Sam long story short. New house doesn't have Telstra lines (which is the standard in houses) Instead we have optus which there is limited carriers that piggy back off it. Optus is very very very very expensive. You need to pay for house line rental as well. its about $109 alone

I was the one who called her at work and told her to go immediately to the hospital the morning he died. That Christmas, 1983, was not a holiday. We had his funeral on the 23rd...so Christmas is sometimes very hard for me.

I carrried the grief about my infant brother from his death in 1962 until 1993 when I realized his death and my grandfather's death had been connected, in my mind. Then, I called a friend and asked her to help me find my brother's grave, and went there to finish the grief work for him.

What happened to little Walter?
He was running in his new rain boots, and tripped on a gravel path. His nose looked like a starwberry for a while but is just scratched and a bit bruised now and he can breathe through it no problem, but he also scraped the heel of his hand and of course keeps bumping it. A Tylenol helped this morning when he was complaining about the nose being sore, and I'm sure the one I just gave him will help in short order.

Ours is in our den downstairs. That room becomes hot, while everything else gets colder. Dries everything out in the rest of the house too. Maybe I'll put it on Craigs List. I'm sure someone would be willing to come lug it away.

My friend makes he own vanilla extract (she is a FABULOUS professional pastry chef). She says you just need to put severl opened vanilla beans in a liter of vodka and leave it a couple of weeks.
Vanilla extract smells much better than it tastes.

It's WAY up there, that's for sure. On the other hand I walked down the street where they roast the curry spices the other day.... And sticking my nose into a jar of whole cardamom and inhaling is like a mini vacation and lifts many troubles for minutes.
And when teh chocolate factory is roasting everything smells like fresh baking chocolate chip cookies for hours.

Me too. Tried an experiment tonight-- quartered a chicken and threw it in a pan. Tossed on some garam masala, black pepper, butter, a can of coconut milk, black salt, and a liberal dose of dried lavendar. Baked it for 2 hours. MAN it turned out good!

hmmm, you can't make ice cream with pie crust, so perhaps my suggestion won't work... was going to say, very quick pastry dessert is to make pie crust batter, roll it out, slather it with butter and then a mix of cinnamon and sugar, roll it up, and cook it for about 10 mins at something like 400 degrees

i think the problem with our pond is keeping a clear hole in the ice for bad gasses to escape. The heater we have to keep a hole clear just isn't doing it. bummer

big pond version of tennis ball - same effect - There is a fairly easy trick to keeping a hole open in your pond. Put as large in diameter of a log as your pond can handle. They don't have to be long, just big and round. The larger diameter the better as long as they are still floating. More than one is great if you have them and they will fit. Why does this work? As the pond freezes the ice will push against the logs and gradually move them downward in the pond. Each day as the sun warms up the log the hole will open up again and most nights it will not shut completely. Each morning you just need to pop the log with a pole or sledge to make sure it is free and that is all you need to do. I have been using this trick for over 40 years and it was taught to me by an old rancher in the mountains of Colorado.

I was telling how I'd told her to go to a different hosp where they specialize in ortho. a newbie spoke up to defend the intern's decision, and several of us sorta shouted her down

she finally went yesterday to the hosp I recommended, and saw an ortho there, who x-rayed & told her it wasn't dislocated; she'd injured some ligaments

he told her to see a different ortho, and what to do in the meantime. she's relieved (obviously) and much happier
