fine. ok. shortened version. best friend has been very very ill, in intensive care last week, then sent to a general surgical ward. then the drs sent her home because being on the general ward is too dangerous for her - there's MRSA in the hospital and if she caught that, well .. it wouldn't be pretty. So they sent her home, her mother was utterly exhausted and unable to cope and she's got much worse again. So they are taking her back in tomorrow. But not into a private room like would make sense, but into the same general surgical ward. And then they'll realise its too dangerous there adn send her home ... and it'll circle. And all the time she's just not getting any treatment or getting any better

you know what else i think... and this may be weird... but i think in a way it was psychologically easier when medical science wasn't so advanced. i mean someone got sick, and the doctor basically updated you, getting better or worse, and they didn't necessarily know what things were, someone was just "in a decline" or whatever. whereas now you know all about cancer and things and so you can like picture these malicious cells inside your body. i'd rather not know what's going on in such detail...

I think you are right, hurshy... my mother said when they were sick as children there was no insurance. they just paid the family doc when they saw him, or waited on things until they could afford treatment.
they're not paying for any follow-up care. that's all out of pocket
unless advances in medicine actually can be utilized by people, it just makes it worse knowing that there are good treatments out there that you can't get!
