vaguely like the game - not the whole game
qu list; 4/8,5/18,5/16,4/7,7/40,6/27,5/16,4/7,6 /33
ty ls1
well, it's kinda sort the hogwart game , minus - not the ego - not the super ego - - -

hey !! 2 grey boxes - yippee!
wooHoo, hk!
cr8 - crosby & his ilk.
I have 2 greyu boxes too - bottom right *giggles*
thanks, mel
ch8 - longest running bway show, plural, less pirates & us.
{giggling right along with you -heheheh-teeheeteehee}
fantastics??? doesn't fit......... 8)
pirates????
fantastiks was off-broadway - think singular sensation.
piraty sound
oooooh - thanks
got'em, melon -ta (grateful for biochemistry)
i thought cats was the longest running broadway show?
not that i can get the clue, but i get the basis...
I thought it was The Mousetrap - or am I thinking of London (England)
well, jilli, now why didn't i just say chemical? sometimes i'm too clever & this time i may have gotten my facts wrong.
well, jilli, now why didn't i just say chemical? sometimes i'm too clever & this time i may have gotten my facts wrong.
mousetrp is England.
Morning all! TO 7/36 and 8/50 - no dictionary definition, but I know the word as a lace maker.
no melon, i think it is the longest running, or at least it was
hiya sue
Morning Helen!
i think ls 1 is right
reminds me of a tshirt i saw - this one was a souvenir for the stagehands in "Les Miz": "I Laughed, I Cried, It Was Longer Than Cats"
Hello Sue - how do you like the size of this one!
even after CL came back? -- or does that not count?
A little large for me, but there are some good words in there.
thanks, melon, finally got it.
whee, joey! laila tov, everyone - must get up in 5 hours & drive the kid to marching band.
night and thanks again
ok melon, just looked it up, they are phantom, les miz, cats, then cl. ugh, i hate andrew lloyd weber!
good nite melon
Night, Melon.
ls 1 - you are my friend - ALW is the very model of a modern insipid tunesmith.
ruination of american theatre!
i agree too
i was supposed to see Pajama Game - unfortunately my train was 2 hours late :( - now THAT's a musical.
OK - a memory before i go. Years ago, Clevland Opera finished its season with a musical. One year we did "My Fair Lady" - we got costumes from the Warner Bros movie - our conductor was Franz Allers, who conducted the original production! What a treat - I especially remember him working magic with "I Could Have Danced All Night".
And My Fair Lady...
Oh, thank God! I thought I was the only person on the planet that didn't like ALW, and hated Cats!
You beat me to it, melon! And have a good night...
Count me in too.
i wish i had musical talent - that sounds awesome melon - you have some way cool stories/memories :)
Kiss Me Kate, My One & Only, Oklahoma, Carousel, Company, Candide, West Side Story,....
my all time favorite west side story
very cool, melon. there was real depth and talent in theatre until he came along and made it like tv
hk, i got to be what i wanted to be when i grew up - it does not get better than that :)
i'm calling it a nite too - only 100 for tomorrow :(
me too. nite all
I played WSS, too - Bebe Neuwirth was Anita - wow.
now, for real, goodnight!
Oooh, such talent, melon! Wowie!
yes melon - you are fortunate, i am still struggling with that 'what i want to be when i grow up'
good nite everyone :)
heken how is it going i just came back
nite, ls1, hk, all! I'm going soon and probably won't be back tomorrow. 244 left now, ugh
well, the growing up part is overrated! bye!
Night jilli!
Not quite yet, sue!
\sue m i can not go to sleep til i get that lacemaker clue
hey
hey scv
you cant rest if you play this game.. one day blends into the next if you only break for a couple of hours!
I believe it's French for "rag" - the cloth the chefs have at their waist. It's a very basic form of lace - usually the first one lace makers learn. It builds from the TH 6/21.
lol
Sorry, that should be TO 6/21!
my goodness i am duncish lol even the clues are hard lol
Try to 5/14 - Medieval flashlight
Actually, I'm misleading you. Start again. TO 5/14 plus ON4/4 but leave one of the vowels out.
thanks, sue and broll. Actually it means dishcloth - I looked it up
broll ty have that
broll - it's still Brit for flashlight!
ooohh dont have to 5.14 yet
o tyty got it
I know, but I didn't think everyone would get that.
sue would - guess the US crowd might not. I'm so lucky to be bilingual <vbg>
may i bug u for a clue to to 5 14?
Primitive from of lighting, Taz or English for flashlight!
Think villagers after Frankenstein's monster, carrying to 5/14s.
taz - see broll at 1:32 and me at 1:38
hmmm yes ji u are right this usa person does not get it lol
got it ty
hought i had it
thought
tilch
oops
start at the top right, taz, and it's a to5/14 -- or did you get it already?
yes ty i got it thought i put in a while a go
ok - your ti un-word had me fooled!
lol
See you all later - I ought to have some breakfast.
by sue
farewell for now, sue!
how can there be so many 1 words wow
mean q
q's ive got, which is odd because im having issues with the ch's
not that one has anything to do with the other.. just figured c's would be easier
just got the q s
morning babblers... a marathon today then!
I'm missing 2 q's - have the money(s), the covering, the prefix(s), the horserace, the stop. Can't figure out the sort-of hogwarts game and one more
hhi
hi seano -- too right
like a wi...
the sort-of hogwarts game? i actually thought of that before but im not sure what you mean
with a pointed hat and green face
phantom - dimwit
like something needs to be scratc...
oops sorry
the only hogwarts game I know of starts with the qu4/8 and ends with di5/16 but that doesn't work here
yeah
scratch and i... qu before it
qu plus skin rash
oh, I see! thanks
yw
OH im terrible
im definitely out of it. i just confused myself to the point where i wasn't sure what you needed anymore
lol
I need one more q word.
you should only be allowed to play every other day. i'm going crazy.
jill which one
scv good point
I have sworn to myself that I will not try to finish anything over 200. :) Did that three days in a row and it took up too much of my time. Of course, insomnia tonite helps me get a start on things
jill is it 6 .27?
how do I know? I mentioned the ones I have
yeah, i decided to go for it because i have a free day tomorrow. and i'd like to enjoy the 8 days i have left of summer.
yes but that post isw long gone
oh - that was before taz flopped all over the keyboard - lol
oh jeez it wasnt me it was my evil twin
well 6.27 is like4..7 add ol for the chemical cmpound
i needed that one as well thanks
that was it, taz - thanks!
sure thing guys glad to help
i wiish i could get babbety list up by the grid so i dont have to go back and forht
taz - if you shrink it sideways it will fit between the grid and the chat
But Lickey's list isn't up yet, is it?
i am not comp smart how do i shrink it and sideways
yes it is up
what a grid to have on first day back! hi all
Jil, lickey's list is up. I am using it now
Oh - I missed it - thanks
anyone have eo 6.18 or 6.21
NP - I wouldn't start without it! :)
hi everyone...
how do u shrink the list?
Im missing qu 7/40
Well, I have 133 words without the list but with a little help from my friends and no time tomorrow so I might as well go to bed now
gf alt spelling of the horse race
go to bed Jil, I will be following soon
jill how do u shrink the list?
gnite jill
taz, you want to resize the window?
Hello??Anyone have the qu 7/40, please? Thanks!
gf i told u
thats the only q im missing, girlfriday :(
scv how would i do that with the cursor?
taz - put the cursor on the right hand edge of the page until it turns into a double-ended arrow, then left-click, hold it down, and move it over toward the left.
put your cursor over the edge of the window and click, hold down, and drag to resize.
tytyty
oh, your instructions are much better
the qu7/40 is a kind of betting thing at a horserace
i clued that below but i am rather see thru lol
no clue about any of this....horse stuff
i fit the grid, word list and chat in a window on the left and a narrower colum on the right side for lickety. i like the set up and dont have to use the mouse unless i want to chat.
er.. which is good for me because i double enter
there's another almost harry potter word in here.
have you heard of a trifecta? If not, take the qu4/7 and add jazz singer Fitzgerald's first name minus one consonant
Another way. Open a new window with the list. Resize it so that it fits over your word list (between the chat and the grid) and when you need to see your words just click anywhere on the Babble page. Does that make sense?
jilli, as always, thanks!
Frances, that's what I do
yw, gf
jilli - so easy
Thanks, Jilli
frances will try ty
thanks jill!
Frances, ity's only easy if you know your way around a racecourse or a betting place. ^^;
*it's
linoes
oh no , sorry!
D'oh thought it was about the clue. ^^;
wow! all these thanks! You're welcome indeed -- and now to bed
Jencatd I meant resizing windows LOL
Ah. That's what happens when you get behind in the chat. ^^;
186 left...off to sleep. Have a good time everyone.
if you put the list over your words, wouldnt the windows go to back/come to front.. back and forth constantly?
just alt/tab to toggle back and forth
thats what i do but this way both are always visible
i can work on my co's with the list of what ive got and where i need to fit new ones in right there
so what's your arrangement again, scv (can't seem to go to bed)?
babbles open on the left, lickety resized to a narrow column on the right
i wish i could put this much energy into finding more words ;p
instead of wasting it trying to figure out the most efficient way of babbling
metababble?
doesn't that cover up the chat?
nope, fits perfectly
i have licketys list up twice: one for for quick word entry, the other one scrolled down to the bit i am concentrating on. after a barrage of entered words, i refresh the second screen and the words pop in
thats an excellent idea seano. thats the only bit that annoys me..
scv Just tried and it does work. Thanks
it saves scrolling up to the word entry bit, then back down again
i might have my resolution set differently
Could be. I can't reduce the size of my babble screen enough to fit the list beside it.
seano.. good idea. that does make it easier
Don't have to scroll Lickety's list if you use the little black square with a question mark in it -
still leaves me 268 words today though ;-)
Now - *poof*
jilli If you click on the middle button at the very top right of your screen - the one with two squares on it - you should then be able to make your page whatever size you want.
not sure i'm up for triple entry
frances (didn't really disappear yet) - I've tried that and it only reduces the size a little
222 left. feels like i haven't started ;p
196 left and its time for bed
right, now to tackle those CO's.
jilli Once you click on that button you should then be able to drag the sides of your page in and out.
seano you type in the letters on licketys right?
And the top and bottom if you want to!
yes taz
or from the corners!
Yep!
yhmmm i was i wasnt a computer nincompoop
if you've figured out this much you aren't a nincompoop!
eo anyone?
I know, but I want it ALL!!! Including the grey (I wsh) boxes - I'll fiddle tomorrow if I have time - thanks
besides 4.4
gnite all
nite taz
bedtime! goodnight
why can't snorch be a word??
Bye. I'm off too. Back tonight.
off for breakfast, bbl, bye all
what would its definition be?
use it in a sentence tomorrow and it'll be a word ;]
hmm... it'd be a verb, and the action would have to sound like it....
okay, i'll think of one :)
hahaa
'snorch' is all kinds of hilarious
snorch is the last snore sound you make before you wake yourself up
that's what i thought, its too funny to not be valid
snakes on a snorch.
pretty darn good, seano!
hehehe...
<snorch>....startled look......''was i snoring?''
lol, i can totally see that, seano
i think that may be the one!
i meant 'SNORCH' obviously
no one snorches lower case
true, unless he's been muffled by his girlfriend's pillow, trying desperately to sleep....
this isn't getting my CO words done!
snake was in the grid yesterday and i almost died laughing because it was the first thing i saw. i think too much about it, i think. & snorch gets you +11 points, word of the week.
i gave up on the co's hallf way. tackle them again tomorrow.
i do that all the time scv, although mine are usually the most disgusting and offensive words on the list. where is my mind??
yesterday was the day for offensive words.... very XXX late nite babble
i know! and when i began the grid it was all i saw! it otold my boyfriend what i saw and he was like ?what kind of game is this??"
LOL
*i told*
but then some words that may seem to be along the same lines arent accepted
i try anyway.
me too, you never know. i wouldnt have thought the cu** word would be accepted
me either
i swore i was going to bed 20 minutes ago.
yeah i think i'm too tired for a 300+ grid
i'm going to. goodnight!
night
yeah, over 200 left at 4 am.. not going to bother
There are not enough hours in the day to cope with 351 words.
gee i thought the only 2 that were here were scv and froelica
:)
Hi All

Hi snowyowl, coming down to your neck of the woods tomorrow for a couple of days, visiting Bill's sister in Bridgend
a neighbour of ours died very suddenly last week. She looked after her young grandchildren like I do. She was quite a bit older than me tho & just had a heart attack, sitting in a garden chair at 8 o'clock in the morning.
Hi Ex Wren! Hiope the weather improves for you. We had a lovely day yesterday although it was cloudy in patches. Gorgeous earlier this morning but the 1st drops of rain are just falling!
The forecast is very bad
Well - I suppose we shouldn't complain because things could be a lot worse, but SOME sunshine would be very nice! I managed to be in Majorca for the 2 weeks of fine weather! You can always spend the time in McArthur Glen!
Ok -first 100 done! Must go & do some chores now. BBL
bye snowyowl
lens

Hi, lynxxx.
Oh look 52 C words!!!!!!!!!
Actually 62 in all - yeek! and I have found 15 - I am sure there was a grid a week ago with less words than that in the whole lot.
Thnx lynxxx - sob!
well, hit the time I need to stop... good luck all!!!!!!
See ya pam
Angb... I think your icon rocks!
I hate Simpsons. But it is a "character" from the show supposedly. Might keep it. Its how I feel sometimes

Hello. Just looking in after ages and ages
The boys LOVE Simpsons!!!
I won't let my kids near the simpsons... but I am mean as a snake!!
hi zubie!
Hi zubie
Hello MrP. Not playing today. 351 is just 200 too many, but I will be looking in from time to time.
Hello ExWren! nice of you to drop in and check on your 'children of babble' LOL!!
Hi Angb, hi mrpresident. What's the grid like tonight?
Anyway I am going down to Wales for three days tomorrow, so that is the rest of the week taken care of too.
Huge, but the words are coming easy. False sense of security though I think
agree angb... might hit the wall before I know it!
break at 100 - my firstborn has come over to chat BBL
ExWren, Wales! you visiting family??
Ok, at least I'm warned :)

well - I just reckon with a grid this size that any possible combination you put in will probably be a word - guess I was wrong though!
and that is a truckload of L's too!
phew! Just finished the first run through. 240. Now if I can just pretend that I'm starting a 111 word puzzle maybe i won't be so intimidated

Hi all! That's odd, I never have to log in, because I never log out. Why did I today?
I've had to do that a few times since we changed servers . . .
hi amanda and une!
hey, mrp!
hi MrP!
Hey AmandaCath - Did you clean out your browser cache?
wow - just back from nowhere -what happened?
I think I did the other day, lickety. I'll check. What happened Wolvie?
amandacath - that could remove your cookie for login for babble and force you to login again. The server move would also do it - as you could have stored it against the playbabble.com not www.playbabble.com
ahhh - it was probably the server move, then. Did we move again last night?
I have no idea - I started to answer eva about her missing 8, and went into nowhere's vil - had to set up the site again - very odd
btw - I emailed DrGod about removing indecent words from the list (like the C word) and he said that he has no plans to remove any words as "That slope is way too slippery"
that is strange, wolvie. Have gremlins moved in with you?
I agree with DrGod.
Aw, c'mon - we're not that prude are we? It's a yucky word, granted, but you don't have to say it, just recognize it. And DrG's right - where would it end?
Well I think if he get's alot of requests for one or a few words, maybe he might.
if my kid came and looked at my list yesterday - it'd be awkward ;-)
no - everything else is working fine - I thought the site was acting up again - it is another 300 word day. ;-)
I agree with Dr God as well, fwiw
yeah I know - It can go the otherway too - Like adding words ;-) Internet for example.
if he tried to eliminate words that are offensive to everyone we'd be seeing 20 word grid
mornin babblers!
morning evan
good morning Evanadine
I think the only way we're going to get a different list if if he changes from Enable or if Enable updates. Drg's got enough to worry about without fooling with the word-lists as well!
hie evan!
I agree also that there should be no 'discrimination' - I have done a mental cringe sometimes thinking that a word would be embarassing to a fellow Babbler BUT where would it start and end?
agreed! Can't wait for his next creation - whatever that might be.
afternoon all :) how many today?
sorry evan, that wasn't a command to get thee gone!
If I found a word that I found offensive and didn't want my children to see it, I would not put it on my word list.
oddly-related, they were just having a discussion on the radio this morning about whether or not tht C-word is offensive to all women... someone had called in + said that it was only white women who found it offensive... i find that hard to believe...
*whew* thanks amanda -- i thought *I* was the only meanie around here...hehe
Mom - We could also put liquid paper on our screens to white it out ;-)
Ahh lickety I prefer the correction strips, it is a lot less work to clean the screen :)
Scrolling ones ;-)
how many words today please
hmm....to start or not to start, that is the question....
351 words
WHERE? lolo
Cubby05 - You going to register or what?
I'm having the same dilemma feather - I keep popping in and out trying to decide
you too marso?
mroning feather - might as well jump in!
I don't chat -- mostly because I pop in and out too often to carry on a conversation. But, my 9yo loves to help me with the puzzle. With words like yesterday, I do just like Mom and don't type the word. He doesn't know it so he wouldn't see it. He does like the bodily function words though. Must be a boy thing.
if hubby would let me near the visa i would lol
is anyone here who is done or almost done? is it a fun big one, or a hair pulling big one?
It's a shame that we insult people by calling them sexual organs, male or female. Or rather, it's a shame that we think so little of our sexual organs that it's an insult to call someone one. I think I'm going to start calling people I don't like ... ummm, elbows?
eva was close - over 240 words before leaving - will be back later - i have 100 words, started about an hour ago
marso - arrr I see - shop aholic in babble reform
lmao amanda! you elbow you!
On the negative word strain -- just a thought --- words are just letters strung together. We, as humans, assign them negative or positive connotations. I would prefer to not have words banned. It seems that is the same as banning reading material.
LOL amandacath
just as a curiosity on enable, is the F word in it? if not, then i wonder why it includes the one and not the other?
I don't know feather
I agree featherbee - the list that drgod uses was obviously grabbed at a point in time where there was some manipulation happening - cause I can verify that it doesn't match the current one!
he dont trust me with the heaven sent card lol
what do you mean lickety? like it was hacked?
Afternoon everyone. The C words don't worry me and really I'd much rather that children saw them, knew what they meant and understood that they were offensive. I think openness makes it far less likely that they'll use them.
no - just different - some words missing, some words added from that list on angelsongs links
I don't think I've done a grid that it was in, feather, but it's etymology is pretty much like the c-word -it wasn't always bad. And it would definitely be censorship to cut them out. Thy bother me less than the n-word and the j-words that show up now and again
that is a good point sue
but is it censorship to not include the F word, yet have the C word?
Like Amanda I'm far more offended by CO 4/5 or some of the words refering to Jews. They are nasty, but once again I'd rather children saw them and understood that they're offensive.
featherbee - my guess is that whereever the list came from, it has been in a state of change - and we just happen to be working of one that kept C not F
I personally think all words should be included.
interesting lickety
i know i'd have a blast entering F*** in a grid one day!
I agree musicmom.
For those of us with children - those words provide a teaching moment if the child asks about it.
good morning everyone
Yes!
there are so many crazy oddball words that if it isn't a word the child hears all the time - they probably wouldn't even question it
Morning Wyrd!
thanks Sue :)
Hi wyrd
Agreed musicmom. I'd rather be the one to teach mine than have him learn it somewhere else.
good morning wyrd
the f-word is really not there? What's the co-word you're talking about, Sue?
i remember being young, and saying "that's so queer" to my mom, who happens to be gay. she was very upset with me, and said "do you know what that word means?" i said "doesn't it mean strange or odd?" i had no clue that it might offend!
short for a masked mammal amanda
me off peeps in 2 much pain here
now i didn't know that co word was offensive either!
The Co4/5 that refers to black people which is in today's grid Amanda.
to true featherbee - it's probably offensive to type a certain smiley now - like :-<-
bye all tc an have fun :)
Bye marso.
bye Marso
bye marso
bye marso
Sue, I never considered it meant that, we truly call an animal that on the west coast
ahh - when I see that one, I prefer to think of the cute furry creature
co4/5 is offensive to our indigenous people in australia, and yet we have a brand of cheese with that name... go figure!
ok, i need to go check today's theme
Here's what the dictionary says when you click the ? for that word coon Audio pronunciation of "coon" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kn) n. 1. Informal. A raccoon. 2. Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a Black person.
It points out that it is offensive.
mrp is right - there is even a song in the ad!
That isn't validating its use
interesting
It never occured to me that the co word was a term for black people
well, now we all know! and it doesn't change the name of the cheese :)
It used to be very common in this part of the wrold.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coon_chee se
hmm, i've never really watched the simpsons, so i'll just go with my feather today
if you're form the south, you have...mom
Despite a legal challenge to the name by Stephen Hagan in 2003, the name has nothing to do with the more commonly known racial slur use of the word and is instead named after its creator Edward William Coon, who patented a method for fast maturation of cheese via high temperature and humidity. The original trademark owner Kraft, and later Dairy Farmers have vigorously defended this trademark.
But - it is only the intent with which the word is used that makes it disparaging. Just like Feather's 'queer' example.
nice cheese though...
isn't it nearly always in the 'delivery' of a word rather than the word itself that offends? very few words offend me but I can take exception to the 'attitude'.
Hello everyone. Monster grid today, I see. I think I'd better get some work done before starting it.
You're right Lynn.
absolutely lynxxx
hi jac
ok, there are some different people in here since i last asked....has anyone done a big portion of this, or is done, and can tell me if it's a PITA grid or a fun one?
I'm over 200 and it's fun so far.
I seem to have hit a wall at 204
aaahhhh, ok sue! i was thinking it may be, with the er, ed, s possibilities
feather, it is a fun grid!!
its OK feather - there are all sorts of 'endings' to words
I have 40 words with all the chatting i have been doing. It looks comfortable so far.
speaking of offensive words, I just found a co7/32 which isn't very nice
feather - PITA?
not to mention, ier, ied, ies! now i see tion also
The chat's interesting too!
Pain In The A**
and the words are almost all english with lots of different endings, so not too bad at all :)
ok *splash*
yay featherbee!
i hope she's got her togs on and not skinny dipping!
wi6,30 is another less attractive
im getting a lot of mileage out of the double O's
lol lynxxx!
LOL, feather.
Okay need to get a shower and some breakfast. Be back soon
my dad taught me that...he says it pit-a with short a sound
I should lunch! Back soon.

oh brother, slow again - I'll have to come back later and try to finish I guess
It's taking an age to add words.
I just got kicked out and took ages to log back in again :(
me too becca
Very frustrating
is it better? i went and grabbed breakfast while waiting
Seems OK now feather
k
i successfully added words, i think we're alright (knock on wood)
seems to be okay for the nonce
why can't we add nooner? ;-0
oops
what does nonce mean wolvie?
for this bit, for now, etc
It has a very different meaning here - not a very nice word
oh - sorry.
really? wow
nooner should definitely be a word. someone tell the people at enable.
mw lists it as for the time being - that's what I meant.
That's OK - I love the way we speak the same language with different meanings - it makes talking fascinating
You're right, Becca.
true, becca. :-)
Good morning all, I need a clue for ti6/21, please?
Marc, I've got one that you make fire with?
Good Morning all, clues for the 8's would be appreciated
Marc - The stuff you start a fire with.
Thanks but I got it.
I have the plural singing people for an 8, Peri
Peri, are you a regular at twopeas?
ok Becca, have no idea what it is but will look for it
Hi Peri, all I've got so far are 2 c8's: the Bing Crosbys, and a ch8/50, some kind of chemical thingies, I'm guessing
what is twopeas
peri, think like frank sinatra
I guess that means no, eh? ;-)
ah...guess not....it's a message board
thanks amanda and feather
there is a Periwinkle there with the same icon
chiley, really? it is not me though
hmm...lemme guess...message board for twin parents?
amanda, I have one c8 bing, can you clue the other?
To7 and 8 is a form of lace or a dishcloth.
Someone on that site turned me on to Babble..I thought you might be the guilty party
Co 7 and 8 are the courts who deal with deaths, in the UK.
Quincy was a CO7, I think

Bye Wolvie
HO 8/45 is a compound word meaning a sawfly.
found it - sounds like a nasty creature
thanks Sue found the ho8
I mean it sounds like it would be a nasty creature, not that it sounds like a word for a nasty creature ... oh, never mind!

Haven't got it yet....
You're welcome!
Build on Ho 4/5, Becca.
ch8, co8, cr8 peri
Which one?!
thanks amanada, may I have a clue for the co8 please, anyone
Got it!
Peri - plural of British court that deals with deaths
Becca, saw that clue earlier and it does not help me
Starts the same a s a heart attack
works at the morgue
peri have you ever seen davinci's inquest, a drama from canada
no pabtrek
Quincy, peri
the word is the same as what a medical examiner does
sorry, none of the clues are helping me
Oh, that Quincy, I found it, thanks for all of the clues
Think of the word for a heart attack - take off the last three letters and put ers instead
Crossing Jordan?
this person holds an inquest to determine the cause of death and if there should be further investigation
does the H8 begin with a "honk"?
No!
abe - no
Yes Abe! LOL
abe- starts with something that you might toot

Clue for de7
Clue for de7?
Hi Ata!
Hi Atalante
Hi Ata
I'm back
That was quick!
Yeah, when I say 'run to the store' I mean it literally. Well, except that I don't actually run, just walk fast
do you live IN the store?
I couldn't even get out the door that quickly
amanda, you went to the store and back quicker than I was able to add 3 words!
just about Chiley! It's one of the really nice things about living in a European city - everything's literally just around the corner
niceeeeee
Wherabouts are you Amanda?
Hi Ata .. belated hi to abe.. having some hiccups here..getting kicked off, etc.. blah.. will babble on in a gimpy fashion .. slo go today.. ugh

whew. yeah. thought it had to be over 300
I'm just over the half-way mark, but not moving very quickly anymore. Did we figure out the de7 in my absence?
my favourite place in Middle-earth is here - Mithlond

It may be a random clue, but it worked!
great clue abe
Thanks Abe.
I've got it - ty - but how is that last bit Mrs Beckham??!!
you're welcome **monkeys flail arms wildly, trying to take all of the credit**
atalante- i figured it was an abbreviation of a shortened version of her first name? (it was a shot in the dark)
Ha! The monkeys are having a field day here.
ohhhhh yes it is! I'd never thought of that as an abbreviation for that name!
Does anyone have the first ho 6/24?
a group of pious people?
or the adjective before it
thanks Annie
No before that one - after the garden implement
yw abe
becca, sorry, i dont have the list so i thought that was it....
That's OK Annie, thanks anyway.
lol yw
monkeys again... hang on
Where would I know Mrs. Beckham from ?
main character in "catcher in the rye", change third letter to a vowel
Becca, I don't have the list yet either, but could it be a ho** in the ground or its past tense?
Spice girls.
she's married to Mr. Beckham
or its plural?
Before that one Aloy, and after the garden implement
It's before that but after the garden implement, Aloyisius.

On your wavelength Sue
Annie - think of a British Queen of early last century.
ok sue, got it
and atalante
I have the ho6/24 and it's plural - anyone wnat the clue?
David Beckham is an English soccer player who now plays for Real Madrid, he's married to Victoria, who was "Posh Spice" - the garbage in my brain never ceases to amaze me!
Speak Becca!
Yes please Becca, and does anyone have the last mi 5,12?
yes pleases becca

*throws a banana to her monkeys*
mi5,12 coal *****
It means a gypsy or vagabond

Hi Klaurel

Hi Klaurel

Bye Becca :o)
bye Becca
bye Becca :)
which q am I missing? I've got the 6 and teh 7, and various shorter ones...
Amanda, There are 2 x 6 letter qu's - have you got them both?
The q's are:
not sure, but could you clue the 7 please?
nope - I've got the one that sounds like how you might pronounce the Hogwarts game if you're drunk...
Ata - it's evidently a misspelled betting method, sounds like it could be a woman's name..
urf dont know any betting methods ... *monkeys name-alikes*
There's another one (qu 6,27) It's qu 4,7 + if something's ancient, it's _ _ _ (but only the first 2 letters)
The q's are 4 /8 , 5 /18 , 5 /16, 4 /7 , 7 /40 , 6 /27 , 5 /16 , 4 /7 ,6 /33 in that order.
Ah! my monkeys found the 2nd q6 just before you clued it, Michharv
Ata, the q7: 5 + not quite Ms. Fitzgerald
ty!!!
yw!!!
good morning all
btw, does anyone know why we pronounce 'colonel' (which isn't in the grid, no matter haw many times I try it) 'kernel'?
I think it began as lazt speech Amanda and then became the accepted pronunciation.
"Lazy", sorry.
morning, ladynoire
351 words arrgh
hi all
Hi Lady and Arlene
hmmm, maybe. And while I'm at it, how do you Brits get 'lev' out of lieu in lieutenant? Do you also say 'in lev of something'?
anyone got the al 7/28?
Hi Abe
Hi Armanda
http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-co l1.htm
I would say "in loo", but I would also say "leftenant", but I don't know why!
ragalla: add either - ** to the creature from outer space
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?te rm=lieutenant
thanks aloy
yw, glad you found it
oh-oh, sllllllooooooww
Thanks ata! That took care of the colonel question - oh, you've been busy while I was reading, will have a look at the other one...
I love etymology -- its fascinating
351 words? you have GOT to be kidding!
oh yeah -- hi all!
hi stidmama
hiya, stid !
Hi Stid.
Hiya Stid
hi stid
hole
holer
nice site, Ata - have bookmarked it. I love it too! My theory on lieutenant: somebody wrote it lewtenant and the manuscript got wet. By the time it got to the printer it looked like levtenant. Whaddya think?
oops
Hi Stid!
morning stid
well I always wonder what order the leftenant pronunciation and the phrase "left-hand man" appeared in. maybe the two got interrelated, with the similar meaning of lieutenant as a sidekick
there's a "right-hand man".. could there be a left?
we are heading out to help my mother make bulletin boards. I LOVE this part of the getting ready for school rituals!
anyone get the in6 and in7?
stid...that sounds like fun
in + misspelling of person who is dishonest
I don't think I've ever heard of 'left-hand man' either. How's he different from a 'right-hand man'?
This grid was too easy...
have a great time Stid
hiya all
more fun than this grid will be, I think! I have only 46 words so far :-(
Hi Ruthy
hi ruthy!
hi ruthy..
Hi Ruthy!
Hi Ruthy!
u all ok?????????
the grid isn't too bad Stid. most of the words are normal/ easily monkeyed
there are just LOTS of them!!
milo
soz
okay, well will try for them when I get back. hope you all have a good day!
Yeah, it shouldn't take you londer than 15 minutes. 20 max.
you too Stid
I'm making up for not finding the e- and i-words I'm looking for by asking silly questions
abe - ty, I got 'em ! (-:
yw aloy. amanda, i have two e words...not beginnings and an e 4/4 that i monkeyed..sorry state of affairs
there's also the blue-pencilling one
and the time one
i just monkeyed a 4 that rhymes with David Bowie's wife's name
i hate e's
well, don't forget the chemical en4/4
yay! 4 out of 9 e's - 5 as soon as I find out what David Bowie's wife's name is...
amanda- btw, the word is an el
oh, right - I think I'd repressed that I knew who he's married to...
and the chemical plural
amanda, the information got pushed out of your head by your extensive knowledge about david beckham
and wind-driven (eo6) and there's a el5/6 combo
that must have been it, abe
thansks for all the 'e' clues everyone
Yay gottem all but the chemical plural, am working on it. Thanks for all the clues
I can't get that pl. either, amanda
urf sory, no chemical plural. was reading my word list wrong
Well, I'm at 162 with no help - today must be really easy LOL
ty ata.. saved some furrowing of the brow and gnashing of the teeth..
need to prep for another interview. i'll be back later.....
best of luck to you Arlene
i will so regret starting this one...
Hello Aloy
hi, lady.. having fun yet?
ok, so we're still missing one e that's not the plural of the chemical one - any ideas?
yes, I am with you Krys....regretting already
mind you, i haven't started it yet... still time to back out.. but the first word i saw was a 7. tempting
nope, any stuck on the last E
and i do possibly have the afternoon free as i languish away in the jury duty waiting room
nope, am stuck on the last E
stuck on last 2 e's
ah, but I have started it...been lurking for an hour or more and have 142 left
oh, come on in, krys.. the water's fine.. and so is the company ! (-:
Oh, poor Krys - well, at least you have something to do while languishing
haven't done licketys list yet so have no idea about last e, but doubt that I have it
*sigh* ok, here I go. but I'm *only* staying here until 9 my time, then i'm getting up to do other things.
maybe I can help, ata. Think of a cut of pork, put the e in front of it..
Is this thing acting up again today????
then pl it
seems to be stuttering at times, Mary
I'm stuck on the same two E's Abe.
plus the plural - yes, really this time!
it's on and off, Mary, but there hasn't been a major breakdown yet
great minds think alike, Sue :)
that doesn't bode well, right as i decide to jump in the site hiccups. it's like the thunderclap in the horror movie that foreshadows which character is about to be slaughtered.
sorry
for that e5/6 combo - I thought about clueing 'cybersex', but that may be way too off base
ROFL
ok, I have to poof for a while. back later .... goodluck with the last E!
see ya Ata - I'll probably still be here when you get back. Maybe I'll have found that e by then
jfarber, you there?
see you later Atalante
oh, I give up on the e - I'm moving on to the i's (which are just as yucky, I'm afraid)
but there's fewer of them :)
please tell me there's been a horrible mistake for the total...
'fraid not - 9 i's too, according to lickety
nope, i got it wrong, there's another i down there i didn't see
TO, it seems that this is a big grid, yes
Hi TO!
i don't get it..the server can't handle a normal grid; i finish all of these monsters and my ranking is in the toilet...
i guess you can tell i am not in the best of moods today!!! Sorry!
vent away, Temple :)
TO: have you finished this monster?
how do you find the time? aloy: are you insane? : D
i can't even access lickety at work
aloy i am joking (poorly)
yup, TO.. I gotta be nuts.. but, luckily, I am a retired nut!
good for you! i work and am (supposed to be ) writing a thesis !
I have two missing co 6/21 driving me nuts... I think both may begin with the body part....
wow, what's the thesis topic?
*looks down and from side to side* uh.................
grace: your missing co's both start with co4/5
.. the one that ends with an l
hmmm, Grace - I've got 2 co6/21's that begin with the body part and one that you keep beer in
wee, i found every W all by myself!
Hiya Feather

darn it, i have a huge run of ho words, and it's taking ages to enter them
finally!
dang, i thought the new server was supposed to keep the site from being wonky - seems worse than it was before
perhaps it's the size of the grid that's doing it
Any hints for the ch's - I'm a bit befuddled
Can one of you pros tell me how many words come from each i?
amandacath - top left - 3, top middle - 1, 4th row, 5
Woo hoo! Only 200 to go!
Same here, torgone.

uh oh, i'll behave! see? *pats the wall gently*
nice wall, lovely wall... (grrr)

Thats better girls LOL
I entered all my words in Lickerty and for some reason they've all disappeared.
I would be surprised if the walleyes have not already apprised the National Society?
oh no sue!!!!
how frustrating
I've left plenty of forehead marks on that wall ..
Have you refreshed Sue?
That wasn't what I said, feather.
Yes, tried that straight away.
i have a question about lickety's site - how do you all use the blanks - you type in your guesses and then you have to retype them into babble?
not to mention footprints
anyone got a clue for the qu 7 and 8 please?
there is no q8, calqhoon - the 7 is 5 + not quite Ms. Fitzgerald
sloooooow?
yeeeeeeeeeeess
Reeeeeeeeeely slooooooooooooooow

Hi nrkii
I do what feather does.
135 to go here, just starting with lickety
actually, i'm going to get lunch first. bbiab
I never enter anything in lickety's list
I just use it to compare
i've found it saves me time and headaches to actually enter the words. i used to just compare, but it got tiring fast!
lol, I feel the same way about entering them twice :)
hehe!
the THs are going to kill me

it's the fastest way to do this long a grid, to me...

I think more of a marathon, TO
have learned some obscure words, which I will most likely forget, but there is mostly marathon material in the grid.
nrkii - maybe that th is stuck in your ....
*feels reserve weakening*
no, I have that one
thtat's the 4th
missing the 2nd
TO, i got the first 200 pretty easily
